Amazing sushi in Chicago’s Lincoln Park

By Jonathan A |

Juno is amazing. They have great ingredients and good attention to detail. Their rice is a great balance of sweet and vinegary which is a fantastic foundation for the fish. I recommend the smoked sushi pieces and the Juno king. Ask for anything special and trust that chef will only put high quality food on his menu. There is a quaint front room and a gorgeous dining area. The hostess always makes us feel like we’ve come home.

Great food, but a family of four can't afford it.

By anderson213 |

This is a trendy sushi place in a major metro area--so expect a great atmosphere, with incredible service. Unfortunately, this also implies that portion sizes are extremely small and each bite is costing the patron a lot (ALOT) of money. Is it worth it?--It depends upon motivation. A simple date night or an anniversary? Impressing a special someone? Birthday celebration?--Certainly, not just eating here after a movie or coming into town as a tourist. It's very good. The uni dish and the shooter were excellent. Same for the appetizer meatball and the scallop. The sushi, very good. The dessert truffles were just ok, for us, but other patrons might love them.--However, the price point is the debatable topic. Sadly, even though I will give this 4/5, it's also hard for me to recommend it, for paying so much, for so little actual food.

Excellent food

By Cubsfan_1974 |

I can't say enough good things about the sushi at Juno. Unique and delicious flavors. Everything was fresh. Interesting appetizers and cocktails, too. I mean, edamame is edamame, right? No. Best edamame I've had. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves creative (and traditional) sushi. They have maki, nigiri, sashimi, and hand rolls. And the size of the sushi is a little smaller than at most places, which I appreciated because it's not only easier to eat but I can try a few more options before getting full. Service was excellent, and the ambiance is modern and lively. With cocktails and appetizers, the bill for my husband and I was around $140. We expect sushi to be expensive and, in Lincoln Park, you're going to pay city prices, but it was worth it to us.

Explosion of taste - this was the best

By Paul M |

Unbelievable. From the street you would think Juno is deserted. But tucked away in the back is a dining masterpiece. All of the sushi, sashimi, nagiri, maki were created to give your taste buds an explosion of flavor. All was washed down with a champaign flute of Drunken Snapper saki. What a treat. We couldn't leave.

Best sushi of my life!!

By Junet S |

Juno was an unforgettable experience!! We were visiting Chicago and found Juno as one of the highest ranked sushi places. We arrived about two hours before they opened because we didn't check their hours but I am so glad we waited. As a huge sushi lover that has tried sushi bars all over the country I was blown away by the sushi at Juno. I was not hungry so I started with just the chef selection to share. After this i kept ordering and had at least three more rounds of dishes and it was all delicious. Highly highly recommend!!

Great food, well presented

By julio bruno |

We enjoyed our dinner, specially the King and Queen Nigiri. They ran out of Toro tuna, even though it was only 7.30 pm. They say they limit it (?) Service was good and prompt, except front desk. We were sitting at the bar drinking and were waiting for our friends to join us. The lady insisted that we needed to go to our table and not to wait at the bar! First, it is bad business when your clients, with a reservation, are spending extra money at the bar and two more were coming for more drinks. Second, the entrance bar was empty giving a bad impression because that is all you see. The dining room was full and lively, but you don't see that from outside. So why wouldn't you want some people to liven up things at the entrance and spend some money in the process? Were they rushing us to sell our table again? Maybe, but it made no sense to us. Dinner for 5 was around $500 with tip. We enjoyed it, but need some fine tuning.

Overpriced and overrated

By Beverly R |

The sashimi was fresh and tasty. The menu is very limited and the rolls are fair. The food is adequate and is overpriced. The place is overrated.

Fantastic experience

By T K |

Dinner here was indeed pricey, it was well worth it though. At the end of the meal I was not only satisfied by the food, but the experience as well. The chefs choice nigiri was amazing I enjoyed every piece of it thoroughly. It is served without soy sauce as the chef has already introduced a specific flavor to each piece. Overall a great experience.

what a flop and a sham!

By oyabunkuma |

We live in Southern California and often travel to Tokyo and eat Japanese food almost on a daily basis. We are also fans of Korean food. On this trip to Chicago, we looked forward to eating Japanese food at Juno because of their incredible reviews. So what happened?? What a con game Juno plays! It is not a Japanese restaurant. They do not serve Japanese food. What it is is a pseudo Korean Restaurant with a Japanese name. If you crave Japanese food, just steer clear of Juno. Nothing, and I do not exaggerate, nothing is authentic Japanese. Why name a restaurant with a Japanese name and advertise Japanese food, when nothing is Japanese?? The owners must be impressed with Japan, but they haven't followed through with the reality to the marketing. Want Japanese food---steer clear of Juno. Further, Juno's food is not Korean either. It is an unsuccessful attempt at Japanese. It's obvious that the bulk of people who go to Juno and write reviews don't know authentic Japanese food. I think the people who go to Juno and like the food and think they are eating Japanese food are in for an incredible treat and thrill when they visit an authentic Japanese restaurant anywhere in the U. S. and most particularly in Japan. What an sorely disappointing evening in Chicago.

