Good memories

We were in town to meet our baby. Visited twice while we were here ... loved the Luke rolls! Will be back when we finalization of our baby’s adoption.

Great pizza

By 0415_wanderlust |

Visited here with lots of family. All enjoyed the pizza here... The crust is thin and very flavorful. Our calamari was ok but nothing to rave about. We would certainly go back and stick with the pizza.

Delicious food

By texaskaren68 |

Always packed at lunch time, this restaurant serves up generous servings of yummy Italian food at a great price. The pizza slices fill up the entire plate, and the pasta servings are almost enough for two. Lunch specials come with a salad and a drink. You won't leave hungry.

YUMMY!

By Latonia H |

From the moment you walk in.... It's a great experience! It smells so good and "Italian"! The fettuccine Alfredo is the best I have ever tasted. I saved some to bring home . I Wanted to share w/ my son . But, I ate the leftovers before he could! (I'm not proud of that)

Its freezing

By Bill C |

Apparently using the heating in the restaurant is not particularly part of the plan for the patrons. San Antonio was having one of its few cold snaps, it was in the low 50s, we decided to have lunch at Julian's, it was really cold inside and the staff said the heating doesn't work very well! Seriously? I know it doesn't get that cold often, but fix the heater! It should be noted, every customer was wearing their coats! Makes you wonder where else they are skipping corners?

Fundraiser

By Kathleen73 |

My husband and I were asked if we would support our grandsons' Lacrosse team and being the family left in town while they were on spring break. We said sure we'll give it a whirl! Awesome spot off the beaten track but well worth the hunt! Cute decor with red and white tablecloths, patio seating available. Italian delights, pizza of course, stromboli, calzones, salad, spaghetti with delicious meatballs, mostacholi, rigatoni to name a few, I chose chicken piccata (yum!) with a side salad with Italian dressing...lovely, my date had the spaghetti and meatballs wonderful! Beer and wine available! Enjoy!!

Great relaxed neighborhood Italian Eatery

By Andrew Grove |

Has become a regular on our rotation. Great relaxed atmosphere and good service. The Meatball and Italian subs are my favorite but the pizzas are also very good. Pizza rolls for an appetizer are a meal by themselves. A carafe of wine and a sub will put you in a food coma for the night. Really like the vibe!

Old School Italian & Pizza

By satraveller3507 |

This is an old school Italian restaurant and Pizzeria. You order at the counter when you come in and then find a table. The pizza is always delicious and the wine pours are generous. Always a line on weekends.

it's good!

By pilesoflaundry |

This review is for the new location on New Brunsfels ave, it's not up here on tripadvisor yet. It's next to cvs. It's inexpensive and the food is very good. The food came out really fast. The bread was very fresh too. I will go back.

Good pizza friendly service

By Debbie8a |

Good pizza and service is friendly. The salad was good, would have been better with homemade ranch not bottled.

Counter Order? Really?

By Michael D H |

Fine for some but I am underwhelmed. It's a shame nobody mentioned this. We need more Italians in this berg.

Great Pizza, Nice Ambiance

By Redlotus78 |

My husband and I wanted to try something new so we went to Julian's based on reviews we had read. The place is cute and cozy and perfect for couples and families. I thought it was a little strange that you order at the counter when you first walk in but it wasn't that big of a deal. My husband got one the regular pizzas and loved it. I ordered the Sicilian which is a large square pizza with a thick crust and it was delicious. Yes, we each ordered an entire pizza for ourselves, no compromises when it comes to pizza. I was disappointed with the wine selection. I thought it was overpriced with only a few mediocre options. Overall Julian's was great and we'll be back for sure.

Rude

By Diana V |

We usually would call in our order so that once we got their we would just pay for it an eat it as we don't have a lot of time from our lunch break, so we were not able to according to Tina the manager they are not to do that as we did in the past we decided to just call it for pick up then I usually also would ask for garlic bread now they charge extra wow so that being said we picked up our order went back to our work only to find that one of our orders was missing we went back only to have them point to were our bag was at no apologies or nothing won't go there again :(

Great place!

By aaron m |

We stumbled across this jewel. Dann good food. Pizza was to notch. Salad was great. Nice staff and cute place. Gotta get back soon.

