I had the carnitas which were some of the best I've had. Tender & flavorful. The margaritas were outstanding & come in a variety of flavors. The service was exceptional. The sopapillas were oh so good.

Thoroughly enjoyed our food and the margaritas. In the heart of the market square. We opted for first available table so we were inside. Outside tables are a wait but you do get the hustle and bustle atmosphere to watch as well. Food was great and lots to choose from. Can’t comment on authenticity as we’re from the UK and to us was so much better than Mexican restaurants served at home!

Great service. Accommodating staff. Food was delicious. Waitress was friendly. Food arrived promptly and hot.

I went here firstly with people that I’d meet while staying at Mayan Monkey Hostel. The food that all 4 of us had, was outstanding and bloody tasty! I had the langosta (small version of lobster) pizza, and WOW was it tasty! Not over priced, well cooked, and not small portions! I went back again, (while on a date!) and yet again the food blow my mind! The service is excellent too!

Went here for dinner and so worth the 30 minute wait! The atmosphere inside the restaurant was a wonderful buffet between you and the amazing block party going on in the Market. Everyone was so polite! The staff are just wonderful. They had our dinner out to us so quickly, we thought it was a different tables food it came that quick! There was nothing that we ordered that wasn’t delicious! Go enjoy the Market and eat at La Margarita!

Wait times are very long, wouldn't mind the wait for good food. The food was bland, the ranchero beans were not cook through, and the seating was awkwardly placed right where servers come out.. so servers kept passing by me. San Antonio has great places to eat, such as the little taco stands right outside the restaurant. On a side note: a little to West of the restaurant is the "original" Michelada stand, if you like this type of drink I highly recommend.

Overall this was a nice place to eat lunch while visiting the market. We ate outside an had raw oysters and a mix of Mexican entrees. Drinks were ok and reasonably priced. We did not have dessert. Ambiance was great. Service was very good. Food quality was very good. We had some issues with our bill but they were minor. Huge menu.

Traditional Mexican and TexMex favorites. We dined here during Thanksgiving week. Excellent service and great food. Good location adjacent to the shops and stores of the Market between Commerce and Market streets.

Great Mexican food! We had lunch - we each had one of the combo plates. The refried beans and guacamole were wonderful and the service from Hector was top-notch! What an elegant gentleman! Thank you!

Found La Margarita's back in 1985 when I came down to San Antonio house hunting. I LOVE their beef fajitas! I get a combo plate with a taco, beef fajita, cheese enchilada, tamale with rice and beans if I want a variety...otherwise it's the beef fajitas! Our waiter was quick, brought refills without us asking, he received a well deserved tip! Can't wait to go back!

Service was slow, food had no flavor. Definitely better places to go. Been there before so looked forward to going back, but no more. Not worth it.

They brought out a small bowl of chips and one small bowl of salsa. The bowl literally had 12 tortilla chips in it. We ran out in 30 seconds. We ordered queso and a couple of margaritas. The margarita was pretty good but again, they brought us just a few chips. We had to ask for chips 5 times to have enough to finish our $10 bowl of queso. Inexcusable for a patron to run out of chips at any Mexican restaurant. Lucky I gave it 2 stars.

Right in the heart of the market square, lively, and with live mariachi on some (or most?) evenings. This can be quite loud--so creal onversation is difficult. Good standard fare and some specialties (try these). A range of margaritas, of course, avoid the sweet ones. Very good service, even when crowded. Also a bar with stools. Reasonable prices. Also family friendly.

Located in the Historic Mexican Market, La Margarita has some of the best Mexican food in San Antonio. Excellent variety of Tex-Mex cuisine as well as some surprise specialty items like Shrimp & Oyster Campeche. The Margaritas are some of the best I have had. Indoor and outdoor dining with get atmosphere and service in both locations. Oh yes, the salsa is the best.

A popular place obviously as it was packed, yet without a booking we got a table. Except the young girl at the entrance, the staff was courteous and efficient during dinner. Mariachi are there to entertain customers, playing and singing all the evening long. Don't expect to have a business conversation... Large selection of food at reasonable price ($25) for a main, but the quality was disappointing. The nachos were really basic, the guacamole ok, the fajitas average, the rice and the beans were good. We also tried the cabrito/kid goat and it was ok, sorry but no more than this. Portions are generous, Texan style... Beers and margaritas available of course. Average overall quality indeed.

Located in the La Marketa area of downtown San Antonio, La Margarita is an amazing restaurant. First thing that stood out to me was the hospitality, from the hostess to the servers, everyone was very friendly, courteous, and attentive. Our server (who's name I regret forgetting) was amazing, he treated us very good, giving us recommendations. The atmosphere is great, it's lively. The decor is typical of Mexican restaurants, but it has awesome outdoor seating. The food is great, full of flavor. I had the chicken enchiladas in mole sauce, it was just one the best tasting food. Our server kept bringing chip and salsa and the margaritas are some the best I've had anywhere. Overall, La Margarita Restaurant is great place to meet, for drinks, family gatherings, a date, or just lunch, so when in downtown San Antonio go give it a chance, it's worth a visit. I'll be heading back soon!

Bueno!! Great food, superb service and entertaining. After being ushered in to a corner nook, the waitress took our order. The mariachi band was playing and singing non stop. Then the wonderfully, fresh and tasty meals arrived. All i can say is WOW! Tastebuds exploded. Definitely worth the trip.

My friend and I recently visited La Margarita for dinner while visiting San Antonio. This excellent restaurant is located in a Mexican themed area in San Antonio known as Market Square. The food, service and ambience are all at a very high level. If you're in San Antonio for a visit or if you live there and have never been, you must consider La Margarita for a wonderful dining experience. I wouldn't hesitate to return for dinner whenever I'm in San Antonio.

