Disappointed ! As you can see from all the other reviews, I'm in the minority but . . . The restaurant itself, the staff etc was fine. The food, however was, I'm sorry, bland. The Arancini rice balls were good, as was the Arugula Salad but nothing to write home about. To my taste the 3 entrees (Cannelloni, Spaghetti Carbonara and the Special Pasta with Scallop & Shrimp ) lacked, well, seasoning. They looked good but. So for the above before tip, the bill came to around $84. Sorry, I won't be rushing back.

We had our rehearsal dinner at La Nonna. Giana was amazing! She helped us pick the perfect menu and made sure we were taken care of the entire night. We were able to drop off our alcohol before dinner and she chilled it for us. The food was DELICIOUS and never ending. Our guests could not stop talking about how delicious everything was. I highly recommend La Nonna for any occasion. We will absolutely be regulars now. Thank you!!

Just awesome. It is what any Italian American or foodie dream of. The menu takes off from start to finish. Appetizer are amazing. Sausage broccoli rabe, artichokes, mussels just to name my faves. Go go go. Family service is terrific Just don’t take my reservation

Great food. Great service.Great atmosphere. Felt so comfortable in this small space. The ambiance was perfect. Laughter. Conversation. Amazing aromas. Surrounded by all of this. Loved the experience.

We somewhat found La Nonna by accident on November 22 via the Philadelphia Half Marathon and a previous review which raved about a seafood pasta dish that featured calamari, shrimp and muscles in a white wine sauce. It wasn't listed on the menu nor chalked on their blackboard but a fantastic lady serving my wife and I, when asked about it, said, "I can make that for you". Did she ever!! My wife's "pre race" pasta was excellent as well and along with a shared Cesar salad and BYOB (vino), this was a fantastic Friday night Italian experience. Thanks to others on the staff as well who as a team, made our dinner memorable with great service. If ever back in Philadelphia, as much as I don't like repeating a place and nearly always try a new place, La Nonna will definitely be revisited for dinner. Hopefully this seafood masterpiece gets a permanent billing on the menu for others to enjoy as well and a final thank you to the lady who raved about this dinner selection as well in her review.

We were the first couple to arrive just when they opened we had reservations for 5pm. The staff was so attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with a special, fried mozzarella and tomato also we ordered the mussels in white. Dinner I had the gnocchi in a blush sauce my husband had veal parmesan he said it melted in his mouth probably one of the best he has had It’s a BYOB We will definitely be back.

We dined at La Nonna during restaurant week and it was delicious from start to finish. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting like you are eating in a family restaurant. I started with burrata cheese with tomatoes, prosciutto, basil, excellent! Second course was Linguini fra diavolo with shrimp and crab meat. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was not overpoweringly spicy. My entree was the Bronzino Fish and for dessert I had the Tiramisu. Service was great and it is a BOYB. Don't forget it is CASH ONLY!

Great experience each time we’ve eaten here, the 2Jd time was last night - the gnocchi is always delicious! And the wait staff are attentive and engaging. And it’s a fun old-school decor. BYOB cuts the cost down as well - a lot of wins all the way around. Just have your cash/Venmo ready. Will be visiting again.

My husband and I were looking for a good place for dinner around South Street but couldn't find a parking space. We stumbled upon this charming Italian/Roman restaurant situated near Penns Landing and had one of the best meals ever which included an out of this world pumpkin soup that we ordered on a whim. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Next time we're in the Philadelphia area, this will be our go-to place. Great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary! (Cash only)

Cozy BYOB neighborhood Italian restaurant offering a variety of dishes. The pasta is homemade except for their spaghetti. My husband and I shared a tender grilled octopus appetizer and Caesar salad with fresh dressing. I had the pasta pescatore that had calamari, shrimp and mussels cooked to perfection. My husband had their special Osso Bucco which melted off the bone. The chocolate hazelnut cake was to die for. Service attentive and welcoming.

