This is my favorite sushi restaurant in San Antonio. North of loop 1604, in upscale Sonterra/ Stone Oak, not terribly convenient to those in the downtown tourist area. Very casual family dining, nicely appointed, contemporary décor. Reservations have never been necessary for my customary drop in dining at any hour, weekend or weekdays. Some turnover in wait staff, though usually attentive. The carafe of cold, clear sake is an excellent libation, at an excellent price point. Other branded sake ($$$) is available. Sushi rolls, sushi and sashimi are beautifully presented, and definitely delectably prepared. Salmon and tuna sashimi are melt in the mouth delicious; always fresh. Variety of rolls on the menu, with requests for variation never have been a problem. Reasonably priced for the excellent quality. Again, my favorite in San Antonio. Definitely recommend!! Enjoy!!

Overall a very good experience. The Ebi Kumori was tempura shrimp appetizer with 3 very good sauces. The Earth Roll was shrimp, avocado, cream cheese, fried rice with a spicy sauce, very good. The Chihuahua Roll was crab, cucumber, avocado, tuna, breaded with a sweet sauce. It was good but it seemed the breading was a little too much for me. Nice casual atmosphere.

Came for lunch on a monday. Immediately seated. cordial greeting by our delightful waitress, Daisy. Good run down on the menu items, Good variety. We both chose the lunch special, both served with very good miso soup. One choice was 3 piece sashimi and 8 piece roll (you get a couple of choices) and my companion chose two rolls. Either dish was $9.49. Sushi rolls are in the eye of the beholder so no need to pick one over the other. All the descriptions of the rolls seemed a bit Americanized to me with choices with cream cheese, imitation crab, etc. I lived in Tokyo and this is far from the authentic I have experienced there, in NYC or west coast, but fills the need at a reasonable price and good value.

My friend and I are Sushi Zushi fans but right now they are closed so we opted for Kumori. The service was very good, the soup brought at the beginning of the meal was cold and blah, but free. They have a nice variety of sushi rolls, the one I had was very good. We ordered hot tea, and the teapot was leaking. Cute place!

Great atmosphere and food. Delicious drinks and friendly service. Enjoyed the teppanyaki grill and the sushi, fresh and yummy. Definitely will be back when in the area.

My wife and i went to dinner at kumori, and we definitely enjoyed the service. The appetizer was spicy calamari which was delicious. Then we had four types of sushi, we were very impressed.

Kumori never disappoints when you are craving raw fish or rolls alike. Salmon sashimi always fresh and buttery, skinny roll, spicy hotate, hand rolls , paradise roll wrapped in cucumber. This place is great and a favorite of mine living in this area.

Off the beaten path, Kumori was a delightful experience. There were many options on the menu and included teppanyaki as an alternative to sushi. The spicy edamame were delicious with just enough heat. All 3 of our sushi rolls were fresh & hot and super tasty. The atmosphere was quiet enough to have a good conversation and our server was very attentive and professional.

We visited the Kumori in the Alamo Ranch Shopping Center, lets just say its a gem waiting to be discovered ! I read reviews on a Alamo Ranch News Feed and decided to give it a go. When we first walked we were all caught by surprise, I suppose we expected something less intriguing. The ambiance was great, the selection is plentiful, the sushi was delicious (I had the Godzilla Roll) and I cant wait to come back with friends and family. Service was great but only downside(lack of 5 star) was we were charged for someone else's bill and even though it was cancelled , its always a pain to deal with.

excellent service, wonderful drinks, service and ambiance. Went to this restaurant 3 times in 2 weeks. each time, such great service and meal suggestions.. try the "spicey edamame" for a fun twist.

This was my first time at this place and hands down it was so delicious. The place was packed and service was very slow (completely understandable) but yet the food tasted so fresh. What was supposed to be cold was cold and the hot was hot. Prices were well worth it. The portion was huge. All I had was Spicy Tuna Roll and was full. I couldn't even finish my plate. Now, I am not a sushi snob and actually tried sushi for the first time in all my 35 years in Feb but I have had bad sushi. This place wasn't one of them. Will definitely be returning and even taking my kids.

