What Atlanta needed...an excellent Vietnamese restaurant

By Ted M |

3 trips so far. The Shaking Beef is as good as Slanted Door in San Francisco. The Pho and Bun are excellent. Staff is very attentive.

First time I was disappointed...last time for awhile

By SmithAtlanta |

Le Fat has been one of our "go to" restaurants in ATL, but last night it disappointed. The food was good but the waitress and bar service left a lot to be desired. Is it possible not to be able to get a mixed drink or open a bottle of wine? Apparently so. As after ordering a promoted bottle of wine and after a wait being told they were out of it, then reordering a glass of wine for my wife and a mixed drink for myself, waiting another 15 minutes and no service. Then, when the waitress finally we appeared and we asked about our drink orders, she goes back to check, then comes back and says the bartender is new, drinks are not ready, do we still want them. Our answer was no. Just down the street the Optimist promptly served us a bottle of wine.

Classy Vietnamese with modern decor

By CVictorT |

Near GEORGIA Tech and this area has lots of restaurants. Free valet parking is a big plus. Quite a big restaurant with bar. Can't tell it's a Vietnamese restaurant when you enter. Menu is quite simple with great description. Pho is very good not too large serving. Fresh rolls excellent and fresh. Beef pho so delicious. Clay pot chicken is tasty but high price. Service is professional and deserve tips for sure.

Delish! You have to try!

By Renee S |

Went while in town for a week of travel. the food was super authentic with plenty in a portion. Must try the wonton do and the lemongrass shrimp is wow! (Just don't eat the whole Thai chili slice!)

Great food and good addition to Atlanta dining scene

By DPUSA |

Visited Le Fat on a Saturday night and was very impressed. The food is priced about right and was very good! The appetizers were imaginative and the entrees were all spiced perfectly. Only slight disappointment was desserts that could be better and more varied.

Pleasant room, almost out of beer, mixed cuisine experience

By Jan_from_Atlanta |

We started out with being advised that they had two of the six beers on the menu.... Coors and a pumpkin ale .... so ice water for me! We were told not the first time; well, they just don't order enough beer. Oh well. Of our two appetizers, wonton dumplings ($9) were tasty but the calamari ($15) was overpriced given little evidence of calamari but topped by much of what looked and tasted like Durkees crispy onions. The "spicy mayo" sauce tasted mostly like mayo. For the entrees, the clay pot chicken ($18) was really delicious and the highlight of the dinner. Less tasty was the curry chicken ($17), which needed a boost of flavor. The room is very pleasant but on this Saturday night, the noise level was really loud, so hard to chat. Service was good and the staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Surprised

By Dennis D |

Food is excellent, the bar scene is vibrant and the service was top notch. The place is a little loud, but the good food will make up for it.

Great Service and Pho

By Tom N |

Came here during lunch and the lady at the front desk was extremely helpful in describing the cuisine. I've been here a couple of times and I plan on coming back to try the rotisserie chicken.

Good food and service, with small portions

By somewhereingeorgia |

Service and food were very good. The restaurant design is beautiful, and parking is very easy in the adjoining garage. Just know that prices are higher than the Buford Highway area and serving sizes are small. We had a table of 6 eating family style and our server did an excellent job splitting the costs of dishes for separate checks. My least favorite dish was the soft shell crab on steamed buns, but they were good. For steamed buns I prefer Makan in Decatur.

Vietnamese cuisine done right

By Kristian V |

If you like to feel the taste of your food, to actually enjoy deep, rich flavors, this is your spot. The drunken noodles were exquisite and a spicy, rich taste. The clay pot chicken was done perfectly and the rice at the bottom was unreal. Great cocktails to boot. Family style seating makes it more casual which I like. If you are in Atlanta and like Vietnamese with a French flare, go there.

Le Fat

By Samira J |

Get a cocktail and chow down on the salt and pepper calamari, and the "shaken" beef (which comes with instructions, so pay attention!)

