Great value for the money! Family had mussels, bangers and mash, and fish & chips - all were wonderful! Kells stout was excellent! Would come back again!

A lovely helpful waitress and good plain food. We had the Guinness (it was the law) and the Shepard's Pie. Both were delicious. We wanted to return but ran out of time. They have a great idea for collecting money for charity. One wraps 2x25cent coins in a dollar bill And the waitress throws it at the ceiling, where, defying gravity it sticks, great fun.

We've enjoyed Kell''s Brewpub on NW 21st but this was our 1st to the downtown location. It was day 3 of St. Patrick's Festival & crazy busy. We went for a late lunch but they weren't serving food in the pub so ate in the adjacent dining room. I don't know if that restriction was for the festival or is policy. The music & people having a super good time were in the pub so we missed out on that. The Irish Nachos-fried potato chips instead of tortilla chips-is huge beyond words. There's more than enough for 2 to share. My burger was nice-not over the top delish, but fine nevertheless. Our beer choices were IPA, Kell's Stout, & Guinness. Theirs is tastier. They're about 2 1/2 blocks from MAX which we appreciate. No need for us to drive downtown.

Dropped in for a meal and some drinks. Staff are friendly and attentive. Ordered curry chicken which had about 5 pieces of chicken, 10 pieces of apple and a heap of fries. Cottage pie was nice. Prices reasonable.

My husband and I went for a late lunch after Comic con. The restaurant was full but the server/hostess immediately spotted a table to clean off for us. Service was great and prompt. My reuben and french fries were delicious. Really our only gripe was the lamb stew. He ordered a bowl, not a cup, which after it came we clarified with the server because it was a very small portion in a slightly oversized cup. She stated that she had even asked the chef and he said that was the right size. It also did not resemble or taste like lamb at all, but more like beef. This is an Irish pub so they should really correct that.

Kells Irish Pub is exactly that .. an Irish pub. Football, (called soccer here in the US), playing, Guiness and Kells stout on tap, (along with other choices), not to mention great Irish whiskey offerings. The food is a great selection of "pub food" but with a classy Portland OR touch. I had the sweet potato fries and my colleague had the wings. The service was efficient, friendly and unobtrusive. The place is clean, and the atmosphere welcoming and fun.

Lamb stew, mushroom risotto, and pot pie were excellent. Jameson Belgium chocolate dessert plus homemade whipped cream is just wonderful. It is so good that it rated getting the last drop via finger around the bowl!

If you like Irish dishes this is the place to visit. Very original dishes. First visit included the best mushroom soup I've ever eaten. The soup had small chunks of been and I believe, one of Kell's craft beers in the recipe.

Stopped in for lunch after a long morning spent walking. My husband enjoyed his blood orange beer, but the food was average at best. A decent place to stop in for a drink, but I'd eat somewhere else next time.

We were at the 21st pub, not the one on 2nd. It was 6PM on a Thursday evening and definitely not busy. We walked, went to the podium, and waited. Nothing happened. After a while I went to the bar. Nothing happened. I asked the woman behind the bar if we should seat ourselves. She said we could seat ourselves anywhere we like. We did. Nothing happened. A man came out from behind the bar, walked toward us, stopped first to deal with some glasses, turned, and went back behind the bar. Nothing happened. We got tired of waiting after a little while longer, so something happened: We left. Great place if you're on a diet and want to be left alone.

Absolutely disappointing. Walked for 25min and we're given a bar atmosphere with crazy loud club music. So sad/crazy... Was the darkest part of the weekend.

Enjoyed dinner tonight, the food was served hot and fresh. And super tasty. We had the Cornbeef and cabbage, bangers and mash, curry chicken and shepherd's pie. All meals were brilliant, and very good proportion sizes. The waiter was very attentive and just a a really nice guy. There was also live music and it was very good. Definitely a place to visit.

What a great old bar.... beer was awesome and great ambience.. the beer selection was out of this world.

My husband and I have been stopping by Kells for a couple years when we have time when we are in Portland from out of town. Today on our way to portland for a shopping trip, me being pregnant and having cravings I wanted the meatballs and mashed potatoes. Like i always have gotten at Kells. Well sadly they dont have them anymore. I ordered a burger and that didnt taste the same either and was beyond greasy and fatty we could squeeze the burger and watch the grease pour out. They had portland ketchup which is very good but a little tacky they didnt have portland mustard to accompany. Our waitress had no personality and never checked back on us to see if we wanted drinks then to refill drinks when we finally got them. Not a great experience seems like new management or a new owner has taken over. Really sad because Kells used to be an Amazing place to go to in downtown portland.

Stopped in for a quick lunch and a flight of beer. Tried the kale salad and foam chowder - both were excellent. Great selection of traditional Irish beer, locally made. Sampled them in a flight & quite enjoyed them.

Pros: - Delicious Kell's Irish nachos, must have - Nice decor - Unique menu however limited selection What we ate: - Kell's Irish nachos - Kell's IPA beer Would recommend the nachos. Best nachos I've ever had the beer was great as well - Smoked salmon half sandwich w/ fries - Kell's burger w/ cheese - Shepherd's pie - Fish and chips Average typical pub food. Would of rather ordered another dish of the nachos instead of getting these meals Cons: - Our server, Josh, was not very pleassnt. Had a passive aggressive tone of voice, is quite rude and impatient when it came to payment. Tipped him 15% and felt that was too much to give considering the unsatisfactory service - Max 3 credit cards per table

I truly enjoyed going to Kells Irish restaurant and pub when they have music. It’s nice to have a pint or some whiskey most of the food is good it is an acquired taste and listening to the music is just so spirit lifting. Definitely a great place for couples or a group of your fun friends.

Really friendly and welcoming bar where there are great times to be had. Authentic Irish Bar with real Irish music and great beer. You can even get a Bud Light if that’s your thing. Great food as well. Don’t forget to say hi to Jimmy, one of the bartenders! He’s a great guy with plenty of wit and great conversation! Thank you for a great time Kells!

Great place to have cocktails and a little food. Staff was very friendly and attentive to the patrons. Great atmosphere and ambiance.

Kells is a local pub and restaurant that has good energy and is a fun local hangout. If you aren't into crowds, go here during lunch or for an early dinner. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. The atmosphere here can't be beat. Go at night on the weekends and mingle with the crowd while listening to Irish music - sing along too. A must-have shared plate is the Irish Nachos made with thin cut potato chips cooked crisp and topped with what seems like two pounds of cheese, olives, onions, and sour cream. I’ve ordered many items off the menu and I haven’t been disappointed with any of it.

