Good could be great

By ALS |

Great service from friendly waitress Lexi. Hosts and bus crew were good. Tall handsome manager seemed nice. Food was ok but not amazing. Steak was a bit heavy on salt and I have to agree with those who say the frites were like McDonald's. Come on! Brine, par cook, then fry. And def hand cut them please. NOLA oyster was a letdown.

Ate Every Bite

We took my wife here for a Mother's Day Eve dinner and it did not disappoint. The staff was welcoming and pleasant. Our server Zach was fantastic and I would recommend him. Our food was wonderful and we all ate every bite. The highlights were the Pork Belly Special and the Grilled Octopus. Really everything we ordered was delicious. Can't wait to go back.

What to eat, what to eat?

We could come back and order more food off the menu and it would be delicious. We had a hard time choosing. FOOD: We had the oysters. Each person had their favorite. As another reviewer said, the presentation was beautiful in the copper dish, however, the half shell oysters were fresh and just as good as the wood-fired ones. The crudo was fresh, and the brussel sprouts were amazing. I had the scallops which were made very well. I couldn't really tell they were "BBQ" scallops. My friend had the Italian beef which she said she loved. My other friend had the duck/pumpkin pasta. She also loved it but thought the pasta was overcooked and it would've benefited from something crunchy on top. The other person in our group had the salmon and said she loved it as well. We also split the apple dessert and thought the s'mores bar was also fantastic. DRINKS: I had the fine gin and tonic. It was okay. I wouldn't order that again. My friend had the wrinkled tie and she said that each sip tasted different from the last; but she liked it. We also had the Oaxacan refashioned and the regular old fashioned. Both of these were delicious. The milk maid was just okay. Overall, I'm glad we went. I would go back for the happy hour and try more food from the menu.

Amazing

Amazing - we went as a family and they accommodated our needy allergies. The food was very good and the service was great! We peeked upstairs at the bar area and looks like a cute spot for food or happy hour.

Delicious dinner

We had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. My husband ordered a burger, and my daughter and I ordered pasta. We also had an appetizer of chicken wings. Everything was tasty and delicious! The waiter was terrific as well. When we visit Chicago again, we will be back!

Love the vibe

Was taken here for a team work lunch. Pleasantly surprised how lovey the vibe was. As soon as you walk in you can smell the fireplace/hearth, but not too strong. Food was good. I ordered the Steak Frites which I ordered medium rare and was cooked to perfection. There were options for those who are vegetarian. Prices weren’t too bad given the historical location. I would definitely visit here again with friends.

Man, Food, Fire!

Unique menu and stellar wine list! I really enjoyed the wood fired Brussels sprouts, cream spinach oysters on the half shell served on a bed of smoldering wood chips! The beef tenderloin skewer was melt in your mouth tender and delicious. They carry an obscure red wine from Portugal that I hope I can find again, thrilling flavors and a long finish. Don't miss this place!

Our fancy dinner

By Bull City Eats |

This was our last family dinner during a weeklong stay in Chicago. We picked this restaurant because it was close to Willis Tower which we planned to visit as well. I’m not a real foodie and I’m not impressed with overpriced dining establishments so I didn’t have many expectations for this place. But I went in with an open mind. I ended up getting the Scallops and Onion brûlée. The scallops were perfect. They were large but only three of them. But again, cooked perfectly, tasty and a great choice if you love seafood and want to splurge a little. They were paired with peas and bacon confit and until this night I was never a fan of peas but these were amazing. The Onion brûlée was just okay. It didn’t have the texture or flavor I anticipated so I ended up not eating most of it. The other members of my party had pasta with the lobster tail (which was just the shell) and the lobster meat was already in the pasta. Our son was disappointed he didn’t get a full lobster tail but he did enjoy the pasta. The Hasselbeck potatoes we a bust. No one at our table enjoyed them and they went wasted. The lobster bisque was creamy and delicious, the oysters were just meh, and the drinks were as expected. Overall we spent well over $200 for an average meal, half of which was wasted. But sometimes it isn’t about the money it’s about the experience and hopefully our kids enjoyed they “fancy” meal.

Kindling - Watch what else is coming!!

Harry our waiter was supreme - service #1 - needs a raise!! So accommodating and welcoming, as this was our first time in Chicago. Made us feel at home. General Manager, Simon - another great person on-site, that made our visit excellent. Thanks.

Disappointing considering the price

By Jimvin |

I eat at a variety of establishments and I liked the looked of this menu but in reality the meal was distinctively average. Unfortunately, the Deluxe burger had far too much pepper, it was overpowering but, being on time constraints and hungry, I ate it. I gave feedback afterwards and hopefully that will be passed on to the chef. Not impressed. Being a solo traveller I asked for sparkling water and they brought a whole litre, they could have checked whether I wanted that much. Could have been better.
