Delish lunch on a drizzly day

By Debbie D |

A great little place. Positive vibe w lots of choices on the menu. Udon noodles cooked perfectly al dente and broth has the perfect balance of saltiness. Tempura couldn't been a little crunchier when it arrived but still delish!

OK

Good value sushi place. The place is not so great, but the food is acceptable.

Order at lunch. Enjoy at dinner.

We arrived at the tail end of lunch hour on a weekday to a half-empty restaurant. After waiting more than five minutes at the cashier's station (nobody bothered to look in that direction), we flagged down a staff member to seat us. The delays continued - getting water, getting menus, and so on. When our main course arrived, I asked whether or not our lunch included soup (loaded question: it was listed on the menu). The server giggled to say that she had noticed the soups sitting on the counter for quite some time and offered to bring them. I pointed (twice) out that this would mean that either our soup or our main course would be cold, which seemed to go over her head. She did bring the soup, and then turned to another patron who said that she had been waiting 45 minutes to be served. Eventually, we got the server's attention to bring us soup spoons; more delay ensued. Ditto when we attempted to get our bill. At this point, we walked to the podium and finally were able to pay the bill. Somebody on staff told me that there were computer problems, which seems to be utterly unrelated to the abysmal level of service. If I could have left a negative amount for a tip, I would have done so. The salmon was acceptable, rice is rice, and the iceberg lettuce accompaniment is worthless. All in all, my second-worst (well, maybe worst) Portland meal experience.

Pedestrian food at an elevated price

By Kate R |

We were looking for a place to take our daughter before a concert and thought we would look for her favorite cuisine --- Japanese. The ambiance is nil. The waitress was pleasant. The food was 'meh'. The chicken and beef teriyaki didn't taste of the marinade and the marinade lacked substance. The food wasn't quite hot. The dinner prices were high -- two or three times what we pay for better Japanese food in our neighborhood in Milwaukie. This might be OK for a quick lunch when the prices are more reasonable. Otherwise, skip it.

Good food, small portions

By Valerie L |

When we stopped int he place was packed. As other reviewers said, this is a small place, maybe 10 tables max, so we took our food to go. All the food was good. We were just surprised at the small size of the rolls. The service was excellent even for being so busy.

Surprisingly GOOD!

By Cattledogs |

Izakaya seems to be very popular in the Northwest, while ramen restaurants are the popular items in New York. I saw this restaurant last summer, and did not try it then. This summer, being close to the hotel and being so tired, we tried this one. And glad we did!! They have many Japanese casual dishes like tendon and ramen in addition to the sushi items. I usually go for those home-cooking items such as ramen and donbiri, but this time, I got chirashi, as I had the Indian lunch at the food pod. It was very good!! My son's tempura don looked very good too. Yakitori too. This is a very small restaurant and does not have much ambiance. But the food, service, and price were all good. My new favorite in Portland!

A Hole in the Wall

By jaxxang |

It ' been there more than 15 yrs and you could walk right by w/out noticing except it's usually full. A clean change of pace from the Portland restaurant scene. Very fast and quick service with beer and sake. We made a meal from the appetizer specials. If you can get past it being a Hole in the Wall you will enjoy a simple and savory meal for not a lot of money.

Always good

By Donald J R |

I really enjoy this place each time I go there. The people are friendly, and the food is always good. They accommodate my requests for no meat in my dishes, which I really appreciate. I only have god things to say about this restaurant.

Many home cooking dishes to choose from

By Cattledogs |

We enjoyed Koji last year, so this was the place my son chose to go after spending 2 weeks in the Colorado wilderness. I thought Koji was izakaya but Koji is more like a teishokuya in Japan with many Japanese informal meals (home cooking) that we eat everyday. I had Chirashi last summer, and I was debating between chirashi and katsu curry. So many choices, only one stomach! We both ended up ordering katsu curry. It was very hot as we ordered karakuchi instead of mild. We are used to hot Japanese curry but it was hot!! I would not choose the hot one next time! We will be back!

