We went for dinner as the menu intrigued us. Lo and behold the whisky selection from Ireland and Scotland is to die for. We have yet to have seen such a selection! No whisky snobbery either. Just a good place to have a wee dram and good food.

Kells is a great place to visit and I love the live music and the possibility to watch sports events but where you normally expect that the food in a bar is average I was surprised by the great food. I tried the lamb while my colleague tried the salmon and both of us liked it very much. Go for a drink to Kells but certainly try the food as well one night!

We stopped in to watch the Seahawks game and have some lunch. There were several different lunch items ordered in addition to the Shepards pie I tried. The Shepards pie was fabulous and it came with a delicious cup of soup. All of the food was great and our service was pretty good even though he was the only server working. It's a great place to watch a game, they have a really large screen that you can see from pretty much anywhere in the bar. We will return.

Friendly service, with very accommodating staff. Very pleasant sitting on the terrace outside on a nice summer day. The hamburger was delicious, cooked perfectly, and juicy with very soft buns. Good choices of beer on tap. Food comes from local family farms. Fries were crispy and very tasty.

We were staying over after an Alaskan Cruise. We went to Pike's Market on a Sunday (super busy as expected) & wanted to sit, have a cold one and a sandwich. We were walking up the street when we came across the Kell's sign & it being just a turn down the street. We were both glad we did! We each had a chowder & a corned beef sandwich. Both soup & sandwich were Very Good! We too, had that Cold One to top it off! I would recommend this restaurant if you are in that area.

We enjoyed the piping hot Shepherd's Pie and Roast Beef Pasty. Beautiful day for a casual dinner outside.

I came to Kells on my own to watch the World Cup whist my family went shopping. The staff were incredibly kind, I unfortunately didn't catch the name of the gentleman serving me (with glasses) but I believe he was the manager, he was very lovely and the lady serving me was also fantastic. The atmosphere for the football was great, lots of screens. Great place to pop in to watch some sports. Thanks for having me

Although it looks a little dingy at first this place is actually cosy and welcoming. We sampled familiar food (cottage pie, potato soup and a pasty) which was all nice. The service was fine (a little rushed as they were busy) and it was reasonably priced.

The location: Post Alley, Pike Place Market could not get better. The atmosphere is authentic. The owners, the McAleese family are the best especially the matriarch Ethna. The Irish are not always known for their cuisine but the food here is excellent. When you are tired of the crowd of the Market, do your self a favor and slip into Kell's for a pint and relax. A real Irish treat! Take it from a local who eats there every couple of weeks.

The thing about American “Irish pubs” is that they tend (in some instances) to “out Irish” the originals! Apparently, however, this Seattle version enjoys Irish/American ownership and to that extent affords a nice place, amid a very touristy area, to sit down and enjoy a drink. The bar food, was well, bar food; but the service was top notch friendly. If you’re staying nearby stop over.

We found this place after looking for well over an hour for somewhere that our group of 6 wanted to go to. We went on a Saturday night and had been looking for a restaurant that appealed to everyone. We had 2 kids, so we needed something they would like and 2 other people who are somewhat picky. This place is a little hard to find since it's in the alley, but worth looking for it. Two people in our group had their Kells IPA and said it was very good. Our son had Shepard's Pie for the first time and loved it. Myself, I had roasted chicken served with apple, tomato, mushroom and bacon sauce which was excellent! Our friends had a couple of pasties and a couple people had clam chowder, which was all good as well.

Its been many years since i was in Kells and have had many great times in the bar over the years but i do not get to the area as much and parking can be hard to find. But it was good to stop by and have a glass of Harp beer.

An outside board advertising a salmon and brie sandwich was impossible to pass by. The facility is on the main street of the Pikes Market in downtown Seattle. Many places to see, but this one seemed to be the most appealing. I sat at the bar, which was like many older Irish pubs, and well appointed. The bartender suggested a great Irish craft beer, and his selection was great! The salmon and brie sandwich was presented on a soda bread plate, with some fresh veggies to accompany them. The sandwich was one of the best I have ever had. The salmon was not cooked even a little bit, and is the way I enjoy eating that fish. The brie was stupendous, and very flavorful. The bartender was courteous and engaging. All in all, I would definitely return for some more of their Irish menu offerings.

Came here for a quick drink and some food with friends. Could not believe the staffs behaviours towards customers. Every member of staff who reluctantly spoke to us could not have been less polite. It seemed to me they were understaffed and so understandably stressed but there was no reason for them to treat us like the customers were an afterthought and an inconvenience to them. At one point they literally shouted at my friend when she was looking for the restrooms!! The beer was decent and the food was as well. Just wouldn't come back because of the staff.

We always enjoy stopping at Kells, an inviting little pub just around the corner from Pike Place Market. Their menu has authentic options such as Steak & Kidney Pie, Corned Beef & Cabbage, and Irish Stew, and everyting tastes great. They always have something nice to wash it down too, such as interesting local beers, Guinness, or Smithwick's on tap, and they have a big whiskey selection. If we're there during the day and weather permits, we like to grab a table out on Post Alley. On a weekend evening or during a Seahawks game, expect a crowded party atmosphere.

Visited here with a friend on Memorial Day weekend. Not too busy and we sat outside on the patio. Couple of issues on the food - fish would have been better if it was beer battered and the shepherds pie needed more spices or maybe Guinness gravy. However, those were minor issues since the overall experience we excellent. I especially enjoyed their locally brewed own brand of beer. I asked for something resembling a Smithwicks and their ale was about as close as you could get. Well done on a pretty authentic Irish pub - music and all.

We happened upon Kells while on the way to Pikes Market, hidden away on the alley. Having been to Ireland, the food was authentic and a great selection of Irish whiskey! Service was nice and we were able to chat with the wonderful owner who showed us around her place and explained that this was the first morgue in Seattle!!! They have live Irish music almost every night and we recommend this Irish pub in Seattle!

Located on Post Alley just up from Pikes Market. It's a very authentic Irish Restaurant. The food, decor and ambiance are truly authentic.

