They know how to cook a steak!

By Dennis M |

I have always been a huge fan of an old style steakhouse over in Buckhead.....but I became a huge fan of Rathbun's when I was guaranteed the best steak in ATLANTA by a buddy. I like my ribeye charred, medium rare with extra seasoning....some like to call it Pittsburgh style....it should be renamed to Rathbun style! I get the chance to eat at some swanky steakhouse across the country and this place put the show on for the best ribeye I had in 2016! Service was great, wine list is fantastic, food is amazing and then if you like to finish it all off with some Whiskey or Scotch - you will not go wrong!

Always Amazing Experience

By Influencer |

This is my go to place when I want guaranteed great service, food and overall experience. Kevin Rathbun Steak never disappoints. They have some of the friendliest and knowledgeable bartenders I know. Seafood tower never disappoints. Eating by the fire outside or at the bar are our favorites.

excellent service ,greta steak !

Best Steakhouse Anywhere

By gracefuljoy |

We always make reservations to go to Kevin Rathbun Steak anytime we go to Atlanta. The atmosphere is comfortable but luxurious and the food is just incredible. We always get the grilled bacon for an appetizer, then we have the best steak you can possibly imagine with twice baked potatos, and we always save room for the bon bons for dessert. It is my husband’s favorite restaurant in the world.

Good Steak

By Richard M |

We enjoyed our dinner at Kevin Rathbun Steak. While not an exceptional 5-star experience, KR proved to be a solid 4-star alternative. Here are the details: Appetizers - “Thick Cut” Bacon (A): Thick, flavorful, and delectable Yaya’s Eggplant Fries (A): Very creative. Powdered sugar covered eggplant fries, dipped in hot sauce Chilled Seafood - Oysters on the Half Shell (C+): Nothing special; below average Steak - Dry-Aged Porterhouse for 2 (A-): Quite juicy and tender Filet Mignon (B+): Good but I’ve had better Sides: Charred Jalapeño Creamed Corn (B-): A bit to runny for me. Not particularly flavorful Truffle Parmesan Fries (A-): While I prefer thicker fries, these were quite good; light and fluffy with a crunchy exterior Dessert Crème Brule (A): Top notch Service (A): Very friendly and attentive Before tipping, we spent $319 on a meal for three (2 appetizers, 3 entrées, 2 sides, 1 dessert, 1 mocktail, no alcohol, only water).

Best Steak in Town!

By Jim M |

This is one of the best steak houses I have gone to. I had a wonderful New York Strip, perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. Wonderful wine and liquor list, A must if you like steak! Service was also outstanding.

5 Star Rating for More Than Steak

By Rob P |

This is fine dining and it is costly. But if you want the best service and food then this is the place. Much more on the menu than steak. Great appetizers. Waiter was excellent at explaining the choices and “aged” meat. Great wine and drink selection. Need I say more. Try to get a 5:30 pm or right when they open reservation. Cigars and Cognac outside after the meal.

Cold food and thoughtless Service

By pepijef |

Wow. What a disappointment. Party of 15 tonight. It took over 10 minutes to plate all of us. First bite of my filet was cold. Plate was cold (they warned of plate being hot). Steak was medium rare but cold. 6 of us had the M R steaks and all were cold but only three of us sent them back. The others were too polite so they suffered with cold steaks. Ten minutes later we had new steaks that were hot and cook well. But when they took our cold steaks they took our side dishes. The replacements had no sides and what was left on table were cold. Desserts were just okay.

Best steak house

Absolute fantastic restaurant. Best steaks i had in a long time. Also fantastic wine list. If you want good value for money and like to have an upscale night out... go there!

Pretty good

By Bunnierobert |

Visited steakhouses all throughout this country. This place does not compare to a traditional Chicago or Dallas steakhouse. Service is professional but that is it. Ordered 8oz prime strip medium Oscar style and scalloped sweet potatoes. Took 45+ mins to arrive at bar (single seating). The menu is specific as how to order the steak so I was expecting it to be cooked to order. missed the mark by one level to rare. First bite into a grizzle edge. Second bite same. Overall, a little tough for a prime steak. Crab on top, shredded and slightly fishy smell. Last bite of steak was grizzle. Asparagus was grilled and were inconsistently cooked. Scalloped Sweet potatoes were actually the star of the dinner. Had a bottle of Pellegrino next to me for evening and server/bar tender never once filled my glass. He was very pleasant but not working hard. It’s a nice place but let’s not refer to it as a steakhouse.

This is legitimately the best steak I have ever had in my life.

By Mackensie R |

The steak was cooked and seared to perfection. I had the broccoli with cheese as my side and it was absolutely wonderful. A dinner for two with one appetizer was about 108 dollars and we tipped quite well.

A very top notch joint

Here is top quality in both innovative food that is beautifully presented and very, very fresh, Chef Kevin is top notch and a real pro

Birthday Dinner

By Warren K |

This is a great restaurant for business & special occasions. Located on the Beltline with valet parking, this is one of Atlanta’s best steak & seafood eateries. Our waiter was really great. Very attentive & had suggestions about his & customers favorite picks on the menu. I had dover sole dish. My friend had ribeye & scallops. We shared brussel sprouts & sauted spinach. Baked Alaska for dessert. Everything was perfect!

One of the best culinary experiences of my life

By The Irish Samoan |

***Atmosphere*** Dark, romantic, perfect for a date night for two or a group celebration. There are a few different rooms and I personally love the booths on the right side walking in. Fantastic location right by Krog Street Market as well. ***Food*** Maybe the best steak I've ever had, certainly on par or better than Bones, Atlas, or Chops. Our server had the great suggestion of splitting a steak between my girlfriend and me, and then getting the scallops as an add-on. Great choice because the scallops were absolutely incredible. We had oysters and the Ahi Tuna Poke - the latter of which was one of which as good as any Poke anywhere. ***Service*** I hate that I can't remember our server's name but he was as good as it gets. Personable, vey knowledgable about the wine list, great menu suggestions - made us feel like we were royalty. Along with the food and the ambiance, the service was impeccable.

Great evening!

By Dick S |

My wife & I went for drinks/light dinner on a Saturday nite; planned to sit at the bar since we didn't have reservations. The bartender ( I think was Irv?) was great and helped make it a great evening. He knew the wines very well and directed my wife to a really nice well-priced white. We had planned to just share some appetizers, but also ended up sharing the Steak Dianne. The apps were terrific (fried lobster particularly). Surprisingly the steak was not a good cut..Too much fat and some gristle..and it was overcooked (no pink and it was supposed to be medium rare) but, the sauce and flavor was delicious. Irv(?) was embarrassed by the steak condition and it was immediately comped without me asking. The bar atmosphere was lively and fun, like a good party. Definitely will be back. We have to give their steaks another try, as we've heard nothing but good things about them.

Amazing!

By Christina H |

A few friends have been talking about this restaurant, so we decided it was time check it out. From the moment of entry to departure… can’t say anything bad about our experience. Our waitress-Emily-was amazing! She knew the menu and items very well and was able to suggest drinks to accommodate. Our water glasses never went under a sip or two. Service and food was impeccable. And Kevin Rathbun was even there!

An excellent way to enjoy your evening ~

By A_V_Wedding_Lady |

We went for our daughter’s birthday. The parking is easy, valet. We were shown to our seats promptly. The seating in the restaurant allowed plenty of space between the chairs, there was no scooting by because the chairs were too close or touching somebody else because the tables were too close. We were very comfortable. Our server Ron was the best. he was a fountain of information about the menu. Everything we tried was delicious. We will return again~

Best steakhouse ever!

By Mary |

We went to Atlanta just to go to this steakhouse for the birthday celebration for my son and I. Tony C was our server and he was great! Steaks here are the best we've ever eaten. You will not be disappointed.

Birthday Dinner

By StevieB52 |

We drove to Atlanta from Chattanooga to have a Birthday dinner with one of our sons. He chose Kevin Rathbun’s, and we were thrilled because we have been wanting to try it out for some time. We were seated promptly when we arrived for our reservation, and our server immediately brought Pellegrino and warm bread. We tried the fried eggplant with its “set you on fire” sauce which was wonderful. Our filets and NY strip steaks were cooked perfectly, and they were delicious. We shared sides of onion rings, garlic spinach and creamed corn with jalapeños. Everything was excellent. Black Forest Cheesecake was the perfect ending. Our server, Kyle, could not have been any better. He was very cordial and informative, and he helped make the evening even more enjoyable.

Great modern steakhouse

By dawgtrooper |

We had casual dinner for 4 and sat downstairs in the "wine vault" which was great because the main level can be a little loud. The steaks were excellent as were the sides. Wine list had a lot of options at a bunch of price points. You'll spend some money here but I left happy and full.

You must go!

By travelingkate2017 |

What a great experience! Wonderful appetizers (highly recommend the bacon!), perfectly prepared steaks, scrumptious sides, and excellent atmosphere. It was perfect!!!

One of the best filets ever!

By Eric A |

My third trip to this Restuarant and I was once again delighted with the menu, service and the ambiance. One of the best filets I've ever had and the sides are shareable delights. I would definitely recommend Rathbun's for either a business meal or date night.

Not nearly as good as expected

By David F |

I will say the atmosphere, greeting and service was good in all respects. If I were rating this restaurant only on these items, I would certainly give it a 5. Unfortunately, there is food to be rated as well, and with that said, I give the restaurant a 3. We were a party of 4 tonight and ordered various items including appetizers, salads and different main courses. Of the appetizers, the escargot was mediocre as was the venison carpaccio. The Tuna poke was excellent. The salads were fine, but for a steak restaurant, the steak Diane was totally unacceptable. Two of our party ordered this entree and both were not of the quality they expected. The beef was very thin and cut in half to make it look larger on the plate. There was absolutely NO flavor at all of the sauce and an unacceptable amount of fat on the meat. I had the seared Ahi Tuna which I thought was quite good and another of us had the Salmon.....mediocre again. I cannot recommend this restaurant for anything except atmosphere, good cocktails and wine. Perhaps the more expensive beef options were better but I do believe ALL main course meals should be great, or not placed on the menu.

Delicious !

By Jérôme V |

Amuse bouche wagyu beef exquisite ! The salmon was perfectly cooked, moisty. The gratin of sweet potato great ! Excellent place for a business dinner.

Lived up to the reputation

By Arthur P |

Both the ambience and food were very good. The quality of the offerings and care in plating was evident and appreciated. This long-standing restaurant is noted for its quality and on this occasion it certainly did not disappoint. Our efficient server was friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back.

