Decent

By Deja Vu |

Came here unexpectedly due to last Minute changes. Didn’t know that they closed so early so they were rushing us and rude from the beginning at the door. We got here at 8:30PM, They could have inform us that they closed at 9pm so we could have choose another place to eat. We felt rushed to ordered everything at once and drinks are all last call. Food was decent and drinks likewise. Services was ok and we wish we had a chance next time to be more relax and enjoy the rest of the menu.

Good but wanted it to be better

By gondekp |

Was in town for a concert and also wanted to find good Mexican food. The reviews pointed me to Jose. Liked the atmosphere when we arrived. One thing I’ll mention is there is both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose inside but happened to be seated in the first row of tables that was closest to the bar. Definitely avoid this row of tables. When there are a lot of people at the bar sitting/standing they are basically in your personal space. The salsas that came first were both very good. One was warm which was new to me but tasted fresh and balanced. I also had a margarita which was also good. We had the elote corn which is off the cob and had all the typical flavors. The only thing I would change is adding some char on the corn kernels as if it were on the grill. I then had the short rib enchiladas. They were good but not as good as I wanted them to be. I walked away having had a good meal but I wanted it to really stand out.

Great Brunch

By BilrusandFriends |

I was in town for a quick visit with family and we went here for brunch. The hostess stated the outside was by resv only, but we placed our name and got a table within 20mins. The bartender was very cool, giving us a sample of their delicious (and strong) frozen margaritas. Really...their margaritas are fantastic! With the chips and salsa, we added guac and elota which was delicious. We all ordered something different and everyone loved their meal. I had the steak tacos which were great! I can't wait to come back to this place on my next visit to Dallas!

Great food but over-priced

By gordotx |

My first time in Jose, a very breezy and comfortable spot along Lover's Lane north of Dallas, was yesterday at 5:30pm. We were greeted warmly by the buff and friendly server who informed us that Happy Hour prices were "only at the bar". Huh? We were one of only 2 tables occupied in the entire restaurant. So I have to go to the bar, get my drink at HH price, and return to my table? Nope, can't bring it to the table. Swell. So I ordered a house frozen marg with salt. Served in a small OJ glass, it was $14!!. Yikes. After a friend joined us, we ordered : fish tacos, a chicken breast with rice, and a salad with salmon added. Our drinks included 2 frozen margs, 2 skinny margs and 2 Topo Chico fizzy waters. Total cost: $131!!!. Before tip of $25! And this is for Mexican food. It was very tasty but come on, $50 apiece for Mex food with 2 drinks is REALLY high. Get your pricing together Jose, or at least get down off your high horse on Happy Hour.

A Must Visit!

By RiverRat68 |

I love this place! Lover’s Lane is home to many bars and restaurants so the competition is stiff, but Jose’s is worth a visit. There’s a creative cocktail menu in addition to the standard fare and they’re all great! The food menu extensive and the dishes are high quality. The prices are higher than a regular Tex Mex joint but are worth it IMHO. Everyone is friendly and polite, table service is OK but service at the bar is excellent. There’s a small valet only parking lot.

Interesting food....not ordinary Tex-mex

By Dave Porter |

My wife s I ate here recently and explored the menu trying four different dishes. She had the avocado purée gespacho as a first course. Instead of chopped tomato gespacho this was a green purée with fresh tomatoes and cumbers, delicious. We especially liked the masa gnocchis that set it off. I had the green pazole soup and it was pretty good too. For the main course I had the grilled halibut with the carrot mole. It was fantastic!

No Saturday Brunch

By Oxford1809 |

Went to Jose’s at 11:30 on a Saturday morning hoping to have brunch. Unfortunately, they only had two brunch items available and the menu had already switched to lunch. Two of us had the brunch items (Huevos Rancheros and Mexican French toast), which were very good, while others had salads. The restaurant is open with plenty of outdoor seating, and the architectural design and detail catches one’s eye. While the property is attractive, and food was good, the service was uneven and the prices a bit high. Going by appearances, Jose’s is aiming high in terms of attracting a younger upscale clientele, but with no Saturday brunch menu before noon, it has a way to go.

Meh.

