Good food, helpful staff.

By alexa66 |

Other reviewers have said it very well - this place feels very authentically middle eastern - so don't expect glamour. It is in a nice little courtyard of the strip mall and next door is a hookah bar - staff there quickly spotted we were in the wrong place! The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. No alcohol is served but they appear happy for you to BYOB and will supply wine glasses for you. A few doors down is a slightly desperate liquor store with a very limited selection of wines and the waiter at Jerusalem Grill sent us there when we turned up thirsty but empty handed.

Good food, nice prices

By J C |

This was a last minute decision and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was nice and low key. Food was good, rice was a little dry but it was the end of the evening so it was acceptable to me, but maybe not to others.

Different choice

By Ricardo H |

Wasn’t too crazy about the service, the waiter insisted my wife have the lamb gyro meat and she wanted chicken. I finally told him that she has difficulty digesting the meat. He finally understood, it may have been a language barrier but he was rather pushy. We also ordered an appetizer that never arrived plus we ordered our entree’s. The table next to us ordered after us they got their food before us, entrees and still no appetizer. Our waiter seemed too preoccupied in trying to convince my wife to order the gyro meat. The food was goo which was they’re saving grace. We got a huge naan and it was ice cold, I suppose it’s supposed to be like that. Their version of bread or chips.

A DELICIOUS DISPLAY OF ARABIC SALADS, APPETIZERS AND KABABS..

By Dr Dee J |

Food is so fresh and delicious and quickly available from the buffet-style display at Jerusalem Grill. I tried the daily special of chicken breast with mild spices and sauce and it was great. The different Arabic salads and appetizers displayed are all very delicious and simply fantastic. With prices being so reasonable, this grill is becoming a regular stop for me to meet friends or pick up food for the family on a weekly basis. Eating in, you can enjoy the food as the hand-painted mural takes you back to Jerusalem and the tent decor makes you long for a cup of hot tea after the meal. The grill also offers an adjacent hall for meetings and banquets as well as a hookah place right next door. What a treat!

Very good restaurant!

By LMCampo |

The food in Jerusalem grill is authentic and delicious!!!. We had the family dinner which includes all the appetizers, shawarma, falafel and mixed kabobs, perfect for a group of four!! BYOB is a nice bonus!!!

Dont’t go without a high chair

By Stacy F |

I was so in the mood for Mediterranean food. Went there with my two year old and they only had two high chairs for the entire restaurant and both were being used. So I left and won’t go back. Apparently not family friendly

The worst restaurant I have ever seen

By suleyman g |

All waiters are so rude even the cooker and the waiter had told us we have to pay tips no less 20% so I will never go there again also I'm gonna say my all friends that nobody doesn't go there

Fresh and Flavorful

By Susan F |

This is a go-to restaurant for me as a native San Antonian. The food is always fresh and the portions are plentiful. The best hummus I've ever eaten. If you like more lemony flavored food you will LOVE Jerusalem grill. Everything is seasoned perfectly. My Lebanese friend said the food was better than her grandmas. The grilled fish is superb. Jerusalem Grill is a MUST if you love Mediterranean food.

Great food and proud owner/cook

By ABE49 |

Very authenic and tasty food. Try some combos to get an idea what you like the best for your second trip. I DO recommend this place highly!!

Yummy Mediterranean Food

By drdmromeo |

We had dinner here recently, and all of us had terrific meals. I loved the dolmas, and my lamb kebab platter was delicious. Hummus is also really good. Plates are large, so be prepared to share. Definitely will return on our next trip to San Antonio.

love the hummos

By funlifeSanAntonio |

Hummos was the best! Had not found a hummus I liked but this one is great. The texture is smooth and the flavor superb

Not sure what the hype is ...

By BVS29 |

My parents and I went here based on many good things we heard about this restaurant. Menu looked good and we all ordered something different. I ordered the chicken kabob sandwich, my father the beef shawarma over hummus and my mother the kabob plate which included salad, hummus and rice. We understand the food takes a while since everything is cooked fresh so that was not a big deal for me. Waiter was short and not friendly but again, that's not a big deal for me either. We get our order (from a different waiter) and it's wrong. Mine included pickles which I do not like and asked for no pickles and my mother got the same sandwich I got instead of the plate. We had been waiting for a while and were very hungry so she reluctantly accepted the sandwich. We had waited enough. They did offer to bring her what she had actually ordered but we did not want to wait for another plate. The food, in my opinion was just ok. I go to Pasha's Mediterranean Grill (the one at Wurzbach) at least once a week so it is my comparison to all other Mediterranean restaurants in San Antonio/US that I go to and this, was no Pashas. Don't really think I would come back. They were kind enough to bring us each a dessert due to the mix up and that was nice to do. The desserts were good. Overall I think the food, service and restaurant are average for sure.

Had a great time.

This place is awesome and the food is great ,great hospitality in service.the server was very informative about the dishes.

Good Middle Eastern Food - Casual - Inexpensive

By westernfb |

Ate here with family in May 2012. Management appears to be making a concerted effort to create an atmosphere that is welcoming to people of all backgrounds. I ordered a vegetarian platter that included standard Middle Eastern fare (falafel, hummus, etc.). That, and the freshly prepared bread, were very good, and it wasn't terribly expensive. Wish we'd had room for desserts, as they looked good. Thumbs up. I would go back.

Great food and service

By Stephanie H |

Everything we ate was delicious. We really enjoyed the falafel and lamb. The maharmara was also really good. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly.

