That was enough to get an aggressive attitude from the person who was cleaning the tables. After all what he said, I could only understand that they were NOT dirty! By the way, he came back to the table three more times to repeat the same to us. So we had to leave, who knows if he was also the cook!

Lunch was everything I hoped for! Delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and prompt, above and beyond service.

My son, his girlfriend and I had dinner at Kasbah the other night. We could not decide what to get so ordered several dishes to share. The carrot salad was a wonderful surprise. A light lemony dressing over perfectly steamed(?) chilled carrots hit the spot on a warm summer evening. We shared the meatball tangine and it was all we could to to not lick the plate clean. Be sure to mop up that sauce with the light fluffy pita. We also shared the seafood tangine, with plenty of shrimp, tiny scallops, potatoes, and white fish. The iced mint tea was so refreshing....still thinking about it. Check this little hole in the wall out, you won't be disappointed.

I lived in and have visited Morocco many times. Naji's Moroccan Cafe is completely authentic and special. He serves a variety of appetizers, fresh salads, and dishes ranging from veggie cous couse to bastilla, chicken tajine and merguez. The portions are way more than generous, quality is at the highest level, prices are extremely affordable, and the ambiance is informal and welcoming. Parking is available on the street. It's fun to bring guests but a meal there is just as enjoyable with a friend or special partner.

As French people living in Oregon we were so happy to find a Moroccan restaurant and we were not disappointed !!!! My husband and my sons loved your Tajine merguez sausages! Thanks Chef Naji!!!!

I stopped here for an early dinner on a hot day in August. No air conditioning, but that sort of enhanced the Moroccan atmosphere. I order a seafood dish with Tilapia, shrimp and scallops that was in a sauce the owner said was the most common Moroccan sauce. It had garlic, lemon, cilantro and Moroccan spices. It was incredible... Kind of like Indian food, but more delicious in my opinion. I also ordered a pot of Moroccan mint tea that I wanted unsweetened but, alas, it was quite sweet so I only drank a bit. Even though I didn't like the tea, the food and service more than made up for it so I'm rating it five stars. This cafe should be the first on your list if you're looking for something exotic in Portland.

Chanced across the Kasbah restaurant whilst strolling around Portland and as we approached the owner recognised my wifes handbag as from Morocco. He was very friendly and after chatting about his homeland he provided us with a truly wonderful meal. The chicken was cooked to perfection and very authentic. The restaurant is decorated in a genuine Moroccan style and very clean. I would love to return one day to try other dishes, especially the tagines. If you like Moroccan food then I highly recommend the Kasbah.

As we were strolling in Portland China Town at lunch time we accidentally came across this place. We decided to give them a try and it was well worth. The staff was incredibly nice. We tried the Merguez Lamb Sausage and Makouda Sandwiches which came with soup of the day. The food was absolutely delicious.

Yummy food! This was my first time trying Moroccan food and it was lovely. The portions were generous and at a good price. Also the owner came and had a chat with us as we were the only people there (we came at a quiet time so normally there is more atmosphere if that concerns you). The owner was sooo friendly, he told us stories of who he has cooked for (including sports teams and celebrities). We also had a lengthy talk about music as he saw us wearing AC/DC and scorpions T-shirts. He recommended us things to see in Seattle as we mentioned that we were heading there next on our travels. Honestly a great place would recommend!!!

My family and I were up visiting and had the most amazing meal in this lovely little place! Very friendly atmosphere, and the food was simply wonderful!

Fresh, flavorful Moroccan cooking made with care. We started with eggplant dig which had this amazing smoky flavor. For mains we had the kofta meatballs and chicken with salad Maison which combined sweet, savory, sour, spicy flavors together. Make sure you ask for the hot sauce made in house and order the beet salad! The restaurant is small, casual, with a few tables outdoors. I only noticed it because every time I passed by it was busy. They are located 1 block from the Red and Blue Max station and 1 block from the Society Hotel. The only open 7-5pm on weekdays and until 7:30pm on weekends so plan accordingly. If you are getting sick of eating donuts, tacos, fried food in Portland. Go here!

Fast and pleasant service. Got the romaine salad with fresh veggies of the day and pita bread. One word....yummy.

The food was very tasty and fresh tasting. I love eggplant so I got the appetizer and was delighted. Overall, I wish that I lived nearby so that I can could here often.

An eclectic cafe with great food. Walking around downtown Portland after going to the Arts and Crafts fair and found this cafe off the beaten path. Highly recommend. Excellent flavor. Owner/chef came around checking on each table.

I love Kasbah and not just because it is conveniently located near my office and has the cutest decor. The food here is pretty amazing. I have traveled to Morocco many times and am always blown away by how subtle and diverse Moroccan food is and what a travesty it is that most "Moroccan" restaurants in the US are like a mimicry of that fantastic cuisine. Kasbah's food is amazing and the owners are super genuine and accommodating. I recommend all of the tajine dishes and the eggplant dip.

This was a great find in old Portland. Our group had appetizers (three dips), three tagines (beef, lamb and seafood), as well as a chicken kabob/lentil special. All the food was EXCELLANT. Perfectly cooked and aromatically spiced.

