Very nice ambience and authentic food. Don't take their spice levels too lightly. Would definitely recommend Lanna platter, red curry and iced tea.

Sometimes you've got to try it without knowing what you're in for. Lanna is located in a small strip mall next to Sushi Ota. Once inside, the atmosphere was calming and spacious even though just about every table was taken. Thai cuisine is one of our favorites having been to a number of excellent ones in the San Francisco Bay Area so I was expecting a downgrade. But boy were we surprised. Lanna can match many in the Bay Area where culinary standards remain one of the highest in the world. I haven't tried other Thai restaurants yet in San Diego but if you need a recommendation, Lanna will do you good.

We love, love, love Lanna Thai. We don't eat out much but when we do, 90% of the time it's Lanna Thai. We usually get the pad thai but I've tried a few items - and they are all excellent. They rate the spiciness 1-10. It's gets pretty hot at 7 so be careful if this is your first visit. I like spicy and usually order a 6 or 7. Oh, and you call in an order to take out also which we do frequently.

Random visit to that restaurant with actual Thai friends. Great service. Great food. Very friendly personnel. And it apparently taste like in Thailand, not just an "americanized" thai cuisine. Loved it! It does not look like a place i'd actually walk in, so i am glad i was not alone :)

I have been craving Thai and found this place on Trip Advisor. This place did not disappoint! We started off with the fresh summer rolls and Mango shrimp rolls! Yummy! I had the Thai fried rice with shrimp and hubby got the pad Thai.

We asked our hotel to recommend a restaurant and they recommended the Lana, which is just across the road. The food far exceeded our expectations. The service was good. A very good place for dinner.

Went here for dinner with a friend on a Friday night. The food was delicious and well-prepared and the service was very good. Prices were reasonable and the servings were generous. The parking lot is a bit small, but there was plenty of parking on the side street. I would not hesitate to dine here again.

Stumbled upon the restaurant because the one we wanted to go to was booked. We are sooooo glad we did! The food was above excellent. All the dishes were hot and very tasty. The hot scale is about right. We said number 7 on heat and is was just right. If you don't like it fairly hot go for a 5 and you'll be fine. They had great sticky rice which most Thai places don't want to cook for some reason. It's so good with the grilled beef salad. The Larb was all great as was the Pad Thai. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try, you'll be back.

This is a little gem I discovered while looking for a Japanese restraurant nearby which was closed. The food was excellent. I ordered shrimp and veges served in a fried noodle basket. There were may subtle flavors and the basket was anything but greasy. The restaurant is newer, very clean, and the wait staff were excellent.

Great appetizer plate and entrees were better than any other Thai restaurant. My wife and I had Tropical Duck and Tripledelicious Salmon which was grilled salmon with green yellow and red curry.

The curries and noodles all have tofu or mock duck as potential choices, along with meat/seafood. The curries are a bit sweet for my tastes but the spinach wrap with tofu starter was absolutely delicious. It's a really nice restaurant overall.

I have eaten here many times. The food is always good:fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. Tastefully decorated and attentive service. The restaurant is in a small lot and parking can be tough to find on weekends.

I've eaten at Lanna Thai several times and their staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Their food is fresh and consistent. We had the spinach wraps and Tom kha soup, which is always one of my favorites. We also had the chicken basil dish. Be careful of how spicy you order if you're wimpy like me. I can't handle much spice. This Thai food gem is tucked away in a shopping center where there is a 7-Eleven. It's not on the main drag but closer to Highway 5 and there is parking in the parking lot but many times it's full. If you love Thai food give it a chance!

What a friendly place! It is small, but what delicious food. I started with some mussels, which were plentiful and nicely seasoned. I ordered a Curry Lamb Shank, which was on special. They asked me for how spicy I wanted it (1-10)... 7 was PLENTY spicy, in case you're wondering. I definitely could feel the burn. I then finished off the meal with a generous portion of mango sticky rice... it sounds like a lot of food for one person, and it was, but I couldn't stop myself. Visit and enjoy!

We went to Lanna Thai twice and both times the food tasted so good but we rated this restaurant only 4 stars because we think the service is just OK. Although it takes so long to get the food but it's worth waiting. Worth a visit

Late dinner with family. Good menu selections. Servers were present but not trying to push us out the door. Try the Thai iced tea if you go.

This restaurant is hidden in a very sterile 7-Eleven strip mall. Driving by he would not imagine how wonderful and exotic this restaurants food is. The coconut is fresh, the chicken is cooked to perfection. I had mixed seafood pad Thai, and every piece of sea food was cooked perfectly. My friend had chicken with peanut sauce and the sauceWas so thick and delicious. I do recommend going a little under what you anticipate your spice level is. The spice is very spicy

Fell into this place because our favorite sushi restaurant was full. was pleasantly suprised. Food was really good, really fresh. Service was great. Spicy food was good and spicy.

Hungry for good Thai food...found this place near Pacific Beach. Definitely true THAI....food was good, service was good. would recommend

I like this restaurant a lot. I went with a large party and everyone was extremely pleased with their food. One nice thing is that they let you pick the spiciness of each dish, from 1 to 10. Just remember some thai food is supposed to be spicy and give it a try! The crab fried rice reminded me of eating the same dish when I was in Thailand. The Pad See Ew and Larb were also good.

Food was quite good At first had a problem getting service as I seemed our server was more interested in socializing.. flagged down a different waitress & she was excellent & so was the busy boy.

Who would have thought that across the street from our budget hotel we would fine this excellent place! Between the four of us, we sampled noodles, curry and eggplant. Everyone was delighted with the food, especially considering the price, about $10 per person without drinks. The wait staff was professional, efficient, and friendly. I can't wait for my next visit to San Diego, as I'll be sure to try Lanna again.