So many choices

By TBMutiny |

Even though the name Rathbun Steak says steak, don't let that fool you. I am not a huge red meat eater but I found the menu to be loaded with additional seafood options: salmon, lobster, scallops, King Crab and more. We ordered the escargot and seafood tower as an appetizer and were not disappointed. The tower had a half dozen raw oysters from the New England Atlantic coast as well as a lobster tail and King Crab. In addition, the standard dips of butter, cocktail sauce, horseradish and Tabasco sauce were present. My main dish of 5 beautiful, large scallops was presented in a dish with a green tomatillo sauce that was the perfect accompaniment. The scallops were delicious and tender. My only problem is that there is too few light to read the menu.

Superlative Service and Cuisine

By Elizabeth M |

Everything about our experience left me impressed with this rustic, modern, five star restaurant. An excellent wine list accompanied the variety of mouth-watering steaks. Special orders? No problem. The server provided exemplary service, and made the evening memorable as well as hassle free. I highly recommend this restaurant - they are doing things the right way, and in an exceptional manner.

Fathers Day

By Carl R |

We were taken there by our daughter, the atmosphere was fabulous and the food was good. Great business plan i must say, when you get a t bone 20 plus ounce steak for 3, and charge 130 bucks. We each got about 3 pieces 2x2 of with way too much burn rather than Char. While you expect 100 plus per person, you kinda expect the whole steak. Personally not my taste but our daughter loves this place so I split the difference and gave a 3. Just my opinion here but not a fan.

One of the best meals in the US

By Jim L |

One of our holiday traditions is gathering a small group of friends at a premiere restaurant. Kevin Rathbun Steak time!! We went overboard ordering and were spoiled all the way with an incredible array of apps. Bacon that was about half an inch thick, with a yummy sriracha and molasses sauce. Next, we had Japanese BBQ Wagyu short ribs in a pineapple Yakiniku Glaze, Miso Aioli sauce. YOW! These were followed by Lobster Fritters with a light lemon zest honey mustard sauce that knocked our sox off . Moving on to another bottle of Cab, we prepared for the beef parade. All but one of us went with various cuts of beef. Aged, dried, thick, exuberant and juicy, flavorful and all perfectly cooked; we spanned the horizon: Rib Eye, Filet, NY Strip and a new one to us—Wagyu shell steak. These were all enhanced with a wide selection of sharing sides: garlic mashed potatoes, mac and cheese with truffle oil, crusty Brussel sprouts, charred jalapeno creamed corn and, of course creamed spinach. As we were all finishing up and chasing the last few bites with the various sauces, even the Scallop girl needed a tasting portion of the beef and dove in with gusto. What else to do but finish with coffee and have an after-dinner drink…. And a shared a Basque chocolate cheesecake with citrus cream and crispy meringues. Special thanks to Chef Chalmers Stewart who visited our table to talk food and seek our opinion. We all agreed in unison: excellent, indeed!

6th Anniversary dinner date

By Jeztrsgrl |

Booked a table for dinner for our 6th anniversary. booking was easy and accommodating. Valet parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside and were very impressed with the interior... lighting is low and set perfect for intimate dining. Service and Wait staff was perfection - knowledgeable, offered advice on the menu and drinks as well as desert. Dry age steak was absolutely scrumptious, Salmon dinner was beautiful and buttery. If you get a chance, walk around inside... the art and design of this place is fabulous. If you eat outside on the patio, you can enjoy plenty of people watching since the Atlanta BeltLine runs adjacent to the property. Great spot for awesome food - whether it be a date night, business dinner, friends dates or even going alone. If you are in Atlanta, make sure you put this on your foodie destination list

Terrific service and food

By garmuse |

We were a party of 4. The waiter had been there from the beginning 10 years ago. He knew every dish like he prepared it himself. The atmosphere is as good as it gets. Terrific design, warm, appropriately lighted, acoustically done where you can have a conversation yet the noise level was high enough to know people were enjoying the evening.

Amazing in all aspects

By ttbryan1 |

We had reservations for 8 people on a Saturday evening at 8 pm, celebrating the birthday of a friend. Unfortunately, it was during the Lantern Parade, so parking and getting to the restaurant was trying, but a special occasion. We showed up on time and waited about 10 minutes for our table, mainly due to the restaurant being extremely busy. We were seated in the side dining room and the decor is very chic and inviting. The server immediately waited us and got our drink orders. We had a couple of bottles of Pinot Noir, which were great. Then, for appetizers we had the Escargot (good) and Meatballs (Excellent). For dinner, I had the Ribeye Burger with a twice baked potato. Both were so amazing. The burger is a huge portion and I would not recommend it for someone who cannot eat much. However, the ribeye was so delicious, not only for me but others in the party. For dessert, they brought out a cookie sandwich with a candle to celebrate the birthday boy, which was very nice and and a great added touch. Our server was excellent and completely on top on everything. He even allowed us all to separate our bills, which can generally be an issue with larger groups. This place is not cheap, but not so expensive you cannot afford it. This is a great place for small party or romantic dinner. We had an amazing experience from start to finish with the food being amazing.

Good times

By Simon G |

Business colleagues hosted me for dinner at Kevin Rathbun Steak, from arrival to departure the experience was top notch. The staff was courteous, efficient and professional. Very extensive wine selection and all the high end spirits and beer are available. Now the food, you really can’t go wrong with any steak here. I had the bone in dry aged Cowboy Ribeye. Well worth the splurge, the sides are for sharing. The real reason your here is for the steak. Everyone at our table enjoyed their steak from filet minion to NY Strip. I recommend this restaurant for a all around great meal and drinks with business colleagues or date night.

Loved it

By Todd P |

Upscale restaurant along a bike path in an up and coming neighborhood just two miles from downtown. Recommend for special occasions or business meal where you’re aiming to please. Steaks are aged and prepared to perfection. We had some kind of corn chowder appetizer and steak. They didn’t have garlic mashed in the menu but made it at our request. Sweet old style bar and plenty of brands of wood casked liquor. Went to their sister restaurant up the street the next night. Love it.

Below average Atlanta steakhouse

By LBSRQ |

Attended a group dinner at KR Steak. I remember the food being of much better quality during a previous visit. The Caesar salad was nothing special, sides were bland and overly salty, and the rib eye was very poor quality. There are much better choices in ATL in this price range.

Top notch

By C W |

Food and service were excellent. Our waiter made great suggestions for drinks and appetizers. We chose the restaurant without much review and it was a delightful surprise. A little pricey as noted. Great pick for a casual special occasion on weekdays.

Great filet

By A2345FUjohnl |

After 2 weeks traveling in Asia I was ready for a good steak. I picked Kevin Rathbun as the reviews looked good and it was fairly close to the Marta Line about a 20 minute walk. I do not usually order a filet as they are often too dry for me but the rib eye looked like more than I was ready for tonight 20 oz. The filet was nice and juicy and the perfect temperature. I also had the mushroom risotto which went well with the filet. I would definitely return the next time I am in Atlanta.

Outstanding dry aged steak for 2

By Tony G |

Best in every way. Service was outstanding. Wine list is superb. Enough said. A wonder dining experience.

Wonderful meal

This was a great dining experience. Two perfectly grilled steaks and tasty sides. Added a nice wine. Our server was top notch and the sommelier checked with us twice. Highly recommended.

New head chef and overcooked steaks, service is slow

By Traveling4Change |

My steak ordered medium rare came out medium and the Oscar was so fishy I couldn't eat it. We didn't finish our filets because they were chewy *3 of them) In my opinion, a filet mignon should be tender but maybe it's because 2 were overcooked. Also we were charged for 2 Oscar's but only got one. The waitress said the head chef had just quit and moved to Vegas so they scrambled for a replacement. I don't remember the last time my steak was overcooked anywhere and no one asked us if they were correct. Also when they brought them out, they didn't say which was which.

Great service, mediocre food...

By Victor M |

We've not been here in a while and went with some colleagues the other night for dinner. Fro a Tuesday night, the place was jammed. Everyone seemed to like their appetizers and salads, but steaks were just mediocre. Some ordered filets, some ribeyes. They all looked the same. Even the staff was confused. Sides were uninspired--especially the mac and cheese. For dessert--the creme brulee was among the worst I've ever had. Service was excellent and wines were wonderful--but largely because they were selected by our knowledgeable host. The next day my spouse spoke to several others who dined with us and they all felt the same.

Great steak

By SteveMatthewP |

Six in our party. Most of us went with the special which was the 10oz spinalis ribeye. It was one of the best tasting steaks that I’ve had. The sides were good too. Great service as well. I would gladly come back.

Fantastic all around

By JRJ |

I can’t say enough about this place. From the moment you enter, the experience is great. The staff is attentive and the food is just as wonderful. We had the cowboy ribeye, seared ahi tuna and a few side dishes along with a few cocktails. To top it off, we finished with a delicious crème brûlée. Highly recommend giving this place a shot for a special treat.

Disappointed

By Tony V |

Have been to this restaurant many times and had perfect food and service. The last visit was a total disappointment. Very loud, had to use my cell phone light to read menu. Service was poor, given steak before salad. Steak was cold. Ordered a class of house Merlot and was told they only sell by the bottle. They lost two customers.

Excellent food and exceptional service

By jamesphillips2017 |

My wife and I dined here during a trip to a marriage conference. The atmosphere is perfect for date night. The food is excellent and the service was exceptional. We will be returning soon.

One of the top 4 steakhouses in Atlanta

By Kim D |

I find it difficult to pick from what I feel are the top 4 steakhouses in Atlanta. Competition is fierce and they’re all great. Just went back to Kevin Rathbun’s Steak. Pricey but well worth the money. If you’ve never had Spinalis (rib eye cap), and you’re a steak lover, it’s the best you can get. Heavily marbled and flavorful. The ambience is great and they have a great bar. Can’t go wrong here. Reserve well in advance!

Fantastic steak and top notch service

By Michael K |

We went for my wife's birthday just last night and it was amazing! The dry aged steak for two practically melts in your mouth and the lobster Mac and cheese could be an entree all by itself its so good. They helped us pick an excellent Spanish wine to pair with the steak and the free birthday dessert was a great capper. We don't do a lot of fine dining, but when we do this place will again be at the top of the list for us.

Excellent birthday dinner for three!

