We had a really pleasant afternoon meal, here. As Greeks, we are demanding when it comes to eating our country’s food and we were not let down. Everything was well-prepared, promptly served, and reasonably priced. We’ll certainly return.

Came here for lunch and we enjoyed our food. The majority of the lunch menu was centered around ordering the gyro and it was good. The portion sizes were good and i was plenty full. Prices were very fair. The decor is very dated on the inside. I guess the restaurant has been around for a while. There is plenty of space to bring a large group but not a very romantic place to bring a date. They do have a patio to sit outside when it is nice outside.

I wanted to take a break from Papouli’s as my last trip there was not the best. I heard of John the Greek on AM550 and was in that part of town and wanted to visit. I am so happy I tried it as had a Number 11, Gyro with Greek salad which was each perfect. The Pita bread was light and the gyro meat with the tzatiski was fantastic. They have a very extensive menu and would suggest going to their website and downloading it as they have some wonderful offerings. Service was great and prompt for a Saturday and will make this one of my ‘more’ favorite Greek establishments. I will return with friends next time.

My mom and I went here for lunch. Good prices. The tzatziki isn't real strong in flavor, but it isn't bad either. This was my first time going here at lunch, and it was the worst service I have had there. It wasn't too busy either.

Love this place. John offered great wine selections. Dinner on the patio was relaxed and peaceful. Beef souvlaki was phenomenal as is the Hummus and pita bread. Consistently great food and service here. A little off the beaten path but soooo worth the effort to find it.

For 19 years now, John has greeted me with a smile and a warm hand shake. With his mother in the kitchen cooking up home made goodness, John the Greek is the place to go and feel at home with your adopted Greek family. Thanks for always being one of the best restaurants San Antonio has to offer.

I have been going here with my family a lot of times over the years and it is a great place for true Greek food and they are very reasonable prices with great food. If you are visiting San Antonio or live here in San San Antonio you got to check this place out.

This is the third time I have been and have not been disappointed. My son loves it also, and he was never one to venture out of his comfort zone on food. He even tried the octopus tonight and he liked it. The service is always good.

Great food here for a quick lunch or easy dinner they had many of the typical Greek treats including a large variety of Gyros and mousaka and pastitsio , etc worth the trip !

12C. I like the soup, salad, FF, drink and gyro. My wife got the gyro w salad and drink, so we split my fries. One of these days I need to try something else on the menu.

This place has been in business for decades so they must be doing something right, which is serving delicious, authentic Greek food in a cozy neighborhood restaurant at a very reasonable price. We went mid-week, but I understand that they have live music and belly dancers on the weekends. Their patio looks very nice. I'm sure that would be great when the weather is nice. We had the gyro, with a small Greek Salad and cup of soup. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. We will be back.

We met friends here for dinner before a San Antonio Missions Baseball game. The restaurant is a small, hidden, hole in the wall mom and pop type place. The service and food were fantastic. We had 3 people regularly checking on our table for refills etc. Before ordering I asked the server for suggestions and the reply was, “It is all very different “, not much help! The gyros were good but very small and mostly thick pita, not so much filling. That was the biggest disappointment. The Greek salad and the in-house made dressing were good and my hubby loved the french fries. Of course we tried the baklava that is made daily and found it good. The ladies bathroom has safety issues, the floor tile is severely broken with large missing piece leaving holes. Would be a trip hazard for a disabled person.. They should get this patched or repaired before someone gets hurt. We will definitely return and try more things on the menu.

Have been to this restaurant several times and food is always good. I’ve only found one other Greek restaurant in San Antonio which is best I’ve eaten in and that’s The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill on Culebra Road in San Antonio.

always a great meal here. food is fresh and hand made. operators who care. anything from soup, salad, gyro, desserts are all great. wife and i go here on dates.

Always good, no matter what, if any, sides you go for. I always get the whole combination (12c) including salad, soup, fries and drink with it.

Good food and the kids loved it. They had belly dancing there, which was awesome for all of us to watch. The tzatziki and pita could have more flavor.

We have eaten here for years and never once has this place disappointed us. The gyros can't be beat and the Greek salad is worth ordering on its own. I always enjoy the specials when I order something different but I usually can't resist a gyro. I love that the lunch specials come with iced tea. Silly as it sounds, it detracts from my meal when my bill is bulked up by overpriced tea. I generally get soup and salad with my gyro, rather than fries. I'm not wild about the fries, but I admit I'm pretty much alone in that opinion. Everyone else seems to love them! Save room for a Greek dessert specialty, or take something home for later.