Perfect Lunch

By Krayche |

I haven’t been to a Koji in years even though I’ve been working near one for a few months now. I had it in my head it would be way more expensive than the conveyor belt sushi places. Well, I’m so glad I finally had lunch there! I maybe spent a dollar or two more than the conveyor belt places, but the sushi was so much better it was worth it. My spicy tuna roll had big chucks of incredibly fresh, tasty tuna and my veggie roll was huge. If I hadn’t had other things going on this week I could have eaten there every day.

Good location in NE pdx lloyd center area Sept 2012

By Karolpdx |

I go here at lunchtime during the week. It has a slow lunch crowd, so not too crowded. Parking is difficult. You will have to park in the street to the rear on the right. Food is acceptible. Service could be better. Servers are very nice.

Very nice liitle Japanese restaurant.

By Ivan O |

I stumbled upon this little restaurant one night while looking for dinner. The sushi was fresh, although the pork kotsu curry was a bit different (but still tasty). Service was fast and courteous, cleanliness acceptable. Prices were very reasonable considering the location.

Extremely good surprise on Broadway

By MRMED8R |

I was lecturing at the local college and was walking back to my hotel and wanted something good and fresh to eat. I was alone, and didn't feel like sitting at a formal restaurant or stuck in a dark corner someplace. As I walked down Broadway across from the theatre where a comedian was scheduled to perform, I happened to notice Koji Osakaya in a set back storefront. That was the luckiest night of my trip! I walked in and was met by a pleasant oriental hostess who asked if I had a desire in seating. I would usually sit at a sushi bar if alone, or at a table if with others. Tonight, I asked to be seated in the bar area which had three tables in addition to the bar front seats. It is a small, somewhat cramped area , which I need to note is the ONLY reason for not getting a fifth star in my rating. I was approached by the bar tender, whose name I forgot. A young woman with short hair who was extremely pleasant. when I asked about Saki, she presented me with many options as well as a suggestion for a cold Saki that she said was her personal favorite. I am happy to say that it is now mine, although I made the foolish mistake of not taking down the name (Small bottle with a narrow neck, almost looking like a bottle of Mickey's green beer - sorry for that visual!). I found the check - Hakutsuru Tanrei! She left me alone while I pondered the menu, although kept her eye on me for when I was ready to order. This was so very appreciated. I despise being attacked by a server wanting my order the second I sit. Sure, we all like prompt service but it's nice to decompress a little first, and knowing that she was watching told me that she was truly a professional. I ordered my usual, Hamachi, Hotate, Hokkigai, Unagi and a bowl of Miso soup. The soup came timely and was delicious. In fact, the kitchen made a mistake in that they thought I didn't get it, and I was delivered another bowl. I declined it, but the server (different than the bartender) somewhat insisted and said to eat what I desired. I hated to waste but I enjoyed most of the second bowl as well! The sushi was delivered shortly after I finished my soup, and I was pleased to see appropriate sized portions. It's a little more than I usually pay for sushi, but not by much. The size of the filets were perfect and they were delicious. Fresh, firm and perfectly sized to the rice beds on which they were placed. They were very flavorful, and certainly none of the tingling cheeks caused by fish that should have been disposed of but was served anyway that I have experienced too many times. I was satisfied when I finished and happy that I had stopped in. I was checked on once or twice during my meal but again, not bombarded and allowed to enjoy the moment. I noticed that the crowd was beginning to arrive for the pre-show dinner and drinks, so I asked for the check to allow for another seating. In summary, this place ROCKS! I will be traveling to Portland frequently in the upcoming weeks / months and will absolutely stop back in whenever possible. Anyway, I ordred

Delicious Food, Friendly Service

By Donald J R |

Every time I dine here, the food is always delicious and tasty. The service is friendly and courteous. I really enjoy the combination lunch box. A testament to the quality and tastiness is the line that forms at lunch. You can have a long wait, but it's always worth it.

Good Japanese Food

By Keith T |

I chose Koji for dinner on a recent trip to Portland. The restaurant was busy and I had to wait about ten minutes for a table. In the meantime I observed what others were eating. I was impressed with the variety from noodles to sushi and in between. The restaurant itself is unassuming, but it's clean and active. I tried a sashimi special combination and several rolls. The food was fresh, the proper temperature, and tasty. My only regret - they were out of geoduck. I would definitely return on my next visit to downtown Portland.

