Nice place

By Nab S |

Hi we had been to Jims and it is a nice place. The service was polite and the menue contains a lot of varieties. I want for the club sandwich, which is good.

Comfort food in a yesteryear setting

By LALinTX |

Exactly what you remember and expect. Service always interesting, low profile and quiet inside, give it another star if there was lightly more menu innovation but you won't be disappointed in what they do offer if you miss mom/grandma's cooking.

Tasty Food Fast

By Steve D |

I went to Jim's for an early lunch on a Sunday and it's was crowded. Luckily, there was no wait seating at the counter so that's where I sat. This is an old school diner that's fun to eat at. I ordered the Chicken-N-Biscuits Breakfast with sweet tea. The chicken tenders were moist and delicious. The biscuits upon which they rested were soft and flaky. The cream gravy that covered them was just about perfect. The scrambled eggs were, well, scrambled eggs. The country potatoes were cooked just right. The sweet tea was just about perfect as well. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are reasonable. One important disturbing note however- one of the cooks in the kitchen was handling customers food in the window with bare hands, i.e. placing pancakes on a plate, lifting slices of ham up to see what is under, and placing bacon on plates. I'm pretty sure she should've been wearing food service gloves. I don't want anyone handling my food bare handed at a restaurant.

A reliable breakfast spot in SW Austin

By barretta |

Jim's is a chain, and pretty much anything on their long menu is recognizable as nearly cloned from restaurant to restaurant, and that is not a criticism. It is a statement of consistency and reliability. We eat brekkie there often.

Dinner before concert

By Chris C |

The food and service were typical of Jim's. It was inexpensive. The food was tasty. An enjoyable meal.

Food is better than you expect from a coffee shop.

Recent remodel ends our relationship

By Aggie1994 |

Last year at this time I wrote a glowing review of an old standby. But sadly, the glow has dimmed. The food quality and service have not changed much, but the ambience has. TVs everywhere. And with 2 young kids we will no longer give Jim's our business. Some may like to be serenaded by 5 TVs while they eat, but not us. We like to visit with each other and not have our kids distracted by worthless images. It's too bad management thought that besides new paint and decor, that TVs on every wall was what a their restaurant needed to stay hip.

Great Breakfast

By Darin J |

My son was looking for pancakes and this was the closest for breakfast. We were not disappointed. He had his pancakes and i had the migas. It was good all around. Friendly staff and good food. Can't ask for more

Ok

By Daniel V |

We ate breakfast on Sunday morning after church. They had a 20 minutes plus waiting time. I ordered two tacos, and my wife orders eggs, sausage, and grits. The tacos small and cold and so were the eggs, the sausage was over cooked and the grits were cold. It might have been due to the large crowd. This is the first time we had been in years and you can bet that we will not be back..

Late night food

By juvlemm |

The restaurant is open 24 hours. The food is amazing, be it breakfast or other meal. Rates are reasonable.

AN OLDER DENNYS

By micyer |

This place has been around a while, and unlike Dennys, who has corporate guidelines, which specify a face lift once in a while, Jims has not changed appearances for many years. The food, however is good, and they do change the Menu from time to time. Service is good as well. Jims has the potential, to be one of those non chain, secret hideaways, that you go to when you don't want standard diner food, but they fall short in that. Dependable, but nothing extraordinary.

Good food....always.

By MB78737 |

Like many people, our weekend routine includes breakfast at Jim's. Sometimes there is a wait, but they move people through. Food is consistent and good.

Always good.

By Dan C |

My family and I head to Jim’s at least once every couple of weeks. My son and I enjoy eating at the old style diner counter top. The eggs are always cooked perfect and they have the best sausage gravy biscuits around. Breakfast, lunch or dinner this place is always great.

Pleasant, friendly environment

By Bernie_Texas |

Nice diner, better than most Denny's we've been too. Open all night, wide variety of items on menu. Tortilla soup was surprisingly good. Apple pie not so good.

Great diner!

