My wife and I eat here often. The food is excellent, and so is the value. We can have a very nice/delicious Italian dinner for 2, including wine and salads (most entrees include salads) for just over $40. A really nice date restaurant at an affordable price.

Usually I love the world famous Veal Parm. But this weekend it was only average. It was not piping hot and very little cheese. Our friends had martinis which were not done correctly and they were replaced but still charged us for the original. Water supply was good.

Stopped in for dinner whilst visiting the city. Had gnocchi with marinara sauce - took a while to arrive but was a good sized portionand was very tasty. Also had a pizza which had a pesto base topping with tomatoes - again very tasty. Our water glasses were kept topped up without asking. Would visit again if we are in the city

THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by barbara p (1 review) We found this terrific restaurant on TravelZoo and had the most amazing dinner EVER. It is the best (authentic) Italian cuisine we have found in Philadelphia (the veal is to die for!! and the tilapia was excellent!!! Portions are very generous) The owner, Al, extended a genuine and warm appreciation for our coming and the warm and attentive service by Francis and Stephen made us feel like we had found new friends. What a refreshing experience to find a new restaurant where the food is wonderful and the staff and service REALLY make you feel like they are so happy to have you. This restaurant is the model for what dining out should be! We will recommend La Fourno to our friends and co-workers with the highest accolades!!!!! Bravo, Al!

This restaurant is famous for its' wood fired pizza oven. It tends to be busy on the weekends and service can be slow. Several local theaters offer a package which includes dinner at La Fourno. As the night gets later the crowd gets younger.

We had a great dinner at La Fourno a few weeks ago. Atmosphere was wonderful upstairs, our waiter was on point with everything we needed, and of course the food was magnifico! As Italian Americans we always search out great Italian food when we travel. The pizza was amazing from the brick oven and our pastas were delicious! We will definitely be back.

Well, after our first trip was so great, we decided another visit was necessary and we were not disappointed. The food was great again, and the service was exceptional. The prices are very reasonable, and portion size very nice. There is no outside dining and the bar selection is very limited, but my wife enjoyed a specialty Maple flavored cocktail which was excellent. The whiskey sour in a Mason jar was also pretty good! The staff is very friendly and more than willing to accommodate any needs you may have. Francis is a great Manager/Host also. Don't forget the cannoli which is fresh made to order, not pulled off a shelf. If you check, Groupon is listing this place with a price fix dinner that is a fantastic bargain. We will be back again in the very near future!

Definitely worth a visit! The owner came by twice to make sure we were happy. Everything was super fresh!!! The basil, herbs, infused oils - all excellent. Delicious salads, pizza made in front of your eyes, superb veal parmigiana, reasonable prices. This is a small restaurant with perhaps 10-12 tables. Parking is an issue in this area. We could not find on street kiosk parking so we used a lot nearby, $10 for 2 hours. A most satisfying meal, casual atmosphere.

We went to La Fourno before seeing a show. The service was great - very friendly staff. My friends and I all got pizza and we were all happy with what we got. I would definately go there again if in the area.

I absolutely love this place and visited often when I lived in Philadelphia. I returned with my husband over Memorial day weekend and we had the most amazing service. Everyone was friendly and the food was so delicious - the manager remembered me and it felt incredible to be back at a place that feels like home. I highly recommend this restaurant for the delicious food, ambiance, service - you can't go wrong.

Some friends & I had dinner at La Fourno one evening. The bruschetta was tasty. The side salad was good. The butternut squash ravioli was ok but needed a sauce. It was presented with a small amount of what tasted like cinnamon or nutmeg. It seemed to be more like a dessert course than a main entree. Dessert was a cannoli & I enoyed it. Our server did a wonderful job. I thought the pricing was a little expensive though. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant.

My wife and a veal & sage ravioli which she is still talking about. Daughter-in-law had baked rigatoni with Al's mama meatball which she raved about. Son had shrimp risotto which I noticed he ate with gusto and I had a simple capellini with olive oil & garlic. All of the pasta seemed to be homemade as it was delicious and perfectly prepared. If you want walk around the neighborhood and take in tattoo parlors, adult entertainment stores. and a variety of ethnic restaurants. It appears that the area is being gentrified and still very eclectic. Reminded me of Olde Town in Chicago back in the 60's

Stopped here for an impromptu dinner while visiting Philly and wandering around the Italian section. The whole experience was a delight, from the friendly and excellent service, the quality and taste of the food, and the intimate, non-rushed atmosphere! Especially recommend saving some room for dessert---had sfogliatelle for the first time and it was incredible. Sort of place I would regularly go to if it was in my hometown!

Whether you are looking for pizza or fine northern Italian cuisine, you have come to the right place. This restaurant serves absolutely the best pizza I have ever tasted. The crust is exquisitely thin and delicious and you may choose from a large selection of gourmet toppings. The dinner menu offers a marvelous variety of dishes from pastas to seafood, veal, chicken and beef prepared in the northern Italian tradition. Desserts are a must, even if you don't usually indulge. Try the "Dark side of the moon". You will thank me. Best of all is the friendly service from the wait staff as well as from Al, the owner and manager. It just doesn't get any better than this!

I visit this place often and love the food here. I recommend this place to anyone that's visiting Philly. I would personally recommend the Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken. Save room for the dessert menu. The service is excellent and the servers are top notch. I have been a repeat customer for 5 years and would recommend it to anyone!

Food was average or a bit better. There is a take out pizza area in the front and tables in the rear which look like a luncheonette. Not wild about South Street after dark as it can get a bit crazy. Fine place for a quick meal and or pizza, nothing more.

Very good, above average portioned meals. Servers were attentive and friendly. It can be very busy. Reservations recommended.

I went with a couple of friends later on a Saturday night. The food was pretty good; my chicken Valdostana was well-prepared, and my friend said his shrimp scampi was good (my other friend did not like her gnocchi, but she's on the picky side). I wasn't feeling well (not related to the food), so I went upstairs to use the restroom. My friends reported that while I was away from the table, the manager came over and rudely accused me of skipping out on the bill. I was shocked, as I would never even consider doing something like that, and it made me feel like some kind of low-class criminal. I'd read some other disparaging reviews about the manager, but I usually take these with a grain of salt, but in this case, they were correct. I wouldn't go back there.

Best pizza in town!

