Top notch dinner. Thanks Joshua.

By Susan H |

Top notch as always. Joshua made my birthday memorable. Loved the crab linguini. Havana dream for dessert. Thanks for a great night.

Eat at Joe’s!

By E.Z. Grace |

Every time we come to Chicago Joe’s is always on the top of our to do list. The atmosphere and ambiance is spectacular. The food and service is always top notch. As many times that we been there the experience has always met or exceeded expectations. The waiter tonight, originally from Texas, was spot on. Make reservations ahead of time but by all means make them, great place!

Best annversiary dinner

By TeamJohnsonTravelers |

It was our annversiary dinner and we had the best waiter and the food was outstanding. Best seabass!

Great Road Warrior Locotion - Solid Food, Cocktails, Amazing Ambiance and Fantastic Service

By Ian F |

If you are in business, solo and want a great place to eat with a step back in time atmosphere then hit Joe’s up. Food is excellent - I went off script with Fish & Chips but it was excellent! Very meaty buttery fish….chopped salad which I added bacon was one of the best and freshest tasting salads in months…a bread basket that is to die for (multiple breads - pretzel, onion, roll and raisin cinnamon toast)….but the best for a solo business traveler is a large bar with many high tops that you can sit, enjoy the surrounds listening to classic 40s/50s etc music (Frank/ Tony etc) and or pull out the laptop/iPad and do work. Service is excellent although I waited too long for my Old Fashioned (but it came with an apology and an offer to buy dessert - all I need is an acknowledgement as it can happen and 9pm this place was hopping)…..check it out Road Warriors! Also btw, I recall 3-4 TVs around the bar - decent views for sports regardless where you sitting…

Joes No Crab

By NOLA |

I got the crab bisque upon the recommendation of the server. There was at most a teaspoon of crab in it? There were multiple people at my table that ordered it and the same thing, essentially no crab. They advertise as a crab restaurant, so what gives? It also took one hour to get my No crab bisque. The oysters were also extremely small and not flavorful. All in all an very disappointing experience.

Portions down, prices up

By Concerned citizen |

Really good wait staff. Front desk reception staff have a bit of an attitude. Size of cocktails and desserts have been notably reduced, but not the prices. Overall experience is somewhat disappointing.

Watching the Host was a Show in itself! Better than The Bear!

By travelernottourist |

Have eaten at Joe’s in Vegas so was thrilled to see one right behind our hotel. It was packed when we first tried to get into happy hour so we came back a couple of hours later and managed a spot at a bar high top. Food as usual was excellent. I had crab stuffed shrimp which was tasty but the highlight was their table side Cole slaw! I’d go back just for that. Took a piece of peanut butter pie to go and omg…this was the BEST! Nibbled on that for 3 days it was so rich and decadent.

The Crab was amazing

By squinn13 |

The signature crab claws were amazing. The bar staff were also amazing. They recommended an alternate cause for the claws that was great

Perfect for a special occasion

By Sheila J |

Cooked to perfection and great quality. The seabass was really outstanding. Would definitely recommend reservations, even mid-week.

Perfect venue for a Celebration Dinner

By Joe M |

I came from out of state to celebrate my son's graduation. Joe's was perfect for the occasion. Making (and changing) reservations was easy. Staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. Service was excellent. We loved the atmosphere - perfect level of lighting, spacing of tables along with beautiful space. The food was excellent. The Colossal Lump Crab Cake was very good, if not colossal. We enjoyed the bone-in filet mignon and dover sole. The fried asparagus was good and summer sweet corn was stunning. This is an upscale place and worth the pricey menu.

Yummy stone crabs

By kct33 |

My wife has loved stone crabs since enjoying them in key west 8 years ago and they were just as gorgeous here

Excellent! A must go in Chicago!

By Priscilla L |

Excellent! Great ambiance, great food, spectacular service! We went there with our infant and toddler and they were very welcoming and attentive to our kids order. Would definitely recommend and will go back, looks pricey but it’s worth it!

Amazing dining experience

By kanikab |

Where can I begin? The highlight of the meal was truly the service. Denise was one of the best servers I’ve ever had anywhere. She was personable, made perfect recommendations and offered ideas and items not readily seen on the menu. I overheard her serving other tables and greeted each one with the same personalized excellence. The food was impeccable. I had the grilled seafood platter and the lobster, scallops and shrimp were grilled to perfection. Nothing overcooked, all flavors well-balanced. We usually do not order dessert but did so on Denise’s recommendation and the apple pie and peanut butter pie were both can’t-miss. They have a good bourbon list and their rocks pours are plentiful and well appointed with whatever accouterments you desire. It was a great dining experience.

Wowwww dining in Windy City

By Mickey C |

Have been in the restaurant industry for over 40 years and have coached and counciled my share of staff members, and been blessed to be able to eat out often. Dinner at Joe's ....one of the best dining experiences ever. Ben was our waiter and he was perfect… Intuitive, attentive and happy to take care of us and thoroughly loves what he does. What a rare dining experience. Sarah the sommelier on duty, took great care of us. She was extremely knowledgeable and made the evening uncomplicated because their wine offerings are immense. They have something for every taste and budget and she demystified and made the process very simple. Congrats on creating some great memories of our visit to Chicago.

Lovely

By jw6969 |

Lovely. Our welcome couldn’t have been better. A prime corner table (decent size) was given to us. Starters - crab claws from Florida. Beautiful. Sweet. Unbelievable expensive, but Mrs W was being looked after. Main of a little fillet steak and lobster tail was almost too much to eat. Had sides of sprouts and potatoes. Mix in a bottle of white, a bottle of red…..we had a long lazy Friday lunch, and wobbled out full and very happy. Service was 10/10.

A perfect steakhouse

By Roland H |

Excellent steaks and seafood. Server professional but very friendly. Extensive and interesting wine program; sommelier offered some suggestions. Great experience!

Excellent Service and Food!!

By IrishFan2014 |

Colleagues and I had dinner at Joe’s while we were in town for a trade show recently. The host was very nice and friendly! I had the Petite Filet and it was cooked perfectly! Others had Fish and Shrimp who also said their food was excellent! Also really enjoyed the Key Lime Pie! We had one of the best waiters I have ever had. His name is Daniel C. He was very professional and courteous!! When back in Chicago I will definitely be back! Highly recommended! Make sure you have a reservation definitely worth it!!!

Dinner

By 520bunny |

The manager was very disrespectful and arrogant. Our table was next to kitchen exit with staff running by non stop. When he stopped by to hear our complaints, he was cold and indifferent. I’m a friendly person and inadvertently put my hand out in his wrist and he defensively said if I touched him again he’d throw us out and call police. fYI. I’m a 60 year old calm woman……. Very weird experience for us. They have tables within inches of each other. Seems greedy in these times.

5 Star Restaurant - When You Want The Best!

By Bill T |

Yep - 5 stars! We had three out of town guests visiting and we suggested seafood near their hotel, which led us to Joe’s. We had been here a number of years ago and our daughter and her husband absolutely love Joe’s so it wasn’t a difficult choice. We reserved a table for 5 at 6 pm. There was a bit of a wait, but not a long one before we were taken to our table. Then the magic began! Everything was excellent from there forward. The service, the entrees, the desserts, and the wine were truly top shelf. We had: Fish and Chips - perfectly prepared with a large side of fries! Branzino prepared to perfection. An amazingly large order of Salmon Au Povire and a delicious Crab Stuffed Shrimp. Then we ended with dueling forks sharing Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Apple Pie, Boston Cream Pie, and a Key Lime Pie. It was a delightful experience made even more so by our server Mary P. So this is an excellent restaurant that we enthusiastically recommend to you. We know you’ll love it!

Put this on your bucket list

By SPT |

This place was bustling! I cannot say enough good things about the whole experience. The highlight was probably Ben our server. Impeccable service! If you’re ever in Chicago, reserve here - this is an absolute must!

The service provided was impeccable

By Frag |

The service provided was impeccable, and it added to the overall enjoyment of our dining experience. With such a positive and memorable visit, I can't wait to return to this restaurant again in the future. It's clear that they truly care about their customers and go the extra mile to make each visit exceptional.

Excellent! Dave, our waiter

By Kevin R |

Excellent! Dave, our waiter really knew his stuff, and had a great sense of humor when I would joke with him. Food was above and beyond, service was excellent, and the key lime pie was better than anything I’ve had in Florida! I highly endorse the fried asparagus, and cracked stone crab. Great atmosphere, too. It’s a Chicago Legend!

It’s the Culture of Service!

