It was my 21st whilst in Portland and my Mum had booked this place for my birthday meal. Service was excellent and the food even better. The cocktails are rather unique so I would stick to wine. The choice of steak cuts is varied and many are unusual (at least compared to our cuts in the UK). We had a couple of different cuts on our table and they were all brilliant. Dessert was selected and brought out by the server in account of my birthday. I'm not a dessert person and I would not have selected the desserts we received but they really were excellent.

This place is awesome. Delicious menu and delicious food. We had the special rib eye and it was a splurge for us but it was the most amazing, well seasoned piece of meat. We had great wine, nice service and like the lively atmosphere. Loved it!

o This was my second visit and I had been so excited to return after my first that I was worried I might end up disappointed – I was not. This place serves up the best steak I’ve had and has some of the best servers I’ve had the pleasure to tip. I actually like my meat really well done, which is taboo here, so I went with the flow and am here to tell you that these guys know what they’re doing. There’s also a great drink selection – wine, beer and cocktails. The prices are up there (not actually relative to steakhouses), but so is the value. While this might not be a cheap date spot, it’s a good one; it can also be a good place to meet friends for a birthday, or as I understand it you can just sit at the bar, which rolls up the door in the summer. Dress up, dress down, whichever, just bring an appetite! you'd also be wise to make a reservation.

Another great meal at Laurelhurst. Showed up about 20 minutes late for our reservation (Friday night traffic) but we were seated with no problem. Wedge salad and steak frites for me were spot on. My wife loved the three-course special. Mostly for carnivores, but some choices are not totally meat-centric.

Wonderful food. This is primarily a beef restaurant. The server took a great deal of time explaining the different cuts of beef and what we could expect. I happened to order the salmon special which was out of this world. The yogurt-pistachio beets were also a huge hit.

The restaurant is located in the same building than a butcher's shop, and the menu reflects that. Meat lovers, this is your place. The choice of pate was amazing, and I wish I could have bought some to take home. I had the beef tongue, and it was served in a creative manner, a crispy, and the taste was very pleasing. We then had some steaks, and once again, the overall quality was really good. We also loved the restaurant atmosphere. The room is large and even though it was packed, it did not feel crowded at all. Staff was nice and helpful. When it was time to pay the check, it ended up being reasonable for what we had. Meat is expensive but this place wasn't more than we expected. The only downside for us is that is restaurant is in Porland and not closer to home - I would be there all the time!

My family did a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our server was very friendly and got our wine opened and drink order taken. She recommended some of their best dishes and we ordered. We had salad, the mac and cheese and entrees of Steak frites, a waygu cullotte steak and the pork chop. the food arrived perfectly done and was delicious. Adding the horseradish cream sauce was and excellent addition to all the entrees. We added beignets with a chocolate sauce that the restaurant gave us as a birthday surprise. We were never rushed, the server was amazing and our food and overall experience was excellent. I always look forward to going here and cannot give it a higher recommendation.

Great little place. If you are a meat lover (not necessary, though), this is the place to go! Good food , good service, and good times. NOT your run-of-the-mill steak house! Go there to have your taste-buds amazed! Good wine list also.

We were disappointed. We've been working on the best sandwich list and after reading a December, 2016 review, we went here in search of the 'excellent grilled Reuben stacked wrist thick with house made corned beef and sauerkraut'. We couldn't wait. It must have been a special as it was no where on the menu. So we ordered the cold corned beef with cheese and aioli on roll thinking at least we'd get a taste of that great corned beef. Let me just say that three or so very thin slices of corned beef don't make a sandwich - the amount was much less than half the heighth of my pinky - almost non-existent. The aioli was very good, I'll say that. We should have brought our sandwiches back - too bad we both ordered the same thing - but didn't. Our bad. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the place for lunch. There are many great places for lunch in Portland but this isn't one to waste your time on. You'd be better off at a food truck.

I was in Portland to visit friends. I wanted to take them out for a steak dinner. This is their favorite places to eat. To their surprise, I managed to get reservations for a Friday night the day before.... It was everything they described, The food and service were both excellent. A must try is the Beef tartare. We also had clams and shrimp for appetizers. We all sampled a different Whiskey. My guest insisted on having a burger. I had Tuna with fresh grilled veggies and it was delish. No room for dessert. Nice laid back restaurant. Loved the décor....

The highlight of my meal was the best chicken liver pate' I've ever eaten. Their other pate's were delicious but the chicken was over the top. The steaks were tasty, tender and properly prepared. Don't miss this place. Very nice menu selections but the chairs could use a pad or two. Maybe that's how they turn the tables as there was no inkling of an effort to move us out the door. Extremely enjoyable dinner.

We loved this restaurant as recent, first-time visitors to Portland over a long weekend. It came recommended by two different native Portlanders. The ambience is low-key but special. Service was friendly, helpful, and personalized. My husband loved the flank steak prepared with chimichurri sauce, and I sampled the oysters, pickle/sausage plate, and the steamed clams appetizer: all were fantastic, especially that spicy sausage! Highly recommend this place.

We had dinner here twice one week and were quite impressed. Not an expansive menu, six beef entrees, perhaps the same amount of seafood choices, appetizers, salads. The deviled eggs were unique- fresh eggs and not at all tangy, the coffee crusted flat iron was excellent as was the hanger steak. We shared a Cesar and my date loved it, I thought it was fine, did not try the seafood. The desert was impossibly good, we ordered the same both nights- a French dish called Beignets, for the layman, it’s incredibly light donut holes, covered in cinnamon sugar with a dark chocolate dipping sauce. I sampled the chocolate and it was smooth and okay, tasted a beignet and it was pleasant. But the combination was wonderful, the kind of desert where you resist a second bite as not to stop the magic still on your tongue. Outstanding!

The "smoke signal" drink is spectacular. The Iceberg lettuce salad is OK. I'm sure the $40+ steaks are great, but I can't eat that much red meet. Maybe I should have split one, because the less expensive steaks just aren't special. I also found the room uncomfortably tight. Service was competent, but not very polished. If you're in the mood for a steak, you can do better!

Took our daughter here for her birthday. We were not disappointed with the food and the service. It's a steakhouse with a meat gift shop in a semi-industrial modern decor off of Burnside in Portland. We got two appetizers: bone marrow and foie gras. The bone marrow is good but the foie gras... just out of this world! Next time, we'll get two of those to share at the table. My wife got the steak and greens, b-day daughter got the strip steak, youngest daughter got the kids burger and I got the Snake River Farm Wagyu Culotte. All were just excellent with Golden Beets and Mac&Cheese for sides. Just a fantastic meal.

I dined here with friends from Chicago who were hungry for great beef. Our dinners were very good with excellent side dishes, but I think at least one of my friends would have liked a more traditional filet or prime rib. Such items don't seem to be on the menu -- or at least the 3 times I've eaten there.

This remodeled convenience store is typical for modern restaurants, open kitchen, hard surfaces, close together tables make for a rather loud dining experience where you are as likely to here the next tables conversation as your own. The meat is very good. I had a pot roast type of meat served with creamed Kale. It was out of this world. It was part of the $29 March fixed price menu. With one side, one wine pairing and one coffee it was $83 for two. The service is very good. The restaurant is open 5-10 pm daily. The meat market is open earlier if you want to get sausages, pates, or fresh meats to go. This would be a great place to take guests or for a very nice family dinner.

Wednesday nights are not supposed to be like this, but Laurelhurst Market was a very busy place. We were seated on time and the service was slow but friendly. Maybe our waiter had too many tables to attend to. We ordered the Louisiana Boudin as a shared appetizer. Very good. My wife had the Wagyu Culotte and I had Steak & Greens. Both very tasty and good sized. Our friends ordered a wedge salad, a pork dish and the Steak & Greens too. Wine and beers were the beverages. However, the beers were forgotten for a while. Then the keg blew. Finally a 2nd beer arrived (on the house they said!). The wedge salad was also forgotten, never came. Then decaf coffee was ordered with dessert. That was finally delivered in a paper cup as we were on the way out of the restaurant. All in all, not a great experience.

I was a part of a larger group, yet my health conditions restrict my red meat- my ONLY choice was a very small side salad- even though they have grilled veggie sandwich with cheese, which they were unwilling to give anyone a side of just grilled veggies. The sandwiches others had for lunch were just OK based on their reviews, nothing special. Why this is is a top 100 restaurant in Portland on Trip Advisor is beyond me-- I can name many much better. think of this as as deli not as a full service restaurant. If you want something other than meat, a sandwich or fries, go somewhere else.

Really wanted to love this place based on the reviews. A family outing so we were able to order a mix of entrees and sides. The restaurant is very very noisy. Wish there is a way to dampen the noise volume somehow. It is a also very crowded with tables so close to one another and narrow aisles. The food, from the fish of the day, the steaks (rib eye and flat iron) and the pork chops were cooked exceptionally well. What we all walked away with, however, was why everything so salty? This is why they get a lower rating. Value-wise, the entrees were reasonable, but $7 and $8 for sides is a bit much.

