La Creperie in Chicago's north side is a wonderful breakfast alternative to the long lines at the popular pancake and breakfast places around town. The restaurant has been there for twenty years (at least). While they open for brunch at 11 am, there wasn't a line to get in and my friend and I easily walked in and sat down. The menu is all things French and crepes. I had the Spinach Florentine with egg, bacon, and potatoes. My friend had the traditional ham and cheese. Both came out quickly and were abundantly plated. We both had their French press coffee. I have come in the afternoon on another occasion and had their strawberry and chocolate crepe. So yummy. The prices are very affordable making it another reason to jump ship of those long lines at the pancake houses. Parking is street parking and there was a spot right in front. Service was very gracious and on point.

Unless you are a teenager on a date from the suburbs don't bother.

We were staying around the corner from Le Creperie on our recent visit to Chicago and after traveling were looking for a early afternoon meal. We started with really tasty cocktails. Then classic escargot in butter and garlic with crusty baguette to soak up the sauce. I went for a classic chicken and mushroom crepe while my partner opted for the ratatouille with a white and read Bordeaux wine. We shared the Suzette Germain for desert. Really classic flavors served with nice wine and cocktails.

Charming little place with delicious food and friendly staff. My husband and I happened upon it for lunch and enjoyed the experience so much we stopped in later the same day to get another two tasty crepes.

We stopped by La Creperie on a whim. Crepes sounded good at 10pm on a Satuday night, so we dropped in here, got a bunch of food to go. We totally enjoyed the La Pomme ~ Apples sautéed in butter and cinnamon and the La Noix de coco ~ Chocolate and toasted coconut.

Haven’t been here in a few years but this is where she wanted to go! It was special. Looks the same, foods were great, wine was delicious & service was a pleasure. We had a friendly conversation while eating some crepes, I had beef & vegetable crepe, another had shrimp & crab crepe & another co co van crepe. Then dessert crepes of chocolate & grand mariner crepes & my lemon & powered sugar crepe! Oh they all were special, we won’t wait that long again!

My partner and I ate here a couple of years ago. The food was so good it inspired me to start making crêpe again. Today I had there hearty lentil soup served with sliced baguette, followed by the chicken and mushroom crêpe in a rich creamy sauce. I'm so glad it still here and the food is great. It's open until at least 11pm and later on Thurs, Fri and Sat. Closed on Monday.

La Creperie is open again! Seems like nothing has changed. I had the chicken and mushroom crepe and the chocolate desert crepe. They were as good as any crepes I have eaten in France. The wine list is still pretty average. For their price point, they could offer a little better quality wine. The place looked the same but there was a wonderful feeling in the air. I think that everyone was happy to have the place open again. Welcome back! Stay another 40 years. Why not?

The service is always good. The establishment is a little hidden and small, but it really makes you feel like you're dining at a real French restaurant. The decor is great, the drinks are too, but the food is even better!

Delicious breakfast, lunch or brunch. Sweet AND savory crepes, and the little back patio is perfect in the summer! Quiet and relaxing.

Almost like Paris in Chicago? Well, not really - but very well done savory and desert crepes. I gave them solid average scores because there's not much innovation here. The service is good and the food is tasty (if you want a crepe-based menu). Just not worth shouting "very good" about.

The crepes are absolutely delicious!!! I have been there a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. We were there after 9 pm and sat on the back patio and there was live music. It gave us a taste of Paris! I have tried to go last year but it was closed. I was ecstatic to know that it reopened. I have been there a couple of times this month. The service is amazing. We had the epinards creme, Poulet et fromage de chèvre, Fruits de mer, La Classique, and La Romantique. There were all absolutely delicious

Had not been here for many years but the crepes were just as good as I remember. Savory and sweet all delicious!

This is a great place with a fantastic waitstaff. The crepes could have been a little better though. Overall a great time.

Go! This place is the real deal. Has fantastic crepes, prices and a very intimate atmosphere. I haven't had as good a Nutella and banana crepe since Paris. There's a really cute garden seating area and do try their brunch crepes, they are pretty good.

Several people recommended this place and when we walked in, we had high hopes for this very French-looking bistro. Unfortunately, we were seated at a table at the entrance to the back room which meant customers and staff were constantly squeezing by. The coffee and bread were delicious, but served by a rather surly waiter. We shared a ham and Swiss crepe as well as a chocolate crepe and, while both fillings were ok, the crepes were overcooked, tough and chewy. They looked more like something from a panini maker than a crepe pan. Very disappointing.

So glad this place is still around. We had savory crepes for supper (chicken in herb cream sauce w/mushrooms, and chicken in curry cream sauce w/mango chutney) and split a sweet one for dessert (caramel and salted butter). They even split it before bringing it to us on separate plates. The caramel crepes were sublime, and I don't use that word lightly. Might be too sweet for some, but oh, so good.

There is a way of dining in Europe generally, and France in particular, that Americans tend not to appreciate. Likely not because of any predisposition, but because there aren't many opportunities to engage in this kind of experience. Both my wife and I find this to be one of the finest such experiences we've come across since moving back to the States. An exceptionally capable staff will help you spend the better part of an evening sipping a variety of wines, sample exquisite cheeses, and eventually smother you with gigantic crepes that are perfectly executed. If the weather is warm, the front windows are opened onto the sidewalk to accentuate the cafe experience. If the weather is cold, there is a fireplace to sit next to and revel in. If it is raining, there is no better way to enjoy that than to be warm and dry and pleasantly buzzed while noshing away. And since you're in Chicago, chances are you can experience all of these in a single evening. So, great food, great wine, great atmosphere, great staff. There is nothing lacking at this restaurant.

Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere, nothing more to say (besides the fact I was incredibly impressed)

Spare yourself ! run away ! I am French and I know what Crepes are...there is nothing French about La Creperie, and certainly not these overpriced pale imitation of sorry crepes served in a 1970's "vintage " decor in bad need of a make-over. The furniture is sticky, the vinyl on the chairs peeling off, the walls are dark brown with some old poster of an Eiffel Tower to really make you think you are eating French... I went for a fun dinner with 4 other French ladies: the salade Nicoise was a soggy 3 lettuce leaves fighting a battle with a hard boiled egg, centered by pieces of tuna fresh from the water can...Nicoise , Hello ? the dessert crepes felt like paper folded in 4 with sirup over... the waitress was sweet. When came the ridiculous bill, we were charged a mandatory 18 % gratuities, even though we were only 5 ladies. when we talked to the manager, who of course could not speak one word of French, he told us this was our own making since we had initially booked for 8, therefore the charge. When we pointed out the sorry restaurant was empty on a Tuesday eve, he still did not want to acknowledge we were only 5, therefore we could have given our gratuities to the waitress ? so overall: Yes 1 star: Bad setting, Bad food, Bad service si vous pouvez lire le Francais: epargnez votre palais, votre estomac et votre porte-monnaie, oubliez La Creperie !

This is a family run business that has been open since the 1970's. The owner, Germain, is from Brittany, France and has THE BEST crepes, onion soup in the United States. When you visit, you step back into a little cafe in France. The atmosphere has not changed. My husband and I went for a date in the 70's and just returned to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. The food is still delicious. There have been a few changes to the menu, but the original taste, and memories are still there. It's fabulous. If the weather is nice, have brunch in the garden on Sunday.

Creperies don't seem to have a huge following around here, and our visit to La Creperie reminded us of why. Apart from menu items with French-sounding names and faded wall hangings of Parisian landmarks, little else about this place is truly French. The décor is closer to Nixon-era Lakeview à la disrepair than quaint West Bank. OK, call it ‘shabby chic’ for the chipped, peeling paint and uneven floors (be careful not to trip over the loose chunk of wood just inside the door to the patio). The menu lists crepes under two headings - savory or sweet. The filling in the beef bourguignon crepe (savory) was delicious but the doughy buckwheat crepe was about as yummy as a manila folder and, at $13.50, was pricey. The dessert crepes fared better but were also overpriced and anointed only with a stingy dollop of whipped cream. Croque Madame, a ham and cheese sandwich with a fried egg on top, was excellent and more satisfying than any of the crepes. With only one server and one busboy to handle the lunch crowd, service was glacial. Errors made in the kitchen were amplified by the harried server with her haughty we’re-right-and-you’re-wrong demeanor (now, THAT’S French). Crepes served at most local pancake houses are as good or better and priced right, without the attitude. Au revoir!

We come to Chicago a lot on small leisure trips. We always seek out foods of interest. Being a lover of crepes I love to find little places that are quaint and cozy. Thought we would try this place out for some crepes. I know good crepes but this was not at all good. We were highly disappointed and really should of sent the food back it was that bad. The crepes were so tough it was all you could do to cut it to get a bite. The few potatoes to the side were cold and undesirable. For what we paid we would of expected much better! We were very embarrassed for our guest as they had never had crepes before and they were not impressed. I tried to explain to them that I had never had crepes that bad and tough, ever! They felt very let down and wished they had never went, which was very embarrassing for us. Won’t recommend this to anyone........ I never complain about places to eat as we travel everywhere!

I've been to this restaurant many times and it's usually very good. However, we went here on Bastille Day and were very disappointed not only with the service, but also the food. The crepes were slightly burnt and dry on the inside. My sister had the salad nicoise and it was basically a salad with canned tuna. Our waitress was very friendly, but we sat for 15 minutes before she ever came to our table and then only once before we got our check. I doubt if we will ever go back.

While the crepes may or may not be authentic they are tasty. Our party of 5 had nothing but crepes and we were very satisfied. The Fruits de Mer, Chicken Curry and Beef Bourguignon were our favorites while the spinach was nothing great. We had chocolate and banana shared for desert and liked it too. The decor is nothing special, dated and old, but somehow works in that setting of a family owned busuness. Service was decent, nothing special either way. We did see alot of families come in on a Sunday evening and luckily beat the rush.

Friendly service. Excellent crepes - crispy on the outside and tasty, high-quality ingredients on the inside. We had the fruits de mer (shrimp & scallops w/bechamel sauce) and the vegetarian (broccoli & tomato). Nice bubbly by the glass on New Year's Eve. Old bistro atmosphere w/fireplace and lovely French music set the stage for a late lunch after seeing a movie at Landmark Century Cinema. We will return!

