This is not a sit down restaurant, but don't let that stop you from stopping by and getting some great food to go. I never had tried Malaysian food before so I was not sure what I would be getting. I ordered a lamb dish and pickled mustard greens. I thoroughly enjoyed both.

What an interesting experience! Came here with my girlfriend and her brother on a Saturday night in July. The food is really good - try the roti and the nasi goreng - and you feel like you’ve been transported to Southeast Asia. Only downside is that the restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so plan for a long wait time.

Having never been to Malaysia I have no idea if what we ate was "authentic". What I can confirm, is that four foodies were hardly able to find something to criticize here. :) Three of our party of four were off to the MOPOP-- my job was to assure a table at Kedai Makan in time to make a Moth StorySlam. I was there at 4:20 for a 5:00 opening and was not the first in line (fifth). My party arrived at 4:55 and on the 5:00 dot the door opened. On the way in, we were offered sweet milky tea or pandan water (gratis). We made our selections and our food came quickly. The frogs legs in a chili/peanut "salsa" were delicious. We had fried fish with curry and sticky rice, a fried chicken dish, fried pig tails and some greens. Indeed, we had much more food than we should have. Of the aforementioned, the pigtails fell short -- they were still greasy, not crunchy...--- overall, however, the flavors were such that each kept eating well beyond being full. One person had a specialty cocktail which he loved. The beer prices were good. The price was also special-- even drinking alcohol, we left for about $30/head and hadn't held back in ordering at all. Definitely going back!

Best food ever! We hadn’t had Malaysian food for over 20 years and really enjoyed their menu. There were five adults we all ordered different food and everybody enjoyed everyone else’s choices.

Not like any food I have had. Great opportunity to try something fun. Chef has put his heart and soul into this place!

Some locals recommended this wonderful take out joint. We loved Kedai Makan so much we went there twice during our week stay. We tried the ribs and the nasi. Both were amazing. Be warned - the ribs are spicy as promised. We bought take out and then ordered some beers at Montana and ate there. Gold!

Freshly back from a trip to Malaysia, we wanted more of the great food and found it at this smallish place on the slope of Capitol Hill. The flavors are intense, the variety is good, and the price is right. They don't take reservations, and people cheerfully wait for a table: it's that good. The lamb dish is great, as is the fried rice and a wonderful drizzled noodle appetizer.(Wish I could remember the actual names!)It's not super spicy.

I'm a big fan of Malaysian food, but it's not so easy to find outside of Malaysia. So, when we were in town to visit our son and he suggested "this great place right around the corner from my apartment", I was all over it. Kedai Makan did not disappoint. Let's start with the cocktails. My wife had a Tequila Tumeric (or something), which sounds like a terrible way to ruin good tequila, but it turned out to be one of the better alternative takes on a Margarita I've tasted in quite a while. Not sweet at all, which I like. I had their version of a Gin & Tonic, and it was superb, with crushed lime leaves adding an earthy-bitter undertone that took the drink places even top-shelf tonic has never gone before. Thumbs up to the mixologists! We shared 4 different dishes, the ribs, the fried chicken, a tofu noodle thing, and something else (the cocktails were very strong). They were all excellent, and very nicely spiced. To be picky, the ribs were a little too sweet, and the spices could have been stronger (not just hotter) throughout. They would have been in Malaysia, but this is probably as far as you can safely go to introduce Americans to unusual flavor profiles without blowing them off their bar stools. Portions not Malaysian at all, but Seattle-style, which means go-boxes for breakfast. Prices very reasonable for what you get, especially considering that this is Seattle, where everything seems to cost more than you're expecting. And, a victim of it's own success, they just moved to larger digs and it's already too small. Long wait for a seat, for service, and for the food. Demand outstrips supply, and it's easy to see why.

I went there twice in the 4 days I was in Seattle! Both times I went after 11, so the menu is more limited but still packed with deliciousness. The highlight for me was the spicy pork rice, I could eat that for days! The roti canai is also really good...everything really went well after a night of drinking and dancing! I heard they're opening up a sit down location soon, but when I went it was a take out only place, however the bars next door let you go inside to eat. There are so many good places to eat in Seattle, but this will definitely be one that I go back to each time I go!

