enticing menu, excellent ingredients, excellent preparation

By Pippiduck |

A dear friend who lives in the Castro area suggested that we try this restaurant close to his house. The menu looked intriguing. We were delighted to be able to secure a table for 4 on the day we called, not easy in San Francisco!. And we were certainly lucky to be seated for soon after we were the line to get in was at least an hour wait. Our meal was excellent and unhurried. We shared two different soups - both were delicious, and we als indulged with a starter of pumpkin fries. We tried two main dishes -- "Asia" salmon main, and the Pacific Pad Thai. Wonderful! Lovely plating of all the dishes. But most important: excellent ingredients, generous portions, and excellent preparations. The service was excellent despite the full house of diners. We received lots of attention and our dishes were timed properly. It was a truly enjoyable dinner and evening. We look forward to returning and to trying out many of the other enticing dishes.

Wow! Just wow!

By Kaflai |

Tried their Mascarpone stuffed french toast & New England Burger! Gosh, it was just too good! The french toast is a must order dish where the crush is so crunchy, flavourful & delicious. Staffs are indeed friendly and I really don't mind coming back to visit and have their french toast again!

Tasty and fresh breakfast

By AmusedKaliningrad |

We went for an almost brunch on a Sunday morning. Delicious mushroom omelette, and yummy coconut coffee. A little crowded, but you could still hear yourself think. A little neighbourhood find, really.

Fabulous. Make sure you eat here.

By Sue T |

Just had a fabulous breakfast here. Lovely folk, amazing menu and beautiful presentation. We read about this on Trip Advisor and it totally lived up to its amazing reputation.

DELICIOUS breakfast- amazing Millionaire's Bacon. Overall, just great!

By SFTRVLR |

Really surprised at the high quality of the food here. The Millionaire's Bacon was delicious with many different varieties. All the food was great- the wedge fries were really great- recommend highly

Nice atmosphere

By VGR001 |

We dined here based on a local's advice and were overall pleased even though the service was not top notch. Our waitress seemed to be in a rush, didn't catch that the food delivered was not as ordered, slow to bring our bill, etc. Another person that I assume was the manager seemed to sense our frustration and stepped in to check on us at the end. The food was good overall and worth another visit the next time we visit San Francisco.

Great meal, great service

By kkjm85210 |

Visited Kitchen Story as a family (two adults and two teens) on a Friday night after arriving in San Francisco. Despite having no reservation we were lucky to get a table. Good menu choice with various US and Asian favourites. Food arrived promptly and was delicious; we ordered the ‘Burgah Boy’, tuna salad, steamed mussels and chicken noodle soup. All portions were a good size and reasonably priced for what appears to be a very popular eatery. Staff were friendly and efficient and there was a good but loud atmosphere in the restaurant. We spent $155, including 20% tip, for four meals, two local beers, two large merlot and two 7UP.

Amazing brunch........hope to come back someday!!

By Cheryl O |

Wow I loved this place! Myself and 4 friends came for brunch here on Sunday Aug 27th and it was divine. There was a big queue outside but we were seated in a matter of minutes. I thought the atmosphere was great - very busy and buzzy! The food was amazing! I had the Belly Rancheros (Slow braised Kurobuta pork belly, avocado, arugula, Kimchi Pico De Gallo, spicy guacamole, corn tortilla) and Millionaires Bloody Mary - that Millionaires bacon is just out of this world!! I would love to come back here someday!

Superlative Thai-California fusion

By Daniele T |

Rich tastes at fair prices. Panang curry, bacon wrapped scallop and Ahi tuna salad are superlative. Comfortable as well animated atmosphere.

Good Brunchin'

By tiffany c |

Came here with my girlfriends for brunch. There was a lot of people waiting, but thankfully my friend made reservations. The food there was average, the service was good and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and my company.

Ok... But I would go back

By Brinbri |

To start things off we went for an 8:30 breakfast. Two of the four of us arrived and asked for a table.... They gave us attitude and made us wait until all arrived. I get the policy; but the place was empty. Food was ok basic breakfast.... But expensive. I guess I would go back.

One of my SF staples!

By Rosie B |

Every time I come to San Francisco, I go to kitchen story at least once. I adore the cute atmosphere, the book theme, the $19 bottomless mimosas, chicken mango sausage, and a super tasty granola/yogurt dish. This time, though, I came in an hour before it closed (lunch service, that is) and the staff was not very friendly. I felt rushed throughout my time there and that affected my overall enjoyment. I will still come back again, though!

Love the atmosphere and variety of food

By Karen Laos |

Get the burger with Millionaire Bacon on it - soaked in maple syrup and baked in the oven for hours. Delish! They have healthy options, as well. Delicious food with a great variety in their menu. Fun atmosphere; warm, inviting. And, the fun ending - the bill comes paperclipped to a book. You just never know what the book with be.

Long line rain or shine! Worth the wait!

By sarahpangkey |

The line is crazy but it's worth waiting! They manage the crowd very well and the line moves pretty quickly. Service was great, food served promptly. Had a New England burger and it was awesome!! Love the bacon in it too! Perfect hangover cure. Went on a saturday morning so it was very crowded and loud inside!

Bloomin' good breakfast.

By sarahrose12018 |

We had breakfast here and it was fantastic. I had the ricotta hotcakes with the millionaires bacon. My other half had scrambled egg, millionaires bacon, croissant and potato. The bacon was seriously good, we both agreed it was the best bacon we'd had in a long time. Staff were friendly and atentive.

Good brunch !

By Beauty Outside |

I had Millionaire’s Bacon Flight, Millionaire’s Benedict, and Mascarpone Stuffed Deep Fried French Toast. I was satisfied with all of them. The french toast are very crispy outside, but flavourful soft creamy inside. The bacons are very tasty, though there are parts that are rather charred on the sampler.

San Francisco jewel!

By mds3012 |

This restaurant was highly recommended by my sister, and I am so glad I listened to her! One of the best meals we ate while in San Francisco was enjoyed at Kitchen Story. Really. And we dined very well the entire time we were there. We went for breakfast but went about mid-morning on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds, and we were seated immediately. Service was very good, and the food was amazing. I had the Hass omelette, and it was delicious. The presentation was really nice. I would definitely go again, given the opportunity.

Food is good, service poor

By Amy F |

We went for a quick bite, booking in advance. The food was tasty and looked good. The service was distracted and a bit rude. We were made to feel in the way and like we were putting them out.

Just Phenomenally Amazing Brunch with a Korean Twist.

By Norma O |

I can't say a bad thing about this place. First they were open early on July 4th Morning. Everything I ate was simply incredible and of course bottomless mimosas! I was blown away at how good it was. Please mail some of that goodness to the east coast.

Superb food in cute building

By Sandy K |

Food and service is excellent. Korean style food in a very different style and it is the best. Nice neighborhood and ver trendy and super safe.

Funky but great food

By spnsclem |

Place is very casual and kind of funky. Not real big and a little loud...but food is phenomenal. Asian fusion type of place. Millionaire’s bacon a must have (signature dish)...I had a “spaghetti” dish like I have never had. Seafood (mussels, calamari, scallops and shrimp) with and Asian sauce. Would go back and have it again. We also had the short rib tacos with pork belly...all perfectly cooked. Potions are large so if yur hungry, go there. Went there for dinner but I am guessing their breakfast/brunch is probably one of a kind.

