Used to love the tuna wonton crisps with a salad, so they were back on the menu and I ordered them with a side Caesar salad. Tuna was good but the crisp was more like a nacho chip. Salad was WAY overdressed and wilted. Good wine though.

We were at La Cantera shopping and this place looked good. It did not disappoint! The food was amazing and the service great! The soft shell crab sandwich was crazy good!! A must!!

As usual, service was great. Our favorite behind the bar is Nick. Food is very good, ambiance is good, and consistently fun. We always meet someone fun there. Plus in bar area are tv's with sports.

Wife and I went for a dinner on Monday around 5:30PM. Immediately enjoyed the atmosphere, Host, and server. Ordered a potsticker appetizer. It was not the best and actually had a raw doughy taste. Big bowl in Chicago is still the best tasting ever. For the main dish she had a rainbow sushi roll that served 8 pieces and was well enough. I had ordered the chicken pad Thai and was disappointed. Do not order this dish if you want original style Thai. Not even close, mushy noodles and no heat whatsoever and was never asked by the server, so I don't think they have heat sauce levels. Total was $43 and we drank water. I would go back and I do recommend, just not for the pad Thai. Thanks for reading and if it helped give a thumbs up!

I have been to this particular Kona Grill A few times. In the past everything was as expected and tasty. This time I was disappointed. When I ordered the Kona Filet and asked for medium rare the waiter recommended I get at least medium well because they often times came out undercooked. If that is the case the cook should be trained on how to properly prepare a steak. I told the waiter, who was phenomenal, that I still wanted it medium rare and if it came out too rare I could always send it back for a bit more searing. When I received my meal the steak was over cooked, not under cooked. Very disappointed. My dates sushi was wonderful according to her.

Layla was awesome I will definitely be back because of her abs Trey in the bar both were very knowledgeable

Seasonal burger with jalapeños and a volcano sushi roll. The burger was juicy and smoky and tasted amazing, sushi was fresh and excellent.

Worthwhile restaurant while visiting the La Cantera mall in San Antonio. Good food. Some unusual menu items.

I ordered the "Pan-Seared Ahi" and it was okay... the sweet chili sauce tasted like it was out of a jar, not homemade. The Tuna was gray on the inside, and while it was cooked medium it just looked unappetizing. It was okay, far from the best Ahi Tuna steak I have ever had. My husband got the Miso-Saké Sea Bass and was fairly happy about it. I agree with other reviewers that this place is just a hype. Seriously over priced.....

Okay, I realize I don't do "upscale" restaurants very often, but I have to say - this was so good and really not that expensive! My BFF and I met at the Kona Grill in La Cantera on a Tuesday at 4:40pm, sat right away on the lovely covered patio/bar, and watched the wealthy and wannabes wander by. Our server was perfect - attentive without being intrusive, didn't act rushed (even though I'm sure she had several tables), and was just as nice as could be. We asked a lot of questions and she was extremely knowledgeable about drinks and food. Did I talk about that yet? Oh my! I had a Sake Sangria (white wine) that had wonderful fresh fruit and went perfectly with my food. My friend had a margarita and declared it was "delicious." We ordered from the happy hour menu: fried calamari and a sushi roll with crab and lots more wonderful things. We were getting full, but we wanted more than enough, so we had more sushi and drinks. Other guests around us were enjoying the bar, the people-watching, and some couples even had young children. It was great...and then it started to rain. But the patio overhang was plenty of cover, and the al fresco atmosphere was just great. I loved this place!

While we were looking for a good restaurant to have a dinner, we got recommended this place in San Antonio, Tx, at the beginning and with the venue we thought that might be it to appease our hunger and to enjoy a memorable moment. Looking at the menu noticed that there's no reference to any of the dishes served nor any type of ilustrarían of what you'll get, most of it is as the chef wants it to be, but the menu is not cheap and you'll be disappointed once you order and receive not what you imagine that in most of the restaurants you'll receive a well distributed and balanced plate with enough food quantity to suffice your hunger. We ordered both a sushi mine was the Las Vegas style roll made to tempura, her was the Veggie Roll, the service was fast with the drinks and very nice waitress we had very polite and charming. When we received our plates approximately only 5 and small pieces of sushi surrounded by lots of eel sauce and that was it, oh I forgot on a enormous plate in case you wanted to say they don't serve big dishes, honestly if it wasn't because I was enjoying the time with my couple it would be a total wreck of a date, honestly we didn't have not the minimum desire to get dessert, maybe was bigger than these orders but who knows, for the price I would rather prefer eat somewhere else that can show quantity for the money you spent.

I've had a hard time finding places that serve sashimi. So I was ecstatic that Kona had several different types available. I had the octopus and eel. They were delectable. My teenage boys have never liked sushi but they enjoyed both the sushi and sashimi here. We ordered seconds here. The Pad Thai was so good. I had ordered a flat bread with peperoni just in case and that was very good as well.

We come here often because the sushi is just as good as the more expensive PF Chang's and the two happy hours are great. Between 3-7 and again between 9-11, get drafts for $3.75, margaritas for $5.25 and even saki bombers for $7.75! Food is excellent! A wide choice of sushi rolls. Our favorite item on the menu, however, is the Pad Thai! A little more expensive at $16, but it's enough for 2! Great, attentive service without the need to know your server intimately. Lauren and Becca are great! Finally, the 2 patio areas are great for people watching.

Great wait staff, excellent food, and fantastic happy hour prices. A little bummed we could not sit outside in the beautiful weather though. All the sushi, rolls and sashimi were delicious!

We had our New Years Day lunch at this location. The food was excellent, a little pricey. Customer service needs improvement. The waiter failed to provide us silverware and did not come by our table until we were finished with our meal and only then gave us the bill. We were not given the opportunity to order desserts. Our order consisted of Pad Thai Noodles and Avocado Turkey Sandwich. The food and the ambience of the restaurant is the only reason why I rated it with 4 Stars.

Lunch with a delicious bloody mary, and extensive menu. Great ambiance and fun place. Servers are polite and friendly. Food was delicious. Cheeseburger sliders and a sushi roll was excellent. Prices are excellent for the food presented. Definitely a great place to eat while shopping at La Cantera.

Stopped because it is close to the resort. Inside looked good. Service was ok. I ordered the chopped salad with chicken. Was good. Also ordered sweet potatoe fries. They were very thin and good, but pricey for $7.00. Husband ordered the macadamia nut chicken with mashed potatoes and a broccoli type veg. He like the chicken but did not care for the mashed potatoes.

I had the ahi tuna dish for lunch. It was delicious. The service was really on top of things. I only got to the bottom of my beverage once because they were so prompt with refills. This place exceeded my expectations about what a nice lunch for around $20 can be. Try it out.

My daughter suggested this place to us. We had a blast, our waiter was super cool and the shui was fantastic. If I ever have a chance to go back, I will make the stop!

Recently went to Kona Grill during a shopping trip to the La Cantera Mall. We had been to this restaurant several years ago and had remember it as a good place to eat. Unfortunately, either we or the establishment has changed. My bet is on the establishment. My wife and kids opted for pasta which they found to be tastelessness. In an attempt to cover the bland and lifeless dish the restaurant decided to add a large amount of pepper flakes my guess is that it is their way of trying to hide the lack of flavor. Not at all a hit with anyone at the table. Most of the meal went untouched My meal, the club sandwich had limp lettuce, burnt bacon and some kind of deli meat that was salty enough to raise anyone's blood pressure. Very few restaurants can fail at making a club sandwich, Kona has certainly found a way. Top the afternoon off with slow service, weak tea and a $119.00 bill and you have what We would consider pretty much a failed meal. My recommendation is to eat elsewhere.