Average experience. Had to rush to the restroom after the curry chicken order. Hope you guys have better experience.

Went here on Sunday evening with Cousin. Super friendly staff. Great Thai food ! Had spring roll , pad Thai noodles with shrimp, surf and turf and all time favorite mango sticky rice!

What a treat, great tasting Thai food, the staff was very accommodating, helpful and very friendly. I was first getting a snack while my table was ready at suhi Ota and ended up coming right back after I left the suhi place (disapointed), Lanna Thai found me a place right away and served us in a very efficient and friendly manner, I was impressed with their service, desert was fabulous

5 of us are full time RVers traveling around the country together in 2 motorhomes. We seek out good Thai food for a good price. Lanna Thai fits the bill to a "T". Thanks to positive reviews on Trip Advisor & it being about 4 miles away, we were in! Fresh ingredients, great staff & very good prices. The heat factor is easy to understand (1-10). 3 of us like spicy & we opted for number 7. Not too hot, but provides that little bit of sweat on your head & a runny nose. But, the heat doesnt last & doesnt get hotter. An indication of good Thai pepper usage. The Panang curry dinner was plenty for leftovers, & at $10 it is quite the deal. We are here for a month & will be back a few times before we leave. Look for it to be in a small center just off I-5 near Mission Bay. Very nice decor & all of the staff was very attentive & kind. My kind of place. If I lived here, I would be a regular!

Food is delicious, service is great, prices are cheap, a hidden jewel just steps from Ota, good for lunch and dinner

We visited this restaurant for lunch today. We were all impressed with the service and food. Each of us ordered something different and we were all very favorably impressed with the quality. I started with a soup: Tom Yum and finished with Yum Talay- a salad with Shrimp, squid, scallops mussels, fresh greens, carrot, onion and chili lime dressing- it was very tastey.

I'm staying in Pacific Beach. There are many Thai Restaurants but since this one had good reviews, I thought I'd try it. Saw that they delivered as I was thrilled because I didn't feel like going out. Ordered from their menu online. Their spring rolls were fantastic. (They call them salad rolls). Had the seafood salad, grilled steak with lime sauce and power fried rice. This was plenty for 2 people. We had enough left for lunch the next day. I told them my heat taste was a 7/10. This was a little too hot for my husband but that's just personal taste. They said they would be an hour and they were almost 1 hour to the minute. Great food, reasonable prices and they deliver. Who could ask for more. If you're in the mood for Thai, go no further!

You can't go wrong. Very good food, perfect service. What else do you need? We had starters and three different meals. Everything was very good.

Beautiful website, but the actual restaurant and the food fell flat. It's not in a great location and the waitstaff was not very helpful. The food was marginal at best...My daughter had the pad thai and said--meh, it's not very good....wife had some sort of dish with many different proteins and her response was about the same. I had a very spicy pad kee mow---and it was very very spicy, but not exceptional. Probably the best thing we ordered were the lettuce wraps, although the outer layers of the lettuce were quite wilty.

Lanna Thai is located in PB, in the same complex as Sushi Ota (best sushi in SD). The parking lot up front it small, but there is a larger parking lot behind the building. I love their authentic Thai food! The offer a special lunch menu, which affords an excellent meal on a budget. Depending on what you get you can eat a large lunch portion for under $9 Each lunch special comes with a chicken broth based soup with onions and spinach, a main course, small salad with a peanut based dressing and a fried egg roll. Great service.

I love Thai food. I've always said that If I had to eat one food for a month, I'd pick Thai. So I'm picky. I chose Lanna Thai based on the TripAdvisor reviews, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is pleasant -- better than what you'd expect for a strip mall -- but nothing particularly special. I'm fine with that: I go for the food. The food WAS special -- generous portions, attractive presentation and really delicious. We had the panang curry, the pad prig khing and the drunken noodles. All were excellent -- the prig khing may be the best I've ever had. Our order was just right for two people, but we wish we were a larger group, since we were ogling dishes brought to neighboring tables. Will have to try them on the next visit, which there definitely will be!

We visited Lanna last October and found it this August to be just as good as it was then. My wife had the Thai barbecued chicken and I had the Tom Yum soup (seven on the hot scale) and the Bangkok Steak. We both opted for the brown rice side dish. All three dishes were excellent (I'm just glad I didn't pick eight on the hotness scale). The service was as friendly, courteous and efficient as always. Lanna is still one of the best Thai places in the San Diego area and the prices are more than reasonable.

The chicken supreme was absolutely delicious. Great place. Location is a little strange but definitely worth checking out.

We came here on advice of Locals and were not disappointed. The food was delicious. You could order your meal based on a hotness level 0..10. Perfect! The service was friendly.

So lucky to live close by, Been going for years & a favorite go to place for takeout for Oscar’s Emmy’s etc. They have very good Waite staff & the food is excellent. Love the spicy green beans (add your favorite protein or not) duck curry, trilicious salmon, Bangkok steak, Pad kee mao .... it’s all delicious, fresh & well presented. Like that they have good brown rice as well as white!

Consistently good food and quality service. I eat here regularly. I love all Thai food and this place represents. Wide noodles, curries and stir fries, all good.

Charming restaurant in what I thought initially was a questionable strip mall near the interstate. Once I walked in, all my concerns were wiped away by a pleasant atmosphere, attentive staff, and absolutely fantastic food. What a great break from normal beach vacation food!

The neighborhood is fairly blue collar, auto dealer yet nestled in a strip mall is a rather gourmet Thai restuarant. Great service, interesting menu, fair pricing.

Great food and service. The wait staff is warm and friendly, always such a pleasure to dine there.