Great spot for eating along the walk way! Highly reccomend the enchiladas de pollo en mole and the enchiladas tres colores!

Varied menú, plate sizes and vegetarian options which do not let you Hungry. Nice dessert options. Good beers and delicious margaritas. There was a festival going hence not easy to tell the part of the ambience due to that, but certainly it was a delicious dinner in a well service restaurant, suited for families an friends.

Our service was good, and it was nice to sit outside, but other than that skip this place. Chips and salsa were bad, steak was fatty with no flavor, and sides just tasted like chunks of onions. There are so many other good restaurants. We went here last minute and thought it would be OK with a 4 star rating on Trip Advisor, but our meals were just not well prepared.

My visit at this restaurant was very unpleasant. The food was horrible. I was reluctant and chose not to try the drinks. The wait staff member seemed to be brand new. Meaning he was not experienced. This restaurant gets no love from me and I will not recommend anyone to dine there. Services were not on point.

To start out let me say this...expect to wait for a table. I can't say that there is always a wait but we were told 2 hours for a table, there were six of us. Located iin The Market downtown, indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside, there was music and dancing. We ordered a family plate for four on the advice of friends and added extra rice and beans, this was plenty for six of us. The food was amazing, great flavor and the platter came with ribs, chicken, sausage, fajitas I think, potatoes, chorizo and cheese stuffed poblanos. The tortillas were real mesa and fresh, chips and salsa also good, they have hot so just ask for it if what they bring to the table isn't spicy enough. The margarita's are very good, the traditional ones are just ok but the specialty ones are very good. The service was good and the atmosphere not to be beat. Lots going on in the market with bands playing, shopping and people watching. This will be our new go to place when we want good Mexican food downtown, it's not on the riverwalk proper but well worth the few blocks travel and a whole different vibe than the riverwalk. More low key , laid back and friendly.

I am so sad that the food was so expensive and we were turned away after a $200 dinner for 10. We wanted to stay and enjoy the mariachi music and we refused drinks. They have a 3 beer rule- this is new. They lost a lot of money on us for New Years. I will no longer take my friends from out of town to this landmark. So sad and disappointing.

Can't go wrong in our opinion eating here, and everything is very good. This time we ate inside due to the heat, had a shared quesadilla, excellent, flavorful, filling for two, especially with chips and salsa on the table. Service is always fast and attentive, and you can even get serenaded by a threesome at tableside if you wish. Fun place to relax and enjoy great food. See you next trip!

After waiting 45 minutes to get seated, we were disappointed. We felt rushed to order, then one meal was forgotten (but still listed on the bill) and we had to ask 3 times for a drink refill. Food was ok, but nothing special. Will not be back. There has to be something better out there somewhere.

Nice place. Food and service were both great. Full bar with cordial bartenders. Weekends are a bit crowded, so you might have a wait for a table bit it's worth is!

This place offered both standard Tex Mex and some traditional Mexican dishes. The puffy tacos are really good. Would recommend if you are visiting the Historic Market Square.

Classic mexican restaurant in downtown San Antonio. I always get the chicken enchiladas when I come here. I never have to wait long to get a table. Food came out pretty quickly. The chips and salsa they bring are very plentiful. Chips are just right. The mexican rice is moist, not dried out or overdone. They have big portions. My only thing would be they need a few more choices if food. A little more variety. Waiter was friendly but needed to check on us a bit more.

Once a stalwart place to go has become a don't bother. Mini menu and MAXI PRICES. It used to be that the menu reflected the diversity of San Antonio. Now it is just another Mexican restaurant. Over 20 yrs I have come here. Food that they have is still good but not what it used to be. Sorry San Antonio .

Came not long after they opened .bean and rice were cold .tacos just so so .have better Mexican food In Tennessee. This has been the only place we have not liked the food on our Texas trip

My husband and I got the chicken fajita for 2. It was huge. Very good, moist chicken, but I would have liked more sautéed vegetables. Rice was kind of dry. I made reservation on line for a Sat night, and got in immediately. The Magnifica Margarita was spot on for my taste. Great place to dine after browsing through the Mexican Marketplace and surrounding stores.

Ate here for lunch when shopping at the Market Square. Excellent margaritas & food. Nice staff. Would definitely eat here again.

Service was great,no waiting around 4:00pm The Don Julio Margaritas are sooooo gooood. Definitely going back for more

I am from San Diego, and this was the best Mexican food that I had in San Antonio. My husband i plant-based and the kitchen made him vegetable fajitas which he enjoyed. They made a special effort to make him happy. Good service. Nice outdoor patio. I had chicken flautas which were quite good.

Ate here for dinner with a larger group of people and opted for a shared platter. Food was excellent and there was plenty of it. Even the tortillas stood out. Pretty good selection of tequila as well. Would certainly eat here again.

Good Tex Mex dining complete with mariachis and next door to the Mi Tierra Bakery. A authentic experience for guests to our fair city. A bit more expensive than places we locals frequent but well located downtown and the food has been good for decades. I always take out of town guests to places like this for a good meal and experience

We just walked in. ORDER THE PARRILLADAS ESTILO LA MARGARITAS. Wow. All the best of the best. We chowed. We shared. The food was terrific and our wait staff was wonderful, speedy, and concerned. We ordered pitchers of margaritas as well. Just a real good time with friends and good food.

Stopped for a margarita as was told it was the best in town- wrong! Very average. Had strolling musicians that will play a song for 10$. How cheap is that! A Mexican restaurant that is in this area, and touted as being so good, should have them strolling and playing for the entertainment of the customers. Disappointing.

After shopping until we dropped the La Margarita was like a beacon for wherry travelers. It felt so good to sit in the open plaza and order a cold beer. The lunch was the Tuesday special and it was so good it set me on the trail of looking for a Mexican cookbook.