I started in Buffalo and also lived in Philly for a few years, having said this I actually dislike Buffalo-Chicken cheesesteaks. Give me wings OR a steak...not a mediocre combo of the two :D Something to do with the ratio of sauces in this sandwich is always is off. However the chef at Kells, Pete makes an amazing Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak - I keep coming back for it. He also made great pierogies. New neighbor in town, and looking forward to more good food and drinks. -Kevin

Food was good restaurant was cold prices were kinda high for portion size seams like the location is more like a drinking hole then restaurant. Met the owner whom is from Ireland would return

I enjoyed a steak and kidney pie. I've never ordered a steak and kidney pie before, but I felt adventurous. It was good, as were the potato mash and gravy and vegetables on the side. It's a trendy place near Pike Place Market, so it's probably overpriced, but you know that when you go into it.

After an exhausting tour of Pike Place Market, we climbed up the hill a tiny bit and found Kells. After being seated promptly, our order was taken, and our food arrived soon after. I had the corned beef pasty (PASS-tea not PAYS-tea) and clam chowder. A lady (I would guess she's the owner) came over to talk to us and especially to our daughter. The attention was appreciated.

When traveling a female alone, it is a little hard to find a good dining place. I was staying near this bar, and decided to ask if they take To-Go order. The gentle man I talked referred me to a bartender. It was easy to order and wait time was not long. While I was waiting in a bar, a middle-aged female customer came in, to say hello. Seattle is still Seattle....some people are always friendly here, do not mind giving you a help.

Our party of 3 went for an early dinner on a Friday afternoon. The outdoor seating was full but we were quickly seated in a booth near the bar. The restaurant is a quieter reprieve from the madness of Pikes Place on a Friday afternoon. The Irish beers (Kell) they have on draft are quite good. The menu has most of the traditional Irish classics. We opted for the Shepherds Pie, Irish Stew and a pasty. Each was presented quickly and hot. The Shepherds Pie was good though could have used more seasoning. The Irish Stew had lots of carrots and potatoes and a nice sauce. The pasty was the standout though, with buttery flaky crust and plenty of filling. It's not Dublin, but a nice place to get a bite in Seattle!

The Bartender, possibly manage based on professionalism and knowledge, made the experience first rate. He was knowledgeable and warm. He gave us great service. The lagers are great, unusual in an age of IPA. Fresh bread, good soups and entrees. Live Irish music on Saturday evening. If I go back to Seattle, will definitely make a stop here.

Located near Pike's Public Market good spot to stop in for a cold beer or cider and get some pub grub. Traditional menu of Irish meals.

My brother and I stopped by here on Saturday night about 8pm. The place was fairly busy with people watching the Golden State, Oaklahoma City basketball game. We found a place at the bar and had the lovely company of an amazing Bartender. My brother and his family are at Seattle Children's with my niece undergoing therapy for Leukemia and this night out was just what he needed to try and brighten his spirit. The bartender woman was awesome at bantering with us while she made the drinks and we both had a great time. I've never been to this location, but have frequented the Portland spot multiple times, both of these are top notch bars to go to. They have an incredible Scotch selection, although very few Irish Whiskeys, which seems odd to me. But I will definitely be coming back here.

Drinks only - did not order food. Service good. We needed a resting spot in a long day on foot. The staff were attentive but left us alone once we had ordered.

We visited a couple of times. Nice to sit at the outside tables. Service was slow and the second time tables needed clearing. Perhaps they were short staffed. Served a decent pint of Guinness

Perhaps this is a recommended place to go at the Pike Place Market but I would surely not return. Our party lasted through one round. Not a good vibe when we walked in then the service was embarrassing for them, not the group of us who work in the industry. Thanks but no thanks to this not so shimmering gem of Seattle.

Alley .. we sat outside in the beautiful fall weather .. my Irish wife immediately noticed Irish soda bread and ordered some .. we got soda bread and brown bread .. she was disappointed the soda bread didn’t have raisins but brown bread was perfectly made and both were great .. ordered a sausage appetizer and a lamb appetizer both were cooked perfectly and the gravy .. just like her moms .. could have drank the bowl ... over all the food was perfectly cooked and service was good as well .. Kells own beers were tasty and cold .. we will go back for a taste of home

Not a fan of Irish bars when abroad but the American friends I was with wanted to visit. Service was friendly and there was a reasonable selection of beers. I had a local IPA which was tasty. Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. Be warned, they really go overboard on the Irishness!

Ok, it was a rare sunny Saturday afternoon in Seattle and although the restaurant wasn't completely full, they looked busy. On arrival, I stood 10min to wait to be seated, then told to seat myself even though this is usually not the case (and the there was a no sign saying so) plus there was a hostess nearby. I sat at one of the 5 or so open tables, it took 12min for anyone to even acknowledge me and she was the owner (very friendly lady). 10min to get a menu, asked 3 times if my order for a drink had been taken by hostess but it took another 10min for someone to take the drink order then finally deliver it with water but no tableware or bread. Asked again 2 more times if anyone had taken my lunch order, then once I finally ordered 15min and NO food, no bread, nothing! I finally asked my waitperson where my lunch was and he didn't know. I told them if the order was not in - to close out my check for the wine. That took another 10min and I had to get up and go the bar to pay Then to add insult to injury the waiter short-changed me. I wasn't the only disgruntled customer. Too bad because this used to be a favorite long-time place for good food and decent service. They really blew it for me and others and not sure I'll ever go back. 1hr and left hungry.

After *attempting* to navigate the craziness of Pike Place Market, we wandered into Kells. Our waiter looked a little chagrined to have to deal with our group of 8 at first, but he ended up being really great (that might have been because a Christmas in July Santa pub crawl came through...we were the least irritating there, I guess, haha!). Try the beef, corned beef, and veggie pasties, the baked brie, the Irish cheese plate, and the clam chowder. It's delicious!

We ate lunch at this establish which is tucked away on Post Alley while walking about Pikes Market. Service was quick, polite and courteous.

