What a cool whole in the wall with some really friendly girls and bartenders

By Thomas M |

I had saw this place mentioned on the TV show Best Bar In America (LA episode) while on a Delta flight into LA. Thought I'd give it a try since there is no cover to watch pretty girls dance with skimpy outfits to music of their own choosing (no DJ - whoa hoo!). It is always appreciate if you place a couple dollar bills (or more if you're a big spender) on the dance area. The beer selection was a bit lacking, but they have a decent full bar so you can douse yourself with whatever you want. Don't think they had any food service. The entire lineup of girls I saw, on a Tuesday afternoon/early evening (4pm-6pm) was top notch. And in between their performances they would sit on the seats next to you and make small talk and generally keep the place in a great spirit. ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOGRAPHY - I did manage to step outside to grab a photo with one of the talented ladies, at her insistence (which is always flattering). Would go back in a hot minute. Although the location is a bit off the beaten path, you will be surrounded by Thai food places EVERYWHERE.

Drinks and Girls

By CaribbeanFan |

Funny little pseudo-strip club where you can have a bite to eat, have a drinks with friends and watch some girls..

I really wanted to give JCR a better rating...

I love the idea, and love the brand. Bartenders were absolutely lovely, but there was this bouncer who was really rude to me and my friends. I know that being a bouncer is a really hard job but you don't need to be rude about it. Yes we were drinking, but we were having a good time, and weren't bothering anyone else. We survived without getting kicked out. The drinks were strong and easy to get. The burlesque show was a lot of fun, like a topless strip club but the girls can actually dance, and they don't take their tops off! Worth a visit, but justt make sure to watch out for the bouncers. If you are overly lively, this may not be your place.

Tiny Dive Bar Meets Burlesque

After hearing about this hole in the wall place for years I was thrilled to finally go with friends while celebrating a birthday. If I could sum up my experience in one word it would be DISAPPOINTING. I arrived at around 10:30 pm on a Saturday and waited in line outside the venue for almost 2 hours. My experience grew worse when 12 people were all able to cut in front of the line since they bought Jumbo's Clown Room t-shirts that cost $20 each. This was aggravating but I tried to stay optimistic despite the long wait. Once making it through the door it took seconds before I was slammed into a corner (which is where I ended up staying since all the seats were taken). I could barely move from all the drunkies squishing me while they screamed and cheered with cat calls. I was tempted to give two stars, but I have to give some credit to the burlesque dancers who did a fantastic job. I stayed for about 7 shows where I was pleased to watch a diverse group of girls in all shapes and sizes dancing to all genres of music. The room is extremely small, dark, and noisy, but the talent is great. I'm not someone who goes to strip clubs so I can't compare the two, but Jumbo's did remind me of a cleaner version of the Red Light District in Amsterdam, minus the nudity. Am I happy I gave it a try? Sure... but let's just say I will not be coming back.

YASSSSSSSSS!

I am so happy my friends took me here on my last visit to LA. I hate strip clubs but I love dive bars. The crowd and staff here were far from a strip club atmosphere. This was a really cool hang out scene and we had a great time. The classic rock music was awesome. I appreciate the realness of the staff as they were not Barbie doll type but naturally beautiful and individual characters. There were all types of people in the crowd n the night we went and I would go back again for a night of "different" kind of fun!

cheeky fun & cheap beer!

Jumbo's is an LA staple! Its so much fun! It is a gogo bar so there is no nudity. Its a great place to meet friends, have a birthday or other fun event. Go with an open mind, a stack of ones and have some fun!

A jumbo amount of fun!

Jumbo Clown Room is a located on Hollywood Blvd a few miles from the Walk of Fame. I believe the area may be called Thai Town. It sits in a small shopping complex next to an asian restaurant. It is easy to miss while driving. There is little parking in the shopping complex. We drove the streets in the residential neighborhood looking for a spot. We visited on a Thursday around 8:30pm. Seating was still available. No cover charge and drinks were affordable. Bar staff was friendly. Dancers are grouped into sets. We stayed for two groups. This is not a nude club. The dancers wear lingerie or sexy street wear. Their talent is erotic dancing and they do it well. The later group of ladies are more experienced than the early group but all were entertaining. They dance for tips so don't go watch unless you can spare a few ones. Patrons consisted of male and females. As a female, I felt welcome and safe. The bar and bathrooms were very clean. This is not a shiny new bar but a great little dive bar. If back in L.A., we'll stop by Jumbo's again. FYI, this bar was featured on an episode of Anthony Bourdain's TV show...how else whould I have know about it!

Perfect bucks party venue

By TorrinM |

I was looking for something different for our group of friends traveling from Australia to celebrate my best friends bucks party. We hit the jackpot with Jumbos clown room. A type of strip / burlesque bar with beautiful extremely talented women showing off their acrobatic talents. Would recommend to anyone looking for a different experience in Hollywood!

Funky Fun

By Joseph O |

I love this place. Its one of the more longstanding dives in the ever-changing city of Los Angeles. The drinks are reasonably priced, the dancers fun and tasteful (however, they will try to milk you for drinks, and are pretty shameless about it, LOL!), and the atmosphere fun! I wouldn't spend a whole night here, but its a great way to start or end your night out.

cool place to hang out

Cool Trendy place to hang out watched NBA playoffs cheap drinks, fun staff

Awesome Fun

By Southwell29 |

This is a great place to hang out, music is great and the dancers are out of this world! Jam packed on a Thursday night!

