Craved Jap food in Austin so visited this place. Solid but not spectacular but will satisfy your craving.

Like I told the manager, the fresh fish was the best I’ve tasted since Tokyo (see a previous review). I was impressed by the quality and quantity of the food for the price. The native Japanese couple who own this place, and three other restaurants of this type in Austin, take quality seriously. I ate edamame, miso soup, and two separate rolls: Alone together, and Crazy train - all washed down with an Asahi super dry. It all was delivered pretty promptly and the waiter took good care of getting the food out and water refilled. I sat at the sushi-prep bar and watched the seven prep chefs at work. They were great to watch and talk with. Apparently, they are allowed to create special dishes and test them out on a routine basis. The Crazy Train roll is one result. It was delicious and curiously different - a hint of lemon zest for twang, asparagus for some crunch and a touch of bitter, a little red pepper sauce for a kick, a little avocado to even the tastes out, and a couple of varieties of fresh fish. It is a trendy place, popular with millennials. I tried to get in a couple of previous times on my trip to Austin, but the wait was too much for my hunger. I stopped in just after a Texas thunderstorm and got a seat right away. I’ll try their other places in Austin next time out.

We were waiting about half hour to get a table. This place is probably the loudest I've ever visited - if you want to leave with a headache - it is a perfect place! Another half hour for sushi for my boyfriend (our order was written on the same card) and another half hour for my sushi! They served sushi to other people who ordered after us, but not me! I asked waitress about it and she said that it is not her fault, just kitchen and I am not right. Then manager/owner came and he admitted that I was right and other were served before us even if they ordered later. He apologized and gave us 50% discount. It was nice, but seriously, our wasted time wasn't worth it. And I ordered sushi with smoked salmon and get the raw one. I am sure that I will never visit this place again.

This is not a restaurant for anyone on a typical sushi budget, nor for large groups. Was worth going to for the experience. The restaurant was very small, but staff was super friendly. I will be going back to see if my next experience is better.

The lunch and dinner menus are very different, so check the website before you go. The offerings are very different from many so-called Japanese restaurants in the USA; no teriyaki, for example. The dishes will be very familiar to anyone who has traveled or lived in Japan; okonomoyaki, agadashitofu, karaage, sunemono, to name a few. All are very good. The only disappointment was the miso soup. The sushi fans in my group were very pleased. Good selection of sakes. Be prepared for a wait; they don't take reservations for groups smaller than six.

Line at the door before opening. Friendly greeting. Hot towel upon being seated. Then topped off with great cocktails and incredible fresh sushi. They had me at “hello!”

Seriously, this place is a gem. Came here because we were craving Japanese with our toddler in tow and saw that it's kid-friendly. SO happy we did. Cute little place with a very relaxed atmosphere serving awesome izakaya style Japanese food and delectable rolls. It was packed at 5:30 on a Saturday but we got a table right away. The staff was across the board super friendly. The hostess proactively got us a booster and a coloring sheet for our kiddo. They brought water for her in a plastic cup without us having to ask. And I love that our server, Jason, pointed out who our chef was behind the sushi counter. At one point a little mishap apparently happened with our second order of gyoza and one piece didn't make it on the plate; the manager not only brought it over personally just to let us know but comped an additional order. We didn't even ask. They're just that good. The food was yummy and their sauces were crazy good and original. We got the dynamite chicken (spicy fried chicken wings), gyoza (pork dumplings), go go roll (eel, avocado, cream cheese, omg!!), and spooky roll (spicy tuna, avo, go go sauce, salmon on top, holy deliciousness). It was all satisfying and dang tasty. My two year old ate an order and a half of the gyoza all by herself. Would totally come back here the next time we're in Austin. Five stars all the way.

Food is amazing and they have good selection of Sake. I tried cold Junmai and Ginjo Sake. They were good quality!

What an amazing sushi experience. We had dinner here last night as a family of four. We were seated at the sushi bar and it was a great time watching the chefs making our meal. The fish is super fresh and their menu is very diverse. We were having dinner when Ali Khan from Cheap Eats came in with his wife and sat beside us. We chatted with them and even sent them an order of duck breast with foie gras. Very nice people it was a pleasure to meet. I would highly recommend this sushi spot if you love good sushi at a great price.

This place serves up some pretty amazing Sushi, went here for lunch which was served Teishoku-Style which was a fixed menu with rice and some sides. Some really excellent rolls here on the menu.

After being away from Austin for three years my return included a measure of culture shock. New apartments had spring up, and along with them, new places to eat. Foremost among them — so far— is Komé, a family-owned restaurant reminiscent of faves in San Francisco. It is mot as small as it seems, and it’s menu is all-encompassing. I’ve only been for lunch, which is just wonderful. The $18 Bento Box seems like a lot to blow on a midday meal, but when you consider its 7-course components — including miso soup, fried chicken, a noodle salad, silken tofu in a luscious teriyaki kind of sauce, sashimi, and a diner’ s choice of sushi from a list of nine options. I have a healthy appetite, and I left with a to-go box that contained enough for a snack at dinner time. There are numerous other choices — rice bowls, noodle bowls, sushi and sashimi, appetizers that can be converted into a meal, and some of the best dumplings I’ve had in a long time. The service is efficient, not overly attentive, and friendly but not cloying. I love this place, in case you haven’t noticed, and am delighted I live close by — although there’s a risk that it can become habit-forming.

This is a nice local sushi place in Austin, nice looking exterior and interior and fast service. I have meet friends here a few times and have been served quickly. They have their own texas-themed sushi as well

Can be a long wait for a table at dinner. (In good weather, the wait is outside, but drinks are served to you.) 30 minutes is not uncommon. But: Once seated, the wait was worth it. All "courses" have superb offerings: appetizers and, miso soup are very good. The sushi: excellent---I think the best in the Austin area. Some of the sushi dishes alone are a filling meal (e.g., Blue Fin Tuna Poke: avocado, covered with blue fin tuna, seaweed salad, quail egg, and spicy sesame oil, with shrimp chips. Hot dishes available but have not yet sampled enough to rate them.