Not up to par

By David Marino |

We eat sushi all over the country and found this not what we were hoping for. The room is beautiful and the service was good, but the sushi is just OK. All of the appetizers are beautifully presented, but tiny in size. They work well for maybe a single serving or for two people to share, but not more than that. The cucumber salad was good, but itty-bitty. The octopus appetizer was visually overcooked, and sort of soggy in texture. The seaweed salad was minuscule. Also, their regular rolls were tiny as well, including the salmon roll and tuna roll, and made us feel like we were sort of getting ripped off. The sashimi portions were much smaller than we usually get as well. They do have some interesting nonalcoholic beverages, but most sushi bars now have a nonalcoholic beer, and I was disappointed not to see that as an option. If I were looking for great sushi in town, I would keep looking elsewhere.

Gourmet Fusion

By MarshBruce |

Definitely five star. Gourmet Asian fusion cuisine. We ordered a number of items and let our very attentive waitperson determine the order of presentation. Stunning ambiance. The chef also offers special dinners with wine pairings upon 24 hours notice: which he refers to as a restaurant within a restaurant. As time goes on, I expect Juno to be on the gourmet foodies "must" list of Chicago locals and visitors from afar.

Great Japanese just north of downtown chicago

By CrazyShopper23 |

Group of 4, great Saturday evening. Grabbed a drink at the bar prior to dinner service. Friendly service at the table, a few suggestions from the wait staff and then we were on our way to enjoying a great range of dishes. The king & queen options were delicious- will be back again!

Gracious service, even greater food

By drifly77 |

Outstanding sushi! Vast selection, very fresh, eclectic flavors, terrific sauces.... simply a great culinary experience! Server was knowledgeable, helpful with appropriate suggestions... helped steer us to proper course selections. Able to describe flavors & tastes as we asked about different offerings on the menu.

A delicious Japanese experience

By BloomSpoons |

A unforgettable trip to Japan. All dishes are deliciously prepared. It is difficult to stop ordering. Special bonus for the Juno King and Queen! A place to visit for Japanese cuisine addicts

Very very good

By finnsdo |

Very innovative food selection. Great service, high attention to detail and recommendations from server. Expensive but worth the visit.

Sophisticated :Urban Japanese Cuisine

By Bruce F |

This is a casual Lincoln Park spot that offers outstanding sushi. After just a few bites, you quickly realize there is a very talented team of chefs in the kitchen. Everything is absolutely fresh, and flavors are expertly combined. Highly popular, which is an indication of the high quality of the food and service. Note: If you have children, take them. We were flanked on both sides by families with young children who were devouring everything put before them.

Best sushi and service

By FLKMS |

I live on the east coast and love sushi, but the best I ever had until this trip was Portland and Seattle. Juno was amazingly fresh, simple, elegant and impeccable service. Even if you are staying outside of Lincoln Park, you must travel in to dine here. You will not be disappointed.

Outstanding Japanese dining experience

By Robin973 |

We had an amazing dinner at Juno. We followed the recommendations from the waiter. the scallop appetizer was excellent, so was the king sushi . Then we shared the chef's choice sashimi. It was the best presented sushi plate I have ever seen and the quality and taste was wonderful.worth the price.

Amazing Sushi in Chicago

By Victoria L |

We had an amazing dinner at Juno in April. The atmosphere was inviting and the staff was the best. We have had sushi all over the U.S. and this is one of the best restaurants! Cannot wait to visit next time we are in Chicago.

Why did they not acknowledge our Anniversary.

By Jonathon G |

We have been together 33 years and were celebratign our 3 year anniversry of our marriage. I booked Juno after reading some reviews. I love an Omakase menu and have eatten them all over the world. I made clear they knew it was our anniversary celebration when I made the reservation. We had the Omakase dinner with the pairing of wine and Sake. The bill was over $500. The food was excellent and the paired drinks were very nice, there was only a 10 minute pause before dessert course when we did not have a drink in front of us. We may not be the youngest or cutest couple anymore. The place got very crowded with an attractive Lincolm Park crowd. We were the only ones having the Omakase. They did not seem to really like us, I know that sounds weird but I eat out alot and as I said I travel alot and eat at great restaurants. Maybe other places are faking it but I usually get great service and am made to feel special and welcomed. I did not get that vibe here at all. The chef made our sushi in front of us and did a nice job. He seemed to know many regualr customers and would fist bump them as they passed by the station. The only words or acknowledgement we got was a telling us what we were eatting and often that was done by the waitress. Our water was filled timely and they ran the room smoothly. I did see other people like the pretty girl next to us get alot of attention from the staff. When we left there was no goodby from the serving staff, no akcknowledgement of our anniversary and I was disappointed. As we walked out the door the hotess said Happy Anniversary, I expressed my appreciation and told her how no one inside acknowledged it at all. She was surprised as she stated she had informed our server and the manager. I know this is a strage review but when you are spending this kind of money you expect to be made to feel welcomed. We would definitely have returned based on the food, but I don't know if my ego will allow it when other similiar businesses in the city seem to appreciate my patronage.

