Third time is not the charm here

By 35donr |

The first time we went to the restaurant was about 6 weeks ago, the server Paula was excellent, she knew what we needed before we asked for it! The food she recommended was good too. Paula also told us about Margarita night, other daily specials and the live music offered. The next week we went back for Margarita night, the drinks were average, pricey compared to other cities. The server didn't have the passion that Paula had, but at the end of dinner he started to warm up to being at work. After a trip over to El Paso, we brought our relatives to La Hacienda that are from Wisconsin because we had prior experiences that were very good. This third visit was a disaster, we arrived around 3:00 pm, ordered some appetizers and drinks, the sever was great,Roger was his name English.... After eating about a half a bowl of salsa we noticed something caked on the inside of the salsa bowl, we asked for the server, he said it was nothing , could I get you more salsa? We asked for the manger, she looked at the white caked on substance and stated that was ok to have that on the bowl! I said No it's not ok!, since when is ok to have caked on substance on a fresh bowl of salsa? Mgr said she would be glad to get more salsa just like the server stated.... wow ! What would you do? We paid our bill , I won't be back! Sad because Paula and the entrees were good!

Five met for Sunday brunch. Two of us got there early and I was glad. By the time the other three showed there was a line out the door. With the help of the waiter I ordered gluten free chorizo con huevo and corn tortillas. It was quite delicious. Others had brisket and stuffed burritos that were delicious and filling. My only caveat is you can't order any drinks by the pitcher. I was looking forward to a pitcher of sangria to share.

Amazing Food and Big Restaurant

By Tiffany M. |

The meal was true Mexican Food and the staff was more than welcome to explain any dishes that we did not understand. NO reservations are needed because the venue is huge offering indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating even had fans on trees to keep it from being too warm. Highly recommended and worth every penny.

Great for late lunch with friends

By danmurphy90 |

Great, authentic Mexican food. We joined three other couples for a mid afternoon lunch and margaritas. Service and food and drinks were superb!

Bean Ration?

By Dmandeluxe |

My wife and I have frequented La Hacienda since it opened in 2004. There's no denying the splendor of an afternoon margarita under the sprawling Oak canopy that shades the patio. But lately the food, and particularly the portions have become sparse. Guacamole and even refried beans are delivered in short supply with an order of fajitas for 2. I'm lucky to have enough for 2 tacos. Still a great place to bring a date or your family but I miss the days when I didn't have to ration the beans.

Very good Mexican food not Tex Mex

By Cristina B |

I like to seat outside/ They have an beautiful patio with music and fans and misters for when it's hot outside. The food can get pricey but is very good. My favorite..enchiladas de mole with a Mexican beer.. yum!

Make an Evening of It!

By Maureen C |

Celebrated our daughter's birthday-accommodating to large groups-food was excellent! Outside is very nice with playground for kids. Good music to enjoy while waiting. One suggestion-a second bartender inside. He was great but could have used some helping hands.

Valentines

By Dayjuan |

Great service . Let us have the special on Valentine’s Day the beer was $5 . And the margarita $8.50 small glass but wife says “it was good. Nice people . Beautiful plants everywhere . Clean & $1.99 chips . But overall great time.

Great atmosphere especially outside. Food is very good and my wife especially enjoys the margaritas. Live music on most evenings is also an awesome bonus. Very kid/family friendly and they can handle large parties if given enough warning. Highly recommend!!

Accomodates Large Group

By ZeelandScoutMom |

We ate with a large family group of 24 people. The room was spacious and inviting, but also quite noisy, so it was hard to have conversations. The server was very friendly and helpful. Because we were in a large group, the food took a while to prepare, as expected. Our server replenished our chips bowls several times. Our meals were not delivered to the table at one time, but with much time in between. Our server seemed to be without any help until the very last few people were served. The presentation of the food looked beautiful, but lacked in flavor.

good food, good atmosphere

By Resort114525 |

we treated family and friends to a post law school graduation dinner. We made prior arrangements. They had all the seating ready for us. We had picked 3 plates from which the guests could pick from. The service, the food, and the drinks were great. Will definitely be back.

Average

By Sarah S |

Food was average. Service average. Would recommend La Fonda on main if you are looking for great Mexican food and margaritas. The dining experience was more cafeteria like than other experiences.

Traditional food, fun for kids and large portions

By Cazzintexas |

We went to this location after church. It is great for families with kids as there is a nice playground for them to romp around in. Tables also provide crayons and a coloring menu for the kiddos. Food was good - traditional fare. One of my companions ordered a tamale and she was disappointed with how little she got for the serving. I on the other hand ordered the Caesar salad with chicken - large portion, but odd flavor with the green olives included. My husband ordered the enchiladas - he enjoyed the whole dish. Other friends ordered the tortilla soup - large portion. It was full of chicken and had plenty of avocados floating around. The empanadas were large with lots of dough - my friends liked the extra dough, but I prefer less. Good place for families at a reasonable price.

Enjoyable restaurant

By opsgt115 |

First time diners here. First, the facility is awesome, beautiful inside and out. Service was outstanding. Food was wonderful, especially the goat which was like a. Pot Roast. Enchiladas may need a bit more seasoning, but very good. We will definitely be back.

This is Not a Good Choice for a Group Meal

By bobemac |

This is a nice property that's located just off the beaten path near Loop 1604 and Redland Rd. We visited with a large group and found that the service was very slow and erratic. Folks who ordered first were served last. There was not enough servers for the size of the group. Orders were mixed up and servers lost count. The chicken fajitas were bland and without any marinate. Tasteless fajitas with boring clumpy rice and a tiny dollop of guacamole and with almost no pico made a poor impression. The eggs with cheese were tasty and the Charro beans had a nice kick. This restaurant is located on a large shaded lot with many large live oaks. They even have a playground for the kiddies.

Excellent!!

By Pricem36 |

Excellent food and service. It was a warm day, sat on the nice tree covered patio and had margaritas. Chips and salsa and cheese dip. The lunch was excellent too. Would definitely return when in San Antonio again!!

Great TexMex

By Max H |

Great Tex Mex in a gorgeous setting, with a beautiful view of the Hill Country. Great staff. Indoor and outdoor seating

Great Food, Margaritas, & Atmosphere

By Flavor Mosaic |

We have been here 3 times now and we thoroughly enjoyed each visit. I love the atmosphere. They are big patios that are great for groups. Their food and their margaritas were good. We will be back!

Good food, but poor dining room experience

By ClarkJ55 |

We were there on a Saturday night and they were hosting some kind of large group that pretty much occupied the entire restaurant. They should have just closed for a private party instead of subjecting their other customers to the extremely loud party. Took a long time to get a table because the group occupied most of them and was there for the entire evening. Good food, but not going back. Too many better places like La Fonda on Main. Pricing for was high as well. $15-$22 for most entries is just too high for this low end dining environment even with good food.

Large menu

By houstonnative47 |

Ate here while visiting from out of town with family. We were lucky that it was 1/2 off margarita night! Those were good. Salsa and chips were good.Service was good. I enjoyed the nachos a la Butler while others seemed to enjoy their fajitas and enchiladas. The outdoor seating looked nice since it was under a big tree.

One of our favorites, but...

By Doug S |

We stopped in for dinner on Saturday, August 18, 2018. I had dropped my family off to reserve a table and by the time that I parked the car and entered the restaurant, they had already been seated. I ordered the same plate I order everytime that I go to a Los Barrios family restaurant, the Classic Enchilada Assortment!! This is one of my favorite dishes ANYWHERE because it has so many enchiladas (5) and I am a huge fan of enchiladas. The plates consists of one enchilada ranchera, one enchilada Mexicana, one enchilada verde, one enchilada poblana, and one Tex-Mex enchilada, and is served with refried beans and guacamole. I thought that one of my favorite enchiladas, which was a chicken mole enchilada, was no longer on the dish; however, it may be called something different now, but it was sure on my plate. While I usually look forward to coming here whenever we visit San Antonio, tonight seemed a little off for me. The restaurant was crowded which was not uncommon. My meal wasn't as good as it typically is. The food temperature was not as hot as it has been in the past, which could be why I did not enjoy as much as I usually do.. We felt the service was kinda hit and miss. This will stop me / us from visiting again, but it was a little disappointing.

Something For Everyone!

By Jack D |

It was Cinco de Mayo and this place was packed with folks plus we had a party of 7. The staff handled the crowd with ease. We took our pager outside and let the kiddos play on the playground equipment while we ordered drinks from the outside bar! The wait was fun! Try the Chamoyrita if you would like to spice up your 'rita. Burgers for the kiddos and Fajita's for the adults. Everyone was pleased and I can't say enough about the staff who was almost running to take care of everyone. I live in another state, but I will definitely return and recommend this restaurant to everyone.

