Lovely Seafood-based Mexican

By Mardel F |

Dined here for the first time the other night although members of my family had been here before. The service was attentive and the food was very good, well-prepared and generous. Salmon was perfectly cooked, although the shrimp was a little overdone. Pulpo was also excellent and the warm green salsa was mild but had a lovely complex flavor. The place was noisy however and it was difficult to hear. We were seated near a speaker for the sound system and once the volume had been turned down it was much nicer.

Excellent food. Must try.

By KNV_tamu |

We found the food to be very good and certainly well above the typical Tex-Mex in Dallas. The restaurant was extremely busy on a Friday night so the service was slow. If the weather is nice, I would suggest the terrace in the back of the restaurant. One personal annoyance however is that when I received my charge card statement, I noticed that they modified the amount I put on my charge card by 44 cents (they rounded up to nearest dollar). The change was monetarily insignificant but I found it to be personally annoying. Nonetheless, this restaurant is a must try. We ate both lunch and dinner there and both were outstanding

Excellent!

Recommended by family in town. This restaurant is hidden in a small shopping strip. Parking is limited (free) surrounding the restaurant. It was not a problem on a Saturday at 3pm. The restaurant is quite large and we were seated immediately. We were told we absolutely had to order the "cocteles". These are seafood (shrimp, octopus, mixed) cocktails. But they are served Mexican style. That is, a big glass with the selected seafood swimming in a spicy cocktail sauce with onions, avocado, and cilantro. I had the Campechana which included shrimp & oysters. All enjoyed with a spoon. Simply amazing. Delicious. Our table shared the nachos which are served authentically. Can be ordered 1/2 dozen or dozen. We had 1/2 chicken & fajitas steak. Each individual chip had refried beans, cheese and the meat on top. In the middle of the plate is a scoop of sour cream, guacamole, onions & sliced jalapeños. Delicioso!

Wonderful homely Tex-Mex restaurant worth revisiting

By OldGirlTravels |

I go here every year with friends who live locally and it's always one of the highlights of my visit to Dallas. The menu is varied, the food beautifully prepared and very generously served. For this Brit and one of the locals at my table, the beautifully fragrant and colourful American-sized paellas we ordered would each have been a good meal for two. The tacos, fajitas and flautas are always excellent. An unmissable Texas gem.

Defines "family friendly"

By Randy S |

Been here (the Oak Cliff one) many times and always amazed at the way the staff negotiates the restaurant, which is in a house that was redone but with all the rooms left intact. The staff practically dances among the tables and patrons. And they need to: they will bend over backward to accommodate your kids. Off menu, a cherry in that Sprite, no prob. I like the food here, a lot, especially the chicken enchiladas verde. Heads up, though, they are liberal with cilantro, which I love, but not everybody feels the same way. The ingredients are fresh so the salsas and salads and all have that extra flavor. As much as I love the chicken I have to remember that what these guys are really good at is seafood, starting with that fantastic fish soup. Nowadays I visit the reopened Lakewood site. Different layout and vibe, same great food and service.

Ok place to eat

By JCTXNJ |

We went there for the seafood, I had a soup that was not very hot and the taste was not fresh. Now the fajitas plate for two was good the meat had good taste also the sides. The service was great and quick.

Excellent

Pros: great atmosphere Reasonable lunch price Flavorable fajitas, chips & salsa and soup of the day! Cons: I wish they were located on the north side of Dallas! (how selfish of me!)

Not a Chain - Good Local, Family owned

By Dana W |

i have been coming to this restaurant for years. It is family owned, and the family works in the restaurant. It is NOT Tex Mex. lot's of grilled entrees, seafood...this is Mexican Cuisine. They started with a small bungalow, and over time have enlarged it to include porch, and back patio courtyard. There is a small banquet room at the very back. Meet your friends here for delicious food in one of the parlor rooms, have a margarita or a cold mexican beer and check out the wonderful shrimp, seafood, steak, chicken or pork dishes. (all good) i always try to order a dish with the grilled veggies on the side (not your mama's succotash)

they love to up-sale you on everything

By leticiamalone |

The food was average (El Ranchito is much better), but one thing for sure, they will up-sale you on everything ! They add the price to your meal EVEN if you don't order it. We ordered the fajitas, but did not order the cheese and sour cream (knowing it would cost an additional $1.50). When it came out, we told them we didn't order the cheese and sour cream, and they said it came with the meal. When we got our ticket, it was already added to our meal. We caught it and told them. It was finally removed. This was the third time we've been there and the third time they've done this to us. We will never go back !

Absolutely delicious

By Travel with the Pack |

Looking for good mexican seafood, I recommend coming here. Its not the cheapest place in the world, but your taste buds will thank you later. They have a wide range of dishes (some without seafood if you prefer just chicken) and each and every one of them delicious. I got the Fondue Can-cun which, I am not going to lie, is an artery clogging dish, but oh sooooo good. I tried every other dish at the table though and was not disappointed. There is seating inside and out. We sat on the front porch which wasn't too loud, but I would like to sit in the garden in the middle of the restaurant as that looked nice and quaint. I will definitely be coming back here.

Awesome authentic Mexican seafood, but neighborhood at night?

By RickTX28 |

I believe it was D magazine that listed this restaurant as a top favorite for their authentic, delicious Mexican food. I absolutely agree. It is great! However, I have only eaten here in the daytime, and I do recommend it. But, to be honest, I don't feel comfortabe about my security in this neighborhood at night. I must admit to a big error that I am very sorry for. I didn't realize there were two La Calle Doce locations. I wrote a review for the other location, thinking I was writing one for the 12th street location. The other location (Not 12th street) looks much safer for evening dining, just based on their location. Definitely come here in the day time. Try the other Dallas location at night.