Great place if you want to have a huge goof.

Jumbos is a place to be with the freaks, geeks, dregs, scalawags and heathens. I also loved every minute of it, just what I expect from a Hollywood bar. Saw the dancing girl coming down on dope and she basically fell asleep. Again everything was perfect right down to the little Mexican man out in the parking lot actually sitting in the truck of an old LTD watching soccer on a tv with a 50 foot extension cord most likely plugged in with out the owners knowledge.

Fantastic Experience!

You really get a feel for LA and how to have fun in this very unique establishment. The dancers are amazing and the music is awesome. Great way to spend a night out in LA.

Fully Clothed Burlesque House

By Gabriella A |

It’s a strip joint but the girls dance clothed. They might take off a bathrobe but that’s about it. But you don't go to Jumbos for nudity, you go to jumbos for the clowns! THE CLOWNS! Oh lordy! It’s amazing in here: Clown drawings and paintings and red lights and red vinyl! Innernetz photos don’t do it justice. Drinks are a little weird and not super cheap. Sick with beer or the classics. The dancers are nice and friendly. Be sure to tip a couple of bucks per dance. This is a great and totally unique place to stop in for a quick couple of drinks.

Authentic grunge in LA

By canyonmom |

This bar is a favorite with the grunge hipsters in LA. The girls are tough (they dance in thong underwear and bras but still sexy), the crowd is cool and the drinks are super strong. It's always crowded. It's an LA landmark, lots of fun!

A Must!!

Great drinks, friendly service, the place was packed to the gills and people were friendly! It was also easy to get a cab when we wanted to leave.

An interesting place to visit (Adults Only)

By Mechafredzilla |

Keep in mind that this is a place where adult women dance to modern and classic rock songs. It's an interesting dot in the LA landscape and one that is frequented by rock stars and movie stars. How much enjoyment you will get out of it will vary on your interest in seeing really attractive women in bikinis and tiny outfits dance on stage. What cannot be denied is their athleticism and choreography i.e. them girls bust their buns when they on stage. It is also nice that, given it's not a strip club, there's none of the seedy aftertaste or pushy demands for "private" dances. Come in, have a beer, watch a dance and enjoy.

Right up my alley! Good cold beverages and top notch dancers.

By keith c |

This place separates the novices from the professional dancers. You MUST be a pro to dance here and must have talent. No nudity for distraction, just high quality dancing. I liked the dive bar vibe and old school decor. Go early or you will be waiting in line. One of the bartenders was somewhat unpleasant, which can be expected due to the volume and patrons, but other staff were great. Interesting crowd, groups, hipsters, men and women all enjoying themselves. a MUST see if you like this type of entertainment!

A favorite dive

By Christy H |

I love my LA dive bars but this one takes drinking and strip bars to a whole new level. You have to see it to believe it.

Great night out

By briony_beckett |

Went for a drink and after reading reviews online. Had to line up for about 30 mins at 10pm but was worth the wait. Small bar with limited capacity. 2 drink minimum but we easily did that just because we were so entertained we stayed for hours. The girls don't strip as such, except for a few nominal outer layers, stay in their underwear. The real show is their acrobatics and timing. Skill and control is beyond amazing. Well worth a visit

Good fun

By Ken D |

I went on a Tuesday night (my last night in LA): good fun, there’s no nudity if that’s what you’re looking for, but all of the girls were good looking and stylish, seemed to be enjoying themselves and there was no air of sleaze or exploitation about it. There was no queue to get in and the views of the action on stage were good for a couple of hours (I sat at one of the tables towards the back of the bar) but then a few folk decided they just had to stand right in front of the stage leaving me with nothing to see but glimpses and reflections in the mirrors at the back of the stage. I’d go again but just maybe not on a Friday or Saturday night as I’d imagine that’s when it would get super packed.

Dancers = Awesome, Bouncers = Awful

By Stay37904953934 |

Went on Halloween, bought drinks and made it rain all night (with the exception of the last 10 minutes because I ran out of cash). The ladies were incredible, such amazing dancers. The skits were hilarious and they were all so good. Since we had a 2 hour trip home, my friend and I needed to use the bathroom after the last dance. The bouncers barged in twice and hurled misogynistic slurs at us: “get the f*ck out, b*tch...” etc etc while beating on the one stall with one of us waiting outside it. They forced my friend out while I was still in the stall and once again one of them burst into the bathroom and called me names until I left, and he continued to bellow at and frighten me until I was all the way out of the front door. I’ve never seen such disgusting treatment in my life of a well-paying customer. Both stars are for the dancers, three lost because of the abusive bouncers. Never going back.

Neighborhood bar with dancing ladies

By Sunchaser8 |

I've always said that Jumbo's is where "strippers go to die", due to the eclectic parade of dancers that perform here. It's really a bar that happens to have a stage with a mirror behind it. It's so small, and on the weekends it becomes a hipster hangout with a line out the door. It's not really a strip club, and there's no DJ (the ladies select their music from a jukebox). They don't serve food, but they do serve strong and cheap drinks. I would still consider this a landmark in the hollywood bar scene, and a "must do" for out of towners.