Stopped with my fair spouse after work. She came from her job, me from mine. Took a chance with no reservations, they were able to help us. Note to self: next time make sure to get a reservation! It would have been a crime to miss this meal. We shared a shrimp cocktail. Yeah I know.....a shrimp cocktail how boring.......NOT! The shrimp were perfectly poached, the citrus, cocktail sauce was amazing. The shrimp aoli was incredibly flavorful and truly made this perfect dish amazing. We then split a ribeye, with the smoked mushrooms and Yukon Gold potatoes. Again amazing! The ribeye had a guacamole cream and padron peppers on it and was one of the best steaks I have had this year. The mushrooms were amazing and even simple Yukon gold potatoes were transformed. We had several glasses of their by the glass of Rioja that went perfectly with the meal. For dessert? Salt caramel chocolate tort with Rum cinnamon ice cream. I knew they were good, we'd had a special event dinner there last year, but as a stop by spur of the moment dinner, it was just amazing. Don't miss this gem!

Went for my birthday dinner with family/friends......I rarely order steak in a restaurant, BUT my son convinced me to give this a try.......what an eye opener! Our server, Mike was so informed on the various cuts and what temperature was the best for each cut of meat--in fact, he brought a cut to the table and pointed out what portion of it was included in the dish I was interested in. This was also my first experience with steak tartare---could not believe how good it was. I tasted 3 appetizers and 4 entrees--fabulous! People at the table also raved about the duck and pork chop---I would absolutely go again............and ask that Mike be our server--he is a wonder--also very knowledgeable about spirits. Judy

Great atmosphere, get a reservation they will be slammed for a long time! Telena Thanks for your Service and making our time together special.

This place was packed on a Thursday evening at 6PM. Service and food were great. Also the people watching as there were so many people in not a huge space. It did not really feel cramped either. We started with the charcuterie plate and it was plenty for 2. I had the hanger steak and grilled artichoke and roasted yellowbeats. Delicious. Decent wines by the glass. Hubs had a steak and greens and ate some of my veggies. He does not drink so app, 2 steak dinners 2 ala carte veggies and 2 wines came to 85.00, which I think is a deal. We had to park down a side street the parking lot is tiny, but it was just a short walk.

I highly recommend LM. We had a wonderful experience there last week. My wife had the Crowley Chardonnay, daughter and her friend had Txakolina, some kind of orange wine and I went through two glasses of Cabernet Franc. All quite pleased. We shared a small Charcuterie Board which had quite a variety, including Venison Pate, Wild Boar Pate, house made German Bologna, Soppressata (?), Mortadella, a cherry Mostarda, and Crostini. Entrees, wife: Steak & Greens, daughter: double cut pork chop, friend: Hamburger, me: Steak Frites. It was all wonderful, Steak was very tender, pork chops the most tender we've ever had (brined overnight). Steak frites had the biggest pile of fries I've every seen. Ate my fill and split the leftovers 3 ways the next day. We shared a Chocolate Caramel Mousse between the four of us and it was insane. Yikes what a tasty dessert.

Laurelhurst Market a great dinner in a quaint setting. First time at the Laurelhurst Market. The Marriott Courtyard Portland Airport recommended this spot and we thank them for that. The server, Sasha, was great and the food (everything we had) was outstanding. Great location, outside dining, great service and great food...it doesn't get any better than that.

This restaurant is for carnivores, vegans keep moving. Had a most delicious dinner of their flank steak prepared with chanterelles and golden beets. The portion was just right. Sometimes restaurants overwhelm the plate with massive amounts of meat, but not here. You were left sated and not overly full. At our table we had the deli eggs, onion rings and fries. The fries came with a creme freche sauce that had a touch of horseradish (I think.) All of us enjoyed our plates thoroughly and only clean dishes were returned to the kitchen.

Wow, saw this place on Bazaar Foods TV show last year. It was as good in person as it looked on TV. I love pate, they have a few different kinds to choose from. I ordered the "Charcuterie plate" which includes 2 types of pate, beef heart and a house special, 3 different sliced meats, pickled onions, sliced home made sliced pickels, 2 kinds of mustard, and croustini. NOT a veggi plate for sure. This is a meat market, full bar, serves lunch and also dinner, I am going back for dinner. I live 45 minutes away, worth the trip for sure! If you find yourself in Portland, don't miss this place.

Laurelhurst Market consistently makes the top five or ten best steaks in Portland. It was a good steak, but there are better steaks in the Portland area. The service was fine, and the atmosphere was casual. For a restaurant known for its steaks, I found the steak options to be fairly limited. I'm not a fan of al carte steak houses. Yes, I got a little potato think on my plate, but the actual sides were an add on. If I'm paying $60 for a steak, I consider it an insult to pay another $15 for some asparagus Wifes steak was the special for the day, a filet, and it was good. The green sauce was funky. My steak, a rib eye, was fairly thin but well cooked. It came with a chili based sauce which I didn't appreciate with the steak. Great restaurant to have in the neighborhood, but I likely won't drive out of my way to go again. There are better steaks in the area with better parking and easier access for similar prices.

Nice environment, good food, friendly staff. The menu is protein and vegetable rich. Lots of meat cuts to choose from as well as nice salads. I had the iron flat with artichokes which was excellent. There is also a great selection of wines! If you want to spend a night with friends this is a good place to go to.

Often pork chops are a bit tough. Here it was tender and juicy with a wonderful flavor. They slice strips off the bone and leave the bone for those tasty crispy bits. Also ordered at our table was their burger that was more flavorful then any I've tasted.

One of the best tartar steaks we’ve tried in a long while, and we try it in every country we visit, on every continent… Smoked bone marrow was a winner too - delicate and flavorful, Filet Mignon was perfectly “medium rare”, as requested. All in all - outstanding experience, highly recommend.

I went to Laurelhurst Market tonight with my family and it was easily the best meal I've had in a long time! I had the flat iron steak and the Mac and cheese and I tasted the wagyu! It was absolutely incredible. Our server's name was Mike and he was so helpful and kind! I would totally recommend this place to everyone!

Enjoyed our sandwiches and I really liked that you could order a half size since I can never finish a whole one. Also, their fries were really crispy and delicious. Not a fan of ordering at the counter and bussing your own table - especially if you are asking me to tip. I would go back again for lunch.

Spent a special meal here with my husband for his birthday. Great choices of cuts, not overly pricey. Cocktails were inspiring. Waitstaff was excellent and could speak to the menu.

The prices seemed high for the number of children we saw, and the quality of food was inconsisent. Three of us had Ceasar salad (blah), another salad (average blue cheese), steak (tough), frites (highly overseasoned), pork (tender and tasty), service was pleasant. We hoped to find the restaurant had improved since our last visit, but no. This was our 3rd and last visit.

My wife and I are always trying to find amazing places, and we just found one. I wish I had found this place years ago, but it is quite a drive for us. Anyway, we went here for a sandwich...and what did we get...one of the best masterpieces we have ever had in Oregon. We travel all over, and for some reason the East Coast tends to be way better at making sandwiches. Not any more. We found our GO TO. So simple, so basic, so good. This is a butcher shop, so all of the meats and cheeses are fresher than any other place. They slice the items when ordered. The breads are to die for. I added some marinated cinnamon onions on the side that i put on my sandwich...and WOW. I had the roast beef and cheddar on Ciabatta bread drenched in olive oil and vinegar with mayo. Just typing this, I want to go and have another one. This place is a deli by day, and steak house by night...My wife and I can't wait to come back...matter of fact, we are on our way to the coast today....hmm...it is almost lunch time.

Great food with yummy different sauces. And the mac and cheese is a MUST - every table must have at least to share. Bar was small, but we had a delicious hand made, fresh lemon drop martini pre-dinner. Wine list was good. I enjoy an open kitchen concept. Laurelhurst Market had a neighborhood feel - felt like we had stumbled upon a secret away from high dollar downtown restaurants.

My coulette steak was prepared perfectly and the accompaniments were excellent. The service was great. I left my phone by accident, and when I went to pick it up the next day they had even charged it up for me!

Popped along here with friends for an evening meal. The staff are really welcoming and immediately seated us per our reservation. We all ordered a platter to starting consisting of various cheeses and meats. Perfect amount of food for 4 people. Ordering the steak is a little complicated from the menu, it's different to the majority of menus you usually see at restaurants. Anyways, I ordered the filler which was amazing. The sides and fries were also delicious and presented really well. I would say this is more focused for adult eating or teenagers with their parents. I didn't see any young children. Definitely worth a trip off a tasty meal.

The Teres Major is a wonderful cut of meat and was the highlight of the meal. The Steak Frites was incredible as well. The place can get a bit loud, but overall it is a nice casual steak house, with great service.