Excellent breakfast

By Traveller987Haifa |

Although it is on the price high end the service is fast the food is tasty and nice setting. My Benedict eggs were Perfect And the cappuccino as well.

Great neighborhood restaurant in the Castro area

By Jordanjc21 |

Someone recommended this place to me as a good brunch option in the Castro area. One night trying to figure out where to go for dinner, I looked at this restaurant's website and saw that it served dinner. It was a 20-minute drive from where I was at the time. I'm glad I made the trip. This cozy neighborhood restaurant has great atmosphere/decoration and very tasty food. I had a delicious panang curry and the asparagus appetizer. Both great options. The place is a little noisy, but I would go back in a heartbeat and taste the rest of the menu.

THE brunch

By ECAM53 |

This restaurant is famous for its brunch. It was the best one that we had while in San Francisco. The restaurant received an award for its bloody mary. The bacon is a must, the place is really nice, the music, the service. A great experience.

I can never have enough!

By mikelalv |

Probably my tenth visit, and not the last! If you want a great spot for breakfast or brunch, DONT BE A FOOL AND VISIT!!! Food is delicious and all ingredients are of high quality. The atmosphere is great and relaxing mid week and vibrant and enjoyable on weekends! I would always suggest one thing tho: BOOK IN ADVANCE!

No Real Story Here

By scottderrick |

We came here for breakfast after doing a cursory online search of restaurants that served breakfast or brunch since we were nearby. I remember when the space was a different restaurant that made it’s own baked goods and was a popular local spot with lines outside on the weekends, a bit scruffy but hefty portions of decent food at reasonable prices. Now it’s a different restaurant with fresh baked offerings but a bit tarted up with decorations all over the place, still scruffy because of the poor cleaning though not surprising given the profusion of knick knacks. Oh yes, the prices have gone up considerably while the portions though still generous, have remained the same. Not a great value but not cheap eats. The service was a bit unprofessional, seems like all family members, but good enough. The food seems to aim higher that what they’re capable of but it comes out more charming than a total fail.

Great lunch!!!

By ello3811 |

Great lunch, I had the eggs Benedict with a chicken sausage patty. Really good, however personally not too big with chicken on an eggs Benedict, but I am not going to give them a bad review just because of my preference I should have looked at menu closer. My 8yr old son tried the millionaire bacon and OMG!!’ It is amazing!! He also had the ricotta pancakes also amazing, light, fluffy, delicious with real maple sirup.

Dog friendly and amazing food

By jbnoel87 |

Excellent food and very accommodating, allowed us to bring our dog with us. The iced vanilla orange latte was excellent. The flavours are definitely ones we never thought to put together but we were not disappointed. It was pricey but totally worth it.

Super Fresh!

By Carol B |

Delicious and fresh menu! We had the Primavera Omelet, Monte Cristo and Grilled Veggie Melt. Beautiful presentation and everything was yummy!

Interesting and Fun

By samweinbergersf |

We had mainly Thai type dishes which were all tasty, adequately spicy and the portions were well sized. Seemed a bit expensive for what it is, as well.

The BIG breakfast

By Sudbury9122 |

We ate two meals here, including a very good avocado salad for lunch. But breakfast/brunch is the big show: we tried the outrageous millionaire's bacon with the deep-fried french toast plus the egg plate with rainbow potatoes. Both were excellent. Pleasant and responsive staff. Plenty of outdoor seating.

Interesting & delicious food

By Dennis B |

We've enjoyed every meal at Kitchen Story. The breakfast & lunch menu is very interesting & full of difficult choices. No matter what, if you like bacon, you must order the millionaire's bacon! Dinners have also been consistently wonderful. The place gets pretty packed, especially at dinner time so reservations are a very good idea. Our only issue really is that dining during the dinner hour, when the place is packed, it is practically impossible to have an audible conversation. For that reason we now go for only breakfast or lunch meals there.

Horrible attention

By Michelly A |

Bad place. Attorney Nelson made little case, charged $6 more and delivered our wrong order. Completely bad service.

Interesting food!

By OctoberLove |

We stopped here in a whim when we arrived in San Francisco during our vacation when we met up with friends. The food was american-asian fusion. Interesting and delicious! Service was sub-par but they were busy and everyone was nice.

Wow

By fashiondiner |

Wow - so good and portions huge you order and have to kind of pick what you eat from what is served as all delicious but so much you will never be able to finish all - noon on a Saturday and literally 75 people in line outside!!! Says a lot. Millionaires bacon is great and the potatoes with cheese OMG never even tasted the eggs and am so full and was so good

Perfect brunch

By Anne H |

We saw this restaurant from an Uber car and visited the next day. We did not have a booking but were seat quite quickly and the friendly and prompt service helped make a great morning. Our food was hot, tasted good and was fresh. Their bacon is worth the visit! Will go again and fully recommend this venue.

Worth the wait

By Sue W |

We waited over an hour on a Saturday morning for brunch. They do not take reservations. The food was very good, the service was friendly, and they kept the coffee cup filled. The Millionaires bacon was featured - it looked like everyone in the place had ordered it. Brunch for 4 cost $120 including tip.

Loud and disorganized

By Malte S |

Kitchen Story felt like a victim of it's own success when we visited on a Saturday night. Thanks to a reservation we did not have to wait for a table of four. Service was friendly, but not very present. Three main dishes showed up, but the fourth not for another 10 minutes. The appetizer plates never got cleared. The staff seemed in over their head. Too bad, as the food was actually nice. As the evening went on the noise level became so loud, that we could not hold a conversation, no matter how hard we tried.

Breakfast

By Jessie R |

I was excited to try this place and was left underwhelmed. We ordered the Millionaire’s bacon flight which was $24 for 4 slices of bacon. Most of the pieces were very fatty. My favorite flavor was the citron but I wouldn’t order Millionaires bacon again. We also ordered the deep fried French toast and while it was good, it wasn’t great. I thought it was too greasy and should have been paired with a berry syrup instead of maple.

Nice experience

By mwdcfll |

My friend had the Pad Thai and raved about it. Another friend enjoyed the short rib tacos. Very delicious. I had the burger and found it rather tasteless and the bun was not the freshest bread. I would go back and order something else. Great location and festive ambience.

Peaceful and Delicious and VERY Generous

By 2acorns |

I wanted a leisurely breakfast away from Union Square where I was staying. My plan was to tour Mission Dolores, so I chose this spot for eats. What a great choice! It was a weekday, so there were plenty of open tables, but I'm sure it gets busy. There was no way I could finish all the great food and I loved the woods and steel urban vibe. I figured out the bus system to get there and it was well worth it.

I love the burgers here.

By Lachlan P |

I go to San Francisco often and I always make sure to go to kitchen Story at least once. The food is always great and the restaurant is always being with people. There is a reason for that.

Amazing food and staff

By Nathalie V |

We came for breakfast when they opened and thank god we did. Our party was large and we had read that there is a line so we got in early. Food came out at the same time and it was delicious, the Millionaire’s bacon flight is great to sample with a group and then I got the avacado toast with corn and I have never had anything so tasteful. My family enjoyed the French toast as well. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. And try the peach candy !!!

