What a gem!

By Ned L |

My partner and I randomly found this restaurant on Google Maps and from the moment we stepped inside we suspected that the great reviews were accurate. We were greeted by the charming owner and shown to a table near the front window. The menu is fairly limited (understandably so - the kitchen is tiny) but everything we tried was delicious. The lamb shank in particular was something truly special - probably the best I've ever had! A nice touch was that the waiter/owner (totally unprompted) gave me two different red wines to taste, so I could choose the one that better suited the lamb shank. Very classy move, and it led me to try (and really enjoy) a wine I wouldn't have otherwise ordered. Adding to that, the decoration and ambience is really lovely - very cosy and atmospheric. We will definitely be coming back here next time we're in SF!

Amazing service

By NYClifer137 |

Great food and even better service. The owner, Rafik, made us feel as though we were guests in his home. We had the merguez, lamb chops, and deviled eggs. Each dish was really unique and flavorful. The salad with the merguez is spicy, but not overwhelmingly spicy. The deviled eggs were made with avocado and delicious. I almost never leave reviews, but the service was really unlike anything else I have experienced when visiting San Francisco.

Lunch and dinner at La Marsa

By Mauisyed |

Food and service is outstanding! Highly recommend breakfast lunch dinner. First time we came for dinner this time was lunch. Crepes short ribs and lamb riblets were very yummy

Among 10 best food experiences ever

By Liisa_Eskelinen |

The lamb starter we had was among 10 best things I have ever tasted. The cheese plate was amazing. Mains that we shared were very good as well. Wines more than delicious. Service was excellent. We could not have chosen a better restaurant for our special evening in SF.

On holiday in SF

By Fran G |

We found this gem of a place only a few steps from our hotel. Beautiful food and great service... highly recommend! Thank you for a lovely meal ( lamb shanks and veg yum!).

Very tasty breakfast for about 13$

By Jochem N |

only downside is they haven't got much room to place people. They did place an extra chair so we could sit with 6 people at the bar. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast quite some and hosts are friendly. well deserved 5 stars

Quality Winebar and customer focus

By Steve B |

We happened on La Marsa by accident but were really glad we found it. Excellent wines, cheese platter and dessert with a Tunisian flavour - just what we needed. We really enjoyed our chat with the passionate owner - it is clear why this place is ranked highly. Well deserved!

Wonderful cozy Tunisian restaurant in San Fran

By Steve Vanstone |

My wife & I stumbled across La Marsa when in San Francisco recently. What a find it was! A small, specialized menu but the three dishes that we had were each outstanding. Owner/host/chef Rafik was delightful. With a small number of tables, he can spend a bit of time with each group to chat. Highly recommend this spot. We will search it out again when next in town.

Delicious!

By mchristi1978 |

We stopped in for a late supper and were warmly greeted by the owner who said we had just missed the crowd as a lot of the patrons were going to the theaters across the street. We had the place to ourselves for most of our meal, and the intimate space made it that much more special. We ordered a wonderful wine and waited for the lamb riblet appetizer. The appetizer was great and gave us high expectations for our main courses. When they arrived we were not disappointed. I had the chicken which was good, but my wife had the short ribs which were exceptional! They were cooked perfectly and the flavors just explode in your mouth. Make sure to save room for the baklava, as it is like no other we had had. We will definitely return the next time we are in San Francisco!

Wonderful food, and great atmosphere

By Simon |

I had read good reviews of La Marsa as "a hidden gem". Very true. From the outside it is quite small and potentially looks like a local cafe. How wrong that would be. From being greeted at the door to paying the bill the service was fantastic, and the food was SO good. I had a wonderful sea food stew and also the tuna. Hard to tell which was better, it is the best food I have had in San Francisco in all the years I have been visiting. The food and is Tunisian themed (the owner was impressed I had visited much of Tunisia and is from a village close to Sidi Bou Said. The menu is small, but don't let that put you off - it is perfectly formed. A wonderful evening. Thank you!

Tunisian Food -- A culinary delight when experienced at La Marsa!

