Great for Brunch

By MrRitmo |

Fresh pastries, sizeable portions and quality food at a reasonable price. Any location is a good choice.

By Robert C |

Hard sandwich

By Pollie p |

The sandwich they made for me was horrible & hard!!!! I’ve reached out to the company & they emailed me; I responded & they never did anything!! So I will never go back to this restaurant period!!!!

Delicious sandwiches

Great place to have breakfast, brunch or lunch. Sandwiches with a twist. Continental feel. Great food and reasonably priced. Small outdoor seating area. Worth a visit.

Never have anything always just ran out

By Ashley M |

I don't know why but I've tried this location on several occasions and every time have been disappointed. They never have what you want to order they always just ran out according to them. On the latest occasion they didn't have the featured item for the holidays and said they were out for the rest of the holiday season by the was its only December 17th! I asked them why they haven't removed the menus so not to be featuring it everywhere and they acted like good idea but not worth the effort. So the man taking orders has to tell each person they won't have the featured item again this season. Oh and if you aren't prepared with backup choices you must go to the end of the line. Hopefully not all of their locations operate this way. Hesitant to try another location at this point as it's always filled with disappointment. Don't even bother...

New Year's Day breakfast first

Start the New Year's with the breakfast decided to try the French style fantastic Foods great service good cappuccino

A little bit of France, right here in Texas.

On my last visit I had the tomato bisque-wow. I'm never disappointed at La Madeleine.

Great meal

By flogirlatheart |

Stopped in today for lunch. I ordered the salad/soup sampler and choose tomato basil soup, chicken salad, & cranberry, walnut salad. All were very good! The soup was a great consistency and had lots of flavor! The cranberry salad was fresh with just the right amount of dressing. The chicken salad was super yummy! I would recommend! My only regret is not saving room for dessert, as their dessert case was on point!

Lunch or just dessert you can't go wrong.

By HikerChickJane |

Our first stop when we arrived for lunch absolutely delicious. Salads were large with tasty dressings. Stopped back for a variety of desserts and they were all excellent. Good coffee too!

Ok

By Michelle B |

The food was ok. The soups are really good and so is the quiche, the problem was the gnats flying around and trapped in the container that holds the bread. They keep the bread by the drink station that in my experience attracts those types of bugs. It's certainly not the La Madeline at the Galleria in Houston

French faux pas

By Cynthia Ann |

My son and I stopped for lunch and we're disappointed with our dishes. I've been a frequent visitor to many locations in San Antonio and Houston so I'm accustomed to a certain standard of food. The potato soup was grainy and had no flavor. My sandwich served on a baguette and was white because it was undercooked and the hot sandwich was served cold instead hot. The tAbles were full of dirty dishes and they had run out of tea.

Breakfast for children too

By surferjoy1 |

This is such a great restaurant! In addition to the regular adult menu, they even have a children's menu...for breakfast too! Don't miss out on the free fresh baked bread and jam in the table area, it's so fresh and delicious that you may get full just eating the baked bread. Don't miss out!

Great place for a light pleasant meal

The staff here are so friendly. And the food is always good. Love the salad trio. Which allows yoy to also choose strawberries Romanoff or soup as one of your selections akso.

First Time Eating French

By Jacquline A |

We visited last weekend with my husband's great-aunt and great-uncle. My husband ordered the French Dip au Caramelized Onions sandwich which came with salt and pepper chips. I had Pasta la Madeleine that came with a sea salt baguette. We have a tendency to share food; therefore, he realized that he preferred my pasta, but I felt that both dishes were equally delicious. I really enjoyed the sea salt baguette, though. I also had my first legitimate cappuccino which I thought was good. My biggest regret is not trying any of the desserts such as the lemon Madeleines, of course. I definitely liked the look of the restaurant. I have never been to France so I have no idea how accurate it all is, but the fire and antique books were a nice touch.

What happened with the food here?

By Linda L |

I was going to let corporate know how bad the food has gone downhill here. We used to like Madelines. My dad and I went yesterday and both ordered the half duet sandwiches-he ordered the Turkey Brie and I ordered a chicken pesto on ciabatta bun--two sides so I had the Caesar salad and the pasta. I ordered and there were two people ahead of me in line to pay--the lunch was served while I was still in line waiting to pay--that has never happened--did they have these pre made since 6 am? The ciabatta bun was hard as a rock with a stale taste, the Caesar salad tasted like it was washed in bleach and my dad's s turkey brie sandwhich was delivered with half the meat oozing out of the sandwhich. It was a real disappointment--again, they used to be good, but who knows what is going on with La Madelines. It will be a long time before we go back.