A fun eatery of high quality

By TrevorCrichton |

Really vibrant eatery on the corner of Sanchez and 16th Streets. The main cuisine is asian, tending towards Thai, and Both the quality and quantity are extremely high. The restaurant very popular with the student fraternity and is bustling with excited noise and conversations. The service was very good, not withstanding how busy the place was. We can recommend a Monterey Riesling to go with the Thai food - it was fruity and aromatic, yet not sweet. Prices are very reasonable. A really good place to eat.

Asian fusion

By BPenuliar2015 |

This is a popular restaurant in the Church /16th street area. Ordered the scallops wrapped in bacon (yummy) and the Sexy Aloha. The latter is a huge serving - lots of shrimps and served in a pineapple . A little bland for my taste.

Perfect Breakfast & Service

By Lance11 |

Had the stuffed French toast which was scrumptious. The millionaire bacon was decadent but the scrambled eggs were a lesson in perfection.

The Bread man

By nolanknows |

Made an online reservation for 2 in this fine establishment. The menu was excellent, so much energy and variety. I went for a basic pad Thai with chicken which didn't disappoint. The better half had the 'Castro Sea' which was excellent. If in San Fran stop in for dinner!

Delicious Fall Food

By Dionne S |

I had lunch here and really enjoyed the food and the location. The warm kale salad was just the thing for a brisk fall day.

Yum

By kjoy95 |

Desperately hungry and stopped at this cute place on the corner. The food was of the Asian variety mostly but provided options for those not interested in Asian fare. Absolutely delicious, loved my pumpkin curry and my companions thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. Great atmosphere, okay service-could have been a little more attentive with drinks but overall recommend this place! Located not far off the hot spots in the Castro district, check it out.

California breakfast as art

By Ben G |

Traditional American fare with a Vietnamese twist. We had omelettes and salads for breakfast and they were excellent. Fluffy eggs, plenty of goodies inside, and light yet doughy bread to die for. What's fun is the presentation is gorgeous. Our omelette arrived, hidden underneath an attractive bed of arugula and shredded parmesan. Super interesting, so I started looking around the restaurant to see how other entrees were presented. Good coffee too!

Grand Brunch

By michael s |

Visited on recommendation from our B&B Very nice neighborhood ambiance Bloody Mary -awesome Millionaire bacon Benedict =the top 2of any I've had ( and I've had lots) This place ROCKS-do yourself a favor and go! Reserve or long wait (worth it)

Very very good food

By Swegnson |

My wife, adult daughter and I recently ate dinner here on a week night. The place is not particularly large; we were lucky to get the last table at about 6:10 pm. Shortly after our arrival there was a line out the door, so I would recommend reservations. The food was uniformly excellent and came quite quickly. We will definitely return.

DELISH, GREAT SERVICE, AWESOME MENU: BREAKFAST!!

By 2011Italy |

This place was just a couple of blocks from our rented apartment and it had great reviews so we checked it out. WONDERFUL menu, great for both my vegetarian/vegan-leaning daughter and me. Everything was fantastic from the funky and charming décor to the superb service to the meal itself. We'll be back!!

Please stop rushing patrons!

By Tesh |

We dined in on a Friday night and we were prompt for our 7:30 reservation. Once we were seated, we engaged in conversation because that is what friends do. I would almost venture to say our waiter was badgering us to order because he would approach us every 3-5 minutes to ask if we were ready to order. At one point, I had to ask him why he was rushing us and his response was that he wanted to make sure we received our dinner order in time. This seemed like a good reason, so I let the badgering slide until our order came out in under five minutes. At this point, I understood that the waiter was trying to turn the tables as quickly as possible. With regards to the food, it seemed very standard Thai food and nothing exceptional at all.

Awesome fresh food!

By Anna M |

Went here during the great SF heat wave, and sat with my friends at the bar. Staff was really friendly, and all the food was amazing. Kitchen story offers brunch classics with gourmet twists, Thai food and really awesome dinner salads (I got the salad with fresh tuna). An awesome slightly hidden gem in the neighborhood.

Excellent food

By benteW |

We lived in an Airbnb just a few blocks away, and just came here for an easy dinner, but were blown away. It was a busy Thursday evening, so we could only get a seat in the bar. From here we could really follow the kitchen and see, all those delicious things they were sending out. We really enjoyed our dinner so much, that we came back the next days for brunch, And we did not get disapointed at all. Absolutly worth a visit. Yes - they are very busy, but we cannot complain about the service.

EggCellent place to have brunch!

By Krisbyman |

I went for brunch with some friends at around 1pm, it wasn't too busy at that point. The service was quick, the food was seriously top notch & the drinks were good - the free strawberry infused water was refreshing too. I've included pics of the food & menu so you're prepared, I couldn't make my mind up but chose the Mom's Benedict with sausage which was delicious. We tried the millionaires bacon & that was tasty too. A very good choice.

Amazing Food, Decent Pricing, Great Atmosphere

By Audobell |

Highly recommended. This restaurant had a great selection of food. There was a line to get in but only about 20 minutes wait. Great music and atmosphere. The eggs Benedict is outrageously good and all the sides items and fruits that come with the entrees are quality. Pricing is decent for San Francisco.

Best brunch ever!

By cecismith70 |

We had the best brunch at the Kitchen Story. We had the mushroom omelette and the poached eggs. My kid had the mickey pancakes which were AMAZING. The orange juice was fresh! What a wonderful gem for brunch! Highly recommended!

Delicious!

By 150hotelnightsayear |

We did not plan on eating here, and changed at the last minute. So glad we did! It was flavorful and satisfying. The ambience is okay, but the food makes you want more. The choices of Thai, fusion, burgers ... food and delicious. Don’t fill up on the chips they bring ... those aren’t so interesting and will take up room for the good stuff. But do have desert... the fruit mousse. Yum.

Good food, but take ear plugs!

By Jasperco |

Kitchen Story is deservedly popular for the food it serves, but it’s not very big and gets crowded, so the noise levels do rise! The cooking is predominantly Asian, especially SE Asian, in flavour. Panang (viz) Curry has a wonderfully authentic taste, but the added strips of green pepper and avocado were a mistake and the accompanying roti were undercooked. There was a good pad Thai and the oriental prawn salad with quinoa and rice was delicious. Can’t recall the name of the spatchcocked chicken dish, it it was also very good. Prices are very reasonable.

Bacon, Bacon, Millionaire Bacon!

By Shelly M |

We visited for Brunch - You MUST have the bacon. It's absolutely delicious! We tried the benedicts and the stuffed french toast and it was all very good. We were lucky and didn't have to wait in line. There are a few tables outside with an awning and heaters.

Great Food

By RLD808 |

This was a great find. Some different takes on American classics. Definitely a to go to place for breakfast. Although prices are a bit hirer then the normal breakfast prices, you get a lot for your money. The unique preparations are worth it. Really enjoyed the Belly Rancheros and Crab Benedict. Lots of contrasting and complementing flavors going on. This is the first place that I really enjoyed breakfast potatoes. They do a mixture of sweet, yams, and other gourmet potatoes and cooked truly crispy on the outside with balance of softness on the inside. Lots of greens accompanied the dishes, so you really felt like you were getting a healthy meal. It just added to the plates fullness. Service was fast and friendly. The place had lots of seating, but filled fast. My only complaint was the background music caused the dinners to talk louder which made for a noisy dinning experience. Would defiantly visit again if in town and try more of their offerings.