1st and Last Time

By Félix C |

Arrived with family and friends about around 4:45 on Saturday the 28th. A nice sunny day with the temperature at 98 degrees. Our group of nine wanted to be inside away from the heat. With only a handful of occupied tables, we were told that the only room available was on the patio. Again, the inside was empty and the outside bar was just opening up. Supposedly every inside table was reserved. The great thing about San Antonio is that there are plenty of choices of where to go, especially for Mexican food.

We've had better.

By GreatDayTraveling |

First visit. Beautiful, inviting atmosphere, lots of plants, trees, shade. Seating indoors and outdoors. Ordered enchiladas, Sangria, and a beer. Small basket of chips & small sauce was brought to our table. Our server was very good. Enchiladas were good, but not fantastic. Beans were average, Rice was tasty and tender. Our platters were warm, but not hot. Food was warm, but not hot. Sangria was tasty, but did not include any fruit or garnish. I'd give 3 1/2 because of clean, pretty building and dining area. It was slightly disappointing for a $50+ lunch.

Birthday celebration

By Ray02rodriguez |

Got seated right away but took waiter 10-12 minutes to take our drink order. When the last member joined us we ordered our food and asked for another glass of water and a tortilla for our grandson. Took 10 minutes to get tortilla and I had to hunt down the waiter to get the glass of water for our last guest. Waiter brought the water and refreshed our glasses of water. Food came much later and waiter never came back to refresh our drinks. Food was good but our group was complaining about the slow service. We have been there many times before and never had this problem.

Bad food and service.

By Sarah_Nike |

Bad food and service. I’ve been there twice and would not go back. Food is not flavorful. I’ve had the tacos and fajita nachos.

Could be Better

By Scot |

COOL place....indoor and outdoor seating and huge cactus in the front. The flaming chorizo was pretty good and awesome to look at but my Margarita was VERY small and tasted watered down. I also tried the Mexican chicken fried steak and I thought it was very bland and should Have been a lot spicier. But I would try this place again as they have a lot of unusual menu items.

Great food every time

By PaoloDiRaul |

A place with deep history, family establishment that never fails to disappoint with delicious Mexican dishes! Highly recommended!

Sunday Lunch with the Family

By 1991mak |

We were seated immediately upon arrival, there was no wait. There were several other families and couples seated both inside and out on the patio but the place was not crowded. The food took a little while to come out after our order but it was hot when it arrived. The waiter seemed to be servicing quite a few tables and there were long pauses between his checking in with us. He was polite enough just not overly attentive. We have eaten at this restaurant many times before as it is a popular, long time family owned business in San Antonio. The place could use a bit of freshening up and updating, it has looked the same for as long as I can remember. Bottom line: the food was good, the service so so.

Puffy Tacos

By Lea Ashley |

The puffy tacos were disappointing and as bland as they look. I don't agree with them being "San Antonio Puffy Tacos". The chicken taco tasted like just boiled chicken , but the beef one was good. The tacos did not include cheese, guacamole, sour cream, or picante sauce, and when I requested for at least one of the items I was offered grated processed cheese. It appears the quality of this restaurant has changed.

Only Average

By Kelly D |

This meal was only your average Mexican fare that is at any local Mexican restaurant. No biggie. I thought it was quite pricy for what they had to offer. I can get the same anywhere for about half the cost. $53 for two - only average.

More tip

By miguel |

Last night I went to eat at the restaurant, I arrived at about 9:30 pm, no one attended to me then someone came and attended me after I walked the whole restaurant I sat outside, the waitress came and asked me to decide quickly as they were going to close, I to help decided quickly and placed the order, then they bring me the food, ten minutes later we were on the outside eating they take away my light, I ask if they can turn it on they tell me no, like with the light off the patio, at the end of the waitress brings me the bill I decide to leave $5 tips I leave and the waitress sends me to tell me that $5 dollars not that minimum I had to leave $25 that she had to pay those who clean the tables I had to pay the card had to pay the one who passes the card I had to pay the yard in the end with that $5 dollars they had to pay more than 5 people I stared at the waitress as I told me that I needed more tip money I decide to give it $25 dollars more since I did not want to form a problem of this I own a business and I would never dare to put a customer in such a situation, I was very tired of the work week I just told you I will give them but here neither I nor my family, I do not call the manager nor anyone else because I feel more respect and value their strong work and I can understand to a point but I will not return to that restaurant still giving me 5 minutes from home.

Good Food at Reasonable Prices.

By Nailcutter |

Came for dinner while in town for a tradeshow. Restaurant is indoors and outdoors but we decided to eat outside and listen to the live music. It was a nice evening. We ordered drinks and were served chips and salsa. Order taken for their puffy tacos and chicken fajitas. We revived our food about 90 minutes later due to a “backed up kitchen”. When food arrived the tacos were very good and the fajitas were sent back to get made well done as ordered. They turned out to be very good. Came with beans, rice and guacamole. Prices reasonable just got caught with big parties. They gave us fried tortillas with honey as dessert.

Best family restaurant in the Northeast area. Great Margaritas!

By Linda M |

Great family restaurant in our neighborhood. We have had several family gatherings there for Baby Showers, Graduations and Birthdays. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The menu is very large and offer many different dishes. It is always hot and delicious! There is outside and indoor dining with a playground for children.

Weak margaritas, great Mexican atmosphere

By Dkboyer2000 |

I too thought the margaritas were overpriced and needed more alcohol. Child con queso was thick and didn't taste right. However the salsa, fajitas and cheese enchiladas were wonderful. Overall the bill was surprisingly high but the food was enjoyable.

Terrific Mexican Food

By hoopdog210 |

This is a gem of a spot just outside Loop 1604 surrounded by beautiful trees with a large outdoor patio. Inside, light and airy, we sat at a wonderful table for four. The food is delicious! Must visit in NE San Antonio!

Mediocre at best!

By Originaldemonseed |

Went on Monday. Ordered a Jack Daniels on the rocks and was brought a Scotch. Sent it back and was brought what I was ordered. Ordered the beef fajitas and they were semi warm at best and not sizzling. At this point I just wanted to finish my meal and leave. Not overly impressed with my meal. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants near me. It will be a while before I even think about having dinner here again. The service was just all right!

Outsatnding Service, Great Drinks, and Medicore Food

By Bruce C |

We were a large party of 15, out waiter was awesome, regretfully did not catch his name. He was extremely proficient providing us inside on what they serve and keeping us entertained. I had a Margarita that was a mix of Strawberry and Mango, it was a great relief to a long day. Ask the waiter for some help in the food selection. The meal I had was average Mexican fare, with chicken 3 ways. I liked two but the third just had to much sour flavor and was not really my thing. Our table as a whole enjoyed the time we spent there and thought the food was good. they also had a gentleman playing the guitar that just added life to the party

great for large family

By Matt R |

Went with family for a table of 11 just before Christmas. They sat us on the spacious patio and service was outstanding. My parents loved the classic puffy tacos. My enchiladas verdes were outstanding. Mole was superb. Overall, very grateful for an enjoyable holiday meal on a busy night with a large group. We will be back, thank you!

Birthday dinner

By Jamtexas99 |

Had my birthday dinner tonight outside on the patio and the setting, music, ambiance cannot be beat in San Antonio. The food has always been just ok but tolerate because of the setting. Prices are also high. I could take all of this if the service was at least a little tolerable. But I have been here a dozen times and the service has never been good. Keep coming back and think this is the last time. Only give 3 stars because the patio outside is awesome. Maybe just go for drinks.

Outstanding food

By bubba65 |

Each visit to San Antonio, this is a must stop restaurant at least once and often multiple times. The cheese enchiladas are perfect. The gold standard of how they are to be made. The other dishes are all excellent. With the indoor and outdoor seating you can always find a spot. I recommend the cheese enchiladas without beans and rice. If you are hungry just get a double order.

Food is OK

By lucsimsthomas |

I went to this place twice in the past few months after not going for years. The food is OK, but it is usually someone else who suggests we go here and I go along since that's what they want. The chips and salsa are not free and are not really worth paying for. I ordered the Fajita Taco Plate lunch special. It was OK and the service was pretty good. I was with a group, so the waitress was kept very busy but she made it work. It was a nice atmosphere for the most part. I had a house margarita and it was not bad. I will still go here if someone else suggests it, but probably won't go any other way.

beautiful setting

By Vanessa W |

great food in a beautiful setting. Fajitas. Queso. Margaritas. beautiful outdoor seating. usually great place to come. night we came service not as good as it usually has been. waitress did not ask us if we wanted dessert which we did. she only brought out one plate for a fajita meal for 3. she never came back with extra tortillas. However we made a comment to manager on duty and we got 15 off the cost of our meal and two servings of sopapillas for free. we were a party of 8 so we did spend quite a bit even without the discounts. Thank you for correcting the bad experience. we will come again. train the staff to upsell dessert and to refill tortillas even when not asked to. This is a great place just an off night.