Just finished a RB san with herb lettuce, tomato, and Dijon on levain. Absolutely perfect from the first bite to the last. Moist. Extremely flavorful. Lots of meat. Plenty of lettuce. Moist bread that held together til the last bite. High quality meat without those chunks of fat and gristle found in most RB sands. Topped it off with a chocolate chip filbert (aka hazelnut) cookie. Oh my. The two others in my group were also highly impressed with their sans—both smoked turkey. Go there!

We stopped in for Saturday lunch and were amazed and disappointed. Amazed because they have gourmet (and pricey) sausages and pates and beef in the meat case. Want rib steak for $26.95/pound? You can get it here. Want 4 different kinds of pate? You can get it here. Want to have a sandwich - one of their daily specials - for lunch? Forget it. We each ordered the "Cold Corned Beef on baguette with spicy pickle relish, red onion, Swiss cheese, mayo, and Dijon" for $10.95. Lunch does not include table service; order at the cash register and pick up your sandwich when they call your name. Had to wait over _20 minutes_ for it to be made. The baguette was stale and so tough to bite that I had to gnaw off pieces with my back molars. The sandwich was sorta tasty, but I've had better at my local Safeway deli counter, and for $6.95 instead of $10.95. I can only think you're paying for the trendy, gentrified location, because the lunch certainly wasn't worth it.

I haven’t ordered a steak in a restaurant in years. But friends wanted to try it, and it was superb, absolutely the best I’ve had including some I’ve grilled myself. Everything was good—the cucumber and strawberry salad, the lamb confit, the pork chop, even the kids hamburgers. The stone fruit cake was large, and delicious, as was the ice cream. One of our party ordered a Manhattan and said it was the best she’d ever had. Service was great—personable and very efficient. One little quibble was with the salad that came with my steak. It was immense, full lettuce leaves, and nearly falling off the plate. It completely overwhelmed the steak, which made the portion seem tiny. The Parmesan was a nice touch but it could have benefited from a little dressing and a smaller size because it was impossible to cut the leaves without pushing the salad off the plate, which leaves the diner feeling clumsy. Still, everyone did a really good job.

This is not a market, although they sell all of their onsite meats in a deli. A culinary experience from their charcuterie tray, to the type of menu you just cannot decide which to choose. Very crowded, snug space, reservations a must. Parking is limited , a few rounds around the block and you will find something in the neighborhood. Check out their impressive wine list, and certainly ask your server to guide you if you have menu questions, extremely knowledgeable they are!!

Steaks were great and service was really enjoyable. Occasion was an adult birthday and we couldn't have picked a better place. Quiet neighborhood.

If you make it to this wonderful meat market/restaurant on Wednesday during the lunch hour, you might be able to snag a Steak Melt sandwich. Yumm. Who doesn't love steak for lunch?

We have been to Laurelhurst Market many times during our visits to Portland. They have top quality food and creative presentation. The staff is professional and hospitable. We forgot we needed a reservation but they found a table for us. My husband had steak and I had delicious and crispy roasted organic chicken that was embellished with delicate tiny greens and veggies. Order the French fires. Salads are very fresh. I would highly recommend this restaurant and bar. It's right on Burnside around 30th in the Kerns neighborhood.

Heard about LM over a year ago and finally got the occasion to go for dinner. Spent the evening there with my family to celebrate my birthday and my daughter’s. Everything was as perfect as can be. We were warmly welcome when we entered. Our table was readied and we were seated. Nothing felt rushed. Our server went through the menu, got drink orders and then our appetizers. Food was spectacular and we hadn’t ordered entrees yet. The dinners were so good. Everyone raves about their meals. And for good reason. Love this place. Hope to return soon.

Our group of four (two visiting from LA) had dinner at Laurelhurst Market and we LOVED our meal! I had the pork chop which was perfectly salted and sat in a bed of sweet vanilla scented creamed corn. The mixture of savory and sweet flavors was delicious! Our group also tried the hanger steak and the flat iron steak, which were fantastic! Our waiter Jared was great, and his associate brought us a complimentary dulce de leche semifreddo, which again was a pefect blend of some slightly salty ice cream with sweet passionfruit syrup. This is a superb eatery and a must-visit if you are in Portland.

This is by far THE best steak house we have experienced in the Portland Metro area. several other wonderful offerings as well besides steaks .. like killer mac & cheese, fois gras, bone marrow and a few delicious specialty sauces. wow, what a find, we had their steaks 2 weeks ago from their butcher shop and grilled them at home - incredible flavor & tenderness. when we decided to try their rib eye steak in the restaurant we were delighted to learn that the night's special was a 40 OZ rib-eye bone in steak for 2 !!! Wow .. just look at the picture below! btw, service was TOP NOTCH .. such attention to detail and very friendly. we watched several other dishes being served to tables around us and will just have to go back and try them all. hard to get a reservation on Saturdays so plan accordingly.

The lead chef, Ben, has a great rep. within his cooking experience in PDX & on a recent episode of Foodnetwork's Chopped, won & even beat one of his former bosses (who still runs a PDX restaurant). Every time we come here, the food is spectacular, locally sourced and sooo flavorful! Don't miss the mac & cheese or dismiss it as pedestrian (as it is in so many restaurants), it's wonderful. The fried oysters come with slices of carppacio & a little slaw; I could eat these every day! Sit at the bar and have Kevin (who has a stellar mixology background) compose a drink just for you...or go straight to the house specialty which involves rye whiskey (I asked for bourbon instead & am wondering how it would taste with scotch) and an ice cube that has been smoked, so as it melts it imparts this amazing flavor to the drink; obviously there are other components in it as well. This bar portion of a truly great restaurant could be a destination on its own!

The Laurelhurst Market is our favorite restaurant in Portland. This is saying something- we've been to almost all the top places. From amazing cuts of steak to incredible dessert, they are always fresh, local and the best around for lunch and dinner. Be sure to stop by!

A none-too-convenient small store Closed its doors upon sales that were poor And the neighborhood blight Was replaced overnight With a full bar, fine steaks and much more There’s a butcher shop also inside Of repute that is well justified Such cured meats and pates Plus fried chicken Tuesdays And the sandwiches all should be tried The dining room’s simple and small The kitchen takes up the back wall It often gets full But is quite comfortable And not hoity or toity at all O, the wait staff are really so good And their menu so well understood You will get sound advice That is honest, precise And be as happy as ever you could Now the charcuterie and tartare And a couple of drinks from the bar Will set you up well Even make you feel swell If small-plate type fellow you are But the heartier eater must take A selection from wonderful steak (Or a chop or a burger might do Maybe tuna or clams are for you) But whatever comes out on your plate You can bet will be perfect, first-rate Your dinner won’t be a mistake Oh, and dessert is yummy, too.

This restaurant had such wonderful reviews, we expected amazing food. Unfortunately, it was OK, but nothing to brag about. And, certainly if you want to good steak there are many other better steak places in Portland. One of our family had the pork chop and said it was a little tough. We also had three of the steak offerings and no one had anything much to say about anyone of them. The steak was a little tough and didn’t seem to be of the highest quality – amazing. The macaroni and cheese side dish was excellent. A good wine list and a good bar. The service was very nice; it is a little noisy. There are a few parking spots in front of the restaurant and many side streets to park on.

We really like Laurelhurst Market. The service is very good, the restaurant is not too loud and the food is truly amazing. We love the steaks they serve. Flat iron Medium rare melts on you tongue, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts add a healthy note and the spicy mushroom relish makes it even more special. If you like it even more healthy: Laurelhurst Market offers the Catch of the day (yesterday it was Salmon) and the greens with Italian cheese for example were enjoyable too.

My wife and I stopped by Laurelhurst Market for lunch. Our sandwiches were excellent--my corned beef was amazing. Great option in part because it's off the beaten path so it was not as crowded as some downtown options.

We enjoyed a delicious sandwich for lunch on Laurelhurst Market’s enclosed deck. Our order was taken at an outside kiosk and the tables were well spaced. The ‘whole’ sandwich was a little bit small if one were to split it. After dining, be sure to go across the street to Music Millennium, the oldest record store in the Pacific Northwest.

Laurelhurst Market, in the Laurelhurst section of Portland, is both a small meat market and a restaurant. Most of the seating is indoors with a few tables outside. I would suggest this as a place for adults to visit though the menu could be tasty for older children. We were there to celebrate our daughter's birthday; she selected the restaurant as one of her favorite places. The marrow bones are a good appetizer - not something that many people would think of. Our daughter ordered the flat iron steak with morel mushroom butter - she absolutely loved it! I had the smoked and grilled pork chop. I am not usually a fan of "food as art" but all the entrees were well plated with a sufficiently large serving of food. The wine list is fairly large but a bit pricey. This would be my one point of dissatisfaction with the restaurant. I did not inquire about a corkage fee but it might be worthwhile to bring a bottle of your own favorite wine.