Great Thai dinner

By Donna G |

Great atmosphere. Very good food. There is a lot of variety. Difficult to understand our server but he was very nice. Not a place for kids. Fast service too

Brunch

By Sanja |

Lovely food, nicely prepared and a good selection. Their music choice is horrible though and too loud.

Deliciously yummy

By Cpwee |

Had brunch and worth the 20min wait. Food is fresh, delicious and hearty. Friendly service, though the place was a tad louder than the ideal setting for a good chatting session. Worth a visit!

Best Thai Food in San Fran

By Carla S |

We had a 9pm seating on Wednesday. When we arrived, the place was buzzing with excitement and a queue for takeaways was going out the door. We started off with the chicken wings, which were sensational. Then ordered the Beef noodle broth (the star of the meal) and the Chef's secret meal (chicken panang curry). Both meals were layered with flavour that tantalised the taste buds. The broth tasted like something that has been brewing for days, with so many complex flavours making each mouthful a taste experience. The service was quick, but not rushed. The vibe was electric, but bordered on a little noisy, so if you're looking for a quiet dinner, maybe not the one for you. But everyone seemed to be having a very good time, and we were also caught up in the excitement. A real highlight!

Will need improvement

By mountainchef |

Server was not on tonight. Empty dishes and glasses piled up, even at our leisurely pace of dining. Calamari was rubbery and scallops were obliterated. I really expected better in San Fran. I hope it was just a bad night. From all the glowing reviews, I guess it was.

Really good but kinda pricey

By SpiritParticle'... B |

While the presentation of the food was great and it was really tasty, we paid double what we normally pay for breakfast. The service was fast, but not extremely attentive. Its a cute touch delivering the bill in a book.

Wow!

By DJL297 |

I’d read about this place so when we travelled to San Francisco from the UK I was determined to eat there. We booked in advance online which is what was recommended on the article due to its popularity. The staff are welcoming and attentive and the food is excellent. I had the fried chicken and my partner had something with crab (I can’t remember what). The food was delicious and portions were huge! The waiter refilled our water and iced tea a couple of times during our meal which was nice as most places wouldn’t do this.

Unsure

By Mary S |

It was very well decorated and easy to find! I tried the deep fried pumpkin. It was very good and unique. If you like Thai food this is the place!

Breakfast stop on way to Castro district

By IanOrla |

Best breakfast we had all holiday. Not just that the atnsophere was very nice and casual. We wer lucky being off season and didnt need to queue but I suspect tht would be different at other times. Definitely book for evening meals. Enjoy..

Expected more

By Trinh V |

I was hoping to love this place because the menu looked extensive and delicious. Maybe I went on a bad day because it being the sister restaurant of Sweet Maple you would think it was be just as good but in my opinion, it was mediocre. We went when they first opened so we didn't have to wait but 30 minutes into our brunch it started to get pretty packed. Service was ok. Midway our waitress decided to take her break and started eating her meal and then forgot about us because after she got our order she was never to be found again then we saw her and she was eating at the bar watching the soccer game. 3/5 Food: -Crab Benedict (2/5): Particularly I am a huge crab Benedict connoisseur but this one didn't taste right. It tasted as if the crab was old and went bad. I didn't even finish my meal let alone touch it. The bread underneath was hard, so I only ate my sides. -Ribeye Omurice (4.5/5): My friend ordered this and I was jealous because this tasted amazing! I would highly recommend this dish. The rice was to die for. Delish. I wish I would've picked this dish instead. Maybe when I go back I'll give this place another shot. -Mascarpone Stuffed Deep French Toast (3/5): Very Rich. The concept was girthy and appealing to the eye but in my opinion it wasn't your typical French Toast and it didn't taste like it either. Service was ok. Server forgot about us. The raspberry lemonade was to die for! Next time I'll broaden my horizon and order the Ribeye Omurice.

Tasty Breakfast at Kitchen Story

By Christo S |

We had a delicious breakfast each at Kitchen Story in San Francisco. The menu had a wide range of typical breakfast fare but also featured something called millionaire's bacon. This is really just flavored bacon and I think there were three flavors to choose from. The dishes we chose were both good but I wasn't wild about the way the plate was crowded with food. The quality and service, however, were excellent. I would definitely go back.

Nice food and Beveridge

By Eilat G |

We went for lunch 5 friends. The food and beverage were excellent the only thing that we didn't like was the 20% tip charge in the check.

Great food, poor service.

By Vertiginous |

We ordered two beers after our food arrived and waited, and waited, and waited, slowing down our eating so that we could drink with the food. The woman we’d ordered from was nowhere to be seen so we ordered again from a male waiter. And waited and waited.... finally we had to ask for the same two drinks a third time from a guy who immediately went to the bar and got them. No apology, just real poor service. The place deserves better.

Friends

By Hector T |

Great food amazing friends the taste everything they make is good the servers great attention to detail I love it y try few dishes the bacon wowww

Awesome Brunch

By bnm37 |

Four of us had Saturday brunch there and we were completely obsessed! The entrees from the tasty bacon, fun drinks and amazing benedicts, were the best we have had in a long time! The staff was great and sat us fairly quickly. I would definitely get here early!

Healthy and yummy brunch

By Mrs.Trumpfire |

Portions were big and the dishes were great. The omurice (ribs) and the millennium bacon eggs Benedict were very satisfying options

Very Interesting Menu

By Thomas V |

Very interesting mash-up of Korean with American style. It was a pleasant lunch with friends and we each had a different dish, all good. Very nice to find this treasure and we will be back.

YUM

By Jahniece |

My husband choose this restaurant for breakfast and we decided to share. Great choice as both meals were FANTASTIC!!! We had the stuffed French toast, Millionaires Bacon and the strawberry shrimp and avocado salad. I also had the Bloody Mary with Millionaires Bacon, a bit spicy for me but so flavorful. Go try it. The line is out the door on weekend so go early. WELL DONE ! And that’s all I need to say about that.

Breakfast

By LynneGarner |

We’re staying in Castro and found this place just before we boarded the F train and headed into the city, so glad we did. The food was excellent for veggies and carnivores alike. I suspect we’ll be back there tomorrow for their rainbow potatoes with another delicious meal. Huge tick in the box for the eggs both poached and fried.

Great place! Better food!

By Muthrteresa |

Wanted mimosas and got the best breakfast! Fresh, quick, beautiful presentation! Totally would go again if I didn't live so far away!

Brunch

By Jhall53 |

The first place we decided to eat in San Fran. So delicious. Chicken burger was nice and moist. Crab Benedict was fresh. Fried French toast stuffed with mascarpone was absolute heaven!

Worth the wait!

By ocmturnbull |

We had to wait over an hour after arriving at 1pm on a Sunday. This place is everything you could ask for from a funky brunch joint in San Fran. And wonderful grub! I had always wondered what would happen if you cut bacon a bit thicker... well the answer is: it is delicious when cooked the way they do here!!!!! I would deffo come here again if I could work out when it is not quite as busy

Great food, bottomless mimosas

By Tyson C |

My boyfriend loves bottomless mimosas, so we came here. Did not disappoint. Great food, I had a sandwich melt, not sure what he had. But we did have plenty of mimosas, I would def come back. Prices are typical for SF.

Great Cuisine and friendly service

I had one of the best Green Curry‘s ever head, and even better than in some places in Asia. My companion enjoyed Bucolic Baby Back Ribs, being very tender and tasty. The restaurant is located in lively Castro area in San Francisco.