Stopped here for a light lunch, and had beautiful, fresh, delicious meals. Irish pub with a versatile menu - loved it! Perfect Pint Guinness pours! Grilled salmon Caesar salad, and a hummus plate both excellent. Service lovely.

Fun casual atmosphere. Excellent food. Would like to go back for happy hour when they have the live band. Would definitely be a place I would frequent

OK, go here and get a pint, sit out front, or wait to see who arrives to set up the party in the amazing upstairs venue. Historic building, and when inside, in the dark depths of the back tables, you might just feel like you are in Dublin again.

This Irish pub is as authentic as any in Ireland and it had a great atmosphere. It was loud and lively and packed with customers. Getting there is a short walk from the riverfront. Our server was friendly and efficient and he was versed in the Irish whiskeys available and he helped me narrow down my choice. There was an entire wall of whiskey bottles and it was worth taking a picture of. The food was fabulous. The fish and chips were the best I've ever had. Crisp, fresh fish and not very greasy. They even had some choices that vegetarians will like. The biggest kicker of all is that the prices were so reasonable. Two entrees, 2 beers, 2 shots of whiskey and the bill was under $50. There were dollar bills pinned all over the ceiling and I'm not sure what that was all about but it was interesting. It was an unexpected surprise to find this pub.

Stopped in for a drink during happy hour. They mix a good drink and then we decidied to have dinner. My husband had fish and chips, they were excellent. I had a hamburger and fries, also excellent. Then we had an Irish Coffe, best I have had anywhere! Great atmosphere, friendly service, and reasonable prices, what more can you ask for?

Popped in for dinner, seeking an “interesting” pub meal. The beer was good. The food, just okay. We had a shepherds pie that my missus described as a bit ordinary, while my fish and chips were greasier than I usually like (tip - remove some of the batter. Yeh, it kind of defeats the fish and chip thing, but cuts down on the oil taste). Was not a bad meal and staff were attentive. Just not a rush-back-for meal. The beer, like I said, was the best part.

We arrived for lunch about 15 minutes before they opened. They allowed us to come in and be seated. We made it a long lunch because everything was great. Super waitress, super food and cold drinks even had a great talk with owner about history of they tavern. Strongly recommended.

Had lunch at Kells Irish Restaurant on our weekend trip to Portland. We hadn’t been there for years but it was just as awesome as we remembered. The sausage roll was very special. Also a must try is their amazing sweet potato fries. The adult drink menu is great. Try the Kells Lemonade 😊

So glad we found this after wandering the streets trying to find somewhere to eat that looked decent! Staff were great and really friendly and we were seated straight away. The menu had a lot of choice but we opted for the fish and chips, very British! It was a great choice! Good sized portion and it was delicious! Washed down with a G & T from the large selection of drinks, perfect! Very reasonably priced too.

We usually don’t eat here but stop often for a beer even though they are a bit high on the prices. I’m not complaining. We are willing to pay it because Kel’s is a really cool place.

We had an hour to kill before our evening cruise and Kells Irish Pub and Restaurant was not far from where we parked. It was similar to walking into an old Pub in Ireland with all the wood and spirits stacked in front of the mirrored wall behind the bar. The bar keep used a ladder on wheels to grasp a bottle and mix his drinks. The staff was friendly and the bar clean. There were a mix of people in the evening and all were welcomed upon arrival. The food is bar food plus, and mid priced for a downtown establishment. There was outdoor seating as well. I say try it you will like it.

Kells advertises itself as one of the best Irish pubs in the country. While that might be a stretch, it is a very good place. We had six of us there for lunch one day and enjoyed it a lot. The pub was not crowded, which made it easy on the waiter, who then spent a lot of time with us going over the menu, answering questions, even telling us a little about the place. The menu is mostly pub food, but has enough variety to meet most people's needs. I had the burger and my wife had the shepherd's pie, both well prepared and tasty enough. We noticed that they have live music almost every night and regretted not being able to come back in the evening to check it out. Maybe on a future visit to Portland.

We had some time to kill before we left Portland and stumbled onto this gem. The craft beers, especially the Red Ale were excellent. The food was very good. I had the bangers and mash and I felt like I was back in Ireland. It may be a little noisy for some, but great "Irish pub" feel!

Great service -very busy Irish pub- authentic Irish fare- Irish stew, seafood pasty and shepherds pie - don’t forget the chowder! Add beverage and for 4 it’s about $20 each Bathroom is next door at the cantina ....

I had the Shepard’s pie so amazing and the sauce on top was really yummy!!!! So filling I would recommend for a hearty meal since it has ground beef :) and I also had the strawberry lemonade cocktail so yummy and fruity 🥳

My mom and I had to go to the Kells Irish Pub, My first time and it was so good. My mom had the corn beef and cabbage and she said it was a must. I had the shepherds pie which was to die for!!! I craved it all night and day!

My experience with Irish pub fare is heavy, salty, tasteless meals with good beer. Not so with Kells. This place had a great beer and cocktail selection but the food was great. I was surprised to see risotto on the menu! Out of all the food my friends ordered, the shepherds pie was outstanding. Great place!

I loved the restaurant! We went for dinner and we had a great meal! As I don't like beer, I've tried an excellent local wine ( so, if you, as me, os the only one that doesn't drink beer or whisky, don't worry!!!). The service was friendly and eficiente. I strongly recommend !!!

Loved the atmosphere and the live music. We had drinks and nachos..amazing! Only drawback was the occasional whiff of smoke from the cigar bar downstairs.

This pub was near the hotel so we thought we would give it a go for dinner. Pleasantly surprised by the excellent food and great service. The food was tasty and had great flavours, a good selection of beers and a nice warm ambience. We would go back there again.

We stopped here for lunch the first afternoon in Portland. The Reuben was very flavorful. One of us had an open faced salmon sandwich that was to die for. Great flavor and nicely presented. Beer choices were superb. We also went to their brewery for a light snack and the Irish nachos were a MOUNTAIN of food. The bacon wrapped dates were also very good with a nice flavor.

Had dinner with friends and stayed for music. Very fun atmosphere. Bagpipe players come out and play--very fun! Good shepard's pie

While on a tour in Portland, OR. several of us decided to try Kells Irish Pub for dinner. We were not disappointed. The Reuben was excellent, as was the Kells Burger. Service was great and our waiter demonstrated the "trick" they do to stick dollar bills to the ceiling, which is donated annually to charity. Overall a great meal and a memorable evening.

