DELICIOUS LUNCH

By Perrymom |

Popped in Jo Bar for an impromptu Saturday late lunch. So glad we did!!! In town for a visit, we had eaten at some highly rated restaurants, however, this little place was by far my favorite meal during our stay!! The Cubano sandwich was incredibly delicious served with the best fries!!! My husband also loved his sausage pizza -- not your standard, but a gourmet pizza. Nicely stocked full bar and cozy, warm atmosphere for a chilly November day. I would definitely recommend this restaurant on NW 23d for an afternoon lunch break from fun shopping in this great area of town!

Perfection

By Buttajess |

I visited here with a friend and our kiddos in the daytime. There were only a few tables taken and we had a great server who was very attentive and genuinely nice. The ambiance was classy with an open kitchen. Now to the food- the food was so good, flavorful, and exactly as described on menu. The adult beverages were perfectly created and mixed. I just had no issues with the taste and portions of the food. The Cobb Salad was huge, the Cubano was tasty and a bit different, and I had like a ginger lime and gin drink that I savored.

Great Lunch

By John B |

We visited for lunch on a weekday. We've been here before and we looked forward to visiting again. Jo Bar did not disappoint. It's a small trendy place with comfort decor. Food is basic but very very good. Drinks are reasonable. Service was great. We had the Cobb Salad, the roast beef special (Panini french dip), the pasta (kids wolfed it down) and the cheese fondue (lovely gruyere).

Great food, margarita, service, ambiance and location

By robby-d |

While visiting Portland, my wife, my sister-in-law and I did a little window shopping at the stores along 23rd. Great place for shopping. My sister-in-law recommended a couple of places to eat and although she tried to be unbiased, we could tell her preference was Jo Bar. Since we were going to have a decent dinner, we didn't go crazy with what we ordered. I ordered the bruchetta and my wife ordered the cob salad. My sister-in-law ordered a cold (forgot the name, mexican?) soup. We tasted each other's food and it was all great, but I think I got the best. I had to use a knife and fork to eat the bruchetta which was very flavorful and not your run of the mill bruchetta as it had two whole large shrimp on each of the two large pieces of toast with other equally tasty ingredients. I saw the list of ingredients in their margaritas and decided to try one. Let me just say that I've had my share of margaritas, in mexico and in the states and Jo Bar's was one of the best. It's not your classic margarita but it's a excellent adaptation. It's worth mentioning that the service was low key but attentive. The place was not busy since it was noon time, the Tues. after Memorial Day.

Spur of the moment....

Late night dining as we were too full to eat big or high end earlier. Walked along 23rd Ave. & heard a Jazz musician playing in this place & windows were wide open with sidewalk tables available. Down we sat & enjoyed the music; shared a burger & salad & I ordered a Flight Tasting of 3 Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs (2 oz pour each). Perfect for what we wanted. Wished the Jazz guy played past 9:30 but we took what we could. Jumped across the street for desert at Salt & Straw.

Great lunch!

By Heron5 |

My husband and I ate lunch at Jo Bar while in Portland at the beginning of September. We had the prix fixe, I had the hanger steak with fries and my husband had wild salmon. Both dishes were delicious! So glad we found Jo Bar!

2 visits in a week

By Solrsparkle |

We were staying in Portland and were recommended visit this street. The two of us stopped here for lunch and it was very good indeed. My partner said he had the best burger in America. Service was very good and the prices were average. We took the family (10 of us) back at the end of the week. Unfortunately the service was the worst we experienced in the whole of our 2 weeks in America! It was such a shame. Prices still good though. Maybe they just can't cope with large parties!

The best of the best!

By CTD |

This place is simply great, I’ve been a customer for many years and unbelievably I’ve never been disappointed. The service, food, and ambiance really can’t be beat and what’s amazing is that it has remained consistent for years. Jo Bar is actually the bar for Papa Hayden next door, so when you go save room for a fabulous dessert. This is truly one of Portland’s unsung treasures and with all the chaos we have witnessed recently in the Portland restaurant business we are so very lucky to still have it.

Dinner

Food and service were amazing. My husband had the burger and I had the risotto would recommend both. Our waiter was friendly.

Great French Onion Soup!

By Mollie R |

We stopped here for lunch on the last day of our trip. Like most people by the end of the trip you are so full of rich food that you just want something light... Or to cook for yourself! The French onion soup was exactly what we needed. Simple and light. Very happy we stumbled across this! In a very cute part of town!

A lovely place to sit with a friend and enjoy a glass of wine.

By dr_MPortland_OR |

Jo Bar has a nice ambience, sidewalk seating on nice days, and a nice wine/cocktail list. It's simply lovely on a sunny afternoon or evening for some people-watching along 23rd. Good for a date night or with friends.

Delicious food, great happy hour

By blreiss |

We popped in here one late afternoon after going to the Japanese Gardens. We loved the food, drinks, atmosphere, and service. And the neighborhood...really a nice place.

