The BEST Thai in PDX!

By Beth F |

I absolutely love the food here! BEST Tom yum soup In town.... also amazing salad rolls (I do all chicken) - FAB! Service is kind & attentive, the atmosphere is small, quaint & clean! I've brought friends here - now they're regulars too!

Great food at an affordable price

By DeerDiane |

Very good food here at Kinara. I got the pad Thai with Crab. Very generous crab portion. Tasty delicious! I also go the veggies fried dumplings! Excellent. A great place to eat..parking is a bit of a hassle..park down around the corner by the ball field and just walk a block...it is worth it!

Lovely food and experience!

By mamahahn98 |

Six of us were in Portland on business and had a full travel day from Texas, plus some exploration around the city ... so we were hungry. TripAdvisor led us to Kinara Thai for the win! This is a small neighborhood restaurant, appears to be family owned. They had a good selection of hot and not-hot dishes. Service was extremely fast, food was delicious, huge portions and very reasonably priced. The staff were so friendly and took care of us in every way. I ate the beef and ginger stir fry with mushroom sauce - yum! Would definitely come back! Thanks for a great Portland dining experience.

Still take out only! My mouth waters just thinking of their delicious entrees!!

By LaurieB980 |

Kinara Thai is still doing only take out, and it works well as the food order can be called in and picked up at a certain time, and you can get it home while it is still hot! We have had a fish in various curry sauces on several occasions, and every single time, the entree is AMAZINGLY good! I would get that again in a heart beat!! Their Pad Thai and Cashew Chicken are also very good! As I said, my mouth is watering just THINKING of getting food there again!!

Perfect

Dropped down for lunch by Maxx Rail between visits to Japanese Garden and Rose Garden. Welcoming staff, excellent food. Drunken noodles with seafood medley, yummy. Would do that again!

The Worst Thai Food Ever

By scott m |

These positive reviews are crap. This is the worst thai food and possibly the lousiest meal I HAVE HAD IN YEARS

Warm and welcoming

By Kristin G |

We enjoyed our visit to Kinara Thai while visiting our son in the Goose Hollow area of Portland. He wanted to try curry, and loved it. My husband had fried rice and I had pad kra prow. Everything was delicious. We shared the crispy spring rolls as an appetizer. Yum! The restaurant in very cozy and decorated beautifully. The staff was kind and helpful. My son has already returned to try another variety of curry and loved it, too. Will visit again.

Lunch was a flavorful array of yumminess!

By Waimeawahine |

just finished having lunch at Kinara. We accidentally found this place in our neighborhood and I'm glad we did because I found out they deliver within a two mile radius and we live in that area. We had the lettuce larb, wonton soup, garlic and pepper chicken with special Kinara sauce (yummy), and steamed veggies with peanut sauce (very tasty, but too sweet for my taste buds). The wontons were homemade, will definitely order the unsized portion next time, as my husband loved the soup too. The garlic chicken was excellent. Go and eat, your mouth will be amazed.

Stop reading this review and just eat here. Seriously. Drunken noodles were amazing, the rice noodles seemed homemade. Fresh veggies, great seasoning, lightning fast.

A real diamond in the rough

By cskali |

The place was quaint, the staff impeccably attentive (and not at all in an intrusive way), the food delicious. I'm so glad I kept digging reviews on the internet. It's inexpensive (to give you an idea of the price, most wines were $28 - and the Riesling we had was really nice (not from some conglomerate)). The pad Thai and a basil chicken dish (for which I cannot remember the name) were delicious.

Hands down best Thai food in North America!

By Jctravel1 |

Hands down best Thai food in North America! Try the red curry, just ask for it or the yellow curry. Absolutely amazing! We don’t live here but make an effort to come every single time we are in Portland!

Neighborhood Thai at its Best

By Rosecity503 |

My husband and I dine at Kinara Thai at least one a month, and when we're really busy, I'll order over the phone and run down for a take-out meal. The restaurant is cozy and rarely crowded. The beer is cold and the dishes arrive hot from the small kitchen. The best part is that the owner, Jen, always greets us with a very warm hello and asks how our daughter is doing. Because not only does this restaurant please us old folks, it offers affordable lunches to the kids at nearby Lincoln High School. So, bring the teens, they will love it. PS Try the duck spring rolls and chicken larb. YUM.

Not quite as good as it has been in the past!