If you are near the intersection of Clark & Diversey, which is quickly becoming a foodie destination, make sure that trying La Creperie is on the agenda! This cozy French cabin is located across the street from Landmark Theaters and even has a fireplace to boot! It is incredibly convenient that if you bring in your ticket stubs from seeing a movie you will even get a free chocolate crepe- what could be better? Serving the neighborhood since 1972, their website claims they are the oldest creperie restaurant in the U.S. It was closed for a brief stint in 2013 after the owner’s son passed away and then reopened quietly again in 2014. It has the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner date or just meeting with friends. If you can get the coveted table in front of the fireplace warmth you will be all set to enjoy one of the best dinners that winter in Chicago can offer! Though, the outdoor patio behind the restaurant is rumored to also be a favorite city spot. Vintage travel and wine posters adorn the walls with a pink tint from the neon “La Creperie” sign. Signature dishes revolve around savory and sweet crepe selections. Make sure to try both! Anything with the fabulous béchamel sauce will not disappoint. Recently I went and tried escargot for the first time. It was served out of the shell alongside a cut baguette- simply divine! We didn’t get to try coffee, desserts, or the French onion soup, but these options are definitely something to prioritize for next time. La Creperie is yet another neighborhood favorite that makes living and dining in Chicago a perfect cultural experience. Bon Appétit!

We have been visiting La Creperie since my parents first went back in the 1970's. We love the crepes which are the traditional french buckwheat instead of flour. Jermaine the owner is always so friendly and knows my mom so he always greets us. They have a good variety of crepes to choose from though we get the same thing every time. The only bad thing is the atmosphere. It's a little too dark for my taste.

I ate brunch with family here and it was wonderful, great French atmosphere and very attentive service. I would definitely go back the next time I'm in Chicago.

Their dessert creps are amazing!!

This cozy neighborhood place, in the heart of Lakeview, features crepes and simple provincial French details. They consistently get the details right. The servers are informed and attentive, the wine list is generous and of high quality (even of the most modest bottle), and I have never had a bad crepe in over 35 years as a patron. A singleton diner is made welcome, as well as small groups, which can also be served in their back patio garden in warm weather.

This is a small restaurant near on Clark Street near Lincoln Park. They have signs noting they are celebrating 50 years in business, and having eaten there, I can understand why. I had onion soup and a savory crepe, and both were delicious. While it was a little bit pricey for a neighborhood restaurant, I'd definitely come back.

The crepes are fantastic and they follow the good old french recipes. My favorite is seafood on a light white sauce and of course the crepe suzette. Can't go wrong with any of the crepes and a nice selection of french wines also very affordable.

I had just come from the gym. While walking home I spotted this young guy handing out samples across the street. I was starving and it was very tempting. Lots of traffic and an ambulance rushing down Clark made it hard to cross. This kid, Juan, was so dedicated that he came to us. He offered the nutella strawberry crepes and my whole life changed. We said oh maybe we'll come back later. We got to end of the block and went back. It's a cute little french restaurant. The crepes did us in. I ordered those and still dream about them. My boyfriend had the split pea soup. I don't like peas at all but I tried that soup and it was delicious... especially with some french bread. Overall, I would definitely recommend. It's on a quiet part of the street and so easy to overlook but it was well worth the walk inside. Ask for Juan and those strawberry nutella crepes.

Went back to this restaurant that I used to go to weekly back in the 80's when I lived in Chicago. Well....it has definitely survived the times....because it's still just as good & just as fun!!

This restaurant was near my hotel and caught my eye as I haven't had crepes in a long time. It was lunchtime and I ordered the brunch crepe - ham, cheese, and eggs with bacon and hash browns on the side. A lot of food and a good value! Everything was very good and I was stuffed!

The atmosphere is fantastic. The crêpes are fantastic very good quality comparable to a French restaurant in France. I really enjoyed the French onion soup and the escargot as an appetizer. I had the ham and cheese crepes for my entire and I left feeling amazing. The beer I had was fantastic and so was then white wine I had. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that likes French food.

La Creperie is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. It is affordable, cute, and the food is great! Not too big, not too small -- Just perfect for a special occassion, or to go for a Sunday brunch. The crepes are fabulous, and the steak frites fantastic. The service is exceptional as well.

I guess I had the creperie don't remember to much the menu... I liked the warm tea on of the day back to winter days..that was a relief...

If the weather is nice, walk thru the dark dining area to the patio. An oasis with mature trees, a fountain and relaxing music. A perfect place to have crepes and end a perfect day.

This is a very friendly, very French feeling restaurant with a nice selection of ciders and wine, both by bottle and glass, all reasonably pried. Tables are close together but still a good conversation is possible without raising your voice. Service was relaxed but efficient and this place knows how to treat customers. We started with French onion soup, very traditional, very good, but filling. So watch out because the savory creeps are huge, very tasty, and pair well wit cider. They have quite a few with chicken but plenty of choices for vegetarians. They were very good but we were too full to order any sweet creeps, of which they had an armful land the looked great as our neighbors devoured them. Good selection of brandies and French liqueurs. Definitely a place to return to many times as very reasonable prices. ZB

Not only did this place have excellent crepes but the atmosphere was French bistro like. In an age where French restaurants are hard to find, we enjoyed the wine, our savory and dessert crepes. My partner’s son frequents the place and we quickly understood why. I loved the popular crepe with chicken, white sauce tomatoes and goat cheese. They kindly split our Nutella and strawberries and served it on 4 plates. Lovely evening!

I have been visiting La Creperie for decades. While it has changed a bit over the years since Germaine owned the resaurant. The recipes and ambiance remain the same. Very authentic food, feels like you are in France. I do miss the salad entree dessert combo that was on the menu for years.