A nice little place with very good food. Ten levels of spiciness so you can get what you want. Good service as well.

Try the pad Thai with a singha beer... best combination ever.. excelent service and the best Thai food.

Had the spicilicious seafood and my husband had the island treasure and we were both very satisfied. 5/10 spicy was perfect, loads of seafood in both our dishes, veggies were crisp and tasty, service was attentive and helpful. This place needs more attention and a better rating than 229! No alcohol-free beer, our only complaint.

I can't comment on the restaurant since I got my food delivered. They were professional and prompt. They estimated delivery in 45 minutes but it got to me in in 25 minutes. Now that's service! I'm not a fan of Thai food, but they did good. The food taste fresh and the portions were generous. Having read other reviewers, if I'm in the area, I will definitely visit the restaurant and take in the ambiance.

When I mention Thai food it's Lanna's before I can say another word. A pleasant atmosphere, a menu that is an adventure of real quality freash dishes and a nice dining experience. Starting out with Thai Tempura Golden fried battered shrimp, calamari, vegetables and sweet chili sauce. Thai Chicken Salad Grilled marinated chicken breast, mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, carrot, garlic lime dressing WOW! Duck Curry Five-spiced braised duck breast in rich red curry paste with grapes, pineapple, bell pepper, tomato, basil. I was asked what spicy hot 1 to 10? A 7 please. I could taste the flavor of this beautiful curry while getting high from this hot experience. A 6 is perfect for me.

A very nice local convenient restaurant. Did not need a reservation as it’s off the eaten track and most people head to downtown San Diego. Ideal for a light Thai dinner and great variety.

Located in a strip mall next to my hotel I wasn't sure what I would find. I was pleased to find a pleasant, quiet atmosphere with a very friendly and efficient staff. I ordered a pork/ginger sauce dish which was quite flavorful and more than filled me up. Check please? Under $12 including tax!! Being impressed I went back the following night and had the Summer Salmon (picture and description already uploaded). ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Overall I was so impressed with the experience I am thinking of making a trip back to San Diego with my wife just to eat here.

Followed Trip Advisor to Lanna Thai Cuisine. Great little place. Maybe15 tables. But great Thai food, very friendly service. Will let you control spiciness and ingredient mix. In a tiny strip mall, but do not let that put you off. Worth the trip from downtown or hotel circle.

Great spot. Great food, great service. Highly recommend Lanna's Platter if you are new to Thai food or want a sampler. The waitress even explained which sauces went with what food. I'll be back again!

Visited for dinner and loved the Royal Nest! The sauce was devine and the nest crisply soaked up the sauce. The shrimp and chicken combined with the fresh vegetables pulled the whole dish together. Service was good and the food arrived in a timely manner. My dinner companion had the barbecue chicken and was disappointed by the lack of any flavor. Therefore 4 stars instead of 5!

The food was rich in flavor. I've had a curry chicken with coconut rice and it was delicious. The staff was friendly, even with us arriving at 4pm to lunch.

We had traveled inland from our hotel to eat at Sushi Ota, but found it did not open for dinner until 5:30. Being on a tight schedule, we instead opted to eat at Lanna, just across the parking lot, which opened at 5. My group of 4 was very pleased with the choice. The appetizers and entrees were all very flavorful and nicely presented, and the thai iced tea was a nice change from the usual offerings. Service was mostly prompt and efficient, and the decor inside is modern and well kept without being stuffy. Would definitely go there again.

Boyfriend and I stayed at a nearby hotel while visiting San Diego. We drove past this place, saw all the cars in the lot and decided to give it a chance. The food was delicious, generous portions and reasonably priced. There was a good balance of meat, veggie and noodles(ie: there wasn't 3 pieces of shrimp, 5 pieces of broccoli and a pound of noodles). I Recommend this place if you're in the area.

Delivery! My favorite. The duck curry was soooooo flavorful and balanced. The pad Thai was also tasted very fresh and surprisingly creamy, not sticky. Fresh spring rolls, exceptional peanut sauce. Sure wish I lived here - I'd order from them weekly. And reasonably priced, too!

Lanna Thai is located in an unassuming strip mall just off the 5 freeway in Pacific Beach. The service was very good and the food extremely tasty. Although the basic dishes are offered, the most interesting dishes are modern trendy version of traditional Thai food. The Citrus Halibut in a bright lime, garlic sauce and Chu-Chee Fish in a red velvet Chu-Chee curry sauce were both outstanding.

Great atmosphere. Very intimate. My Aunt and Uncle love this place. After tasting the food it is clear why! The service was outstanding. The food was fantastic. Everything was fresh tasting. We started with the fresh spring rolls. Wonderfully prepared and tasty. My wife decided to venture from her comfort zone and tried a curry dish that had chicken, mangoes, grapes, pineapple, tomatoes and carrots. She thought it exceptional. I had Thai basil chicken. Probably one of the best prepared Thai dishes since I was overseas. Caution: on the hot scale I can take the heat kicked up at most establishments. I had my dish at a 3 of 10. It was hot enough to send me for a tissue but not so much to distract from the flavorful taste of the peppers, carrots and basil. Truely a great dish. I was trying to justify a second order but my companions wanted to move on.

Continuing my Thai food blow out in San Diego I chose Lanna Thai in the Mission Bay area. Nice part of town and a small nicely decorated Thai restaurant. Spoke to the staff in my limited but better than average Thai and that was all it took. Great service from that point on. Ordered up some Yum Neua (rare beef salad) requested very rare and extra spicy and got just that, also ordered Gang Ped Phet (duck curry) I asked for a little different combination of ingredients and they were happy to accommodate my request also Kow Pad Moo (pork fried rice) . More than enough food and it was great the next day for lunch! Spent a little time speaking Thai with the staff from Bangkok, Esan and Lao. I had a very enjoyable meal and will go back next time I am in San Diego!