Affordable sushi in downtown Portland

By kckucera |

We ate here for lunch on recommendation from our hotel in downtown Portland (Hotel Vintage Plaza). We had five adults, a three-year old, and a newborn. It was a little bit tight squeezing us all in (the space is not large). But we had an excellent lunch. We ordered miso and green tea for all, plus a variety of rolls, and some nigiri (hamachi was excellent). Everything was really tasty and fresh. It also was very affordable. For all we ordered, the total bill was only $80 pre-tip for five adults.

Udon noodles--my fave

By shewholovestoeat |

Have been here twice in the last week. Love the udon noodles. I used to eat at the Koji on Macadam. This location is doing things right. Tried the tempura udon last week, today was the curry beef udon and a spicy tuna roll. The roll had very fresh fish, and just the right amount of heat. Udon was fresh and very tasty. The curry was just right. Prices are good as is the service.

Sweet Little Sushi Bar On Broadway

By Randy C |

Went in here with friends one night while in Portland on business and craving sushi. Smallish. Not a great physical layout and forgetable decor. But, oh the sushi! We ordered a ton and it was all good. Fresh, moist. Table service was very good and friendly. This isn't a fancy place and it won't impress your date, but it's worth the visit if you're downtown for good sushi.

Nice Ramen Downtown

By James S |

Delicious ramen right on Broadway. Fast friendly service. Not much for atmosphere, but the food was good.

Great food

Just needed some basic Japanese food and found this place. It was awesome. Not a lot of people, sports on the TVs, and great food. I would recommend to anyone

Reasonably Price Good Japanese Food in Downtown PDX

By jimboblaze |

Koji is a reasonable priced place to get some decent Japanese food in downtown Portland, Oregon. The atmosphere is comfortable and the selection is pretty good. There are several locations in Portland with two just 4 blocks apart. The 606 SW Broadway location seems smaller and was much busier at lunch than the 1000 SW Broadway location. There was a wait for lunch on a weekday at the 606 location. The 1000 location had lots of open seating. The 1000 SW Broadway location seems slower during lunch and has better setting. If you can spend the extra few minutes walking the 4 or so blocks, I would recommend the 1000 SW Broadway location. I had a bowl of udon and my guest had curry rice with katsu. Both were very tasty. Service was quick too. We had our meals quickly which was great since we were short on time. If I am looking for lunch in that area again, I would definitely go back.

Good food, reasonably priced

By Bob S |

Koji offers fast service, tasty food, and a good location. If you're a gourmand, Koji's is probably not the place for you: my oyako donburi was about average. But the restaurant was right near our downtown hotel, there was no wait for dinner, and the price was right. Be sure to look for the roll specials on the little sign on the table. They offered lots of food for relatively little money.

Lunch - Sushi and Japanese Bento box

By JenMBoston |

Enjoyed lunch here with my daughter over the July 4th holiday weekend. She had the bento box and I had sushi. I think I enjoyed the sushi more than she liked her bento box. Service was also very good.

Enjoyable hidden restaurant

By zivsh |

Almost hidden, this nice restaurant was a nice surprise. The service was very welcoming and the menu had various good choices. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I would definitely return.

Very Easy to miss, but DON't

By Ts H |

Located on the street was an average looking eatery. We had just arrived from a long day of travel from the east coast and we were greeted with a warm welcome. The menu was varied but each member in the party noted "that was more than I expected" and the food was very tasty. I did not pay the bill but person paying the bill did not complain about the cost.

Great food

By FloripaGirl |

All four in our party thoroughly enjoyed our food. I had Teriyaki Salmon. Will certainly dine there again when I'm back in town.

Can’t get enough

By GavinWongUK |

Another trip to Portland and another trip to Koji. Consistent high quality udon, hence why I keep returning.