We come here often. The cheese boards never disappoint. The creps almost always excellent (the beef bourguignon was a tad too salty this time). The Grand Marnier crep one of my favorites. Discovered an incredible sauvignon blanc blend! Service has always been very attentive. The overall four-star recs speaks to the quality and consistency.

Short drive north of downtown, but plenty of street parking and a large parking garage/movie theater nearby. Fantastic crepe monsieur and madam (with egg), and best onion soup I've had in Chicago. This place tastes even better than it did before it closed, and the wait and service were super efficient. The hot chocolate is extremely bland, but the chocolate dessert crepe was so intense and flavorful that we had to split it between four people, and then order something else as a foil to it - the caramel crepe was absolutely drenched (maybe also a bit too one-note) but very authentic and perfect to share. We sat in the very back of the 2nd room (past the kitchen) which was a little drafty, but not uncomfortable, and the back wall is glass, so you can see out into their small backyard. Great experience!

This place is wonderful. I went there alone yesterday I had a wonderful welcome and the food was very good. I m French and live in US for 7 years and for 30 minutes I was back in france. The owner is very kind. He came to my table to say hello and came back to say bye. Very very nice place. Merci!!

La Creperie has been here forever! Staying power! My father used to live close by and as kids, it would be a special treat for us when our family would have dinner at La Creperie, as an adult I find myself using it as the go to restraunt for special occasions, quiet dates or to impress a coworker, u cant go wrong, the food is excellent, great quality, atmosphere and staff. I love the chicken , ham and cheese, spinach and dessert crepes

One of our go-to places. Consistently good with excellent service! Fantastic FOS! The beef bourguignon crepes were great. The waiter recommended a smooth red blend that wasn't even the most expensive wine!

Lovely french bistro. Loved the crepes, the location, the champagne selection and the atmosphere. A piece of real France in Chicago!

The formula is so good that La Creperie hasn't changed much in 40 years. Although novelty may be exciting, tradition is comforting, and that's exactly what you get at La Creperie. A rustic French atmosphere, especially if the weather is fine enough to take a table in the delightfully secluded garden at the rear. A simple menu focused mainly on tasty crepes (pancakes with sweet fillings) and galettes (pancakes with savory fillings), but with other choices such as a classic French onion soup. A short but well balanced and very reasonably priced wine list; but also delights such as (hard) Cider from Normandy served from an earthenware jug into earthenware bowls. And happy, friendly service in this family run restaurant. You may arrive hungry, but you will certainly leave this relaxed, moderately priced restaurant comfortably sated. The interior, especially the rear room, is however becoming definitely tired and shabby. Time for a makeover.

This is a nice gem of an affordable French restaurant we found on a snowy Sunday in January. They have a fireplace and mimosas! The crepe was good but had too much spinach. The baguette and jam was amazing.

Portions are huge, food is delicious and very rich. Anyone could easily split a crepe; that is if you can decide on one to share!! the menu has options for every meal of the day, sweet or savory- there is s choice you'll like!

For our daughter's Bday we brought the large extended family here to celebrate! It's one of her favorite places so we have been a lot over the years & were very sad when it closed for awhile. Great crepes all around, both savory & dessert. My husband who is gluten free had the Salad Nicoise which was ok, pretty straightforward. The place is casual, cozy, & quaint, much like an eatery in Paris. The service was just ok though. And we were disappointed that our server didn't even do anything for the desserts like put a candle on anything or even say Happy Birthday! We had made reservations way in advance so the restaurant knew & had reminded the waitress when we were there, but that was a miss.... The kind owner was not there that evening or he would probably have come over & made an appearance or something. I mentioned the miss to the manager on the way out, so hopefully she has improved.

We have been going here for the past 8 to 10 years and it is our annual tradition after the parade in Chicago. The food while it remains wonderful and a great value for the fresh crepes, the service has just not been there the past couple years. The food is great but the service needs to improve. Long waits for drinks, breads, etc. The wait staff was not on the game and seemed to be unconnected with the guests. Service is the key to success and this place needs to improve its game. While we were a party of 9 the restaurant was not very busy. I have to give a shout out for the Busser as he was amazzing and if he was not there to help serve the guests, we probably would have never gotten bread, water, drinks, etc. I wish I had his name as he was awesome compared to the wait staff.

I recently dined at La Creperie with my granddaughter - she had been there before and wanted to share it with me. It was delightful! We sat outside and I would highly recommend doing this. It's wonderful outside space - and you don't feel as though you are on top of everyone else. She began the evening with French Onion Soup which she loves. I had a taste and it was delicious. I waffled between Escargot and (one of my favorites) vichyssoise but had to have the vichyssoise - I hadn't had it for years! It had a delicate flavor and just the right consistency - perfectly seasoned. My granddaughter ordered a chocolate crepe but I was looking for something savory. I decided on the fromage - just wanted wonderful cheese! When my order came, I realized it had tomatoes and broccoli in it which puzzled me. I asked our server, Jeremy, who discovered immediately that I had received the wrong crepe, put in my original order and told me there would be no charge for my crepe. I was astounded - excellent customer service! Jeremy was superb throughout the entire meal - and we had a great evening!

This restaurant has been around for a long time, and it doesn't change. The decor is sort of college dorm (Paris posters on the wall), but the food has remained consistently good over the years. Great French onion soup, the crepes are hearty and tasty, with savory and sweet options. Staff is very accomodating, and will mix and match ingredients to your order. Has an outdoor patio.