My first time to this restaurant and i was very impressed. The dishes ordered were beautifully prepared and presented. The server was knowledgable and helpful.

The first thing you need to know is that they feature a cocktail named after Dock Ellis and it is delicious. Secondly, this is a true meat market of top quality and they know how to prepare their own product. The menu features beef, complete with diagram and numerical coding. But,the secret of any beef house is their pork chop and Laurelhurst is no exception. Maybe the best I have ever eaten, and that does not come lightly. The Harvest Salad was also first rate. My wife enjoyed the wedge salad and the Mac and Cheese and we both appreciated the Bergstrom Pinot Noir at a great price point. make a reservation, they fill up. Despite a full house, the service was outstanding, dancing around the plate like Dock Ellis. One for the books.

Our service was gracious, accommodating and efficient, all at the same time. We were given the table we chose and were happy we arrived early because by the time we left the place was full! I'm not surprised; the food we had was superbly flavorful, innovative and totally delicious. I eat out a lot, and can't remember a meal that was so tasty. We had stuffed mushrooms with an arugula salad, a simply divine and tender beef shoulder, and whiskey pudding for dessert with some cute little pretzel cookies on the side. I didn't realize how much I would enjoy eating here, but I certainly loved it!

The owner of the B&B we were staying at recommended the Laurelhurst Market as a place to take my other half for his birthday which was the first day four stay. Luckily I called to reserve a table as the restaurant was full. Felt like a great atmosphere in there, quite loud but buzzing in a good way. Our server was very attentive and the food was just great. As the restaurant also has a butchers shop there you know you are going to eat quality meat. We had a flat iron steak and the LM burger. With meals were delicious. Finished off the meal with a couple of chocolate tarts- very nicely presented.

The menu was a little foo foo for me. Let me explain I'm not a steak lover and I don't eat beef tongue so I ordered the simplest thing on the menu........a burger which was delicious. The Mac and cheese was good too. My husband had steak it was ok. He picked this place. No I wouldn't go back not because the good was bad rather the food was too much out there for me.

We loved our dinner here. We had the ceasor salad and the Wagyu Culotte steak dinner. The best steak I think I have had. The wine list is wonderful. The best part of the evening was the top notch service. I own a restaurant and really appreciate the professional service of the staff.

This was our first stop while spending the holiday week with the in-laws. My wife and I always reserve dinners at various spots during the week to escape and laurelhurst did not disappoint. We started with the small charcuterie plate which featured two amazing pates. Then, we ordered the flatiron (wife) and the hangar steak. Both were sensational as the chimichurri sauce was amazing on the hangar. We completed the meal with the deconstructed carrot cake which was sensational. The service was outstanding as well as several servers waited on us so we did not feel abandoned. They also label the doggie bag with both date and name of the restaurant which is a nice touch. Don't be dissuaded by the 80s music that they play in the background as the food as phenomenal.

I had wanted to eat here for some time. So, when my mother and friend came to town, I gave it a shot. As mentioned, the steak selection is non traditional. We all tried a different variety: Wagu , the flank steak and the Teres Major. All we good, but the Wagu won for best flavor. This is a very noisy restaurant. Tables are close together. Great for festive time, not so great if you want to have a conversation. Service, we friendly, efficient and timely. This was not the best dining experience in Portland, but was not disappointing.

Stopped in to use the WC and my son got hungry, ordered random bacon sandwich with carrots is what he wanted, they catered to him without thinking twice. This is a great place for a meal and some good music. Is kid and family friendly before 5pm.

Totally delicious food - expensive, but worth it! Parking is difficult though and you need to make a reservation. It's in a tight neighborhood.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening, sitting on the large (covered) patio outside. Pretty average to disappointing experience. Service was nice and well-intended, but very (by the end, painfully) slow. Long waits between courses, servers who didn't check-in to see how we were liking the food, long waits for empty plates to be cleared, etc. No one was rude, but for the price point, service should have been better. Moreover, the food wasn't great either. It was very appealing in concept, but varied in execution from average to poor. Our steak was so salty as to be nearly inedible, and the "medium rare" cook was definitely more "rare." Side dishes were also overly salted, to the point of blocking any of the vegetables' natural flavor. The only winner, really, was a mac and cheese. Cool in concept and an enjoyable space, but marred by inattentive service and marginal food.

Every dish was so flavorful and delicious- starting with the beef tongue to harvest salad to the steelhead trout to the dulce de leche. Our meal was one of the best we've ever had - and we've been to many great restaurants in Alexandria, VA (our home) and Washington, DC. I wish Laurelhurst Market would open a DC location.

Second time here in the last 4 weeks. Love this place. The steaks are delicious and the smoke signal drinks is Amazing. Highly recommend.

As my friends in Portland live around the corner, I/we visit the Laurelhurst market each time I visit Portland. They have an excellent Deli/meat counter where we often find great sausages, meats, poultry, ribs, salamis etc. Have had great sandwiches both dining in and to go. Dined in for dinner recently and it was great. Food was well prepared, very tasty and well spiced with perfect cocktails and a nice selection of wines. Staff in the dining area and at the deli/butcher counter have always been friendly, efficient and welcoming. This place is a great advertisement for the quality of food and service in the local Portland neighborhoods. Will definitely be visiting again next time I am in Portland.

As the name implies this is a combination market (butcher shop) and restaurant. It's located in the Northeast part of Portland in a very nice old part of town (great to visit and just walk around). The predominant food on the menu are a variety of beefs. There were three of us at dinner and we each had a different type but without exception all three were great. They also have a very nice wine list. Try it you won't be disappointed.

I ate here tonight with my family and the food was excellent! The service was outstanding. I had Hanger steak for the first time and it was delicious and my family and I ate here last year. This is a good restaurant for couples or families.

I have been wanting to try this place, and it didn't disappoint, the Hot Pastrami sandwich was awesome, a little skimpy on the kettle chips that go with the sandwich, but not a big thing. I have also heard they have amazing fried chicken., So I purchased 8 pieces for dinner it was very good..

Went last night with friends originally from the Bay Area. Everything was going, mostly, fine until the "$45 dry aged bone-in New York" arrived. Complete disappointment. While prepared as requested it had none of the anticipated quality of an aged steak. Indeed the texture and taste were hardly better than a supermarket steak properly cooked at home. I had the "Steak & Greens" and was equally disappointed, less in the steak, but with the horseradish creamed kale that was eye-watering potent obliterating the steak rather than complimenting it. Service was ok, but many were glibly chatting with each other and seemed perturbed when asked for bread. Plus, when dining at this level, I find it off-putting when wait staff other than "our" server suddenly appear and inquire how things are. My immediate reaction is "who are you?" Overall the experience wasn't worth the price.

Delicious! Great steaks and a favorite of my family's for nice dinners. However, not impressed with the lunch sandwiches.

The steak we had at Laurelhurst weren't just the best of our holiday, nor were they just the best steaks we'd eaten, but genuinely the best meal I've had. I'm less well travelled/ dined than my husband, who has also eaten much more steak than I have, and after a few minutes thinking, he agreed this was the best meal he had had. We ate at Mother's Bistro and Screen Door, which both rate more highly than Laurelhurst Market on trip advisor (at time of writing...), but the food here far surpassed both of these. I have a small appetite but, for possible the first time ever, I ate the whole of my steak (flat iron) and the only reason for not having pudding was to savour the flavour of the steak for longer. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is lively without being too loud. Interestingly, whilst being quite expensive, we had several more expensive but worse meals/ service during our holiday so considering the cost of eating out on the whole, we didn't think it was too unreasonable. Its a good job I don't live in Portland- I'd want to eat here all the time. Oh, almost forgot, Little T Bakery bread available as an appetizer- the best bread we've ever tasted too!

I ordered the fish special, it was prepared perfectly, was "almost" too pretty to eat. Everything was so yummy -- white chocolate lardo, beignets, fried oysters, Louisiana Boudin. We had a fantastic meal, everything was awesome.

The Food and service were impeccable. They have very original and unique cuts. The wagyu and dry aged strip are both great.

We love eating out and trying new places and meat so when we were on vacation in Portland we had to try this restaurant and loved it. We both had amazing meals. I had the Wagu steak it was perfectly cooked and the tartar not cooked at all! Need to go back to try everything on the menu

Was there for lunch. Ordered sandwiches. The meat (Turkey for 1 and Hot Pastrami for the other) was good; the bread mediocre. This location was listed #1 for sandwiches by the Oregonian newspaper (Portland, OR.) For lunch time be prepared to bus and clean your own table. We have heard a lot of good things about this eatery. Bottom line we live across town (14.4mi) and it would not be worth the travel time in congested traffic to revisit.