Awesome Says it All

By Don L |

This restaurant rates A 1 for me. I can't wait to go back to enjoy the finest of cuisine and the great personable staff. I would definitely recommend the Dumplings, Shredded Beef, and my favorite Clay Pot Chicken. The food is great, the upscale style is a favorite, the staff very accommodating and the prices perfect for such a delicious meal. Make sure you you put this place on your place to enjoy a great meal.

Could be much better

By Bob F |

9:00 reservation seated at 9:40. While waiting ordered drinks from bar.....15 minutes later got first drink of 4. Another 10 minutes to get two glasses of wine! Really!!! Seated and ordered. Appetizers came out in good time Entrees came out separately and 5-10 minutes apart for table of 4. Really??? Food is great but they really need to get their bar and kitchen organized and in sync Won't be back until I hear they have their act in order.

Wonderful experience from start to finish!

By mjmusicwilson |

Patrick, our bartender, created a drink for a guest of our party that was absolutely wonderful and spot on! The hand crafted cocktails were a perfect start to our exceptional experience. Barrett, our server, went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. Barrett was knowledgeable and professional while still being very down to earth and a real person instead of the fake repetitive fodder that we get from so many servers. Our first time and definitely not our last! The pan fried drunken noodles were exceptional and so were the dumplings.

Trendy, new Vietnamese restaurant

By Belinda M |

Amazing decor and setting. Pretty good food. Really high prices though... Le Fat is a fairly new, trendy Vietnamese restaurant located in West Midtown. Valet is offered right next to the restaurant in the parking deck. You are also more than welcome to park for yourself in the parking deck or on side street parking. The interior decoration is really elegant and sophisticated, playing off a French-Vietnamese theme. The restaurant is sectioned off into two prominent places: there's the main dining room where the bar resides. It's a really nice fully stocked bar with bar stools. On the opposite side of the main dining room there's the coffee/tea/sweets bar. It's also a waiting area with seats provided. I personally think this is a lovely setup, and a smart one too. While waiting, guests can enjoy a nice cup of tea while munching on a small snack. We were around the area and decided to stop by to try. Yes, we came with a party of seven without a reservation on a Saturday night so we did anticipate to wait. To our surprise, we were told we would only need to wait 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately, 15 minutes turned out to be 30 minutes, which turned out to be an hour, which turned out to be a 1.5 hour wait... I understand it's hard to quote a time to a guest, but the host should have done a better job at conveying the fact that he really wasn't sure instead of confidently telling us that it would only take 15-20 minutes. But yes, Le Fat will take reservations so make sure one is made before dining at this establishment. We finally got seated and was greeted by our server. He was really friendly and knowledgable. He took time to explain the restaurant concept with the French-Vietnamese inspired theme, the menu, and the drinks. Since our server raved on about how dedicated the bartenders were in crafting the drinks, I decided to try the Moscow Mule. It was really good and refreshing. A great summer drink for sure. Now to the food. I was sharing my meal with a couple of people so we got to try a couple of different things. We first started off with the Cha Gio - Crispy Spring Roll, which was comprised of chicken, shrimp, and wood ear mushroom. It didn't taste anything out of the ordinary. Just your regular spring roll so I wasn't overly surprised or disappointed. The portion size was a little small and I was expecting something bigger and fuller compared to other establishments that are trying to be a little more high end. Next we had entrees roll out: Bún * Vermicelli One of the classic dishes. It comes with vermicelli (rice noodles), lettuce, cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon with the option to choose from four kinds of meat: pork chop, chicken, shrimp, or beef. There's also an option to add a fried egg for $1.50. We decided to try it with the shrimp. It was pretty good and I was happy with the huge jumbo shrimp it came with. Bo Luc Lac * "Shaking Beef" Prepared with seared angus, spring lettuce, and jus vinagirette. This was probably my favorite dish. The beef was super tender and they came in decently big chunks. Salt & Pepper Calamari Crispy squid, Vietnames spices, jalapeno, thai pepper, fried shallots, and spicy house mayonnaise. As a lover of calamari, I wasn't overly blown away by this dish. It was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. Whole Fish Flash fried, crispy ginger, garlic, thai pepper, and ginger soy jus. Not sure if they change out their fish, but this time around it was a branzino. It was pretty good actually. I really liked the crunch to it since it was flash fried. The sauce it came with was amazing and paired really well with the fish. Overall, food was good but prices are high. This is definitely a place where you're paying for the atmosphere and the dining experience. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it and has outdoor seating as well. It's a place I'd consider revisiting for a date night where I want to dress up a little bit, but definitely not a place I'd go to on a daily basis. A 3.5 star, rounded up to a 4.