Kasbah is absolutely magical! It was my family's first time trying Moroccan food and I am so glad we did. It is a small corner cafe, but it is truly something special. Chef Naji was so friendly when ordering. We got the garbanzo bean tajine, merguez (lamb sausage) tajine, makouda (Moroccan potato patties), Moroccan mint iced tea, and Moroccan spiced coffee. Each dish was fantastic, bursting with flavor and spice. It is reasonably priced for the portions as well. Highly recommend this place, and we look forward to returning!

This is a jewel in the crown of the NW Burnside revival area. Located 2 blocks from the Chinatown Gate and river walk, it is a real find.. the Moroccan Carrot salad was sublime, the 7 Vegtable Couccous can’t be missed. Be sure and order the table side Moroccan tea. The experience visually is wonderful. The portions are generous and easily shared. It is also very easy on the budget with most dishes under $10. Oh, did I mention it it has many vegetarian and vegan dishes along with lamb and chicken.

We really enjoyed chatting with the owner about Morocco and the history behind some of the delicious food he serves up from scratch. The spiced coffee and tea are served the traditional Moroccan way, and the flavors are out of this world. Recommended dishes include the seafood tangine, kefta meatballs, and especially the bastilla. Still trying to place this in my top 10-20 meals ever; it’s up there. Must come back soon for validation. Thank you Kasbah for a lovely and memorable meal!

We ordered chicken bastille, shakshuka , and vegetarian tagine. You order from the counter, and it’s self serve for cutlery, water, etc. Staff was friendly and helpful. The Food tasted really good. The restaurant is located in an area with lots of homeless people , but they didn’t bother us.

We visited Morocco in March, and fell in love with the country and the cuisine - SO we were most curious when we stumbled onto this restaurant in Portland which happened to be only a block away from our hotel - would it live up to our recent, authentic culinary experience? It sure did! This is bona fide Moroccan delicious! Also, comfortable and casual. Great foodie experience in Portland!

The decor, the music, and the food take me back to Tangier. This is the real deal. I had a Bowl of Harira (soup) served with the best bread you’ll ever eat. Also had a Moroccan couscous salad, fabulous! Wife had Macouda (a type of potato pancake), very good and tasty with s kick. The tea is to die for, no sweetening needed. GO THERE.

This was probably my family’s favorite meal of our Oregon vacation. Affordable pricing and quality preparation. Super yummy! We ordered a lot of food. While everything was delicious, our favorites were the seafood tangine, 3 dips, and potato cake sandwich.

i was staying at the nearby Hoxton, and happily discovered a Moroccan restaurant in the neighborhood. when i sat down for lunch on a weekday, i noticed that there seemed to be a mixture of regulars and tourists, which i took to be a good sign. not wanting to overdo it, i just ordered the chicken tagine. it was excellent - flavorful and tender, and served over basmati rice. it makes me wish that there was a Moroccan restaurant back in the other Portland (ME), where i live.

ll feel transported to another land with such welcoming chef owner, rhythms of Moroccan music filling the air, and the smell of exotic spices wafting through the kitchen. The small menu features many tasty delights including vegan and gluten-free options. Try the mint tea for a nice, refreshing drink!

This small cafe has a warm festive atmosphere, friendly service and the most AMAZING Moroccan food you could ask for at reasonable prices. I recommend the bastilla, beet salad and garbanzo bean tagine. Each of these dishes were scrumptious! Chase them with mint tea for the perfect meal.

I've eaten here several times before and the food and service are always good. This time I ordered the chicken Tagine with rice and it was excellent. The owner/operator/chef is very nice and friendly. I highly recommend this place for lunch.

Primarily serving breakfast and lunch, Naji - owner and native of Morocco - the Kasbah Moroccan Cafe offers up delicious tagines and one of the best bastillas I've eaten since traveling to Morocco. I moved into the neighborhood two months ago and I've already eaten here four times. I can't get enough of the food. Mint tea served either hot or cold adds more authenticity to the experience.

New and hot best Moroccan food Kasbah brings authentic Moroccan street food to Portland! Come enjoy the flavors and hospitality of Morocco.

I loved this place. I was travelling for work & had visited the Saturday market so was looking for a snack on my way home. Having visited Marrakech several times I've fallen in love with Moroccan food & this place fulfilled my expectations - I had Harira soup & mint tea, both were amazing and exceptionally good value. The owner is absolutely charming & I would really recommend this place for a chilled out drink/snack. I have recommended this place to my friends & colleagues and I really hope the Kasbah gets the recognition it deserves.

We entered this restaurant on a whim and we are very happy we did! The Harira soup is just as delicious as the one you get in Marrakesh, and so is the tagine.

Everything was terrific - but the lamb sausage egg red sauce combo was insanely yummy. The soup and bread were spectacular, I can't wait to visit again. It's cheap eats at their best. If you are looking for a fabulous under $11 lunch, this is your place.