Fantastic food - unpretentious atmosphere

By Margaret L |

Great place! No techno music, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and GREAT food. Fresh sushi, great wine list.

Sushi Nirvana

By Vanessa D |

The sushi I had at Juno was the greatest I've had anywhere. Fresh, tender and clearly very high quality. I loved the fact that the chef seasoned it for me, not even giving me the option of ruining it with too much soy sauce. Also loved that it is presented like a wine tasting, in increasing order of intensity. Beyond the sushi and the maki rolls, we also had the sushi shooters which were a thrill of different tastes. Can't wait to go back. Great vibe and a really special dining experience.

Fav Japanese spot - ever

By jigregor |

We've been to quite a few special such / japanese restaurants including SFO, LA, Seattle, Vancouver and others. This is our favorite. Let the chef serve you what he chooses, sit back and enjoy a meal to be remembered. We were there for an early dinner before it got packed which was ideal - as the food flowed wonderfully timed between courses. Service terrific as well. Pricey but not crazy. We will return and bring others

Birthday dinner

By Tracy F |

We were looking for a quiet spot to have dinner after the sensory overload of the Blue Man show. Juno looks very unassuming from the outside but the atmosphere and food is delicious . The restaurant is a little loud but very enjoyable and not crazy expensive.

Rated the best and deserved it

By RonBlumenthal |

Found Juno on a Time Out Chicago list of the best sushi restaurants in the city and we thought it lived up to that rating. From the toro tartare to the chef's choice sashimi to the Juno King, the smoked hamachi and the tako makuro all of the raw fish was delicious and beautifully presented. We also ordered the grilled octopus and found it to have good flavor but it was less than tender. We would definitely return to Juno.

One of the highest quality sushi I had

By Anita B |

Even though the interior of the restaurant was not as I expected it to be, everything else was amazing. The staff is lovely, friendly and knows everything about the food. The dishes are just delicious and you can feel the love for the detail the chefs give. All in all a prrfect dinner, not cheap but worth every cent. This was definitely not the last time I was there and I will recommend it to all of my friends!

Very good Japanese restaurant

By Lorenzo-Laurent |

This is not your day-to-day sushi place, this is a fine dining with excellent service. Nice Sake selection. Large choice. Generally spicier than most Japanese's restaurant.

Absolutely THE best dining experience of my life!

By Big_d_mob |

Wow, where to begin for this review? I'll start off by saying that this was not just a meal out - this was a dining experience! I am a big sushi fan and a huge fan of Chef BK. The service was beyond stellar. Grace, our waitress (although she was so much more than your typical waitress), was extremely knowledgeable about every item on the menu. She took the time to go over everything and to talk to us a little to get a feel for what we would like. She then advised us on what order our selections would be brought out to maximize our dining pleasure. She checked back with us frequently and was attentive and polite, as were all of the staff including the chef's working behind the sushi bar. Now to the food. I honestly feel that any word I use to describe the quality, flavor or presentation of our meal would be a disservice to Juno. It was simply the best meal I have ever had. The fish was so fresh and so expertly prepared that each bite was better than the last. There is not one thing I would change about my experience. For cocktails I recommend the Persimmon Manhattan as well as the sake flight. As for the sushi you literally can order anything and it will be amazing. I'm pretty sure we tried about half of the menu and all of it was phenomenal. Of course, this level of food and service comes at a premium price, but for what our bill was I still feel it was worth every cent. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you love sushi then you absolutely MUST eat here.

World class sushi

By atw100 |

The sushi chef at Juno, B.K. Park, truly dreams of sushi and more than holds his own among the best sushi chefs in the US, if not the world. If you are a sushi aficionado and appreciate the best quality, do not miss an "omakase" experience at the sushi counter with sushi chef B.K.-san. We have visited Japan ten times, and been to some of the best sushi restaurants in Tokyo, and are still excited to have B.K.'s sushi. If you just order sushi off the menu at a table, you will still have a very good meal, but not necessarily a world class dinner (unless, perhaps, you ask B.K.-san to prepare an assortment of his choice for you).

Fresh very tasty sushi spot

By Dana A |

Happy to find a neighborhood (walkable) sushi spot in Lincoln Park. Attentive service, good menu, very good sushi. A bit on the pricey side so not an “everyday” spot but delicious nonetheless.

Great "Date" with my daughter

By jlcardella |

I had a special "date" with my 17yo daughter who is a really adventurous eater and enjoys sushi. My friend recommended Juno as a great option and we could not have had a better experience. We let our waiter, Eddie, choose our meal from start to finish. He was a fantastic host, enthusiastically serving and explaining each dish. This was some of the best sushi I have had. Great service from all. Not cheap, but fine all around.

Best sushi I've ever had.

By Kim E |

Not only the best tasting, but also the best presentation along with a great wait staff.. Start to finish perfection.