One of our worst meals in Atlanta

By MeggyFin |

I'll start by saying the atmosphere, the cocktails, and the staff are spectacular, so I had high hopes. But the moment our food order (including small bites/apps and entrees) came ALL AT ONCE, I knew we were in trouble. We immediately had to decide which things to let get cold as we tried to quickly enjoy everything ASAP. The crispy spring rolls were my favorite thing (perhaps because I got at least two relaxed bites in before we had to start eating like the world was gonna end) ;) The rest of the food... a solid "meh." The drunken noodles were good, but (maybe it's because I'm spoiled in Los Angeles) they're usually ALWAYS good if you put enough grease on 'em. (And they do.) And I found the fried chicken, which I was super excited about, to be inedible. All said, it was okay, and I bet the food would have tasted better if we weren't rushed, but I'm sad we wasted a meal at this place with our limited time (and a HUGE "must dine" list) in Atlanta.

1st time diner

By JKB |

cool atmosphere! we had a party of 7 so that always seems to bring issues but not here. The service was extremely fast. We had Drunken noodles, Chicken hot pot, Fried Chicken, Pho, Calamari, Escargot. Everything was really tasty except the Pho. It was ok. It was a birthday and they only had one dessert left after a busy Saturday night so don't bring a sweet tooth on Sunday.

Very good food and service!

By kpw31 |

Visited on a Saturday night with a friend. Attentive but not overbearing service. Tried a kale salad and two entrees which we shared! My friend said it was the best Manhattan she’d ever had. Enjoyed the Lemongrass Shrimp and the Chicken Clay Pot. All with very complex flavors. Will go again.

Love this place!

By SamandDerek |

Been here three times and it doesn't disappoint. The decor is gorgeous (especially the bar area). Invoking colonial Vietnam. The service has been consistently good and the food is outstanding. The Pho was good for a lunch option but supper here is by far the best. The crab vermicelli is my favorite and I always splurge for the $15 green beans - you won't be sorry! The craft cocktails are also tasty.

A Welcome Addition to Atlanta

By chad david s |

Le Fat is an excellent addition to Atlanta's growing culinary scene. The food is delicious and authentic...atmosphere is friendly. We shared a bunch of dishes, but I look forward to heading back to pick one for just for my own.

A yummy change of pace...

By Hepburntravel |

Asian French fusion done right! No one in our party was disappointed. Drinks, appetizers, and dinner was delish. Trendy atmosphere and good service. Clay pot chicken was one of our favorite choices of the evening.

Very So So

By DawnousAtl |

Not bad, but not good either, just meh. For example, the papaya salad was completely dull, no zing to it at all/not properly made. The wonton dumpling, which were supposed to have chili oil, had none that was discernible - just some mediocre dumplings in soy sauce. The atmosphere is fine; the wait staff fine. Paid parking in nearby garage is not too expensive. Full bar, some wine choices.

Dinner

By Ewellons |

The meal was decent. My wife is Vietnamese and we eat a good amount of Asian food. We were hoping for a dinner that easily surpassed what we get on Buford highway. While it was better, it did not ascend to the level we hoped. We did enjoy the calamari and the kale salad. Both were solid dishess

We found our Nam replacement!