Fantastic food in an unexpected llocation. . . Typical Austin. Some of the best sushi and rolls I have ever had. Am in Austin fairly frequently on business and always try to eat here.

Delicious sushi and small plates in this little restaurant. Noisy inside the small place. Super-friendly staff. Everything we had was good. Reasonable prices.

Wonderful, comfortable, authentic and tasty. Every single item in the menu is a delight you cant go wrong with your choice! The staff are also very kind and friendly.

I had a lunch with my daughter at Kome sushi. I ordered Lunch Bento plate and my daughter got a Chirashi Sushi. I was very disappointed my Bento....sushi roll was blunt and Spicy tuna was taste old. Sweet and sour meat ball was overpowered by its sauce, in fact flavor was too strong I had to remove sauce in order to eat. But worst was Soba noodle salad, since chef marinated Wakame (seaweed) and soba noodle with vinaigrette sauce in advance, Wakame soaked up vinaigrette and became slimy , almost unable to eat. Only good thing in this bento was sashimi, they are fresh and nice. My daughter's Chirashi was very nice and all fish taste fresh. So if you go Kome Sushi in Austin, stick with Chirashi or Sashimi. NO to Bento!

Kome Sushi kitchen Pro - friendly staff, very impressive clear soup, taste like authentic Dobin Mushi, (comes with main dish), reasonable price (esp. Lunch set), tasty, fresh material, cleanliness. Con - due to its popularity, expect queue/waiting. What I do not appreciate is the acoustic arrangement of the restaurant, it was so loud as noise from people chatting reflecting in all direction. I noted they already installed some soft pad on some part of ceiling, and I assume it was for this purpose, not the decoration. It could be improved though.

Service was terrific but it was the food that was astounding. Had the panko shrimp, panko mashed potatoes and salmon. I could’ve cried. Sooooo good

My family and everyone I know loves Kome. The food is great, it has a cool vibe and atmosphere is super friendly. They go out of there way to make diners happy and satisfied!

Wow. This sushi place ROCKS! The food was super flavorful and fresh and hot. Our server was very attentive and helpful. Miso soup beyond what you've ever had...seaweed salad totally tasty...gyoza full of flavor...sushi rolls very yummy and fresh...the Chubby Sumo roll was gigantic!!! We've had sushi all over the world and this gem of a sushi place tops all others. If you love sushi and Japanese food...this is a MUST TRY!!! Well done. Two thumbs up (and the rest of the fingers too)!!!

The place is a wee bit split-brain. You have • Sushi (because, well, it's America, and this is a Japanese resto) • Ramen/Udon, usually pretty good (not great. but good) during lunch • Curry (again, lunch only. *really* good) • Various izakaya like things (skewers, small plates, etc.) in the evening • Sake (yesssss) The whole thing resembles one of those "catch-all" places at Japanese train stations, where you can get a little bit of, well, everything. It's all done quite well (again, by American standards). All in all, a place I go when I'm feeling somewhat nostalgic for #ThisJapaneseLife

Arrival was at 630pm. We were seeking a table for two. We were told the wait would be twenty minutes, so we went to Bun Belly for a drink. I had been here a few other times, and the wait had always been over an hour. We had a quick drink at Bun Belly and were then notified our table was ready. We were seated at the Sushi bar. Nothing much I can say about being seated at the Sushi bar. It is after all a Sushi bar. Feel free to meet your neighbors. We did have a waiter so there was not much interaction with the sushi chefs. Service was good with one exception. The waiter assured us that one of the deserts was vegetarian. Later, we came to find out that it was not and contained gelatin. There were many apologies. The miso soup was the starter of choice. This had a nice mild flavor and was served at the appropriate temperature. Lots of Tofu chunks. I also ordered the fries. Why I would order the fries at a sushi spot? I am not sure. I would never order again. They were just not that good. I had several pieces of nigiri which was nicely done. The rice and the fish were both fresh. I also tried a few of the rolls. None of these were exceptional. Edible for sure, but just nothing great. For Desert, the Japanese black sesame pudding was ordered. We were assured this was vegetarian. It was only after specifically inquiring about gelatin that we find it it was not. If you are not a vegetarian, it was pretty tasty. But if you are a vegetarian and are given it by mistake, it could ruin your night as it did for my boo. So I give this place mixed reviews, the nigiri was very good. The rolls not so much. The fires were poor. The service was good, but the server served a vegetarian a non vegetarian desert.

Brought my daughter here on a Wednesday night and was surprised to find the place packed for dinner! A very lively atmosphere but I'll admit, I was worried when I didn't recognize much on the menu. We settled on some rolls that were delicious and satisfying. I'm not a sushi regular and was worried that I would need to find a burger to eat after the meal....but the food was quite filing and so healthy!!

My boyfriend and I finally went to Kome for an early dinner and we've been back 5 times since then! I love sushi and by far this was the best I've ever had. I can't explain why it was top notch but it just was. They take reservations for parties of 6+ so in order to sit down immediately/short wait I recommend going on a weekday between 5-6:30 (they open at 5) or weekends when they first open(5 on Sat 5:30 on Sun). The mango/avocado rolls are amazing. For something more rich, try the tempura Camembert with honey or soy sauce ice cream (they call it something else and I believe it's not on the menu. It tastes like salted caramel). Divine!