The Kells is a good place to stop for a pint, or even a meal, out of the bustle of Pike Place market. Located in an Alley a block back from the action it has both inside and limited outside seating. Service was good as was the people watching. It appears to be in the midst of expanding and looks like it will be a combination of three previous restaurants. Appetizers were fairly priced...we did not have a meal so can't comment on those. Worth looking for.

Passed this on a side road North of Pike Market. Good Irish pub and clam chowder was great. Instead of a Guiness, I had their substitute and it DID NOT disappoint. Bartender was friendly, customers seemed happy and it felt like an Irish Pub. Many Irish options on the menu at good price points.

Having discovered Kell's over 5 years ago, it has been a must to on our list every time we go to Seattle! First of all, by far the best scotch list I have ever seen! The bartenders, this trip, Nestor and Brendan, were helpful with making selections and just fun to hang out with. The Irish cake dessert is delicious and the music and atmosphere make it a fun, celebratory place. And the icing on the cake is that it is rumored to be haunted!! FYI, I recommend the Caol Ila :)

Found this place by accident after ducking up a back alley to get away from the Pike Place market crowds. We only stopped for a drink but when we saw the menu we decided to stay for snacks when we saw the sausage roll and we werent dissappointed, they were really good! definately worth seeking out this place.

This is a very nice place hidden away on Post Alley to sit and have a beer on the patio. It is very reasonably priced, unlike other places in the Pike's Market area, and it was the closest decent place to our hotel, Inn at the Market, which incidentally does not have a bar!!!

Kells is an Irish bar and it’s located in Post Alley. I’m assuming Kells is after the Book of Kells but could be wrong. Not of lot of original Irish evident in the bar!

In Seattle to celebrate our daughter's 30th birthday, with the help of our niece we chose Kells for the surprise gathering of family and friends, a group of 25! My niece did the legwork and made arrangements with Karen the owner for our group. As we assembled, we were taken care of by Sharra, the most professional server I've ever encountered in this type of Pub environment. After one drink, she knew what you were having for the balance of the night, amazing! The pub food was great and for those for whom it didn't work, they came quickly with alternatives. Over the three hours we visited, we were served perfectly and had a great time!

Decent food / great screens for game and a nice vibe . The location is pretty cool . I give it 3 stars as others have commented there is an issue with service . They walk past you without much engagement/ you have to call them or raise your hand to get help . I think this place would be much better with better service.

Enjoyed some hot toddies while waiting for a nearby restaurant. Typical pub atmosphere, good table service and bar servers.

Awful experience! After an awesome meal nearby, we decided to give this one a try, for post-dinner drinks. The fact that they had a band playing Irish (& Scottish) music, with traditional dancers made it even more interesting. My girlfriend managed an Irish pub in Cali for years, so she was feeling right at home! Grabbed a table fairly close to stage and enjoyed the music. Young female server comes over. Behaves weirdly, non-attentive, slurry speech and clearly not sober. Takes our orders (two whiskeys, one beer and two Baileys coffee) and walks off. No notes or anything, which is fine, if you're an experiences waiter/waitress... Now, is when it get's quite interesting... She leaves the bar with a few drinks and sits down at the table next to us, obviously familiar with the customers sitting there already. Chats with them for a little while, then walks over to our table, with our drinks! She actually sat down and took a break on her way over to serve us... The drinks she brings over are 50% correct - The beer is what we ordered, the glass of wine is not... She also informs us that they don't have coffee so there will be no Coffee Baileys! My girlfriend goes over to speak to a manager/senior waiter who offers to pick up the tab as it is not exactly going to plan... After a while, the waitress also brings the two whiskeys over. At this point we are done with the establishment and decide to leave. My girlfriend approaches the waitress, by the bar, and tells her we are leaving. She asks my girlfriend if she can describe what we just had "as she had a lot of tabs open". My girlfriend points out to her that she has four tabs open, which should be possible to deal with, and that we had placed our order approximately ten minutes earlier. The waitress then uses elimination to find out which tab that were ours, so she could comp it. On our way out, we approach the owner, who promises that he will "deal with it". Seeing the other reviews here and on Yelp, I am not sure anyone cares... Needless to say, we won't be back...

My friend and I were looking for a late Saturday night fun and found this treasure. Very few nice places are open in Seattle post 11 PM and this one is the best. Its an AWESOME place. Though it was overflowing with people as someone was celebrating their wedding, the place has a soul and is very inviting. Most exciting was the live band...just 2 people band is good enough to make the entire dance floor dance and it was my kind of music of 80s, country, pop!! Techno 7 hip hop lovers won't appreciate this. Drinks were good, the waitress were prompt and nice. Looking for my next visit here when I am in Seattle again!!

We visited with a few relatives from Germany, Had lunch after strolling Pike Street Market. Good Irish food reasonably priced, no idea where the $$$ came from.

My husband and I stopped here last night after dinner at the Pink Door for a cocktail. They had live music playing and I forgot how much I liked this place. They have a massive selection of scotch and whiskey along with great beer options. There were only 2 tequila options, but that's not too surprising for an Irish Pub. I haven't eaten there yet.

I came here to see the haunted bar. However, we did have lunch here. It was ok; nothing to write about. There were 2 guys at the bar, plus my friend and myself. There was no "atmosphere" and the lady working the place was down right un-friendly, bordering on rude. Go for the novelty, if you must.

Kells Irish Restaurant is full of ghosts, I think they hang around for the fun and great drink selection.

This place has a lot of charm and great food. My husband said the corned beef here was the best he's ever tasted! Everything was delicious and fresh, and the service was great. It's a little hard to find, down an alley very close to Pike Place, but we were so glad we found it!

I bet this placed has changed owners. The food was not as good as I remember. The fish was frozen and not fresh. It’s Seattle! Got rid of all the homemade dressings. Mushy peas were cold and not mushy peas. Clearly have no idea how to make it! My sausages were dried out not at all like you get in Ireland. My son had the chicken pasta fish that was swimming in butter, he just could finish it. Even our waiter got our order wrong on 2 dishes. Won’t be coming back. Sad really!😢

Service was okay but nothing special or memorable. Their own beer was decent. The location is at or near pikes market. The area had many people wandering about. This was located in an alley on the northwest end.

