This is the second time I've been to Lavash. Both times I went there early in the evening (about 5:30 to 6pm) without a reservation. However, they do encourage you to have a reservation. They are a little bit crazy about it. The food is very good and they are small. I recommend getting one of the dinners for two. It's more than enough food for two people. In fact, you could probably get away with a dinner for two if you also got an appetizer or an extra side. The portions are large. The chicken is very delicious. Our lamb chops were very well seasoned, but a little dry. They were perfect on my last visit. We tried the salmon this evening and it's also delicious, but I like the chicken better. If you want a glass of wine, you have to go with the house wine.

In short excellent: for starter we ordered Tadeig for appetizer; this is a crispy rice delicacy that everyone fights for, in a normal Iranian family. We added eggplant stew on top which makes it tender enough so as not to break your teeth. It was perfect, not salty or oily, it was made to the royal standard for less $10, salute to the chef. Main course: we both ordered the Joujeh, a traditional chicken kabob with Persian style rice which not sticky and had Safron on it, for $3 extra we had barberries added to the rice. I suggest planning ahead, the manger accommodate us by calling no-shows/late arrivals. The ambient was clean, filled with interesting art. Service was top notch, very friendly. I review only because it was a great experience and a place in need of recognition. was an excellent meal, reason why I reviewed it. Mercie Lavash.

We enjoyed a late lunch and each of us selected a "Jeweled Rice" dish. Lovely food in a small, intimate setting. There are many restaurants to select in San Francisco. This one is worth a visit. Afterwards, or before, stroll down the street to the SF Women's Art Gallery. This is an unpretentious neighbourhood with delightful shops.

One of the best Persian restaurants in the city of San Francisco this family owned gem is ideal for a romantic dinner or special event definitely a not to miss in the Inner Sunset District.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in the entire world. the food is incredible. So delicious and beautiful. The staff and family who owns it are always so friendly and lovely. It has a romantic and casual ambiance. It's perfect. you almost feel sad when your meal is coming to an end. I guarantee that i f you come here once you'll be back before long.

This is a small restaurant, so you will want to be sure to make reservations. When we walked in, there was no room--only an empty table held for a reservation. The manager quickly called the party holding the table and worked it out so we could sit down immediately at the table. Wow, how often does a restaurant do that! Once seated we were given quick and courteous service. The food was excellent, too!

My husband and I were only in San Fran for two days and the travel agent had booked us into a mega hyped restaurant that we hated so we were counting on Lavash to give us the dining experience we hoped for. Lavash did not disappoint. There were four of us and the portions were generous, delicious and perfectly seasoned. The yogurt/cucumber starter was so creamy and stand up spoon thick we all heaped it onto our plates with enthusiasm. None of us ever order dessert but the mains and appies were so good we had to break down and try the baklava. Instead of being heavy and cloying and dripping, it was like a smooth and the perfect end to a wonderful meal and evening. To top it off, the prices were not outrageous and the service warm as well as courteous. We would go back and recommend it.

The food is wonderful, lived the appetizer of lavash bread with briny cheese, walnuts, herbs and grapes. Grilled meats and vegetables are to die for. Friendly service, nice decor. Parking is the only problem.

Everything was great , but not hot ... Very crowded Friday night before Halloween. Donar kabob was yummy , but better if hot ... Ghormeh sabzi over tadig was delish as well as the yoghurt, will return ...

There's the average restaurant that everyone goes too and then there's Lavash in the sunset. As simple as just great food, and they want you to be happy.

We did not get as far a s desert, but the apps and dinner were yummy. Persian cuisine with wonderful flavors. 4 of us for dinner and I will not be able to tell you about the price as my friends would not share the bill, got like friends like that.......anyway, a mid week night it was still busy, so you may consider making a reservation if you really want to try it as the place is cosy with a limited space. But it is well worth it.

Extremely fresh starter salad (tomato, cucumber, goat cheese with basil, mint and cilantro). Use lots of sumac. Moist chicken, great beef/lamb kabobs and lamb chops. Saffron Rice was excellent.