The atmosphere here is wonderful. The selection of crepes is huge. Everything was delicious. I will definitely make another trip here when I am back in Chicago again!

Very yummy and great ambiance plus a great backyard patio

Sensational. The savory crepes (we had the spinach, chicken/mushrooms, and vegetables with goat cheese) were each PERFECTION and the salted caramel and butter crepe was so divine we literally cleaned our plates with our knives!!! THEY PREFER RESERVATIONS- and have an enchanting back patio.

Very tasty food and looking forward to returning. Good service, and the place is clean. The music is a French delight which adds to your adventure. Thought the coffee and onion soup were extremely over priced. However, my crepe was excellent and price was acceptable. My visit was mid April, so the outdoor garden area wasn't open yet. Looking forward to that.

Decent food, better ambiance. It's worth it to go and eat crepes in this cozy little restaurant. It's cute, dark, and the walls are covered with old travel prints from France. The dinner crepes are OK, tasty and filling but nothing special. The dessert crepes are very nice. The place is conveniently located across the street from Landmark Century Theaters, so it's a good place to meet before or afterwards to have a cup of cafe au lait, or a pear brandy, etc.

This lovely restaurant in Lincoln Park serves the best crapes, both entrée and dessert. But the best secret is, if you keep walking deep into this restaurant you’ll wander into an outdoor dinning area. Something I would have missed if a local hadn’t told me about it. Prices were good, too.

Really tasty crepes! Really friendly staff. Highly recommended. I had the one with chicken and goat cheese -yummy!

Been coming here for years and this place always brings back fond memories of Paris. The décor is amazing, very charming feel to the restaurant. the drinks were great, but the crepes are off the charts good. They're always bigger and more decadent than I remember and I'm always glad we don't get anything else to eat because they're so filling. Definitely one of favorite spots in the whole city.

Nothing like it elsewhere in Chicago or the 'burbs. This is NOT fru-fru bistro food. It is the same basic menu that has carried it along since '72 (but for a short period when the owner THOUGHT he could retire but both a strong customer base and personal tragedy brought him back). The menu is not large but for the crepes, but has plenty to choose from. Same with the wine menu. Small but well balanced. This was a spur of the moment after the movie thing. 7:30 or so on a rainy Sunday evening. My dining companion and I each had a cup of the du jour soup - "potato leek" which is essentially hot vichyssoise. Very well balanced, nice. My companion ordered the chicken curry crepe; I ordered the chicken with chevre (goat cheese). I almost went for the ratatouille crepe . . . Mine was almost like a calzone with bits of tomato, tender chicken and herbed goat cheese. My companion's curry was just so -- not a hot curry, and just aromatic enough without being overpowering, and a small side of aromatic rice. The portions are generous. I had hot tea (designated driver); the staff actually checks, pours and refills without having to ask and to make sure it stays hot. My companion had a vouvray chenin blanc -- perfers a sweeter wine -- actually recommended by staff - perfect choice. Staff apologized there was a bit of a lag - the place filled up all at once, no problem. But compared with the "are you ok over here" or the waving of the bottomless coffee pot... kind of service, this is just that much more refined. Overall it's the kind of service you don't get much anymore: attention without hovering or intrusion. Ambiance? Gas fire place, high ceilings, posters, real wood tables. Almost country rustic. And the owner still walks around unassumingly making sure everything is just so. And while it's an a la carte menu, my feeling is that it is very reasonably priced. We'll be back.....

I was visiting from out of town with my husband, mother, and 17-year-old niece. She wanted a crepe, and we found this place on Yelp. It sounded like a local favorite, and a lot of people compared it to an authentic French patisserie. Sold. It was easy to find on Clark, a major thoroughfare in Lincoln Park. We found plenty of meter parking within a few blocks. The place itself is charming, looks like it's been there for ages, and not twee at all. It's very tight, though. We sat in a corner booth and had to squeeze past another diner's table - probably brushed our butts on their water glasses. The food was fine - nothing outstanding. The crepes are big, and our were soft on the outside and rich inside. We only had sweet ones - the creme Anglaise (runny, hard to eat, most filling pooled on the plate), the Nutella (very good, but then again, hard to mess up), and the strawberry (yummy,,, sweet, fresh). Also had an omelet (fluffy) and Lyonnaise potatoes (NOT authentic... no cream, not rich... they are very well-done Southern Indiana fried potatoes, perfectly soft and crisp). A lot of people rave about the patio, but it was too cold to sit there. This place is worth it if you're in the neighborhood, but it's not a special destination for out-of-towners.

If you are looking for a charming, reasonably priced, romantic eveningt, go to La Creperie. It has been in Chicago for years, has delicious crepes and is across from the art house movie theater, making for a perfect date night.

Little gem of a place in a bustling, upbeat neighborhood. Our first visit, but won't be our last - delicious, nourishing food, prepared with fresh ingredients and care. The crepes are unexpectedly square, and generously fill the plate. They arrive at the table hot, and not much to look at, but oh, with the first bite you know the show is all inside. Expertly flavored, soul satisfying food, that is unique to this area. We were pleasantly filled after our dinner crepes, but wanted to taste a dessert crepe, and shared one dark chocolate filled crepe. It arrived cut perfectly in 3 pieces, and led to much ohhing and awwing and eye rolling indulgence. Wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Decor is rustic and fits the food. Intimate tables in the front room look out on the street scene; a more spacious back room looks out on greenery. Street parking and parking garage across the street. Wonderful on all levels - just go!