We found the food tasted ok, but bit over priced for what we got. Crab sandwich should be called crab crustini. It is advertised as an open faced sandwich but it's crab served on two crustini pieces with a small slice of tomato on each piece and melted cheddar cheese. Tasted ok but quite greasy and not worth $14. Came with very small 'cup' of soup (about half an actual measured cup). You can have fries or salad but that's an extra $3! Service was good, but the food and prices would not bring us back.

My Irish buddy and I found the experience just OK. Food OK. service OK....we will probably go back for a third try.

Possibly it’s the story behind Kells that draw folks in, but better pubs in Seattle for sure. They have their own beers which are on the lower end of craft beer around Seattle as well other cities we have visited. Not saying “don’t go” just other options around this city.

OMG we went back for more sausage rolls and good whiskey each day of our stay. Appy hour was great, the food was awesome, loved everything we tried......did i mention the sausage rolls?

I just grabbed a beer here. Its a true Irish pub. If you are looking for that...you have arrived. Looked like a decent menu. Have local and other brews. The local brew was excellent and the waitress was friendly.

Walking down Post Alley there are a couple of restaurants, one being Kells Irish Restaurant. Isn't it everybody missions to find the Irish Pub in every town you visit? It's mine. The food was very good. The soda bread was even better! Most soda bread I've tried is dried out or bland. The soda bread here was so soft and amazing! Loved it! The service was awesome! We spoke to the cutest Irish lady there that served us the soda bread. It's a great experience and a beautiful pub. Eat lunch or dinner while visiting Pike Place Market. It's just a few steps away.

My husband and I stopped in on a whim while walking through Pike Market and decided to grab a beer and a snack. We ended up with a cheese plate and a coupe of pints. The service was attentive and the food and beer were perfect after a long day of sightseeing and tired feet. Great, fun location!

I did like this place, as close as you can get to a non-American pub. The beer was good, the food was ok, my veg tasted a bit bleachy. The poor lass behind the bar was run off her feet, this resulted in the service being questionable. Not her fault at all.

Kells is one of the great places to stop in to and grab a drink. On this most recent trip we stopped in on two separate occasions and the service was pretty slow but they do have good food and drink selections and the history of the building is amazing.

Stopped here for drinks and appetizers. Service was exceptional. The Kells Stout was a good choice. They had live music later on in the night.

This is a really great Irish Pub, and is probably the busiest one during St. Patrick's Day, great location, and great options inside.

Have a great meal with friendly staff. I was traveling by myself and so sat at the bar, the bar tender Roy was very knowledgeable about Seattle and was willing to impart that knowledge on the best place for breakfast and two things you cannot miss in Seattle.

Having spent a long, hot day walking around Seattle, we found Kells Irish Pub & Restaurant. We wnt in for a drink & were overjoyed to find that our favourite cider was on draft & after a couple of pints we wnt on our way refreshed & considerably happier! We returned the following night for a meal & another couple of pints. The welcome we received was excellent and the pub grub menu was just what we anted. The food was really excellent, tasty & filling. To top our great experience, we had been talking to the lovely landlady & her mother when they offered to make us a cup of tea!! This may not sound much to any Americans reading this but in the coffee capital a good cup of Irish Tea ( not quite Yorkshire but close enough!) tasted like nectar from the gods. I would thoroughly recommend Kells for both drinking & eating.

We found Kells on our way back to our hotel from the Seattle Aquarium. Many visitors never venture down Post Alley, leaving Kells undiscovered. Fortunately, we wandered that way and were drawn in by the warmth of the atmosphere and the reasonable prices. Drinks were excellent and the food was gourmet (not pub) quality. Potato soup was well seasoned, the beef pasty was tender and tasty, and the crab cakes were delicious. A note for those from the East Coast: while the crab cakes are not Maryland style, there is ample crab meat and the seasoning is superb. An excellent lunch at a great price.

Spending the day touring around Pike Market and the waterfront, we came here for a drink outside on the patio. We thought the service was great. The earlier reviews said otherwise but for us, the guy and older lady were very attentive. It is a very relaxing a quiet place. We are going back for the night to hear the music.

I keep being draw back to Kells every time I visit Seattle; maybe it's the Irish in me but it is just a friendly place to be. I will be totally honest, the food isn't brilliant but it's fresh, tasty, heartwarming and very reasonably priced. Don't expect Michelin stars just good standard fare. The bar is simple and welcoming; the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is something very special about Kells and I would recommend everyone stop by and see for themselves.

Called a couple days ahead to seat our large party. When it was our turn to be seated the table wasn't ready. The server was not the friendliest guy and acted like we were putting him out. The corned beef was some of the best I've ever had. Ever. The accompaniments left something to be desired. Cabbage was cool to the touch and the potatoes tasted too much like powder or freeze dried or something. Two of the pasties were overcooked and dry. Took forever to get refills and two of the meals were "forgotten" so they were brought out about 10 minutes after everyone else was done.

Nice place to experience what it might be like to be in a pub in Ireland! Fun atmosphere and good food and beer.

This is a fantastic spot to meet up with friends and family. Great ambience, lovely looking long bar and great service. Will definitely be back.

Very near Pike Place Market. Absolutely delicious comfort food and great options on tap. (Very cider-drinker friendly, too.) At both lunch and dinner (in the middle of happy hour), I felt very comfortable there as a solo woman traveler. Would have been even better with friends.

Love the atmosphere and the food was great! The service really needs help as waitress forgot every part of our order at every step of the way. But, food, atmosphere, location all were fine.

From the butter to the beef pasty's this place has the most authentic Irish beer and food that I've seen in the US. As my wife just returned from Ireland she was jonesing for a real Irish coffee and no one makes them in Irish tradition that we've been able to find. Brown sugar and half whipped whole cream all the way, with of course a fine Irish whiskey or choose your own from the selection. Irish stew was also fantastic and only thing we couldn't find was the Guiness Irish Stew. Hopefully that will appear on the menu sometime! Great casual atmosphere to relax or watch a game. And did I mention the butter? :-) Nothing like good English butter with that high fat content. Yummy.