Real Italian food. From Panini's to Scampi Voted best of Philly Veal parmigiana Always a warm welcome Staff make you feel right at home A visit to your table by the manager assures that you are in good hands Try a pizza as a starter from a wood burning oven then order a delicious entree and dessert Meals like Mama used to make!!! Make sure you say hello to Alan, Francis and Anna too

Made reservations for a Small Family Occasion-We were special from the time we walked in. Tourists and Locals are all treated the same. Al, the proprietor never ceases to do something special. You are welcomed to bring your own wine on 2 days(call and check). Try the Polenta with mushroom sauce and the Talapia always a favorite.Always a favorite on South Street.

This restaurant has the best pizza around. The food is excellent, as is the service. Friendly and pleasant. All the restaurant needs is good Italian music by Connie Francis!

My nephews and I used to be regulars but haven't been there as much recently. The food and service remain top notch. Were all a big fan of the mussels.

We didn't expect to find such an upscale place on South Street but La Fourno is a true gem. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were just right, the atmosphere was very cozy and comfortable, and our waiter really knew his stuff. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and funny. We had a really romantic date night and would definitely go back for more.

After reading TripAdvisor looking for a non-chain Pizza place for a delivery, I decided to order from La Fourno based on the reviews. The pizza arrived on time (45 minutes) and the driver had no issues finding the hotel. I ordered a large Pepperoni & Sausage with a Sprite. It thankfully came with paper plates and napkins, even a plastic fork & knife. It arrived hot, but was very bland. The sausage wasn't very good and I ended up picking it off. The pepperoni was cut extremely thin and I couldn't really taste it at all. The crust was fine and the sauce average. So I'd recommend skipping La Fourno if you are looking for a local pizza delivery. Not even as good as Dominos and a hefty $26 for a large pizza and drink.

We always enjoy La Fourno when we stop in for dinner...the food is consistently very good as is the service....try the veal marsala, my favorite...my son seems to always get the chicken parmagiana or a pasta dish....all have been yummy and generous in size

Great Italian food and service on South Street. Had a marvelous dinner at reasonable prices. Pizza looked great too, next time I'll try that !

We choose this restaurant based on the reviews, and were disappointed. Except by the cannoli. We had an appetizer of bread and cheese, which was mediocre. Then we had two pizzas, which we also deemed mediocre. We each had a couple of beers, and I had a cappuccino. Bill was $70. This was a hole in the wall type place in terms of decor, which was fine, and the wait staff was friendly. We thought it was a 5/10, possibly a 6.

We went only because we received a Groupon as a gift as I was very skeptical about getting a decent meal from this part of South Street. I am glad to say I was wrong! We were treated with pleasantries and smiles from hello to goodbye. The restaurant was clean. The drinks were well made, although they lost a point for not carrying my favorite vodka. We had the cheese/chick pea bread platter for appetizer which was good, although the bread had a unique taste. My fiance had Mama's pasta and meatballs that was excellent and I had a stuffed chicken dish which was very good as well. We shared a cannoli for dessert that had a terrific filling but could have had a denser crust in my opinion, though my fiance disagreed. All in all a great experience, one I certainly did not expect. Worth a try.

Visting my daughter in Philly this weekend and lucked into finding this place for dinner Saturday night (Valentine's Day). We had no reservations, family of 4, and the manager was very accomodating getting us a table. The food and service were wonderful. I had the veal and sage ravioli and they were delicious but I do think my husband's lobster ravioli were even better. The crust on their pizza was perfect and great dessert. Would definitely recommend!

La Fourno is the only nice place on South Street. Its like a haven amongst the crowds outside. South Street is pretty rough and grimy. The service was lovely but the food was just average.

Had dinner there last week and I was very disappointed. My wife and I have been going to this place for many years. However, this time the service was sorely lacking and the pizza, usually good, was below par. Perhaps because I was alone, but the waiter simply didn't perform. The pizza crust was just flabby and the toppings were not great. I had anchovies; they seemed too old. Not enough turnover? I may go back to see if the experience was a fluke, but not too soon, especially in a restaurant rich city.

Was in town to visit son and celebrate husband's 4th of July birthday; had been out all day, was exhausted, and didn't want to go back out for dinner; had a taste for Italian and chose a restaurant that was near the Embassy Suites hotel that delivered. My husband enjoyed the pizza, I liked the shrimp fettuccini, though it was a tad bit greasy from my perspective; my son enjoyed his pasta, my daughter did not really care for the linguini bolognese she ordered (said it was somewhat bland); salad was good, none of us cared much for the bread; all in all, glad this restaurant delivered, saved the day for us. :o)

The calamari was average but everything else was excellent. This is a great place to eat and the service was really good.

We stopped by La Fourno last evening for dinner. The food was very good, fresh and flavorful. The wait staff is among the best in Philadelphia. They are helpful, friendly and attentive.... no attitude. It is hard to find a restaurant where you get good food, great service all at very reasonable prices.......... but this is one of those finds. The atmosphere is casual and friendly..... relax and enjoy.

I purchased a groupon or living social deal thinking what the heck lets try a new place. I am sooo happy I did. Even though parking is a nightmare and making a reservation would be wise...we lucked out and only had to wait may 5-7 minutes. The food was phenomenal. Our waiter went above and beyond to make sure our first visit was not our last. My friend said it was the BEST chicken parm she had ever had! My meal was also very tasty. Its worth the hassel of finding parking.

We visited La Fourno to celebrate a family birthday, and had a wonderful evening. The service was fantastic - not hoverning, just right. A waiter who should be a professional singer even sang Happy Birthday! Pizza was very good, as was the calamari. Home made limoncello. Atmosphere was perfect. Reasonable too.

I have eaten at La Fourno for may years - about once per month. It has been consistently superior. I have taken friends, family, students, coworkers, and neighbors there for celebrations, dinners, and lunches. Each time is a memorable experience. EVERYONE who has gone with me returns on their own.

At first glance, thought it was just a pizza place but it is a very cute restaurant. Very good prices for the amount of food you get. Got calamari appetizer to split with 4 of us, plenty. Waiter gave us a free salad which was small but very fresh and enjoyable. Meals we got were; gnocchi with meatballs, chicken parm, veal parm, and the veal chop special. Portions were very large but some how we eat every bite. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals! We did get dessert and waiter put a candle on my daughter’s cannoli for her birthday. Also got the house dessert, Crepe with fruit & Nutella which loved good, my daughter and husband liked it very much. Our water glasses were never empty. Waiter could not have been nicer. Other people working there were also really friendly and nice. If you are looking for good Italian food and a relaxed and enjoyable evening, this is a good place to consider.