Great service

By Gmickers11661 |

First I would like to say that KC was outstanding. I was by my self enjoying a day off in the pearl. I have been to Jo before with overall good food and service. I was not disappointed. The fondue appetizer is amazing and if you are by yourself more than enough. I also had the chicken which was good but not great. The sauce seemed to be just the grease from the chicken, nothing more. The olives are a nice touch. I will check out happy hour.

Favorite bar/restaurant...

Favorite bar/restaurant in Portland! Try the Jo Pate. All the specials are good. Excellent drinks.

Jazz drinks, and dessert.

By Mark P |

Jo Bar has great live jazz and desserts from the adjoining Papa Haydn's! We went to see some live jazz, and the performance was just incredible. These are real musicians. The desserts from Papa Haydn's was amazing. You should go.

Nice neighborhood place

By SNG56 |

Looking for someplace casual in the area and found this place. We were in time for happy hour which is a real deal for drinks and small plates. Enjoyed the bruschetta and then a Cobb salad and the chicken. All very good, nice and fresh. Service was ok. There was also music the night we were there which was a nice treat.

Good place to relax in Nob Hill

By AnnetheRaven |

You need to chill and take a break from all that shopping on NW 23rd. This is the place. Get a great burger or salad or fish special. Cozy decor and outdoor tables too. Excellent wines by the glass and beers. Friendly staff.

A Sweet Spot for Lunch

By JimP_CT |

We thought we were walking into Papa Haydn (which is right next door and has a flexible relationship with Jo Bar--some sharing of facilities; similar menus at lunch, different ones at dinner) and ended up glad to be where we were. My wife opted for the prix fixe lunch--$15 for a glass of wine, a nice salad and bruschetta topped with heirloom tomatoes and shrimp. I had one of my lunch favorites, a Cobb salad, and appreciated Jo Bar's twist of doing it with a delicious garlic dressing. The food was fresh and nicely presented. Our table at an open window was a perfect spot for people-watching on a warm day along lively NW 23rd. I wouldn't call any of this exceptional, but it was all very nice. Then the exceptional happened--a truy amazing Oregon blackberry tart with lime mascarpone and a shortbread crust. The dessert menu here is l-o-n-g. Even if you usually skip desserts at mid-day (us too), make an exception at Jo Bar and have something wonderful.

great location on 23rd....nice for cocktails after a hard day of shopping. good people watching. Foods good too.

Their hamburger with brie is to die for. Definitely will return.

Great atmosphere and music

By Amy Y |

We arrived for drinks around 10:00 pm, just in time to hear The Bylines play. We stayed for hours, and not just because of the great music. The service was friendly and prompt -- a drink was offered just when we needed one. I'd never been to Jo Bar, and I'll return for the atmosphere alone.

Laid-back yet classy bistro

By gnawh |

a laid-back yet classy bistro. Arrived for an early dinner, seated at one of the tables in the bar area. Best restaurant meal we've had in ages. The Rotisserie Chicken and the Prawn Pasta were excellent and well presented. A few beers and wines by the glass are available. Great atmosphere, including the jazz trio that began playing at 7:00pm. Definitely recommended.

Deliciously Fresh!

By Lorraine B |

Two elegant cocktails were beautifully presented to us in small but appropriate martini glasses. The Cosmopolitan "like" concoction had a sweet and sour floral flavor which compliments the SALMON NICOISE SALAD. I would hazard a guess that all the ingredients were farm fresh as they tasted as they should. The salad was traditional with all the right combination of salty anchovies, sweet tomatoes. mouth tender butter lettuce, eggs cooked to perfection, delicious buttery new potatoes, snappy green beens and a fillet of salmon that was slightly too small for the dish and a tad overcooked. The bread that I requested was chewy and crusty at the same time, served with garlic whipped butter. Slightly over charged, as in the old days bread came for free, without a $5 charge. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant lunch, service as good as it should be. I would go again, although a little "rich" price wise, it was tasty enough to tempt me back.

We landed here, spur of the moment, on a Friday night. We each had sandwiches; burger and a cubano. They were both great. Service was good too. Because of the location this place was a bit overpriced. Anyway, I think you should try it.

One Of Nob Hill's Finest!