I avoided this place for a while because it looked a little sketchy. I finally ate there and really enjoyed it. The service and food was very good.

Love this little spot on Clark St for crepes and wine. The place is small, so reservations would be best.

When you walk in you feel as though you are in a small restaurant in Paris. The menu is very typical of crepe restaurants in France -- about 12 savory and 12 sweet crepes for dinner and dessert. The prices are very reasonable and the service was fantastic. Highly recommended.

La Creperie will always have a special place in my heart! Being family owned and in business for over 35 years, you can not go wrong with this highly respected and well-loved Chicago restaurant. La Creperie has a warm, inviting, romantic atmosphere and Germain is a wonderful, caring, friendly host. The authentic French menu is simple, yet delicious. Viva La Creperie - a true treasure!

Grabbed a quick bite before a movie, the crepes are authentic and craveable

Don't go here. I used to come here years ago when it was authentic and well priced. It has since been sold to a new owner and the original owner is back in France. In sum: the food is terrible, they use canned mushrooms and cream of chicken in one crepe and frozen spinach in another. Presentation was like fast food, a sprig of parlesy if you're lucky. At a price of $12 a crepe, it's ridiculous. The wait staff is headed by a young American who fakes a French acent (he was insulted when I spoke to him in French and couldn't reply) and the kitchen staff is skilless. How insulting. This place is NOT what it once was. I give it zero stars.

Great crepes. We also had a desert crepe and it was great. and good cocktails.

This place is a bad pretense of French food. I recently returned from 3 months in Paris and I was hopeful a Chicago French place might come close to what I was used to. No such luck. For one thing, they don't serve crepes, they serve galettes and the staff had no idea of the difference. The pates were clearly store bought, the onion soup was bland and the frites awful. The decor is cute, the food is not worth eating.

All-crepe menu (with a couple of exceptions). Delicious and authentic, hidden away in Lincoln Park. Up front, all you see is a tiny room with a bar and you think you'll never get a table. But wait, there's a whole other room behind, and the decor and atmosphere are wonderful. Beautiful garden too, which we couldn't take advantage of in October unfortunately. Staff and service are attentive and friendly. We found this place by pure chance, and I'm so glad we did.

We stopped in for an after theatre dessert. Had a delicious sweet choice (chocolate and coconut). Generous portion. Perfect for a unique dessert. We each had a glass of wine. A nice way to end the evening. Will definitely go back for a dinner sometime. Service was prompt and friendly

On a cold, windy Chicago evening, sitting down to a bowl of savory, steaming potato-leek soup at La Creperie did more than thaw me out. It brought back memories of meals enjoyed on visits to France, where well-prepared food served in an unhurried setting always offered a welcome alternative to America's grab-and-go fast food mania. La Creperie, a cozy, unpretentious cafe in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, presents a straightforward menu of crepes--either savory, filled with meat or vegetables, or sweet. So instead of a myriad of choices prepared with modest success, La Creperie concentrates on what it does best, and turns out excellent crepes that are both delicate in texture, yet hearty and satisfying. I chose the fruits de mer (seafood) crepe, with tender bits of shrimp and seafood bathed in a velvety béchemal sauce. Rather than simply folded in half as most American restaurants do, La Creperie folds the crepe into a square (which I experienced in France), which seemed to keep the contents warmer as the meal progressed. For dessert, I chose the simple Citron crepe. Its light touch of lemon flavoring and a few dabs of real whipped cream ended the meal on the perfect note.

I went to have brunch with my husband and since I lived in France and know a bit of French crepes, I was actually expecting something really good. Instead, the crepes we ordered were not very tasty and the bacon and potatoes coming along were almost burned. I have not tried the sweet crepes so I do not know if they are better. The place is really cozy and warm for a cold winter day though!

The cozy neighborhood restaurant serves both savory & sweet crepes. Love them.

Found this restaurant on a trip to Chicago. I had an amazing beef bourginion crepe and a strawberry crepe. People in my party also had a ham and cheese crepe that was really good. The waitress overheard it was my birthday, she brought out some whipped cream with a candle and sang "happy birthday."

With a outdoor patio, the ambiance here in the summer is great. I had a ratatouille crepe which was delicious, with non-alcoholic cider, also delicious. On other occasions, I've had the dessert crepes. It's hard to have both at one meal, as both the savory (main dish) crepes and the dessert crepes are quite filling. Pleasant service.

Went here on a date and had a wonderful time. La Creperie is a charming place! The food and service were excellent, and we both appreciated the quiet atmosphere. We were able to converse and hear each other, which was a nice change from other restaurants we've been to. I had a vegetarian crepe and he had one with chicken, and we had lemon crepes for dessert.

La Creperie is my all-time favorite restaurant in Chicago. The atmosphere is out of this world. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The wine selections are great, and greatly priced (also has Three Floyd's beers available, which is amazing!). The crepe options are to die for. In the summer there is the most amazing outdoor seating area that makes you feel like you are in your own backyard. They could charge double for the food (but please don't! =). Can't recommend this place enough.

