Excellent restaurant in Dallas....wish they had one here in San Diego!

By SanDiegoW_traveler |

Fantastic dining experience at Abacus. The food was not only excellent, but quite innovative. It's too bad that we don't have more like that in San Diego. Highly recommended!

Restaurant Week 2015

By Lila |

Beautiful place, cheerful ambience, great cocktails but I wasn't blown away by the food at all. The entree took a long time to get to the table and when I got my plate it was't what I had ordered. Service was not good. Besides the delays, our waiter was not properly groomed - At least, not to the standard of a fine restaurant. Even though we got the lower prices offered during the Restaurant Week, the check was still pricey (we did get wine pairing option). I'm glad we went there but we certainly will not go back or recommend it to a friend.

Great Dinner in Dallas

By adalbert3 |

Every single dish we had was high quality. All three of us sampled the sashimi and nigiri . We shared the hamachi sashimi and the Artisan Romaine Salad. All three of our entrees were exceptional--Wood Roasted Beef Tenderloin, Togarashi Seared Tuna and the Roasted Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast. The restaurant had a great buzz, the staff was friendly and attentive and it was an all-around enjoyable evening. My wife and I were just talking about how much we would like to go back again soon.

Wonderful food and service

By TXGreenGal |

Wonderful service, food, and atmosphere. We bypassed the sushi offerings and stayed with the large plates. The beef tenderloin was superb and my husband's steak was excellent. My son had the duck, which was wonderful, but the accompanying parsnip puree was a bit odd (slightly foamy?). Ken, our server, was exceptional. This is a great place for an expense account, business dinner. Otherwise, it's a bit overpriced.

the best of the best one of dallas' finest

always creative and challenging menu. blends and fusions of flavors like no other. high end talent in the kitchen.

Excellent food

By AppleStud |

Very good service and nice martinis and they even had a blue cheese stuffed olive option. Venison loin was superb.

Noisy (very), overfull, and poor service....

By Peter F |

If you crave that sense of being in the centre of activity, then i suppose this place might ring your bell, but I, for one, will not be hurrying back The food was ok, if over complicated, but no more than that, and the service was dire - two hours for two courses before we ordered a shared dessert The owner should focus a little less obsessively on his bottom line and hire a few more staff Quite missable

Abacus hits on all cylinders

By Chris |

Upon our arrival at Abacus, we were promptly seated by a courteous staff member. The restaurant interior is stylish and spacious, with a modern, hip ambience. The restaurant was busy but not noisy. Our server Daniel was very professional. He was knowledgeable and attentive but didn't hover. Like a good, experienced waiter, he picked up our cues and didn't continually interrupt our dinner to ask us how everything was. The food was amazing. We started with the celebrated lobster shooters, a unique and delicious appetizer. Our main courses include sushi (an Abacus specialty) and wild salmon, with brussel sprout leaves as our side. The salmon was perfectly prepared--oily and tender, not overcooked. At the end of this birthday dinner, we were presented with a small but delectable chocolate dessert, complete with birthday candle and side of coffee ice cream. From beginning to end, our Abacus experience was a dining night to remember. Everything about the experience was top-notch, and I'm looking forward to our next visit!

Excellent dinner, one of the best I've ever had!

By KimberlyHile |

Went to Abacus last night for restaurant week in Dallas and had a fabulous time. The food was amazing, from the basil gin gimlet to the shared desserts. Loved, loved, loved the lobster shooters, I could have eaten a dozen (I may go back for that!). If you get nothing else, get the lobster shooters. Had a wonderful and complex ravioli with fresh peas. The flat iron steak was cooked to perfection and loved it. My favorite dessert was the coconut cream pie, so good. Everyone that stopped by our table to take care of us or check on us were personable and professional making the experience wonderful. They really know how to take care of their customers. I will go back!

Count on Abacus!

By ToneSavvy |

Attended with co-workers to celebrate a work anniversary milestone. Arrived early and went to the bar first. Waiters were very friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. Even brought over a wine for one of our party to taste just based on our discussion. Main dining experience was great. Bread basket was cool. Had the lobster shooters, steak and the Brussel Sprout Leaves side. Everything was spectacular. I could have eaten a pound of the Sprout leaves. Waitstaff was helpful, definitely knew how to "suggest" menu options that we were willingly led to purchase. Overall a really nice place. Bring your wallet as this is swanky Dallas and the prices reflect the location, great food and service.

Everything amazing!!

By Helen D |

We were visiting Dallas and met up with friends at Abacus. The dinner was amazing! Everyone got something different, and everyone loved EVERYTHING they got! For an appetizer I got the Pan Roasted Hudson Valley Foie Gras. 2 die 4!! For dinner I chose the wood-fired Cervena venison. It was tender and perfectly cooked. Cookie Shooters was my go to for dessert, and it didn't disappoint. If you're in Dallas and you want an unforgettable meal, go to Abacus!

Find dining, great service

By MoMan |

Went out with office staff and colleagues. Didn't realize everyone came in dressed (so felt a little under-dressing in jeans and casual shirt). Don't think there is a strict dress-code but from the looks of it, it may be recommended to be at least business-casual. Read a lot of good stuff about the lobster shooters but I thought they were average. The main entree, though, was certainly worth the tag. Service is very personal and non-intrusive. Both valet and street parking options available. I don't drink alcohol so can't comment on the cocktails. Some exciting menu options like Vietnamese quail and duck liver etc. spice up things a bit. A good choice for an exciting and fun business dinner.

Worst birthday dinner experience ever

By tammyb112013 |

We went to Abacus for dinner tonight for my birthday. It was the worst dinner experience I've ever had in my entire life. It is anything but fine dinning. The place is more like Magiano's or California Pizza Kitchen. It was so much noisy I wasn't able to hear my company sitting right next to me. We ordered drinks and appetizer first which took so long to have them. Then I ordered a salad which the waiter completely forgot all about it. The filet mignon was nothing special for the price we were charged ($60) and it is supposed to be 14oz which wasn't not even close. The service-booooo. Altogether it was the worst experience ever. Definitely do NOT recommend it at all.

Underwhelmed!

By AdventurousCouple |

This restaurant was a total disappointment! The food was less than average and overpriced! I've had better sushi for half the price. The cocktail drinks are served in small glasses and wine selection leaves alot to be desired. Sorry, but I will never return. With so many California wines available, why not include a variety in menu? My diminutive desert need a microscope to be seen properly! Having traveled extensively, this restaurant left us underwhelmed. The thumping loud base heard throughtout is distracting and unnecessary. 😫😫😫

Nice decor and excellent service

By KandyJersey |

The lobster scallion shooters were interesting. The best thing we had was the small plate shrimp - the flavor was interesting and the shrimp were fresh. The crab cannelloni was (surprisingly) served cold but was good. The wine was excellent and the wait staff was very good and knowledgeable.

Perfection

By Barbie Williams |

Had not been to Abacus in a few years however, we can honestly say this restaurant certainly DOES live up to it's reputation. This was without a doubt one of the finest meals we've ever had. Period. The service was impeccable and the full experience from valet, drinks in the bar, dinner and dessert was simply amazing. We had several different dishes; sushi, steak, shark, mac & cheese side, etc. The food is spectacular and definitely worth the price. Special shout out to Austi!

Should not be missed

By Michael B |

We actually had a meal there a month a go and then hosted a dinner party for around 30 in back room. It is worth a visit just to try the lobster shooters. Absolutely phenominal. The sauce the lobster is in is one of the best things I have ever tasted. Great atmosphere , great service both for our dinner and group. Food in prepared perfectly. Great sushi and nice selection. We had the red snapper and wood roasted tenderloin and they were wonderful. Cauliflower soup and the caeser were excellent. All the salads were great. People that got the steaks were very complimentary of the flavor. They really did a nice job with our group as well and the service and food were not affected by a larger group. Nice wine list. Really worth the visit.

Always good

By IAHGVA |

My 3rd time at Abacus in 3 years and it does not disappoint. Reliable and arguably one of the best restaurants in Dallas. Service always professional yet friendly and the food consistently excellent. A regular on my Dallas to-do list when visiting. My only downside is with the host(ess): when I book at 9pm, I like to arrive and be seated at 9pm. Or only accept reservations for 9.15 or 9.30pm if you cannot sit me at 9pm...The bar is good though, but I like to choose where I want to have drinks and not be forced to. It "only" took them 15min to sit us down but we did not walk in, we booked. Just a small pet peeve of mine. But overall, the food and service compensate for that annoyance

My new favorite!

By 860SusanB860 |

We dined here for the first time during Dallas Restaurant Week. We had an early dinner reservation and got a nice table for two before the restaurant got really full. Our server, Vincent, was very helpful, friendly, and attentive. We began with cocktails - the Lucy in the Sky and Gin Basil Gimlet were both hits. The bread basket was also very nice and had three selections for us. The appetizers were both excellent! The Crispy Coconut Rock Shrimp were beautifully plated with cashews, jalapenos, mango and a red curry sauce. The Texas Melon plate was my favorite of the night. It was not only colorful, but tasty as well. Chunks of watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe were served with queso fresco, red onion, hearts of palm, and a cilantro vinaigrette dressing - not only a bust of color on the plate, but a burst of tastes as well. After our appetizer, we were given a complimentary watermelon mojito / mint shooter - yummy! We both chose the Blackened Sockeye Salmon for our entree and it was served well-done, as we requested. It was a nice sized portion and was served over blue corn grits and a red pepper butter. The wine pairing with the fish was perfect. Dessert was one shareable plate with a small chocolate torte, a scoop of mint ice cream and a small fruit tartlett. I am not certain how our meal, service, ambiance and atmosphere could have been any better - it was near perfection. We will certainly be back to try some other menu items. Very impressive!