By Deborah M |

We were a group of five and visited La Marsa on the tip of our Uber driver . . . wow! We wanted a taste adventure, but rather than visiting one of the City's "Top Ten", were looking for a more intimate and less formal option, and this was perfection. We ordered a few things and let our peerless waiter take care of the rest, and we shared everything. The selection was fantastic, from deviled eggs and a cheese plate to begin, through several meat dishes of beef, lamb, fish and my personal favorite, the sausage, to dessert, the Affogato. The food was so fresh, the flavors subtle and the presentation elegant without being pretentious. Fantastic wines, excellent service and we although we never felt rushed we were on our way to the theatre in plenty of time to find our seats. We will return, and recommend this experience to anyone who wants a fabulous meal and a fun experience. A hint: if the sign says "closed" beg to be seated ;-)

Hidden gem and meals with a subtle taste

By Bart |

We bumped into this place when we were looking for a place for lunch when we just arrived in SF. Looked like something different than the typical American style and YES it was. Really nice sandwiches, salads and pancakes with a Mediterranean taste and style. We went back twice, once we were disappointed as it is closed on Sunday. The other time we enjoyed our breakfast here and discovered they also make a really good coffee. Visited by locals for coffee, breakfast and lunch which is always a good sign.

Delicious Food & Presentation

By Nancy D |

Located in the hubbub area of Union Square, this restaurant is quite tiny with few tables. Reservations are most likely recommended. Since we ate dinner early we squeezed in. Limited choice menu with delicious options. We loved the flavor of lamb shank and short rib options. These entrees were $30 and $27. There was a vegetarian option on menu. Friendly service. No bread offered or available.

Good food, nice staff

By Sylvain J |

We had dinner at La Marsa last month and the food was wonderful and the staff really friendly. We were a group of 6 and we felt welcome.

Tunisian - good food but limited menu.

By Yelbid |

Friday night in January, we pretty much stumbled on La Marsa. Owned by Rafik from Tunisia, he was welcoming, friendly and very attentive. It’s a small restaurant, billed as Mediterranean but really much closer to Tunisian. Quite a small menu and limited wine list with main dishes priced at $20 - $30 each. We had the stuffed eggs to start for $15 followed by the lamb shank and braised beef, both very nice and very lean. would we eat there again? Yes, but not regularly, because of the limited menu.

Tasty North Tunisian Experience

By Daryl C |

I hadn't tried Tunisian cuisine before. However, I'm a big fan of Moroccan food and the similarities made it easy to appreciate. The location is great. Right across from the Curran Theater and a few blocks from Union Square. The place isn't large so I'd plan on making reservations to ensure a table. It's not an extensive menu but everything we had was great. My wife had the lamb shank and it was the highlight of the evening. I ordered the cumin snapper and, though less flavorful, was still fresh and tasty. And we closed out the night with the open baklava. It wasn't exceptionally sweet but had a nice, slightly citrus flavor. They get a lot of theater traffic so they're used to "accelerating" dinner to make first curtain.

Lunch sandwiches and Evening restaurant Arabic fusion food

By Hicham M |

I have been 3 times over 5 days. Great fresh food combining Tunisian spices with Mediterranean cooking style. Would definitely recommend for people looking for good healthy food.

Great choice pre-theatre or post-shopping

By jphanover |

My wife and I ate here with my visiting parents just last night prior to the theatre, and loved it. We had seen good reviews, and it didn't disappoint. The charming proprietor, Rafik, provided excellent service amidst charming ambiance in this small restaurant that he recently founded. We loved the cheese plate and ahi tuna appetizer, and all of us devoured our main courses. The food is elegantly presented (on authentic Tunisian plates) and memorable for tasty sauces. Rafik treated us to a creme brulee dessert that was fantastic.

Great chicken !!!

By c_and_a_Melbourne |

Delicious menu! The deviled eggs are amazing (and a bit spicy) and their chicken is one of the best I have ever eaten! Amazing technique. The owner was happy to talk me through the recipe and even showed me how he did it.

Great atmosphere, delicious meal, charming owner

By Heather W |

We had the lamb and the chicken, both deliciously spiced and tender. The lighting and decor created a special ambience for a delightful evening out.

Outstanding!

By nisk |

Wish we were in SF longer so we could go back. We ordered EVERYTHING on the menu with the exception of 2 items. Each dish was outstanding. Beautiful flavors and spices. Great waiter.