By Tricia S |

Jo Bar & Rotisserie is located in the heart of the trendy Nob Hill district, on NW 23rd Avenue. It is under the same owner as the excellent Papa Haydn restaurant, next door. As it is conveniently in my neighborhood, I go there often, for lunch, Happy Hour, and dinner. They have a friendly staff who make you feel welcome, and the food is excellent most of the time (I have rarely been disappointed). Their Happy Hour, although a slight bit pricier than some of the others, is worth it. They have many excellent choices on the Happy Hour menu, but my favorite is the Fondue with veggies and served with fresh, delicious bread from Ken's Artisan Bakery (yum)! For lunch, I generally order one of their salads, and they have excellent salads to choose from. I enjoy the ambiance, especially the seats along the window, where it is a great place to "people watch" as the shoppers go by, and a fun place to sit to watch the rain on a rainy day, with charming shops to view across the street. They have outdoor, sidewalk seating in pretty weather, and very friendly to dog owners who stop for outdoor seating with their dogs. On certain evenings, they have live jazz, and the music is always good. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Usually in for lunch, this time for dinner. Very comfortable, quiet, very attentive staff. Dinner great. Would go back.

Afternoon Happy Hour Joy

By Lori H |

We took a break from visiting family by poking along NW 23rd Ave. It was late afternoon, so we grabbed a table outside at Jo Bar. The service was very pleasant. On a beautiful day in Portland, we enjoyed people watching this heavily trafficked area, and our canine companion enjoyed the other dogs out and about. The bar snacks were good, and I liked the Aperol Spritz, which was not too terribly sweet the way they can sometimes be. It would be hard to beat the service and location. What a pleasant way to whittle away our afternoon.

Excellent, and good value!

By davlynski |

After a day walking around Portland, we stopped in here for an afternoon beer, and decided we’d book later for dinner. My rotisserie chicken was perfectly cooked, with great herbs, radishes and tiny potatoes. One of the best chicken meals I’ve ever had . My wife’s prawn pasta was excellent too. A small list of Oregon and imported wines were around $9- $15 a glass. A great position to sit and watch the passing parade of people too !

Great Service!

By Naomi P |

I love everything about this place, except that I walked past it about 10x's without noticing it. The staff is incredibly friendly, there are only two chefs. Everything is cooked in the wood fire oven, and you can see them work, which adds a cozy vibe. The food is a bit slow coming out, but its worth the wait because it gives me more time to order another delicious cocktail. It's hard not to spend a lot of money here.

Visiting Portland where we lived for many years

By jbmadden54 |

Jo bar was always a favorite but what we experienced was a surly waiter. My husband ordered a Cubano sandwich which had no flavor and had to send back. I ordered a mushroom pizza which was barely edible. So disappointed since this had always been our to go spot.

Nice variety with seasonal options

By Elmyra5 |

There were many seasonal options for our large group, which was full of picky eaters. The fondue appetizer was amazing and just the right size. The salads showcased northwestern salmon and berries. The drinks were nice and strong. Large variety of ciders.

Great Place!

By Barbie Williams |

Walking 23rd Avenue on a warm (for Portland) beautiful day, we headed over to Jo Bar and sat right in the front window to grab a quick lunch. Fun artistic atmosphere and you could tell locals enjoyed being here. Great salads and the burger was decent. Great space and fun watching everyone stroll by. Special shout out to wonderful Sterling!

Chic and delicious!

By Susan G |

Love this downtown restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Great menu with fresh food and wonderful dessert.

Fantastic live music, food and drinks!

By Lotsatravel33 |

One of a handful places to hear high quality jazz and blues on a regular basis, Jo Bar has excellent service, a fantastic bar, and superb food. All in a casual-stylish and comfortable setting. A must when you visit PDX!

Bar Service at it's best

By Tom Portland |

We go there regularly and sit at the bar, most often during happy hour. After two visits they recognize you, Make great cocktails, quick services on for, interesting guests, good view of the street without being on the street.

Drinks were tasty

We only stopped in for drinks but were impressed by the friendly bartender and unique cocktails. Try an Old Growth #2 with Douglas Fir infused brandy. Great!

Great spot to stop on shopping street for drinks, appies during happy hour

By ccriderYVR |

We have been to Jo Bar, every time we are in Portland. It is one of our go to places. A fun, casual environment but the drinks and food is really good. It's funny, I don't think we actually ever ordered the Rotisserie because they offer a great selection of appetizers and that is usually more interesting the mains. The bartenders are very skilled and can mix some very interesting drinks. Next door is a dessert place that is part of Joe and you can walk through the two restaurants through the shared bathroom corridor. Seating by the window is nice but they have some plush banquette seating for groups on one side.

Keep on walkin'

By Trip100462 |

I had the beer and burger. The burger was OK but very plain and the beer was horrible. Service was middle of the road and price was ok but considering all else, go someplace else.

Late night Dinner

By trelkacrib |

We enjoyed a late dinner last Sunday night. We walked around, trying to decide which place that would suite us the best and happily picked Jo Bar & Rotisserie on 23rd. We walked in to a wonderful band playing some really nice Jazz, super friendly staff that went out of there way to accommodate us that night. I got the Steak Dinner and my Wife went with the Pasta. Both were perfect. The Steak was cooked perfectly with Brussel Sprouts and Potatoes...With a great wine selection we were set! Please give it a try if you are in the area.