Gyro is one of the best around

By 45Cocojr |

Have been here for lunch a few times and always order the lamb gyro plate. Meat is very very tender and has a great flavor! Maybe next time I'll try something different but am just so darn happy with the gyro plate!

Amazing food!!

By Kristy O |

This is the best Mediterranean food I have ever had!! Service was great! The chicken kabobs were amazing, along with the hummus and roasted eggplant. We will be back again soon.

Authentic and great!

By Jessica S |

The food and service were exceptional! The waitstaff was great about getting us anything we needed and checking up on us. The servings were more than enough and we ate more than we could handle. Everything was spot on. Much better than Pasha in the sense that everything was more Arabic than Persian. If you want authentic Middle Eastern I recommend Jerusalem Grill. The falafel was perfect so was the sharwama, Kefta, sauces, and salads. This will be our new go to place when in San Antonio, it should be yours too!

second visit in two weeks

By jaabo46 |

Very impressed on first visit. Shared dinner for two. Went back a week later with five family members and let the chef work his magic with the family dinner. Prepare to be amazed, even if you thought your home cooked Lebanese food was tasty. We will be back. Often.

Great Place for Mediterranean Food!

By Schmicky |

My girlfriend and I have been here twice. It is excellent for Vegans/Vegetarians. The service is great. I highly recommend Muhammad as your waiter. The restaurant provides generous portions. Go check this place out!!!

Have The Family Special

By gpbvkb |

Son and daughter-in-law took us to this place. Place was empty, but had wonderful service and recommended the family special - lots of food at a good price! It's all good and we'll be back!

Delicious but healthy food at agood price

By Zsadj |

Went to this restaurant twice after seeing it on Groupon but each time I forgot to take the groupon! Very simple decor with good service and freshly prepared Mediterranean dishes. The servings were very generous and so reasonably priced! I had an vegetarian meal the first time...great hummus and falafel and vegetables. Then my second time I went back and tried a chicken meal which was seasoned so well. I plan to go back again and take several friends who also like Middle Eastern food and are looking for healthier choices eating out. I did not realize that you could BYOB so I will know to have my friends bring their own wine.

a great Mediterranean spread

By sugarandvinegar |

Everything was fresh and well-prepared, plus the presentation and the portion sizes were better than I am used to from similar Mediterranean restaurants. Pita, hummus, and baba ganouj were all great!

One of the best middle eastern restaurants in SA

By bryanac23 |

This was an unlikely suprise that we found in San Antonio and now one of our favorite middle eastern restaurants in San Antonio. If you go, you must have some of their rice - its delicious. The atmosphere is also nice with a beautiful mural on the wall and comfortable seating areas. The staff was very friendly and more than willing to explain any items on the menu.

Mediocre

By tasyed786 |

We visited the place Sunday night, I believe the resturant is open until 10. We arrived at 8:30 and felt very rushed by the waiter, as soon as we were seated the waiter wanted to take our order. We tried the grill platter which comes with three choices of the kabobs and five appetizers. The waiter decided to make decision for us on which appetizers we should have, even though we wanted something else. He brought the cheapest appetizers from the menu, two different types of salad, two different types of humus and the yogurt sauce. The pitta they gave us was cold and right from a grocery store, the kabobs were ok. Very disappointed.

Great lamb kabobs. That's the way to do it !!!

By YumGuru |

After trying many Arabic and Turkish restaurants in San Antonio, in absence of a Persian restaurant, finally found a place that knows how to prepare grilled lamb like the Persians and the Greeks.

best Mediterranean food restaurant in US

By Mohammed A |

one of the best Mediterranean food restaurant in US, I like their food, service and the desert (Baklawa). Thank you for the delicious food. Mohammed

Real Mediterranean food.

By Sa_local2014 |

Been there many times. Always had a good experience. Food is great. Service too. Many choices. Fresh food. Love the lamb and rice on Friday.

It was just ok...

By Ashly S |

I was so very excited to try this restaurant however it didn't exactly live up to my hopes and dreams. When we walked in we were immediately greeted with the wonderful smell of shwarma, I couldn't wait! We were greeted very nicely and given a table, the service was great very courteous and always available. We had the smoked eggplant app, mixed kabob and mixed shwarma plate. The reason I give this restaurant 3 stars is because I think the meats lacked flavor..they were a little bland per my taste and a bit of a downer I expected more zing. Also my shwarma was very dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp :/ but the rice was amazing! As was the hummus, the appetizer, and bread! Definitely worth a try we will be back to try again :)

Hidden Gem!

By djfluth |

On entering, immediately greeted and seated by waiter, Muhammad, who is wonderful! Began with lentil soup, which was perfect. Tried three different meat dishes and a variety of vegetables - all were great. If you like Middle-Eastern food, this is a place to try.

Delightful surprise!!

By Roseychef22 |

Dive for sure, but the food is outstanding! Felt like mom's kitchen. Wait staff was great. Ate here for a graduation luncheon of 11 & our bill was $200. Homemade hummus, succulent lamb-delicious!! We will be back!

Very good place

By snehal_tatsme |

Just as the name suggest this place gives you a feel of Mediterranean food, music, and ambience. Serving size was quite a bit so make sure how hungry you are before ordering.! The prices are affordable so you can relish the delicacies. And yes don't forget to try different type of baklava!

Phenomenally good quality and value

By coyotebanjo |

Phenomenally good quality and value. Friendly informal atmosphere, generous portions, very fresh ingredients, subtly flavored. Excellent value, especially in the various "family-style" entrees. Easily the Near Eastern cuisine I've had in Texas.

