Very nice place for Indian veg food

By Shahid |

This is very good restaurant if you l you are interested in veg food. Foods are fresh and have many choices. Very reasonable price. Price is less than what i expected. Must visit place for good Indian vegetarian food. Only missing point is, you will get bread slice instead of tandoori roti, nan or chapati. But very all must visit place

Vegetarian fare with a sprinkling of spirituality

By Heidi M |

This Hare Krishna temple has a great community outreach: serve excellently-prepared vegetarian food at low prices in a beautiful garden setting. We went and enjoyed the Sunday buffet, which featured dal, tamarind tea, naan, basmati rice and, confusingly, an excellent vegetarian lasagna. The food was delicious; even my meat-loving family enjoyed the rich and spicy flavors. And we enjoyed our meal in the lush bower of the cozy outdoor patio, which made us feel a bit like we'd traveled to an exotic foreign land. For $10 a person including drinks and dessert, it was a real bargain! Also, don't forget to visit the gift shop for Indian earrings or a new Ganesh figurine or scupture!

First class vegetarian Indian food.

By James Parker M |

When we arrived at the beautiful temple we were awed and then when we started down the buffet line (which changes daily) and salad bar we were even more awed. The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. Every staff member we came in contact with was most gracious. We dined with two of our friends who are carnivores and they were impressed as well. We will return.

Wonderful food and lovely courtyard

By kenwort2 |

My husband and I went not realizing that they only serve vegetarian food. However, we enjoy vegetarian food so we ate it anyways. It was very good, the staff was very friendly, and the setting was lovely. The courtyard was an idyllic place to eat and enjoy some conversation.

I wish I could eat here everyday!!

GREAT vegetarian and vegan food. The best!! The people are wonderful in the temple, I know......I got stuck in a tornado and the made me take shelter in the basement with them. This really is a cool community too!! Be sure to check out their gift store, tamarind tea, cinnamon raisin bread and the singing and drumming in the temple after dinner. Awesome experience!

Great Food, Great Atmosphere

By DawninDallas |

Kalachandjis is fantastic. The food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing. A specific call out to the cinnamon bread, tamarind tea and almond dressing all which are outstanding. Kalachandjis is also wonderful for business lunches as it's easy to have a conversation in the serene envionment. It is truly a Dallas oasis.

Krishna would be Proud!

By kipthekenyan |

The ambiance was exceptional, especially if you eat outside. The kindness of the all of the staff, and their desire to make you comfy and relaxed is unreal. The food was excellent, but I would suggest getting there sooner rather than later, to make sure the buffet is still fresh! I was lucky to visit on Krishna's birthday, and the party-going atmosphere made it all even better!

Perfect Indian Vegetarian Food in Dallas

By Badrinathan |

If you are a pure vegetarian and if you happen to be in Dallas, Kalachandji's Palace & Restaurant is a must and not to be missed. Part of The Hare Krishna temple, Kalachandji's provides a wonderful environment for a laid back Indian Vegetarian lunch buffet. A lovely courtyard provides a wonderful environment to enjoy the meal. If the weather is good, it's worth to wait and take a table in the courtyard, though they have plenty of indoor tables. Once you walk in, you enter the buffet area. A white board lists the dishes of the day in order they are placed on the buffet line with "spicy", "dairy", "vegan" clearly marked and the menu changes daily. You get a wide variety of dishes - steamed vegetables, traditional Indian curries, daal, papad, a full salad bar, and their unique cinnamon-raisin bread. All of them are very dellicious. Generally indian food is heavy and oily. But the food here is quite light and you can't really find excess oil in their food. The sweet rice desert was just amazing. The staff were very attentive, all the time they get to your table and enquire if we need anything, even though it's a self service restaurant. I strongly recommend anyone visiting Dallas to take time to taste their delicious food.

The best place in Dallas (and maybe the world)

By David M |

This place is great! They have an award winning vegetarian buffet with friendly staff that is very satisfying. There's a temple room that has regular programs including ecstatic chanting and dancing especially on Sunday afternoons and a Wednesday evening Program upstairs at 6:30 for new people who want to come chant, hear spiritual discussion, have food and hang out. This place is a must go if you live in Dallas or if you are visiting. It satisfies much more than just your soul! 👍

Hare Krishna Buffet

By yaykitty |

This vegetarian buffet is run by the Hare Krishna Temple. They offer all vegetarian and mostly vegan food for a very decent price. They also give food away to the needy, which is really honorable and decent in my book. Their food is not the typical Indian food like you get in most restaurants, but it is delicious. The service is amazing as well. It may be a buffet, but you barely realize it because the serving staff is so attentive. If you have a sweet tooth, the tamarind tea is really good. They also have a selection of hot tea available. And their desserts should not be missed (hint: just eat all of them).

By NPLRoam |

Very affordable and nice quirky choice for a change of pace night out. Its a bit of a dice roll as you don't know what will be on the menu that night, but everyone is super friendly. They have a great cooking class that is a super deal also - its in 10 week sessions. I've done it twice!

The best kept secret in Dallas

By Jivananda |

A totally different dining experience. The food is fabulous with a very wide variety of food choices. Plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices. The outside courtyard has mature trees and plants with a wonderful fountain. Trust me, you won't be able to get enough of this place. A great experience and a great value.

The restaurant and temple are beautiful, but the food was a bit disappointing.

Vegetarian Oasis

By blklthrjkt |

I have been coming to this place for over 20 years and the food is consistently delicious and inventive. Cooked according to the Krishna traditions, there are no onions or garlic and yet everything is flavorful and appetizing. It's served buffet style with a variety of dishes, both Indian and other ethnic styles. Their spanakopita is terrific and the fresh baked bread is not to be missed. You can even buy a loaf to take home. The setting is in the temple and the courtyard seating area is charming and serene. It's a wonderful early evening dining experience.

Healthy, fresh, delicious, light, flavorful Indian food.

By Rachel |

Loved this place!!! Make no mistake it's located inside a temple that's located inside the ghetto. What you will find inside is heavenly Indian food. When we arrived we were totally confused about how you pay. You basically just jump in line, grab a plate, hit the buffet, and sit. Eventually a waiter magically appears right as your thinking dessert sounds good. It was a Sunday night when we visited and the place was hopping. The food was outstanding, service friendly, and inside garden dinning patio enchanting. After we finished dinner we sat in the temple side yard and watched fireflies dance through the night. I'd highly recommend a visit!!!

Best vegetarian Indian in Dallas!