Spent Saturday night dining at Laurelhurst Market. Outstanding food and service! Be advised, go early! We could not get reservations, but if you arrive at 4:45 before they open, the meat market is open and you can get your name as a walk in. The ambience is casual although you will pay "fine dining" prices because the food is cooked and prepared at that level. They do have hamburgers, seafood, and a chicken option, but most of their menu options lean toward beef .We started the evening with a Charcuterie Plate. I've had better, but it was nice. Each of us tried a unique drink and shared: my favorite was "Selective Memory" with a pineapple base. Two of us ordered the Brandt Flat Iron Steak. It was fabulous! The mushroom sauce added a salty delicious accompaniment to the dish. The meals are simple. You must order side dishes if you want more than the meat and a hint of vegetable. My husband ordered the Smoked & Grilled Pork Chop -- Braised Cabbage & Apple, Warm Mustard Vinaigrette. The pork was delicious; he personally does not enjoy cabbage, so he ordered the wedge salad as a side. Unique to most restaurants, it was topped not only with bacon but with a garnish of tiny fried onion strips. My girlfriend ordered Rosewood Wagyu Teres Major -- Oyster Mushrooms, Roasted Fennel, Dungeness Crab Veloute. It was as tasty as my flat iron, but had a crab sauce instead of the mushroom. You cannot go wrong with either, so pick the sauce that appeals to you! To share together we ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. This was the only disappointing dish. Although I like my vegetables on the crisp side, these could have used a little more time in the pan. We were divided as to who liked the orange marmalade glaze and who did not. We ended the evening with the Salted Chocolate Tart: Let's just say, there was nothing left! Enjoy! The food was wonderful. The service impeccable, I only gave it a four because the ambience is not quite I am used to for fine dining.

My son and fiancé wanted to take us somewhere special during our recent visit to Portland. And in doing so, they hit a home run! It's really cool in that when you walk through the door, the first thing you see is their meat display and sales counter. Somewhat exotic in the selection, but that adds to the charm of the establishment. We had their charcuterie plate as a table appetizer - now I'm not necessarily a fan of pate, but we all thoroughly enjoyed this one. Give it a try! Each of us had something different for a main course and we did the old taste test of each other's. They were all very good. Not sure how to describe the menu - maybe eclectic? Nonetheless, go there and you won't be disappointed!

My wife and I had a wonderful steak dinner. Highly recommend the ribeye! Salads and dessert were excellent as well. A larger beer menu would be nice but this is splitting hairs. We are from out of town, otherwise we would be back. Service was indifferent and a little slow but the atmosphere and food more than made up for it.

Good burger, though not my favorite. I forget now what the fries were like. Good service steakhouse prices,

Like the 2 previous dining month reviews - we agree that the $29 prix fixe menu is awesome. And we can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service too. We arrived just before 6 pm on a Sunday and it was fairly quiet, but it filled up fast. It was a nice touch that the restaurant called us this morning to confirm the reservation we had made online. It did get noisy, but it wasn't too bad. If you take your receipt to the butcher shop you can get 10% off your butcher purchase!

Make a reservation. Locals KNOW this is the place to DINE. The minute you walk in, you know it's not your "average steakhouse". The wine list cannot be surpassed. Our server Michael explained the menu, the cut of meat, the flavor to expect, and how to pair our selections. He was right on with everything. Do NOT skip dessert, (although it would be hard to decide which one was best). One of the best dinners we have ever enjoyed...certainly the best in Portland.

Early family Christmas dinner. Five of us. Orders: the signature burger; two flat iron steaks; a hanger steak; and steak frites. The burger was pronounced a delight. The medium flat iron came out as a perfect medium rare. The medium rare flat iron came out cold and purple in the center. The Brussels sprout side was the biggest hit, crispy and delicious. The fries were a close second. They must use duck or goose fat, as they were some of the best I’ve ever eaten. The hanger and the steak with the fries were both competently cooked and seasoned, and quite tasty, as was the mushroom side. The wine and beer/cider were substantially over-priced, and only garnered a single cider order, which was described as nice. Sorry, don’t recall which it was. We skipped dessert, which didn’t seem all that tempting and the choices were a bit pricey. Besides, we had dessert waiting for us at home. Very busy and the acoustics were terrible and loud. I had great difficulty hearing our server, but then I’m old, so. . .The kitchen was a little slow, but the place was pretty full. Our food did come out reasonably all together. The table service was competent. Overall, a good place for a splurge.

The market was lovely and the service and presentation were top notch, but I wasn't thrilled with the food I got. My friend ordered the Charcuterie Board, and there just wasn't anything on it I actually like, other than the bread. I got Steak Frites, and my steak was a little tough. We ordered the cauliflower, and I just didn't care for the taste. All in all, the food was very good, just not my taste.

Overall, the meal and service was great! We started with beef tartar, fried cauliflower, and artichoke for appetizers. Dinner was various cuts of steak with sides of fries, salads, oyster aioli and vegetables. My medium steak was a little dry on the ends. Next time I will go "rare" because everyone else loved their's. The chocolate tort dessert was good. The dulce con leche plated with coconuts, roasted strawberries, and passion fruit sauce was fabulous! The binets were disappointingly overcomed and dry.

This place has great cuts of meat and great salads. You can eat incredibly healthy or indulge if you want. I recommend this place to everyone who visits Portland!

This is not the classic steakhouse ambience with well-dressed waiters serving marbled chunks of meat in hushed tones. This is a lively and loud local restaurant with good meals in an informal setting. But don't expect discount prices: it still is a steak house We started with the interesting appetizer combination of fried oysters and beef carpaccio. Doesn't work that well because the saltiness of the oysters overwhelms the delicate flavors of the beef. A cocoa and chicory rubbed hanger steak cooked medium rare was a much more successful combination. Crispy skin duck consisting of a breast and wing portion was also too salty for our taste. As were the fried potatoes and caramelized onions. A mizuna and radicchio salad was delicious. A great wine list makes Laurelhurst Market a local favorite.

We had a dinner during our vacations at Laurelhurst market .we liked the design and settings, great food . I recommend the steak with French fries included for 36 usd. Very fair price. I had a lovely Pinot noir by the glass

The FOH staff was able to squeeze our party of four in on a busy Friday night. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Food was amazing. Highly recommend when visiting Portland.

We made reservations but were late as it took us longer to get ourselves together after being out all day at the Rose Garden on a 90 degree today. They sat us anyway at a different concept. I loved the idea, butcher in the front, restaurant in the back. The staff were very friendly and service was great. My wife had the jealous monk and I had a migration IPA. It was a little warm in there. We started with the bone marrow which was great, For dinner, I had the flatiron steak and my wife had the fish special which was oregon albacore tuna, We enjoyed our dinner. They also have a sandwich counter for lunch, which I imagine would be good as well,

Interesting concept: butcher shop by day, fine dining by night. We had never been to (or even heard of) Laurelhurst Market, but my husband received a gift card from his employer and, after reading several glowing reviews, we decided to make reservations for our anniversary dinner. My husband ordered the albacore tuna and it was amazing (yes, he gave me a bite). I ordered the pork chop and it was perfectly cooked and plated. The service was exceptional -- friendly, helpful, and made us feel right at home. Expect to pay accordingly, but worth it for a special night out.

After a lot of research into the “best place to eat steak” in Portland, we visited Laurelhurst Market for dinner. The space is on the smaller side when compared to other steakhouses in town, and the ambience more like a cafe than a formal restaurant. The quality of food and the friendly service more than make up for that. We had Marrow Bones, and Roasted Pork Cheeks for appetizers, both highly recommended. The rib-eye for dinner was perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful, the accompanying avocado purée and “cowboy candy”-candied jalapeños elevated the dish, if that could be possible. If you want vegetables, you will have to order them on the side. We also had a pork chop entree that was gigantic, with lots of flavor. Chocolate hazelnut tart was just right at the end, rich and decadent. It was an amazing meal and for the price, a great value compared to big names around town. We will definitely be back, and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy a great steak without breaking the bank.

I highly recommend the Steak Tartar and the Ribeye. However, we are foodies and started with the Fois Gras. It's a torchon (pate') and not seared. I should have known not to order fois when I discovered they have absolutely no Sauternes (or any botrytised late harvest) wine on their list. We tried their Muscat which was not that great a match. Anyway, the torchon was about the size of a 50 cent piece and had no flavor at all. Or if it did, it was totally overpowered by a rhubarb relish which was served about 4 grams for each gram of torchon. A ripoff at $4 but they charged me $14.

I had not been to Laurelhurst in several years. i will not wait nearly so long again. I don't know that I have to say much about the meat. It is of the highest quality, seasoned oh so lightly with flake salt dn otherwise letting cow and flame speak for themselves. But what blew us away were the vegetables. We had the crispy maitakes, which were way more than just fried mushrooms. Then we had the gorgeous burrata salad with blanched asparagus, snap peas and favas. It was a revelation, so clean , so fresh. With our steak, we got the braised leaks, topped with hollandaise and trout row. Salty, briny, creamy, citrus and allium all at once, another magic dish. We were extremely satisfied, ad the prices are even reasonable for a steakhouse. Check it out!