Great Place!

First time eating there, and I was amazed with how we didn’t have to wait so long for our food! Plus, it was actually good! ALSO Our service was Great!! 🤗

Better than Tex-Mex!

By LTCB |

This is Mexico City style food with an Texas flair. My favorite item is the Nachos Especiales made with shredded beef and chicken (not ground beef). Eat the Salsa Verde with a spoon and take more home! The best service and top-shelf margaritas around. Practice speaking Spanish and fit in with the dining natives. This is our favorite in The Bishops Arts district.

Favorite neighborhood haunt

By texaschic987 |

Colleagues and I frequent La Calle Doce for lunch opportunities and for special occasions. The service is always great, and the food amazing! Not your run of the mill Mexican food, but a fresh approach in a great setting.

Specialty is mexican seafood. This is an all time favorite. They're good to the police, so there are usually serval in for their lunch/dinner breaks. I like that :)

Tex mex/seafood

By David T |

The shrimp enchiladas are my favorite and is served with a small bowl of fish soup which is excellent. The red snapper is also an excellent choice. I have not had any dish that I have not enjoyed!

An Oak Cliff Classic!

By Jihan777Dallas_TX |

The service, atmosphere, food and drinks are all pretty good. I have been here a dozen times and have notice that it's about a "2 or 3" for regular mexican food and a "4" for mexican seafood. I have been sticking to the camarones a la plancha, a dish of well-seasoned grilled shrimp, a yummy baked potato, and veggies. I just haven't found anything here that I consider to be wonderfull, except for the flan. I'm not a flan fan but when they brought that flan out for my girlfriends birthday I gave it a try. I was MAGNIFICENT! Like a soft and creamy, crust-less cheese cake!

This is a neighborhood gem that has expanded in to Lakewood. Great authentic Tex-Mex. The restaurant is actually in an old house - very quaint. I've gone here with large groups, clients and on dates

Awesome Oak Cliff find!

By laj2008 |

I've been going to this hidden gem for years and have never been disappointed! The service is spot on, the decor is clean and pretty and the food is wonderful. The family that owns it is from Vera Cruz, Mexico and they know seafood. My favorite dish is Plato Especial which serves 2 people. Beef & chicken fajitas, beef short ribs, sausage, w/ guacamole, rice & ranchero beans. The meats are served on a hot grill and it is always delicious. I really want to try more items but I always end up ordering this! My family calls it "the mound of meat" and it truly is! Their tortillas and hot sauce are perfection and everything is freshly home made.

Love it!

By Daisy M |

I eat here once a month. A the food is absolutely amazing. They will never disappoint. It is mainly seafood.

Decades old Mexican Restaurant, and for good reason.

By Jim D |

La Calle Doce has been a fixture in Oak Cliff for decades. The excellent, consistent service, food and atmosphere are big reasons. As a result, they enjoy a loyal customer base who consider this to be the best Mexican food in Oak Cliff, if not Dallas. Great for couples, families, large groups, business, etc. Ample off-street parking as well. Prices are reasonable. Repeat, repeat, repeat customer.

AWESOME!

By denoo |

i loveeeeee la calle doce!!! the food is great .. the service is excellent HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Terribly Tasty

By Pokeymandog |

What a charming place! Presentations were lovely. My tortilla soup and shrimp cocktail were both perfect. The cocktail sauce was thin enough to drink after eating the shrimp and avocado pieces. The salsas were both spicy and delicious. My husband’s fish and veggies made him happy!

A lovely surprise!

By Alice D |

Had heard of this restaurant but had not been. Finally went and it was awesome! The decor is so wonderful! We sat in one of the front rooms with the blue and white wallpaper theme and I LOVED IT! So special for a great Sunday afternoon lunch with my husband. The service was perfect! The menu selections were extensive. Many great choices. I had a shrimp dish that was so pretty and tasty. It does get crowded quickly, so for over 6 in your group make a reservation. The portions are large and great for sharing or taking home for leftovers.

Excellent!!

Good food and excellent service!!

Exceptional dining experience

By Jerald M |

My wife and I enjoyed a late supper at La Calle Doce 4 nights ago, having not dined there in years. We were immediately seated, warmly greeted, and prepared for wonderful experience. The service was "over the top" which added to the entire experience. The cerviche, marisco soup, salmon dishes were phenomenal, but the flan, which we really did not have room for, was exceptional. Fresh seafood with a Mexican flare- highly worth the visit!!

Shrimp Diablo

By scout747 |

We really loved the atmosphere. Shrimp Diablo with chipotle was awesome. Definitely would recommend.

After All These Years, this Mexican Seafood Restaurant is Holding A Stedfast Place in Big D!