We have always enjoyed this place. The service is always perfect especially when Victoria waits on us. The Cucumber Martini's are the best. The sushi is great and they even have riceless sushi if you want. Make the trip, it's worth it.

There were so many options of sushi. Most have the sauces on the side so you can choose what type you like. There is a happy hour special for some of the options that make it a great price. Two people choose the noodle bowls. The was not a lot of beef in their bowl. The Mayo sauce was spicy and I wanted a sweet Mayo sauce. The teriyaki sauce was sweet. Waitress have good suggestions. There was almost to much to choose from.

Definitely recommend this place. We have been here several times and have never been disappointed, and finding good sushi in San Antonio is hard. This is also the only place where our son has actually liked sushi. If you like spicy, go for the Picasso Roll. Enjoy!!!

I used Door Dash for my food delivery when I am feeling lazy and this Sunday I was not in the mood to drive out. I saw this place and the menu looked enticing. They had poke bowls and sashimis which were my favorite so I placed my orders. The estimated delivery time was about approximately 45 minutes so I said okay. I did not have to leave town until 1:30pm so waiting for a wait until 12:45pm was fine. 30 minutes passed since I placed the order, the place has confirmed my order and then a driver was there to pick it up until he/she canceled because the orders were probably not finalized yet. Another driver picked it up and decided to chat with him/her and was told that there was an issue with their system and that with Door Dash. So long story short, that delivery driver also waited as I waited. The order was finally picked and delivered at around 1:11pm close to my initial planned time of departure. The order was placed and completed at 11:30am.

I went this february with my wife and friends and we have a great time there, the food was food as well the service.

Don't get me wrong, I love Sushi Zushi, but Kumori is just a little better for me. They are very similar in the type of rolls that they serve. I've only ever eaten sushi, so I can't comment on either restaurants other offerings. Kumori is slightly cheaper and they server complimentary miso soup. It is also kind of hidden and therefore not as busy, which is a plus for me. I hate feeling like I am sitting back-to-back with someone because Sushi Zushi tries to cram so many tables. I thought the staff was very friendly and very helpful when asked for suggestions. I really like spicey, so our server even brought us tray extra sauces to mix my own spicy dipping sauce.

We found this place by accident but will totally return. The restaurant serves you free Miso soup and dipping sauces. The Sunumo crab salad was very good as well as the combo mixed rice. My husband ordered a salad combo with 2 rolls, my daughter ordered the Godzilla roll, and I ordered the Fiji roll. All of the food was delicious, were great portion sizes, and served by attentive staff.

the food was great... sauces was very good. the beef was very flavorfull and tender. great atmosphere and clean. didnt go to the restroom. the booths are too low for the table. get a tabel when you go.

Interesting menu. Most rolls include cream cheese. Very different but tasty. I can understand why first time sushi eaters would like it. If you like the real stuff, stay away.

My daughter (8) and I went and it was very good. There are many choices, and the waiter made good recommendations. You can watch them make the sushi too if you want. The service was good. This is one of the two sushi restaurants I recommend in San Antonio.

We went for dinner one Sunday night. The service was pretty slow but it gave us a chance to look at the menu. The menu contained many delicious authentic Japanese dishes that we were excited to try. The Teppanyaki steak was dry and I would've preferred a soy-based sauce rather than the sesame sauce provided. The Seared Ahi appetizer was not very good either. Also the salmon sushi was not a good piece of fish and wasn't cut very well. Probably not going back.