Coming from Ireland and Boston both, I would agree this is a top place...too large to be a real Irish pub but certainly nothing like the usual large American restaurant. Good long bar, long menu with grand items, huge portions (ok, this part is like American restaurants), interesting sports decorations and noted Irishmen on the walls. There is a TV but it's not dominating the place as so often happens. Service was excellent for our lunch. A well known Washington/Oregon Irish singing group performs often during the week in the evenings. There was no indication they cater for children altho they might..I think any kids would be bored here.

Nice place for drinks and if you need a Guinness or dark Irish dry stout, this is the place where you get them in Portland.

After spending the day in the city we decided to stop in at the Kells for a bite. The Irish nachos and the bangers and mash were great. The service was wonderful until it came time to get out check. It took about 15-20 minutes before we finally called someone over to get it. Otherwise, it was a lovely place to watch sports, chat, and get a cold beer/drink.

a group of us went here for lunch while on a city tour. Service was a bit slow, as we only had one hour, but it was friendly and the food was excellent. The beer was good, and we all had a good time

This is a great place to go and watch soccer games and have a drink and some food. I always have their shepherd pie since it is so delicious! The atmosphere in here is always great and the staff is welcoming.

Had dinner here; it was busy, but not crazy. Staff was super helpful. You should definitely ask your server about the dollars on the ceiling, and add one of your own! Food was very good. It's a place I'd happily return to again.

Great whiskey selection. The Guinness is perfect and they have live music at night. If you are looking for a pub in Portland then you have come to the right place

We enjoyed our dinner at Kells. Daughter had the Reuben and we split the chicken curry, served with fries which was a surprise. It was reasonably priced and a fun place for dinner. Atmosphere is also very nice.

Shepherds pie was so good. Lamb stew very tasty but too many potatoes. Fish and chips excellent and good service.

My wife and I went to Kells today for lunch. We sat outside in the small patio area under an umbrella. We each ordered a sandwich that comes only with the soup of the day; to substitute fries was $4 extra. It took longer than it should for the food to come out, nearly 20 min; considering they weren't really busy. When the food did come out the server put the plates on the table and left without asking anything and before I could even get his attention. I went inside the restaurant to ask for mayo or something to add to the sandwiches. They only have a ranch type sauce and seemed annoyed that I asked. I also asked for a refill of tea and another little cup of ketchup. They brought out the ranch mix pretty quick, but didn't bring the tea or ketchup. After about 10 min I went back inside to ask about the tea and ketchup which we were out of. They said they would bring it right out. We finished lunch without either and never had another visit from the server. I went in again to ask for the check and since I never got my tea, could I get one to go. They don't have plastic cups so they couldn't do that, but offered to bring a tea out now, as we were ready to leave. The food itself was ok, but small portions. The cornbeef on the sandwich was cut thick and tough, they don't have Rubins for some reason. The BLT bacon was plentiful but charred very dark. Even if the food was perfect the service was horrible and they don't seem flexible or accommodating. I hate to have to chase down a server to get basics. There are too many other places to eat, I won't be back for sure.

Great food, great atmosphere, comfortable and ample seating & the wait staff are wonderful - be sure to throw a dollar bill up and stick it on the ceiling.

We couldn’t get waited on! We left after 5 minutes there was a bartender and two servers cleaning/ clearing the table behind ours, neither bothered to stop to take an order. Their loss

We enjoy Irish pubs and had Kells on our short list when we visited Portland as we had heard good many good things about it. Perhaps we caught them on an off night, but the place was fairly dead. The food was ok but not great, same for the service. The place had a lot of character, so perhaps if we're back in Portland we may give it another shot.

I decided I wanted Shepard's Pie and a pint of Guinness for lunch, so I walked into Kell's. It was a great choice. Friendly staff took my order and brought my drinks. I had three football (soccer) matches to choose from while I waited. The Shepard's pie was nicely presented and hot out of the oven. The quantity was right and the flavor was excellent. While the presentation was fancier than what I expected, it certainly wasn't an attempt to make up for the quality of the meal. I'll be back for more.

So we went with a group of 22. Yes 22. We had made reservations month ahead of the date so this was not a surprise. We arrived to find that we had the one and only waitress that was looking after the entire end of the pub. This was crazy. Our huge group along with 6 other tables. So needless to say things were not smooth. After the first drink it was just easier to muscle up to the bar because at that point the live band started. The food came out together and for the most part it was good. Disappointed the band played 80s cover tunes and not Irish music. For the small pub they produced a big sound. If I'm back in Portland i would try this again just because i think the experience could have been better.

Simply put, a great Irish pub in all respects. The food is good, the service great. And the music offered is good as well.

We had a hard time deciding where to have dinner in downtown Portland with so many choices. We decided on Kells and were pleasantly impressed with the food, atmosphere & service. My wife and I had the Shepherds Pie and fish and chips. Very good overall & yes we recommend this place.

Service was great and the food was excellent -- will be going back. Tables for outside when the weather is nice and lots of seating inside

Enjoyed the Belfast chicken curry. Didn’t know what to expect but it was delicious. Kids’ food portions were large, and reasonable for the $5 a plate cost. Waiting staff was patient and helpful.

The food was good quality and portions were good sized - not huge but not too small. I'm a 260 pound guy and it filled me up, but didn't overdo it. The fish was very good and the house tartar sauce was really good also. The fries were good, but seemed to be what you would buy frozen.

Stopped there to follow EURO 2016 football of my team as I as in Portland for work. I arrived at 6am for the kick off and breakfast! Note that they do not serve beers before 7am. I had a good time.

My boyfriend and I ate here the other day the food was fantastic. Really hit the spot. However I feel we were profiled by our waitress who seemed to think we weren't tippers (because we ordered water for a drink and not beer) and therefore not worth serving like the rest of the tables. An older woman with blonde hair and glasses-we didn't get one smile or one greeting. No niceties. Yet we watched her frequently visit her other tables so friendly. I've been a server before. I know how to tip. I was slightly offended wondering what I did so wrong she was mean from the get go. She lost out. ANYWAYS I would highly recommend this place. Besides that one awful woman the place was great in every way.

What a fun atmosphere here at Kells. Went in for dinner. Love the brick walls. Lots of sports on the TV's for those so inclined. Keon was a great server. Fun, friendly and very attentive. We ordered a couple of drinks. Kells brews their own beers, and the Irish Red was very tasty. Hubby ordered and Irish lass, Jamesons and Irish cream. They had a special soup, a carrot curry with a coconut foam. Very flavorful. Next was the Kells wedge salad. Lots of lardons and crispy onion toppers. Big enough to split. Last was Bangers and mash with a mustard sauce. All really good. Lots of fun, great service and food.