By russkwtx |

This restaurant is nothing short of phenomenal. It's located in a very modest part of old East Dallas and the neighborhood looks iffy. The restaurant itself is inside a functioning temple. It's a buffet so you stand in line and help yourself. But the food is nothing short of spectacular. They always have soup, a couple of rices, a couple of warm dishes, and then a big array of vegetables and salads. There are also pampadams and some cinnamon bread or something like that. We have been about a dozen times and we have never been disappointed or left feeling hungry despite it being only vegetarian. They add so many spices that everything is delicious. The lunch is $10.95 and includes a drink and a dessert.

The ambience of this place was great. Food in terms of variety and taste were superb. Some of the items like Samosa and the Desert were very good ! The staff were very courteous. On the whole a very sumptuous Dinner and a good time.

Great vegetarian food at very affordable price

Excellent vegetarian food that was tasty. Love the simplicity and the informality. Would certainly go back and also highly recommend

Delicious and filling meal, sides with lots of varieties!

Beautiful place to visit and the food is great with so many varieties with a reasonable price. Don’t miss to see the palace of Kalachandji’s at non-COVID times. It’s only take out at this time but still very nice 👍 to eat. At other times we get to dine inside the restaurant which is so beautiful!

Lovely and peaceful lunch

By jbza |

The neighborhood may be a little far flung for some diners, but worth the trip. You enter via a buffet line which is small, but packed with fresh selections and an awesome variety of homemade breads and as many papadums as you can eat. They had filling vegetarian lasagna and other tasty selections with a tremendous salad bar. The tamarind drink is mildly sweet tea like beverage. They offer some limited desert served to your table after you finish--the rice pudding was outstanding. For any meat eaters feeling like you could not be full on veggies only, I think this buffet would prove you wrong. The dining area is very attractive, but best is to sit in the courtyard on a nice day with the central tree and fountain. Very clean and well maintained. Was quite full by noon, so plan accordingly.

Make sure to eat in the courtyard......

By TinaTravelstheWorld |

Interesting dining experience. The outdoor courtyard was just lovely. Food is served buffet/cafeteria style. The food was good and prices were reasonable. The potatoes and brussel sprouts were an interesting and tasty combination. I did expect more hot food options. Tamarind drink is delicious. I am glad that I went. If you happen to be in the area or if you are interested in exploring the Hare Krishna temple, you might want to try it.

Always Wonderful

By ML B |

Great, fresh food that's lovingly prepared. Incredible flavors in the various dishes, awesome salad bar and vegan molasses cookies. Staff is always very pleasant and its a great dining environment in the garden patio. We love it and we're not even vegetarians. Yum!

Love the food and patio!

By kerib |

They not only serve delicious food, but they have one of the best patios in Dallas. It's such a nice setting that doesn't face a strip mall parking lot or a busy street with car fumes.

Terrific vegetarian options in an appealing environment.

By bpr106 |

Despite the intense Dallas heat, we found a refreshing spot in the outdoor dining area, in the shade of a tree and next to a gently trickling fountain. We ate well and we're quite pleased with the options.

Fantastic food

This restaurant was superb. Wonderful totally vegetarian buffet. Very friendly atmosphere and absolutely delicious selection. Will definitely return.

Great Experience

By Valerie R |

I visited Kalanchandji's this past weekend with my father, who is a vegetarian. I am not a vegetarian but love all food and love trying new things! I found this restaurant and the temple very enjoyable! I do not know much about the religious aspect, but like I said I love experiencing new cultures and seeing other ways of life! The food was really good! They had a great assortment of things to try, and since it's a buffet, you just have to figure out what you like and then go get some more of it! It was a very peaceful and inviting atmosphere. After dinner, I wanted to go inside of the temple area just to see what it was like. It was very nice! They had a speaker going in a church-sermon kind of atmosphere, with people just sitting all around listening. It was good food, nice people, and a great environment.

Check Plus on Everything!

By Ashley O |

A friend and I visited for dinner on a rainy Wednesday night in late March 2010. As previously stated in other reviews, they serve their food on a hot and cold buffet. Great selection, with new dishes I've not tried before. The tamarind tea is a fun choice if you've never had it before. It's all vegetarian or vegan food, with one or two American-style dishes for those that are less adventuresome. Even with the rain, we set on the parially covered patio area. It was beautiful and relaxing with the rain dripping off the trees and plants in the center of the patio. Dessert was served as the waitress gave us our check. Great timing. I will be going back soon.

Never ever disappointed!

By Jennisqueeze |

The uniquely peaceful, floral ambience of Kalachandji's in Dallas is a wonderful setting in which to eat the best vegetarian food in the region. Featuring fresh ingredients from their own gardens, the master chefs of the ISKON temple restaurant offer lunch and dinner menus that serve every vegetarian appetite with classic dals, breads, panir and tofu dishes, delectable greens and potato dishes and chutneys. Not exactly a classical Indian establishment, Kalachandji's is ISKON fusion. On my plate tonight: pumpkin curry, mustard greens, "shepherd's pie" with gravy, green papaya with panir, vegetable pakora, chili pickle ... yum ...

The food is nice, but the big draw is really the ambiance. The outer garden area is particularly peaceful and inviting.

Consistently excellent!

By Chays Love |

We have been here quite a few times over the last year and have never had a bad experience. The food is truly delicious, and so filling that we've never been able to go back for seconds. Sitting out in the courtyard really tops off the visit. I find it is a very peaceful and relaxing experience overall. Will always highly recommend!

divine food freshly prepared with love by spiritual people.

By lotilove |

...need I really say more? I live outside of the metroplex so I use any excuse to come to Dallas and eat at Kalachandji's - at least monthly. They just went up on their prices too and I am not at all perturbed by it. I never want this restaurant to go away. Whatever they have to do to stay in business is okay by me. The salad bar is magnificent. The dressings: homemade and delectible (no ranch or Italian THANK YOU!) Fresh baked bread. The cooked food - always fabulous; always something different. EVERYTHING is - well ----- flawless. And it's a buffet so it's all you can eat...which is my only problem with the place because it's so good I eat more than I should. But even so, it's probably the most healthy restaurant in Dallas. The ambiance and staff are very pleasant too. So just to make it clear, I don't eat out. I don't have the money, nor do I feel it's a good use of my money. Kalachandji's is not eating out - it's a true blessing. 1. I am supporting a religious institution so I consider it tithing to a degree.2. I am nourishing the body temple with an offering of nutrition and pure bliss. It should be called Grace. That's what I call it.

Lovely Setting

By MaryJoLin |

The patio is tranquil and so inviting. Staff is friendly and helpful. The vegetarian lunch offerings were good, but lasagna seemed out of place. We'd definitely go back to enjoy the patio again on a pretty day. Gift shop offers good shopping too!