By LaurieB980 |

We have enjoyed and even LOVED eating at Kinera Thai in the past and have gone there for meals, both take-out and dine-in for the last many years as we felt it was the best Thai restaurant we have gone to in the Portland area, and we had gone to MANY other Thai places before finding it! We have noticed a small downturn in quality over the past year, and at first, thought it was merely a bad day for the chef. When they quit having the white fish in curry sauce special entree on the menu, a most favorite entree that we enjoyed several times, we were disappointed. It seems like there are no really special dishes like there once were. The Pad Thai is still quite good, but most of the other entrees we have ordered are like other Thai restaurants and not special like Kinera Thai once was. Our server, Chompu, was very kind and attentive, and we felt she did a good job that night. We are just seeing our favorite delicious entrees disappear and are disappointed by that.

Fanastic Thai in Portland!

By Ecgringo |

I first went to Kinara in 2008, and now it is my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland! I have sampled almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the Tom Ka soup and the Drunken Noodles. My wife says the mussels are the best she ever eaten. Everyone one I have taken there has had an great experience. Kinara has a wonderful staff, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food.

Fresh, tasty--great food

By Sher S |

Very friendly and helpful staff. I enjoyed spicy eggplant and tofu over jasmine rice. Really fresh --delightful. My husband had shrimp and vegetables and rice; he loved it.

Great Thai before the Timbers game

By Josh W |

Really good variety and very good food...convenient to the Max and to the Timbers game...highly recommended

Yummmmmmm!

By Navi D |

Such a cute & cuddly restaurant. The food omg omg sooooo good! I still remember the taste of the special lettuce wraps. Had to go twice in one week and I live in Salem. The Thai tea was a bit heavy but everything else was PERFECT. Can't wait to go back.

best kept secret

Very small place with excellent Thai food at a super reasonable price. Curry done right! Portion sizes are good too :)

Our "Go-To" Thai Place

By 03Val48 |

There are lots of flashy, highly advertised Thai restaurants in Portland, but it's hard to find one as good as this. We've been going here for years, taken lots of friends here, and we've never been disappointed. Everything on the menu is fresh and authentic and the specials are routinely well done. And the staff is always smiling, pleasant and accommodating, explaining dishes and ingredients. This is not a big place and it is not fancy, but you will enjoy a great meal here.

The best Tom Kah Gai

By ManzaWhoHa |

Live real close so we mostly get takeout. Most everything is good but the Tom Kah Gai is to die for. I've been trying to replicate this at home but no luck yet.

Another excellent take out dinner!

By LaurieB980 |

We again got take out food from Kinara Thai, and it not only traveled well to our home, but it was delicious. This is one of our favorite Thai restaurants in this area!

Always one of our top favorite Thai restaurants!

By LaurieB980 |

Since Kinara Thai has continued to do only take out, we call in our order, then pick it up within the following half hour, and getting our food take out doesn't disappoint! We always get their Pad Thai and often one of the specials, and a curry dish which comes with rice. The portions are large enough that we get two meals from them, and the leftovers heat up as well as the original meals.

Excellent, a must-visit standout in a foodie-ridden city full of excellence

By AGEinPrague |

If you ever craved excellent no frills Portland-tinged Thai food, you can't miss Kinara Thai. I stumbled across this with a colleague and will definitely go back. Very fresh, very tasty, nice vegan and veggie (thought I'm neither) options. VERY moderately priced, real Thai iced tea!

Wow

By Carl R |

Gentle peaceful place. Family owned, clean and delicious. Priced right and truly authentic. Don't forget to look for the specials handwritten on the wall.

FINALLY! Eat-in again available!! YEAH!!

By LaurieB980 |

We called before venturing out for dinner to check on whether we would have to do take out again, but to our delight, the gal said they were open again for eating in!! We were so excited because this is about our favorite Thai restaurant in the Portland area!! We again had a wonderful fish dish (Choo-Chee Pla) which was totally delicious as in the past, our usual Pad Thai with chicken, and one other entree with pork. All were great, and we ordered the three entrees as we wanted to have leftovers for Sunday lunch. We had plenty for two meals and totally enjoyed every bite! I read some of the other older reviews, and think things have improved greatly in the past 6-7 years as we have never had a bad meal here! Plan to return soon!