We came to Kells to grab a bite to eat before the Haunted Pub Tour. The food and service was satisfactory. They had a unique charity trick that would cost you a buck ($1) and it's worth having one of the servers do it. I believe Kells is missing a great opportunity. They could have a really great speakeasy if they would loose the TVs in the cigar lounge in the basement. I couldn't find a speakeasy in Portland that felt like a real speakeasy and Kells could be it with a few simple modifications.

My husband said he could eat about 4 bowls of the Irish Lamb Stew. He was dismayed a "large" bowl wasn't larger. My Shepherd's Pie was very good. As I'm a woman I had enough but more might have been nice. Server was friendly.

We stopped in here for something really Irish for lunch, and we weren't disappointed. A Guinness or two set the atmosphere. We shared the Ballycastle Sausage Roll, which was a wonderful example of a sausage roll, with an interestingly piquant sauce. We also shared the Wee Hottie Scottie, a Scotch Egg with pickles and mustard which was also delightful. I had the lamb stew, which was very tasty. My wife enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie, served as a complete pie in a soup bowl. We also had some of their soda bread, which was excellent, and came with some wheaten bread, also very good. Despite the temptation, we skipped dessert. But it was a delightful lunch and started our vacation with a traditional Irish meal. It doesn't hurt that there's a lot of Irish blood in us, and this was very like what you would get in a good restaurant in Ireland. We'll be back when next we are in Portland.

I love the atmosphere and live music. I got the Irish nachoes they are delicious and gluten free and more than enough for three people to share.

I fell in love with the Lamb stew they served. It was juicy, the potatoes had properly marinated into the soup, the lamb was tender and tasty. The restaurant has a modern decor with lot of wood paneling and a great collection of liquor on the shelves behind the bar. It was an early Saturday morning and not very busy, the way I liked it as the servers give you full attention. Located close to the Chinatown area and close to the Voodoo donuts shop.

10 of us poured into Kells for libations, food and belated birthday celebrations. The waiter was quick to throw a couple of tables together for us and make our big loud group feel more than welcome. Kells has, makes, good beer, and offers quite a selection of serious whiskeys. Now for the food...it was spectacular. When in an Irish pub have the Irish dishes. I had the corned beef and cabbage. Best I’ve had, and I’ve had it a lot! My coworker had the lamb stew and hummed the entire time he was eating! Make Kells a top five stop in Portland!

Centrally located in downtown Portland - easy walking distant to many hotels. Food was good - not outstanding but not bad either. They have more authentic Irish food on menu. I had Shepards Pie and it was good -- not too greasy. Portion size was a little small. Drinks were good. Would go back again.

Good beer and good vibes! I wish they had some more upbeat music on while the band was on break because it really brought the vibe down. But all and all a good time.

Great food! Great beer! Great service! Great bands! They have a library ladder that rolls across the floor under the bar just to reach the upper shelves of the whiskey. Great crowd of fun loving people laughing and having fun!

Every time we come here we’re greeted with a smile and an Irish accent which makes the genuineness of this place so heartwarming. As a Yank who lived in the UK for 20 years and a hubby who’s a Brit, coming here makes us feel right at home. The food and service are excellent and the live Irish music joyful. Our repeat visits are a testimony to the superb ambiance of this wonderful Irish pub.

For Cigar Aficionados come in the front door and slip downstairs into the lounge/man-cave. Great place to smoke when in downtown Portland. Good bar food and place to unwind when on Business.

I stumbled upon this place when running one early evening and made a note to check it out for dinner. One of the best shepherds pies I’ve ever had and their stout which they brew is as good or better than Guinness!

Good food and great service. The owner came by at the end and talked to us, wry nice guy. The food was really good, especially the fish and chips.

I think almost every visit to Portland includes a stop at Kells for drinks and dinner. This is a family-friendly pub with wonderful staff and amazing Irish food. The Sheperd's Pie was among the best I have ever had and it went down smooth with your cider and shots of Jameson Whisky. We will be back!

On a cool and wet day, their Irish Coffee hit the spot. The welcoming friendly staff made us feel at home upon entry. I had one of the best Reuben's I have had in Portland. It was stuffed with corned beef and kraut on toasted rye bread. The fries were cooked perfectly. My guest had a Caesar Salad with chicken. Crisp greens were topped with what appeared to be a whole chicken breast. The huge bar is stocked with most anything one would want. Multiple shelves require a ladder to reach the top shelf brands. A parking garage across the street had a big sign advertising a $5 credit for those dining st Kell's. It's also a short walk from the MAX red or blue line First and Oak stop.

Ate with a large group and we all tried each other's items - the food was delicious. We also enjoyed the live musician who played many favorites from a variety of genres - I think his name was "Danny"? Also tried a flight of Kells beers - I asked the waiter to get me the 4 most popular flavors for my flight as they flexible and will customize your flight to your tastes. What a great evening and what a fun place!

Kells Irish Pub is a chain - they are in other cities like Seattle. Their own beers are on tap + others in bottles. They have live music every night - makes it a nice place to stop for a few beers.

We stopped for a beer after shopping and walking for most of the day. Great beer and atmosphere, excellent choice near the market.

I came here after enjoying the International Rose Test Garden. The beer is good. I tried the blood orange one. I also had the caprese salad and pretzel with beer cheese. I enjoyed all 3 things I ordered. The facility is beautiful inside. It’s also presently decorated for fall. There’s a lovely fireplace. If you’re a soccer fan, I bet this is a good place to watch some matches. There looks to be a wide selection of liquor so if you’re a cocktail person, this seems like a good option too. The Irish bartender (slender guy) was great.

The beer was delicious, the stout that had a hint of chocolate in it was great! The fries were delicious and the staff was very friendly ! Great atmosphere !

Eclectic and actually has good food. The bar is fun with dollars on the ceiling. It gets pretty crowed, but the music and staff are fun.

Great Irish pub staying strong in a neighborhood that is steadily declining. A Portland tradition. Nice beer, whiskey selection. But thinking back, I've only had the Guiness here. Be sure to go down stairs into the cigar room.

This restaurant is one of my highlights of my Portland tour. We stopped here during a Ghost Boos & Booze pub crawl, and ended up coming back once it was done to get supper. For food, I had the boneless wings. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the outside was nice and crispy, I wish I had room for more but I got so full. For drinks, I ordered the Kells Lemonade (Reyka Vodka, strawberry puree, and lemonade served over ice) and it was very yummy and refreshing! Once we were done with supper, we headed down to hang out in the cigar lounge (part of the Shanghai underground tunnel system) just for vibes and creeps. The manager and employees were very friendly and had funny stories regarding their potential ghost encounters in the restaurant. When we went back a couple nights later, we were surprised that the manager remembered us, and had more lovely conversations with some of the staff (shout-out to John, Eric, and the waitress with Dutch braids whose name we didn't catch :( for making our time there all the more enjoyable!).