This place never let's me down! Delicious food and great drinks! My personal favorites are the Chicken and Shrimp lettuce wraps, Crab Crunch Roll, Edamame, Red Sake Sangria and London Mules! The prices are outrageously cheap during Happy Hour and the service is always lovely!!

Celeste was amazing!! Food was delicious!! Overall a great experience!! We got together for a business luncheon and everything was amazing!

Brief Review: Lunch on Thursday - only a handful of tables were occupied, allot of wait staff it appeared - thinking this would be a great experience for my sister and I during our day out shopping. The waiter was NOT engaged at all, no smile, only once came back to the table after food was served. We had to motion for him over for the check. A very loud atmosphere with the overhead music, could not hear my sister speaking to me at all from across the table. Not a fun experience for lunch. I give this restaurant a NO WAY will I step through your door again.

Our server Raul made the night for us from his recommendations to his general presence he helped to make the night a memorable one

This is a fun restauranr which really wants to make their customers real happy. Waitresses are quick to help. Chefs will make some items to meet individual tastes. I thought it to be a bit on the pricey side. However, everyone enjoyed their meal. Ifthere was any problem, it was with the noise comming from the customers. There is little to absorb the sound waves and conversations were difficult.

Pathetic is nicest word that I can use to describe this place. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Indifferent staff, horrible bar staff and piss poor ambiance. I have not experienced this kind of service in San Antonio, ever. This is not a franchise that belongs in the RIver City. Please do not waste your time or money. mangy managers behind the bar with their inept barkeep. These people were more worried about counting their inventory an going home than making customer's dining service pleasant. Not typical of San Antonio.

A friend of mine considers Kona as his favorite restaurant and it is fast becoming mine as well. There are many factors that endear a restaurant to its patrons and Kona definitely has two of the criteria that top my list (good food and a pleasant atmosphere are a given); a chef that can and will make changes to a menu item, and a manager that is personable and seems to genuinely care about the satisfaction of the diners. Our latest experience centered around a craving for a fried fish sandwich. We had one here before and it was absolutely spectacular. The only fried fish sandwich that I have cosumed in recent history that would give Kona's a run for the money would be the flounder burger they used to serve at Black Beard's on South Padre Island across from Port Isabel. Kona definitely has the fresh fish with tuna and ahi flown in from Hawaii. But the sandwich we enjoyed a few visits ago was one chef Seth prepared for us of fried tempura battered mahi-mahi. That was good enough to bring tears to the eyes of any seafood loving kanaka. We were craving that same rendition only to find that there was no mahi-mahi in the house. Seth persuaded us to try the albacore, which I have never had fried, with the promise that if we didn't like it, which he was sure we would, he would take it off the bill and prepare us another dish. That was an invitation we could not resist after Seth brought a fresh, pink, albacore steak to our table to show us what he would be cooking. The sandwich arrived plated with the in-house prepared taro chips, which we love, and a soft brioche bun with one side spread with a pesto aioli and topped with lettuce, sliced tomato and avocado slices, The other side contained not only a good 1/2" golden fried tempura battered filet that covered the bun, but also another huge hunk of fish that made it nearly impossible to put the lid on this sandwich. Barely managing to put the hood down on this double-hander, I compressed the sandwich with a firm downward pressure. Unhinging my jaws for the first bite was a challenge, but I have not been bested by any sandwich yet, regardless of its vertical girth. Creamy avocado, savory aioli and the freshest fish on bread that melted away as you chewed; definitely not too shabby. This sandwich was a keeper; not quite as good as the mahi-mah, but still damn good. Seth returned to make sure we liked the sandwich and to let us know that the next time we get the craving to let him know 2 or 3 days in advance and he would have some mahi-mahi flown in from Hawaii to make the sandwich with our preferred fish. You could have knocked me over with a feather! If that was not over-accommodating enough, the manager, Patrick, came by to check on us. When he found our visit was a belated birthday celebration, he afforded me the choice of any dessert on the menu gratis. "Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright, The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout, And there's tremendous joy in Mudville—mighty Casey just hit a grand slam!" (with apologies to Ernest Thayer for taking poetic license.). I find it easy to let the superlatives just roll of my tongue for that level of five star restaurant conduct towards an every day Joe of a diner like myself. Bravo Kona! Bravo! Lafayette, we shall return!

I suffered here. The waiter was very slow, he was inefficient, he talks a little. I didn’t have the soy sauce for my sushi until we paid the check. I asked Miso soup that was salty and terrible, my spicy tuna roll was flavorless. Please avoid going this restaurant, it is not worth it

Anna was an amazing server! Very attentive and sweet. Food was really delicious , the sushi came out fast. Will for sure be back 😊

What do chili, sushi and pad thai have in common? NOTHING. Which is why you should never see them on the same menu. It's just a sign that anything you order will be terrible, and that is exactly what happened. We were 3 - 1 ordered a chicken flatbread, 1 ordered salmon and vegetables with rice and 1 ordered stir fry. All pretty straightforward low risk dishes, and none of us finished or enjoyed our meals. It was just plain terrible - it was oversalted, overcooked and the flavours were bland. All 3 of us agreed this was a terrible experience.

This is the perfect place to go with friends or your SO for really good sushi, apps, and drinks! My boyfriend and I had spent a few hours walking around La Cantera and it was the perfect place to rest after. Really cool service and cleanliness is a big plus for me!

My friends love this place! We always come here, and today we got Gabbie as a server. By far the best experience yet! Love the environment and the food!

Came to eat at Kona while shopping with the family , our server was Layla she was so knowledgeable and friendly.. definitely coming back

This was a revisit after a long absence as well (other recent reviews for Kona). Our past experience (years ago) left a lot to be desired. However, we LOVED our Valentine's Day lunch! It was a quick decision as we were meeting nearby. Devan was an excellent server. Food was delicious and quick. The Smoked Gouda Fondue that comes with tasty puffy pretzels and apples are a great appetizer. Also, I highly recommend the Salmon & Tuna Naruto. It's a Sushi dish that has no rice but rather a cucumber 'paper' roll with a vinegary sauce and nice heat. Their Checkerboard Roll was also delicious. Craving it today so can't wait to go back! Also, I'm very pleased that they are allergy friendly!

Our server was great and addd to our evening. Sushi was fresh but limited in selections, large selection of cold sake which was great. Busy and noisy so come prepared for that, very casual and reasonable prices.

The restaraunt was over-staffed. Waitress(Mercedes) took our order and we never saw her again till she gave us the bill. Nobody refilled our water glasses and nobody(waitress in particular) asked if we would like desert. The food was over priced for the quality of service. There was no reason for not checking on our table or asking if we needed anything else. I would not recommend or ever go back.

We ate here for a light evening meal. We split the pork sliders with sweet potato fries, and also split the chopped salad. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sliders were packed full of pork with slaw. The salad was large enough to split, and it was topped with tender cut chicken. We will definitely go back again!

We love this place! We have been eating at Kona Grills for years and we just keep coming back. The sweet chili glazed salmon with friend rice is my absolute favorite and I would recommend everyone try it.