By Martin W |

This was our first time eating at Kevin Rathbun Steak, and we were celebrating two birthdays. The service was excellent, and the wait staff took time to explain the menus, specials and desserts. We started with the lobster fritters, lightly fried in a tempura style in a sauce with a citrusy, tangy finish. It was the perfect way to start the meal. For the entree, my wife and I had the dry aged Porterhouse for two, cooked to medium and served with garlic butter and a pan sauce, which is one of the best steaks I've paid for--delectable with a strong flavor that made you crave more. I liked the strip portion a little more than the filet, because the extra fat have more beefy flavor. That should not imply that the filet wasn't delicious as well, tether and succulent. Our niece had the prime burger and fries--she liked it, but could not finish the kids size burger, so we packed it up. For sides we chose broccoli with "government cheese," and scalloped white and sweet potatoes au gratin, both excellent as well. For our desserts, my wife chose dulce de leche ice cream, while my niece chose creme brulee with a chocolate cookie. Both were great, but I think I had the best choice: cinnamon bun bread pudding with candied apples and vanilla ice cream. After the meal we rolled ourselves to the car! We'll certainly be returning.

Top notch service

By 2happi |

Elegant upscale restaurant with excellent servers and best steaks in town! Gretchen is the best server. We don't mind paying for excellence and that is what this place is all about! Had the strawberry salad, pork chop, bacon, mashed potatoes, ice cream. A must return for sure!

Saltfest

By Betty C |

Beautiful restaurant. The staff is very friendly. However, if I am going to shell out 80-100 bucks for a piece of beef, I would like to actually taste the meat. We felt like we were licking a saltblock. And it did not help that they mixed up the requested cook temp and cooked the filet medium and the ribeye rare. This is the second "meh" experience at Rathbun's Steak. The first year they opened...they actually brought out 2 Kansas City bone in steaks and one was half the size of the other and full of gristle. When we asked about this...we were told "it was the last one we had". So what? You decided to send this thing out and charge 70 dollars anyway? Naaaa...pass. We will hit New York Prime or Bones next time.

Great Date Night

By amber128 |

My husband and I ate here last night for the first time. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night and the service was really great. The food was tasty and I get that it's a high-end Steak House, but I felt like I have eaten better food elsewhere for much more reasonable prices. It's like you're paying just to be there and the food takes a backseat. Not that the food wasn't good, but to me our side dishes blew my main dish out of the water (I had the Dover Sole and it was extremely herbal tasting and the beans in it soaked up all of the flavor. You could substitute the fish for tofu and it wouldn't have changed the dish). The jalapeno corn was absolutely delicious. My husband loved everything he had though.

So so disappointing!

By ShawnMartinATL |

So so disappointing considering the table check was nearly $700 even with us supplying the wine. We had been hearing about this restaurant for quite some time from our best friend who typically holds a lot of work dinners there...I decided to book a reservation for 6 on Feb 9, 1987 at 9pm for my spouses birthday. I don't know if this had any bearing in our service but between the party we did bring (2) bottle of Beaux Freres Pinot and (2) bottles of Palmaz Brasa Cabernet. We asked for the server to please open and decant the bottles so they would have time to breath..After the waters came he opened the bottles and let them sit on the table...I then had to prompt him to actually decant the bottles so they would be ready to drink for dinner....After decanting he took our appetizer and salad course order of (2) orders of lobster fritters and various cobb salads...At this point other than having to prompt him on how to properly decant the wine, service was great but unfortunately after ordering these courses everything went down hill. Our appetizer course course came out within a very reasonable time with the salad course following it about 15-20 minutes later delivered by someone else other than our server...So at this point we had not seen our server since we placed the first order probably around 30 minutes earlier....This is where the service tanked. We had to pour our own wine almost the entire night, which is absolutely unacceptable considering we were paying a $20 corkage fee per bottle. Then after having the salad course delivered and waiting at least 20-30 minutes we literally had to get up and go ask another server to have our waiter come to our table so we could place our entree course order. Once he came back to the table he "thanked us" for our patience but regardless there is no time at this level of restaurant that a patron should be expected to serve their own table or have to ask other servers to get assistance. After placing our entree orders they arrived about 25 minutes later which is very reasonable...However when our steak for (2) arrived it was highly under cooked from the temperature we ordered. We placed a medium to medium rare order and it was delivered very rare/blue, ultimately the server had to return it to to the kitchen to bring it up to proper temperature. Other than the temperature issue with the steak the overall "food" experience was above average in regards to taste & quality. Unfortunately in regards to the general table service, specifically our waiter and not the "busing" staff it feel absolute flat as well. For this level of restaurant and for the experience we paid for I feel that other than the food we could have received better service at the local IHOP. I would consider ourselves well traveled and we have eaten at many Michelin rated restaurants and other fine steakhouses and I can easily say this is the worse experience I have received from such an establishment. Unfortunately at this point there is no way I could conscientiously recommend Kevin Rathbun Steak to any friends or colleagues and I definitely wouldn't return because there seemed to be no concern at all last night from the waiter or staff about the experience which is unfortunate!

Our Favorite Place in Atlanta

By gracefuljoy |

Kevin Rathbun Steak is our go-to restaurant in Atlanta. It may be on the pricier side, but the incredible food and fantastic service makes this experience well worth the cost. We love the grilled bacon and wagyu short ribs for appetizers (my husband calls the short ribs “meat lollipops”). The filets are amazing (our kids enjoy the filets and the cheeseburgers), the sides are great, and we always save room for the bon bons! Outstanding!!!

Great Meal

By Chris |

The atmosphere was buzzing when we arrived. It was packed out!! Was pretty dark and hard to read the menu however The starters were excellent and the steaks were cooked to perfection. The truffle butter was a star 🌟. All the sides were also good. Had a good selection of wines too. Our waitress Valerie was superb!! She was so attentive and nothing was too much trouble for her. We all had a good night.

excellent

Perfect Anniversary Experience!

By Becky B |

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary here. After our amazing dinner, it will become our annual tradition! The service, food and ambiance were exceptional. We each had steak and both agree it was some of the best we have ever eaten. The sweet potato gratin is amazing. If you're considering this restaurant, you won't regret a visit!

Y'all bring your platinum card.

A collegue was leaving for new adventures so a celebration was in order. Rathbun Steak house was his choice for the evening. Like most of the new restaurants in the ATL this was very dark. I guess it is the mood lighting out her. We ordered cocktails and the waitress promptly served us. We also ordered apps. The calamari was really good and the smoked salmon was tasty as well. For the entrée I had the grouper which was moist and flaky and didn't smell "fishy." My wife had the tuna which I tasted and I thought it was good but not to die for or anything like that.. The other members of our party ordered steak and they enjoyed it, but they did say it was a tad bit salty We ordered an assortment of sides. Some of them such as the broccolini was outstanding, the onion rings not so much. We also ordered a trio of deserts. They were good but again not outstanding. Some were too sweet for my taste. We ordered a bottle of wine, but either there wasn't a sommelier or he did not come to our table. For this type of restaurant I expected that. The bill for 5 including drinks, a bottle of wine, a couple of apps, desert and entrees was nearly $700.00 before tip. I wasn't disappoint with the food, but for that amount I expected to be blown away and have a dining experience. I have been to better restaurants in the city and in other cities. I have rated Rathbun's as average but I will say it is more of a B+ than a C grade. I wouldn't go back again expect for drinks.

Our $108 steak smelled rancid, tasted terrible.

We used to LOVE this place. A special-occasion restaurant for a once-a-year splurge on amazing dry-aged steak and a great wine list. We’ve taken friends and family, too, after raving about it. Then, we went last night for outdoor patio pandemic dining. All of our previous great feelings about this place went out the window. It started great, from making the reservation with incredibly friendly phone service, to wonderful hosts, to a solid server, and excellent help from an expert picking a wine. (We went with an $85 French bottle - we honestly considered this crazy deal of one that was $185, a cab marked a major special that’s usually $385 or something. So glad we didn’t) My boyfriend’s cocktail to start the meal was fab. The softshell crab was good but over fried. That’s ok - we were there for the star - STEAK. We ordered, as usual, the dry-aged steak for two. It was $108. We don’t mind spending this for amazing food and service once in a while. But this steak arrived on the table smelling rancid. I figured I had to be wrong - this upscale restaurant wouldn’t serve me meat that smelled as if it had turned. Another red flag - we ordered medium rare, but it was cold red in the center. At this point I’m panicking. I do not want to be THAT person who sent back steak. My boyfriend is eating it. I take a bite and it’s BAD. The only edible part is the crusted part. I eat a few bits around it and hand my boyfriend the centers. I’m usually INHALING this steak. Finally I take a true big bite. It’s so bad I have to spit it in my napkin. The smell of the steak is making me sick. My boyfriend hates to send stuff back or complain - he’s still eating it. Finally he, too, stops. He keeps moving the plate away from me for the smell. Finally a server comes by and asks about it, again. I manage to say something, I don’t even know what, about the steak being bad. I’m red and embarrassed. He takes it away. He mutters something like “it happens with dry-aged sometimes” ?? I eat the tomato burrata salad and drink wine. A manager who’d been so nice to us earlier comes by and says: “I’m sorry the steak was too strong for you. It won’t be on your bill.” TOO STRONG FOR US? This was not a situation where we were wrong or got a dish we just didn’t care for. Rancid meat that is cold and smells/tastes musty and milky - that’s meat that has turned. Period. I was so embarrassed. I couldn’t get out fast enough. The waiter asked if we wanted anything else. Like to order? They weren’t going to bring us a better steak or try to make it right I guess. Waiter also dropped a dessert menu. No thanks. At this point chef Kevin Rathbun is making rounds of tables on our side of the patio. He skipped right by us. That really hurt. We aren’t jerks. We’d have asked/explained about what happened. I wish he’d tried to make it right. We love his restaurants and go to lots of fine dining establishments in atlanta. This has never happened elsewhere. (Once I had a bad experience at Tiny Lou’s, and the managers couldn’t have been better about making things right.) We got our bill. $160+ for crab, a tomato dish, wine. We paid it with gift cards we’d been saving from family for a nice night out. We left. This experience completely soured me on the restaurant. Not just because of the food issue, but because of how it was handled. We aren’t VIP high-rolling customers who visit weekly. But we were loyal. We loved it there. We told friends and family. I’ve been probably 8-9 times over the 7 years I’ve lived here. It’s heartbreaking to have this experience and leave this way.

Excellent Food and service!

