Great for good, casual sushi dinner

By DJMXX |

Excellent option for good quality and creative sushi in a clean, bright environment with very quick and friendly service. I had the Al Capone roll, a salmon avocado roll, small house salad that had far more going on than the typical house salad and a really pleasant and perfectly chilled glass of Pinot Grigio. My daughter enjoyed her very generous portion of ramen soup, salad, Pinot Grigio and the Tobiko Nigiri. Reasonable prices add up to a great mid-week dinner option with the convenience of stopping at Whole Foods to pick up incidentals on the way out!

Great Value and Nice Sushi Restaurant!

A must-visit sushi place every time I'm in San Diego. The Chirashi offers great value for money. Each slice of fish showcases the chef's expert knife skills and meticulous selection.

Atmosphere: small, bright, and clean. Service: very good. Food: sushi was fantastic!

When in California I try to go to as many sushi restaurants as possible. Kinoyume is the best so far in San Diego. My friend comes to San Diego at least 3 times a year and has always made this place his first stop to grab a bite. This time I was able to come with him. The place is small bright and clean. We came for lunch about 1:00 p.m., sat at the sushi bar, the place was pretty busy, seemed a bit short staffed. We waited to a bit, until the Sushi Chef was kind enough to give our order directly to him. We ordered a couple beers, hot sake, Salmon and Eel Nigiri, Sweet Shrimp, Walk on the Beach, Spicy Tuna and a Salmon Skin Handroll, Yellowtail Scallion and a Moonwalker Roll. Not one complaint, all fantastic. Fish was fresh, presentation and service all great. Atmosphere: small, bright, and clean. Service: very good. Food: sushi was fantastic!

Some of the best sushi I have ever had

By dshaystennessee |

Went here for dinner while we are on a college visit. This place has some of the best sushi I have ever had. The pork belly kino (Bao bun) is outstanding. Great flavor and beautiful presentation. The sushi is the star here. The rainbow roll was outstanding. Great spice and flavor. The tuna sashimi was superb. Very flavorful and super fresh. The Tokyo roll without crab was amazing. The shrimp, beef, goat cheese and onions and asparagus were a perfect combination. Service was attentive. For a first time visit I Am looking forward to coming back again. Thank you!

Picked up the 911 and crunch

Picked up the 911 and crunch roll and tempura last night. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality. We arrived early for our pickup and staff was kind and efficient

Decent Sushi - TAKEAWAY

By Fordstaff |

The sushi was all FINE. Not over-the-top amazing, but a decent NOTCH UP from Whole Foods sushi. The fish was fresh, the presentation was great in take-out boxes. I only experienced sushi or sashimi - nothing else. The takeout experience was consistently poor - took SO LONG to get anything I ordered.

Yummy Sushi Great Staff!

Solid sushi destination. Extremely attentive staff and a good menu filled with interesting roll selections. I sat at the bar and bantered with the sushi chefs who were very friendly.

Sushi too good for a mall

By santjordi |

This little restaurant tucked into a mall was a real surprise when it opened. I didn’t have vet high hopes, but they really out did themselves. A pleasant contemporary Japanese decor The winner here is the sushi. They have a large selection of very fresh fish. A board with rotating specials. A great selection of “house designed”rolls and a decent selection of sake too. Count on fresh fish, well cut and thoughtfully prepared. I didn’t love the ramen, but I’m very picky. I love the sushi here and use them to entertain before going to performances at UC San Diego’s ArtPower

Lots of selection and generous portions

By RoadtripMommy |

It is best to come with more people as the choices are vast and portions are generous. We wish we could’ve tried more rolls. We ordered the veggie roll and the Poseidon. The Poseidon roll was amazing with the lobster cooked perfectly. We also ordered a ramen which was also very large. If we are in La Jolla again we would love to return. Service was prompt.

Wonderful Japanese restaurant in the corner of a shopping center

We were just looking for lunch and spotted this location next to CVS where we were picking up a cojple of things. We have eaten at many Shushi restauants and this one is as good as any. We both had the lunch bento box, the Chicken teriaki was only $13! About half the guests were oriental which is a great sign for any Shushi restaurant. Service was extreamly helpful and pleasant. We saw a number of great looking dishes being served to other guests, this is a do not miss place.