By Barbie L |

The breakfast was really good, reasonably priced with great service. Lauren was our server. We had the typical eggs, hashbrown breakfast. A very comfortable diner with a little bit of everything to choose from on the menu. I will definitely visit again.

Old Austin Favorite!

Good diner with good food & Austin character

By LK R |

Good restaurant-diner, very reasonable prices, great for breakfast; lots of locals eat at the several Jim's located around Austin, for good reason!

A Great Place for Breakfast Tacos!

By Gary B |

We've been regulars at Jim's for about 10 years now, and I don't know why I've never done a review. Here goes. Jim's has a regular staff, many of whom have worked there since before I started coming. These people know how to run a restaurant! Seeing the same faces each time you come in here really adds to the experience. You can expect the place to be busy on weekend mornings, but don't fret, the crowd moves quickly through and the food is worth the wait. I recommend the breakfast tacos. You get your choice of fillings and they're huge! You'll only need one, and hashbrowns are good as a side to be shared. Prices are very reasonable. You'll leave satisfied. So if you're cruising down Hwy 71 through Austin, look for Jim's. It's near the "Y" at Oak Hill, right where Hwy 71 and 290 split on the west side of town. Don't miss it.

Great diner food

By HappyTexsn |

A long time diner restaurant in Austin. Good comfort food and an excellent all day breakfast menu. Very reasonably priced. Consistently good service and good food. A good late night drop in spot after a night of too much....whatever.

Way Better Than Last Time!

By Bryan B |

I guess my initial review was not published for this restaurant. We go there quite often and quite often the food was served rather tepid but it was still very good. The other thing that really bothered me was that the mens room had so much water on the floor that I honestly felt I needed waiders to use the facility. God forbid if your shoe laces were hanging down! We stopped in on Monday for an early supper. Much to my surprise, the Men's Room had been cleaned up. It even had paper towels in it. The whole restaurant seemed to be brighter. It was great! I ordered the chicken fried steak for two reasons. First, I needed a chicken fried steak fix after being on the east coast for about a month. Secondly, I could eat chickenfried steak every single day. Let me tell you, it was excellent. It was hot, the gravy was hot, the mashed potatoes were hot and the veggies were hot. Not only was everything finally served hot, but it was very flavorful. Jim's in Oak Hill (Texas) is easy to access and the parking there is never a problem. They are open twenty-four hours a day. Wait staff is not only very friendly, but some of them have been there for years. That, my traveling and dining friends, is a favorable testiment to any business.

sons favorite place

By lori d |

My son loves this place. Comfort food great service lots of old timers. Great value and quick service.

I have been eating at jims for years this place has the best eggs and bacon

By G2661244 |

They are country cooking for sure. Grits are the best i have had. I will keep eating at this location for years.

Great family restaurant, breakfast

By LMT_12 |

Lets be honest, not fancy. Lots of older folks and families when we walked in. But, glad we stayed! Great food and Jinger was a great waitress! i had chicken and waffles, hubby had breakfast tacos with chirizo. Both were excellent. We split a homemade biscuit for dessert. Everything was home made, the chicken was a boneless chicken breast flattened, and chicken fried. Man, it was awesome. Honestly, food came out super fast, it was served hot, and great prices.

Saturday lunch during lunch rush.

By Terry C |

We had lunch on a Saturday during their very busy lunch rush. The wait was minimal, the food was very good, the service was prompt and efficient and the prices were decent.

Great breakfast!

By Bobby31225 |

My friend spotted this place as were were driving so we stopped for breakfast. Good choice!! Nice friendly staff and a great breakfast!! I had the 3 egg breakfast with hash browns, sausage and toast. He had biscuits and gravy with sausage.Total was only $16.00 with the tax. What a find!! Would recommend going here if you were in the area.

Food & service consistently good

By jafenn |

Breakfast? Burger? Chicken Fried steak? Anytime of the day or night! We usually go on Sat or Sun morning and yes we usually have to wait for a table but no more than 15-20 minutes tops. Food and service always good. Many of the staff have been at this location for years and always serve with a smile! Nothing bad to say about this place.