All sushi and other food were delicious. I cannot tell you all I ate because my relative is a regular there and she did all the ordering. We were a group of 6 adults and we ordered tons of food. I just ate and all of them taste different and real good. I have lived in the US for 25 years, resided in 5 States and travel extensively, trying tons of Japanese restaurants. This was the best Japanese food I ever had. I was in town last year, love the food here. Tried it again this time, same good taste. My relative and me only drink hot water. We always order hot water in restaurants, but this one was exceptional: they gave each of us a lovely big pot and a cute cup. Therefore the water was always hot. Plus there is no strange taste. Quite often hot water from other restaurants contain coffee or chlorine smell. But not this restaurant. It taste like filter water from home. Water was free. The place was packed. But they still took good care of this extra thing. What a treat!

We have eaten sushi all over the world and this place was definitely in the running. Everything tasted fresh and was nicely prepared. We enjoyed the housemade gyoza so much, we ordered two servings. The Kome salad was fresh, with shredded daikon radish, red radish slices, cucumber, onion slices, greens, and a great sesame dressing. The seaweed salad was tasty as was the two sushi rolls. Service (by Kristin) was fast, friendly and efficient. Definitely a place to return to!

Kome was great surprise in this year's trip to Austin. Great service even when house is full. We went twice. This bow was filled with many flavours, complex and all delicious. Served piping hot. Great ambiance, sushimen great everybody that comes in. Crowd is young and gourgeous too. Sushi a litlle bit on the pricey side but wirth it. All ingredients are very fresh. Must go.

We always make a stop here when in Austin. My kids love the sushi and I live their soba salad. Always fresh and we go right when they open so we never have to wait. Two thumbs up!!

Good variety of Japanese cooking and sushi. Had the bento box which had 5 items all very good, especially the meatballs.. Also, the yakinuko was very good, flavorful. The sushi was very fresh, tasty and almost any type you would like, they have. Friendly, knowledgable staff

My first visit to Kome was for lunch. I was very impressed with the service, surf n turf roll, and the tempura. Leave it to Austin to add beef to a roll. This was unexpected and delicious.

My husband and I ended up at Kome by accident. We searched for sushi restaurant through Urbanspoon and chose a Korean BBQ place...that didn't sell sushi. The hostess suggested Kome and gave us directions. This spot is very intimate, hobo chic, eclectic, and cultural all in one. I can't remember our servers name but she was AWESOME! She thoroughly answered all of our menu/food questions and offered suggestions. She told us the story about how the restaurant came about. For an appetizer I had the Kome fries (suggested by our server). I thought they were going to be something other than a potato but it was basically waffle fries with seasoning (something green) and a green dipping sauce. I thought I was at Chic-fil-a for a minute. They were good though. So we got our sushi that we wanted and everything was delicious except the last roll that we ordered. It was a "fat roll" and tasted pretty much like a salad in a seaweed wrap and it was too big. Overall the food and the service was excellent but the only thing we didn't like was how noisy it was. There was a rowdy, drunk group there that had to be reprimanded by management several times. It kind of killed the vibe for having a quite and romantic dinner. Parking is limited so we parked at the business next door. There's also a late night donut shop in the next parking lot and the smell of those hot donuts was amazing! I would definitely go back to Kome when in Austin again.

This is some of the best sushi I've eaten in Austin (besides uchiko, and it's hard to top them). The nigiri is fantastic, the rolls were all delicious, and the prices were SO UNEXPECTEDLY INEXPENSIVE considering the quality of the food. Good service, cute place, will definitely return.

The crowds keep coming to Kome, and for good reason. The sushi, Ramen and Japanese dishes (traditional and non-traditional), are fresh, prepared with care and the service staff are top notch.

My wife and I went to Kome for a date night. We travel a lot a have had sushi from all over and have found much of Austin sushi either too "americanized" or altered so much that you hardly recognize it as sushi. We were both pleased by the great service and the laid back feel that Kome offered. Though not elegant, we found Kome to be clean and comfortable with the tables well spaced, As for the food, we stuck to traditional sushi rolls, Miso Soup, spicy tuna roll etc,,, We found all the food to be excellent, very fresh and of the highest quality. Kome is our new favorite sushi place and we will be going back often.

We went there for a friends' birthday. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Jason our server was very friendly and attentive. I am not a sushi person so I was very pleased to find many alternative dishes that were very tasty and well prepared. The sushi eaters in our group were amazed by their sushi. It was very fresh and the flavor combinations were superb. It is a great find in Austin, excellent food at great prices.

I've loved eating dinners at Kome, but thought the lunch menu looked uninteresting in comparison. Well, my opinion has changed! I had the sushi lunch: clear soup (tasted like dashi), 5 pieces of nigiri sushi, and a roll (got to pick from five choices). I also had an ankimo nigiri. The soup was very pleasant, with lots of enoki mushrooms. The nigiri sushi from the lunch was surprisingly good, as fresh tasting as if it had just been on the boat, and the rice and flavorings were perfect. I enjoyed the crunch dynamite roll, which was very well balanced so that the tuna was enhanced by the avocado rather than one or the other being lost in the combo. I was disappointed by the ankimo nigiri. I always order their ankimo salad/sashimi, which allows the flavor of the ankimo to sing while being offset by the dressing and accompaniments. In the nigiri, the flavor of the ankimo was clouded by the rice and the ponzu sauce. Not their fault, but I would recommend against it as a waste of ankimo. My friend had the kara-age teishoku, Thai style, and she loved the sauce that went with the chicken as well as the side dishes. I must compliment the server. We arrived relatively close to the lunch closing, and we never felt the least bit rushed. When I suggested we should hurry, the server said not to worry.

I really like this place - great atmosphere, good sushi and a friendly service. Highly recommended especially if you stay in a hotel around this area.