Having traveled to Greece, I would like to think I have tasted the real deal. Have also eaten in many good restaurants in the U.S. I would not say this is excellent, but I would say it's very good. I eat here often and it's very good. Never had a bad meal. Service is good and price is reasonable. I strongly recommend.

My family and I came for lunch on a Saturday. I got a lunch special which included a gyro, greek salad, and drink. All was tasty. I should have tried the special that includes the soup though. The restaurant wasn't too loud and a nice setting.

My grandkids from NY & I planned a short trip to San Antonio. I researched Greek restaurants, as it is our favorite cuisine. We stopped in for lunch on our first day on the way to the hotel. We enjoyed Gyros, Avgolemono & Fakes soup, along with a few Greek cookies for later. It was sooooo good. We could not stop talking about it & were dreaming of eating there again. The very next day, we went again for lunch & also took soup home for dinner. I highly recommend the wonderful food here. The service is excellent & it is authentic Greek. We only wished they made the Greek lemon potatoes.

I took my best friend, who is on Hospice to John The Greek Restaurant- since it is his favorite place. John met us at the door and we had a wonderful lunch. Even at 1:00 lunch crowd still busy. Great variety , service and food. Super job everyone!

Oh my good God was this a fantastic place!! Truly authentic design and choices for food. Family friendly layout and excellent staff. Quiet, uncrowded and delicious! Will definitely be returning for future occasions.

Home to the best Gryo I've had out of several different greek restaurants in town I've been to.

The food was good. This is authentic Greek cuisine. For$10, were served a 6 inch gyro with a side. It's a small place. Nice staff.

Definitely recommend this place. I lived in Greece for five years and so have high expectations for Greek food, this place did not disappoint. The kids menu did not just include chicken nuggets, so that was nice. The kids tried the kid friendly Greek food and liked it. The only thing that seemed to be lacking seasoning was their pita bread and tzatziki. They weren't bad, just not as much flavor as I like. They have a belly dancer there at least on the weekends, I'm not sure about during the week.

The best Greek food in San Antonio! Service food and ambiance is perfect! The family is very nice ! The chicken gyro is the best ! And the chicken soup yum! If they are having meatloaf that day it is super yummy I love it! Very filling !!

We went here on a Friday evening, no crowd, so don't tell anyone. Started with drinks, the Greek wine was great. For a app. We had a wonderful and fresh tasting shrimp in a red sauce. No restaurant in SA can touch the taste of it. Also had some tzatziki and pita bread, good also. We then move on to the main course, pork wrap with bacon, very tasty. Baklava for desert and of course more wine!!!! Had a new waitress she did ok. With good wine and food the service was no problem.

Poor Experience _ Not sure Why my To- Go order , as in one time previously seem less than wats expected. The only reason I went back for a do-over was to be considered. It was the same experience: less than 2 slices of Gyro meat on my Taco-sized Pita bread, with more vegetables on this Gyro sandwich. It's not worth $9.25 plus tax - Just give me All my Meat for this Price & Keep your Half done fries. Just so The Review Community knows_ I returned it for a full refund _ Didn't touch anything but the aluminum foil. Thank You John the Greek & Staff

Being only a five minute drive from our family home in SA we eat here a lot. The flaming saganaki is great, we get it almost every visit. We collectively love the gyros, and when we order the mixed grill plate, with the saganaki that is enough to feed the 3 of us. The hot tip here is the lunch specials. I always order the traditional gyro with Greek salad and drink. For $7.75 this is an incredible value, it's always tasty and filling. We have eaten here dozens of times over the last 15+ years; the restaurant is always clean, and the food and service consistently great.

Best, most authentic Greek food in the city. Superb food authentically prepared with great care. Wish I lived close enough to go here everyday, but once or twice a week will have to do. John, the owner, is hands on and strives to please. This is "can't miss"....and I eat out a lot.

John the Greek offers excellent Greek food. The salad I chose was large in quantity and the tomatoes and cucumbers were terrific. Some of the other ladies had the gyro's and indicated they were excellent as well. The toast points were excellent as well. Enjoy this unique opportunity for Greek food right in San Antonio!