Salad Galore

Loved my LARGE Wild Field Salad with a light vinaigrette and cream cheese croissant. Again the service was fast, the food is fresh and the atmosphere is light and friendly. Thanks again for another perfect lunch.

Pass on this location

Everyone got sick. Enough said about this location. Love the chain but this place is off limits for fundamentals.

YUM!

Great food

By 1164jeanneb |

Had crepes for the first time and it was so good my friends want to order it next time. I had creme brûlée for dessert and it was so smooth I wanted a second one.

As expected average lunch- not many GF options

By SpotTVMom |

Stopped for lunch with a friend. I had the chicken and walnut salad. It was fresh and pretty good. I have a few other salads from other spots are better. Not many pretty much just salads and a few soups.

French Bakery

By smh828 |

The food here was very, very good and scrumptious. It is located within walking distance from Comfort Suites Stone Oak. I had Chicken Friand and it was so good...I could've eaten another one. It was a square pastry filled with chopped chicken and mushrooms with a creamy mushroom sauce. Delicious!!

Lots of wonderful eats to choose from: eclares too!

By Magdalene P |

Enjoyed a quiche Lorraine and a delicious eclare here! Some good choices and a popular restaurant. Refills on coffee is appreciated too,

Good Breakfast

By Donktex |

We stopped in for a late breakfast on a whim - we had been to another La Madeline in Alexandria, VA and thought we would try this one. We were not disappointed. It was 9:45 AM and the staff we met were very helpful and courteous (with one exception). The food was well prepared and flavorful. My wife had a Quiche Lorraine and I had a typical American breakfast - both were prepared exceptionally well - it was a causal atmosphere with no hurried motions or pressure to "move on". Perhaps at busier times I may have a different opinion, but at this time of the morning all was "very good" at this property.

Health Department Needs To Inspect

By GypsyEmpress |

As I walked in the door I noticed how dirty the floors were. I was with 3 other associates or I would have turned right around and walked out. The whole place was dirty. I looked into the kitchen as I went to the restroom and it was disgusting. There was food all over the floor that had been walked on, some came from where they were raking off dirty plates. The water where they were washing dishes was scummy and nasty. I had quiche which was so thin there wasn't much to it. The "famous" tomato bisque was tasty but not hot. One person had a salad they liked but all in all everyone said they were disappointed and would not be back.

Very good!

I had dinner here and I came back the next day to pick up pastries for a meeting. The veggie sandwich was very good, and everyone loved the pastries at the meeting. The staff was very friendly!

Wish we had one near home

Very nice lunch experience. Several interesting and tasty combo plates with a full or half-sandwich, soup, and salad. Walk through service with the entree delivered to the table. Ours came warm and promptly.

Repeat customer

By OtherMountainDude |

We've been eating at La Madeleine bakeries around the country for the last 20 years, and when we're on travel to San Antonio, this restaurant. located on US 281 at the FM 1604 interchange, is one of our favorites. The food is very good and the prices are about average. It's not necessarily a bargain, even though the service is semi-cafeteria style, but you don't tip, so the overall price is pretty good. You place your order by going through a line with your tray. You can order from the menu and a server will take down your requests and send them to the kitchen. Or you can pick entirely from the pre-prepared items on a hot bar. Either way is fine, although at off-peak times the hot bar items can get a little "dated". You can usually spot that immediately and make other choices. The coffee is good and refills are free. They keep a bread tray near the coffee bar and bread, jelly, and coffee are also free. The management team that runs this bakery keeps this one in good shape. Everything is clean and inviting. As much as we like this chain, they can be a little uneven in quality, but this one is at the top of the list. If you're used to the way Texas does its expressways then access to this restaurant is very good. If you've never experienced the goofy system of one-way access roads with periodic cross-overs, then getting here can be a little complicated. Once you get there, however, parking is easy, and it's located in a major strip mall with grocery stores, bookstores, other retail, and a large movie theater complex, so you can combine a trip here with other outings.

Awesome Breakfast .. decent prices.

Cool little breakfast spot... the crescents are awesome.. avoid the crepes... very very leathery and weird..

Always Great

By Jack H |

I come to La Madelines a few times a month. They are always good. The service is great and the environment is relaxing. I highly recommend it. I will be coming back much more.

Always a good meal...

By 45Cocojr |

La Madeline is consistent and very good. I love the relaxed atmosphere and the cozziness of the place. The food is always good and tasty! I got a chicken pastry dish and it was wonderful with the mushroom sauce on top. I wish it were a bit hotter (heat wise) but I always get the same thing because it is always great! The restaurant seemed a bit dirty. Not messy...just dusty and dirty floors. But all-in-all ... I always have a great meal at La Madeline!