Middle -eastern HALAL food

By baba2cool |

Middle -eastern food specialty casual dining restaurant serving HALAL food. Ambience is casual, service is courteous and it is a 70 - 90 people seating restaurant. Lentil Soup $ 4.59 Average and avoidable. FATOUSH SALAD $ 6.99 Lettuce , tomatoes ,garlic, cucumber , parsley, mint, sumac spice, toasted pita bread, in a special herb & olive oil. Good KAFTA BEEF KABOB $ 13.99. GOOD CHICKEN KABOB$ 13.99. GOOD GRILLED FISH ( TILAPIA FISH) 10.99. Very good They have all middle eastern cuisines, Gyros, shawerma, etc. We also tried the dessert KUNEFE, but it was very average and is avoidable. Turkish tea is served in a very large mug , which please note. It is very good.

A must place to go

By Jo E |

We often go here, the food is consistently excellent and value for money. The staff are wonderful and the service is quick. Our favorite is the delicious hummus and mushrooms with chicken kabobs which comes with the mixed grill platter. If you are looking for freshness, this is the place.

Very good Mediterranen food. Friendly service.

By Diane M |

We have visited here several times, and always enjoy the food and friendly service. The Dolmades are tasty, falafel was very good and LOVE the Turkish coffee and Baklava.

Flavourful kababs

By T saad |

Got this name from one of the food review page and wanted to try when i was visiting with my family on holidays. We wanted to stay at hotel, so gone for take away option. The place was quite Cousy, we picked up the items and wanted to tried the mixed platter and kababs. Order came pretty quick, food was flavourful. We liked the beef kababs and also the rice was tasty. Will come again !

Consistently wonderful food and service.

By djfluth |

We were immediately greeted at the door. Our waiter, Muhammad, helped us pick the right food. Wonderful lamb! Wonderful Grape leaves. Great food and great service.

By flipster83 |

This place is awesome. The food was great and was brought out fast. The portions were large and very filling. Give it a try you will not be disappointed. Definitely coming back again.

Amazing food at wonderful price.

By jcortabi |

Great little place. Must try the gyros, hummus, and rice. Just make sure to byob, they don't serve alcohol.

Lunch

By Michael B |

Great affordable Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern restaurant. Food is served fresh and in ample portions. They don’t have pictures on their menu so you may to use your phone to google a picture if desired. Recommend it.

Still looking for good Middle Eastern food in SA!

By Esmeralda V |

The food was just average. The muhammara tasted like it had ketchup in it. The Labne was straight out of the container. The grill for 2 was supposed to have 3 skewers of meat, there were only a few cubes. If you don't know what all this is SUPPOSED to taste like, you would think it was good. Once you have had good Middle Eastern food, you will find this place average at best.

not-so authentic but good food anyway

By dracones |

food is good and prices decent, just expect to see in the menu stuff like shaorma wrap with french fries. This restaurant seems to be willing to give up authenticity for some extra profit. I wonder when will they serve Mac n' cheese as well. If you're a frequent guest of middle-eastern/mediterranean restaurants you will not be impressed. If not, you'll probably like it. Not a big variety of dishes. Hookah bar next door.

Oh yeah J-Grill

By bigAL619 |

Trying a new place in San Antonio while traveling Ate the Labneh and Shawarma. Great flavors and you can eat outside too! The staff was friendly and attentive. With the Hookahs and projectors the patio has a great feel for this time of the year no heat or humidity.

Love all of it

By Gerald T |

Just a first class experience with food, music, service, atmosphere. Menu has a lot of price variety and options. All dishes are fresh and well prepared. Portions are BIG!

Can't Wait To Go Back

By Susan G |

If you are looking for exotic Middle Eastern ambiance... this isn't it, but I have found the best food in the holes in the wall. Not quite a hole in the wall, but it is very casual with friendly waitstaff pushed into the corner of an older shopping plaza. Don't be surprised to see men sitting outside smoking hookah pipes. An adventurous friend and myself like to try new foods so we don't hesitate to visit different restaurants... the first time we went, it was because it was close to the Ingram Mall... the second time we went, it was because the food is so different. We usually get the From Our Grill: Mixed for Two. We have tried almost everything on the appetizer menu and love the balance of flavors, textures and temperatures. What is nice is that it goes beyond the Greek food (which I love!!!) that most US people eat... Price is average for most restaurants... Portions are great... The atmosphere is casual and welcoming... I read in one of the other reviews that this wasn't authentic. Perhaps not, but I wouldn't know. In the US, many international foods are "Americanized" to tempt the widest palate. The great thing about the US though is that we are a varied palate. I will just have to travel and taste to see how they compare, but I somehow think I will still enjoy the flavors and the family feel.

Delicious!

By Merlin C |

Great food at an incredible price. We tried one of the sampler platters and everything was delicious. It was a great find. The only downsides are the location and atmosphere. It's in a strip mall slightly outside the city. Finding it can be a problem. Also, the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, but ignore that and just go for the food!