By DJL930004 |

We ate at Rathbun's on Saturday night, July 1. We ordered an appetizer of lobster fritters and they were excellent! Cooked to perfection, tasty not chewy and just the right amount of batter. My husband had a bone in ribeye and I had a bone in filet for dinner accompanied by the jalapeño cream corn and the scalloped sweet potatoes. The filet, in my opinion, was much tastier than the ribeye. The creamed corn was delicious and flavorful and the scalloped sweet potatoes offered a subtle sweet flavor with the gruyere cheese. We would definitely eat at this restaurant again. Our waiter was prompt, unobtrusive during dinner, but kept our drinks refreshed and offered plenty of excellent suggestions regarding our food choices.

very good, very dark

By Randy G |

I had an excellent meal here recently. Food and service were top notch. Was able to order half orders on salads and sides which is always the way to go and greatly appreciated.. the only negative was for me the place was way too dark. I like to be able to see my food. Otherwise top notch

Pricey and Worth It

By dthomas34 |

First, you have to try the slab bacon appetizer. Second, you have to ask the bartender to create something for you with your favorite alcohol. Third, you have to order some real meat item. If you follow those three easy steps you will be almost guaranteed one of the best nights out you've had!

Delightful Ribeye

By jodilikestotravel |

My family of 6 had a great experience here. Three ordered the ribeye; two ordered the 6 oz filet and my daughter who is not a beef eater ordered the ahi tuna. All were cooked perfectly. Service was immpeccable; our waiter suggested Emblem for our wine and everyone loved it. The sides are served family style so we ordered the mashed potatoes which were average at best. The jalapeno cream corn and braised greens were both different and delicious. We were here for my 50th birthday dinner and it did not disappoint; however this place is pricey but you only turn 50 once right?

Outstanding Dinner

By J.D. |

A most outstanding Dinner - both food & service. The tables were set-up for social distancing & there are partitions between the booths for customer safety. All the staff were wearing masks. Service was very good & the staff was attentive. Personally speaking, I had set my tastes set on a N.Y. Strip (I know there are other/better cuts of meat..but I mentioned this was ordered for personal reasons). Growing up, My parents would take us kids to The Airport Inn Restaurant (no longer around) & they specialized in the N.Y. Strip. So, I've had a lifelong memory of a N.Y, Strip (from only that one restaurant). It had been over 20 years since I've ordered a N.Y. Strip - I felt Kevin Rathbun Steak would be the place to compete with a life long memory of mine. They did not disappoint - My Strip was over 1" thick & it was cooked between medium-rare & medium = perfect. I will be back to try other cuts of meat. The Lobster Tail & Grilled Asparagus were most excellent too. Creme Brulee for dessert totally topped off the dinner.

Don't bother if your there to eat, food is nott done well

Place to be to see and be seen, but if your hungry go somewhere else, not good and ultra small portions

Great Anniversary Dinner at Kevin Rathbun's

By Mark M |

Great atmosphere. Great food. Appetizers were great including lobster fritters and thick cut bacon. Rick provided great service. My wife and I both had the small filet which could not have been better. Sides were great too especially the brussel sprouts. Adjacent to Atlanta Beltline which was nice to walk off a few calories after a great meal. Will definitely be back.

Sadly disappointed

By CarolG4590 |

We went here to eat for our 32nd anniversary. We love going to a very special restaurant for our celebration. Ordered steak, lobster, risotto, mushrooms, and fried okra. Food was really good except our steaks were swapped. We were brought an excellent dessert for our anniversary. However, the service was lacking. Our waiter was nonchalant and certainly not expected in a place with this reputation. Used his crumb catcher and threw the crumbs on the floor. He didn't have that doting service attitude that is expected for a meal of this price. Sadly, we won't go back there.

Dry Aged

By Ewellons |

The setting is nice with a dark modern feel. The seafood tower was delicious but a little bit underwhelming. The dry aged steak was fantastic and made up for any other deficiencies. Also the bon bon dessert was great.

Great, but not outstanding

By Jennifer H |

The food was great, but I truly have had better steaks at other high-end steakhouses. Went here with friends who live in the area at their recommendation. Bar atmosphere was really great and drinks were fantastic.

Great Medium Rare Ribeye

By kjy777 |

I ordered the Ribeye - medium rare. Came out perfect! With the Malbec wine . . . wow! The wait staff were very attentive.

Ambience with taste

By aoct88 |

An unique restaurant amid a midtown affluent neighborhood, this steakhouse has the right mix of quality and ambience for a steakhouse with good choice of wine and menu. The setting is great and the bar is busy. They have many unique items. Reservation advised and one unified valet parking in the area.

Proper steak experience

By Matt Ro |

Been to this place numerous times but never wrote a review and by not doing so felt I was doing it a disservice. I've eaten at tons of steakhouse in the southeast and Midwest and this is right among the best. The apps, the steaks, the sides and the desserts are all top drawer. And the atmosphere is nice and in a very vibrant part of Atlanta. Inman Park area. I see Trip Advisor has this as the 5th best steakhouse in Atlanta and I can't help but think they got that horribly wrong. I would put it at the top just above Hals. Great date night place or business dinner. You will not be disappointed with the food, the service or the ambience.

We will be back!

By CourtneyandScott |

An amazing dinner! A must try! We got a little dressed up for date night but did some people dressed casual. We started with oysters and they were huge! Came to table with crackers, vignette, horseradish and hot sauce - perfect! We shared the steak for 2 and it was delivered! Cooked perfectly with a unique presentation. The sides were fantastic! We loved the brussel sprouts and the sweet potato casserole. Dessert was pretty good but we might try a different one next time. Emilie was our server and she really helped to make it a great experience for us!! Can’t wait to return!

Delicious, amazing service, and worth every penny!

By wrensaver |

I enjoyed our experience so much. We did not have a reservation so we sat at a high top table in the bar. Roxy and Rod were our waitstaff and they were perfectly attentive - not too much, not too little, drinks always full and great senses of humor. We started with the meatballs for an appetizer, drinks and wine, and then I had a bone-in filet, cooked medium plus (love it when I can order it that way and not have to explain), along with grits, jalapeño corn and spinach. The grits were the only thing that were just OK - not enough salt or flavor. I could have eaten three helpings of the jalapeño corn, and the steak was divine. We ended with creme brûlée dessert, butterscotch, which was perfectly done, with the sugar caramelized but not at all burned, which was nice. A proposal rounded out the dessert, so it was a fantastic dinner. :) Go here. It's awesome!

Excellent restaurant - outstanding service

By FAJ |

Had a large business dinner hear in mid July and I must say, dinner and service were very solid. We had a limited menu due to the size of the party but it gave us a chance to sample some of the staples. Ahi poke appetizer was very good. Shrimp cocktail was standard. Shrimp large and fresh. Firm. Salads were average - nothing special. At least the Caesar and the Wedge. Blue cheese dressing was nice. Majority of party either took the filet or the rib eye. Both looked excellent. Nicely prepared. I took the pork chop. Outstanding. Very nicely prepared. Gem. Sides were average. Mashed potatoes were a bit soft. Asparagus was good. Desserts were nice. Key lime cheesecake was a clear winner. Service was excellent. Actually well above average. Good wine list. Grade = A-

Lives up to it's best steak in Atlanta reputation

By Ian C |

Classy establishment, a little dark inside but that just adds to the ambience. Food wise, everything was exceptional. And the thick cut bacon starters were amazing!

Awesome food and service

By l0vethebeach87 |

We dined here during a business trip as a group of 10. From the time we arrived our service was awesome. I am only disappointed that I didn’t recall the servers name. We had a lengthy conversation regarding travel and history and Italy and Europe at the end of the night (we dined on 4-12), so I hope that helps the restaurant recognize his exceptional service. It was truly enjoyable to hear his knowledge of the things we discussed. I always enjoy hearing different perspectives on history and travel experiences. Anyways, with having such a large group everything was brought out in a very timely fashion from drinks to sides and appetizers to the main courses. Myself, I had the ribeye and it was fantastic, what one would hope for at a steakhouse. All the sides were also great. The entire restaurant just had a great vibe to it and we enjoyed being there. Everyone in our group was pleased with our dinner. If I lived in the Atlanta area I’d certainly dine here often. Thank you for the great food and service, and experience. It made the last night of our business trip enjoyable! All the best!

Can’t Get Steak Out of my Head

By Grace |

Amazing. Delicious. This is how a steakhouse is suppose to be! I can’t stop chasing the Pittsburgh medium rare Rib Eye out of my mind. We were there a couple of weeks ago and Ron was our waiter—excellent service—accommodating.

Rathbun is the BEST steak restaurant in ATL, hands down!

By Scott K |

What a night! We got stranded in Atlanta when flying through last week and had been to Rathbun a few times over the years, so we figured we'd make the best of our travel issue. Let me tell you, it was out of this world! We had incredible service, and they were very sweet and accommodating to our 10 year old who has a few food allergies. They made her feel so special, even bringing her a dessert on the house. The ribeye I had was one of the best steaks I've ever had, and we enjoy fine dining regularly. This is a TOP TIER restaurant, from the time you walk, through the entire experience. Thank you Team Rathbun!

Great Birthday Party

By superhumgry |

Went Friday night for a nephews birthday celebration. Had reservations for 14 and were seated right away. Had a variety of appetizers. The ribs and mussels stood out. I had the special spinalis steak and it was easily in the top 10 steaks I have ever had. Tender flavorful and delicious. Others had bone in filet and other steaks, everyone reported great results. Had a variety of sides for the table as well and all came out hot and tasty. Overall a very enjoyable evening.

Earns the hype

By 1965Suisse |

I was delighted when we procured reservations and took some out of town friends to this restaurant. It was packed on a Thursday night but we were shown right to our table, and I was very impressed. In spite of the noise factor in the restaurant (as full restaurants tend to have), we had no problem at all hearing each other. Our table was against a wall, with a banquette on the wall side, and had a lowered ceiling over it, all of which ensured no hearing problems. The waitstaff showed up promptly filling our water glasses and bringing bread; and our waiter, Rick, showed up soon thereafter, as professional as he was delightful, and wonderfully knowledgeable, answering any questions we had. Now, let’s get to the food - the reason we were there. I started off with a grilled sweet gem salad, which was excellent. Unlike anything I have ever had, layered with flavors, all divine. Then my steak arrived, a filet, with bearnaise on the side. Perfect. Absolutely perfect in every way. Cooked exactly as I had hoped and ordered, flavorful beyond belief, nary a chewy part anywhere, all of which added up to delectable perfection. The table ordered garlic spinach, Mac and cheese and mushrooms. I sampled the spinach ... and ended up eating most of it. Just my thing, it was wilted in olive oil, I believe, and had roasted garlic cloves laced in. Superb. We had to forego dessert, being fat and happy as we were ... especially having savored our meal with libations. Again, perfectly concocted drinks, promptly served. Our evening could not have been more delightful, on every level in every way, all of which supported the mountains of hype I have heard about this place. Now I know why. It was worth every penny, even if it required more than a few of them.