By Mmcbrayer |

So who remembers Nam over on Monroe? A great gourmet Vietnamese restaurant that closed down several years ago. Well Le Fat is pretty much Nam on steroids. They have amazing shaking beef, drunken noodles, Clay pot chicken and more lots more. The Clay Pot chicken is amazing, the Drunken Noodles were spectacular, the Chicken Curry was really good. It was all good but add to that great service and fun and inventive drinks, plus a stellar wine selection.... Nam on steroids.

Excellent quality and reasonably priced!

By Christina B |

I happened upon this restaurant while visiting the area of Atlanta. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was an upscale, vibrant place! I ate at the bar. The waitstaff were very attentive and the food was fantastic and the portions generous. What amazed me was the very reasonable pricing. Bypass the other restaurants on the block and head straight to Le Fat. You won't be disappointed!

Incredible food and value

By Brian S |

I ate at the bar. The bartender prepared two excellent and unique cocktails for me and recommended the clay pot chicken. Food was incredible. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The bottom layer of the pot was essentially carmelized rice (overcooked but not burnt). It was the best Vietnamese food I have ever had and reasonably priced.

Can great food, save bad service?

By truffles444 |

Went to Le Fat with a party of 6, from the outset our server was working many tables around the room, instead of a small area. The spring rolls and dumplings were very good. But when it came to ordering, the server was very busy and never explained what each specialty was such as Pho, Com, Bun. Used my phone to view each dish so I could understand what they were. Food was very good, we had the clay pot, bun, com and shaking beef. Wanted dessert, I had black sesame ice cream. Seemed like dense consistency, almost like reduced amount of cream and milk were used. Would go back, but ask for a different server or slower night.

Classy Vietnamese Delivers Great Flavors in Elegant Setting

By soitgoes14 |

We really enjoyed our meal and experience at Le Fat. The location is very close to 5 Season, Bocado, Bar Taco, and Hop City. We were able to obtain free street parking right across from the restaurant but I did notice they had valet available as well. We had reservations for 7:15 on a Friday and once we entered and we were seated without an issue. They were busy but not slammed. The décor is elegant and it felt like a nice room to dine in. They have a bar area if you need a drink before your meal. We started the evening with a couple cocktails. I had their version of a pimms cup and my girlfriend had the bees knees drink. Both were well prepared and tasted very good. For our starter they were able to offer us a Goi Cuon without the shrimp due to my allergy. The summer roll was good, but probably our least favorite item of the evening. A lot of the reviews seem to talk about the small portion size so we ordered 3 plates to split….. Let me just say it was way too much food, but we loved it all. I ordered the Drunken Noodle dish, my girlfriend ordered the Clay Pot chicken and we also got the Green Beans which come with minced pork. We thought the green beans would be more of a side dish but it could easily have been a main for one person. My drunken noodles were wonderful. A few days later and I’m still recalling how good the noodles themselves were. Thick and delicious. The clay pot chicken was tender and flavorful. The rice on the bottom of the pot was crispy and hit the spot. The green beans were crisp and very tasty with the minced pork. Sadly after all that we had no room for dessert. Our service throughout the evening was as you would and should expect from a nice restaurant like Le Fat. We enjoyed our meals and would not hesitate to go back.

This is now on our if we're going to ATL we're eating here list

By thefluss |

OK, I admit it, I took a copy of Gardens and Guns, a magazine I don't normally read, from a waiting room. I only did this because we were going to Atlanta and they has a few pages on Atlanta restaurants. The magazine had some interesting and nice things to say about Le Fat. It was fairly late when we got there and we has a 3 hour drive home so we wanted a fairly light dinner and confined ourselves to the appetiser menu although numerous mains looked very interesting. The soft shell crab BLT was wonderful. It was perfectly prepared and seasoned deliciously. I try calamari where ever I go. This was the second best I have had anywhere I have ever traveled and that includes Europe, South Africa and Central and South America. It was very lightly breaded and served with fried shallotts and flavorful hot peppers. Desert was a light triple liquor cheese cake with a to die for chocolate frosting. You have to try this place.

