Went here for my wife's birthday. Took heed to the other reviews and arrived early. Place got crowded pretty quickly. Apps came at the same time as our main course. All tasty. Server a little slow toward the end of the meal. Quite sure it had to do with the tempo of the place. Will definitely return.

After recently reviewing another Ramen joint, I had a strong craving and was compelled to try this place immediately. What a disappointment. I tried their supposedly richest broth, the tonkotsu (what I usually get in other ramen places) and it was anything but. It was thin and watery and the flavour was just of salt. The proportion of noodles, which by the way were already soggy when they came, to broth was way off balance. Too much noodles for the bowl. Only redeeming factor was the pork belly which had great seasoning and char. Boyfriend quickly noticed I was disapointed with my food and let me try his. He ordered the yakisoba which wasn't terrible but wasnt anything special. I was brought up to finish my food and if not to take them as leftovers, but I had no qualms about just leaving it. Place was tiny and they tried to fit as much inside. Companion says the atmosphere was a little gloomy. Parking is scarce and expensive. Unfortunately, will not go back and will avoid at all costs.

My first time eating Ramen and I loved it. This is a small restaurant with larger portions. The food was absolutely delicious. Friendly service and I would eat here again. They have a small outdoor patio should you want to eat outside. I was there in June with the temps in the mid 90’s.

Great ramen shop conveniently located walking distance from the hgb. They offer several interesting sodas and a variety of noodle dishes in addition to their ramen.

If you can, sit at the bar and have your meal with Eric. He can create something special though ordering off the menu of specialty drinks is an absolute treat. Very knowledgeable about sake, wines, craft cocktails.

Work beings me to San Antonio several times a year and on this trip I finally discovered Kimura. Thank the Trip Advisor gods for helping me find it. I love ramen and love the ramen Kimura serves. The joint is small and busy so you may have to wait a bit for your food but it is worth it. It is hard to believe I have discovered this place previously. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get away of the same old stuff on the river walk. Kimura should absolutely be ranked much higher by TA. I will definitely be back!

Husband and I came here during a Couples Retreat. Great Vibe and Great Food. The restaurant is on the small side but the taste makes up for that

It seemed like you have to wait forever for your food come. When my green tea pot was empty, server never asked me whether I wanted to have more hot water or not. Food is good.

In town, performing a show for the week with 65 other people. Eaten at Kimura everyday since arriving. And so far, 15 others in our group have eaten here, and also loved it! Every item we've tried has been great. Food, drinks, and the staff. Looking forward to going again tomorrow. A big thank you to everyone at Kimura, a really great experience! You all are killing it!! Thank you

My friend and I decided to have lunch downtown last Friday, and we happened upon Kimura, a small but delightful Japanese restaurant located at the corner of Pecan and Saint Mary's streets. The service was exceptional, and the food was quite tasty and beautifully prepared. My friend had the kastu-don, and I had the ramen with chicken. He complimented his meal with a Japanese beer, while I enjoyed a white Sake. We were both extremely impressed with the overall experience. The food and service was superior, and the price was very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I highly recommend this restaurant to visitors and locals.

From the grilled bok choy to the gyoza to the chashu don everything was perfect. If you can sit at the bartop so you can see the cooks at work.

This was our second visit to Kumura. Both times, we opted to sit at the bar, where you can watch the chefs in action. Get the edamame appetizer - charred! The dumplings were also great! I had the breaded pork entree on rice and my husband had one of the noodle dishes. Both were delicious.

Had really no big expectations but was very impressed!! The staff are eager and very friendly...made me feel like a regular in no time. The sushi had been temporarily removed from the menu but I wanted soup. I started with the grilled shishito peppers and they were very good but could have been grilled for a couple minutes more, then had the shoyu ramen and was a big bowl of comfort. A bit of craft cocktailing goes on here which is great to see...they even make their own bitters...I will be back!!!!

A casual dinner of ramen for two Japanese-Americans resulted in a number of misses. -ordering at the counter became tedious and unnecessarily long as we watched soon-to-be diners ordering food but taste-testing a selection of wines or sakes. -onscreen gratuities begin at 20%! 20% of tax included total! And we carried the water carafe, glasses and beer to the table ourselves. As first time diners, we learned the utensils were also self-serve. -the ramen was delivered by a manager (who is serving tables for the tips?) -the ramen must have cooled before table delivery because it should have been hot. It was not. -while the ground pork in Tantanramen was quite tasty, the noodles were clumping together. Not very Japanese. -the shoyuramen failed to satisfy the palate. We think it was the shoyu being low quality. And mushrooms should be added last or late into the ramen. -was white pepper available? -too many ramen shops to try before returning here. I still want to know why the gratuity starts at 20% for delivery of food to table by a manager.

Ordered YAKISOBA beef bowl, came to $16 w/o tip. Beef was marinated very good, but not worth the $16. More like a $9 dish for SATX prices. Also, music in background was very loud, a mix of hard rock, tecno; not a place to have a conversation in peace. Asked the waiter if could lower, he was polite, said would try, but also said "the music is part of the theme of this restaurant". I accepted it, but was happy to step out of there when done with the meal.

I've been to Japan, and I'll say the ramen at Kimura is just as good! I can't get over how good the broth is and also the noodles. It was absolutely perfect. We also tried the grilled bak choy as an appetizer, and it was excellent. The service was great with very attentive wait staff. They give you your own bottle of water at the table so that you can refill your cups, but they will also refill for you. They can easily answer any questions you have about the menu. The space is small, but even on a Saturday evening, we were easily able to get a table. And you can eat this hot soup in the middle of the Texas summer because they keep the AC on blast. Prices are also very reasonable. I can't say enough good things about this place.