The Appy's get an A

By Sabcfamily |

The setting on 23rd Ave in the alphabet District on a summers night by the large open windows couldn't be better. The service was attentive but the recommendations poor (go with your gut). The Ahi Tuna was amazing with mango..... the plantain chips missed the mark for me but the tuna was so good. The Chicken Liver Pate was also excellent although we could have used some extra bread to finish it. The mains were ok. the shrimp pasta had no sauce and was salty. The burger was overcooked. The white sangria was a hit. For $70 I thought it was a bit overpriced for a 2 person meal with no dessert and one drink each. The bill came from Papa Haydens next door so I assume the two are connected - I might try next door next time.

Good food on 23rd

Fan was blowing doors open sitting inside and out. Temps are warm but feels pretty good inside. Sister restaurants share customers. All great meals. Salmon actually med rare. Prices reasonable.

Great Happy Hour

By stopoverqueen |

This city has so many restaurants offering the Happy Hour deal and this one really hits the spot. The servings were filling and the drinks were wonderful. Bar seemed to have many happy regulars.

Perfect place for girls' evening out

By Lisa P |

Delicious food, great wine, nice ambiance. Perfect place to meet up with good friends, talk, and laugh.

Wonderful food and service

By McWett |

We stopped in late on Thursday and we were greeted like they had just opened, warm, friendly and happy to see us. Our waitress was Chelsea and she was great, while the patient bartender was pointing out the beers to my friend and I Chelsea was giving our wives a very informative description of their Pinots by the glass. They ended up choosing the flight of three and also had a sample of a fourth. Our meals were wonderful, the prosciutto pizza is spicy, and the shrimp salad is awesome. After dinner we asked about where we could find one of the Pinots and Chelsea found someone who was able to tell us where it was available since it was a very limited release. This was our first night in Portland and if the rest of our stay is close to measuring up to Jo's it will be very successful.

Excellent

By DinerPortland |

I had a really lovely meal here with a friend recently. Both our meals were excellent, and the ambiance conducive to quiet conversation and comfort. I wanted a special drink, which they put together for me. The service was also very good. Both attentive, and giving us enough space to eat and chat in private. Highly recommended. Then go next door to Papa Hayden's for a remarkable dessert!

Terrific food - excellent happy hour -- unusual drinks

By Nancy A |

We arrived at 5 to eat early for game night and was surprised by happy hour and a quiet corner spot. Their food has always been excellent, so is the HH menu: cobb salad, small burger, halibut....I also had an terrific, unusual cocktail. Jo Bar is next to Papa Haydn of dessert fame. So you could do both. This would be a great as a stopping point for sightseeing on NW 23rd Avenue. But parking is difficult (I used the very expensive lot around the corner). So, look at the street car or 23rd Ave Bus (TriMet website is excellent).

Lovely Lunch Spot

By SharHun |

Wonderful food and drinks. Ambiance, food and service are all top notch. One of my "go to" spots for lunch when shopping in NW 23rd area.

Great Restaurant!

By Shirazi35 |

I have been going there during past few years either with family and friends! It is a very nice place for dinner or lunch with a very reasonable price! Being next to Papa Haydn makes it also a great place for dessert! Do not hesitate to go there! Enjoy it.

Old Friends Catching Up

By Carey B |

I have been coming here for 25 years. Wonderful place. Love Jazz several nights a week. Great staff with personality. Authentic NW cocktails. Comfort food with a sophisticated point of view. Amazing deserts! Highly recommend Jo Bar on a Portland visit.

Old Standby

By mzungu f |

Been coming here since before I moved here, so it's on my regular list of places. Food is always good. Happy Hour menu is quite good, and they usually have an good white and red for $5/glass. Also some fun drink specials. I've been here with friends, with family, and for business, and noboday is ever disappointed. They have something on the menu for everyone, and the desserts are SUPER. One downer is the parking - it would be great if they could give you a 2-hour voucher to park in their back lot, even if it might be owned by someone else. I've been to JoBar twice in the past month, and the first time we expected to be done with business dinner within 2 hours, so we paid the $6, but the service was unusually slow, and we ended up 3 hours later coming out to a $45 ticket. It was written up 10 minutes after our 2 hours expired, like someone was just waiting there (no leeway). So the next time I came with friends we paid for 2 hours and made sure we limited our time, which results in lost revenue for the restaurant and lost tips for the server. Two other folks asked us, and we told them they would get a ticket if they didn't pay, and they drove off the lot and went elsewhere. I know it's 'the price' to come to shop/eat/play downtown, however it's getting to be a deterrent when you can go to Bridgeport or elsewhere and park for free.

Great salad and Chicken!

By edmondite |

We went for early dinner on a weeknight and were seated quickly and got great service! DH and I split the Salad with shrimp cake and Rotisserie chicken. Delicious! My only regret is that the live music started about the time we were finished with our meal.