We booked a reservation for our son's 12th birthday at his request. We hadn't been to Kona in 6 or more years so he wanted to go. Walked in the door an the smell hit me like a ton of bricks. There was a fowl stagnant odor, I looked up at the nastiest air vents I've seen. I wanted to walk out, but my son was glowing with excitement. I literally could decide on anything because there was a dead bug in the square light features next to our table. Again, our son was excited, he told.the waitress it was his birthday. He was so excited about having the staff sing to him. He blissfully happy. We ordered drinks, a draft beer and flight of margaritas. The beer was hot and the flughts were undrinkable. They froze margarita slush sat on top of syrup. We asked the waitress to take the drinks back and ordered a traditional margarita on the rocks. It was so wierd, the bartender dropped of the drink and made a point to say, he filled it to the top, this one should be good. The margarita tasted like coconut. Couldn't decide if he made the wrong drink or used a dirty shaker. Given the cleanliness of the rest of the place it could have been the latter. I thought I just try a different type of drink so I ordered a lemon drop which listed hypnotic as an ingredient. So I was expecting to see a light blue cocktail. No, I had a sour lemon drink in a martini glass. I don't know what was happening at the bar, but it was all wrong. The meal sucked just as bad. The plates were very greasy and felt gritty on the bottom. My husband's ribeye steak was thin and fatty. My son didn't like his surf and turf. At the end of all that, the waitress hadn't taken off the flights we didn't drink or remember my son's birthday. He left feeling like crap. While we did try to save the day by going to cheesecake factory for desert, it left a cringy stain on his big day. To be honest no one should eat this place before it's deep cleaned. That place is a serious health violation. I don't know how they passed their safety inspections. Our tab $241, dirty establishment, dirty plates, dirty toast machine, 1 of 4 people got food poisoning. Never again will I dine at a Kona restaurant no matter how much the group I'm with insists. Really appalled by the whole experience.

The restaurant engenders very mixed opinions. We had a very pleasant experience. Our waiter Krayon took good care of us, making sure the many courses we ordered were well spaced and delivered hot. The food was good, if not great, and easily met our expectations. The place is noisy as other diners have noted. This is not a romantic place, but fun for a change of pace.

I used to go to Kona Grill at La Cantera at least once a week for lunch just to get the Basil Pesto Linguine. I've even got my two young children hooked on Kona and they like to go there for their birthdays. I was really disappointed that the Basil Pesto dish is no longer on the menu. I understand that menus change but it was by far the best dish and I thought it was quite popular. Please, please bring back this dish. (I haven't been back since I was told it was off the menu).

The poke is good, only the amount of protein is small. I'm really glad you can pay right there with the electronic device.

Ate here with the family after a day at Six Flags. It was pretty decent and less expensive than buying food at Six Flags! I had the Calamari appetizer along with the Avocado Rolls, and the main course was the Grilled Salmon with the fried rice and okra. All were very good and so was the service.

Horrible experience, total Friday night meat market. Dined with my two daughters after we shopped, 2 guys roamed around and hit on girls, including my 12 year old daughter. Told her "yeah baby eat that soup"! The manager who did chase them out but did not seem apologetic for what happened to her. Food tasted processed at best. Server was horrible and disappeared all the time, never even offer a beverage to my daughters which made me think, since they weren't drinking alcohol we wasn't going to make any money. Before we were even off our seat a group of people dove in to take them. I will never go back. Entire experience was horrible

Brunch with the ladies before they go and help out the San Antonio economy. Kona was a welcome break from the Aug Texas heat. Our lunch choices were delicious. The Kona Club was large enough for both my wife and I to share. Others had the sushi and no complaints there. Good food, pleasant atmosphere

The food was excellent and very delicious. Celeste was very attentive to our group. I would recommend to friends and family.

Had to be the best fried fish sandwich I have ever had!! Started out trying to order an off-the-menu sandwich that the manager had suggested last time we were here. We told him what we were looking for and he suggested a tempura battered version with the fish that had just been delivered to the restaurant 45 minutes previous, which, I believe turned out to be sea bass. This time, the fresh fish was Hawaiian Snapper and we snapped at the chance to have a similar sandwich again. Whoops! Guess the waiter did not quite get that we wanted it fried as we received some perfectly delicious looking grilled fish. We ended up explaining to the waiter, then the manager and then the executive chef just what we were looking for and man, did they deliver. I have had very few fish sandwiches where the fish plank was twice the size of the bun and about as thick. Perfectly fried a light golden brown and served with a basil aioli along with slice avocado and tomato on a fresh kaiser role and served with taro chips, this sandwich had us at hello. I think the only fried fish sandwich I ever had that was as good or better was in Cabo on Lobo Beach at a little house of a restaurant in the middle of a scuba "village". The huge steaks of sea bass they fried had just been caught. Outstanding!! The fish we had today tasted just as fresh and we only had to travel a few miles to get it. I don't know what Kona Grill the nay sayers have been eating at, but it certainly cannot have been this one! Anyway, I am certain that they did not have the king of fish sandwiches.

Awesome place, great happy hour. Get the saki bomb and sushi roll at happy hour price!! They got reverse happy hour prices. Plenty of beautiful women to look at. Chill place.

My family and I visited the Kona Grill at La Contera Shops. We are from Las Vegas and in Summerlin the Kona Grill is our main hang out so with high expectations in mind the Kona at La Contera does not disappoint, it is very fancy, the food was superb, drinks are spot on, and our waiter was top notch, When we move to San Antonio this will be our new trendy spot.

Situated in the La Canterra shopping mall, the Kona Grill is a nice place to have lunch. The salads with added meat are quite good. The Oriental is probably the best. On the sandwich side, the Avocado and grilled chicken is exceptional. They can keep tgevTaro Root crackers - they add nothing to the meal. A much better choice would be Sea Salt Potato Chips. The wine is overpriced which put a bit of downer on the overall experience. Our server did a fine job.

Run! Don't walk to take advantage of the wonderful & deliciously inexpensive lunch menu @ Mona Grill. It is part of the Culinaria SA Restaurant week offerings. Many restaurants offer both lunch & dinner menus at sometimes seriously discounted prices until the end of the month. Go to Culinariasa.org and find Tier 1 & Tier 2 pricing. Tier 2 has lower prices. We chose the chicken pot stickers, which were great! A soy/onion sauce & small slaw salad w/an Asian dressing are on the lovely, long, rectangular dish. For the second course, we both selected the pork tenderloin, cooked perfectly & served w/a lovely shitaki mushroom sauce and mashed, red potatoes & sautéed bokchoy. My husband selected the butter cake served w/Blue Bunny vanilla bean ice cream. I liked my salted caramel crème brulee. Three raspberries were served on top. All this for only $15 a person. I recommend going online & finding restaurants that you have always wanted to try & do so for much-reduced prices. Caution: some restaurants are offering tea, coffee with the meal; most do not. Taxes & drinks are extra.

Kona Grill is a decent place to grab lunch with friends or colleagues. It is relatively quiet and the food is good.

The Kona has always been great in terms of cuisine. Service can be hit or miss, but overall enjoy the food and atmosphere. The Picasso roll is a favorite, and our picky eater son loved the burger with brioche. Generally pretty busy, and the sushi happy hour is a winner for sure.

Horrible service. Very rude associates. Horrible customer service experience. As a business owner associates need more training and experience.

Ir was my best friend's birthday and she picked the place. The atmosphere is great as well as its decorations. The food is very good; even though I had to ask them to get mine hot - it was serve a little on the cold side. The waitress was very attentive, courteous and gave great suggestions.