Chef’s Tasting Menu

By suzismini |

My children like to give us experiences as gifts, so they made us a reservation and prepaid our dinner at Abacus for the eight course Chef’s Tasting Menu. It was fabulous!! Everything was excellent. We enjoyed trying many amazing dishes that we would not have been adventurous enough to order on our own. Sushi Hamchi and a favorite roll Salmon on red pepper sauce Blueberry sorbet palate cleanser Quail knots w buffalo sauce Lamb on orzo pasta w sweet potato and a Marsala sauce Blackened Venison and shrimp over grits Cheese course White chocolate cheesecake w lemongrass ice cream. If that looks line 9 courses to you, it confused our waiter too. I think the single bite of sorbet doesn’t count. We could not even touch the cheese course near the end. (They wrapped it up for us and we took it home.) If you have the opportunity, try this. Service was above par and ambiance was lovely.

Exceptional menu and wine list in Highland Park

By Tim R |

Let’s get the bad bit out of the way. It’s Dallas, so it’s overly air conditioned. But that’s the negative. Superb service and staff, personable but professional make this a must do place. The menu is excellent and varied. We were a party of four and shared the Lobster Sliders and then had various main courses. All cooked to perfection - the pork in the menu was sublime; the plat du jour of venison and carrots five different ways was the dish of the evening. Wine list has both variety and quality. Anything decent is $100 plus, but what do you expect? White Burgundy was interesting in variety and vintage; red US Pinot is a clear strength.

As always, first class

By Charlie A |

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years. It's always excellent. The lobster shooters are the best.

A Restaurant Week Gem

By suzismini |

My friends and I choose one restaurant for DFW Restaurant week each year. This year we were all so impressed w Abacus. The food was divine. Between us we enjoyed the potstickers, calamari, and gnocchi for small plates. All were amazing. For big plates we had duck, shrimp, and flat iron steak. Every dish was perfectly prepared. We started with the lobster shooters. (Which we ate w a fork and then dipped in our bread as our server suggested we might.) The service was impeccable. Our server very knowledgable and thorough. I will definitely return to this one so that my husband can try it too.

Restaurant week

By shellyfrance |

I've been here before for the six course tasting menu and it was some of the best food I have ever tasted! Unfortunately, we did not have a great restaurant week experience. The buffalo potstickers were the best thing we had. The gnocchi was just ok. We both had the flat iron steak which was charred on the outside and rare on the inside. There was tough fat running through both of our steaks, making only about half edible. The sides were lackluster. The dessert sampler was just ok. Blueberry crumble was unimpressive, but the chocolate peanut butter cup was the best of the trio. Our waiter seemed annoyed and disinterested from the beginning. Our food was mixed up with the people sitting next to us, but the wait staff dumped off the food and left before we could tell them it was wrong. We figured it out and we switched the food ourselves with the couple sitting next to us. I was really excited about going back to abacus again, but after this experience it's doubtful!

Best meal

By Samuel T |

We had our anniversary dinner and birthday at the restaurant. It couldn't have gone any better. The service and the food was excellent and i don't think i can find any negative remark to say about this restaurant. 👍👍

surf and turf roll and fries are amazing

By Joseph W |

surf and turf roll and fries are amazing. their bread is also the best bread ive ever had from a restaurant and i go to a lot. i was not fully in love with their entrees but regardless the service, ambiance, and food was amazing.

Dont believe the hype

By SASHA S |

Totally overrated - the food here is not good - bread basket comes with an assortment of weird stale hard breads, order an appetizer - very small portions, ordered scotch they brought bourbon, ordered champagne- it was lukewarm and flat, ordered a bone in steak- cooked wrong very fatty and tasted like kraft BBQ sauce on top which is OK unless you're paying 60-80 for a piece of meat - ugh - waiter lingers at your table like an annoying fan then disappears when u need them, the decor is modern and artsy but no vibe here, the best part of this restaurant is the 2 sweet front door girls, otherwise its all hype - like Paris Hilton- famous for nothing - don't waste your money if you want a nice dinner with real food - this is the kind of place that uses 12 words to describe basic meat and potatoes but seriously its overrated I'm sorry I'm just being honest

Great dinner with family

By Cruising2by2 |

We had dinner here with our family and it was a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Staff is extremely attentive and excellent. They are well trained as not to be over attentive and properly clear a table, kudos!!! Lobster shooters are a must if you go. Excellent presentation and unusual combinations so it was a great night. The only reason I will not give it an excellent is the sushi is nothing exceptional and overpriced.

Hands down, best meal in Dallas if you are a foodie

By Izzy D |

Less than 1% get this rating. Food was unbelievable and NY foodie quality bar none. Soft butter, big ice cube for cocktails and unbelievably awesome server in Ryan (who knows his wine). The one list is great and approachably priced. Love it

Very Nice

By Mary M |

Food was good but not really memorable. On a recent business trip we tried several nice restaurants. Abacus was good but not great just good. Service was excellent.

Great special occasion restaurant!

By S m |

Abacus it fabulous and will give you a truly special dining experience. Everything we tried was tasty and appealing. We went for an anniversary and they print a special menu to commemorate if you tell them ahead of time.

Extraordinary food and service. Fantastic experience!!

By X9771IAmichael |

From the minute we walked in and were greeted at the door through and including the kind valet team this place was exceptional. The food was beyond any possible expectation. Menu choices were modern, even edgy but still rooted in familiar continental cuisine. Every course was prepared exquisitely, from the sushi through the main course and finally with dessert. The vibe was very cool and a bit unique. The staff was phenomenal. I can't wait to go back. Don't miss this spot.

Solid.

By Suzana K |

Years later Abacus is still standing strong and living up to its reputation. Our waiter was top notch and we had the added treat of seeing the best Maverick player ever there. The lobster shooter was as good as ever.

Fantastic Restaurant

By thetravelguy55 |

This was probably my favorite restaurant for restaurant week. Not only was the food amazing (try the melon salad), but the service was amazing. I ordered the salmon and my friend order the steak and they were both fantastic. The deserts were great, but the wine was lights out! Peter took great care of us and all of his recommendations were an absolute hit! Dennis the manager was great as well. One of the best restaurants in the DFW area! We can't wait to dine here again!

Birthday Celebration

By TomQ883 |

My neighbor and her spouse and my spouse and myself decided to go to this restaurant which has been a legend for excellence in Dallas for many years. The lobster shooters are incredible. The service was remarkable. The main entries were so,so. The side of risotto was less than so,so. We were celebrating 2 birthdays which we told them when the res was made. We both thought they would provide a small desert for the celebration but that didn't happen. Instead we got certificates signed by Kent and the rest of the Chefs, A little disappointing.

A Dallas Favorite

By Titan27 |

This is one of our favorite Dallas restaurants and always try to go when visiting Dallas for a special occasion (or just because!). The service and food are always perfect and the wine list is great as well. Don't fail to order the lobster shooters!

Very Disappointing Special Anniversary Dinner

By eugenie2010 |

My husband and I decided to dine at Abacus for a truly special dinner, our 30th wedding anniversary... Sadly the French Room closed for renovations on 6/11 a few days before our anniversary. In retrospect, I sincerely wish we dined there even if it would have been before the actual anniversary... I decided on Abacus (against The Mansion and The Fearing) based on most reviews being positive but now I feel it is important for everybody to provide their input so other potential guests can make a more informed decision. I am NOT giving 2 stars because I am a disgruntled client! I am simply expressing my personal opinion and feelings and those are of great disappointment for choosing this place for such a momentous celebration... that is all... I did not go for freebies, I want to make this clear, but the service and the way you are treated, especially knowing what an important milestone you are celebrating, I think that IS very important... at least to me it is. Before leaving we were handed a piece of paper, which upon reading at home I did not understand since it had a menu having nothing to do with what we had for dinner... if it was meant as a memento for us, it should have had our menu on it... There was nothing special about the table, nothing like a congratulatory wish, a visit from the chef or a complimentary dessert... While none of those were the reasons we went to dinner, it would have been nice since many reviews mentioned them... After all we were celebrating something remarkable! Out of curiosity, I called today to find out the meaning for the piece of paper we were given only to encounter a rather dismissive attitude from the person answering the phone. It actually sort of held us responsible for not being treated in a special way… She said that we should have ordered flowers, a cake, etc, but that would have cost more!!! I found that to be quite offensive as there was NO mentioning of anything like that when I made reservations even if I told them it was a special anniversary. Additionally, it should be clear, in my mind at least, that deciding for this place implies that you are not pinching pennies to begin with so I found that comment really inappropriate! I honestly expected that upon finding out that we were disappointed, we were getting some apologies as opposed to demeaning comments like those… I never knew that a guest is responsible for setting a special table at a restaurant when there is a notable event being celebrated... At every other restaurant, so far, we were impressed by their thoughtfulness from the considerate table setting to the extremely attentive and quality service… Frankly speaking, a restaurant of this caliber SHOULD at the very least have a nice vase and some flowers at every table… Food wise we were NOT impressed, especially one of the main courses and the dessert. We have dined at better and nicer restaurants in the luxury category and were certainly treated much nicer for events that were nowhere near as extraordinary as this one… We will definitely not returning, especially after the insulting reaction and attitude I received today …

Another Restuarant Living on the Past - Rathburn is being terribly missed

By Paul W |

We have been enjoying Abacus for many years. Whether it was a special occasion, a luxury night out or even restaurant week, they always lived up to the quality expected. Our most recent visit was similar to eating at a "Ruby's Diner". The food was tasteless, poor presentation, deserts were not even edible. What happened! Unfortunately, the room was no noisy that the four of us could not hear the person next to us talking, tables were having to shout to hear each other, which just becam louder and louder. Bottom line, another end of an era, poor quality food, poor presentation, poor ambiance, but up to standard was the good service. Probably would not consider for business meal - couldn't hear each other, personal pleasure - tasteless food and poor setting.

