I found this place on triple D. Thank you Guy! I ate the best short rib dip in the world. The meat is piping hot and melts in your mouth. The bread is homemade and soft! The cheese is gooey and strings when you eat. The chocolate shake tastes like you are drinking fudge! The salad had the best dressing and aged parmesan. This is my families new favorite place in San Diego

I've had breakfast and lunch at Jo's and they were both good. The eggs Benedict had just the right amount of sauce and the waffles were wonderful. For lunch we had the salmon burger which came with shoestring fries. Yummy! Service is friendly and prices reasonable.

Food was excellent. Veggie scramble with potatoes was prepared very different than expected and was outstanding!. Burger is served as a lettuce wrap style with shoestring fries. Food seemed personally made with great attention to detail. Modern diner and had minimal parking available in the back or paid street parking available. Would return.

A hole in the wall restaurant but fantastic food. Fish and chips were perfect and was halibut...very expensive, cooked to perfection as were the fries. My dinner companion was equally impressed as he had the meatloaf...huge portion, and was the best ever. Great service as well. Happy Hour features any wine on their menu for $6...a real deal. Can't wait to go back.

My wife and I just had lunch at this place while visiting the area. While they call themselves a 'diner', it's not your usual diner for many reasons. The food overall is very good although it is a little too upscale for my taste. Had a little difficulty getting my order right as I didn't want all of the sauces, pesto, and other seasonings that they use on their dishes. Only dijon mustard (no simple yellow) here though they did have standard unflavored/unsweetended iced tea. The metal chairs they use do have seat cushions however, the back supports are narrow and they are uncomfortable if you have a normal or plus-sized backside. The parking in the area is also very difficult to find so you'll likely be paying a parking meter if you can even find an open one. That being said, the server was very nice and she was attentive. We had lunch items so I can't rate their breakfasts however, their menu is largely dedicated to breakfast fare. If you like an upscale 'diner' and you don't mind hunting for a place to park, this place might be for you.

We loved this place under its previous incarnation as the French restaurant Cafe Bleu. Some of the same staff and management have transformed the cafe into a classy California style diner. It now serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. The menu retains some of the favorites from before (the French onion soup is a classic), but adds additional choices that round out the menu and provide something for just about every taste. A nightly prix fixe dinner is a bargain, as is the happy hour. Service is professional and knowledgeable, presentations are photo worthy and portions are generous. Highly recommended.

The food is delicious. The service is outstanding. The ambiance is nice and cozy. This restaurant is a high-grade diner.

Saw Guy in DDD visit the diner, went for the braised ribs. Incredible, we had the chilaquiles (better than good). The benedicts with braised ribs and the spinach and goat cheese scramble!!! All was very very good!!!. We have a new place to go!! Will visit as much as possible in the future!!

Excellent food and service. Found restaurant on episode of Diners drive in and Dives. Very courteous service, food was good

We always enjoy checking a Triple-D restaurant off our list and as we were staying near Jo’s, we thought we’d give it a try. It’s in a great neighborhood with a ton of other places to eat. There is parking around back but it’s a bit tight. Finding a place to park might be a small issue, but it’s worth it. The restaurant isn’t very big but we had no trouble being seated right away. On this particular night, the wait staff was excellent but the kitchen seemed short-staffed. It took 20 minutes from placing our order until our salads/soup arrived and then another 20 minutes for our main courses. It was no big deal as we had plenty of time. The menu offered quite a bit, clearly something for everyone. Once received, the food was delicious. The portions were plentiful and all the flavors on the dish complemented each other. I had the bacon-wrapped meatloaf and it was great. Everyone enjoyed what they had and the deserts were really good as well. We would certainly eat here again if we were in the area. Well worth a visit!

A great diner in Mission Hills, about 5 minutes drive away from San Diego airport. The best French Onion soup, and then the Short Rib dip sandwich was delicious! Served with a fresh salad, and house dressing. Family had thick tasty French Toast, and our 9yr old granddaughter enjoyed the Hangar steak salad - so easy to cut. On Monday, Jesus was the only server and he was very attentive, courteous, and served all with a smile. Seating available inside, or outside in front or in back. A definite treasure if you are in the area.