Very cozy, great food. The free bites consist of lavash bread feta cheese some tomatoes and greens. Wine was excellent

Outstanding Persian restaurant! We loved everything we have tried there and plan to go back next visit to San Francisco to try more dishes from their large menu! Service was excellent and the wine list was not over the top expensive like some leading restaurants. We tried all the Persian restaurants in San Francisco and by far this was the best.

My husband got one of the soups and I got one of the jeweled rice dishes. We both were very impressed. I loved the mint tea, also, and the rock candy it came with. The waiter was friendly and attentive.

This weekend was our 4th trip to Lavash, and we continue to enjoy the delicious flavors and choices at this fine Persian restaurant. The Fesenjan (stew in pomegranate sauce) was superb, and the kababs joojeh and koobideh were tender, moist and great. The faloodeh for dessert (frozen noodles with rose water and lime) is absolutely unique to Persian fare, and shouldn't be missed. The restaurant is quite small, so reservations are highly recommended on weekends or holidays.

Lavash isn't much to look at from the outside. Even inside it's nice in a very cosy, homey kind of way (which I like). But the food is absolutely fantastic. I've heard that some Persians say it's the best Persian food outside of Iran, and that's easy to believe. The flavors are fresh, complex, and mouth watering. We had two of their signiture dishes, the Zereshk Polo and the Adas Polo and we can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. The service was fast and couldn't have been more friendly.

I wish I lived in San Francisco instead of 3 hours away just to visit Lavash weekly! We had our meal family style so we could experience more easily the Zereshk Polo - Jeweled rice with chicken, barberries, raisins, turmeric and saffron. Mmmm. A combo of Shishlik; lamb chops seasoned so delectably I wished we had ordered just those. And Koobideh; ground lamb and beef on a skewer. They were okay but nothing like the lamb chops! They brought us a sample of the house Goodh a yogurt drink, after I heard a customer say he was addicted to it. Try it. Different. We also had an eggplant dish in a tomato base sauce. We had the Bastani and Faloodeh for dessert. Turkish Coffee to stay awake on the drive home. So good! Overall it was an amazing meal. The memory lingers.

The food was great. Had chicken in a sweet and sour pomegranate sauce. Eggplant appetizer. Rosewater gellato. Just outstanding. We didn't have a reservation, but they do recommend. Enjoy.

I am from Southern Cal where we have superior quality Persian restaurants. Lavash restaurant's food quality and service is mediocre at best.

I located Lavash after searching for lunch places near the deYoung Museum. What a great find! The food was delicious and fresh. We started with Kashk-e Bademjan (eggplant spread), Dolma and Sabzi Panir (fresh herbs, feta cheese, vegetables, walnuts with Lavash bread). All of them were terrific but the Kashk-e Bademjan really stood out. For entrees, two of us got kebabs (really tasty meat) and I got the jeweled salad - barberries piled on high! Wonderfully refreshing. Definitely would go back the next time I'm in San Francisco.

I went to this restaurant with my husband. The Barg Kabab was $27. I asked for it without rice and grilled tomatoe, which if taken as side dishes are worth $6 and 1$. So one would expect a price of $20 when you order just the Kabab. They charged $25. I found it very dishonest.

3½* Lavash 507 Irving (5th Ave) SF 94122 415.664.5555 Nice Persian ambience Persian tea was good; tasted like orange pekoe Large portion of joopeh soltani and chicken kabob with rice over lavash was good Grilled lamb kabob was delish Loved the salad with cheese and mint Food service by Nazila was friendly Wine is available Baklava for dessert Little on the expensive side Cute little bathroom

Four of us came here for lunch on a Saturday and were treated to a fabulous meal. I ordered the Fesenjen and found it to be just like my Persian friends make in Denver...delicious. Others dishes were equally good. The personal service was attentive and we never felt rushed. The restaurant has just a few tables but did not feel crowded or noisy. I chose the baklava for dessert and was impressed with its flaky layers with just the right sweetness. If I lived in the area this would definitely be at the top of my list for places to eat. Thanks for the most enjoyable meal.