When I'm not in the mood to cook my dinner this is where i mostly end up and their Dhal-Rice at 4-5$ is just the hot meal I want and they are open late at night which makes this all the more convenient. Everytime i come back here i can count on a good food and Alyson serving that to us with a smile, The chefs are great too..:)

This was truly one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten, with a cuisine that was new to me and a variety of wonderful spices. Reservations are hard to come by but going early helps.

By far one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been too. The food is out of this world. Every dish was bursting with flavor and spices. The drinks were also amazing. I definitely recommend this place!!

I work and live most of the year in Asia. But, when I am in Seattle, I still find time to hit up Kedai Makan @ least a couple of times. One of the best restaurants in Seattle. Asian Street Food at its best! This restaurant originally started out just as a walk-up window - to go/take-out. Due to the popularity, they have expanded into a full restaurant. I was unsure of some of the unique items on the menu, but if you want to expand your taste buds and willing to try new and interesting dishes, than Kedai Makan is for you. Don't let a trip to Seattle come and go without a visit to this amazing restaurant. Evenings: 5pm-11pm Wed-Sat 5pm-10pm Sun Closed : Mon & Tues. Location: Lower Capital Hill on Bellevue Avenue, behind the Montana bar.

We really enjoyed dinner here! The portion sizes are generous and one entree was enough for two people. We she the ribs and rice, jala roti and cucumber and pineapple salad. All was really good - aggressive seasoning. The rib entree had enough for a generous snack the next day! Definitely recommend this place!

I have eaten at Kedai Makan a few times before, one time since the restaurant has opened and before that when they had a small storefront across the street from where they are now. I always get the pickled mustard greens and nasi goreng. This time, I also got a cocktail which was delicious. But the wait time was long and after we ordered food, it took a long time to get our dishes. The host of the restaurant was very rude to my date. On the positive side, they give you a lot of food. I don't know if I will be back though unless there are some new people who work there.

Yes - we had to wait for 2 hours for a table, on a Thursday night, and we were only 2 people. Luckily the Capital Hill area of Seattle has a number of bars that you can get a drink and hang out at while waiting. Once we got our table, we ordered the mushroom pan mee noodles, and the curry chicken naai goreng. Both were stellar and well worth the wait. The kitchen is tiny and you can see the feverish pace at which people are working inside. The only downside is that it can get pretty smoky from the kitchen fumes, and that is a bit unpleasant. Also - the water tastes very different - apparently they put pandan leaves in them.. tastes kind of like water that has some rice in it. Overall, amazing food and well worth the wait. If there is a next time, I want to go with 10 people so I can try more food

So fresh and delicious.. Girlfriend introduced me to her favorite restaurant in Seattle and was she ever right. Started as a food truck as Nd now they have this store front- I've never had the fortune to have tried the food truck but the cucumber salad is to unbelievable.. Everything was as good as I'd hoped.

This is a small place and can have long wait times. But the food is great and yummy. We love the Singapore noodles with the egg. Spicy and mixed well with spices. The roti with dhaal curry was also good. Finally found a good Malaysian place in Seattle !!

We were really quite disappointed having read the other TripAdvisor reviews. The food was clearly below average. The menu was very limited. It was cold and they did not even have hot drinks.

You've probably never had Malaysian cuisine and that's a real pity because you've missed out! This is one of those restaurants where i want to try the whole menu, since everything looks kinda familiar and kinda new! I particularly recommend the Nasi Goreng Belacan, Mushroom Pan Mee. Also get a side of those Malay style roasted peanuts :) If you’re like me, love Asian food you might be shocked to learn the struggles these communities are currently facing. We’ve seen almost 3000 anti-Asian incidents this past year and the number keeps rising. From physical assaults, to verbal harassment to civil rights violations across 47 states in America. We need to speak up, show our support and raise more awareness. It's time for us to remember the impact these communities have made in our lives. All we need to do, is love the Asian community the way we love their food. #ReviewsOfLove #StopAsianHate

Hidden in the heart of downtown Seattle, the restaurant is a local favorite. Impatient people be warned, the wait is often long--sometimes painful. The restaurant does not take reservations and has no reception area, so be prepared to walk the drizzly Seattle streets as you wait. Insider secret, poach one of the six bar stools to avoid the wait. The food is everything you would expect from traditional Malaysian chefs. An assortment of vegetables is worked into every plate. Powerful aromas fill the small dining room and flow into the streets. Each dish is carefully arranged into an edible art piece. But, it is taste that matters. These meals are not for the midwest palette. Intense spices overwhelm the senses and seem to change with each bite. Most plates are an assortment of noodles and vegetables--a direct link to the everyday local cuisine in Malaysia. For this pacific northwest hole-in-the-wall restaurant visitors need an empty stomach and an open mind. The flavors can verge into overwhelming. If this happens: sit back; take a sip of the Mother, a traditional digestive with revitalizing properties and take in the young Seattle atmosphere.