Boyfriend took me here to expand my palette

By dluna17 |

And BOY I'm glad he did! We just finished shopping at the mall right across the street when we were both hungry for something different than the standard Whataburger or fast food. He told me about this place from a previous visit years back and I took his word for it. I'm really picky when it comes to international/foreign foods (sorry!) I was completely blown away as soon as I walked in. It smelt of meats and savory goodness and our waiter was kind enough to clean off a booth and serve us. I HATE HUMMUS. But their pita+hummus plate was to die for!!! Lastly, can we just talk about how much food you get??? Its crazy big for a really good price! I got the lamb kabob plate and oh my goodness, it fed me that night without making a dent and still had lunch left for work the next day. Lastly the ambience was very warming and almost felt like you were at home with how friendly the staff was. Kudos for playing great Hebrew(?) pop music too, reminded me very much of the latin beats I dance to with my family. Will DEFINITELY be back for more! ❤

One of my favorite places ever

By Taqi A |

One of my favorite places ever. The staff was really helpful in making me chose my food and i was not disappointed. Actually me and my friend were crying from how good the food was including the grilled meats, the appetizers, and the bread.

Very Fresh and Authentic

By ihatefakenames |

You have a choice of ordering off the menu or going through their cafeteria like line. Large array of just made dips and salads made in the Arabic style. Vegetarians would do very well here. I chose a lamb stew for my meat option and it was delicious! The best part was the bread, a flat bread just out of a brick oven. When I asked, I was told it is the style from Iraq. Recipes and styles were similar to food we've had in Morocco, Jordan, Israel and Palestine. The staff were very friendly and eager to accommodate any wish. They were happy to give tastes of items and to explain the source recipe or culture. Be aware the name may give a Jewish impression, but the Al Aqsa Mosque is painted on the front of the restaurant. This is a clean, simple restaurant newly opened. It isn't fancy but you get very good food at a reasonable price.

Horrible food, lazy service

By angiekwhite |

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy. The meat was dry, salad under seasoned, no condiments and non existent service.

Narrowing the choices

By Larry R |

This was our first Middle Eastern meal since returning from Turkey and maybe an unfair comparison, but it wasn't as tasty and well-prepared as meals we found in restaurants around that country. We liked the hommos especially, also the baba ghannoug, labneh, roasted eggplant, and shawarma beef, which was particularly tasty. The shawarma chicken, kabobs of beef, lamb and chicken too dry on this night and not as tasty as we expected. Many will like the maharmara roasted peppers and chili, quite spicy. The service was excellent and they will adapt the menu to what you want. The prices are very good. you can get five appetizers and rice plus three kabobs for $26.95, and they split some of our appetizers to give us more to taste. Although you must bring your own beverage if you want alcohol, Jerusalem Grill offers many flavored teas, smoothies, as well as yogurt drink, Turkish coffee and numerous coffees, soft drinks and juices. Dining is inside or out. Next time I'd stick to the shawarma beef on plate or sandwich and the appetizers we liked best.

Not good

By Simone B |

We must be spoiled from our excellent choices in Houston. We went with the reccomendations on Ta, but we did not like the food. The meat was dry and the veggies were cold. The best thing on the menu was the hummus.

Good food! (and excellent hummus)

By elmundoaldia |

The place looks clean and I think they have worked on giving the restaurant a middle eastern atmosphere that I personally enjoyed very much. The food was good, not the best middle eastern food I have ever tried (it might be because I'm vegetarian so I didn't get to try the all the meat options) but good enough to recommend it to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The hummus, though...oh the hummus, so delicious! :) I'd come back!

Great Change of Pace

By Gary H |

What a fantastic place for a great meal. My wife and I ate dinner at this wonderful restaurant last night and thoroughly enjoyed our Chicken Shawarma platters. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant is clean and has great service. We will return.

New location on 1604 — good food, loud.

By Dave D |

Really good food here. You just can’t go wrong. The only complaint was the noise. Very loud. They need to add some soft surfaces to absorb the sound. Again, good food.

Excellent Mediterranean food

By James H |

This place is fantastic. The food is fresh, and the baklava is seriously some of the best I've had. The service is very relaxed, so it's not a place for a hurried experience. I would definitely recommend eating here.

Delicious and Healthy! A Gem.

By Dominic23 |

This is a rare gem in the SA food scene. Healthy, fresh, tasty, authentic, family-owned. Instantly makes it into one of my top 10 (maybe top 5) restaurants in town - and that includes restaurants like Cured, Bohanan's, and Botika. Trust me, if you like Mediterranean food, you'll love this place. The service is phenomenal and the restaurant is very clean. Do yourself a favor and just go.

Yummmmmmm

By Elizabeth Jane L |

This restaurant has quickly become one of our favorites. It’s in a convenient location and we are always seated quickly. The space is quite large inside. The food? Soooo good. Hummus, soft cheese spread, fresh pita bread and many Mediterranean dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and care.

BEST IN SA

By 60956Mark |

HANDS DOWN Most authentic, and the hot bar choices change daily, I go here to eat at least 2x a month and have never had a complaint

Lamb Gyro a pleasant surprise

By ronnim |

We went to the Jerusalem Grill because of a Groupon, but will return because of the food and friendly service. We ordered a chicken gyro platter because we have never been fond of lamb. By mistake we were served a lamb gyro as that is the popular choice. Now we can see why. One taste and we were hooked. Our waiter apologized for the mistake and brought us an order of chicken, but we happily finished the lamb. Kudos to our waiter.

Good place to eat

By geninva |

Food was very good. We enjoyed several items such as fafalel sandwich baba ganougg(misspelled), smoked eggplant, Jerusalem salad and torshi plate. Many dishes on menu and more to discover. Will return.

Would go back just for the pita bread!