By Cory049 |

We arrived with an Open Table reservation. When reserving, your choices are outside or standard. Be advised that standard means whatever is available. It does not mean inside. Kind of ridiculous, when the other choice is outside. The hostess was not gracious about it at all, kind of snotty actually. Sort of like - this is the way it is. We waited about 15 minutes for a table. When seated, the service was average. The elotes was exceptional. All of the entrees arrived lukewarm. The waiter didn't ever check back to see if the food was okay until well into our entrees. You could tell they were totally focused on turning the table. Now we can say we have dined here, but with SO many other choices nearby, we will not be back.

very good food and craft cocktails

By NOLA_2011 |

Fun and lively atmosphere for upscale Mexican in Dallas. Very professional service. Be a bit careful as these guys like to upsell and cross-sell you - especially in the drink department.

Very disappointing birthday dinner.

By Stephen C |

Heard some good things about this place, so chose it for my birthday dinner with family. Chips and salsa were okay, but went way downhill from there. Ceviche for the table was fishy and both my parents got sick. Fish tacos and shrimp tacos were nothing special and brought wrong dish the fist time out. I had carnitas. Everything on the plate was cold and flavorless - the meat, corn and rice - if I closed my eyes, couldn't have begun to tell what I was eating - the sauce that accompanied was just the green salsa that they serve with the chips. Wife had what was described as a crab cake special with huitlacoche. From what we could tell, what she got was black bean cakes with microgreens. Service was not great, but definitely could overlook that if the food was good, but it was far from good. $180 for two appetizers, 3 entrees, 4 beers and two drinks. Bummer!

A Mexican with a twist

By Shadi A |

We were three couples having dinner. We started with tasty frozen margaritas at the bar. At the table we had few appetizers and each couple shared a main dish. For appetizers we had the Elotes, Coconut Ceviche and Brussels Esquites. For main we had the Moles, Pescado and Enchiladas. The interior decor is nice, colors are vibrant, service friendly and ambiance nice. Highly recommended for people interested in a Mexican with a twist.

Average in every respect

By wirepaladin08 |

I had heard generally good things about Jose a few months back and finally ate dinner there. Portions were large but large portions of average food doesn't help much. The calamari appetizer was the best part of the meal with everything else very forgettable. Jose does have some some good, high end tequilas if that is up you alley. But all things considered will not return.

Perfection

By mhanley254 |

My aunt took us here last week, and it's one of the best meals I've had. Maybe my new death row meal. We went at lunch, though my aunt said the people watching is stellar at dinner. It was pretty quiet that day/time. The service was great - I almost don't remember it. Drinks came quickly, food was hot, we didn't wait on the check - but I have no memory of the waiter. It was first class service. The drinks. So good. My cousin and I tried four different drinks together (she got two, I got two). I don't remember the names but they were all delicious. I know she got something with grapefruit juice that tasted unbelievably fresh and The Usual. I got a basic margarita that was also amazing and fresh and a Tequila Mockingbird. That was one of my favorite cocktails of all time. The chips and salsa were fantastic. The green salsa was the best. Or maybe the red. No. Definitely green. Or.... The calamari was my least favorite part of the meal. And if you knew my love for calamari, that would tell you something. I'm even saying that knowing they had fried strips of jalapeño in there. It was delicious. I ordered shrimp tacos. They were exactly what I wanted. Fresh and hearty and light at the same time. The rice was amazing and I love rice. Add some green salsa to them. You'll thank me. My cousin got a pork sandwich dish. It was so good too. There was some kind of spicy, smoky sauce that came with it. Don't overdo that, but don't leave it off. My mom got beef enchiladas, my aunt got chicken, and my grandmother got something that was a lot like carne adovada. All three were excellent. The portions were huge. I thought it was well worth the money.

Third time of HORRIBLE service!

By jangrote |

Call me a fool, but I went back a second and third tiem. I was hoping the service would improve. No..No..No. Really 45 minutes to be asked for your order? They seem to be pushing drinks and not food. Drinks are good but if you come here to eat...good luck. Be patient. A meal could last 2 hours!