The best steak I've ever had

By Case_n_Court |

This was our second trip to Kevin Rathbun Steak. The restaurant is located in a trendy part of town and isn't too hard to find. There is valet as well as lot parking. The atmosphere is upscale, yet relaxed. You would feel comfortable in a jacket and tie and you'd feel comfortable in a pair of nice jeans. The night we visited there was a welcome gift and complimentary glass of wine from a vineyard. I can't complain about free wine! We were seated quickly, we had reservations, and our waiter was pleasant and patient as we mulled over the cocktail options. We landed on two cocktails and the roasted bone marrow for our starter. Our appetizer arrived in a timely manner and we were pleased with it. We were also served a basket of freshly made bread. We both had salads, the wedge and the heirloom tomato, and for our main we had the dry aged steak for two. This is the second time I've had this and it was just as good if not better than the last. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. This steak is a showstopper. I cannot recommend this enough. The steak is cut and served up to you at the table. It is so juicy and tender. I will be thinking about this steak until my next visit. We opted for the o-rings as the side. They were very good, but nothing too unique. Overall, we'll be back again and it won't be soon enough!

Good Choice!

By Fronterizo |

The venue is really beautiful with a history all its own. Rick was our waiter...and sometimes they make the experience truly worthwhile. Well, he did. All our carnivore desires were fulfilled beyond our expectations. My 12 ounce Filet Mignon was cooked perfect at medium rare. We ordered the bon bons for dessert but one of the others asked for the parfait. Her dessert was definitely better. The Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon was also excellent. It was a great, fun evening.

Top choice in Atlanta

By Peter T |

Dined here to celebrate my God children’s 22nd birthday! Atlanta has some really good steak choices, and I’ve been to most. But I believe this is the top choice ! Dry aged Prime! The sides were all perfect! Nice wine selection and not overpriced as some do for this caliber of restaurant. Several of us choose the Rib-Eye special offered Thursday. One of the top 5 steaks I’ve ever had! If you can make a stop here, it is worth your time and money!

Exceptional!

By Nancy V |

Our evening last weekend was Exceptional! The valet was polite and helpful in a torrential rain storm. We were greeted so nicely when we walked into the restaurant. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our waiter introduced himself and gave us time to review the menu after giving us a great spiel on specials and his likes. 4 adults ordered 4 different salads and entrees and we were all thrilled with our selections. Truly a wonderful experience, great food, fabulous service, and an evening that we'll remember due to an Exceptional Restaurant!!

ANNIVERSARY DINNER!

By Michael M |

our first time dining at Rathbun's was amazing! we had heard from several friends that this was their go-to for special dates. From the first step inside to the last bite of dinner, the service, food, and atmosphere were completely amazing. We will definitely recommend this spot to our friends and will be returning sooner than later!

One of the best steaks and deserts I every had

I spent an evening with my girlfriend and her family here. Fantastic steaks, very nice atmosphere and amazing desert is what I liked best. Of course, staff is very professional and kindly.

Exceptional Steak House

By graeme C |

Absolutely fabulous restaurant amazing environment and super atmosphere. Staff excellent and food amazing with excellent choice of appetizers and mains. Would definitely go back when in Atlanta

Good steak

By debbie w |

Service was very good, we sat downstairs where it is a little quieter. Sides were all very good, however the steak and frites I would not recommend, the meat was tough and the sauce made it taste like a roast not a steak. All the other steaks at the table were good.

Great night

By jen Z |

Top notch restaurant! Visited with several of my friends on a college girls reunion trip! The service was top-notch and the food was outstanding. The chopped salad was excellent. I got the scallops for my entree and they also were outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant and would plan to go back when in town again. Be sure to order plenty of sides as they are all amazing!

Best steaks ever!!! Much better than morton's - Ruth's Chris- etc. great atmosphere. Great service. Mouth watering. We go every time we have a chance

Outstanding cuts of beef at expensive prices

By marc.goetschalckx.usa@gmail.com |

Restaurant is next to the beltway and always busy. The various beef dishes on the menu are outstanding. This is not a place to come when on a diet. A "steak for three" shared between two people is just the right portion. Service is good but you feel like just one customer among a constant stream and turnover of tables. Prices are high.

Beautiful restaurant and great atmosphere.

By Robert Hebert |

Great selection of aged steak cuts and seafood with something for all with delicious appetizers and sides to go with your meal. My bone-in filet arrived perfectly done blue as requested and melted in my mouth. Friendly and welcoming staff.

All time favorite

By Kimber S |

Always impeccable service. The food is consistently delicious and we enjoyed cocktails on the patio watching folks stroll by on the BeltLine. This is an all time favorite!

As Good As It Gets

By Whitney S |

Thank you for another wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner. From start to finish the experience and food were exquisite. We were seated on time and promptly offered drinks and the specials. The fritters appetizers were delicious and we appreciated the offer of 1/2 portion salads. For steaks, we both had the 6oz filet; and for sides, we shared macaroni and cheese and creamed spinach. For dessert, we loved the cheesecake with blueberry compote. I know this is a busy weekend, but honestly service did not lack at all. We enjoyed every minute and will certainly return for future special date nights.

Amazing atmosphere and food

By Rob J |

This is a high end steak place that may be hard to find. It is in the back of a building. But oh my it is worth it!!! The steaks here are to die for. We had a 20 oz rib eye and a special ribeye cut not on the menu. It was the top of the rib eye. 10 oz is $60 and well worth it. It was rich and so tender it was like eating butter. The wedge salads are very fresh and comes with amazing bacon. This place need reservations so plan ahead but quite big. Dont miss this one.

Wonderful Steak!

By Randa W |

During a quick business trip to Atlanta, a large group of my coworkers gathered and headed out for dinner looking for a good meal at a local place. We all piled into a Suburban and drove the 15 minutes from Midtown. The steaks were amazing. Everyone's steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. While the sides are extra, there is plenty to share, so order a few for the table. We ended the meal with dessert and that was the best part of the meal for me. I was the only one at the table that ordered the chocolate bread pudding and I wasn't about to share. I'll definitely be back my next visit to Atlanta

A+ food F- service

By AFB21 |

I've candidly never been to a restaurant that had great food, wonderful ambience and a stellar reputation, but at the same time looked after their customer in such a poor manner. Too long of a story, but no taxi was called, they locked the door and we were forced to walk through a very undesirable area barely escaping trouble. The restaurant should be ashamed. (the food was really good)

Good but overpriced !

By Lisa S |

Bones is our normal go to for a steak dinner when we want a special night out. We decided to try KRS since it was a midway point for us and the friends we were meeting. Service was good and food was also quite good. The appetizers we ordered were quite pricey and we exactly one bite per person. I actually had the scallops since I had just had a steak prior to going. My husband had the rare Ahi. He had four small pieces of fish. Both dishes were good! Our friends ordered the filets and had no complaints. Overall it was a nice dinner except that we did feel a bit rushed by our waitress. I understand the desire to turn tables, but for what we paid for dinner, we should not have felt rushed. If you want a very expensive dinner in a crowded restaurant, this is the place for you.

All Was Perfect

By Jim437106 |

This is a rare restaurant that deserves higher than a 5 star rating. I was staying at the Westin Airport and asked the lobby manager where he recommended for a good steak. Without hesitation he said Kevin Rathbun Steak and gave me the directions. I called for a reservation. They were booked but the lady said I could find a place at the bar. The bar was perfect for me as I was a single. The counter was full but there were tables just behind the bar counter. No problem as I had more space. My waiter was outstanding and his assistant was also checking with me. The Wet Spinalis was recommended. This cut was a first for me so I went with the suggestion. It was beyond outstanding. Spinalis is the cap of the ribeye, very marbled, tender like a filet but with all the flavor of a ribeye. It was a 10 oz. piece and cooked perfectly (pink) for me. It might have been the best steak I have eaten in my 52 years of travel and that includes steak houses in Brazil and Argentina. The two glasses of Ehlers Cabernet were also perfect. On the high cost side but I always use a saying that I learned in Vietnam.............it only cost a nickel more to go first class. This wine is not too bold and has a very nice body blending well with an excellent steak. The bar area has a very nice atmosphere and I can see why singles or couples might prefer this area. Very large with many types of liquor and the wine list was also well thought out with a good variety from lower end cost to higher end. It is high tier high priced restaurant but when I walked out the door I felt I got exactly what I paid for.........high tier quality. They also have valet parking. I can't wait until my next trip to Atlanta. Also, keep in mind that they don't have the Spinalis cut every night but I would feel confident in believing that all steaks here are top drawer.

Best Steak I’ve eaten.

By Steven H |

We visited for our 25th anniversary and had a great experience. We arrived early and was able to be seated. The waitress was friendly and helpful. Even acknowledged our anniversary. We ordered the dry-aged steak. Wow! Prepared perfectly. We also enjoyed the onion rings & mashed potatoes. Highly recommend.

Must go

By hrmsandi |

Whenever my husband is with me when visiting Atlanta, we have to go here. He is a steak and potatoes man. The last visit, I wasn't hungry and requested we share a steak and that I wanted only a small portion. It was brought to the table cut into thick slices and served on a small platter, tilted so the juices were easy to spoon over the meat. Just an example of the exceptional service. And of course we go because the food is great.

The noise level in this place is off the charts...

By Anne O |

....we lucked out and our table was downstairs, a bit quieter, but the noise level was like a sports bar, not a $100 per plate steak house. I know people love this place, and it was a good steak and one of the best bees knees cocktails ever. Everything else after that was ho hum. The waitress really couldn't/didn't help with wine selections and we were buy bottles.. the sides were just OK, as were the desserts. Nothing memorable. - not for the $900 we spent on a party of 7.

All Good Except: Impossible to Chew Through Cowboy Ribeyes

By greg r |

We enjoyed everything from the entire night, from service to sides, but our party's $100 cowboy ribeyes were so tough to chew due to all of the gristle and fibers that we literally had to take nearly every bite out of our mouths to break apart. I even had trouble cutting through the leftovers at home with my sharpest knife.

Service came thru

By DawgExplorer |

My wife and I dined here for the second year in a row on our anniversary. We ordered the thick cut bacon app that is juicy and charred on the outside with a slightly sweet sauce. Order this. My wife order the filet and I ordered the ribeye. Hers was cooked to perfection and mine was half fat and grisel. I showed it to the waiter and they took care of it right away. They saw it and agreed immediately and took it away. They were very apologetic and wanted to provide the type of steak they are known for. They brought out the best ribeye I have ever had. Two complimentary sides were brought out as well as a complimentary Neapolitan baked Alaska. I much preferred the banana pudding baked Alaska but it is still a delectable dessert. Afterwards you can walk along the adjacent Beltline to help burn off all of those calories.