By Brenda S |

We live out of town and were visiting UTSA and family in San Antonio in February 2020 (pre-COVID). One of their favorite restaurants is the Jerusalem Grill and since they know we love gyros, they recommended it for an early dinner / late lunch. Our family of 4 met the other 9 family members there (including 3 young children) and had such a great time — the food was delicious and everyone left stuffed. Most of us ordered the gyros, plus they also give you huge fresh pita bread to share and snack on while you’re waiting for your food (like a bread or chip basket at other restaurants). It was sooooo good.

Great Gyros!

By tracy f |

I know it really cliché to order the gyros' but they are just so good not to try. I have never had roasted cauliflower until I tried it there. It was absolutely amazing. I don't care for veggies on my gyro so I ordered it plain with just the sauce and it was every bit as delicious as my husband said his was fully loaded. A lot for food for the money.

LAMB!!!

By KingFatty |

If lamb is your thing then I would go here. Real gyro meat and kabobs. I was hungry late night in the hotel couldn't find anything open went on google and put in "late night food San An" and this was one of the places that came up. Something different since I only have been eating Mexican food. Lamb shank was good and I love any food that is slow cooked so lamb beef mix gyro was right up my ally. Late night and hookah bar next door if you like hookah.

Authentic, but know what you are coming for.

By Randolph W |

This is a very good restaurant. The food is Mediterranean and authentic; however, if is more of a blend of countries than just Israeli or Palestinian food. The people that work in the kitchen and the wait staff are extremely nice. They too are authentic (and occasionally difficult to understand) but that's what make the experience that much better. This is not a 'nice sit-down table cloth romantic' restaurant. But then from my visits to the Middle East, this is just exactly what you experience in their world. It is a fun and lively place...and again, know what you are coming for so that you are not disappointed. It is busy, non-classy, English and Arabic on the windows and Al Jazeera-America on the television. Expect all of this...and with their outstanding food you will leave happy, full and with money still in your pocket. Also, no alcoholic are served, but you can bring your own bottle.

Ive had better

By Marie S |

It's okay....you are better off going to Verts! The flavor just isn't here. The service is great, and this place has a great location, the food it's OK for Mediterranean food. Definitely not bad.

Authentic middle eastern food

By ldeimos |

I dined here with my fiance who is from Israel. He said the hummus was authentically prepared, and enjoyed his lamb dish tremendously. A little hard to find-- set back in a large strip mall. It smells amazing inside, but the ambiance is a little unrefined-- plastic booths, cheap bistro chairs. But that's okay, because the food is delicoius.

Amazing food and Service!

By Jonathan K |

Jerusalem Grill is one of the best restaurants in all of San Antonio. It is the only place that my extremely picky kids request outside of pizza so we order at least twice a week. Our go-to is always the kafta and chicken kabob family order with all the amazing sides (garlic sauce, labneh and dolmas are outstanding) and there are never any leftovers! The service is impeccable , flavors are spot on and we recommend this as an absolute "try before you die" SA restaurant!!

Wow!

By AmericanExplorers |

This place is awesome-it just became one of my favorites! We will definitely be back. We ordered the family dinner-which was a bunch of appetizers & mixed grill to share. Worth the money & so delicious!

Authentic Middle Eastern Food

By uedc |

The service and food were great! The owners are from Ramallah and provide fresh food including lamb kibbeh, shwarmeah, and baba ganough. Hard to find, tucked away in a corner of shopping center. They are great for families as well. You know it is authentic when the patrons are from the Middle East.

Gyros and fries

By Mary B |

Authentic. Delicious! Well served! Did I mention delicious! This is the place for gyros in San Antonio. Great price for a great meal. Clean, pretty, easy access.

The food and athmosphere was fantastic.

By cocoClarenville |

Wow ! We visited and dined at several visits during our trip/tour and yours has to be the best overall. The food and atmosphere was excellent and the staff were courteous , friendly, fast and accommodating. If we do this tour again, we will surely look you up and be back inside for more of your excellent hospitality and well prepared meals.

Culinary treat!

By caroatbastrop |

My daughter returned from a trip to Israel and was looking for a certain dessert..she found this place. Our family went to dinner and were treated to the most incredible culinary experience! We loved Mediterranean food but this was the best we have ever had. The pita bread lacked somewhat, but because everything else was so well prepared and rich in flavor that we returned the next week!!!! We tried their family special which for $16.00 per person you try every appetizer on the menu and several of their meats...really well worth the price. The kenafa, baklava and other pastries were wonderful...if you like coffee...try their flavorful Turkish coffee - WOW...don't drink the "sludge at the bottom". AND the best part is you can BYOB...we brought our wine and enjoyed! The service was great, food was excellent, and we loved the waiters!!!!

The service is incredible and the food is tasty in a charming enviroment

By 970marya2014 |

We both had the falafel and hummus plate which came with interesting flatbread. We also had tabbouleh and a delicious dessert made with phyllo dough and chocolate. They were especially attentive since we told them this was the first time we had been there. I look forward to going again soon.

Highly Recommended

By okayfinejamie |

Always amazing. The shwarma is out of this world! The hummus is always on point. I crave this restaurant on the regular!

Great service, great atmosphere, awesome food

By Andrea S |

I can't imagine someone just happening on this place! You have to know where it is, and apparently many people do! I met a friend here for lunch and all of the tables and booths were filled in minutes. I ordered a kefta gyro (though I ended up with a beef gyro that was still good!)with a side of labneh and my friend ordered a lamb gyro with a side of baba ghanoush. We also had an appetized of fried cauliflower. All of the food was amazing. The servers were very attentive and made sure our glasses were never empty. What I did like is that all of the servers help each other. It wasn't like waiters were assigned to tables and would pass by empty glasses to just take care of his tables. As another reviewer said, many of the patrons were Middle Eastern, and it is a pleasant experience to hear Arabic spoken and played on the television as you eat. This place is very laid back, and they didn't push us out when we finished and visited for a pretty long while as the restaurant lunch rush cleared out.