Terrific bar. The staff really knows their stuff. Had the Kells Stout and it was very good. Plus they have all the stand bys.

We came here for dinner as it was a short walk from Benaroya. We like lamb, so the Irish stew looked good. The meat in the stew tasted like roast beef, not lamb. The list of beer available was uninspiring. Overall it was a big meh. We'll try some place else next time.

Nice atmosphere off the main drag. Good draft beer selection. I recommend the Kells stout. I had the corned beef sandwich, which was very good, but not a lot of meat. My wife had a salad and the others in our party got the dungeness crab sandwich with salad and fries. I would go back.

We had lunch at Kells after visiting Pikes Place. It was my favorite place we are during our week vacation! I had the seafood pasty w the chowder and a Manny's beer....sooooo good! Our group also has the Danny's special and the sausage log...all of it was great! Will definitely go back!!!

We slipped into Kells on a busy Sunday visit to Pikes Place Market and were happy we did. No lines and we were able to slip right into a booth. My daughter and I had a chicken and vegetable pasty, which were excellent. Husband enjoyed his BLT and clam chowder, and my son thought his crab sandwich and chowder were great. Highly recommended.

We are long time fans of Kells in downtown Portland and stop in every time we are in town so while I was in Seattle I decided to check this location out as well. It was tricker to locate and is smaller and more intimate than the downtown portland location but the food is still the same, which is great! I had the shepard's pie and an old fashioned to wash it down, both were very delicious, I will be back on my next trip through downtown seattle.

They had live music, all the traditional Irish brews and whiskeys and nice place to toss a few back. It was a slow crowd night but it was perfect for us.

We stopped in to Kells because it was recommended. We stopped for lunch and had corned beef and cabbage and it was very good. I wish I could come back for the evening because it looks like it could be a great time.

Right below our B&B (Pensione Nichols) the area around Pike Place Market is very steep we found after exhausting walk through the market this lovely Pub. It is very deceiving when looking in from the outside as it appears small. Having gone inside you have left the good USA and find yourself in Ireland as this place is cavernous. The food is excellent, so is the beer and the prices are fair. We had a chance to chat with the owner (she is 78 and a lovely lady who has a lot of memories). Make it a point to enjoy the place and the food and the beer, we went back there three times.

First off, the food is absolutely outstanding! Then comes the service. Our server was absolutely one of the most personable people I have ever met. She engaged in conversation and that made our night that much better! Definitely will be back!

I love Post Alley, so when I needed a place to have supper with my 10 year old son tonight, I immediately thought of Kells. We seated ourselves immediately, and a server came over to take our drink orders within 1 minute. The bartender made me a delicious dirty martini, and my son and I shared the mussels. They were pretty good....not wonderful, but pretty good. I had the shepherd's pie which I really enjoyed. My son had the beef pasty, and he enjoyed it. I tried it too, and I thought it was fantastic. Our server was very personable and attentive. The prices were quite reasonable....a martini, mussels, and two entrees for about $55. I'll definitely be back if I need a stick-to-your-ribs meal in a cozy location.

I almost gave it two stars but I could not honestly remember anything good about it. Poor service, a poor menu and poor food quality. We usually love visiting Irish pubs but this is not one I would ever recommend anyone wasting their time visiting.

This is one of your quintessential restaurants of the old school and old world variety! The dining room has its own bar which is adjacent to the Pub (next door) I was on a double date with my wife and great friends and we thoroughly enjoyed the shepherd's pie, steak and kidney entrees (did I say old school?) Washing them down with scotch whiskies was great along with a wonderful black and tan ale! The dark wood ambiance, and friendly service is very much appreciated! Slainte mhaith!!

Ate there as soon as we arrived in Seattle. Hadn't heard of it but saw it on one of the tourist maps we found. We weren't disappointed. Interesting location in an alley just above the Pike Place Market. Expect very expensive parking and warnings to not leave your valuables in your car. The menu was very good with Irish favorites. Their craft brews, brewed in their Portland brewery were very good. The server was very good and regularly checked up on us. The only odd thing was the bathroom. It was to the back of the pub, through a hallway, into another restaurant (Mexican) and to the back. I felt like I was getting a free 'underground Seattle' self-guided tour. Highly recommend.

My husband and I always make it a point to stop by Kell's Irish restaurant when we are in Seattle. The atmosphere, Guinness and food remind us of our trip to Ireland. Warm atmosphere, friendly and attentive service. It might be a little difficult to find because the entrance is down in the alley way, but definitely worth the effort.

We always love visiting Irish bars/restaurants wherever we are in the world, but this was the most disappointing we have ever visited. No atmosphere, no buzz at all, and frankly hopeless service from people who did not seem interested. Very basic food, which is fine, but poorly prepared and presented, very stodgy, from a very limited menu. Took our server 25 minutes to tell me the Pale Ale I ordered was unavailable. Two mistakes on a very simple bill. Really there are much better places around.

Popped in to Kells in Seattle for a quick lunch. Really enjoyed the food and prices were reasonable. We even had the pleasure to have the owner greet us and come sit with us. We shared stories of Ireland and both have family in the same locations. Nice connection.

Worst tourist trap ever Terrible food I spent 14 days in the area and by far the worst overall experience , an absolute ripoff

Great place for "time out" or eat in the alley on Post Ave, just up hill from Pike Market! Still the same wonderful folks with great food and my "Black & Tan" on draw! Love this place!

Great place for a relaxed dinner with friends or colleagues. Nothing fancy - but it was perfect. We sat at the bar and the service was great and friendly. Ordered the short ribs and salmon - both excellent. You could totally go here just for drinks or drink and food. Rumor has that it's haunted as it used to be an old mortuary.