I am greek and know my way around Greek food. John's was great. I had the pastitsio, it could have used a lot more garlic, but maybe they tone it down a little, it was still very good. For dessert we had the loukamades, they are like donut holes soaked in a syrup of honey, lemon, clove and cinnamon, best I've ever had! Not to be missed. They also have many other desserts that looked equally as good, made fresh on the premises so next time I go, which will be soon, I am taking a few home with me. The service was great and the restaurant is warm and inviting, not fancy, but neither am I. They have a large patio which will be nice to enjoy in cooler weather and they also have live music and belly dancing two nights a week, forgot which nights. Going back for sure!

The ambiente is terrible, the food even worse. The Gyros clearly was some pre-grinded industrial product, absolutely tasteless. The fries were cold, soggy and sticking together. Must have been the worst meal of my life. The restaurant was empty - now I know why! A place you would recommend to your worst enemy.

Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian IS NOT GREEK FOOD, just so we've cleared that up! It may SEEM similar (Hummus, grape leaves ) BUT THE TASTE, in my opinion don't measure up to REAL GREEK cooking. That being said, here's my review of a real GEM! -JOHN THE GREEK, OPA! FANTASTIC Greek food! No "Mediterranean" food here masquerading as Greek, this place is the real deal. We've had Greek food all over the U.S.( Boston, N.Y.) and Europe and never had better! ! ! Their hummus is just the right balance of chick peas and sesame tahini and is garnished artistically with cucumbers and tomatoes. The pita bread is the best I EVER had, wonderfully light and fluffy and served warm (of course). The avgolemono ( chicken / lemon soup) is rich and savory although a little "short" on lemon-please add more lemon?. The gyro (pronounced yero) was wonderful, BUT the standout here is the meat filled grape leaves (dolmas) ( YOU CAN ORDER THEM COLD WITH WONDERFUL RICE FILLING, HARK !, ALL YOU VEGETARIANS ) and FANTASTIC lemon sauce, ( I like them served warm with DELICIOUS meat filling ) try them with the wonderful spinach rice or delicious potatoes. We were too full for desserts but I bet the baklava is heavenly! They have belly dancing and live music on the weekend. A fun time for all.

What an evening for 3 couples who went to John the Greek restaurant on a Saturday. I got a message on my Eventbrite Picks app about Greek music and belly dancing. Both the reservation and the entertainment were free and well worth it. The authentic Greek food was fantastic!! I had a lamb skewer and my wife had a beef gyro. The lamb was tender and cooked to my request of medium-well. It had no strong mutton taste. I have eaten lamb plenty of times before and this was the best. I had 2 Shiner Bocks at $3.75 each; what a bargain!! This is the best price in SA. I’m lucky to get a SB for $5. The music was great along with the singer were great. They played from 6-6:45. Then the best part, the belly dancer. OMG, she was out of this world!! She danced around the tables and near the patrons. I took several phone videos but Trip Advisor doesn’t download videos!! Oh well, you got to go to see her. The crowd was a mixture of couples, families with small children, older couples, and younger people. The place was pack but this restaurant has plenty of tables including outside tables. Even if you haven’t tried Greek food before like me, go to John the Greek and enjoy yourself with the food, the music, and the belly dancing.

This is the best Greek food in South Texas. It is family owned and run with Mom and Dad doing a lot of the cooking and all of the baking. All the food is great but the desserts are just out of this world. The belly dancers on Friday and Saturday nights are a real added attraction.

we ordered the gyro plate, gyro and a piece of baklava. I can tell you that John's is authentic Greek food in every way. the plate came with a small bowl of this lemon soup, I would go back there just for that soup, is was so good. but the rest of our lunch was also very good.

I LOVE greek food. This did not knock my socks off. But I'm used to the greek fare in southern california. Way too much oil on the marinated octopus and dolmas like my grandmother's cooking. But that said, I did enjoy it. It was near our hotel, and I never turn down greek food. The gyros were decent to good, the lemon soup was outstanding, the spanakopita was great, and the custard pie was good. There was one poor girl trying to wait tables, bus tables, and run the register though so don't be in a hurry when you come.