Used to be fabulous

By Ed Z |

the food is still as good as it can get. But the donation pricing has gotten a bit high and is no longer a donation. And the atmosphere has changed since the remodeling. It's as if the success has ruined the charm it once had. But it's still best veggie place in Dallas

Long Tim Favorite

By MonkeyMarie |

I always bring friends and family who are visiting from out of town to Kalachandji´s. Not only do they have excellent Vegetarian food on their buffet, but the experience of visiting the temple is always delightful. I also attended one of their cooking classes years ago and found it to be a very cool experience. I highly suggest Kalachandji´s to anyone looking for vegetarian or vegan options as well as a chance to experience a little bit of a different culture.

A hidden gem in East Dallas

By Kassira |

This vegetarian buffet restaurant is so good, celebrities visit and there's proof on the walls with autographed photo. Years ago I saw Ricky Martin come in with some of his tour crew. From daily soups to sides, entrees and an organic salad bar, every meal, lunch and dinner is delicious. They offer filtered water and homemade tamarind tea for beverages and various rice puddings and halvah for dessert. One can remove their shoes and tour the spectacular temple as well. A not-to-be-missed culinary experience.

Terrific at the Temple

By lovetravel0828 |

My family and I recently visited Kalachanddji's on a Saturday evening, what a great experience. We first explored the gift shop which had some unique items to purchase. Afterwards we found the beginning of the line for the buffet, everything looked fantastic and the staff was quick to let us know what certain items were when we asked. The salad bar was very fresh with a large selection and some terrific salad dressings. Our drink choices were soda, water or a delicious cold tamarind tea. We were able to sit out on the patio, the servers were very nice and offered 3 options for dessert, rice pudding, mango halavah or for someone like me who can't decide, both! Terrific visit, can't wait to return

Very interesting place

By Christopher D |

It is very interesting. It has changed a bit since I last visited. It used to be donation based, but we were charged for 3 even though one in our group decided not to eat anything besides a few tomatoes. I liked my food, to notch vegan with Indian flavor.

Authentic Mouth Watering Vegan Cuisine

By Pauline T |

If you're looking for authentic vegan and vegetarian foods under one roof Kalachandji's is the spot. I check their daily menus online to find what they have. There is always an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables and great food for the curious folks who want to attempt a vegetarian adventure. Excellent service, all great choices plus all you can eat (buffet style).

Change of pace, relaxing lunch

By Stephen F |

This restaurant is part of a Hare Krishna Temple, all vegetarian buffet (with just a few milk based items). The food is very good, well seasoned and probably a lot more healthy than the usual Dallas Tex-Mex joint. The restaurant is small with a well stocked buffet line, soup-salad-vegies-main dish and is open to the elements. On a nice spring or fall day dining in the courtyard is about as relaxing as you can get in Dallas. There is a fountain with the sounds of falling water, incense, and background music. Really great people watching. The waitstaff is all members of the temple, very helpful, very polite. The food is good, nothing fancy but all quite tasty. Meal price includes beverage and dessert. You can also get a lunch to go, and if you like their homemade bread you can take a loaf home for $3.

Spiritual Enlightenment in a Meal

By Shelley K |

I wanted to review Kalachanji's because it is simply one of my favorite places on earth where I love to go to get energized. The food is blessed with the divine energies of the staff who prepare fresh vegetarian meals filled with loving kindness. Aside from the meal itself, treat yourself to a brief meditation in the temple and sit outside on the patio under the trees and leave feeling refreshed. Highly recommended!

Amazing!

By DuNoiss D |

Let me start off by saying. I do not enjoy manufactured hospitality, what I mean by that is fake service. The service here is far from fake or manufactured. The service was exactly that, we were served and treated very well by the staff. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is very charming. This is definitely a hidden gem in the city.

Best food in Dallas

By setarehvatan |

This is hands down the best place to eat in Dallas! It's all vegetarian/vegan yummy Indian food. It's nested inside of a beautiful temple. You can feel the positive vibrations within the ambience and taste it in the food. The people who work here are very nice as well.

Seriously divine vegetarian experience

By Areya W |

I have been to great vegetarian (not veggie friendly, vegetarian) restaurants in Chicago, L.A., Irving TX and Santa Cruz (Dharma's is gr8), but this was awesome. We went on Sunday, it was packed with a constant line of people at the door. It's $11 per person and includes a beverage (Tamarind Lemonade) or tea. The hot table had lasagna (Hindu style vegetarian so there is cheese in some dishes), some Chinese noodles, steamed kale, potato subji, delicious dal and at least 3 rices. Everything was nicely seasoned - loads of spices but very little heat, really. Salad bar was nice, too. Dessert, rice pudding or halava, is served at the table when wait staff clear table and it is delish! And the environment, heavenly. This is a Hare Krishna restaurant, so yes, it is unique but these people take cooking seriously. I wish we lived closer. Haribol!

Only go here for the temple

By Nevil B |

The food choices were so bad that it's a shame. I was surprised that they even call this a restaurant because there was no food apart from like a raw salad buffet. The only thing I liked about this place was the temple, which was surprisingly full of White Americans part of the Hare Krishna movement! The temple looked good, but that's it.

One of My Favs

By Likeness |

Kalchandji's continues to be one of my favorite places to eat. My husband is not a vegetarian either, but he loves the food here. It such a great place with wonderful people that run the restaurant. On the buffet, there is always something that you will like. I love the curry potatoes and the spinach and the meatballs with no meat but they taste like meatballs. Great salad bar! My absolute favs are the cinnamon bread, the tamarind tea and the rice pudding. They had a guy playing soft guitar when we went this time that was so calming and relaxing. We just love this place!! Great place to go before the Dallas Summer Musicals because it is so close.

By Monica G |

A surprise every night! Expect some Indian staples, salad bar, fresh bread, and ADDICTIVE tamarind drink, but the rest of the menu changes daily. It's a fabulous atmosphere in tolerable weather - the patio is a caucauphony of stained glass, trees, water features, and all types of people bearing plastic trays full of bounty. A good date place for the more gastronomically adventurous. Also a fabulous example of the adage, "just because it's vegetarian, doesn't mean it's healthy."

Veggetarious Maximus!

By ByronCarrera |

What an atmosphere!!! Food was great, fresh and abundant, unlike other buffets who refill the line until you have to ask for more. Had been working on coming here and was brave enough to get on Dallas traffic at 6:15 pm on a Friday all the way from Frisco 1:15 minutes later arrived in paradise. Will return for more!!! Teas rock, tamarind water awesome and dessert was over the top!