First time here. Last time. Servers so busy with young girls at the bar that they could have cared less. Very loud. Not a great way to celebrate!!

We arrived just at apx. 8:20 PM and were told the wait would be apx. 45 minutes. It was very crowded but we made our way to the far end of the bar (by the service area) and ordered drinks. The bartender wasn't overly friendly, but he was busy. We had one more round and our table was ready apx.65 minutes after arrival. The waitress was wonderful! She suggested several different dishes then gave us a few minutes to decide. The food came out exactly as ordered, hot and delicious. It is extremely noisy inside, but we really enjoyed this visit. We have a Kona in Stamford (where I now live) and it's much quieter - not sure why. I know the reviews for this restaurant are all over the board, but we had a great time.

6/27/2015 This location is located in the Shops at La Cantera next to Barnes and Nobles, Lids and Forever 21. My family and I decided to eat here for dinner. When we arrived one of the hostess got my attention only to tell me the other hostess will tell me the wait time??? The hostess began to tell me they have an Happy Hour that begins in 30 minutes( 9pm) in the bar area and everthing is 1/2 priced. We thought we thought we would wait the 30 minutes and comeback. Well as we did the entire bar area was packed so we decided to be seated outside the bar area. I did not realize we were seated next to the bathroom(YUCK!!!) so we moved. It is VERY loud for an eating establishment(more like a night club). After our order was taken I Iooked at my watch and it was 9:15 (we were about to leave) but our food arrived at almost 9:50 for the following: Side Shrimp & Pork Rice....$4.00(my daughter did not like the pineapples included) Shrimp & Lobster Roll...$14.00 substituted Habernero cream cheese for plain cream cheese...50 cents Tempura style....$1.00 Iced Tea...$2.75 Las Vegas Roll...$12.00 Bama Roll...$13.50 Avocado Roll...$3.50 add cucumbers...50cents TOTAL...$52.25 We only came here because my daughter had never been and we thought we would give it another try since we were in another city but not again.

Perhaps because this chain restaurant is strategically located in an upscale shopping area, near easy parking, it's a great meeting place for couples or groups of friends. So convenient for one in the party to get sushi and another--a burger! The sushi sampler is fresh and delicious, but the best part was the huge Key Lime Pie. There's a variety of wine, even for picky wine people.

Our whole family loves this place. We can almost always get a last minute Open Table reservation. It's the only decent family-friendly restaurant at La Cantera that accepts reservations, which makes it much easier on the kids. You'll wait an hour for a table everywhere else. Rachel is the best server we've ever had. She takes great care of our younger children (ages 6 and 7) and treats our older children like grownups. And her recommendations are spot on. The new remodel is very cool. The food has always been fantastic. Try sushi rolls for an appetizer and the sea bass for dinner. The red velvet cake will feed 3-4. The kids menu here is really good. Our youngest enjoys the bento box-style presentation. Our family sat together for an hour and a half on Saturday night and had a great time. It's a little on the pricey side, as family fare goes, but worth the splurge for special occasions.

I was there last Sunday eating sushi and I ended to the hospital for 4 days with abdominal pain and intestines diseases .i didn't eat anything else on that day.they have to check safety and quality of raw fish they use for sushi

We had spent the night for a concert and headed to La Cantera mall. This mall is one of the finest malls ever! Just beautiful with flowers, beautiful tree's, sitting areas however it is outdoors so hot summer day, cold winter or rainy days you may want to find another. OK enough of that. We were recommended to Kona Grill by an employee at one of the stores. It was the Friday before Memorial Day at lunch. There was a 15-20 minute wait. A waiter came and told us if we wanted to sit at the sushi bar that he could serve us right then. We decided to do just that. It was AWESOME!!! Watching these guys prepare sushi and other dishes was amazing and entertaining. If you are with a group or 4 you may not want to sit at the suchi bar but for my husband and I it was delightful to watch. It put us in a wow state of mind. The salad we ordered were the best we have ever had and the dressing was out of this world. I ordered the chopped salad with Macadamia nut crusted chicken. It had egg, avocados, cherry tomatoes and good mixed greens. Like I said it was the best salad I think I have ever eaten. My husband had the Chili Lime Shrimp Salad and he said the same thing. My husband was served the wrong salad. They had it replaced in about 3 minutes and was free when the bill came. It had shrimp, sautéed mushrooms, corn, some crispy type things (lol) with mixed greens. As I said the place was packed, our service was GREAT and we were served very fast! It has gone to the top of one of my favorite places to eat when out of town for that special lunch and I'm pretty critical. Haven't tried dinner but we will. Also the atmosphere was very pleasant.

Kona is an extremely pleasant surprise! Our friend who is from San Antonio told us that even though we were at the River Walk for the weekend "WE HAD TO GO TO KONA!" I'm grateful that she gave us the advice as the food was impeccable! The service was disappointing especially as we were there when they were not that busy and I don't even remember her smiling. I would have rated this exper "Very Good" though the service was "below average to average." Hopefully Kona can amp up their customer service because the food and prices are great!!

Visited the Kona Grill for lunch and ordered a Chicken Kona Chopped Salad which was enormous and extremely delicious! The prosecco was also very tasty and went down well with the rest of our food. The service was very good and the ambience very relaxing for a Friday lunchtime. The restaurant is family friendly and reasonably priced so well worth a visit when shopping at LaCantera, San Antonio.

our party of four tried a variety of dishes from bbq ribs, salmon salad, sushi, jambalaya ... food was all okay as was service ... however, the ambiance was noisy and not conducive for the casual get together and talking among friends we had planned ... with many options available we would go somewhere else next time

... but others with different ones seemed to be waiting a long time for their food. It was two days before Christmas at lunch, but they were only about half full. Some management dweeb came by my table and inquired how things were "this evening" - clearly he wasn't connected to reality! The food was OK, but pricey beyond its value. I also had to wait too long for the check. Definitely not worth the first visit, much less a second.

We went to Kona Grill for dinner before going to Carlo's Bakery for dessert. The food was okay, the service was terrible. Ordered the Kona Stir Fry - rice wasn't cooked well, it was crunchy and the dish had no flavour. Husband had the Cuban Sandwich which was much better. Kiddo had chicken fingers and french fries which were honestly the best part of the dinner. Waiter/bartender brought the wrong drinks and near the end of our meal we didn't see our waiter for a good twenty minutes even after asking for the bill to two different staff.

We went here with another couple. The wives ordered several sushi dishes and were happy. I ordered the house special - the macadamia chicken, clam chowder and a chili lime shrimp salad. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the sauces complemented the chicken but they severely skimped on the sauce. The waiter described the clam chowder as creamy but in fact it was more in line with the clammy side of chowder - which was ok with me. The real disappointment was the salad which was ordered to go. The salad consisted mostly of greens with beautiful but tiny pieces of avocado and thin limp slices of onion and some corn, along with some somewhat soggy crisps. The shrimp was the most disappointing part of the salad - under seasoned, nearly flavorless and quite hard in texture - no sign of fresh shrimp here. I got the feeling that these were made up beforehand and left to sit in the kitchen refrigerator. Not much sign of lime flavor either. This salad could be a real hit if they would put somewhat larger pieces of the real star ingredients into the dish and used fresh shrimp instead of the hard little tasteless shrimp. I live right across from the shopping center where the restaurant is located and I would eat there more often if they stepped up the dishes- especially that poor chili lime salad.