We didn't want more than a light lunch so we ordered tacos and enchiladas. They came quickly. They were tasty and fresh and a bit more on the "real Mexican" side than TexMex with a lot of extra stuff and swimming in sauce. Excellent, friendly service, which seems the norm in MX places here in San Antone, and what would be a very good price where I live. I haven't eaten in MX places here enough to know if this was a bargain or just a good price locally.

My mom had tamales and I had the sour cream enchiladas. Although the taste was amazing, the after effects not so much. Both of us took several trips to the bathroom. I will say, the frozen margaritas were excellent and the wait staff efficient.

The food, service and entertainment were great at La Margarita. There are many varieties of margaritas on the menu. The chef's special of the day was excellent.

If you like old style Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas, served on a large hot plate, made with REAL cheddar cheese inside and out (not liquid cheese product of some sort), red corn tortillas, covered with delicious chili con carne (and at our request topped with chopped onions), La Margarita should be your destination. It’s comforting to know this legendary place still turns them out so consistently excellent after all these decades. And the refried beans and Spanish rice are every bit as good, and perfect companions. Flavorful guacamole in a red tortilla bowl rounds out the plate. The standard order comes with two enchiladas, but for a nominal amount, I ask for one extra. That’s really too much food, but I eat every bite. My wife, and I think most folks, will find the regular order plenty. The iced tea (unsweetened in our case) is as good as you could hope for on a hot Texas day. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, and couldn’t have been better. As the cheese enchilada dinner is the reason we’ve come here for so many years, I can’t comment on other food or drink, but in our experience, this Tex-Mex plate is as sure a bet as I know. I’ve heard some equate this restaurant to a tourist trap, which I believe is completely unfair. While indeed it’s in Market Square, a heavily trafficked tourist destination, this great place is the absolute real deal. Yes, at times festive, with Mariachis strolling the tables (not a bad thing). Yes, extremely busy, especially during weekends, holidays, and Summer. But that in no way detracts from the quality of this standout restaurant. A San Antonio Tex-Mex must!

We used to love this place but even though we still gave it 4 stars it’s down from 5. The menu needs to be freshened up a bit and I didn’t like the way we we’re rushed through. Food wasn’t cooked enough even though I requested well done. We went twice and tried different things. The salsa is great but the mole sauce is a bit sweet. Beef enchiladas were good but he cheese needed to be browned. Chips are fresh but again, we felt very rushed. Still good, just not great.

In the past we have always gone to La Margarita during fiesta. This time the food was horrible the Parrida for two had one short rib which was all fat the sausage was a 1/4 cut in half. The ceviche was all ketchup couldn’t even eat at all but didn’t complain because server was already speed thin. Then no priced the next day that we had been charged $10.00 more for the Parrida We will not be returning back the food was the worse I have had anywhere.

except for its location this is an overpriced very mediocre Mexican restaurant. Tourists are happy to pay these prices but locals know that there are better places to eat at half the price. There are a number of Jalisco places around Broadway that you can have better enchiladas.

I had dinner here. It was very crowded, with an hour wait... until I went to the bar. Ordered food a the bar as well as a mango margarita. The food was okay as was the margarita, but the service was outstanding given how busy they were. It was a tourist place. Disclaimer: I had amazing Mexican food earlier in the day at a place where no one spoke English, so that was a high bar to overcome.

After a long day of commuting and issue with our hotel, we decided to eat at this location. We have always passed it by but never stopped. It is a great place to eat! The outside patios are perfect to eat, converse with family and friends and view the San Antonio entertainment that goes on at the Market Square. Our waiter Daniel was nice and tended to us promptly. Our food was amazing. The green enchiladas we so good. We also tried the seafood enchiladas and those were amazing! You can’t leave with out trying the sopapillas. And they sang happy birthday! Try it out and enjoy the view!!!

Wonderful dog friendly restaurant in the middle of the Market. Great food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere. It is a place you should try.

WORST Mexican food I have ever experienced in my life!!! Dry fajitas, bland sausage, reheated beans!! The worst!!! Service was very good but so disappointed in the quality of food!! Will never return even if free!!! Huge let down!! Do better!!!

Great atmosphere, great service and probably the best Mexican food we've ever had. We loved it so much we went back for dinner again the next day.

We have been coming here for the Enchiladas Acapulco which were unique to other San Antonio restaurants and we were disappointed by the change in sauce. It used to be served with a cream sauce and is now served with a tomato sauce. The taste is ok but not “to die for” as it was before! When I asked the waiter about the change he stated that it’s always been red. I understand Covid has changed the menus of many restaurants and they have even limited their menu selections but don’t lie and say it’s always been that way. Maybe if you’re new to it but I’ve had the dish for over twenty years! Needless to say we won’t be coming back since it was the only unique item on the now limited menu we couldn’t get elsewhere. Bring back the sauce!!!

A group of 6 of us went for lunch. I had lived in San Antonio 13 years a while back and this place used to be very good. Well. It used to be very good. The food was bad and overpriced and wished I could have taken the whole lost hour back. There are way too many other places to eat in San Antonio so don’t waste your time or money

We made a reservation through Open Table following reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. The ambiance is authentic and the service was hospitable. We ordered our lunch - fajitas and were surprised at how quickly the food arrived. The combination of chicken and beef was perfect. The only omission was sour cream and cheese (I know, not authentic). The lime margarita was delicious! A great restaurant in a wonderful location.

Their margaritas are excellent. Chips and salsa also very good. We just sat at the bar so can’t attest to the food. But the margaritas are highly recommended!

We had a spectacular meal and evening at this gem of a restaurant. Our server was Enrique and he is the best. The manager came over a few times to ask us how everything was. The food tasted great and the service was out of this world.