Excellent food and service

By CeilingsPA |

This is a small restaurant with a fairly limited menu, However it is a must visit. The food is of a very high quality, the devilled egg appetizer was amazing, as was the lamb shank that just melted in the mouth. Service was excellent, Truly a hidden gem restaurant in the middle of a city with many average choices, Highly recommend you book online.

A real gem...yum yum yum for breakfast

By James H |

Went there with friends for breakfast - 4 adults and 4 kids ranging in age from 9-15 and we all really enjoyed. They serve Illy coffee which made for a great start. The kids all had the Nutella and banana crepe - smoked them back. Two of us had the La Marsa crepe with buckwheat, merguez sausage, manchego cheese, roasted peppers and onions ...so good. The other two adults had a salmon omelet and a plain omelet - everyone was very happy with their mwal

Nice find in San Francisco

By France1215 |

While in San Francisco we wanted to try different type of food. We found this tunisian restaurant and decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. We started with a plate of cheese which was well presented, good cheese balance with nuts, honey and raisin. Would have liked a little more bread but it was great. We had lamb and beef for dinner and it was fantastic, tender and very flavorful. We really enjoyed our dinner. Would highly recommend. FYI It was rated a one $ for price range but I am not sure I would agree with that. It was a little more pricey than I thought but well worth it.

Tasty dinner

By Peggy V |

Great service. Chef/owner is happy to share his knowledge/experience. Great tasty dishes, wine menu extensive and great knowledge of chef/waiter for wine pairing. The only downfall is that it’s pricy vs other similar quality San Fran restaurants.

Fantastic Dinner in tiny Environment!

By jimmerhand |

I had dinner here while I was at Dreamforce this year. The food was fantastic - had the seafood stew along with beef short rib, both excellent. The restaurant was small, though the hospitality and food were outstanding. I spent time speaking with the owner (sorry, I forgot his name), great chef/owner who obviously takes great pleasure of his establishment and his food quality. I will be back!

Excellent ambiance and delicious food!!!

By Kathy M |

Such an excellent and romantic ambiance, delicious food and a very welcoming host/chef! A really special evening with just a few tables.

Small and wonderful food and atmosphere!

By Richard K |

The owner/chef is very active. Almost a one-man show except he has several staff that made our dining experience seamless and fun. Make a reservation as La Marsa is small and fills up quickly once the doors open. The small size was fun as it made it easy to talk to other diners and learn more about them and the food they ordered.

Unbelievable food and even better service!

By F16Pilot |

The owner and his cousin are the chefs and servers! Quaint, attentive, personalized service. Great recommendations and personal touch. Whether you like Mediterranean / Tunisian food or not - this place is a CANT MISS!

A Hidden Gem

By indytrims |

We took a group of 10 to La Marisa tonight for a birthday celebration. The restaurant is a very small, intimate place that seats about 25 at a time. This is the proverbial “hole in the wall,” but what a hole! It was marvelous. Our party enjoyed lean and tender braised short ribs and fall off the bone lamb shanks. Our appetizers included a seafood stew, lamb riblets, and a cheese board. Service was prompt and friendly and very efficient. I strongly commend this place to your attention.

Delicious Tunisian influenced cuisine

By Mary D |

Lovely dinner on a Saturday evening. Friendly and welcoming. We shared the Tunisian deviled eggs with shrimp. So flavorful and unusual with the Tunisian spices. Lamb shank and roast chicken “falling off the bone” tender. The spicy cous cous was scrumptious. Save room for the Tunisian baklava with lemon. Perfect ending.

Best Dinner we had in SF

By Robert C |

If you are in the Union Square area you have got to try La Marsa, the meal was the best we had!!!! We tried the Tunisian Seafood stew, the red snapper and the lamb shank all were excellent. The menu is simple and great. We plan to go back tomorrow and try the deviled egg appetizer. It was exquisitely designed for a memorable time! The food was extraordinary, the simple was menu but had great choices for everyone.

Small, friendly, good atmosphere

By chironrms |

I wandered into this restaurant on Geary, very close to my hotel, looking for a glass of wine after a long day walking - I was made to feel welcome, & so I returned the following night, for another glass plus food! The wine list & the food menu are short, but good, It is amongst small hotels, & opposite theatres. The proprietor is Tunisian, & happy to engage in conversation (political & historical), but without neglecting the other customers.