By John H |

One of the first Mexican restaurants in Dallas to offer quality Mexican seafood along with a delicious homemade Tex-Mex menu. Opened in 1981 by the Sanchez family using an older renovated house in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. In an earlier era, Oak Cliff was was one of the most wealthy areas of town, & it still has some of the most beautiful mansions in Dallas. However, Big D development was primed to move north, & Oak Cliff gradually lost status & public funding. Nevertheless, the Sanchez family made a great decision to invest their culinary skills & money in the opening of this restaurant @ a time when urban renewal was still on the drawing board in Big D! This original site is a very cozy home style environment with beautiful window seating & wooden floors. Suggest that you ask for seating in the original house unless it is a perfect evening for outdoor patio seating, which is a comfortable add-on to the house. The restaurant has expanded over time to also include an indoor garden patio next to the bar in the rear section of the house. The changes in the setting have only made a great place even better! The menu is full of spot-on items ranging from mouthwatering seafood to the traditional Tex-Mex homemade enchiladas with a variety of sides. For appetizers, we usually order the large guacamole salad, large shrimp cocktail, & add a shot of vodka to the cocktail mix. The shrimp cocktail comes in an old-style large-mouthed beer glass that includes a delicious spice sauce that blends well with the vodka, just enough kick to really get the taste buds going! You will wind up spooning the sauce along with the shrimp, which is served on the rim of the glass. Then, all the entrees are great, & you cannot make a bad choice. I love the breaded skillet-fried full body catfish with homemade tarter sauce. Very good choice if you are an old "catfish-by-the river" guy! The margarita is fantastic & can be made to order by degree of strength & type of tequila that you prefer, & it can be very strong! Have a designated driver or Uber for the evening. You can make a fun evening eating here, especially on rainy days. Plenty of parking.

Check your receipt!

By LITTLESTHOBOUK_10 |

Went with Wife and her friend. Firstly we ordered HAPPY HOUR Margaritas, mine normal, our friend requested a "skinny" margarita. At the end when we received our bill, my normal margarita was $3, our friends skinny, was $8.95...apparently a skinny doesn't qualify for happy hour...WTF?? Secondly, I ordered the Ceviche as a main, was recommended by the waitress to have the Ceviche Salad, for the same price. Normal Ceviche is $13.95, my Ceviche salad cost $14.95!! Anyway, due underhanded practice, we only gave a 10% tip! Food was mediocre to say the least.

Always really good.

By rherb |

Its a very good restaurant. Parking could be better. The seating is ok but it gets thick on evenings and weekends. However this place is tried and true consistently pleases.

Worth the visit

By TxTen4 |

A staple of oak cliff. A little on the pricey side but I've never had a bad meal or experience here. Great atmosphere and the staff is always quick to take care of your needs and keep your glass full.

Outstanding Mexican Food in Old Home Setting

By John H |

This restaurant continues to serve high quality Mexican food in a pleasant "old house" setting that has expanded over the years to include well-managed covered patio seating that is very enjoyable on rainy or cooler days in the Dallas climate. Watching street traffic from the patio on comfortable weather days adds interest to your meal. The old house remains the original site, & inside seating is recommended for both family & intimate occasions. Drinks are made to order in terms of strength as per request. Recommend guacamole salad, & then huge order of shrimp cocktail with vodka shot added to already well-spiced sauce. If you remain hungry after that last order, try the whole fried catfish plate! Simply fantastic. Other seafood dishes are equally tasty. Service & prices good. Parking best @ early evening, but also available across the street, no charge.

Excellent service and food

By Willie R |

Went on Thursday night. My girlfriend had a sopa de mariscos which is a seafood soup with shrimp, mussels, octopus and it was very good. I had caldo De Cameron which is shrimp soup I asked for extra shrimp and they charge extra which is no biggie. Everything was great even the young lady serving us. Would definitely keep coming here.

Not the usual Mexican food

By gunnercade |

I am sure you can find tacos and enchiladas here, and that they are excellent, but we came to this place because we have read about the seafood dishes and we were not disappointed. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. I had the garlicky shrimp with grilled vegetables, accompanied by a baked potato loaded with sour cream that was a little out of place (I guess customers like it), and my husband had the snapper Veracruz. Both dishes came with a light cod soup. We also shared a margarita and I had the flan for dessert-probably the best Mexican flan I have ever had. The check was a bit high, but we splurged on seafood, drinks and dessert, so no surprise there. Everything was delicious. Service was flawless and friendly. Super-friendly: our server run after us because we had forgotten my sweater and a bottle that we had asked to be filled with water for the long drive ahead of us. To sum up: we heartily recommend this place (the porch is lovely, which does not hurt) and we will be back next time we drive to Dallas.

Excellent Mexican

By Al J |

One of the more authentic Mexican restaurants in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, Calle Doce is situated in a little house in an ethnic area of South Dallas...excellent service, excellent food, take your time when you come here...any of the shrimp dishes are great!

A MUST in Dallas

By deltaDallas |

This is such nice change to your typical on ever corner Tex Mex joints. The old home with all the different rooms make you feel comfortable while dining. The fish soup was the best ever! I crave it now. I also think the fish tacos were the best I've ever had! The location is perfect before exploring downtown or Bishop Arts area! Don't miss this family owned gem!

Good Mexican Seafood

By ZeemomX3 |

Went for lunch with several friends and had some very good food. It is unusual to find a Mexican place that has a lot of seafood, so this was a nice change. They do have a nice assortment of the usual suspects for landlubbers, but I tried the shrimp tacos and they were very good. Deep fried shrimp and avocado with an outstanding, super flavorful chipotle sauce. My dish came with soup, which was fish stew. Delicious! A wonderful fish stock with pieces of white fish and potatoes. Loved it. It’s not inexpensive, but good fish well prepared usually isn’t cheap. It’s in a funky old house with lots of different rooms, and an excellent wait staff.

Love this place! Enjoy the margaritas our server was Alberto! Excellent place to wind down! This is Mexican fish Restruant so of course you want to try their shrimp cocktails!!! Fajitas and enchiladas are real good!

Tasty

By Diane L |

Very large portions and reasonably priced. I was excited because they had chili rellanos and a lot don't. Beware of salsa! So hot I could not eat and my husband who likes it h ot could not tolerate this one. Wish these places would serve hot and mild for those who can't take the heat.