Love this place

By Lucy S |

Came here with a group of six and we all loved our meals. I had the Pacific pad Thai and it was packed with sea food. Very big portion full of squid, scallops and grab. So tasty. The starters and cocktails were great too. Can't recommend this place enough !!!

Millionaire's Bacon always a good choice.

By Marla B |

Haven't been here in years and grateful they are still serving up great food. Took friends here to celebrate their Birthdays. We were seated right away, outside, under the covered parklet. Though the table was "quite wobbly", we seemed to manage. Natch we ordered the Millionaires Bacon Combo plate. OMG, can we say "finger licking good"! Though we asked this be delivered w/our meal, it came a good 15 min. early :-( Remember, I mentioned the table was really wobbly. Well the gal who brought the bacon platter kind of threw it on the table, knocking 2 of the 3 coffee cups and spilling coffee everywhere. As she skittered away we were just able to ask for a rag or something to clean it up. She breezed over and then threw more napkins on the table. We all eye rolled at that point ~ Rude! Our server Magnum was very nice and attentive just enough. We ordered the following: Ricotta Hotcakes - super light, super fluffy, super yummy! Albeit it a wee bit skimpy and small. Athenian Omelet - wonderfully cooked, light, fluffy and very flavorful Frisco Benedict - Hm, it was good, but not very hot. Actually none of our food was very hot. Always a huge disappointment. My poached eggs were over hard, which I did not expect. The toast (huge thick slab, which I don't think was Ciabatta as advertised) was impossible to cut through and the wobbly table didn't help. I ended up pulling everything off this slab and eating it separately. Again, bummer. But the Chicken Mango Sausage was outstanding and the avocados perfectly ripe and plentiful. We all thought the Rainbow potatoes were really pretty but they were all soggy, flavorless and not crisp. More like leftover potatoes from the previous day, I don't know. Most of the potatoes we left on our plate. Of course none of this was cheap, heck, nothings cheap anymore. But for gawds sake, if you are going to charge this much and $4.00 for a mediocre cup of coffee, step up your game and get better coffee. More like brown water, really and again, not hot. Don't think I will be back for breakfast but choose lunch instead.

Great as always

By Warren G |

I've been coming to this restaurant for quite some time. I love the Millionaire's bacon and I get bottom-less mimosas when I come. It's a great date spot but it does get busy around lunch time.

pet peeve

By Footprints814597 |

ry good, except for one ofm The atmosphere was nice and food was good, except for one of my pet peeves. Please stop trying to convince me that shrimp are prawns and expext me to pay for prawns. In this case, they wern't even jumbo shrimp, much less prawns. I've encountered this before. It leaves me feeling cheated and dsiappointed whne I look forward to prawns.

Great meal

By PHXJeremy |

Menu here is awesome and the food quality is good. Service for a large party is not their forte, and I felt kind of bad for the team there when I saw the space they had to work with. I'd suggest keeping it to under 6 and you'll have an EXCEPTIONAL experience. Over that, just come with patience. The food is great, and the people are nice. NB: They won't split onto more than 3 cards, which may catch folks from other cities off guard.

Just Ok

By Royax |

Came to this place for a brunch with a friend. The place is Ok. The food is Ok. And the service is also OK. But in the weekend, it can be crowded and might wait in line unless you're willing to sit in the bar side.

Million Dollary Bacon!!!

By JanellaD |

Great place for brunch!! The food was awesome!! Not a very large place with limited seating, but the food was great!!

Best for brunch in The Castro SAN FRANCISCO

By Travel Hustle 🌎🕶 |

Best for brunch or lunch in Castro district; great food and drinks, lively atmosphere, BOOK IN ADVANCE!

So Homey and cute!

By Lindsey C |

We loved this place! They have Millionaire Bacon, which was yummy! My husband had a burger, and I had a scramble with two-color potatoes. Everything was fresh and delicious. I didn’t see any children here, but they do have a small kids menu. The decor is rustic modern and beautiful. Staff was nice also!

Food great....

By Nick M |

Visited on a Saturday night. Very busy ( was expected ). Serving staff rude. Level on noise was LOUD from other diners. Sat on table for 4 and couldn't have a conversation without competing in noise level. Food was AMAZING. I had a Tofu dish and have to say it could compete with street food in Thailand. My fellow guests also loved their meals. Defo go, just not on a weekend.....

Delicious Meal

By Daniel D |

Came here with a large party on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. The presentation of the dishes here are impeccable, if you're an avid food-Instagrammer - this is the place for you! I had the seafood Panang curry and it was literally one of the BEST curries I've ever had. Full of flavor, I was in food heaven! Reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

So good you'll eat off your friends plate

By wordsanctity |

This would be my second visit and it's still amazing. I don't think I need to go too much into detail but I left satisfied. So good you will eat off of your friends plate without permission

Food fresh n simple

By adil a |

Sat outdoors .. food was fresh n nicely presented n tasty .. Service was delayed , inconsistent as the servers kept on changing.. Felt like we were left to eat n go not taken care of .. that’s the cost one pays for a v v busy popular place

Good Take Out

By Thomas V |

Well we couldn't eat here because of the pandemic, so we got take out. The food was good, and they have some great choices on their menu. But they did not give us what we ordered so I had to go back a second time. Still friendly. Good quality.

Good breakfast

By Summer620 |

This was first time we tried this place. We all loved the food we ordered. The latte tasted good and the service is great.

Loved the concept of this restaurant

By AyenNYC |

Ate here at the recommendation of my good friend who's obviously a regular at this restaurant. Must admit, loved the feel of this place -the interior design and the location. Really ideal for brunching and chilling with friends. Food-wise, not the absolute best their is out there but what I ordered was great and delicious, not to mention the heaping servings!

Delicious Brunch

By BusinessTraveller710 |

A cute local restaurant that I visited on my trip to visit my besties who now live in Mission SF. A treat of a place with a bustling atmosphere and super polite servers. We sat by the long expanse of windows with the sun filtering through and ordered our brunch. I had omelette with bacon and cheese topped with avocado and with a side of their signature rainbow potatoes. A truly delicious meal. I would give 5 stars but .... no tomato juice?!! A little disappointed that this juice staple was not on offer but I have to say I’d go back again and again to eat here!

noisy but delicious

By evie r |

we had a delicious dinner, the salmon was fantastic which I had and the other 3 people were also very happy. It is a Thai kitchen. We were too full, but the desserts looked great as well. My daughter has been there already 4 times and this was my second. We are never disappointed!!

Definitely worth your time and money!

By IlanB |

One of the best brunches you can get in San Francisco. But to make it more difficult - Their lunch/dinner menu is terrific as well. Whatever I've tried in this restaurant, it's always delicious. I guess there is a valid reason why there is usually a line outside. I do recommend one thing in particular - Millionaire's Bacon. It's a thick slice of bacon in maple and different spices that just melts in your mouth. It's not cheap but totally worth it. The line might take about 30-40 min, so reservations are advised (reservations not available for brunches, unfortunately ).

So good

By Ian O |

We enjoyed exceptional Thai food and great service when we dined at Kitchen Story in early September. It’s not far from the heart of the Castro and it was so good! I highly recommend the green chicken curry and do not miss the steamed vegetables as these were exceptional. In spite of having thousands of SFO restaurants at our disposal we’re thinking of a return visit to Kitchen Story before we end our trip - that’s how much we enjoyed it!