Take out

By TaurusMom |

Picked up some take out for clients. Service was good. I picked up some quiches and mini croissants and lemon cakes. Very good, and very fresh.

Intersting

By SweetTone |

Better for breakfast or coffee and a snack rather than dinner. I found the chicken crepe ok but would not eat it again.

As close to France as it get's

By CHRISTOPHER L |

La Madeleine located @ Hubener Oaks is a great place to forage. If you have never been to France U need to come here. Of course it is not Paris so to speak but it does have the French Country Cafe motif you should expect. From the Pastries Oh it's really authentic by my taste anyway real Butter Croissants, and too much for my waist line but I do Cheat a bit. A Regular Menu favorite of mine is the Duet Magnifique ask for it I think u will be pleased (Turkey Bistro, Soup, & salad to be exact). If U go in the cooler months try to sit by the eternal fire place it is sure to be warm, and toasty. Any way hope to see you there or write to me here.:-)

Not very French!

By miura74 |

If one has ever been to a French cafe, bistro or patisserie in France, then one should visit La Madeleine prepared for an American coffeeshop experience. The over-the-counter service when ordering is basic, and no frills. The fresh orange juice comes straight from the catering bottle! So classy! Trying to read and order from the menu as you queue is difficult when there are other customers waiting behind you. The cake display looked great, but the cheesecake was quite dull and not exciting to eat. The warm savoury pastries seem to be the best thing about La Madeleine, but they hide these way down the line, so you'll probably have ordered something else by the time you see them. The Croque Monsieur was very tasty, enhanced by a very nice garlic sauce. It was nothing like the Croques you'll find in France or Belgium, because it was made with brown bread and not white toast. This makes it a very saucy and cheesy hot sandwich, not strictly a Croque Monsieur, but quite enjoyable. There were a lot of jars of Tomato & Basil soup on every counter, part of a charity fundraising campaign. La Madeleine is known for this soup, apparently. When sampling a small bowl of this soup the initial taste is not unpleasant. Very creamy. However, the basil is not fresh. Which is unforgivable. If you want the fresh flavour of basil enhanced by the sweet burst of tomato that you might expect to find in a basic French or Italian soup, then do not eat this soup. It tastes very processed, and as if it came fresh from a can. Or in this case, a jar.

Horrible Customer Service!

By Bird818 |

Horrible customer service! We were standing in line making up our mind as to what to order and then when we stepped forward they said it was too late to order breakfast. It was 1 minute after!!!

Bad food

By Evelyn H |

Put our dine in order in the to go area. Food got cold, when told they took food out of to go containers and dumped on a plate. We told them food was cold so they heated, dried out food and over cooked bread. Bad manager overseeing indifferent staff.

Lunch

By dippie |

Always consistent food and service. Salad is great. Hubby had French toast and loved it. Even had chocolate milk. Good coffee.

Slow

By Emily Ann |

The set up was incredibly awkward because you order where the hostess stand would be so there is a huge back up at the front door. There was also only 1 gf option for breakfast which was frustrating

A French Luby's?

By neuroshrink |

Okay so this is a French Cafeteria--you grab a tray, order your food from the counter, pay, and they deliver it. The prices should get you table service, but no... Okay, so what is good about it? You pour your own drinks, so drinks are unlimited as long as you don't mind fetching tem yourself. French bread and butter unlimited as well, next to the drinks. No one complained about the food. The deserts were good as well. If you want French fast food, this is an acceptable choice. Not a date resturaunt-you would come off too cheap. ;-)

Before movie, got a quick bite

By meevans53 |

The food was quite good. I got a 1/2 sandwich, salad, & a cup of soup the reason I didn't give a 4-5 star is because the person taking the order was rude & condescending. After I got pass his rudeness, the staff behind the food line were very helpful. What this location needs to understand is, the 1st person the customer meets sets up the expectation and experience. We almost left, but we decided to stay. Food was good and fast.

Good French style food.

By JR Treviño |

Nice surprise for a franchise restaurant. Good onion soup and pasta salad. The sandwich not one of the bests I have tried. A good place for something different.

Nice

By JEM_one |

Great for lunch. Atmosphere was very nice. Cold day so I sat next to the fireplace. Food was good. Since it was my first time their and mentioned it to the staff I expected a different service, more helpful and inviting from staff. Though that does not take away from the atmosphere and food. Yes I would return.

Great place for fast, hot, cheap, good food

By Lv2rdtrip |

La Madeleine is a great place to go if you are short on time and/or cash and looking for a hot a meal. You can order off the menu or from their pre-made line (quiches, pastries, salad bar). This was the first time I had been to this restaurant, ordered the Quiche Lorraine, was a bit apprehensive when I saw it was on the pick up line, but it was hot and flavorful, NOT overcooked or lukewarm like most foods on pick up lines. Very affordable and the pastries are great too ;)

Great food, but priced highly for cafeteria service.