We are from South Florida and have dined at La Fourno many times over the years. Can’t imagine better Italian food! We chose La Fourno for our daughter’s Law School graduation party last week. Our 30 guests are still raving about the food and the service. We were concerned about planning the party “long distance”. The owner, AL, was totally responsive to all of our requests and was in constant contact with us via email and phone. We had several guests with “special food needs “and these folks were treated like royalty. The only complaint we had was “the food was so good that we over-ate” The awards they have received over the years are well deserved. We would recommend La Fourno for a party of two or a party of 30… and anything in between!

Had a Groupon, went and tried La Fourno. The website clearly says "compliment your meal with a selection from our wine list, or BYOB!" It DOESN'T tell you there's a ridiculous $20.00 upcharge to enjoy your own wine. Very bad form. (Corking fees are an occasional evil, but $20.00!!?? WAY over the top). Bread was hot and served with oil; good but a little light on taste (get used to this theme). I had a very good (but unusual) Caesar Salad, which included tomatoes, sliced raw onion, black olives, and cucumber. In a Caesar? (None that I've ever had). The Groupon deal included "one antipasti or a 10-inch specialty pizza (up to $10.95 value)" but we weren't offered anything from the appetizer page, and were limited to a choice of ONLY three pizzas, even though there were many others that were under the $10.95 threshold. The Bianca Neve pizza was good, but again a bit bland. Finally, we both tried the "award winning" veal parmigiana, which was slightly above average, but far from special. Oddly, it was served on a small bed of pasta with a sparse garlic and oil glaze, and not a red sauce. (At $28.95 on the menu, this is to be avoided) I'm generously giving a 2 star review here (but will be crankier with my Groupon comments)... this place wasn't bad, but the exorbitant corking fee and the appetizer limitation are customer service issues that are cause for concern. It was empty at 7:30 on a Thursday night; maybe that's an indication that things aren't quite right here? There are definitely better places to go, nearby.

Last Saturday night my friends and I visited a taste of heaven in our new found favorite restaurant "LA Fourno"....The food was superb, cooked and seasoned to perfection that left the 4 of us clearing our plates and it was not because the portions were small! They were very generous....The food was as wonderful as the service. The wait Staff esp. Steve and Francis were very professional, knowlegable and friendly. We purchased a coupon through Travelzoo to find this gem and even greeted warmly by the owner Al. Al should be appalauded for his fine establishment that made it to the top of our list! Anne R.

We were walking down South Street and saw this place, the waiter that greeted us was polite at first. The ambience and music is nice I will point out. The only other good parts were the small salad, and the bread appetizer we ordered. That's when it stopped. I had ordered a chicken parm panini but the waiter started talking while I was talking so he said I ordered just chicken parm, when I corrected him he said that I never said panini. If he didn't talk over me he would have heard I said panini. My boyfriend ordered the Romano panini that had the option of coming with prosciutto ... The waiter did not understand his own menu and said they were two different panini's ... He ended up getting a "panini" with just bread and a lump of prosciutto. When we pointed out that the menu said this came with mozzarella and tomato he still didn't understand took it back to the kitchen and just had them sprinkle some cheese on it and place a few spinach leaves and brought it back, this was after he said they would make him another one but we definitely got the same sandwich back since my boyfriend had taken a bite out of it. It was awful. We then got the bill (these are hand written bills) and the waiter tried to charge us for an actual chicken parm dish not panini which is a good $8 more. Long story short this waiter has no idea what he is doing and the Panini's even mine were bad...we are not going back.

This was our first visit. We went for an early dinner after an afternoon matinee at the Academy of Music - a nice brisk walk. We were the only guests at 4:30 in the afternoon which is usually a little off-putting, but the host Francis, gave us a hearty welcome and put us at ease. We ordered a grilled calamari appetizer (no breading - yeah!) which was served whole, rather than already sliced and was nicely done without any rubbery texture you sometimes get. The bread was absolutely delicious, with oil for dipping. We thought the salads that came with our dinner were over-dressed.. Our entrees were excellent. My daughter had the penne al a vodka and commented that she was very pleased because at some places that dish is too salty. At La Fourno's it was just right. I had the Pollo Salsiccia, which is chicken with sausage and sun dried tomotoes in a brown sauce that was rich but not swimming which is terrific. All the serviers were male, which is not unusual for South Philly and we were please with ours. By the way, we must have walked quiclly - another 30 guests arrived durng the first half hour we were there!

We just happen to stroll in on a Saturday afternoon. The place was empty but charming. The server was great. We had a delicious Antipasto Salad and split the fra Diavolo pizza. The pizza had a light crispy crust and was just the right size to share. We give 2 thumbs up.

Reviewed the restaurant over a year ago, and once again, the experience was top rate! The staff is very friendly and the food as always was very good. Highly recommend the veal parmigiana, and also love their caesar salad. The wait staff and owner always stop by to engage you in conversation and will do everything possible to make sure your dining experience is first rate!

Was there with a party of 7 for dinner (family and friends). The food was absolutely delicious - starting with the soft warm bread served at table, then the veal and sage ravioli, which literally melt in your mouth. The portion size is not huge, but every single bite was heaven. The menu offers many varied gourmet-quality options. However, the waiter was very accommodating to my 11-year old picky-eater sister. The place has a very small face towards the street, but is actually quite deep and at least two stories (I think there might have been a third floor too) tall, with additional seating on the second floor, were we sat next to the fireplace on a cold december night. The restaurant's facade is nothing fancy, so if I were walking on the street, I might have not walked it if it weren't for the fact that I had not picked the place. Now, I look up the restaurant here and see how well-reviewed it was. It really is no surprise.

Had a hard time finding a reservation for Valentine's Day but based on the reviews here selected La Fuorno. Great choice. Delicious Italian food (wife is Italian), nice ambience, superb staff from the host to the waiter (to the owner?)), and reasonable prices.

A taste of Italy on South Street. Staff is friendly Pizza and breads are cooked Ina wood burning oven. Great thin crusted pizzas. Warmed Breads served with a side of olive oil. Entrees include pasta dishes to fish. Have a cannoli for dessert. Enjoy your Italian getaway

Very upset with the way I was treated at thus restaurant and all I did was try to make a reservation. Buyer beware when it comes to purchasing a Groupon for this restaurant. My advice is not to buy one at all! I bought a gift certificate on Groupon knowing I would be out of town for a conference and would be able to use it however, was told "I'm sorry we have already taken our maximum number of Groupon's for that day." I called 1 day in advance as well not the day of. Then I tried to explain I was out of town&wouldn't be able to use it if I couldn't that day once again was told "I'm sorry no exceptions can be made" by the manager. Very crappy customer service if you ask me. There was nothing on Groupon stating that there was a limit on the number of Groupon's that could be used for a given day plus I was an out of town visitor. Hopefully this place won't post on Groupon again&if they do buyer beware!