I enjoyed my first Malaysian meal. We shared the Koti Jala (Malaysian net bread) with curry dip and the Kerabu Timun Nanas salad. The peanuts and onion put the cucumber salad over the top. Both were so delicious that if I return on a future trip, that is all I will order, and I will hoard it for myself. I also had clay pot noodles with pork and prawns which was good. However, the bread with dip and salad were so excellent that anything else would pale in comparison.

This Malaysian restaurant is EVERYTHING! The food, drinks and service are perfection! The nasi goreng, kerabus, shrimp chips and EVERYTHINGGGG are delicious! I look forward to every visit to Seattle just to eat here! It's worth the wait (they don't take reservations, so it's first come first serve).

Some of the best food I’ve had in my life. There was a wait but 100% worth it. Lots of vegetarian options. The mushroom noodles, the pancake, the #cocolife drink, the desserts, all incredible.

Nice place, fantastic music albeit loud. Food was interesting mix of pan-Asian cooking. However, if you are looking for Malaysian classic signature dishes with appropriate spicing then this is not the place to go. Pricing was reasonable.

I ducked into this restaurant to get out of the sudden thunder shower and what a lucky thing it was. I have never eaten Malaysian food but certainly will again, it was delicious! I ordered the Nasi Lemak, labeled “Malaysia’s National Dish” on the menu. The rice was delicately flavored with coconut milk, the chicken was tender, the cucumber crisp, the peanuts perfectly roasted and salted, and the sauce spicy. It was affordably priced. Highly recommend!

Good luck getting a table here, but if you do it's worth it. Don't let the brick traditional exterior throw you off. When you walk in, it triggers ALL the senses. Spices are awakening, the color inside a vibrant blue, the noise is loud like an Asian market back east and the people all diverse. The frog legs were a favorite. The lamb rice was also excellent and ofcourse the pancake curry. So unique!

Heard many rave reviews about this place so I finally decided to try it out. I got there just after 7pm on Sunday and there were queues inside already. The wait was around an hour for a table or a 10 min wait for a seat at the bar. I took the bar option. Menu is quite simple. I ordered pork with noodles. They had a big selection of drinks and cocktails though It took about 20 mins to arrive. But that was fine. The noodles were fresh and the soup was delicious. Just the right amount of flavouring. Portions are generous. I saw the people sitting next to me with a Gado gado salad so I ordered one to go. I had that the next day and it was still awesome. Loaded with peanut sauce and just seasoned right. Before I left there was a man standing behind me waiting for my seat already. I wasn’t keen on that Prices around $15 for main dish. Probably the best Malaysian food that I’ve had outside of Malaysia

When people say to get in line at least a half hour before opening time, it’s no joke. You can certainly come later, but the wait can be lengthy. You do not want to sit at the bar. We’ve been twice, sampling different dishes each time — except for the roti jala, which you pretty much need served to you on a daily basis. The only dish that was meh was the pork belly — seven others were outstanding. The combination of spices is unusual and delightful. The coconut “shakes,” with or without rum, are addicting. At $8 for the “with alcohol” option, they’re a bit pricey, but try one as a treat. Given how busy the place was (on a Sunday and a Saturday evening), the service was excellent.

Always a long wait, but oh my, is that food delicious!! This is one of the few places where I won't bat an eyelash at waiting 2+ hours to sit down. I could eat those mushroom noodles every day of my life!!

This was my first time having Malaysian food and it was amazing! They had some curry-like dishes, a laced flatbread, a salad, some pickled onions as a side, and more! The wait was one hour even at opening time though but the food definitely made up for it. I also only eat humane meat so they didn't have lots of vegetarian options but the ones they had were great and the meat ones looked as good. There was also a coconut milkshake and it was the best milkshake I've ever had. I want it every day now!