Flavorful and Friendly

By ARAMSP |

Highly recommend if you enjoy unique flavors and a small, curated menu. The lamb shank was beautiful and the snapper was very fresh. Excellent service.

The best in SF!!

By Khal |

We tried La Marsa yesterday and were pleasantly surprised by the fine Tunisian cuisine. The owner is an excellent host and tries his best to satisfy his guests. Don’t hesitate to taste the Tunisian deviled eggs which is a creation of the chef. Thank you for these nice moments

Great food and service - amazing unexpected find!

By rlarsenaz |

Love this find! We were in town visiting and needed a last minute reservation before going to the theater. We were accommodated and welcomed upon our arrival. The menu is small, but don't let that worry you. There is something for everyone. We had 5 people in our party and we would have ordered one of everything, but 2 people in our party would not give up their order. :) Everything we had was delicious! The desserts were amazing! Best baklava I have ever had - not too sweet. The service was great and even though it was busy, the owner took time to talk to us and answer our questions. It didn't hurt that he was nice to look at. If you are looking for a great little spot with amazing food and wine - this is it. (Side note, there was a couple that came in much after us and needed to eat quickly before the theater. They were accommodated and their orders were taken quickly. We bumped into them at the play and they were so happy to be taken care of in a hurry and commented on how great their dinners were!)

Secret Treasure

By lindacas2018 |

I came across La Marsa quite by accident when I was looking for dinner near the Curran Theater. One review I read mentioned La Marsa, directly across the street from the theater, but what caught my eye in that review was a glowing recommendation for the lamb riblets. At first, it was hard to see because it is surrounded by restaurants with brightly-lit signs. In contrast, La Marsa is low-key, cozy and welcoming. The host is charming and just the right amount of attentive, eager to discuss the menu, preparation, and recipes, even the ones that came from his grandmother. The lamb riblets were remarkable. So delicious, fall-off-the-bone tender, and full of flavor, I had the short rib entree, which was also delicious, but I think that the next time I go, I will simply have three orders - or more - of the lamb riblets, and leave happy and satisfied. I did not have wine, so I can't comment on the wine menu, but he recommended the Blue Moon beer to accompany the short rib because it was the same beer he used for the beer reduction and it was perfect. The menu is not extensive, but looking at it again makes me so hungry I want to go back RIGHT NOW!

Great for Brunch and Lunch

By Sandy R |

Walking along looking into art galleries, we came across this place that serves crepes (savoury and sweet). Stopped for coffee, went back for lunch. Very good food. Great crab cakes. It shuts at 15.30, so get there in time.

Great new find

By Kristina T |

Cozy find - love this wine bar and the food is delish for an amazing price. Small and cozy place right across from the Curran theater!

Pacific Islanders trying Tunisian

Very quaint little place. Food is wholesome & absolutely fantastic and it's also reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and efficient. I will be back 😊👍🏽

Excellent food - very reasonably priced

By Ron and Andrea K |

Best food in San Francisco yet - the Seared Ahi appetizer was spectacular along with the Crusted Red Snapper entree. The creme brûlée was wonderful and the lava/brownie cake superb We really enjoyed the host/owner who chatted about the ingredients and preparation (and even offered some very helpful smartphone advice) - thanks Rafik and chef! We were privileged to try a new creation as a candidate for the menu We'll be back to try your breakfast crepes at some point this week and hopefully another dinner if we can squeeze it in!

My Morning Crosissant

By DetailsAreEverything |

Stopped here for a quick morning bite on my way to the office. Good breakfast croissant sandwich and coffee. Friendly, tasty and a nice table in a small place. Enjoy.

Delicious Breakfast

By Gemilou222 |

We popped by for breakfast and were not disappointed! The owner Rafik was a friendly host, breakfast was delicious and we’ll certainly be returning on our next trip to San Francisco. Thanks Rafik! :)

Good breakfast sandwich.

By AngelMoralespr |

This place is right next door to Starbucks, so if you give me a choice I will select La Marsa. They have very good Illy coffee and they make breakfast sandwiches and crepes for breakfast, lunch or dessert. Customer service is good as well and the place is very clean.

Amazing breakfast

By MelD05 |

We found this place by accident and so glad we did. Small and simply decorated but the food was beautiful. Service impeccable and very friendly. Would recommend anyone close to give them a try.