By Tom D |

My fourth visit to Joe’s did not disappoint! I’ve been to Joe’s D.C. twice and this was my second visit in Chicago. This fine dining establishment has a culture of service - front to back! It’s about their people. They take immaculate care of you. The food is always excellent. My New York strip was a perfect medium rare with a delicious crust. The rest of my party raved about their beef or seafood. The Key Lime pie is not to be missed! Our server, Chris, was a consummate professional in every way…and he was fun! Adding just the right banter and humor to the experience. I love Joe’s!

Excellent

By Mary H |

Excellent food and very friendly staff - especially our lovely waiter Sean Not cheap but worth it

Great Dining Experience!

By Lori S |

You know you had a great experience when you wake up the next day saying “That dinner last night was amazing!” But it wasn’t just the dinner itself, it was the whole experience start to finish. We were seated at a beautifully set table. Every person! Every single person that worked there was attentive, polite, and professional. Great service! Great experience! Great night! You will not be disappointed!!

Better than chains

By Linda P |

Recommended by locals, pheno.enal food, service and atmosphere. The steak and fish were excellent. Well worth the price!

I'd give SIX stars if I could

By brad120 |

We didn't know anything about this place when, exhausted, we walked into the first place we saw when we couldn't walk any more. We could not have felt more welcome. The service is impeccable and the food is fresh and spectacular.

Desert disappoints.

By Richard M |

First time back in many years. The main course lived up to our expectations, however when we received the key lime pie it was frozen which was not a happy way to complete and otherwise enjoyable visit.

Great meal in Chicago

By Jackinbama |

We had a great dinner at Joe’s before heading over to Winter’s Jazz club for a show. We shared a bottle of Nelms Road Cabernet Sauvignon that was great. They have a nice wine list. We shared the Shrimp de Jonghe appetizer which was excellent. Then we had soup. The wife having clam chowder and myself having the Crab Bisque. Bother were very good. We then shared their Prime Porterhouse cooked medium rare. This was excellent! Service and atmosphere were great.

An amazing and unforgettable experience!

By Pam M |

We each flew in from opposite sides of the country to meet in Chicago and went to Joes for multiple celebrations. It was a reunion of childhood best friends that have known each other for over 60 years and we celebrated a 65th birthday and a 36th wedding anniversary. From the time we walked in and were greeted by the host, we were treated like royalty. There was no rush to seat us and we enjoyed leisurely drinks at the bar. We were then escorted to the best booth in the house for dinner when we were ready. The food and service from our server Jesse were exceptional. From the cocktails to appetizers to main courses to the surprise celebratory desserts, each course was better than the next. Delicious food that we were too busy eating to take pictures of and each course had perfectly timed delivery. Thank you Jesse and the team at Joe’s! It was a truly unforgettable experience with unparalleled service and food.

TOP DRAWER STEAK & SEAFOOD

By Travel372667 |

Our family had a birthday dinner celebration here and had a wonderful time. Classic steakhouse vibe with servers in tuxes and bussers in aprons. Servers are professional and friendly (RPM Steak server take notice). Stone crab claws were amazing. The steaks were superb and cooked to perfection. One of us had the Dover sole and it was out of this world. My only gripe is that the slices of pie, while good, are way too small for 12 bucks (Gibson's are more expensive, but HUGE). The gold brick sundae, on the other hand was a great value and delicious. The pacing of the meal was perfect. Never felt rushed. Overall FIVE STARS.

Memorable dinner

By Mike H |

Superb dining experience. Great service, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Everything we had was excellent. Started with crab claws and calamari, both great. We had the aged bone in ribeye, sockeye salmon and crab stuffed prawns. All superb, steak in particular was memorable. Best side of Mac and cheese ever. Nice touch at the end with a complimentary key lime pie for first time diners. Great wine menu and cocktail. Memomable dinner

Another great meal at Joe's

By Patricia R |

A spur of the moment reservation had us dining on a weekday evening before attending a jazz performance. So happy we were seated at Josh's table. Super entertaining and excellent service. We always enjoy our evenings at Joe's, and this was no exception. A great dinner followed by an amazing dessert! Thanks to all for making our visit seems special even though there was no special occasion.

A little taste of Miami in the Windy City!

By PrpleAce |

I rarely get to downtown Chicago as much as I once did. Have not been to Miami in years but I was craving some Stone Crabs! Chicago to my rescue. I was thrilled to treat my family to this amazing seafood! The Stone Crabs were spot on great and converted the entire group into fans! Even had a chance to meet some local celebrities!

The best service in Chicago

By Adam J |

My favorite celebratory spot in Chicago. My girlfriend and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary and it was fantastic. Great service from the host and especially our server Sean. He helped us order and everything was a hit. We had the shrimp cocktail, oysters, 12 oz Filet, stone crab, fried asparagus, and the Jennies mashed potatoes. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice meal and experience.

Very good food. Very poor attitude

By cookhoneymoon |

The food was good. The table service was good. The man running the check in desk was unhelpful and unfriendly. Ruined our experience before we even sat down. Had 5:30 reservations and weren’t sat until 6:20. He keep saying “as soon as the table is available, we will call you”. No explanation, no offers for some bread or drinks for the kids. Monotone. Wouldn’t look us in the eye. Made it seem we were imposing on him for asking every 12-15 minutes. With so many restaurants, particularly great steak and seafood ones, this place is an absolute skip. Don’t bother.

Still a great restaurant

By Trollman |

Well since I grew up eating at Joe’s in Miami Beach I am somewhat jaded as there is no other Joe’s for me other than Miami Beach. That being said this is a great steak house with stone crabs on the side. The service from the maitre d to the server were great the food was excellent and i like its location so do give this restaurant a try and go there.

This place sucks

By tw__100043323 |

A place that needs to try and associate itself with Joes Stone Crab in Miami is pitiful. Went there with a group and prob dropped 4k. The food wasn't bad, but the service was awful. Bunch of entitled wait staff that thought they were better than the customers. Not worth it. The scene is not that great to suffer from being treated poorly by the people that are supposed to be serving you!

Ok - over priced for what it is

By perky88 |

Dined here whilst in Chicago Nice setting, server friendly and food was ok Stopped short of giving it 5* as I mentioned above food was Ok - nothing special and didn’t match the prices $73 for 3 lamb chops … they were not worth that

Favorite place

By Bridgekris987 |

My favorite restaurant in Chicago! The service is top notch. Food was delivered warm, flavor of all was excellent! I got a birthday brownie “on the house.”

Ask for the barman called “Stats”.

By Dune S |

Spent a fantastic late Saturday Afternoon / Early Evening sitting at the bar, sheltering from a storm outside. If you can be served by the barman called “Stats” then you will not be disappointed. Enjoyed the crab claws and the G&T of the season. Also had great conversations with the people to the left and right also sitting at the bar. Overall a great atmosphere.

Best steak I ever had

By Cristina F |

It is a seafood restaurant, but I was craving steak and this restaurant did not disappoint. Amazing meat, great service, very sophisticated atmosphere. After the marathon, we decided to have a nice celebration, and Joe’s did not disappoint . Highly recommend.

Prices have gone up drastically; food not as good

By Moi123 |

Before COVID this place was a gem … things have changed and not for better . For one the prices have gone up through the roof ! Ridiculously expensive!! Then the food is not what it used to be . My favorite crab cakes are now coated with so much grease ! They used to be oven broiled and so delicately fluffy . Then the cottage fries , another favorite side , are now very greasy . The oil is definitely different , taste more like duck fat . Anyway we tried it a few times in the last few months ; thinking it was just a temporary phase . Unfortunately it seems this is the way it is going to be… After many years of great dining , we decided stop going .

Yummy crab!

By Conni b |

Best king crab I’ve had in awhile. Top notch service as well. The hash browns were the best I’ve had in years. Can’t wait to go back .

About As Perfect A Restaurant As You Will Find

By ElaineAndGreg |

I hate reviews where people try to rate something as a 10/5 or some other impossible rating, but Joe's tests that premise. If I were to try to train someone to run or even work in an excellent restaurant, I would probably take them here. Joe's in Chicago is a nearly perfect restaurant. The setting is classy, but somehow still inviting. The service is impeccable, with male and female servers in jackets and bow ties and the ideal mix of the friendly and formal. The restaurant is fairly large and expensive, but was somehow packed on a Sunday evening. Joe's signature special is crab claws with mustard sauce, which is indeed delicious, but everything on the menu is great. We went largely with seafood options and all were wonderful. Many rave about the steak, but we did not try it on this visit. We had a range of specials and standard menu items, and all were perfectly prepared. I've mentioned the service, but it is a step above almost any you have ever seen. The wait staff are almost advocates to get you the best meal of your life. They make great recommendations and then make them happen. They are endlessly attentive. They make them like you. They know the menu cold. I said above that this restaurant is nearly perfect, and the one drawback, if you want to call it that, is cost. I would happily, and hope to, incur it again for an experience of this quality. Joe's is indeed expensive - a splurge location - but one well worth it. Come here.