Almost a 4

By Christy B |

The counter ordering is a bit strange given the fact that there is a hostess but I can see that it's probably because there are servers that bring the food to the table and not actual waiters. The place is decently clean (bathrooms) and the hostess did answer our questions regarding the menu options. Now to the food -- better than most pizzerias-- it's all thin crust but if you order one with a lot of toppings it will be soggy. The salad was fresh but the lettuce was the kind that's usually reserved for garnishing. The pizza is served up hot and the pasta was tasty -- almost a 4 rating but falls short on flavor and creativity.

Great food, great atmosphere

By ltrobhughes |

I'm from Chicago, and I love pizza. Even though the pizza wasn't deep dish, it's just really great food.

Great place for anything

By Asha7403 |

This little place is just down the road from my house. The workers are so nice and treat you like your in there own big Italian family. My sister had her homecoming diner here and there were also tons of people from here school there to.The food is also amazing, but the desserts are even better.Come try this great little place!

Little bit of East Coast flavor in San Antonio

By Melissa P |

We had a small group go there for lunch. The place was packed and there was a wait. You would think it was a Friday night, not a Tuesday lunch. The staff is very attentive and management is definitely hands-on. They have some nice affordable lunch specials. I had the chicken parmesan with a side Caesar salad. The salad was really good - everything tasted so fresh. The chicken was good as well, on a bed of spaghetti. Man, I just wanted to take a nap that afternoon... NOT go back to work. This would be great for a date or special family lunch as well.

Great food and good times!

By Scott S |

We've stopped in a few times on Friday nights to enjoy the live music, pizza, and other dishes. The food is great, the desserts are great, and the beer and wine selection is good. When they get busy the ordering process takes a little getting used to, but it works and is worth it.

Quick dinner before movie turned out to be not so quick

By Angela S |

We stopped in to get a quick bite, waited too long for our food. The restaurant didn't seem that busy. I only ordered cheese sticks and a side Greek salad, hubby ordered a calzone. Food was all good, but I've had better Greek salads. The star of our meal was the marinara sauce. It was outstanding. I've heard good things about this place and they serve pizza by the slice for lunch so we'll try again at lunch sometime.

Good Pizza Pie

By Josue C |

I have a big bias, when it comes to pizza. I come from New Haven, CT where pizza is just divine, so I can be a snob when it comes to pizza. While visiting San Antonio, we decided to try a pie for dinner. To my surprise it was a very good pie of pepperoni, far better that what I expected. Julian's not only make a good pizza pie, they make a pretty good dishes such as, chicken parmesan and salads. The servers were good and friendly. The restaurant does have an upbeat atmosphere. The price is bit steep for pizza. Overall, Julian's is decent place to get your Italian fix in San Antonio.

Very good food

By fashionphotographer1 |

We used to eat here multiple times a week. Great portions, great service, and very very good food. Italian food is never my first or second choice, but this place was. The food was always fresh and tasty. Loved the service here. I miss going here. Changed our diet, so no more pastas or breads. Maybe we'll have a cheat meal soon. Loved this place. Even the owner is awesome.

Decent but great

By wick1979 |

Salads were nice and fresh. Ordering style is a pain when you are drinking beers or wine. The pizza itself was good but under cooked and soggy in the middle. Could of used more time in the oven but decent flavor overall. Prices were very good. With drinks, salads and pizza for $30. Would go again but ask for the pizza to be well done.

Great Place for Italian food, but hard to find

By TexasTravler45 |

We joined family for my grandson's birthday. We were given directions but had a hard time finding this place. it at the corner of West Ave but is situated along the side of a mexican restaurant with a very small sign, but boy is it worth it. We ordered a pizza with a coke and wine. the others in the group ordered many other dishes. The hostess, waitress' and servers are top notch. The pizza was very good. we noticed the other's salads we very large and looked great. the entres were huge servings. We finally realized that this restaurant is operated by the daughter-in-law of the founder of Bambinos. no wonder the food is so good. they also have the same deserts that Bambinos was famous for. The place was very busy the whole 2 hours we were there. Make reservations!

My granddaughter ‘s lunch party

By Jj G |

Had a family lunch for my granddaughter’s f baptism celebration. Place is nice and homie. You order before you sit down. Got the lasagna and was very tasty, also came with a Cesar salad. Staff was very attentive to our party. We liked it so much that we got home and ordered pizza for dinner and picked it up. We will be back 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😋

A nice lunch and no hassle!