We ate dinner here years ago when it first opened and was not impressed. However, we wanted to walk for a quick dinner and we were craving hamburgers so thought we would give it another try. So glad we did! IT IS THE BEST HAMBURGER IN PORTLAND! The bun, the burger, the fries....all perfection. We also ordered Brussel sprouts and cauliflower sides. We have had Brussel sprouts prepared a number of different ways and always enjoyed them. We did not like their version. There was a very funny, unpleasant, unidentifiable taste. We won't order them again. The exact opposite was true for the cauliflower. It was excellent. The service was professional and friendly. It's just too bad they do not have hamburgers on their daily lunch menu!

Great vibe, steaks, service, and yes, they have seafood too. Enjoyed our meals and the evening! Will go again!

Steak, steak & more! Flat Irons & ribeye were amazing and I am tough to impress as a native Nebraska girl! The sides are all separate but large enough to share. The combinations were unexpectedly delicious & our server was attentive. As a combo butcher shop/restaurant I was a bit concerned about atmosphere but it was especially pleasant. Go and enjoy!

Laurelhurst Market and Restaurant is the current buzz in Portland, OR. It's a great place for outstanding service and good food. The menu is primarily beef and pork with a couple of fish offerings depending on the market. I enjoyed my meal but probably would have been wild about it if I were a more serious meat lover. Someone in my party had the pork chop served with "preserved lemons" in a tasty sauce. I had a bite and it was truly the best pork chop ever. The restaurant is pricey but for a special evening or for those for whom price cost is not a concern, and for those serious meat lovers, it's a must in Portland. While you are in the neighborhood, you might enjoy the lovely homes in the Laurelhurst neighborhood. Lovely homes and beautiful gardens.

Went here with coworkers recently for lunch. You order at the counter and then they call your name up. Be aware they aren’t very loud when doing so, so you must pay attention. The sandwiches ordered were the pastrami, steak melt, Italian and the turkey and bacon. I would rank them pastrami, Italian, steak melt and turkey bacon last. The reason for that mainly is the bread it is served on. The other were on sub bread or ciabatta and the turkey bacon was traditional sandwich sliced bread, which I don’t care for as much. I would also add that a full size sandwich is the way to go for an average person. The half size in my opinion would not be enough, unless I was just not very hungry. We also saw people ordering salads which looked delicious and piled high with meat. Overall this place was a win and we would definitely come back.

Great pastrami sandwich. Awesome atmosphere. Plan to go back for dinner. House cured meats and charcuterie look delicious and the service was great.

I stayed in that neighborhood this year, and it was right next door so we walked over for some sandwiches. The meat case was filled with awesome looking cuts of meat etc. The guy who served us never looked up as we stood there waiting to order sandwiches. My husband finally asked if we could get some sandwiches "sure" he stated still not looking at us. We ordered, the sandwiches were good, but the service the worst I've ever seen.

DO NOT eat here unless you consider flies a delicacy as they prance across your food. I went last night with my daughter for my birthday and as soon as the food landed on the table so did the flies. We spent half our meal swatting at them, but eventually I have up because I just can’t make myself eat food that has been shared with a fly that probably walked across something pretty disgusting earlier. The waitress seemed annoyed that I wasn’t excited about my experience and simply said she would take the food away. I went away hungry on my way to a concert and paid for an expensive meal that I couldn’t eat. The manager’s response was “it happens, sorry you weren’t satisfied”. That’s it, no offer of help. I guess they should just add steak with a side of flies to their menu, because that’s what you’re going to pay for. Disgusting food and behavior.

My friend brought us to one of his favorite restaurant. True to his recommendation, the steak, seafood and we brought our own wine in which they did not charge us a corkage fee. I would recommend LM to all.

Wow! I never thought I'd have a steak as good as my dads! This place is sooo good. Service was excellent. She convinced us to try the charcuterie small plate. All was delicious. I had the steak bavette with greens. Cooked perfectly. Dessert was delicious as well. Expensive but worth the price.

On a very crowded evening we stopped in for a light dinner and were not disappointed. Good food and very good service. Recommended!

1) all food was literally a perfect bite - take your time and eat a little bit of everything on your plate with each bite - perfect blend of flavors and textures 2) listen to your server - they understand the menu and all of us listened to their recommendations - no one was disappointed at all - we were all elated with the choices 3) the atmosphere is on pointe - you can hear a conversation with no difficulty - while preserving the butcher shop feel - and look. 4) a must visit - just take your time and enjoy..... Our guests had wine by the glass - they enjoyed the recommendations and - again - listen to the servers. They take great pride in what they do and want your experience to be memorable. Special kudos to Mike, our trail guide to this experience. BTW - not for the meat hater.

It is simply one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Our group of three did not have a reservation on a Thursday night. So we ended up sitting in the bar area. And ordered our meals from there. The atmosphere is casual with a rustic barn/garage feel. I started with the Louisiana Boudin appetizer. It had a wonderful smoky undertone and served with a picked shrimp relish. They cooked a rare steak to meat perfection for my main entree. I did have the frites with my steak. They were tasty also but maybe a little heavy on the salt. I was able to finish off with a Dulce de Leche Semifredo. I not a fan of chocolate, so this was a great option. It was mind-blowing. I will visit this restaurant again when I am in the Portland area. It is a must stop.

Avery nice restaurant, need reservation ,it’s a butcher place ,the food is heavenly delicious, specially LM RIBEYE,the service is attentive.a bit expensive.

Went here for a special dinner after looking for a local, non-chain steakhouse. Had burrata cheese appetizer that was very tasty and a nice mix of flavors. My girlfriend and I both ordered steaks cooked medium. Mine was more medium rare but closer to medium. The flavor of my tri-tip was excellent. Hers was close to rare, which the waitress did take back to warm up but the taste just wasn’t right. This is the first meal I’ve seen her send back. The staff graciously took her steak off the bill. Had Mac-n-cheese side that was creamy with perfectly cooked noodles. Had beignets with a chocolate/coffee sauce that were warm and fluffy.

We went during the Portland Dining month so I went with the 3 course meal which included arancini balls as a tasty appetizer, slow roasted beef brisket and panna cotta with candied fennel for dessert. The ambiance was alright although I prefer cushioned seats for comfort and the service was adequate. We also decided to order the small charcuterie board which had a selection of their house cured meats and a little taste of their pickled veggies. The board wasn't terribly impressive, the bites were small and it included 2 pates which I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew it included that. Loved the arancini and the panna cotta and lthough the beef brisket had a nice tender texture, the flavor and the juice wasn't excellent in my opinion. But this was after I tried my husband's Waygu teres major steak which had a nice sear on the outside and a tasty crab veloute sauce... In addition to the panna cotta we finished with the dulce de leche cheesecake and left feeling pretty good. We got a couple of sausages to go and they made for a tasty lunch the next day. (We learned to boil them first from a class at Old Salt then sear and they turned out pretty good.) Their lunch sandwiches looked very good and we will definitely be back for lunch someday.

Great service and atmosphere, overpriced food. My $39 ribeye was only ok and came with nothing. The edge salad was also mediocre.

We really enjoyed this find in one of the many walkable neighborhoods of Portland. They had the large windows open and we sat by them and watched the busy restaurant and the people within.

Even though this was rated Portland's best steakhouse on oregonelive.com, I might have to disagree. It really is not a steakhouse in the traditional sense (in my opinion), but they do serve (and sell in their market) plenty of beef. We started off with the Charcuterie Plate as an appetizer. The meats are served in pate' form and when we ordered it, the selections were "Country," Duck, Venison, and Beef Heart. They were all good and the mustard and pickled onion and carrot help add to the flavor profiles just like they're supposed to. For dinner, I had the Rib-eye and my dining partner had the special that was Shrimp poached in beef fat with a steak as the base; he loved it. Our sides were the Roasted Carrots (very good) and the best Macaroni and Cheese (dusted with Potato Chip Crust) that we have had at a restaurant. I say give it a try. We were pleased with the service and the meal, but do not expect your traditional steakhouse when you visit.

Awesome place to have a wonderful steak. We tried the beef tartare, too - it was delicious. Tasty wine and other drinks

The food was wonderful. Creative dishes with the heirloom tomatoes paired with peaches, the Little T's bread with a wonderful cheese and lemon butter, the oysters, the crab and the mac and cheese with potato chip topping. Yum was it ever good!