Great

This place was amazing .The food was very good and the service was exceptional .Prices are average. Is very well located .The waiter was nice and friendly .we definitely came back soon.

Lovely Establishment

By Luke |

Fancy establishment with incredible food. My son Cletus found this place on the World Wide Web and said we just had to check it out because his lazy excuse of a mother won’t let him eat seafood. Lobster is my favorite so I couldn’t turn down this place!! Absolutely mouthwatering lobster. Cletus got himself fish and chips and absolutely loved it he even said “thanks for treating me so well papa mom and her loser boyfriend never take me out for dinner” I’m just glad he got to enjoy such a great atmosphere here at Joe’s!! The staff here is amazing they all do such a tremendous job! We ended the night with some dessert and boy oh boy you should’ve seen the look on Cletus face when that apple pie had arrived he was so thrilled and it was so delicious….yum yum yum! Can’t wait until we’re back in town so we can come back here to fine dine!

Good for more than Stone Crab!

By The.Lady.Explorer 🌍🌺🤿 |

I had not been here in almost 10 years and boy it still did not disappoint. I have never been to a seafood restaurant for fried chicken but I went with friends who swore by Joe’s fried chicken. LOL So I figured, hey why not! Our Server Jodette was amazing! She knew her stuff, had excellent recommendations. We had the sea bass, branzino and brussel sprouts in addition to the famous friend chicken and the rosé and sauvignon by the glass were delightful. Jodette had a good sense of humor and a lot of patience with our group and her recommendations did not disappoint. I think this is a good spot for business dinners, couples and friends. Highly recommend.

Seafood

By kafioxin |

Having visited the corresponding store in Miami years ago we went. We started with 2 soups, the crab was excellent, what we highly recommend. We continued with lobster and shrimp ceviche which was also excellent. We also got 2 Madagascar prawns, perfectly cooked. We finished with large crab legs which were delicious. We finished with sweet lime and coconut pie. Service excellent.

Nice dinner

By ajr |

A very classic ambiance. Oysters on the shell were ok (both kinds were fresh but we've had much better ones both on the East Coast and the West Coast), but the stone crabs were great, which went perfectly with the rose champagne. The grilled seafood platter was nice but ordinary. The service, however, is exceptional.

Phenomenal service & food!

By Joanna S |

We stopped in based on other reviews. We had impeccable service and delicious food! We wanted a less formal meal & were able to sit in the bar area. Gosia, our waitress, was attentive; very friendly and accommodating. I had the stuffed shrimp & my husband had filet Oscar. Both meals were perfectly cooked & the appropriate serving size. Overall, this was an incredible dinner!

Great Service and Delicious Food

By louisy596 |

Our waitress, Mary was excellent! She made recommendations on how to pair items on the menu. The atmosphere was intimate enough to enjoy your meal and company without distractions from other patrons. The cocktails and food did not lack in taste or presentation. We will visit again.

Birthday Weekend! Sooo Good!

By Movee |

The the food was great! I had oysters, wedge salad, and grilled seafood. Naomi, my server was wonderful. Upon entry, I was greeted by the concierge and they wished me Happy Birthday! The only problem was the children from a large group that was running around the restaurant and up and down the stairs. The parents did not stop them. Workers had to repeatedly stop them from running and escort them back to their table. The yelling, running, and coming up to other tables, took away from the ambiance of this beautiful restaurant. I was so afraid that one of them could have fell while running up and down the stairs. I truly recommend this restaurant and hope that families better supervise their children.

More than just stone crab

By Taylor B |

Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab restaurant in Chicago is famous for its Florida stone crab. So what if you don't like stone crab? Well, Joe's also features an abundance of sweet tasting seafood that keeps me coming back for more. Located at 60 East Grand Avenue, at Grand and Rush, in the Shops at North Bridge, a block west of the Magnificent Mile, in the bustling River North neighborhood, Joe's is a result of a partnership between the Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You empire and Joe's Stone Crab, a legendary seafood restaurant in Miami Beach, Florida. Joe's also has locations in Las Vegas and Washington DC. Open from 11:30 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 11:30 to 10 on Friday and Saturday and 11 to 9 on Sunday, the menu also includes such popular items as Alaskan King Crab Legs, Key Lime pie, Dover Sole and Oysters Rockefeller. All of which is highlighted by lavish surroundings. I started with a bowl of Manhattan claim chowder, a jumbo shrimp cocktail and a Caesar salad with Romaine lettuce, parmesan, croutons and creamy Caesar dressing. For my entree, I chose the house's pan sauteed Branzino with baked potato and blistered green beans. I always choose Branzino, a delicious and meaty Mediterranean sea bass that I've come to love, when it is on the menu. Next time I'll opt for Dover Sole with brown butter sauce. For dessert, what else? The house specialty, key lime pie with graham cracker crust and whipped cream, is a no-brainer.

Choose wisely from the menu.

By Hedin |

PROs: Iconic, preserved heritage look, excellent service. CONs: check in experience was unpleasant (feeling like cattles walked on the stockyard); my impression is that your experience varys significantly if you choose poorly from the menu (go for the crab experience and avoid the meal-samplers which are not fit to this level of restaurant). Pricey. Conclusion: it is a must-see but I would suggest coming only for the high end menu options.

Fantastic place to go

By Tomomi |

I fell in love with Key lime pie. Food is just great and service is far beyond the star. When I go back to Chicago, I would definately go back. Better to make a reservation, though I did not.

BEST SEAFOOD IN CHICAGO

The food, the incredible service, the ambience, the old world elegance, the wine list and refreshing martinis! All around a great experience!

Great food, great service at bar and table, indifferent welcome

By cmasb |

We last visited in 2019 on a whim. It was so good, we decided to plan to visit this time. However, while the food and service (shout-outs to Andres and Gustavo) were very good, we felt less than warmly welcomed by the reception staff. Don’t know what we did wrong, but people who arrived after us were shown to a table before us. We were told to go to the bar if we wanted a drink. The bar staff were great and friendly. The drinks were good, but we had to pay for them separately and then wait for our table. Ok, we arrived a few minutes early, but their website says they keep tables for only 15 minutes. Their excuse was that they were seating (at 1230) people who arrived late for a 1200 booking. We did not believe them. In our experience, don’t expect to be treated fairly or equitably here when you arrive, but when you are allowed to take your reserved table, chances are that you will be welcomed and valued by the dining room people. Also, this time we booked a table at 12:30. Earlier than our last booking. Maybe your chances of being being treated well as a tourist are to book after about 1:30 when their peak lunch is waning.

Excellent

Food was great for my birthday with my family. Denise was our waitress and remembered our names and we had a blast with her. Thanks for the great time!

Outstanding

By doron |

The restaurant is quite and pleasant . We had the roasted cauliflower, clam chowder , sole, crab stuffed shrimps and an apple pie. All were superb. Of special note is the service , the best I experienced in a long time. Professional, attentive and very helpful. Don’t miss.

Excellent food-don’t miss out: make reservations!

By Marta H |

5 out of 5. We were lucky to grab a bar table on a busy Friday night with no reservations. The drink menus is unique but standards drinks were made well too. Amy was our waitress and she couldn’t have been more friendly ~ especially considering how busy it was. We just had filets and broccolini- all cooked to perfection! The atmosphere was “hopping” but we were able to have good conversations since we were off to the side. We happened to stumble across this seafood and steakhouse. It is “pricey” but everything was excellent. I ended up Buying two of their “Joe’s” salt tubs for Christmas presents which ink w will Be enjoyed! Thanks Amy! You made our evening fabulous !