Pristine sushi and sashimi

By Culture Vulture 60657 |

We decided to have the "chef's choice", one of sushi and the other of sashimi. The sashimi came in a clear glass globe like a fish bowl over a bed of ice and artfully decorated with leaves, flowers and a couple bare twigs. There were 16 pieces of pristine fish, ranging from pale white snapper to rich fatty tuna. The nigiri sushi comprised the same 8 fish, drizzled with a mild soy laid on a wooden slab, plus a piece of warm eel brought separately at the end. We also sampled the "crisp sake", a warm salmon roll with a filling of garlic mashed potato; the sauce was a thick truffled soy syrup to be spooned on. It tasted great. There's a nice list of cocktails and sakes. Service is helpful and polished. The restaurant, in a Lincoln Park storefront, has a front room with a bar, exposed brick walls and some black lacquer tables, the back room is bigger, brighter and has tables and the sushi bar. Metered street parking is not hard to find.

The second time was the charm

By Jack E |

We came here with our teenage kids. The first time we were at this same restaurant we did not enjoy the experience. We found the menu limited and the choices not particularly good. We also felt the wine and drink list to be minimal at best. This time was a very different experience. We found the food inventive and very good. I, frankly, can't believe it was the same restaurant. This time the owner came by to say hello and our server worked hard to help us choose items that were varied and to our liking. The wine list was poor and the drinks are limited (although there are many saki choices that we did not try). The last thing I'll say is it's a bit on the expensive side. We spent a small fortune here, but all in all, this is a winner and we will be back.

Straight Up Sushi

By Leverett L |

Food and service were great. We're used to the crazy rolls and as much wasabi and soy sauce we could ever want. Juno has their own blended/brewed soy sauce yet we didnt get any for the nigiri - only for rolls. I understand why, yet I'd like the choice and I'm guessing if I asked we could have gotten some, yet we wanted to stay true to the chefs' intent. The sushi was great and the quality of the fish was amazing, yet we learned we really like the non traditional rolls from places like Tanoshii or Miku, etc. Probably won't be back yet it was a great experience.

Pompously getting better

By WhatBucketList |

Came here several years ago and found a great/better experience this go around. Food - 4 Sushi was fresh and quality is high. Sushi rolls are typical and nothing extraordinary or creative. They price their sushi above the actual quality and skill level of the actuality. Service - 3 Wait staff is very busy but attentive. Unlike a typical sushi bar in Japan the sushi chefs here are very stuck in their world and not friendly or talkative. This may be trend here in Juno but a little different. Atmosphere - 4 Nice trendy look. The first rooms looks like a small lounge bar that leads into the main dining hall which opened up to a hype trendy spot with tables a little cramped. Will not return. Do not think they are priced right for their level.

Fresh Sushi!

By 0505LiveLife2014 |

Sushi that's fresh is the ultimate sushi. That's how I grade quality. This is good fresh fish served in a unique way.

Remarkable experience

By Marcin B |

It was our first time at this sushi restaurant and we decided to try it since it had a lot of positive reviews posted by other people. It was not hard to get a reservation for Saturday and when we got there around 6pm it was not crowded at all but soon almost all the tables filled in. The menu is very simple and short which I like a lot. That means everything has to be fresh. We always take grilled octopus in whichever restaurant we go to, and I must say, this was one of our best ones. Seared scallop with squid ink Fettuccini is definitely worth a try too. Toro Tartare was a tasty and nice visual experience as the tartar was served with qail egg mixture which you need to pour over your dish. Juno and King specials were delicious. The only downside is expensive alcohol so if you go prepare for bottle of sake around $40-$50 and japanese beer around $15. They also have quite nice bar at the front to relax with drink after good dinner.

Pretentious and overpriced.

By shallow_shoals |

Sashimi served on a silver branch, smoked under glass, fogged in dry ice... the fish was fresh and service was fine but the cost for the smoke and mirrors wasn't worth the price.

Read before Reserving

By CanadianinNewYork03 |

Would love to be writing a better review but it's still worth sharing our experience for what it was, hopefully it will help someone else. I had reserved weeks in advance via Open Table. We showed up on time and were shocked to be told we didn't have a reservation. We showed the owner, Jason Chan, our confirmation email from Open Table but he dismissively told us we weren't in his system so we couldn't have a table. We expect nothing more than to be treated fairly and respectfully. Honor a reservation, and if you can't for some reason, be nice about it at least. We ate at the bar, no big deal but our disappointment was furthered by the fact that the tables behind us remained empty during the entirety of our meal and the owner updated their Open Table reservation system [the same one he'd said we weren't in?] to record us as a "no show." Meanwhile we were eating at the bar a few feet away, spending money in his establishment. Lousy first impressions aside, the food was perfectly OK, just nothing memorable or outstanding. None of the entrees on the menu were available for some reason but the maki and sashimi we had was fresh and there were several options to chose from. The waiter at the bar was also very helpful and friendly. With so many great restaurants in Chicago, it certainly wasn't worth the cab ride to this off the beaten path location only to be treated rudely and dismissively by the owner. We love Chicago and this was a real rarity in an otherwise wonderful, friendly city. Our outstanding hotel concierge was lukewarm on this place and had recommended others (Masaki and Yusho) much more enthusiastically. Next time we'll listen!