More authentic than expected

By BenuAl |

This place is really nice. It is so authentic Trump may build a wall around it! We went fir a quick business lunch. Perfect if you are close.

We always eat here when we visit San Antonio

By Valerie H |

This is one of our favorite places to eat in SA. It's always busy when we come, but there is plenty of seating. The puffy tacos are to die for! The patio is shaded and lovely in the evening, and of course it's awesome when they have live music. Their margaritas are very good too!

Dinner

By Marie P |

This place has an appealing outdoor atomosphere! It's probably a great place to have appetizers and drinks with friends but the food is not so great! There is a playground for kids but it's very very worn down and pretty pathetic looking. If you are really hungry and want to take the family to a nice delicious dinner then this is NOT the place but if you want to go hang out with friends and have some drinks and enjoy some live music then this is a great place. The wait on the weekends can be up to an hour half. I can say I've been there but highly doubt I'd be back. Little over-rated for me.

Average!

By Philip K |

Frankly i was not very impressed by the food!. I didn't find it very tasty. I was there as a part of business team. May be it was because of the size of the group. I will rate this restaurant as just Average.

Great outdoor experience but below average food

By BBTX |

My wife and I enjoyed the outdoor dining under large oak trees and live music from the low-key solo guitarist. The food, on the other hand, was disappointing. Living in San Antonio, I have been to many Tex-Mex restaurants, and, for reasons I don't understand, I thought the food was below average in quality and above average in price. My beef taco had kind of a beef paste or gravy in it instead of ground or chopped beef. My Bloody Mary tasted so weird I didn't finish it. I can see why this is a very popular place for families with play space for children, but I cannot recommend it for the food.

Greasy chips and poor service

By Roman P |

Took a long time for us to be seated even though they only had a few tables occupied. Chips and salsa served, very greasy chips. No variety for children’s justices. Non authentic food that was bland at best. Always wanted to stop by as it looked good from the road. Don’t waste your time or money as there are plenty of other places close by that are much better at Mexican food and ambiance.

Retirement dinner

By Lily W |

The place is beautiful the food was not good. We enjoyed a couple of cold drinks and when the food arrived, I took a couple of bites and left the rest. The pollo en salsa I had was dry and overcooked. The poblano sauce served on the side was probably yesterday's sauce. We were surprised the food was not up to par. We probably won't come in again. I don't know if the owner comes in but i believe it needs spot checks to ensure they are on track. Don't get comfortable with the name and the assumption that people will come in to eat for that reason alone.

Overpriced and underwhelmed

By Tammy B |

Restaurant was clean. The waitress was very nice. The food was eh. The prices were very high for less than average food. The chips were very greasy and fried in old tasting oil. The fajitas were tough and had very little flavour. The enchiladas, rice and beans were average. The flaming queso had little to no flavour. Highlight. The flour tortillas and salsa were good but for 3 adults and a 2 year old $95 is too pricey. Pick somewhere else.

Outside deck is amazing...

By Debbie O |

Fun evening on the outside deck under the twinkle lights, just enjoying the live music, frozen margaritas and complimenary chips and salsa that are always flowing. The combo platters are my favorite but the chicken tortilla soup looks great and their children meals are perfect appetites of any size. My daughter's favorite is the cheese enchiladas with chili con carne sauce and rice and beans.

Hidden gem....

By Stacie W |

Wow. From the lovely patio to the amazing cuisine to the very entertaining acoustic live music, the entire night was lovely. Thanks to the owner and the entire staff for making our dinner so special. I highly recommend the shrimp enchiladas and the warm soft taco sauce was great on just about everything on our plates. Highly recommend.

First Time

By L H |

Twenty years ago this was a metal building that was called Redland Hall and rented out for venues. I had heard over the years it was turned into a Mexican restaurant but never got back in the area to try it. It is located on Redland Road between Loop 1604 and Hwy. 281 and was easy to find. Recently a few friends met here during HH. The owners did a fantastic job of remodeling the metal building and looks great with the stucco look. The parking lot is small but we arrived early and parked easily. You have to walk around the side to the front. By the time we left people were parking on the side of road in front of the entrance. There is a large outside patio area with a bar but being the fall they had plastic walls around most of it and this really took away from the outdoor ambiance. The patio area has metal patio tables and chairs. Would love to visit in the spring or summer with hopefully it will be open air then. We checked in at the front entrance and then asked to be seated outside. The inside is a nice décor with plenty of table and booth seating. Our waiter came quickly and they do have the table scan menu but we asked for a paper menu. Unfortunately he only brought 2 for six people and one of the menus was dirty (yuk) so they must reuse them. I pointed it out to the waiter and he took it away but didn't apologize or bring another menu. So six of us had to share one menu. The HH offered $5.50 house margaritas which were good and served in a heavy margarita glass. House wine was $5.25 and a decent pour. I asked about their "early bird" specials and was told since they reopened during COVID the menu he gave was all that was available. That didn't really make sense but whatever. The waiters did wear masks, no gloves though. There was available sanitizer entering and exiting the patio area. They do have daily specials as well. Everyone agreed the pricing is on the high end for Tex-Mex food. I ordered the Maguey (one chalupa with chicken, beans, lettuce, tomato and avocado) and it was $6.99 and nothing special. Another ordered the El Tradicional (2 cheese enchiladas, crispy taco, rice and beans) at $13.99 and it was good. The waiter wasn't very friendly but he was efficient. The complimentary chips were freshly prepared crisp and warm and the salsa was tasty and mildly spicy hot. The bathrooms were clean. The noise level was average for the setting and the place seems to be pretty popular but it is located close to many subdivisions.

authentic charm

By Trudie S |

our hotel recommended this fabulous place.....at first glance, it was set out in the middle of nowhere....but it felt like you were visiting someone's home for dinner.....we ate outdoors in the patio which was filled with Fiesta party groups.....the service was excellent and the menu large and diverse.....tried the chile rellano and husband had chicken enchiladas w/mole sauce....both very very tasty.....live music and outdoor ambiance all contributed to a memorable meal...a must if you visit hill country in San Antonio.

Great local Mexican restaurant....

By JoshuaExpeditions |

Great local Mexican restaurant.... not a fanciest place but the food is very good. Home made corn tortillas are a must..... puffy tacos are also very good. Free chips and salsa are great but Queso not so much. Outdoor seating is nice and they had live music when we were there on Wednesday evening.

Just all about the patio

By evelyn s |

Heard that this place is owned by the same family that operates Los Barrios so I was expecting the same quality of food. Very disappointed. Food was nothing special, very salty and expensive for Mexican food. Service was equally disappointing. Not only was it slow but we found items charged to our bill that we did not even order. My advice is to carefully check your bill before you hand your credit card. The only saving grace for this place is the outside patio. It is beautifully set under giant Oak trees.

Rip Off

By travelqueen61666 |

I am a Texas Girl and love Mexican Food. This site is family owned, including other lication. Our visit started ordering drinks and appetizer. While waiting, wheres the chips n salsa? Bro says oh! you have to order and pay for them. WHAT!!!!! I an not will be going there anymore. This is not NORMAL for from the history of this family restarants.

Great Happy Hour!

By SLiebbe |

On our first full day on vacation in San Antonio, TX we had drinks and appetizers at La Hacienda. We sat outside in their patio area enjoying the nice weather/temperature. We all had margarita's and ordered some appetizers. We proceed to have great conversation, enjoy the music entertainment and the tasty libations/food. Their patio area is very comfortable nestled with many wonderful live oak trees. We didn't have dinner here mainly because we filled-up on drinks and snacks. However, I kept noticing the many plates of food that were being brought over to numerous other tables. When the weather is good in San Antonio, give this restaurant a try.

Pleasurable Visit

By Patricia B |

We were flying out the next morning and didn't want to travel downtown. Hacienda was recommended to us by the locals. The food was good, the margaritas were excellent, the setting was the major attraction. Outdoor seating was busier than inside and it was a very hot day. We will return!

Great for outside seating

By Morgan G |

This place was large enough to handle my very large family, we were expecting to have approx. 20 people. The only bad thing I would suggest they change is the happy hour pricing, make it just one more hour long, and you will sell more for sure.