This was a catered event and I would recommend it for such occasions because they did great. The food was very good and had meatballs, cheesy potatoes, salad and roasted veggies. The room was perfect for the meet and greet we were attending for the Food show the following day. The bar was open and call if you prefers top shelf. I really liked the Irish red Ale they had on draft. I have been to the lower bar before for a pint, but will need to go for food sometime if it’s like their catering. Great beers on draft will always bring me back!

This place was a little bit dangerous getting here, stepping on homeless people. But, once we got passed the boarded up windows on Burnside Rd., we went to an lovely hole in the wall place called Kells Irish Pub. We had hummus plate and lamb stew with Kells special lager. Delicious! While sitting in a cozy corner nook, there was a little Irish quartet with violinists and singer who entertained us Wonderful! Lovely 3 large tvs, and the world cup was going on as well. Wait service was phenomenal and atmosphere authentic Irish culture. Lovely place!

It was a late, busy night for me, so I decided to try Kells because it is open past midnight. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie, which is one of my all-time favorite dishes to order at restaurants. I was amazed at how delicious it was. The service was friendly and fast. There was also some live music playing in the corner stage, and I thought that was exciting. Note that there is a restaurant section along with the pub, and minors (under 21) are not allowed in the pub after 8 p.m. Minors are allowed in the restaurant until it closes, however. This restaurant is conveniently close to the Skidmore Fountain MAX Station on the blue and red lines, 6th and Pine Station on the green and yellow lines, and the 5th and Oak Station on the green and orange lines. Just note that this is in the Old Town/Chinatown district, which is a pretty high crime area, so use your big city skills when walking around there.

great bar/ restaurant brilliant vibe lots of happy people enjoying. You know when its good when the place is full and it was every time we went there. House cider is very good be warned its strong. Various snacks and mains all looking good. Staff were nice and chatty so our personal experience was very pleasing.

We have always checked out Irish pubs in the US ever since we visited Ireland. This one seems very authentic, and the shepherd's pie was probably the best I've ever had. We ate in the quieter restaurant part, but the more traditional part seemed to be a lot of fun.

Kells is a traditional looking Irish Pub/Restaurant. It was warm and the folks were friendly...very nice for a drizzly, cold evening. We shared a batch of the sweet potato fries which were crispy and delicious. We also shared the shepherds pie - oh my! Lovely, rich gravy mixed with hamburger, some veggies and then a big layer of mashed potatoes on top. Quite heavenly. The sweet potato fries dipped into the gravy were exactly what I needed!! The service was quick and the servers were friendly!

Kells is a Portland landmark and worth the visit. The Irish coffee was delicious, as were the potato nachos, the sausage roll and the fish and chips. Delicious food, great service, and comfortable atmosphere.

I got right off a place and came to this place. I was in the mood for beer and fish and chips and this place did not disappoint. The patrons and the staff were very friendly to me on this evening. The vibes are good as well. After dinner I went down to the basement for cigars and whiskey. I highly suggest this place for a place to go unwind.

I expected better of Kells especially for St. Patrick's Day... First off, when we arrived, there was a long line to enter the restaurant with a cover charge of $20 cash. Me and most people I know don't carry much in cash. In the previous years of me going to Kells on St. Patrick's Day, they didn't have a cover charge. They make quite a bit of profit as it is with the premium food and drink prices. To say they are capitalizing over a holiday is an understatement. We then explained to the staff we simply wanted to have a St. Patrick’s day meal and they instructed us to go upstairs where we could sit and eat. After going upstairs and waiting literally 20 minutes with no instruction or signage on where to sit or order, we finally got assistance from the bartender. She instructed that the it was a “limited menu” due to it being upstairs and only had about 6 food items to choose from. For myself I ordered the corned beef pasty and my partner ordered the shepherd’s pie along with two cups of beers that totaled $45. At this time, I thought my angst and bad experience was behind and I could look forward to a tasty and filling meal. This was not the case. We located an available but dirty table where we waited for 45 minutes for our food. When it came to us, they each were on paper plates, my “meal” was simply one small pasty which was more of starter and not an entrée, cold on the outside, and room temperature on the inside. The shepherd’s pie was slightly larger but nowhere near substantial to quell one’s appetite. The food, service, and whole experience were shockingly bad all the way around. I don’t remember having such a bad experience at Kells in all the years prior. I left feeling sleazy and ripped off majorly. It’s very hard for me to have sympathy for local restaurants like this that were suffering during COVID-19 and begging for help and patronage. Now that the pandemic is dying down and they have one big event that attracts people, they’re going to upcharge and rip people off? Really?? I was an opponent for the possibility of Kells closing their doors when they announced they were for sale but maybe it’s time for them to go.

Good food, Service and drinks ! Our server was Joshua and he was great, always checking on us and had a great smile and was easy to talk to. The food was great and he made sure we did'nt run out of drinks !

Great Irish Food. Shepherd’s Pie with rich gravy and beautiful presentation. Fully stacked Rueben sandwich with tender corned beef and great sauerkraut. More than enough food to split between two.

We went with friends and wanted good pub food and a fun environment. Exactly what we got at Kells! Food was wonderful, service was great. Fun place with a great live band on the wknd. Music was just the right volumn and they played cover songs which made the night fun. Definetly recommend.

Came into this place out of the rain - nice atmoshere, and good food. Also, they have a ceiling filled with money people donate and on St. Patrick's Day they take the money down and match it and give it to charity. You need to go by, check it out and donate a little to charity.

As we arrived at our nearby hotel late on a weeknight, we found our first option for drinks was already closed well before 11:00 pm. Kells was our second option and it turn out for be a great choice. As we entered they told us that it was last call as the bar was very quiet. I joked with the Bartender that a real Irishman/Pub would never close so early. He laughed and served us our drinks. I asked about my bourbon options and their prices, while we talked about the surrounding area. Long story short, we drank for another hour and half with the funny and entertaining barman. The beer was great, the whiskey pour was more than honest and the company was affable. Recommended.

Not far from our hotel with a good menu. Friendly service. We enjoyed Corned Beef with cabbage and a Reuben. Perfect to help us recover after a long road trip... and the drinks helped too.