After a morning of hiking we went to south street for a late lunch. La Fourno caught our eye so we gave it a try. Francis warmly greeted us as we were seated. The food, wine & draft beers were delicious and plentiful! The atmosphere is nice casual, the prices very fair and service attentive. I would definitely go back again.

On a recent trip to Philly my family decided to try your restaurant. My husband and I shared a caesar salad that was delicious and then enjoyed the personal pizzas. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Very solid! I'd definitely come back! Nice little place I found thanks to Yelp! Owner is friendly guy with a big Philly accent who may greet you while you enter. The downstairs is cozy and inviting and just what I was looking for. After my mother was done flirting with the owner, we sat down and had a delicious margherita pizza as an appetizer. Good choice for starters! I really like that type of Americanized Southern Italian sweet sauce which smothered the pizza! The homemade linguini was excellent and cooked well! Bolognese was solid, chicken parm nicely cooked and my mother's caprese salad was as good as the owner said it would be. Also, she had a bowl of lentil soup that could kick the pants off nearly any other lentil soup. Sir Francis the waiter was friendly, helpful and not overbearing. Definitely worth your time for very decent Italian in a city full of solid competitors! Prices are just right as well.

I've eatin here for many years and thought its time to write review. Although this Italian restaurant has changed owners, I assure you nothing has changed, food still taste great and if you see a how at the playhouse, you get a discount. Pizza is in my opinion the absolute best I've had, it's thin crust authentic brick oven and you'll be wanting more. pies are personal size only. the pastas are great filled with flavor. You will not be disappointed. A great romantic place and upstairs can cater for a private party. reservations, yes. walk-in welcome. wine and beers available.

Surprised at our matinee lunch on a Saturday prior to theatre : food was much better than expected and service was perfect! Bravo!

I bought a travelzoo voucher for dinner and wine from this place and ended up enjoying my visit way more than expected. We made reservations for 745 on a Friday night and were seated at the time promised. The downstairs area seemed pretty busy, but we were seated upstairs and were able to enjoy a nice dinner without a ton of noise. The bread is fantastic! I had the penne alla vodka with shrimp and stuffed myself before I hit the half way point. The sauce was perfect. My husband got the gnocchi gorgonzola and was likewise stuffed early on. This sauce was perhaps a little thick, but delicious and well suited for the gnocchi. Our server was awesome and provided a perfect level of attention and conversation throughout our meal. It was a great find and we will definitely be coming back anytime we are in the area!

La Fourno was highly recommended by the hotel that we were staying at in Philly. The meal could not have been better!. We enjoyed the melon appetizer; the salads were fresh and well-prepared. One of their specialties is veal parmesan which my wife ordered. It was superb! I enjoyed my chicken masala,as well. The side of pasta was cooked to perfection. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Thanks, Al for a great dinner experience!

I recently planned my boyfriend's surprise 35th birthday dinner and la fourno was wonderful in every way! Al was a pleasure to deal with, from meeting with me in person to go over the menu, texting with any questions/issues, to being in on the secret when we arrived after everyone else for our 'reservation'. The upstairs dining room was perfect for our party of 16 people. The servers were extremely attentive and the food was fantastic!! Our friends are still commenting to me about how great everything was. I highly recommend to anyone looking to have a group out to dinner, or even someone just looking for some delicious, authentic Italian food.

Great food and friendly staff. We are vegetarian and there was plenty of vegetarian choice. We had the eggplant parmigiana, penne pomodoro, cheese ravioli and the lava cake to finish off - all very good. The only thing I would suggest for a change is less cheese on the eggplant. The place is BYOB but they do serve wines by the glass and cocktails. Will definitely visit again!

Was up in Philly for a high school regatta for my daughter and some of her friends. They wanted PASTA! Found this place on-line with great reviews. We were not disappointed. Parking can be a challenge but even if you have to park a couple of blocks away, it's a fun neighborhood so the walk isn't half bad. One of the signature items for this place is their garlic bread. Just GREAT! Hot out of the oven. The pizza is good, but I had the Linguini & Meatballs Marinara. Good sized serving, delicious and satisfying. The food is good, but even better was the personal touch we felt from our server and the rest of the crew here. Overall a good meal at a fair price.

Others have written the appropriate superlatives on this South Philly site, but the service was such a relief as the waitress who was charming did not feel that she had to come over and interrupt us every few seconds. This unobtrusiveness did not mean a lack of caring. The huge portions meant we had three bags to take home and she counseled us carefully NOT to microwave the leftovers. "If you do that, you lose the sauce, "she said intently, "Put it in the pan, add what you like a little water, oil, butter and then slowly heat it." She was right and La Fourno is a fabulous find. Margherita pizza, Penne a La vodka, Gnocchi: it's all good especially ion BYOB night.

I have to say that I wasn't very impressed. The food was OK....the portion sizes were extremely small and we had a groupon. It seems like since they knew you had a groupon, everything was much much smaller portions. The only reason why I gave this 2 stars and not 1 star was because the service was very good. They were attentive and nice. The food though....nothing to even consider talking about. Will not be returning. I would say, dont cut down your portion sizes that much since you know it is a groupon. We still paid $39 for that. Wasn't really a deal at all...

Philadelphia has such an abundance of great restaurants. I first visited with my daughter in the summer of 2012 during college orientation. She now calls it "our restaurant," We returned last weekend with my father as well, and were not disappointed. First the trio of Bruschetta, traditional, eggplant, and the sublime, strawberries and goat cheese. is fantastic. The pastas were delicious, and my chicken dish with a side of spaghettini with wonderfully seasoned vegetables was light and flavorful. It left us room to share a tiramasu which was a perfect ending to a meal. The space is small and unassuming, and the service on both occasions was warm and knowledgeable. Our waiter from our first visit over a year ago, recognized us as well. La Fourno will be a frequent stop on our visits to Philadelphia.

Service was very quick and friendly. We ordered the farinatta bread appetizer, which was absolutely delicious!! We also ordered pizzas - overall, the brick fired bread/dough was amazing - I would highly recommend it. We also had a canoli, which was so good, I had to order extra to-go. Our waiter was quick and attentive. We will definitely eat here again.