Great Food ,Crazy Busy Too few waitstaff

By Meredith H |

My husband and I hosted a rehearsal wedding dinner for my daughter. We had approx. 25 folks. The food was delicious; drinks were as well. It was a Friday night and it was just TOO busy for the serving staff to cover everyone's needs. They need to hire more staff. I know it is a popular local drinking hole, but come on guys- hire more people.

You can't get food like this in Minnesota!

By Linda F |

As you can guess, we're from MN where they think 'good Mexican food' is Taco Bell. We were in TX visiting my sister and had stopped over in San Antonio. I sent her a text asking where to eat and she sent us here saying that it's her favorite restaurant in the city. My husband, who is a Jewish guy from Brooklyn and says he doesn't like Mexican food, LOVED the Carne Asada. I had the enchilada assortment and it was simply amazing. As the title says, you can't get food like this in MN! It was so good that we stopped again on the way back home and ordered the same dishes because they were so very, very good.

Food is good but margaritas are very expensive

By SHARON P |

First, you should know that the road to La Hacienda is being torn up (we visited in the middle of August 2017). The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice with lots of trees and nicely decorated to look like a hacienda. It is a very pleasant place to have a lunch meeting (we were a party of four). There is inside and outside seating, but it was too warm to sit outside. The food on the lunch menu was good and comparable to what I would get at other Tex-Mex style restaurants with prices a little higher. The service was also good. My one complaint is the cost of the margaritas we ordered. Each margarita was more than the price of our lunch! We were shocked when we got our bill. It is a beautiful restaurant and if you are not concerned with pricing and don't drink alcohol, you will have a very pleasant visit.

I'm not sold

I went here with a very large group of people in the morning and I mean very large group of people. We did have reservations but it still seemed like the staff were underprepared for us and therefore were not able to manage us (e.g. couldn't remember who ordered what, drinks were not refilled). Furthermore, the food was only just okay. I had two breakfast tacos and while the egg and potato one was good, the bean and cheese one was severely lacking in flavor quality. Presentation was also lackluster. Maybe I need to go with a smaller group to get a better experience, but even then, I wasn't sold on my first time around.

Not what I expected :-(

By Jack A |

The food was lackluster at best. I had heard amazing things about this location , but was sorely disappointed. The service was not spectacular and the was forgettable. Being somewhat educated in the Meat Industry, at times I felt like we were served less than acceptable cuts. This was a year ago and we have not been back.

Nice Restaurant tucked into a wooded lot

By TexasLibraryLady |

We had visited the original Los Barrios Restaurant downtown, and was pleasantly surprised to find out there was another location on the northwest side of town. The setting is wonderful! Lots of trees, and a nice patio. However, we chose to eat inside--July is too hot! The building was nicely decorated and furnishings attractive and comfortable. After a short wait (nice waiting area with benches), we were seated at a large table next to some windows where we could enjoy the view. The wait staff was attentive. Our food arrived hot and was tasty. I ordered a cup of tortilla soup to try. I am pretty picky when it comes to tortilla soup, but this one was good. Not too many onions, and great flavor. I also ordered the street tacos (taquitos de Pueblo), minus onions (very good). My niece had the puffy tacos, (love!) and my nephew had the brisket Gorditas (amazing!). Their son had chicken strips--no complaints. I also got to teach my great nephew how to make a tortilla mask! All in all, great food, great establishment!

Disappointment

By reeltxn |

What a disappointment! I had flautas and hubby had chicken enchiladas. Nothing was great and nothing was horrible. Just blah. The restaurant itself was dirty also: stuff on the floor, windows were gross. All in all - disappointing.

Better than Some

By txcarguy |

We had dinner with friends here on a Saturday night. The service was very good but the food was only average. This restaurant seems to have lost that special edge that they used to have. Food tasted OK but not spectacular and the margaritas seem to be watered down.

Fun Place to Eat

By Cindy G |

Excellent Mexican food - kids love the play ground while waiting for food. Our family enjoys sitting outside. Weekend live entertainment was very good.

Just wonderful!

By beth ann k |

This was, by far, the best place that we ate, in San Antonio. The food and drinks were fantastic; the service and atmosphere are excellent.

Highly Recommended, but didn't live up to the billing

By cw3tim |

Nice setting admittedly, but sadly, the food was just average. There was nothing exceptional about anything I tried.

Ok breakfast in quiet area

By Chantal72 |

Piping hot Sunday morning breakfast on a large patio turned out to be a good choice. Bit of a strange welcome as nobody was there to seat us and it looked almost closed but once seated everything turned out pretty good. Nice waitress and good mexican breakfast.

Fun festive Tex Mex restaurant with a hopping patio w/entertainment!

By cfunk2018 |

My husband and I shared the fajitas for 2 - a Mt. of food was served! We each got our own plate with rice, beans, guac, & Pico. I forgot to take a pic of the platter of chicken, onions, and peppers. It was more than we could eat! They also served plenty of tortillas! The chips and salsa were very good, I'm picky, I make my own! The parking lot is huge and was packed, but the restaurant inside was fairly empty! Everyone was on the very large patio enjoying the warm night and the entertainment! Our visit was in early Oct.

Mexican Food At Its Best

By sadrew1 |

If you visit San Antonio this restaurant is a must if you're looking for great Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican dishes. The co-owner, Diana Barrios-Treviño was challenged by Bobby Flay from the Food Network to a "Puffy Taco Throwdown." She won. The menu has a large selection of dishes to choose from. My favorites are an appetizer called Queso Flameado, a melted cheese dish served flaming. And, the El Traditional, 2 Cheese Enchiladas and 1 Crispy Beef Taco, served with Spanish Rice and Beans. YUM. Try it, you'll like it.

Dinner

By PaulPrissyFullen |

Service was good. Food was delicious. I had there desert Flan and it was amazing. I would definitely be bringing my family here when we come as a family to San Antonio.

Very good, but a bit overpriced

By Ellen L |

I have always loved the food at the Los Barrios restaurants. One of my favorite dishes is the Enchiladas Verdes. Their verde sauce is one of the best. This location is very popular with its large patio and playscape for kids. My only issues are that it's a bit overpriced and sometimes the servers aren't stellar. But you'll likely be pleased with the food.

Off the beaten path favorite for locals and the best puffy tacos

By ranchonodinero |

Off the beaten path restaurant is a favorite for locals. During a recent stay, our group wanted something more native to San Antonio. Sure we used Trip Advisor, but decided to check with the concierge who suggested we try La Hacienda. We were not disappointed. If you ever visited San Antonio and even heard of puffy tacos you should try this place! Seating is available inside or out. I recommend outside as they have a vast patio and deck. They have lights in the huge oak trees and it is a pretty place. An acoustic guitar player was playing covers. As crowded as the place was, the service was outstanding. The chips and sauce were excellent and so too were the tortillas. They have a strawberry magaritta that is excellent and is not you typical snow cone that you can get at the tourist places. The food was served hot-the puffy tacos did not disappoint! They were stuffed with meat and were flavorful. The other diners in our group had burritos and enchiladas. The portions are generous. Price is very reasonable given the quality of food. It's worth the drive. Go at sundown or shortly thereafter and enjoy the patio.

Authentic Tex Mex

By Barb H |

We came here with the large group and they were great for taking care of all of us. Their bar menu is good and their dinner menu is extensive. No complaints from anyone and we were on our second visit there — a winner!

Where’s the Cheese

By danidb518 |

Huge place with seating inside and out (under the old oak trees). Very clean. Very busy late afternoon the day before Easter! I read “homemade chips” and that got my attention, when looking for a place to eat, well, I was a little disappointed. Chips come in a SMALL bowl for one thing and they were so hard I thought I’d break a tooth. And as busy as it was, it was difficult to get refills and our big bowl of queso got cold. Waitress stated she thought the guacamole was $3.99 for large, we said ok good. LOL, BIG difference when the bill came and it was 8.99! But it did have a good flavor. I had the shrimp enchilada. Tiny pieces of shrimp but sautéed and had a good flavor. Charro beans were good. Husband’s two puffy tacos were ok, but no cheese came on them! He was using his fork to get some of the cold queso to add to the tacos. No serving spoons came with queso nor guacamole! My cousin had regular ol plain cheese enchiladas which she said were ok. She also had a puffy taco and used the cold queso as there was no shredded cheese on her taco neither!

Great music on the deck. So relaxing.

By Texasman24 |

Diana and Louis are great hosts and provide an exceptional dining experience. Try the chimichurri sauce on the tortilla chips...so good. Always a wonderful time.