Service was excellent. We loved the appetizers (shared by four of us): marinated salad, Indonesian bread with lamb curry dipping sauce. Yummy! The duck leg soup was bland. The fried chicken biriyani dish was excellent. Not sure about our friends' entrées, but they didn't finish them. Pleasant ambience but noisy for conversation.

I can't believe I haven't tried this place until now. I met up with 3 friends and two of us had the popular Nasi Goreng. Absolutely delicious! I had enough to share and for a 2nd meal. We walked our meals over to Montana Bar next door and washed it all down with Moscow Mules. I am already planning my next trip!

This street style Malaysian food. They have no phone and a very variable menu. The place is small, we took food out. It is definitely worth trying.

They are no longer at this space and have moved around the corner to an actual Brick & Mortar space on Bellevue st with seating. The space on Olive was a cute walk up window with sweet street charm which has now kinda lost its way in the hustle & bustle of the big city. We had to wait at 6pm for over an hour for our table , service was friendly and helpful . Menu has changed since now they can serve booze & have added a few new items and taken away some favorites from the old space. The Nasi Goreng Rice dish I'm so fond of was wet and sloppy and the taste had changed. We tried a new chicken dish and it was tasty , the curry noodles were lacking in curry. I prefer the window , somehow it seems the quaintness & quality has got lost in their growth. I would prefer to stand on the side walk and eat my meal from the old place but I'm very happy for their success.

This Malaysian restaurant is a gem. I ordered a take out from them. Roti Jala with Dhal was fabulous. For those familiar with South Indian cuisine it is Idiappam and thick Sambar. Very authentic taste. Nasi Goreng was also fantastic. It is tofu fried rice with fried onions and fried egg on top. It’s fried, oily and unbelievably tasty. The portion size is very generous. Two people can share this dish. Both of these cost me $22 before tip. It’s very reasonable for the cuisine, The downside is that I had to wait 30 minutes for take out. For dine in the wait was hour and a half. There was long queue inspite of that. If you are single or two people it’s easy to get a table. Larger number of people have to wait. A must try spot in Seattle.

Very popular place in Seattle. They open at 17:00, so you had better stay in line around 16:30 since they do not take reservations. The wait is worthwhile. The food is great: spicy and tasty. Every dish is a hits.

My son who lives in Seattle raved about the food here. He grew up in Singapore and I thought that's because he misses the hawker food. We ordered everything under the sun. The portions were generous and very reasonably priced. It's like Malaysian, Singaporean,Indonesian hawker style food taken to another level with the use of freshest local ingredients. We ordered Roti Jala, Balachan chicken wings, Beef salad, Clams Beehoon, Chili Pan Mian, Lamb Nasi Goreng, Maggie Mee Goreng, Chicken Curry. Every dish was a 5 stars!! We were stuffed and ended up with 4 leftover boxes!

We had a great dinner trying a cuisine that was new to us. The restaurant was very busy, but we were seated right away. The menu warns that the dishes arrive randomly as they come out of the kitchen, which is what happened—one entree arrived before our drinks. Because sharing is encouraged, it’s not a problem. We loved the Nasi Lemak, “Malaysia’s National Dish” & the Kerabu Mangga salad (described as Funky.) The portions of all of the dishes were large!

I am thinking that I have shared words about Kedai in the past, good words I am sure, and it only continues to get better! Each meal form there makes it harder to believe that it could possibly get any better!!! Tonight while standing at the window waiting to order they posted on FB that tonight they had TAU YEW BAK - pork belly cooked in soy, stewed egg, tofu, yu choy, jasmine rice. We ordered it, ate it, we savored it, we LOVED it!!! Perfect with a nice cold stout! Lamb roti was spot on, the curry with just enough bite. If you venture here,be sure to get the roasted peanuts with crispy anchovy, kaffir lime leaf and chili.......we usually get severals so we have them "on call" for later! Kedai Makan is one of the sweetest treasures in Seattle!

Hip and attractive restaurant. Good food. Malaysian -fusion. Attentive and friendly service. Fairly priced.