The service and food delivery were both slow. The food itself was good but nothing you will never forget, it's in the mall so it's convenient. you won't feel like you were cheated, so that's better than a lot of restaurants

Order the moscow mule, drink was ok, not price listed in the menu, drink was $12.00. Place has different area, outside, romantic, bar area. Overall place good to visit.

Was awesome. I went to the new restaurant at the North Star Mall and I fall in Love with it! The food had a great taste. I order the Lobster Mac really creamy & Cheese. It should be served with bread and my Mom order the Shrimp pasta the service really nice.

Good food, great service in the LaCantera area. Good for couples or a group. Also good for simply having drinks with appetizers,

Great place for HH with friends. Apparently they’re moving soon, looking forward to seeing their new location! Try the Picasso roll, so yummy!

Nice place , tried the avocado spring rolls , they were ok but not great, the sushi was very good and service was also very good, a bit expensive

Love the Coconut Rock Mojito! Like the new "look" as since they renovated it, open and not as dark inside. Great food and service on my recent visit.

Loved meeting a girlfriend here for a toast and to split some sushi rolls. The atmosphere and service was top notch! The food was as tasty as I remember it. The spicy edamame is SPICY! But, I always have the avocado egg roll and just HATE to share it. Delicious and never greasy.

Good food. Very loud atmosphere. Very eclectically decorated. Pricey place,$100 for four people. Plating was well done. Service was solid. They don't really understand the concept of extra garnishing though. Still very nice place.

I stopped in for an early lunch and decided to sit at the bar the bartender was friendly, fun and helpful. I took her recommendation and tried the macadamia nut chicken. Very tasty eats while my helpful bartender recommended things to see and do in San Antonio. Good service is as important to a meal as the food, and my expectations for both were well met at Kona Grill!

Frequent eating here. Always good food off the lunch and happy hour specials menu. Always had very good service. Happy hour is usually busy, but regular seating always still available.

staff. The food is okay, granted our waiter had appetizer, salad and entree all arrive in a 90 second window. He delivers plates with his thumb squarely in the center of the plate, delivers glasses by holding where people drink from vs the stem and massacre’s common grammar. Spends way too much time discussing workout regimens with a waitress with two feet of my spouse’s head and displaying a remarkably foul vocabulary. Dude, ask her out and be done with it. I have no idea what he did to deserve a tip. He received a decent amount. The management needs to step up. Poorly bussed and cleaned tables. Hostess crew enjoys work ! If only those pesky customers would stop coming in. So, okay food and no plans to return.

Went for a corporate event and had the best time! Bella was especially friendly and had great service Highly recommend their steaks and sushi!

So let me start with the standard. The food was really tasty and The decor was upscale casual. Even on a busy shopping day, we were able to be seated immediately. However, then we sat. We sat for about 15 minutes, no one checking in, no water, no waiter... Nada. After 20 mins and watching others be seated and served, we checked back in with the hostess. She ran off and got a waiter who served us promptly... And then we waited... Again. This was all saved by the manager, doing an excellent job, coming over, sunset dog apologizing and comping part of our meal. All in all we were not in a hurry but we watched tables turn over twice while we sat and had our 2hr lunch.

The food is good here but the prices are way out of line with other places. $37.00 for Fish and Chips which were no better than any other place you can get them was a shock. All the prices are elevated but that one is unbelievable.

Our third trip to this local restaurant for us and we enjoy the waiting staff and the atmosphere. This Sunday was happy hour, so we will try that next visit. We had the usual calamari, sushi rainbow roll, pot stickers, coke, and tried the lobster mac & cheese. For the meager price (Sarcasm) of $59.75 excluding tip. All were good except I literally was choking down the lobster mac & cheese. I think it is the white truffle sauce that does not satisfy the tongues taste buds. Wife agreed, so next time we will skip that and try something new again. Recommend always for a good meal EXCEPT this lobster mac & cheese dish - YUCK, Thanks for reading and if it helped give a thumbs up. RetiredArmyRANGER

Sorry... All hype and nothing special here. A restaurant that wants to be something to everyone that just ends up doing nothing really well. Just repackaged chain restaurant. It works if you need something to fill the void but if your looking for a stellar meal go elsewhere. The service was OK- I think our waitress had too many tables and mistakes were made. The food was OK... even the "fresh catch" wasn't too lively. How could I rate without finding something good- some of the flavor combinations were interesting and worth exploring.

I went to eat las week with my family, and the service was just amazing! Kaylee was our server and she did a fantastic job, her food and drink recommendations were spot on! Definitely recommend!

We had never tried Kona anywhere and like most assumed it was a sushi joint and were we surprised! A full grill menu from pizza to burgers and, of course, sushi. Libations included a wide variety of quality wines and an assortment of draft beers. We tried the sweet pepper salmon that had a fried rice that was topped with broiled/ flame effects. The broccoli side was alos perfect- suspect blanced with the perfect balance between soft and crunch. We do Japanese often and this was the best miso ever! THE BEST PART about the experience was our server- knowledgeable about each item on the menu with lots of pride. She made the experience worthwhile! Tables & booths are enough apart to ensure a level of private conversations. VERY CLEAN!

We joined some out of town guests for lunch. Had reservations...not needed, as restaurant almost empty. It took forever to get our food once we ordered. 3 bento boxes, some sushi, and a sandwich. Food was just average, and my sandwich was inedible: asked for NO mustard, had mustard on both sides, so I couldn't even pick off the sandwich ingredients. Waitress was not too friendly, and just did her job. Even had to wait for the check. Very expensive for a lunch. Noisy children arrived and were unsupervised by both their parents and the restaurant staff. Who really wants crying, running, kids right by their table? Bottom line: would I eat here again? Absolutely not.

We came out to shop at La Cantera mall and while my hubby was waiting for me, he landed up at Kona Grill. When I was done, I met him at the outdoor patio. The weather was absolutely perfect and the beer was COLD! We had a crab sushi, Diablo shrimp and chicken satay. Wow, what a great combo and excellent service from Jesus. Thank you for the great food, service and atmosphere!

The restaurant is in a Mall with a Cheesecake Cafe across the hall, which had a long lineup. We didn't want to wait so went to the Kona Grill and are very glad we did on a Friday night. Great cocktails and beer selection. My husband had sushi and i had fish. Service was very good. We went back on Saturday for lunch and discovered Happy Hour in the bar with reduced prices on drinks and food. We share , potstickers, and my husband had the cheeseburgers sliders (terrific and filling) and i had the chicken & lettuce wraps which i enjoyed.

While shopping at La Cantera, we stopped in for a snack and a drink. The Chicken Satay was overcooked, rubbery chicken strips with no seasoning and no taste. The California Roll was just OK - tasted like the one HEB sells - nothing special. The Moscow Mule was packed with 3/4" round ice cubes - it probably had about 3 - 4 ounces of liquid! The only thing you could taste was the ginger beer. When the liquid was gone, the copper mug was still full to the top with ice. We are not going back!

Met up with some friends and ate so much sushi could barely walk out😂 Happy hour is the best, so much sushi at half the price! Dragon Roll was my absolute fave! Only complaint, the Margarita was very weak, don't get those unless that's what you're looking for. All in all great place!

The menu at this restaurant is very interesting and varied. Portions are not large. Service is good but not excellent.

Great happy hour !! For someone who cannot eat nori they have a great selection of sushi rolls that are made with soy paper instead! And they don’t charge you unlike other restaurants to switch it out if you want a roll that has nori. Best time to go is Sunday’s happy hour all day Most of the time staff is very friendly but there’s a few who seems to be inconvenienced by your presence.