By Donald H |

This is the kind of pizza/Italian restaurant that is a no fuss, good food, decent service, and a welcome respite. We ordered at the counter, got our drinks, picked our table and waited. In a very reasonable time the food arrived. The four of us all ordered different lunches, they arrived together. Each was well prepared and tasty. My wife had the Sicilian salad, one friend had egg plant parmigiana, another calzone, and I went for spaghetti and meatballs. We were all pleased with our orders. My meatballs were quite large and the sauce was very good, slightly sweet. We all agreed we could return again.

Exceptional Food and Service

By James S |

As the only non-San Antonio person in our group, the decision to come to Julian's was an easy one for those who knew where to have a great lunch. I had the meat lasagna, which was outstanding. The portion was huge, which means I get the privilege of finishing this me tomorrow. This is now a must visit locale for me when I am in town. Highly recommended!

I really liked this place.

By Charles L |

Went on a Friday evening with family (5 adults, 3 kids). The place was crowded so we had about a 30 minute wait. It would have been shorter if we were a couple or foursome. I had baked rigatoni with Italian sausage which was cooked perfectly with cheese brown and crusty. I tried our sons pizza which was very good as well.

Outstanding Italian Food that is always Consistent & Friendly Service!

By JohnO |

Julian's is my personal favorite spot to eat homemade Italian Food...I highly recommend the Italian Sub Sandwich, the Pizza & my wife says the Lasagna is the best in town. We eat here all the time & the food is ALWAYS great...really one of our favorite places to eat in SA!

Great Neighborhood Italian Restaurant

By searcher42 |

This Italian Restaurant is a hidden gem. The food is superb and the service is excellent. It is always crowded so arrive early for lunch or dinner

Better pizza than pasta

By sidebones |

My husband and I were really wanting pasta, but we found that the pizza here would've been the better option. The pasta was just OK. We also had the calamari, which was good. As we found to be the case at many places we ate in San Antonio, you order your food at a counter and get your drinks yourselves, but they bring the food out and we were checked on once. A bit confusing to know whether to tip anything, which is a pet peeve of ours.

Good pie

By velvetfog32 |

First time here, enjoyed the veggie pizza. Should have ordered the medium instead of large. Very good pie, will return.

Overalll the food is good

By Travelingadventures2 |

I've noticed when I stop by to pick up lunch, the cashiers who take my order are not friendly the majority of the time. I ordered a spaghetti and meatball meal and asked for extra sauce. The cashier never told me that there would be an extra charge, she just added the extra charge and gave me a total, nor do they give you a detailed receipt. The casher did not welcome me nor did she make me feel good about visiting this restaurant. Overall the food is good, but the side salad needs improvement.

Julian's Family Feast without the Heat

By Clare C |

The Solis family saved us! With extended family visiting from out of town, we needed to feed a small herd but didn't want to cook during these hot summer days. So we ordered one of the best meals from the bulk menu. The fabulous meat lasagna came with an incredible salad and fresh bread. The ample portions allowed for seconds - and this was with the smaller tray order. Great food - fair prices - and no family squabbles!

Always good and fresh Italian food!

By kpjimmy |

I love the food here. Being from NY, Italian is one of the staples of eating out. This is a gem in SA. The sauce is perfect in everything they make. Also the lunch specials are also amazing for the price! You will see why this place is so busy during lunchtime! Besides the main courses, you have to make room for a Huey. They offer a chocolate and vanilla versions. I prefer the vanilla and it's a decadent dessert for the senses! It's like hot chocolate on a winter's day, but you can have this any time. Especially with the great coffee they offer.

Great old fashioned pizzeria

By angie O |

Julian's has been one of our favorite go to places for the past decade. We know we will get delicious and authentic italian food. The restaurant is cozy with red and white checkered table cloths, and the staff is super friendly. The pizza is incredibly good, with the best crust I've ever had. You can customize your toppings. They also serve traditional Italian dishes, salads and deserts. They have a nice wine selection as well. We have taken many visiting family members there for celebrations and everyone loves it!

This Gringo's idea of a good Italian cafe

By Bud L |

My wife and I have enjoyed this place for lunch and dinner several times. We both enjoy the FRESH green salad that accompanies most meals. I often find chicken breasts to be dry and/or tough but the chicken here has always been tender and juicy. My favorite dish here is lasagna. Though I'm not a regular pizza eater I have had the pizza and it was great. It also seems to be very popular with the regulars. I also like the decor. Nothing fancy but my idea of what an Italian cafe should look like, checkerboard table cloths & all.

Worth the visit

By srvtx |

Very good food and nice casual atmosphere..wine and beer available. Aleays stop in when Im in the neighborhood.