CLOSED at 815pm on 21 Aug 19

By Barbara C |

Walked excitedly to this restaurant tonight 08/20/19 but the place is closed with mail on the floor by the front door- no sign of life: check it’s open before you hit the hills😶

Charming and Delicious

By Katie M |

As we walked into La Marsa we were greeted by the engaging owner, Rafik, and seated at a hand-hewn table. Groups of happy diners were drinking wine and finishing yummy-looking entrees, so the anticipation built. Our hopes were met and exceeded. The very unique cheese plate, selection by the owner and reflecting his favorites, included a soft and sweet, a firm tinged with truffles, and a wonderfully funky runny cheese. Our app choice was a seared tuna on toast topped with shishito peppers, done perfectly! All the meat dishes looked incredible, and we chose the short ribs, imbued with a subtle sweetness suggestive of wine and offset by spicy mashed potatoes. Overall, an A-1 experience and meal. Note: high ceilings mitigate and sound concerns and we easily conversed in normal voices.

Lunchtime

By Liz E |

The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. We were able to quickly order and get a good table. The vegetarian omelette I had was light and fluffy and full of cooked to perfection vegetables. The berry crepe was delicious. I would definitely go back.

Hidden Gem in Union Square

By lacy g |

We were staying at the Marker and wanted to find a place to eat that was close to our hotel. I'm so glad we found La Marsa by chance. There are very few tables in the restaurant, but the food is just amazing. The chicken was so tender and delicious. They let us try the deviled eggs and they were probably the best i've ever had. Everything is so fresh. The service is outstanding. Please give this place a try. The owner is extremely nice. The food is just wonderful!!!!

What a find!

By bruekelen |

After a show at a nearby theater, we happened to walk past La Marisa just before it opened. The menu looked to good to pass up, and when it opened we got a cosy window table. The service was warm and friendly and the food was delicious. We started with the deviled eggs, and worked our way through the menu to the lamb shank. Yum!!! Definitely worth a visit, or in our case, a revisit. Cheers!!

I was walking past this gem of a place in the afternoon and saw the owner Rafiq.. prepping for the day.. we spoke and i was intrigued by what he told me about the cuisine, so I came here for dinner!! Wow, great food, warm and intimate hospitality!! Nice surprise. I look forward to returning the next time I’m in SF. ✅‼️🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆

Be aware

By Jonathan |

Be aware. Tajines are prepared in advance and microwaved before they are served to you. With a Chicken Tagine at almost 30 usd (single portion) one can expect a fresher preparation. Food tastes ok. Staff is very welcoming and friendly.

Breakfast treat

By BoAMozart |

Cosy place up from hilton on geary. Lovely place. Sweet Crepe for my wife (no pun) was lovely and g/free Veg Omelette and potatoes very tasty. Illy coffee always good. Shashlouk eggs looked good but as not a hobbit. Only one breakfast.

Superb

By Ferida F |

Wandered in to this little place just a few doors from our hotel and were delighted with everything about it. The food - Mediterranean/Tunisian - was delicious and the service was warm and efficient. It’s worth paying more for quality food that is carefully prepared.

Excellent location and service!

By Jane Don't |

Excellent place! Ended up here on the recommendation of an usher at the Curran Theater across the street. I had marched in the Women's March in the rain all day and was looking for a place to warm up and rest while waiting for the show at the theater to let out. The proprietor, Rafik, was wonderful; he recommended a great wine that was not on my radar, and generously brought me all kinds of traditional Tunisian foods to taste. We ended up staying well past closing time listening to his stories, and how he ended up opening this little place. Right around the corner from Union Square, too! Highly recommended!

Excellent

By Patrick C |

Just had our breakfast here. Not only is the food delicious but the service is warm and attentive. Much better than many of the pretentious joints around this area where they add 20% service charge automatically and then have have a space on the receipt for additional tip. Go La Marsa!

across from ACT at the Curran Theater

By Shannon G |

We went into this small but excellent restaurant and had a fine meal before the play. The host/cook was interesting and delightfully chatty. I'd definitely return.

Excellent crepes and service

By ajdial |

Really good breakfast first off, the crepes were nice and crisp, and the two guys working were doing the job of 6. It’s a small place, but it works.