BEST Tex-Mex Food ANYWHERE !!

By manos6232 |

This place has the best Tex-Mex food in all of San Ann, and San Ann has a lot of GREAT TEX-MEX available---- The staff is friendly and efficient and the food and drinks are GREAT ! every plate I have had here is fantastic and the drinks are poured real good ! Fun place for the family and plenty of outside seating as well on a cool night

Great Party Location

By zepper50 |

La Hacienda was chosen for a group wedding shower and they were great. Ample parking. Indoor and outdoor dining. Varied menu but for this occasion we had a buffet that was fresh tasting and excellent. Drink service like all service friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend for a group gathering.

Marginal Breakfast Food

By Melissa V |

All in our party had the Chiliquiles........a marginal breakfast at best. We did sit outside on the patio which was very nice, cool and breezy. Our waitress was friendly and helpful.

A Hidden Gem

By Bob W |

We discovered this great restaurant hidden in the hills last year - and were taken with the authentic experience of dining there. The recipes tasted as if they were from the Barrios Family Cookbook. The high ceiling and furnishings eclipse the vast majority of Mexican eateries - not to mention the beautiful outdoor dining option. Very attentive and cordial wait staff. The long selection of entrees makes the decision pretty darn difficult - but from all the meals we have enjoyed at La Hacienda, you can't go wrong. A nice selection of beverages tops it off.

No longer a good restaurant

By Yvette W |

We used to love this place back in the day. The outdoor area is great and has music. Lately the food has been bland and looks microwaved. The service is TERRIBLE!! Waited 10 just for someone to say hi. Waited 15 min for waiter to come. 25 min before drinks and chips came and my drink was wrong. Plenty of better restaurants in SA!

Great food in a beautiful relaxed atmosphere

By Loveless trippers |

Having eaten here several times over the past few years, it's one of our main restaurants that we are fortunate to have so near to us. Just as the name says it's a neighborhood-style eatery that not only boasts some of the best in outside seating but has delicious food. It's great for the family, date-night, or for larger gatherings for out-of-town guests. Everyone in my neighborhood (about 10 miles away) loves this place.

Traditional Northern Mexican Dishes with a Tex Mex Flare

By FilSpangler |

If you are in the northern part of San Antonio this restaurant may be off the beaten path but it well worth the find. The dishes are large and tasty. There is a wide assortment of traditional Tex Mex dishes to suit any taste. The shrimp stuffed chili relleno is great but I also am partial to the enchiladas verdes. My wife loves the regular chili relleno's and the puffy tacos. There are so many great dishes on the menu it is hard to decide what to try. Enjoy the made in house chips and salsa while you wait for your meal. The margarita selection is also famous in San Antonio. Be sure to finish your meal with an order of sopapillas or maybe the vanilla flan. This is a large place with indoor and patio dining and even a playground to keep the kids entertained.

Always Reliable for Great TexMex

By S L |

Both La Hacienda on Redland Road and the Los Barrios location are will worth a visit. The Barrios family knows how to not only cook great TexMex but how to treat their patrons. The food is great and the service is always exceptional. The Redland Road location has a beautiful hill country setting and large patio area. Live entertainment on the patio adds to the atmosphere on the weekends. Yum yum!

Bland City!

By Melissa L |

Hubby got the mixed fajitas. My sister and I got the crispy flautas. We also ordered the nachos. Besides the saltiness from the refried beans that came with the nachos and meals, there was no flavor! The flautas were plain chicken in fried tortillas. They came with lettuce (no flavor), sour cream (no flavor), and smashed avocado (no flavor). Besides the tortillas that are good, the chicken and steak were the blandest meat I’ve ever had. It was very disappointing. The server was super friendly though. I swear whenever I have “real” Mexican food, there’s never any flavor yet I hear or read about how flavorful it is. What am I missing?

Group Dinner

By Alanhimmelstein |

We went to this restaurant for a group Dinner on Saturday night. As we had 14 people, we had a reservation. We were seated as soon as we walked in the door! Our wait staff was very attentive and offered nice suggestions. Had an enchilada combo which was good - needed more seasoning (heat) so I added salsa from the bowl they brought with chips. Pricing was comparable to other Los Barios family restaurants. As we had a large group, they automatically added a gratuity of 19%. There is little if any ambiance but we went for the company and food so it was fine.

Great Tex-Mex in San Antonio

By CoolPapaGreen |

This is a high-end Tex-Mex restaurant in San Antonio. It is a little expensive but the food is delicious. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating and can accommodate a lot of diners -- it sure had a lot of patrons when we were there. The food is served on extremely hot plates which keeps the food at the right temperature during the meal. Decor is nice and service is friendly.

Good atmosphere

By Paula D |

We got the churrasco and the milanesa. We thought the milanesa was chicken, but it’s beef. In the menu states chicken style. So read carefully the menu. The milanesa was not that good. My churrasco was ok with the chimichurri. My husband said his was very fatty. Some of the potatoes were uncooked. The empanadas were good. I got a guava margarita, it was drinkable, but it wasn’t that good. The blue one that my husband got was better. Overall I feel the food was pricey for what we got. The really good thing was the live music.

We Love this place!

By PSS2311 |

We come here at least once a week. We love the patio and the love music helps to distress from a long day. The margaritas are amazing and the food is so delicious!! I've tried alot of the food on the menu and have never been disappointed. The service is always friendly and the bartenders ate great! Alvaro is one of our favorite bartenders he is always accommodating to the customers and serves up your drinks in no time. The music is great! We especially enjoy listening to Brew on Wednesday margarita night! Perfect combination for a great evening. I highly recommend this place!! Love it!!!

Usually one of my favorites!

By L D |

Waiter, drinks, and food were great! This place has always been one of my favorite places! Today however when we arrived after waiting quite a bit if time to be acknowledged by the hostess she had a seater sit us down. When we got to the patio it was covered by tarps. So much for the outside feel! We asked if we could sit at a table not under the tarp with a view of the playground. Her response was that they were not seating there because of reservations later. When we left about an hour later all tables in that area were seated. We asked the family of 4 (like ours) at the table we requested if they had reservations...answer was no! Bottom line I feel lied too and it is not appreciated!

Beautiful spot, great food

By Cindy C |

We had lunch here today, was my 2nd visit. Sadly, was raining so we couldn't sit out on the gorgeous patio. Food was great, I had shrimp quesadillas with their own corn tortillas foldover. Very friendly, very clean, pretty place to eat.

Great Patio Seating

By Mike B |

The place has some gorgeous trees in the patio area. Plus some live music and decent tex-mex food. You cant really go wrong with it for a place with friends and family etc..

Great environment !

By hairfairy17 |

I have also gone to the original Los barrios on Blanco, I was skeptical that the food would not be as good! I was very happy with the food and service. And had a buenulo bowl with ice cream and caramel! It was amazing but definately enough for 2-4 people! I will be back to enjoy a margarita!

Cowboy Diver attends Celebration of life

By TheCowboyDiver |

A very deer friend was killed tragically in San Antonio, and we had people come from many states to attend his services, so at the last minute we decided to get together here and the staff was perfect! The put tables together for about 25 + friends and we had a great time telling stories. This is a must stop in San Antonio!😍

Great Breakfast

By PEGGYANN229 |

Stay at the local holiday inn close by. Found this was near. We had breakfast here. Staff was great. Meal was amazing. The waiter kept drinks full. We loved it will come back again.

After church lunch

By txflygirl |

Came for lunch after church today. Service was nice, food was hot and the atmosphere was relaxing. We enjoyed Mimosa’s (yummy) with our late breakfast entrees. Quite nice. My only “constructive criticism” is when we needed extra chips, tortillas or water, some of the staff (assists, bus guys) that were just standing around could have been helpful.

Good Grinds

By Dale B |

There were about 17+ people celebrating a birthday. Food was good, full of flavor, the waiter was very efficient, and from what I understand the Guava Margarita were tasty too.

El Fantastic-0 ~!! Must Must Must come here~!!

By TEXASconnie |

This place rocks minute one. Not only will you be serve very authentic TexMex food of San Antonio, their drinks are - wow!! There is history here ; The owner is sister to the late Viola Barrios who is the one and only - THE initial restaurantuer "Las Barrios" who was horribly murdered at her own home years back, the Barrios name still grows. Huge - and spacious!! Great great awesome for large groups. An outdoor place to be out in the Texas hot summer nights. This place is adorable -awesome - fun - down home - and Mexican. Cannot go wrong here!!!