Austin has a decent set of Ramen joints, some of them quite good (Tatsu-ya and Jinya come to mind). Kome may not be as rocking as those, but it certainly puts forth a good effort. The curry-rice though is warm, comforting, and Just Right.

Very impressed by Kome. The sushi was top notch and the service was on point. This place gets extremely busy and for good reason. They open at 5:30 PM on Saturday's and when we arrived at 5:35 PM, all but one table was occupied. When we left an hour later, there was probably 40 people waiting outside.

I haven't had flavors like their since my trip to Japan. Everything was excellent.and the service was amazing. Wishing I had a trip to Austin soon so I could go back!

We recently came here again. We brought others with us. We reserved the party room as well. First of all, the room is a bit tight, so don't think it can accommodate more than 8 people. We quickly sat down since they close at 3 pm. They are firm on their kitchen closing at that time as well. We started to order, without the paper because we knew it was that good. We started off with all of the toros, then squid, octopus, then botan-ebi, and so on. We continued to order. Too many to list here. It's all worth it! Just go in, sit, and eat! A measure to see how good this place is. The next day, the other part of the group decided to purposely eat less at a scheduled lunch venue just to eat at Kome again, before driving back to Houston.

We brought our daughters here for lunch after a swim meet at UT. The owner is a former Uchi chef whose goal is to make affordable Japanese meals. His lunch specials are very reasonably priced with a nice variety of Ramen, sushi, and bento-box like options, with generous portions. My girls (ages 10 & 12) split cucumber rolls and the miso ramen, and enjoyed the greens and tasty pork. My husband loved his sushi lunch, with 5 nigiri and a choice of one roll-he went with the Sunshine roll. My unagi bowl was excellent with a very generous portion of BBQ eel which was delicious. We would definitely return.

The quality of the sushi consistently excels. Their ramen is better than the other ramen restaurants I've visited in Austin. Kome is one of my favorite lunch places and sometimes I find myself coming here 4 days a week. Yes, it's THAT good! The service is always great. The ambiance is cosy, cool and minimalist. It has a great vibe on top of the fabulous food.

This is a nice sushi and other japanese dishes small restaurant, the service was very good. My wife had sushi and I had Ramen. Sushi was ok, smaller portion than other places, flavor and presentation was average. Ramen was good and abundant with good flavor, spicey and rich. 3rd best for my taste behind Tat-su-ya and Hole in the wall. Very reasonsbly priced.

I think I'm a pretty good judge of Sushi. Been all over the world and had some of the best including in Japan. I thought this was some of the best I've had in Austin/surrounding area. I liked the casual ambiance and unique spin on the rolls. Kind of loud and probably not super romantic but the fish is fresh and wonderful!!

One of the things I've learned over the years, is that I love Japanese cuisine overall, just personally not a fan of sushi. However, my friend is a sushi fanatic and forgot, but there are always wonderful options on the menus for me. He had a sushi dish, that was beautifully plated, and I had a tempura dish with udon noodles and shrimp tempura. You added, the ginger, quail egg, and green onion (scalions) to the dipping bowl and then eat everything dipped. OMG it was delicious and filling. At one point during my meal, I was laughing at something silly my buddy said, and the chopsticks went flying from my hands to the floor. Oh well, by the time I had turned to pick them up, the wait staff had a fresh pair for me. Now, during the lunch rush, that, is great service. There are many wonderful options for a variety of tastes. Just walking into the restaurant is a lovely experience. It has the rich warm smells of any restaurant I've been to in Japan. I look forward to returning to explore more of this restaurants menu.

Great service, even better food! Took me back to Osaka via the service and food. Well worth any wait you might have—this is a must try in Austin, and especially if you like Japanese cuisine.

One of my favorite things to eat is Katsu. This was my first time visiting this restaurant. My friend (former Japanese language professor) suggested it. As we entered, we were welcomed loudly. I felt acknowledged. My friend and I both ordered Don Katsu (pork) after debating on whether or not to get the chicken). The soup tasted like it was instant, but the clear soup was pleasant enough. Then the waitress delivered a large dark green (or was it black, I forgot) concave plate that was molded like a three pronged leaf. On each prong was a shredded lettuce salad with the sesame-cream dressing mixed in. Just below it on another prong was a somewhat thicker-than-I'm- used-to panko-coated pork sliced into bite-sized portions. On the left prong was sticky short grained rice. All of it was perfection and we both savored it as we consumed the salad first and then the katsu and rice together. For me, it was just enough. I was full but not bloated. My friend wanted more so she ordered tempura. I was surprised to see that brussel sprouts was one of the vegetables used, in addition to onion, and asparagus. I liked the brussel sprouts. I didn't like the batter because it was a bit too oily for me. I started to eat one of the onions, but the oily batter forced me to eat it without the batter. I peeled it off. Normally when I get katsu from a Japanese restaurant, the pork or chicken is a very thin slice. I will return just because the meat was a healthy and tasty size and made it worth the price. It was fairly priced. We were the first to enter. By the time we left, the place was full. I also like the web page and reading about the owner's biography and history of their business. I highly recommend it for authentic tasting Japanese food.

We ordered various dishes. The maki roll was o.k., the rest tasted bland. The dishes bore Japanese names, but tasted more like regular fried food. The service was very good, but the restaurant was far to noisy, and the decor is not particularly appealing.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Austin. It's easy, affordable and the quality is top notch. Both sushi and cooked food and great. Love!

Komé Sushi offers great Japanese dishes. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes for the table, which is perfectly fine. The rolls we order were yummy and the prices fair. Friendly staff as well.

This place takes the cake for sushi!!!! I loved the friendliness of the staff, the ambiance of the restaurant and of course the food was the main attraction. I loved the freshness of the sushi and the flavors were all on point. Highly suggest the Sunshine, Spooky and Summertime!!!!