Friendly staff food hot and tasty drinks spot on appetizer cheese and bread was great. will return next time in town

From the beer, to the service, to the food, everything was, as usual, very good. I stop by here every single time I'm in Seattle. Every time. I do this because it reminds me of Cheers. I'm always greeted with smiles and I always leave feeling like I've had lunch or dinner with friends.

Don't even stop here. Service was slow. Food was horrible. I took my cousins from Europe there and it left a bad taste for Seattle. Non recommend.

I always enjoy finding my way to Kells. They serve several of their own brews on tap as well as Guinness. When walking the Pike Place Market, find your way to the Kells for a beer and lunch. My clam chowder was excellent-- Guinness, chowder and chips, the lunch of kings.

Always have good food here. My guests thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We had waited too long in a line outside another restaurant with no seat in sight. Walked into Kells and were immediately seated and served. Lovely atmosphere. The owner came and chatted with us :-)

I had the steak and kidney pie, because it is something I do not fix. It was very good. The others in the party enjoyed their lunch, though the pasties were a bit flat tasting. Our daughters says that is the way they are supposed to taste? It is crowded and noisy later in the afternoon.

Loved our lunch here. It’s of the beaten path and away from the crowds of Pike Place Market. Great food, service and friendly staff. Just loved it!

Really good Irish food. Get there early because it will be standing room only! The food I had was cooked well, and tasted great!

Definately authentic Irish style. Staff friendly and good variety of beers on tap. But food was dissapointing. Ordered the steak and kidney pie. Lots of kidney and tasteless gravy. Otherwise atmospehere and location are good

I loved the live music and good eats while at Kells. Added bonus were the friendly staff and great food!

An Irish pub with live music and a great whisky selection - what more do you need? Food is pub fare - but good quality with some nice touches. Get the Farls (basically an Irish potato pancake taco), especially the Pork Farl. Good draft beer selection (not huge but enough to have a good choice. The Whisky selection is quite good and reasonably priced. They have live music almost every evening - makes for a perfect backdrop to a conversation with friends. I'll definitely be back.

Me and my wife stumbled upon this place while exploring the market place. Stopped in for a quick pont and stayed for 4. Meet owner Karen and had nice conversation with her. Place it self is nice and laid back pints are nice and food was great. Went back a few days later and was greeted like we were family. So glad we found The Kells

We enjoyed the yummy Irish stew and the pickled beets! Pasties were serviceable. Our waiter, Ben, was nice and friendly, but not good with details. Several things we asked for (two limes with a drink, dressing on the side, etc.) did not materialize. And the music, was very Irish, but sitting in the back it was WAY too loud.

So good we visited twice. It is quiet despite being so close to Pike Place Market with outdoor seating which caught the afternoon sun. Food was great and locally sourced. Big shout out for the chowder! Staff friendly and clean toilets. A must visit for Seattle

No fish & chips here. The have a very limited menu & the service wasn't great. No children's menu or gluten free menu available.

Walking into this Post Alley bar, you really feel like you're in Ireland with the dark walls, wood furniture, and the cozy little nooks to sit in while you try one of the many brews. Our server was from Ireland, so the authenticity is thorough! We just had a drink after our dinner at the Pink Door across the alley, but even so, we were tempted to have a second dinner after looking at the classic pub items on the menu. There's Irish music too!

Loved this hidden gem. Close to the Market . We always enjoy a good Irish Pub. This was a cut above with good food and great service. Enjoyed a pint and my steamed clams appetizer was enough to be an entree.

Recently I had the opportunity to enjoy on several occasions the wonderful food and fine beer at Kells Irish restaurant. The restaurant is located on a side walkway or alleyway just above the Pike Street Market area. With outside and inside seating there is ample space to enjoy a brew, of which there are several, and a classic meal of corn beef, shepherd's pie, or Irish stew. They also serve a delicious corn beef sandwich and the Irish soda bread is second to none. The Stout is particularly tasty if you enjoy a dark beer. Of particular note are the folks who work at Kells. I had an opportunity to talk with several of the wait staff and the owner. Each time I returned, I felt like a regular which made the experience even more enjoyable. Waiters were friendly and effecient. Kells is definitely worth a visit or two or more for the food, brews, and friendly upbeat conversation.

I am Irish, ths bar felt like home, down to the fella singing Niall Diamond and Van Morrison songs on the guitar in the corner, a small amount of banter from the bar man and an excellent selection of irish whiskey. Love it!

We did not eat here , but sat in the quiet alley for a drink . The wine was very good for the price and my friend liked his beer . The server was especially nice .

I've been a fan of Kells for many years in Portland, but this was my first visit to the original location in Seattle. It's a great, authentic feeling Irish pub with plenty of live music, great beers and friendly staff. Oh, and it's considered one of the most haunted bars in the U.S. as the building was a former mortuary. But, the only spirits I encountered were in my Irish Car Bomb.

Perfect place to sit and have a drink after a long day of walking. Loved the music and had the cleanest bathrooms ever! Would return!

I sat at the bar, my bartender was very friendly. I sat next to two locals which is always a delight. I had bacon wrapped scallops with fresh veggies! Wow, they were wonderful. At 9 pm next door they started to play live music. It was fun listening to the Irish band

It feels like being in ireland: Friendly and helpful staff, variety of drinks, good food and on top of all this:excellent location-what more do you want?

When you enter Kells you are greeted by the owner, Ethna Mc Aleese, who is from Ireland. The atmosphere is friendly and fun. The food is good.

Not a huge selection of beers, but great atmosphere, typical Irish Pub. Bartender was great. About $6 for a beer. I didn't have any food, so I can't comment on that.

Ordered corned beef and cabbage since I haven't had it in 30+ years and love it. It was so tender and delicious. My husband had the halibut special, so thick and flaky. Yummm. No choice of fish and chips which we came for because it is a historic bldg and have no fryer.