A group of us celebrated a birthday here and can’t stop raving about it. The restaurant is adorable and the service was impeccable. David and I shared the Taste of Persia, which included a variety of perfectly grilled meats and vegetables. We would highly recommend it. The lamb dishes were succulent and juicy, and the Lavash salad was the perfect start to the meal. Don’t miss the tiramisu with pomegranate seeds! 5 stars plus!!!

After our first visit here last year, we just had to go back. We were shown to a nice table for three for dinner, and they served free lavash with cheese, cucumbers, and lettuce. The chicken fasenjan and pistachio baklava are delicious here. As usual, we had the baklava packaged to go because they provide a generous portion loaded with honey. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. As we stood up to leave the restaurant, we remarked at how romantic the inside of the restaurant looked with a candle on each table and a large window facing the sidewalk. We feel this restaurant is a very good value,

I enjoyed the middle eastern feel and the wonderful grilled meat and jeweled rice. Small place, but nice large windows make it feel big.

What a wonderful lunch! I had the prawns kabab which was just right. Very flavorful. The dolma was the best I've ever had. Probably could have ordered another, we gobbled it up so fast. Then a neat Cherry Refresher drink that was just delightful. On our way out we picked up some baklava that was scrumptious. Very fresh and tasty. Will go here every time we get to SF, it was that good.

Came here for dinner last night and LOVED it! It was a Wednesday night around 7:30pm and for a table for 2, we waited about 15 min. The place is on the smaller side but cozy. We shared the following that were all delicious and we came away full: -Sabzi Panir salad with feta, cucumber, tomato, herbs, walnuts & grapes. The herbs gave it a great taste (cilantro, parsley, mint leaves and some sort of basil) -Yogurt salad - was great sauce for the salad as well as our main -Jeweled rice with chicken (Zareshk Polo) - the berries gave it an interesting, sweet flavor -Side of Skewer of Koobideh (mixed ground beef & lamb)- perfectly seasoned and juicy -Dessert of Sweet Special - almond brittle with pistachio ice cream -Mint tea - which came in a glass pot filled with a ton of fresh mint leaves All in all, great service, food and ambiance. Would come back again!

Delightful persion food, but very crowded and noisy. Table was quite small and difficult to balance serving plates with dinner plates. It would have been better with a smaller crowd.

I have tried all the persian restaurants on the east coast. I am originally from Maryland. I have never tasted iranian kabob like this! It was as if I ordered a dish from Iran. I have been to Iran and sat down on their carpet benches and ate authentic Iranian food. I ordered the fesenjan, gormeh sabzi, and the kubideh/joojeh combo. Don't try their gormeh sabzi; it is not that great. Their fesenjan on the other hand was to die for. This was the best fesenjan. It was so good that I had to return the next day to order that dish.

We had dinner with a friend at Lavash. The restaurant was conveniently located on Irving Street, and the layout was comfortable and friendly with several tables along the windows. There was already a crowd when we arrived, but we had made a reservation, so we were seated without delay. The owner is a very pretty and friendly woman, and the waitresses are all attractive. This was our first visit to a Persian restaurant, so we cannot compare, but we can say that the baklava is outstanding, and we loved the flavor of the fesenjan. The baklava was cut into pie-shaped slices, and somehow they had been able to keep a lot of honey between the layers of filo. We also liked the mint tea and free slices of lavash bread and cheese/cucumbers/basil and mint leaves. We are not surprised that Lavash is so popular. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the servers are attractive and efficient. A rare value.

We have been to several Persian restaurants but this one seemed less appealing. The food seemed dry and not terribly tasty. The menu was not terribly clear in terms of what we got. On the night we were there it was crowded and noisy. Good for business but hard for conversation. Service was prompt. Prices seemed normal for SF but certainly not a bargain.

Truly enjoyed our delicious meal. Everything spot on clean, fresh, succulent, and cooked to perfection. We were served a small complimentary plate of lavash, feta and herbs as soon as we sat down. Delightful. The beverages of tea and dough were tasty as well. A very busy, cramped restaurant at peak hours (I wish they were open all day)..I've been dining on Persian cuisine any chance I can get. I really enjoy the simple classic dishes and fresh ingredients. I would expect if they succeed that they'll expand or add another restaurant if they haven't already thought of it.