I couldn't find John anywhere, but what I did find was a cozy little place and some very good Greek food. It's basic 1-2-3 from the avgolemono soup to the traditional gyro and tzatziki sauce. The hummus and pita appetizer was a little bland but creamy and smooth on the soft pita and the spanokopita was flaky and satisfying with the spinach and cheese filling. The Greek wine and beer sampling we did was also entertaining as well refreshing. Maybe a slight language barrier with "mama" and a few price misquotes on the beverages, but a very good experience overall.

Cranky waitress! Was ignored and never served ! Don’t eat here! If there was such thing as a zero rating... this place deserves it !

As always. I've come here for many years. John always greets his customers with a handshake and friendly, "Hello". The decor makes you think of a Greek afternoon and the food makes you glad you came, from the gyros to the fresh cut french fries, the tsatsiki sauce to the chicken souvlaki and handmade desserts! I've never tasted anything here that I didn't like and neither has any of the lunch companions I've introduced to the best Greek food in San Antonio!

My wife and I have dined in many Greek Restaurants and this one has exceeded our expectatiions. We ate for lunch and were seated promptly. Our food came out fast and nice and hot. The traditional gyro was very good, good balance of meats and sauce. The cheese did not overwhelm the gyro, which is good. My wife had the chicken gyro which I also sampled (left overs). This was also very good. The fries were not as good as the gyro, unfortunately. The salad was very good, served with its own restaurant inspired dressing which was tasty by its own rights. The music was not too loud or soft, which added that little extra to the experience. I would highly recommend to those who wish to enjoy greek food at a good price.

I eat here every time I go to San Antonio. Good, friendly service. Inexpensive. Greek food that tastes authentic.

All I can say is wow. The gyros were amazing and the lamb was some of the best I have had in years. Not gamey and very tender and full of flavor! Highly recommend this scratch made eatery. Great value for your money.

We try to go eat lunch here at least once a month. The Lemon Chicken soup is the best. We have tried lots of the food and haven't found any yet that we didn't like. I had the Mousakka for lunch and it is really nice and moist. They have an outdoor patio that is nice sit and dine in the fall.

Have not been here in a couple of years but went on 11/6/19 for a friend's b-day. The flamed Kasseri cheese was good. Dinner came with side salad and each had only 1 unpitted olive and some of the lettuce was turning red along rib. My sauteed octopus in oil had very little flavor and the octopus was chopped up into TINY cubes. Other diner had lamb chop which was overcooked. 3rd diner had shish-kabob lacking in seasoning also. One diner had grape pie which was so sweet it was a cavity maker. Will not be going back.

Very pleasant environment and attentive staff. Ordered a cold appetizer sampler and a combo sampler to share A little bit of everything and topped of with a grape pie. All well prepared and delicious. Plenty for two to share. Saturday evening they had a belly dancer. She was fantastic. Very talented dancer and great performer. We enjoyed the experience.. immensely

Stopped in for lunch mid week as I was nearby. Food was excellent. I had gyro and salad. Mmm.. Price was good and service was excellent as well. Going again soon. Next time taking friends or family.

I've been a customer for many years. This is a place to go for family owned and operated authentic Greek food. Their homemade salad dressing is their masterpiece, it's delicious and healthy. They sell bottled versions for take home, I always have some in my fridge. The food is wonderful; except for the fries that I wished were hand cut skin on fresh. The staff and owner are very friendly and accommodating. Excellent alternative to a greasy fatty burger...

Service with a smile! Very friendly atmosphere with quick service. Food portions are large and tasty enough to make a return visit.

We were back in San Antonio recently and just had to go back to John's. We hadn't been in several years and we have been craving one of thier wonderful gyros for some time now. They haven't changed a bit, thankfully. They were just as tasty as we remembered them. I have looked all over the country for a gyro as good as this one and can't find one. Always good, always fast and always at the right price!

I was in town for business and this restaurant was recommended to me, and it did not disappoint. I got the gyro and the avgolemono soup. It was delicious, and the manager (and possibly owner) was very friendly. I will come back here next time I'm in San Antonio.

great atmosphere. John the owner is fantastic.Mousaka is my favorite dish. The lamb gyros also great. Greek salad always nice. have been coming here with family for a long time and never dissapointed.

Servings are small compared to a normal Greek restaurant. They are super proud of there salad dressing so anything you order it with it comes soaked in. Service was slow as only 1 waitress for inside and out while the owner sat at the counter watching her struggle through it. Much better options in the immediate area.