We were making last minute reservations after a crazy day and our first choice was unavailable. We decided to give La Nonna a try and were delighted that we did! They were very accommodating despite us having to twice change our reservation. It’s a small, casual yet comfortable place. The food is delicious (get the artichoke hearts!), portions ample and the bread both good and not an up charge. The service was pleasant and generally efficient. Prices are reasonable. Note that if you want alcohol, you must bring it. And it is cash or Venmo only. But there’s a bottle shop around the corner and they equip tables with wine glasses and the servers will open your bottle without fuss.

We have dined at La Nonna many times and have loved every visit! It is an intimate spot run by a wonderful and welcoming Italian family and is right in our neighborhood so very convenient. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food and service is superb. The roman artichokes, farm salad, branzino and the homemade pasta dishes are all exquisite. Particularly enjoy going there for Sunday supper with family and friends. La Nonna is at the top of our list of favorite restaurants!

We are visiting Philly and have been here for almost a week. We've eaten all over the city, and I must say that La Nonna's has been my favorite! We had the Octopus, which was outstanding, the Buratta, and the special Pappadalle and Wild Boar Ragu. It was the best Italian meal we've had since Rome! This family-owned restaurant is warm and friendly, and Gianna, the owner, is lovely. Very accommodating since we hadn't made reservations and only stumbled upon it. We didn't know it was BYOB, but we were able to buy a nice red bottle next door and bring it in. A great experience!

For decades, we have gone to South Philly and reported on many of our favorite icons including Dante & Luigi's and also Ralph's. While we like many Italian spots in that area (we drive about 45 minutes to get there), it's a very short list as above mentioned for places that we truly LOVE. Well, we are adding La Nonna to this short list. We read the great reviews but did not know anyone who had been there so we went for a family birthday party this past Sunday...and we'll be back. Seemingly every recipe is homemade as the chef told us...from the truly incredible meatballs (I always judge a place by these no matter what I order and our whole party agreed) to the tasty sauces and the soft Gnocchi pillows....another homemade recipe the chef would not reveal to us. South Philly is famous for veal and this charming little place was no exception. Tables are spaced out well and the place if family run.....just a true local gem. It will become a long tradition for us. BYOB and cash only. So worth it...

This small friendly restaurant offers many Roman style dishes and home made pasta. It is a B.Y.O.B.. It is cash only.. Most entrees cost less than $22. Reservations are recommended. At our last visit there were two larger parties (13 and 10) dining. Customers ranged in age from their mid twenties to senior citizens. The wait staff was very warm and caring.

The service here was fantastic. BYOB and they automatically bring you the wine glasses. The pasta is made fresh from scratch. One of the specials was a scallop arugula antipasti and the scallops melted in your mouth. The gnocchi were as good as my mom and grandma made. Unbelievable.

Delicious gnocchi and canelloni. The blush sauce is great. Friendly service and we love the ambiance in this little restaurant. A hidden gem! BYOB means you save some $ on drinks too!

Love this local neighborhood restaurant on south street. Excellent authentic Italian food. The homemade pasta and clams was excellent. The mussels and calamari were delicious. My fiancé had the gnocchi which were excellent. Followed up with a specialty desert of the panocotta which was superb.

La Nonna is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants! Owned by a warm and welcoming Italian family. The food is outstanding - particularly love the roman artichokes, the farm salad, the cannelloni, the branzino special, the limoncello cake. The service is always impeccable and the atmosphere is so cozy. I especially love Sunday supper at La Nonna! La Nonna is an absolute gem and I have loved every meal there!
Good food
Food was great but I did have questions about the service. We were told reservations are a must have. We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation time. There were plenty of empty tables. We were told we had to wait until our scheduled time. We were able to sit at the bar to wait. Just didn’t understand the point of waiting while the table was set and empty. Food was great, the pasta home made. Light and tasty. It’s BYOB. No parking lot. Streets nearby were closed that evening making it difficult for ride shares to find their way to the place.