Vegetarian & Thai Restaurant on Mission Bay Drive, next door to the Red Roof Inn. Very nice food, ample serves but not much in the way of ambience as it's in a strip of shops surrounded by Commercial & Industrial Companies. There's parking on site immediately in front. Would certainly revisit.

When we walked in we were greeted with a smile and wonderful smells of garlic and curry. We made reservations and they seated us right away. The staff was knowledgeable about the gluten free dishes and if they could be made GF. Our salad rolls came out right away and were delicious. The peanut sauce was warm which was a great contrast the cool crisp rolls. The spicy seafood had a lot of seafood. If was cooked just right the seafood was tender and hot. My friend got the basil fried rice and enjoyed it a lot. Both dishes were available on a spicy hot continuum of 1-10. The service was excellent and our water glasses never got empty. One of the best Thai restaurants I have visited.

We ate here on a recommendation and we were not disappointed with the food. The restaurant is located in strip mall in the Pacific Beach / Mission Bay area. The food was prepared very well and everything was quite tasty and good size portions. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. All in all a good place for very good Thai food in San Diego.

Loved everything we ordered here! Great space inside although the exterior is high 80's strip mall. Definitely recommend the yellow curry and Tropical Duck!

After striking out at Sushi Ato (no resee on a thursday and no seats available), tried my luck at Lanna and I was happy I did. The atmosphere was cool, wait staff were great, and the menu had some nice variety thai dishes. decided on the papaya salad and massaman curry with brown rice and shrimp. was nicely spicy and very tasty. will definitely go back next time am in SD. Well done!

Sizzling ginger veggies with soft tofu, perfect. Eggplant perfect. Island treasures, mussels in coconut perfect. Highly recommend the food in this lovely easy ambience.

Delicious food. Great friendly and super efficient service. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to this Thai restaurant!

We went to a Thai restaurant called Lanna for dinner Valentine's Day, evening. We were full after the first two courses. So, we had them package up the third course to take back to our condo for our lunch, the next day. Here is a cut & paste of the menu items we had. Really delicious. Lanna’s Platter Two each of Crispy Spring Roll, Sa-Tay, Curry Cup, Golden Triangle, & Fresh Salad Roll Spinach Wrap Shrimp or tofu, spinach leaves, roasted coconut, diced ginger, lime, red onion, peanuts, carrots, & aromatic herb sauce Honey Duck Roasted marinated duck glazed w/ honey ginger sauce, pickled ginger & crispy noodles We ordered basmati rice to eat with the duck, as well. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, & quick, friendly service. If, we are lucky enough to return to Mission Beach on the future, we will eat at Lanna's again.

This place is so good. All of their dishes are amazing. I love Thai food so finding a place that is good on all fronts is something I really appreciate.

I go to Thai restaurants quite frequently but this is one is outstanding. Great food, warm decor, reasonable prices. The Lana platter is to die for ad is the lemongrass companion.

Lanna Thai Cuisine has the best food in San Diego. The food is delicious and well prepared. Staff is courteous and efficient and will accommodate spice and other preferences. The menu is extensive and I've been delighted with all of my choices. Of particular excellence are the mussels! Lanna's prices are very reasonable and portions generous and while I enjoy eating at the restaurant, it's also convenient to occasionally use their take out service.

The food was really great for a small neighborhood restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, and because it was a local place, the prices were fair. It was so good that we actually ordered in dinner from them another night during our stay in Mission Beach. This restaurant was better than most Thai places anywhere, including NY.

Calamari extra portion with Green Curry about 3-4 level of heat....The Best! I always get it to go. It's a couple extra bucks for extra calamari but well worth it. My Daughter age 17 loves this place.

I have been eating Thai cuisine for many years now and thought that I could not be surprised. While visiting San Diego, after a long travel day we happened upon this unassuming location in a strip shopping center, but figured at least Thai we know what to get. There were four of us and each dish was extraordinary; we each ordered from the specialty page of the menu. I enjoyed the Talay Thai filet of sole with flavors and seasonings bright and tangy. My friends ordered the Honey Duck and the Tropical Duck and each found it moist and flavorful. The Royal Nest was excellent as well. We may our way there again...it was that good. The only thing we did ot like was the wait, but we did appear on a Saturday at 7:30 with no reservation. Prices were very reasonable as well.

If you like Thai food, this place is excellent. Great food and wonderful service! It is very busy so we went early. It fills quickly at dinner time.

Our family ages 70 down to 4 years old enjoyed the food thoroughly. Everything we ordered had a nice presentation, great flavors. The staff was wonderful and very patient and accommodating since we has two children in our group. We were a party of 15 and everyone was very satisfied with their choices. The price was reasonable for the amount of food.

Lanna Thai serves really good Thai food. The downside is that it's extremely overpriced. But if you're willing to pay, your taste buds will thank you.

The appetizers, soups and first plates are really, really, way beyond average Thai food. The entree was good but not as special as the appetizers.

Best thai restaurant for me. We had the sampler platter for appetizer. The Golden Triangle and chicken satay was my favorite from the sampler. For the entree, we had kee mao and pad thai noodles, power and crab fried rice, lemon grass bbq, and duck curry. Everything was excellent. The lemon grass dish was my least favorite but that's just because everything else was really good. I didn't get a chance to try the pad thai because I was full. Order wisely! The portion for duck curry was sufficient for 4 adults. My kids devoured the power fried rice and the mango sticky rice for dessert is excellent. Definitely coming back to this one.

Small, intimate, not pretentious, not expensive, and yet tasty and with good service. The yellow curry is superb and the shrimp patty is something you should try, at least once!