Nice vegetarian buffet, picturesque setting; friendly, attentive staff

By Michael H |

I had lunch at this place with my daughter yesterday, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. My daughter was visiting from Chicago to attend a conference in Dallas, and I just moved to Fort Worth 6 months ago. I had seen Kalachandji on Google Maps but really knew nothing about it. My daughter is partial to vegan-vegetarian places, and although I can certainly enjoy my rare steak, I appreciate the creative cookery that goes into preparing vegan or vegetarian dishes and am always willing to try places like this. The hostess at my daughter's lodging heartily recommended Kalachandji, which was only a few minutes from where we were. It turns out to be part of a complex, the Radha Kalachandji Temple, located in one of those interesting old American churches from the turn of the last century that are situated on the corner of two neighborhood streets instead of a major boulevard. I readily recognized the church architecture from many experiences of my boyhood. Parking is on the street, but it is no problem in a quiet, pleasant, tree-shaded neighborhood. You walk in at the ground level, pass a gift shop, and shortly come to the entrance of the buffet. I won't say it's the most extensive buffet I've ever seen, but it has good selections of rice, vegetables, a soup of the day, fresh-baked bread, salad ingredients, and desserts. I wish they had had onions and mushrooms among the salad ingredients, but that's just about my only complaint. I really enjoyed the salad dressing. After serving yourself at the buffet, you find your own table. There is an indoor seating area that opens out into a courtyard, with a young tree growing in the center. My daughter and I found a table for two right beneath the tree branches. The general atmosphere was that of a cheerful and pleasant place chosen by people who want healthy food and a certain character, or atmosphere. Restaurant staff were friendly and attentive, and one cheerfully complied with a request to take a photo of my daughter and me. The food was tasty and filling, and the lunch tab for two was less than the price of two movie tickets. Alas, this place is about 45 miles from where I live, but I heartily recommend it to those who are in the area. If I am back in that neighborhood, I will certainly return.

Indian food, yeah right...

By Gautam K |

We went there after getting very good reviews of the place. However, we were let down by food taste, as we had in mind good Indian vegetarian food for our lunch. The food variety was also small. The ambience was good, but thanks to rain, many seating options were unavailable in the open central area. Avoid, if you are looking for Indian food, but might pass for American - Indo fusion style.

Not Indian Food

By Texan F |

To start, this was not an Indian restaurant so I am not sure why it is listed as one. Each dish was okay, but this was not Indian food at all. It was actually a mix of Thai, Chinese, Greek, etc. which isn't bad if you want different types of food at one time. I agree with Eric S. in that it was packed with the usual suspects, including those without shoes:S For $12.95, I could have found a better dining and atmosphere.

Great experience.

By SkyDragonfly |

Vegetarian buffet with the most amazing flavors! Great setting and wonderful atmosphere. It’s a beautiful place. The people are very welcoming and it’s a comfortable place to eat whether you’re trying Indian for the first time or eat it all the time. You won’t be disappointed here if you’re seeking delicious and authentic food like this. So yummy!

Best vegertarian meal

The food is always good at lunch. They have a nice variety buffet. Love the cinnamon bread and the tamarind tea. Nice and cozy and the service is always good. Love the little shop there too.

Resting on their laurels.

By Tito Tim Travels |

The atmosphere is wonderful but the food is consistently bland. I miss the Kalachandji's of the early '80s. They still have amazing cooks but the menu doesn't let them perform (I know them personally). There are now so many vegetarian restaurants in Dallas I honestly can no longer recommend what was once my favorite restaurant. What a shame.

Veggie Temple

Another veggie restaurant in Dallas! Very spiritual setting (in a Hari Krishna temple but the restaurant is in its own separate room and courtyard). Excellent Indian influenced food. No booze but the Tamarind Cooler is lovely. Buffet style.

Favorite Restaurant in Dallas!

By Bryan L |

My wife and I eat here all the time and love the fact that, as vegetarians, we can eat anything on the menu. The food is excellent but the menu is limited so it's best to check their Web site to see what's for dinner that evening, my personal favorite is the eggplant parmigiana. However, no matter what else they are serving the tamarin tea and the sweet rice are always there and always delicious. The courtyard is beautiful and always nice, even in the rain. Kalachandji's is a fantastic dining experience that is well worth experiencing if you are in the Dallas area.

A family and friend favorite

By margarethN4028MZ |

Kalachandji's tops my list of fun places to take friends. Their vegetarian buffet is vegan and gluten-free friendly and always delicious. As an added bonus, the traditional Indian music that plays in the background is kept at a low level so everyone at the table can hold a conversation whiteout yelling at each other to be heard--one of my major beefs with many Dallas restaurants. We try to sit in the patio area whenever possible and tables here have overhead space heaters to make this pleasant in cooler weather. Be sure to take off your shoes and go into the temple afterward--it's beautiful! And if possible see if you can find a temple member to tell the stories behind the paintings of Krishna on the walls of the temple.

Unique atmosphere, healthy and good food

By cbc1969 |

What I love about this unique restaurant is that the food tastes homemade. Homey good vegetarian food. Good vegan options. The Tamarind cooler drink is excellent. Be sure to sample home made cinnamon bread. Do not be intimidated because of the temple thing. The place is really laid back.

I am a picky eater, conscious abt quality, taste and ambiance and this restaurant in Dallas scores an A+ is all these categories. They have a standard buffet with different dishes everyday - but the following are a must have 1. Daal 2. Spinach Pakoda 3. Cinnamon bread 4. Salad dressing is the tastiest ever 5. Dessert: both halva & kheer Vegetarianism rocks - this is the best for that!!!

By ihearvoices2 |

What a wonderful buffet! Some of the best food I have eaten. If you are ever in Dallas you must stop at Kalachandji's in the Hari Krishna Temple. Gauranga Potatoes, Pumpkin Sabzi, Vegetable Pakora, Vanilla Sweet Rice, Halvah, and so many more are my favorites. I came to Dallas to help care for my mom and my sister brought me here. I begged her to take me again I had to eat there one more time before I leave. So we did. I haven't left yet....may have to go one more time! Ohh how I wish there was place like this where I live. I could eat here everyday.

Delightful!

By Christine S |

My son and I popped in after church. The menu is different every week, but from what I hear, it's always as fresh and flavorful as it was the day we were there. Plenty of variety, delicious dessert, friendly staff, great value, and a quiet moment in the temple afterward. They also have an adorable catering truck! We'll be back!

Vegetarian food that non-vegetarians can love

By DallasKJG |

It's not often I get to eat vegetarian food in a temple. Actually, it's not often I get to eat any food in a temple. Kalachandji's is an amazing place, hidden in a quiet neighborhood in East Dallas. It's been on my list of places to go for years, and we finally got there a couple of times last year. There are a lot of reasons that people may not visit. It's vegetarian. It's Indian food. It's in a "Hare Krisha" temple. It can be hard to find. All of those reasons can be dismissed with an open mind (and a GPS.) For those brave enough to go once, it will be on your list of places to go. It can be a spiritual place, if you let your mind go. Otherwise, it's just a quiet, relaxing buffet. I can't pronounce most of the food, but everything I have ever had has been delicious, and I'm not a vegetarian by practice. (I would go just for the tamarind tea.) It is very inexpensive. Take a little of everything and you will find something you enjoy. My wife, who is much less adventurous than I, actually suggested we go the second time. That's when I knew that anyone who goes once is likely to go again.