Went to Kome for lunch for the first time and I'm glad I did. I will definitely add it to our rotation as the food is delicious, the service prompt and the prices reasonable.

This is a great sushi restaurant and their selection of rolls is fantastic. From tempura to seaweed wrapped tuna. This is a very authentic Japanese restaurant (every bit as good as the similar restaurants I visited in Japan). It has very little atmosphere - it's a hole in the wall. It is small which makes it a little bit loud, but not terrible. I have been here a few times and the service has been good every time. This is an Austin hipster restaurant - the waiters and waitresses are tattooed and pierced and they are knowledgeable and friendly. If you like authentic Japanese food, you'll appreciate this place. Prices are fair, but not cheap - it's a small plate menu so you can try many items. Fun place!

Customer service is phenomenal. Appetizers came out quickly but sushi took some time the place was packed with four sushi chefs. Summer tempura roll is excellent and the miso ramen bowl really hit the spot on a cool day

If you love Uchi, you are going to love Kome, a hidden gem on Airport Blvd between 51st and I35. A former chef at Uchi that started Sushi a Go Go has now opened up this popular eating spot. The place has only been open for a couple of months and already there is a wait to get at table for lunch. I've been three times and have not been disappointed. They have a tasty and very reasonable lunch menu, For around 8 bucks you get an entree, soup, side salad and Japanese pickles. You have plenty of cash left over to try some of Kome's creative and interesting sushi rolls, try the MIdnight Sun, a deep fried sushi roll with salmon, cream cheese, avocado and jalapeno. Even if you are not a sushi fan, there is plenty on the menu to satisfy. The shrimp and vegetable tempura is melt-in-your mouth perfect and not greasy. The noodle soups are messy, but tasty. Try the soup special, if they have it - the miso ramen noodle soup with kemchi....spicy but not too many peppers, so you can taste the separate goodies in the soup: noodles, pork, quail egg and eel. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The have specials on beer, so skip going back to work. And split the green tea ice cream dessert with others at your table. We didn't see this on the menu, but the table next to us ordered it and it looked so good, we asked our waitress to order us one. Perfect, cool way to end a terrific meal.

I have eaten a lot of sushi but this place has much more than that. The server was very helpful explaining some of the new stuff. We all enjoyed the food we ordered. We would certainly go there again. We went for a late lunch, about 1:30. Tried going the evening before and the wait was over 30 mins.

Our group of eight people had a wonderful meal at Kome, and it was a great value, too. Before tip, our bill was $212, and that included a $62 bottle of sake. I'd like to say what our favorites were, but it's too hard because everything I tasted was my favorite, leaving only those things I didn't get to try to be my un-favorites. Well, that's not entirely true. I wouldn't recommend the baby octopus. It consists of a large amount of fried batter with a tiny bit of octopus. (That's why I rated it 4.) But otherwise... I always get their ankimo kobachi, and it was as wonderful this time as always. It comes with white cloud fungus and a delicious vinaigrette, and it might as well have a sign saying, "Get your umami mousse here!" I also ordered a special, an Uni Box, which was a small box with sushi rice topped with really prime uni, salmon roe and a fresh shiso leaf. Do get this if they have it and you like uni at all. The kome chazuke was delicious as always, and the kome-set is always a pleasure. The takoyaki are another perennial favorite. The okonomiyaki is very nice, but it's not what I learned of okonomiyaki in Japan. It's listed as Kansai style, but I had it in Tokyo, Osaka and HIroshimo, and the texture is completely different. On the other hand, my husband prefers Kome's version, so what does tradition give you? We had one person who raved about the tofu steak, but she didn't give me even a tiny taste, so I can't attest to it, myself. Really, we ordered 26 food items, and I can't review it all. As for the sake, it was Dreamy Clouds Rihaku Junmai Nigori, and it was well worth the splurge if you like nigori sake. It has a very delicate flavor with only a light sweetness. Yum! One more thing, you must get a reservation if you come as a group of six or more. It completely eliminates the very lengthy wait you would probably have otherwise.

First of all-the fish was fresher than beyond belief. What the heck was I eating before!? Let's not ask. Our server was very attentive to our needs. My daughter is crazy for the Summertime roll and they even brought one out quickly without sauce even though we forgot to mention it to them. They rock. The man loved their fries and the chicken wings and some other sides that weren't sushi. Diverse bunch of people eating there-families, couples, big groups. Nice place. If you go for dinner, get there early as this place isn't huge and fills up quickly. Good news travels fast!

Amazing selection of unique sushi, with a traditional menu to include a variety of both sashimi and and Nigiri style sushi. Quick service nice staff and worth the visit.

Fresh and delicious sushi for the novice to the shashimi. Couples, friends and Family friendly and lots of seating. They even a sushi prep bar if you are flying solo or just like the bar. Parking is good, but can be tight on a weekend. Never try sushi before? This is a great place to do it. Ask if you don't know and the waiters are great. Need a fork? No problem, no shame face from the waiter, they just want you to enjoy great sushi!

Perfect Choice. We requested bar seating, and though it took some understandably extra time for four to be seated there, it was well worth it. Jason at the bar made us feel at home immediately – the drink and food recommendations were spot on – he interceded on picking sushi bar chef choices and special variations and I’d have to say that the celebratory celebrity was made to feel absolutely special !! The food was presented elegantly and tasted spectacular. We had several courses (see picts) and left the drinks to Jason’s discretion and all lended to a very remarkable evening. Most definitely in need of a repeat performance. Kudos to seating staff for honoring our request, to Jason for being a capable intermediary on both chef specials and available drinks, to the chefs themselves for exemplary preparation, and for the owners on providing a work atmosphere conducive to employee exuberance in service, and to providing a fresh and delectable sampling of Japanese fare ! All of us agreed that this was one of our favorite outings in our Austin, and an excellent choice for this celebration. In absence of the proper vocabulary, JAWOHL !!