Lanna is one of our favorite restaurants for good food and casual (yet slightly sophisticated) dining. The interior decor is creative and well designed. We often bring friends here for lunch and dinner, as a result, Lanna is now on our friends' list of favorite local restaurants, too.

Airline weary, we battled California traffic and used Trip Advisor's recommendations to find a tiny oasis. An efficient server greeted us and within minutes, we were served our drinks and an appetizer of papaya salad, one of our favorites. One bite told us this was THE BEST EVER--full of fresh lime juice and an unusual red pepper. The dining adventure continued with delicious seafood served with crisp vegetables in portions ample enough to serve as the next day's lunch. We received such fabulous treatment that we took friends two nights later. What a joy to introduce them to Thai cuisine at its best!!!

WE spent 3 weeks in San Diego and ate there 4 times. Every time was 1st class. Service a little slow if busy but food always freshly cooked and service with a smile. Highly recommended.

Was wondering around the city with my sister not knowing what to eat. Stopped but the 7-11 to get our bearings when we spotted this jem. The food was amazing and the service was too. Thanks for hosting lost tourist so well.

This was my second Thai place to try and it was very delicious. I always get the Pad Kee-Mao with chicken level 10. The yellow curry is also very good. Service was ok

Went here with a friend while we were traveling in San Diego. Long story short -- it was awesome. Super flavorful, quite authentic. It's a bit hidden but well with the stop. I had the Green curry with chicken and would recommend that if you're a spicy curry fan.

We went with family, were a large group and plenty of kids. They sat us in a large long table which I always find it to be a plus (hate cluttered tables). Satai chicken for the kids was good and tender, and curries awesome...shame the amount of rice per dish is not enough, make sure to ask for at least two servings.

This a Jewel lots variety for the most picky eaters. The place is so charming of the freeway easy parking staff was okay not friendly but nice.

Met some friends there. Had the soft shell crab, Tom yum soup. Appetizer platter, duck curry, noodle. Food was wonderful. Service was good and restaurant was clean.

Visiting SD from NY and stopped in based on reviews. Small cozy restaurant in a strip mall type area. We had peanut satay, Thai beef. chicken/shrimp with coconut and Thai BBQ chicken. All very tasty. We enjoyed our meal. Wait staff quiet and laid back but that was fine.

Lanna Thai is hidden in a small and old strip mall, but the elegant interior is warm and inviting, so is the staff. What jumps out is the FRESHNESS! With so many Thai restaurant competing in the city, Lanna Thai is one we have depended on time and time again to always deliver.

My boyfriend and I LOVED this little restaurant! Their pad thai and appetizer sampler was absolutely amazing! Good customer service, great food, affordable prices equals one great thai restaurant! def a san diego gem ;)

While waiting to get into our favorite restaurant we read the menu here and decided we should return. It was a good idea, since it was even better than we thought it might be. The menu is quite extensive with typical Thai dishes and flavors and the spiciness offerings are 0 to 10, making it easy to get they kind of food each of us wanted. The beautiful décor makes one forget s/he is in a strip mall. The service was friendly and efficient. They have a few wines, beers and sakes and even a few “han” (vodka) cocktails – mostly sweet. They make gluten free, vegetarian and vegan dishes, too, but also have seafood, chicken, duck and beef dishes. One I must get next time is a seafood dish served in a green coconut. I also cannot wait to try the soft-shell crab and beef dishes sometime, too. The food is nicely presented and reasonably prices. In fact, the lunch menu includes a very nice platter for just $12. The peanut sauce for the veggie roll and satay was good, but I would have liked some heat. I have had more complex vinegar sauces for the satay, but cannot explain the difference. This tasted like water, vinegar and sugar, but others had something like fish sauce in them. I love duck, so had a problem picking the right duck (5 choices), worrying the sauce would take over the mild flavor. I also like curries, so chose a mild yellow curry with the duck breast. I didn’t really taste the duck much, so perhaps the roasted duck breast with a honey coating would have been a better choice to actually taste the duck. The green been spicy curry was also good. The seafood in noodle nest was a favorite and quite a lot to eat. I would say it was average for all the good Thai restaurants I have enjoyed and of course way better than the lousy ones I have visited. The interesting menu with varieties of choices was better than most, too. The ambience and great service push it over the edge to wonderful.

We enjoyed our dinner here. Good menu selection, good food, and good service. We will eat here again when in town!

My friend and I went for lunch. The food was delicious. The chicken satay was tasty. The luncheon specials are just the right amount of food and so good. The service was quick. Everyone was pleasant. Definitely would go again.

Average food and super bad service! The waiters were really antipathetic and almost threw us out because they wanted to close early.

So good we returned for another meal a couple of evenings later. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious with a choice of heat on a scale of 1 to 10 to suit all tastes.

This is a very good, reasonably priced Thai restaurant in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. We have been here many times, it never disappoints. Looking forward to many more Thai dinners at Lanna. Don't be blinded by the location in the strip mall, as Lanna is a jewel in the neighborhood.

Just enjoyed a great dinner here. Sampler platter and lettuce wraps were delicious and would have been enough for 2 people but we also ordered a noodle dish. Food was filling and delicious. Ambiance nice. We weren't planning on going here but enjoyed it thoroughly.

Visited this resturant that was highly rated, but we were disapponted. I had lamms shacks with a tasty massaman sauce, but unfortunately also very sweet. The lamb was temder but tasted a little "old". We had thai tempura as a starter which was two shrimps, fish and veggies. Tasted ok even though the tempura was a little thick. The pad thai was not that tasty, and the honey chicken was very sweet. We also tried the double with both chicken and shrimps in a creamy coconut sauce with lemon grass which was a little boring. The service was very good with friendly staff, and the food came very quickly, nearly surprisingly quickly. But the summary is that it was very sweet and food quality less then average, but delivered in a friendly and way. So service is good.