Awesome Pizza!

By Jeff00097 |

They have great pizza, just don't order more than one slice or you will be taking it home...the slices are huge!

Unfriendly MGR Alamo Heights location

By Happy09bear |

Dear Julian---We are trying to support you in Alamo Heights because you are locally owned, but you have to do something about the female mgr that works here. She is rude and downright MEAN. No soft skills at all. No eye contact, no response to questions. She doesn't represent your restaurant well so make her shape up or get out! We will try again, once more........

Haven't had Italian in forever!

By L R K |

Prices are great. Not expensive. Kind of weird to order. You order first at the register and pay beforehand. Seat yourself and they bring all the delicious food to your table. The ambience is great. Reminds of a smaller Buca di Beppo if you've ate there before. Service was awesome. Good knowledge about menu items and recommendations.

So Very Good!!

By sazm42 |

Years ago we loved the restaurant, Boccone’s, and were so sad to hear that it closed. However, recently, thanks to San Antonio Restaurants, a Facebook group, I found that the family had opened Julian’s Italian Pizzeria. Visiting San Antonio this weekend, our family included it in our itinerary of things to do. So we’ll worth it! Our group of 12 greatly enjoyed all of our meals- 3 pizzas, a Stromboli, lasagna, chicken Alfredo, chicken parmigiana, and the calamari and fried mozzarella cheese stick appetizers. I wish we had room to try all their desserts! Another time. I’d highly recommend this. Keep in mind that you have to order at the counter, though. Well worth the visit as the food was some of the best Italian food I’ve had in a while!!

Great pizza

By Laura K |

Visited on a Tuesday night. Just flew into SA and fiancé recommended. Met another couple here for dinner. We ordered at the counter before being seated. House wine half off on Tuesday’s. Got two glasses of the house can and was tasty. We split a large Cesar’s salad and ordered and 16”(?) margarita (sp?) pizza. Friends/locals ordered 12” supreme. They (70 y/o, world travelers) said this was the best pizza they’ve had. The crust alone was amazing. Ours was awesome as well. Also ordered the baby Huey for dessert as fiancé dreams of this. To sweet for my liking but pizza was delish. The other dishes looks yum as well. Would definitely return.

Disappointing Dining Experience

By Charles |

Had dinner recently at Julian's Pizzeria on West Ave. On the occasion that we visited, the restaurant was half empty and we were able to select the table we wanted. I ordered spaghetti with meat sauce and my wife ordered a small pizza. We did not receive our order in a timely manner despite the fact that the restaurant was half full and that there were many empty tables. Also, the spaghetti that I ordered was very plain and hardly had any meat sauce. It was not what I had expected and in retrospect I should have mentioned it to the server. There was no follow up by any of the restaurant staff to ensure our satisfaction or simply to check to see if we needed anything else while we were eating. Overall, our dining experience at Julian's was disappointing. Both the food and service were below par compared to other Italian restaurants in San Antonio in the same price range as Julian's. We do not recommend Julian's to anyone who is looking for high quality dining with commensurate service.

That's a meatball!

By Hopeful05 |

My wife and I ordered a 14 inch meat pizza with pepperoni, ham, and meatballs. We ate 6 of the 8 slices and saved two for later. The meatballs on the pizza were marvelous! We used a $3 coupon on their website for signing up for their email club. Bring your appetite and enjoy!

Amazing food great atmosphere!

By Shan B |

This was our second visit to Julian's. We took our family, cousin visiting from San Diego and met other family members. Everyone raves about their food. I had eggplant Parmesan, hubby had chicken Parmesan, a few people had calzones. All portions were very large. Wine was a nice portion. Don't forget the dessert. Huey's are amazing!! We will definitely return. Neat fun authentic restaurant.

GREAT AMAZING PIZZA AND I LOVE THEIR LASAGNA

By Mbarros |

I enjoy Italian Food so I visit at least 5-6 italian restaurants a month. Julian's Pizzeria is a neighborhood restaurant with quality food. Great pizza and excellent service. Owner Julian and managers Marie and Tina are always helpful and available. This week alone I bought lasagna twice and I enjoyed the comments from my guests. They do have lots of dishes...pasta, pizza, and chicken, etc great veal as well. You order at the front desk and then you get a number and get any table available....busier times on Fridays and Saturdays and that can take a wait of 20-25 minutes....