Seriously - I am a nacho connoisseur. These were deep fried potato chips loaded like nachos. It tasted like a mix of potato skins/ nachos . I pretty much licked the plate clean. 😜

Wonderful service, excellent food, craft beer made in their own brewery. Very tasty, our server was wonderful. Only problem was they cranked up the music which got too loud.

We stopped in for an early dinner and were surprised to see the the restaurant part of Kells was closed for a private party. No problem though, because they offered both the pub fare menu and the dining room menu to us when they seated us in the pub area. We had the fish and chips and the steamed mussels along with a glass of wine and a pint of Kells' stout. The fish was in a thick, but crispy and tasty beer batter and perfectly cooked. The mussels were in a delicious apple cider sauce with bacon, garlic and chives accompanied by garlic soda bread. One drawback, however, was that several shells had chipped and pieces had fallen into the sauce. I had to spit out at least a dozen pieces of shell out of the sauce while eating it. The wine was typical of a pub, while the stout was a bit different than the standard Guinness -- sort of a chocolaty flavor that came as a bit of a surprise. Still, I enjoyed it. So, to sum up. Good food and friendly service in a setting reminiscent of a pub in the Emerald Isle.

We were a party of approx 40 that arrived in a party limo bus to Kells. The fun had already begun before we arrived at Kells. Kells is one of the better "wannabe" Irish pubs and located in the Old Town. Good atmosphere and great service in the bar. We had the sample of local brews (no guinness tho!) with chicken wings and nachos. All were great. Afterwards we left to go on the haunted tour of the Shanghai Tunnels which included the a cigar handout. Our guide was very good. Would recommend not going to this part of town on your own! All in all, a great fun night.

We were looking for a place to wait out the Portland traffic and came across Kells. The happy hour menu included both beer and mixed drinks. We ordered all three appetizers and the caesar salad from the happy hour menu. It made a fun little dinner for two and the food was excellent.

The experience was great! Just what an Irish pub should be. The live music was a real treat and unexpected!

Awesome pub and cigar bar downstairs. Too many junkies and meth heads outside that will break into your vehicles. Portland us to be awesome when they had politicians that cared about the businesses.

We had the Shepherd's Pie. Excellent. It is reasonable priced and the service was good at the time we were there - mid afternoon.

My wife and I love to come into Kells. They have two locations in Portland and there are only 20 blocks separating them. The best location is the original near the waterfront on 2nd ave. The building is historic and the atmosphere is exactly what you would want and expect from an irish pub. They make the best nachos using potato skins rather than chips. I love their food almost as much as a good irish beer. The high ceilings have dollar bills secured by magnets as people donate money and the wait staff will toss it up to stick to the ceiling. It's quite a show when they miss and cannot get it to stick. All in good fun. There are a few TV's. Soccer games on TV are big here. People come in for soccer viewing parties. Lots of fun.

Kells is a special Portland spot. They had just taken all the cash off the ceiling and donated it to a local hospital-a very cool tradition there. I had the Irish stew with a Guiness-does not get much better than that. They have live music too and that-especially around St Patrick's Day-adds to the fun atmosphere. For folks visiting Portland for the first time, Kells is a fun spot for lunch or dinner.

An easy walk from our downtown hotel. Quick, friendly service. Good beer and cocktail selection. Food portions were generous and the food was delicious!

This is a real Irish pub with great food, great beers and full bar, music and downstairs cigar smoking area. Great for large or small groups. It's open early and late so makes it a Portland "must see" while visiting.

The red ale was good along with the IPA. Great place for groups and very relaxed. We didn't try the food.

NIce authentic irish bar. good selection of local and international drinks. their own stout is nice and creamy. staff are very friendly. can get packed out at times as its so popular.

One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Live music, great food, and an awesome atmosphere! You can actually taste the alcohol in your drink. And the staff is always very friendly. They can get a little busy but that's because they're amazing! With the wait. Plus they're in the Pearl District so if you want to walk around and take in the nightlife your in the perfect spot.

We enjoyed drinks at Kells Pub. The stout was wonderful and the service was very good. Will definitely go back!

This is just a fun pub! The inside atmosphere puts you right into an Irish mood. The drinks were quick to the table and the food was really good. My husband had the corned beef and cabbage and his plate was spotless. I had the fish and chips which were quite tasty - the fries could've been a bit crisper. My brother-in-law loved the sausage roll. We were there for lunch. I would use caution going in the evening as the area around the pub is a bit "rough." Would definitely recommend and go here again.

I've been to Kells numerous times when visiting Portland on business from Europe. I've been at both the Downtown original and the BrewPub up on 21st. They're both extremely well run, their own beers would stand up to any craft brewery, food tastes homemade and the staff are, as we say in Ireland 'great craic. Brought about 20 work colleagues their recently for food and (too much) drink until the wee hours. Had the pleasure of hearing Danny O' Hanlon playing on stage who helped make it an even more memorable occasion and one which seemed to convert 20 locals to the secret of Kells. Keep up the good work guys.

Hamburger week in Portland means $5.00 gets you a terrific burgers at scores of locations throughout the city. Kelly's was offering a lamb burger. We were expecting a juicy patty with unique sauces and condiments. Sadly, we got a wad of 'lamb hash' filled with big chunks of potatoes on a cold bun. Complete ripoff compared to the other offerings around town. The neighborhood is pretty sketchy after dark. The service is disinterested at best. But the Guinness is real and served properly. So go... Have drinks in an old Irish bar. I can't recommend the food.

It was one of those nights - at the end of vacation - where we just don't know what we want to eat. Portland has a gazillion choices - and we were wondering aimlessly until we saw "Irish Pub." Kell's was a nice choice as we weren't super hungry. My husband had wings (loved them) and I had a delicious Kell's lemonade drink with potato chip nachos with chicken. It was just right. Top it off with super Happy Hour prices and a really friendly Seth Rogen lookalike server and you get 5 big smackers!

We haven't been to Kells in years. The a Groupon came up so it was time to go. We had an enjoyable early Sunday dinner. We parked at an indoor parking lot a block away which Kells gives a $5 credit on your bill when you show your receipt. On a Sunday that basically meant free parking! I had the Shephards Pie (which in Ireland would actually be Cottage Pie, Shephards Pie has lamb, but I prefer beef anyway), my wife had Bangers and Mash, and our adult daughter had Fish and Chips. We all enjoyed our meals. I had a beer flight, followed by a Pint of Kells Irish Red. They were all very good as well. We will come back soon!