Way above the average

Small restaurant with tiny kitchen that produces food bursting with flavor. We just love ordering takeout on our way home, so easy and always delicious. Very sweet staff, so gracious. Highly recommended.

A Little Place with Big Taste

By Magicwoods |

It was our last night visiting my son in Portland and we wanted Asian. He lives in the Goose Hollow neighborhood. We were tired from a happy day traipsing around Washington Park. Kinara Thai was a few block away so we decided to give it a try. It's a small place. I think I counted five tables. In warm weather it looks like they put a few tables outside. Take-out is definitely a big part of their business. While we were there a constant stream of familiar, happy customers stepped in to pick up their dinners. Our dinner was delicious! The waitresses were very friendly and patient with our questions. The aromas wafting from the kitchen were mouth-watering. We wolfed down the veggie dumplings, golden-crisp around the edges with a darkly pleasant dipping sauce. The veggie spring rolls were next with a sweeter sauce. They lasted only a few moments on the table. My husband shared a few bites before he gobbled the rest. Next, the main course: I ordered the spicy chicken with cashews and jasmine rice. It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, just a note of heat mixed with crisply sauteed vegetables. The flavors were savory ginger and warm pepper. My husband ordered the Panang curry. It was amazing. I wanted to switch plates with him. My son had brown rice with a steamed vegetable dish and another kind of sauce. He didn't leave a grain of rice on the plate. Kinara gets a well-deserved "excellent" from me. Next time I'm in Portland I will be back.

High quality, fresh and tasty

By pkrissel |

I stopped in here at the recommendation of a friend for a pre-match meal. We were headed to a soccer game at Providence Park. 6 of us enjoyed a real treat. Some of the group were regulars and one ordered an off-menu item. I stuck with the yellow curry, a dish I usually have the first time I try a new Thai restaurant, because it is a standard dish to compare. This one was superb. The quantity was very generous. The freshness of the vegetables was first rate. The Asian eggplant (instead of the ubiquitous potatoes) was tender and tasty. There were yellow and red bell peppers that were just crisp enough, but still well cooked, The curry was a delightful combination of sweet and spicy, with a taste of basil. The brown rice was nutty and complemented the dish well. All of the other dishes at our table looked delicious and the others said they were excellent too. Reasonable prices and good service.

Another delicious meal here!! We love this place!

By LaurieB980 |

We love coming to Kinera Thai for dinner as EVERYthing we order is so good! I would always recommend getting one of their fish entrees as we have done almost every time as the curry sauce we had with the fish this time made our mouths melt! We always order three entrees so we will have enough for a second meal! The good size portions allows us to do that easily! We will be back soon, I know! I can almost taste the amazing food even as I write up this review!!

delicious food in a cozy setting

By Lauren K |

I think the food here is consistently excellent. The food has subtle flavors rather than it trying to bash you over the head with it. It's not one dimensional like some thai food can be. The flavors are complex and the result is delicious. I think it's one of the best thai places in town. It's hidden away in the Goose Hollow district, a few door down from Lincoln high school. it's worth seeking out.

Another good meal here!

By LaurieB980 |

Since Kinara Thai is still doing take out only, we called in our order and picked it up a short time later. The food as usual was delicious and maintained its hotness and flavor until we got back home. Everything was great and we especially liked the "Choo-chee Pla" which is a basa (fish) filet in a coconut cream curry sauce with green beans and other vegetables. It, like their other fish specials, was phenomenal! We also had the "Gra Prow Grob" (minced chicken with shrimp) and while it was good, it didn't beat out the fish dish! And of course, we always order the Pad Thai with chicken, and it never fails to be good! For the two of us, we always get two meals from our order as the portions are generous. And the rice that comes with the two entrees is enough for the two meals PLUS some fried rice later! And their prices are very reasonable! We will keep doing take out with hopes of someday eating in there once again!

Hidden Gem

By Seniye |

This is a small, out-of-the-way gem that is well worth seeking out. The menu is varied with all the typical dishes but also great specials I've eaten here several times and it is always delicious!

Another wonderful Thai meal!!

By LaurieB980 |

We love coming here to Kinera Thai for dinner! We always get the Pad Thai as it is delicious on each occasion that we come here. We tried a new entree, "Kinera's Garden", with pork, and it had a very tasty sauce with the vegetables and meat that we really liked. We also got the yellow curry with chicken which again was good. Unfortunately, they have stopped making and serving our favorite curry dish with white fish!! It was something we tried for the first time a few years ago, and since then, we had ordered it every time! Disappointing not to get it this night, but we are hoping our pleas to our server will get to the owner, and they will once again offer that entree that is so amazing!!