We had dinner here for our son's 16th birthday. The staff was awesome about letting us make reservations and making sure we had a great time. Food was great and customer service to match. We had the jambalaya (spicy), burgers, Alfredo pasta...all the food was great.

Stopped by while visiting friends. You can dress up or go casual nice and have a wonderful time. The happy hour had a great mixture of appetizers, sushi and drinks.

We're frequent diners at Kona Grill locations in Arizona. The food was even better than our Kona Grills in AZ.

Stopped here on my way to Dr appt. I love sea food and this fit the bill. Had a very personable server named Shea. Overall experience was very good. Will stop again when I’m in San Antonio.

I actually have been twice in one week. Both times all food was excellent. My daughter ordered the sliders and they were so big she took one of the two home. More like regular burgers! Pasta was delicious.

The new happy hour menu is terrible. They took off so many of my favorite items. The potstickers are now only sold in increments of two, and it was just overall disappointing.

Not sure if it was the sweatpants and hoodies or the fact that my boys were energetic monkeys (yes all over the place) but we didn’t get the attention that others table got. The food was good when it actually got to table . But what they called shrimp tempura was basically popcorn shrimp. Just not what I thought Kona Grill was ! And I guess what the MOD or Front of resturant MOD looked to occupied to be bothered or for that matter to see how actually customers experiences if they were being met.

Gabriella Seay is the best server at Kona! She’s hard working, dedicated, funny, and always puts a smile on my face. Overall Gabbie makes my Kona experience better every time!

Our experience was good, the waitress knew the answer to our questions on the menu. She was nice and gave an excellent service. We were a group of 9 and everything was served on time and with no delays or errors. Menu is good because it has a great variety of dishes and entries. The prices are well set fir this type of restaurant and food was really good. Definitely will be back.

Terrible dining experience. The place was not busy but still took forever to take our order. Martini served in a wine glass without garnish as all their glasses were dirty and they were unable to make daughters drink order. Sent the martini back. The food order came to us piecemeal after complaining about how long it was taking. Never received utensils and we had to go find our own. Food was okay but not worth the price. At the end of our meal were told they had martini glasses and could make my martini. Bartender either has an issue with me or a complete idiot. Served me a warm vodka shot in a martini glass. Manager never came by to talk to us and the poor waitress was in tears. I expect a certain level of service on a $400 tab.

when shopping at La Cantera. We have been several times and the food is consistently very good. My review this time centers around service. Loved my flatbread and had 1/2 left. Our server, Gavan, offered to have it boxed up for me and off he went. He was back in two minutes, embarrassed look on his face, to let me know that he had dropped my leftovers and had put in an order for a new one for me to take home. We were in a bit of a rush to get home and I told him that it wasn't necessary. He then proceeded to remove the flatbread from my order completely and only charged me for my guests lunch. This kind of service is what has me coming back repeatedly when I am in the neighborhood. The food is a bit pricey but it isn't fast food and the cost of ingredients and location dictate pricing. We will be back and I hope that Gavan is still working there when we go.

Excellent presentation and choice of entrees - Macadamia nut chicken for example. Our table of 7 also shared 5 appetizers so we splurged. It was New Year's Eve after all. Server struggled with cocktail selections since he was only 18 but he made every effort. We had a second table of our 6 kids ages 10-20. They had a great time ordering without adult supervision and that server handled it well. Pricey but good. Need a ride to it if you are staying on the Riverwalk.

My family and i had lunch here and really enjoyed our food very and the service as well. Juliette is great, very efficient and very nice. I would request for her for future dining. Thank you Juliette!

Wife and I found this restaurant near La Cantera Resort. Wide choice of appetizers & entrées. Didn't try the sushi. Lots of diners....

This is an outstanding restaurant with a great atmosphere. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. Our waitress was excellent and super professional. It was a very welcoming place and I will be going again very soon, I highly recommend to eat here if you love Asian fusion food.

Such a great spot to go with friends! Gabbie was my server and she was fantastic, helpful, quick, and such a wonderful waitress! Would recommended Gabbie if going to Kona!!

We met here for a girls night out on Saturday evening, there was a total of 4 of us. We were seated at a booth, which was nice and roomy. The appetizers and sushi was all very tasety. Love the avacado rolls! Our server was awesome!!! He did an excellent job of suggesting items and talking to the bartendar to create drinks to our liking. It was perfect! Delicious food, and great service!! Love it!!

Shopped into the evening meal hours and stopped in for a second visit. This time I had the chili and cornbread and the french dip sandwich. Chili was very good and the roast beef was good also however, I would have preferred less fat in the dipping sauce. We had our usual Pot stickers for appetizers and she had her sushi roll. We like this place because the menu supports different culture and tastes. Atmosphere is nice also and go outside if you want a quiet conversation. Thanks for reading.

Sat at the sushi bar and both times had to ask for a place setting and utensils. They were not that busy but wait staff did not know what they were doing.

I love going to Kona grill for the sake bombs. Im there almost every weekend and I receive great service every time, especially from my server Anna. I can’t wait to be back!

I have not been here since they have remodeled. It is a lot more open with a very airy feeling, not as dark, but also a little bit more noisy. The food was excellent as always and the service flawless.

I’d seen this Hawaiian dish on Parts Unknown and thought it looked great. Not counting on great Hawaiian food in San Antonio, I went to this chain just to check it out. What can I say? It was great! A great blend of spicy and sweet, everything was fresh and delicious. We had the shrimp bowl, but plan to go back for the regular. Give yourself a treat! Aloha!

We had a great time at the Kona Grill. The wait was very short, the staff was great-from the greeter to the waitstaff, and the food was super. I had their Kona Club and it was piled high with meat and all the trimming and came with a side of Taro chips. Very interesting and quite tasty. Highly recommended. My wife and daughter had a couple great plates of sushi and said the miso soup was wonderful. Our friends 6 year old liked his kids cheese pizza so much that we had to order him a second. And their kids sundaes were eaten in a flash. All in all a great dining experience.

Happy hour or even reverse happy hour (after9pm) are top notch. This is one of the best sushi places in town. Not to worry they have many many other dishes and they are all very good, but their sushi and the selection is really very good.. You just need to go for lunch, dinner, or happy hour. If they are busy, put your name on the list and go shop. They are located near some really great shops... and try their drinks, the hire a top flight of bar tenders and you really can not go wrong...

Love this place for happy hour, and recently they remodeled the entire restaurant making it a bit more open. Be here early for happy hour because the deals are so good that most people end up waiting on a table in the bar and patio area. The outside patio could use some fans because Texas heat combined with alcohol isn't the most pleasant, but after a while of sweating you begin to acclimate lol. Love the sangria, crab crunch roll and the burger sliders!

I really love the sweet chili glazed salmon dish, and the sushi. The restaurant looks really clean which is really nice. I do wish they still had the onion soup though, and I hope they bring back this type of salmon salad I enjoyed. I love to eat my dish along with some nice miso soup. :)

Extremely loud atmosphere - we had to send our food back because it was spicy...with no description in the menu. Service was slow. Not a fun experience, sorry to say.

we had a birthday dinner at this restaurant and the food was served ok, and the service was ok, but my wife got sick and had some kind of reaction to the food, my wife and I had the Kona stir fry, and the tomato bisque, my son had the steak and my grandson had the ribs, and none of us got sick, but my wife did. She is at mission trail hospital right now getting looked at. I've never been to this establishment and our first time there wasn't too good. The restrooms were dirty and the staff hanging around the back where the restrooms were at didn't seem to care that customers were looking at a dirty back part of the restaurant. This place is supposed to be upscale and it was kind of expensive to be so underkept. I hope their can correct some of these things and start to care about the customers better. I feel a little cheated by this visit.