Hot stuff

By Nancy V |

On a recommendation that this was a hot spot we decided to give it a try. Being from Houston, we know and love Tex/Mex. it has a nice vibe, very hip and youthful. There is a nice selection of margaritas, almost too many. I ordered the tacos al carbone. Everything was fresh and tasty, the one problem being an over abundance of jalapeños on everything. I like a bit of spice but this was keep a glass of water handy spicy. There should have been a warning label somewhere. Maybe it is not always like that? If I lived in Dallas I might give it one more try to see if it was just an off night.

Undisclosed surcharges, mediocre service, shady company

By Steven R |

Restaurant assesses an undisclosed 3% credit card surcharge, which is actually closer to 4% because they then calculate tax and tip on top of that. It's not anywhere on the menu, their website, or OpenTable details. Also, their POS charges tax at 8.5% instead of 8.25%...a tiny difference per diner but adds up to several thousand dollars of money in someone's pocket at the end of the year. They say reservations are highly encouraged, but then require a credit card guarantee of $15 per person when making that reservation, and no cancellations allowed within a day. So if you are a party of 8 and something comes up even with 20 hours notice, they can now charge you $120. In my opinion, at a restaurant cannot afford to serve its diners without resorting to hidden 3% surcharges or forcing people to make guarantees, perhaps it needs to be revisiting its operating model. The thing that they nail is the decor and ambiance. If I just wanted a place to sit down and hang out and maybe have a few beers, this is great. I've dined here twice now, one's with a group of 16 and one's with a group of 7. One time the food was great and the other time it was just okay. Both times the service was lacking and it took an excessive amount of time for finished items to be taken away after the meal and even longer for the check to be brought. The biggest irony to me is that they are part of the Sapphire Reserve Curated Tables program, then charge 3% to even use the card there. Note: I also have tried reaching out directly to discuss my concerns but this business does not respond to emails.

Has great potential

By Carole |

Well. I dined for lunch alone, it was a rainy day last week and I chose a good time of day as it was after lunch . They set down my chips and salsa as I explained to the hostess as I left to use the restroom . When I returned it took almost 10 minutes (yes I timed it) for anyone to notice I was sitting there with no beverage. Here comes sweet Rosa to save the day. She was very apologetic and brought me some water and explained they were having computer issues , but still no reason to not have been noticed ... She took my order promptly and checked on me often. The help was definitely scrambling trying to accommodate all customers coming and going doing everything by hand. Possibly the chef/owner came over and explained the situation and she was very apologetic, I told her I understood . I had the La Chica salad. It was very tasty, mango and avocado , A bit too much dressing to my liking , and missing something that I can’t put my finger on but very very good. You can add fish or a protein. But I did not. I also had the Street Style Elotes. AMAZING! The flavors were so wonderful with a grilled corn? So good. Both were great portions so I ended up taking some home. Several people checked on me throughout my meal. The salsa verde is very good , I wasn’t crazy about the warm Red sauce . But they were kind enough to give me fresh chips and both salsas to take away. I will definitely go again. Rosa is a GREAT server , definitely ask for her!

Delicious

Service was great and my dinner, tenderloin enchiladas was excellent. Friend ordered shrimp tacos which were a little too fishy and dessert of churros was not so great. I would go back.

Chic Restaurant serving great Mexican Food

By Jake Rogers |

Been to this chic Park Cities eatery a few times because the food is so good. Some really good innovative Mexican food. Excellent Tacos also really good Ceviche. Always excellent service and friendly service.

Mixed review

By AuroraDiner |

Fully understand that when a restaurant has about an equal split on inside / outside seating and it’s hot outside the pressure on inside seating is going to be heavy - but to have to wait an hour after reserving days before and giving me a choice at booking then that’s making your problem the customers . I’m guessing the pressures to take walk in $$ and allow people to sit in when you know you have reservations later delayed my table , shame as service was. Ok and the food was good but not standout - it’s a trendy spot so they will do ok as it looks like people will take eating at a hot spot and tolerate wait time , not sure I’ll rush back

Redfish!

By jpatter1 |

Great place. Very good service. Guac needs more seasoning. Green salsa is to die for. The best. Redfish entree was inspired. Perfectly cooked. Excellent sides.