Authentic pizza doesn't have to be expensive, after all it's just dough, tomato and cheese. The pizza here costs about 7 or 8 dollars, but it tastes like it was made in Naples. Delicious. My cousin and I had the marinara pizza which was thin and crisp and perhaps one of the best pizzas this Italian if 68 years has ever had. We also shared a serving if pasta putanesca without the anchovies. It was quite good. The complimentary antipasta with balsamic vinegar went well with t h e grilled shrimp appetizer we shared. For dessert we had a coconut snowball which was vanilla cake with butter cream icing and very fresh coconut. It was good, but at $8 I thought it was overpriced by a factor of 2. Coffee was good as was service. I recommend this restaurant. Just be careful about parking. Philadelphia is notorious for confusing parking signs and diligent ticket writers and tow trucks.

This was a cozy, friendly, homey Italian resteraunt on south Street. The food was great - Not ginormous portions of food - which - lets face it - should be a thing of the past with the obesity facing this country.. We went around 6pm on a Saturday night and the place was crowded - never-the less we got lucky and got a table right away without a reservation but it is proabably advisable to call ahead. Our waiter was a doll - very friendly- Service with a smile all the way. The food was very reasonably priced and delicious. Everyone loved their meals. Would definelty return.

I went here with a friend, who had been here before and wanted to go again while we were in the area, and it was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. I'm really glad she had me go, because it's definitely a place I'll be stopping at again. The place is small, in an intimate way, and we got there at 5:00pm and it was nice and quiet. They had just opened, I think, but people were already sitting and getting settled for dinner, so they aren't a tardy restaurant. The tables and silverware were nice and clean, and the staff was really personable, helpful, and attentive. The one woman they had filling up water glasses was VERY attentive, which I appreciated because I was totally parched and only wanted water to drink, anyway. The food itself, I felt, was fairly priced. We spent about $10 - $13 each. I asked for a personal sized basil pesto pizza, and it came out to be six VERY generous slices. Furthermore, it was so, so good, and I have been talking about it way too much to people. My friend asked for chicken penne pasta, which isn't on their menu, but she received a heaping portion - so much so that even after eating her fill, she was maybe halfway through. My biggest regret is staying in a hotel that didn't have a fridge in the room, because we couldn't store leftovers! Our waiter did get a little distant with us towards the end - a couple or two came in about 15 minutes after us, and got their checks and left before we did. We were on a tight schedule so this was a little irritating, and they really tried to push dessert on us, but it wasn't enough to hinder how much we left for a tip or our experience overall. The food was really, really delicious, and came in huge portions, so the cost seemed justified. Staff is very kind and upbeat. The location is tucked away nicely, so there isn't too much background noise going on. Would definitely love to go again.

What a surprise!! This restaurant is a beautiful renovated row home. I was there last Sat night. I was running late & of course, finding parking was not an easy feat. But, there is a lot at 6th & Bainbridge ($20). The owner told my friend, "Don't worry, we won't give away the table." I was so appreciative & it even became a BIG joke once I arrived. The food: very tasty. I ordered the Zuppa Di Pesce, my friend had a salmon dish. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Ordered calamari as an appetizer. I saw pizzas being served, they looked really good. The staff is super-friendly, they are professional & make you feel right at home, not "order-taker" style. The place is small but I never felt overcrowded. They also have room upstairs for bigger parties. The bathrooms are extremely clean. I can't wait to come back with the family, because they make you feel like family. Thank you La Fourno! If you need the website address: http://www.lafourno.com/

I grew up in New Jersey so eating Italian food is second nature. La Fourno is up there with the best I've had. Traditional family owned restaurant, great unpretentious atmosphere, the owner Al comes around to every table and the waiters are friendly and enjoyable. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and the large sized portions. The grilled calamari was prepared perfectly and the clams & mussels over linguini was a delight. My wife loved the rigatoni porcinni (the demi rigatoni not the big one) and you absolutely have to get the baby Arugula salad. We now live in the land of Starbuck's but this was a real cappucino. And a stroll on South Street after a meal is a must.

This was a repeat visit. Both times the food and service was excellent. Al, the owner, made us feel welcome. Try the pizza patate as a large shared appetizer or as a main course. The crust, dressed sweet ricotta, was enhanced by the perfectly salted sliced potatoes on top. The salmon was moist and the al dente side of pasta with garlic and olive oil was a tasty complement. The homemade Sfogliatelle, pastry filled with orange flavored ricotta cheese baked in their wood burning oven and finished with chocolate syrup and powdered sugar was perfect. It was not too sweet and was a perfect way to end the meal. The glass of wine was larger than what is poured at other restaurants. It was a wonderful experience, and we'll be back.

We ate here after my daughter's graduation in May. It was loud for the older folks among us, but the food was good and the atmosphere was very pleasant. While my daughter was opening graduation gifts, the owner came over and offered his congratulations and a gift as well! We had a great time and were all happy with our meals - not fancy but very satisfying comfort food.

My wife and I decided to try this place out after seeing it listed on Groupon. We always like to try new places when we come into the city for theater night. We were greeted by Francis the Manager who was very entertaining. We each had a drink, me a draft Peroni beer and my wife a specialty cocktail which was very good. We each had a salad (Caesar and Arugula). The dressing on the Arugula was a balsamic which was outstanding, and the Caesar was one of the best I've ever had. The next course is a 10" pizza for two, our choice the Margarita, which was excellent! My wife had the stuffed Chicken with Marsala sauce and instead of past had Broccoli which was cooked perfect and tasty. The chicken was out of this world! I had the Veal Parm, which is advertised as the best in Philadelphia. It was served over a bed of linguine with a small amount of gravy, but they were more than happy to provide extra. The portion was not as big as some other restaurants, but it was very good and cooked to perfection. For desert, we split a cannoli, which I watched them fill and prepare to order. It too was excellent. I also had a glass of red wine with dinner. With the Groupon, the cost of the meal before tip was about $75.00. The bar selection is not very big at all, but perfect for our needs. The building is small and only seats about 35 people, so I would suggest a reservation. It was busy during the entire time we were there, and the service by our waiter "M" was excellent. Overall, the value is very good, but I feel the Veal Parm dinner was very pricy at $28.00. Still, we will be making a return trip here in the near future!