Was in town on a business trip, so I met up with my daughter for some sushi. Came to Kome based on other reviews. The food was fresh and came out fairly quickly. Our service was a bit abrupt, but not really rude. Be careful walking, however...I watched 2 people trip over the uneven floor...I guess when the place was renovated from whatever it was before they failed to even out the floors between the rooms. Overall, good experience, but not necessarily a place I have to return to on my next trip.

Excellent food and service! Everything is delicious! We really loved the ramen with the omelet on the top! 💕

We try to get over here for lunch because the wife loves the noodles. I'm not crazy about this kind of food, but I really love the Texas roll here. So, you can come here even if this type of food isn't your main thing.

The tofu steak was unlike anything I've had. I got the mushroom gravy and promptly ate it all. The salad is nice and light compared to the heavy gravy. It was perfect. The whole party loved their meal.

I have brought everyone I know in Austin here. My girlfriend recently started enjoying sushi but we haven't found any sushi places with good enough sashimi for her to enjoy the raw stuff. Unagi and California rolls can only get you so far, right? The spicy tuna roll absolutely hit the spot. I didn't even want to chew it, I just crushed it on my tongue. Fabulous. The sunshine roll with tuna, avo and mango? Even better I definitely recommend the lunch specials here- they haven't really been publicizing it but it's a killer deal for 12 bucks and youll get a roll and 5 pieces of ngiri you can brag about back at work

I visited Kome recently with friend - both in search of Ramen. Lunch at Kome was casual and relaxed with an eclectic group of diners. I ordered the grilled mackerel and a Texas brewed sake (didn't know that existed) and enjoyed every bit of lunch. I did not try the sushi but noticed many around us did as it was a popular item for lunch. I will definitely return to this hidden gem worth a visit if you're a fan of Japanese food.

A varied menu does not disappoint at this fantastic Sushi restaurant! Everything from the Tori-Teba chicken wings, tempuras of all kinds to the Surf and Turf roll and tasty Ramen places this dining establishment among one of the best of its kind in Austin! My server was very knowledgeable and friendly and unpretentious. Thumbs up to Kome!

Came to Kome with my family for Lunch. We enjoyed the sushi lunch special and the pork katsu. Definitely start with the homemade gyoza. Will be back.

This place had the best miso soup I have ever had. It was hopping, with a wait still, at 10pm. Superb and creative sushi and rolls. The one with the eel and crunchy topping was amazing. Excellent, fast, attentive service. Not quiet, but no problem talking.

I've eaten here a few times and enjoy the food and the people-watching. It's way too loud, but I can put up with that. The wait staff is great. At an early lunch here last week, I paid the bill and left, then discovered that I had left my wallet (it missed my purse and landed on the floor) so I called immediately. The hostess said if they found it they would call me. Not helpful. I drove to the restaurant, went to the table and saw my wallet on the floor, very easy to see. This disinterested, unhelpful attitude of the hostess has put me off of Kome.

I had some great wings and a steak bento box of sorts, while my wife went with sushi and such so we could share. We did take-out, so I'm not sure what dining is like, but I'll definitely be back to see if I can up the rating when we can dine-in, which is almost always better.

Going to keep this review simple. Get here with an intention to wait in line. Bring an appetite. Do not eat at places when you're full, half full, or have filled up with water. It doesn't make sense to spend good money for good food, just to enjoy it half-hearted-ly. Especially when you're talking about quality seafood. We got a lot of nigiri, only because sashimi would have been a lot for the selection of seafood we ordered. Must try are the Ankimo, very few places that we have found actually prepares Ankimo. Another must try is the scallops, raw shrimp with the fried shells, all of the toro's and Maguro (Tuna). This is also a place where if you'd like to try good, quality, clean tasting Uni, this is it. Many people do not like the texture nor taste of Uni, but it is an acquired taste. Some places will serve it and it will have a bit of a blk licorice, or rubbing alcohol taste. This place did not have it. Their default Uni is from Santa Barbara, CA. They do offer a Japanese Uni, but did not have it for us during lunch. The belly fat nigiri to genuinely delicious. Many people do not like this in the States bc we're conditioned for the lean meat. However, it is a very nice piece of sashimi that you must try. We order other types of cut and fish as well. Blue fin tuna, yellowtail, unagi, etc. The basics, but its the sourcing that matters. We gave this place 4 out of 5 only bc we've had better. But this is for sure a top pick for us within Austin and Houston. Great value, and its for what we got, it's not expensive at all, moderate.

Excellent for casual lunch -- convenient location at 53rd and Airport -- sit at the sushi bar -- we had nigiri, I liked the mackerel and sea bream. Attentive service and the Gruner Veltliner white wine was outstanding. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.

This is a really nice, reasonably priced, and fast place to eat some yummy sushi and other Japanese snacks. It was a savior to us during some low blood sugar freak outs but I’d go again anytime.

Good ideas but less than amazing follow through in technique. Ordered the tempura special and received tempura that was both 'tough' and undercooked at the center. I'm not sure how to describe the tempura other than chewy and toothsome. Which is not what I look for in tempura. We want it thin, crisp and crunchy. Next some rolls, all of which were too big and so full that lifting them off the serving plates left the rolls falling apart and dropping filling all over the table. I love the idea of adding lots of fillings to rolls, but it should still be wrapped tightly enough not to fall apart during transport. The wasabi was a dull note as well. Powdery and not very hot, it didn't linger or give a long slow building burn, just a brief sparkle of heat that dissipated quickly. There was a highlight though, the smoked nigiri in a jar was a fun presentation special and the taste was subtle and lovely. I definitely recommend it if it is available. Overall, I think Kome is great for people who just want sushi and want to go somewhere cool, but maybe don't have really high expectations of what their sushi experience ought to be.