Excellent place. ROY STANLEY II most rude person i met

By Marcelo G |

We came to this restaurant on saturday 11 may and everything was wonderful. Service and food quality was 10/10. We came today 13 may on our last night in chicago to repeat the experience. We called by phone, a lady answered and told us to go that there was plenty of space in the dining room. We arrived there and we met a really disgusting person named ROY STANLEY II. He told us we were not able to eat at the dining room (eventhough there was plenty of space) because we didn't have a reservation. Then MARISSA WYANT (probably the same lady that answered the phone when we called) came and she also said we couldn't have dinner in the dining room. Its really a negligence for a restaurant of this category to have a manager and a maitre so disrespectful. They ruin all the effort that their colleges do in the dining room and in the kitchen. And to finish one of the worse experiences we had at the door of a restaurants in all our lives a security lady came to push us by force to the exit door. I wish some important authority of this excellent restaurant reads this to do something about this horrible situation

Superb restaurant experience

By WandaSnow |

Excellent service both in the bar area and restaurant. The decor is quintessentially old school American. Tip-top service is friendly, professional and informative. Food does not disappoint either - superb steak and seafood perfectly cooked. Juicy, delicious food accompanied by quality wines.

Perfect

By Brukar |

We had oysters, chop salad, lobster bisque, mahi-mahi, and another fish dish which were all excellent. Service by Danny coil was outstanding. They really know how to do it in this restaurant. Not cheap but worth it every once in a while.

Could have been better for the prices

By palmspringsjps |

This is a bit of a mixed review, but here goes. We went on Christmas Eve, and were promptly seated as we did have a reservation. The place was fairly busy, and a bit hectic for me though. Our server was very nice and quite knowledgeable about the menu. We both ordered shrimp cocktails, which were very good. The shrimp were very big, fresh, and cold. The presentation was a bit average though. The bread that was served was a bit odd, and not particularly good. I ordered the fried chicken, as I was told it was very special. It was not! (My bad for ordering fried chicken in a seafood restaurant I guess). It was four pieces of bone in chicken on a plate. No garnish....nothing to make it look special. Again, poor presentation for an upscale restaurant. Anyway, the chicken was fried nicely, but bland as bland could be. It had no seasoning whatsoever, and really needed some. In addition, one piece was a bit chewy, and the oddly shaped breast piece was overdone, tough, and very dry. It was definitely not worth $28. My companion ordered the crab cakes, which he said were really good, and loaded with crab meat. Again though, the presentation was uninspired. We also ordered a side of onion straws, which were fried nicely, but needed some sort of seasoning to make them special. For desert, we had key lime pie and raspberry sorbet, both of which were quite nice. As a side note on service, one employee continually tried to remove items from our table, sometimes before we were done with them. My companion finished his entire considerably before I did, and this same employee removed his plate, cutlery, etc, while I was still eating. This is a big No No in my book. Overall, we could be convinced to go back, but would not be in a hurry to do so. I think they need to do better to make this place worth the high prices.

We flew into Chicago for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Joe’s is right across the street from the Marriott where we are staying. But we did not have a reservation so we did not think we could get a table. But we were able to walk right in a get a table in the bar area which was perfect. This is a prime steak house and it did not disappoint . We had a wonderful server and she did a great job. We had Seabass and halibut along with Cobb salad calamari for appetizer. And some drinks. It was a fine dining experience.

Chicago!

By Stefano D |

Chicago!! Best place for Stone Crab. Every time I go to Chicago it is the restaurant to visit. I like the food and the location

Expensive and worth it

By GalvestonJT |

We just finished a fine dinner at Joe's. My thoughts are: expensive and excellent quality. 1. Our waiter Jennifer was a real pro. Friendly and helpful. She guided us to the best items to order for our tastes. A+. 2. The food was really good. My Dover sole was perfection. It was served/de-boned table side and we loved the sole. Great sauce. My wife's bass in miso was excellent. The crab cakes were good although a bit over stuffed with filling. The veggies were great. Fries perfectly cooked - per my request. 3. The place was bustling on a Monday holiday night, but food arrived quickly. These folks are geared for greatness. Service - excellent. All things considered: I will be back and can recommend.

Joe's Chicago very Disappointing

By Robert R |

We visited Joe's during Happy Hour, but our experience was extremely disappointing. The server went to every table except ours — even returning to tables that had already been seated and served. Several parties who arrived after us received immediate attention, while we continued to wait. After sitting patiently for 15 minutes, the final straw was watching the server assist a table that was seated well after we were. We will not be returning to this establishment. I’m not outright calling the staff racist, but there was a noticeable pattern in who received service and who did not.

Best local atmosphere

By Valeria Jessica Calderon B. |

The restaurant full. We were lucky to get a table. The complementary vegetables were spectacular. The waiters were very friendly, especially Mesías.

Couldn’t be any better

By The_Lankan |

My wife and daughter went for dinner in August of 2021. Trip advisor always has this place rated between 1 and 3 out of 5,000+ restaurants in Chicago so I’d have to say our expectations were very high. It also had $$$$ on trip advisor so I was expecting it to be expensive. We started out ordering a crab bisque for each of us. We wanted to share the entrees so we ordered a Caesar salad, the seafood platter, an 8oz fillet, Jennies mashed potatoes and an order of crab cakes. Our server was Dave and he was great. He even requested they slice the fillet up since he knew we were sharing it. He had a great attitude and was really friendly. I cannot think of a single thing to complain about, everything was perfect. This place exceeded our expectations and it was fairly expensive for 3 of us the bill was $194 without the tip and I tipped well because Dave deserved it. We will go back again some day.

Extra special place

By Maysmosaics |

Fabulous food and service! We ordered the signature salad and we both had a grilled seafood platter. It was wonderful as always. Worth every penny. Beautiful ambience as well.

Best in town

By lucycan |

This restaurant really is the best in town. The service is top notch. The food is second to none. The stone crab claws are to DIE for! The steak, lobster, fish is all amazing. All around a special night every time we go!

Never come to Chicago without a visit to Joes!

Never come to Chicago without a visit to Joes! Love that place and the people who work there! Special shout out to Eric Schuster the Maitre’d. Always finds a way to make a visit special!

The food was very goooood and fresh! I truly recomand this place! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fish and chips was very pleasant for my daughter and the soup was very tasty!

High quality seafood with impeccable service

By Adventure747160 |

Absolutely delicious fresh seafood combined with fantastic service - we had the chance to have a wonderful waitress who not only shared history of the place but also had a deep knowledge of seafood. Fantastic lunch. Will return

Everything very good,but....

By Nuccio77 |

...two little black spots ! Let's start with the good things. Food is gorgeous, beautyfully served and prepared to the best, with huge variety of plates and the famous crabs to be the top. Nice selection of wines and drinks that go along with all the possible services and conforts you could ask for. Now the two black spots(just spots,no more than that) We were on a business meeting and our waiter, very professional and kind, a little careless of the situation kept ansking things too often, not caring of a couple of subliminal messages sent to her,so just keep an eye on customers' behaviour in future...it will help. Second spot will be pricing. I do understand that upscaled services have their cost, but I think that what they ask for a meal could be slightly(please read well...slightly meaning around a 10% less,no more)less that what paid. But I do recomand the place if you want to have a quiet evening with your friends eating marvellous food

Not good experience

By Corcoran R |

Our service man is rush and inpatient when my baby drop fork twice, he just come over pick it up and put on table kind madly immediately she drop the fork… what’s more he always come to tidy the table when we are eating, we feel being disturbed very much. Environment is dark and super crowded. Food is ok, 7.5!

Excellent restaurant with great service.

By MEBesq |

Everything we had was delicious. I highly recommend the crab bisque We split a salad and it more than enough for two.

Excellent food, terrible cocktails

By mary s |

Four of us had dinner at Joes. We had octopus appetizer, 3 sides: potatoes lyonnaise, broccolini, fried asparagus, and we each had a different seafood entree. The asparagus was just ok, everything else was outstanding. 3 of us had cocktails and one had wine. We are not big drinkers, but the cocktails were massively disappointing. They were very very weak, like the bartender forgot to add the alcohol. We each had a dessert. They were very good, but they were huge. We should have ordered 2 and shared. Overall, a very nice experience, but we will go elsewhere for our drinks.

V nice

By Engbandh |

Service was excellent and attentive. Steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. All sides tasty. Restaurant v busy on a Weds night.

My favourite restaurant in the US

By Nano N |

We love the restaurant they have in Miami. The food is exactly as good as in Miami and the atmosphere was also amazing. Best crab (with moustard) in the world, best fried chicken in the globe and best lemon pie in the world. Recommend to anyone and will come back whenever possible.

Sunday lunch in Chicago.

Excellent service, very good and sought-after food. Reasonable prices for the quantity and quality of the dishes. I happily recommend it. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

A must try location!

Top Two Steakhouses in Chicago!

By Jim2344 |

Went there today for lunch with my niece. Both the food and the service were exceptional! We enjoyed the fillet steak sandwich, the lobster macaroni and cheese, and the chop salad. We also had the Key lime pie for dessert. Everything was prepared perfectly! Definitely a can’t miss place in Chicago!