This used to be a decent pizza place 15 years ago and more, but since the most recent owner/management took over (in the last five-seven years?) more and more the focus seems to be on higher priced (more profitable) entrees. Problem is, they don't really know how to cook them very well at all. They used to serve a delicious green salad, too, under the original ownership, who worked hard to create a popular little place on South Street. That salad has been replaced by a much more economical (profitable) and uninspired medley of things, like much of the rest of La Fourno. Where are the Kalamata olives? Where is the red onion? Gone. The menu stated that La Fourno had something which was voted "Best Veal Parmigiana". Sorry, La Fourno, but your own votes shouldn't count. The veal I received was tasteless and bland; a cheesy mass of pounded flat meat with (thankfully) just a small dollop of the insipid thick canned tomato puree. This item was laid over a tiny bed of plain, cold linguini. Service seemed rushed and, like the offerings, not very good. Awful. Truly awful experience. This joint is strictly for tourists now.

We went for a pre-holiday family meal - 4 adults and a toddler. From the minute we sat down the staff was friendly and so sweet to my little niece. We had a Groupon and the table had ceased salad and a delicious innovative version of Italian wedding soup. We had the salmon and linguini special- perfectly prepared with light fresh flavors. Gorgonzola gnocchi the pasta was light as a pillow and the sauce was great and no too heavy. We had the amazing Fruitti de mari my favorite with a ton of mixed seafood and a delicious sauce. Finally we had their famous veal park - good not great. For dessert the house special which my family said was worth the time to wait as they prepare it and a delicious cannoli. They even took my niece around to take orders when she got fussy and cheered her right up - she lived them! Only complaint - we had a Groupon so we only paid taxes and too but it looked like the bill was $201 which seemed pricey for the above food and 4 glasses of wine. I would still recommend!

Visited Phila. a couple weeks ago, and had a great dinner here. When in Phila., I like to head for 9th street/market area for a little location and atmosphere with my Italian food. Sunday at 6 PM was surprisingly busy. The condescending hostess at Dante & Luigi's sent us away until 8:30, as did the downright surly host at Ralph's. Even worse at Villa di Roma. My enchantment with 9th Street was dissipating, so we headed to LaFourno based on a recommendation from the Alexander Inn. I normally avoid South St. as too tourist-ey/trendy, but we were going by it, and we were TOO hungry (and frozen) to keep walking, so we gave it a try. The host could tell we were cold, tired, and starving, and seated us immediately at a table in the front while they prepared one in the back.We were brought to it quickly. Our waiter couldn't have been nicer, was consistently attentive, yet never intrusive. After an appetizer (couldn't remember what it was called) of VERY thinly sliced beef with cheese, nice fresh salads were brought out. Gnocchi with alfredo/pesto were wonderful, as were the veal ravioli. Pasta had enough sauce(delicous!), but wasn't swimming in it. Nice, sauteed green vegetables too. Our waiter recommended a Montepulciano wine, which was excellent, and NOT the most expensive one on the menu. We didn't have room for desert, but saw some nice ones going by. Everything was served promptly, and we were never begging for water refills either. Seating was on the cozy side, but you're in a converted row house, so that's how it is. There is an upstairs room for private parties/overflow, that looked quite nice, and seemed more spacious. Probably a great spot for a large group. Great food, wonderful service, and paying for it won't break you either. Next time in Phila., I won't bother with 9th Street or the Italian market, I'll just come here.

Though we don't dine in Philly often (mostly come for the bars ) have been here twice and would not hesitate to come back again . The service was personal and the food was outstanding. The only reason they don't get a fifth star is that while their food prices are reasonable, their wine selection is limited and overpriced. I would definitely like to come on a weeknight but that is unlikely.

Every time me and my girlfriend go to penns landing or south street we always make a visit to la fourno.the food is always delicious, fresh and consistent. The service is outstanding.Francis makes the visit so pleasurable and does a fantastic job.we always look foward to see him.this is the best restaurant on south street.if you love Italian food this is the place to go to.

...and my aunt should have let me drive so I could park the right way on South Street (apparently missing 4 easy parallel parking spots was enough to drive the entire care crazy). We went here at like 1:30/2 on a Sunday afternoon and it was completely dead. Better for us!! We walked in, were seated and had a blast with our Italian server, mexican cooks and Filipino manager (their words, not mine!). I got the gnocchi with marinara...delicious!!! My uncle got the linguini with pesto which was amazballs, mom got the angel hair with garlic. THanks to mom, I had her leftovers for lunch the next day- still delicious!! We even ended up with a free bottle of wine when the server heard I graduated med school and saw we weren't drinking yet. I can't complain about that one!

The environment was great ( no annoying music in the background making you eat fast haha); food was delicious; service was good!

We were a party of 6 with no reservation. While they got the table ready the proprieter sorted out drinks for us and was incredibly friendly. We felt like we'd been there many times before, and as he chatted we felt more and more that we had made a great decision to choose this restaurant which was close to a friend that we were visiting from out of town. We were seated upstairs and the atmosphere was fun. The staff were all excelletn and friendly and seemed genuine in their desire to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. The food was good, hearty and hot. It was tasty and good value for money. If we are back in that area we would go again. Our friend who lives there will certainly take more people there.

This tiny place on South St. is TERRIFIC! Not to be missed.

You must go to La Fourna when visiting Philly. They have the BEST VEAL PARMIGIANA ... EVER!!! Include you dinner with the Homemade Italian Margarita!! And to top everything off, end your dinner with the DELECTABLE, FLAKLY, Crepe made with Strawberries and topped with Chocolate. I tell you, LaFourna knows how to please!! I can't wait to visit Philly again. This restaurant is the FIRST STOP!!! :)

Best Italian food in Philly! Great staff! Highly recommended. The salads are delicious, thr pasta is fresh, and the sauces are outta this world.

12 tables in a modern Italian décor with attentive wait staff. I sat at the Tara and Jason table; they eat here regularly. I ordered the Espresso Mocha – it was smooth. Great drink to have if you are going out clubbing later. I had one of the specials – Tilapia with fresh linguine and a side order of spinach. The tilapia was lightly breaded and by far the star of the plate. The pasta was properly cooked and the spinach was scrumptious. La Fourno dessert was bellissimo! Kudos to the Chef for everything I ate!

In Philly for the first time and this restaurant was recommended by the place I was staying at. I was so impressed. It was very affordable, the food was great and the service was superb. We felt very welcomed and in fact were welcomed by the owner. I was contemplating having some bread as an entree and was so glad I didn't as we were served not only complimentary bread but also a complimentary salata before our main course. Both my husband and I had seafood which was beautifully cooked and very tasty. The only downside was that we dined on a Saturday night and the restaurant is only BYOB from Tuesday to Friday. On Saturday there is $20 corkage per bottle. That's okay, the wine was nice and not over priced but not a good range with only four whites to choose from. Nevertheless highly recommended. I would definitely go back if I am ever here again.