We used to go to Kome on a weekly basis but moved further away from Kome late last year. We have tried to find a comparable sushi place in Northwest Austin and I'm starting to think it just can't be done. Even the small things like Edamame and Miso Soup are superior at Kome, so much so that it is difficult to eat elsewhere. My 9 year old son would eat here every day if he could (go Sunshine Roll!). Their happy hour makes it quite affordable and service is particularly quick if you arrive at opening time. Bottom line: Kome has great service and always fresh and excellent sushi.

This was my third visit to Austin and Kome restaurant. Already looking forward to coming back! Have tried a lot of the sushi as well as their appetizers and all were delicious! The octopus was so tender and very tasty. Service was excellent, love the coziness of the place and be sure and try one of their sake cocktails. So good!

Our first time at Kome. Saw it driving by so we checked website reviews for the next evening. We haven't found any of the isakaya type of shshi restaurants in the DFW are and were pleasantly surprised with this one.Similar in concept to a tapas bar with small plates. Starters were Tsukemono (Japanese pickled vegetables) which were tasty and crisp. Fried pork gyoza were light with a well seasoned filling. The Hotate (scallop) Carpaccio had a nice delicate scallop flavor with the addition of some white tobiko to give it a little crunch. The sushi rolls we tried all had a good flavor but the size made the a little difficult to manage. I may be nit picking here but most sushi places I go t make a longer roll with a smaller diameter that makes for a good bite. These rolls were a good three inches in diameter and were somewhat messy. W had ordered a Camembert Tempura because It was something really different. Out waiter, Dustin, suggested that we have it as a finisher. Good advice. It comes with a small bowl of honey for dipping. Let it cool a bit or you'll be dripping cheese all over.Add a touch of wasabi just for fun. Definitely a winner in my book.

We had a great time. If you are looking for more authentic Japanese dishes in Austin-this place does it. Some dishes may run out, such as O-toro. And there may be a wait during peak hours because they do not take reservations. The style of the restaurant tries to stay to true to a Japanese theme as well with its decor. Service was exceptional and we didn’t wait long. This place is great because this restaurant is tapas style. It can be pricey if you are coming in for a true dinner. Parking is also reasonable too. Also kids dishes are not your regular chicken nugget and burger; and I loved that. However if your child is a picky eater this may not be the place. We had toro, Mabo tofu, homemade gyoza, karage with Asahi beer and Suehiro “Densho” Yamahai Junmai. My daughter had the karage with potato croquette and their sake cheesecake. My high recommendations are: homemade gyoza, sake cheesecake. I do not recommend this place for large family gatherings of more than 6 people. It’s a great place to try new dishes and venture out if you are willing.

If you judge the quality of a Japanese restaurant by the Disneyland inspired sushi rolls with sweet sauces and junk stuffed into it then you may not appreciate what I about to say. I judge a sushi restaurant by seeing if they can do the basics first. Anyone can make a piece of raw fish taste good if you dump enough camouflage on top of it. Kome nailed it. I am talking a Nadia Comaneci 10. The fish is fresh, fresh and fresh. If you dip it in soy and wasabi it is a sin. Try something off of their special nigiri section of the menu if you want to know what eating in Tokyo is like. Try the Yojimbo sushi and DON'T DIP! Yakitori perfect, Agedashi Tofu was the best I have had outside of Japan. Firm tofu that can stand up to flash frying with bonito flakes, green onion, ginger, in a tempura sauce that doesn't taste like dishwater.

I really liked this place. The Mexican coke was huge and the prices were reasonable. The server was quick but efficient. The shrimp tempura and the longhorn roll without the green sauce was great. The edamame was tasty. Go earlier than noon as that is when they are crowded. The 20 dollars for sushi, tempura and soda was great. I want to thank Kris Umlauf for suggesting the tempura. It was fantastic.

If you like the real deal when it comes to Sushi-you can find it here. Expect to wait to be seated during the rush-this place is very busy with mainly UT students, small families and hipsters looking to get their Zen-on. Its small and noisy, but with that being said, really fresh mouth popping flavors. The rolls are incredible-Fat Samurai and Sunshine. Shrimp Tempura was buttery, crisp and light. Shrimp special with Chili sauce out of this world. Had a Makeral sashimi special-my family thought it was good--too fishy for me. They also had another sashimi-expensive tuna-they loved it--me not so much.

I recently dined here with my wife for a "date night", she had dined there before for lunch and thought it would be a fun place for us to experience together. We got there shortly after it opened on a Saturday, and they were just starting to let in the line of people who got there before it opened. So be ready to wait, the dining space isn't that large but it's laid out well to get people in but not have everyone bumping elbows. The food was excellent. I would put it just a bit below Uchi and Uchiko, but definitely on par with some of the other very good Japanese restaurants around Austin (thinking specifically of Maru and Musashino). My wife is a vegetarian, and she found several items to enjoy on this visit as well as several others for future visits. I had a couple of their kome original rolls (my favorite was the shrimp and softshell crab "tarantula" roll), and I found the flavors and textures to be really well-balanced and appetizing. I also had the tonpei-yaki omelette which was large and delicious. The setting was very appealing, I'm guessing they used the same designer as Uchi and Uchiko as it had the same general vibe. It's an open setting but it's not too loud, we could talk to each other easily but we didn't feel like we were eavesdropping on others. I wouldn't say it's the most romantic setting, but it's also not un-romantic. There were several groups with smaller children there during our meal, so it's definitely a solid option for the family as well. If you're looking for a nice Japanese meal in Austin, I definitely recommend you consider Kome.