Super good indian food

By Mayank S |

Palacial Facade is what greets you at Kalachandji's temple, which houses a restaurant inside. The food was supercilious, with atleast a 10 course buffet. There were veggies, lentils, salads, different varieties of rice and the yummy desserts. It's difficult to pick a favorite when everything was good, but I would recommend that one must not miss the Tamarind Drink. They put up the day's menu online, so it becomes convenient for ppl to decide if they wanna check in that particular day. The food is pure vegetarian, and the price at $14, is nothing compared to the quality and service of food.. The most fascinating part was that we found ourselves to be the only Indian couple in an Indian restaurant which had jam packed American guests.

Not Great, But Not Bad--4 Stars for the Effort

By CA-FL-TX-FL |

I was a vegetarian for several years a long time ago, and I'm still sympathetic to the cause so I came here with great expectations. The food is very wholesome, definitely fiber-rich. They do a sort of Indian-style cuisine, as Krishna is a Hindu deity and this is a Krishna temple. I wouldn't call it terribly authentic, but on the other hand, it's lighter than what you'd find at an Indian restaurant. The spices are close, but they don't precisely nail it. I thought they would have some interesting salads, but it's just a whole bunch of plain raw stuff to create your own salad. The main entree, a nut loaf, could have been better. Ditto for the tamarind drink--any taqueria does it way better. At $8 lunch was a bargain. I wouldn't drive across town to eat here, but if I lived nearby I might come here every now and then.

Mixed Review on a Unique Restaurant & Attraction

By Bruce W |

First, if you're a vegan, this place must be heaven. If you're not a vegan and enjoy traditional Indian food, like me, you will realize they serve a variety of vegetarian foods and flavors from several different cultures, including Indian. Only you can decide if you like or not. The food is served buffet style and allows you to choose an assortment of dishes and they don't always serve the same thing over and over again. Four of us went there last evening (a Saturday night) to enjoy their scratch made food and by the time we left there were 15 people in line waiting. So without any advertising and only word of mouth, sites like TA are about the only way people find out about the "Temple Restaurant" as it's known by those who frequent the place. Also, inside what was formerly the gymnasium of a Dallas church is a magnificent Hari Krishna temple, which is open to the public (but be respectful and take off your shoes, as is the custom). It alone should qualify as an attraction in Dallas and you should allocate at least 15 to 20 minutes to walk through and take in a tribute to this kind and peaceful way of life. If you are adventurous and want to try something new and unique, try the Temple Restaurant ... You won't be sorry.

Cafeteria-style, some Indian, salad bar

By Kbelton1961 |

Kalachandji's is a cafeteria in a Hare Krishna temple. The staff were helpful and friendly. There was pappadam, a curried tofu dish with cabbage, and a tray of spanikopita. There was a salad bar with fresh vegetables. The price ($11) is hard to beat. if you're looking for an inexpensive meal, this is good value. If you are more of a foodie and looking for authentic Indian, suggest you try other places.

A Great Dallas Institution.

By Misha F |

This place has good food, great atmosphere, super nice staff--donation based payment, they trust you'll give whatever you can for your budget. We always try to give a little extra b/c they actually will feed anyone who comes in whether they pay or not, like the homeless. The little shop in the front has great Indian imports, from clothing to decorative items, incense, music, books. Best deal on the handmade clothing really, unique pieces at low prices. And local art hangs here. And you can check out (respectfully) the beautiful temple, so lovely. When I was in India I was never allowed into a Hindu temple b/c I'm not Hindu, but here they are tolerant, and it is a treat to see.

Kalachandji's GREAT Food Good Karma!

By Leza M |

I have gone to this restaurant since it opened at least 25 years ago. It's delicious, it's fresh and the atmosphere is calming, friendly and very peaceful. I wish it were open on Mondays other than that it's great that it's open 6 days a week. LOVE IT! From Vegetarian Indian cuisine to Italian and Mexican Vegetarian dishes, Delicious! Always a wonderful salad bar and yummy tamarind tea.

Go for the karma...

By tazcaly |

We had eaten at KALACHANDJI'S when we lived in Dallas years ago but it had been awhile since we'd visited. The restaurant is run by Krishnas but there is no proselytizing, just great food. (You may go into the temple if you wish.) The restaurant has been in business for over 30 years and for good reason. The food is fabulous. Served buffet style for one price, it is ALL vegetarian and some vegan. Primarily Indian but the menu always includes other international dishes. The night we were there they also served enchiladas and lasagna. The atmosphere is relaxing but casual. Staff are happy to answer questions about the dishes if you want to know ingredients or how something is prepared. Lunch is a couple of dollars less than dinner. Plenty of parking now that they have expanded the site. Can't wait to go again!

Homely indian food

By Chirag P |

The food served is prepared with homely and sacred atmosphere which you can find in taste. Servers are devotees of the temple with ethnic attire.

Can do better

By jasag00 |

The ambiance was great, but the food was okay. All veggies, which can be okay but I have seen it done better. Overall just a bit weird.

Palace???

By ZenHealer7 |

Not sure why this Hare Krishna Temple is called a palace. It may look a bit like a castle from the outside, but not a palace. There are Hare Krishna / ISKCON cafes / restaurants and then there are some other. This is quite an unusual one outside of India that I have come across. It is squeaky clean, it is spacious and spread out, it has a wonderful ambience, there is a beautiful courtyard, and the food is one of the better ones I have had in these places. Food is served self service buffet style. The mung bean dhal I had was amazing, full of spices and flavor. So was the basmati rice infused with lemon, and the steamed greens with subtle spices and the paneer dish. The tamarind cooler was perfect for the Dallas heat, though the day I went, it was freezing cold! The coconut pineapple halwa was really good, made in pure ghee. For $9.95 (unlimited refills), this was a very good deal. The place is tucked away on a quiet residential street, and sits very inconspicuously, even though it is huge. Give it a try.

Very good vegetarian place

Best vegetarian restaurant

By pankaja |

Kalachandji's is the best vegetarian restaurant in Dallas. Reasonal prices for great food, nice atmosphere, garden courtyard and friendly service. They don't have set menu, but you will never be disappointed. Sometimes you wonder how can they prepare such awesome vegetarian dishes! Worth a visit even you are not vegetarian.