I have been to this location several times and get the chicken satay which is 4 large skewers of grilled chicken with a peanut dipping sauce and a cole slaw. My friend had sushi which he enjoyed as well as the half price wine they offer on Wednesday. The only issue we had was that we normally sit at the bar to eat and people watch at the mall but EVERYTIME we have been there, the wait staff corals at the end of the bar and have their private conversations which can be heard in that seating area. It appears to be the ‘hang out’ area for the wait staff and management as there have been at least 6 people just talking away and not picking up drinks or running food. I’m sure there are other things to do than hang out at the bar talking as customers need to be taken care of. They should have a break room or other place to share their gossip rather than on the service floor where everyone can hear their conversation. WAY to chatty when there are paying customers in the restaurant and yet the staff is looking for an 18-20% tip. They are under new management for the 2nd time and you would think they’d put their focus on the customers and stop the over abundance ‘chit-chat’ at the end of the bar. It doesn’t take 6 people to pick up one drink and management should set the example.

Had lunch here during a business meeting recently and sat outside on the patio on a nice Spring San Antonio day. I got a sushi roll and some soup and it was very good. I shared some calamari which was also very good with a nice cream sauce to dip. Service was excellent and fast. It is attached to the North Star Mall, but no mall distractions. Nice for lunch or dinner.

Arrived at the restaurant around 11:20 AM and the hostess was on the phone for quite a while and did not acknowledge me standing there. Ordered the chili lime shrimp salad. The shrimp were tough and the pieces of lettuce were two large to eat without cutting. It appeared that they made the salad in a bowl and turned it upside down as all of the vegetables and the shrimp we’re on the bottom of the plate with the letter sitting on top. For the price of the salad, I would not return.

They just changed things on their menu and also have really good prices on their menu. They offer reverse happy hour too.

Enjoyed a delightful family lunch at this restaurant last Sunday. Service was terrific, food was great. Prices were reasonable. I had a pear and chicken salad. My wife had the house club. Everything was prepared as hoped.

First visit to Kona Grill. My wife and I ordered shrimp tempura app and sushi sampler app. The shrimp tempura was frozen shrimp that was fried with a little batter submerged in a sweet sauce. They should not represent this dish as shrimp tempura, it is not tempura and not good. The sushi sampler had good sushi pieces. My only comment is the salad with the sushi didn't belong. I will stick with Sushihana when I want Japanese food in SA.

Kona grill is a place you can go on a date or meet your friends at for happy hour - They have a solid happy hour sushi menu. My wife and I stopped in for lunch today on a little “day date” and we were greeted with a smile and joyful banter as we were sat by the hostess. Our server was personable and answered my wife’s menu questions with knowledgeable efficiency. We were in a sushi mood and we got a 3 pack of rolls to share. We partook in the Philadelphia Roll, Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and Spicy Yellow Tail. Personally I’m not partial to the really “fishy” flavor and the yellow tail was pretty fishy to me, so it wasn’t my favorite. The Philadelphia roll was solid and the tuna roll was too. I forgot to ask for the low sodium soy sauce so my regular soy sauce was really salty. Overall a good selection of sushi but I’d avoid the yellow tail myself and try something else.

First time here. Was recommended by my 22 year old niece's friend. Definitely for the younger crowd. More of a bar atmosphere. food was ok, Not my favorite. Had the lettuce wraps, portions were small for the price. My nephew had the cerveiche, too small for the price. He ended up finishing 4 other peoples food.

While shopping at the La Cantera Mall, we ran across the Kona Grill. We stopped for Lunch and it was great. My wife and I both had different selections off of the menu and both were excellent. Our waiter was very pleasant as well.

It’s been a while so we thought we would go to an old reliable restaurant in La Cantera for lunch. Quickly seated and ordered drinks. They use to make great mojitos, so I ordered one and was quickly told they don’t make them any more????? So my wife and I had ice tea. Wife ordered the shrimp and chicken lettuce wraps...she loved them. I had the pad Thai noodles with chicken...it was delicious. Service was ok, but nothing special. Food didn’t disappoint, but no mojitos did. Good, reliable food in an outdoor mall.

Drinks burger sushi rolls & salad great. Surprisingly no wait. Seaweed salad was 3 bites though not worth the cost

So it's been a while since my last visit and my first time trying their sushi 🍣! First let me say why haven't I tried it before ? The Bama roll was outstanding the tuna tower was perfect and the peppered tuna roll was very good. Service was great restaurant clean friendly staff marking this place as a must for sushi

The place itself does not seemed or smelled very clean, maybe due to the carpets in the area were we were seated. I loved the sushi combo but the service was not good, took very long, the waiter was never around...

Good food; 1/2 price wine by the bottle on Wednesday; terrible service. Very noisy and filled with very small, very screaming children, and bar patrons for happy hour. Not worth the trip.

Very good food and drinks, great service. Menu has plenty of offerings. I like sushi, but my daughter dose not. We both left full and happy.

A family favorite. Variety of menu guarantees the entire family gets what they want, sushi, steaks, flatbreads. The sashimi grade fish is outstanding from the sushi bar. Highly recommend getting the edamame " Angry". It's great. I also cannot say enough about the flatbread. I'm a pizza fanatic and I can tell you this is top notch and at a fusion restaurant . Reasonable prices for high quality food all will enjoy

amazing time with me and my buddies gabbie was a great server. I would definitely recommend coming. they have an amazing happy hour

Well we decided to hit kona grill for some sushi... started the meal with some potstickers and some tuna sashimi followed by a tuna tower and some lemon garlic shrimp penne... we sat sharing our meal sipping on tea and talking giddily about the day, the whole dinning experience was very enjoyable indeed...

I came in with a group of friends and thank goodness I got bella as my server, she made the night 10 times better! Also the food and atmosphere was amazing!!!🤩

Enjoyed sushi (Kona Grill has some gluten free options for me!) and drinks at the outside patio. Great service and good food!

I love the food at kona grill, but when Kaylee serves me I love the service even more. I really enjoyed myself here with my family and I will definitely be back and ask for Kaylee as my waitress!

Worst service ever! Every time we come here, the waiters never check on us, the food takes forever, and the overall experience is just horrible. The staff seems uninterested and inattentive, and it feels like they completely ignore customers. On top of that, the food isn’t even worth the wait—cold, bland, and poorly prepared. It’s extremely disappointing how little effort is put into customer service. We’ve given this place multiple chances, but it’s clear they just don’t care. Definitely won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!

Wanted to go for something different than the usual, the staff is amazingly cheerful and very knowledgeable about what they're serving. I had the spinach and artichoke dip and the big kahuna hamburger, the burger was enormous I had to cut the burger in half to be able to eat it. Very good restaurant wouls go back if I was in the area again.

Service: The server we had was excellent. She never allowed me to have an empty glass of water. In Texas on hot days it is very important to stay hydrated! Bathrooms: Very clean, I like the art work inside the men's bathroom. Food: This was the most expensive place I took my family to while on vacation, $100 for a family of 4, however it was very delicious and was presented in an upscale fashion. The sushi was delicious and up to my standards. I also had the chicken broccoli stir fry that also tasted delicious.

Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Only negative is you can't get happy hour drink prices at your table and the bar is always packed.

My husband and I brought our niece here to celebrate her graduation from Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB. Shortly after we sat down, a lady came over to us and thanked our niece for serving (our niece was in uniform). We did not know who she was, but appreciated her verbalizing her thanks. We placed our orders, were treated very well by the server, and enjoyed our delicious meal. They happily accommodated my substitution and that made me extra happy. When it came time to pay our bill simply said, "On us. Thank you!" I suspect that the lady who came over was the manager, but we never found out, but we were very touched by their generosity and support. All that and the food was DELICIOUS.

Saturday night around 7pm no reservations, crowded but got a booth within minutes. Service was somewhat slow but apologetic and friendly. We had a variety of items- calamari starter(yummy), pulled pork sliders, chicken stir fry, tuna tower. All the food was prepared beautifully and delicious. Prices are reasonable. Nice vibe. Great location within LaCantera.

My son is stationed at Lackland AFB. While visiting he said we had to go to Kona Grill. He and friends go often. Restaurant was very nice, upscale appearance but felt comfortable in jeans and T shirt. I had an appetizer (pot stickers) as my meal and it was plenty. pepperoni flat bread is very tasty too! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Kona Grill is the right place to go if you are looking for a nice Happy Hour meal with your friends, loved ones or family. I personally find the prices off the Happy Hour kind of pricy, but during it one can pretty much eat and drink considerably and not spend more than $30.00 I just LOVE their sushi, and I highly recommend Crunchy Crab. The drinks are good. I have also tried some of their other Happy Hour foods, but the Japanese area is the best one.

I took my very picky mother to Kona Grill for lunch. She loved the ambience of the restaurant but wasn't sure that there would be anything that she liked on the menu. We both decided to get 2 items and split them. Our waiter Krayon was super and very patient. He accommodated my mother and I with great enthusiasm. The Pulled Pork Sliders are larger than most sliders…filled with a braised Kalua pork with BBQ sauce, asian slaw, chipotle mayo and not a speck of gristle or fat. These were served with LOTS sweet potato fries. The other entree was a Chicken Avocado Club sandwich filled with chicken breast, 3 slices of applewood bacon, avocado, chipotle mayo served on a ciabatta roll and cut in half. Taro chips were served with this entree. They were very unusual and very tasty. I asked Krayon about these chips and he explained to us how they are made from a taro root. My mother was loving them although I don't think that she could hear that they were made from a root and I didn't elaborate. : ) We were too full for desert but I asked Krayon what they were for next time. They have a brownie with ice cream, carrot cake, key lime pie and creme brûlée. Wish I had saved room! My mother and I both just loved the Kona Grill and look forward to going back.

LaCanterra probably isn't the first place that comes to mind when looking for sushi in San Antonio. In fact sushi probably isn't the first food that comes to mind in Texas!! Kona Grill has excellent sushi and consistently serves fresh sushi and sashimi every time. Yes, we go to the mall and eat sushi!! Don't knock it until you try it!!!

Kona Grill was a mixture of hits and misses. For example: the Bulgogi Taco had a nice spicy meat but the pastry was doughy, the Calamari was fresh but too pale in color and sauce lacked heat, the Spicy Tuna had a nice flavor but the texture was that of a mousse rather than sliced tuna. Overall it is a good place for families with kids but not for an intimate date. The place is too loud to carry a conversation. Service was very average.

The general ambiente is noisy and an informal touch. The fish is acceptable and portions are sizable. The service is very bad, the wine selection is limited and the food mediocre at best. The price isn't backed up by quality nor service. This place is "famous" for it's fish sandwich. We went for Asian cuisine and skipped the sad witch. The sashimi was mediocre in quality and quantity. The Pad Thai nearly had any chicken, the noodles did not feel home made and the sauce was one of the worst I've ever tried and I have travelled the world so I have experienced all types of cuisines in Asia, Europe and the Americas, and this has to be one of the most mediocre Pat Thai's I've ever tasted. Even a street vendor in Patpong Thailand, offers much better noodles. It is an overpriced restaurant not worth your visit, specially if you love high end cuisine as I do. There is a long waiting line but don't Fe fooled by it. Most go to the happy hour or half prized drinks. There a much better restaurants in La Canyera and surroundings.

we were A La Cantera to shop til we dropped.. & we dropped there, right at Happy Hour. The appetizer menu took 2 foodies to assess, and both of us were pleased with our choices.. actually, an amazing amount of food for this price. 2:1 drinks, check,& then 3 appetizer selections that were creative, well presented & quite tasty. Out of there by 7 pm when people starting packing the place... for less than $35 for 2 of us.. will go again.

KG is still a beehive of remodeling activity. Plastic still covers some walls, outside patio in formative stages, and several walls remain unpainted. The place is much brighter now such that you can actually see your menu without having to position it under one of the old spotlights over the tables. They do have a few new menu offerings, but one thing they haven't changed, thank goodness, is their burgers. That flame broiled taste is just spectacular to say nothing of its gargantuan size and fresh condiments. Perfect medium as requested, the Mauna Kea with its oh-so-light stuffing of jalapeños and pepper jack cheese and the Kona bacon and cheeseburger are a carnivores dream with 12 ozs of prime ground beef. My burger stood a full 5 inches tall which brought to mind a scene from a National Geographic episode involving a small hungry boa constrictor and an unattended, rather large shoat (baby pig). That first bite was an unhinging challenge but very rewarding. As others have said and as I will reiterate, one of the best burgers in town. You will want to take a picture (as I did) to make the experience last longer. Wonder if they have a hawaiian tatoo of a Kona Burger?!

Been to Kona several times for the seafood, which is better than most offering in the San Antonio area. This time we stopped in and ordered the Kona Burger. It was big enough to share, was prepared perfectly to order and was juicy and flavorful. This is the perfect place for a break while doing some shopping at the La Cantera mall. If it's a nice day, ask for a table outside.

Came in and had some happy hour. Taylor was super sweet in the front and super helpful. My server Joy was exceptional and the manager came by and was really nice and funny. I really liked the vibes here.

We were visiting our son at UTSA and ventured to La Cantera for dinner. Kona Grill had great selections and offered choices for all of us. Well prepared and quickly served. Definite thumbs up.

We had an excellent dinner here sitting outside while watching the fireworks coming from Fiesta Texas. The sushi was great and Kayla (our server) was very accommodating with our needs and requests. We will definitely eat here again on our next visit. Thank you Kona Grill!

I ordered sushi and believe me I have eaten at a lot of places and this was not freshly made, it was cold like it had been in the refrigerator, when you have a volcano roll and a shrimp tempura roll those are 2 fried items that make up the roll, they were very cold and almost tasteless, would not eat there again because of that.

We arrived to a very crowded restaurant, and realized everyone was there for Happy Hour - food was 1/2 price. We were shown to the restaurant and it was very quiet. We ordered sandwiches, and mine had an alioli dipping sauce that was wonderful...would go back just for that! Good food

Every single time we come we have a great time. Come early to avoid the happy hour crowd as they get a little noisy. Our favorite server is Alyssa, ask for her!
Nice weekend dinner
We took our sons, 13 and 16, for a Saturday dinner while staying at the Westin. We all enjoyed our meals and the calimari appetizer was a hit. Our server was effecient and friendly. We appreciated the nice wine list and interesting cocktails. We would definitely go back.