Great food, always full, but a little pricey..

By Matheus P |

Very good restaurant and always full. The food is very good, the meat was cooked just right and the crab broth was delicious. If you go, try to book in advance as the chance of having a table is low.

A classic but unfortunately not enough on that evening...

By purep |

Too many tables that are too close together. The waiters hardly come by. The noise level was very high. And my fillet mignon wasn't good. My proposal would be fewer tables and more attention to quality.

Crab bisque and John Dory, oh my!

By NewPlaceFan |

Of the food we ordered, the crab bisque was the most amazing, as well as the special John Dory fish. The John Dory is one of the two best fish dishes I have ever had. We had the crab claws, which are their specialty, but they are a lot of work to eat even tho they are pre-cracked. My son enjoyed the oysters very much, and the beef wellington was quite tasty. We had to save room for the key lime pie, but we also tried the brownie dessert (birthday treat) and the sweet potato/pecan pie. Nice bottle of riesling to go with it. The service was excellent; they even offer hot, wet towels to wash your hands between the appetizers and the main dish. Very upscale fine dining. Be sure you are prepared for the price!

Perfect

By Tuscany3423 |

Joe’s just does it right. The food is always spot on - start with stone crab which you cannot explain how amazing it is, great selections for main courses, and finally the pie! Some of the best pie you will find. Drinks also great - espresso martini was a huge hit. Definitely costly but worth it!

A seafood feast

By alohare |

Joe’s is a must if you are visiting Chicago and love seafood. We shared oysters on the half shell and an order of the large crab claws. Absolutely delicious. I had visited once several years ago and the Crab Louis salad was as good as I remembered. Something about the dressing makes it unique. The service was first class a well.

Best steak in town , Thank you very much to Miguel and Lami Looking forward to seeing you soon All the best

Don’t miss this place.

By Mharrity1263 |

The stone crabs and the king crab was as good as I’ve ever had. The crab cake all crab meat no filler, the wedge salad amazing also. I must say our waiter Ben was one of the best I’ve ever experienced. In fact I’d hire him in a second. Excellent knowledge and hospitality.

Board Dinner in the Boardroom at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab

By johninwright |

Pre-fixed menu with three choices for entree and two choices for dessert. Simply outstanding service by the waitstaff with wonderful hospitality. Every course was outstanding, as was the company of people!

Phenomenal Experience

By Shawn L |

Absolutely the best dining experience we have had in our years. From start to finish every member of the staff made us feel welcomed and that our night was going to be special Host - welcoming and inviting. Classy staging / bar area Server - (Shout out to ROB!) - Knowledgeable about the menu and had the timing down for when to deliver our appetizers, entrees, drinks, and dessert. Food - Oysters were top notch. Had the chef's special and it was a delight. Seafood grilled trio was amazing . Sides were plentiful for two and had exquisite taste. Atmosphere - Music that meets the expectation and sets the mood. Lighting and ambience were on par with the A+++++ experience Overall I can't say enough positives. If you are visiting or a resident nearby, this is a MUST visit

World class fine dining in a neighborhood feel restaurant

By Herb I |

The place where “popular neighborhood restaurant” and “world class dining” meet. The restaurant is a “sister restaurant” to Joe’s in Miami. The Filet mignon is amazing, and the tuna filet mignon is melt in your mouth good. Key lime pie or peppermint ice cream finishes your meal. The service is attentive and friendly. Not inexpensive but worth the money.

AMAZING

By Maha A |

This place was outstanding!! The costumer service was excellent!! The atmosphere was spectacular!! The food was a 10/10 I would recommend place to any one in the world!!!

Supremely good

Amazing Experience, The Highlight of Our Chicago Trip.

By iamstoked22 |

This was an amazing experience from start to finish. We arrived and were seated immediately. Denice, our server was at our table immediately. She was so friendly and pleasant and made us feel at home. We ordered a bottle of Sancerre as we knew we were having all seafood tonight. Our server assistant brought us bread and butter and water. Denice brought our wine and chatted to us and asked our names. She addressed us by name all night. We ordered Ahi Carpaccio, Caesar Salad and an order of large Stone Crab. The food arrived in perfect succession and everything was amazing. Denice stopped by every few minutes to check on us. When we told Denice we were done, she said she had a treat for us. She proceeded to bring us a piece if Key Lime Pie which was delicious. This was a perfect evening in large part due to Denice. She really made our trip to Chicago special. Having been in the F&B business running restaurants and clubs, I have rarely witnessed someone with Denice’s sincere affability and skill level. What an asset to Joe’s she is.

Worth the price!

By ShaunnaB |

Incredible food and service. We loved everything we ordered because it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The crab cake was almost pure crab meat - no filler. Free dessert for the birthdays we were celebrating. Amazing experience

Excellent Food and service. You will leave happy and satiated due to the food, the ambience and area.

It was a real treat.

Made reservations in advance and glad that we did. Service and food were both excellent. It was very crowded and we were there on a Thursday night. Don't try to go without a reservation.

Delicious Seafood Platter

By Luke |

Always a pleasure coming to this fine establishment. The staff is always so classy and professional. The food is mouthwatering. Lastly I can’t forget about the great atmosphere. Always a treat stopping here! Can’t wait to come back!!!

Wonderful Environment & Friendly Staff

By Liv S |

Wonderful dinner spot! It gave off old-money vibes. The waitstaff was very friendly and accomodating! The only downside is they don't have an area to sit/ stand while waiting for a table. You just have to scatter amongst people's tables near the bar. The lobster mac-n-cheese was wonderful!

80th Birthday Celebration

By Thomas B |

Had 18 family members celebrating my 80th birthday at Joe’s on July 26 in their mezzanine area. Jeff, our server and Elias, bus man and assistant, were outstanding. Very professional, efficient and helpful service all night coupled with the absolutely outstanding food made the evening most memorable. Oh yeah, the arrangements overseen by Matt in their special events department were flawless. I can’t say enough about this place, one of the truly top shelf restaurants in Chicago. Kudos!!!

High touch with good not great food

By LThomas1301 |

Returned to an old favorite after many years not returning. Still busy as ever with a wait of at least 15 min with a reservation. That’s a bit annoying. Every visit for us there’s a wait. For the price and level of service that taints the experience. Excellent service. Once seated, staff is very attentive and responsive. Glasses don’t pass half full before a refill. Sommelier is very good and knowledgeable. Food was very good not great. Shared bone in rib eye, fried green tomatoes, lobster ceviche, hash browns and special huckleberry dessert. All very good no standouts. We recently visited another high end steakhouse and the other was notably better. Considering wait, crowds and good, not great food this may the last visit for another few years.

Perfect Birthday Dinner Experience

By Mtzk316 |

We celebrated my wife’s birthday with a wonderful dining experience in Chicago. Although we arrived 12 minutes late, the host graciously worked us in and seated us in a cozy corner booth, which set the stage for an intimate evening. Our server, Lamar, was outstanding—knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about his service. He answered our questions with care and made me feel comfortable ordering chicken at a steak and seafood restaurant. My wife enjoyed the Chilean sea bass, while I had the fried chicken. Both dishes were exceptionally well-seasoned and delicious, with portions generous enough that I couldn’t finish all of my entrée. We shared broccolini and mashed potatoes on the side, which complemented the meal perfectly. For dessert, my wife had the key lime pie, and I chose the Havana Tres Leches pie—both were flavorful and satisfying. Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking fine dining in Chicago, especially for a special occasion.

Too expensive

By enzik2019 |

a perfect place for a dinner with friends, perfect hors d'oeuvres scampi and top crabs, unfortunately the meat, despite being in the United States is not worth the amount they ask. very kind waiters, good wine. unfortunately 500 € for a dinner with three people is excessive.

A Great (but loud) experience......

By Irishdoc1 |

To finish off my Chicago business trip, I decided to hit Joe's for some seafood and steak.....My fond memories of Joe's in Miami Beach were still on my mind and decided to check out Joe's here in Chicago. The overall set-up, layout and base ambiance is wonderful and what I would expect from Joe's...The food was excellent, I started with the Caesar Salad which was very delicious. From there I had the Whale (which consists of a shellfish sampler of shrimp, stone crab claw, petite lobster tail and king crab claw (smaller), the quality was top-notch and for $42, also a good value and I was quite pleased with it. I then had the 12-ounce filet and it was a tender, juicy cut and melted in my mouth. I finished off the evening with a chocolate fudge pie and it was amazing, the ganache, mousse, whipped cream and hot fudge was over-the-top. The service was also impeccable and overall this would have gotten an overall excellent rating, except, it was young kids night, all around us and it got so loud and distracting and even a bit disturbing to the dining experience, that I just could not give it an overall excellent. I would come back here and would hope that perhaps there is not a young child section, who are yelling, playing electronics loudly, etc...otherwise hats off to Joe's, a great dining experience (otherwise).