We stopped in here for Happy Hour before dinner. Their hummus was the best we've ever had - so tasty! But everything we ordered was great - wings, fries, and entire hummus platter. Our server was constantly checking on us and offered small samples of the beer when we weren't sure what to order.

I am giving Kells Irish pub five stars for their outstanding cigar bar in the basement. I’ve been here twice with colleagues and the atmosphere in the cigar bar is the coolest ever like an old cave with many tables and great ambience. Also, their scotch selection is noteworthy and you rarely see a scotch selection of this caliber. All of the drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. We did have some appetizers which were also very good. Can’t wait to go back to Kells!

I came here for lunch. My mom and I asked them to make us Grilled Cheese sandwiches which weren't on the menu and they accommodated us. It was the best grilled cheese I've ever eaten and their sweet potato fries are great too! Service was wonderful! All around great experience. My mom says, "Ditto!"

First off, no need to make a reservation. Started the Meal with an Irish Spring cocktail consisting of Jameson Irish Whiskey and Lemonade. Chose a very healthy and filling Risotto of Barley, Kale, Mushrooms and Salmon. Delicious.

We just finished dinner and beers at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub. We couldn't have stumbled into a more comfortable and satisfying place. The food was just as advertised ... comfort and very tasty. I had the burger (medium) with tomato bacon ham and sharp Irish cheese. My husband had the the sausage roll with a demi glaze. The Kells beers are the highlight. My husband enjoyed the Kells Irish Stout. I thoroughly enjoyed the Flight O' Irish Beers - Kells Lager, Kells Irish Red Ale, Kells IPA, and Kells Irish Stout. Let's not forget our waiter, Micah, who took great care of us while never making us feel rushed. Only content. Thank you! We'll return soon.

We went here on one of our outings with our couples friends. It was great and I had my first risotto. It was a mushroom risotto and quite tasty. I also had the bangers and mash which was new to me and also quite good. Everyone seemed to enjoy the atmosphere, drinks and food. I suggested a scotch egg to one of the women in our group. She loved it and I am still jealous as I have yet to try one. You can't eat everything out there at once. When we go back I'd get the Shepherd's Pie and the scotch egg. If you like soda bread and authentic Irish cuisine then this is the place to go.

A group of 10 of us went here. All of them enjoyed our evening. I ordered the fish and chips which were OK. Other people or the lamb stew and really enjoyed it. The sausage rolls were the best I have ever eaten. The music was excellent. The bar itself is well decorated. The owner and his wife take care to make sure the customers are happy. I would certainly go ahead again.

My wife and I were hosted by friends from Portland who took us to the Saturday market on the esplanade in Old Town. After strolling around for an hour or so we stopped in at Kells for lunch. I had the traditional Irish lamb stew and my wife had salmon with salad and sweet potato fries. Kells has a fun atmosphere and the server will throw a dart with a dollar bill on it to stick on the ceiling for you.

We started the night off by visiting a couple of other bars; however, I wanted to visit Kells. I made a great decision this was the best bar we visited after a night of pub crawling. The staff was friendly, the band was great and they had a good selection of cigars in the cigar room.

Make sure to seek out Chris behind the bar as makes the visit fun; super food and good selection of beers and music begins at 9pm.

Kells is a nice restaurant in the heart of downtown. We went for a lunch. Nice selection of local beer. Best Fish and Chips I have every had! My husband enjoyed the corned beef meal. Save room for dessert...the Bread Pudding was fantastic and big enough to share.

Stopped in for dinner while in town visiting family. Items nice there is some free off street parking. Nice atmosphere with plenty of tables and a huge fireplace for the cooler nights. Had the irish stew and the ruben The stew was very good's was the soda bread brought with it. The reuben was thick with meat and very good and service was great

This place has a great feel and the food was excellent. I was very impressed with the shepards pie and the beer selection.

Had a couple of issues with our drinks, who serves wine in a pint glass? And the food was bland. Server seemed bored but the manager came over to ask how we were and we explained things weren't great. He listened and told us he'd be back. 15 minutes later he had not returned to offer us anything so we paid and left. He saw us leaving but didn't even come to apologise. Spoiled our last evening in this great city

What an exceptional place. Warm, cozy, lively and great food. We haven't been to Kells in years and decided to drive in for a night in downtown Portland. What a great evening we had. If you are an IPA beer drinker you will certainly want to try the Kells IPA. Yum. We started in the bar with appetizers and drinks. All of the appetizers were excellent. The serving staff took their time and we sat among patrons in this lively bar, completely enjoying ourselves. Some of the customers (sitting in a corner) had brought musical instruments and were playing some fun, lively Irish tunes! For dinner we asked to be moved to the dining room. No problem. Excellent service and they kindly helped us into the dining room. My wife and I ordered Shepherds Pie and Bangers and Mash. Certainly, not too adventurous but it had been a long time since we had had some good, authentic Irish food so we needed to satisfy our "hankering." Next time its going to be either the Lamb Stew or the Corned Beef and Hash. I am planning on going back...soon! My mom is a light eater. All she wanted was a simple garden salad. I felt bad as she ordered because we really wanted her to enjoy the full Irish pub experience. The waiter was excellent and asked her, "would you like us to put a nice piece of salmon or grilled chicken on top of that?" She chose the salmon and for the rest of the evening she picked at it and cooed about how delicious it was. That waiter made my day!!! We will go back. In fact, we will probably head back in the near future. If you find yourself in downtown Portland...consider Kells Irish Pub. It was not expensive, the decor and atmosphere are fun, and the service and food was excellent. Can you believe this review is coming from an Englishman??? Maybe there is some Scottish blood in the family line, somewhere!

Security wouldn't let us in at 1:25am for a last drink. They said they were closing early because it was slow. I even said I was friends with Terry O' Keeffe and the bouncer didn't know who he was??? I pointed out that the open sign was still on (see the picture)and headed to Voodoo for a donut.

We ate here on wild & crazy St. Patrick's Day this year, so wanted to return at a quieter time. I'm glad we did. It has a Irish pubby-old world atmosphere in a grand historic building. That works for me. Spouse ordered the Reuben; I enjoyed the Kell's burger. The beef must be locally sourced--it's so juicy & tasty. We ordered the sweet potatoes fries for a small upcharge & drank 2 flights of 4: IPA, Irish Red, Lager, Stout. Each had a nice finish--not over the top, but satisfying. We like that it's a short walk from the 1st & Oak MAX station--no worries about downtown parking. Service was prompt & friendly.