Good Food

By wahidstx |

It was a pleasant evening at La Calle Doce. As it goes this is one of the famous restaurant in South Dallas restaurant map and it is indeed one. Food quality and Staff were great. It had the casual ambiance where everyone is carrying out their conversation and having a good time. If you want a bit quieter environment this isn't it. I'd visit again to try out other items that I got to know about through word of mouth. Keep it up La Calle Doce.

Really enjoyed visiting this restaurant

By EvelynR340 |

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the servers were excellent, the strolling guitar players were great and there ceviche and margaritas were fabulous. I will return.

Nice Place

By Mark H |

We went here with a group of about 20 people for a team dinner. We all paid separate and it was not a big deal. The food was excellent! Service was outstanding. I would go there again when I am back in Dallas. Food is mainly Seafood but with a spanish slant.

Mexican Seafood at its best

By J W |

Never had Mexican Seafood before so I had to try it out and it was awesome. I had blackened Tilapia that came with grilled veggies and some rice that was delicious. I was given salsa~n~chips and tried fish soup that to my surprise was very good.

Great Oak Cliff Experience

By Mindy M |

I have been coming to LaCalle Doce for many years and have fond mesmerizes of many dinners with friends on the porch or in the garden. Some favorite selections are the shrimp cocktails, various enchiladas, fillet of sole, and the flan. This is a great place to take guests to the neighborhood or just have a lovely dinner with friends. It never disappoints.

Great Mexican Seafood

By Marcia G |

This is an out of the ordinary Mexican restaurant because it specializes in seafood. Fish soups and several recipes of shrimp are wonderful. Great service.

My wife and I frequent this place when we are in town. Tried 2 dishes for the first time. Unimpressed would be a positive spin on the dish.

Great Mexican food

By planejla |

The food and service is outstanding. You really can't go wrong with anything you order. They have a nice patio and a great bar too. They have very casual atmosphere. Usually there is a trio playing music at the tables. There is usually a wait for big parties so would recommended calling ahead for a reservation.

Always good and always consistent

By Donald W |

We really enjoy eating in this restaurant. They have a lot of Spanish seafood dished, seems to be really popular. We had the large shrimp cocktail (the Spanish version) This dish has some fire, if you cannot eat hot be careful. We enjoy their nachos as well as many other dishes. The service is first rate.

Can't Understand What All The Hype Is About....

By missmiata99 |

This place was highly recommended by several of our friends and the reviews were very, very good and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. This is Mexican/Seafood place and they are suppose to have fantastic shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was overcooked and chewy. It was not deveined or butterflied and, it came in a drink glass with pieces of avocado. I can pick out my avocado but, eating shrimp that hasn't been cleaned is just gross. The black bean and corn relish was made with frozen corn - it tasted very watery and mushy. The shrimp tacos were quite tasty but it was about 60% breading and 40% shrimp. The margarita's had to much sweet and sour mix. The tables are small and were completely covered with dishes the entire meal. We had 4 adults in our party and seat at a table for 4. I would suggest a party of 4 sit at a table for 8 and a couple sit at a table for 4 to allow room for plates, glasses, etc. Our water glass was neglected almost the entire meal; we had to ask for refills each time.

Used to love this place every time we visit Dallas we look forward to come eat at this place but after the service today I might not comeback. food took forever for 5 plates they brought one right away and the other 4 were brought at least 30 minutes later so I ate before everyone else in my family

Dinner at La Calle Doce

By E6845LSjerrys |

La Calle Doce is our favorite Tex-Mex Restaurant. We especially like the fajitas and fish soup. They are the primary reason we frequent the restaurant. Not only is the food excellent, the service is as well. I highly recommend La Calle Doce.

You would never expect to get the great service and quality food in a restaurant in Oak Cliff. These guys have been around forever and they are an icon in OC.

Mexican Gulf Coast Food in Dallas

By docntx |

No bad dish, it is a particular slant that reminds one of the food from Veracruz. On weekends, the Paella is good, a large serving with a strong saffron touch. Flan is excellent. Not really fond of the Ceviche, seems bitter.

Monday Night Dinner

By Will H |

A great friend from Australia came in to visit us and my other great friend suggested this place so me and my husband readily agreed! I was first one there for our party of 9 and I had my happy hour margarita which was the bomb! We all ordered our food, mine being steak fajitas which were so good! It was a night of good food, great atmosphere and great drinks! Definitely would love to come back here! And they even had live music..... too cool!

Wonderful Aguachile and Lunch Seafood, Great Service, Nice Atmosphere in a Converted Home

By Paul K |

I visited La Calle Doce (“12th Street” is the translation) on a Friday for lunch with my wife and a cousin. My wife and I got there early, and although I saw a sign saying only complete parties will be seated, the two of us were seated as the hostess said they weren’t swamped. We got a booth in a bright room toward the back that had a trellis-like structure overhead with hanging lamps, and a view of outside vegetation. The booth could handle six people, but when my cousin showed up there were just three of us. My wife ordered the shrimp aguachile appetizer, which is shrimp cooked in lime juice with cucumber/jicama slaw (a cold dish). I also ordered half a dozen oysters on the half shell (they come with the house cocktail sauce, but not horseradish, which I prefer). A lunch special was a fish sandwich with soup and I ordered it – the soup turned out to be a fish stew that had a great flavor. My wife ordered the marinated, grilled shrimp entrée (Camaron a la Plancha), which also included the soup, and said it was delicious. By the time I ate my fish sandwich – half of it would have been enough but I ate the whole thing – I didn’t need to eat the fries that came with it, and I tried the aguachile appetizer, too. My cousin got a combination plate and she said it was very tasty as well. We all had tea to drink. Our waitress did a great job of checking in on us to make sure our teas were filled and empty plates were taken away. With such a wide variety of seafood on the menu, I’d love to come back to try the many other seafood dishes this restaurant offers!