This is a fantastic meat eating experience! I had the ribeye steak and it was the tenderest, best tasting steak that I've had in ages. My wife had the special which was Alaskan halibut and she said it was the best meal that she has ever had! The service was very good, helpful and attentive. The only negative is that the restaurant has concrete floors, wood, metal & glass walls and open ceiling. This makes for a noisy environment if it is crowded &/or the patrons are boisterous.

We went there for dinner last night after seeing the great reviews on Yelp! As we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by the most arrogant host we have encountered ever any where. We were basically told to go find a table on the patio our selfs, we walked through the restaurant on the patio and walked out with disgust. Went to real nice place called Stammitsch instead.

Highly recommended, we anticipated a nice evening. Even the Uber driver said it is one of his favorite places. Location is a bit far from downtown in a lovely residential neighborhood. Ordered the rib steak and the chicken. Both were well prepared. Good selection of wine which we also enjoyed. Competent attentive service.

I went with three friends, and everyone loved it. The steaks are well seasoned and cooked. The sides are also excellent. There is a butcher shop attached which offers a wide variety of meats. If you dine at the restaurant, you also can get 10% off at the butcher shop.

So this was my fourth try at this neighborhood restaurant. I'd been disappointed before, but I do like to give restaurants within a stone's throw of my house a few tries. The bread with ricotta was interesting and good. The seafood cocktail appetizer was good, if not memorable. The steak -- and this is a steakhouse -- was where we met trouble. We split the NY steak, $43. It was good, nice quality, decent preparation, but it was not, as requested, medium rare. I'd say medium. I gently pointed this out. The waiter deferred the issue to another waiter, who deferred it to the chef, who agreed with me. This led us to the real test -- how would the restaurant handle the matter? I hadn't been mad, or really complained or caused a fuss. But our dinner, our expensive dinner, was clearly a disappointment. What would they do? The answer? Free dessert. I declined, my husband accepted. That was their answer to a $43 steak that was (and the chef agreed) overcooked, at a steakhouse. I find that unacceptable. I'll try it again in a few years and hope for better. Problems in restaurants are inevitable. How the establishment chooses to address them tells you a lot about the place. They told me that they didn't much care about my experience, which I get -- they're packed, but likely not with people that really care about food or service. Fonda Rosa down the street does an exceptional steak, and they do care.

I'm not sure why this restaurant is rated #84 in Portland because I think it should be near the top 10 (and I've been to most). The food was spectacular (I had the "teres major" cut with marrow bone); perfectly prepared. The service was also very good (attentive but not too much so). We were greeted at the door and were given a quiet table. Although the breadth of the menu isn't huge, it is well focused on meats (and some seafood). The deserts were also excellent.

We had a great meal, quality food which was reflected in the price, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great meal!

A Celebratory dinner For Spouse getting a new job couldn't have gone any better. Everything that came out of the kitchen and bar was perfect. Service was spot on, not hovering and not blase. If you visit PDX, this is where you set the bar and judge everywhere else.

Dinner for four on a Sunday evening. Outside, great atmosphere, great service, great food! This is a cool restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, a nice buzz to it, people around, having a good time. This is another impressive Portland restaurant that puts out great meals. Laurelhurst also doubles as butcher shop! They have a great selection of steaks, some seafood, and a couple of other proteins. The details - the food we had was very, very good. Delicious. Prepared by a chef's staff that knows what they are doing. Each course from the appetizers to salads to the entrees were incredibly good. We had a flank steak, flat iron, and a Teres Major, all of which were seasoned and cooked very well. Our waiter knew a lot about each cut of steak, and guided us accurately on each cut, and its specific attributes. The other staff were equally knowledgeable, engaging, friendly, genuinely concerned about our meals. Plus plus effort on their part. Dinner here was not inexpensive. Four of us, including a very good bottle of Malbec, including appetizers and cocktails was about $320. The entrees were roughly $25 - $30 each. Would I go back to the Laurelhurst Market? You bet. Time and time and time again.

Went with a party of five. Needed to make reservations even on a Monday. Charcuterie board was wonderful: chicken liver pate, venison pate, bratwurst pate and country pate. Also three different kinds of sliced meats. Delicious. Crab salad and rap salad tasty. The smoked and grilled pork chop was incredibly tender and a large portion. Steaks and burgers also very good. Be sure to order the beignets for dessert -- killer.

Excellent meat, great kids menu, good selection of wines, very friendly service. The only regret is that French fries are too salted.

We have enjoyed a dinner here after nights at mountains. Clam was wonderful with different type of soup. Size portion was not too big, Dessert was stylish and interested in trying.

Prompt seating at reservation time. Seated and informed of evening specials. Reasonable bar, wine list. Fair beer list. Had the beef tartare and it was good. Steaks done as requested. Overall a good place. A bit noisy but not uncomfortable. A good place that I will go back to.

Best restaurant in Portland! Amazing food, simple ambiance, relaxed atmosphere. Make sure to try the onion rings! They are divine!

If you're in Portland, The Laurelhurst Market is a place you'll want to try! The steaks there are amazing and the service is too. The prices are a little spendy and the items are ala carte, but it's really worth it! The flat iron steak that I had was melt in your mouth delicious and mac and cheese with potato chip topping was out of this world!! You really should treat yourself to dinner at the Laurelhurst Market!!

Went here on Tuesday for the Fried Chicken. You can order by the pound. I ordered 4 pieces at the counter to go and all I can say is it is wonderful. They put honey in the crust and the chicken is heavenly. They also offer deli sandwiches and they have their own butcher shop with meats besides the restaurant. I highly recommend Fried Chicken Tuesday. Think of is as a deep fried anti-depressant! It might be tough on your arteries, but it will certainly cheer you up out of a deep depression.

This was our 4th time to Laurelhurst Market and I felt compelled to review it because it has never disappointed us. Portland is a big foodie city and keeping up with all the new "highly reviewed" venues can be a daunting job. Unfortunately it is also frequently a letdown. Laurelhurst Market has a proven formula of fine food, excellent service and a dining space that provides a pleasant vibe. Whether your taste runs to steak or seafood LM will be a very satisfying experience. Last nights dinner included mussels with bacon, spinach and oregano in a broth that had us requesting more bread so as not to leave any behind. Steak frites with an optional marrow bone that just elevated it to another level of richness. Wagyu cullotte with a Thai hazelnut butter that brought new and welcome twists of flavor. Combine all this with their well crafted cocktails, desserts and attentive service and you have what I consider a fine dining experience should be.

It is a place to eat hearty and to buy what looked like, beautiful meat, sausages and more (I so wish we had been going home. I would have tried a lot of what was in the deli case). This is a meat lovers paradise and shellfish too. It is not inexpensive since to round out a meal (with the generous main) we each added a side and shared (there was a selection of 10 interesting choices. And we had to start with something - a pickle plate that really set off the appetite The one problem. This was a Saturday night and the dining room is high ceilings and hard walls. Even though we were against a wall, we had to shout across the smallish table to be heard. That kept us focused on the food but it would have been so much nicer if we could have readily shared our comments and fun conversation.

We had a friend visiting from Southern California and she asked for a place that has great food and a great Portland vibe! Laurelhurst Market! Nestled into a great early 1900s neighborhood of Portland. Started with an amazing gin-martini paired with a charcuterie plater. Fabulous. I had the steak, cooked to perfection. Coupled with a great wine selection. Everyone raved about their food. Service was spot on. Its on the moderate to higher end for price point. Delicious meal. Highly recommend!

The butchershop is right next to or actual inside the restaurant. Unique? I think so. We were craving for steak and were told this was the best place for it. We went and tried it. Ordered an appetizer with paté’s to share. Nice, see picture, and tasteful. The steak with greens was perfectly cooked. Nothing to complain you’d think, but I’m a big eater and I would have enjoyed a bigger portion. Still good food!

Had meat and cheese sandwich that was so tasty souce was different and tasty. Bread was fresh crisp. Really one of the best sandwich’s I have had in a long time.

Split a pastrami sandwhich, which was enough for me. Taste was great. Service was good. Sat outside (most seats are for 2 but there is at least 1 table for four). Nice sitting outside in June. Price very fair by Portland standards.

We and another couple are here on a Saturday nite and we were very surprised at the whole experience. The restaurant is open with tables crammed pretty close so don't expect an intimate setting. There are seats outside and it's attached to a meat/butcher shop. The menu is heavy on steak but it's confusing with "entrees" meaning "heavy" garnish while the ala carte was "light" garnish...very confusing and our server said many customers think so too (hint: fix the menu). We had the rib eye which was cooked perfectly and sides of fries and onion rings. The rings were spectacular and the fries were, well, fries. The wine offering was sparse but we brought our own bottle. The server, "Sasha" was delightful and very efficient and friendly. We will be back!

The food was average, the service was slow and they herded people in and out like cattle. It was way overpriced and outside of it's eclectic atmosphere I failed to find the reason for the accolades.

The beef shoulder we has was so tender it started to fall apart when I touched it with a fork. The fennel flan was amazing.