WOW...one of the best meals I have ever had.

By Kelly’s Travelary |

Simply put this was one of the best meals I have ever had. The food was spot on. The Lobster "Shooters" are to die for...definitely different. The Picasso Roll was a great piece of sushi with fresh pineapple. We followed the meal up with the Buffalo Empanada and the roasted Opha with Asian stir fry. Again, WOW!!! Don't miss this restaurant.

BEST of the BEST

By glena896 |

Outstanding overall experience. Food is spectacular and service second to none. This is one of Dallas' finest dining establishments. From the minute you walk in it is excellence! Sat in a banquet with my wife and they brought over a congratulations card to celebrate our wedding. They made it a very special evening. Not my first time but my wife's and she was blown away. Great wine list by the glass.

Delicious!

By roropatel27 |

Out of the box meals that are delicious! Would definitely go back, but only to celebrate -higher price point.

Top Notch

By 1Gypsy-Mama |

First class steaks, lamb. Awesome Sangiovese butter sauce for steaks. Impressive wine list. We will be back. Oh, and if you're gluten-free, they will take care of you.

Impressive

By mssrfoie |

There was an upbeat, slight casual feeling. The staff is warm and welcoming. The food, creative. We ended up with multiple small courses which turned out to be perfect. Every course was satisfying. The wine list good, and the specialty drink options interesting. All in all, this is a should go to place if you are visiting Dallas.

Excellent Meal!

By EAGR13 |

We went for restaurant week, and the menu was outstanding. I had the calamari to start, and it was delicious. For dinner, my husband had the duck and loved it. I had the shrimp dish, and it was perfect. We also added the lobster shooters - one of my all time faves. Service was great, and they had some wine offerings at very reasonable prices. I'll definitely be back soon.

Delightful evening

By lazymary99 |

Ambiance was pleasant, not noisy. Our servers were gracious and knowledgeable about menu. We are two older women, "foodies" who love highly rated restaurants and consult tripadvisor and yelp. Older women, unescorted, can often be written off by staff...our staff here was very attentive and friendly. The food...FANTASTIC...so worth the cost...it IS a pricy place, but WORTH IT!! Loved our experience at Abacus!!

The Math Works

By SBPCPA |

Came to Dallas to watch 49ers and with a steak dinner planned for Saturday night we wanted a seafood dinner. Trip Advisor suggested Abacus and they were spot on. The menu had many tempting alternatives and we ultimately allowed our server Steve B to select our entrees as well as the wines to accompany them. He was spot on with his choices. We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees and the wine that accompanied them which followed two amazing sushi appetizers. This is our first visit to Dallas and am glad we came to this restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food really delicious. It all added up to a great evening.

Great food, beautiful presentation, wonderful/friendly service

By 0beachbum0 |

Went for drinks/dinner. Beautiful and serene environment. Super friendly and customer service friendly bar staff. Bar has @ 7-8 seats, small tables and space for waiting. Dining staff were equally good and food was beautifully presented and very good. Note that for fussy eaters - the list of options is a bit shorter than other restaurants. I understand they change the options frequently but if you are a type that is fairly picky on what you can eat- there will only be about 6-7 options for entree's. If you are a foodie - you will appreciate this restaurant and the dining experience. * Nicer dress for this restaurant

As easy as one, two, three

By Walt B |

We invited an old and dear friend to pick the best restaurant in Dallas for our reunion dinner with him and he chose Abacus. It was a great choice! The menu is inspired and the service was professional and yet personal. Except for the fact that a side dish arrived after we'd finished our entrees, the evening was perfect.

Birthday Celebration to Remember!

By Ann664 |

If you want to celebrate anything in style, look no further than Abacus. Impeccable service throughout our entire dinner; hip and happening atmosphere; succulent menu; attention to every detail! If dining during the week, do try the Chef's Tasting Menu. Select from 5 or 8 courses of bite-sized delectables! Even the intermezzo was outstanding! You will truly be delighted and surely leave looking forward to your next return!

You cannot go wrong here.

By smox62 |

I really like this restaurant. It never fails to deliver. The wood fired steaks exceed expectations. I can never decide between the buffalo and rib eye which are both excellent. The five or eight course tasting menu is seasonal, fresh, amazing, always. If you just want something small the Miso glazed pulled porc or roasted quail are delicious. I could eat here every week and be satisfied every time.

Amazing quality and great ambience

By Sparkyttu |

This is a very nice high end dining experience. The quality of the food is outstanding and they have some unique food options. The atmosphere is very nice and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this for a high quality night out with delicious entrees.

Lovely Dinner

By steeleyourheart |

The service is wonderful, There is a lot of choices in food for anyone’s taste. The fun part is the whimsical desert designs. They are worth the trip if you are a desert person. You will have a very lovely evening

My favorite Dallas restaurant

By Russ I |

When I win the lottery, I plan to eat here at least once or twice per week. The food, the service, and the ambiance are perfect for me. It's pricey, so I'm typically here only for special occasions, but I love the place. Can't wait for my next visit.

Killer food

By Joni P |

I guess I don't need to tell you that when it comes to food - anything Kent touches is going to be spectacular. Well, here I go - it was spectacular! This place is a jewel to those of us lucky enough to live nearby enough to come here frequently - here you can order absolutely anything on the menu and know that it will be the best that you have ever had. It is pricey, so don't be shocked. But you really do get the best quality of everything, with the some of the best culinary artistry that you will find in a restaurant anywhere in the world. It It has an intimate vibe so you can come for romantic dinner, but you can not go wrong with this place for family gatherings, or business events either as it has various rooms and table arrangements that can accomodate. They have fish as well as meat dishes and their appetizers are amazing. I came for a Mardi Gras event and it was a total feast of goodness. It simply is the best of the best and you need to come here at least once when you visit Dallas. Yum.

OK experience

By Willie211 |

Very noisy; tough 45 day aged steak; sent it back; great salad; very good service; over $150/person; lobster shooters - not special; drinks very good

Great, Part Doux

By ThatLeland |

My wife and I dined at Abacus 5 or 6 years ago and decided to give it another try during our getaway weekend. We are glad we did! First and foremost, it's obvious that every staff member takes great pride in providing exceptional service. They pay attention to the details and are very accommodating to their guests. - Considering a new wine with dinner? Let us give you a small taste. Split plates, no problem. - The food was exceptional and the plating pristine. We will not make the mistake of waiting so long between visits ever again. Abacus deserves a visit - OFTEN!

There are no chef tasting menus on Friday or Saturday

By Car0l27 |

Having experienced the nine course chef's tasting menu paired with wine Christmas of last year, we eagerly anticipated a repeat this year. When we ordered we were told there was none available on Friday or Saturday nights. We checked the Abacus website and did not see any mention of this. It would have been nice since we do not go often to be aware of this. Although very disappointed we decided to order off the menu. The restaurant is beautiful, service is outstanding and the food plays a symphony in your mouth that is up to the desserts which were not of the caliber of the main meal. We had the lackluster chocolate cake and a shameful sandy like substance. The menu said it was a peanut butter gelato.

Above the Crowd

By SoCalif08 |

One could dine at at the higher end chains from Honolulu to Boston and feel that it was the same chef/decorator/server each time. Not so with Abacus, which is more thoughtful and less predictable. The service was excellent and the food was pleasing.

Best Meal EVER!

By TX-TraveLady |

You must have the lobster shooters. They are heavenly. This is the best meal I have ever had. Lobster Shooters, House Salad, Scallops. Yum. Abacus is an experience not just a meal. The servers thrive to make your experience delightful and they succeed. Because of the price this will have to be a special occasion place.

handsome and great service

By gay e |

The food is adventuresome and delicious. Service is friendly in handsome interior and lovely service-it is quite expensive by most standards, but the small plates are fine, the larger ones can be a bit pricey, but you are paying for the service and atmosphere..it is quiet with well spaced tables which is appreciated. fine for a special occasion, Even the small plates are a good size.

The perfect elegance and evening!

By claireparr |

Abacus has long been one of the most respected and excellent restaurants in Dallas. I cannot remember a time in the past decade when it hasn’t surfaced as one of the top, nt it’s only improved with age as Chef Chris Patrick took over the Executive Chef duties and livened up the menu with some real creativity and diverse takes on game, fois gras and on some very cool Asian inspired sushi and bites. The bar at this restaurant is gracious and big with wonderful bartenders, and a crazy great selection of whiskeys and craft cocktails. Once you’re seated in the zen cool neutrals of the main dining room with ts view of the open kitchen at work, you can enjoy some of their famous standards like the “lobster shooters” that remain an Asian derived delight, and a good cross of perfectly prepped sushi and then dive into Chef’s always changing but wonderful house made sausages and Hudson Valley fois gras. Patrick’s cooking is only getting stronger each time I eat here.... his James Beard dinner last year in NYC apparently offering more confidence and he’s always working with game as he grew up hunting and has a real love for it. The servers here are also a reason to come and come back. They’re veterans and their polish and humor and attention to detail makes the whole evening a great experience. The wine list is superb.... many off the path Napa strong hidden gems, and the big names you’d expect for people who want their known go-to’s. Big bravo to Abacus. Great to know where I can count on the best for my friends and business meals when I come back to my home town!!!

Great night

Every time I come to Dallas we like to try something different. Abacus was the selection this month, and it didn't disappoint. Every course was excellent and the wines that were paired added to the experience. Our Waiter was knowledgeable and made some excellent recommendations. It will be a place to return to.