Tasty - excellent experience

By mrcmpdx |

Walked in as it was near our hotel. Small but crowded with extensive menu. Grilled squid was served to perfection, char broiled, crispy on the outside and just the right texture inside. Sushi rolls ware nice sized, fresh and held up nicely. Udon egg noodle soup was very interesting, totally enjoyable and quite delicious. Service was friendly and timely.

Excellent Japanese food

By Todd Y |

Came here for dinner on a Friday night. The place was not busy when I went in and ate but by the time I left it was apparent this is a pretty popular place, and for good reason. The menu has a vast variety of Japanese favorites--ramen, tempura, sushi, shioyaki--it's all there and then some. I chose to have appetizers and sushi for my dinner, in order to sample more items. The tempura was light, crispy and very fresh. It arrived to my table very hot, right out of the fryer. The tempura dipping sauce was delicious. Dashi (fish broth) nicely balanced with soy sauce and a hint of ginger (a nice touch I always look for in tempura broth). The saba shioyaki (grilled salted mackerel) was cooked nicely, crispy skin, tender fish. It could have used more salt (it tasted unsalted which defeats the purpose of the word shioyaki), but I'd rather be able to add salt rather than have it overly salted. The rainy day sushi roll had a nice balance of flavor, the sushi rice was nicely seasoned and had perfect texture. The nori (seaweed) was fragrant and tasty. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. This was a good find for Japanese food in Portland. I will return here on my next trip to Portland.

Tasty specialty rolls

By Susan K |

Friends recommended this restaurant. We went out of our way to find it. The service was good, the pie was reasonable, the locals were friendly and recommended the specialty rolls. Those rolls were the best part of our meal.It was a good quick diner but not a place that I need to return to.If I lived in the area, I would go for a quick sushi back up meal but as a visitor, we have had really amazing sushi in Portland.

Small 'student' sushi

By Rebecca_travelsaway |

Pleasant small sushi restaurant, relatively low price and not fussy. Best for take-aways, with plenty to choose from. Friendly staff

luv Koji's but this one...

luv Koji's but this one is too cramped

Average sushi

By hamvestor |

I had the deluxe sushi lunch. The sushi was passable but lacking in taste. My wife had the lunch special with teriyaki salmon and pork katsu. The salmon was good, but the pork katsu was tasteless and had substandard texture. The rice that was served with her meal was also tasteless. The service was friendly and enthusiastic.

Variety of Asian/Japanese cuisine

By Mark M |

Very good food with large portions. The lunch menu had a wide variety of choices with soup included. The beef and chicken dishes were particularly delicious.

Good, low key sushi bar! Went three times in one weekend.

By KingmanP |

I live in Toronto. I thought I put that out there so that viewers know where I am setting my bar on sushi. I have had sushi in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Seattle, and of course Tokyo. I think the sushi is great. Had the ikura, tuna, yellow tail, unagi, and sweet shrimp sushi. All were great. I also tried the katsu donburi (a bit sweet for my taste but negligeble, the unagi donburi (liked it), and the city beef ramen (loved it). No, I did not have them all in one sitting, but I did return to this nice cozy spot and had three meals in one weekend there. The sushi grade is good. Definitely on par with the ones I had in Los Angeles and Seattle. I would easily go back if I visit Portland again.

The Ramen was Very Good!

By dracman |

We were looking for a lighter lunch on a very cold day, we chose Koji because we read reviews the ramen was good there, they were right, the ramen is very good. The restaurant is small and I can see how it can become packed during lunch, we hit it on a holiday so the parking DT was free and the place was still full. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered tako, amaebi, and tekka maki, all which were very fresh. The menu is somewhat confusing as they offer standard ramen, soba, and udon noodle soups; however, when we looked above the sushi bar, we saw a cardboard sign advertising a build your own ramen package for less. We went the u-build it route and were not disappointed. The noodles were firm and soup base (the most important part) was good. I had the soy sauce base which was not too salty but not really distinctive. My wife had the pork bone base, which was good, though we have been spoiled by a true Okinawan style pork bone based soup. The service was okay, the prices were in line with similar sushi/Japanese restaurant fare. Koji is a chain and we would definietly stop at another location during a regular business day.