Consistently very good food and service

By llennef |

We eat here often (breakfast and lunch) and have for at least 10 years. So I can certainly vouch for the consistently good food and service. Many of the wait staff have been here for years and that is probably true of the kitchen as well. Although you might have to wait for a table on the weekends, it usually moves quickly (15-20 minutes is the longest we've had to wait). Chicken fried steak or chicken is about as good as you are going to get here in Austin and you can also have it with eggs for breakfast. There are also many healthier options on the menu too. Casual and friendly atmosphere. Recently remodeled although it really didn't need it.

Wow what a mess.

By toadandbear |

Stopped in late the night of Sept. 27. The first impression walking in was not favorable. We took a table for the 5 of us. We had a server in training according to her Name tag. She was a tad slow getting the whole order straight. Not all her fault as I brought in 3 people over age 70 and they can be real trying. The chicken fried steak came out as the ground sirloin with gravy. No problem as my dad is 92 and did not know the diff'. Two other plates had hash browns which were warm with no brown on them at all. A hot fudge sunday was done properly. So the cook was not competent on the food. As we were leaving there ere just dirty people checking out. So, never again here. I had to check the online map to be sure other reviewers were talking about the same place.

Good Breakfast

By Paul G |

Cowboy breakfast is good, plenty of it, served quick and hot. Pancakes are huge and very tasty. Coffee is hot. Overall a good place to 'fill up'. Good family atmosphere, fair prices, good food.

Godd for anytime

By Joel M |

It is a chain. But this location is reliable and trustworthy. Good for coffee and quick bite or breakfast, lunch and dinner. Booths, tables or sit at the counter. The staff is friendly and attentive. Breakfast is my favorite here.

It's cafe food

By The_1st_Lady |

Not great, not good, just ok. I would guess most come here based on price. I wouldn't return as better quality food available nearby.

Lots of Choices

By bb552015 |

First time there. It was much nicer than I expected, like a diner, with a lot of choices on the menu, and a Seniors menu, too. Very nice waitresses.

Great Place For Family Weekend Breakfast

By A_TX_Traveler2013 |

When my parents visit this is the place to go for breakfast, for sure - although we do go there often on our own. The atmosphere is good. The food is good. There service is good (mostly, depending on your waiter).

Great for family

By Thomas T |

This was my first time and this old fashioned diner is good food in an average setting. However, the latter supports the restaurant style and prices are reasonable. Looking for something really special? This may not be it. Beyond that, however, it's a solid choice especially for families.

Visiting from Washington State

By Jerry C |

Visiting from Washington State and the staff at the Hampton Inn recommended Jim’s. Great choice. Wife had Chicken fried steak and I had Texas omelette. Both were great. Service was efficient and very friendly. Excellent choice.

Jim’s is the perfect diner.

By mr_larry_smith |

Jims menu is amazing for the variety. The parking and building are welcoming. The service is usually excellent. Of course the food is excellent.

Nice Atmosphere & Good Food

By MinimalTravels |

Our family went to Jim's to celebrate pancake day and Mardi Gras. Being able to order anything on the menu in the evening is a nice plus when you're trying to do something just a little different or special. The food service was quick. We experienced a slight inaccuracy on our order, but our server realized it before the plate even hit the table; she corrected it without us having to say anything. We noticed one other inaccuracy, but we were provided with a piece of Texas Toast on one of our plates without additional charge. The menu indicated the plate comes with that item, but the server indicated it did not; the problem was resolved and we weren't charged extra for what should have been included, so that's just a minor slip on knowing the menu fully. The service at this Jim's location has always been good. They seem to genuinely care about their customers and are prompt at resolving any issues. The food quality is good for a diner atmosphere. One extra item to note is that payments are made at the front on your way out. You could find yourself sitting for a while expecting them to come back by to pickup your payment and close it out for you.

Jim’s diners offers good old fashioned meals.

Jim’s is an old fashioned diner like I grew up with and love. The location is accessible, menu huge, service good and the food simple & good.

Always my choice for a weekend Breakfast or Brunch!!