Good solid place for a steak and a drink.

By chadz52 |

This was our second visit to this restaurant. They have other options other than steak. My advise is to stick with the steaks and resist the temptation to order any of the other items on the menu including any of the specials they might tempt you. All of the appetizers and salads are very good as are the many sides. The drinks are spot on and strong. Don’t miss the peanut butter banana cream pie. The service is incomparable and above many restaurants in Atlanta.

Wow ! Client came into town and suggested this place !

By LouisB1954 |

I had an out of town client come to Atlanta and he had heard about this place from a guy sitting next to him on the plane ! We met there for dinner ! It was just awesome ! They have lots of cut options and various meat selections and their seafood was outstanding ! The atmosphere and service was "the best" ! The historic building - the selections of wine - you can't beat this place !

Best non-bone-in filet I have ever had!

By redatl |

The filet literally melted in my mouth and had an excellent flavor! I have found a lot of high-end steak places don't use seasoning as they think the meat should be "enough". Not for me - protein needs seasoning - ever watched Chopped? They agree! Anyway - apparently Kevin made a special seasoning blend for his steaks and it is fabulous! But back to the start...ordered the Bacon appetizer - which is pork belly - spicy and sweet - melts in your mouth too! The Caesar salad honestly was not great. The dressing had no anchovy flavor at all, nor garlic for that matter. It was brightly acidic, but that's it. Good size and I love that it didn't cost $12+ even at this upscale place...however a great steak place needs to have 2 great salads: a Caesar and a wedge. Also - I would think they would have done a more creative crouton - like a Parmesan crisp or something. Also - the bread was very sub par...again, the bread needs to stand out - it seemed like some kind of loaf-type bread (not sandwich) and was not heated. Suggest they do a homemade small roll that is served hot. So 2 misses there which is why I am giving 4 stars instead of 5. We got the Parmesan fries which were truly phenomenal - so a hit there for sure. For dessert we got the Baked Alaska! Have never had it and I think it was popular in the 50's so I had to try it. Very yummy and something different. I get so tired of the same old desserts EVERYWHERE!!! This is a great special evening place though there were actually several kids in tow. The place is VERY loud but the vibe is cool as is the decor and bar. Very glad we went and will definitely try his other places too! PS - service was excellent and place filled up very quickly even by 6:00 p.m. and also I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the bright yellow/mustard shirts that the servers wear - super neat and unique!

Great location on the Beltline!

By R3770WEanthonyf |

Great location along the Beltline. When the weather is nice, the outdoor patio is a great place to dine. The quality of the food and service were a little disappointing for the price range, but were still decent.

No Bones About It

By Leroy W |

This is such a pleasing atmosphere and excellent Steakhouse in Atlanta. Servers are very attentive and offer suggestions from the wine list if you're not sure of a choice. The steaks are perfectly prepared as our party of 4 selected different menu items. They were all well presented. You must try the Brussel sprouts and Mac & Cheese with the steak. The noise level was a little high for conducting business but given that this was a dinner service, it was understandable. There are many big named Steakhouses in Atlanta, but this is the best in my opinion.

Exceptional service by Tony!

Exceptional service by Tony! Quiet peaceful outdoor dining, over looking the beltline, watching the world go by. My filet was melt in your mouth, jalapeño creamed corn super delish, and surprise BDay dessert - lemon cheesecake! Can’t get back soon enough - thank you Steak

Best steakhouse ever!

Best tasting steak ever! Lively atmosphere. Great service. Delicious cocktails. We came from N.C. just to eat here. Never disappoints! Appetizers and sides very tasty. Go!

Anniversary Dinner

Great atmosphere and service and good food! The thick cut bacon appetizer was the perfect choice to open a great steak and seafood meal experience!

Hard to beat!

By Chuck4225 |

We had a party of 5 business supper at Rathbun’s Thursday August 9th, and of course we were not disappointed. I chose a bone in strip that had to be one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Service was second to none. Definitely the best steak house in Atlanta, when you throw in the wine list and ambiance.

Amazing steak and atmosphere!!

By Atasha S |

Amazing experience and food. Definitely not your everyday steakhouse. I had a ribeye and fried lobster tail. Pure goodness!

Valentines Day

By Libra48 |

From the greeting at the front door, to the receipt of our check, the experience was excellent. I ordered the 6 oz, filet mignon, Oscar style and my partner ordered the 22 oz cowboy ribeye Oscar style. It was huge! The steaks were tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. The sides were impeccable and sharing size. Our sever was equally awesome. It was our first visit and we will definitely return. You pay a pretty penny, but I thought the experience was definitely worth it.

Filet Soooooo Tender

By Austin H |

Wow! All that I read about this restaurant is true. The ambiance was very comfortable, the service was exceptional, and the food was fantastic! Located in Midtown Atlanta it was easy to find and they had some self-parking as well as valet parking available. Items on the menu are ala carte and on the pricey side but well worth the experience. We were there to celebrate a special occasion and willing to pay the price. We highly recommend the filet mignon as it was so tender and flavorful that we couldn't believe a steak could be prepared to such perfection. We are sure that anything selected from the menu would be equally delectable.

Excellent Experience from Vibe of Resturaunt all the way through the food

By Gary L |

Went there for casual dinner with the family. Even though it was during pandemic, the environment was fairly well done. The tables were slightly apart but didn't feel vacant. Kevin Rathbun was stopping by to talk with patrons which was nice. Food was fabulous. Lobster fritters, salads, steaks and the sides corn, and brussels sprouts). Only agitation is they charged us for 3 small raw horseradish (slightly more than a teaspoon each as well as a small dish of the house steak sauce), $3 each for a total of $12. Very tacky for sure. Thankfully they didn't charge for a side of ketchup for the onion rings.

Excellent

By Sconietraveler |

Visited from out of town and had heard the reputation. Well worth the visit. The steak was phenomenal. The searing was perfect. Desert was top notch. The creme brûlée was one of my favorites with the drunken blueberries. Two thumbs up.

Love Rathbun's!

By Tom D |

We have been to Rathbun's a few times over the years, and every experience has always been very positive. Most recently, we went because it had been sometime since we had been there, and they were, as always, great. The steaks are off the chart, the service is top notch and the location and atmosphere are great. They are pricey, but well worth the $$.

Good Steaks, Questionable Sides

By Veritas57 |

Likes: Excellent steaks and very good wine list. Service was great, too. Dislikes: Side dishes are problematic. Our parmesan fries, for example, had more salt than the Dead Sea and were inedible. Bottom-line: Good, though pricey, steakhouse with excellent service but mediocre side dishes.

Great service, ok food

By wxgirl858 |

I really wanted to treat myself and my daughter to a special meal at a nice steakhouse. I researched through books and sites and we settled on Kevin Rathbun Steak. I made the reservation a few weeks in advance and we were ready to go. We arrived 20 min early and they were able to seat us immediately (it’s was before a dinner rush). I do not remember our waitresses name (Emily?) but she was fantastic. She was nice, well versed in the menu and helped me choose a great wine. We opted for the steak for two (porterhouse) and two sides. the salt on the pommes frites wasn’t evenly distributed so some fries were great and some too salty. The Buffalo cauliflower had great flavor but a little too much salt too. Sadly, the steak did not have enough salt. It was tender and juicy but not a lot of flavor. Overall we had a great experience but I can’t say it was totally worth the price. I was between average and very good on this one. It’s more of a 3 1/2 for me.

Excellent steak!

By Cheritaylor |

Do not leave Atlanta without trying this restaurant. By far, some of the best food ever, from the steaks to the mashed potatoes. Great atmosphere, great service and an extensive wine menu. Will definitely be back when in Atlanta!

Great Service & Ambiance, Food Not Outstanding

By Desmond |

My wife and I recently visited Kevin Rathbun Steak for her birthday dinner. The service and ambiance are awesome and the restaurant is beautiful. The customer service and speed of service was great. The food on the other hand was not amazing. The steak, macaroni & cheese and mashed potatoes were not seasoned well at all. This could have just been a one off thus the four star review. We probably won't try here again.

My Favorite Steak House in Atlanta

By Mike M |

I've lived in Atlanta for 14 years and this is hands down my favorite steak house. Food is absolutely incredible. Don't forget to get the jalepeno cream corn. Atmosphere is awesome and Kevin is the man. If you are visiting Atlanta and want the best steak in Atlanta, this is it.

Almost perfect

By raincheck10 |

Dined on a Saturday night and was seated promptly at reservation time. Waiter was attentive and menu selection was awesome. All the appetizers we had were delicious but the standout was the Ceaser Salad. Main dish was the porterhouse for 3 and unlike other steakhouses we found the portion size a little on the small size for the price paid. Taste was excellent. Other issue I had was being charged for steak sauce. When I’m paying $400 for a meal at least the steak sauce should be included. The restaurant itself is very attractive and has a younger vibe than other steakhouses.

Best steak in atlata

By L2858MAmartinn |

Only steakhouse in Atlanta where you can get the spinalis cut. Short rib and lobster tail appetizers are a must. Ask for Anthony as your waiter and you won't be disappointed. Wine list is solid, but they are happy to bring your own.

Fantastic Evening!

By Warren K |

Kevin Rathbun Steak is an outstanding restaurant for business, special occasions, or just a great time with friends and family. How many times have I had to attend a business dinner at Hal's leaving with a food hangover and an upset stomach? KRS is in the happening beltline area of Atlanta. Great crowd for a Monday night. We started out with martinis. We had their bacon appetizer and barbecued ribs. YUM! I chose half a spinach salad which was superb. Really fresh!! I had a bone end filet mignon for dinner which was wonderful and light. No beef hangover. I ended with a Kentucky bourbon and a chocolate bonbon dessert. This is a great restaurant with great service. What a great evening!!