Nice little spot with great food.

By Thomas S |

We found this place online. We weren't sure how it was going to be but were pleasantly surprised. The sushi and rolls were amazing. Our favorites: The Angry Dragon roll and teriyaki salmon.

Great place, awesome food, good prices

By Fred J |

There are two ways to tell if a Japanese or Chinese restaurant is good, depending upon which coast you find yourself. On the East coast, in big cities, if you walk into the place on the early side of lunch or dinner and see lots of effervescent elderly Jewish ladies, you are assured of a spectacular meal with good prices. On the West coast, if you walk into a place and find lots of happy Asians, you are assured the same high quality of food and pricing. This tongue and cheek method has never failed me over the course of my well traveled life. I have been eating at Koji Osakaya for fifteen years of traveling to Portland. All their food is terrific, the staff have been there for years, so the service is efficient and friendly. The place is packed at meal time and well worth the wait. Everything is fresh and home made. Love this place!

Pocket-sized but a packed menu

By Bruce M |

With the feel of a small city centre diner, Koji Osakaya may not appear at first to be everyone's cup of tea. However, the Japanese flavours are authentic and the offering is extensive. It's particularly worthwhile checking out the listings for specials and drinks, both of which can offer a surprisingly wide selection, given the size of the establishment. If you can get a table, the value for money is pretty good for central Portland.

Nothing too spectacular

By lennytim828 |

Our share of Japanese restaurants in the west coast and their abundance have groomed our taste buds to a certain expectation. We walked into the restaurant under the wind and rain as we had decided to park our car in the DT area. We were totally exhausted after a day of major shopping, a part of our 4-days long mini vacation to Portland Oregon. The restaurant was typical of most Japanese restaurant where a sushi bar and a few tables are placed. Also in view is a board with daily specials and drinks. I had ordered ramen with chasui and my two daughters ordered sushi, a double trouble which was salmon and chopped scallop, a prawn and shrimp tempura, and an avocado roll. They were all alright but nothing too amazing. The service was friendly though and is located right in the DT area. We finished dinner in a relatively short time as it was late. I think they close at 9pm. In all, if you crave for Japanese and happen to be in the area, it is tryable.

Delicious food, great location, OK service

By Craig33viaje |

I eat here for lunch several times a year. Sometimes, I will even make a special trip across town when I'm really craving my favorite dish. The staff is friendly, but this place does get crowded at lunch, so don't expect fine dining service. The menu is big enough that everyone will find something they like and the sushi is consistently good. My favorite dish (no longer on the menu) is the spicy chicken donburi. They'll make it if you ask. Enjoy!

Yum!

Great Japanese food, and all kinds of it. Good vege options to choose from as well as omnivore ones. The staff are friendly and the place is cozy. Always good food here.

Don't let the appearance fool you this place is great

By bccrab |

From outside this looks like a bit of a hole in the wall and frankly it's not all that impressive inside either. The food however is fantastic. The sushi is absolutely wonderful here and the noodle dishes are as authentic as Tokyo. I had an udon bowl that I almost inhaled it was so good. Honestly haven't had one this good outside of Japan. The servers are really sweet and friendly. Not much to look at ( the restaurant -not the servers :) but the food will have me heading there as my first stop next time in Portland.

Boring boring boring

By Leslie M |

I'd love to love -- or even like -- this place. But I've gone in several times over the past year or so and I'm always a little disappointed. Don't know why, but the flavors seem to be just off. Last time I splurged on a tempura (part of their classic bento lunch), and it was cold -- room temperature at best. Ugh. I'd swear it had been sitting out for 20 minutes, at least. I have to say that I consume miso soup as often as I can, and Koji's is the most watery I've ever had -- no flavor, really, no flavor at all. Usually the servers there are friendly, But the service is slow -- they are so busy at lunchtime, maybe this is understandable.

Great Ramen

By Chang D |

I went there with a friend, and both of us did not have Japanese Ramen for a year. This place was great and did not let us down. The soup was tasty, the noodles were authentic and the atmosphere was good. What is best though is the price. It was considerably cheap for such a restaurant and such great food. Highly recommend for a cheap and awesome meal.