Fantastic experience!

By BoyMomTX |

Good service and great food! The staff was courteous but not too overwhelming. There was no rush to finish the meal, and they did provide suggestions for kids' meals.

This place is almost enough to make me wish I lived in San Antonio

By Peter P |

We've been popping in and out of town recently and I've been wanting some good Mediterranean food and TripAdvisor definitely steered us in the right direction. With window signs in English and Arabic the idea that this is a Mediterranean restaurant is hard to miss. The interior is a little spartan but the tables are ample and the booths are big enough for 8 teens and good sized retirees like myself. We enjoyed the two entrees and two dinners we tried. The quality of the product was superb. The seasoning was right on. The portions were more than adequate. The prices were modest for a large city. The service was prompt without being rushed and attentive without being intrusive. This is a simple place. No pretense but wonderful food. The ethnic videos -- contemporary music videos from the region -- were a <little> bit loud but they didn't interfere with conversation or our enjoyment of our meal. This was a very good experience and if we are back in town again I'm sure we'll be back. Wonderful. Wonderful.

Meh...

I've heard a lot about this place so instead of getting a gyro at the other place on Wurzbach where I usually go, I stopped in here in the mid-afternoon. Maybe my expectations were set too high by all the great reviews? But I was disappointed. The free naan (like that other place on Wurzbach) was good, and the cheese in the oil was a nice touch. I ordered a lamb gyro and while the size of it was impressive, the flavor was not. The service was definitely lacking! I ordered iced tea and was given hot tea in a tumbler with no ice-- I had to ask passing staff members twice for ice (only one remembered) and I was never offered a refill on my tea after that. I had no silverware nor napkins, and finally had to get up and find some on another table, since my waiter never returned after delivering the gyro. Another employee brought my check, and I was NOT impressed to be charged an 18% "automatic gratuity" for the poor service I received. I'll go to the other place across Wurzbach the next time, because Jerusalem Grill failed to impress.

Great change from the norm

While this place is nothing fancy the food is very well prepared. We tried the Family Style meal that what seemed like a trip to the Middle East via food. From the homemade Humus to the nicely grilled kabob was a very pleasant experience.

Delish!

So. Fricken. Good. Great service and the best baba ganoush I’ve had. Fantastic lamb gyro and Tabouleh was excellent too!

Great food, but overpriced

By ErinRu |

We had a Groupon which was going to expire. I usually try to use them before the last week in order to avoid the last day rush, but we had been out of town. I knew it was possible that the restaurant would be overwhelmed, and it really was. Our family of 6 was seated immediately, but more and more people kept arriving, and our dinner took a very long time. That being said, the food was quite good. We ordered kebobs and a number of sides. I would have liked more flatbread, but once our food arrived, there was no catching our waiter. It took a really long time to get the bill, and our waiter did apologize for the poor service. I have not marked down for the service, since it was my fault for going the last day of the Groupon, but I felt that the food was overpriced. I might go again with just my husband, but never with the family.

Fresh, good and fast

By rosalindac857 |

Our meals were amazing. We had baba's ghanoush, a gyro and chicken and beef kabob plate. Everything was fresh and filled with flavor. Our waiter was prompt and attentive. Prices are great for the amount of food served. We will be returning.

Always Consistent Food

By LRD |

Have eaten here several times over the last year. The food is consistently good. The service is most often spot on. Our most recent visit saw the service a little off. However, I will chalk it up to inexperience. The management noticed the issue and sent free dessert to the table. I have and will continue to recommend this restaurant. It is one of my favorites in San Antonio.

Quality is going down and no consistency

By Kate mat |

I am so disappointed with their quality of food . I was a big fan of Mediterranean food but , based on my last few dining’s I would say their consistency of taste is gone . I agree that they are expanding their locations but please maintain the consistency. . Very disappointed with location 1 and 2.Especially on weekdays, it may be good on weekends. Haven’t tried location 3 yet . I may not go either 🙄😟.Taste is really going down and beef and chicken are really really dry . I got stomach upset whenever I ate t this , this started happening recently. They are definitely losing their customers. Thanks

Jerusalem Grill

. Recently met up with my friend from out of town but born and grew up in this neighborhood prior to moving out of SF. She told me she passed by many times before, but never tried this place. So perfect, we can both try it now. The first impression of the restaurant from outside is just very average. This part of the Mission can be a challenge sometimes for those uninitiated. Im here to let you know this is a hidden gem. Even though thousands have written reviews on this place, there are still many that don't know. Once we met inside the restaurant, we had a choice of eating in the front or go toward the back where they have a lovely patio area. Go to the patio area! We were the only customers there at the time they opened for lunch, so we had the pick of all tables. We got a plate of pickled radish and olives. We ordered the Jerusalem salad, the Hummus with beef/lamb shawarma, pita bread, and I got a cup of tea that has mint in it. Everything was delicious! The only dish we didn't care for is the Jerusalem salad and that's because we were set on some type of leafy salads, so wasn't expecting this. This meal gave us fuel but not overwhelm us as we were going to be walking and shopping in the neighborhood soon and didn't want to be stuffed. Service was very good. Very clean inside and the ambiance inside the restaurant, especially in the patio area is great! Do come by and support this restaurant and this neighborhood!