As I closed out my San Antonio Foodie Quests before my deployment, an old friend and I reconnected at Kimura for some Asian Fusion. While the restaurant was easy to find near the River Walk, parking was another story... Many lots were full so I walked a few blocks and found a street spot that was free after 6 pm. I had been looking for a nice Ramen spot to cure my Asian fix and hoped that it would create a sensory overload transporting me back to Okinawa Japan. While some expectations were met, others weren't... the restaurant was small and did not have many seats but I was greeted warmly by my waitress. The food smells reminded me of Okinawa but the food in my opinion had some room to grow. Menu: Gyoza : A+ app with all of the taste of Okinawa. While it fell apart on my fork it was so delicious, presented nicely but was more expensive than any restaurant in the San Antonio area. Pork Katsudon: B- while the meal had potential the salt in the pork breading almost put me in shock. The caramelized onions were a great addition and the rice was spot on. Less salt and this would have been a winner with the fried egg on top. Ramen: B-... This is what I had longed for and was disappointed that the broth was undeveloped and it was too oily. The chicken was tasty but I had hoped for better flavor development. I tried their version of orange soda.. Flavored sugar water : pass All in all I might try it again but will keep looking... Ms. Foodie

While in Texas who doesn’t want to try Japanese Noodles. We went and tried two different noodle bowls and we enjoyed them, we ate outside because the weather was perfect and they had outdoor seating. I order the noodle bowl with the pork shoulder and the chef came out after my meal was delivered to my table with extra pork shoulder because he thought the meat that he gave me was over cooked, that alone to me showed me the character of the chef and restaurant. Kudos to a great meal and great customer service.

The location is off the beaten path and we were guide by both reviews and hotel valet. The appearance of the place inside and outside does not look like a typical Asain cafe and the loud music within was not what I expected; Friday night club sound. Please note you will have to speak loud to have table talk with the music in the background. Using our trip advisor app viewed both menu items with photos and order accordingly. The items order did not match the photo and did match their reviews. The sampler plate, dumpling like dish and popular ramen bowl feel short of being what was expected. The waitress and lead cook was informed that we had concern about the reviews and the food appearance. The good was food portion was reasonable priced and service. The bad was food appearance and tastes. The ugly was the loud music. I would not return or recommend.

I have come here multiple times with several friends and every time I have enjoyed myself. The restaurant has an open kitchen and the chefs will usually joke around a bit when we sit at the open bar. The meals are reasonably priced for good ramen. Every one of the bowls is filling and will leave you feeling satisfied. I'm definitely going to come back here again

You have to watch when you walk by because you can miss it. When you walk in, you walk in facing the kitchen and everyone greets you. It is a small place, but the smell is wonderful. It is a small place and rather loud, but the food and service make up for it. I sat at the food counter which is something I suggest as you are looking right into the kitchen. I ordered the Yakisoba with Pork. They serve you miso soup which is tasty. I have had that soup in many places were it was just hot water with tofu cubes. This miso has a wonderful flavor. I found it enjoyable. The yakisoba was slightly spicy. It was not a burn, but a good spice. It was large. I would suggest splitting it or taking half of it home. This dish was not large just to be large, it is something I will purchase again. Because I sat looking into the kitchen, I saw all of the ingredients going into the food. They all looked crispy, fresh and pleasant smelling. We all know what bad food smells like. The waitstaff was very attentive but not annoying. We have all had that one server who is always bothering you every 5 minutes. They did a good job without bothering me. I would definitely come back, especially if the staff is this good all of the time. They all seemed genuinely happy to be there.

The food was delicious, authentic, and nicely accommodated persons in our part who are gluten free. Staff was friendly and attentive and the place is funky and fun.

This is not a regular Japanese restaurant. More like ramen restaurant with good main courses locally sourced. The food was good, great service and great price.

I went to San Antonio for Business. The food at Kimura is so delicious that I ate at this restaurant three times. The food is fresh and the Ramen is the best I've had in the USA.

Go early or just before it closes since it gets full fairly quickly. The noodle dishes are delicious, highly reccommended.

We went there because of the great review on Trip Advisor. The food was great. Though they are famous for their noodles but one should also try their "small plates". In fact, order some small plates, since the noodles may take a long while. Our waitress apologized and said it's not usually that slow. They would have much better business if they improve their operation in the kitchen to make it more efficient. However, I would go back because of the taste of their Ramen noodles.

I walked here from my hotel and went in because the smell was so good! I read that the ramen was excellent but saw someone get the noodles and had to try it they looked so good. They did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and the sauce on the noodles was amazing. I had a weary friend with me, who had never had ramen at a restaurant, and she loved it. There are a lot of decisions to make and you can customize your order a lot. just ask the staff for help, they will walk you through it. Highly recommend this place!

While on a recent work trip with my co-worker (who lived in Japan while in the navy) we decided to do some Japanese. Ordered some dumplings as apps along with chicken teppanyaki and both were excellent. I settled on some ramen soup with pork belly and it was amazing! Silky smooth broth that was incredibly flavorful. Happy hour pricing on the apps was sweet! All in all, terrific.

Awesome hidden gem in downtown San Antonio especially if you’re looking for something other than Tex-mex. Go early or get a reservation because this small restaurant gets packed. Food is delicious, generous portions, and great price. Friendly staff is knowledgeable and makes great recommendations. They don’t have a huge menu but everything is cooked to order and custom.