Went for lunch because I was hungry and it was close. Returned later on the same day for supper because the food and service was awesome! The set lunch offered many options and the portions were generous. Supper was a la carte and dinner for 2 including wine and dessert was less than $60. I had the Bangkok steak which was delicious and cooked to perfection. I'm going to miss San Diego and will miss Lanna's too. This is the exactly the type of restaurant that I wish we had close to home. Check it out, you won't regret it.

I was very disappointed in the shrimp and spinach leaves appetizer....have had previously and been VERY pleased. This time the ingredients were not as fresh or tasty. Also had an assortment of appetizers, which was a new selection, and did not like all the greasy fried selections....my fault, next time I will go with one of the curries which have been excellent in the past. So the jury is out as to whether this restaurant has gone downhill, or I just hit a bad night.

First-rate Thai food and they deliver! Since we didn't actually visit the restaurant, can't comment on the service or ambiance. However, our order was delivered in the time frame given us, it was complete and it was delicious. Portions were generous, we had leftovers for lunch the next day.

Lanna Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. I am lucky that it's near my work and I can go often. My co-workers and I get so excited when we think of the Tom Kha soup they offer with the lunch entrees. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable. I always feel so relaxed when I am there. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It's always busy but not too busy to walk in and dine. It's located in a strip mall off of Mission Bay Drive next to Planned Parenthood which is a bit of an odd location but once inside it's a very cute place. Their food is always consistent in quality and flavor. They offer a variety of the most popular Thai dishes. The food always taste fresh due to them using local produce. I love the Pa-Nang curry dish as well as the Vegetable Delight but I usually add chicken. Each dish usually comes with a little side salad and a fried spring roll. The average price for lunch is $12 an entrée. The décor is simple with touches of the Thai culture. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

Even though we had reservations, we almost left this restaurant because the hostess was going to put us in one of two terrible locations. All the tables were filled except for our table for twol Our server had them move the table to much more enjoyable location so we stayed. We enjoyed the quality food here. We ordered two entrees, the eggplant with shrimp and the salmon with 3 curry sauces, both at a 5 spice level. The eggplant was delicious but a little too spicy for me and even for my husband, who generally is good with spicy. The salmon spice was fine. I enjoyed the yellow curry sauce the most and my husband enjoyed the red curry sauce. Good prices for such excellent food. The fried banana and homemade coconut ice cream dessert was just ok. The ice cream was not creamy enough and a little icy.

This restaurant had great food but the service was so so. They had only one person that took orders. Their curry was very tasty.

This used to be our favorite restaurant. We even got a gift card from friends here, so tonight we called and ordered wanton soup, BBQ Thai Chicken, and Chicken Satay with extra peanut sauce. We have eaten here five or six times before and have always been delighted. Tonight the peanut sauce tasted like it had soap in it, the BBQ chicken was sitting in broth and falling off the bone with no Thai BBQ flavor whatsoever, the Satay chicken was rubbery and old. Nothing but the Wanton Soup was edible. When we called them they had no explanation or consideration for us. We have taken all our guests here and told everyone about it. We will not be going back. If they had at least attempted an explanation, we might have given them a second chance. As it is they lost a few good customers.

Atomosphere was divine, perfect: soothing, dimly lit. Service could not have been better. Food was fabulous. Very friendly to vegans.

In town for a bit of vacation, always looking for good Thai, since I consider it one of the healthier cuisines. And here, close to where I was staying, was just the place. A somewhat unusual menu, which expanded on the common fare, was the first surprise. In a small strip mall was another. But the food was excellent, decor pleasant, and service very pleasant. They obviously have a local following, and deservedly so.

My husband and I are long time customers. The food is fresh and delicious. My favorite is the Summer Salmon. Cooked to perfection and served on a bed of fresh spinach with a tangy mango salsa. The staff is friendly and efficient. Love the brown rice option. Truly a winner.

We went as a small group for a friends 57th Bday. We enjoyed it All. Service was good & I was skeptical because the business had opened as another version of a restaurant and became a Thai Vietnamese fusion establishment, but VERY Good!

An absolute must if visiting san diego,. Best thai restaurant ive ever visited and ive been to a lot,. Three of us in party and all of your meals were mouth wateringly good. Very friendly and attentive young male waiter but i cannot recall his name. Many thanks for a memorable meal.

I stayed in lodging nearby this restaurant and have been dining out in San Diego and La Jolla extensively for close to a week(mostly fine dining)...so I wanted a little break...and it was within walking distance. Let me start off with this... if I could give 4 1/2 rating I certainly would do so. I had the appetizer platter, so I can say that a broad section of the apps were covered ... the chicken date was particularly good. I followed with the fruity curry which was pretty good.... Not a top echelon Thai experience... but totally solid...service was above average too. Remember ... four and a half. And that’s pretty good.

There was 7 of us having dinner and everyone was happy with their meal. That is rare for our group of seniors. All tasted like it was prepared fresh. Excellent service and very nice decor. We have eaten at about a dozen Thai restaurants in our area. This is in the top 3 for food quality. Maybe number one for service. It has become our Thai place for our weeks at the beach.

Came to restaurant location from advice of local personnel. My wife was in wheel chair from broken leg. This place in not disabled friendly. It was cold outside, so some of party members were inside doorway. Not enough room for wheel chair. So door was keep open for us to talk with daughter. Who just got married. Waiter came and shut the door on wife. Very rude to us. We left over it. I hope manager or owner gets a message that disabled people matter.