Cuddle in Chicago

By MarikaComina |

We had dinner at all Joe's Seafood restaurants around the USA but in this one in Chicago we really felt pampered. The staff took care to offer us dessert only because the wait for us to sit at the table was a little longer than expected. My favorite dish is definitely grilled fish: really good! If you are in the area book a table and you will not regret it!

Great food........great atmosphere

By monty |

We were celebrating my brother's 50th anniversary. Mary was our server. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and had a GREAT sense of humor. She really helped us enjoy the experience.

A perfect experience!

By Matt W |

An amazing birthday experience! What a fantastic way to spend my birthday. Shawn, our maitre'd was simply fantastic. Every recommendation he had was spot on, from the Prime Rib to the Beef Wellington, and Crab Bisque, my wife and my dining experience was perfection. To top it off, he brought out two slices of their famous pies on the house for my birthday. Wonderful. This was our first trip to the Chicago Joe's as we've frequented the location in D.C., but we will definitely be back soon. Thanks, Shawn (and Joe's) for a memorable birthday!

A typical business restaurant after the show. It's not great quality. The atmosphere is somewhat noisy

By EDUARDO G |

The food was uneven in relation to cost-benefit, the oysters quite nice but soulless, I could not find anything beyond a simple oyster, the mushrooms of the side dish, quite normal without penalty or glory, the wine was pleasant, however the glasses were somewhat dirty, it was noticeable on the walls of each glass, in short, a rather boring menu, as I said, the restaurant is typical of business, although it is quite complicated by the noise level.

to try...

By RRforty2 |

A typically American place and as such worth a try. We had dinner and found the Chopper Steak and Calamari adequate. The Californian wines are in line with the Italian ones at Eataly. Interesting is the bill which at the footer indicates the gratuity ranges in percentage and in dollars, already calculated on the basis of how much spent.

Great Experience

By egwanderlust |

Joe's is the perfect place to celebrate any occasion! From the moment you enter, you are treated like royalty. The booth seats are very comfortable and intimate. Our server was attentive and kept the conversation flowing. The wine & cocktail menu was impressive. The Old Fashioned and the Hemingway Daiquiri were flavorful and blended perfectly. As for the food menu - I wish we had bigger stomachs to enjoy more of their offerings. The shrimp cocktail included four delectable jumbo shrimp - perfect for two people. As for our entrees - both the ahi tuna steak and petite filet mignon were seared to perfection and melt-in-your-mouth tender! The star of the show is Jennie's mashed potatoes! I wish I could make potatoes taste that creamy and flavorsome. Thank you to the staff for making our experience an enjoyable one.

Great tasty seabass!

By Sleeper22 |

Wonderful seabass and sprouts. Decided to eat heathy this visit. seasoning on seabass was awesome and portion was large. Great atmosphere. Asked for a booth on reserving our time and was given a great one that was large

GOOD SEAFOOD BUT $$$$

WELL, YOU EAT WELL AND A LOT OF IT, BUT ONLY GO IF YOU LOVE SEAFOOD BECAUSE THE PRICE IS VERY HIGH, BUT THE FOOD IS GOOD

Great Food and Service!

By Vincent D |

Wonderful dinner at Joe's - great food and even better service! Fine dining at its best! The salmon and ribeye steak we had were cooked perfectly. Leave room for the peppermint ice cream dessert....

Really nice seafood and steaks

By Me Anywhere |

Really nice place for dinner. Food is amazing. That's why this place is always packed even during weeks days. Petit filet mignon is so good as a main course. I didn't have a reservation but they got me a good table at the entrance. Good enough for myself.

Amazing

By Stanislav L |

First time back in well over a decade and they have not missed a beat. Still one of the absolute best steak houses in the country. Spent nearly two hours under the expert and perfect attention of Michelle C. The food was excellent. The desserts were excellent. The service was excellent. The price was reasonable for a high end steak house. Extremely highly recommended. A must do if you are in Chicago. When we go back, and we will, Michelle is going to be a must-have. Can't rave about her enough.

Good Dinner

By scootercus |

We walked in on a late Sunday afternoon and sat in the bar area which has eight high tops. The stone crab was $80 for the select. Very good quality. Our entrees were well prepared and the service was very good. We were a little hesitant to come here because we have been to their Las Vegas location a few years ago which was not very good food or service wise. This location did not disappoint.

Joes crab ain’t what it’s cracked up to be

By NOLA |

Excellent service, but the food is nothing but average. The best thing on the menu was the hash browns. Does that say anything? The food had very little flavor. With all the good to great choices in Chicago, why would you waste your time and money here?

#1 in. Chicago

By Vicente H |

Friendly and professional treatment. Particularly well prepared appetizer at the bar, followed by a pleasant meal consisting of a seafood combo followed by an incredibly good porterhouse. To repeat. Congratulations.

Lunch at Joe's

By Irina |

Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab (aka Joe's) is an upscale restaurant, located on the corner of Grand Avenue and Rush Street, across from Nordstrom in downtown Chicago. The menu is vast and offers all types of meals, reflected in the name of the restaurant. I came to this restaurant fairly late, when the lunch hour was almost over, but I was comfortably seated at a nice table, ordered a Classic Cheeseburger with Fries, and a glass of beer. Apparently, one can order a burger custom-made, and without a bun, and this is what I did. The burger was excellent: cooked to order, with all the ingredients being very tasty. The service was very hospitable, friendly -- in fact, it was exemplary, the prices were fairly high, as expected (total of $32.33, including the tax and restaurant surcharge), but it was a very high-quality meal, which I enjoyed very much. The restaurant was recommended to me a while ago by a friend of mine, who was finishing her lunch , when I came in the restaurant (we didn't plan to meet, though :) -- so we had a brief talk, both were very busy that day -- she had to leave, I finished my meal, briefly talked to servers and management, paid the bill and thanked the staff for their excellent service. I will definitely be back to this restaurant again, and try their seafood. Thank you for warm hospitality and friendly service!

Don’t order take out.

By Dettkno |

Dined in person on 9/11 and it was a fantastic experience. Decided to order take out on 9/12. $75 for a past and desert. No utensils provided. No bread even though it’s provided if you dine-in. Food ready 15 early so it was cold by the time we got it.

Possible Disappointment Becomes Opportunity For Excellence

By TReiman |

Joes has been a favorite since way back when they were only in Miami. My wife and I were there the first week they opened in Chicago. That night they were 15 minutes past our reservation seating us, and, to our surprise, the Manager came to the table to apologize, and comped our drinks. Since then it is our “go to place” for special occasions and we eat there 2-3 times a year. Sat. Night we went for my birthday. We were not seated until 8:20 for an 8:00 reservation. I mentioned to the Maitre d’ that it was the first time we had been seated late since that opening week and what the Manager had done. He told me that 15-20 minutes was normal on busy nights. When we were seated (great booth at the back, as requested) I was unhappy as I had come to expect better from them. A minute later the Manager appeared, apologizing profusely, saying all the right things. I told him my story. He comped our drinks, our appetizer and dessert! Everything he said was spot on. I told him that when I was working, I always told employees that when we mess up, it’s an opportunity to excel. I expect excellence from Joe’s, and, if everything had gone perfectly, I wouldn’t have thought much about it. But, I DO remember how they reacted to a problem. Oh, the food was outstanding (Dover Sole for me and Tuna for my wife) as was our server, as well as all the staff. Kudos to Lettuce Entertainment which manages. I find their employees to be the best trained in the business, throughout their restaurants. It all starts with the training.

Overlooked Great Take-Out or Delivery Option Near the Navy Pier

By rob h |

We've dined before, and it was great. This time we ordered take-out, and wanted to share that it is an overlooked option if you are nearby in the city. The sauces and dips, along with the steak for our salad, were packaged separately to ensure that items don't get soggy or alter the experience. There is an order cutoff time.

Amazing

By Steven9r21 |

I love going here always the closest place to me I love stone crab and Joe always has them. The service is great. We always sit at the bar and it's a great place to people watch.