Do not hesitate to stop in and take a look at the menu of delightful Cuisine here at Jo's Diner! The menu is not extensive which I prefer in restaurants to not have too many choices :-) the meatloaf is over the top as well as the mac and cheese with braised short ribs! I also frequently get the omelette with vegetables and three cheeses. The French onion soup is also outstanding. In fact, I don't think I've had a dish here that I did not enjoy :-) I'm not a big burger fan but my friends have said that the burgers are very good as well! The service is attentive and there is a small parking lot behind the building so you don't have to Street park on most days. Give it a try! I'm here almost every Friday night :-) bon appetit!

At the intersection of Falcon St. and W. Washington in San Diego’s Mission Hills is Jo’s Diner. With plenty of well lit parking behind. The classic French Onion soup is a must. Even if you get the cup. Topped with the hot melted crust of cheese. The Fish and Chips is also a fantastic dish. Large delicate crunchy filets of battered fish on top of a mountain of thin crispy fries. All accompanied by the amazing house made fresh Cole slaw with slices of apple within. Don’t ask for tartar sauce. The fresh ginger lemon romulade for dipping is another creative touch to this gourmet dish. The service is also very personable. Where dining is a very comfortable experience.

This was a great choice. It has the vibe of a laid back coffee shop, but they also have amazing food. Our server was so nice and helpful!

We went to Jo’s Dinner since we are huge fans of Guy’s Fiery Triple D. All the options we tried were fantastic. Highly recommended.

I just had a salmon Benedict take out this morning and wanted to say how beautifully it was prepared. The hollandaise was in a separate container and so was the side salad. Everything was done to perfection. It was all so tasty.

Had a lovely dinner here with my family, something on the menu to please everyone and tasted great too. Really pleased with our choice

Simply amazing. The best Hollandaise sauce in the USA. Spinach and artichoke eggs Benedict exceeded expectations. We came for the short rib French dip and that too makes me not want to eat one anywhere else.. ever. We will be back, often.

Great little restaurant on Washington in the Hillcrest District. The owner was on location and the food was great! Not a lot of seating but you'll want to eat here.

Our breakfast here was completely satisfying. Excellent eggs benedict and breakfast potatoes. Good coffee. Friendly service.

Jo's is a contemporary-style American diner that's casual affordable. Variety on menu: Biscuits & Gravy to Wine-Braised Short Rib Benedicts to Applewwod Smoked Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf to diner style Milk Shakes. We enjoy the salmon, the meatloaf, fish & chips, and the milk shakes made in a traditional mixer. Good location, easy to find with parking in the back. Friendly staff. Recommend!

While visiting San Diego for a Marine Corps Boot Camp graduation, myself and 2 friends were wanting some breakfast options in the evening. We came to Jo's Diner. We each had an Omelet made with the ingredients we desired. They were all delicious & prepared perfectly. The Potatoes tasted good, but were a little over cooked. Our wonderful server was Amy. She was very polite, professional and just a Sweetheart. She took great care of our every need. She has a great knowledge of music. On her recommendation, we tried the Ice Cream with Strawberry Wine topping. It was great! Thank you Amy....

Great place for comfort food. Service is outstanding. BLT was very good. Bacon perfectly cooked. Brioche french toast is also good. Nice thick slices. Very cozy, neighborhood vibe. It's not noisy, so you can actually have a conversation and there is parking in the back!! Definitely adding this to my list for return visits.
Surprised in more ways than one.
I needed a restaurant in this neighborhood and reviews seems really positive. I had always assumed this was a breakfast joint but it looked cute at night. We didn’t know there was a happy hour but found multiple choices sounding delicious. Half our party arrived later and ordered from the dinner menu. We were all really impressed with the flavors and quality of all our dishes. Tots from hh menus w lots of bacon, green onions, sour cream and mildly spicy aioli were just the best. Brussels and the steak and onions were delicious and the burgers were fantastic. All the food was quick and hot. It’s the cozy inviting neighborhood spot that everyone wishes was in their town.