Always enjoy coming here. Started with an order of saganaki (hot / flaming cheese) and pita. The Greek salad has a nice dressing. For main course we had a gyro plate and befteki. Both very nicely seasoned. Would order again.

We have eaten here often, and we are always pleased with the food and friendly service. They serve a nice Greek Red wine "Naoussa" which is from Northern Greece - and is actually named for the town of the same name in the hills of Macedonia. It is made from the area's red-wine grape Xynomavro. It is similar to an Italian Barolo.

Effie the owner and chef makes everything homemade desserts. Excellent customer service! The best in San Antonio !💓

This is still the best place to go for Greek food in San Antonio! This little gem always has a wide menu with great classics. I had the lamb which was excellent while my wife and daughter both had the gyros.

I am personally shocked by the management of this restaurant. I ordered a mousaka for $12, which was completely bland and tasteless. I ask to return the item. When I received the bill the manager had charged $5 for the side of rice and $4 for the small salad, $0.80 for the pita. She told me she had removed the mousaka, but had charged $9.80 for the sides that accompanied it. She refused to compromise. By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Atmosphere was good, service was outstanding. I had the lamb soulvaki, it was tasty, but tough meat. Salad was fantastic, as was the stuffed grape leaves (Doulmades?) Would definitely return!

Shabby, but good fast Greek food.

I have been eating at this restaurant since they were located near Ft. Sam in a very strangely configured building. The "new" location is much closer to my house. Saganaki is well prepared and fun. Oppaa!!! Salads are freshly prepared with crisp, well-cleaned ingredients. The home grown dressing is delicious. I usually go with either moussaka or pastitcio - both excellent. I am not a lamb eater but those that do give the entrees here good marks. I avoid Friday & Saturday as I am not a fan of belly dancers and the accompanying music. But if that floats your boat - you can enjoy that here.

This is a great jewel! Gloria was very friendly and the combo platter was more than perfect, not spicy, condiments were perfectly

There aren't many Greek restaurants in San Antonio, so I was happy to find this one. And finding it wasn't easy. It's sort of back in the south east corner of a Big Lots parking lot on the northbound 281 service road, just south of 1604. Service was fast and friendly, and the lunch specials are very good and reasonably priced. Well worth looking for.

I have eaten here several times when visiting SA and have always enjoyed wonderful food along with a relaxing ambiance. I shared my combo with my fiancee. The food was very filling. Love getting a variety of food along with a Greek salad. This is a great dinner to order if you desire to try a variety of Greek food. Desserts are really good too. Wish I lived closer so I could enjoy it more often.

Good Greek food at an affordable price. Gyros delicious and the fries are yummy.

Love this place, it's so clean and the walls are beautiful with vibrant pictures. The food was fantastic and the waitress was so nice and efficient. We had the specials. I had chicken breast with ham inside, roasted potatoes and also some really yummy green beans. Both meals came with a fresh salad, with light vinaigrette dressing. I love the taziki (sp) cucumber salad it is so authentic. My friend had stuffed peppers with rice and also the roasted potatoes. He said it was the best meal he has had in a long time. I would recommend it. It is consistently great!, Which seems to be rare these days.

Like every time we travel, we try different restaurants and types of food. It was delicious and with good price.

I have really enjoyed everything that I have tried on their menu (most of their selection). In addition to the entrees, the dinner salad, french fries, and baklava are also excellent.

Authentic Greek food and is delicious. Family owned and the family is great. All the dinner plates are really good and fill you up. A good selection of desserts available as well. The lamb shank falls off the bone it's so tender.

I have patronized this restaurant since it was in an eclectic building across the street to an entrance to Ft. Sam. Tonight my server was the grandson of the founder. The legacy is in good hands.

Went there for lunch today. Have been there many times. Great lunch menu with reasonable prices. I always get a combo with soup, Greek salad and an entree. All three are very good. The Chicken lemon soup is extra special. John, himself, always visits with the customers. His John the Greek dressing is really good and he will also sell you a bottle of it.