Let me start by saying categorically that we ate the night after dining here at another highly recommended downtown Philadelphia Italian restaurant that was twice as expensive but only half as good. We enjoyed a good glass of red wine and ordered an arugula salad that was topped with garlic and was beyond delicious. We then shared a pizza (the name escapes me) that had red peppers and capers (being vegetarians we left off the anchovies) and it also was extremely tasty. The restaurant staff was most pleasant and we left the restaurant completely satisfied.

We had a last-minute need to find a place for 12 rowdy hungry guys to eat in Center City Philadelphia, and our hotel concierge set up at La Fourno. They booked the group room on the 2nd floor for us--and it was beautiful indeed but the most memorable thing was the service and the outright friendliness we were treated to. I know (very well) that the attitude you give out creates the attitude you get back, and we're a friendly bunch--but the way the staff (as well as the owner) took care of us and had fun with us all was siimply outstanding. And the food--absolutely spot-on. Primarily traditional, well-loved Italian foods cooked absolutely perfectly, including the best meat balls this side of my Nonna's (I could feel her nodding approval from heaven!). We will DEFINITELY be back. And everyone else should GO! GO NOW! (But go HUNGRY!)

After the birth of our newest grandchild at pennsylvania Hospital, we walked over to South Street to find lunch. I had checked out the reviews on tripadvisor previously and chose La Fourno based on the reviews. The reviews were right. This place is superb. I had the best caesar salad with chicken. The dressing is outstanding. The vegetables were crisp and the grilled chicken was warm. The bread was hot and tasty. My spouse had apanini which was too large to pick up. It was also excellent. The owner takes pride in his restaurant. I will be back. The pasta looked great. People near us said it was also superb. We thanked them for an excellent meal and took the menu with us. You must try this place. It feels like being in Italy.

Veal Parm is delicious and large serving and the clams and mussels were fabulous.. We were treated very kindly by the staff and owner who took time out of his busy night to speak with us. We will come back for sure.

The pizza place we were heading to was closed so we ducked into La Fourno to get out of the rain. The people were super friendly so we decided to stay for dinner. Thank goodness we did!! Dinner exceeded our expectations! The house salad was awesome, pizza, spaghetti and meatballs all were great but the best was Italian Sausage, peppers and onions in sauce over linguini The cannoli was a perfect way to finish off a great meal. This is a must try!!

I was going to be in Philadelphia with 24 other people for a long weekend, and was responsible for making the dinner arrangements for our first night there. (Italian had been agreed upon for the first night.) After narrowing the field to three restaurants (all highly rated on TripAdvisor and elsewhere) and speaking with them, I decided on La Fourno. (Of the three restaurants, La Fourno was the only one that was both reasonably priced and willing to accommodate a group of our size.) Everyone in our group was impressed with the atmosphere, the wait staff, and the food (served "family style"). We started with the House Salad and the Caesar Salad. For dinner we had the Spaghetti & Meatballs Marinara, the Penne with Broccoli, and the Pollo Salsiccia (boneless chunks of chicken sautéed with sweet Italian sausage, mushrooms, and sundried tomatoes in a balsamic reduction). For dessert we had the Homemade Cannoli, the Cheesecake, and the Tiramisu. Should our group travel to Philadelphia again next year, I expect a return trip to La Fourno will be on the itinerary.

We went on Sunday evening, for dinner. The meals were delicious. They started with warm garlic bread with dipping sauce with olive oil and seasoning. The salads were freshly made and the meals were good portions and tasty. We split the dessert, which was fabulous! The only bad thing was that the rest rooms were upstairs on the second floor.

Took my team here on a locals recommendation - most of the group was from out of state so being able to show them South Street and have a delicious, fun meal was a bonus. La Fourno exceeded our expectations - the service was spot on, made us feel special and the entries were delicious - from eggplant parm, chix parm, homemade pasta and fresh salmon! Appetizers (muchrooms, calamari and speciality pizza were perfect) and the wine was priced right. The place was packed on a Wednesday night but we didn't feel rushed. Al G (proprietors) went out of his way to engage with us, make sure everything was perfect and even walked out into the street and hailed two cabs for us! I will make a point to return!

If you are a real italian, you will find this trattoria, the best in Phila. It is the closest to mammas cooking The food is real italian, cooked as you order it,no sitting under lights to keep it warm. The rest of the italian eating places are Italian American. The homemade gnocchis are like little pillows of clouds. Fettucine Alfredo is to die for. House salad, simple but fresh & tasty. All products are brought in fresh everyday & taste like they were just picked .The ambience is like sitting in a trattoria in Italy.I know, after 17 visits to Italy. All the staff are friendly & always willing to assist.an enjoyable evening. Run, don't walk to La Fourno for the best Italian dining experience in Philadelphia

Four of us dined here this week while in Philly for vacation. The service here is outstanding, and the prices are very good. We had pizzas and salad. I thought the pizza was OK, one of our party thought it was great. We all thought the bottom of the crust was a little soggy. Would go back just for the service, and ask them to toast the crust a little more. This style of pizza has thin crust and minimal sauce.

This is a cute, locally owned restaurant with reasonably priced, tasty food. It's located on South Street amid the bars and cheap clothing and sneaker stores, but once you're inside the ambiance is cozy, with a brick oven burning in the front. The food is fresh--I had the seafood special, and the fish and calamari were tender and flavorful. My husband had the chicken and sausage entree, which he also enjoyed. The upstairs is charming, with a bar and fireplace and windows in front. The food isn't nouveau or artisanal, but it's good food and a good value in a nice setting.

We were in the neighborhood, walking on South Street and thought we’d give La Fourno a try. Without reservations on a Saturday night, we only waited a few minutes. We started with grilled veggies in a balsamic reduction- absolutely delicious, Sahara Dates special-what a treat, Caesar salad- a little too much dressing, and the soup was good too! Then for dinner: eggplant parmigiana- thinly sliced, yummy! Chicken with sausage and mushrooms in a balsamic reduction- another hit! Two different personal pizzas- each the size of a large dinner plate. (Personal for two persons)Thin crust, even better. They were really good! We had no room for dessert. We’d absolutely return.

Simple review, is exactly what it says it is family run Italian with well cooked food, plenty of choice and staff that care about what they are doing. Would definitely go back.