Kumori is a great place to eat sushi. They have any type of roll that you can imagine. It's a little pricey, but for good food, you pay good money. It has a very relaxing, modern New York style atmosphere. The staff is courteous and friendly, and attentive. Restrooms are very clean and decorated nicely. You have to try the Atomic roll, Spicy Tuna roll, and of course the classic California roll; you will absolutely love them. Here is their website http://www.kumori-sushi.com/home.html. Phone number 210-853-2001. Hours are Sunday -Thursday 11:30 AM - 10:00 PM • Friday - Saturday 11:30 AM - 11:00 PM

Nice wine, friendly staff. I asked for a recommendation between two choices and was suggested the Stone Oak roll. It was really nice. I will go back next time I travel to San Antonio.

My friend took me to Kumori for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. The exterior doesn't seem much but the interior, though small, is first rate. I had chicken and vegetables and him sushi, and we both ordered egg-drop. The service was sharp, the food quite tasty and I rather enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick Japanese spot at the 1604/Culebra corridor!

This Review is for the Alamo Ranch location: 5519 W Loop 1604 N, Suite 1. Decided to visit this place on a Friday night and I'm glad we did. Everything was excellent the food and the service. I had the Mixed Teppanyaki which was cooked to perfection. The steak and chicken tender, shrimp succulent. The steamed veggies were perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed the Apollo roll. This is by far the best Japanese food I have had in San Antonio. Great job, great service and great food.

Have eaten here a couple of times. Both occasions have been good with no real complaints. The orders come out timely and the beer is cold. The tonkatsu did seem a little plain.

Although not visible to passers by, if you are willing to explore the new shops at Sonterra Plaza you will be pleasantly surprised. In the center of it all, you will feel like youve walked into a European bistro. Trescas outdoor seating is surrounded by colorful plants and flowers and on the weekend guests can enjoy live music in this center courtyard shared by Stone Oaks newest culinary gem, Tresca and Winestyles. My group met at the bar/lounge at tresca for a couple of cocktails and all were in agrement that we should dine outside. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the art is all local according to the bartender. We just couldnt pass up dining outside though, the weather was perfect and with the restaurant cradled in the center of the plaza you dont have the external traffic noise you get dining on the patio at other places. Thumbs up to the cucumber gimlet and after treating yourself to one of these take a moment to go over the wine menus. With so many in our group Trescas Caraffe Glass Splash Menu is perfect for sampling all types of wines available. The calamari friti was fantastic and the ceaser salad was fresh and crisp hearts of romaine, but if you dont like anchovi you better ask your server to hold the topping. My wife had the Veal and I tried the Chicken Mattone. Both were fantastic. In fact my only suggestion to the owners would be to add lighting to the outdoor seating, as it grew darker we had to sign our receipts by candle light. All in all Tresca will be an excellent addition to the Stone Oak area.

So this was a last minute quick spot for sushi we wanted so we came here. We had Chris who was our server/ bartender, he can improve on service just a little bit. We had the Reynosa roll , chicken teriyaki, Kumori special ( i didn’t like much it was fried too hard) , spicy salmon and galaxy roll. Rico the manager was extremely helpful and hospitable i will be back. One of my favorite things is they serve caipirinha which I’m super happy about. It’s great for groups and date night, they also have happy hour

Kumori is an unanticipated treasure, in a busy suburban shopping complex with many competing restaurants. I was especially impressed by the remarkably wide variety offered by its menu, including some fifty varieties of sushi. Service is excellent and the dining area is roomy, comfortable, and quiet enough for conversation. Surprisingly there is also a children's menu which features smaller servings of sushi. My eight year-old granddaughter ignored it, happily ordered from the adult menu, and then devoured a full-size serving. As a cheerful final note, Kumori's prices are very reasonable.

My last review of Kumori was basically a negative one, based on the terrible service we received. This time around the service was fantastic. Brandon Enrique was so friendly and professional. He recommended some great rolls and added some great conversation. Finally we get someone with some personality. You see it's all about service; you can have great food but if you have a bad service-experience, then the food just doesn't taste good. The Earth Roll, Jalapeño roll, recommended by Brandon, and my daughter's favorite the California Roll was perfect. The combination rice and the cucumber salad was scrumptious. Brandon made it a perfect afternoon for all of us. Thank you Brandon, we will ask for you next time we visit. Like I told you as we exited, Rock-on brother!!!