I am giving one star only because they have live music and are at a fun location. Sadly, the service and food are wanting. They have their own beer on tap but it was flat. We had a table of 4 on a medium busy night...server brings 3 drinks and 20 min, later swings by and with a stupid look on her face exclaims "oh. I forgot your drink". Usually if this happens a server would fix it immediately, but I guess at Kells the servers do not apologize, have not been trained, are incompetent , or just dont give a rip. The missing drink shows up 15 min later. We order 2 sides of bacon,2 sides of soda bread, and a rasberry cobbler. 30 min later no food. We check with the bartender, and he looks into it and 15 min later the server brings our bacon and informs us that they are out of the soda bread and cobbler. Attitude was basically tough. Wow Crap service. Very disappointed. I am embarrassed for you. We are breaking up...IT'S NOT ME IT'S YOU!

My review takes into account the area Kells is in. Upon entering it took 15 minutes to just get water, and another 15 to order. Nobody in our party was at all impressed by the food, which was extra disappointing given the proximity to the market. Then our bills were combined and a 20% gratuity was add. Will not be back.

Enjoyed a nice dinner here. I had the corned beef and cabbage, and my husband had the Irish stew. During our meal, the owner, and older Irish lady came out and visited with us. Apparently her husband died three months ago, and she poured out her troubles a bit. Some might have found it off-putting, but since my mother-in-law is Irish, we found her adorable. It just added to the charm of the place. The food was not the most outstanding Irish food we have ever eaten, but it was good and hearty. The service was friendly, and we liked the atmosphere. Good times here.

We were a party of 4 people in our 70's touring Pikes Alley, Seattle, when one person felt ill and needed to sit down for a few minutes. We could not find a place to sit her down until we came across Kells. They had many outdoor tables and all were empty except one - it was about 11:00 am and not even lunch time yet - so we sat at the furthest table away from the door. The waitress came over and the person who felt ill explained to her that we would only be there for a few minutes - she was diabetic, felt faint - we would leave very shortly. Rudely, the waitress told us to get up and go find a park bench. We explained to her that we tried - there weren't any to be had and our friend felt she might pass out. I guess the waitress would have preferred she pass out cold in front of her restaurant?? I waitressed for many years. I would NEVER have treated anyone this poorly. I would have asked if she needed a glass of water and said to sit there as long as the table wasn't needed. The irony is, we had actually planned to eat at Kells but it was early and we had another party joining us a bit later. Needless to say, we did not eat there. I wonder - if and when this waitress is feeling poorly and needs a place to sit, will someone treat her as nastily? I hope not. A touch of kindness goes a long way toward building a good rapport for a business. Maybe Kells needs to find wait staff with nicer personalities - it would benefit this restaurant as no one likes rude staff. Or, maybe they just don't care. I don't know. I only know I won't recommend them, nor will I go there again. And yes, I am a local who brings visiting friends and relatives to Pikes Market often. We will find another place to eat.

We stopped in Kell's the last night (7/30) we were in Seattle. I ordered the Shepherds Pie and my husband ordered the Kell's Bookie, a NY steak. Both were delicious! Our waitress was fairly new but she was very pleasant and efficient. We would definitely return the next time we're in Seattle!

We found Kells when we were looking for an interesting place to eat with music. The food was delicious!! The owner visited with us --she is straight from Ireland!!! The guitarist did IRish and folk music

Thanks for the memories. It was wonderful being there. Loved the Guinness. Nathan was very kind. Fun.

Hidden gem! Don’t let it pass you by. Super service from a gentleman who’s been there over seven years and invested in the service. Food was delish. Drink options were plentiful and amazing.

I really enjoyed walking into this place, it reminded me of the Irish place we ate at in Prague. It was identical! Good friendly service and cool crowd with live music. Now i bet you want to know the "ish" part... It was the meal portions, they just seemed unusually small for the price. My whisky pork chop looked huge on the plate but it was butterflied and on the dry side....the corned beef and hash plates were like little appetizers, 3 pieces of meat on cabbage, hardly filling for dinner. So we just decided to drink more beer and whiskey, maybe that is their intent, idk LOL Overall i would come back for drinks but I would try another place for dinner...

Super fun staff and delicious (but very heavy) food and beer choices. Kels has been around for a very long time and the place has great history to it. I love the active, loud, and fun atmosphere this place has and make a point to stop every time I'm required to play tour guide.

Stopped in for the first half of the Seahawks game for a few beers. Always make it a point to stop in when I'm in the Pike Place area. Great atmosphere, nice patio, enough TVs to make viewing easy. Wait staff was busy but accommodating and pleasant. Will be back next time I'm in town!

Right down Post Alley near Pike Place Market you'll find this nice little restaurant and bar! Live music, drinks and amazing food. Not cheap but not too expensive. My mom had the clam chowder and pasties, said it was the best food she's had in a long time. I had the shepard's pie, very good!!!!

This was a great break in my day, and a fantastic place to end a long day of walking and sight seeing. I arrived at happy hour, and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful in choosing a beer I wanted. I had walked for miles as I went to the Space Needle, Pikes Place, and the aquarium, so it was great to sit and relax in this cozy Irish atmosphere. The beer was fantastic and the food was great too! I had the cheese platter and a sausage roll in the two to three hours I sat there. They allowed me to sit and write in my journal with no interruptions except for those with great customer service. I'd definitely go back!

We had just checked into the Marriott Waterfront after our flight from Dallas. The concierge recommended Kells for lunch just a few blocks away and what a treat it was. The site is rather hidden away in an alley above the Pike's Place Market but it is quite worth the search. The hamburgers and fries were grand. The setting was warm and enticing. The service was a bit on the slow and absent side but friendly and welcoming just the same. Kells was a great start to a wonderful and memorable week in Seattle.

Excellently located in the Pike Market area. House stout is decent. Service could be much friendlier but it is a tourist hangout. Hence not unexpected. Recorded Irish music trying to add to the “experience”. Didn’t seem to be any regulars in the place. Average overall experience. Won’t be back. Much prefer Fibber Magee in Dubai for the regular crowd, music and food despite the rough service staff

The food is fine -- not great but not bad either. Wait staff are very friendly. Great location in Pikes Market.