Small place with good food.

By Pibochen |

You blink and you will miss this place. We found it by chance when we were looking for a place for lunch. We had to wait for a bit and were then seated at the counter. There were lots on the menu to choose from and more if you also look at the boards. We had the perennial favourite tonkatsu lunch set and the grilled (broiled) mackerel lunch set and also the catepillar sushi roll. The lunch sets were fine, nothing surprising, except for the spaghetti underneath the meat and the fish. We've not seen that in any other sushi places before. The Caterpillar sushi maki was a roll with unagi (grilled eels) inside and avocado on the outside to make it all green and like a caterpillar. It looked fun and tasted good. The place was buzzing at lunch time; obviously the watering hole for many office workers in Downtown Portland. We walked passed it one evening and there were lots of people in there, too. A nice place to come but the chairs might be a little uncomfortable for a whole evening. It certainly was good value, especially where there is no sale tax in Oregon.

Had the katsudon. Not bad but not fantastic.

Best Udon In Portland

By GavinWongUK |

A colleague of mine introduced me to this place and I’ll definitely be back. Not your typical hipster Japanese place, but great food especially for lunch. I didn’t think much of the sushi in all honesty, but the udon was the best I’ve had outside of Asia. Noodles were the perfect texture, and the batter on the tempura was also perfectly light and crispy. Service was quick and friendly. I’m back in January for business again, and this is where I’ll be heading to once I’ve checked in to the hotel.

Authentic, Great Quality

By 85DTrip |

Having lived in Japan for more than two years, I can attest to the authentic style of the excellent food here. The lunch menu bento combinations are perfect. I make every effort to visit here when I am in town.

Don't go unless you want to waste money for poor quality

By Geneviève D |

I went there yesterday. I had beef yakisoba and a vegetarian roll. The roll was ok. The Yakisoba was terrible. I ate a fifth of it. There were only noodles in a broth with 3 tiny bits of beef and NOTHING ELSE. It was plain and tasteless. I paid 15$ and left hungry and so frustrated. Walk a bit further and you will find better places. I went there because the comments on TripAdvisor were good. Well, don't believe them.

Always good in a pinch.

By Jennifer Y |

When everything else is closed and its wet outside, Koji is always a good bet. The food is good but the decor has stayed the same for over 10 years and is starting to show it's age.

Didn't have their sushi...

By Jade O |

Didn't have their sushi. Had the ramen instead. It was pretty good and filling. Service was kind of slow, but their only waitress was quite busy so I forgive.

Great hole in the wall

By NickCafe |

This is the second time weve eaten here on two trips a year apart. Its small and often hard to get a seat in peak hours but worth the wait. Fresh sushi, authentic japanese dishes and a great value!

This like many Japanese...

By Climber72716 |

This like many Japanese restaurants in PDX, this place has one main sushishokunin that understands Japanse food and then a bunch of "workers" who don't know a thing about Japanese food. I ordered their agedashi-dofu several times and each time it tasted like onion rings. When I finally told the waitress, who also had no clue about the dish, her reply was"It's supposed to taste like that". Finally I realized that there was a deep fryer being used for all of their age (fried) dishes, which made everything take on the taste of the prevailing onions. I stopped going there. Save your money and go to Yuki on Broadway. Or better yet, go to Japan.

I'm a local

By Carl R |

I try not to eat near the more touristy place around pioneer square. But man O man. She had the sushi both raw and cooked. Fresh as can be. The miso soup was divine. The tempura was crisp, clean and delicious. They had a lunch bento box and I had the fried mackerel. Maybe we got lucky...maybe we were extra hungry. Either way this was hands down the best Japanese food we've had in Portland.

awful

By liming |

We are currently in Portland, Oregon visiting family and chose to have Japanese for dinner. This was the wrong choice. On appearance the restaurant is nothing special and maybe that should of been a clue. We sat down and ordered: A hot sake, "sorry we are out of hot sake"...really? Ok we ordered a glass of white wine which was fine. I then ordered spider roll, tempura shrimp roll and two pieces of ebi. The tempura shrimp roll was poorly rolled and fell apart when you picked it up. The Spider roll (fried soft shell crab) was so cold and rubbery that it was inedible and the "chef" didn't even plate the ebi. When I confronted the waitress about the spider roll being cold she said she would bring another. A few minutes later she came back and said sorry we can't do a new one...? Needless to say the ebi that never came was removed from the bill as well as the spider roll. All I can say is this has to be the worst excuse for a restaurant. Please do yourself a favor and find a better choice to eat.