Chicken Ramen was the best I had something not in middle east anyone come to San Antonio have to try it Chicken Ramen was the best I had something not in middle east anyone come to San Antonio have to try it

Excellent fare- great drinks . be sure to go during happy hour and partake in small plates and drink specials

First of all I'd like to say that I've eaten here before and I even endorse this place before. But my God this time around, I've experience the worst service. I got at this place at 1245, got seated at 1:05 and we ordered at 1:10. Its 1:37pm now and no one had even acknowledge that weve been waiting this long. We ordered sake but I guess they serve it with a 30mins wait for ramen? I even ask for lemon for my water and the waiter rudely said, NO WE DONT HAVE LEMONS AND WERE OUT OF STRAWS. The manager/owner as she claimed was very rude and even gave us the worst attitude. She said they are short staff and we have to bear with her with no apology and no empathy. The place has the worst ventilation and their kitchen is flooding. I took pictures of how nasty and dirty the place is. I would not recommend this place if you want a great experience. Worst EXPERIENCE EVER.

It's hard enough to be a gluten-free foodie in a town known for pillow soft flour tortillas, much less a military brat craving authentic gluten-free ramen to remind me of Japan. I was cautiously optimistic and as we entered we were greeted by a very friendly hostess who told us about the YAM noodles when we inquired about any gluten-free items. Mad props to Eric, our server for listening carefully and to Miles, our chef this evening, who also listened carefully and personally came to the table to present a beautiful, gluten-friendly bowl of delicious ramen. Wow. Just wow. Thank you, Kimura...we'll be back!

Husband and I stopped here on a whim while visiting San Antonio. very glad we did! The pork belly ramen was incredible, and the prices very reasonable. Place seemed very busy, must be popular with the downtown lunch crowd.

Good taste of miso soup, ramen and gohan. Pork in ramen is especially delicious. There's no many Japanese restaurant in SA. And Kimura is a good restaurant with good service.

Chef Michael Sochoki has now two great restaurant s in SA. The other is Restaurant Gwendolyn. Both in the Echange building. For serious foodies, Kimura has wonderful ramen I had Shoyo and tasted the Miso. Lots more on thwle menu such as sesame crusted tuna with wasabi glaze and chicken heart yakatori. Small and cozy, great service and amazing cocktails. Will definitely go back

This was one of the few places open that we could get to and agree on. When we arrived, they had a couple of parties, so we had to wait 40 minutes for a table. There is no place to wait, and it was raining outside, so we were in the way for a while. Management was very gracious and bought us an appetizer for our trouble. When the food arrived, it was definitely worth the wait. It was all delicious. The whiskey selection was very sparse, but the bartender was good at using what was available. The location is also quite loud. The music was up loud, so everyone had to talk louder. The space is small and is all metal and concrete so nothing to dampen it.

The best Gyoza, (pot stickers) I’ve had in more Than 30 years! The rice bowl was amazing and the Sunomono outstanding! Don’t miss this!

I heard about Kimura and was very curious to try the ramen for myself, as well as all the other dishes that everyone was raving about. Try to go during happy hour (5-7) and appetizers are half off and drinks are discounted heavily. Their charred edamame was absolutely delicious. The gyoza (fried dumplings) was light and flavorful, while the yakitori (chicken skewers) looked pretty on the plate but was equally tasty. Now for the ramen that our group tried... Tantanmen - shoyu broth with miso paste, spicy ground pork Tonkotsu - pork bone broth with pork shoulder, and another bowl with pork belly instead Miso - with tofu All were very good, balanced, and full of flavor. The mushroom garnish are a treat in your mouth. It's rare that we venture downtown during the weekday for dinner but this was definitely worth the trip. Not only was the food good but the service was fast and friendly.

Wife and her friend walked by this restaurant on Friday so we decided to go on Saturday. It had just opened at 12 so we were instantly seated. Our waitress Mia was professional and courteous. After 15-20 mins the place was full with customers. We ordered tonkotsu ramen, gyoza, and yakisoba. Pork based broth of the ramen wasn’t bad, but I think the noodles aren’t homemade. Yakisoba with chicken the wife enjoyed but a little spicy for her. Gyoza was ok but I’ve had better. I would visit again and try something else on the menu. Worth your time to check it out and make your own assessment.

Very good, was expecting fairly good dining experience, with the aromatic smells, and I was not disappointed. What a fantastic place, very friendly and Delicious. Please try to make it to this place while traveling in San Antonio, you will enjoy :)

We had lunch at Kimura and had a fantastic experience. They were packed so we sat at the bar. This turned out to be a blessing. The bartender was awesome. She was fun to talk with and did a great job of guiding my wife to a great drink and I enjoyed the Sapporo draft. We had the charred shishito peppers as well as the charred and spicy edamame and they were both great. I highly recommend the charred and spicy edamame as a different take that is a depature from the normal steamed and boring edamame. The ramen was fantastic. And I highly recommend adding the grilled bok choy. This is a fantastic restaurant and I highly recommend the ramen on a cool day.

Stopped by with friends. In town for a few days (from California). Food was delicious! Not one bad thing to mention. I suggest trying the Ginger Geisha. Staff was welcoming and quite friends.

Really good Yakitori and Gyoza. Recommend highly. We got the chicken and pork ramen. The pork was great but the chicken was a little salty for me. Might just be today though.

If in downtown SA or craving Ramen this is the place to go! The ramen broth is cooked for an extended period of time (according to the waitress) and that’s what makes it very flavorful. We have been here several times and each time we have been very impressed. The seating is limited so go during an off meal time but still be prepared to wait. But well worth the wait.