Excellent steak and superior service

By Morris C |

Went this past week for anniversary; great food, great service, and was highly satisfied. Was it cheap, NO but well worth for special occasion. We will return

Disappointing all around

By Vaughn C |

I've lived in Atlanta for 24 years and have eaten at most of the Steakhouses. This one ranks very low and will not be one that I recommend. Last evening me, my wife and another couple decided to set reservations for this locale. We were excited as we had heard about the restaurant. They failed on many levels 1. Ambiance: We were seated in the basement which they refer too as the "winery". The lighting was poor. The visuals consisted of watching the staff go in and out of the storage area or prepare items for others. The light music, which was present upstairs, was barely audible as the establishment opted not to have it downstairs. I've had better ambiance at your common fast food place 2. Service: There was one server for the entire basement. He was clearly overwhelmed. His attention was limited for obvious reasons. We had to ask for simple refills of water. Never mind our beverages 3. Food: Appetizer- bbq short ribs - cold. Fatty. Steaks- we ordered bone end filet (x2) and dried cowboy. Filet was "ok" but not comparable to local Buckhead or downtown options (you can fill in the blanks). Decent portion. Dry-aged Cowboy was cold. Clearly left on the counter too long. Have you ever gone to a high end steakhouse and was served a cold steak ? Me neither until last night. Enough said. Lobster- under cooked. Had to return it and asked that it be prepared properly. Sides-sweet potatoes were hard and appeared to be "cut" from a pan. Overall would discourage spending time or money at establishment. Clearly not high end but you will still pay high end priced.

Very loud

By Campers5 |

Our food was not that great and it was very difficult to communicate with each other because it was so loud in the restaurant. This experience was a big disappointment all around.

Don't Always Trust Your First Impression

By Carroll P |

For our 24th anniversary, my husband took me to Kevin Rathbun Steak. Once we made it through the heavy curtains inside the door, we were greeted by a wall of noise and near total darkness. After being seated the waiter said "I have 60 open menus and it would be best if you ordered everything at once." I though, "oh dear I doubt I'm going to be happy here". I was so wrong! We began our meal with two appetizers. I got the escargot. The sauce was made with just right amount of garlic. It was served in a square baking dish and topped with deep fried onion strings. Who knew that the escargot- garlic - deep fried onions would make a good combination. My husband loved the Ahi Tuna Poke. We split the Spinach Salad with the hot bacon dressing. It came in two bowls and tasted very good. For the main dish we ordered the Dry-Aged Steak for 2. It was cooked perfectly. I like my steak medium-rare and my husband likes black and blue. They cooked it perfectly between the two temperatures. It was served sliced horizontally from the bone. The platter was tilted slightly to allow the juices to pool. There were spoons for each of us to add juices to the meat on our individual plates. We ordered two sides to go with it. One was grilled asparagus with hollandaise. The other was a special for that evening: lobster macaroni and cheese. Typically, I avoid this dish. It just seems too rich between the cheese and the rich lobster. Oh my goodness, it was up with some of best dishes I've ever had. No fancy macaroni - they used elbows cooked perfectly. What stood out was that it seemed that there was more lobster than cheese in the dish. Yes, there were healthy chunks of lobster making the cheese not so overwhelming. The service was impeccable. I was so worried that our food would all come out the same time. It didn't. We had plenty of time in between courses. With our meal we each had a glass of Cabernet. Halfway through our meal our waiter poured us another glass of wine to try. For our anniversary, they gave us Baked Alaska with a bananas foster sauce. Overall, this was an excellent meal with wonderful service. It's was worth every dime we spent. It wasn't most we've ever spent on a meal, but spending the same amount we spend on a car payment was a little hard on this middle class budget. It was still worth it!

A Great Steak

By michael p |

You want something extra special when you are paying big bucks for a dinner and you get it here. The restaurant is very attractive and not noisy like many others. The staff is very helpful and totally attentive. The food, the main reason you came here is delicious and well prepared. It's what you want it and it is what you get.

Scallops were on point!! Great steaks too

By bhlraven1916 |

Atlanta Eats was spot on!! Great food and better service. We had the lobster fritters and Japanese BBQ Wagyu Short Ribs for appetizers. Not too bad. The main course we had the Pan Roasted Divers Scallops, 10 oz Ribeye, and 8oz New York Strip. Great choices. The vegetables were more than enough. Try the roasted brussel sprouts. The drinks weren't watered-down. I'd go back.

wagu ribs and lobster fritters - steaks - oh my

By bobolouie |

Wagu ribs on a stick melt in your mouth, lobster fritters equally great. Steak a tad over salted but flavorful. Wine list decent and you can find something at every price point. Kyle was our waiter and was fabulous. Wasn't rushed at all would go again

Excellent steak, don't forget the mac and cheese!

By Michelle B |

We had dinner here tonight and ordered the 8 oz strip, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Mashed potatoes were very creamy. But the highlight was the mac and cheese. Amazing! We also shared the chocolate gnoche cake which was equally delicious. We loved it

Good But Should Be Great

By ImFrugal |

This place gets great praise, so thought to finally check it out. While good, for the coin you drop, I expected more. Didn't experience anything better than any of the other of the fine steak houses you can choose from in Atlanta. Filet - good. Ribeye, the signature steak that made Rathbun's famous per our server, also good, but I was told it was such a fine well aged cut of beef that there would be nothing left to eat. Wrong. 1/4 of it was fat and gristle that I left behind. The wedge salad... 2/3 hard as rock core not worth eating. 1/2 ounce sliver of bacon and watery blue cheese dressing to go with it. Really?? Roasted corn side, good but not great. Same with the Risotto. Drinks - My date ordered a couple of Cosmo's... Overly sweet and lacking Vodka. At $16 each, should have been great! Service - satisfactory. Ambiance - very loud / crowded. Bottom line, I was expecting spectacular based on all the good reviews and the cost, but came away feeling I certainly overpaid for the experience. I was hoping it to be wonderful based on reviews. Unfortunately not. For couples wanting a romantic dinner, go elsewhere.

1st Visit was Excellent

By 762cjt |

We first encountered Kevin Rathbun's at the old Atlanta Brave's stadium...they served some of the BEST steak sandwiches there. So we decided to visit the real Steakhouse (they have 2 restaurants on the same street, the other is called "Rathbun's American Cuisine") for a birthday celebration. We were lucky to get a reservation on a short notice for a 7:30 seating...unless you want to eat around 5:00 or after 9:00, you need to reserve a table a few weeks in advance. The dining room is quaint and dim (almost dark) and the menus are printed rather small, so make sure to bring along your cellphone flashlight if you don't have good eyes. Our waiter (as well as other staff) was excellent. He knew the menu--he had tasted almost everything at some time so he could give a nice description and even some commentary on all items. His recommendation of the Wagu Beef sticks appetizer was most appreciated...they were probably the most delicious food of the evening! All 4 of us just rolled our eyes when we ate it...wow! The lobster fritters were almost as good. We all had steaks...ribeyes and filets which were cooked expertly (I asked for mine to be 'almost medium-rare' and it was perfect). The sides were very good...try the Jalapeno cream corn or the scalloped sweet potatoes. The deserts were outstanding...we'd order their bon bons and their bread pudding deserts again! The dinner experience took about 90 minutes, so don't be in a rush. Oh, make sure you're not on a budget when you eat here since some of the very best items (the dry aged steaks) are rather pricey.

Burned Steak

By Karen N |

A family of 3 celebrating our adult daughter’s birthday selected the 3-person, $130 steak. The price would have been the same if we’d ordered individual steaks but we were convinced by our waiter to order the big steak. Having grilled hundreds of steaks myself, I know how hard it is to cook the center of a thick steak, even to medium rare. However charring the outside so every bite is crunchy, charred, bitter burnt is not the away to cook it. To add insult to injury, we each got very little steak, certainly not the 8 ounces the waiter sold. This trendy restaurant has excellent atmosphere, a fun, classy vibe. The sides were all excellent, perhaps the best mashed potatoes any of us has ever had. The Mac & cheese and brussel sprouts were equally wonderful. The bread was great, the drinks perfect. The bacon appetizer was excellent, and packs a slight spicy heat. Other than the steak, the food was very good. However our waiter lacked. We had to ask twice for bread and finding him to ask was quite a challenge. He did get everything correct on our order and was friendly. I’d give him a C+. The restaurant gifted our daughter the dessert of her choice for dessert and the S’mores Baked Alaska was delicious. My chocolate cake (I’ve forgotten its official title) was extremely rich & chocolatey. The bill was about $300. I do not recommend this restaurant because of the burnt steak. I thought about sending the steak back but after looking at nearby tables, all their steaks looked burnt too. Perhaps that’s the trendy way to cook nowadays, but I’ll stick to steak restaurants that cook steak properly.

Fantastic

By Walter L |

Went here for a Father's day dinner with my dad. The food and service was amazing. Short ribs were fantastic and the spinali rib eye which was recommended was simply the best. Nice wine list and server helped us pick a wine that would work for both of us since our tastes were different, which worked out perfectly.

Kevin rathbun steak

By Mary |

Best steaks ever!!! Much better than morton's - Ruth's Chris- etc. great atmosphere. Great service. Mouth watering. We go every time we have a chance

Neighborhood Local visitor

By tmaffett |

If you are traveling to Atlanta and staying in the downtown or midtown area and looking for a great steak, then look no further than this location. The space is very neat with some outdoor seating with a grand brick fireplace to have cocktails before your meal, or relax inside at the open bar with brick walls and high ceilings. The service is fantastic and the food being even better. Don't waste time traveling to Buckhead like most tourist would do, but find yourself at this wonderful steakhouse located on the very energetic Atlanta Beltline.

Dinner for 8 people at Kevin Rathbun steakhouse

By John T |

We had a family dinner on a Friday night at Kevin Rathbun in Atlanta. Very crowded and noisy. Steak was very good, but way overpriced. Will not be going back.

Lovely spot

By JG |

Visited last night for dinner. Amazing spot on the high line walk in Inman park district. We had drinks outside as we were early and actually ate dinner outside too. Inside if restaurant is lovely but noisy. Service excellent - waiter very knowledgeable about menu. We had salad and steak. Tasty and well cooked. Wine excellent. Valet parking on site. Pricey but would recommend.

Fantastic!

By John M |

Have been here before and was really good. This time the food was absolutely fantastic! We had apps of grilled bacon and the bone marrow - both are so flavorful it is difficult to go to main course. 3 of 4 of us had steaks and the other the pork chops. I had the special sirloin/top and it was one of best steaks I have ever had. Everyone one of our group commented on how great the food was. Only thing I would suggest they improve on is lighting. Regardless of age it is plain tough to read the menu - hello phone light. I really enjoyed my meal and would be wrong not giving props to Valérie who orchestrated our evening to perfection. Yes GREAT service can make things better! Great Evening/meal.

Perfection

By Jeffrey M |

I had the pleasure of dining here recently. The place was amazing.the dining room is beautiful with understated elegance. Warm and inviting and not loud even when it was packed .the staff ate true professionals . While it is a steak house it's so much more with a number of great apps and sides to close from . That all being said the steak is second to none . The porterhouse was one of the best I have had on the level of a Peter Lugers and that's saying a lot . It's a must if you want a great steak in ATL

Best server - Ever! Ask for John!