Yes! Finally!

By Jesse B |

I've since been here several times and each time try something different and to my surprise it's consistent, well crafted, purposeful and delicious. From seafood to typical Mexican fare this place knows what they're doing. Great atmosphere and service. Always a great meal.

Don’t eat here. Rudely treated by receptionist and no gluten free as advertised

By C M |

They claim to have gluten free options online but are not prepared to deliver. After being treated horribly up front by the receptionist who said 3 times they had no gluten free options the owner did try to produce a salad - without tasty meat, cheese or chips. I have lettuce at home. Don’t trust their advertising!

Sad That I’ve Missed This For So Long

By PSC76063 |

Friends took us for Sunday lunch and we were blown away. The ambiance of this old house was super (next time I will ask to be seated in the garden room although all were lovely), the servings were generous, and the food presentations were fun and unusual (our friend’s food was presented on a hibachi grill). Our server was so pleasant and acted as though she enjoyed taking care of us. We will definitely be going again soon!

Excellent Restaurant in Oak Cliff

By Phil |

We ate here on Friday night out before a concert. I was very impressed. Despite the restaurant being busy, we did not wait long for a table and our service was excellent. I started with a delicious mango margarita. Everyone else in our party had guava margaritas, which were even better than the mango! For an appetizer we had the Fondue Cancun. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it - I normally don't care for baby clams or scallops. For my dinner I had a shrimp cocktail that I thoroughly enjoyed. My husband had a Plato Combinacion - a fried catfish fillet, fried shrimp, and fries. I sampled the the shrimp and fries; they were very tasty.

Disappointed about my cat fish lunch

By Connie W |

I was so excited to take my daughter and grandson to Calle Doce, a place I have been with friends and family. Today has been a very bad day. My fish was over cooked almost black. Not juicy and fresh as I have had it before. It has always been GOLDEN FRIED DELICIOUS, I can just eat it with my fingers. My French fries old and dry. I had to ask for HOT ones. Not happy at all. Going back? I will have to think about it, really hard. !!!

Quick service, good margaritas, and tasty Central American food

By tigereyes1 |

While La Calle Doce has traditional Tex-Mex food; they also have a serious menu of various types of Central American Seafood offerings. The three of us went to dinner where we started with Margaritas and they were tasty. The wait staff had some trouble getting that order correct but then it was smooth sailing. One person had chili rellenos with a ranchero sauce on half and a queso sauce on the other. Another had a snapper filet covered with sauteed veggies. I had the spinach enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. They were very tasty. None of us ate our rice and beans because the entree portions were large and the restaurant served a tasty fish soup to start.

Amazing Mexican Seafood and more

By EzraSeven |

Amazing. Love this place. Plato Especial was perfect. Enough for two. An old house made anew. Parking is a stinker but worth it. When family is in town, this is where we are going from now on. Great service, attention to detail. Amazing.

Oak Cliff Treasure

By tphybridtx |

La Calle Doce is one of the more authentic Tex-Mex locations in the entire DFW area. They specialize in seafood (mariscos), but their entire menu is consistently first-rate. For a big party, I would suggest two or three of the Plato Especial. It is a fajita family-style meal with fajita chicken and beef, sausage and beef short ribs. It comes on a small skillet with a flame beneath keeping it warm. It’s a great presentation for the kids and those looking for a unique Tex-Mex experience. For an appetizer, try the Sopa Pescado (fish soup). It is light and delicious. Come during the day on the weekend and you can check out their delicious brunch men. The Juevos Rancheros and Mexican Omelette are my personal favorites. La Calle Doce is located in a house in the heart of Oak Cliff. It is an dining experience you will not soon forget. Their lunch menu is reasonable and the service/staff always provide excellent service. I try to come here at least once a month. One final note; during the evening meal they do have mariachis. If they play for you, be prepared to pay.

Great food

By ArlingtonChristian |

Excellent service, delicious food (but very pricey), fun atmosphere with the guitar players (weren’t dressed like mariachis) but they were awesome singers. Overall great experience ❤️👍

Not good Mexican

By Pedro S |

After a day of shopping and being out with the family we decided to visit La Calle Doce in Dallas after a couple years of having a good experience. I had the Sopa de Pescado as a starter that was the worst fish soup I have ever had as a starter. I ordered the Huachinango al Mojo de Ajo which is a snapper Sautéed in garlic butter and all I could taste was the residue if butter. My wife ordered the Pechuga al Carbon that was dry and tasteless and my son ordered the chicken flautas which had no flavor, This restaurant has received great reviews by people who are well miss-informed of good Mexican Food which boggles my mind. DFW has some great Mexican restaurants but unfortunately Calle Doce is not one of them. Good Mexican food is what I know. Service was poor as I waited for over 20 minutes for drink refills.Although on a Saturday Night we were seated promptly it took over 15 minutes to get a drink order. I saw my waitress once after my food was received and drink refills were nonexistent until I received my check and had to ask for a refill. Good Chips and Salsa are a must at any Mexican restaurant. The salsas were bland with no flavor. Sadly I would choose chain restaurants such as Abuelos or Chuy's over this place. Calle Doce has been a staple for places to eat eat in Dallas for years. Honestly I do not know how they have survived with such horrible food an service. I will definitely not be going back. There are too many other great Mexican restaurants in the DFW area to enjoy for the money.