Big and roomy, inside outside dining

By lizavinTX |

We don't live near here but we meet here with large groups. My husband is a firefighter and we have been holding our station Christmas parties here and when we are together for a city event we meet here. There's a large playground for kids and they can accommodate large groups. At Christmas, there's tents with heaters to hold more tables. Food is great. Drinks are great too. My husband loves the chamoy Margarita. No complaints- great restaurant.

Early Weekend Dinner

By Eugene R |

We have visited this restaurant in the past and have had good experiences. The service is always good and the staff is very pleasant. This visit was a casual afternoon early Sunday dinner. The food we had was not as good as in the past and we were disappointed in our meal.

Lost for Dinner

By bk27catlady |

He wouldn't tell me where we were going for dinner. I would've brought the Valpack coupon so my dinner could've been free. Very busy. Had to wait. Inside bar too slow. Went to the outside bar & got a great top shelf (Don Julio Blanco & Cointreau) Margarita on the rocks from Amber. Guacamole was salty. Next time...the coupon.

Slow Service but Great Atmosphere

By wmcutie04 |

We met up as a family here, my sister and I plus my cousins and their triplets! One of the best things was the park right off the restaurant for my cousins' kids. The outside deck was awesome. There was live music and then in between I just believe music coming through the speakers. The bar seemed to be busy so there were a lot of people. We enjoyed our drinks. I didn't really eat anything but my cousins said they enjoyed the food.

Eat Outside

By Bree L |

Often there's live music on the patio, and even on hot days its nicely shaded with fans. We eat here often. I love the fajitas because they add garlic and grill tomatoes with them, so good!!! I do not love their sopapillas...too chewy/gummy. I recommend La Hacienda for special occasions and just a yummy dinner with the family. There is a nice playground so you can sit for just a little bit longer and chat while listening to the music and sipping your margarita.

AMAZING IN EVERY CATAGORY!

By RCouser80 |

I hosted a dinner for 65 of my employees. They handled everything with a smile! The staff from day one were very helpful and kind!. The food is amazing! We sat outside and it was perfect! Shade/wind... perfect night!.

Tex Mex at its Best

By Bguillory |

Delicious Tex Mex next food with flavor! Chili con carne enchiladas are delicious! Always great service and excellent Margaritas!

Great Service from Ian

By TahoegpSA |

Last minute drop-in for dinner, Saturday evening, on our way home. Greeted and seated almost immediately; even though, it was obviously busy. Good food; but, the highlight of the dinner was our Server Ian. Just the right blends of service, efficiency, and humor. We had the Enchiladas de Camarron with Poblano sauce and the Carne Guisada. Both had very good taste and presentation. We’ll be back to sample other entrees. Ian recommends the Mole for our next visit.

Puffy tacos and outdoor music

By ayers002 |

If you want good Mexican food with a great atmosphere, this is the place to go! They are famous for their "puffy tacos" and their reputation precedes bc they are delicious! I typically go after the "El Traditional" meal which is 2 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and 1 puffy taco - It never disappoints. They have a massive patio under plenty of tree cover, with live music 7 days a week. They have plenty of fans and misters to keep the Texas weather in check while dining outside. They also take reservations for large parties on busy days, which is rare. Can't go wrong coming here to eat!

Perfect evening

By Julian C |

Great food, music and great place for kids to play in the playground. Margaritas were awesome. Our family loved the evening.

Really good lunch menu & setting

By jani s |

Excellent setting for all meals ( breakfast, lunch, dinner & happy hour ). Food is consistently good and prices very fair. The Mex-Tex food is wonderful especially the cheese enchiladas & fajitas ! The fajitas are on special Monday & Tuesdays which is a bonus. Setting is very relaxing offering both indoor & outdoor seating. They accommodate large groups quite well. Also margaritas are great ...

Terrible service, terrible management, food less than disappointing!

By Cheryl G |

Couldn’t wait to go out tonight to eat a skillet sizzling fajitas. Sat for 15 mins with no water and no server. Finally got up and found one. We were giving one glass of water all night. Almost 30 more minutes to get our food. Had to ask for tortillas and wait on them to go with our fajitas. Beef fajitas had ZERO flavor. Not so much as a spec of salt or pepper on them much less marinated. After waiting to see our waitress again another 20 mins or so I told her we were not happy with the fajitas. We would have liked to have been offered a replacement of something else to eat, but had waited so long we just wanted to leave. She sends over her manager who tells me they have had no complaints about their fajitas all night. I asked him to taste them and he says he’s been tasting them all night and there’s nothing wrong with them. No apologies or offer of another item. Instead he had the audacity to say that I should have said something sooner! We had seen our waitress a total of three times and couldn’t even get our water glasses refilled. He said he would take 1/2 off the bill for the fajitas. Still no apology. Then he berated the waitress in front of us for being slow to wait on us and not bring us a refill of water. I told him I would like to speak with Louie. He said Louie will do no more for me than he was going to do. I’ve been coming to this Los Barrios my entire life. La Hacienda since it opened, I have never had this type of experience before. So absolutely disappointed and I’m not coming back to this location ever again. Btw we left not getting a refill of our drinks and no apology.

Amazing!

By happyhamster123 |

You can get tex-mex a lot of places in San Antonio, but La Hacienda is the best of the best. Great for couples or family gatherings. There is even an outdoor play area for children to blow off steam while the adults linger. The outdoor seating is inviting with string music in the background and the trees/fans/misters keep things shaded and cool. The indoor ambience is spacious and attractive with archways and very high ceilings. Although the noise level seemed a bit high at first, it in no way impeded being able to converse across the table. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, and the food...Wow! The prices are reasonable, the food is plentiful and delicious. What's not to like?

Great Margaritas!!!

By SSmith5480 |

What a beautiful hacienda style restaurant tucked back in the woods. We enjoined their enchiladas and margaritas. The wait staff was excellent, food was hot and tasty, and the margaritas were cold and strong! What more could you ask for. Great for a weekend lunch and day drinking!

Great HOT Tex Mex food

By bears60 |

The food was Hot and delicious. The enchiladas and puffy tacos are excellent! PERLA , Our server was great! Our tea glasses stayed full. Thank you very much for a great experience. We will return.

Disappointed

By Judy W |

We came here on the recommendation of a friend. The food was wonderful, the service was horrible. Our server barely spoke to us, mixed up our Oder with table next to us, no apology was offered. She never returned to see if everything was ok. Some customer service training might help. Needless to say we were very disappointed.

Typical Mexican food, atypical atmosphere!

By Genarrrrr |

The staff are all personable and fantastic. One of them said I would be blown away by the food, but it was fairly bland. However, there was live entertainment and the outside seating was shaded and welcoming. The whole establishment is beautiful! There is even a playground for kids.

Food is terrible.

By Tish W |

GREAT Atmosphere, great patio area. The food is ATROCIOUS. If you are going to have drinks with a great patio (music on select nights) this is the place. We visited back in March, had the fajitas, overcooked, charred meat..like jerky...we had to laugh about it...Tried again yesterday and someone ordered fajitas again and I warned them, but decided to give them another chance. Same thing, overcooked again, charred, and rubbery meat. Terrible. The refried beans on my plate were crusty around the edges (old beans) and the enchiladas were basic. Fajita meat is definitely not alamo cafe, pappasitos, lupe tortilla meat but same price point. La Hacienda food is not good.

Biz Lunch

By RVargas98 |

Great location for business lunch on the outskirts of town. Beautiful place and very clean restrooms. Good service and good lunch specials. The chips and tortillas are very good. No wait to be seated at lunchtime yet they were plenty busy. All in all a nice setting for good Mexican food.

We will be back soon!

By Kim W |

We dined here last week and had a great time. The restaurant is beautiful and we enjoyed sitting outside. They were able to accommodate our vegetarian preferences and the margaritas were wonderful. We will be returning soon!

Trendy mexican restaurant

By Stephanlee1 |

We had a large family group drop into this place for dinner. The road getting here was torn up and was being traversed by some impatient drivers in the early evening so be aware of that. Parking was plentiful and there were spaces for handicapped but I would recommend you enter from the left parking lot rather than park in the lot on the right side. The wheelchair ride from the right side lot is interesting. Their was plenty of seating outdoors as well as indoors. It had just rained so we opted for the indoor seating. The servers were excellent. No issues with them. They did amazingly well despite the huge crowd. The food was good. I won't be doing backflips over it though. They did bring out the obligatory baskets of nachos and salsa so that helped quell the hunger while our order was being prepared. The design and decor of the place was decent enough. It did feel like a large home. The bathrooms were a mess though. I have seen better bathrooms in a fast food chain. I received word the ladies bathroom was not any better. There is a Chinese looking gal running around who is taking photos and then selling them to you for a "modest" fee. Keep in mind she will have many extra photos of your group so you can probably cut a deal. We offered about 30 bucks for the whole batch which turned out to be considerable. Cheers

Great service

Went on a Sunday evening and was packed. The food was a little pricey but worth it. The service was A-one and quick. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Very good service. The food was delicious! Owner came by and talked with us. Great hospitality, very nice dining outside!