Our son recommended to eat at Lavash. It was a good experience with great ambiance and delicious food. The restaurant has only a few tables but an extensive menu. The dining area was cozy but still very private. The service was excellent but not bothersome.

I tried this place a few times. The food is decent but the way the owner treats the customers is aweful. To constantly nagging about having to finish up because another reservation for the table is coming soon is very irritating. We usually spend about an hour to an hour and a half on a Friday or Saturday; not that we were there forever. I promised myself to never go there again.

...glad i went. great food, friendly staff, tucked away in a less crowded area of the Sunset. I ordered the eggplant appetizer (yum) and the fesenjan (my favorite)

We had seen the restaurant from the N train and decided to give it a try since it advertised Persian food. We made reservations (a busy Friday night) and were seated immediately at our reservation time. We then preceded to have a great dinner! After a couple of starters, we had a khoresh, two different jewel rice dishes, and a chicken kebab. All were very tasty - one of our top dinners in SF. The service was attentive as well. All in all, an excellent dinner, great service, and at a reasonable price.

Made reservations. Were seated on time upon arrival. Service was prompt, courteous, and professional. Food was sooooo tasty and well prepared with decent presentation. All three of us in the family were extremely satisfied with our food!

One of the best Persian restaurants I've been to, meat quality was excellent, and food was soooo good!

Clean, tasteful, beautiful, cozy and welcoming. Great dishes with real Persian taste, served by serviceminded elegant people. We, from 4 different countries, were all happy after our visit and not in doubt that it was one of our very best experiences in San Francisco, new York and Washington.

Very disappointed with our meals at Lavash . Food was just not very tasty. Service was very good but Lavash did not live up to its reviews.

Pleasant service, great choice of food, I chose the Dolmas which were filled with meat and rice and a hint of safron, very tasty. My husband chose the king prawn kebab and since he is quite a fussy eater commented on how good the prawn were. We came upon this restaurant by chance and would highly recommend it. Prices for San Francisco are very reasonable. Our first time to a Persian restaurant and certainly not the last to this one.

This is The best quality taste of Persian food, it is family operated so it is a Persian home cocking, it is small so they can serve it, but also you need reservation, i came first time with my wife 5 years ago as romantic couples, it was winter time , and this is the second time with the kids. It is romantic for couples but also perfect family gather on top class perfect Persian food. DO NOT MISS THIS RESTURANT!!! Each person cost around 40 dollars with out alcohol. ENJOOOOOY!!

Terrible policy if you’re not seated even before their cutoff time, they won’t serve you, and you can’t even order to go. Incredibly inconvenient and customer-unfriendly. Definitely not coming . Information about their hours is incorrect

As a party of five we sampled a wide range of food. Particular favorites were the meat stuffed dolmas, the chicken skewers, and the roasted eggplant spread. This is a small venue, so the wait to be seated can be long, but the interesting flavors and attentive service are worth the wait.

Came in to the City last night to have dinner with my best friend of 50 years, from Walnut Creek and decided to try Lavash based on Yelp reviews. Arrived at 6:30 without reservations (who would have thought you would need them on a Tuesday night?). The lovely woman that greeted us jumped through a few hoops and led us to a table with a smile on her face even though it did create a bit of a problem, she never showed it. To be honest at first we felt a little funny since the restaurant is so cozy and romantic, but we were there to eat, not hold hands! Coming from Walnut Creek my standard for Persian food is Kabob House on Newell and Lavash came real close.Roasted eggplant starter was creamy and garlicky....perfect. We split the chicken (white meat) and koobideh kabobs. The koobideh is out of this world good, flavorful and moist. The chicken was flavorful, but a bit on the dry side which is where Kabob house shines. Also the rice seemed a bit dry or perhaps a tad overcooked. By chopping up the grilled tomato and mixing it in the rice with a bit of sumac, it was better. Excellent food, lovely and engaging server, nicely done dining room made for a wonderful "bromantic" experience. I definately will return with reservations and my wife!