Great lunch with family

By CraftyChick063 |

The day after Christmas we wandered down to NW 23rd and enjoyed a great meal of steamed clams, jo pâté and a sausage pizza. Yum! Such a great atmosphere and fantastic service. So happy to see a favorite person of ours, James, and we were lucky to be in his section. He made the experience that much more special.

I couldn't really tell you about the burgers, but their blueberry limeade is awesome. Risotto not so much. Fries kind of sucked, too. The garlic butter for the bread was good.

Wow

By OcTravlr |

Wow. I had the lunch special, Cantonese sandwich, and I have to say it was unique and amazing. What a blend of flavors and the garlic lemon fries were surprisingly good. Loved the atmosphere of the place. Great people watching out the windows. Our server was attentive and friendly. Great find!

Great neighborhood restaurant

By Toni B |

This is a favorite neighborhood haunt. The food and service are always good. It's reasonably priced. The desserts are amazing. Definitely try the boccone dolce.

Jazz nights at Jo bar

By Marina B |

I absolutely love Jazz nights at Jo bar. The atmosphere is electric, the food is great, and amazing cocktails. However, I'm disappointed they moved the musicians to the entryway. When they performed at the booth, it felt like a dedicated stage that amplified the entire experience.

Good pizza

By eagles78 |

We enjoyed a good salad and veggie pizza. It was light but good.

Divine Cobb Salad and more

By Tubamom |

Wonderful service and food. There were four of us for dinner tonight - we had the Cobb Salad, the Flat Iron Steak, the Roast Chicken and the Jo Bar Burger. All were outstanding. The Cobb Salad was the best I have ever had - lots of chicken and great blue cheese. My sister complimented the flat iron steak as being very good. They were great about letting her substitute different sides than the ones shown on the menu. My daughter said the roast chicken was tender and fell off the bone and the house-made fries were really good. The burger came with a great-looking wedge salad with bacon and some great tater tots in a mini fry basket. Lots of great food for the price and great service too. For dessert, we shared the sorbet (coconut and pineapple!) and 6 assorted macarons. All were awesome

Do not bother

By goodaccomdation |

Lacklustre lunch - nothing special. Average food. Although we were informed that it shares the same kitchen as Papa Haydn next door, we will not bother with a return visit. The staff was very uninterested in serving.

Quaint & Comfy

By Lorri B |

Jo Bar has fantastic food not just fantastic drinks! Wonderful cozy spot while you are out shopping trendy NW 23rd. Also, the Jo Bar is part of Papa Haydens, so the desserts are OUT OF THIS WORLD! Enjoy!

A neighborhood foodie gem

By Megan R |

I regularly eat here for their fondue and hamburgers and tots. The food and service is consistently good and it's one of my go-to places that's close by to take out-of-town guests and it's always a hit. It's has a great indoor/outdoor space on warmer days perfect for people watching, and a low key and funky vibe only enhanced by the live jazz they play four nights a week.

Perfect Place for Food and Drink

By Shirazi35 |

Memorable evening with family on a Friday evening with great food, service and very friendly ambience! Even though the menu is limited; but the best thing is you can choose any item from the menu and you will be very happy! Everything about this place is great; therefore plan to go there ASAP!

Great Happy Hour!

By Emma Z |

Stopped in here while walking around shopping. We didn't even know it was happy hour until we sat. Most small plates were only $5! With snacks like assorted olives for $1! It was very good for the price. I also had raviolis in a pad thai style, pretty good!

Happy Hour is Great!

By Ed R |

Its been a decade since I stopped into this venue as I have moved away from Portland. I found myself on NW 23rd on a drippy afternoon. Having missed lunch, I thought getting out of the wet for an early dinner made sense. Just then I walked pass the Jo Bar. Whallah! Happy Hour was in play. I was able to get a glass of high quality Willamette Valley Pinot noir and a small "personal" fondue. Service was great and the setting is welcoming. I could warm up a bit, enjoy a small meal and collect my thoughts for the next meeting. Perfect.

This place never disappoints. Great food, drinks and staff. Love the desserts, of course. Open late which is a plus. Stopped in for late nite drinks and bites. So good. Servers rock, bartender too!

Nice neighborhood restaurant

By Mary W |

The service was great - very attentive staff. I had the steak paired with a Portuguese wine. It was absolutely delicious. The price was reasonable and the food was excellent. I can't wait to go back

Cozy, romantic, classy place. Feels like a neighborhood bar.

By PaulParks |

The ambiance of this small restaurant is always great to return to. It is quiet enough that I don't have to strain to hear my partner across the table. The decor is classy. The bar is pretty. The staff is inviting. We came at 6:00p on a Friday and got the last two top by the window. Our server took a little while to get to us, but he was attentive after that. My friend had the soup and was really impressed with that. He then ordered the salmon on top of a salad and our waiter had no problem making that happen. I had the chicken cassoulet and it was perfectly cooked! Two chicken legs with thighs, beans, carrots, brussel sprouts. I took one leg home. Nice selection of wines by the glass.