Stopped her after checking into our hotel. I was really looking forward to a good Irish meal. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. There was little to no flavor to the Irish Stew. The Banger's and Mash was so-so as well. The beer was good though!

We try to stop here for at least one meal each time we are in Seattle. The food is quite tasty and the beers are good. The patio seating is enjoyable on a nice day and they are dog friendly. The service is is always good and the wait staff friendly. A relaxing place to have a drink or meal.

Kells is one of our favorite lunch spots in Seattle. No view, but good service, good food and sometimes live music.. Top dish for us is the open face crab sandwich. Lots of tender crab and melted cheese. Add a cold draft Irish hard cider or a glass of Washington Chardonnay, and it's near perfect. Been many times and will likely be back for another lunch, or maybe just a glass of cider on our next trip to the north.

We had the Irish stew, steak and kidney pie, and a great cup of tea. Honest, fresh food. Lovely service and great music.

We always love to eat here when in Seattle. They have awesome food. I love the shepherds pie and the sausage rolls. Service could be better but it is not bad.

Good service. Good food. Fun Irish music. loud and fun with dancing We all had a great time. It was a blast.

Had a ball here. Took good care of the baby in our group, great sandwich, and good beers. Absolutely loved our visit.

Kelly Irish Pub has been a favorite for over a decade. Usually I have the corned beef and cabbage or Irish Stew which are excellent. This trip I tried the braised beef which was also excellent, but do keep in mind braised means the inside is near raw. I was disappointed that they no longer sell prints, but still highly recommend this authentic Irish fare.

Good delicious and service excellent. A must do for Seattle downtown. Full bar and live entertainment. It was the best Halibut meal!

Being one that looks for paranormal activity, I heard that Kell's was known to have activity so decided to check this place out. Our bartender, Rory Kell, explained that the current bar was a temporary one and that they were renovating the original restaurant which was a former mortuary. Hmnnnnnnnnnnn........ Though my paranormal evening was not to be, we had a most enjoyable evening trying different Scotches and learning about them from Scotch Master Extraordinaire, Rory. He claimed that, since it was a temporary location, he normally has more types of Scotch available. I find that hard to believe since the bar wall was covered in Scotch!!!! Sorry, I was there only for drinks and did not order any food. I was surprised that the beer on tap were Kell. Seems that Rory's cousin owns the local Kell's Microbrewery. Very interesting..... Long story short, if you're a Scotch fan, Kell's Irish Restaurant and Bar is the place to visit when in Seattle.

Just stopped in for delicious shepherds pie and a cider! It was fabulous! Beautiful sunny day! Speedy service, delicious food!

Ate here twice, lunch and dinner. Both times had the delicious corned beef sandwich. Tender corned beef on a soft roll, hot and tasty fries. I always look for an Irish Bar/Restaurant when abroad, you generally can't go wrong! Highly recommend this place. Service was fab.

We went there on a Saturday. There was as great crowd, great live bluegrass/irish music. We would recommend it to others.

Nice relaxing lunch after walking a lot in the public market in Seattle. We had Irish bangers and baked potatoes, chicken pastie, beef pastie and shepherds pie, all were very good. A little pricy for a family but ok for adults. Fun for our yearly visit to the Pacific Northwest.

I've been here over 100 times in the last 20 years, since I first moved to Seattle. I've had everything on the menu at least three times. I have never once had an improperly cooked meal, poor service, or a bad experience. I've been here in every season, for a pint or a dram or a meal, brought countless friends and family here, and it's always been wonderful. It's the perfect kind of comfort food in a traditional Irish setting. Best Irish stew and best pour of Guinness outside of Ireland (and I've spent a good bit of time in Ireland). You'll be hard-pressed to find a more authentic atmosphere and traditional fare anywhere. Highly recommended.

We frequent the Kells in Portland all the time, but we're in Seattle to visit family so we stopped by the Seattle location. We were lucky enough to sit outside on a lovely Seattle day. Good service , cold Black and Tan , life's good!

Ok pub, bit rough around the edges, however, the sausage roll is amazing. It's worth flying back to Seattle just to have one again. We didn't try any other food, but for a few drinks and a sausage roll there is no where better.

It's always nice to take time to go and eat at Kells, It's a nice pub setting, the food we had was wonderful, love the ambience. We had the chicken salad and the corn beef and cabbage with an appitizer plate. Of course I will go back...

Stopped in for a quick lunch... Typical Irish pub with a great beer selection and good food... I recommend the corned beef

I really liked the atmosphere of this place. My husband had and the oysters and did not like them at all. I had a beef pastie, never had anything like that, so that was cool. It was ok, the dough was still a little raw in a couple places. It gave the history behind pasties which was was good for someone like me. Service was good. I'd go back to try some other dishes.

Hidden behind Pikes Place is this lovely little gem...we had a wonderful lunch and the prices were very reasonable...staff were very rushed but always met our needs...great place for a lunch and a beer.

Traditional Irish flavor and pub atmosphere. Wonderful selection of single malt scotch. Owner greeted me and was very friendly, provided recommendation for house specialty. Oh and did I mention the extensive menu of single malt scotch?

We came here for a drink after dinner at the Pink Door. The drink selection was a little limited but good and the service was prompt and attentive. The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was enjoyable.

We liked Kells food enough to stop prior to our cruise and the day we returned from the cruise! We had fish and chips and Shepherd's Pie for dinner - both were extremely good! Then for lunch when we returned, it was mac and cheese, chicken pasty and bangers and mash. Again, very tasty, filling and no complaints.

My colleagues and I love hitting this place for happy hours and celebrations. The environment is friendly, the food is tasty, and the owners often come and chat with us. Also, if you're a [European] football fan, the games are always playing. Love this place!

Was introduced to this spot during a ghost tour of the market. A historic building that used to be a mortuary. The food is fantastic. We had the shepherds pie and corned beed and cabbage. The corned beef just melts in your mouth. Delicious.
Average outdoor restaurant/bar
We were looking for oysters and drinks. They had drinks, but no oysters. (Strange, but true). This was average in every way, but it was pleasant to sit outdoors.