My daughter and I went to John The Greek last week and were eagerly anticipating a great Greek meal. It was delicious The eggplant appetizer was perfectly seasoned, and our Greek salads were fresh and flavorful. We ordered slices of gyro meat on the side to go with our salads. The ambiance was good and there was Greek music playing in the background. The waitress wasn't warm or friendly, but she was efficient. So why only an average rating? The prices we paid WERE ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! The owners have lost two customers who would have visited often, as we are new business owners who work nearby and would have dined their frequently. The eggplant appetizer was priced for 7-8 medium slices of eggplant....we received three small slices!! I know what an eggplant costs in San Antonio, and these owners made at least 500% profit on this appetizer. I also asked for an order of anchovies for my salad, and was again disappointed when our waitress brought out two very tiny fillets and charged me wayyyy more than they should have. We were charged 1.00 for every tiny piece of gyro meat we ordered on the side. The slices were thin and only about 3" long. The only thing we could assume is that this restaurant has fallen on hard times, or that the rent for their space has increased, forcing them to charge these exorbitant prices. I will not be back.

We went for our girl’s night out and it was awesome! Staff was beyond helpful and attentive. Got there @ 5pm on a Friday and we were the only ones there. By the time we left - 7:20 pm, the place was packed. I had the lamb burger...delicious! Others had pork chops, gyros, gyros and steak - nothing was bad. I will go back for sure.

Eat here twice. The dinner was very good and the chicken moist with nice side dishes. The lunch kabobs we're a bit tough. But still tasted good. The owner and staff as as nice as you will find anywhere. I would recommend this place for a nice setting and friendly service.

This place has the best choices of combos you can imagine. You can have a gyro with French fries and a salad, or soup and a salad with your meal, the choices are endless and yummy.

Started with the Garithes (shrimp) and it was simple but very delectable. The meal went downhill from there. My wife had the Kota Rigganote (roasted chicken) that was so overcooked that it was uneatable and had to be sent back, twice. She conceded and they gave us the fish to go. That too was overcooked and under-seasoned! I had the rack of lamb. It was tough and tasted like they only lightly salted the lamb (this may have been ok if they had at least given me some type of sauce). Very displeased.

Definitely found our new spot in town. The service is great. Very friendly. Great outdoor seating. The gyros and baklava are so delicious! You have to try this place! Can't wait to come back.

Location really inconnvenient, but good food and fast service.

If you have not had saganaki try it at this restaurant. The owner makes extremely well and tasty. Their Greek coffee is also very good.

My wife and I love Greek food and JTG never disappoints. We eat there regularly and it’s always great. The salads and gyros are fresh and very tasty. The dressings are homemade and are great. Take a bottle home! The dolmades and lemon chicken soup are our favorites. Service is super and pricing is reasonable. Strongly recommend.

I have to eat gluten-free (I am celiac) and this restaurant was able to accommodate me and my hubby (who is definitely NOT GF). I had a meal with wonderful flavors, even GF, which is rare!! Even better, we were able to get a true bottle of Greek wine that is hard to find even in Houston (Naoussa Boutari, red).

Perfect lunch spot right across the street from our office! Great food, wonderful service - reminds me of Zorba's in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Their prices are reasonable and I am never disappointed!

We ate here this evening. Let me just say, we've eaten at a lot of good restaurants, and several really good Greek restaurants, but none as good as John the Greek! Everything we ate exceeded our expectations; service was the best, and John came over and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I cannot say enough about how impressed we were. We'll definitely be back our next time through San Antonio. You all have a gem right here!

The food is excellent, ranks as some of the best Greek we’ve ever had. The service was friendly, attentive, and informative. Prices were reasonable for what was provided. Highly recommend this restaurant!

I always go for lunch. Everything from appetizers to gyros and salads to desserts is simply amazing. Traditional, authentic, consistently delicious and very reasonably priced. Always smiling faces and friendly staff, although sometimes they can seem overwhelmed during a peak lunch rush hour but that doesn't make the food any less delightful! I've introduced several friends and family to this restaurant and they've introduced their own friends and family as well. Can't go wrong here!

This neighborhood place has the charm and ambiance that your looking for on a date night or even with the whole family. My fav is the lamb shank. Literally falls off the bone. Can't think of anything I've ever had bad here. Like wine? Experiment with the Greek wine. They have a great selection. Enjoy the patio and relax. When you leave your stomach is going to say "whoopah"

I really love variety so we try to eat at different places all the time. John the Greek is near my wife's office so they eat there every couple of Weeks. I've tried the gyros in about 5 other restaurants here in San Antonio but no one makes them like they do. It's always delicious. The service is always friendly and quick, even though they do get really busy at times during lunch. It's quaint and small but the decorations make you feel you've stopped across the ocean. The baklava and apricot cookies are my favorite desserts. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Good eating.