Best Sushi in Chicago

By Greg S |

While expensive, this is the best sushi in Chicago. The quality of the fish is amazing. The preparation is incredible. The food is so good, it will force you to try things you'd never have imagined. The service is also very good and attentive. We were fortunate enough to get the chef's selection and everyone agreed it was the best sushi they've ever had.

Just ok experience

By chazinha |

Maybe it was just an off day, maybe I am not not a sushi expert, but found that the menu was quite limited (yes, I get the concept this is supposed to be a very creative menu) and I found myself battling to order, because nothing that day seemed appealing. I found the server to be a little snobby and cold, actually, he seemed bothered by table of three girls that were drinking little alcohol. Not bad, I would give It a second try , but I didn´t understand the other fantastic reviews.

Wow - truly the best sushi

By TravelMaven42 |

We have so many great sushi restaurants in Chicago but Juno is in a class all by itself. This is the best sushi you will ever have and the other dishes are world-class as well. The restaurant is expensive but worth it.

Stylish and satisfying

By DiDC09 |

Nicely mixed cocktails and some less common Japanese beer make a good start. The room is attractive, tables not too tight and chairs comfortable. Lighting is also soothing but bright enough to see. Not the loudest room ever so that was a relief though some egg crate foam on the undersides of tables would help a lot. Fish is of good quality with a number of less common offerings. Some creative rolls that aren’t the silly things found in lesser places. Good sushi is necer cheap but this felt well worth the price. Reputation deserved.

Torn about this restaurant

By rosenfie |

I'm a little torn about this restaurant. I gave it 4 stars because the food is excellent. However, out of our 4 dishes, one was tiny (think 1 bite), 2 were regular appetizer size and one was a nice size maki roll. It made deciding on a meal very difficult. When we asked our server how many items we should order, he said it depends on what we get because everything is sized differently. So we went back and forth and had to come up with the perfect combination of food while discussing portion sizes with our waiter. That was frustrating. A simple menu heading style like "bites", "apps", "entrees" or something along those lines would make the process a lot smoother. So, overall, I was disappointed with the portion sizes. The other thing I was disappointed with was a screaming 2 year old sitting right behind us. The dad took him out at least three times, but it was still very loud. I know there's nothing the restaurant can do about this, so this note is to the parents - if you know your child is loud, please don't take them to a fine dining restaurant. In terms of food, I would order everything again, except for the smoked hamachi. It literally tasted like a campfire. It's definitely different, and it tastes OK but def not worth the price or a repeat purchase. The crab salad was refreshing (though, think of it like a ball of tuna salad instead of an actual salad). The lobster ebi roll was the best thing we ate. Delicious and a satisfying portion. The grilled octopus and artichokes we also great. My friend would have preferred it be plated differently (in a series of small bites) but I liked the messier plating. The cocktails were delicious! And they have craft Japanese beers. Very unique. I'd recommend this place, but don't go if you're starving. We had 4 courses (it was a light dinner) and our bill was $150 for 2 of us (with 4 drinks). If we were really hungry, it would have easily topped $100pp.

Some of the best sushi in Chicago, but...

By GeoBoz |

All I can say is if you're selective off the menu at Juno you'll have some of the best sushi in Chicago. Generally I go there for the omakase which has been truly excellent for the past couple years - only lost a star because recently the omakase has been missing the mark a little - which is surprising. Regardless, BK is a great chef and I highly recommend him!

Nothing special here, folks

By KMunsell |

Came up for a foodie weekend in Chicago and saw some great photos of the chef’s sashimi special and some pretty good reviews on Yelp. Was disappointed in what we got...sashimi was really thinly sliced and not as fresh looking as in the photographs. Maybe I’m spoiled as there are some great sushi places in Seattle....bottom line is that this place is just ok.

Amazing 10-Course Omakase Dinner

By Marianne |

Tonight was my first visit to Juno thanks to a very generous Christmas gift from our kids. This restaurant is one of my son's favorite place. The chef at this restaurant is actually one he has followed from another place just to eat his fabulous food. I had to write my review right away while everything is fresh in my head. So tonight we enjoyed a 10-course omakase dinner with wine and sake pairings. This is a very pricey dinner at $450 per couple, but the dining experience is like none other. The caliber of the food is so elevated from what I've come to know as sushi. We enjoyed so many wonderful food creations by Chef B.K. - oyster, king crab, tuna poke, quadruple sashimi, scallop, a variety of nigiri, duck, temaki, tamago and a very yummy sweet ending. First, the presentation was exquisite. The chef is precise with his knife skills and his food creations are full of flavor and each bite left my mouth watering and wanting more. The freshness and quality of everything we ate was the best. I would love to come back to order off the regular menu. Actually, I will make a point to come back again. Thank you to the chef and our server Kathy for the most wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend Juno.

mishandled b-day rez + overpriced mostly blah food

By 93frequent_traveller |

I spent $313.66 last Saturday and regret every penny of it. I made a reservation more than 1 month in advance to have the tasting menu for my husband's birthday dinner. I was assured that the reservation was made and even received a text asking for confirmation. When I arrived they could not find the reservation at first, then found it, then insisted that I did not have the tasting menu reserved and said they could not serve it to us. Further, we could not be seated in the quieter area of the restaurant. Because it was his b-day, I decided to stay and try to make the best of it. The very knowledgeable server assured us that she could create a similar experience for us and so we put ourselves in her hands. Dish after dish arrived and only 2 or 3 were at all remarkable; the rest were every day items that did not impress. I was appalled to received the $263.66 bill that the server gladly rang up for us; I shouldn't be such a generous tipper (total $313.66). My husband was completely annoyed by the noise level (we sat near a table of 8 even though my original request upon making the rez was to be seated in a "quieter" area.) There are other really good sushi and sashimi places in town; I encourage you to go there and avoid this mismanaged, unapologetic chaos that doesn't even offer the benefit of being able to say "at least the food was good". Too bad.

