Love Kampai!

By Omaily |

Great rolls! Great service! Try the Tomkha soup! Delish! Mango roll is amazing! Prices are reasonable!

Great for Japanese Food presently

By Teavelmia |

Restaurant vary greatly occasionally, but Kampai is going thru a great time. The quality of the food is great, service is good, and prices are very reasonable. Been to this restaurant before, but it’s booming at this particular time. The restaurant is very busy which means food is fresh (seafood), and the service is not compromised. Great time to attend.

The regular please

By ReneeA515 |

I come here often simply because the food is great, the atmosphere is laid back and it's always quick service. I frequent Kampai with my friends whenever we want delicious and inexpensive sushi. for $20 each person we can order a cup of wine, a tuna tower and a roll. Definitely do recommend anything on their menu as everything I am convinced is delicious. Will keep going until I am dead....for sure :)

Family Sushi Night

By nibaldom2015 |

Family Friday night sushi, and just have to say oldie but goodie. Have been here on many occasions and still say one of the best sushi restaurants in Miami. The jalapeño hamachi appetizer or tuna tower are delicious. The Sushi Mori or boat for two are delicious. The Sushi here is fresh as well as their other dishes(Steak teriyaki). The prices are fair compared to some other restaurants with lots of fanfare and aren't all that good. Enjoy

My vote for Best Tom Kha Soup!

By Shersei |

Not crowded on a Saturday night...surprising because this place is so delish! It is a cute little restaurant with a staff that seems to take pride in what they do. They were all very accommodating and wanting to please. We brought our own bottle of wine. I called ahead and was told there would be a $10 cork fee. I didn't mind...still wanted my wine. After all...does it get any better than a good glass of wine and some great sushi!!?? I started with the Tom Kha soup...the best I have had in a long time. I live out of town and I am craving that soup! My sister started with the Kanisu...omg...I had a taste and whoa...that was amazing. I highly recommend starting with that! I def. would get that every time. For my main course I picked the Dragon Roll and also the aged tofu. Sis ordered the pineapple fried rice (table next to us had that rice and she had to try it too). Our food was all fresh, seasoned perfectly, nice portions, and memorable. We even had left overs (YAY!). Service was spot on and prices were reasonable for quality and portion size. If this restaurant were in my hood It would be my "go to place"... It was that good!

Excellent oriental Restaurant.

Top-Notch Sushi Experience AAA+++

By Mikelob |

Have driven past this restaurant a thousand times to and from work but never stopped in. My wife and I were in the mood for sushi and were in the neighborhood so decided to give it a try -- why didn't we do this 10 years ago? What a pleasant surprise, we received a very friendly greeting upon entering and were given our choice of seating. Upon being seated we were given a complimentary small bowl of fruit pieces in a semi-sweet vinegar, very nice touch. We ordered our 'usual' dishes - the miso soup, seaweed salad and an assortment of rolls (this gives us a baseline for comparing to other Japanese restaurants). By and large we found that the dishes were either comparable or exceeded the quality of our 'favorite' restaurants. The service was very friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience -- we'll definitely be back!

Lunch Bonanza

By sdemarchena |

Quick seating and friendly service with a meal to last all day. I ordered the sushi/sashimi/teriyaki lunchbox special and could not believe the large portions served. Combine that with a hot sake, and you leave a happy clam!

Out of the way, cozy and friendly

A bit hard to find but a great quiet Japanese/Thai restaurant with amazingly fresh and good tasting Sushi. Has two seating areas and 7 seats at the Sushi bar and a great spot to get a quick bite. Was there today and it was packed for lunch.

Good Local Sushi

By Dale D |

It's been many years since I've eaten here. I've forgotten how good it was. Very simple dining room, but efficient service, extensive menu, fair prices, and good sushi plus Thai. We started with the Tuna Tower appetizer (enough for three to share), and then each had our own roll. All of the rolls were attractively prepared, and more than enough to eat. In fact, I took half of mine home for lunch tomorrow! Quiet atmosphere and adequate parking in their own lot. We shall return sooner this time.