I was really looking forward to this evenings dinner and was not disappointed. The table shared a couple of appetizers, the Fried Shrimp Chips with sweet chili mayo and the Fried Spicy Frog Legs served on top of a mix of soy, peanut, roasted chili, fried shallot, cilantro, vinegar, green onion and cucumber. Both were delicious. For my main, I had the Kari Kapitan, chicken fried in spices served in a curry of rempah, coconut milk, belacan, and other spices, server with acar awak, and fragrant jasmine rice. The heat was perfect on the curry and the acar away made up of pickled veggies was a refreshing and flavorful side dish along with the rice. The next time I am in Seattle, I will drop by for another visit.

Delicious food, drinks and fun atmosphere. Also, love the decor. Try the fried rice with lamb and the curry rice noodles with tofu, Jean-Claude Pandan drink, and finish off with The Mother shot. Gluten free friendly!

We thought this was going to be a fusion joint, given the patrons and the chefs (yes, we wrongly judged the book by its cover), but were surprised by how authentic the dishes were. And unlike other ethnic joints, this one bravely uses the spice in the right portion. Having made numerous trips to Penang in the past, this joint really brought those food memories back to life.

There's a long line when we got there and they told us the wait was probably for half an hour unless we wanted to sit at the bar which we did. Better because they were really busy and the bartender basically took our order and what an excellent service. We had roti jala as appetizer (the sauce was really good, a bit on the spicy side but it's not too spicy), Chili Pan Mee (noodle) and Malaysian Style Nasi Biryani Ayam (rice dishes with fried chicken and veggies). All of them were very good. If you cannot eat spicy food at all, perhaps you can ask them to make everything really mild.

I went here with a friend who lives in the area and was so glad she recommended it! The food and drinks are both unique and full of flavor - some of the most interesting flavor combinations I’ve ever tried (definitely in a good way!). The restaurant is comfortable and well decorated, and feels very cozy and inviting. It is a small place so I’d recommend going early to get a table, especially for more than 2 people. Overall, a really good experience! Highly recommend the nasi biryani ayam too.

Excellent Malaysian food and service! Everything made to order and everything on the menu is fabulous! Best to get there early though as they do not take reservations and it gets crowded, even on weekdays!

Without qualification (other than the difficulty finding parking), this restaurant is one we would want to return to often. The service was excellent and the food was even better.

Got a take-out from there for dinner with friends and loved it. Definitely recommend trying Roti Babi (which is a pork and mushroom w/ spices stuffed bread) and Roti Jala with Dhal. The coconut shake goes really well with the food :)

Small little place, no reservations. Go early. I knew nothing about Malaysian food. I had met the chef at a dinner where he was the guest chef. His love of food and ingredients told I had to go to his restaurant. The food is all about FLAVORS! No brain burning heat. No spices to knock you off the stool. Just real food with real flavor. This was a real treat and glad I finally made it.

We are always on the hunt for good southeast Asian restaurants, and surprisingly, Kedai Makan eluded our radar until now. After trying many of these restaurants in places like LA, San Fran, BC, I can say that Seattles restaurants in this category top the list. I would judge the food here authentic, based on the 4 items we tried. In several of the other southeast Asian restaurants we have tried we have found that recipes have been modified for whatever reasons (difficulty obtaining original ingredients, local tastes, etc), and these were places owned and cooked by people from the region. At Kedai Makan it would seem that an effort has been made to remain true to the flavors or Malaysia. The place was full when we visited on a Sat nite, and we had to wait about half an hour, the texting notification of table ready was appreciated. Parking is tricky, mainly the luck of the draw, on urban streets. We will return.

Kedai Makan is tucked away in an unassuming brick building on Bellevue Avenue. They started out as a small walk-up just around the block and are so popular that they now have a full restaurant with about 30 seats & a bar. If you are not familiar with Malaysian food - it's a great melting pot of many Asian cultures. Be aware that many things are SPICY - the staff is good about pointing it out. On our last visit I tried the Fried Frog Legs - they were battered and fried and covered in chiles - hot and delicious. My favourite things on the menu are the Dal (lentil soup), Roti, Curry Noodles and Nasi Goreng (fried rice). They've also added Vietnamese Banh Xeo (Saigon Crepe) - another knock out dish. My teens LOVE it here. It's beautiful and full of energy. They will try anything here because the food is so good. A fantastic culinary adventure - with reasonable prices to boot!