Delicious but pricey

By Wrigleyville Ute |

We decided to visit this place after the Chicago History Museum as a late lunch, early dinner. We walked and it was quite a bit further than we had anticipated. We arrived just after 5 pm opening. The restaurant is very nice inside and in a great part of town. The design and layout is very accommodating. The service at this place was unreal good. There were all sorts of people coming to our table, checking on us, changing out our plates, etc. It was a team effort and they were top notch. The fish was excellent. Very fresh, very smooth, very well prepared. My only complaint is the limited menu. They didn't have many roll options to choose from, but the nigiri was delicious. We should have gotten all nigiri and it would have worked out better. They have 3 grades of tuna and we got the lowest and highest grades - very expensive. The lowest was by far the tastiest and we know to get that and more of it next time. The salmon was also delicious - very fresh, buttery flavor. Everything was quite expensive. We spent more hear for a late lunch than we did that night at a very nice restaurant & didn't get a lot of food. That is typical for sushi, but this more more than we are accustomed to. This would be a 5 star place with some more options and a more reasonable expense. Overall, it was great food and excellent service.

WARNING SMALL PORTIONS

By TL920 |

I have been to many sushi restaurants, and this restaurant is not like those other restaurant. This place is the worst. The portion are small and expensive. The server didn’t even bother telling us that all the food portions were unbelievably small. The tasty was not the best and the nigiri slice were thin, we could bearly taste the slices of fish.

Delicious!

By Laura O |

This place is a tad pricey, but worth it! I love how they have a back room. Most places seem want to shove everyone in a small front room. Immediately I noticed how there was actual space between our table and the table next to ours. Staff was incredibly helpful - they even helped us figure out which piece of nigiri we wanted seconds of (we forgot which was which but were able to deduce by how it looked!). Full bar. Great atmosphere. Great food - we had both an array of nigiri and the crispy sake maki roll. Would make a great date spot - easy to talk, not too crowded, and their pieces of sushi are actually a size you can fit in your mouth without trying to unhinge your jaw. Definitely one of my new favorite sushi places in the city.

Great food, but people at the reception should be more focused

By Toret8 |

I have been several times in this restaurant and I plan to return soon. The quality is great and the drinks are also excellent. This is not a common sushi place, it is an upscale one and the dishes are exquisite. The service is great and the only downside I have experience twice is that people at the reception can easily leave you waiting without explanation and they have quite a lot of attitude. The first impression may scare people away and they should pay more attention to details. The restaurant is too good to spoil it with an unwelcoming staff at the entrance.

Remarkable food, trendy place to eat, misses on small things

By 1031JayC |

Store front entrance, easy street parking and you walk into a small front room with a few tables and a nice bar. Not sure what to expect though our son is an expert and assures us it's good. Wife had a great Sauvignon blanc at the bar and we walked back to the second room in back which was all tables and a visible kitchen. First small thing: brick walls, hard wood floors, non acoustic ceiling. It was noisy, not raucous. They need a few hangings on the walls and noise dampers in general. Menu was a tad confusing, perhaps uninformative is a better term. But our son started ordering and things started to come out. Everything was great. Everything was great. It's worth repeating, trust me. There were three of us and they brought three of everything. Didn't keep track of dishes. Ordered a few things at least twice. We finally said enough and just talked for a few commented on the remarkable food experience. If you are looking for a steak or pasta, forget it. If you are looking for a good deal, forget it. Ticket for three was about $300 and I do not drink. Also, price does not include the bar tab before we sat down. That said, no regrets at all. High quality is the apt description and admittedly had we slowed down, we may have ordered less. Don't care. Food will dominate the conversation. Noise will hinder it. But this is one place you should try if you have any interest in this food. As we were leaving, the bartender mentioned that they were just opening a new, "more formal", Mako, in the West Loop. That may require cashing in an IRA to afford but they are planning to serve hot dishes.

Inventive and unique sushi

By stetler4 |

This was our first trip to Juno after recommendation from a friend. The sushi was different than your average sushi restaurant. Service was very good and well paced. They were able to accommodate our party of 3 for some of the dishes usually made for 2 people. Lots of variety of Japanese whiskey and sake too. We will return.

We celebrated my son’s 16th...

By GPTinker |

We celebrated my son’s 16th birthday when we dined here last weekend. We decided to give it a try due to good reviews and it did not disappoint us. The ambiance is very nice. The service is superb. And the food was really great! It is pricey but on occasion like this, it is worth the splurge! We will definitely come back.