La Margarita was recommended by a friend who had lived in San Antonio. So glad we went there on our first visit to the city. The margaritas were indeed very good, and our meals were delicious. Our server, Alejandro, was very likable and friendly and his food recommendations were excellent. My husband ordered the goat, and it was quite good. The ambiance is nice too. A good place for a great meal.

Friendly staff, and food was really good. We had fish tacos, chicken tacos and Acapulco margarita was really good. Went on a Wednesday afternoon and place is not crowded.

We were in a huge hurry and they were expecting reservations. We told them we were going to eat and run. They graciously sat us immediately and we were ready to order. The food came out and was delivered very fast. Great atmosphere in the middle of the market.

We were on a motor coach (bus) tour from the Chicago / Wisconsin area visiting sights in South Texas and after our excellent tour of the city we were dropped off at the El Mercado for lunch. Our local "step on guide" recommended the La Margarita. We were seated at a table for eight. The young waitress was not very helpful. There was little to no conversation with her. The time between our order being taken and the time it was served seemed a little long but that may have been due to the size of our group. The food was like every other Americanized Mexican restaurant, although it is a step above national fast food Mexican eateries. I had a bowl of menudo. The broth was tasty but the tripe was not a fresh as I'd like it to have been. The restaurant is large, glitzy and quite noisy. I noticed in other reviews that diners had enjoyed the strolling mariachi band. The band strolled through our area, strummed a few chords but never stopped to play a song. I'm hesitant to use the term tourist trap but it's pretty close to it.

Busy place within the market. Multiple food options. Though vegetarian options were limited, the chef was kind enough to customize our Quesedillas to be vegetarian. Taste wise - ok. Cost wise on the higher side. Plenty of seatings outside where we sat and listened to the live music.

Fabulous dinner came with my sisters and had a blast....food was hot ( Tex-Mex) ....service was great

Food was absolutely delicious, I got El Favorito and everything was perfect. Great music, service was quick and friendly. Margaritas are delicious as well!

The mariachi band was great! Great atmosphere! The food was a huge disappointment. We ordered beef fajitas. Next time we’re in San Antonio, we Will listen to the locals on good Mexican. Even the chips and salsa were bad. Not worth it in my opinion.

Food was very good. Staff very friendly and attentive. Very clean. I would eat here again if in area. I did not get a chance to try margarita but sure wanted one.

We went here a couple years again as an alternative to Mi Tierra(same owners). We were very impressed with the food and service so we were looking forward to this visit. There was a 45 minute wait but you can get drinks in the bar. Service was excellent but they only have a limited menu. And they were out of oysters(was looking forward to the most). Cheese enchilada was good but a little pricey. Guess everything is nowadays. The pork was tough and lacked flavor. Very good hot sauce and homemade tortillas. Good ambience.

Got there was told 35 minute wait. Took our phone number and was told they would text us when table was ready. Text us our table was ready. Hostess told us she couldn’t find our name. Showed her the text, seemed confused. Look again. Finally 15 minutes later said she would get a table. Gave us a table inside next to where servers went in and out the door. Cold draft area non stop. No table should be in this location. Waitress did a good job. Food was average. Not worth the wait time

We had a great variety of food on our table. Food and service were both very good. Prices reasonable for a resort area. Quick in and out for lunch. Enjoyed it very much!

We visited La Margarita with our group L3 for lunch and it was great. Excellent Mexican food of all types and great service as well. The setting was great and Mr. Fisher gave an excellent lecture on the history of San Antonio. Excellent service. Excellent Margaritas as well!!

Visited the market square in San Antonio. The plan was to eat at mi Tierra but ended up at la margarita. I think they are owned by the same people? We had nachos with beef and chicken and combo quesadillas. Both were really good. The highlight was the hot sauce. My favorite kind! Not to spicy but great flavor. Chips were good too.

Amazing food and location. On a Sunday I sat outside and watched a live show while enjoying a huge margarita. Excellent service and very reasonable prices

The Tex-Mex food was excellent. The service could have been a tiny bit friendlier. The atmosphere on the outdoor patio was amazing!

We were traveling with a large family group. We were intending to eat at Mi Tierra, but the wait was really long so we tried this instead. We are so glad we did! We had a fantastic server and the food was excellent! We will definitely be back!

Outdoor seating, great service, and delicious food! Each of the four people in my party enjoyed what they ordered. The sliced beef was amazing in taste and tenderness and the Tex-mex covered burrito and the fajitas were shared and enjoyed by all. We ordered cheese dip and enjoyed it as well. Large portions are served here.

Snagged a table at the rail so we could watch passers-by. It was Sunday so very busy with people enjoying the sunny day, street entertainment and vendors. Large regular and mango margaritas were 8.95 each. Enchiladas de Mole was 12.25 and Enchilada de Queso 10.75. Both very good. Server Juan was efficient, pleasant and let us take our time to enjoy the day.

The drinks were great & happy hour specials were awesome! The food was yummy too! If you’re at the market definitely stop in this awesome little restaurant/bar:

This place was recommended to me years ago and I ate here at 1987. The fajitas were recommended to me and they were awesome. I was hoping to have a little more than fajitas and they had some thing on the menu. I had beef fajitas, along with a Beef Taco and enchilada. The whole plate was awesome!!!

We had lunch at La Margarita, which is a Mexican restaurant and oyster bar located downtown San Antonio on the Historic Market Square. It is possible to eat outside, weather permitting. The food is typical Mexican with an extensive menu. We had some great Mexican food and drink and enjoyed excellent service too.

Had a very nice dinner here. Reasonable prices. Good food. Enjoyed the margaritas. Great ambiance. Mariachi group a little too loud for my taste but added to ambiance. Attentive service . Great seafood tacos.