In Seattle for the first time and in our first hour took a walk to find...wait for it...Malaysian take-out. An auspicious start to our fifteen day odyssey of the Pacific Northwest! Knowing only that Malaysia is an ethnic crossroads of several countries whose cuisines I worship, I relied on the smells emanating from the take-out window. The girl taking our order was so friendly and so genuine that I wanted to ask her about all things Seattle. We settled on an superb roti and dahl appetizer, then enjoyed the heck out of two "goreng", or fried rice, dishes of tofu and chicken. If you like it spicy, be sure and make it clear. Fresh ingredients prepared with an understanding of spice blending. So glad my wife ordered a rare dessert: bubur hitam, a "black" rice pudding with longan berries and coconut. Oh my. You can also appreciate that this is the kind of place at the heart of a neighborhood resurgence. No wonder! If we ever go back to Seattle we will start with a return trip for the place that anchored our PNW experience.

I had dinner at Kedai Makan with an old friend and was blown away! We shared the Roti Jala starter which was fantastic! I chose the Mushroom Pan Mee as my entree and finished the whole thing, it was marvelous. As other reviews stated we did have to wait about 30 min but it was well worth it!!

My Husband and I were always intrigued by the smell of the food and the line-up of customers whenever we pass by Kedai Makan, so today we decided to try them :) . It's a small take out place. There are plastic chairs outside the store for sitting while you wait for your order or just sit down there and chow when you get your food. Prices are inexpensive but the flavors of the food are rich. We ordered the Murtabak ( Malaysian roti filled with lamb, spices, mint w/ spicy dhal curry for dipping, pickled red onion ) this is the Husband's favorite. He also had the Nasi Ayam (Roasted bone in chicken, jasmine rice cooked in chicken stock, cucumber, cilantro, chili lime sambal, soy, ginger, side of pandan chicken broth ), he said good but still like Murtabak better. I had the Nasi Goreng (Malaysian fried rice, kecap manis, tofu, sprouts, chili, runny egg, cucumber) and it was heavenly delicious, full of flavor! Also had the Tauhu Sumbat (crisp and firm roasted tofu, spicy and sweet chili sauce, cucumber cilantro, sprouts, sesame) which is more like a salad. We'd definitely go back and try the rest of their menu. The lady on cash was very friendly, we like her.

This place is literally a hole in the wall but the food is amazing!!! Take it to go, or eat on small plastic stools on the sidewalk...either way, you will be daydreaming the next day about the next time you can visit! Try the Nasi Goreng!

This was our first time eating Malaysian cuisine and it did not disappoint. I had the large wheat noodles with brisket. It had that perfect blend of sweet, sour and spice that I hear so many TV chefs describe when eating a great noodle dish. The staff was attentive and very friendly and another highlight was getting to try a Laotian beer. The beer itself was too sweet, but I love trying new beers so still consider it a win. If you visit Seattle, you have to eat here. The food is truly amazing and you almost feel like you stole it because the prices are so reasonable.

I was about to give up on the wait. I went to Elliott Bay Bookstore and enjoyed browsing, but then I came back and waited and was about at the end of my patience, and then I was summoned. Oh, and it was glorious. Had belacan beef bee hoon, so beef over bee hoon noodles in a glorious rendang sauce. Was filling, and reminded me of great travels in Malaysia.

I used to think the Malaysian restaurant around Queensway in London was the bees knees but Kedai Makan takes the prize. Long wait for our table but outrageously wonderful. The roti jala (net roti) seemed more like noodles than roti as we know it from Indian cuisine and was amazing, with a great lamb curry. The fried spicy frogs lets were some of the plumpest my wife and I have ever enjoyed (kind of reminded me of Dominica's now nearly extinct "mountain chicken") in a truly great sauce, the nasi ayam goreng brempah, spicy fried chicken, was just great as were the spicy black pepper ribs. Bottom line: next time we get to Seattle we'll make a beeline here. Just wonderful.

We feel very lucky to live only a handful of blocks away from Kedai Makan. The food is so delicious. You walk by the restaurant and the smells jump start your cravings for the yummy food. We especially love the Lentil Roti and their Nasi Goreng Kedai. Though, we have never been disappointed with any of their dishes. Portions are pretty big and can be split among a couple people. They don't take reservations and, from what I understand, you can't call in a pick-up order. But it's worth the walk and/or the wait (if eating at the restaurant). Yum!