Hidden Little Gem

By YvonneEory |

My friend and I recently were in Downtown San Francisco looking for a place where to sip a good glass of wine, enjoy some small plates & catch up. We decided to try a new place, La Marsa. Oh boy did we nail it! We had splendid wine, wonderful small plates including a Tunisian inspired bruschetta with what I can say is the best tuna in town. The service was impeccable and friendly. The ambiance was delightful; the right amount of light, great background music, and a tasteful decor. Definitely going back!

Best lamb shank ever

By Oliver P |

Nice, small restaurant run by a Tunisian. Excellent chef and waiter. I had the best lamb in my life. Highly recommended

Excellent Intimate Dining Experience

By 983North |

I made reservations for dinner at La Marsa based on the many positive reviews on Trip Advisor and was rewarded with an excellent dining experience. I ordered the cheese plate appetizer using the cheese recommendations of the owner which was a delight to my taste buds. I ordered the lamb and my wife ordered the chicken. Both dishes were moist and perfectly spiced. A perfect finish to the meal was the creme Brulee. With the small and comfortable size of the restaurant, getting to talk to and know the owner was a plus making this an experience to remember.

Phenomenal!

By Ron E |

Hidden gem by Union Square. Rafik offered amazing service and the food was incredible. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared so that each bite is perfectly balanced. The short ribs were the star of the evening and one of the best bites I've ever had. The space is small so make a reservation so you don't miss out!

The Dinner Finale of our SF Visit

By Joanna M |

Outstanding! This was the first time we had tried Tunisian, so we had no idea what we were in for: perfectly braised short ribs and lamb and amazingly hearty vegetarian options. The desserts are divine! The owner is an excellent host and the restaurant is beautiful with its reclaimed wood and iron, a few northern African touches and a nice view of passers by.

Perfect place for something to eat and a drink

By kjwiz |

My friend and I were searching our phones for somewhere to eat and grab a drink. Nothing was hitting the mark in the area and then we stumbled upon this gem. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for so we grabbed a table not knowing what the food would be like. Turned out the small plates of food were delicious! The owner is fantastic and super friendly as well. It was a great find and just the perfect place for us to catch up and have some great food and wine.

Close Saturday morning

By Vincevg |

Know the feeling when looking forward to eat and find it closed, even when both listing and website list it as open. Unfortunately :(

Nice but overrated

By Sheila A |

Based on the Trip advisor reviews, I invited another couple here for dinner. The food was just ok, but terribly over priced, as was the wine. I had the lamb shank, one friend had the short ribs, and two had the seafood casserole (which was definitely the worst dish.) We did enjoy the creamed brûlée. Rafik was a very nice person and the service was good, but people who thought the food was the best thing they had in SF must be eating in real dumps.

Outstanding!

By OysterPirate |

The chef/owner (who's name I sadly did not catch) showed mastery of technique and creativity with every dish. Our service was excellent - friendly without being intrusive. My wife and I will happily eat here again when we are next in San Francisco.

Very decent breakfast

By Espen Paaby |

We chose this place because it was close to where we were staying. Went for the Lumberjack Crepes with ham and cheese, which were excellent. Good food and quick and efficient service.

A great Tunisian Food Experience.

By Eri |

A great Tunisian Food Experience. This is a small boutique restaurant with awesome selection of food and friendly staff.

Wonderful Dinner Experience

By alyssamaelevy |

We had a wonderful experience having dinner here. It's brand new, and the decor is beautiful and polished. The atmosphere warm and inviting and I loved all the natural wood accents. Everything on the menu looked delicious and interesting, which I always appreciate. My husband enjoyed his braised short ribs and my half chicken was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The owner was very friendly and made us feel welcomed, while simultaneously cooking and serving the food! I always love restaurants that provide an experience in addition to good food, and we found that here. I hope to be back next time we are in the city!

Excellent Dinner

By Gene K |

My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner in this intimate restaurant. We shared an order of the Tunisian deviled eggs with shrimp - very tasty. She then had the eggplant vegetarian entree; I had the braised then baked lamb riblets. The fresh spices really made the meals shine. Sevice was efficient and friendly.

Small menu with delicious food

By Z777 |

Stopped by for dinner while in SF and were not disappointed. Highly recommend if you are looking for tasty meal and pleasant service.