Servers need more menu education

By MeAgain8 |

I come here about once a year with friends, usually to celebrate one of our birthdays. The atmosphere is inviting and the drinks are fresh and interesting, however, on this visit we found the service to be lacking. While our server was extremely friendly, she wasn't able to answer many of the questions we had about menu items - just that it was "good". she said she'd ask the chef, but never came back with an answer. Service was slow and she didn't bring bread until right before our entrees came. For a rainy Tuesday night, it was pretty busy and I can't imagine how things would go on a much busier weekend night.

Rose and Pate all day!

By Jason A |

Perfect Saturday lunch in NW Portland. Sit and enjoy the freshly prepared Pate and Oysters while drinking Rose and people watching on NW 23rd, added bonus if it is a sunny day! The food was amazing, the staff was friendly and helpful guiding us through a leisurely lunch.

Cool, hip atmosphere

By lantana50 |

We were a group of six women that stopped by for happy hour. We were staying at a B&B close by (nice neighborhood to stay while in Portland). We were seated immediately although it was a very busy place. The atmosphere is funky and a bit noisy, yet warm and inviting. The waitresses were friendly. I had the salmon apple salad (on lunch menu) that was very good. Happy hour is not exactly a bargain; wine, beer and well drinks are $1 off. We would definitely return.

Delish!

By Kenipela |

My husband and I stopped here when we were in Portland last weekend and had a delicious lunch! He got the burger and beer and I got the beet salad and we split them- both were yummy! The salad had lots of roasted beets, including golden, and a tasty dressing. The burger was outstanding! It was cooked just right and topped with lots of poblano chiles and other goodies. It also came with a Korean beer that was light and not hoppy which I enjoyed. The employees were friendly and helpful with the menu. Now that I know they are part of Papa Haydns I WILL partake of their desserts next time!

Amazing brunch

By Margaret Van V |

Everything was amazing. The service, the food, the drinks. And un-discovered - at least for brunch on Northwest 23rd. We could get a table immediately and had very unhurried service. Cerviche of fresh halibut, steak with poached egg, Mahon cheese with rhubarb jam, ..... Wow.

Jo Bar makes a great lamb pizza

By Razorfish |

My wife and I ate at Jo Bar during our trip to Portland in July to visit our daughter. My wife had the lamb pizza, which she said was the best pizza she had ever eaten. It had homemade lamb sausage, grilled eggplant, oven roasted tomato, tzatziki and feta cheese. I had the wild salmon BLT. It was good but not knock your socks off spectacular. My daughter, who is a vegan, had them to make her a vegetable stir fry, which she enjoyed. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was good. It was a pleasurable evening with our daughter at Jo Bar.

Great Food and Bar with Low Key Atmosphere

By costaricatravel09 |

Enjoyed brunch with family here. The vibe here is casual with a full bar, cosy seating, and an excellent brunch menu. I enjoyed the chicken chilaquiles-very tasty. Two of our party ordered the bay shrimp cake with the orange salad. We were surprised that the dish came with two good size cakes. They were delicious. Our waitress was very good and went out of her way to help someone in our party who has multiple food allergies. Her grilled chicken was perfect.

Great 23rd Ave. hang. Only had drinks but food looked great

By Brad M |

Will go back for dinner. We only had drinks but the place has a great vibe, service and the wood fired food looked and smelled wonderful. The female bartender was awesome and suggested the Sellwood cocktail with gin, st. germain, grapefruit juice and peach bitters which was light and perfect for the very warm evening.

As good as Papa Haydn! ;-)

By Linda T |

Owned by Papa Haydn, and right next door, Jo Bar is a good alternative to the sometimes long wait at PH. Similar menu items - same desserts - but also some different menu items that are very good - e.g., fondue. I

A pleasant surprise...walked in off the street and had a great salad and damn good IPA.

Good food, good vibe

By mennix |

Tonite we wanted to eat close by the hotel. We walked by Jo Bar and Rotisserie. The menu had some nice food on it and it looked cosy inside. Our expectations were correct. We had a well flavored dinner, made with many local organic ingredients. The service was also great.

Delicious

We had food here two times. the oysters , chicken liver pate - pad thai ravioli - were all great. Having a table outside was perfect.

Lunch in the Pearl

By Flowbleu |

Nice, quirky atmosphere, located on 23rd St. What a great place for a lunch outside, people watching. I had a Cobb Salad, a meal in a bowl. Yummy bacon, chicken, blue cheese, tomatoes, fresh lettuce, etc. it was served with fresh bread and a variety of olives with a seasoned butter. It was a great meal at a reasonable price. Only problem they didn't have blue cheese dressing. Ok, I am old school! The waitress kindly offered 2 options. Try them on the side first. The tarragon was too sweet.

