Fantastic place and dining experience. Super service, and a rather large selection of Asian dishes. The price was a touch high, but at least it felt that one received a quality meal.

Stopped in for a lunch. Left very happy. Good choices on food and drinks. Prices were good but amount of food for prices not awesome. Lobster tacos were our favorite. Had a bit of everything

Patio service was lacking and therefore didn’t order additional brunch cocktails and we had to track down our server to pay our bill.

The food tasted good, but the other aspects of our experience left much to be desired. Service was very slow, and our server was not very nice. He also wasn’t paying attention: when he was clearing the table, I specifically asked him to leave one of the dishes we weren’t finished with, and he immediately picked it up and cleared it anyway. The worst part of the experience, however, was that the lobster tacos contained imitation lobster, which is made from finned fish, which my wife is seriously allergic too. There was no indication on the menu that the lobster tacos weren’t real lobster, and if I hadn’t identified the imitation lobster myself, my wife could’ve ended up in the ER.

Delicious dinner just inside the dining space (so not fully sitting “inside”). Great server, “DG,” see photo, was friendly, extremely helpful, and very attentive to our enjoyment of the meal. Had a sushi appetizer and truffle dumpling. Yum. Also a great, nice size Caesar salad offering (as I recall), along with the shrimp and pork shumai (which I would pass on next time, as overcooked, chewy, and not particularly flavorful), and the sirloin which was tender and delicious. DG made me coffee which was A+ service and really appreciated. Good meal in a nice setting, at a reasonable price.

Perfect mix between adventure and comfort food! Great service! Multiple outdoor seating options. I had the Chicken and Waffles w/an Asian twist - it was delicious! I just wish I'd gotten more of their amazing kitchen! The sake mimosas were refreshing and tasty. Hubby had a brunch bento box. I tasted his miso soup, veggie tempura, maki roll, & Japanese omelet - all were top notch! The tempura French toast at the next table looked scrumptious.

At last, JOI Asian Bistro has opened at The Domain Northside! Definitely worth the wait! Every bite, every sip, was fantastic! We started the evening with the miso soup, delicious and served piping hot. We then selected quite a few of the nigiri-style sushi selections, alternating with several of the sushi rolls. Everything was great, so it's hard to say that any piece of sushi or any specific roll was the best. That said, the Chu-toro (fatty tuna), Unagi (freshwater eel), and Uni (sea urchin)(from California) were standouts. We also had the Aji (Japanese horse mackerel)(pictured below) that was prepared from a whole fish, cut and served as sashimi, with the fish skeleton then deep-fried. Amazing ... a "must have" on the menu. The JOI Signature roll was "off the chart" crazy good, and the one (cannot remember the name) with the fried shrimp hanging out of the end was terrific. JOI has a diverse sake selection, reasonably priced. The service was awesome, attentive but not obtrusive (thank you Paula!!!). We cannot wait to go back!

As I was looking for a quick bite, I decided to stop at Joi. The food was quite good, albeit the portions rather small. It seems to be a cross section between different East Asian dishes (China, Japan, ...). Service was extremely friendly and attentive and the location good. Would I come back? Maybe for drinks.

Great Spot.. The bartenders were great. Sushi was great, Me and my son loved it.Would definitely go back if we are ever back in the area

We stumbled on this restaurant on a recent visit to Austin and we’re so happy we did. The food is fresh and very tasty with ample portion sizes. The drinks were good too and the staff was great. Would highly recommend!

Poor food, Poor service. We sat down to eat. I was very hungry so I proceeded to tell the waiter my order when he came by. He told me verbatim “She isn’t ready though”, because my friend sitting across did not know what she wanted yet. I communicated I still wanted to order while my waiter walked away. Later on, we ordered our food. I ordered the SPICY sesame chicken, safe to say the name of the dish was misleading. My sister ordered sushi and my two friends split a ramen. As we indulged in said dishes, we quickly learned that it was bland and lacked any flavor. So, we asked for chili oil. At last, the chili oil similarly lacked any spice or flavor. All hopes were lost of treating our New Jersey friends to good food in Austin. In addition, the waiter was nowhere to be found when we looked to report our problems. Finally, I called the waiter over to report our concerns and asked for the check. Extremely dissapointed and dissatisfied with the service and food.
Perfect, super-fresh seafood!
As fresh as it gets! Amazing cocktails. Wonderful staff. I live on the New England coast where I catch and cool my own seafood and have access to amazing seafood. The urchin and scallop here are as good as it gets.