Imagine an atmosphere of simple hospitality - delicately painted walls, sunlight, wooden tables - as if you have just wandered into someone's Mediterranean home for a meal. Now add plates of rice topped with jewel-like saffron, berries, and nuts, perfectly spiced meats, small plates of feta and cucumber with flat bread. That is Lavash. We stopped in for lunch on New Year's Day. The decor was wonderful, the service excellent, the food transported me to another continent. I only wish 2 things: 1. that I lived closer and 2. that the photos I took of the food had not been lost when my iphone died.

Oh my goodness. I am 1/2 Persian so I have some cred here. This place is AWESOME. Chicken breast kabob is amazing. Love the Sabzi Paneer which is feta, herbs, and bread. Dad and Mom got the beef kabob. This place was so good on our vacation that we came back twice. Thank you Lavash! Excellent service, friendly people, delicious food.

I love Persian food and this restaurant really delivers. It is full of fragrant and delicious spices used in a subtle, not overwhelming way. The saffron rice and skewers are my favorite. Service is nice and gentle too, not pushy but really friendly. I think it is a family restaurant, it feels that way. The desserts are good too. The restaurant is small so gets crowded. Reservations a must. It is best to go early or late.

After walking though Golden Gate park for a couple of hours, we jumped in the N Line MUNI and headed toward Cole Valley to find lunch. During the journey we decided to jump off and find a restaurant. We walked less than a block and found Lavash, small but filled with patrons at 1:30PM. We entered and were met with prompt and pleasant attention. Despite the crowd, a small table was found for us. The menu led to some questions as this was our first foray into Persian food. Our waitress was very helpful in navigating the menu and selecting two appetizers and one main dish to share. Be warned, the portions are significant! We enjoyed an eggplant dip and a meat/lentil patty appetizer, as well as a free house appetizer of Feta, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, and Lavash bread. All three were excellent! For our main we had a "bejeweled" rice dish, which I fail to recall the name of (see pictures). Again, this was excellent. All of this combined with a cold beer and great service. Simply great!!

Lavash is an authentic Persian restaurant in a very foodie area of the Inner Sunset in SF. I went with an Iranian friend who rates it as the best Persian restaurant in the Bay Area. They don't compromise their menu with non-Persian items. It is great to go with a small group (the restaurant isn't too big!) and share a number of appetizers and main courses. For anyone not familiar with Persian food they also have some Combinations platters which are a great way to sample Persian food. They have a good selection of California wine although personally I would stick with something more authentic like House Doogh or Persian tea. The staff are very helpful and were patient the evening we were there when we 'shut down' the restaurant!

We went with a group - everyone raved about the food. Fresh, delicious, hot & well seasoned. Very pleasant atmosphere & good service too. Highly recommend.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Inner Sunset - everything they serve here is delicious. Great, cozy atmosphere as well. Just make sure you make a reservation at least a day ahead - they fill up fast! Highlights: Kashk-e Bademjan, Tadig with stew (we got the vegetarian option), Mast-o Musir (it's delicious eaten with the rice!), and Joojeh. The black tea is delicious as well, as an end to your meal. Going here is always a treat.

I just visited this place few days ago and I was very impressed with the quality of the food! Very fresh and tasty. Also, it was a unique experience, with all these different things to eat. I liked!

This restaurant is a true gem for delicious food and friendly service in the heart of the city. My son loves the koobideh here and chooses Lavash for every special occasion. The place is small and you may end up waiting for tables even with reservations but once you get your delicious appetizers and main dish you will see that the extra few minutes were worth it. The salmon kabob is my favorite. It is grilled to perfection and is absolutely wonderful. Do not miss this wonderful restaurant in San Francisco.

Two of us had never had Persian food before and our friends took us here because they said it was the best. They were correct. We fell in love with the food, the spice, the ambiance and the friendly service. I couldn't tell you what we ate, because we let other people order for us, but everything we had was awesome. It is pricey but SO worth it.