A group of us went here for brunch before heading to a play! We had a reservation so we didn’t wait. The restaurant wasn’t overly crowded and we were taken care of right away.! The food is outstanding. The French onion soup is the best I’ve ever had - Not bitter with an after taste. Just very smooth and delicious. The crepes are wonderful. Each is made to order so it does take a little while but it’s well worth the wait. And they are huge. We finished with a chocolate and banana crepe that we split. It was very good but we were all really full so I don’t think we got the full impact of its deliciousness. Next time I might start with a dessert crepe. We split a bottle of champagne and they happily provided us with big glasses of orange juice to make our own mimosas. I’d definitely come here again to eat. The restaurant is like a little French cafe and a fun place to visit.

We went to a movie across the street at the Landmark Theater and then decided to dine here. It was wonderful as always. The crepes are tasty and freshly made. The service we had was wonderful. This place remains an excellent place to dine. Its good to go there after a movie (or anything) to have a dessert crepe. A great place.

The restaurant has a very comfortable, family setting. The staff is friendly and prompt. We had a variety of dinner and dessert crepes. All of them were fresh, hot and tasty. We would return and definitely recommend the place for a casual meal.

We were walking up the street and found this place and immediately fell in love the minute we walked in, as if we walked back in time to our trip to France. We can only speak of the crepes which were delicious. So many choices! When we are back in this Chicago neighborhood, we will definitely return!

Great little restaurant serving main course and desert crepes. The sea-salt caramel desert crepe was so good my mouth waters when I think of it. Dine inside this historic location or move to the garden seating in the back to get a small time European experience. We will visit again! Soon, I hope.

It was a little hard to find, being in a non-restaurant area in a kind of commercial zone. But I was glad we persisted in searching. The place does feel very French, and it was warm enough to sit in the charming rear garden -- quite incongruous on a street like this part of Clark. The service and food were both delightful. The crepe menu is imaginative and diverse. Conveniently for us, it was a fairly short walk to our destination Blues clubs on Halsted. If you've got a reason to be in the neighborhood, I'd definitely recommend this.

While traveling by the local bus, my mom and I discovered this jewel. I can only imagine this place is great during the summer, with patio seating in the back. We both had a basic crepe and they were priced reasonable, and very tasty.

But this will do in a pinch. It's dirty and crowded, nicer outside than inside. We tried it on two consecutive days. The cider was good but seemed expensive at $15 per 750 ml bottle. The buckwheat crepes made a fine breakfast, and the creme anglaise dessert crepe was delicious.

We had a late lunch here. The service was excellent and there's a beautiful garden to eat in out back. My son got a Nutella crepe and my husband and I got an apple crepe to share. The crepes were beautiful presented and reasonably priced. The one we got to share was brought out on two plates which made things easier. Would definitely recommend.

My daughter and I stopped into La Creperie for lunch after a college tour. We were tired and starving and looking forward to a relaxing lunch in the pretty garden. Daughter ordered the baked French onion soup which she always enjoys. I had the seafood crepe which was delicious if not as filled with scallops and shrimp as they had been in the past. Daughter also got steak frites (I told you we were starving) and she devoured it and especially liked the accompanying sauce. We were too full for dessert although the special raspberry and blueberry crepe for Bastille Day on another table looked great. Attentive service.

A Lovely spot to have brunch! We enjoyed several crepes this morning--but the curry chicken crepe was tremendous! And the cold potato soup as a starter was perfect for a hot afternoon! Very refreshing! The spot was very busy, and the wait staff was apologetic and as helpful as possible.

I came here for brunch with three friends on a snowy Sunday. We made a reservation for 1230 pm but probably didn't have to - there were a healthy number of people there but no wait. Maybe on a busier, less horrifically wintery day. My friends were all late and the server was SUPER nice about letting me sit awkwardly by myself for 20 minutes so I really appreciate that. I had plenty of time to look around! The restaurant is so lovely - it is an intimate, romantic cafe that truly makes you feel like you are on a side street in Paris. Covered in old French posters, and inspires lingering for hours (which we did!) Once my friends arrived, I got a decaf latte (no decaffeinated tea, just a heads up!) which was very nice. They brought bread and butter to the table but disappointing the bread wasn't a nice crusty baguette, far too soft and not homemade. Butter came in packets, also a bit disappointing. But didn't really need bread since I got the Crepe Florentine - a crepe filled with creamy spinach and egg, topped with a fried egg, and served with bacon and breakfast potatoes. It was just as lovely as it sounds. So hearty, warm, savory, and delicious. I sprinkled some hot sauce on the potatoes and on the egg, which took it up a notch. This breakfast had everything I could have wanted, and I'm so glad we gave it a try. Not all the crepes are served with sides, but this one is, so if you want potatoes and bacon go for the Crepe Florentine! We lingered long enough that I had a nice glass of riesling after another hour or so. I'm telling you, once you come, you won't want to leave. We almost ordered Second Breakfast like hobbits. Once we saw that French onion soup go by - good GOD. I didn't try it but just from looking at it I feel I can say with confidence that you should order it immediately. A little slice of Paris in Chicago. You won't be disappointed!

It is worn - like an old comfortable pair of slippers! A great place to relax and just chill. Inspired: nothing really Pro: location, server Marie, food good, awesome patio in the summer, wine list, great old posters Con: nothing really Return: you bet! I look forward to eating out back!

Good, but I consistently prefer Vive la crepe in Evanston.

This place is stuck in a 1980's time warp. While some restaurants evolve others wither on the vine. The food is unremarkable, the place is dingy and in need of repair.

When I had gone there, my expectations are higher because I have been in one Creperia in Paraty (Brasil), and the La Creperie at Chicago, is good only, the crepes are not so tasteful and my crepe was a litlle bit well done. The goog thing is, there are a lot of options of wine...good only.