Really enjoyed our visit. Nice appetizers and all five of us liked our entrees. Fresh, balanced flavors, beautiful presentation.

We love this restaurant and have been coming for years. Their food is very good and the prices are also very reasonable compared to other Thai restaurants. I also like that they have beer and wine. We also get take out food from here and they even deliver in the local area!

Excellent service timed right and a varied, huge menu with perfect prices. We had the flat noodles and coconut yellow curry, spring rolls, salad and smooth, creamy green tea ice cream with black toasted sesame seed topping. Go. I said so. It was the Goldilocks experience: just right.

Great location with close parking. Fast service, excellent quality, with nice size portions. Large selection of items and you get to select the degree of spice. Nice decor. Will come again.

Great local spot. Had the lambshank and the chicken satay. Service was suberb the lychee saki was amazing!!

Not the best I've ever had, but the crab fried rice was delicious. My niece eats here regularly and says it's one of her favorites in the area. Very easy to get to off the I-5 in Pacific Beach. One day we wanted delivery mid-afternoon, but they're not open all afternoon, just open for lunch and then later for dinner. Check times before going.

I have been eating lunch and dinner at Lanna for over 10 years. I no longer live in San Diego but just visited again. The quality has not change. One of the top places for Thai!

After several attempts in San Diego we found Lanna Thai Restaurant, a small inviting atmosphere with a gracious hostess and waiter. Very reasonable prices for exceptionally good Thia food. Try the eggplant, it was delicious as was the curry duck. It was the very best Thai food we found in the area. I recommend it highly.

I and others stumbled into this very nice Thai eatery when I couldn't get into its neighbor, Sushi Ota. Both are in this nondescript shopping strip at the outskirts of Pacific Beach. Its quiet and serenity are in marked contrast to its neighbor and it never seems crowded although the food is good and price is reasonable, with courteous service and a good variety of dishes.

Once discovered, you will not go anywhere else. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance. Very clean, very personable, very good food.

The ambiance here is relaxed elegance. Our table was ready for us right on time and the seating was comfortable. The noise level is subdued, even though the restaurant was full. There was linen on the table and the wait staff was attentive and professional but not intrusive or effusive, just right. The food is the reason to dine here. It is really excellent, with fresh ingredients and delicious Thai classics as well as some unique dishes. We often have larb as an appetizer. This is the best larb preparation in San Diego. The Thai Tempura is a generous portion, delicious and fresh, the Satay is very good, and the spinach wrap is inventive and tasty but could perhaps be served as a salad! The Tom Kha soup is incredible and mouth watering. For main courses, the Fruity Curry is one of our favorites. Summer Salmon is fresh and tasty. The Tropical Duck is delicious and a generous portion as is the Chicken Supreme. The Yellow Curry with Chicken is wonderful and the Pad See-Ew with either octopus or chicken is delicious. The prices are reasonable for this type of quality. Highly recommended. You will need to make a reservation not to be disappointed. This is a very popular place and the seating is limited.

It's in a strip mall, but once you walk in the door, you know this is not just your run-of-the-mill Thai place. Nice linen, understated decor. The food is superb, offering dishes I'd never heard of. My favorite right now is Chicken Supreme which is succulent strips of chicken, broccoli, spinach and carrots in a peanut curry sauce. Very flavorful. My husband loves the summer salmon which is very moist and comes with spinach and lots of papaya. The papaya salad is made with a light green papaya--new to me. I'm not sure I love it, but it is fresh and cooling. Friends last night had glass noodles with shrimp which come in a lovely broth, and massaman curry with duck--so tasty. Service is helpful and polite. A wonderful place.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable dinner experience at Lanna. The restaurant is smallish and intimate with very modern decor. One negative, at least for us, is the tables for two that are side-by-side with one diner sitting on a couch that runs along the wall. This puts both parties in such close quarters that it's difficult to have a private conversation. That said, the staff is extremely professional, courteous and accommodating and there are a few tables set up for two. The food is prepared very well and the presentations are excellent. We started with the Lanna plate, an appetizer featuring four or five good sized samples. My wife had the egg plant and I opted for the duck. She requested spicing at 4 (on a scale of 1 to 10) while I chose a 7. Hers was just fine, but I felt mine was still a bit light on the hotness scale. Overall this Thai place is excellent. They do do a substantial take-out business and people are constantly coming in to pick up their orders.

We happened to notice this restaurant nearby our hotel and decided to try it. Very good decision! Tasty appetizers and amazing main courses. Be careful on the spicy levels! Staff was very attentive. Decor inside was interesting as well. Well worth a try!

Followed Trip Advisor to Lanna Thai Cuisine. Wife shrimp pad Thai and my crispy cashew and tofu were elegantly prepared and tasted great. Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. This is a great place to try out Thai food if you are not familiar. They are very careful to determine your tolerance for spice and they are very good at controlling the level of spice requested. Meat eater or vegan, you will not be disappointed.

We tried Lanna Thai because of a recommendation from a friend. My partner and I absolutley love Thai food and my partner lives to eat very, very, very hot food! We started with fresh spring rolls and I ordered the green curry and my partner the spicy noodles. The waitress asked us to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 how hot/ spicy we wanted our meals. I said 3 which she said was 'normal' (to me it was pretty spicy!) my partner asked for 12/10! Yep! He loved it! He was sweating, his nose was running, he was in heaven! We would definitely go back when in the area.