Amazing flavors

By Jimmychu |

Super busy night but the service was amazing. Abby was great and Eric gave us a round of drinks for the wait, though we didn't mind. It's a must if you like Vietnamese!???

Good Food, Service Issues, Nice Attitude

By Jerry L |

We were in the neighborhood, so we made a reservation here. We arrived on time, but still had about a 15 minute wait at the bar. Not bad. But once we were seated, the kitchen lost part of our order. Waited 20 minutes for wontons. Very nice manager came over and apologized profusely and comped the appetizer. Server was equally apologetic. Chicken clay pot was great, as was the salt and pepper calamari, chili shrimp -- and the wontons. Will definitely go back and give this place another try. Nice vibe and professional management.

Great Vietnamese Food, but Questionable Service

By ttbryan1 |

I visited this place with three friends on a Friday evening for dinner. We had reservations for 8:00 pm and were promptly seated. They have valet parking in the garage right beside the restaurant, which is convenient, but not easy to find. The place is very contemporary and vibrant. For appetizers, we ordered the sweet rolls and calamari. The calamari was great, but we did not receive the sweet rolls, initially. Our server said she did not hear us order them, even though it was the first item we stated when we ordered them. They eventually came right after we received our dinners, which defeats the purpose. For dinner, three of us had the drunken noodles, which was excellent, and the other party had the crab noodles, which he enjoyed. Also, we had an order the green beans, which had a little spice and were excellent. One thing that happened was that the crab noodles dinner came out with one of the drunken noodles dinner. But, then the two other drunken noodles dinners came out about 10 minutes later. That really irritates me when they bring out part of the dinners and then have a time lapse before the others arrive, especially when three of the dishes were the same. I would have given this place four stars if the service had been better. But, overall, the food is great and I would recommend this place for an intimate dinner to a small group of friends.

Excellent food

By henry j |

A friend suggested we meet here for a quick dinner. A Vietnamese place? I am thinking pho and some cold spring rolls with shrimp and cucumbers rolled in rice paper. Well, I was wrong. The restaurant really has no pho on its menu. The appetizers were absolutely fabulous. We had the escargot, the dumplings, and the spring rolls. They were phenomenal. I never had dumplings that were so filled with so much shrimp. We ordered the dan dan noodles and the clay pot chicken. Again, phenomenal. This will be my regular stop whenever I am in Atlanta.

Great Spot for Asian Food on the Westside

By hmill |

Had the wonton appetizer and shaking beef that were both incredible! Papaya salad was really good as well. I have never been to Vietnam so cannot speak to authenticity, but service was great and food was excellent! Overall cool spot.

Good pho

By familytraveler38 |

I love pho and order it at least once a week at our local Vietnamese restaurant. Hubby and I went here last night (Saturday) and arrived around 9:30. It was pretty empty, I guess due to the time, but loved the cool, funky space with it's high ceilings. Boring me ordered my chicken pho and my husband had the Drunken noodles. My pho was good with a delicious broth, and the Drunken noodles were tasty and the portion was huge! Prices were very reasonable, and I expect we will return to try other dishes on the menu. Service was good.

Great Meal

By Runnerny2244 |

I really enjoyed the meal at Le Fat. The service was great. They were out of. Few items and cocktails when we dined, but what we had was good.z I tried the chicken clay pot. I very much enjoyed it. Would definitely come again. They also offer free valet parking.