Ok, So I had read quite a lot of reviews about this place and thought, ok lets try it. I love ramen, Michi Ramen in Austin is my fav so far in Texas and Shin Sen Gumi in LA is the best in CA. When we walked in the door I should have known to turn around and leave. The fresh smell of pine sol was not appetizing. So we order the Tonkotsu ramen. The broth had absolutely no flavor and my ramen was clumped (glued) together. The management tried to get us to try the Shoyu broth, but all I wanted to do was run. So after work we drove to Austin just to have great ramen for dinner. I do not know who did their previous reviews, but really? No!, not good and not even close.

Highly recommend this place. So perfect if you don’t like to eat at tourist spots on the river walk. Two blocks away from the river walk. We got the gyoza (pork dumplings), the sampler of pickled veggies, and the tonkotsu ramen. This was a perfect amount of food for the two of us. The broth is so flavorful, creamy, and thick. The pickled veggies are to die for. We sat at the counter and watched the chefs which was very entertaining. Not only was the food amazing, but the service we received from Victoria was outstanding. She took her time to explain the menu and serve us with great attention. She even recommended places for us to visit for another drink after dinner. Next time I am back in San Antonio, this will be the first stop on my list.

I need to eat here at least once a week. The food is addictive to me. Great portion size, good value for the price. Its fun to sit at the bar and watch them prepare in front of you. Only caveat is the waiter service is almost always a bit slower than I would like, so just make sure to speak up if you need something! Seating is limited so get there or call ahead with some preparation.

I always try to eat here when I am in San Antonio. This is a place that only does a few dishes, but they do them so well, they don't need anything else. Nice selection of beers to go with your ramen, too. Highly, highly recommended.

My friend and I were visiting in town and had takeaway at Kimura last night. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. I recommend this place if your in the mood for some tasty takeaway. The restaurant itself was really small and it looked like there was quite a wait for seating.

While in San Antonio on vacation my wife and I we craving Japanese food. This restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel so we decided to try it. The place was surprisingly small. We both ordered the Katsudon. It was very good and we both could not finish the meal. The staff was very attentive. Great meal.

From Sam’s enthusiastic greeting at the door, her patience and attention to detail, and finally the custom register button I unintentionally caused by my special order, I have become a noodle guy. Not just any noodle guy. I don’t think any noodle shop could have done it. Kimura did. The whole place has a great vibe. The food is fresh and customer service is as important ingredient as any other. I’ve landed on a variation of the Saba, mostly because of the Teriyaki I think (surprising because I was never a Teriyaki guy). I did mix it up a bit and so far I’ve never been disappointed. Today, I showed up with my own chop sticks. I think I’m all in. Arigatōgo Kimura!

Funky little place by greyhound bus station and Bill Millers. Staff in black are pleasant and welcoming. They're happy to inform you of the Japanese ways. Had roasted green peppers and Japanese eggplant appetizers. No disappointment. Our group tried most Ramen with a range of meat options. No disappointments. Relaxed and cool vibe. If that's you, you'll like it.

I’ll start off by saying the food is good. Nothing fantastic, but a good quick lunch. But the service.... what the literal f***? This place is an excellent example of a restaurant that should not have an open kitchen. The manager conversed with the staff super inappropriately. His staff were begging him to go home/for time off literally right next to me. The kitchen was dirty (as was the bathroom) which is always a concern. The manager also rolled up right next to me and made sleazy jokes. Nah, man. This place could be good if it: cleaned, closed its kitchen, and had a manager that took it remotely seriously.

Kimura is located in downtown San Antonio. Parking is limited to paid meters and parking garages in the vicinity of the restaurant. The restaurant is incredibly tiny, so you can expect to wait, and to smell like everything that was cooked during your visit, as the kitchen is exposed. We visited on a Monday night around 7:30 p.m. and waited about an hour and a half for our food. We both had the miso ramen and it was delicious! There is a small bar within the establishment, limited to about 4 seats. There is also bar-type seating in front of the exposed kitchen where about 6-8 people can sit. The rest of the seating in the restaurant are bar-top or regular tables. We paid around $45.00 after tip for the dumplings and two miso ramen. We will visit again based on how good the food was.

The seating is limited. that's fine I have eaten in many Japanese places (especially Ramen ones) that have limited seating. The moment we enter the restaurant though, before we were met by the hostess, we were first greeted by the strong, overwhelming smell of grease being burnt. my wife almost left right away, but it was hot outside and the we were all hungry. I talked my wife into staying and try the food. While waiting for our food to arrive, I looked around and try to see what's wrong with the place to have this strong smell. It looks like it had a powerful enough hood that should have sucked out all the smoke from the grill. I have eaten in places with the same open kitchen design but had no odor at all. Maybe the hood were broken or not running or properly cleaned. I wasn't going to find out when my wife said she can't stand the smell. so we asked to pack up all the food we ordered to go and took them back to our hotel room. The bok choy were literally burnt from the grill. but the center were not cooked to the point almost raw. Asians don't cook the veggies that way but maybe that's their style. The ramen were ok, not bad. but they didn't have pork belly that day so we had the beef to the stir fried noodle. The beef were actually the best part of the lunch. Overall though, the food were not really memorable and our senses were overwhelmed by the strong odor and that was probably the only thing we remembered about this place. Our clothing remembered it too, the smell stayed on the garments until we washed it after we get back home (imagine how strong the odor were, we only stayed in the restaurant for less than 20 minutes).

Kimura Ramen is one of the best ramen places that I've had the pleasure of enjoying!! The menu items left me feeling enthusiastic but not overwhelmed. The ramen itself was DELICIOUS!!! The broth was really something!!! The service was on point! I highly recommend eating outside. The setting is very romantic and the service is every bit as good as it would be inside! Props to the chefs and staff for an amazing dining experience every time that I've been!