To begin with... the beer thrown away or misfortune comes in frozen glasses, which make for a better experience. To eat, already with what they bring of sauce and nachos to chop while one waits is already much! We ate ceviche, very well prepared and Campechanas. Both dishes did not enchant. The place is very nice, good setting. Very warm and friendly staff.

Chips and hot sauce are a deal breaker for us. We were part of a large group non family. Not enough salsa and chips were in tiny bowls and crumbly.Flautas were great!

Friends, the hubby & I decided to take a Sunday drive to San Antonio for lunch. We stopped in at La Margarita since we ate here the first time we visited San Antonio. It was awesome the first time, but I didn’t write a review. I had to this time as this restaurant is MAGNIFICENT!! I had Enchiladas Acapulco and a huge mango margarita. You can’t go wrong at this restaurant. Yummy!

We had lunch here. Oscar was our waiter and did a good job. We enjoyed their enchilada verdes and chalupa with chicken.

Everything was good and the service was excellent. Salsa and chips flow freely, but if you'd like to try their other salsa's just ask and they will bring you 2 others. Watch out....one of them is truly hot and spicy...but oh so good!

Table side guacamole is a must! Extremely loud environment with the mariachi band, so be prepared. The mariachi band also charges a fee. Food has always been fresh and tasty. Definitely worth a trip.

Typical Mexican food, nice to sit on the patio area under umbrellas and watch people in the Market Square area. Fajitas and margaritas were good, staff was attentive. Had strolling Mariachi band and gentleman taking pictures if you like.

The location in the heart of the market is fantastic. You have to be willing to accept a lot of crowds and noise, but for us, that just made it festive. We were given an outside table as requested and sat on the main market row. There are also outside tables on the side of the restaurant that are quieter. The food was standard Mexican-American food with tacos, enchiladas, burritos, etc... It was good, but wouldn't call it great. Reminded me of the old Chi-chi's chain restaurants. Adequate for a good time if you are in the market.

I had not been to La Margarita in over 20 years but it is still a great place to eat. Chips and salsa were so so but the fish tacos were excellent as well as the puffy tacos my wife had.

The food and people are always good. One of my favorite places to eat in San Antonio. I always get the cheese enchilada plate. It goes great with a frozen margarita.

Family friendly with both indoor and outdoor seating. staff is friendly and professional. Menu is typical tex-mex with guacamole salad, flautas, tacos, enchiladas etc... While I enjoy love music, the Marichi was just sooo loud. I put my ear plugs in. Good place for a southwest feel in San Antonio, esp if you're already in Market Square. everything tasted fine but nothing to write home about either.

Don’t waste an hour and a half waiting for Mi Tierra . This restaurant has the same owners and the same great quality . Authentic tastes . Very reasonably priced. Overall great experience

Our last visit was 15 years ago, and it could have been last week. Nothing has changed. We went for the fajitas, and the frozen margaritas. In fact, after strolling for a while, I had to stop back for another margarita. Well, it was hot you understand. On top of delicious fajitas and drinks, as fortune would have it we were deluged with young kids, some pre-teens, dressed in costumes and singing traditional Mexican songs. One little kid serenaded the wife and gained 5 bucks from it. She's a pushover for brown eyes.

Frankly, it is not the best Tex-Mex I have had, but then I lived in Texas for a bit. However it was fun for a group of friends.

Loved the mid day happy hour. Table side guacamole was so good. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with food and drink choices. I would give him a shout out but he didn’t have a name tag on

Great Mexican good. A bit crowded but the food and service is good. Right on market square. Will definitely eat back.

All the atmosphere and liveliness of a big Mexican restaurant. Several dining rooms and a big bar. Tons of food and cocktail items - something for everyone. Fun with a big group. Not sure I’d go for an intimate dinner or if I couldn’t handle the noise level.

Whilst visiting the area had heard good reviews about the restaurant so thought we’d visit. Whilst the restaurant was busy we were quickly seated and served. I ordered seafood enchiladas and my friend had chicken fajitas. These were not cheap but tasty, hot and well sized. We also had cocktails which were very good (the prickly pear margarita especially!) The mariachi band who performed whilst diners ate was nice to listen to. Whilst it is more of a “Western” Mexican restaurant we enjoyed it, would go back if ever in San Antonio and would recommend to others.

Wanted to write a review and when I logged on to Trip Advisor, I noticed I had written a review of this restaurant about 7 years ago. What a difference time makes. We were a group of 6, coming downtown to a late night event. One of the couples suggested La Margarita and was able to get a reservation on a Saturday night. Me and my wife always comment on how we wish that the downtown restaurants that cater to tourist would offer a better quality of food at a reasonable price. We do a lot of traveling and we say we don't mind paying a little more for food and touristy areas, but don't like getting substandard food. Well it looks like La Margarita has found out this combination. As a local ( lived here since 1960) we are aware of the history of La Margarita and that many tourist are attracted to eat here. We were quite surprised on our dining experience. Being able to get a reservation on a Saturday night was great. Our service was excellent, and at no time did we feel pushed to hurry up eat and leave. The margaritas were very good and actually reasonable priced. Each of our meals were prepared well and none of the dishes were unreasonably priced. I say the short ribs on the menu and really wanted them, but had a bad experience recently at another restaurant. The waiter told me that these ribs would be very good, so I went with his recommendation, and found them to prepared very well with a lit of flavor. It seemed as if the wait staff enjoyed what they were doing and worked as a team to make sure the customers were have a great dining experience. All in all we all enjoyed our dining experience here and felt that both locals and tourist would also

Great Mexican food. Fair prices and prompt service. Good drinks. Watch out, most places in San Antonio tourist area are automatically charging gratuity.