Great Clams and Pommes Frites

By Highridge6161 |

After a long drive from the beach we were ready to eat, and with the great weather Portland was providing this day, wanted a table outside. We decided on Jo Bar on NW 23rd. Got there just in time for Happy Hour, so ordered off the HH menu... clams with sausage (they make their own sausages) which were fresh and spicy; Pommes Frites fried perfectly; 3-cheese pizza with fresh tomatoes and basil, accompany with white and red wines. Perfect way to end the afternoon! Jo Bar is always a place to go for us, always consistent with their food and service… great location!

Loved it! and then Really disappointed

By Maggie O'C |

I have been to JoBar several times over the last couple of years. In July 2001, I had one of the best restaurant meals and service, I've ever had. The JoBar team was hitting on all cylinders. I take an out of town friend there about 6 weeks later and it was really mediocre. The food was okay, service was REALLY slow. I was so bummed. I don't know what to tell you. I guess hit or miss. My boyfriend thought maybe it was lousy service b/c it was a Sunday and it was the end of the weekend. I have no idea why that would affect anything but there's no other explanation.

I always eat here whenever in Portland!

Every time I visit Portland I make it a point to stop here for lunch. Great neighborhood location and food. Excellent menu and wine list as well as great ambiance. Don't miss it.

Nice staff, good location, food pretty standard.

By Michael W |

An easy location to find with really friendly and helpful staff. Popular for dinner and Happy Hour. Food is pretty standard and a bit over-priced - a rather greasy Cubano sandwich at almost $14 for instance. That said, the local oysters were superb, fresh and with a very good dressing. Reliable pizza.

Not the Best

I believe we visited after a particularly bad "rush" The service was slow and the meals were brought out at different times for our party of 3. The staff was nice enough though.

Birthday Celebration

By KathieVee |

Unbelievably delicious food to nosh on, the best of which and certainly the most festive appetizer was the burrata in the attached picture. Service, even on a busy evening, is really great! Very attentive ladies. Outside seating on a hot summer night or inside looking out on a slightly cooler night/day...

Best Entertainment on Monday Night!

By Michael A |

This is our favorite place to be on Monday nights for dinner or just a drink. The Dan Balmer Group plays here every Monday starting at 7pm. This awesome three-piece combo plays original mellow jazz led by our favorite local guitarist, Dan Balmer. An up-close Portland experience to put on your must-do list!

So Glad We Picked This Place

By Nubbyrose12 |

My daughter and I were visiting Portland and the surrounding area. Friday night was our last night and we were considering a more formal place to eat but my daughter wanted to try Salt and Straw ice cream before we left. This place is near by so we decided to do the happy hour. The food, drinks and service was excellent. We plan to return. I would definitely visit this place more than once on a visit to Portland.

Tasty food but service a bit slow

By Lara G |

Lovely food and great selection. Plus we were able to walk in on a Saturday night. However starters were better than our mains and the service was quite slow - 15 mins for our drinks alone. That said would be very happy eating here again!

Elegant but also relaxing and pleasant

By John K |

Excellent New York steak, macaroons and sorbet. Elegantly served by knowledgeable and helpfully pleasant personnel, all of whom worked so hard. Tasteful decor, a mix of local restaurant and cocktail bar, popular with all ages.

Good happy Hour

By Joewashere2 |

I had two Items for happy hour My first recommendation is the Cobb salad simple, fresh and good Second is the Carne Asada Tacos there not the best I ever had but are tasty. And don’t forget my favorite Cock N Bull ginger beer. Happy eating.

Great Atmosphere and delicious food!

By Vince B |

Me, my wife, and our friend went there for lunch after we arrived from the airport. We started with patay for an appetizer. Man... it was so delicious. We ate all the bread and our waiter asked us if we need more👍 I had the steak. That was even more delicious. They had the steak over the potatoes with the caviar sauce.🙌 This place exceeded my expectations and gave me an expression of how my first time in Portland would be. Dang.....I wished I would have taken a picture of my meal😩

Fab location, good vibes, friendly staff, and delicious food.

By lessellie |

This restaurant was a perfect mix of classy and chill. The small tables on the sidewalk are great for people watching and getting to know the people dining next to you. I had the fire-roasted heirloom tomato pizza and my friend had the duck. We both loved our meals. The pizza was the perfect size (not too big). Our server suggested local beers to both of us that perfectly matched our taste prefernces.

Drinks and clams

By Mizzou2002 |

Stopped at Jo's for on a busy Saturday afternoon while on vacation for drinks and something light. We got a nice table for two on the sidewalk. Everything was great. I highly reccomend the moscow mule with kombucha. The steamed clams were great. Very fresh and spiced just right. The oysters were good too. Service was great.

Great lunch!