Best Vegetarian/Vegan Food in Dallas

By Dana R |

I'm here once a week - it's easily the best place to eat Indian vegetarian/vegan in Dallas. The atmosphere is wonderful: soft music, twinkling lights and a fountain in the courtyard eating area, and staffed by the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. You serve yourself buffet style here and seat yourself either inside or out in the courtyard (my favorite) at either a booth or table. A staff member will come by and offer you drink refills and dessert. The menu changes daily, so be sure to check either the website or FB page to see what's being served. This restaurant is inside Kalachandji's Palace. It's an intimate setting under the same roof as a center of worship and neighborhood gathering place - not boisterous or assembly line at all. Both lunch and dinner are served.

Nice Vegan Option

By czmdivenut |

Buffet of vegan food. Very good and plentiful with dessert included in the price (we were stuffed and did not get any). Vegan lasagna was really good and there were lots of other choices - some very spicy.

Great place

By i_am_brendanc |

A visit here is more than a meal. The restaurant, situated inside the palace, offers vegetarian (mostly vegan) food. It is served cafeteria style. Some outdoor seating available. In addition to fantastic food, one can learn to cook vegetarian food and take classes in yoga, tai chi as well as other offerings. They have a gift shop too.

Hard to truly describe

By Ron C |

Wonderful, fresh and interesting. I used to come here in the early 90s when my office was downtown. After all these years the food was still fresh, consistent, and interesting. The peacefulness here is a refreshing change (again, you have to go to understand). Sunday night is a great time since it is busy. Don't miss the opportunity to go in the temple after your meal

Great place to have a delicious meal

By bchace |

Food is served buffet style and is all homemade. Wonderful for lunch or dinner. There is also a cute little shop with books, clothes, jewelry, and other assorted stuff from India. It is a family favorite where you can sit indoors or out and after you are finished eating, the waitress/waiter will ask if you would like dessert.

I was skeptic the first...

By joelizard |

I was skeptic the first time I was invited, because I am not a big fan of Indian food. But, this place is awesome. The restaurant is a temple, and the dining area is very relaxing. The food is buffet style and it tastes great. The dessert are delicious. They have a strawberry pudding and a mango dessert. The tamarind juice is also great. The impressive part is that the prize is really adequate, and the food gets you fool with one plate!!

Groovy vegetarian dining at its best

By DScotL |

Kalachandji's is in the Krishna temple and staffed by residents. It's a vegetarian buffet with a nice selection of tasty, but not overly-spicy foods. The courtyard seating area is very nice. I've never observed any proselytizing. If you are interested in the Krishna's you can wander the halls a bit.

Fantastic Vegan & Vegetarian

By Bryant |

I have eaten here several times and I have always been very pleased. You couldn't ask for a more peaceful setting and the food is always fresh and flavorful. It is a great bargin for all you can eat. Visit the palace while there, it is beautiful! In keeping with Krishna doctrine, the cost of the meal is a suggested donation, we always pay a little more.

Delicious

By Bollymom |

My husband who once was a vegetarian thought it was the best vegetarian he had ever eaten. Don't know any specifics about the ethnicity or origins of the food but it tastes wonderful whether you are a strict vegetarian or not. Would love to take cooking lessons from the chefs!!

Not what i had expected

By catandape |

The food was not what i expected with all the good reviews i thought for sure the food would be fantastic but i was wrong. The food was bland not very much spice or flavor at all. I have had some really amazing indian food( Taste of India southlake,TX) on a regular basis. We wanted to try some place new just because. The atmosphere was nice though. It was a good experience but not one i will do again.

One of the quintessential Dallas experiences

By sassathon |

Kalachandji's is one of my favorite Dallas dining experiences. It's an oasis In a city that celebrates giant portions and tons of red meat. Located inside a Buddhist temple, the Kalachandji's buffet menu changes daily. Staples are a salad bar, steamed veggies with tahini, brown or white rice, sauteed greens, and dal, with two rotating entrees. All of the entrees are great, and the sauteed greens (mustard greens, spinach, collards, etc) are always amazing. There's also pappadam and homemade cinnamon raisin bread, the latter of which makes an excellent dessert. Kalachandji's clearly marks which menu items contain dairy, and all are obviously vegetarian, so this is a great spot for someone with a limited diet. But hey, even if you eat meat, if you've got tastebuds I think you'd love Kalachandji's.

Best vegetarian restaurant in Dallas

By doctorecr |

This restaurant is housed in an old church converted to a Hare Krishna temple. It's about an exotic as a place gets in Dallas. It's a little hard to find but well worth it. Please note that this is a vegetarian only restaurant - carnivores will be disappointed. There's a lovely enclosed outdoor patio suitable for dining in most weather due to heat lamps suspended over each table. The food is served buffet style. The food ranges from quite good to wonderful - and I'm not a vegetarian! Be sure to take your shoes off to tour the temple proper. There's also a gift shop worth a look. I found a beautiful silk sari there I hung as decoration over my fireplace.

Wonderful surprise

By cathefrank |

Kalachandji's looked interesting. I have not had Indian food and a buffet seemed the way to go. I was surprised to see it housed in a residential area and felt that I had the wrong place as it is in a religious building. So glad we came. Both my husband and I liked everything we got. The food was well made and you can't beat the all you can eat for one price. Even though it was hot, we sat in the outdoor area because the atmosphere was so inviting. Wish this was in my hometown. I would frequent it often.

The Best Vegetarian Restaurant In America To Me!

By Leza M |

I've been coming here since the first day they opened 32 years ago. It is the BEST Vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to and continues to be the best. The ambiance especially outside is magnificent. The food is delicious. In college in the 70's the Krishna's used to do free foods at school and now they have this beautiful restaurant, delicious food, great people that takes credit cards. I'm sold & have taken dozens of friends, family and clients there and will continue to for years to come. Leza M.

A tranquil delight!

By Lisa B |

Kalachandji's is my favorite restaurant in Dallas. We used to eat there once a week when we lived in Dallas. The restaurant is right next to the Temple, but there's no proselytizing. The food is vegan and from a variety of cultures, not just Indian: Thai, Italian, even BBQ. The Krishnas do not eat onions or garlic, they substitute a different spice, so the taste is different but still great. The food is served buffet style. There's a very romantic atmosphere with a beautiful outdoor courtyard with a fountain. Great date night restaurant!

Spiritual Food

By Travelphobic2018 |

The Kalachandji Restaurant is located within the Radha Kalachanji Temple just North of I-30 in East Dallas, within blocks N of the Fair Park on a residential block. This restaurant, run by the Hare Krishna Community and keepers of the Temple, has been an old standby for Dallas vegetarians for decades. Last evening's dinner buffet included lentil soup, spinach/green salad, chickpea curry, egg plant potatoes, and spinach/cheese lasagna with numerous trimmings. Cost was around $15 per person (including a tea beverage), more than reasonable for the all you can eat sumptuous buffet. Obviously this is not vegan as dairy products are used. The rice pudding desert was heavenly though on the small side. All the food was delightful without overpowering. Overall flavors were lighter than what one expects from classical Indian fare, favoring the Western palate. The attentive international serving staff was attired in classical sarongs. Coupled with a charming courtyard setting, the dining experience gives off exotic and idyllic vibes, presenting a unique dining experience for any open-minded visitors to Dallas.