French Vietnamese Cuisine In A Hip Edgy Atmosphere

By pcloverva |

I went to this amazing dining experience with a group of associates. Who knew this gem was only a few blocks away from my in town condo? The atmosphere is fantastic with a modern industrial lighting motif and a happy buzz. We were seated and greeted by the maitre d' who welcomed us with a glass of champagne. I scanned the menu and found the traditional Vietnamese dishes we love and happily they were on the list as well as a number of dishes that looked unique. I ordered the Summer Rolls as an appetizer. They arrived with a sear on the wrap I have not experienced before. They were the best I've ever eaten! As my entree I was intrigued by the listing for short ribs which is one of my favorite dishes. When the dish arrived, it was not what I expected to see. The short ribs were what I knew to be Korean Style Barbecued Ribs which I adore and haven't had since my last trip to Hawaii fifteen tears ago. To make this dish a short rib is sectioned into thin slices including the bone. The taste was out of this world and surpassed the ones I had eaten in Hawaii. What a terrific surprise. I called the server over and immediately made reservations for dinner the following week to celebrate my wife's birthday. We scanned the dessert menu and ordered at least one of each choice to share. From Creme Brulle to Chocolate Cake with Caramel and Salted Ice Cream they were all heavenly. The lively buzz and genial atmosphere made Le Fat an immediate top choice listing for dining out in Atlanta. A not to be missed experience.

Le Fat - Le Shrug

By Scootpunker |

Arrived expecting a super experience based on some word of mouth I had received. Pros: Space is beautiful, open and airy, Staff is friendly and attentive, Menu sounded exciting. Cons: It was a wednesday night early, and they had already run out ingredients for two of their signature cocktails. (really?), Beer list has 5 choices, no excuse for that in this town. Food: Some portions were on the small side, some on the medium to large side. I thought the Calamari appetizer was delicious, if a little overpriced at $15. I also thought that my Blue Crab Noodles were a bit skimpy on the crab and the glass noodles were overcooked. (They were mushy and it was a very small dish at $18) Prices aren't out of control, but I didn't think they were that great either. I'll certainly give it another shot at some point, but not anytime soon. Too many other places to try and visit. I love Vietnamese food, and for the hype and money spent on the vibe, I expected a better meal. (and seriously, please expand your beer list a bit)

Good Asian fusion.

By Gumdocga |

This is more of a hip, Asian fusion place more than anything. The food is good but the atmosphere and hip crowd may be their primary goal.

Great dinner

This restaurant is incredible. I recommend the Toronja en Cólera cocktail, the Con and the Chicken Clay Pot

food + service + decor + easy parking = great night out

By Mike Wittenstein |

My sister from out of town was visiting, so we assembled about 10 friends to try Le Fat for the first time. Every single one of us loved it. We had four different appetizers and about six different dinners. Most of us tried most of them and everyone loved all of them. The softshell crab BLT bun and spring roll appetizers got everyone's tastebuds going. The favorite main courses included: clay pot chicken, drunken noodle beef, tofu eggplant, and shaken beef. The Vietnamese coffee was a hit (ask for instructions ;-) and the delicately flavored desserts topped everything off. We're going back as a family. I'm taking some clients. Two thumbs up!

Le Big Fat Lie

By Holy Guacamole |

Don't believe Le Big Fat Lie! It's been years since I dined at LeFat because of the unprofessional staff, but now I completely understand why - their manager has no clue on how to manage a business or take accountability. I took my parents to this restaurant for my mothers birthday (even though we don't dine-in, we still order take-out because the food is good - overpriced, but good). When we arrived, my mother and I walked in and asked for a table while the other two parked the car. The manager checked us in and asked how far away the other two guests were, so we told her they were paying the meter. The manager insisted we park in the parking deck because it was free so we followed her instruction. We had a great dinner and our server was very nice so I was pleased that we made the decision to come back after many years. However, when we arrived at our car (parked in the parking deck the manager instructed us to park in), we found our car had been booted. For the record, every single parking space has a sign for over a dozen different businesses - most of which are closed at 7:30pm on a Monday night, HOWEVER, the manager never said a thing about designated parking. After spending $140 on dinner, it cost $75 for us to get the boot taken off - this was literally 50% of our dinner - and took over 30mins. I went back to Le Big Fat Lie to discuss this with the manager, but she was quick to blame us - stating there are designated signs and we should've read them. We were perfectly fine parking on the street, but the manager insisted we use the parking deck. She did not make one attempt to apologize or offer compensation; it is completely unprofessional to blame your guests for following your instructions. All I have to say is "never again will I believe/dine at Le Big Fat Lie!"