Amazing service! Amazing dessert crepes! My husband were passing through on our way to Milwaukee craving a dessert crepe, and they were very friendly and helpful. We LOVE that they are open late! We only tried dessert crepes this visit, but we are eggar to come back and try something more savory. Once again, I can't adequately explain how wonderful and friendly everyone was an also how delicious the Nutella & banana crepe was. Delish.

I hadn't eaten at La Creperie for years, so expectations for my birthday dinner were high. I was not disappointed. The crepes were scrumptious with so many to choose from, we had a difficult time deciding. We had fruits de la mer (shrimps & scallops in a decadent creme sauce) and ratatouille (savory and much less fattening). We started with the French onion soup - cheese was delish, but the rest just okay. We finished with two dessert crepes - grand mariner with lemon (yum!) and chocolate, peanut butter and banana (yum too!). The service was spectacular, as was our wine and coffee. And the bill was surprisingly small for such a feast. (They gave us one free dessert crepe because of my birthday!). The restaurant is made of a few small rooms and an outdoor patio. They reminded us of being in a Parisian cafe. This restaurant is a special treat worth having!

Tres Parisienne! Great outdoor garden & you can eat with in front open air in nice weather. Uncomplicated good breakfast, easy dinners - you feel like you are in Paris - owners are dolls!

Never been to a creperie before. A good variety of main dish and desert crepes. Seems a place where lots of locals go. Espresso coffee was quite mediocre. Crepes were good.

we heard great reviews about this place so thought we would try it out while we were here, it wasn't as great as other creperie's we have gone to.

The first time I ate at La Creperie was in 1980, I had a couple of friends who were waitstaff there and introduced me to it. Over time the place has expanded, but has remained true to its Breton roots. The crepes are well-prepared and authentic, made with buckwheat flour. The savories are filling and diverse. I love the creamed spinach and the cheese can be done with extras like mushrooms or tomatoes. The menu is great for vegetarians. Save room for a sweet crepe--the waitress suggested salt caramel and peanut butter on our last visit and it was memorable. I've had the flan crepe before and the Nutella and banana. They have excellent Bloodies, beer in bottles and decent champagne by the glass. Worth getting our of downtown to visit!

If you want a small, romantic get-a-way on the Northside I strongly suggest La Creperie! The business is family owned and the people are extremely kind.

Having just returned from Paris a few weeks ago, my husband and I wanted to revisit some of our wonderful meals. We decided to try La Creperie and we were not disappointed in the least! To begin with, it's a small restaurant with a beautiful outside garden area where you can choose to eat too. Even better, Tuesday's are 50% off of bottles of wine, any wine on the menu. My husband ordered steak frites and I ordered a savory crepe. It was chicken, chèvre, and roasted tomatoes. It was something that I would go back for and my husband would too! We ordered a Nutella crepe with locally made chocolate chip ice cream. We split it but loved every bite! It was a delicious meal and we look forward to visiting again! ordered a sweet crepe for dessert!

Did you mean to say La Craperie? What a complete joke.

If you like crepes....

This restaurant is a Chicago icon. Lovely atmosphere (feels as though you're in France) and tasty food.

it's a nice place, but the crepes are just OK

Friendly and very competent staff, tasty food and good portion size. Would definitely come again for true French atmosphere.

Loved the crepes. Would recommend the Flan crepe for dessert: my wife and I love good Flan and bread puddings, and found a flan/crepe combination very tasty. Crepes here easily as good as or better than those we consumed frequently in Paris last summer.

The restaurant has a wonderful, charming, quaint feel. The is a wide variety of crepes available, from meal to dessert types. The sautéed banana with chocolate was fantastic! They also have a nice wine and beer list. Looking forward to another visit to try other menu items!

my dinner crepe was okay, the wine was great, and the chocolate crepes are delicious

I was with a traveler that lived in Chicago and had been coming to La Creperie since 1974. He said the decor hadn't changed much, and the owner hadn't either! Food was exceptional, drinks were good and strong, and atmosphere was outstanding. If you are expecting corporate foodservice, it isn't here! The owner greeted his customers, and by the end of the evening, we knew most everyone around us. Crepes were authentic types, and both the entree and dessert crepes were hearty and flavorful. He also has crepes to take home and eat, and we did.

great date place

La Creperie restaurant has been in my Chicago neighborhood for 20+ years, and it has been about that long since I was there last. Decided to go there last night as we were going to a movie at the multiplex across the street. On a Sunday evening we had immediate seating but had to wait quite a while for a server to greet us; restaurant could have used at least one more server that evening. TERRIFIC: the French Onion Soup! SO-SO: Shared the Beef Burgundy crepe and the Crepe Suzette. The beef filling was Very good, similar to a pot-roast, but the crepe itself was very thick and tough -- it was difficult to cut with the standard table knife provided! Observered other tables having the same experience. Crepe Suzette could have had more "Suzette" and, again, the crepe was tough. La Creperie may be there for another 20+ years but I choose not to go there again.
Crepes! One redeeming contribution from France!
This has become one of me and my girlfriend's go-to places around Lakeview (Asian Bites is another). Consistently good! The beef bourguignon and Grand Marnier were excellent! The beef very lean and tender. We keep trying new crepes and haven't been disappointed yet. The decor and ambiance makes you feel like you're in France. No need to buy airline tickets!