Food and Margaritas just ok

By moon sol |

Be aware that chips are fried in LARD...gross!!! waitress was helpful . Food was average. I will not come back there that is for sure

Fabulous setting

By Almostbrady |

I'll start by saying the setting is amazing. The outdoor patio, lights, misters and fans, play ground etc. the food is average. Edible but not fantastic. The tortillas were from a package and the chips and salsa weren't very good. We had shrimp tropicales and it was good. Margarita wasn't great either. It's kind of pricey, but the setting is worth a return. The hostess wasn't friendly at all, maybe just a bad day.

Average TexMex fare but horrible waitress

By satxdiver |

I went to this restaurant as a member of a group on Thursday evening during the holiday season. There was a large group in the restaurant that were making presentations to members etc so it was very busy and loud. We were seated off to the side behind a short barrier so that I was not able to see the large group. After being seated the waitress did come over promptly to take our drink orders. The drinks were the usual margaritas and beer. I had Dos Equiis in a bottle so nothing unusual. We had to flag down the waitress to put in our food orders. Most at the table (9 of us) ordered the different types of fajitas. I chose the enchilada verdes. I had to ask twice to get another beer, once when she took our food order and then again later flagging her down. At the time of the order I asked for Tobasco sauce which she acknowledged. When the food was delivered I again asked for Tobasco which never came. The enchilada verdes was average and not very hot. It probably had been setting around waiting for the other orders and/or the waitress to pick it up. We had asked at the time of drink orders for separate checks some had partners while others were solo. When she brought out the dinner checks, they were all wrong with charges that others had ordered. We again told her how the checks were to be divided and the second time was a charm. I drove by a number of excellent Mexican restaurants (60% of restaurants in San Antonio) to get here and do not believe I will be back anytime soon. To me what they offer is mediocre dishes and inattentive table servers.

Average Mexican

By Johanne H |

I used to love this restaurant but this visit not as good. Our server was pretty bad never once checking to see if we needed more drinks or water or to see if our food was ok. Had to ask another waitress for our chips because he just never brought them. Most in my party had the fajitas which were ok. Very heavy on the Mexican oregano however. I ordered my favorite chile relleno but it was VERY greasy. House margaritas average. This location does have a nice patio. I think I'll stick with the original Los Barrios on Blanco where the food quality and service is better.

It's just for the looks!

By Cesar |

Went on a Friday night on a date with my wife. Yes, the place look very nice, it had live music...but the food was not good whatsoever. It's a Mexican style food without that particular flavor/seasoning. The margarita that my wife ordered, was made with supposedly tequila...yes sure...tequila (must have to be mixed with water). At the end...the tab...yes, we got ripped off. 1 margarita, 1 Miller Lite, 1 puffy taco platter, & 1 chalupa platter...almost $60.00. I do not recommend this restaurant for anything. I'll rather recommend a Whole-in-the-Wall type of restaurant before this one.

Everyone is family at LaHacienda

By Glynis B |

I took my teacher friends when we visited San Antonio for the Solution Tree conference at the convention center. The owner came by & got in our photos! He found out we drove out from downtown & insisted on sending over some desserts for us to try! We had delicious fajitas, enchiladas, puffy tacos and caped off a great meal with empanadas, sopapillas, tres leeches cake & flan! A great evening!! Thank you for treating us like family!

Great Evening

By Richard J |

The restaurant is deceptively large. They don't take reservations, but we were seating in 20 minutes. Eat at the outdoor bar area to avoid the wait. Great Tex-Mex food and large drinks. Portions are generous.

Disappointing

By lisamarieclarktx |

We were a party of nine. Only 3 of us didn’t have complaints about the food. I ordered the puffy tacos and they were very chewy. Not how I remembered them to be. I will say that our server was very attentive. It’s a beautiful location with seating under a tent to keep warm but still enjoy the patio area. Margaritas were ok. Tortillas were great. I will try it again on my next visit. I think maybe it was an off time to dine.

Just Finished Apology Letter to My Guests

One of those moments in life I wish I could rewind. Forget the extensive money spent, my loss of prestige and trust from my extended family will take longer to get back. I blew it! I should have never picked such a horrible place for such an important family event without doing my homework. Go on Yelp and ready every one star review. That will cover the basics of sub par food, poor service ,dirty establishment and uncaring staff. What I want to convey is the feeling of humiliation knowing that I know my guests know it was a fiasco. When people flee a fifty dollar plus a plate meal, halfway thru, you know it will be a long long time forgetting how badly you were taken advantage of. That I could live with. I`ve been burned before. But to be humiliated as the one who "chose" this locale, will be a long long time living down. I wish I was dead! Literally...

excellent food & service

Excellent food & service! Highly recommend their combination chicken/beef fajita plate for two! Delicious!

Fun & good food

We had our meet & greet for our class reunion. Buffet service for many appetizers & tamales. Drinks were expensive, but good. We were outside and the weather was perfect.

Puffy Tacos

By Daniel L |

Extremely disappointed with my meal. I am used to puffy tacos, what I received was not that. Our Waiter was perhaps new or did not understand. This were not puffy Tacos.

GOOD FOOD AND SERVICE

By Jill V |

We had a reservation for 7 on a Friday night and was impressed when they sat us right away. All the large parties were in one large room and it was a little crowded and noisy making conversation difficult. Service was good, was impressed that all the orders were correct and came out in a good amount of time. I had the enchiladas verdes which were a little dry but okay, I thought things were a little expensive. Huge outdoor area with live music. Not really impressed with the food and ambience.

Great Tex Mex

By Monroe M |

We love Texas Mexican Food. And there is not better place then San Antonio, Texas to experience this treat. Whenever we are in SA we try to go to La Hacienda and this time it was our first stop after landing. I had not been to this restaurant in over a year and it is still great! The chips and salsa come with every meal and are always fresh and hot. If you like frozen margarita order the traditional. Very good and very smooth. For the main course we went with Puffy Tacos, one chicken and one beef. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. I can' wait for my next visit.

Parking is abysmal and food always cold.

By ProfHam |

Bigger does not mean better. We've been going to the original Los Barrios for decades and always loved it. But this place is just a grab for the dollars in my opinion. The inside dining room is loud, sterile, and cold, totally devoid of any charm. And while the patio is very nice, our food always showed up cold. Getting another drink, or even a napkin on the patio is an adventure in waving at waiters who are determined to ignore you, and God help you if you want more chips or salsa. And the parking is the worst of any restaurant I know of in San Antonio. If you have someone with mobility problems don't even think of going here. There are two handicapped spaces that are useful. TWO. How they get away with this is beyond me. The other handicapped spaces are over fifty yards from the front door! And then once you hike another thirty yards across the dining room or forty yards out to the patio they have pretty well made this place impossible for disabled people to frequent. If you want a Barrios food fix then go to the original on Blanco and leave this place to the Stone Oak crowd that doesn't know any better.

Good blood, good value

Went to la Hacienda earlier today. It was a nice day for the patio. My sister had beef nachos and I had the gorditas. I like that their masa is not super greasy. Also I ❤️their mango margarita🍹! They have the play area for kids and on Sunday's there's a singer on the patio. Something for everyone. All in all, a good experience.

Lunch surrounded by the great outdoors!

By freqtraveler354 |

I have eaten here many times before but never on the patio until now. This restaraunt has one of the nicest patios of any restaurant in San Antonio. You are surrounded by big beautiful oak trees and while you are enjoying the view they have fans and misters running to provide a cool breeze. There is an outdoor bar as well built onto this patio. I am so glad I made the decision to eat outside as it was a totally different experience but with the same great food and service. Unlike some mexican restaurants they are also not stingy with the guacamole. I highly recommend the beef fajita nachos for starters and anything ordered after that will also be delicious. Hard to go wrong with any entree here. A must visit if you enjoy patio dining and great food!

Great Facility - Truly Mexican

By Rick B |

Yep, it is a large hacienda. This is not your small strip mall type Mexican eatery. This place is surrounded by land and has a children's playground. If you sit in back of the hacienda you can watch your children playing on the playground while the servers are getting your orders, drinks and food. The food is very good. This place makes you feel good. Spacious seating in beautifully decorated rooms. Great outdoor eating is also available.