All but one thing where truly excellent, we had one chicken wing that wasn't cooked all the way, and the chef disagreed. Still was amazing. We tried so much and I can only recommend you do the same.

I went to Kome with 3 of my girlfriends to have a great meal. One of them has lived in Japan for over a year and knows authentic Japanese food. she was in charge of ordering! I tasted Japanese dishes I have never had before and it was quite outstanding. Although our waitress was very kind, the service was a bit slow. The waiting area leaves a bit to be desired (and expect to wait!) it was small, cramped and hot. But the food and drinks makes this place a 4 star and one that I would revisit and recommend to others. Just not my parents - it is really loud in there and 'old folks' don't seem to appreciate that much!

Good food, fresh ingredients. The inside of the restaurant is small, close quarters and can tend to get overcrowded. Hey there early and snag a seat with some space. This place fills up quick at dinner so getting there early is wise. Also parking sucks, again get there early.

Great Food & Service. Sushi is very good , just as good as higher end places. Had a great meal and will be back !!

We initially tried to go on Saturday night the wait was too long. We decided to go back Sunday night still had to wait, it was about 1/2 hour wait. They had a server come outside so we could get drinks and there were a few places to sit. The Miso Soup was the best we've ever had. The my had some unique rolls. Really good sushi! If you have time to wait go ahead. The place's acoustics are loud but otherwise a really great place.

I lived 3 years in Japan, and when I went into Kome, I felt "natsukashii" (nostalgic). This is the first restaurant I've been in that reminded me of Japan's ramen-ya's. The place has more than ramen, but that's what I've fixated on trying in the cooler months. I believe they only serve ramen at lunch, so make sure to give it a go. They did miso ramen; rich broth, flavorful ingredients. Perfection. I'd requested this once in another restaurant years back and had been asked if I lived in Nagoya or somewhere. I had, but I didn't know that this was a more localized form of serving ramen in certain Japanese regions. Now I know where I can get my fix in Austin.

This place is a gem! It's very clean, the food is amazing and fresh. Jennifer was warm and welcoming. Ena was a wonderful server. Ena recommended the "alone together"roll. It's delicious! Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, topped with BBQ eel, go go sauce, eel sauce and tempura cruchies!

Terrific Japanese food! My son who lives in Montreal (foodie central) really loved the food here. That's saying something considering Montreal's great restaurants. I must agree...the food was delicious!

Been looking for a new sushi place for a while, and I have definitely found it. Sushi here is fresh, delicious and beautifully presented on a plate. My favorite roll is the Summertime roll. I have been here twice, both on a Saturday night around 5:30pm as I was taking a class in the area. The first time the wait was 40 minutes and the second time there was no waiting. Take your chances on the time, but wait or no wait, it's worth it!

The sushi was delicious, but my husband and I found it next to impossible to carry on a conversation over dinner. We rushed through the meal and had dessert elsewhere so we could have a good conversation on our anniversary. Adding more fabric to the decor and/or acoustical treatment/paneling would help a great deal.

I love Kome and can't wait to go back! Every dish we tried was amazing. I loved their waffle fries with the aioli sauce and the lone star roll was amazing. We also had gouza and a sunshine roll. Dessert was a delicious blend of flavor a and textures. Our bill was $60 for three apps, two rolls and two glasses of wine. Way more affordable than other places in the area. Previous reviews were right about the acoustics. Not great for an intimate date but perfect for a loud girls night. Also there's limited parking and it gets super busy. I parked on a side street and walked a bit. The food at Kome is definitely worth a bit of a wait and they have outdoor patio area to hang out in.

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of a nearby Japanese grocery store. The server was tremendously helpful and encouraged me to try something new and he was right. The salmon was melt in your mouth and all the sushi was so fresh and silky. Even though I live in Dallas I would definitely go again

We've eaten at Komé a few times and have never been disappointed. There is always a wait (they don't take reservations) but we've found it worth it. Service is friendly, prompt and helpful. They have a good drink menu with cocktails, beer, wine, and, of course, saki. The menu offers a large selection of interesting dishes. The cocktails we've had there have been good as have the wines. The food has always been delicious and well prepared. The sound level is the one low point in that it is so loud that conversation is difficult. Again, we've been tho Komé several times and will return.

my mother and i were going to have a light lunch ... but we kept ordering because it was so good. we will have to come back

We hit up this place bc our normal sushi place started making us go inside. This place does contactless pickup and everything we got was great, sashimi, rolls, rice dish.. their sushi selection was slightly smaller but the quality was much higher. Definitely will return.

Kome is a excellent Sushi/Japanese spot in Austin. We went as a group of 7 and had a great time ordering from all areas of the menu. service was great as well. If your in Austin check this place out.

This place has been our lunch favorite for many years. The new location has nice modern interior decor and much easier parking. The staff are always friendly and the many sushi chefs always deliver consistently delicious food. We order the mango jango mixed non- alcoholic drink which was zingy and sweet. Both the crab and Austin rolls have just the right consistency where both rice and the fish melts in your mouth. The tonkatsu ramen with grilled pork and hand tossed noodles is about as good as they get with lots of savory vegetables. The Katsuton fried pork with eggs and rice has a sweet taste not found in other restaurants. For ramen and sushi rolls made with the best ingredients Kome will not disappoint.

Kome is the best sushi I have eaten in years. The staff is amazing and the food heavenly. The octopus entree is the best. Don't miss this culinary ride to Tokyo.

First off our water in our water glasses smelled fishy!!! Decor looks like a frat house was hired to decorate the place. Expensive, terrible service, average food. Don't waste your time or money here!
Great food and services with reasonable price
Pros: Great food and services with reasonable price. Sushi, ramen and udon are all great to us. Customer service are excellent. Orders come out fairly quick. Cons: the place is always packed during weekend. Average wait-time is minimum 30 minutes