Highs and Lows

By FamilyMan1963 |

Table service was excellent, intuitive -- a real seasoned professional female waiter in her late 30s. The only thing I didn't like was the overly zealous attempt to "push" the lobster shooters as soon as we sat down. The effort began to make me feel like I was at a used car lot, so I went from "maybe" to "no thank you". Later we got menus and I discovered the reason behind the push. A simple and not-so-meaty lobster shooter would have added a neat $80 to our table of 4 before we even received the menus (and saw the price). Other than that, the service was excellent and well coordinated. The lamb was well seasoned, but too small for the price. I had to take my wife by a quick-serve restaurant on the way home because she was still hungry. I ordered the ahi tuna rare and seared, it arrived thoroughly cooked through and room temp -- almost cold. Clearly it had not only been way over cooked, it had sat long enough for the extreme heat to dissipate before being brought to me. They do a good job at "serving everything at once" but they miss the point if they're serving hot dishes cold, dishes that are left waiting on others until all can be brought to the table. We asked to sit in the "side" dining room so that we could talk. No problem -- it's true, the main areas of the restaurant will leave you screaming to be heard at your table. The tuna had a mound of "other stuff" on it that was rather bland, and I had to hunt for the tuna amongst the "stuff". Poorly prepared, bad value, low quality. In contrast, other dishes seemed to be about right. The meal for 4 was almost $500. At that price, you really need to be on top of your game. Too many assistant, untrained "chefs" to handle the high volume. I doubt the "chef" touched our food. Doesn't cut it.

Still one of the best

I rarely give 5 stars since I believe that is reserved for the absolute best; Abacus qualifies in all respects. We have eaten here several times over the years, and have never been disappointed. The food, and the varied selection are outstanding. Service is polished and professional (William was our server last night). The wine list is extensive, with a good selection of by-the-glass.When you go, arrive early and enjoy the fine bar. Last night was an anniversary dinner, and a card signed by the staff was on our table. Pure class

A Great Night Out

By Carole7117 |

The food and atmosphere at Abacus was top notch! We had a business event there in a private room with a cocktail making demo from the bartender. What fun! Next the food. The salmon was outstanding! I've been to a lot of the higher end restaurants in Dallas and this one definitely stands out in the crowd. A very personalized experienced. Very attentive wait staff. While I didn't see the prices, I would expect that it's a bit pricey, but worth it. Overall a fantastic night out.

Fantastic night at Abacus!

By Kaptx |

Four of us attended the cook with the chef (chef Patrick) as members of the Dirty Dozen. The menu was excellent and the setting great. Chef Patrick and his team were delightful and professional. About twelve different dishes ranging from entrees, sides and desserts. A outstanding dinner all around.

Good, not Great

By LaQuita M |

My husband and I dined here for our 5 yr anniversary! We did the 8 course chef's tasting menu. Overall, most of the dishes lacked creativity in presentation and the flavor profiles were average. There were only 2 dishes that I thought tasted great! Considering the reviews, I really expected more from Abacus, especially in comparison to other restaurants of the same caliber. I would not return nor recommend. Also, the service was subpar - the servers could barely explain the dishes and there was no special effort put into recognizing that we were celebrating our anniversary (other than a signed menu, seriously?...no special dessert or anything). Also, the decor is simple, nothing impressive about this place at all! True foodies will be disappointed.

Stellar Dining Esperience

By Car0l27 |

In Celebration of my birthday I was surprised when we drove up to Abacus. My last dining experience there left me puzzled that on their website nothing alerted me to the fact that a tasting menu could only be obtained Mon – Thurs. I see that now the website has been updated to include this information. But I have digressed, Abacus is my favorite restaurant! There are many fine restaurants in Dallas but only Abacus is the epitome of fine dining. The ambiance along with the acoustics, the wait staff that excels in what they do, the open kitchen and the excellence of their food paired with the perfect wines distinguishes them from other restaurants My son- in-law, daughter and I chose the 8 course tasting menu accompanied by the very best wines. The menu says the food is Swoon- worthy and for lack of a better description I will second that. We began with the basket of breads accompanied by a delectable maple flavored spread. With a glass of Veuve Clicquot to toast with we began our gastronomical journey with a Tuna and Sushi tasting. Each of the following offerings tantalized our taste buds. The Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras on an Oatmeal Cookie with a Pomegranate reduction and an Orange Fennel Marmalade won the best plating of the night in my opinion. I commend the wait staff as they were flawless. The Birthday greetings with the listing of some of the small and large plates signed by the Executive Chef Chris Patrick, who has taken the baton from Kent Rathbun, was appreciated. Thank you for a lovely birthday celebratory dining experience.

Abacus has slipped- not going back!

By Phytopia |

We have enjoyed Abacus over the years for an expensive and special celebration however on my husbands birthday this year we said No More. When we arrived, few people were seated but we were shown a corner table on a banquette - not a very prime seat. After a few minutes we detected what smelled like sewer gas and asked to be changed. The waiter, already somewhat haughty, seemed to take that request personally. Another experience with the wine further ticked him off -until my husband ordered an expensive bottle- then he warmed a bit. The food was only good - nothing very great like we'd had before. For the birthday - he brought 2 small truffles -one with a candle! And it WAS EXPENSIVE!! Just not a good experience all the way around.

Great service and wonderful food!

By Jennifer H |

We visited Abacus because of all of the great things we have heard. We ordered an appetizer of Wagu beef and baked peas which was pretty good but not something I would order again. My husband and I both had the been tenderloin and it was amazing!!!! For desert we shared the salted caramel apple creme brulee which was the best thing we had!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others!

All most a 5 star but....

By Neil-from-Dallas |

The food was excellent. i had the beef filet and my wife had the buffalo filet. First we had the crunchy coconut sushi roll which was also very good. One of the best tasting meals in a long time....but.... we made the reservations a week ago and they called me to confirm the day before but when we got there they could not find our reservation! They did find us a table right away in the main dining area...but again.....there was a large group from some convention or something where there were about 4 tables right next to us of people wearing sort of ratty clothes and id badges around their necks. They were loud and it made it hard for us to talk....but...again.. the manager came over to ask how everything was and when we told him about the loud crowd he comped the entire bill! He went beyond what he had to and did the right thing to keep us as a customer (we had been several times before and will be back!) My advise is that they need to work on their reservation system and when there is a large party they should have them separated from other diners. the waitress did a very good job, (and i gave her a large tip) Thank you for paying for our meal and the good service - we will be back!

New look for former Abacus!

By wwfrench |

Abacus has reopened with a more casual feel. The food is outstanding and so are the drinks!! We had the lobster shooters, sashimi , and the Picasso roll! All were delicious !! Service is outstanding ! I think more work is needed on the interior but glad the stuffy feel is gone !! We also had a peanut butter mouse for dessert!! Yummy!!

Wonderful Evening

By Maria T |

Loved everything about this restaurant - the food was great - inventive, creative and delicious. The ambience wad particularly terrific - intimate, warm and inviting. The service was great - attentive without being annoying. Great wine list! Definitely a restaurant to come back to again and again.

Not to be missed restaurant in Dallas

By Bayou_Believer |

Always make a trip to Abacus every time I am in town and guests usually want to go a 2nd time on the same trip! Start with the lobster shooters for a unique start to a meal or just to sit in the bar for appetizers and drinks. Sushi is always fresh and delicious. They know how to prepare game that doesn't taste "gamey" and is flavorful and tender. Also saw someone getting a tasting menu and I will be back to try the 5 small plate courses!

Ok but Overrated

By Jennifer S |

This was always one of my "bucket list" restaurants to visit. It was okay. Really. But it was not the 5 star, so amazing, excellent, top chef places we had heard it was. We had the recommended lobster shooters but they tasted like they had been made hours before and were way too tomato sauce tasting. Like soggy bread meets V8. The wine and steak were good but so is Texas Roadhouse. For $200 I was really hoping for something excellent and was left very disappointed. Again, it wasn't bad but for the hype and price point I was really hoping for awesome.

Company dinner

By gxg189 |

Pleasantly surprised with menu selections A spectacular wine list Service was amazing Server knew the menu inside out and made very good suggestions

All was above average until waiter delivered our meals

By Anquka |

So how can a fine restaurant with a great environment and great food kill an experience? Deliver the wrong expensive meal to 1 of 4 people in our party. It all falls apart. The 3 of us ate slowly while the new meal was cooked, so our food turns cold. The 4th guest is left to munch on breadsticks, then eat quickly. There were apologies but insufficient response. As comp, they offered one free glass of wine. We had already had one and were driving. That was all they offered. Every other restaurant we've had this happen in immediately comps the entire meal, or some other comp and that erases the bad taste. Not these guys.

Unforgettable Dinner

By Fisher327 |

This former location of Abacus is now Jaspers Uptown and if you are familiar with Jaspers in Legacy (which is now gone) you will find this to be a wonderful new location for an old favorite. The menu has changed slightly and all of us at dinner learned it was due to COVID-19. The restaurant was fully staffed and sadly we were the only diners from our 6 PM reservation until around 7 PM. The service was the usual Jasper’s standard - fast, efficient without being overbearing. All of our food choices were prepared exactly as ordered and served piping hot. After our drink orders were taken and served the three of us started with the yummy blue cheese chips. This was followed by our dinner choices: fried pineapple bowl (which was an unexpected delight), a massively huge cheese burger, and the salmon. All were delicious and while we focused on dinner our sides should not go uncommitted upon - the japaleno corn and crispy Brussel sprouts were excellent choices which were suggested by our server. We had the entire place to ourselves for about an hour and as we lingered over after dinner drinks and coffee we watched as Jasper’s diners slowly began to come in - which we were happy to see for Jasper’s sake. All “rules” were strictly followed, the food and drink was incredible so come on out and enjoy a meal outside the home. You can’t miss with Jaspers Uptown!