I got it to go for the staff. The food was good and the to go packaging was easy and convenient. They had it ready to go on time. Overall I would recommend them! D.

The restaurant went belly-up after a couple of weeks. Why open a place when you are not able to finance it at least for a year?

Service used to be better, the food is still consitant but took a while. There is still time to for this restaurant to take heed...get the service level where it needs to be or...SAYONARA.

Kumori is the first sushi restaurant that my friend would dare to eat, which is saying a lot. First impressions when you walk into the restaurant is that it is a big, open space. It has tall ceilings, not typical of the typical sushi restaurant, but a positive in this location, as it added to the sophistication and vibrance of this establishment. There was a separate drink bar area and a separate sushi bar area for those who want to watch the preparation of your meal. We ordered several rolls recommended by the waiter as the most poplar . They were fresh, well presented and tasty, with or without soy and wasabi. Kumori appears to be a good place for both business and a date. Some of the better sushi I have had in San Antonio.

Kumori has a menu with sushi and non-sushi items that will accommodate the tastes of anyone in the mood for Asian food. I highly recommend the Hawaii Role if you are in the mood for something on the sweeter side. The service is usually very good and the wait for fresh rolled sushi not super long.

My wife and I had an early dinner here one Saturday, as we have been wanting to try it since it opened. We were "greeted", (and I use that word VERY loosely!), by the most unfriendly and the most unwelcoming hostess that we have ever encountered. We watched her treat other patrons in the exact same manner, so we at least knew that it wasn't our cologne or hair style that turned her into the rude and disrespectful hostess that she was. Seriously? Since she was Asian, we assume that her daddy must own the place, since there is no other way that she was hired for that position, (unless she is the owner's mistress!). For our first impression, we were contemplating leaving when our sever Michael showed up with a 360-degree turn-around in attitude. He was very friendly and he took his time in explaining their menu and was very helpful with my wife in helping her decide between 2 choices. His service was topnotch the entire meal. The food was also very good and well-worth the prices charged. The atmosphere was very nice and the place was clean. Ironically, our decision on whether to return or not might hinge on whether we are willing to be treated rudely open arrival again. Only time will tell. We would definitely recommend the establishment, the service and the food!

Their sushi menu has countless options and the presentation is amazing! The sushi tastes so fresh and flavorful. Definitely coming back!

This place was very cozy to start. Service was great and the food was good too. I didn't give 5 stars because one of my sushi rolls sounded better than it tasted. Just wasn't a fan of their fried shrimp in the roll. Other than that, I would def come back.

This used to be our favorite sushi place. High praise considering we spent three years in Japan. Not sure what happened but our last visit was not the same. It was almost like the cook forgot the recipes for stuff I've been eating for years. Cucumber lemonade didn't have any lemon in it, just cucumber mush and sugar syrup. The hand grenade didn't have any shrimp on it. The Ebi spicy was supposed to have a good chunk of cream cheese on it but it looked more like they cleaned the knife of on a piece of tempora shrimp and called it good. The cucumber roll wasn't rolled and fell apart when I picked it up. The service was excellent and the place was clean but the food took a huge step backwards. It's like they just got lazy and stopped caring about the menu.

They have been open a month and are still in a learning curve. Food and service were good, but nothing outstanding. Will try again

It's 108 degrees outside, and this place has the AC turned down. Really? Is that how you treat your guests and employees? No menu provided to get an order to go, no concierge to take the order. I had to flag down a waiter before I got service. Better off going to the mall for your sushi cravings.

Love the sushi. We had the tuna tower, Hawaiian roll, Fuji roll, and another one I can't recall, but it was all sooo good. The freshness of everything was on point. My husband and I went with another couple. And we had a good time. Great service and good food! Must try.