By Sandy C |

I'm a native Austinite and with the many choices of places to eat here, this is my go-to favorite!! The wait on Sunday's is a bit longer, but you're guaranteed to have a good meal every time!! My husband always orders the "Panhandlers" and shares the pancakes with me!!

Amazing breakfast to start your day!

By jeanne1232015 |

Ate breakfast at Jim's this AM. First of all, re waitress was so friendly with a smile on her face! The coffee was delicious!! The vegetable/ham & cheese omelet hit the spot! My husband enjoyed his breakfast as well. The biscuits are high and fluffy! Can't beat this place for a wonderful "appetite pleasing meal"!!! We have eaten here several times and it's always the best!!

Oh Yeah!

By Doc D |

If you like a Western omelet, Jim's serves up one of the BEST. In fact, there's hardly anything on the breakfast menu that you wouldn't like. I went here for the first time as a student at the University of Texas, and I make it a point to have at least one breakfast here every time I find myself back in Austin. Jim's might remind you of a Denny's or an IHOP or something like that, but the food's way, way, W A Y better. Give 'er a try. You won't regret it...

AWSOME!

By Pitbull19 |

We went here for breakfast several times and lunch once we had a awesome waitress her name was ginger she was amazing made you feel welcome and almost like family if I had a 100$ to spare i would have gave her a 100$ tip the food was good too i would recommend the texas omelet or the fruit bowl and some oatmeal and then for lunch try the chief salad its one of the best salads I've ever had.

Old fashion dinner - that's a good thing

By Lawrence U |

Jim's is an old fashioned dinner. You will sit in a booth a waitress will call you sweetie, or sugar, they will have the special of the day and the food will be good home style cooking. You won't find anything fancy, but they will have the standards. Their breakfast tacos are an excellent bargain. The daily special is a good deal, but on some days they will run out before dinners over. Once or twice there has been and issue but the wait staff have always fixed quickly. If you are looking for good food, a nice place and friendly wait staff Jim's is the place.

Good Food

By Don C |

This was our first time at a Jim's restaurant. We stopped for a quick bite to eat before going on to the airport. My wife had a Chicken Club Salad. She said it was very, very good. I had Jim's Original Burger with fries. I have to say it was right up there with the best I've had. Good food, Good service. Reasonable prices. What more do you need?

what a gem!

By Leonard S |

Good ol' diner standby

By Aggie1994 |

Good service, ample portions, and the usual, but good, diner fare. Occasional specials and kids-eat-free nights add to the quality of the restaurant. Breakfast anytime! It's hard to beat for comfort food.

Great Breakfast in a Superb Location

By Sandra P |

Huge menu to accommodate everyone, kids and seniors also. Big breakfast which won't cost a fortune. Good food! It's located at the intersection of 71 and 290. Lots of traffic in the area due to no overpass. Easy to get to with the street lights and also to exit.

good local choice vs dennys

Haven’t been here in a loooooonnnnggg time!

By Nicole_Gus_2010 |

But sure glad we did! Stopped in around 11:00 on a Sunday, long wait because they were super busy. Once we got seated though, we were welcomed, brought drinks, and food ordered within 10 min. Food came quickly and it was delicious! I had the Tex Mex Eggs Benedict & hubby had the Pork Chops breakfast. Both were so good, and staff was very nice. The table bussers were so fast, they had a table cleaned within 5 min after someone left (hence the quick table turnover.) We’ll be back definitely!

Breakfast in the Y

By Oogiecatt |

Have been there a few times for other meals and I recommend breakfast as the best meal they offer. The staff is usually friendly and efficient. The interior is a large size old time diner that looks it's age but is usually clean.

Everyone at Jim's Becomes a Friend

By lettucecook |

I have been eating here at least once a week for 14 years and 3 times when my dad was alive and living with me...He knew everyone...Best Diner Food and Waitresses I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Excellent

By Marian B |

We go to Jim's almost every week. The food is consistently good and the weekend morning service is great. Sometimes there is a crowd waiting. Don't let that put you off. It moves pretty fast. Very affordable.