Best local Japanese

Best local Japanese restaurant. Authentic and homey. I came here last year with some friends and had to come back again!

Great Bento Lunch

By Donald J R |

Love the Bento lunch combos! I have had many of the combos, and my favorite is the tempura and tonkatsu. I also like the angry dragon roll, and the ramen specials. Everything I have eaten here, and i've had most of the menu, has been good. I don't eat raw fish, but all of the cooked stuff is really good.

Portland does much better than this

By Carl R |

I had a bowl of noodle soup. The wife had the lunch box with tempura veggies and skewered chicken and salad with rice. We like Japanese food. This food seemed as though it didn't want to offend anyone. Very middle of the road, very bland. The lunchtime service was good. The ice water was cold. Everything is about 10 bucks a pop. Probably won't return

Good food good prices

Great service and very good food and good prices. Been eating here for 15 years. Highly recommend it

Great Udon Again

By GavinWongUK |

Returned to this place today for lunch with a friend. She also now has this place on her list. She didn’t believe me when I said it’s probably the best udon I’ve had outside of Asia, so there was a lot on the line for both the restaurant’s and my reputation haha. It didnt fail to deliver. The tofu dish that I tried this time was also good. I’m going to keep coming back to this place everytime I feel like udon.

Very good sushi- busy spot for couples and small groups

By OregonSharon |

We sat at the sushi bar. The sushi maker was very nice and made excellent sushi for us. The place is very small so it's pretty tight seating along the bar and not much space for a party larger than 4 people. The servers were working hard to get food delivered. I was surprised that we ordered green tea and I watched the server getting powder or such from a container and adding hot water to make the tea rather than tea bags or such. Location is great to get a fast bite before going to the theater or other downtown activity.

Excellent Sushi Bar!

Some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. The albacore melts in you mouth! Huge selection of signature rolls, they even have fried ice cream! Sushi chef was incredible, very sociable. Great service. Loved everything about this place.

Good value, room for improvement in atmosphere

I had the grilled teriyaki salmon dinner, which was excellent, and came with soup, salad, and rice. I ordered also an appetizer of gyoza, and, altogether, was definitely too much food! Still, I had the tempura green tea iced cream. It all came to $28. The decor, though, could be improved; it's slightly on the dinghy side, but still friendly enough.

Koji ..so healthy, soo good!

Great Japanese spot very near to many of the hotels in Portland. This little gem has amazing sushi rolls and a selection of noodles soups that made our evening warm and fantastic. We tried the Hawaiian Sunshine sushi roll (spicy scallops topped with fresh salmon) and Spider sushi roll (soft shell crab with fresh cucumbers) Kimazi udon noodle suop with tofu & Chashu ramen soup with spicy broth added. Excellent service, great prices, fantastic fresh food :) (soo healthy, soo good)

Old Fashioned Japanese restaurant

Koji Osakaya is an old fashioned Japanese restaurant. I had the ramen, which was okay, I could have made it at home. The noodles were firm, the broth tasted like packaged and the veggies were broccoli and carrots, something I would put on at home not at a restaurant. My wife had the Vegetable Curry which she said tasted like packaged curry. We also had the makisushi, which was rather pedestrian, nothing special, again made like I would make at home not in a restaurant. Overall the prices were relative to the food.

Good Food, Cozy Place, Friendly Staff

Found this place walking around. They have a good lunch deal. The food and service was good and friendly. If you come during lunch or dinner rush hour plan to wait as this is a SMALL place.