Don't miss Joe's Seafood Prime Steak & Stone Crab in Chicago

By Amy C |

Excellent dinner spot. Smoked old fashion review - has us hooked. Make a reservation. We enjoyed a BLT wedge salad, seafood platter, Jennies, Umani Ronchi, decaf coffes, banana cream and Havana cream pies. Server David O was excellent as well as Sarah the sommelier! We had a fantastic time enjoying the ambiance, and sharing the plates! One of the best Chicago restaurants we have visited!

Yummy in our tummies. Fabulous

By BubbaG1812 |

Yummy in our tummies. Fabulous drinks, amazing food, 100% service on par. Make sure u make reservations cause they r busy. Everyone in the staff wears masks and tables r spread out. Make sure u get “the whale” it’s $40/person but worth it. Also bone in steak amazing n cooked to perfection. A plus in my cook a fabulous kid menu. Most places don’t have that which was wonderful. Key lime pie to end the meal. Yummy

The quality of the food is always good

By Maritzabf |

A busy restaurant where reservations are needed unless you want to take a chance with a bar table. The quality and flavor of the food is always good. Excellent sea food. The fried chicken is so good. Fish and chips are delicious. Crab claws exquisite. Key lime pie is a great choice for dessert. Good service. Never gone wrong at this restaurant

Thank Goodness it is in Chicago!

By PrpleAce |

Phenomenal food and service- Stone Crabs were just what I really needed! Service was first rate and right in the thick of the downtown Chicago fun!

A delicious meal with impeccable service

By JennyBrezy |

I came here with my mom for a girls weekend in Chicago. My meal here was absolutely the highlight of the trip. My favorite was The Whale - which is a seafood sampler of some of their best. We had the crab cakes and Dover sole as well. The King Crab legs were unlike any crab I’ve ever experienced as I didn’t realize they could be so good. Desert was exceptional too. They sell half slices of pie so we got three. The service here is impeccable from door to check. The atmosphere and music were lively and fun. Be prepared to spend $$$$ Our bill was $300 with no alcohol and worth every penny! Jen our server was great! Another thing - if you’re trying to decide between here and Eddie V’s, choose Joe’s. We went to Eddie’s the next night and they did not measure up to Joe’s unfortunately.

Not worth it.

By aruba11344 |

We went to Joes Prime Steak and Stone crab for a dinner while in Chicago. We got the Whale for the appetizer. It came with one shrimp, one crab leg, one stone crab claw and a half a lobster tail per person. Stone crab was really disappointing especially for it being there “specialty”. What crab meat didn’t stick to the outside shell, stuck to the cartilage on the inside. You barely got a full bite of meat. The rest was good. Super frugal with there portions but good. We also ordered the bone in filet mignon. That was extremely tasty. For a weak appetizer a glass of house sangria each a salad and filet it was $340 for two people with a 15% tip. If your from Chicago and enjoy going out to super fancy meals to impress friends or a girl with money you probably don’t really have, I’m sure it’s a wonderful place. If your just a normal upper class person and want a good quality meal there are many many many more places even in Chicago that you can get a better meal for significantly less. Really glad we tried it once I guess, we would never come back tho.

Fascinating restaurant

By Troy Mcconnell |

Wow. This restaurant is fascinating, truly pleasant atmosphere. We had octopus, stone crab and crispy Brussels sprouts, everything was so delicious. It is a little expensive but worth it. It was my first time there and I love the place. Cocktails are great too.

Worth Every Morsel

By kikaeats |

Server Tim made every morsel of our birthday lunch a special occasion. From the stone crab claws with an addictive mustard cream sauce to the candle-lit brownie sundae with fresh whipped cream, each bite was memorable. My sister and I were celebrating her birthday and decided to split a bunch of appetizers. Following the order of 5 large crab claws (worth it!), Tim made sure to space out the meal perfectly and share witty anecdotes along the way. A Southern gentleman, he was part of the overall fine dining experience. We laugh as we overindulged on the best wedge salad ever (so well-balanced), shrimp de jonge, fresh crispy calamari and tuna tartare with smoke-grilled rice cakes. A couple of glasses of New Zealand sauvignon blanc washed the flavors down perfectly. Our delicious, fun filled afternoon left us feeling like we made a new friend too. Highly recommend. Impeccable service.

Always Amazing/Stone Crab is the Best/My Wife's Favorite Meal

By Grover R |

Alright, I don't typically like to choose franchises when travelling but Joe's is like a great local wherever you go. It such a great dining experience that I have had in multiple locations for business but my wife had never had. As I expected this was her favorite meal of the trip. It starts at the bar where we had great drinks that once in our hands we were headed to our table. There I got the stone crab and she had the scallops. Again we have seafood all the time but this was amazing. Again, I have never had a bad meal at a Joe's Seafood and Chicago was not different.

Memorable dining at its best!

By Otodoc |

This restaurant is pricey, but worth every penny. Starting with the greetings on arrival to exceptional wait staff, the food was perfectly prepared and delicious. Eric greeted us and was most friendly, Russ was our head waiter and served us exceptionally. He provided excellent recommendations and we enjoyed the oysters and chilled crab claws, which were delicious. We followed that with a petite fillet and a bone in fillet served medium rare with a side of their Mexican corn and lyonnaise potatoes. Even the bread basket was delicious. Complementing the meal was the best martini I’ve had in a very long time, their house martini was so satisfying. We completed our meal with a slice of Boston cream pie dinner for two with an exceptional amount of food came to around $400 with tip. We will be back! Thank you 🙏🏻 Joe’s!

Very good but pricey

By SimplyTravel |

Ok; you know it is expensive when you go there. Service, seafood and steak 5* Ambiente 5* Didn't like that although you have a reservation they let you wait without a drink in the "lobby". Not very pleasant and not matching their own standards. Side dishes were astonishingly weak. Crab Cale on the other hand the best we've had so far. Desert good but also not 5 but rather 4. Could be 5 but considering the prices it is 4. Just expect a bit more (especially while you wait for your table/ the side dishes and desert) when you spend more than 300USD for 2 people.

Fresh Seafood! Great Service!

By Holly K |

Excellent service and food! We stayed at the doubletree which is a short walk from here and brought our 4.5 yr olds in for dinner with us. The staff were all very nice and accommodating to little ones and the food was excellent. Hubby had the crab bisque and it was creamy and had plenty of crab in it, he also had the fried shrimp which included 9 lightLy battered shrimp and French fried. He subbed the hash browns for the fries and they were sooo good! We shared the stuffed mushrooms which were very good and a good sized portion- enough for 3 people. I had the seafood salad and it was fresh, crisp lettuce and plenty of crab, avocado, tomato and whatever other seafood was on it (can’t remember). I didn’t care for the dressing it came with (ordere it on the side) so they brought me out ranch and it was very good). One kiddo had the sweet potato off the adult menu for dinner and it came with a delish praline butter. Our other kiddo had salmon off the adult menu. The salmon came out plain as we had ordered it and they brought him out a side of BBQ and honey upon request, he ate the entire piece and was happy. We sat in the Lounge area as we didn’t have reservations and the dining room was full, they parked the stroller in coat check for us The bread basket was nice, they didn’t have the pumpernickel or whatever the sweet brown bread is the previously had but the other options were fine.. Our waitress was great with the kids and everything came out quick and so tasty. We each had 2 cocktails both were good. Our bill totaled at $199 (plus tip) so it’s not an inexpensive dinner.

Quintessential Joe’s!

By Conseiller99 |

We have dined at Joe’s a good number of times when we visit Chicago, and we’re never disappointed. This time, it was just after the Florida stone crab season opened on October 15, so we said let’s give it a shot, and our hunch was rewarded. Our waiters, Bob G and Jai were terrific! In the true mold of the famous Roy from the original in Miami. This Chicago branch has the same vibe. Delicous salad, excellent fresh stone crab, and the delicious Joe’s mustard sauce. A nice muscadet to go with it, and Jai knew his wine; so we had a nice chat about the grapes that go into it. Terrific lunch! One of our go-to places in Chicago.

Great Place to Eat

The food at Joe's Seafood is GREAT !! We were staying across the street at the Marriott and i called to order Carryout because i had waited to late to make a reservation even though My Wife had told me to make the reservation the day before. the order was ready at the time they said it would be and was hot and in really nice containers for the food to stay hot. the cooked Oysters were GREAT, the Fish & Chips were GREAT, the Lobster Mac & Cheese was GREAT as well !! Will be back for a sit down dinner in the near future.