1ST AND LAST TIME CUSTOMER FROM OUT OF TOWN

By C T |

As I approached the bar to order a few margaritas for myself, my brother, and sister in law I requested to have two of the margaritas made with Patron Silver instead of the well tequila, although the bartender said he could not, which was ok, but decided to add Patron to all 3 drinks and when I realized he did I informed him again that I only requested 2 drinks get the Patron. Then as he walks away to discard the 3rd shot of Patron that was his error for not paying attention he condescendingly says, “that’s alcohol abuse”, which I replied “what did you just say”? without any reply from him. So, I decided to blow it off so not to let one discourteous employee ruin my first visit to the restaurant with family that I have not seen in years. The icing on the cake though was that the pompous rude bartender charged me for all three shots which infuriated me when I returned home out of town and realized it. As a Certified Executive Chef, the food was OK, but for me the experience and special time to spend with my family was tarnished. I will never return due to this restraint due to the discourteous customer service and unethical business practices I experienced from my first employee interaction. I also reported the experience to a manager, who said she would refund me the charge for the 3rd shot, I never ordered, but the manager was not interested in asking me for the server’s name or that she would have the issue addressed and I am still waiting for the credit to be added to my account. Pay attention to your bar tab receipts if you get something from the bar and as for me, good riddance. I must also add that the waitress that took our order was very pleasant and did a great job and could teach the bar tender a lot regarding the customer service industry.

Huge outdoor patio under a canopy of treea

Beautiful setting, very large outdoor patio with lots of shade under a canopy of trees. We just stopped in for margaritas but looked like a fun place for families.

Family Style TexMex in Lovely Setting

By MillboroGirl |

We visit San Antonio every year, and meet friends at this restaurant because it is well located to where we all are staying and because the food is good, drinks are good, and the ambiance is good. There is a large and varied menu, with lots of unique choices. The drinks are good, the chips are plentiful. Service was a little spotty--but the place was jumping, There is indoor and outdoor seating, and music. This is not gourmet by any means but I consider it better than most chain restaurants. There are no suprises and you get what you think you are going to get-- meaning the food is consistent. There is a lot here to please a group, and that is why we always make sure we meet here!

Noisy --- but tasty

By pushincushin |

Have been here several times over years as I travel this area. Almost always get the puffy tacos as they are excellent. Last visit was around 7pm on weekday, and received worst service ever. There were as many as 7 or 8 waiters and busboys hanging around but it seemed as though I was invisible. And, even though place wasn't crowded, the noise was amazing. Food good but pricey. Patio can be nice, but again pretty noisy. Usually have some sort of music.

Disappointed experience and will not return again.

By Julian H |

On the evening of 7 April my Daughter, Grandson and I went to La Hacienda for dinner and requested that we sit on the outdoor patio. We were placed at a table that appeared that we were out of the service circle. It took about 20 minutes before we got our drinks and over an hour and 15 minutes before we got our meal. The meal was delivered by another attendant and not our server. The attendant was much nicer and attentive. Our meals were not exactly what we asked for, however in an effort to not spend more time waiting we accepted the meals. We were in the forgotten area of the patio. We have been there before and have received much better attention and have had Louis and or Diane visit with us. This day no one was visible not even a manager. For this experience we will not return again. For the cost of the food we certainly would expect more attention to our needs at the table. Very disappointed for this experience and we will not return again.

Don't expect much...

By muenchenscott |

Well, I used to think that I'd found my favorite local Mexican restaurant; It gets positive reviews and at a glance, the atmosphere and menu selection seemed perfect.... But no. Presentation doesn't cut it when you crunch through the tortilla chips that are quite often cold and strangely thicker than most. Nor does your restaurant's atmosphere help to hide the fact that not "ALL" of their food is made at the restaurant. This comes into play when you eat some of their food and find small pieces of rock inside your ground beef and beans. AVOID THE STUFFED BURRITO! If you do end up going here, you might want to avoid the silly exercise of complaining, as that next batch of chips will probably be just as cold and hard has the last batch... And complaining about a broken tooth from eating their food won't get any reimbursement either... that's not part of their presentation or their "customer service".

service

By JulieandGeorge2013 |

We arrived at the restaurant at 8:30pm on a Friday night there were plenty of staff available. We waited at the hostess stand for 6-7 minutes and were never approached. We saw an open table and seated ourselves several staff members walked by but no one ever said a word to us. We finally left and went to another restaurant Lupe Tortilla and had a great meal. The place has a wonderful atmosphere and lg outdoor patio. We have dined here several times over several years and the quality of food and service have been on a steady decline. It is a shame the experience does not match the history and great ambiance.

Very happy

We all enjoyed our lunch. The place was wonderful and the food was very delicious. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. Can't wait to go back!

Loozyly service

The food was boring, the service was even worst, but the patio setting under the beautiful shade trees was delightful.

Great place for a large birthday dinner

By Dave H |

I'm not sure what the other people are complaining about in their reviews. We had a great birthday dinner at La Hacienda on Saturday night. I was worried about the weather as it was misty all day. We had about 35 people coming and they set up two long tables for us out on the covered patio. They even have heaters although we didn't need them this night. We arrived early and didn’t wait long before the area was ready. It was great that the guitar player was close by and provided entertainment. Erica and Gonzalo did a fantastic job taking care of us and our guests. We were buying each guest their first drink and I made drink tickets for each of our guests. I don’t know how they did it, but those two were always there as new guests arrived to take their drink orders in quick fashion. I still don’t know how they found people who ordered drinks as people mingled before dinner. I ordered the combination enchilada platter and they were all good. The food was great and none of the guests had any negative feedback. As the dinner party wound down Erica and Gonzalo made sure guests had their checks as they needed them. I’ve been to other restaurants with large groups where the wait staff seemed out of their league and disorganized. Thank you for providing a team that took care of all of our needs. That really made my wife’s birthday extra special.

Very comfortable place to eat and meet with friends!

The service was just great, friendly and quick and the food was in the real mexican way! I would recommend this to anyone going to San Antonio or living there.

Fun for couples and for families

By Robyn M |

We stopped here on the recommendation of a friend who said this is her favorite restaurant in San Antonio. We were not disappointed. Option to sit inside or outside. Live music outside. Fun for kids (they have an outside playground). Terrific food. Wonderful staff. We'll be back.

La Hacienda

By RoyAviles |

This is a great local Mexican restaurant. It felt busy but we were seated right away on a Saturday evening. The food is great and the live music in our outdoor tent was a great touch. They have QR codes on the table to view the menu but had some disposable upon request.

Large Group Dinner

By Barb125 |

This was a buffet for a large group of people. It is difficult to serve Mexican food in this manner. The food was just average.

Food and drinks below par

By Arthur Z |

Atmosphere is nice but that is the only good thing. Puffy tacos are also very greasy tacos. Just very average and below par Mexican food. Margaritas were just so/so. Have had many that were much better.

Get the puff taco

By Don R |

I’m a huge fan of Mexican food and La Hacienda didn’t disappoint. This was my first experience with the “puff taco” and I am hooked!! We went for a Sunday lunch and the atmosphere was nice and the service was great. The chips and queso were fresh and plentiful. I ordered the beef and chicken puff tacos, and the chicken was my favorite. The corn tortilla on the taco was so flavorful and fresh, and the chicken was moist and tender. The beef taco was good as well, but when I go back I will get the chicken for sure!

Bring The Whole Gang

It was my Mother In Laws birthday so she picked this place because we had a large group. We showed up at 1:00 p.m. to find our reservations all set with the table ready and were seated in minutes. The service was outstanding. The waiter even let us all break up our checks which many will not do with large parties. The food was excellent. We had a mix of all ages from small children to old folks and everyone enjoyed their meal. The atmosphere is so nice. It was outside on the deck under the trees with gentle live music and we all had a very nice time. I am looking forward to going back. I had not eaten there in a couple of years but it won't be that long before our next visit for sure.

This place was super busy and despite that we were seated as soon as we came in, they have live music staff very friendly. Very pleasant atmosphere the food was good and good portions family enjoyed it.

Fun Atmosphere but bad server

By erin p |

Loved the fun relaxed atmosphere. The live music was an awesome experience. Everyone had smiles as they were gathered around with friends and loved ones. Just made you feel good. Has a play ground out side for the kiddos. We had the fajitas and finished off our meal with sopapillas YUM!!! Our server, Selena sadly soured our experience. Had to ask for refills for drinks, chips. (I think she was behind the outside bar eating chips) We could have gotten up and walked out due to her NEVER bring us our bill. Our table was empty....no plates, our drinks were gone...she comes up and ask if we need something....the check would be nice. Not personal. Not impressive.