What a great dining experience. the host was so gracious and our server was enthusiastic and very attentive. The veal parm was excellent and the pizza was by far the best we had the whole week. Excellent!

We never go to south street, because we felt only for young people. Well wrong we were, it is so worthwhile heading down to south street to have a superb meal. We went with our friends this evening and we all live in center city. We eat in NYC and now have found an Italian restaurant to compare to the best. Certainly the best veal parmigiana we ever had anywhere. The salad and salmon was also fabulous and done to perfection with the linguini unbelievable. It doesn't get any better than this place.

We have eaten at this restaurant and had a wonderful experience. Tonight we decided to stay in and order through a take out service...I must say after tasting our order I was thinking maybe the driver went to the wrong restaurant. We ordered our favorites and were very disappointed. The $7.20 tiramisu was the smallest portion I had ever seen. It took two bites to eat it. The cheese that came with our bread appetizer was hard and discolored. The fettuccine Alfredo was missing cheese and the penne vodka my favorite was loaded with hard onions/garlic and not flavorful. Disappointed with take out. Hopefully we will go back to eat in.

The service couldn't be beat. The food was very good. Maybe a little pricey, we were a party of four and the check was $157 with 4 entrees and 6 drinks. They do have BYOB on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Large menu of top notch Italian dishes, but the service and friendliness of the staff is why you'll be coming back often. They treat you like old friends and always remember you from your last visit. It may look like a pizza place when you walk by (and they do have good pizza) but there's ample seating on two levels in a very comfortable environment, like a tried and true corner neighborhood restaurant. La Fourno is a rare find in the heart of the busy South St. shopping district.

Our Philly friends took us here for dinner, as their favorite Philly meal. Situated on a busy, eclectic part of South Street, this cozy spot had excellent service & delicious food. Known for their veal Parmesan, the dishes they served were all very fresh & outstanding. Our group of 6 could all hear ourselves talk, which was a plus & we didn’t feel rushed. Highly recommend.

We visited La Fourno for dinner - on first entry we were a bit disappointed - the restaurant at first glance looks a bit small and "fast food" like. However, after entry the staff led us to a table in the back which actually had quite a good atmosphere. There was a standard menu as well as a list of the day's specialities. I had an appetizer from the speciality list - a variety of mushrooms in a white wine and Gouda cheese sauce. Excellent dish, great variety of mushrooms and excellent combination with the wine and cheese. My main dish was a pizza with prosciutto, Italian sausage, unions and a variety of peppers (red, green and spicy). Very tasty. The other family members had a variety of dishes - lobster ravioli (excellent), a seafood speciality dish (also excellent). We had a bottle of primitivo which was excellent. The staff in the restaurant was attentive and friendly. All in all a memorable visit - worth a repeat.

This restaurant was recommended by the place we're staying nearby. The food was tasty, came quickly, was priced reasonably, and the staff was attentive. I'll eat here again before I go home.

A pleasant atmosphere for dinner. The service was excellent. The Salmon was prepared in a paper wrap, exactly how I like it. The taste was as good as it gets. La Fourno was changing their wine list and the wine that we wanted was not available. I don’t view that as a significant negative because I found a reasonable substitute. In summary, I would go back again when in town.

This is one of the best restaurants I have found in Philly. Everything was cooked perfect and was delicious (I had a bite of all six of our meals). Service was attentive and friendly. The owners were a delight to talk to. We really enjoyed everything from appetizers to dessert. We were running an event the following weekend and suggested this place to our attendees. Prices were reasonable and really a bargain for the outstanding quality.

My nephews and I always enjoy our meals here. It's not always because of the food though. The staff always goes out of their way to make it a real Italian experience for my nephews.

I was taking my friend out for a birthday dinner and decided on this restaurant based on the proximity to my job and the reviews that it received here on Yelp. I was a little nervous when we walked up to the building though. When I first walked in, it looked like a pizzeria and not a fine dining establishment, but once we walked past the kitchen area up ront, we saw the small dining area in the back. They also have a more spacious area upstairs. Rating: LOVED IT! The service was great. Our waiter was funny and personable. We had drinks and although the apple martini was perfect and the Italian Margarita was tasty, I thought that the drinks were rather small for the price. The food was fantastic. It was hot, well seasoned, and looked great, plus the portion size was on point, They definitely gave you plenty. After dinner, they brought out a chocolate frosted cheesecake with a candle and our waiter instructed the ENTIRE restaurant to wish my friend a happy birthday and sing to her. So unexpected that everyone would be instructed to sing, but it was so nice and definitely added to a great dining experience. And the cheesecake?! Oh yes!! And I don't even like cheesecake! Most of the one's I've tasted went overboard on the cheese. Not La Fourno. No sir! Perfection! One thing I noticed is that a guy, I think he was the owner, stopped by tables and spoke to patrons, helped seat folks, and even cracked jokes with people, however, even though we made eye contact frequently since he passed our table a lot, he didn't smile, (even when I did), and he didn't stop by as he done with all of the other tables. No worries, the restaurant was swell and I would not only recommend it, but I would return. ;-)

Wonderful meal in a cozy atmosphere on South Street! Don't let South Street scare you! The food was awesome and the wait staff very friendly!

My family and I went to La Fourno for dinner, and the food was very good. Dishes that were popular among family members included pasta putanesca, eggplant parmesan and linguini with clams. The owner was quite friendly and welcoming. This restaurant is accommodating to the appetiites of children, which was greatly appreciated. Nice neighborhood restaurant.

South Philadelphia is the home of the mummers and on new years day, the streets are packed with revelers in this area of the city. We had seen a movie and then decided time for a piece of pizza and so we went with friends here. The pizza is of the thin crust variety and we had a Pesto pizza which was excellent. We also had calzone, good, and pasta bolognese , equally as good. Our waitress was a delight , the service was excellent and we would go back when it is not so noisy, mad, crazy and so busy..blame it on the day ...seth and barbara koch
Pleasantly Surprised
Was looking for a restaurant for my husbands's birthday that would accomodate my four year old grandaughter.La Fourno on South Street was one of the top restaurants. Having never been there before, I was a bit skeptical when we walked up to the front of the restaurant, which looked like a take out pizza shop, but was pleasantly surprised by our experience. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Everything from the salads to the desserts was spectacular. The mussels and clams w/linguine was very good, as was the penne ala vodka, linguine w/garlic and oil and the gnocchi garganzola. We topped our dinner off with tira misu, cannoli's and a cup of irish coffee. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