Great! Very Impressive Brunch♡

By upupandaway3 |

Bubble machine outside☆☆....Beautiful Food...Wonderful atmosphere & Exquisite Food+Amazing Presentation! We will return..again & again!! Make a reservation if possible! The Bill is delivered on a book with a paper clip....Gotta love it☆☆☆☆

Once wasn't enough!

By Jeff L |

We visited San Francisco last weekend for the first time. The nice lady at our hotel recommended we walk down to Kitchen Story. We did....twice! This is a relatively new restaurant. But you would think it was a San Francisco landmark! The service and general organization was superior, and the food was beyond our wildest expectations. This is a real winner! I highly recommend reservations for dinner, and if you arrive after 9:30 for Sunday brunch, expect a wait.

Ribeye Omurice

By PoppeThorsen |

Great breakfast, and great service. I had the ribeye omurice and my wife had the egg, bacon, potatoes with cheddar melt. Both were delicious! Ang huge portions! Not cheap, but worth it.

The place to be for brunch

My friends introduced me to KS on my last visit in SF . What a great place ! Very popular for Sunday brunch we had to wait a while to be seated . Friendly staff and excellent fusion food , Thai/American . Highly recommend!

Very delicious food and fast service. They have very good coconut cappuccino and very good ice late.

Tasty & Beautiful Food

By Jody W |

We ordered only from the starters menu, and it was delicious, filling, and beautifully presented. We were there on a Sunday night, and it was busy, but the service was smooth and attentive. Their wine list is good, my daughter loved her panna cotta for dessert, and I'd go back again. Wonderful meal!

Not as good as it looks

By Anne-Sophie L |

Didn’t really live up to the hype. Some of the plates mix paprika with bacon with strawberries. I’m all for mixing and matching to make a plate look attractive but not when it’s detrimental to the taste. I ate in some much better and slightly cheaper places like Frjtz on Valencia.

A true disappointment(with the exception of the bacon)

By ankiandlarry |

My family and I went to this establishment on New Year’s Eve. I was hankering for some some creative and interesting food on my one night stay in San Francisco(I primarily reside in Oregon) so we decided on this place based on the fun menu and great reviews. We arrived at 5 and there was group of people waiting outside for them to open. We were seated promptly and looked over the menu. Everything listed looked fantastic and seemed to highlight the local produce. They monikered themselves as California cuisine, which surprised me( its not Alice waters style California) but with the cultural blending in San Francisco anything works I guess. We ordered the party bowl drink(it had a warning to be cautious about intoxication) it was New Years after all! The drink arrived and was just super sweet iced sparkling wine. Fair enough, I can read ingredient and should have known, but for $38 booze it up some! To start We got bacon and the tuna cups. Bacon was fantastic!!! I cure my own bacon from whole bellies of bacon(often I raise my own heritage breed pigs and butcher them myself) so I have a lot of respect for the process. A+ prep and presentation. The tuna cups were fine but not noteworthy. Our three entrees were all sub par leaning towards bad. I had the dancing queen( love the name and the Swedish band responsible) the steak was good bloodline beef, very tender and buttery and cooked to my asking. The green beans were crunchy and fresh and had good flavor but was over salted and very sweet. The sauce smothering my rice had some Szechuan peppercorn(which I love, but was cloyingly sweet. The other dishes were a seafood pasta. Good fresh seafood and seasoned but once again unpleasantly sweet. The last dish was a chicken dish that was beautifully presented but did not work in my opinion. I ordered a side of rice (because I was still hungry and didn’t want to finish the others dishes) specifying that the sauce used on my dish was too sweet. They charge me for it. Our waiter was unfriendly and our water was never filled. There were 2 friendly runners that served all our dishes( our waiter was on break eating at the bar our whole dinner) Also they had techno music playing loud which was kind of fun on New Years, but it was the worst music I have heard in years. All in all a very sad experience and a waste of my one night in SF.

Yummy French Toast

By Michael |

This place is a great breakfast spot, it's very similar to sweat maples and similar prices. Very nice service and priced ok.

Sunday Brunch

By OnAssignmentFoodie |

Foggy, cold and drizzling weather doesn't phase us. We found free street parking early Sunday morning and we were seated right away upon walking few feet away from our parking spot. There's usually a line out the door, but the line wasn't too bad, possibly 5 groups before us. If you decide to sit outside the covered and heated patio area, you'll be seated immediately since the locals prefer to eat indoor. The service was exceptional! They fill your coffee cup often and are very in tune to your needs. The patio tables and chairs are close together with other groups that you are able to hear conversations. We didn't mind sitting with people that close to us, especially when they have an adorable pup under their table. It's totally dog friendly! Love this place and its sister restaurant, Sweet Maple! Be sure to get add the millionaire bacon with the deep fried French toast! Your bill will be given to you in a book! How fitting right?!

Good food but cramped space and we felt hurried

By jemarc77 |

We had good food but 1 out of 5 didn’t like theirs. The place was a little cramped since I feel like they maximized the space. I requested for the best seats with my reservation on yelp and they seated us hy the bathroom. Not sure if that was their best seats. It was right next to the bookshelves lol.

If you like eggs Benedict, you need to try this!

By 812841 |

Can't go wrong sitting outside enjoying the day and having the eggs Benedict made with their ultra famous bacon. Definitely not to be missed. Parking can sometimes be a challenge, because it is however San Fran, worth taking a walk to.

Mother’s Day Celebration

By Mauro1990 |

We wanted a great brunch to celebrate Mother’s Day and this restaurant exceeded that. We ordered on-line. All 4 of us ordered eggs: 3 omelettes and 1 - eggs over easy with bacon. All were cooked to perfection. When we arrived to pick it up, the order was not ready for the time that we specified, but it’s understandable because it was insanely busy!!! Thanks to your team for making this day very special.

Try the bacon

By Brandi H |

We went in here because of the line outside. It was worth the wait. We ordered the millionaire bacon, which was amazing. The french toast is also amazing.

Quick dinner

By Tkerle |

Best coconut lemongrass soup EVER. We ate like it was tapas so it was fun to sample a variety of things.

Excellent food

By Mark672 |

We came here for dinner based on another guest at our b&b’s advice. It was moderately crowed but we got right in. The service was a bit slow, but very friendly. The food was very delicious and reasonably priced.

Unique

By adelZman |

This was an unplanned stop for breakfast. The ambience was great and relaxing. Staff very friendly. The menu choices were very different and tasty. Presentation very elegantly beautiful. We had omelettes and the "pot" (rice, eggs, vegetables...etc.) and all were very good especially the latter which was a new thing for me.

Wow. Worth the wait

By cunoregon |

They had a very long line but it didn’t seem we waited forever. We sat outside with a dog. Ordered the millionaire bacon Bloody Mary, lavender blueberry spritzer, millionaire bacon Benedict, rib eye omelette, and deep fried marscipone French toast (not pictured). Everything was delicious and well worth the wait. There is a reason they have two lines for waiting to get seated. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out. Prices were reasonable

Sweet, Savory, and Simply Unforgettable!