A friend and I stumbled upon this place while in Portland for a convention. We both thought it was great. Strong, but not overpowering tastes. Fresh. Delicious. Friendly counter-service (not table - it's not a fancy place, just great). And also very vegetarian-friendly

Had lunch here when visiting Portland and highly recommend it. I had the breakfast merguez plate: excellent homemade sausage with a fried egg. We also had a salad and a very tasty potato side dish. Excellent service. Not much ambiance, but, hey, this is a cozy family business, and Naji (owner/chef) is justifiably proud of his food. Well done!

Cute little cafe. Beware, no air conditioning. Food and service were excellent. We ordered the chicken tangine and Murguez lamb sausage tangine. Both were fantastic. The chicken tangine was more refreshing, while the Murguez lamb sausage tangine was spicy and heavier. The sauces matched the meats perfectly. The final Halwa d’Tmar was a pleasant treat, dry and powdery on the outside, moist with the date filling in the inside. Very pleasant staff.

FOOD: EXCELLENT --- tasty and beautifully prepared! My companion ordered the garbanzo bean tagine and I the seafood tagine. Each was so enjoyable and enough for take-home leftovers. ATMOSPHERE: Beautifully decorated inside. Only complaint was the annoying (to us, anyway) piped-in NON-ethnic music. (Oh, and to use the restroom, we were instructed to go outside to a door through a kitchen “barricade” ---.) SERVICE: My immediate response after the visit was “WHAT service”?! Okay, we now belatedly realize after reading a previous review that this may be a SELF-service establishment, but we weren’t informed as such when ordering at the counter. So we were surprised when the food was brought to us (within a reasonable 20 minutes) before water, silverware and napkins were delivered. We each then got up to refill our water glasses and to request cartons for left-overs (for which there was a nominal charge.) But it would have been a nice touch if, at least once, someone (two employees were visible) stopped by to check on our meal. (On this weekday noon-hour visit, only one other customer was there when we arrived; another couple did come in later.) SUMMARY: YES --- we will definitely choose to eat here again for the deliciously wonderful food and atmosphere, and now with the belated understanding that we are presumably expected to serve ourselves.

Visiting Lan Su Chinese garden and wanted to have lunch. Found this small family owned place and were totally charmed and well fed. The meats are halal, the sausage is house made as is everything on the menu! Loved the carrot salad and beet salad. And don’t miss the mint tea. Traditional, sweetened mint tea served in a silver pot, poured into little glasses. Magical and yummy.

Me and my wife were visiting Portland ,Oregon in October and we were looking for a very well rated restaurant out of the norm. Kasbah is that place. From the time we entered the restaurant we were greeted by Chef Naji and gave us a great explanation of each dish. We had an appetizer which was filled with Chicken and had hot Tea as our beverage. We then ordered our main course. My wife ordered the chicken and I ordered the seafood. Heaven , Heaven, Heaven. That is how good the food is at Kasbah. Chef Naji also sold us on authentic desserts and they were so good we bought some to take home also. The restaurant is clean, Great service and Great food. I will definitely go there again.

Our group was looking for dinner in the area before we went into a show at The Whiskey. Found this gem through here. Everything was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The man at the counter, Kyle, was very nice and helpful. He gave us some great recommendations. My husband and I split the special, which came with chicken kabobs, moroccan rice, and split pea soup (if you like split pea soup, man oh man will you love this!). We also shared their lamb sausage sandwich on a fresh, perfectly toasted french baguette. Our table got a large pot of peppermint tea (a must try!). I don't leave reviews too often but I HAD to for this place! Best food I've had in a while. Our whole group was so happy with their choices. Go check them out! We will certainly be back in the future.

Visited here after spotting it across the road from the brew pub we were headed to. It is not possible to understate how good this place is. The food, the value, the owner were all exceptional. My son and I had, respectively, a Kefta and a Seafood tagline. Both were absolutely spot on. We had a great chat with the owner who was pleased to talk and keen to make sure the food was top notch. You simply cannot go wrong eating here if you are in Portland

I eat at this delightful cafe at least once a week. The food is fresh, delicious and unique. All the breads and baked goods are homemade. Try the yellow split pea soup, the homemade lamb sausage and the beet salad!

This is reasonably priced restaurant with good food. You order at the register and the food is brought to your table. Although nicely decorated with a Moroccan theme, the tables, chairs, and room itself combine to make this sort of a hole in the wall. It is clean, however. Vegetarian options are available.

I stopped by Kasbah Moroccan Cafe and noticed their simple but varied menu. Naji the owner was very hospitable. I chose the seven veggie cous-cous, with chicken for lunch. It was fantastic. The mint iced tea was tasty as was the homemade hot sauce suggested by Naji. The place is clean and cozy. I would highly recommend this place in the Old Town/ Chinatown section of Portland, OR!

Everything I ordered was good, but I loved the pastilla! The atmosphere is pleasant, and you can actually hold the conversation.
Great!!!
I Kasbah is great - a do not miss restaurant. Introduce yourself to Moroccan food. You won't be disappointed. I have been there many times with friends and all of us have returned many times.