Good Pizzeria

By SafetyDave1986 |

This restaurant is tucked in the back corner of a free-standing shopping center building. It is not listed on the directory sign for the shopping center, and my wife and I had a little trouble finding it. Inside, you place your order at a counter and servers bring the food to your table. The restaurant is small and navigating it can be a bit of an adventure. The food makes up for it, though. My wife and I ordered a large Pizza Tutto and were very happy with it. The pizza had about a half-inch of ingredients piled on it and was the best pizza either of us had eaten in a long time. A jazz duo plays every other Friday evening.

One of the best Italian restaurants in San Antonio.

By onroad2018 |

Always delicious Italian food. Pizza is excellent. The service is always speedy and friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. You can actually carry on a conversation. My family has celebrated many happy occasions there and I highly recommend them.

Head on radio ad that this was genuine Italian - NOT SO

By Backpack M |

This place is what Taca Bell is to genuine Tex-Mex food. No comparison. The pizza was horrible. You pick up a piece of pizza and it does a 'back flip' on you. Has no form to it. Just a guey piece of bread that you have to eat like a sandwich. Do not recommend!

Good, basic fare

By tag302 |

Our first visit was to meet another couple for a quick dinner. The atmosphere is average, but the service was good and attentive. The noise level was low enough to allow conversation. The menu had plenty of good, basic Italian food and favorites. My companion and I both had the Pasta Basilico with chicken. It was very buttery, almost more than enough, but not quite. Still good. As previously stated, this was our first visit, but will not be our last. Julian's is a good choice for basic, but tasty Italian food.

What a nice place to eat pizza

By 927donaldv |

My wife and I recently stopped by for pizza over the holidays. What a pleasant surprise. The pizza was wonderful. One of the best I have eaten in San Antonio.

marinara magnifico

By monica_k840 |

Came to this restaurant based upon reviews on trip advisor. Took a chance since there were only three reviews. Got here for a late lunch. I saw that the spinach ricotta gnocchi and the eggplant Parmesan were homemade. I ordered those. The entrees are accompanied by salad and a drink. The house Italian dressing is the only non-bottled dressing. I loved the balanced flavors of the spices, vinegar, and oil. I did not have to add any other seasoning. The bread is yeasty and chewy and so good! The thin outer crust was crunchy. I loved the marinara sauce. The eggplant slices were thin, lightly breaded with seasoned breadcrumbs, and fried yet not greasy. The gnocchi were dense, chewy, and very "basil-y," if eaten without the marinara. With marinara they tasted good. The texture of the gnocchi was much denser than I was expecting, but still had a great mouth-feel. The eggplant was so good, we returned the next evening. I much preferred the lunch entree compared with the dinner entree, because the slices of eggplant were much thicker at dinner. The full flavor of the lunch entree was more balanced with all the components figuring prominently. We also ordered the chicken piccata. The flavor of the sauce was lemony and buttery. The square slab of white (color) rubbery chicken was awful. The chicken was either frozen and nuked, or it had been used to make soup before being draped with sauce. It had not been sauteed prior to cooking in the sauce. Major fail. Perhaps it was our fault for ordering an entree not explicitly described as homemade.... There is also a funky, stinky/sour cheese smell that wafts in and out of consciousness. I will definitely order lunch eggplant Parmesan and pizza from here. But, I will probably not come back for dinner.

Lunch

By Michelle S |

OMG their lunch portions are unbelievable...the food was amazing. I had the Italian sub/salad combo. It was fresh bread, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes and perfect dressing! Great place for lunch and dinner!!!

Great Italian Restaurant

By Wizdum W |

My husband and I dined at this restaurant twice in one weekend. On our first visit, we had the lLasagna and Chicken Parmesan with Italian salads and bread. The entrees were fresh and delicious. We were so impressed with the food and service that we returned two days later to try the pizza. We were not disappointed. This is our new favorite Italian restaurant.

Best Pizza in Town!

By TexMex0 |

My family and I have gone to Julian's and we keep going back for more. I haven't had anything on their menu that isn't delicious. I'll start with their salads they give you a nice side salad that freshly made to order. The Meat Balls Sub was great and the sauce was very flavorful, we also love their pizza crust everything is made fresh daily. I 'll definitely be going back for more. Check out their lunch specials 11-3 includes a small salad and drink.

Excellent every time

By srvtx |

Great food every time I have been. Very nice atmosphere. Casual and relaxed. Superb customer service. I have yet to be disappointed.