Great Vegetarian Food

By tmsvan2 |

If you are looking for something a little different, Kalachandji's would be a good choice. The cafeteria styled, vegetarian, buffet type lunch is served in a cozy little restaurant located in East Dallas in the Hare Krishna temple. The food was excellent and the atmosphere pleasant. I will return to this spot when I"m in the area.

A Very Nice Vegan Lunch!!

By Joe G. Bear |

My friend and her daughter brought me here for a nice vegetarian lunch on Ash Wednesday (02/26/2020). The selection was buffet-style, with tasty choices like Noodles, Steamed veggies and rice. I especially enjoyed the pudding selection for dessert. Very welcoming in a relaxed environment. This restaurant is located inside a temple, but I didn’t need to take my shoes off. Service very friendly. Good alternative to a burger place and much healthier too!! FIVE CLAWS UP!!!!! Thanks for reading my review of Kalachandji’s Restaurant in Dallas. Peace - Joe G. Bear

Okay

By jasag00 |

Very unique setting and the food was okay, but not your typical Indian buffet- even by vegetarian standards. The options were limited and the salad bar was bigger than Indian selections.

Best vegetarian in town!

By MacTurq |

I love this place. The food is consistently great... It has Indian overtones... A raw bar. I eat there once or twice a week!

Best vegetarian dining in Dallas

This place is visually appealing and the food has left my friends and I craving it again. The variety and spice levels are terrific! This is a must try for everyone!

Great food - laid back atmosphere

By Monica M |

This place has excellent vegetarian food, and a good variety. Definitely has a Indian flare with a good amount of flavor and spice. Don't let the locations fool you, it's definitely worth the trip. It's buffet style, so you go through the line to get food and then a waiter will help you if you need it/for check.

This Palace of Delight could change you to Veganism

By yesiknowjack |

I know it is hard to find (like most great places). It is located in a Exotic Hare Krishna Indian Hindu Temple or Palace. And it is vegetarian food. But, once your inside in the peaceful atmosphere and eat the most delicious food you ever had.. Your mind will change.. The food is almost spiritual it is so good! It is prepared from spices found in the ancient Vedic literature's from 5,000 years ago and combined with natural ingredients becomes a wonderfully uplifting meal... Oh, and it is also good for you! The price is based off the timeless belief of donations and the staff is helpful, nice, and quiet. Just like the relaxed ambiance of the fabulous inclosed but outdoor courtyard that is large and contains trees, water accents and stain glass. The food is served buffet style so that you can try a little of everything and then eat all you want of the things you like. Many of the menu items I cannot pronounce but they are 'all' great! My favorite is the lasagna which I'm told is made with egg plant but I could never have guessed if I had not asked about it! And, don't forget to try the Tamarind Tea which I have become addict to!!! You can also tour the Temple... but remember to remove your shoes as a courtesy. A few years ago Rod Stewart came in to eat after buying a Lamborghini at of all places The Mansion on Turtle Creek (dealer met him there with 3 different colored cars) and sat with me...WOW and we had our pictures taken and are on the entrance wall. He said he had come to Kalachandjis to relax and get away from all the media and press there! So, don't be surprised if famous people come in to eat.. because they do all the time! They have a small store if you want to buy an item to support this age old tradition. They are closed on Mondays but you can come and have lunch every other day of the week! The Palace is a great place to go by yourself, a date, family, client or group. The food is always great! So... What are you waiting for...??? Go have an adventure and eat too!

Best Vegetarian Lunch Imaginable

By Michael K |

As vegetarians, my wife and I have had lunch in many vegetarian restaurants in a number of countries. Lunch at Kalachandji's was simply the best. There are plentiful fresh, raw vegetables and the cooked dishes are as fresh and delicious. Not to be missed is their special tamarind drink - light, fresh, and delicious with a meal. Lunch is served cafeteria style - all you care to eat - and they bring your choice of desserts and endless tamarind drink refills to the table. A wonderful meal for $10 per person!! The real bonus to the food was the seating. We chose a booth in the courtyard, which is enclosed on all four sides by the building, but open to the sky with a large tree growing in the center. True dining al fresco on a pleasant day.

So Delicious and lots of gluten free options

By Micmacmocha |

The dinner buffet at Kalachandji's is to dine for. I only wish I had room in my stomach for a second round. Everything is freshly made from scratch. The Dahl soup had the perfect balance of warming spices without being too spicy. The okra and potatoes were out of this world. The pumpkin was amazing. There is a white board at the start of the buffet with the names of all the dishes. There are little magnets next to items to notify of any as allergens present in the dish. For example the magnets used to indicate gluten had little sheaves of wheat on them. Thankfully MOST of the buffet items were gluten free. But if one is super concerned about cross contamination--it is a buffet, for example the naturally GF papadums are kept near the bread items. So I would not say this place necessarily goes out of the way to avoid possible cross contamination. I had no issues though. One thing I really wish Is that the items would be labeled on the buffet itself. They were only listed on the whiteboard, so I had to keep asking what was what to make sure I was making safe choices. The gentleman refreshing the buffet answered my questions but seemed to be a bit in a hurry. But they can't expect people to automatically know what everything is just because it's listed in one place. That's my primary "issue". There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating if in courtyard with a large tree in the center. Hard to explain, wish I had taken photos. I absolutely LOVE this place and would live there if I could.

Most awesome food & spiritually fulfilling place

By surensbs |

I was taken to this place by friends while looking for pure veg indian food. It was such a pleasant surprise as it was a very serene and beautiful place with one of the most hygienically prepared tasteful veg food. The price us extremely reasonable for a full spread veg dinner buffet. It was not just food but the live with which it is being prepared makes the difference in its taste and quality. I strongly recommend this place for all food connoisseurs.

A delightful dining experience!!!

By kesari p |

If you’re in the Dallas area and feeling peckish, Kalachandji’s is the place to visit. It is run by the Hare Krishna movement and the food ( all vegetarian) is lip-smackingly good. The restaurant and the Hare Krishna temple are in the same building and a buffet lunch costs 10 Dollars!! Can you believe it? For this amount, you get to eat all the rice and rotisserie you want with a bewildering array of salads . Desserts are extra. We had the Kesari halwa and it was a fitting end to our meal. The restaurant is located in a quiet, leafy residential suburb and the idols in the temple are a feast to the eyes. The ambience inside is wonderful. Overall, a wonderful dining experience.

And now for something completely different.