By Andrew S |

I love this La Madeline. Even during the lunch rush, the interior stays calm and welcoming, and when I come outside of the lunch hours, this is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable experiences I have found as far as restaurants go. The food is wonderful here, and really, unlike anything else available in the area, particularly at that price point. The Croque Monsieur is a little greasy, but really, that's how they're supposed to be, since it's basically mayonnaise and cheese slathered on the outside of the bread. The tomato bisque is amazing, as are the quiches; my wife is more of a salad person, and she really enjoys the salads here, but she has been known to have a sandwich from time to time as well. I have never seen this location be unclean, as was mentioned in some of the other reviews. Usually, my table is cleared as I am leaving. The one thing that confuses me about this location is that sometimes they have a staff member taking orders at the front of the line near the menus. I know this probably reduces time taking orders, but it makes the line servers seem unnecessary. I don't mind waiting a few extra seconds to just place my order at the counter. I love this location, and always look forward to going back.

Good food, dirty restaurant

By Zell |

We stopped going to this La Madeline over a year ago because the floors and the environment always looked dirty. Recently we decided to try it again. As usual, the food was quite good. However, the floor was very dirty and looked as if it hadn't been mopped in a long time. The tables weren't cleared and presented an overall negative impression. There were napkins on the floor and trash on the floor in the women's bathroom. Granted they don't have table service, but surely they have staff to keep the restaurant cleaner. I wonder what the kitchen and food preparation areas look like. I have not found these conditions to be the norm in the other La Madeline restaurants in the city.

Primo food!

By SnargyBoy |

If you're a foodie who enjoys quality you'll make it here as soon as possible! The displays of large varieties of desserts and breads are amazing! Quiches, potato galettes, amazing soups and salads are yours for the asking. Bring your appetite and take the time to enjoy!

Won't go back

By ldandbc |

I went with my parents, husband and sister. All with the exception of my little sister (who had a kids pizza) hated our food. The service was horrible. We were rushed through the line and I was even asked to stop blocking the view of the pastries!!! I was going to order one but had to move along, but I guess I should be thankful that I saved my money. Would never go back and would not recommend to anyone.

Great soups, especially...

By Valerie P |

Great soups, especially the French onion, and the Caesar salad dressing tastes like it's made on site.

Love it

Awesome decision by my friend. The fire was welcome in the cold weather & the food choices were great. Staff were friendly & helpful. I'm sure I'll manage to come back before I leave :-)

Tres Magnafique

By DanaQuinn |

Walking in, you are truly greeted with am authentic French cafe with its French country chic decor and beautiful stained wood trim and accents...keeping true to its French country charm not to mention the aroma of fresh baked bread. The coffee was smooth and delightful. I tried their famous raspberry filled butter cookie...devine. We tried the Croque Monsuier Magnafique...it was prepared perfectly. The bread was toasted and crusty. Very sad the closest one to my home is 2.5hrs away!

Excellent branch of this restaurant

By profmom57 |

This is an exceptionally well managed branch of La Madeleine. The staff is friendly and attentive, the place is spotlessly clean, and the food is well prepared. I usually get the salad sampler, and it never fails to disappoint.

Style and flavour

By CarlitosDuke |

Simply lovely. Nice yummy food and with very good prices, the staff was very friendly. Apart of the nice stuff, if you go the toilets you will have a small lesson of French throughout speakers. Recommended.

A good snack

By cloud_chaser1 |

Strange pseudo cafeteria bakery setup. Great food and atmosphere. The potato soup was somewhat boring, however the rest of our meal was tasty. Would return again, if only to have dessert again. The mini tarts were a perfect way to taste multiple varieties.

Good Food Served Quickly

By Nancy P |

If you don't mind waiting in line to place your order, this is a good place for a very casual breakfast, lunch or dinner. Once you place your order, your food is brought to your table. This restaurant is part of a large chain, and a lot of these restaurants are in shopping malls. Fresh salads, soups, quiches, and other dishes are available and your meal can be finished with some wonderful dessert options. The seating area is pleasant and does not give the feel of a fast food restaurant. We always enjoy our meal here.

Crowded at lunch on a Saturday

By Traveldiive |

La Madeline is pretty consistent in their food, good and fresh. We went around noon on a Saturday and there was a line to get in. Once we had our food our family had to sit at two different table. the location is in a shopping area and there is parking. Go a little earlier to avoid the crowds.
