Remarkably Good & Aesthetically Pleasing

By Herstory_62 |

A newcomer to this neighborhood corner, modest Kinme offers remarkably good, aesthetically pleasing & very fresh Japanese food at reasonable prices. The $10 lunch special offering, among other choices, savory Miso & a wide arrange of sushi rolls is one of the best buys in Center City.

Amazing experience!

The food here was so amazing! Some friends and I came during restaurant week and got 4 courses for $35. I had the crispy tuna rice, mushroom gyoza, sushi platter, and a mango ice cream in a bowl made of a mango! The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was great even though they were busy. I would love to return and try food from their regular menu! I’d highly recommend this restaurant, and it’s also in a really fun part of philly within walking distance of lots of bars. Great choice!

The BEST sushi in Philly, hands down

By SteveM |

With the plethora of amazing sushi restaurants in Philly, along comes this new gem in Washington Square that serves the most creative sushi in the city!! Second to none, they always offer fish that is new and unusual, always beautifully presented. I also love the Branzino filet that is tender, simply seasoned with olive oil and lemon, and just delicious. My favorite app is their mushroom gyoza, with a mushroom puree that makes for pockets of sensational flavor and texture. This little family owned restaurant deserves many accolades and recognition that they can compete with the other top rated restaurants in Philly. They also have an phenomenal daily lunch special. Go and eat there; you won't regret it!!!

Fabulous lunch spot.

Great ambience, lots of daylight, fresh fish. The miso soup uses white miso paste and comes elegantly served with three types of mushrooms in a modern design white fine china bowl. The sweet potato roll is a combination of delicate flavors not to be missed. The service is very attentive—being offered lemon slices with water is always a nice touch. The restaurant is very accommodating about substitutions and special requests: if you do not want your rolls spicy—no problem. We did not want the chocolate wonton, just the green tea ice cream it normally comes with and that’s what we got. It is hard to argue with fine dining at take-out prices.

Modest place, impressive sushi

By Marylis S |

Though there are two or three high-end, high-cost establishments that have elevated Philadelphia to sushi respectability, I'm still searching for that elusive restaurant that can satisfy one's craving for decent sushi at moderate prices. Kinme may just fit that bill. This modest, 28-seat BYOB restaurant offers fresh, well seasoned nigiri and creative rolls that don't break the bank. The kitchen offers enough variety---including sea bream, sea urchin, live scallop and golden eye snapper---to excite sushi lovers. There are also cooked dishes such as miso/tonkatsu ramen, chicken or pork katsu and seared salmon when one is not in the mood for raw fish. The original rolls are amusingly named after Broadway hits---I tried "Wicked" --eel tempura, cucumber in a spinach-soy wrap topped by lobster salad and "Phantom"---shrimp tempura, avocado, crispy shallots crowned with scallop sashimi, yuzu cream and a sprinkling of tobiko. Both were pretty to look at, deliciously complex without being overwhelming; the different ingredients complemented each other. The nigiri pieces I ordered---salmon, Ikura and uni were sparklingly fresh; the rice cooked and seaoned well and the accompanying pickled ginger outstanding. The wasabi, though not top rate was more gentle to the palate than the usual colored horseradish. My husband, who was inordinately hungry that evening, ordered the ramen and was very pleased; the broth was tastily complex, the ingredients well integrated. Drawbacks: the tables are small and get overcrowded by the serving plates---especially if your order more than one of the generously portioned rolls. The lighting also needs improvement---I needed my lighted, magnifier app to read the menu! But these are minor issues. The quality of the sushi more than makes up for these. As well the service is attentive and warm. We will be back often. And oh yes---they offer takeout and lunch bento boxes.

Not Your Typical Sushi

Very good, fresh sushi. Not the same super crunch or rainbow roll menu, but a variety of different choices. We enjoyed all we tried. The buns were also amazing. Small restaurant. Close tables.

Happy Hour mango margaritas!

We had a really delicious meal at Kinme (and complimentary Happy Hour mango margaritas). I had the Dragon Roll and my husband the Phantom Roll. We shared the Seaweed Salad and Edamame. Besides the margaritas, we love the Rose Tea.

DO NOT EAT HERE

By Elizabeth R |

DO NOT EAT HERE. Terrible service. Manager called me to tell me i did not tip the driver. When i stated i did and that i gave her cash, she then tried to shame me for leaving a CASH tip at my apartment door for my delivery and that my "tip wasn't large enough." My apartment is less than 4 blocks from the restaurant and last i heard, a tip is a gratuity for good service, not an order being delivered over 45 minutes late. The manager then stated it was rude and disrespectful to leave cash outside my door and that we should be HANDING it to the driver. I reminded her we are in the middle of a PANDEMIC. She stated they did not care. My fiancé is a surgeon who works in the hospital with patients everyday and has to be very careful to serve those in need. How safe is this restaurant? They don't want your service, they don't care about your safety, and their drivers will "only deliver if the tip is worth it" otherwise you will wait for an hour and a half for your food. It's a shame that a business cannot respect a pandemic or a loyal customer who placed larger orders from them almost weekly to keep them alive during the pandemic. Shame on them. There are plenty of other sushi restaurants in the city that treat their customers much better.

a find in the neighborhood

By animaleyedoc |

went by a few months ago and decided to go tonight , a sunday. We were the only ones in the restaurant and considered leaving but i insisted we stay..glad I did..had roasted brussel sprouts, tuna salad, tuna sushi, seaweed salad and a chocolate mouse for desert. The presentations were excellent, the food was excellent, the service was excellent and we will certainly go back. They do no advertising , strictly word of mouth and i will spread the word ..a great neighborhood find..

Phenomenal sushi

By Denise M |

Tucked in a corner near 12th and Locust, this little gem offers the best sushi in the city, with truly original offerings instead of the usual 5 or 6 you always get on a traditional sushi deluxe plate. Kinme is actually the name of one of the fish they serve on the sushi platter.I love to order little things, like their mushroom gyoza, full of delicate mushroom mousse, their seaweed salad, the spicy wings and the absolutely delicious pork buns that come with a nice garlic sauce and slices of crispy cucumber. I tried their Branzino once that came perfectly baked, a big treat for someone who never commits to a full entree. It was absolutely delicious. It is a byob, so come prepared, but do go because we love this new neighborhood addition. If I could, we would eat here once a week! They have a $10 lunch special by the way, well worth checking out.

Great sushi, fantastic variety and fair prices

My wife and teenage kids loved Kinme. Dozens of different types of sushi rolls, many we have never had before. Everything we tried was great. Waitress was very friendly. Will definitely be back.

Phenomenal creative sushi!

This restaurant was so good! Very creative sushi rolls and the staff was really knowledgeable. Quality was fantastic. Before going just know it’s BYOB! Has we known we would have picked up a bottle or two beforehand.