For something a little different

By ljmzta |

After reading other reviews and not wanting fast food, I chose Jerusalem Grill. It was hard to find back off the road and I drove right by it the first time not seeing the sign. I ordered the vegetarian dinner seeing it had good reviews. The service was fast and friendly, I ordered takeout. When I returned to my hotel, much of the food was mixed up. The bottom of the container was greasy so I left it in the plastic bag. One thin napkin came with this oily meal which I didn't feel was enough but I was glad to get one and plastic wear. The food was ok, I have had much better hommos, I compare all to Yia Yia Mary's, sorry. It came with lettuce but I was hoping for more of a greek salad to be in there. The falafel is good, had a good spice to it. I wouldn't mind returning to try the gyro or the shwarma.

Nice restaurant close to Ingram mall

By Joe S |

We were looking for a Mediterranean style restaurant while shopping at Ingram mall and this place showed in my google search. My family of 4 went for dinner and had a great meal. The server was very polite. Would go again in a future visit to San Antonio.

Unbeatable dinner

By Mark M |

My wife and I have eaten hear many times. The food, from the lentil soup to the Gyros to the kabobs to the baklava and grape leaves have always been excellent. In the past we've always thought the service was outstanding, but tonight we met Dunya. This young lady is probably one of the friendliest and most attentive waitresses I've ever met. That's no easy statement to make either, we eat out all the time. If you're looking for excellent food and exceptional service then this is the place for you.

Amazing food

By Txaggievet |

We ordered the dinner for 4... (for 5 of us) Cam with 8 appetizers, Shawarma and Kabobs. Was amazing, everything tasted great, it was a lot of fun. Would eat here again if in San Antonio

Great little place for fresh and affordable mediteranian eats

By Mad Dog |

Not a ton of ambiance, but the food was excellent. They start you off with a huge chunk of freshly mad naan and dipping sauce...almost a meal in itself...addicting. We had the Gyro and a fried eggplant appetizer. Fresh, tender, tasty and very inexpensive. Also got dessert fresh off the baking pan...Yumm

Tasty

By Cynthia J |

Greeted at the front door by a cheerful staff to very loud music. We could not hear each other talk so we asked to have it turned down and they did. I love the music choice...just too loud. The Restaurant was an old IHOP and shows it's age but the new decor suits it's cuisine. Could stand a good power wash at the front door and the outdoor benches. Concrete is dirty as well as their parking lot. Trash flying around and in their shrubs. This food cuisine is one of my favorites and one I've eaten many times in Israel. We took our seats and a beautiful plate of flat bread was placed in front of us with a yummy dipping sauce that we soaked every last drop up. We ordered the meal for two with the grilled chicken and lamb and veggies. Sides were hummus, rice, mixed cucumber and tomatoes with bell peppers, eggplant and chopped parsley. The meat was a bit dry but tasty. The hummus is the best I've eaten any where including Israel. The rest of the sides were average with no comment on the eggplant dish because I did not try it. Good food at a fair price but there is lots of competition in town. I hope they can make it and with a bit of clean up of their environment, this could be your go to place for your craving for this type of cuisine.

Great food!

By Angel2tuff4u |

Everything is made to order and tastes so good. The food was fresh and the portion sizes were great. You will definitely have leftovers.

Great Food, Decent Atmosphere and Reasonable Price

By Ashar G |

Great middle eastern food option when visiting San Antonio. Good Gyros, Platters, Hummus, Baklawa and friendly and fast service. The only thing was the French Fries served were mediocre but we did not go there for the fries...

Efficient, well run restaurant

By MuffetB |

We've eaten dinner here several times. The service is excellent, and wait staff is friendly. They are always looking for what else they can do for their customers, and you can tell they genuinely appreciate your business. We started with dolmas (grape leaves) which are tasty and you get more here for about $5 than you do elsewhere for more. We've had the gyro platter and also the chicken as well as beef schwarma. The schwarma plate is served with some excellent tasting hummus + Jerusalem salad and great rice. We left filled and very satisfied. They do not serve liquor but you can bring your own and they will cork and provide wine glasses.

Great Hummus!

By Astrochicken |

Some of the best hummus I have ever had. Lots of choices...all was good! The location is OK, but don't expect world class decor. We ordered the family meal which was more than we could eat, but gave us the ability to try a number of different dishes in one setting. We will definately be back!

Outstanding Food

By TrishB396 |

Went with friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed the spread! Our server recommended the Family Dinner which was 12 appetizers and a big plate of mixed kebabs and rice. We lived in the Middle East for 8 years so we know authentic -- this is the real deal. I highly recommend you try this place. They do not serve alcohol but they will allow you to bring your own.