Huge and wonderful Blackened Tilapia

By SRobinson2 |

We had visited for a business lunch, and the menu had so many great options for all kinds of tastes-seafood, brisket, fajita chicken...etc. The Cod Stew that came with my meal was good. The venue itself was a cute home with cozy seating and views. I would recommend this place for all sorts of occasions.

love, love, love this place

I make it a point to stop here every time I'm in dallas. I usually come just for their ceviche. It's a nice change from regular tex-mex, since they serve mostly seafood. Their food in general is good, and the service is usually good. They get busy early, but seem to handle the crowds well. Not super kid friendly, just because it's a small space, and high chairs feel in the way. With that said, I still take kids with me and they are treated well by the staff.

Fresh and authentic

By Chuckus1 |

This is the best ceviche in town. Also great tex mex and authentic mexican seafood dishes. You can't really go wrong with anything here. Never had a dish I didn't like and I've been coming to both locations for years.

Love it

By lhockman |

This was my first visit, but won't be the last. I always start off with staples at a new place, to see how it compares. The hubs got fajitas and had some exciting flavor explosions in his mouth! He also loved the tortillas. I got the three fish taco plate and liked all three, with the salmon being my favorite. I never would have thought to have a salmon fish taco, but now I'm sold. I thought my margarita was too sweet, but with beers on tap I'll make a better decision in the future. The service was great, the atmosphere was charming, do yourself a favor and head to la Calle doce!

Good Mexican Seafood

By ChopperBenny |

One of the better mexican places in Dallas. Great Old House and outdoors. Food is unique based on seafood with a mexican influence. Great Seafood Fondue Appetisor. Fun place. Wish that they would not allow kids to run & play outside. Can't wait to go back

The Worst

By tahass |

I'm been visiting La Calle Dolce for 20 years and have always enjoyed it. I stopped the other day for lunch and was so disappointed. I had the sea food chile relleno and couldn't even eat it. I asked for ranchero, however, it can coveted in queso. The center wasn't even hot, nor were the vegetables it was served with. This was the worst meal I've ever had there.

No onions, please!

By BamaRae |

Incredible, authentic Mexican seafood restaurant. Order the oyster cocktail! Superb. My husband had the paella and was very satisfied. Enough food for two with that entree, easily. I had the butter garlic shrimp and it was mouthwatering. Nothing disappoints there except the amount of raw onions on most things! Ask them to hold the raw onions, unless you are a fan. I hate onions and still gave this place a 5 and will visit again when in the area. That's how good it is.

Claire turned us on to this one. Wow. Cannot wait to come back on a warm night and hang out on the porch.

Excellent Food

I highly recommend this place. Any time I am in the area, I make a point to swing by. Everything on their menu we have tried has been great. I recommend trying their Calamari and the queso Azteca. The draft beer is cold and fresh also!

One of Our Go-To Favorites

By Houston I |

The original and best. We go to this restaurant all the time and I should have done a review sooner. You really can not go wrong with anything you order The seafood is really fresh and the portions are extremely generous. Hint: DON'T order the paella unless you are ordering for two; even then, you will be taking home a lot of extremely delicious food. I know this is going to sound odd to some but the Caldo de Pescado is one of my favorite dishes here. It is a cod and potato stew but its brilliance lay in its simplicity. You can taste the fish, you can taste the potatoes, you can taste the seafood stock... Phenomenal. As an added bonus, a lot of entrées come with a cup of this magical stuff. Ha HA! The drinks.... beware, they are potent and will creep-up on you! The atmosphere is quite awesome as well. It is a renovated house, kinda like the original Gloria's on Davis, but far larger. Go, you truly won't regret this place.

Family dinner

By Peru2017 |

Great Variety

Went with my wife, daughter, teenage granddaughter, and 18 month old granddaughter. Ordered Azteca Queso appetizer, sour cream enchiladas, ceviche, guiso and fajitas. Service was great and all meals were delicious. Musicians sang to the baby.

Fantastic food!

By LVSquared |

We arrived a few minutes before noon for lunch and it was already packed. The service was excellent, food was delicious and atmosphere was comfortable. If you are looking for a restaurant that has it all, come here! A little pricey, but try the lunch specials for a wallet friendly choice.

Great service and authentic atmosphere!

By Abigail S |

I have an amazing time at this restaurant. My family and I gathered here for a special occasion, and the atmosphere was perfect for the occasion. When we informed our waiter that it was my cousin's birthday, they surprised us with a live performance of the Happy Birthday song. The experience was fantastic and the food was incredibly delicious. I especially appreciated the authenticity of the restaurant and would love to visit again.

Always good

We brought my wife's 91 yo mother to La Calle Doce Oak Cliff for lunch. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The building was handicap accessible. The food was excellent as always. This is one of our favorite stops whenever we visit Dallas. We do highly recommend it.

Mexican Seafood with great atmosphere

By edgar z |

We stopped by here for lunch on a Sunday and we sure did not want to leave! We had a variety of plates from the Shrimp Cocktail to a Salmon plate with green/red peppers on it that were great. It's definitely a great place to stop by and eat till you're content!

Great place!

The fish soup here is delicious! Also, love the charm of this place.