By Lina E |

If you’re craving a delicious brunch, this place is a must-try. While the outdoor seating was a bit chilly, the heaters made it cozy enough to enjoy. We found the indoor seating too stuffy for our liking, but that’s easily overlooked when the food steals the show. We started with the millionaire bacon flight, fresco Benedict which were packed with rich, savory flavors, and moved on to the mascarpone-stuffed, deep-fried French toast—crispy on the outside, creamy and indulgent on the inside. The ricotta hotcake was a standout, perfectly fluffy and topped with generous servings of fresh blueberries and strawberries that added a refreshing sweetness. Portions were impressively large, so come hungry! While they offer bottomless mimosas, just a heads-up: it comes with plenty of warnings about overindulgence, so pace yourself if you decide to give them a try! we opted for coffee and fresh juice, both of which hit the spot It’s a place I’d happily return to, not just for the food but for the overall experience.

Did someone say bacon, billionaire bacon?

By Redshirts889 |

This wonderful Asian fusion restaurant serves killer breakfasts. Everything was so good, they seems to pay attention to all their foods, such as their rainbow potatoes: they must have been boiled with salt until soft, than fried twice to get the outside so crispy without burns and the inside tender, there’s no salt on the outside of the potato, the flavor & salt seems to comes from the potato itself! If they spend that much effort on the potatoes I can only imagine what they do with the rest of their dishes. Btw, you must try the billionaire bacon. yum!

Delicious Asian Fusion

By Jeremy Jacobs |

Went here for dinner with friends on halloween. There is a nice mixture of Asian inspired American food. We started with a selection of starters which included some of the best calamari I have ever had. I opted for a burger which was very tasted, served in a brioche bun, I took half of it home as I was stuffed. The potato wedges that were served with it were unbelievable, crispy on the outside and soft inside. The atmosphere was chilled but also lively and the service was great. I would recommend it as a location for a fun night out with friends.

Great breakfast, good portions

By SATraveller25 |

Kitchen story is a very popular spot for breakfast. Only outdoor seating was available when we arrived, which worked well for us. The menu is quite extensive and offers a lot of healthy options. Egg whites are also available. We tried mamas Benedict and some of the omelettes. All were very good, including the breakfast potatoes. Worth the wait. Go early to get a good spot.

Great dinner

By JLS |

Great dinner! We had the ahi scoops, ribs, & Pacific Pad Thai. Everything was delicious. The mixed drinks were also awesome. Freshly muddled berries and mint leaves. Service was also on point!

Great find

By Andyuk100 |

Great place to eat and meet friends. One of the best restaurants in the Castro and reasonably priced.

Wonderful Dinner Experience

By Bill B |

My partner and I recently visited San Francisco for four days. While there we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Kitchen Story. We got this suggestion through Yelp…which was right on. The atmosphere was nice and the service quite good, as was the food. We started with Ahi Scoops which were terrific. We loved them. We then both chose the Castro Sea Dish which included a good variety of fish. They also have some outside tables. Highly recommend you make reservations.

Great Fun!

By becandl |

We went as a group of 7 friends and we walked in and were seated within a few minutes. The restaurant is small and quite noisy as it is a very busy location. We ordered dishes to share and everything was well prepared, served hot and uses great ingredients. Our service was prompt and attentive. This is obviously a neighborhood favorite with lots of small groups having a fun dinner out. The millionaire bacon was incredible. We highly recommend Kitchen Story!

Thai food with attention to quality of ingredients

By Edward D |

I would not call this place pricey at all: I got the green curry with tofu for $17. Most of the unique "in-house" recipes run $20-30. But what sets this place apart is the attention to the quality of ingredients. The green beans, for example, tasted amazing. Portions were large; the green curry was loaded with vegetables. All meats and seafood are carefully sourced for sustainability, according to the menu. Atmosphere is festive!

great breakfast spot

By linus_atpug |

We visited kitchen story twice in as many days for breakfast because it was so good. Generous portions and lovely tasting food set in a comforting environment. What more is there to say except wow. BTW for those hordes of high tech workers waiting for their bus outside Kitchen Story, you should step inside the restaurant too and start your day with a wow.

One of the best breakfast/brunches in San Fran

By Cor T |

I'm craving this stuffed French toast right now & the Eggs Benedict with millionaires bacon was absolutely fabulous. Everything was delicious & go for the variety of mimosas or better yet, go bottomless! I have been to a lot of brunch spots & this is in my top 3. Very busy & lines outside bit worth the wait. Loved it!

I don’t get it

By SanFranciscoMarie |

We went here based on previous 4 plus star reviews. The host and server greeted us promptly but he was cold and robotic. Did not explain the menu, or engage at all. We tried the “famous” bacon wrapped asparagus-too much sweet sauce for my taste. Also ordered the wagu beef entree, again too much sauce, plus a glass of cava and red wine. $75/without tax. We ended up leaving hungry and dissatisfied, and went to a wine bar around the corner. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things but I do not plan on returning.

A must try if you ever in SFO!!!

By Jorge F |

My wife and I went for brunch we were seated rather quickly great presentation and great flavours. I had the Ranchero Pork Belly it was delicious. We will come back again...

Great food

By karen19722014 |

We had a bit of trouble with the menu, (lights just seemed to reflect off making it hard to read) but once we worked out what we wanted, (two slightly fussy eaters) the food was amazing, would definitely go back just without the fussy eaters

By Discover480069 |

Went to this restaurant after reading good reviews. Very disappointed Sat next to toilet Cold breeze dive to a door being open Food bland, I have had Thai food in London and was expecting it to be spicy, tasty Waitress was very abrupt Went to pay Needed to split bill as with friends We had problems with this as only allowed to use 2 cards I have no idea how this restaurant had such good reviews Will not be recommending it

Sunday brunch

By Roberto A |

I spontaneously stopped by for Sunday brunch and there was a line waiting to get in. While I thought I might have to wait a long time, the hostess and rest of the staff, did a good job working the line and getting people in efficiently. The service only got better once I was seated. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I will eat here again the next time I'm in San Francisco.

Birthday Lunch

By Damain S |

Absolutely love this place! Their service is great and their food is beyond amazing. I would suggest making a booking or you will be standing in a queue. My husband and I went here for brunch on his 30th birthday and he loved it! Their portion sizes are huge so it is well worth the price. We had the bottomless mimosas to drink and the waiter always popped by to refill us and the jug. I had the French toast with eggs and the millionaires bacon (you have to try this, it's their special type of bacon that is thick and sweet - divine). My husband had the pork tacos as per the waiters recommendation and wow, this meal was AMAZING! It had great flavors, probably the best taco we've had

So good! Highly recommend!

By Bendgirl |

My cousin recommended we try Kitchen Story while we were in town. We had one of the Benedicts, a breakfast sandwich, a couple kids meals and of course, the Millionaires Bacon. The bacon is amazing...sweet and spicy thick cut and delicious! The cocktails were also very good! Service was great as well. They really go above and beyond. Even the water had mint, berries, and grapefruit in it.

Love love love this place!

By 8maggie |

My favorite place in SF. Have been for both brunch and dinner, never disappointed. Food is extraordinarily creative and delicious. Super flavorful. Signature millionaire bacon is obviously great, but so are burgers etc. I've absolutely loved everything I've eaten here. Wine list is also top notch. They don't take reservations but the wait is totally worth it. Don't walk, RUN to this place!

My favorite place when visiting San Francisco!

By Yooper3 |

The friendliest staff ever and excellent food in a casual atmosphere. My favorite are the noodle bowls of Soup. My sons love the beef, and I usually have the tofu or chicken. They also have an amazing bacon and asparagus appetizer.