My husband and I popped into this restaurant to share some gyoza and a bowl of tonkotsu ramen for a light dinner. The execution was good - the gyoza and noodles were cooked perfectly and had the right ingredients, but it all tasted quite different to the food that we had eaten in Japan. We thought that the gyoza was a little too oily and were surprised to only find 4 in a serving. Full marks for effort and service though!

This is a no frills, relaxed little spot for ramen dishes in downtown San Antonio. It doesnt disapoint at all. Came to Kimura out of curiosity after seeing it crowded as hell the night before. It was a good decision. Very simple ramen dishes, served as they should be: generously and with good ingredients. Cant go wrong with the food. Service is very relaxed but efficient. The setting is informal and conducive to conversation. Only suggestion: Could use a larger variety of beer options.

We had been in San Antonio for 3 nights and ate at the Riverwalk. Needed a break and found Kimura just down from our Wyndham Hotel -- DO make sure you drop in here! I want to tell you this is not your usual ramen noodle place! We got to see the floor show and were seated at the bar, got to watch the cooks prepare all meals. What a blast!

I can’t say enough good things about this place. Came here with a party of eight... while they don’t take reservations, you can call half hour ahead to reserve a table or two. This is a VERY small, hole in the wall place, close to the river walk but not ON the river. But the food is all deliciously and lovingly prepared and the staff is very knowledgeable about their menu. Great sake selection. Try the braised bok Choi and the gyoza as appetizers. I had the yakisoba with chicken and Bork shoulder- yum! No sushi here... just noodles done right. Thank you, Kimura!!!

I went to Kimora with high expectations based on the reviews however, I was disappointed. I ordered takeout and when I arrived I had to wait a very long time for my food (I was told it would take 15 mins over the phone however it took over 45 mins). I had the miso ramen which was extremely salty and just tasted off...it was bitter and sour. I probably would not reccommend this restaurant.

I think I know a little about ramen or at least how it should taste. I lived in northern Japan for nearly 7 years and since returning to the US, I try to seek out places that sell ramen. I wouldn't say that I am a connoisseur but I just enjoy it. Anyways, I was in San Antonio for three nights and wanted ramen. A quick search on web browser app on my phone for ramen & san antonio showed a few results and saw a listing for Kimura. Read the reviews and it looked like a neat place to try. It was easy to find thanks to Siri and parking is within a block away (fee parking lots - $10). It is small inside but once in, you are comfortable either at the bar (actual bar or bar in front of kitchen which is where I and my two daughters sat) or at one of the tables. To just come out and say it, the ramen was very tasty. If in the area an you want ramen, this is the place to go.

The Ramen was decent - the server may have been new, but was fairly inattentive. Kids had a decent time. We kept having to ask for some pretty basic stuff, like spoons for example. When you put a bunch of ramen on the table, we shouldn’t have to ask for spoons.

The Miso ramen was very good. The portions are large enough for leftovers. I added tofu for $3 extra, but next time I won't. The ramen as is is good enough. The seaweed salad was ordinary. Next time I'll skip the appetizer. The staff was friendly and attentive. The only drawback is the location. You will more than likely have to pay for parking. The restaurant itself is small. Limited seating. I did go on a weekday and there was no wait.

Kimura is a specialty ramen shop in downtown San Antonio. I had dinner there one night and was very impressed. They make a lot of their ingredients in-house and have some great sakes and signature cocktails as well (the Gonzalez & the Green Lady are great). I had the Shoyu Ramen, which was excellent. I was told that the only thing not sourced or produced locally were the noodles for quality considerations. Wherever the ramen noodles came from, they were great!

If you want the best ramen, this is the place. You have to park across the street (and pay) but it is totally worth it. I'd wish they move to a better location.... The goyza is the best ive ever had

I went to Kimura for the Ramen. San Antonio doesn't have a lot of Japanese restaurants that serve Ramen. The bowl of Ramen I ordered was excellent and had all of the ingredients one would get in Tokyo or Los Angeles, A great addition to the San Antonio restaurant scene. The service was excellent.

Came in solo and had Isaiah as my server who informed me of happy hour specials and made some recommendations. I ordered the tonkatsu Ramen and was informed they were out, no big deal restaurants run out of stuff, so I ordered shoyu. The bowl was beautifully presented with pork belly, mushrooms, nori, fish cake, green onions, sprouts and half an egg. The broth was ok, but lacked a depth of flavor. I may be picky, but I prefer my egg to be soft boiled rather than hard as well. Overall a relatively average bowl of ramen. Restaurant was very clean, servers were very attentive and the drinks coming from the bar looked great. Wasn't my cup of tea, but it could be someone else's.

This was definitely not the typical Japanese sushi restaurant...in fact no sushi at all. The restaurant specializes in ramen and donburi. I enjoyed a gyoza and the meat donburi, both of which were delicious. The cocktails were creative. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was small and crowded. I was lucky to get a table; there ended up being a line after me, and they don't take reservations. Don't pay attention to the pictures on the website. The restaurant is actually dark inside. Because of the size and the open kitchen, it was pretty smoky. That could be a problem for anyone with severe allergies or asthma.

Locally sourced, very small venue and amazing food make this place a popular destination. The food is delicious and the staff is wonderful. Call ahead to get on the list as you will be waiting if you just walk up. Not all items on the menu will be available either since locally sourced mean limited quantities. Definitely worth the effort though.

A colleague had eaten here and highly recommended it. Everything was delicious. We had the grilled edamame to start. I had the noodles as my entree (sorry, forgot name, not ramen), which were very flavorful. Just the perfect amount of kick. The waitress also brought pickled cucumbers to cleanse the palate so to speak. Delicious! The eating area is small, but quickly got crowded on a weeknight. I also saw many people picking up takeout. Our waitress was super helpful as well.