RUINED VALENTINES

By Robert A |

This place just ruined Valentines. I live out of town and was planning a romantic getaway for me and my wife and this is what happened. Beware of this place. I made reservations with Heather on February 3 for 730 pm for Valentines Day. When I received my confirmation email it said 1030 pm. I called back the next day, left a message on your "answering service" and of course no one called me back. So I called again, spoke with Heather again and she said she would change me to 730 pm. and send me a confirmation email. No confirmation so I called back again left another message and again no return call. So I called back again today and of course was told there is nothing available except the 1030 pm slot. If I wanted 1030 pm I would have made that my choice from the beginning. So now its 1 week until Valentines and no dinner reservations. THANKS SO MUCH. You have ruined a very romantic evening for me and my wife. I am sure this is no "skin off your backs". THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!

Moody lighting lovely ambience

By traceym595 |

First for me was the fit out and lightning fixtures love seeing how some one designs a place. Cocktails at the bar then to the table. Sushi starters if so inclined we had the crab sake shooters yum. We decided on the degustation menu a very good choice. Two fish two meat all delicious the first a red fish (would be snapper in Australia)superb also the venison exceptional. Wines and service good. Apparently a Dallas institution and well deserved in the restaurant industry.

Delicious$$$$$$

By Beth N |

Outstanding service. Great wine list. Delicious steaks and pork tenderloin pricey but worth it. Sides are great too especially the truffle fries. Sushi good but not outstanding. Very tight spacing of tables makes it feel loud.

Best Birthday Dinner

By 924lynetteg |

The wonderful experience started in the bar with the interesting drinks. Two interesting drinks later we moved to the dinning room. The salads were perfect. The lettuces were crisp, the other ingredients perfectly arranged for visual appeal and complexity of tastes in each bite. The carrot ravioli was divine! Very different with a medley of flavors. The entree was the venison. Perfectly prepared!!! with a wonderful accompaniment of sunchokes, caramelized onion, mushroom, celery, etc for crunch and woodsy taste to go with the venison. Brilliant! for desert, more brilliance with interesting combination of flavors in the sorbets. A cherry/lime that was tart and sweet. The prickly pear/pineapple with another tart and sweet combination. Each combination of flavors and textures was beautiful executed in preparation and flavor. Kenneth was an excellent waiter if you want to ask for one of his tables.

In Dallas, Abacus is a must!

By MikeMcLean |

Atmosphere, Service and Food quality is part of what makes Abacus on the top of my best in Dallas restaurant list. Abacus has won Accolades and awards and for good reason. The menu is well designed for almost any taste palates. From Sushi to Venison so many great menu items to get you hooked. For first timers, I'd recommend the Lobster Shooters! Trust me, your friends will be so Jealous!!

Dine and Go to Heaven

By ronatygress |

Chef Kent Rathbun continues to hit it out of the park. The food here is creative and simply perfect. Abacus is known for the Lobster Shooters, which are a delightful mouthful of sweet lobster in a chili broth, but be brave and go for the unexpected combination of caramelized bananas and foie gras -- sort of bananas foster with pate. Even better, try the 12-course tasting menu and get small plates of a variety of Abacus favorites. The small portions will take you through the menu without leaving you feeling like they need to roll you out the door. Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

Outstanding Food and Service

By Cortney C |

I had been planning on celebrating my birthday at Abacus for months with my family. The reservation process was easy and not hard to find a table for the Saturday night we had planned. We arrived a few minutes late due to bad weather, but the hostess greeted us with a big smile and sat us right away. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was easy and nice (not pretentious). We had several different starters and sushi rolls to share with the table before our main course. We recommend the lobster shooters and any of the sushi...although anything you order is going to be delicious. We opted for the Buffalo filet special, the pork tenderloin special and the salmon. We each shared bites of our food with each other to "sample". The portions were large and we were adequately satisfied after eating for a few hours. :) We made an evening of it and dressed up. Every single thing we ate was outstanding and delicious. We even tried things outside of our comfort zone and were not disappointed. I HIGHLY recommend.

Doesn't get any better than this!

Wonderful dining experience! If you want to impress someone then this is the place! Great steaks. Great service. The lobster shooters aren't too be missed!

Eclectic, modern, expensive restaurant

By Mohsman |

Went here on a Wednesday night for dinner. They have an extensive, but expensive wine list. They were not busy, but it took a very long time before our wine order was taken, and a long time for it to arrive. Only then were we given menus. Service was slow-paced from then on. They have an interesting and varied menu of small plates, large plates, sushi, and entrees. Their much commented-on lobster shooters were interesting and creative, but not great. My (deconstructed) Caesar salad and hamachi sashimi were excellent. The mac & cheese with short rib and the Brussels sprouts were amazing. Were it not for the very slow service and over-priced wine list, I would have ranked this place 5-circles.

Great meal

By 1GiantsMSo |

Had a dinner meeting for six and very pleased. The lamb melted in my mouth, fantastic. The people who had venison thought is was wonderful. Service was excellent. Large selection of wines available and we had Flowers Pinot.

Great business dinner environment

By lsuwin |

We planned a dinner with 2 large (non -competing) customers to show our appreciation for their business for the past year. This restaurant was simply outstanding in every area for this event. The ambience was perfect, the food options/quality were amazing and provided something for every palate, the staff was engaging, professional and outstanding in their recommendations for every question posed by the group. Go there!

Abacus = Special

By Bink |

Abacus is special - now on my 4th visit this place always impresses. One of our go to spots for special occasions, out of town guests or a client dinner - you can expect and receive friendly professional service and very unique and special dining experience. On this visit during a 100+ degree evening in Dallas - the drinks were cold and seafood entrees hit the spot Lobster shooters are a must have. The pan-seared salmon with shrimp and squash is really really good! Finished the night with creme brulee - extravagant!

Amazing!

By Laura K |

We have eaten here many times, and it has been fantastic every time. We love to go on a weeknight and have the chef's tasting menu. Every course is a culinary adventure. Every mouthful is perfection. It is a great way to get to experience many fantastic dishes, instead of limiting yourself to one. Not that that is bad, the regular menu is fantastic as well. Price is outside of our everyday dining budget, but as a special occasion place it can't be beat. We look for reasons to celebrate with a visit to Abacus.

Move over 11 Madison

By VZapata16406 |

Doing our quarterly pilgrimage to Dallas we had dinner at Abacus. What an experience. We arrived early because DMA closed at 5 and our reservation was for 7. We thought we would spend 2 hours at the bar waiting for our table. We were enjoying our drinks when we were informed our table was ready. Wow!! The appetizers were impecable as our entrees but the crowning achievement were the deserts ( don't leave without them!!) The raspberry panacota with white chocolate was a treat to our eyes and our palate. The other 2 deserts ordered( yes, we were only 2 ) were impecable . The entire experience was fun and delicious!!

Dinner with friends

By blac5 |

Had the lamb chops and they were excellent, but a little over priced. $40 for two chops. Service was excellent and Kent, the owner, came around a couple of times to make sure everything was OK . All in all the food & wine couldn't have been better

I guess it all depends upon your server!

By shfine |

We haven't been to Abacus in probably 7 or so years, there are so many good restaurants in the city we try to dine at many. We dined with a party of six on Saturday night. Reservation time 7pm, seated at 7. Perfect. Ordered drinks and around 7:30 put our orders in b/c two of our friends needed to leave by 9. At 8:30, we finally got our appetizers (multiple orders of sushi). At this point it was clear our friends wouldn't be able to eat their main meals, so they were able to arrange for alternative plans for their kids so they could eat. Good thing they did, b/c we didn't get our meals until close to 9:15. It was so crazy late, we had our server (who had no sense of humor with us) to cancel the salad portion of our meals. The dinner came, and while it was delicious, the size definitely did not warrant the pricing. Please note, we eat at many fine restaurants and expect to pay good money for good food. But when you get tiny portions for huge pricing, it's hard to swallow. Dessert was good. Was it $250/couple good - no. For that money, you can go to multiple other dining establishments in Dallas and have a better dining experience.

Great service, inventive and excellent

Terrific service in a wonderful elegant atmosphere but fun too! definitely have the lobster shooters and the hot apple pie is fabulous. Local fabulous on a street full of great restaurants

Oh dear!

By ReRe.H |

My partner and I were going to be in Dallas for a couple of days-on doing some research and asking friends we were recommended this restaurant,we arrived at the restaurant to find it heaving a good sign very full of life with a good ambience so for our last night in Dallas we were looking forward to a great meal... unfortunately this was not the case we had starters they were well presented and tasted fine, then our main meals came my jumbo shrimps were overcooked and bricklike and my husbands steak was average both mains were not particularly flavourful did we come on a bad day? red wine was served freezing cold and the waiter seemed to think this was acceptable. This is not a restaurant that serves gastronomical food if it was it would not serve truffle fries swimming in lard and would know what temp to serve wine at,maybe i am used to the michelin starred restaurants in London and been spoiled but if this is all Dallas has to offer oh dear.. ..

New Tastes

By Jerri G |

The room and lighting were perfect as was our table.Waiter tried hard but he was difficult to understand. He seemed to mumble rather than project. But food was outstanding! The duck (roasted maple leaf farms, venison (hickory grilled pine nut crusted entree) and lobster (chilled butter poached appetizer) were all delicious and beautifully plated. Our Saldo zinfandel was a fitting accompaniment. And the two chocolate gratis truffles were decadent.

Upscale dining at its best

By russkwtx |

We enjoy coming here for the wife's birthday, and she has one every year, so back we went. As usual, the service is outstanding. The food is very good also. One of the best Bloody Mary's in Dallas! I ordered the beef tenderloin and it was very good. Maybe a bit raw but otherwise tasty. The wife got the duck breast and loved it. I love the Caesar salad so we had that too. The place is not cheap but you leave feeling as if you had a quality experience.

We had many great meals in Dallas and this was the best

By Pepper |

We were so happy here it wasn't funny. We were cautious about ordering the lobster shooters- and we adored them. The risotto was the best ever- no exceptions. My lamb was perfect- the steaks were perfect. The recommended wine, Scarlett was truly yummy and not as expensive as most on the extensive wine list. We liked the feel of the place- very modern and clubby ( although the people next booth over were too loud). Our waiter was knowledgeable and fun to work with. We wanted to come back again in a day but they were closed on Sunday. This is a world class restaurant.