A bit above average

By The Excursionist |

Jose has both indoor and outdoor seating. We had a family dinner on a Friday night at 7, indoors. There was a nonstop “solid wall of noise.” Everyone is shouting across the tables. If that is your kind of environment then ...enjoy. Service is very attentive and staff quite cordial. Everyone in our group enjoyed dinner well enough, redfish was flavorful and cilantro rice very good. Crab enchiladas got a thumbs-up also. Appetizers: guacamole and queso fundido were also good. Food rates a 3.5 overall. Nice drink menu. We shared churros w/chocolate sauce and strawberry cake for dessert. Churros average; the cake was a forlorn slice the size and shape of a flattened doughnut, an odd texture, with cold strawberry purée and a couple berries on the plate with a scoop of cream and a very sticky chewy spoonful of maybe a caramel/nut mix (?). Skip the cake for sure. I rate Jose overall a 3 due to the intense noise level, blah desserts, and the food just not quite adequate to warrant a return.

Girls luncheon

By SunshineJello |

This was my 3rd visit to Jose, all of them at lunch... Food is good, servers are very nice but seems slow and they were not overly busy! I like being able to talk and not be rushed but at same time servers seem a bit distracted! The Usual Is a great way to start off if you like Margaritas, salads are great too.

Over priced Tex Mex with Angry staff

By Cynthia G |

Food was lacking flavor. Service was slow and the cherry on top was the manager Bella, She was rude to my clients & snapped at a table next to us because they complained the food was cold. She seems to be on a power trip. I was Embarrassment with my clients & felt bad for the table next to me, they Seemed like a nice family.

Yummy Brunch

By leslie |

Lovely setting on an Oct Sunday for brunch. Bright and beautiful look. Good choices which were different from typical TexMex and I loved my grain power bowl w salmon. Very good portion w enough to share. We all had great meals and attentive servers.

Always Excellent

From the leadership, executive chef, staff, service, food and drinks, this place understands customer service and is stellar each and every time. A not-to-be-missed stop in Dallas, TX!!

A Different Kind of Mexican Restaurant (in a good way)

By Berrythree |

Jose, has a different look, feel and flavor than most Mexican restaurants in Dallas. It is brighter and more modern. If has more urban feel. And, most important, the food is different and creative. The guacamole was very good and the street corn excellent to start. The salsa with the chips is hot and smoky. For the main courses, or group ordered the chicken enchiladas, the Park Cities enchiladas, the steak and I had the seafood poblano. All were very good. My seafood poblano was stuffed full of fresh fish of various kinds in a white sauce, the pepper grilled and then all served in a tomato sauce to cool down the spice. It was wonderful. No room for desert after these substantial meals. This is worth a visit for a change of pace. Service was good.

I’m lovin’ Lovers Lanes these days!

By raven46 |

You can feel the energy as you pull up to Jose. The luxury cars all facing you as you walk across the valeted car park. The spare and retro modern shed of a building is all white and crisp. A full wall mural of tiles occupies the far wall. A sea foam green bar demands attention as you enter and gives back with skillful margaritas and creative smoky mezcal cocktails. While you enjoy your cocktails with chips and salsas you will savor the house made chipotle salsa. Menu is not large but well conceived. I had the highland park enchiladas. Beef tips in a chipotle cream sauce with a bit of warmth. Beautifully plated. My date had the vegetarian potato tacos. Equally flavorful. This is a loud place. No reservations. Expect to wait. Not you typical Tex-Mex but traditional and re-interpreted Mexican dishes. Modern interior that reminds me of Telaquepacque outside of Jalisco. Is Lovers Lane becoming Dallas’ Sunset Strip with this eatery and Hudson’s? Can we expect other clever eateries to come to this old strip that caters to the Park Cities?

crisp, clean, comfortable

By kim b |

excellent food and service, really good craft cocktails. i had the salmon/avocado app, brussel sprouts and a delicious frothy drink with bourbon and blackberries. tried my friend's ceviche and queso with chorizo-delicious. decor was modern and bright with comfortable chairs and nice lighting. service was attentive and professional, valet was friendly. will definitely return.

Phenomenal

By daddyandpapa |

Absolutely love this place! The ingredients are fresh and the service is fantastic if you want to go out for some great Mexican style food this is where I would choose.

No thank you Jose

By Tami K |

Over priced and very small portions. Will not go back. Chile relent was the size of a coffe cup and thin as an egg. Steak was $10 extra and was just a few small pieces of steak.

Great menu. Fun atmosphere.