rude

By Michael E |

I recently when to kampai on a date and was completely shocked by their customer service. I have gone multiple times over the past couple years. When we were sat there were two small tables side by side and the table where our seats were placed at was extremely wobbly. So we decided to swap the tables. when our waiter came back we were told we couldn't do that and we were placed us back at the wobbly table. I then asked to speak to the manager and asked kindly to be sat at another table. the manager was very kind. She our waiter sit us down. He than handed us our menu and proceeded to ask us if we were ready to order. My girlfriend then responded in a kind matter that she would like a minute or two to read the menu and he responded saying " the kitchen closes in 5 minutes so i need your order right now. this would have been somewhat understandable but the fact that their website stated they closed at 11 and it was 9:45 when we walked in was unacceptable. Also the tone in his voice was extremely rude and seemed like he was bothered by our presence. I immediately responded by getting up telling him how rude he was being and spoke to the manager to inform them I would write this review. from past experiences their food is decent but there service has been horrible like taking forever to give us water or take our order. i will not be returning to this restaurant again

Always fresh and fantastic

By Patrkbukly |

I always have the #1, Shrimp & Veg tempura box. Has sashimi, sushi, shrimp and veggie tempura, salad or soup and a few rolls. Really well done. Service is always good. Easy parking plus you can stop in the reptile store next door and see if they have any monkeys for sale...no really.

Consistently fresh

By Patrkbukly |

Excellent fresh sushi all the time. Great little typical sushi place with no frills but great food and good price value.

Perfect, just Japanese language is missing.

By Max Outlet |

We ran into Kampai by coincedence and we keep coming back. Prices are reasomable, food is perfect. We had ourselves surprised by the Yummy yummy sushi, but also the tuna tower is a treat or for that matter, all dishes we tried till now are good. Service is nice friendly and sometimes even funny! Soda's get free refills. No fancy place and we keep coming back! I"m almost afraid to write a great review, to prevent too many people from discovering oir little secret!

Nice get together

When with my old doubles partner and our corresponding wife’s... we have a great conversation while we enjoyed the Mango Roll, the super crispy roll and the Tuna Tower. Great service and amazing food

Family Celebration

By Vivian S |

The restaurant is small in size but the food is excellent. In addition, the staff is friendly and very attentive. For example in Saint Valentine's day they were given a red rose to every female in the restaurant. I love their miso soup, their ginger salad and their sushi boat. To serve better their public, they also serve fried rice, tempura style dishes, and chicken teriyaki, etc. Will highly recommend and will continue to come.

Japanese authentic

By peetsheets |

Our first visit here was in 2010, with a family member. Her recommendation was the highest honor as she had lived in Japan many years ago. And this visit was exceptional, the staff was very good at explaining the dishes, as none of us had ever been to Japan! The sushi bar is the first thing you see and the smiling faces of the chefs greet you. The place was very busy, but our large party was accomodated well. Our appetizers were crab rangoon, edamame, and if I remember some sort of tower of tuna. Even those of us that didn't care for sushi, tried the tuna before they new what had occured! They decided the tuna was wonderful. Tempura was nice and light, and the other dishes were as delicious and well presented. Next time we are in Miami, we will certainly dine here.

Sushi great place

Had a great experience and very good sushi and Asian meal. Good services and nice place. Located very central.

Great neighborhood Japanese/Thai find

By Scott W |

Stopped by here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. It is in an unassuming location and has parking. Their sushi Nori lunch special (6 pieces of sushi plus California roll and soup or salad) for $10 can’t be beat. Sushi was well prepared. They have other traditional Japanese and Thai dishes as well. Very attentive and pleasant service. Others in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves and had varied food choices, not just sushi. Will go back for dinner soon.

Good sushi

By Karen B |

Just order sushi. Tempura was oily. Thai food not good, few tiny pieces of shredded chicken in all meals. Garlic and ginger chicken did not taste anything like Thai food.

Solid

Food is good and service was good as well. Tons of options and everything we had was on point. Loved the dumplings and the sushi rolls were delish.

Fried Rice Delight

By Loubna N |

This place has the best fried rice. It is cooked to perfection. I really enjoy it and the wait does not exceed 5 minutes. It’s a perfect choice for families nearby. Their hot choices deserve a 5-star. Their sushi, however, can be improved though. I have been going there for 15 years and I will continue to. Totally with it!

By Gableshavs |

We started with the rainbow roll, which is perfectly made and very fresh, and the green papaya salad. The salad was ordered medium spicy and is one of the best in Miami. It's a combination of sweet, crunchy and so fresh, just delicious. Next we moved on to lobster pad thai and chirashi. Go here for authentic and fresh Japanese food. It's always consistently good. They do an awesome take out business and there is plenty of parking.