Great ambiance, good food!

By Es25 |

Was expecting much more based on the reviews and it being listed on the top restaurants for Dallas. Overall I foudn it enjoyable however it is not a foodies paradise to put it!

We didn't want the evening to end...

By Michael S |

We enjoyed our evening at Abacus recently. As real "foodies" we look for restaurants such as this to provide great food, ambience, a super wine list all orchestrated by great service. Our server, Peter, couldn't have been better. Amiable and knowledgeable, he guided us through the menu helping us make super choices. The "Tamarind seared Texas Bobwhite Quail" could not have been better. Delicious and topped with a quail egg, a great start. Followed with and incredible Venison, perfectly prepared. My wife's lobster bisque was top drawer, and her beef filet cut with a fork. Our friends enjoyed the steak tartar and scallops; they raved about their rib eye steak and salmon. Desserts were superb. Great evening!

Excellent

Dined for our anniversary. Food was excellent. Sushi was top grade. Steaks cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The dessert was amazing too. Service was excellent.

Nice dinner

By Rita L |

I enjoyed my dining experience. We started with the corn soup, lobster shooters, and pomme frites. They were all full of flavor and delicious. We were also given a palate cleanser that was really good. I ordered the grilled shrimp which was good but I didn't care for the succotash that came with it. The brussel sprouts and mac and cheese were sooo good. Yum.

Incredible Dinner

Whether you dine a la carte or indulge in the tasting menu ..... all we be delicious! Go for dinner, romantic encounter, birthday or anniversary celebration, etc...for you will not be disappointed! Best Valentine's day dinner ever. Food and service was excellent as well as interesting with distinct touches.

Outstanding!

By Meredith L |

This was an amazing meal! We had a five course meal as part of a group business dinner with wine pairing for each course. Each course was meticulously prepared delicious flavors and excellent presentation. I asked for gluten-free and they accommodated all of my courses accordingly. This is certainly a place to go to impress!

Great all around

By Ikemx |

No doubt Ken does the best job of excellent food and service Had their restaurant week menu, the best meal and value in the couple of restaurants of these last 2 weeks. Service was outstanding, The crew in the bar that took care of me were excellent, Jason, Jake and John did a super job noth withstanding a huge and demanding crowd, they sus not miss a beat, pouring generous drinks and suggesting the menu items. The crudo appetizer was amazingly fresh fish elegantly presented, the salmon was also very good and their desserts were superb, their tiramisu with a nice variation to include salted caramel was delish, and their peanut butter tart was the best peanut butter dessert ever with the exception of one frozen version I had in Castle Rock in Colorado

Great, but not perfect!

By Graciela75008 |

We had a table of eight and all of us uniformly loved our meal. Among other things, we tasted the lobster shooters, ricotta ravioli, tortilla soup, and buffalo tartar as appetizers. Entrees included pork tenderloin, venison, duck, cowboy steak, and lamb. As sides, truffle risotto, grits, brussels sprouts. The food was outstanding and probably just about the best I had in Dallas. A few drawbacks though, (Is anything in life ever perfect?): it is pricey, when one considers appetizers for $20 and entrees between 36-65 and a total of $945, including tip, for eight guests. It is also quite noisy, so, even though we had a nice round table, we were only able to talk to the next person and still one had to shout (what is it with american restaurant owners thinking that people need loud music to enjoy a meal? Usually that brings about the first person raising his/her voice over the music and then the second person raising his/hers over the first person's voice and so on, until the entire restaurant is yelling and none knows what the other is saying! You rarely hear music in South American or European restaurants and people there are able to enjoy their meals out and have long and entertaining conversations. Did I just answered my question? They don't want us to have long conversations! They want rapid turnover, read, higher revenues). The desserts were inedible, way too sweet, fatty, and boring. I would come back but with a maximum of four guests and wouldn't bother with dessert.

Wide variety of excellent food

By IRCLLS |

We Ate here again this year while visiting Dallas. My son always orders sushi. I loved the venison entree while my husband also enjoyed his lamb tenderloin choice. They also have a selection of prime steaks, with prices to match, and a number of sides generous enough for several to share. "Small plates" are also on the menu, so there are plenty of combinations available. Many wine choices by the glass as well as per bottle are listed. It's an excellent restaurant where you will need reservations.

Restaurant week

By jpatter1 |

The place was packed. We sat in the bar, which was great. Nice design. Good service. Cocktails were perfect; not too sweet. Bread was good but served cold after we asked it to be heated. Calamari and fried green tomatoes were ok; too much breading. Couldn't taste the tomato or jalapeno. Shrimp entrée was excellent; wonderful relish; shrimp perfectly cooked. Duck was tough; grits were nothing special. Intermezzo: lemoncello mix was room temp and very sweet. Desserts were good.

Probably would not go back

By Sophie D |

Restaurant is divided into two sections, the bar and the restaurant. Bar is noisy but fun however restaurant is still noisy and not as pleasant so we felt. Lobster shooters were highly recommended and we did not care for them as much as they should have been more appealing. Food was just fine but not great. Service was very nice.

Great dinner with friends, over the top service!

By Otodoc |

After our business meeting, 9 of us joined for dinner at this highly rated restaurant.  We sampled some amazing wines while we shared numerous dishes in a busy place punctuated by plenty of very attentive wait staff.  We all started with the lobster shooters, hard to describe the amazing flavor!  The Artisan Caesar salad was great, I also had the Tempura Shrimp roll which had great flavor too.  We sampled the Roasted Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast, the Grilled Colorado Lamb Duo and the 8 oz Buffalo Tenderloin.  All had amazing flavors and were complimented with shared sides of the creamy Black Truffle Risotto, Tempura Baby Bok Choy (spectacular!!) and the spicy Sir Fry Brussel Sprouts.  We also found a way to share several desserts including the Peaches, Coffee and Bananas and another.  While not inexpensive, this restaurant meets all the criteria for awesomeness!  Definitely worth a visit for any special occasion or if you are in Dallas for visit.

Lobster Shooters are Amazing

By MrsPope9212 |

I was in town for business and the colleagues I was with suggested this place even if we just get the lobster shooters. When we arrived we were greeted with a gracious welcome. We ordered the lobster shooters, 3 per person, and we all wanted more!! The wine menus was phenomenal and our server helped guide us through it, which was extremely appreciated. One colleague and myself ordered sushi. The portions were huge! The other three individuals ordered steaks and sides and raved about their food. I've told everyone about the lobster shooters though and I can't wait to go back to enter them!

Amazing BBQ Pork Buns

By wurk2travul |

We had the Pork Buns at the Forks and Corks and it was AMAZING. I've never had better anywhere. My husband said it was the best thing there, and I guess we were right because it was announced at the awards ceremony that theirs tasted the best of the many restaurant offerings there. They didn't win only because they didn't make enough use of the sponsors products. I could eat them every day if I lived there- good thing I don't LOL

6 Stars? Is that Possible?

By PGAPRO2006 |

I don't know about the star system, but whatever it is, it's not enough. I could go on and on about the chic decor, vibrant bar, freindly, knowledgeable staff, what you want about is the food. And why not, it's the bomb! For appetizers let me suggest the Lobster Shooters, comes in a shot glass and it is so good it'll make you want to slap your grandmother. The sushi is handcrafted, fresh, with generous portions, my fave was the Pressed Snow Crabtree with cream cheese, shrimp and spicy mayo. Depending on your taste beef or seafood, there are excellent choices. We had the AKAUSHI Strip Steak and pan Seared Boat Scallops. Want something for kid? Try the Pomme Frittes with white truffle oil, they are to die for. Finished up with the Buttermilk Pie and a grand Marnier. The Chef is onsite, and actually cooks, not just a celebrity chef. Liked it so much we are going to use Kent Rathbun Concepts for our Holiday gathering. Truly looking to impress a date or significant other? This is the place!

Fabulous

This is the place to go for fine dining in Dallas. The food is very very good and the place is simply beautiful. Very good for special occasions or just a nice night out for dinner. The place is actuay not as expensive as one would expect either, unless you order a bottle of champagne or something like that. Do try the lobster shooters and the red velvet dessert. This place would be a favorite if I lived in Dallas, Texas. I will return if I come back to Dallas.

Excellent...!

By John D |

Dined at Abacus last night and it was indeed excellent. At my table, the appetizers included the wild boar papardelle, the crab salad and the rabbit sausage, and the entrees were the salmon, the lamb and the venison...each was outstanding. We also had sides of truffle risotto...stupendous but very filling...grits and Mac n cheese...both were good but portions are a little small. All in all, highly recommended!!!

Home run!

By Lufdoc |

Four of us ate here on a Thursday night. Five course tasting plus lobster shooters. Each course was beautifully plated and delightfully flavored. Nothing overdone. I especially appreciated the hint - not slam - of truffle on the beef tenderloin course. Today, truffle is everywhere and overdone. Here, it was perfect. The seared scallops were excellent, neither over or undercooked, perfect crust, not over salted. Service excellent; decor elegant yet modern. Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pape was fantastic. Thank you, Abacus!