By Holly R |

I would love to rave about the food but that all paled in comparison to how amazing our server was. Do not worry, the food is great but John was hands down the best server I have ever had. I have eaten at plenty of establishments equal to this quality around the states and in other countries and truly he is worth asking for. I would describe him as friendly and professional with a touch of fun sass. He did a great job of making recommendations for everything from wine to dessert and found a great balance between letting us chat and checking on us while making us laugh. Truly the best server ever!

A MUST IF YOU’RE IN ATLANTA!

By EB1980 |

We had a wonderful time! The food was Delicious! Rick was our Lead Server was awesome! He was very prompt, playful & polite! He was truly amazing! Never wrote anything down for 17 people and NEVER got anything wrong! Wow!

Worth every penny

By Anne E |

The best ribeye steak I have ever had!! Melted in my mouth. The asparagus was absolutely delicious. The server was excellent- so professional and kind. I am allergic to dairy and she made it so comfortable for me to ask questions and order. Everyone in our group loved the food. We were able to meet the owner. He was so friendly and accommodated my friends’ request for a picture.

Incredible steak

By tcgielow |

Had the opportunity to eat a spinalis cut steak here and it was the best steak I have eaten in my life. The restaurant is truly the representation of an iron chef. All the food was amazing, from the thick cut bacon appetizer to the lobster ravioli and jalapeño cream corn to the simply exceptional steak. And the atmosphere in a converted old warehouse is just perfect. Do not pass up this place - it’s worth every penny.

Expectations Met

By Dealmaker |

My expectations in recommending Kevin Rathbun Steak to my friend visiting Atlanta were met and exceeded. Atlanta late afternnon traffic cuased a delay in getting to the restaurant. We called and advsied we would be late and were assured that we would be teaken care of when we arrived. Spot on our table was held. Adam S our sever was terrific. He made some great suggestions. The escargotstarter was diiferent then we had sampled, but was very good. The Rack of Lamb and Wagu Skirt Steak were over the top in flavor and tenderness. The Pome Frites were by far as good as I get in Paris or Brussels. The servive was excellent and the attention to detail was as if Kevin was our server!

The restaurant is lovely, but...

By A54Gem |

We dined at Rathbun Steak on a Monday, and it was much busier than I would expect on a Monday, so I think that attests to the popularity of the restaurant. The greeting we received was very welcoming, and we were seated in a central location that allowed a sweeping view of this lovely, well appointed restaurant: a portion of the open kitchen, the bar and many of the other people who were dining. The noise level was higher than I expected, though, and that was distracting. Our server was not as warm in his greeting as was the greeting we received when we walked in, though, as the evening progressed his temperament improved, but his service was lacking. He neglected to have the extra place settings removed and we had to ask for that; he repeatedly walked past us without inquiring about our needs so we had to waive him down for service, the final time to ask for the check. I had high expectations for this restaurant because of its reputation and reviews and especially since a friend who is a chef at a high end restaurant had recommended Rathbun Steak - all that added to the anticipation. To start, the bread was absolutely delicious, crusty outside and soft inside, but the butter was hard and I had to fight with it to spread it evenly. The oysters, however, were tender and tasted perfectly of the sea and the accompanying Champagne Mignonette was superb. The Roasted Bone Marrow was a delicious surprise. The Garlic Spinach was cooked perfectly, but was over salted. (Added salt should enhance the flavor of a dish, not scream salt.) My steak, cooked rare, was done perfectly, but had a sizeable glob of fat attached and an unfortunate network of sinew in several places - the largest of which I was able to trim away. Even if the steaks are pre-cut to ensure consistent weight, for the price I expect a better steak. The sorbet was so sweet that it set my teeth on edge, so I could not finish it. My dinner companion had the lobster mac and cheese which had nice size pieces of lobster in the dish. He said his steak was good (cooked medium rare) and his Banana Pudding Baked Alaska was tasty. Bottom line, I came for the steak, but service is always important. I've had much better steak and service at Bones.

Great food and service

By Linda H |

It was difficult to choose just one appetizer because they all sounded delicious. We went with the wagyu carpaccio, beef tartare and oysters. All were excellent. The steak was amazing and the sides were also excellent. Too bad we did not save room for dessert. Our waiter was great very attentive. I had asked for a second glass of wine and because he thought it took him to long to bring it it was on the House. I hadn’t yet finished my first glass so I didn’t notice if it was a wait. It was pricey but well worth it.

Another pleasurable experience

By DawgExplorer |

My wife and I came here for our anniversary on a Saturday night. The service was excellent and honest. I got a ribeye and she got a filet. Both were delicious but the filet was superior. Tender, juicy, and very flavorful it was. The hassleback potato was delicious with a strong bacon flavor. The pork belly melted in our mouths and the banana baked Alaska was incredible. We walked along the Beltline afterwards which is right out of the door to help burn a few calories.

Great steaks and professional service

By chocolate1527 |

The restaurant has 2 dining rooms on the main level and a third smaller dining room downstairs. The ambiance is great for business and friends, not a place for little kids. We were quickly greeted by Todd our server who was a professional without being stuffy. he clearly explained the menu and steaks and we ordered oysters, kale, mac&cheese, jalapeno creamed corn, dry aged steak for 2, bone in filet and spinalis steak. They have several sauces to chose from, we added melted blue cheese. The meal was fantastic and mouthwatering, everyone loved it. We had some Emilio mojo Rioja and some of their cocktails. We finished with baked Alaska and creme brulee. It's a great restaurant and it has a large bar and outside seating if you want a more casual setting. I will definitely visit again when in Atlanta.

A couple of flaws detracted

By DavidG897 |

Our last visit produced exclamations of excellence. Hoped for a repeat. Two flaws detracted. Two of our party asked for iceberg wedges without bacon. But….you now know what happened. Speedily dealt with with fresh wedges. One of us ordered an eight ounce strip steak. While it looked perfect, some three ounces (not less) were just fat. The manager checked with the chef who agreed it should not have been sent out like that. Check was adjusted. Just too hard to consider an Excellent overall rating though gave credit for issue handling. So, only Very Good this time

Good for steak and special occasion

By chadz52 |

Great service and the lobster appetizer was excellent. The scallops were good as was the strip steak which had a good flavor. Drinks were good and strong. Wish they served grass fed beef instead of gmo grain fed beef. Seemed a little overpriced as is every thing else these days. Good ambiance and parking was ample.

After all the reviews and hype, I tried KRS myself!

By Jasongordo1 |

I chose KRS to take a top customer for dinner. I had high expectations as this place launched in Atlanta and became one of the top steakhouses very quickly. Would it deliver? Yes and no. We tried many items off of the menu to get a good sample of what the restaurant can do. Interestingly enough, the appetizers were so good, they almost carried the day. The lobster fritters and short ribs were amazing, so we were hyped for the main course. The steak was of great quality and cooked really well. I went with the ribeye to get a gauge of how they would do with a familiar cut. The steak will be served on a hot plate, so know that when ordering. Sure enough, my medium rare cooked to medium while eating. The sides were a different story I'm afraid. I am still not sure what was in the mushroom bowl, but it wasn't anything I had seen before. Those should be simple, not mysterious. The competition in Atlanta for steak is fierce. I can see why KRS has been around as the beef was top notch. However, the noisy open room, suspect sides, and pricing have me going right back to Bones next time.

Best Steakhouse in Atlanta

By WisconsinBaderFan |

I have taken clients here 4 times in the last year. It just such a great place to go. Atmosphere is excellent, you are seated promptly and the wait staff is beyond attentive. Tonight for a special they had a steak called a Spinalis. It was the best steak I have ever eaten. I never heard of it before tonight. This is a must if they have it on the menu. Not sure I would bring young kids but for business dinners or special occasions this place is the best in Atlanta.

We had a memorable lunch here

By Marko M |

The Japanese BBQ wagyu short ribs and the jumbo shrimp cocktail were perfectly made and were really delicious. The roasted beet salad was tasty. The service was fantastic and we had a memorable lunch here.

Great Service and Wonderful Food

By Whitney S |

We have been to Kevin Rathbun’s several times for birthdays and anniversaries and this was by far our best experience. Thank you so much to our server, Rick, and the manager for taking such good care of us. We started with the Pecan Cheese Fritters which were very good. Just the right amount of crisp and paired nicely with goat cheese. Then we had the beat salad along with the wedge. For entrees, we had the filet, creamed spinach, and Mac and cheese. It was all so good. For desert, the chocolate tart was one of the best I’ve ever had. Overall, the food was top notch and the service was attentive but not so much so that it was intrusive. Rick paced all our dishes appropriately and we never felt rushed. Thank you much for making my birthday evening so special!

Steak & ambience ...

By Larry H |

I've been loving Kevin Rathbun's beef for a decade now. They age it in-house and the cowboy rib-eye is to die for ! Reservations are essential; however, getting a bar spot at the last minute works too and Herb is a great bar tender who'll remember your name by the second visit. Whether it's a romantic night out or a business meeting befitting the brass, the ambience is outstanding ... and the private room in the cellar is great for parties and events too ! The Krog St area, while once run down at best, now sports renovated warehouses with open market areas in the heart of Inman Park, Atlanta's first suburb back in the day. The Beltline and city greenspace runs adjacent to Rathbun's patio providing additional ambience to those lingering after a meal for drinks and cigars. I've tried and enjoyed many aged steaks across the country and Kevin has consistently produced beef on par with any restaurant I've tried and without a doubt the best in Atlanta, a foodie city to itself. Oh, if you make it you must also try the Grilled Bacon ... it may be better than the steak !

Yummy

By iris B |

Great place to celebrate a special occasion. We went for our son's birthday. The three of us ordered rib eye steaks and we shared two sides. The steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sides (creamed spinach and scalloped sweet potatoes) were very tasty as well. Our server (don't remember her name-maybe Nakitra?)was knowledgeable and offered excellent suggestions. She was friendly, welcoming, professional, and efficient. The prices are reasonable for a steak house. There is both valet and self parking.

Anniversary Delight

By Kankead8 |

Possibly the best steak I’ve had in a while, but the sides and the atmosphere was great too. The corn with jalapeños, and the asparagus were fabulous. The sweet potatoes were great too. Our wine selections were well paired! Loved it, and we will return....

Very good steak restaurant with a very lively bar area. A very good house Cabernet and great service. Will have to go again on my next trip.