Average sushi at best

By Luvthekeys5 |

Had dinner here and thought the sushi was very average, nothing to get too excited about. Very minimalist decor, actually pretty boring. Probably wouldn't go back.

New Chicago Sushi Option

By 177Steve |

Walked in to empty bar area at 7pm but relaxed when we got to back restaurant seating. Décor was nice not imposing and orchids were a nice touch I had my craft vodka martini and had to wait for our toast as Eddie gave us new customers the complete lowdown. He was very helpful. Had kushi oysters at 4 each a little pricey, uni sashimi (went against recommendation), nice wine and sashimi chef's choice. Finished with the roll that seemed everyone was having at the end. All-in-all excellent quality and good presentation. First time spouse had sashimi style with me. Another fine Chicago sushi option.

Excellent food -- and good to see a standout sushi restaurant with nice decor, as well

By MichaelTheWanderer |

Consider the Chef's Choice Sashimi, which at $44 for two people delicious and very good value. HINT: Juno can upsize the portion to 3 people with a proportional 50% surcharge; just ask the server. Also consider the Smoked Hamachi, which is a specialty. Juno can also upsize this dish, which has two pieces, to three pieces for a surcharge. It can be hard to find good wines by the glass at sushi restaurants, beyond sake, but Juno had a great Sancerre (blanc) by the glass. Three people with alcohol was $333 all in, including tip.

Sat us 50' late and treated us rudely on top of it... The manager should not work in a service business

By Philippe A |

We had a reservation for 4 at 8:00p. We were seated at 8:50p. The manager didn't even smile at us, let alone apologize in the first 40' of delay. She was beyond dismissive. We don't ever expect to be comped anything but a kind warm word would have made an unacceptable situation a bit more tolerable. Our family evening was ruined by this restaurant and the cavalier attitude of this manager. There is simply no excuse for such lack of professionalism. We eat out about 80% of our meals in many large cities around the world. Until this restaurant, we had never had a bad experience in Chicago. The food itself was perfectly fine (great fish quality but the sushi rice was somewhat pasty). It was nothing exceptional, however, and certainly nothing that would justify putting up with the horrendous attitude of the manager. For a restaurant that is located in a bit of a no man's land in the city, i do not understand the hype or even the Michelin mention. Chicago is too great a food city to make room for this distateful place.

Best Sushi I have ever had.

By Daniel C |

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. From making a reservation, to your farewell greeting, it is run like a fine tuned watch. The waitstaff is tremendous. The food even better. My favorite was the iki hotate (live scallop) nigiri. The Juno King and Juno Queen Nigiri were also excellent. The Otoro and Zuke Sake were my favorite sashimi. The presentation is just beautiful. The best selections were chosen by my server. My suggestion would be to let your server just feed you. They know the best combinations and sequencing of the sushi. You will enjoy.

I must have missed something...

By KPNP19 |

I showed up too late I guess, 9pm on a weekday and the restaurant was completely empty. Ate a couple rolls which were pretty good but not the best sushi in Chicago per some other reviews. It is also more expensive than other sushi restaurants in the city. I will perhaps return to try again on a weekend hoping for a better experience.

Best sushi, maki EVER!

By Audrey S |

We will have dinner here every time we are in Chicago! Beautiful setting, great service, and AMAZING, fresh, beautiful (!), innovative, DELICIOUS offerings. Most sit at tables, but you can also sit at the preparation-bar if you wish. Important to make reservations - the place was filled (and we reserved in the early evening). Truly, this is the best Japanese restaurant ever!

Is this the best Sushi in Chicago?

By abc12345 |

Chicago has some great sushi places and this is one of them. It is a comfortable setting, good service and beautifully presented sushi. It is moderately expensive. If you , ask me however where to eat the best Sushi in Chicago, I would say without hesitation , go to Arami.

Great sushi restaurant.

Last Saturday night had dinner at Juno. The atmosphere was not much but the food was outstanding. My favorite was the soft shell crab maki. Also enjoyed the sea weed salad. Juno is certainly worth a return trip.

Interesting Twists!!

By RpII |

15 minutes from downtown and worth the trip. Great value and quality. Everything is fresh and service is fantastic. Nice selection of Sake. Menu diversity is good for sushi beginners too! Venue is conducive for talking and family friendly.

An exceptional sushi experience.

By Lisa S |

Wow, I was very impressed with this place! Everything we ordered was amazing. I loved the decor and the almost hidden dining room from the bar area. This place was not cheap, plates are small. But was worth it for the experience and the freshness of the sushi. Be sure to try the smoked hamachi and the Ebi Sake maki roll. You can tell whoever is behind this place has their heart and soul behind it. I hope you walk away with the same impression Juno made on me as it will make on you.