Date Night in Dallas for DFW Restaurant Week

By Samantha W |

My husband and I had our first experience at Abacus this past weekend for their final night offering their DFW Restaurant Week menu. Parking options were either valet (free) or street parking (if you could find it). We had dinner reservations at 6 p.m., so there wasn't much street parking available in the area for a Saturday night; we opted for the valet. Although we arrived 15 minutes early, we were seated promptly, our table ready and waiting for us. It was a full house for restaurant week, but the service was top notch and all the food delicious. My only complaint was that it was a little noisy, but having never been any other time, this may just be a common atmosphere for the place. We tried the lobster shooters (delicious), and a range of appetizers, our favorites being the purple potato gnocchi and the lightly smoked hamachi crudo. I ordered the duck breast with the chili-white cheddar grits. I could eat those grits forever. And ever. And ever. They were so delicious! The duck breast (my first time eating duck) was also wonderful--good texture, well cooked. My husband ordered the seared Scottish salmon, which he said was the best salmon he had ever had ever. Dessert was a trio--a cake with blackberry compote (a bit forgettable), salted caramel tiramisu (amazing!), and a dark chocolate peanut butter tart (delicious!). Overall, we were very pleased with our experience and look forward to a time when we can return in the future!

Second time through, still impresses

By Izzy D |

Staff was excellent, service was prompt but not hurried. Great American cuisine with a twist. The bacon appetizer was amazing but the presentation was out of this world - having on old style wooden clothes pins (millennial may struggle with it!!). The wine list used to be better priced but still pretty solid

Out-of-Town Dining Experience from Down Under

By TexasOne H |

We booked via Open Table and made one request "Please seat us out of traffic areas". Abacus gave us the absolute worse table in the super high traffic area. The area was busy with busboys going back and forth with dirty dishes ... patrons back and forth to restrooms. This was only the beginning of our terrible out-of-town dining experience. We have dined all over the US, Europe, South America and Far East. We have never walked out of a restaurant. We felt waiting for a first course for an hour was sufficient time to wait. Our obviously over-worked server never took the time to explain the long delay. Personally, if I was GM, I would put a wait-staff skirt on both of the two 'suits' who were high-fiving their wait-staff. Never again if ever back in Dallas.

Favorite Dallas restaurant

By blue72jay |

Had another excellent meal at this restaurant. The lobster shooters were outstanding! Atmosphere is rich. The staff were very friendly. The entire meal and cocktails were delicious. Reservations here are one of my first plans when going to Dallas!

Worth every penny!

This was the first time my husband and I have eaten here. We love it! Definitely will return. I had the Crispy Bacon-Roasted Quail with Cornbread-Chorizo Stuffing, and it was amazing!!

Outstanding restaurant

By russkwtx |

We went here for my wife's birthday and wanted an upscale experience. Let me start by saying that there is nothing that is inexpensive here, but overall the value is worth the cost. The food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, and ambiance is sophisticated casual. There was nothing that I can find to criticize that would lead me to anything less than 5 stars. We arrived before our reservation and sat in the bar area. We started with a Moscow mule ($12 each). They were good but kind of unusual and I probably would not get it again. But it was a fun experience with the copper cup. We had an early reservation so the restaurant was pretty quiet when we started. About 7:30 people started pouring in and the noise level rose considerably. After we were seated and started to peruse the menu it obviously leans toward Asian fusion, which is fine with us. We started with the iconic lobster shooters just for the heck of it. They were unusual, and I thought they were quite good. The wife did not think they did much for her, but we agreed that it was a fun experience. I do think that once in your life is enough. We shared a Caesar salad ($14) and it was originally presented (see my picture). The dressing was the best we ever had. Simply delicious. The whole anchovy on top was unusual but not overpowering. It actually was the perfect Caesar and I am not sure I can ever eat a cheap one again. I ordered the ahi tuna ($40) and it was cooked to perfection. Probably the best tuna I have had in my life. The tuna was tender and flavorful. It was prepared perfected raw but was warm. The whole dish was simply outstanding. The wife ordered the lamb chops ($45) and they were the best she ever had. It came with a piece of pork belly which she said was also the best she ever had. The lamb was prepared perfectly and had a smoky, deep flavor of lamb. We also got some Bloody Marys for me and wine for her to add to the festivity. It was the best Bloody Mary I tried in my life. We ended with a thin mint dessert. The brownie was a bit hard but the rest of the accompaniments were very tasty. The portion was not too big so we left satisfied but not overly full. Overall, it was an excellent experience. It was an expensive meal but worth it. We had a memorable experience, and this restaurant is perfect for special occasions.

Great cocktails, inventive menu and excellent service

By Silverhamma |

We were here in a business dinner and enjoyed it quite a bit. The menu is quite creative and unique and all food was excellent. The gnocchi was fantastic, others in our group had the duck, salmon and fillet. Wine list expansive and cocktails were well done Give Abacus a try!

Still a Shining Star!

By Larry S |

Has been and after last night remains a 5 star! Wonderful, wide-variety for every course. Although ownership has changed in recent years, the food and service remain superb starting with the General Manager and throughout service staff.

Awesome food

By Chris M |

Great place to eat when in Dallas. I highly recommend the Lobster shooters. We dined on small plates between 4 people and had a great meal. It allowed us to try several dishes such as crab leg appetizer and sushi rolls.Service dropped off toward the end as a larger group came in and our waiter got tied up. I would definitely recommend this place.

FANTASTIC IN ALL WAYS

By TheLearnedDoctor |

Wow, what a great experience. We dined here once in March and once in April ..... both visits were flawless. The servers are extremely high end ... helpful, smart, well mannered ... they create a welcoming, laid back, relaxed feeling. The food is wonderful .... everything ... from the bread and cheese plate to the entrees and desserts. The chef came out to speak to us and thank us for coming on both visits, and asked us questions about how we liked our dinner. Very classy. All I can say is thank you .... I was so disappointed in our recent trip to Nick and Sams, our visits to Abacus made up for that and made me very happy to find a replacement for our go to fine dining spot.

Great food - eh service

By Abroad_with_Ash |

I would give this place 5 stars if the service was good. Both times we have been our server wasn't that impressive. Wouldn't really offer suggestions, was slow, seemed pretty disinterested. Everything we ordered both times was great though. Definitely on the spendy side, but a nice treat to celebrate something :)

A Foodie's MUST

By Julio F |

I asked the chef to surprise me, and so he did! It's rare one can order off the menu and have such an excellent experience. Surely one of the best in Texas. Pricy, but amazing.

Birthday Dinner

By ConAshBra |

This was my second visit to Abacus Restaurant, first time was 1/17/10. It was my and my neighbor's birthday and we went to dinner here to celebrate with our spouses. We were very pleased with the service as we were seated 30 min before our reservation, drink service at the bar was excellent while we were waiting to be seated. The lobster shooters were incredible, dinner was divine except for the side Risotto which was awful! The waitress forgot my friend's wine, so she gave it to her for free. Then after our meal was served the service became VERY slow. it took forever to get our check after dessert and the dessert was not only awful but it was not given to us for free despite it being our birthdays....which you would think for a $400 bill the dessert would have been free for our birthdays. We will not be rushing back to Abacus anytime soon.

Outstanding!

By drjandthemissus |

This is one of the best meals my wife and I have had this summer. We dined here with her brother and his wife on a Thursday in early August. We had a three-course set menu for the Dallas Restaurant week - $45 per person not including drinks or tip. Everyone loved the lobster shooters (bonus "fourth course" for restaurant week), the best starter at the table was the buffalo pot-stickers although my corn soup was good as well, the best main was my sake-seared shrimp. My wife and brother-in-law had the duck, which was well-prepared, but not as good as the shrimp. Dessert was a shared sampler plate. The dark chocolate peanut butter tart was the best of the trio. Overall, the food was outstanding, the service was great, the ambiance was classy. This has been one of Dallas's top restaurants for several years and its reputation is well-deserved.

Fantastic!

By travelarteest |

As serious foodies, my husband and I highly recommend this place. The menu is a combination of sushi and more traditional Texas dishes. May sound odd but it really works. I had a starter of lobster "shots" which was cold lobster rolled in thinly sliced cucumbers in a slightly sweet, thin sauce that was remarkable. My main dish was divers scallops with a pea purree crepe. My husband had salmon that was perfectly cooked. The service was impeccable. Nice vibe of understated high end.

Among the best

By Biz B |

Excellent, friendly service combined with delicious food. My wife and I each had different salads and entrees before sharing a desert. Every bite was scrumptious.

Flagrant disregard for mask mandate

By SandraD552015 |

We had dinner at Jasper's Uptown on Friday night, December 4. We were excited since we hadn't been since it changed hands. As we entered the restaurant, we saw a woman and man standing by the hostess desk with no masks on. The man was walking back and forth through the bar area. I asked the hostess if they did not require masks and she said that they did. The woman was blocking our way to the table so I waited until she went over to the bar. On the way to our table, we explained to the hostess that it wasn't her fault and told her that it bothered us when people don't seem to care about the health of other people. After seating us, the hostess told us that the couple were, in fact, the owners. We we pretty shocked that Business owners would be such a bad example to their employees and customers, not to mention flagrantly violating a law. We will not be back!

Everything was Perfect

By SusanDFW |

We went here for Restaurant Week and ate from the special menu. We were waited on rather quickly and service was efficient, polite and professional. They brought us water and a basket with two kinds of bread, both of which were very good. We had the Central Market fourth course certificate so we started our meal with a Lobster Shooter. The piece of lobster was amazingly flavorful based in a coconut curry broth. It definitely left me wanting more. Then I ordered the ravioli appetizer and my husband ordered the buffalo spring roll. Both were amazing and I would eat both of them again. For our entrees we had the grilled shrimp and flat iron steak. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly. The shrimp were huge and the bed of succotash they came in was really good. We thoroughly enjoyed both meals. Dessert was a plate of little pastries to be shared and all of them were yummy. We loved not having to make a choice and being able to share little bites of all of the offerings.

Loved this place

By Darlene3501 |

Abacus is an upscale restaurant and if you only have one night in Dallas as we did, make sure you eat here. The food was great - beautifully presented with interesting flavours. Don't miss the famous lobster shooters. Table service was friendly and knowledgeable and the bar staff were great too. On the night we were there it was obvious that most of the customers were locals enjoying a great night out.