Feed up of the typical bbq or texmex I decided to eat Ramen at Kimura, It was great, but... once I received the bill I discovered that they charged me 2$ more, and when we highlit it to the waiter he has thinked we were jocking and gone! Overall I liked the food... but disappointed for the bill and the waiter's reaction!

A personal favorite whenever I am in San Antonio! Delicious ramen and yaki soba noodles. Food is full of flavor - ginger, spices, etc. Restaurant is low light and modern euro music playing in the background. Modern style with excellent prices. Portions are the perfect size to finish in one sitting.

I love Kimora...the decor and the demeanor of the waitstaff is super unconventional, but all in a great way. This is the place to go if you want superb Japanese food without the fuss and frills from truly talented chefs. Everything is fresh, the flavors explode in your mouth, and the location is a nice, added bonus (right in the middle of downtown, so if you are at a convention, seriously, walk over to Pecan Street and eat here). Get the ramen, get the charred edamame, and the Chashu Don. The sodas with ginger and Topo Chico are so refreshing, also!

Last year, I loved this place. This year - my most recent visit was full of dissatisfying details. When we went in - there were four open tables .. we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. The hostess was exactly right - 30 minutes later we were seated at one of the tables that had been open since we arrived. We were required to wait outside -- this is not the best neighborhood, and it was excruciatingly hot. If I owned the place, I would at least offer cold water to my waiting guests. All while waiting, I kept glancing in and saw the same empty tables. The restaurant does not serve cold water. There is no ice. They also do not serve ice with their water - it is just above room temperature. The menu offers no diet soda. I understand that perhaps there are no diet sodas in Japan -- but if a colleague eating with you has Type I diabetes - it's plain water for them. The food was fine. I had remembered it as so much better. Perfectly passable Raman and the gyoza were good (but pricey). There are so many great places closer to the hotels in downtown SA - that I wouldn't make the trek here again.

I have been here twice for takeout. We have ordered tantanmen and the miso ramen and gyoza. I am not sure it is a place I would go on a date, but since we get take-out the only thing I care about is the food and I think it is very good. The place can be hard to find and it is not in the greatest location, but it always seems full of happy people.

I've only had ramen a few times, a few times in what some people consider the best ramen place in Orlando and here. As far as their ramen goes it's pretty standard. They have a miso based one, a shoyu base, a tonkatsu and one that was a mix of tonkatsu broth and miso i believe. I had the last one. You have the option of adding extra ingredients; it can get pretty pricey if you add a bunch of meats. It's a very small shop with enough seating for maybe 20 people total, but alot of ramen places are. As a result you might have to wait for seating, but it didn't take very long for us. If i could give you any advice, skip the extra meat and get extra mushrooms; maybe even two orders. I don't know what they do to them, but they are just the best!

Not much to say except that the pork belly ramen I just had are fantastic. That's pretty much it. I asked the server for recommendations and he did hesitate one moment. Boy, was he right!

My husband and I visited this restaurant bc was told at hotel it was great. No! Not great! Ours dumplings were fried around the edges and not fully cooked. When brought it to the waitress attention she said yeah it's a little fried and walked away. I didn't know you could mess up kimchi, but they did. Taste horrible. The sampler dish did not look like the pic. Waitress said we were missing the dakons bc the chef experiments with the garnish so I guess tonight he decided not to use them. This is not garnish it's supposed to be part of the dish. We also ordered the ramen noodles with pork belly. No great. I would not recommend this place. Customer service was not great. Waitress came to table to ask how was ramen. I told her it's okay but not great she said okay and walked away. Never again. Save your money and time.

I tagged along with my husband on a business trip and we stopped at this when we were out walking. It is a bit pricey ( I think at least) BUT the tantanmen ramen was really good. They have great cocktails as well. I believe I had the Green lady cocktail. It was very good. My husband enjoyed a BURNT CHERRY MANHATTAN. We always seem to miss the Happy hours at these places! Anyway It was a nice change. Daniel was our waiter and he was very helpful and a really delightful young man.

Located in the heart of San Antonio, Kimura serves Japanese food in a small restaurant with oh so friendly service. Prompt service to business types, college students and local residents. A lot of customers are regulars. Extensive menu. Within walking distance from downtown hotels and the Riverwalk. Recommended.

This place had the best ramen we’ve had outside of Japan. The restaurant is small and fills up fast- so get there early. We’ll definitely be back.

Kimura is a small ramen restaurant that exceeded my expectations. I’ve lived in Japan, so thought it would be hard to find good ramen. This was the place! It’s small, so I don’t recommend going when it is the normal meal rush times. We got there at 5:30 on a Saturday and we were just in time to beat the rush. Three of us got the ramen, one got the yakisoba, and everyone really liked their dish. One person got a side of kimchi, and she liked it. We will definitely be going back!

Another gem - great food, great prices - great happy hour menu. This place is a hidden treasure. I would go to San Antonio just to eat here again.

We stopped in here for lunch today and it was wonderful. I had the bowl with spicy pork and my wife had the steak and rice entree. (both were perfect) The smell when you walk in is outstanding.

Pleasant change of pace from the Riverwalk with reasonable prices for both the food and booze. Started with some tasty yakitori - a lemony-soy tasting glaze with a buttery finish. The tantanmen had spicy ground pork that gave it a breakfasty taste, but the mushrooms were the true star of the mix. Service was pretty slow, but I was sitting by the bar and it sounded like they were having a problem with one of the broth stations. Can't fault them too much for trying to make sure quality doesn't slip. Otherwise, good experience.