Great Thai outside of Thailand

By RoxyHolt |

We had dinner here on Saturday night, having lived in Thailand for 1.5 years we are very picky with our Thai food, but this was incredible though. The Pad Thai was absolutely delicious, so authentic and the Penang curry was almost as good. The staff were lovely and very chatty.

Excellent shrimp!

By russkwtx |

We stopped here for lunch on a gloriously pleasant day in Portland. Who says it rains here? We haven't seen any so I guess the rumors are not true. The place is modern but very small, maybe 5-6 tables. The service was efficient and friendly. I got the prawns in curry sauce and it was excellent. The prawns were large, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The yellow curry was not very spicy. I added a chicken sate for $1. The wife got the beef with crimini mushrooms. The sauce is a basic soy sauce so it was a bit salty. The beef was good but a bit chewy. She added the blue crab wontons for $1. Overall, it was a good experience and exactly the light lunch that we wanted.

Best Thai food this side of Thailand!

By 1Teapot |

If you are looking for some traditional and not so traditional Thai food that will put you in a happy place, this is the place. Excellent food and nice ambience. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

Who knew?

By susan s |

With all the Thai Restaurants in this city, who could imagine we would find the one with the most amazing drunken noodles. They really just melt in your mouth. We come to Portland probably four times a year and we always make time to come here. We have tried a lot of specialty dishes and appetizers too which are all excellent. The service is wonderful, too. Enjoy!

Delicious Thai Food

By takeahiketours |

This is a smaller restaurant near Lincoln High School and PGE Park. Some of the best thai food in Portland. Rarely a wait for a table. Friendly servers and nice atmosphere. We often go here for family dinners.

Good meals, but questioned ingredients used

By LaurieB980 |

We had dinner at Kintara Thai, a fairly new restaurant to us that has become a favorite as we searched for a new Thai restaurant to replace our long-time one that closed. Tonight, we ordered one of the board's specials which was a curry dish with fish. It was excellent, and as I was eating it, the thought briefly went through my mind that it may contain a bit of cream as it was so creamy in texture. When I asked, the server insisted that only coconut milk was used, but later that evening, I had a severe reaction to it that comes only when cow dairy products such as milk and cream are used, and although I loved the dish, I struggled with the after effects! I have never had any issues with other dishes there, and we have always enjoyed the food as well as the delightful servers and friendly welcome there. We will go back, but I will be more careful with choices made.

Outstanding Thai Food

By dvick_or |

The food here is probably the best Thai food I have ever eaten. The dishes we had were spring rolls, pad Thai, yellow chicken curry, chicken with vegetables, and Thai iced tea. The servers were friendly and we were never rushed. We could not stop talking about how good our dinners were. This is definitely a restaurant we will return to to try other menu items.

Very friendly servers and good food!

By LaurieB980 |

We went to Kinara Thai this evening upon the recommendation of our sister-in-law who had eaten there, and we were not disappointed! We had two entrees, Pad Thai with pork as well as the Garlic and Pepper Chicken stir fry. Our appetizer was and order of the egg rolls ("crispy rolls") and while they had good flavor, they were a little greasy. I would have liked a Sierra Mist to drink, but the restaurant was all out, our server said. We will most likely return for another meal here as it was overall quite good for a small Thai bistro. We also saw many take out orders being picked up, so knew they also do a good business for customers just wanting to get food ordered to eat at home.

Kinara Thai - The Best

By OVER6T |

We accidentally "Yelp'ed" our way io Kinara Thai and had a scrumptious lunch. The curry squash is to die for. Service was great, clean location. Though the door to the bathroom is located directly in one of the eating areas... not too desirable.

So good

By Debbie_Schns |

My sister and I went there to have dinner and it was absolutely amazing! We took respectively Holy Crab and Fried Crab Rice with a bottle of Riesling, the wine was very good and the food delicious! And there was so much to eat we couldn't finish our plates! The staff was very friendly too : we are used to are late and left the restaurant at 9:20 even though they close at 9:00 PM, and not once we felt pressured to leave! Would absolutely go there again! Sister's comment : "booooomba" !