I have given this place two chances. First shortly after it opened and again more recently. I eat meat. I like meat. But sine meat is so heavy I want something light and bright to compliment the meat dish. I went with a large group so I got to taste a lot of different things. I was completely underwhelmed by the dishes that accompanied the meat dishes (carrots, potatoes and onion rings that did not stand out, though the caramelized brusell sprouts were tasty). Limited salad selections (really, you offer a wedge salad - Boring!) The atmosphere was great, the cocktails were excellent, and the service was very good. But unless you REALLY like meat, you will not find much to make it worth the cost.

We went during Portland's "dining month" for a special fixed price menu, and ordered some additional appetizers and desserts. The service was outstanding. Everyone was great, and attentive. However, maybe because of the special dining package, we felt our portions were a little small, and the "denver steak" was overcooked. It was supposed to be medium (we didn't get a choice of how it was cooked so couldn't order medium/rare like we usually do), but it seemed very well done. The good items on the menu were the grilled asparagus, and the deviled eggs. And the sauce that came with the steak was great (a garlic aoli?). Also, the beignets and the chocolate panna cotta for dessert were excellent. The orange stuff that came with the panna cotta we didn't like, nor the salad that came before the steak (with a citrus dressing that just didn't suite our tastes. Other people loved it). Others in our group raved about the grilled brussel sprouts, but since we've never like brussel sprouts, it didn't win us over. It wasn't bad, but not enough for us to get it again. We also had their side of mushrooms which were good, but so much that we couldn't finish the bowl. We would rather have had more esparagus than the large bowl of mushrooms! We kept seeing people ordering from the regular menu receiving large portions, and think if we had tried something off their regular menu it would have been better. As it was, with the special dining package portions, if we hadn't ordered extra food, we would have left hungry. As a whole it was OK, especially for the discounted price, but we doubt we'll go back.

Follow your heart and go for it. Enjoy the steak, indulge in dessert, revel in the cocktails. I skipped the sides. Make a reservation.

amazing bartenders and local red wine with great steaks. Lots of people with tattoos. Because it’s Portland....

So I am not doing lunch here with a vegetarian. which limits me who to go with. The have a small amount of parking, they have a meat/deli counter and a cafe style restaurant. The cafe opens way after the deli. Good food and the bread is great. But charcuterie is salty and although tasty, go easy. Service is great, laid back and friendly and they know their stuff.

Excellent quality of meats, locally produce i think. Tartar was very good as the Ribeye and NY on the bone. Teasonable prices for the quality and good service.

We went for Portland Dining Month and were not disappointed. The service was very good and the setting, though noisy, is warm and rustic. The foie gras appetizer was delicious, definitely a repeater with the fig jam. The sausage stuffed crimini mushroom appetizer was our favorite part of the meal. The main dish, braised beef shoulder was good but not out of this world. The chocolate whiskey pudding for dessert was tasty and the cookies that accompanied it were warm. Overall, the meal, service and setting are worth a visit.

My wife and I visited on Valentine's Day. The food was amazing. The service was great. We had reservations at 7 and we were seated by 7:02. Drinks were fun too. We'll be back again!

Why the difference? Go to their website and look at the menu and peruse the beef choices. Now, this is a very popular Portland high-end restaurant, large, busy and bustling with a mostly younger (30's - 40's maybe) clientele. Is part of a "restaurant group" so they're in the business of making money - which translates into a very efficient working machine. I arrived 15 minutes early for a res, and waited exactly 15 minutes in a completely full restaurant for my table to open. That's clockwork! And the service is prompt but not rushed, and professional (no "are ya still workin' on that" crap from gum-chewing wait staff). But back to the steak issue. I'm a New Yorker used to Peter Luger and Gallaghers, etc. Walk in and order a chunk of beef cut and cooked to order. I ordered the $46 "bone-in New York strip" (in other words a t-bone without the loin). It came cooked as ordered - but pre-sliced and much too thin for a steakhouse offering (a mere 1" cut. It had a some kind of sauce accompanying it that made it more "special". I get it, the place is run like a machine and that steak is cooked exactly X minutes per side and needs to be uniform to fit the model. No mashed potatoes here - instead something "braised" with some kinda sauce. Overall, great service, great tasting food, and very pricey for the actual steak you get. I'd go here again for sure because it's a very casual high end place (not like the typical Portland precious in-spot) with many choices other than steak. But I'd stick with the Ringside for STEAK if that's what you're in the mood for.

One steak is enough for two people, with side dishes. In civilized fashion, the meat is served sliced, so it's easy to share. Appetizers were good (Caesar salad was overdressed). We recommend adding the seared foie gras to any steak, and the horseradish sauce was among the best we have ever had (not too hot). Desserts are fine. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, the music at perfect volume to enjoy without interfering with conversation. We eat steak rarely but would return here.

Whenever I come from Salem to Portland for a visit with my daughter - this is our number one choice to share a meal and conversation!! The food is absolutely the best! Love the specials but also the tried and true staples on their menu!! On the way out - the butcher shop is open for a meat purchase to enjoy the next day!

Our host at the B&B told us about this place when we were in Portland before, but we couldn't get in that evening. This time we made reservations before arriving. My wife had steak and I had salmon. We both got dessert. From start the finish the meal was very enjoyable. We would go back.

Being from the Midwest, I'm always on the lookout for a good steak in Portland (and often disappointed). I had seen many rave reviews of Laurelhurst Market steaks so I was excited to try it out. Walking in, you're first met by a butcher case of delicious looking, thick raw cuts of steak, ready for the grill. Once you're seated and review the menu, you see unique appetizers, sides, and salads. Great for the adventurous, but I just want a good steak and baked potato. Where's the Filet Mignon? T-bone? Porterhouse? or any common cut without avocado puree, dried chili emulsion, or charred green onion sauce? The steak I had was delicious, (once I got to it) but I couldn't help wondering how much of the price was attributed to the "garnishes" I didn't want or the side that automatically comes with the entree. They had sides I would have preferred, for an additional cost, but $7 for fries? $8 for roasted cauliflower? And no baked potato even offered? Lastly, we had the Dulce de Leche Semifreddo for dessert. One of the best desserts I've ever eaten. The atmosphere was busy, loud, crowded. I prefer the opposite for this type of meal. However, the service was impeccable and we never felt rushed despite the line of diners waiting for a table. All in all, depends on your "taste". If this is what you want, the food is great. If not, stick to somewhere with more basic options.

The best find in Portland. I visited with my girlfriend and we are big into nutrition, and big into farm to table, so we spent a good amount of time researching. Thank goodness we found and chose Laurelhurst. We celebrated our anniversary there as it was our only night in Portland, and it was the best choice. The entire staff was pleasant, welcoming, and made our anniversary special. We both ordered the steak with a fresh salad... and they even brought us out a 'Happy Anniversary' package of shoulder bacon from the butcher, as we do not drink champagne (which they offered at the beginning of our dining experience). Further, when you are done enjoying your incredible meal, you are given 10% off at the butcher, to which we took them up on... twice. Upon leaving, I ordered another half pound of shoulder bacon while we strolled around Laurelhurst. On our turn back, I stopped in again to have the butcher recommend duck breast, and a few other fine tasting meats, and we had that as a late-night snack/breakfast the next morning. Thank you so much for the great time, Laurelhurst Market. We will be back!

We had the charcuterie plate and steak tartar for appetizers and both were delicious. I had the steak frites which I was disappointed with. The steak was tough and just ok and the fries were overdone. My husband had the pork dinner and it was really good. It is kind of hard to rate this restaurant accurately. The service was impeccable so it bumped them from a 3 to a 4. The appetizers were a 5 but my meal was a 3 maybe.

I visited friends in Portland last week and they suggested we go to the Laurelhurst Market for dinner. Great suggestion! Good atmosphere, trendy and busy. But not too busy. Just the right amount of ambience. The best part was the food. It was outstanding. I had the best smoked pork I've ever had and I order that all the time if it's on a menu. I love smoked meats and this dish was superb. My friends both had steak and they were equally delicious. The restaurant is east of downtown in a nice neighborhood with up and coming neighborhoods nearby. I would definitely make it a point to try this place if you're on that side of town.

We had a similarly positive experience to others at this bustling, fashionable steakhouse attached to butcher's shop. Staff were impressively knowledgeable about the various cuts on offer and our choices were cooked to perfection. Only criticism was an overly long wait of 45 mins for entrees: a pricey bottle of Oregon wine specifically chosen to complement the main had been glugged before tardy steaks showed up.
Best steakhouse I got to experienced
We had dinner at Laurehurst for my husband 30th birthday and the staff was super attentive. Candles on the desserts and a pâté to take home on the house as a gift. The meat was incredible quality and our waitress very knowledgeable. She made us great suggestions. We will definitely go there again.