In a great area a wonderful little restaurant. Just had a salad and pizza, but both were exquisite, the mark of a great place. The service was friendly and fast, the food excellent, the prices great and the service was the best.

Their Happy Hour is the best!!!

By zenborzoi |

What a deal! We split a Cobb salad and then had a burger, onion soup and sweet potato chips along with a dish of olives for just $19 before the tip. The Happy Hour starts at 3 pm and it was a late lunch for us. Excellent food, great service and wonderful surroundings. We're going back next time we are in Portland!

Best risotto ever

By Vikki972 |

This eatery is consistently good. The quality of the food is outstanding. I am a frequent and long time fan of their happy hour. But the Prawn Risotto the other night was smashing. I paired it with a roasted beet salad.

Super Quaint...

By J Kimberly W |

Jo's is adjacent to Papa Hayden's but is different from PH. The ambiance is nice, it dark with low lighting and they have an amazingly talented bartender, yummy cocktails. Their menu is is good too. I have been here a couple of times, great for happy hours as well.

Jo Bar re-discovered!

By Randy M |

This is a restaurant which has been around for many years, but with all the terrific restaurants continuously opening in Portland, I totally forgot about it. Then, we were able too secure a table for New Year's Eve, and I was reminded why I liked it so well! Excellent (but not cheap) food, and 23rd is always a great place to hang out and watch the activity!

Love that you can quench your thirst and soothe your appetite all day

Love to stop here for a meal or snack while walking & shopping on NW23rd in Portland. We visit frequently when visitors are in town or when we are needing a good snack/drink or meal during those in between times.

Northwest Portland At Its Best...

By SteveParr |

We to Jo Bar & Rotisserie for dinner with a friend. I was mildly crowded, but I quickly got a seat at the bar while waiting for my friend to arrive. As it got a bit more crowded, I walked up to the host and explained that I was waiting for someone, but was getting concerned about us not being able to get a table. Without a second of hesitation, he grabbed a "RESERVED" sign and placed it on a table for me. This place gets high marks for service. The meal was excellent. We got plenty of fresh bread prior to the entrees being served, and I got a New York Strip that was perfectly prepared. It was an enjoyable evening all bthe way around. I don't mind a place that's a bit more noisy than it is quiet, and Jo Bar fits that description. My only complaint would be that our table was so close to the next table, it felt as though we were dining with them, instead of just in the same room with them. This isn't the least expensive restaurant in Northwest, I'm sure, but it's very good, and I can certainly see myself visiting again. Pretty high marks all around, though.

Dinner with family

By Avik C |

Had dinner with family here; we were able to sit very quickly on a Saturday when most other places nearby told us that there was a 30-45 wait. We were relived to see that the dinner area was kids friendly even though there is a good size that adults can avail. As fifths food, it was all served with entrees that were freshly made. Quantity was on the skimpy side. Good to try it once

Meet up and eat up

By klahaye |

Jo Bar is a great foodie restaurant with an atmosphere conducive to gathering with friends and family for a wonderful meal and conversation. The staff is friendly and helpful with good menu suggestions and do not rush you. Have whatever they feature as the special, and try/share a pizza.

Classic location and great ambiance

By James M |

It was so nice to visit Portland and not see the horrible urban sprawl that's ruining the surrounding areas (I thought that you all had an urban growth boundary)?, or the stamp out ugly condo projects near Lloyd Center and in North Portland. Visited the uptown, NW 23rd area and it's a beautiful, classic old Portland, pedestrian friendly, and welcoming breath of fresh air. Especially Jo Bar. Stopped in for drinks and lunch, sat at the bar, chatted with local patrons, the bar tender, had a fantastic cocktail and a wonderful experience. (The cherry in the Manhattan was like nothing I'd ever tasted. Was sooooo delicious). Exactly like the Portland I remembered and so badly hope gets preserved during this madness that they are calling "progress."

Great drinks, great service!

By tumpane |

A pear ginger martini ... not your garden variety libation ... definitely took the edge off of a very trying day. Although the place was bustling, the waitstaff was very attentive. They even brought our drinks next door to Papa Haydn so we could have dessert there. Great drinks and the best desserts in town; can't go wrong there !

Good for brunch

By Patricia C |

I was there with friends for brunch. Good menu, nice drinks and the music was great. I liked the service, too. The waiter was very polite.

Lovely cozy restaurant right in middle of 23rd, great location & food

By SuzyG |

Great atmosphere, wonderful happy hour food and drinks. Cozy restaurant right in midddle of hip 23rd Street so you can browse all the lovely boutiques or go for a nightcap when you're finished eating. More suitable to couples/friends dining than family dining. I don't think I've ever seen a child in there!

JUST DONT PUT YOUR FEET UP!!!!!!

By Keith H |

Casual dining this is NOT! We got kicked out for propping our fresh pressed white socked feet on our chairs during jazz jams!!! A shame to the Portland jazz community.