By 937larrym |

Love the options for cocktails, appetizers and entrees. Service was good. Always a little busy but that adds to the atmosphere.

Nice patio but poor service

By Ql1 |

We were told it would be 45 min wait on a Friday night, but luckily it didn’t take that long. Was a little hard to make eye contact with a bartender to get a drink while we waited for a table outside on the patio. Server was friendly but must have had too many tables... we asked another waiter to take our order. With a busy hip restaurant, service needs to be stepped up a notch... they need to hire more servers! Red snapper was good and healthy!

Not great

By Scott B |

I live in the neighborhood and really want to like this restaurant. I had enough bad experiences that I have not been back for 4 months. Wanted to give it another chance today thinking that maybe they had fixed some of the issues. Unfortunately it is even worse and I will not be going back. Seems like a bad management issue as everything seems off. Specifically, a simple request to make the guacamole without the roasted corn was a negative. At these prices you would think they would be glad to make you some fresh guac! Service was painfully slow. The weird part was once we finally ordered, all 6 dishes came out within 3-5 minutes. Fresh? I don’t think so. I don’t write reviews but this was so bad I had to comment.

Would never go back!

By christine s |

I had been to this place a little less than 1 year ago and it was excellent. Unfortunately I could never say the same again. The indoor restaurant being full and very loud, we opted to sit outside. Though there were 5 tables available along the banquet, we were told they all were reserved for a group of 15. 5 minutes later a couple sat down at one table, 10 minutes later, another couple sat down, the 15 guests actually were sitting behind us! The food ( I had the Park Cities enchilada) was definitely thrown quickly on the plate, (any taco diner would have done a better job!), it was not hot, the meat, tenderloin, was way overcooked and the cheese inside the enchilada was forgotten. The server, though, was very nice (hence she got her 25% tip). As with any place, the first and last impression counts, neither was remotely what one would expect from a place like Jose. Fortunately, Dallas has plenty of excellent and most of all friendly Mexican restaurants, while I would give this one a 1*, Mesero's around the corner would get a 5*.

We keep trying...only to be disappointed.

By jangrote |

In the past, the service was horrible. It would take an hour and a half for lunch while the staff sat nearby eating lunch. Well the service has gotten better but the food is horrific. We tried three times to get something edible to no avail. The cevichi tasted like cat food, the avocado soup tasted like a jar of Mortons salt and the watermelon salad looked like it came from Golden Corral. At least the cocktails were good. Go back? No. Too many tries.

OK Mexican Upscale

By rafos |

Good enough service and good food. The Margaritas were good as well. Nice ambiance. There is so much traditional Mexican that is not as expensive as here. The Mole was good, the enchiladas as well. Delicious Carnitas and Fish tacos. Nice upscale restaurant.

Tremendous Food, Even Better Service

By msudawg12 |

I cannot say enough about our experience at Jose, and the best part of it was our server. He was so friendly and helpful the entire night and smiling ear to ear. He was awesome. The food was just as good. The seasonal aguachile appetizer was a stand out. It is a must try and changes every week. I also highly recommend the halibut. It was prepared perfectly but the real kicker was the butternut squash mole and brussells sprouts it was served over. Soooo Good.

So bad

By Y2721UAphil |

Don’t even think about it...the worst! Ignored after seating for fifteen minutes, food ...finally...cold. Second glad of wine, no chance. Families shoo-ed their kids to play at our table. Management/wait staff: not in sight!

Food not vey good at all.

By DayTrip40284323683 |

Excellent customer service, but I do not recommend food. Enchiladas where too dry and no taste. Pozole was not good at all, too many spices. First bad experience.