Saturday Brunch at Kitchen Story

By Tosin O |

One of the best brunch spots in the city. Very popular but no reservations so make sure you and your party get there during a reasonable time if you want a snag a table. Fantastic food and presentation. The French Toast is BOMB. I’ve tried it on 3 separate occasions and still haven’t been able to finish it, it’s so filling and each bite is a dream. Personally, I think the Millionaire’s bacon is overpriced. However, you won’t regret ordering some, especially if you’re with a group. Order the flight, cut up pieces for everyone to enjoy and you’re good to go. The drinks! Be careful, there’s a difference between a strawberry mimosa and a BJ strawberry mimosa, my friend had to find out the hard way. Still, drinks, especially from the speciality drinks menu, are very good and tasty. They have both Indoor and outdoor seating, both are enjoyable although I prefer outdoor on a nice day.

Lots of Food, Lots of Noise

By Karen K |

The portions were extra-large. Two of us had the California Burger—delicious but impossible to eat without removing the bun. I had a mushroom omelet with hollandaise sauce; it came with multi-colored little potatoes and plenty of arugula. Yummy. The noise level, however, was seriously obnoxious. Aside from the conversations from all the other tables, the restaurant saw fit to blare music that made it sound as if we were in the midst of a drum circle. We finally had to depart just to be able to hold a conversation. Never again.

Amazing brunch

By netia1128 |

This brunch was amazing. We had an order of the stuffed French Toast and the Millionaires Benedict. Both were delicious, with decent portions. It even looked amazing. I wish I could go back all the time.

Wonderful Atmosphere and Food

By Bill B |

My partner and I enjoyed a long holiday weekend in San Francisco. We decided on returning to Kitchen Story for dinner as we had been here 2 years ago. We had a nice table, good service and delicious food. We loved the Castro Tower of Tuna and the Pacific Pad Thai. We also ordered the Ahi scoops as we truly enjoyed them last year. They were cooked differently this year and while good, not the same as the ones we had prior. Restaurant can be a bit loud as tables are quite close to each other. Definitely make a reservation if going over the weekend.

Delicious!

By Kattymae |

It was a nice sunny day and this cafe has a good amount of seats outside to enjoy the sun. The wait wasn't long and if you're whole party is there, they can seat you right away (makes sense). The food was delicious! good portion size too and they have bottomless mimosas. I had the Millennium Bacon benedict which was really good and filling. Staff were friendly, food didn't take long and overall a good experience. Would definitely come again!

Awesome food. Iffy service

By diverOhio |

All the reviews about food are right on. The service is odd. There is a line out the door people waiting in the rain to get in . Open tables and 6 staff are sitting at the counter eating in front of all the waiting guests. What the heck?! . We could not even get our check to pay for a while. Bizarre. Come for the food.

1st Time Visit

By sfbillsfan |

Have gone by here many times & finally saw no line & went in. Glad we did. Friendly staff, nice size portions, & fairly priced. They offer a wide range of dining options, so no one should say there isn't something to order. Their bacon rocks.

Warm, friendly, delicious

By travelswithfamily525 |

We dined here the night we arrived in San Francisco, and it was the perfect welcome. Even on a cool Wednesday evening most tables were occupied by small groups of friends, but we were seated immediately. The menu offered fantastic fresh options to suit each member of the family. We had the red pumpkin curry, the green chicken curry, and the burgers with the signature millionaire bacon. There are also tempting salads, noodles, etc which sounded great. All our selections were delicious! Our server was so gracious, energetic and cute she looked like she'd been eating clean her whole life. Very positive experience all around. Oh, bonus-- there was a plug right below my bench to charge my phone up!

Absolutely Delicious

By Dalav8r |

Even with a party of 10 everything was scrumptious! Food, drinks, & service...not a single thing short of excellent. Kitchen Story should be on your must stop list when in SFO.

Mixed experiences

By techie69 |

I got dinner to go and it was very nice and so I returned to have brunch and it was fairly mediocre and not as described. No scone and warm honey butter but an over dried out mini croissant. The lavender soy was delicious though

We were at Kitchen story for brunch. Good food, noisy and crowded. Great brunch selection. Excellent coffee! Delicious berry mimosas.

Nice place

By robertssiv |

This is a very nice place.. good atmosphere, food is excellent, mimosas are nice and flowing.  However the server Tonk has a bad attitude and decided he didn't want to serve us.  It was very rude but we didn't let it mess us our experience. I recommend the place but would try not to sit in tools area

Last Supper in SF

By Alive27 |

Our friends who live in SF recommended the Kitchen Story for our last night here. The famous appetisers were fantastic - my husband and kids loved the Millionaire’s bacon and the ahi scoops were the best I’ve ever had. The mains / entrees were very good - but nothing that different from a high quality Thai elsewhere - perhaps we should’ve been more adventurous in our ordering. Our server wasn’t particularly warm, friendly or attentive, but changed tack half way through - perhaps to secure a good tip. I was amazed that there was only one white Californian wine on the list - and that was sold out. Feels kinda odd ordering European wine in the wine capital of the US. We were brought the wrong wine but I didn’t quibble, and it was still excellent! Cocktails and the raspberry lemonade were delicious.

Bad Service

By Philipp |

Want there to have a salad. Turned out to be full of very hard kale stalks. When I complained the waiter was super unfriendly and said it is supposed to be that way. Cannot recommend that place!

Best Breakfast in the city

By Potal |

I love everything here. They have an amazing selection of breakfast dishes likes benedict, fancy scramble, burgers and sandwiches. Also, They have interesting French toast which is call " Mascapone deep fried stuff French toast. It is a good portion of toast and fruit. Everything is fresh which you can feel. Their services is friendly and promptly. I would recommend this place if you visit San Francisco. PS. They have fusion Asian-cali style for Dinner.

Great place for lunch

By Petter L |

Our first food experience in SF on our Cali road trip and the food was fantastic. Nice restaurant with friendly staff and a nice selection of food. I had The Spicy Burger and it was really good.

Friendly fusion restaurant, worth booking

By Jon H |

Friendly restaurant, a little out of the centre of the Castro. Menu mixes Thai, American, and more. Sometimes gets full, so worth booking or waiting.

Great food, rushed service

By Becs_M83 |

We were here on our late night in SF. Despite a booking we were shoved in the corner and had to lean every time the waiter walked past. We asked to move and they were very accommodating. We ordered food and drink and from that time it was a race to get through it! Our wine glasses were constantly filled when our glasses were still over half full. We had corn fritters which were nice but nothing special. The mains were delicious - we had the short rib noodle soup and the seafood curry both were amazing. After dinner we ordered dessert and tea... again the dessert was delicious and quite large so thankfully we shared! The bill for the entire meal was brought to us when we were had not yet finished the dessert and we had not actually asked for the check. It was quite evident that they were trying to get rid of us fast as possible to try and get through as many customers as fast as they can. Lost points for service on this occasion.

AMAZING

We visited this cafe because of a video review I had seen on YouTube. We were definitely not disappointed. We were in the US for ten days and I think this was my favourite meal! Four of us went for brunch and we got there early and good job too and the queues got LONG! I had poached eggs with millionaires bacon and rainbow potatoes - outrageously good. Bacon was next level! My wife had a veggie omelette and that was amazing also! The setting is lovely and if we had more time in town we would have made and effort to go back! 10/10, if in town it’s a must!!