Excellent Breakfast at La Marsa

By Krychek |

We started our day with an excellent breakfast here. Some of us had great crepes, and others had the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. The coffee was great as well. It was a great start to our day. It was very filling and offered a very relaxed atmosphere. We will plan on eating here for the remainder of our visit in San Francisco - much better than eating at our hotel!!

Great Mediterranean Food!

By webb |

Loved the lamb riblets to start and the lamb shank for entree. Both fantastic. Wine and beer only menu. Right across street from theatre playing Harry Potter. Make a reservation here.

Excellent braised short ribs

By matthiazw79 |

This is a very nice Tunesian restaurant in San Francisco. My choice was the braised short rib and it was very tender and delicious. Also the baklava desert was really tasteful. We did not make reservations so we were lucky to have the last spots at the bar.

So good my wife asked for the recipe (and she got it)

By Brad G |

The cumin-crusted fish impressed my wife so much, she asked for the recipe. And the owner was all too happy to reveal the ingredients and how the meal was prepared. We went for dinner and although the restaurant is small in size, it's large in friendly service and delicious food.

Amazing Food and Owner

By azluvfun |

I went to La Marsa during PCBC with several business associates and it was not disappointing. The owner is an absolute doll. Entertaining, approachable and all about service. The food was fantastic. The deviled eggs were delicious and the short ribs were the best I’ve had in a long time. And absolutely try the Baklava, you won’t be disappointed.

La Marsa: people make the difference

By Gelderlander |

We came in on a very busy evening and were directed to the bar. This offered us a grand vue over the kitchen area and gave us an insight look what , but especially how the meals are prepared. La Marsa offers a limited menu list consisting of 3 starters and 3 entrees and a number of desserts. So everything that you get is more or less prepared earlier and the ‘chef’ brings everything at the right temperature in the oven. I had lamb riblets, and my guest had chicken. The meal was fine, nothing spectacular or unusual. We had crème brulee as desert, which carried a special taste due to the use of flavoured (rose) water.

Excellent service; great food; decent wines

By Travelwith0urFamily |

This hidden gem near the theatre district was just wonderful. We were greeted by a handsome and humorous server who recommended wines we'd not have otherwise considered. The food was delicately seasoned with subtle nuances of flavor. The deviled eggs were an interesting experience. After the description, one might expect bold flavors but this was not the case. Each was two to three bites of intrigue. The lamb and short ribs were both falling-off-the-bone tender. The truffle potatoes were amazing. But I think the best dish was probably the cumin-encrusted fish. The baklava was slightly dry but flavorful. And the crème brulee was amazing. Overall, a great experience, in no small part due to the two talented men who keep this place running.

Quite and Warm

By Tiziana P |

The restaurant is little with a warm atmosphere, the owner is friendly and gentle. Tunisian food delicious and original. Strongly suggested, above all if you are in good company for a friendly or business evening. Do not renounce to the catalana sweet. TP

Great Food and Experience

By Steve W |

We were pleasantly surprised with the cuisine as we’d never eaten ethnic Tunisian dishes before. The beef and chicken dishes were exceptional and would recommend the spiced cous cous. The service was very good. Overall the food and drinks were on the expensive side but it is a city centre restaurant and to be expected. Recommended

Delicious

By Mhazza |

Great little restaurant, tasty food, good wine, cosy environment. Can recommend the riblet entree with basil pesto!

Memorable evening!

By Leslie G |

We enjoyed the chance to visit and eat the wonderful food prepared by the owner. It was surprising that we had no other diners at 6:00 p.m., since the food is so good and made with quality ingredients. However, it was too our advantage since we had the rare opportunity to visit with such an interesting man and learn a bit about Tunisia as well. We enjoyed the devilled eggs, chicken and the short ribs - all prepared by the owner. We definitely plan to visit again soon!

I visited La Marsa last April wit my parents, after discarding all the other restaurants which mainly offered fried food. We wanted something simpler and home made and we ended up here. The owner (very charming guy) welcomed us and we sat down to find out he was from Tunisia, while we are from Sardinia (Italy) so we are sort of neighbours in the Mediterranean sea :) The food was typical from Tunisia, tasty and most of all it made us feel like we were home. Perfect service too so it is highly recommended.