We were in Portland for one night and walked from our hotel to Kells for a late lunch/early dinner. The option is available to order half size portions, that was great as the smaller size sandwich I ordered was plenty big. They have a smoked salmon sandwich on the menu but I asked if I could swap the smoked salmon for the regular salmon. No problem! And it was delicious! Everyone in our party enjoyed the food and drinks. Also the ceiling is covered with dollar bills. We asked our waiter about it. He said they stick up there with Irish magic and the money is donated to charity. He would demonstrate if we gave him two quarters and a dollar bill. So we did and his first demo worked like "magic" but he had a little trouble on the second try. We did discover the "magic" but will keep it a secret for others to discover!

Me and group coworkers recently went here for lunch and we were not disappointed. All of the food was enjoyed by all and the service was great. We started off with two appetizers, the meatballs and the sausage roll. We all agreed that the sausage roll was the best thing anyone ate for the entire meal and that is saying something since everything was really good. The meatballs were delicious as well. Between our group we also ordered the shepherd’s pie, the corned beef and cabbage, the bangers and mash and the lamb stew. Everyone was raving about what they had ordered so it is hard to say you should order one thing over another, just go for what sounds the best to you. Overall, great food and great service. I will definitely be back to try the other items.

Dropped in for lunch and a few drinks and were not disappointed. We sat outside, which was lovely, and the owner was going around to the tables chatting with customers. We ordered a bunch of apps and all were delicious - especially the Irish nachos. Service was great. Would definitely stop in again.

Saturday Market for crafts and Kells for food make for a great half-day trip to downtown Portland. If you've got to sit down after an hour or two at the market, best do it with a Kells stout or red, a dish of perfect mussels or a squash risotto, or most anything on the menu. Charmingly historic building with waitstaff certainly much happier than warehouse workers of a century ago.

Cool place to check out if you're in town. Great selection of whiskey and they brew their own beers. Their stout was really nice and had just the right amount of malts. Live music was fantastic as well. They also have a cigar section if you're into that but can't speak on it since I didn't have one. Any place with Tullamore Dew is a place for me.

We always stop in at Kells while visiting Portland. Love all there beers especially the stouts. Loved their meatballs but they're no longer on the menu. We had the nachos. They're ok. We had a new server. He was friendly but still catching on. We'll be back!

We were here last night and enjoyed the atmosphere. Lots of good energy, food and drinks. Downstairs is a cigar lounge where you can enjoy a quieter setting. Knowledgeable wait staff presents a wide range of cigars and scotch, dating back 100 years.

Back during graduate school, when we didn't have 2 dimes to rub together, this was a favorite "cheap date." We'd share a gin and tonic and listen to Irish bands. Nowadays when we are in town, we each get not only our own beer, but our meal to boot. Everything is just as excellent as it has ever been. The sweet potato fries are especially nice. Love this place!

We had been going to the Brewery Pub on 21st, but we opted to visit the one on 2nd avenue. It was around 5:30 and there were lots of seats to choose from. It did start filling up pretty fast around 6pm. I ordered the Bangers and Mash and my wife had the Shepherd's Pie. Everything was hot and delicious. Their Kell's branded Irish stout was as good as Guinness in my opinion. Our server was a bit chatty at one of the tables, but we weren't in a hurry, so we just dealt with it. Parking on the street is advised. There is a lot on Pine and 2nd, but it's pretty expensive. The MAX is a couple of blocks away.

Like the title says, Irish pub with a cigar bar. Worth the stop if you like Irish fare but if you don't, there are so many other places around Portland that are better

Beer is real good. Our waiter messed up our order but he made it good. We were not in a hurry. We had a real nice time. The food is better than most bars

We went on a Tuesday evening and it was pretty empty, but the service was friendly and the beer was very good. We didn't dine, though the menu looked pretty good and diverse for an Irish pub.

Shepards pie, corned beef and beer were fantastically yummy. Fun atmosphere, great for after work party

Went there for a business activity during the lunch. The food was good and the setting fits perfectly well for a private event by a group of 50 people. I would recommend to stop by and get some bites.

You will enjoy this Irish Pub. Beer is local, food is very good and it is owned by real Irish folks that have another location near the market in Seattle. Easy walk from the Embassy Suites on Pine street.

On a recent trip to Portland, we happened to walk into Kells, and were blow away by the food and the beer. The lamb stew was exactly spot on. I compared their stout to a Guiness, and sure wish I lived in Portland because I can Guiness anywhere else. I will re-visit when I get back to Porland, for sure.

We stopped over in Portland on our way to a further destination and decided to grab a bite of late lunch at Kells. I ordered a garden salad and my dining partner a bowl of clam chowder. While the chowder was tasty and full of seafood morsels, the salad appeared to be a standard "bag-o-salad" that had seen better days. Really folks, in the peak of summer? Maybe we expected too much, maybe not. Returning to this establish is likely to be a not again. If all you are looking for is a beer to parch your thirst, it's the place; salad or other fresh related fare, look elsewhere.

I was recently in Portland with a group from work and my boss insisted we all go here for dinner one night (she'd been here before). I don't drink so the appeal of the spirits selection was lost on me, but the food was absolutely delicious. I had the steamed mussels, which were served in a rich creamy sauce with a side of some of the best garlic bread I've ever had, and I couldn't get enough. Our group also couldn't decide what to have for dessert so we ordered one of each dessert on the menu and shared them. The bread pudding was by far my favorite—the one and only time I'd had bread pudding previously, I wasn't a huge fan, but this was the real thing and it was so tasty! The place was pretty loud, which I didn't care for, but the food made up for it.

It's been many years since my rowdy 20's of hanging out here and drinking good beers and listening to good music. We stopped in for a date night and were pleasantly surprised. The service was spot on and the food was tight. Wife had risotto and it was spot on with a nice blend with kale for texture and more color. I had the burger and it was also really tasty and only $10 for what tasted to be premium beef. We upgraded the fries to sweet potato fries and they were crispy and a generous serving. Overall a very positive experience!

After having a long and annoying day we escaped into Kells to have a drink or six and maybe some food. Zach (with an H!) the bartender was a bit too handsome and so that led us to having MORE drinks as we sat at the bar. Decent beer, decent food... we'd go back but not make a special trip to do so. It was good.

We went as a member of our group had gone for drinks the night before and listened to the Irish Band. We went to lunch, it was crowded. Service was Ok and so was the food. My wife had the Irish stew and thought the meat a bit lacking. Fish and Chips and bangers and mash, all good not great.
Best traditional Irish Pub in Downtown Portland
This place is what you would expect an Irish pub to be. It might be on the touristic side but it does the trick. They have live bands all week long. The Irish Coffee are excellent.