Enjoyed the many favors of the food. Loved that a little Mezes plate was served at each table. Variety of menu choices were quite good also.

I had to return to this restaurant in the Sunset area of San Francisco which was introduced to me by a local and good friend who dines there often. Even her other house guests from overseas want to return to eat there as their first meal. Food is delicious and so genuine Persian it is scrumptious. Good sized servings, attentive service in a friendly, intimate atmosphere. You will not be disappointed whether it is either lunch or dinner.

So, my history with Lavash: It has always struck me as what it appears to be: trendy, quaint, usually not too loud, pretty good food, nice enough neighborhood. It has an ambiance that I've trusted over the past few years to be one that excels -- maybe not to the highest level -- but far beyond most such that, frankly, it's a conservative choice for a restaurant for a first date. Until last night. So, I take my date to Lavash with a more or less standard 8:30 reservation. We arrive at perhaps 8:35 and wait for about 5 to 7 minutes as they get a table situated for us. It wasn't quite the "oh, we have your table waiting for you" service that I might expect from a reservation but more from the airline school of thought where we take reservations and sometimes we overbook and sometimes we don't. I'm feeling artful this morning. I'll skip to the point. My date was Indian -- Hindu -- and ordered a dish that, when it comes to meat, consisted only of lamb. I ordered a dish that contained all beef. When we received our plates, we noted that her plate contained two types of meat and that one of the meats looked a lot like mine (beef). She asked one of the restaurant employees whether the mystery meat was, in fact, beef and received an assurance that it wasn't. She then politely asked that the woman verify with the cook that it was lamb. A short while later, the woman returned to tell us that, in fact, my date had been given beef. Apparently, they ran out of lamb (were likely just running short on it) and replaced the item in the dish with a substitute... ...without informing the customer. Problem number one. There would have been an allergic reaction. There was, in fact, a religious objection. Those two points aside, it was a violation on the part of the person who prepared the dish. So, my date asked that the dish be redone without the beef. The plate returns a short time later without the beef, but it appears that the beef was simply removed leaving the beef oils on the rice. She asked if the beef was simply removed and the woman that brought us our plate -- white woman, late 40's, blonde hair -- says that, no, she actually removed all of the rice, replaced the flat bread that lines the bottom of the place, and yada yada yada... ...except that the rice clearly had beef oil on it and a nearly unmistakable indentation where the long, tube-shaped piece of beef used to be. Problem number 2#: we received a bold lie in response a politely placed religious objection after our order was changed without our knowledge. So...I stare at the plate for a moment and just said to my date, "She's lying." I should never had to say this when I'm dining out. The rest of the evening doesn't really matter. My core issues with Lavash are stated above. The change in the order without notifying us could possibly be chocked up to a low-wage, rookie cook, but I have a low tolerance for being lied to in any context. I will not be eating at Lavash ever again.

It’s a family business, so they work with passion to make everyone satisfied with the food and the service. This was my first indication from what I have experienced. definitely I’ll come back if I visit San Francisco again. I had the filet with chicken were yum yummy

The server was nice and friendly. The food was excellent. We ordered a number of dishes and everyone was happy. The dolmeh was probably the best I've eaten at a restaurant. The restaurant was nicely decorated with indoor and outdoor seating.

Delicious Persian food! The lentil soup was very good. Had the beef stew with eggplant and saffron rice. Service was good. It was very busy so make sure you have reservations.

Fantastic food at reasonable prices! We had just a few hours in the city on our way through town, and we ate dinner here. It might seem like any other mid-priced place in that area, but the food is just excellent. The service was friendly, efficient, and professional, the decor is quaint and homey, and we will definitely be going back next time we’re in the city!

We had been recommended Lavash by someone from Iran, so admittedly are expectations were high. We were not disappointed. There were four of us, we ordered 2 appetizers, 3 mains (one for 2), and 3 desserts. We did finish most of the food, it was a bit of a struggle, but the food was so good! My favorite was the chicken in ground walnut with pomegranate sauce, delicious. The service was just right, friendly, not pushy, and helpful with the gf problem. Can't wait to go back!