Perfect Upscale Family Friendly Restaurant

By Katrina J |

Amazing experience! We came here over our spring break visit to the museums with our two kids-five and nine, and they were well cared for. Our server, Denise, gave an expert review of the menu, revisited our table at the perfect frequency and even memorized our names! We ordered the seafood chopped salad (well worth the price, even though I had doubted it), the crab bisque (my 9-yo loved it! Very rich), the grilled seafood platter (with which my picky husband was impressed) and the kids shrimp which was up to par for a very upscale restaurant. Food came out quickly for how busy they were. They brought out brownie sundaes for both kids, even though we didn’t order 2 kids meals, and a complementary dessert for the adults as first time guests. All around amazing place and well-deserving of the top ranking!

Wonderful place, superb food

Having had brilliant dinners here, we popped in for the happy hour after a boat cruise. Superb value and great service, we keep coming back!

Special occasion spot

By Diane P |

I went here twice for two separate large group dinners. This a very expensive spot and it is awesome to go with a group so you can try different items. For entrees I had the ahi tuna with a mushroom sauce and potato cake which was good. I preferred the scallops that I had on night 2 just a little bit more. A lot of people had steaks which they loved. All the sides were great; the hash browns were the only side I didn’t like while the Mac and cheese and Brussels were my favorites. We had desserts one night - huge! I’d save this spot for a group vs a date night.

Joes seafood is not worth a visit

By Elencassia |

I didn’t have a very good experience in this restaurant that was on my list. First asked for a table, they said that there was no available pq I did not make a reservation in advance, they put me at a table in the bar and until then everything was fine, but there came other people who I am absolutely sure that they were without reservation and arranged a table for them. In addition to the lobster roll , it is not actually the lobster but crab , which left the desire pq the spice , like a "alecrim" was in excess . It's not worth it. There are better restaurants.

Excellent excellent excellent

Just awesome. We are foodies and fine dining is a hobby. They restaurant delivers. Drew was our waiter and he was excellent and helped us try as many things as possible. We started with stone crabs and crab stuffed shrimp, both excellent and then went to filet mignon and crab bisque soup. Once again both were excellent and you could cut the steak with your butter knife. The asparagus was deep fried in panko parmesan crust with a sauce on the side (we used as a dipping sauce so it would not get drenched). It was a unique preparation of a usual side dish. We very much enjoyed this. Dessert was both strawberry rhubarb pie and Havana dream pie. I'm still not sure which one I like more. Overall, 5 stars. I have no complaints... and wish this restaurant was in my home town.

Excellent!

Excellent. Spectacular fare, across the board. Had the current special of a salmon burger with sweet potato fries. Excellent vodka martini and 1913-era recipe key lime pie. Special kudos to server Cody.

Great but extraordinarily expensive

By 123Andrew321 |

Visited with my dad and brother. Service was exceptional - very attentive and friendly. Happy to offer recommendations without over selling or I've overestimating what we needed. Stone Crab starters were terrific and the 24oz Rib eye was a beast but a very good cut of meat cooked perfectly My only criticism is the eye watering price. This is a really great steak house but it is not fine dining or Michelin Star level. For 3 cocktails, two bottles of wine, 6 crab claws, a prawn/crab main and 2 steaks, the bill was nearly $700. I've eaten in Michelin star restaurants in the uk, mainland Europe and the states and never paid anything like that for 3 people That being said the service and the steaks really were excellent

Wow!

Literally one of the best meals and dining experiences I have ever had. Watching the wait staff was like a ballet and the ambience was lovely. I adore breaded shrimp and this was without a doubt the most perfect I've ever had. The onion strings and peanut butter pie were also heavenly additions to this perfect meal.

First come First Served

By nabglow |

Very strange experience. Called for reservation and they did not have any tables. Told us we could eat in the bar, “first come first served.” So we came to the bar and went to the host stand were told “first come first served.” There were several couples waiting ahead of us so we asked to be put on the list. We were told “first come first served”. No wait list. So apparently you get there and fight for the table with the other people that are waiting. Never have we had to wait for a table without being put on a list. The host was extremely rude, seems the only words they know is “first come first served.” Can’t comment on anything other than this but based on the rudeness would not bother coming back.

Where do I start…. Denice!!! Promote her now.

By Krissy J |

Where do I start. I’ve been lucky enough to dine at Joes a few times for business. However this time was exceptional. Denice was our waitress and boy oh boy, what a divine heaven sent soul she is. A consummate professional, with high emotional intelligence, attention to detail, personality and foresight to boot. Recommendations spot on. She gave us space but was attentive also. Genuinely this dinner will go down in history as one of the best. Food was fantastic but service was exceptional. Denice thank you for a night to remember.

Consistently great food and service

We went here twice during our visit to Chicago. The crab cakes were terrific and the desserts were to die for.

Very good food from amazing people who know service!

By Brian S |

Spectacular! Joes starts with good service and ends with good service and throughout the entire meal, maintained good service! Our waiter Jesse is one of the best we have ever had. The food was what you would expect from a restaurant like Joes; Fresh and cooked properly and served timely!!

Great experience

By Julia S |

Fantastic food! I ordered the seafood platter and my husband the wygu steak. Both were phenomenal along withe the corn and fried asparagus. Denise was a fantastic waitress. The only drawback (and it won’t stop me from coming back) the tables were pretty close together.

Excellent food

By Katie B |

Our food was amazing. Surprise winner..the filet sandwich. Hands down the best sandwich we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back to this location or the one in Miami. Key Lime Pie is to die for.

Unimpressive food and worse atmosphere

By Gary T |

We had noon reservations and were promptly seated. The service was average but the wait for the food was about 40 minutes—significantly longer than a lunch should have taken. My wife asked the waitress about their fried chicken and she recommended it highly. When it came it was so dry as to be inedible (they did take it off of our check). I had the stone crab which I had been eager to try. It was unimpressive to say the least -just plain bland. I’ve had way better at Joes Crab Shack. The atmosphere was very noisy and a table of about 8 very near us had one man who was VERY loud and drunk and continued to use profane language throughout. Another family with a child of about 3 was right next to them and I felt so badly for them. The staff seemed to be much more attentive to the table with loud guy than the rest of us, bringing more alcohol and ignoring the loud profanity. There was absolutely no way they could have not know as I saw the maitre d’ and various staff visit with them more than once yuking it up with them. We had the largest bill and worst food and worst overall dining experience of our entire Las Vegas trip there. How this place rates so highly on Trip Advisor is beyond me.

One of Chicago's top-rated restaurants

By Taylor B |

Johnny Trotter's closed. Tru closed. Then Ditka's, Morton's Steakhouse, Lawry's, Everest and Blackbird. Now Spiaggia. How many of Chicago's grand old restaurants are left? One standby is Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab. It is described as "one of Chicago's top-rated restaurants," a classic steak and seafood eatery that offers signature stone crab claws served by a tuxedo-clad staff. Located at 60 East Grand Avenue in Shops at North Bridge, a block west of the Magnificent Mile, it also features a dessert menu second to none. Popular among locals, shoppers, tourists and businessmen, Joe's is open from 11:30 to 9:30 Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. The culmination of a partnership between Chicago-based restaurant empire Lettuce Entertain You and Joe's Stone Crab, the legendary seafood restaurant in Miami Beach, it also has locations in Washington DC and Las Vegas. Obviously, Joe's has staying power. My wife and I started with a jumbo shrimp cocktail, bowls of Manhattan clam chowder and crab bisque and a Caesar salad. For an entree, she chose Dover Sole with brown butter sauce, Jennie's mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. I opted for pan seared Branzino with lemon and capers, baked potato and blistered green beans. It's notable how many top-tier restaurants have added Branzino, a delicious Mediterranean sea bass, to their menus. For dessert, we shared large slices of house favorite key lime pie and coconut cream pie.

Excellent all rounder

By Skotti56 |

Having had a great meal at the Joe’s in Washington DC, we had high expectations for our lunch at Joe’s on Chicago. Thankfully it exceeded them. I just don’t think you could improve on this place. The service was warm and friendly and we felt really well looked after. The atmosphere is clubby but intimate and the food is just plain excellent. Tuna tartare and oysters Rockefeller both excellent followed by a bone in filet mignon with mushroom gratin and salad. All of it just perfect. The selection of wines by the glass is good and well priced. Whoever you are, you’ll feel right at home here.

Disappointing

By Aquajh |

I expected a delicious and romantic seafood & steak restaurant. Yes, it was romantic and friendly staffs, but the tastes of both seafood and steak were below my expectation.

You won’t find better than this in town

Great food, great service, great everything… you won’t regret. We dos wait 20 minutes even arriving with reservation… totally worth it.