I visited this place with my husband at around 7pm and we left since the waiting time was 2 hours; we found out the place opens at 5, but people start getting in line since 4:30 and there are no reservations. So... we returned the next day at 4:20 and we were second in line. The restaurant opened at 5pm sharp. We had fried chicken with curry and lamb with rice. We have never been in Malaysia, si we don’t know if flavors are original, all I can say is that both our dishes were delicious! noodles also looked great but we didnt try them. The one thing I didnt like much is that music was really loud.

I hear there can be a bit of a wait, but we went pretty late on a Saturday and got in right away. The food was delicious, and they were able to easily accommodate a gluten free diet. I loved the interesting flavor and generous portion of nasi goreng kambing, and we also got a dish with a whole mackerel that was also delicious. Don't pass up on the bubur hitam dessert, which is a black rice pudding made with coconut milk. We loved our meal and can't wait to come back.

Line outside but we found a spot at the bar for 2 immediately. Food was delicious and full of interesting spices. My husband live in Malaysia for a year and was quite impressed with the food.

I've eaten lots of Malaysian food, and this grub is on point. Yes you're paying more, but the quality and quantity are really good. I went here once and then went back again when I had something to celebrate.

Promising cuisine, but the brief menu — after relocating to 15th and Pine — sort of massively underwhelmed. Malay peanuts probably our favorite. Hard to find vegetables on menu. ROTI BABI was stuffed bread with pork, thin on promised shiitake mushrooms. NASI GORENG KUNYIT ordered with four prawns was fine fried rice dish, with nice fish flavor — again we’d hoped for a few more vegetables. Dessert was BUBUR BITAM — a too-large bowl of heavy black rice pudding. My stomach seized up with intense grain-flavor. The staff is obviously sill figuring out how to work together. Lots of puzzled looks at the bar when server tried to decipher —— what drink was going to which table? Manager very organized but trying to to everything but serving? Kitchen staff was in good spirits—food all arrived quickly even with place 95 percent full.

We've had a lot of Indian and southern Asian cuisine before, but never Malaysian specially. Everything was fantastic. We had the roti babi, kaya toast, and nasi biriyani. Everything was fantastic. Go at happy hour for some good deals!

The old 'hole in the wall' was good but now they have moved around the corner to 1802 Belleview the quality has rocketed. The ambience in the new digs is welcoming, the staff are informative, but it's all about the food in this place. I'm a big fan of spicy food and this place exploded my taste buds as much as curries in West London, Goa or Mumbai. Can't wait to go back on my next visit to Seattle.

Best Staff. Best Food. My fave was a plate of the homemade noodles, but anything else on the menu is superb here.

Dishes are not quite the same but excellent in their own right. Pair the rice pudding with the coconut ice cream for a wonderful treat. Fried rice with sausage was very good. Were excited to see the ribs not the same and reduced portion. Service was excellent. Kudos to our server Jeff.

I definitely recommend either going right at opening or you’ll be waiting. We arrived right at 5 and we were the last to get a table .. I read in other reviews that you can put yourself on the wait list via app, so that may be an option for you. Small location but packed with flavour! Wow .. the dishes were excellent. We shared the roti jala (net bread) with the lentil curry, the chilli pan mee and Nasi goreng Kedai .. YUM! Definitely will be going back again.

They have just moved from their old / take out location to a new, comfortable sit-down location. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance, excellent service, and wonderful food. The three of us ordered different and shared. Great fun!

this restaurant doesn't take reservations, so get there early. order multiple entrees and sample across the menu (which changes a lot). many order take-out, and taking left overs home will give you an encore of wonderful tastes.