Wonderful ethnic restaurant. The "fesenjan" is a must try dish and the eggplant appetizer is also a gem. The service was friendly.

Friends originally from Tehran recommended Lavash for delicious Persian food. Six friends ordered different entees, i.e., Taste of Persia for two, & different lamb dishes. All were delicious.

We ordered two appetizers (Tadig w/stew & Kashk-e Bademjan) and two bowls of Aash-e Reshteh. The portions were so large we had to take one of the soups home and barely made it half way through the second bowl. Very delicious and flavorful and the service was excellent. If you want tadig I suggest come early or couple hours after lunch hour rush because it goes fast. Ambience was inviting and relaxing. Will definitely return here.

First time here and we love it. Great food, nice service and friendly staff. Interesting but good dishes such as lamb tongue! Eggplant was also very good. We had the chicken, lamb/beef and lamb chops kabobs and all great. Nice neighbor restaurant in inner sunset and very close to UCSF. Der seers we’re very good too, tried Bastani and Faloodeh. Look forward to visit again and try other dishes. Recommend you call for reservation.

I had lunch at this place with my cousin and my wife. If you are craving for some Persian food, this is the place to go.

Hidden gem, great food, great customer service, a bit pricey but well worth the money. If you are not willing to wait for a table, you better make reservations.

This place has a nice variety of Iranian specialties. We shared so that we could get a taste of as many dishes as possible.

Excellent food, service, and music (which was at the right volume, not too loud). Fairly large portions. Persian food is exotic, very tasty, but not hot-spicy. Overall, a perfect lunch.

Food is mediocre. Chicken kabob is the only item that is good enough on that menu. The rest isn't even close to Persian food. We went back just to give it another shot and we had the worst unwelcoming experience as we had kids with us they didn't want us there. They couldn't wait to turn us around. If you like to eat real Persian food and get treated with respect go to Shalizar or Maykadeh!

Not a fancy place, located in the Sunset District, a good cab ride from downtown, The generous portions and friendly service were well worth the trip. Do not expect the typical Lebanese/Greek dishes that you find locally.

We visited this place for lunch. The place is very comfortable and clean. Food is great. We tried a mix of appetizers (strongly advised) and some nice meat dishes. Well done!

Our family visited Lavash for dinner. We didn't have reservations but they were able to accommodate us in the small but lovely dining room. We enjoyed a complimentary starter of bread, cheese and herbs. We shared several kabobs: beef, chicken and vegetable. The meat was tender and flavorful. Service was attentive.

This beautiful interior is very welcoming, as are the hosts. The food is Persian, and is delicious. There is a complementary starter with bread. They have well known Persian dishes such as fesenjoon (walnut with chicken), gormeh sabzi, and various kebabs, including salmon. A lovely wine list that features some Middle Eastern wines.

Had a reservation at 7 pm for 8...showed up and were rudely told the table wouldn't be ready for 10 minutes. 40 minutes later, after watching multiple parties leave and seeing a few tables were free, we went back in to check and were told we would have to wait longer. I would NEVER go here again and NEVER recommend it. The woman we spoke to was one if the owners and was incredibly rude to us...just about ruined my mother's 75th birthday celebration.

We wanted something different to eat so visited Lavash. Service was friendly and efficient. The waitress advising on the food. Food was very good and large portions. Very nice meal.

We loved the Iranian food - we ordered Sabzi Paneer and Zareksh Polo (delicious rice with Iranian berries and chicken) - and just loved the food. interiors are very interesting and staff super helpful. Great place, strongly recommended

A bit hard to get Reservation if it's for groups of 4 or more...in less you go early, like 5pm... tables were set up small...we went early so we were ok...the food..was good .. I would definitely go back again...

On a recent visit to San Francisco my husband and I thought of trying this popular Persian restaurant. Not being very familiar with this cuisine, our choice of dishes leaned towards the cautious -- kebabs, lentil soup, and fesenjan. They were well prepared. The restaurant serves what they call "lavash" bread -- very thin square bread. It was disappointing as we always enjoy warm pita bread and missed this. The restaurant, for its size, holds many tables and seating is not particularly comfortable and definitely not private. Nice for a casual fun meal rather than an intimate dinner.