Great food for brunch - but weird service

By TallTexan75229 |

We made reservations for Jose this past Sunday at noon. When we walked in, there was confusion at the hostess stand for a party ahead of us, but when they finally figured it out, I told them my name and reservation. She asked "inside our patio" and I told her "patio" which was already on the reservation. She told me it would be a few minutes to they can set up the table (party of 3). The couple behind us then went to the hostess, same deal except they didn't have a reservation, and she promptly sat them at a 4 top on the patio. WTF? Why do they get the table that is ready but we had to wait? Anyway, it was just weird. When we were seated the service was very slow. It took a while before our server even came over to say hello. The chips and salsa also took a while to get there. The restaurant wasn't slow but it wasn't packed either, so this was confusing. Now the good part. THE FOOD! I ordered the benedict and it was outstanding. I ordered the sausage, which they actually put in the benedict and not on the side. Excellent, great take on Hollandaise, super flavorful potatoes. The black beans were just ok (under seasoned), but I can't say enough good things about the rest. So good! The chips/salsa were also excellent. I love their tomatillo salsa and their red is great too. One friend had the same dish that I did and the other had something else which he also said was very good. When it was time to pay, the server had an iPad and does everything paperless. It's cool because you can see it all and then have it do the math for your tip for you. But then there was no communication and no receipt. She didn't ask if we wanted a copy, I didn't see an option to enter an email for a receipt, and there was no "thanks bye" or anything. She picked up the iPad off the table and walked away. She was friendly when she spoke to us but again, the service was just weird. The kitchen has it going on but the front of the house needs work. I'd definitely come back but a restaurant of this caliber is lacking up front.

Great Experience!

We went for dinner and it was really Amazing! I recommend the Calamari, Gucamole, Queso Panela and the Paella! Our waiter Chris gave us a Great Service! Great ambiance! We will return for sure!

Awesome

By kimhillcrest |

Had a business lunch at Jose and we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The staff was great and the food was awesome. The manager even came by to say hi! I highly recommend you check Jose out and I suggest you ask for Rosa, she’s outstanding. 😋

A fresh, creative and very thoughtful take on mexican food!

By Abroad_with_Ash |

Very lively and fun atmosphere, nice servers and some of the best Sangria in Dallas :). Will definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

Delish

By Ash |

We picked this place off Eater 38 when we were in Dallas, where we rarely visit. We loved the menu which is succinct yet varied with unique offerings. Not at all your standard TexMex. Loved the red salsa, so deep, rich and smoky. You could tell the other diners were also happy to be there and the staff was friendly and chatty (except, oddly, the young hostess). Reasonable prices and an excellent mescal cocktail too.

Poor management

By Elizabeth M |

Because we had a large party of 11 from out of town, I talked with someone at Jose by phone three times to confirm our dinner reservation, indoors at two separate tables. When we arrived, they insisted that our reservation was for outside (100 degrees that day) and there was nothing they could do. Terrible customer service. Fortunately, we found Neighborhood Services just down the street, where we had a wonderful meal, drinks, and service.

Grown up Tex-Mex Crowd Pleaser

By Aitele |

Quietly confident alternative presentations of Tex-Mex faves in an airy non-pretentious indoor and outdoor space. Preparations so good you can easily differentiate the variety of tastes. Good-natured and very well-informed servers. Deserts arty and yummy. Take friends so you can savor the excellent range.

Great Spot!

By wwfrench |

Love the interior of this restaurant and the great indoor/outdoor space! Love the large bar in the middle! Cool interior The drinks are amazing! Great margaritas !! The food was beautifully presented and very tasty! Service was excellent ! Reservations recommended at this popular restaurant !!

Excellent Tex Mex in Dallas

By JimmyGanno1 |

We have continued to enjoy Jose since it opened last year. The addition of some tacos to their menu earlier this year has been a game changer. The margaritas are outstanding. Restaurant has a great vibe. Salsas, guacamole outstanding. The add of tacos has this up in our top 2-3 Tex Mex restaurants in Dallas. Really good spot. Enjoy!

Hits and Misses

By Sam L |

Great, energetic atmosphere with very good and friendly service. There were hits and misses on the food, but, for the most part, it exceeded expectations. The short ribs were wonderful--tender, flavorful and accompanied by creamy polenta. The big disappointment of the night was the guacamole. One would think that this dish should be a no brainer, but it was chalky, pasty and almost completely flavorless. Perhaps it was just bad avocados, but you have to wonder how this could be such a miss when other selections were so good. I would definitely return here, but I know what not to order next time.

Say hey to Jose!

By Victoria |

First visit was a on a recommendation from friends and what a great suggestion! We hit the Saturday Brunch. My wife had the Park Cities Enchilada and I had the Salmon Brunch Baguette. Both were delicious! Service was great as well as the ambiance. We’ll be back for dinner sometime soon!