Great taste - poor value

By elnina999 |

Located in a partially abandoned shopping strip this place is huge. It includes a hookah lounge with outside seating, banquet hall for big events, and a still pretty big dining area. I went there on December 8th ( Saturday) at 7:40 PM. Only two tables were occupied, event hall was empty, 4 guys were sitting outside smoking shisha. I ordered their chef specialty and hot tea with mint. The owner walked me through all the dishes with detailed explanation. The plate arrived. In the middle was a huge serving of white steamed rice, On the top was a small serving ( maybe 3 soup spoons) of green beans and lamb meat in a tomato based sauce ( I didn't found this item on a menu, but you can see it on one of my pictures - in an oval chafing dish - third from the left, next to the rice). Around the plate were small, soup-spoon size appetizers: hommos, baba ghannoug, tabouleh salad, stuffed grape leaves, piece of fried cauliflower and cucumber-dill yoghurt. First of all - the hommos, baba ghannoug and tabouleh is to die for. Too bad it was served with a cold, chewy pita bread. The rest of the appetizers were not worth mentioning. The main dish was very tasty, but I found only one, tiny ( maybe inch by inch ) piece of lamb meat - and that included the bone! I called the owner and showed him the microscopic size of meat, surrounded by few green beans and couple of soup spoon of gravy, and asked if that's the regular serving. He apologized and brought me an additional portion on a small saucer. This portion included 3 more small pieces of lamb meat with bone in a little gravy. I think ALL meat together would fit in a single soup spoon. So, this meat dish, that cost $9 is a joke. One cannot stuff himself with the sample appetizers and rice alone. Feeling still pretty hungry I ordered a serving of the very tasty baba ghannoug that came, again with a cold and chewy pita bread. After I finished eating, I went to the front of the store to take a look at the wast display of desserts. Again, each was explained in details by the owner. Too bad that he pointed each with his finger, actually touching the uncovered tops. Besides him touching the pastries, I found the uncovered display unsanitary, sitting on a two tables, in the middle of a room, where patrons and servers were passing by all day long. Since I didn't know where his fingers had been before, I passed on the desserts. The whole dinner was about $18 incl. tax . It left me feeling unsatisfied, and although the service was very attentive, the bean/lamb dish and the baba ghannough really delicious, I am not planning to return there anytime soon.

Expensive with small portions

We did not enjoy the food here. Food was expensive and the quantity was small. Very surprising! The wait staff and cook were nice and friendly.

Good Middle Eastern Food

By ShawnVandy |

We had not been here and decided to give it a shot. I ordered the large Greek Salad with lamb. It was VERY large and very tasty. The lamb was prepared well and had a good flavor and the special house dressing had a good flavor. All of the vegetables were fresh. My son ordered the beef and chicken shawarma with a Jerusalem salad and hummus and rice. It was also very flavorful and also had a large quantity. My wife ordered a beef and chicken kabob with grilled vegetables and a Jerusalem salad - again very tasty and a plate full of food. The pita bread was okay - not bad but nothing to write home about. The staff was appropriately attentive and the atmosphere has a middle eastern vibe with a Texas flair. All in all - a good dinner and I would return for another meal!!

Friendly staff and good fresh food good portions

By fallingstarvideo |

When you enter you see the Pilars maybe even Greek influences on the photos. They gave us a large pita style bread to dip in the olive oil with sesame seeds and something green it was good but don’t recall what it was. I has the fish with rice and a bunch of other things on the plate. While the rest of the fam had macaroni and cheese. I’m sure it isn’t a culture dish but the kids love it. The other was the gyros.

Great Mediterranean Food

Fast, friendly, affordable and delicious!

By Mike A |

Didn't feel like waiting an hour and a half for steak, at a restaurant down the road. Remembered reading a good review on J-Grill, so I took the wife there. We were seated and eating in less than 5 minutes. Our waiter suggested, being our first time, to get the mixed dinner for two. It was amazing, and refreshing. The food was light and flavorful, and very filling. It was a perfect "escape" from the normal steak and seafood dinners. They have a very large space, with a hookah bar and restaurant. They even have an outdoor area to relax in. This dining experience brought me back to the hospitality I experienced while in the Middle East. It's not your typical American dinner (get in, eat, get out). This place is meant to be enjoyed. You're supposed to be there for a few hours, enjoying the food, the atmosphere and your good company. The only thing I would remind everyone about is to bring your own wine or beer. Also, enter with an open mind, and understand that the restaurant is run like your relatives own it. You're all family the minute you walk in and you are welcomed with open arms. Very relaxing, refreshing, and above all else, delicious!

WOW!

By Ruby |

My husband and I went for lunch today at Jerusalem Grill and let me just say WOW! From the food, to the amazing service to the atmosphere we can't say enough good things about it! I ordered the lamb gyro with fries and my husband had the falafel plate with Jerusalem salad, eggplant and pita bread. All of it tasted so delicious! Isaac was very accommodating and made sure we were well taken care of. I've already told my mom and some friends they have to go try it out! Highly Recommend!

Good food, interesting setting

By wordphoto |

Middle Eastern or Greek food is a standard choice away from home for my vegan wife and non-vegan self. There is something for both of us. We enjoyed our visit to the Jerusalem Grill as the food was excellent. The restaurant is in a strip center in a dreary spot but we have marked it for a return visit.

I felt like I was back in the Med!

By SazzyMCH |

So pleased we tried this place. Staff were so friendly and couldn't have done more for us. We had the mixed for 2 plus some falafel and it was all so good - there were 3 of us (1 child) and the mixed for 2 would've been enough. Hummus and Baba Ganoush were wonderful. We will be back. Reminded me of restaurants we went to when I was a kid living in Cyprus.

Not authentic.

By llaugh8424 |

We ate with a group of ten - people who had lived in Turkey and another who had lived in Jordan. The food was not authentic. It was just okay. The baklava was not good. The hummus was good. The service was good.

Great lunch spot

By KenandMaxine B |

The salads were fresh and in keeping with authentic flavor. The waiter was friendly and responsive. The Turkish coffee was enjoyed. Nice casual atmosphere, with ethnic music. It was a good deal for the cost. Will return when we come back to San Antonio.