A very fun vibe! But that’s as positive as this review gets. it says “oyster bar” on the outside of the building, but the oysters were dry and rubbery which means it was not freshly shucked. The nachos and side of refried beans were completely dry on top as if the plate had sat there for a few hours. I ordered a more expensive margarita with lime juice and agave and instead received a margarita with sour. Although they have a great location and atmosphere, the food and drinks were subpar and overpriced. There are plenty of other Mexican food restaurants to choose from in San Antonio.

Been visiting since the 1980’s and my visit this week will be the last. Known for sizzling fajitas and great sides, last nights dinner was so disappointing. Dry chicken, no bell peppers and very little accompaniments. Too bad, was always a fun place. Adios

Nice atmosphere albeit a bit crowded. Good service despite the crowds. Get there early to avoid long wait times

We ate here for lunch ! The margaritas were great and were offered thru a happy hour period. The fajitas for two included beef and chicken and had plenty of side orders to roll them up in the flour shells. We got unlimited chips and sauce. The service was great and the prices were more than fair. Kudos to this place.

We ate here with friends on March 22, 2023. We got a Fiesta San Antonio appetizer platter. We all got margaritas (Finally a 20 oz drink under $10). Erik had the La Margarita Deluxe Mexican Dinner, Cheryl had the Enchiladas Primavera as did one of our friends. Another friend had the Fajita Plate while the last had the Enchiladas Acapulco. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. The appetizer platter was outstanding. All meals were well presented and delicious. Everyone was happy and satisfied. We highly recommend this establishment.

Good authentic Tex-mex in a great setting. Service was good as well. The Vaquero was my favorite from the menu.

Located near the Market Square. Staff friendly and helpful. Mexican atmosphere. Various menu and more than reasonable price. If you like Mexican beer, I recommend Dos Equis in barrel with coarse salt on the edge of the glass, refreshing! Mexican specialties. Nice discovery!

This restaurant is located in the Historic Market Square near the main stage. They have a large outdoor dining area and a large inside dining area. The server was very friendly and efficient. The food was remarkably good. We weren’t really that hungry and so only ordered one burrito to share. It was so good that we wished we had ordered a second one, afterall.

Located in the San Antonio Market area, this is a great place for lunch or supper. Expect crowds at peak hours. A full typical menu as well as daily specials. The Caldo Maya soup is perfect on a chilly day. Fair prices and very friendly staff.

Restaurant was very charming. The food was very good. Was expecting a bit more authentic. Servers were very friendly.

Located a Market Square. Mexican cuisine, margaritas, beer.. Grab some nachos and fajitas. Enjoy the mariachis. Visit shops nearby.

4 of us had a nice meal, while visiting from the UK, spoilt a bit when I found a chicken bone in my enchlarda, quite a big bit, after complaing, my meal was deducted from check. Just one of those things I suppose..

Stopped for lunch and the atmosphere and service were excellent. The food was some of the best authentic Mexican food we have had in a long time. Would highly recommend stopping if you are in the area and need food or a margarita.

The food and service was just good. Atmosphere was cozy and we enjoyed our time there. Drinks were just okay.

Were seated inside immediately upon arrival on St. Patrick's night even though it was very busy. Service was good and the food excellent but the band playing outside was so loud the windows we were sitting next to were vibrating. Then the strolling mariachis inside added to the cacophony. Might go back at a quieter time if visiting San Antonio again.

We ate here twice over our three day stay. My son and his navy buddies really enjoyed the tableside guacamole and so did I. The atmosphere was great as was the margaritas. Food is authentic and well portioned. I will definitely recommend.

Historic Market Square is a must stop on any trip to San Antonio. I usually look for a hand-tooled leather bag when shopping here.My husband looks for anything with a Day of the Dead skull and we always have lunch at La Margarita Mexican Restaurant & Oyster Bar. Lots of fine Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, and I can't honestly say which is the best, but La Margarita is so much fun. We always have a good time and a good meal there. And a big meal--the portions are generous. I got the lunch special of filet of fish which was tilapia with a seafood enchilada with rice and avocado salad, it also comes with black beans. Yes, a big lunch that I didn't finish. I also asked for a side of pico de gallo to give the fish an extra kick.My husband ordered a guacamole salad with a side of spainish rice. He didn't finish that either. The lunch prices are unbeatable. A casuality of COVID is La Margarita's signature desert. Cajetada is a delicious ball of vanilla ice cream sitting on a sopapilla and rolled in nuts. Maybe more to it, but we haven't been able to get one for nearly two years, and won't until the kitchen is fully staffed and Covid is more manageable. We will continue to enjoy this restaurant in the future. The staff is friendly and efficient and the food is amazing!

I was craving two things the day I visited La Margarita...a margarita and oysters! I ordered a happy hour sangria margarita and seafood cocktail with huge pieces of shrimp and oysters. I was not disappointed. I then rounded out the meal with a couple Sopapillas. I love how they were served with a side of honey as it traditionally does, but also a side of strawberry sauce. Delicious!

Service was reasonable but not the most cheerful.. food we zr was palatable and had good taste we had the 3 dip platter. Jalapeño magarurawere very good, although little on the small side. But kicker was that the couple we were visiting with had been eating and were informed the house policy was only 3 drinks allowed. Not condemning policy but the couple from Houston we were visiting with were not anywhere near intoxicated and were informed that they would not be allowed to have anymore. It was rude and unnecessary. Sorry to say the service at this SA landmark is headed toward sewer.

My family went here to celebrate a graduation. Some family had been there before and made the recommendation. The margaritas were great! I had the Filete Acapulco. The flavors of the fish and shrimp with the cream sauce was so good. Likewise, the seafood enchilada. My mom had the Pollo al Carbon. She said the chicken was very flavorful. She doesn't normally eat that much food, but the chicken was so good to her. We were a party of 8. The chips and salsa was amply supplied and everyone commented positively about the food. I recommend eating there.