Serving sizes for giants

By Rafael D |

We were here for an early father's day celebration. There wasn't a wait, which we were excited about. And we got to sit on the rather spacious patio, which was also nice. Our waiter Daniel was exceptional. He brought our food quick and was perfectly attentive. Now to the food: we sampled a little of everything and we were very pleased. The queso was tasty as were the quesadillas; definitely love the way they marinate steak. The portions were huge, especially the salads. Our suggestion: get a salad, it's an experience. You can thank me later. That was by far our favorite dish.

Nice change of pace

By J Person |

I took my parents, who were in from out of town, and always interested to try new places. The CD takes reservations, very nice, and I love the rustic feel of the old house in which the restaurant is located. There are several different rooms, with different atmosphere. The front room is more a traditional space, while the central room abuts the bar and the large screen TV's. The food is solidly good. The chips come warm, with a red salsa and a green tomatillo sauce, both a bit spicy. The queso is nothing fancy, but good. If you like ceviches, this is a good place, as it specializes in them. I have sampled several different styles, and they are all tasty. Their strength is seafood. One daughter had the Camarón a la Plancha (grilled shrimp, served on a bed of lettuce with rice and vegetables, a nice sized portion, and nice seasoning on the shrimp). I split the parrillada de mariscos for two, served with tortillas (corn or flour), guac, pico de gallo and beans and rice. The portion of fish, shrimp and calamari served on a portable grill, was enormous. I also have had and enjoyed the rellenos and the fish tacos (all versions). And, all entrees come with a cup of the cod stew, which is also flavorful. There are desserts, but I am always too full to eat them. We love bringing out of town guests here for something a little different. For history buffs, you can also see the Lee Harvey Oswald boarding house a few streets away. . .

The Original

By art m |

if seafood is your thing then you must visit La Calle Doce this place is one of the best seafood restaurants i have visited in dallas the caldo te pescado (fish soup) will get you going after a long night also the mariscos cocktail is the bomb and dont forget to order a michelada

Que Bueno!

By Michael C |

This is the original Calle Doce and it's no wonder that it's survived for so long. The food is fresh, well presented and reasonably priced. Wait staff is attentive but not pushy. The porch is spacious and can be enclosed for chilly weather. The shrimp appetizer (in a goblet with onions, avocado and tomato) can't miss. The deluxe nachos are outstanding. The place features Mexican seafood and pretty much all of it is top flight. The reason for all the praise is Calle Doce has maintained its culinary credibility over the years while still coming up with interesting dishes that don't bore you. The atmosphere is very comfortable and, one of the biggest pluses...it's quiet enough so you can carry on a conversation. You can't say that about many restaurants in Dallas or Oak Cliff. You will not be disappointed. Try it, you'll like it.

La Calle Don't

By MrsValtheimpaler |

The table we were seated at was dirty, the shrimp had not been deveined, the paella was an insult to Spain and we had to flag down our waiter for everything. Everything was awful from the service to the food. I don't understand how this place received any positive reviews. I could have overlooked the service had the food been good, but it was truly revolting. Avoid at all costs.

Enjoyed it

By Nguyen P |

The food here is delicious. It was my first time eating the fish tacos and surprisingly they were good. They are very friendly and helpful when it comes to deciding on what to eat. Its one of the best seafood places in oak cliff with different environment than regular Mexican seafood places.

Great Venue, Great Food, Great Service

My host took us out of towners here and we enjoyed the great food and atmosphere over drinks and conversation. Extensive menu, hearty portions, no complaints. Very happy

Best Mexican Food Ever

By JoyfulEddy |

The service here is unbelievably great. The food was so delicious, fresh and authentic Mexican as well as the Vera Cruz seafood experience. The shrimp cocktail and guacamole were so fresh and chilled just right. The margaritas are really good, be sure and try one. One of us got the shrimp wrapped around crab meat. The fresh made tortillas and salsa were delicious. This location is in a quaint house with porches and divided dining rooms. Really enjoyable and a traveling musician as well. It was a delightful experience.

Great food!

OOH La Calle Doce

An absolute pleasure to dine here! The food is deliciously superb and fresh. The staff is outstanding and extremely customer service friendly. I highly recommend this seafood/texmex restaurant.

Good Mexican food in Dallas

By FyrCapt |

So, while visiting Dallas on business, my associate suggested Mexican food for lunch. I don't mind Mexican food, but it's usually not something that I seek out. Cafe' Doce' changed my view. It's a quaint, inviting setting with indoor and outdoor dining. The atmosphere is comfortable, nicely decorated and has ambiance of eating in someone's home. The staff is extremely friendly, prompt and attentive without being overbearing. The prices were great and the food was fresh, authentic and plentiful! I will definitely dine here again. Two thumbs up!

Surprisingly quaint and enjoyable

By J Dan |

I heard only recently about this place though I've lived in Dallas over 30 years. My boss recommended it though he warned me you should view this as a seafood place more than as a Mexican food restaurant. He also went to the Skillman Ave location, not the original location where my wife and I decided to go after church on Sunday. What a nice surprise! I've never been in this part of Oak Cliff in Dallas and I felt good when I saw the repurposed older prairie style home where the restaurant now functions. Old homes with original hardwoods are so inviting and this one is too - the dark wood floors are accented with white walls and royal blue wood trim. Very light and festive! I had the red snapper and my wife had the tilapia. Flavors were good but not very spicy- you get to add in the salsa they serve (warm tomatillo was my favorite) at the level you prefer. Pretty fast service given the very large crowd. We met the lovely lady owner and her daughter, too. She's worked it since 1981. Hope you enjoy it too one day!

I don't eat seafood, but...

By Departure58441 |

I don't eat seafood, but the mexican food here is very good. Worth a trip to Oak Cliff.