By gamerodoyle |

Ok, so you are not a vegetarian. And yes, it's kind of weird going to a temple to eat, but get out of your comfort zone and do something different. I love this simple little place, with the year round lights on a tree and the cool booths and tables and intimate outdoor seating. The food is tasty too.

Oustanding Food in a Serene Atmosphere

By HappyDaySherrie |

Kalachandji's food is so delicious you just know it was prepared with love and happy energy. Without a doubt this place is my favorite restaurant in Dallas, and I've always thought it worth the drive over from Ft Worth. Every single item I've tried there has been tasty and I can't remember a time that I didn't take at least two trips through the buffet line. The cinnamon bread is to die for - if you call a couple days ahead of time you can have a loaf reserved to purchase and take home. I always leave feeling satisfied - physically and spiritually. A wonderful place, all around. LOVE LOVE LOVE Kalachandji's!!

Absolutely worst Indian food

By Puskar D |

I am so surprised by the amount of high praise this place has received. This is an absolute slap in the face to Indian food. All food options are Americanized. There were couple of Indian menu items but they tasted terrible. If you are looking for Indian food, don't be cheated by the online review. It's not INDIAN. Atmosphere was okay. By reading the online reviews, I thought we went to wrong place but we had not. We were here and the food is anything but Indian. Few things that were still okay: Price, Atmosphere, Servers (very nice) But because of how bad the food was, I don't think this place deserves anything more than one star.

Delicious simple indian fare

By FinlaWanders |

This is a temple, a palace and a restaurant, all in one place. The lunch menu is buffet style and has a great salad bar. My favorite dishes were mustard greens and lentil soup and peas curry. My husband raved about their rice pudding dessert. Special mention about their delicious tamarind cooler. The food is priced at $10.99. They also have different kind of tea bags, if you like a post meal tea. Service is good and food reminds me of simple temple food back in India. The food may not be for everybody, but, if one likes temple food, they are sure to appreciate the meal prepared here without using onions and garlic(staple in indian cooking). There is a nice seating area next to the buffet counter and also open seating in their courtyard. There is a soothing indian music in the backdrop and everything about this place just feels so spiritual. I loved my experience so much that I will be back soon.

40 Stars

By Dr Tia Jolie |

We rarely give out 5 stars, but we found this gem on TripAdvisor while we are traveling to Dallas. I hosted seven guests and each of them raved about the food, the service and the ambiance. Seriously, this is not happened before, but we had complete agreement from all 8 of us that this is a Solid 5 Star within this very affordable price range.

A Buffet for Those Wary of Buffets

By abroadwithashley |

The walls of Kalachandji’s are covered in rave reviews from across the decades that they have been providing vegetarian food to the people of Dallas. It’s nothing to say that Kalachandji’s is, without a doubt, the best vegetarian restaurant in Dallas. Do exactly one internet search and you’ll see countless others saying the same thing. The atmosphere is amazing, the food is fantastic, and the prices excellent. What more could you want?

A hidden gem

By Coconut2011_4 |

This buffet restaurant is located near the Arboretum in an old church building. The food was fresh, nicely prepared and was vegetarian and/or vegan.

It is much more than just a food !

By YatriForever |

This is one of the live, scientific and practical illustration of food cooked with devotion and love. It is almost flawless as it is more of a Prasad of the God, rather than something to quell the hunger. It was such a treat for us to eat here, never expected this in this Krishna temple of Dallas. Full points to the volunteers and the people associated with this.

Excellent food and service

By Turtlepuch |

We ate here trying something new and out of the box. Best experience. The food was so good the bbq tofu was my favorite and the mint chocolate cupcake mmm good

Incredible experience!

By 2Lowrys |

I was slightly intimidated by the fact that this is a Krishna temple, and the neighborhood it is in. I had nothing to worry about! They serve a buffet, with delicious and different homemade food! The tea was outstanding, too. The patio is a beautiful, serene place to sit and have lunch. If you are an adventurous eater, you will be happy! P.S. I am not vegetarian, but never missed having meat because the food was delicious and fulfilling.

Who knew? Complete and tremendous experience

By TheMudPoet |

So... We were staying at an Air BnB and in the little one sheet, with the house rules, the Internet code, and the emergency phone numbers, was a few local suggestions of where to eat. One of them was the vegetarian buffet at the Hindu Temple. First of all, the exterior of the building is a rare treat. A mix of Indian trading land heavily influenced by notes of the southwest. Then, clearly marked passages to find the restaurant and a buffet that rivals many of the better Indian restaurants that we've visited across the country! Probably 12 different hot choices plus both white and brown rice, a full salad bar, beverages and dessert for $13.95 per person. Leave your shoes in the 'shoe room' and take some time to wander into the sanctuary for vaulted ceilings painted with clouds, elaborate wood carving, a suite of 8 murals and a huge altar! There is a gift shop filled not only with trinkets and clothing but a decent selection of books about Hare Krishna. I read about a quarter of 'Urban Monk' while standing there... We are planning to go back on Saturday night!

Delicious, nutritious, and generous feast

Finally, a restaurant that serves truly sattvic food in a spiritual setting. Hope this trend will pick up. The mango kesar dessert was outstanding and all other items were delicious too. Overall, a sumptuous treat to cherish for a long time.

Delicious (if a bit spicy!) food in a tranquil courtyard setting. The buffet line eliminates the need for a menu and server; you just take what you like from the changing daily menu, with a full salad bar as well. The desserts are amazing; the day I was there one of the choices was vanilla kheer and a week later I'm still thinking about it. Fairly priced for comforting, healthy food in a city dominated by burgers and bbq spots.

Great interior, plentiful food

This place serves vegetarian Indian cuisine. We ate in a charming courtyard but the place was a little confusing since it was our first visit. There is a parking lot in the back. The "main" entrance is marked by a covered door. It is not in bigger part of the building. There were worship services in process in another part of the building and signs that pointed to the shoe room. We finally figured out that taking shoes off was not a requirement for the restaurant. The restaurant is cafeteria syle. You queue at the door to go through the line to pick out the food you want. You serve yourself so can choose the amount. The cost of the food is by donation although there is a suggested donation price. When we went on Sat at lunch, it was $10.95 per person.

Animal-friendly (i. e. Vegetarian) Sumptuousness.

Adjacent to a Hindu temple, Kalachandji's offers a spectacular ambiance and a wide range of what to Western palates may be exotic textures and tastes. I can't pretend to know my way around this cuisine, but the staff are knowledgeable and efficient without hovering. We enjoyed a longish meal, never felt rushed, came away vowing to return as soon as possible.

Nice experience

Food was buffet style and there was so much variety. After looking at some many good and positive reviews i wanted to give this place a try on my trip to Dallas and was not disappointed. Tamarind Drink is definitely a must try.