I visited this restaurant and ordered fajita plate and margaritas. Forget about sizzling fajita. Its temperature was not even hot. The amount of beef was surprisingly little, especially for the price. Margaritas was quite good.

We had a lovely meal with our daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Also joining us was our little dog which is allowed on their patio. Food was good with their ceviche leading the way. Our waiter was Hector Jr. and he was excellent.

Authentic Mexican food. Best I’ve ever eaten. Market Square has a really cool vibe, fun to hang out, people watch. Open market feel. Wait staff very attentive.

We went on Memorial Day weekend, so it was super busy and ridiculously hot. We were told it would be a 90 minute wait for a table, so we left our number in case we didn't find anything else and then we left. About 10 minutes later we got a text that our table was ready. It was outside and some seats were in the direct sun and uncomfortably hot. When we went in to use the washroom, we saw there were other empty tables during the duration of our meal even though we were told there weren't any inside in the air conditioning. The food was fine. Nothing special. The service was ok. Also nothing special - no personality or extra interest in serving usl. We wouldn't go out of our way to return, but if it was where someone else wanted to go, we'd be fine meeting up there.

There's nothing to complain about the food except the price. They give you a lot but it's still on the expensive side. I don't regret going there but once is enough.

There is plenty of seating inside and out, live Mexican musicians that walk the restaurant, good menu with vegetarian options and free chips and salsa, which in my opinion is a must ;) Alcoholic drinks are a little limited because they obviously specialize in Margarita. Overall not a bad stop during the day and not too pricey. Try and catch that happy hour!

We had a great experience here. Fantastic food, nice establishment. They were busy so we ordered and ate at the bar. Bartender was very pleasant. Food was very good. I would recommend this place.

Walk through mi Tierra and eat here instead! Staff was incredible and attentive. They all worked together and we had amazing dinner but they food made it that great. How food was phenomenal! We shared parrilladas estilo la margarita, what a great decision. The chicken and ribs were falling off the bone! You can’t go wrong here.

We visited over thanksgiving weekend so the markets were busy. The restaurant thrived in the challenge. We only had thirty minutes to wait and then were seated outside, at our request, facing the wonderful band in the street who played the whole time we were there. The food was delicious and plentiful, the margaritas superb and the service efficient and without fuss or hassle. A great evening.

Very good margaritas and chalupa. Oscar did a great job as our server. The fresh chip and salsa were very good too. Outside dining is the way to go

While most of my group visited Mi Tierra, I wandered into this place since I did not want to wait in line. I got seated quickly and served equally fast. I will definitely come here again. Strolling singers went up and down the tables. No regrets coming here

My wife and I were going to eat at La Margarita Restaurant while visiting the Mercado. We waited to get a table and after sitting down at a table that was not close to the outside railing we aksed to be mover and was told by the hostess that we would have to wait at least for another 20 minutes or so...However there were tables open where we wanted to sit so I just handed the menus back to her and we left....And I am glad we did..Viva Villa was much better.

Ate here as a break from shopping the Market Square. Listened to the Mariachi Band, the service was ok, not great, but not horrible was not offered a second drink. I don't believe I received the correct flavor margarita either. Was disappointed in the amount of chips. The fajitas were a bit dry but the tacos were delicious. The tables were very close together.

We went for the market and decided to stop and eat. The seated us quickly. Waitress Juanita was lovely she kept glasses and chips and salsa full! I had the chicken fajitas which were delicious, friend had cheese enchiladas which looked scrupulous, spouse had a Mexican dish with lots on it! Everything was hot fresh and we will be back!

Next door Mi Tierra's is great for the bakery, atmosphere, bar, and noise. It's a must see but eat at La Margarita as it is much more quiet , reserved, and relaxing. Fijitas are their speciality. Waiters are all older, experienced, and perceptive. They explain the menu with no rush. It's all fresh. A must stop for the tourist. Take your camera.

La Margarita never disappoints! Food, drinks, service, music make La Margarita our family’s favorite restaurant in San Antonio. For over 25 years, this is where we have brought our family and friends from all over the world to experience Mexican culture in Texas. The food is simple and beautifully presented and so flavorful. The service is friendly and even during the most busy times, food is served quickly.

The fajitas are the way to go here. Plenty of food and always order the churro beans! Cold beer and huge margaritas. The mariachis were excellent and played all our requests. Only one thing I could recommend is that they keep up with the bathrooms i.e. cleanliness, trash removal and keep floors dry. Otherwise this is always a stop for us while in SAT!!

I am from Austin and have eaten here 10x. This past weekend we went to SA and came here for lunch on Sunday. The prices are outrageous and the food is average for SA tex-mex. But it was the pricing that said never again.

Our server, Guillermo, was amazing. He was so helpful and kind and took the best care of us. We had 4 little ones with us and he got our order out super fast! The food was delicious and we had plenty! So happy we chose this restaurant for our final meal on our trip to San Antonio !

Food is great, mostly. We ordered oysters and they were kind of raw. On a previous occasion they were great. So, results may vary. My wife ordered this time a seafood plate which gave her problems with her digestion. Great expensive margaritas, but better quality than the river walk. Good beverage selection and great fajitas. I would definitely come back and order plates than don't have seafood.

This is kind of a touristy place, but it's also a place locals go to eat too. The food is good and the margaritas are better. It's also a place that can easily accommodate a big party, so if you are downtown with a big group I suggest stopping here.

So many different options. This was the best choice. Part of the miTerra family. This one sits in front of a live music stage with vendors and tons of people watching. Best meal on our trip. We split fajitas for 2. It was just the right amount

The atmosphere at this restaurant was great! Trios and Mariachis walking around playing music on request. Make sure you show up hungry and thirsty. Good chips and salsa is usually a good indication the food will be good and the food was great with large portions. The margaritas were very good. The good food and drinks were complimented by very good service. Will definitely go back!