Came here with some out-of-town guests, and I'm not sure I would recommend Lavash for that kind of get-together, for a number of reasons: It's very small, and crowded, and it gets really loud. Also, the small number of tables means you don't feel terribly comfortable sitting and relaxing and catching up. As soon as you finish eating, it does seem like you're expected to jet. The food is fine, but not necessarily rave-worthy. As vegetarians, there were several things we could order. We got the bademjan vegetarian style and the adas polo with the skewer of vegetables. The adas polo was fine, but really quite dry and not very flavorful. The bademjan was much better; it had much more flavor and complexity-- and the eggplant in it was truly fantastic, melt-in-your-mouth-- but overall, it just wasn't the kind of place I'd seek out and actively try to return to. Which just isn't what you're looking for when you have guests from out of town coming in!

I found myself alone on the streets near Haight Ashbury looking for great food and I found it. It fairly early on a Friday night but the place was starting to pack in and there was a long list of reservations. They were cool and sat me at a deuce right by the door and I was fine with just getting a table. I only tasted 1 dish, but there were a lot of ingredients and everything was fresh and flavorful. I had the combo chicken and beef kabob served with rice and lavash. Although I didn't need it I asked for spicy sauce and got a fairly mild chili mixture. Combined with some fresh coriander (known as cilantro here in the US), mint, and wrapped up the rice and meat in the lavash and I was in food heaven.

Uninteresting food, often bland, meats extremely overcooked; excellent welcome and table service. Nice appetizers, though.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. So, we stopped by for some appetizers before heading out on a hike at Golden Gate Park. We had the Dolma, Sabzi Panir, Yogurt Salad, and Soup-e Adas. The Persian food was fresh and delicious! A very nice and quiet restaurant it visit if you're near Golden Gate Park.

Lavash restaurant is a rather small but cozy and warm place. The menu contains a number of appetizers and a wide variety of Persian cuisines. Our party of five adults ordered khoresht Bademjan (eggplant dish served with rice), Kebab Barg (fillet of beef with rice and BBQ tomato), Joojeh Kabab (chicken breast with rice and BBQ tomato), and Kebab Soltani (combination of Barg and Koobideh- mixed ground beef and lamb- served with rice and BBQ tomato). For appetizer, we ordered Sabzi Pani, which is a dish consisting of herbs, feta cheese, cucumber, tomato, walnut and grapes served with lavash (a white flat bread). While Joojeh was slightly on the dry side and Bademjan was not as tasty as we expected, our food was delicious. The service was excellent. Although we did not order dessert, the menu contains some delicious choices, such as baklava, faloodeh, and makhloot (combination of fallodeh and ice cream). An 18% tip was added to our bill, which was not enough for such a superb service.

Small place so better call to make a reservation. Very attentive service and variety of dishes both for meat eaters and vegetarians.

nice atmosphere, service is a little bit lazy, they are not very fast. good for romantic dinner. Dinner was a little bit expensive compared to quality.
Great Flavors with a Cozy Ambience
Lavash was wonderful. We walked down from the hospital to have a late lunch and they found us a table for 4. The menu is extensive and decisions were difficult with all the offerings. We chose the Try it All, Sabzi Panir (which was wonderful with the cheese, nuts, fresh greens and grapes) and two kinds of yogurts. The smooth one with the garlic "zing"was our favorite compared to the yogurt and cucumber salad (which we also liked but was more on the mild side). The Soup-e-Adas (lentil soup) was a perfect addition to warm us on a typical foggy summer day in this part of the city. We ended by sharing a rice dish Zereshk Polo which was a perfect sweet/savory combo. The service was pleasant but not a place to try if you're in a hurry. We felt we could relax and no one was trying to move us out although they were busy. We left with our taste buds and our tummies satisfied. I look forward to coming back for a dinner with friends.