Wife found this spot in a shopping center on a busy Saturday night. Wife had Gyro plate and I had Lamb kebabs, both very good and very reasonable. Big menu all very reasonable oh and they have a Belly Dancer on Saturday...Go enjoy and sit outside...

We were invited to join 3 couples at this restaurant. We’d never heard of it so this was our first visit. It won’t be our last! The food was excellent (I had the pastitsio, my husband had a combo plate.). Great service and a very friendly and welcoming proprietor. Don’t forget to get some baklava. It is hand made every day by the proprietors mother.

John Greek Restaurant offers well-cooked fish and a salad that closely resembles an authentic Greek salad. The male owner or waiter was very attentive and friendly, which made the experience more enjoyable. Prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere inside is beautifully decorated with appealing visuals. The location is also very close to the main road, which is a plus. However, there was a small issue—although we didn’t have a drink, the female cashier still charged the full price for the combo meal that includes gyro, fries, and a drink. Despite this, I would still recommend this restaurant to my friends.

We've eaten here many times over the years, to include their old location by Ft. Sam. Service has always been good (even for a large group), and the food is consistently good. We always start with the dolmas (grape leaves) and then either gyro or moussaka. The spinach/rice side dish is very good -- choose it with your moussaka. The Greek Salad is good, but just ask for the salad dressing on the side as they do tend to drench it otherwise. Arrive on the early side of dinner hour as the place does fill up. Oh, and they have a great selection of bottled beer, in addition to a few wines (Greek wines). Ice tea is always very good, too.

I spent 2 years in Western Europe, visiting Greece on two occasions. I always opted to eat at least one gyro and also had to have a fix of Greek salad and baklava. I can tell you that John's is authentic Greek food in every way. The food is always freshly made ... flavorful ... and more than adequate proportion wise. I've eaten the gyro ( Tzatziki sauce could be a little more garlicky, but I like mine strong), sampled the Moussaka (this oven-baked casserole of layered eggplant and spiced meat filling topped with a creamy bechamel is the highlight of any Greek meal), a wonderfully flavorful and fresh Greek salad (the olives are little "flavor" packages), and Dolmathakia (dol-mah-THAH-kya) - stuffed with rice, pine nuts, and fresh herbs. Lastly, some delicious baklava, with thin sheets of phillo pastry, sweet honey-based syrup and crushed pistachios. Decadent. Priced right ... service is fast, even during their busy lunch service. Enjoy!

I've had gyros many many places , including all over Greece, so unfortunately I have a high standard and this gyro , either the traditional or the chicken is just so-so . The service is good and the lunch deal is good and seems to be popular and so if you are looking for an acceptable gyro, then this is fine but a lot of bread and not a lot of good filling . That said, I come here often enough for the lunch specials.

We've always loved this place, but hadn't been in years. We really need to come more often! It was lovely to see the charming outdoor area that is now available, too. The greek salad is amazing and we love it with a gyro (#11 on the lunch menu, which also comes with a drink.) All salads come with JOHN THE GREEK salad dressing (mixture of herbs, garlic and olive oil). You can find it at many H-E-B markets across Texas because it is so yummy! Lamb gyros with extra tzatziki sauce are my favorite! Tzatziki sauce is sour cream with grated cucumbers and garlic. Cheryl had Spanakopita (spinach with feta cheese and herbs, baked in a phyllo crust) and loved it. Mark & I got the baklava to go and added a little vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Man, was it delicious! Opa!

The food is just so good here. It's consistently fresh, hot, and very well prepared. The service is friendly and fast, and the owner always makes a point to smile and take care of you. This place is a real gem, and my favorite Greek restaurant in San Antonio.

have been frequenting this restaurant for many years, when they first opened on Harry Wurzbach Rd; food is prepared with expert hands and is always very tasty. We spent several days in Greece and enjoyed the food immensely & this tradition is carried on by Pete & Effie and son John here in San Antonio; we're fortunate to have them!
Great Greek!
Mousaka! Greek salad. Pita bread all is great here with attentive service and nice atmosphere. Owned by a local family for years. Consistent food.