We were told this was the place for authentic Ex Ian food, but it was same old cookie cutter tacos and enchiladas you can find in your hometown. There were a lot of places in San Antonio with more authentic and more creative menus. There was just nothing special about eating here.

We dropped in for lunch and were seated promptly. The atmosphere of this place is very good. They have an impressively stocked bar. We received our food fairly quickly and it was very good. We did not find our waitress to be overly friendly but the service was good.

What looks to be a little glass door up a small garden turns into a garden oasis if you choose to walk through! We visited twice during our visit to ciutudella and was never disappointed (we even took visiting family who loved it too). A little off the beaten track I think for tourists as it looks like if you wander off from the cathedral that there are no more restaurants - you would be wrong! We had dinner there one evening- the best nachos and burgers) and cocktails on our second visit. Lovely, friendly staff - highly recommend wandering off the beaten track to find this oasis of calm!

Been going there for many years and was always good, friends warned me it had changed but I was rally nsuprised at how much. Food was poor, margaritaa was good but overpriced. I probably won't go back!

So this place is popular. It’s a place where San Antonio locals have eaten for a very long time. The ambiance is what truly makes this place. It’s so energetic in there. The waiters are so efficient. The food is classic Tex Mex. The tortillas are great. I had the Mexican plate and the beans and rice were excellent. The enchilada and the crispy taco were perfect. They have a full bar here. Excellent service and very affordable.

I had to try this place since it is said to be the anchor of Market Square. I sat at the bar to have my meal. Service was not that great, but they were nice people. Food came out nice and hot, I had a vegetarian tacos meal. The salsa is really some of the best I've had. It got a little noisy once the bar began to fill up for the dinner crowd. But, it was still a fun place

This Restaurant is in Mexican Market Place, a Mexican shopping & eating Mecca in San Antonio! They have been in business for many years and serve up authentic Mexican dishes at reasonable prices. Locals told us about it and you will see lots of them eating here! Menu is large, so there is something for everyone from the typical tacos, enchiladas, tamales to very good fish dishes!

Mi Tirera was very busy, went around the corner to eat here. Much less crowded but still good food. Good food.

Best margarita I have EVER had (and I am a margarita enthusiast). I got the sour cream enchiladas and they were the best enchiladas I’ve ever had. The food came out in a good time & the quality was amazing. It was a good patio setting also.

First time visiting. Since it is located in the popular Market Square, we expected it to be a bit pricy. It's a good sized restaurant with outside seating area. Fajita for 2-people (chicken & beef) came with a small amount of pico de gallo, about 1 heap Tbsp of guacamole, rice and charra beans. (cheese and sour cream cost extra). Fajita meat was tender and flavorful. Chicken Tortilla soup taste good and had plenty of chicken. Fish taco (2) comes with black beans and rice. It had a good balance of soft and crunchiness(fried taco shell, but a bit greasy), and good flavor Margarita could use a bit more alcohol. (we had 1prickly pear & 1peach flavored) 1 bear + 1 flan. Total bill was $101. Good experience overall. It is one that you take your out of town friends to eat (location).

We had a party of about 12, and our waitress and her staff were great. The restaurant had a great feel and décor, but the food was a little disappointing (comparable to Casa Ole if you are familiar) and their salsa was like Pace. I would stop in for a drink, but probably eat elsewhere. I'm sure out of towners, or those that don't eat a lot of Mexican food would love it.

Nice restaurant. We ate well there. We took fajitas for two with different meats. Some had a little overcooking but it was good anyway feasted. Good atmosphere and easy to find.

This was "just average food" like most Mexican restaurants, but the white fish ceviche was delicious. Again, we dined outside after a 30-minute wait for a table.

Great vibe, friendly and fast service and very tasty Mexican food with cocktails. We had mixed Fajitas, salad and house Margaritas.

Very lively and great patio for outdoor seating. Good place to people watch at the market square. Has a great bar inside and the bartenders are always very friendly and provide great service and drinks

Xavier was amazing! It was our first time here and he answered all of our questions with a smile! Service and food was amazing - we will be back next time we are here!

We tried to go to Mi Tierra, a popular tourist restaurant in downtown San Antonio but there was a 45-minute wait. So we went right next door to this restaurant, owned by the same people with similar menus. We walked right in and got a table. The service was good, the food was good, the ambiance was good. I start with five stars and then deduct for deficiencies. There were none.

Wonderful restaurant and stellar customer service! The food was EXTREMELY good and the customer service was OUTSTANDING!! Must visit restaurant for your San Antonio trip!!!

My husband and I ate lunch here Sunday, March 9, 2025. The Market Square was a stop on the Hop on-Hop off sightseeing bus. The service and food at La Margarita was superb! And, the price was very reasonable! We had (shared) enchiladas, beans, guacamole and rice. The tortillas and salsa were perfect! Also, the beer. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Large mexican restaurant in the Market Place, west of the Riverwalk and worth the trip. Happy hour drinks were great, tried a selection of margaritas. Had chicken flautas because I was not hungry and still had too much to eat. Speciality is fajitas (they introduced them) and hope next time to try them there.

Best food and Margaritas we’ve had in a very long time. Be sure you make a reservation for this very popular restaurant. The place was packed, but service was still very good. The fish tacos were the best I’ve ever had. My friend said the beef fajitas were super tender.
I'm still dreaming about those enchiladas!
By far hands down the best MOLE I have ever tasted. I had it on my chicken enchilada. When the dish came out it was so big I never thought I would finish. But it was so good I couldn't stop ! My husband has vegetable enchiladas and he also ate much more than he thought he would. This will be a MUST DO on my next trip to San Antonio !!
