Just ok

By BrussoDallas |

We decided to try this after we saw they won 'best breakfast in lake highlands' in the Advocate. All 4 people in our party got breakfast & no one was very impressed. All of our eggs were over cooked & everything else was just ok. I'd probably give them one more shot but first impression it wasn't very good.

Meh............

Food was nothing to write home about. I had Reuben Sandwich. Asked for x-tra crunchy fries. Corned beef was over-cooked & tough. Fries came out regular. Won't go again......but ya never know til ya try, right?

That neighborhood feel and great food!

By CYNTHIA A |

Just finishing my lunch at JJs Café. Tortilla soup with a side of avocado was awesome! I love the neighborhood feel great staff wonderful service and clean. I make it a habit to eat here regularly because I love the food and the people. I’m thinking this tortilla soup would be great for takeout for a friend this winter when they get a cold I feel a bit down. It certainly cheered me up today! Here is my before and after! I’ll see you at JJ’s!

Breakfast

We were on our way to Longview and picked this. Very friendly staff, and very clean. They offered a very nice buffet but we opted to order off the menu. I ordered chicken and waffles and was not disappointed. We always like to support family local business as much as possible.

Great little diner

By Charles Z |

Excellent food. Tastes almost as good as mom makes 😁 Excellent quality, fast service, exactly as ordered. Coffee you can drink without tons of sugar. A little oon the pricy side, but they don't skimp on the portions. One meal can feed 2 people. $15.93 four French toast (6 halves), bacon, eggs hash browns with coffee. I will definitely come here again. Only next timbre, I will either come with someone else to share with, or bring an extra stomach.

Great food - excellent crispy French toast and the service is right on. Always easy to get in and out. Don't bother with IHOP - go to JJ's!

Nice Place with Good Food

By TomGill1 |

My wife and I were in the Dallas area and decided to give this place a shot for lunch. I had read the reviews, and though some were not all that complimentary, we decided to try it regardless. We were pleasantly surprised as to how good the food actually was. My wife opted for the lunch buffet and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros off the menu. What we found was everything appeared to be made from scratch. My wife, who is not normally a buffet fan, looked over the buffet and said it looked really good. The buffet had several meat choices, a handful of side dishes, as well as bread and dessert items. A very good bargain for all you can eat at $7.85. As for myself, I love Huevos Rancheros, but I find that most places attempt to reinvent the recipe by either adding things or taking short cuts. I can honestly say their Huevos Rancheros were prepared and tasted like they should, Old School style. No shortcuts here. Overall, the food was good and decently priced, the staff was attentive and polite, the restaurant was clean, and they had hot water in the bathroom to wash your hands. What more do you need from a restaurant?

Comfy

By Karen B |

The service is wonderful! The prices are reasonable. The food was exceptional! They close mid afternoon. They have a buffet with posted times, but those are mere suggestions. Even if it is too late for the buffet, ask a server, it may still be available. Plus on a Saturday late morning, there wasn't a wait. Forget the chains, try JJ's. I am sure you will be glad you did. The pancakes were PERFECT!

The best breakfast in Dallas. The Crispy French toast is amazing with a couple of eggs and bacon. Service is very good and personal.

LATE BREAKFAST

By Chet C |

Decided to stop for a late breakfast. They have a sign for all day breakfast so I thought I would check it out. It was not to busy when I walked in and was seated right away with a menu. It was15 minutes before the hostess stopped by my table to take my order. I don't know where all the servers where, but they didn't take care of me. I ordered the feta omelet and O'Brian potatoes. My order finally arrived and looked pretty good, but the potatoes where not even warm. The omelet was good ,but a little dry. After finishing my meal I waited quite a long time for "someone" to bring my bill. No one showed up so I just went up to the cashier to pay for my meal. The service was not good at all for not even being busy. I tried it, but I wont be back.

Great Find

We try to locate a new place to eat at least once a week. Found JJ's online. They offer a brunch until 1:30 for $1199. Plenty of items to choose from including desserts, salads and mimosas. Full menu if you decide to order that way. Friendly staff, fast service, clean restaurant. I would definitely recommend and we will be back. Family-friendly!

Below Average

By Bob H |

The overpriced buffet here is not kept fresh. No bacon on Saturdays and Sundays you’re limited to two pieces. Used to have mimosas on Sundays all you wanted now they limit you. The owner here is a jerk and only interested in his profits not in customer service. If you order from the menu it’s hit or miss. Depends on the mood of the cook.I recommend you look for another place to eat and skip this one!

best breakfast tacos hand down! And we eat them everywhere we go!