Disappointing

By rhpatt29 |

The menu sounds great. Too bad the actual food doesn't live up to expectations. The drinks were good. Different flavors of margaritas and Mexican beer. For appetizers we had the Mexican ahi and the cervichie. The ahi was acceptable, but the cervichie was pretty darn good. The entrees were disappointing. Mojo snapper was so-so. The camorones dish was mediocre. A large salad with blackened snapper was not good. The snapper was actually greasy. Fish tacos were ok. Service was excellent. The worst part of the evening was that the Mexican singer was extremely loud and top that off with very poor acoustics, conversation was next to impossible. I cannot recommend this place. If you go, try to sit away from the troubadour.

Added tip

By johnny a |

I gave 4 stars because I enjoy this place, the food is great but I added a 10 dollar tip on my cc card and they added an extra 5. Found out the next day. Its not hurting me but where's the integrity of the waiter.

Friendly! Authentic! Great atmosphere & food!

Since opening an office near by earlier this year and have been several times. Food and service are always great. Great hangout for locals including the local police. Everything I have had on the menu has been great. Good spot for lunch and nice spot at night for date.

Great Mexican Gulf Coast Cuisine

By docntx |

The real thing. Not Tex-Mex, but true basic fare with the taste of the Mexican Gulf Coast. Portions are generous, yet not overwhelming. Great atmosphere, with musicians wandering about the tables offering their fare for tips. The paella on weekends is almost a tradition with us.

Unusual Mexican Food

By Janet M |

The dishes at this restaurant were not the same ol' same ol'. We have a lot of Tex Mex restaurants, but this one served lovely seafood dishes. One cold seafood dish was served in a large beer goblet, swimming in a tomato base with large oysters, shrimp, etc. The restaurant is large and can accommodate large groups/parties and has a large bar in the back. The wait staff was attentive to needing to put us in special seating for one in our group had difficulty walking. It's a place you'll want to return many times.

Don't go on Mother's Day!!

By Metoody |

MIL wanted to eat at La Calle Doce for Mother's Day. Original wait wasn't too long, but we sat unattended at the table for 30 minutes. Waitress too our drink orders and then it took another 15 minutes, we finally asked a bus person for napkins and silverware. It was apparent that they were WAY understaffed. Also, our waitress had a very limited grasp of English. The Pina Colada was undrinkable. We had to pint out the MIL's food hadn't been brought with the rest of the order. When it did arrive, it was awful. I suspect that the order was missed and cooked hurriedly. Frog legs were substituted for chicken and were very undercooked. The rest of it was just as bad. This is the second time that food and service at this location have been unsatisfactory. We will drive MIL to the North Dallas location going forward...

Nice atmosphere - good food

By texasjtr |

Chose this restaurant because it was on a list provided by our downtown hotel. Its a short drive from downtown and well worth it. Service was prompt and the margaritas were some of the best we've ever had. Most seating is inside but we chose to sit on the porch after dark - nice atmosphere for a relaxed meal. Most Tex-Mex here in Texas (we live in Houston) focuses on beef or chicken. Here seafood dominates and its a wonderful alternative. I had Camaron Relleno (shrimp with seasoned crabmeat) and it was very good. The only negative (minor) was parking can be somewhat of a challenge. However if you time it correctly even that won't be an issue. Just circle and because someone is leaving you'll find a place. We will definitely return on future visits to Dallas.

A Tex-Mex Gem!

By drtld |

Whenever I pick up my husband at his downtown Dallas office for lunch, this is where I want to go. Hop, skip, jump over to La Calle Doce. I always order the chicken enchiladas. Why? Because nowhere, and I mean nowhere, in Dallas will you find chicken like they use in their enchiladas. We have other Tex-Mex restaurants we like (closer to home), but the chicken enchiladas cannot compare. The chicken tastes like it just came off the bone--very fresh and flavorful. Not frozen and microwaved, not canned. The result is that every bite is delicious and savory. The rice is fluffy, with tiny bits of vegetables cooked to perfection and a solid balance of tomato/chili flavorings. I would say more about the menu but I can't get past the chicken enchiladas. My husband has the beef enchiladas and guacamole tostadas, and he raves about them. Their reputation for seafood is excellent, as well. BTW, wonderful location in converted home--tastefully decorated in white and blue. Oh, and when we order lunch we get our food in about 5 minutes. What's not to love?

Fish Taco lovers UNITE!!!

By robmcliberty |

EPIC Mexican seafood.!! Had the 3 Amigos tacos. Fresh & Outstanding:Mahi Mahi, salmon, & white fish. And they "knocked it out the park" on the black bean & corn relish. My wife had very good chicken enchiladas. Great place in quaint house. Will definitely stop by next time in Dallas.

The local enthusiasm for this restaurant is unmistakeable

By Kenpasha |

Average here means "good". We were here with our local hosts, who had a kind of cooking-at-the-table fajitas. The fish soup was very good, and we also had an entree of paella. The fish in our dish (we shared the huge portion) was a bit dry, so we would just call it "okay", but the establishment was full of locals including several family groups, and the place has a lot of local history. The positive feeling towards this eatery is abundantly clear. Therefore, we'll just assign it a "B" for now and come back to try again another time. Bon appetit!

Something a little different

By BrussoDallas |

We've had a few group lunches at La Calle Doce in Oak Cliff. It's pretty dead around lunch time so it's easy for them to take a big group. The service hasn't always been the best but the food is always good. It's a little expensive for lunch if you don't order off the limited lunch menu.