Yummy

Met a couple friends for dinner and we all had excellent meals, prices are reasonable, great service and good meals! I'd definitely go again!

Great hidden restaurant close to Providence Park

By didntwinthelotto |

We were looking for a good, reasonably priced place to eat before a timbers game and found this great little place. When we got there the line was out the door but since there were only two of us and we were willing to take the little bistro table outside we got seated immediately. We had the Kinara rolls, satay and a garlic pepper chicken dish and they were all outstanding! The service was quick, the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect for a summer evening.

Great Thai

By Eric D |

I saw kinara from the tri met and it looked lovely. It was! Excellent food. Lovely local atmosphere; a real gem. It’s quite small and charming.

Really good spot

By Cursive9 |

Would recommend for good thia, we had the springs rolls which we ordered another, fresh and taste with good peanut sauce. Penang beef was awesome, felt like I was in Penang again as the flavor and feel of the dish was wonderful. Also ordered the pad Thai which the noodles had good texture and was good. Only downside was the chicken was a bit flavorless when tasted alone, but together with the meal you wouldn't much notice. The service was top notch and a cozy feeling place. Since the area is tight, you can hear everyone's Convo around you which I love for people watching, but I'm sure would irritate some. This place is a diamond in the rough, and I will return when in town.

my neighbor owns this place... i love the phad thai and my husband loves the shrimp curry and coconut rice

Close to Hotel DeLuxe

We were staying at the hotel deluxe and wanted lunch close by . Everyone's dishes were great with a nice clean taste. If we are ever back in this area of Portland we would definitely go back .

Wow! Love this food!

By DoxyandTravelLover |

We went here recently (a group of five) for the first time. It is a small place in a quiet spot. Everyone at the table ordered something different and all loved their food. We shared appetizers of dumplings and spring rolls that were fresh and excellent. I had yellow curry with tofu and it was SO AMAZING! I ordered another dish of rice to take home with half of my curry and enjoyed it just as much the next day for lunch. Can't wait until we go to Portland again, we will eat here as often as we can, great food and service!

Hidden jewel

By Carl R |

around the corner from the Goose Hollow Inn is an U presuming Thai restaurant run by the sweetest staff in Portland. We like Thai and we will not accept substandard fare. That being said, we have eaten here 3 times in two weeks. Fresh and healthy. The shrimp dishes are the favorite but don't miss the 'Kinara rolls' and the spring rolls. They used to have a seafood hot pot and if you see it on the chalkboard, I would grab it. Wine, beer, and reasonable prices. Nice evening out.

Good Thai!

By nigaude1 |

We happened upon this after parking to meet others for a quick meeting. Decided to try it and were delighted! Good food, good price, tasty sauces. Gotta' return to try other things. Friend who doesn't want spicy was very pleased.

Could eat here everyday!

By JMB1209 |

Kinara Thai is just fantastic, period. My out-of-town guest insisted that we eat here twice during her six day visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed both lunch and dinner. We tried a wide variety of dishes as we like to order several items to share, and everything was absolutely delicious and exceeded all expectations. Even the menu descriptions cannot do the food justice, it is just so wonderfully fresh and well-seasoned. The restaurant is definitely small (but in a pleasantly cozy way), and the waitstaff were all lovely. We even had a nearby table of frequent patrons suggest tweaks to regular menu items, and the restaurant was happy to comply without a hint of complaint. Overall, just a great place with amazing food that I could eat on a daily basis. HIGHLY recommend.

It just gets better and better!

By LaurieB980 |

We have been to Kinara Thai a number of times now, and again, had dinner there last evening and both of us left saying, "That was one of our best meals here!" We had our usual Pad Thai, and branched out a little with "Cashew Nuts Chicken Delight" and the chef special, "Pla-Pad-Cha", a fish dish (Basa filet) sauteed with green beans. All of these three dishes were delicious! We have found twice now that ordering the chef's special fish entree from the dining room board will always be amazingly good! We'll be back!!

Disappointing 3 Flavors: Salty, Sweet and Boring

By Petra L |

What happened? This time Kinara's Pad Thai turned out to be boring, their Drunken Noodles too salty and a their new incarnation of Pad Thai too sweet. Only 3 taste combinations? What happened to the explosion of different tastes one should experience with Thai food?