Came here with a group of 12 on business. The service was very quick and the food was very good. You can not go wrong with the sushi. The portions are very big for the money. I could not finish my plate but it made for great leftovers.

The quality of sushi here is a little bit better than neighboring places, but the wait time varies quite a bit. We eat here often, and the food quality is always high, but the wait times are a little inconsistent.. Definitely recommended, but don't come here in a hurry.

With darkened windows, Kumori is located in a relatively obscure location in a large shopping center (next to Yum Thai). Passing by at dinnertime, we decided to pop in, expecting something pretty ordinary. I was immediately surprised by the lovely interior decoration and the privacy of our table. The waiter was not alway present, but did offer advice concerning the menu. He was wrong, actually, in that my riceless Golden roll came as six pieces, not the ten pieces of a normal role, as he had said. I dipped it in the different sauces on the table and was perfectly happy, although the quantity was meager. The seafood rolls were wrapped in an edible rice paper rather than white rice. We could see the items awaiting the servers on the sushi bar, which looked quite spectacular -- big long rolls with crumbles or sauces or other toppings. I was expecting this to be a one time visit, but I look forward to coming back and trying some of those other rolls. I wish there was a category of four and one-half stars, as this would be fully deserving.

We arrived at 12:45 and left at around 2. The time was well spent. Don't go if you are in a hurry. This is a slow-food place. The prepare the soba noodles by hand for each order. The miso soup I had was unlike anything I've ever had. Each ingredient had its own flavor. No making ahead of time and blending of flavors. The down side is that it takes so long to prepare that they are considering closing for lunch because they can't keep up. I hope they find a way to trim down the menu choices so they can stay open. I'd love to go there for lunch once a week.

This is a great little sushi place. The rolls are unique, the fish is fresh and the service is fast. I also like the atmosphere...a little upscale but not overpriced. I lived in Southern California for a number of years and recently moved to Texas. You can't beat the sushi on the west coast, but this is the best I've had in TX.

A group of 10 ladies decided to come here for dinner. This was the first visit here for most of us. We were able to make reservations, which was nice. The atmosphere was pleasant and we were able to enjoy happy hour while we browsed the menu. We ordered several different types of sushi and shared with each other. Very good overall. The only problem I had was that I cannot eat anything too spicy due to a health issue so ordered a noodle dish. Unfortunately they coat the noodles with chili powder, which I was not aware of prior to ordering so after one bite had to send it back. Overall it was a nice meal and will come again.

Service sucks, food often served cold. Okay pizza.Overpriced, like most in the area.

This was my first time to this establishment and I went because of the large bill board on 281; however, there are too many other good places. The miso soup was good ( get this free). We ordered a cucumber salad with shrimp and it was very good. I have worked in food service, so I may be more aware of food temps than others but the fish on the sushi was room temp. There were four sushi chefs leaning behind the counter and all the sliding doors were open on the sushi bar storage areas. The staff was not very friendly. Clean appearance in eating area and rest room. Just not a good overall feel.

Our waitress was all over the place, doing nothing. Our food sat on the bar for about 5 minutes before she finally brought it to us. The manager and the hostesses filled our water, not our waitress. Thank goodness for them. The manager gave us recommendations because our waitress wasn't around. We ordered what he recommended and it was amazing! We really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere was very welcoming and warm. The restaurant was very clean and well kept. I waitressed many years, and tend to be very understanding of the side duties and other things that could cause bad service, but our waitress was flat out bad. She would check her other tables more often than ours. She kept forgetting things for them and having to apologize. I guess she waved us off because I'm young and was there with my little brother. Whatever the case, she spent a lot of time with her head in the clouds not taking care of her tables. The rest of the staff saved her, because I would be willing to try this place again. But ,I would make sure to sit in someone else's section.