My brother-in-law lives in Seattle and INSISTED that we ate here as he loves the place. First of all, the place is SMALL and CROWDED. One good thing is that you can call in your party and put your name on the list. They will give you a time approximation (they were ½ hour off for us) and then they will text you when your table is ready. You have a few minutes to get there before they give your table up to the next person on the list. This system worked out well for us as we just hung out at a nearby Starbucks until our table was ready. The inside of the restaurant is CROWDED. The entrance to the restaurant is TINY and it was packed. Reminded me of a NYC subway during rush hour. I had to smash myself against a wall. The server was great. Was very friendly and quick to help. Don’t have his name though. Food was pretty good too. We tried a bunch of different things and I will try my best to recall them: Malay Style Roasted Peanuts- I really liked these and ate a bunch of it. Roti babi- an interesting bread. It’s good, but different. It’s stringy. That’s the best way I can describe it, and the sauce was good. Mushroom pan mee- Really good. Kind of like Pad Thai. Claypot Bo Kho- This was my favorite dish. It reminded me of Mexican mole sauce. Reallly good but I was the only one that this was their first choice. Vegetable Biyrani- This was my 2nd favorite item Nasi Goreng Kabing- To me, this was OK but it was the favorite item of the other 3 people on the table. To ME it just tasted like someone chopped up weird tasting beef (found out later it was lamb, and I don’t like lamb texture) and mixed it in rice. That’s just me, but everyone else really liked it. #Cocolife- 2 out of 3 people on our table liked this. I was the one that did not. I drank it though so it wasn’t inedible. I will say that it is strong and pretty sour. The food at Kedai Makan was pretty good and the service was great. Make sure to call in your “reservation” ahead of time. Trust me.

We had enough of pizzas, sandwiches and decided to search for Asian fare This place was so packed it was 1 hour wait but worth while We had nasi lemak - coconut rice with fried anchovies, 3 big pieces of fried chicken, egg and sambal. Portions were so huge we struggled to finish even 50% We also had fried rice with bean curd and beansprouts Many ordered noodles and pork ribs but we couldn't stuff ourselves anymore The bill was $20 per head Worth a visit - highly recommended , excellent value

Had the Murtabak which was delicious and inexpensive. I could be at a hawker's corner in Singapore enjoying this snack. Lady at the counter was friendly. Quick service. Definitely recommend it.

Arrived at opening time in the evening so had no wait. Enjoyed a delicious meal, many authentic flavours which brought back many happy memories of time spent in Malaysia.

Visiting Seattle from London and lucky enough to have a relative living in Seattle who knew about this gem of a restaurant. Great atmosphere, excellent service, small menu (always a good sign), delicious food. This is one satisfied customer.

Lovely selection of Malaysian dishes - good spice and great flavor. The frog legs are our favorites.

I was so excited to find Kedai Makan. Originally from Singapore, I grew up with Malaysian cuisine. Living here, it is so hard to find food of my childhood. I ordered Nasi Lemak with tofu and chickpea curry, Laksa Lemak, and a Nasi Goreng. I asked that all be vegetarian. The food was good but I felt like there could have been a lot more Malaysian flavors. My biggest disappointment was the Nasi Lemak rice; the coconut flavor is not as strong as I would have liked. The laksa is decent but I wish they would have made the coconut milk soup instead of the curry soup. I guess I need to visit Singapore to get the authentic flavors I remember.

Absolutely great! Cocktails were good. The Roti Jala was absolutely awesome with perfect Daal. The noodles was amazing. This definitely has become a go-to place in Seattle for me.

Being seated is awkward and the menu isn't very long but the food is delicious and they help you learn how to eat what you order. I don't remember the name of the dish but the one with mushrooms was on my mind for several days.

This may have served more authentic Malaysian food when it was just a takeout kitchen in the past, but since it moved to a sit down restaurant in 2016, this is best described as another Capitol Hill watering hole with interesting bites. The menu is 2 pages. One page is a rather limited menu. The second page is all drinks. The interior is all concrete, so when you combine this with the hip young crowd and belting music, it is VERY LOUD. Not a place for a couple with dinner conversation plans. If you have even a tahil of Malaysian heritage and are looking for some comfort food, this is not the place. If you have touristed Malaysia and are looking to evoke some fond memories, then this place might assuage.
Kedai Makan in Capitol Hill
While we were in Seattle we were taken to Kedai Makan, 1802 Bellevue Avenue, in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. We liked it so much we went twice. It was definitely worth the wait. If you love fried chicken then the Malaysian style Nasi Biryani Ayam is an absolute must. It comes resting on a bed of spiced (not spicy) basmati rice. We also had the Malaysian style fried rice, Nasi Goreng Kedai, and the Spicy Pork Ribs Kedai. They were delicious, and since we had a kitchenette in our hotel room we ate the warmed up leftovers the next day and it was even better. Price wise is wasn't bad I think it was pretty reasonable. The locals will regret me saying this but if you are visiting Seattle you have to go there.