We dropped our daughter off at beautiful University of San Diego. Our first dinner together as empty nesters and due to some over the top TripAdvisor reviews we gave Lanna a try. Those reviews were SPOT ON! Best Thai I have had period! Small pretty little restaurant tucked into a strip center. Jammed with repeat customers . My spring rolls were fresh and served with the best peanut sauce I have had. My honey ginger duck was as good a plate as I have had this year. My wife's lemongrass chicken was awesome. The Thai wonton soup was perfect. Family owned. Friendly. In auspicious but classy, beautiful plates. Amazing flavors. In over 100 reviews no award of 5 stars.... Until Lanna. Totally wonderful. Just go!

Great Thai place we tried during our family trip. Everything we ordered was flavorful and delicious. We ordered Pad Thai, Basil beef, and red curry. Busy popular place and service was great.

This is a wonderful restaurant with fabulous authentic thai food. The food is fresh in taste and appearance. The wait staff was very polite and attentive. We were a largish party with a number of requests and dietary restrictions. They happily accommodated us and were able to accurately and quickly deliver our meals. Good parking in the rear of the building.

We love Lanna for fresh and healthy Thai food with a cozy, zen-like, hip atmosphere. It was such a nice place inside and service was great. We started with Mango Shrimp Rolls, Fresh Salad Rolls and Tom Kha soup. All were excellent, we had to fight for the second round of the soup left in the bowl. Then for entrees we got Bangkok Steak, Lanna Fitness, Royal Nest, and Duck Curry. All of them were really good, my favorite was Duck Curry. They used lean meat Duck breast and the spicy was just right. We also got Sweet Rice with fresh Mango and Crispy banana with coconut ice-cream, DELICIOUS !!! Don't forget to try their Martinies. I had Mangotini and my friend had Lannatini and Ginger Cosmo. They all were yummy. We stayed at the hotel across the street. It was great to have a nice restaurant near by.

The strip mall where it is located only has about 20 parking stalls and it serves a 7-11 and sushi restaurant. Lot was full when we arrived but a stall opened up within 5 minutes of arrival. Restaurant is small and it not hard to hear what is being conversed at other tables. That is probably a small negative. Food was excellent, service efficient and pricing was reasonable. We especially liked the modern decor, all in excellent condition. We're going to return one more time before we leave San Diego.

First time here and I want back a 2nd night. Food was great and price was good. Service needs some help but it's great food for the price. I really did hp back two nights in a row

Food was amazing! Went here because we stayed next door & the girl there recommended it to us.custom service was a little off but they were really busy. Sweet & sour plate was delicious. Wish I could have eaten more :).

Outstanding for dinner, delicious entrees, gracious service, lovely setting. The summer salmon is memorable with mango served over spinach. Ethereal dessert of green tea ice cream, fried banana topped with black sesame seeds that put it over the top!

Lanna Thai is an attractive restaurant with pleasant service, large portions, and fair prices. The food was very disappointing. Our two very different dishes appeared to have much the same seasoning--salt and heat. The thick noodles with chicken was reasonably good. The beef with green beans was selected from the "Wok" section, but it seemed to have been steamed rather than wok-cooked. There were too many undercooked green beans of uncertain origin; the beef was poor quality, beige in color, and cut far too thickly. A watery soup at room temperature preceded the lunch specials. Parking in this strip mall and surrounding roads was very difficult.

If you love Thai food, this is the place. Both lunch and dinner are great. They do deliver in the Mission Bay, Bayho area. This is a very popular place, especially during dinner and even more so on week-ends. The atmosphere is great, but the food is just perfect. We love the barbeque chicken, yellow thai curry, pad thai, and much more. Their peanut sauce for the Satay is wonderful, as well as all the sauces. The service is very helpful and delivery great too, although you have to allow time during busy dinner hours.

Been several times over the last year. Staff are great, place is nice / comfortable. The Thai Tea Ice Cream is a nice way to finish after a hot day in the sun.

I love Thai cuisine and tried their Pud Thai which was just average. Probably my expectations were quite high as previous week i had one of the best Pud Thai in Atlanta! The ambiance and service was very good. The prices are inline with other Thai restaurant.

I love Miang Kum (spinach wrap)! So delish and a good enough reason to add a Restaurant to the List. Lanna Thai is a fancied up solid Thai place putting a little twist on things. It isn't 100% authentic but 100% good and still keeping the taste profiles intact. Service started out a little surly but luckily she recovered. Disclaimer- we arrived late for Lunch-not closing time but as most people were talking over their empty Lunch plate. We ordered Miang Kum and it was perfect. Grilled Shrimp versus dried but dried Shrimp doesn't have the same fan club! Lots of nice choices here! Larb was good too-and the Duck although not what I was expecting another solid dish. Lanna takes Duck Breast slices, quick fry, served on fried rice noodle then topped with sauce. I saw the Salmon go by and I'd return for it and to dig deeper into the Menu. We ordered, ate and warmed the heart of our Server when she realized we came to eat not Camp past business hours. Decor' 5 Stars (for this neighborhood) Bathroom Cleanliness 5 Stars Fresh Flowers 5 Stars Food 5 Stars Service 4++ Stars for thinking we were twits

I've been on a search for the best Pa-Nang (panang) Curry this side of Thailand. =_) This Pa-Nang Curry is my top 2 so far as of 2017. Delicious... You can choose between 1-10 for spiciness. I went with a 4 which would be a mild. When I go back, I'll do a 5 though. The Satay appetizer was also great. We finished the evening with the Coconut Ice Cream which was great. The staff was friendly and professional. My colleague and I just had a great time. I've attached pictures for your consideration.
Peaceful
After a long day of hustle and bustle, Lanna Thai was a quiet Refuge. I went on a Tuesday night, notoriously slow retail day. Plenty of parking and open seating. I was quickly seated and had my glass of wine nearly instantly. I ordered the Bangkok Steak. Flavorful as well as expertly cooked. Melt in your mouth doesn't begin to cover it. Don't miss this place!