By lazy susan |

We eat there almost every Sunday after Church and usually order the Breakfast tacos with bacon. They are huge and flavorful! plenty of food and great value. Atmosphere is so-so, though better than the previous owner. Neighborhood favorite...owner checks on his diners...wait staff VERY attentive and they keep the coffee refills coming!!!

Great Breakfast

Went here with two friends. We had a great breakfast. We all ordered different things and they were all good. Their toasted biscuits were amazing

Buffet - no bacon, greasy, overlooked, dried out

By texas_forrest |

I see a lot of 5-star ratings, maybe my visit is an abnormality - but this restaurant is poor today. Came in around 10:30 Saturday morning for the breakfast buffet. Maybe the food had been sitting too long in the heat trays. But the restaurant was crowded and more customers continued to come in. I noticed this seems to be a meeting place. Almost every table has a group of friends or multiple family generations. Price is ridiculous for food this poor. $11.30 for the buffet and a glass of ice tea. No bacon in the buffet? Major omission. Don't think they were simply out of bacon as there was no sign for bacon - all buffet trays were labeled. They did have bacon tacos available. The meat offerings were sausage patties, link sausage and ham. The link sausage was quite greasy - grease oozed out when I cut the link. Sausage patties slightly dried out. Did not try the ham. Scrambled eggs and an egg casserole (eggs, cheese, hint of sausage) were available - both were barely warm and dried out. I tried the tater tots (from a bag of frozen food?). Greasy. Overcooked. Heavy and hard. With the exception of the ice tea, every food item I ate was poor. Other foods available on the buffet: pancakes, French toast, O'Brien potatoes, biscuits and gravy, eggs Benedict, and sliced fruit (melons, etc). Didn't try these - cannot comment. Service is minimal as expected with a buffet - the server did refill my ice tea; came by twice to offer refills. Although he took my glass away to refill, leaving me without a drink momentarily. Interior needs a little freshening up. Some paint chips on wall and some door trim appears to be rotting where it meets the floor. All ceiling tiles are fresh and completely without water stains. However, the air vents in the ceiling are quite dirty. I will not return.

Outstanding Huevos Rancheros

By Iris C |

Definitely reminded me of the California versions we so enjoyed in and around Los Angeles. Two eggs were cooked just the way I ordered and covered with a delicious salsa and slices of very fresh avocado. The O'Brian Potatoes were sooooo good!! Their Community Coffee was serve fresh and hot. Very impressed. Server Eddie was very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. The place is bright, comfortable and clean. And the owner, manager, receptionist all seemed to be present and worked well to please the customers,

Average food at best

By russkwtx |

After several years we returned to this place after hearing that it has improved. I suppose that is true: from abysmal before to average now. It remains a modest restaurant. On the positive side, it is mostly clean. But my fork was dirty as I found out upon being seated. Not a good start. For Sunday, it offers off the menu or break buffet options. We opted for off the menu. The food remains mediocre. My eggs were so well done that they could be used for basketballs. The sausage patties were ok but warm rather than hot. The O'Brien potatoes were ok. I suspect that our food sat for a while before it was brought to our table. The wife's sunny side up were cooked to perfection. The bacon was crispy as requested. Her potatoes tasted funky. The service was slow. Yet again people who came in after us were served way before us. It seems to be a theme in our lives. At least the waitress pointed us to cheaper options so she was trying to save us some money. But she was not attentive, never asking how the food was and not coming by for refills on coffee. The coffee, by the way, was not good. I think it will be a few years before we return to this place.

I eat here weekly

I really enjoy the Huevos Rancheros and order them regularly. In fact, I don't even need to ask for "the usual" because they just bring it to me when I walk in.

Family foodies like this diamond in the rough.

By Cindy M |

We love to go to JJs - the food is wholesome, the staff is great, and you can chat away, because it is quiet! It used to be all old people, but lots of young families and groups are meeting there. Also, the detectives from the White Rock police station are there quite a bit. The catfish is always fresh and tasty, and the roasted chicken is the best! There is a lunch buffet each day except Saturday..... that is a breakfast buffet. Ordering from the menu is great, too! They have extra thick, crispy bacon and grilled biscuits. They have homemade soups and sandwiches and lunch specials. They are only open through breakfast and lunch. There is a Friday night seafood seating, but I think someone else comes in and does that.....not as good as the everyday fare. My grandkids love to go there with me!

A Great Neighborhood Gem You Shouldn't Miss!

By Allen G |

How many times do you read a review that says: "Ok I know this is a travel site but you should really try this?" Not too often? Really, you should try this place. It is out of the way (a neighborhood gem) but it really is really really good! There's a Mexican flair to the place and it's always crowded on Friday and Saturday but there's a reason for that. Try it! You won't be disappointed.