I've heard good things about this place abs experienced nothing to brag home to momma about. I had the gyoza abs fried spinach which would have been good except for the soy sauce concoction that have in the middle. My husband had a chicken lunch special that he made the "really nothing special face" at. My daughter had chicken nuggets and fried rice. Neither her nor I like the fried rice, but she said she like her nuggets. The waitress was neither good nor bad just there. She asked us if we had any questions Ave when I said uh formulating my question since I didn't understand the lunch menu she walked away...no biggie my hubby end up asking the sane thing, but then she didn't return for another 15 minutes. The place isn't that big seriously what took so long and I had a hungry 4 year old. Needless to say I doubt we return.

I liked this place. I liked it so much that I called them a week ahead of time and asked if they could make us some appetizers for 85 people for our 30 Year Wedding Anniversary. The first managers response was very negative... well, that will take extra work, we would have to order more food, etc. etc. we normally serve that many in a week, not a day! etc. - uh, ok. I was then told he would call me back Monday after talking to the head cook. No call. Second time I called, I spoke with a different manager as the one who was to call me Monday wasn't even working Monday. Figures. OK, I explained it all again to this manager and her tone was much, much better and she felt that they could do it and would call me back within an hour. I told her that since the party was in less than a week now, I really needed to know one way or the other. No problem and I'll call back within an hour was repeated three times. NOPE. Next day and still no call. HOW RUDE.

Great spin on some classics & great signature rolls. Must try the Paradise roll ... absolute best rice-less roll ever!

It is in Texas and not really Authentic Sushi place. but with huge modern sushi menu. Teppanyaki menu is a little pricy for what is in the plate. They have some kids menu, too. Fried rice was made with Butter...so it has butter taste.

I reviewed this place some time back and gave it a great review, but this time I have to call-out the servers. Our server acted like she was doing us a favor by waiting on us. She didn't smile, she was just matter-of-fact, it's bad enough that they're dressed in black, but come-on, smile a little and give a little effort on your customer's behalf. When she brought the check, she just walked away. We were still thirsty and our glasses were empty; the least she could've done is ask us if we wanted refills - service shouldn't end until the customer leaves the restaurant. Notice that I used "servers" in the first sentence, it's because we have had similar experiences in the recent past. Kumori your rolls are some of the best, but this customer is going to stay away and perhaps try you again in 6 months to see if things have changed.

I have been in the stone oak area for several years. If you wanted sushi before Kumori opened, it was Sushi Zushi or nothing. I grew rather fond of that restaurant. When Kumori opened up I was excited about the new option. I have gone 3 times. The first one, I promised I would never come back. Quick Note: The place is nice. Its rather small in comparison to its counterpart (Sushi Zushi). The clientele was a notch lower than in Sushi Zushi, perhaps because of the price difference, which in my opinion is not significant. Maybe $2 or $3 per roll difference. Wasn't completely sold. The first time: I ordered a sushi the waiter recommended which was terrible. It was sushi with melted cheese on top of it. I could tell they microwaved it. I wasn't able to finish it. I also ordered chicken and cheese kushiages (brochettes), and they brought me ketchup and called it "tomatto sauce"... I felt like I was at McDonalds eating nuggets. Service was sloppy. (A lot of reagan kids work part time here.) 2nd time: I went, it was better.. I decided to stick to the essentials or basics if you will. I had california rolls and Philadelphia rolls. They were alright, nothing out of this world. Price was good. Service was so-so. 3rd Time: I was dragged here by my girlfriend. We had essentials again (California and Philadelphia rolls). Nothing special. I'm sticking to Sushi Zushi.
Disappointed
We recently went to Kumori for lunch while shopping at Alamo Ranch. The atmosphere and the service were very good; however, the food had a lot to be desired. We had the Yokisoba and the Udon Noodles, the food was tasteless and overpriced. I don’t mind paying 50 dollars for lunch, if the food experience is worth the money; but, Kumori did not deliver for me. Please get a chef; I, most likely, will not be back!