Uninspiring

By MightyPetrusha |

I was debating between giving this place 4 or 3 stars. But since food is the main reason people usually go to restaurants, 3 won out. As far as dishes go, there were just a few hits among many misses. The maki rolls were just plain bad. The nigiri were tiny and just ok quality fish. Some on them looked “tired” like they have been pre-made in advance. A few of them came out literally 1 min after we have ordered. The ambiance is very minimalistic. It’s ok, it doesn’t really add much to the overall experience. In all fairness, I would give the service 5 stars, as is was super prompt and friendly. The place runs very efficient, like a well oiled money making machine. When you don’t invest much in the decor, charge top money and offer a small menu options, you better knock it out of the ballpark with the food quality. And this place just doesn’t.

Omakase mastery and great a la carte menu

By Christine P |

I've been twice to Juno, once for omakase and once for a la carte dining. Both times the experience was fantastic. Highlights from the a la carte menu included live scallop nigiri, beef tartare, an amazing ceviche maki. The omakase was fabulous, as impressive in taste as it was in visual beauty. The wait staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about sushi, and the ambiance is warm and contemporary.

Best sushi I've had in Chicago (so far)

By gosaka |

We had dinner at Juno at the recommendation of some friends as we talked about sushi options in Chicago. I've become a frequent visitor and am on the hunt for top end sushi options. I'm Japanese American (from California) and have traveled often to Japan. What stands out about Juno was the quality fo the fish and careful presentation - a hallmark of good sushi. We avoided the fancy, westernized rolls so can't comment on them. We stuck to nigiri and maki in traditional presentation. Each piece was carefully crafted and delicious. Serving size is small as many have noted but consistent with a more traditional and high quality experience. Our server was very well informed, very helpful, and offered great counsel on a choice of sake. My only negative comment would be that I found the sushi rice had a bit more vinegar flavor than I prefer. Our visit motivated us to consider the omakase option either at Juno or at their sister restaurant. If you love traditional sushi, Juno is worth a try.

Perfection!

By OnAnotherJourney |

Friends took us here on a recent visit and we were not disappointed. Friendly, relaxed service in a cute neighborhood. Excellent options, especially for someone who lives in a small town and appreciates quality Japanese food. Our main server was spectacular - her passion for food is evident.

Omakase

By PB62757 |

Reservation at 6 for 3 at the Omakase table. Some delay as other guests who were also at the table arrived late. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I would have appreciated some interaction with Chef BK. I don't think he even made eye contact with us even though he was preparing our food not 3 feet from us. The wine/sake pairings were generous. I thought it was overpriced for the experience, 500.00 for two. Overall, even though I enjoyed the chef's selections and presentations, I found the whole experience somewhat lacking.

Outstanding! Amazing sushi spot

By Qaddie |

This is a diamond in the rough. Not big on trappings, but the sushi is first class. I've had sushi at some of the best and this place is right up there with them. A bit out of the way, but worth the drive. Flavor, presentation, technique and variety. Anyone who didn't like this sushi probably got a bad day or isn't a true sushi lover 😀. Try it.

Delicious!!!

By Diablocat1211 |

The sushi and sashimi were exceptionally prepared. The pieces melted in your mouth. The ramen broth was clear allowing the natural flavors come through. It wasn't overbearing like how most places prepare their broth. The staff was attentive and not pretentious. We had a great time and will definitely come back.

Best Korean restaurant in Chicago

By WoodstockEd |

I had a lovely sushi dinner at Juno. An excellent selection of fresh fish (mostly from Korea) was elegantly prepared and served. Everything was good, some things were delicious. Marvelous aji, hirame, and mirugai were served as sashimi, and all nigiri sushi was elegantly prepared and presented, with delicate and appropriate sauces. Yet, I am never able to understand why Americans don't recognize the Korean, rather than Japanese aesthetic, being presented. There is no Japanese staff member, and the wall of counter and chiller separating the chefs from the customers is very non-Japanese. The quality of the fish and food is unquestionable, but sushi ought to be presented with a Japanese aesthetic. Sake is way, way over-priced, although the selection is far, far above average for Chicago. Overall, this is a lovely dining experience, and yet deeply flawed by its disingenuous pretence of being Japanese.

I PULLED A PIECE OF METAL OUT OF MY MOUTH WHILE EATING THE RAMEN!

By Maria T |

I was really looking forward to eating here. While eating the ramen I felt something weird in my mouth. I pulled out a piece of metal. So NASTY and so scary. The waiter was apologetic. The manager did not even come to our table and apologize or anything. What is the point of fine dining if you are not treated even with basic respect? I left feeling like a chump paying money to literally eat garbage.

Omakase!

By gtg934v |

I was in town for business and made an omakase reservation.I wanted sushi, but I've never done an omakase dinner before. It was a great experience and my smile grew bigger and bigger with each dish Chef B.K. served up some great pieces. The most memorable presentation was the squid nigiri. I will start off by saying I don't like to eat squid sashimi/nigiri because it is always served so tough. This one was quite the opposite and I enjoyed it. He made a few scores, dropped some squid ink in strategic places, and out came the blow torch. The squid danced as it started to broil. My favorite piece of the night was the scallop nigiri. I've never seen scallop prepared so seeing him slice the scallop into a strip for the rice was cool. It tasted so good. I want more! The artful handroll prepared with his special stash of nori was also a treat. I will definitely be back.