My favorite restaurant in Miami

By maria u |

I have been eating at this Kampai location since 1993 and it is by far my favorite restaurant in Miami. I have never, ever had a bad meal here. We visit them from 2-3 times a month (we come from the Redlands). They greet us by our first name and know what are favorite sauces are and what we want without asking for them. The service has always been excellent and the food is delicious. I have tried other Japanese restaurants but always come back to Kampai. the service is always fast and very friendly. It is really the best.

My favorite place to eat

By Roberto I |

Best sushi on Miami. My wife and kids eat here at least once a week. Sushi and vegetables always fresh. Crunchy spicy tuna roll is my a must have.

Great choice for sushi and Thai food too!

By ARodriguezP |

Being one of my parents favorite spots for sushi I recently met them there for a family dinner and was overall pleased with the experience. The menu selection is actually quite extensive ...they offer not only all the traditional sushi choices but also yakitori(grilled skewers) and a nice selection of Thai dishes too. They lost a star because the tuna tataki which I order often was not as good as others so on future visits I'll refrain from ordering that at Kampai. But everything else was quite good and tasted fresh something that is of the utmost importance when it comes to sushi. I found the service to be very friendly and efficient,we had both our Thai server and a busser visiting the table often making sure our water glasses were filled and empty plates removed. When in the West Miami or Kendall area Kampai should always be considered a good choice for Japanese or Thai.

BEST JAPANESE FOOD IN TOWN

By RamonJulio |

The food is always fresh, and the preparation is fantastic, the Japanese beer is served ice cold and the prices are very reasonable, when you go ask for my favorite waitress Tan.

Amazing

By Yeni P |

Excellent service! Amazing sushi! And a great time! One of my favorites is the Tuna Mushi appetizer.

Take out good too

By keysbreeze |

Today was second time I've been and it was soooo good! I ordered a modified roll so had to wait a few minutes longer but it was so worth it! Very simple roll with tuna, asparagus, cream cheese with soy wrap, and spicy mayo. Maybe they'll add it to the menu and call it Mare's Roll. I wish I'd have tipped the chef more!

Had a nice lunch great food healthy and good price

I went w some friends and I didn't eat suchi I eat the lunch specials we ate different and then prices were great and it was a nice size

#1 favorite restaurant

By Sophi B |

This restaurant is two blocks from my house & I make use of it! I got there once or twice a week & it is my favorite restaurant of all time. The sushi is amazing.. the sashimi is extremely fresh and every dish is beautifully done. I would definitely recommend the rainbow supreme roll, sashimi appetizer, & unagi sushi. Every now and then I will try a new item on their menu and I don’t think I have ever been disappointed. They also have great desserts. My family loves their MOCHI ice cream; they have chocolate, green tea, vanilla, and many more flavors. Another reason the go is that it’s not as expensive as other Japanese restaurants, but it does taste better!

Lunch, dinner, take out.

By Julio V |

Excellent variety of sushi and Thai food. Adequate portions, well presented. Lunch specials end at 2:30pm very strict. Casual atmosphere, quick service and great appetizers. Take out is great, 10% discount if you order online. I have not experienced. Delivery. Take out always ready when they promise.

Hmmm

By Ja Bu |

The parking was limited and when we walked in we were seated right away, given menus and it took them almost 15 min to get a glass of water. The waitress couldn't identify the pictures in the menu and couldn't give us any recommendations. So we tried the California roll and wonton soup and WOW it was very delicious. Our main course was the cashew with steak, and once again blown away. The food was very fresh and you could taste it. The food was outrageous and I would of liked to given a 5 but the waitress really needs to know how to be a little courteous since she was a bit rude. Other than that I would recommend this place for some cozy place y hat serves good sushi.

Delicious food

Family Dinner

By nibaldom2015 |

I am compelled to write a review because my family and I have been to many sushi restaurants in Miami, and a lot of them have had fan fare that's not warranted. Kampai at Sunset has a great staff, the service is attentive and most important the Sushi is fresh and delicious. Their yellowtail hamachi with jalapeño appetizer is delicious. Their boat for two is a great value and combination of rolls give you plenty of choices. If you do have members of family and friends that don't eat sushi not to worry, because there's plenty of Thai dishes. Enjoy.

