Not as good as other locations

By GR260 |

Jim's usually makes a great cheesesteak. This airport location, however, really under-seasons the meat, so it was surprisingly bland. It's a shame, because the steak was good quality, as was the provolone cheese and the roll. The onions didn't even do anything to punch up the flavor. And, like most airport restaurants, you definitely pay for the location.

Mashed Meat.

This was my first time returning since they closed after a fire. Everything is new. Nice seating right on the ground floor, a big clean bathroom, pretty mirrored entrance. But I was there for the food. The cheesesteaks have changed, The cooks creating the sandwiches are so intent on chopping up the steak slices that they are making chopped meat, pulverizing the steaks so that they resemble sloppy joes. Mashed meat. No chew whatsoever. The taste is ok, but the texture is not so good. Easily fixed, you know. So, I hope the owner is reading this and does some tweaking to the training of the very diligent cooks. Meanwhile, the next time Im in Philly, I'll try Pat's.

Best Philly we had here by far!

We went to the two originals in town, but out concierge suggested this place and we are glad we tried it. About a ten minute wait, but it was worth it. Hands down the best we had and we tried several.

Worth a try

We enjoyed the famous Philly cheesesteak sandwiches from Jim’s on South St. when we visited Philadelphia, PA, in summer 2017. Since then we’ve passed through Philadelphia Airport a couple of times but it was only on this layover visit (Christmas Eve 2023) that we had time for food while en route to Orlando, FL. When we saw the sign for Jim’s South St. next to our departure gate we just knew we would have to try it. We sensibly ordered a sandwich to share (there’s always a first time). We discovered that the fixings carried an additional charge but luckily had the sense to ask for them as the sandwich would have been a bit boring otherwise. We tried: 🥖 Cheese steak sandwich with American cheese $15.49 🫑 Peppers +$1.09 🍄 Mushrooms $+1.09 🍺 Blue Moon x 2 bottles $17.00 🍟 Plain fries $4.99 😢 Tax $3.51 😳 Tip $5.95 💰 TOTAL = $ 49.12 Service was quick and friendly and the price represented typical airport food prices. We added the tip on when we paid with Apple Pay. Jim’s had a good selection of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. We chose our favourite Blue Moon Belgian White beer, as a ‘welcome to the USA drink’. The server had to lend us a bottle opener to take the caps off. When we re-visited our photographs from the 2017 visit to Jim’s, the sandwich we had today had better presentation but the food, sadly, was bland and could have done with some seasoning. The fries were boring and had no flavor. The portion size was reasonable and in light of the disappointing flavors, we were very glad we had shared. Teh food was freshly prepared and cooked in front of us and was served steaming hot. There were other cheesesteak outlets in the airport, so if you’re passing through Philly Airport and want to try one of the famous sandwiches, you might wish to consider trying those.

Eat here before your flight!

I stopped here for a breakfast sandwich before my flight. The sandwich was huge, way too much to eat. It was an excellent sandwich and a reasonable price for the size.

A Total RIP Off

Person at the register ran an extra charge on my credit card...they will rip you off!!! Now I had to cancel my card and dispute the charges after paying $25 for a sandwich...what a terrible way to start my vacay!!! Stay away!!!

Disappointed

I've had better cheesesteaks elsewhere. First of all there wasn't enough cheese. It wasn't mixed in like I've had with others. The sandwich was ruined by all of the juice from the onions and Luke warm. I wasted 15.00 on the sandwich and 18.00 on the Lyft. Oh and they only accept cash.

Yummy!

Tummy Cheesesteaks

Great place to stop by for cheesesteaks on South Street. Really nice that there is room to sit upstairs, as I’m not an expert in eating these things without making a mess. The meat, the Whiz were both great but my favorite was the way they prepped their onions. So good. Beer available for sale on site too

NO. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

A family from Bombay or Tandoori buys the license to run a Jim's South St, and what could possibly go wrong? Frying up the hot peppers on the grill with the meat? Slapping dripping wet meat on a soggy, day-old roll? Stating one price on the price board (Pizza steak, cheese and sauce) and then up-charging for the cheese and sauce? Scheister owner keeps babbling, "I make it for you," and 'I take two dollar off...." Playing games with charging customers, the dripping wet sandwich got slapped right back on the counter for his family to eat.