I am a new lover of Ramen, and I now have to try ramen in any city I travel to. So, on my recent trip to San Antonio, I tried Kimura. I honestly can say it is some of the best Ramen I've tried. The broth was delicious and I tried their TONKOTSU pork bone broth w/ belly, and it was amazing! I will definitely return!

Walked into this place hoping to order sushi (since Google said it did have sushi) but to my surprise it was more of a ramen place with no sushi. Stay calm, I told myself - it's ok - let go and just try out this place. I was a little nervous as I had to conspicuously google some of the menu items to make sure I knew what I was getting. I've been to the Far East before and some of the items I saw the cooks putting working with were pretty authentic. It's an open kitchen so you see everything right there. I was pleasantly surprised at the Yokasoba (pork) and how tasty it was. I wanted more. Service was great too.

I love ramen and this place has the best tasting ramen. It is small and limited spacing. The seaweed salad is amazing. You got to try if you like noodles.

Great place for ramen in downtown San Antonio. Kimura is a smaller place, but has great food and personality! There is a noddle bar just as you enter the restaurant, but there is also plenty of traditional seating. They offer Japanese beer and drinks as well. We were there for the ramen, and it did not disappoint (see pic). Staff was friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience, delicious food, and definitely worth a visit!

I ordered shoyu ramen for lunch... and was very good. Make sure that you ask for chashu (braised pork)! Perfect place for a quick lunch... although the waiter told us that they have a fabulous happy hour deal!

We only had an hour for lunch and this was close to our hotel. It is small and no tables were available so we sat at the bar where we could watch the cooks. I tried the barley tea, which tasted more like coffee. The cucumber salad is great as well as the sauted bok choy. Would eat here again.

I'm a San Antonio native and I rarely leave reviews here because the food is always disappointing. This is the best ramen I have had.The pork bone broth is a creamy tasty bowl of life! Definitely take time to eat here. The reviews are accurate.

Alright ! Alright ! Alright ! Due to the overwhelming positive reviews I’ve seen on this place I decided to check it out & im so glad I did . It’s right by the greyhound bus station. My server Carrillo( sorry I know it’s something close to this ) was awesome ! I told him that it was my first experience @ Kimura. He was so nice & patient & explained everything on the menu . I got the ramen with pork broth & pork belly . YUMMY !! The spices , the colors , the taste . Everything looked , smelled & tasted beautifully . You must try this place out if you like ramen

This restaurant is small and cramped, and the service tends to be a little slow. But the ramen here is fantastic, and unlike anything that can be found elsewhere in San Antonio. I've eaten here several times, but instead of sampling around the menu, I always get the Shoyu. Beautiful presentation and delicious food.

We stumbled across this Japanese restaurant by chance, looking for a quick dinner prior to a show at the Tobin Center. Kimura is a tiny place--by the looks of it their seating capacity is thirty or less, and large parties (more than six) would be ill-advised--with a tiny menu. There are a handful of traditional appetizers such as gyoza and edamame, whole broiled fish, and several bowls with either rice or ramen noodles as a base. This is a wise move, as what Kimura does it does very well. Ingredients are fresh and flavorful, and the cooking process is quick so lots of flavor arrives at your table. On our visit my companion and I had two appetizers, chicken and green onion broiled on skewers (complimentary, as our server informed us it had been cooked for our table by mistake, a nice gesture) and gyoza, tender and piping hot dumplings filled with ground meat and vegetables. In my experience oyako don (a chicken-and-egg stew over rice) and katsu don (pork cutlet) are different dishes; here they are rather similar, both consisting of broiled meat mixed with vegetables and egg and served over rice. No matter--they were both delicious, though a little more salt would have not been unwelcome. I'm not a heavy drinker but I was intrigued by the many varieties of cocktails that went by our table; Kimura also serves the traditional Japanese spirits, beer, whiskey and sake. We were glad to have arrived early (6:30 on a Friday evening) as the place quickly filled up. Expect to wait at peak hours as Kimura no longer takes reservations. It will be worth it.

If you don't work or live in the area the location requires you park in a lot and pay so before entering the restaurant we spent $16 on parking (2 vehicles at $8 each). The restaurant is small not good for large groups. We ordered 2 different types of ramen....to add an additional meat is a cost of between $5-$10. We were informed one of the broths was saltier than the other and ordered accordingly. The waitress had miss informed us and the bowl I ordered was salty and I was unable to eat it....my husband however loved his bowl of ramen but was not happy to pay such a high cost for an additional items added in his bowl. I am not sure if I will return but my husband may???

The staff here are super friendly. If you like Japanese food, then this is a good place to try. I don't like Japanese food so I get rice and chicken skewers. They are good. The work associates I go with love this place. They say the raman is the best! I've never been frowned upon here when I ask for an actual fork (in lieu of chopsticks) and they restaurant is typically busy.

We tried Kimura for my husband's birthday and it was so delicious we went back a week later! The depth of flavor they achieve in the broth is amazing - you can taste the time and effort that went into building a spectacular flavor experience. The appetizer dumplings and edamame are very good, too! The only criticism I have is that they list ice cream on the menu...and have been out of it during both visits. Please make more!!! (We'll buy it!!!)

The nice thing about Kimura is that the serving size is not overwhelming. I got an egg-with-chicken-and-shrimp on top of rice dish that was fantastic, tasty and just enough. The place seems more like a saki bar with snacks, but the "snacks" are filling and good.