By nibaldom2015 |

Have dined here on various occasions and the sushi as well as their other dishes are very good. The service here is also very good. With all that I have said I do believe it’s time to give this long standing restaurant a make over. The inside need to be updated as well as the rug that has been there for probably 20 yrs. it pains me to say this constructive criticism but I want this establishment to be around another 20 yrs. Enjoy

Damn good

Always fantastic. Great food, simple not too expensive. I get the #1 Sushi, Sashimi Tempura. All the dishes are great.

If you’re looking for a really good sushi 🍣 and Thai restaurant, look no further.......I haven’t been here in many years but decided to go last night......sushi rolls are big and full of fish 🐠......the salad dressing is awesome....sushi pieces are big so, they cut them in half, which was a nice touch......they were very busy, but they sat us immediately and the service was very good.....next time I will try some Thai dishes.......can’t wait to go back.....💫

No frills , just great food!

Can’t beat it! The food is always excellent! We love this place ...it is very consistent, always great food and service at the right price! Love the Tuna Tower!!! Very unique! Highly recommended!

CROSS CONTAMINATION OF FOOD RUINED MY BIRTHDAY READ STATE INSPECTION REVIEWS

By FancyCatsTravel |

Went for a pre-birthday meal because the entire family LOVES Japanese food. The food was VERY good the service was very poor, slow and had to call the restaurant on the phone to get someone to bring my check. Later that evening our daughter started to feel ill as did I but mine was nausea only our child was vomiting and serious diarrhea to say the least. We treated with otc meds but ended up in Urgent care with a bacterial stomach virus caused by cross-contamination of food and water eyc. We read the DIRTY DINING and state inspection reviews and saw they had MANY violations for unclean cooking, prep areas and food storage. I was shocked and disgusted and really upset because we LOVED the Kampai in Aventura and thought they were of the same franchise but I seriously doubt that. My child whos favorite food is Japanese is scared to eat it again and our family will NEVER go there again if anything will travel to Aventura and eat at the Kampai we have been eating at since the late 80's with no incident. Really scary it took a slew of heavy prescription meds and a week and a half with loss of work to recover from this and so I say read the state inspections on EVERY place you eat at from now on.

Happy family of four

By Travelwithcandace |

We were staying nearby and visited this restaurant for dinner on a Saturday evening. Parking was a bit tight but we managed to find a spot pretty quickly. We waited just a few minutes for a table. I love that they offer a sushi kids meal and there is something for everyone on the menu.

Fresh Sushi and Thai Food Restaurant

By Margolf53 |

This is one of our favorite place for Sushi. Actually we come here more often than not only because it is fresh. They are also open in the afternoon where others are closed until 5 pm. If you are a Sushi Lover this is the place. They also serve Thai food. It is worth going and trying. It is very casual and good to bring entire family and friends.

Excellent sushi and Thai food

By Lazaro Q |

My wife and I go to Kampai at least once a week. We consider ourselves foodies as our primary activity as a couple is going out to eat. We simply love Kampai because of the excellent food and friendly staff. The service is also usually quick unless you go during peak times as it appears that they have significant carry out orders. The sushi is the best that I have had in Miami and I have been to quite a few sushi places. I will normally order their caterpillar or zombie roll and my wife always has salmon nagiri. When I am not in the mood for sushi I will order their shrimp pad that, which is also very good. My wife and I always finish our meal with some red bean mochi ice cream. Kampai is definitely our place to go when we are hungry and looking for a great meal. I highly recommend Kampai for couples or families.

Excelent!

Awesome and delicious food!! I suggest the massaman curry, tuna tower and for dessert ice-cream tempura!!! Thai donuts!!

I KEEP GOING BACK....

By Florencia V |

I have been eating here for the past 20 YEARS! My father used to take me here when I was a child and I haven't stopped coming. I loved outside of Florida for a while and missed Kampai so much! When we moved back, it was the first restaurant we ate at. lol I loved when they introduced thai food to their menu, my favorite dish their chicken and cashew. Tasty and freshly made with veggies, thin slices of chicken and cashews all sauteed in a delicious sauce. My husband LOVES their sushi and has eaten in MANY sushi restaurants, but here is by far his favorite place to eat. If you want good Japanese/Thai food, come here, and enjoy!