The whole gourmet package

By tedingersoll |

Constantly changing menu features fresh meats, vegetables and fish complemented by an imaginative and well-selected wine list. The four of us chose pork tenderloin, lamb, duck breast and fish and were all overjoyed. Server Steve B (see "the math works" revue) is indeed a master presenter and "table master" whose intimate familiarity with the menu and wonderful personality make the evening all the more special. His recommended desserts were a wonderful cap on the evening. Only beef would be the wine list is a little pricey, especially on the low end, and represents California and France better than Spain and Italy. Our Crozes-Hermitage at $100 was, however, a terrific bottle(s!) and good value. Sound levels permit good conversation. You'll love Abacus.

Restaurant very empty. Went

By Joe C |

Restaurant very empty. Went for a birthday dinner. Our party ordered 3 meals. Two came out in a reasonable time. One came out 20 minutes later. The late meal was supposed to be medium rare steak. It was still mooing. The center was cold and red. The waitress took it back to the kitchen. Still rare and inedible. So she offered to substitute a salad instead. It came out with black slimy leaves. At least that meal was comped by the excellent waitress. Front of the house - excellent. Back of the house a total failure.

TOTAL PERFECTION IN DALLAS !!!!!!!!!!!

By Paulette K |

I am down here on business, decided to spend the entire weekend here since I flew down from NY. My new client was gracious enough to spend his Saturday evening entertaining me and brought me to this heavenly restaurant which I really did appreciate. True in saying "Ordinary has it's place, Just not here" Far from ordinary in every respect,!!!! . The chilled heirloom tomato gazpacho was so delicious. Those Lobster-scallion shooters which I was told must try, so I did...were off the charts! The tamarind seared Texas Bobwhite Quail was incredible. The service is impeccable, a real gem of a restaurant....Next time I visit I will definitely return.

One of Our All time Favorites

We always eat here when we are wanting to treat ourselves when visiting Dallas. The lobster shooters are a must but the whole menu is delicious. We had lamb and venison on this occasion and both were excellent. We will be back.

Delicious and great service

Terrific service and great food. Go for the lobster shooters and the buffalo tenderloin. Both are delicious. Save room for dessert, too.

Hot spot

Had a business meeting. Food was incredible. Conveniently seated so we could have a meeting away from regular diners. Would definitely go back possibly for a date night. Well worth the effort and value!!

Horrible for Restaurant Week

By Linda S |

We have been to Abacus several times in the past and always had a great experience. We were excited for Restaurant week there -- even though we know to expect service to not be at its best due to the large crowds. It was the food that we were really disappointed with. The buffalo spring roll appetizer had a nice flavor, but was very greasy. The calamari appetizer was very nice. My husband had the salmon. He said it was good -- but not great. I ordered the pork chop. The serving size was really small -- it was a bone in pork-chop, so there were only 2-3 oz. of real meat. I had trouble even cutting the pork chop with my knife-very tough and fatty. The flavor was not really there either. The dessert sampler tray was small for sharing (in my opinion). I didn't think any of the dessert samples were anything I would ever want to order again. Overall, very disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. I won't be back -- even when it isn't restaurant week.

Restaurant Week

By aspiringtraveler2013 |

We had dinner at Abacus during Restaurant Week. My husband had the Wagyu dumpling appetizer and the pork tenderloin entree. I had the mixed calamari appetizer and the salmon entree. The dessert is a sampling of three items. We opted for the wine pairings at 35 per person, which was a good value. We also ordered the mac and cheese side. The food was excellent with one unfortunate glitch: the calamari breading was too salty. The pork tenderloin entree was a revelation--I have never eaten pork tenderloin that delicious. My husband, the foodie, opined that the mac and cheese was the best he has ever had. The restaurant decor is sleek and elegant. The service was outstanding.

Incredible 5 star restaurant

By george d |

This restaurant raises the bar for food, creativity and service. The bar was awesome. This is a destination restaurant. I will plan a layover on my next trip to Dallas just so I can go to this restaurant.

Always great food

By jdbirch |

Start with a couple orders of lobster shooters (sip the sauce, then down the lobster) and some expertly made drinks, then maybe the hamachi cheeks. All the time argue over whether this is the best place to eat in Dallas....

Daugther's birthday

By Melinda C |

Took my daughters there for a birthday celebration. Loved it. Had a tough time deciding between sushi and a larger plate. Ended up ordering several small sushi plates between the 4 of us. Next time we will order fewer sushi items and share a larger plate with it. Definitely a repeat.

Good food, but way overpriced.

By JimB |

Two couples went for dinner a week ago. The atmosphere was fine and the service was good. I had a little trouble finding something on the menu to my liking - but that may just be my taste. No cocktails and yet the bill was moderately over $100 per person which seemed excessive for salmon my wife had and a scallop "small plate" meal I had.

Been visiting for many years, but this trip we were underwhelmed

By TexExp |

We tried the "Chef's tasting menu" which is a 5 course meal for $65. The salmon and cheesy focaccia bread was excellent. Also, the Kale/Spinach side was quite good. But after that, the Tuna was a bit chewy as well as the lamb. The beef tenderloin was more chewy, close to rubbery. The sauces were meh... and desert was ok. Our waiter was good, but the asst. who delivered our food and described it used very broken English and we had to have it repeated each time. Also, our finished plates sat in front of us for what seemed like an eternity. After many years and counting Abacus as our favorite restaurant, this trip left us feeling that the quality had degraded and the prices had increased. Feeling sad.

One of my favs in Dallas.

By Montgomery H |

Work, date, friends, family, whatever, Abacus is the spot to be. It is pretty hard to get a reservation but worth the wait. The cocktails do not disappoint and the food is fabulous. Must go when living or visiting in Dallas.

Elegant restaurant with delicious food and excellent service

By ip_diva |

My companion and I dined here. He'd made a reservation and we were promptly shown to a table, a quiet booth. The waiter was attentive but not annoying. We first tried their famous cocktails, then two appetizers, an entree and dessert. The pace was absolutely perfect. Each selection arrived at the perfect time, so we never felt rushed. the atmosphere was quiet, enabling conversation using quiet voices and with the feeling of privacy. Everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for an elegant dinner.

Good Cocktails

By micahdesi |

I would definitely like to come back next time for the food. Unfortunately some friends and I got to the restaurant late and were unable to dine in the dining room. However we were able to lounge in the bar area and enjoyed a couple of good cocktails. Specifically, I enjoyed their Old Fashioned. I definitely would recommend that to anyone that enjoys a good Old Fashioned.

Wow! Not prepared for the best

By bristolroad |

My wife and another couple what a place every aspect done so well! The menu is a adventure in dining. Small plates and sushi. The sushi rolls where best in my long memory.

Another Restaurant Week find!

By Sea Ya' I |

Getting a reservation at Abacus on a weekend has been elusive to Debra and me. However, we decided to eat there mid-week and during Restaurant Week. We were able to reserve the time we wanted. The restaurant has a very good reputation in Dallas. I chose a pork loin entrée and Debra enjoyed salmon. Both were very good. Even though the portions were smaller than their regular menu it was plenty. We are looking forward to returning and ordering from the full menu.

Good Food and Drinks

By Skidea |

It had been a while since our last visit, and after we back it back this past weekend, we were reminded of why we enjoyed it! We sat and ate/drank in the bar area. Our server, Lucky, was terrific (very attentive), and all his recommendations were excellent! I cannot ever having anything here that I did not like. The only thing to be aware of (and others have pointed this out) is the small serving sizes. I had to order a fair number of things to feel full (and I'm a pretty small person). Other than that, everything was great!

Absolutely wonderful

Everytime I go to McKinney I eat dinner at this resterant. Truely and amazing experience and meal. Thank you.

A MUST when in Dallas!

By jenny04811 |

Akaushi beef was the BEST steak I've ever had! The flavor was wonderful, cooked to perfection and it melted in your mouth. Black truffle risotto was amazing. Cocktails were delicious. Friends got the quail, grouper and scallops over lobster mashed potatoes (which was soooo good!) and everyone loved their meals.

More than I expected!!

By MCPTAP |

This was was delightful two and one-half hour. The service was amazing. The small plate of seared scallops then the salad with fried oysters followed by the pork tenderloin was amazing. The evening ended with a pear tart. I was truly amazed at the service and the quality of food.

bang for your buck

By peacenlove l |

No its not cheap. But it is a meal worth every pretty penny. And then some. Any special occasion, use that as an excuse to go to this spectacular restaurant. One of the best in Dallas.

HELL YES!

By Singlespeedgal |

Incredible surprise. The food is innovative, creative and dynamic. In an unassuming location and somewhat off the beaten path. Worth the trip.

Went back and still disappointed

By Rescue |

After waiting a year, we decided to go back and use the gift card given because the last time we went it was not a good evening. This time the server took a long time to arrive, drinks were late, food was even later (we were told twice, "It will be here shortly" with over 10 minutes passing each time) and ascertainment did not occur in a timely manner. Food was delicious but two were lukewarm at best. While the manager gave us a free dessert it will be a very long time before we go back, if ever.

Lovely at every stage

By Friscoliz |

From the lovely bar with great bartenders to a marvelous dining room with great waiters; the service is just wonderful. The food is beyond delicious with interesting choices and still mainstream if you want it. Dining room is so beautiful with subdued noise levels and comfortable chairs. Our waiter ( Irish guy married to receptionist) gave us great direction on ordering and was there when we wanted him without hovering. Just a great restaurant!

Fantastic!

By RichardLovesDining |

If you sell quality steak, the staff knows Pittsburgh-rare by name and then the steak gets delivered Pirttsburgh-rare perfectly, then i personally couldn't be happier. Incredible bone-in filet, risotto, lobster shooter and Scallop app. Beautifully appointed and lit restaurant (occupationally aware). This is a premiere Dallas establishment. Will return for the Diver's Scallops.