Small but perfectly formed! We went at happy hour and cocktails and appetizers were half price. Cocktails - the best we had in SA ( Green lady and Fig Manhattan). Grilled mackerel was certainly worth the wait of 20 mins . No sushi in sight but great dishes and very authentic. Relaxed, place which we will visit again.

Stopped by kimura to get our ramen on... great spot really chill, relaxed atmosphere... got a couple of appetizers with our bowls of ramen... everything was delicious and we look forward to our next visit...

This is a small, casually quaint restaurant with limited seating so get there early! It's very busy and they deserve to be! If you have to wait, then patiently wait – it’ll be worth it! Anything on the menu will be delicious and at exceptional prices. Excellent value: $14 for a large soup bowl with FRESH ingredients and UNIGUE flavours. BUT the ramen, TONKOTSO soup (pork base) is without exception the BEST SOUP I have ever had (and I’m a big soup person!). It was so big, I had a hard time finishing it (OK, I admit I added extra ramen noodles . . yumm!)! I loved that you could “add-on’s” things like noodles, extra meat or vegetables for nominal costs. I was in soup heaven! p.s. They also have an exceptional cocktails!

First, my husband and I shared the charred edamame. It was very good. As my main dish, I had the Katsudon. It was very, very good. So good that I finished every last kernel of rice and was sad when I finished it. The flavor of the Katsudon with the egg, caramelized onions, and crunchy nori is just excellent! It comes with pickled cucumbers. Can't wait to go back!

I found this small Japanese Restaurant across the street from my hotel while staying in San Antonio. What a great find and I am sad that it is not in my home town so I could eat there often. It is a no frills place, an open kitchen and a limited menu but very good food. I had a noodle dish that had levels of complexity that I have rarely experienced. The owner/chef was working as expediter and he was a perfectionist and a true professional. He also owns a restaurant next door, Gwendolyn's which I did not have a chance to visit.

Same owners and Restaurant Gwendolyn. Quiet are area away from the jostle of the River walk yet very close.

The ramens and katsudon we had were very good with . Service was a bit slow, but friendly, helpful, and efficient. It's a small place and the tables are somewhat close together. Don't be put off by the lack of asian staff- the food here is good.

We were staying at the Hotel Havana, and found this place within an easy walk. It’s small and was very crowded when we entered. We had to wait a little while for a table, but it was worth it. It seems a little crazy—five people working in a small kitchen, other staff bustling around, carting dishes to and from the dishwashing area through the dining area—but it all works out. Our host/waiter was very sweet and accommodating in spite of the pressure. We had miso ramen with tofu and shoga yakisoba. Highly recommended.

As a local in San Antonio, this tiny (but comfortable) hole in the wall has become my go-to spot for ramen. Located in the downtown area, adjacent to the bus stop, it can be a little complicated to find parking. It's all very much worth it, however. Always a good idea to remember that Tuesdays are free downtown parking! If not, hitch an Uber or ride your bike! Every time I go, I ALWAYS order the pork belly - tonkotsu broth. I've had similar bowls in other SA restaurants but nothing else compares. Their charred edamame makes for a good starter, as well. Since its a small place, I wouldn't recommend taking a party larger than 4 people. Other than that, makes for a nice outing alone or a great place for a date night.

The ramen was definitely top notch and my coworkers ordered rice dishes which were also really good. My ramen was a little skimpy on the protein but still the quality was definitely there. My only complaint was that the server really wasn't all that friendly. In fact I would venture to say that unfriendly would probably be a pretty good description. I'll definitely go back and give them a second chance, as I understand everybody has a bad day. I hope next time I have a better experience. Also side note expect to smell like the food that was cooking. They're exhaust fan doesn't work that great. I smelled like their grill for the rest of the day.

My husband and I wanted some good food to feed our soul that was off the regular River Walk path, and man this place delivered. Small, yes, some call quaint. Service was spot on. They were out of beef but they get their food fresh so when they are out they are out and we were ok with that. Great traditional Japanese Ramen house!

We started with grilled bok choy which was over salted. When the grilled veggies are too salty, you know you are in for it at a ramen place! We had miso ramen with chicken and Yaki soba (not real soba noodles) with brisket. The Yaki soba was my favorite. Service was good and water had charcoal in it! Will def be back here.

This place was a good atmosphere and good food. Water was delicious and the people were good. Small but the service and everything made everything go well. I like the ramen and the workers said they have a ramen exactly like the ramen Naruto likes so if you like Naruto and wonder how the ramen he eats taste like, I recommend this place.

This is a great date night spot. And my husband frequently goes for lunch as well. This was my first time and I was very impressed all the way around. Clean, great atmosphere and service, and fantastic food. We had the Tonkatsu ramen with pork belly. The broth has very distinct, rich flavors. And it’s as velvety smooth as you can hope for in a ramen broth. The noodles were cooked perfectly, not soggy at all. The pork belly here is different than any other pork belly I’ve had in ramen. It is much more lean, and holds much more flavor compared to others. It is still tender and even more delicious in my opinion. I had oolong tea and my husband had beer. They have a vast array of drink options. We didn’t have any appetizers this time but we will definitely return to try more on the menu!

Ok noodle option. Very busy corner at Greyhound bus stop and bus route. Required safety which was good yet some employees didn’t wear masks? Guess won’t matter next Wed. In TX . Noodles ok. Light on protein.

Tantan men were excellent. Gyoza was “Hane-tsuki” in Japanese. This is rare in the US. But Tonkotsu is a little salty for me. Then I am always sorry that American ramen is not hot enough for Japanese taste.
Amazing Ramen
I took my dad there for his Birthday. The food was delicious and the sake was good too!! Parking can be a little crazy so plan ahead!