Good food, good service

By edge8400 |

Ordered a takeout meal for 8 people ($160). Turned out really well. Food was prepared and packed well. We had Vermicelli w/Grilled Beef, Beef Drunken Noodle, Pork Belly Bowls, Clay Pot Ginger Chicken, and glass noodle Spring rolls. Definitely worth checking it out.

Do you enjoy drinks on your birthday? Read 1st

By MostlyPositiveReviewLady |

After a fitting day at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, we fell straight down the rabbit hole and into Le Fat. It was my 31st birthday, which I always celebrate with dinner in Atlanta with my boyfriend, my best friend and her husband. A fun tradition we all look forward to each year because we all love to eat (and drink). Being really into Vietnamese food the past couple of years, I really wanted to get some Pho & have some drinks alongside, which is not normally offered with this type of cuisine. After a round of cocktails and 1 bottle of wine, maybe another drink or two between all four of us, we were suddenly greeted by a manager. Up until this point I would have given the place a 4.5 / 5. The food was great, the lights a little too bright, but besides that, we were having a good time. The manager proceeds to inquire about a final drink order we had placed. We were not being loud, cussing or drawing attention to ourselves. As all of us have been in the service industry, some of us managers ourselves, we were literally dumbfounded by the conversation. He rambled about how many drinks we had had, wondered aloud how we were getting home, and generally talked in circles. When he realized how awkward and uncomfortable we were, literally staring at him with our jaws on the floor, like a unicorn had walked up to the table, he then offered the last round on the house. What a strange turn of events. You’re at our table disturbing us because you think we’re drinking too much (citing your servesafe certification) and then the next minute those drinks are free? I have to wonder about your problem solving skills at this point. All and all it made for a memorably awkward dinner that should have gone a different way. I’d love to come back for the food but I can get the best pho in Atlanta and no alcohol and be perfectly happy too. Long story short, we came to celebrate and y’all were quick to put that fire out! I wish I would have gone back to Cooks and Soldiers, where they found out it was my birthday and brought us amuse-bouche on the house and my server didn’t have the personality of a wet blanket.

Space Cool, Food Delicious, Service Slow and Relaxed

By BJAATL |

if you are a fan of Vietnamese food go or if you want to try; other wise pick something else. Pros: Cool space on Westside with long bar, excellent cocktails with unique combinations, all dishes were good some excellent and some OK. Favs: shrimp, pork greeen beens, dumplings, calamari. Cons: Service was fun and relaxed but often major periods of non one. Crab noodles, com - it was just boring.

OK Food...Expensive

By toyman111 |

Three of us went to Le Fat for dinner and found the food above average but expensive. We had two small appetizers, three main dishes and one small side dish. While the food had a good taste, the bill was about $100, excluding a tip. Service was timely and professional. If you are looking for a Vietnamese restaurant Le Fat is a good choice...just be aware of the cost.

Good, Not Great

By SandBAtlanta |

We love Vietnamese food and were really excited to try Le Fat. The pictures we'd seen were beautiful - the space and the food. We tried the wonton appetizer which I thought was pretty good but my husband did not like the texture at all. It looks kinda wrinkly and not all that appetizing, but again, I thought it was pretty good. For entrees we had the shaking beef and vermicelli with a crispy roll. It was all just fine. In all honesty, the best Vietnamese food in town is at Pho Dai Loi. Of course, the atmosphere at Pho Dai Loi is a far cry from the beautiful atmosphere at Le Fat, but the food is more authentic and half the price. The upside at Le Fat was the service, which was top notch.

Just ok

By Jim B |

Mediocre food for high than average price and pleasant but spotty service. Potential is there but I'd trade out chef quickly.

Good atmosphere, good food

By ilivetotravel |

I had not yet heard of this place until a friend suggested we go. I expected to go to a regular Mom-and-Pop Vietnamese place (which I like). Le Fat was a little more upscale than that which actually worked well. It has good atmosphere and a nice full bar which was perfect for what we were looking for. I had the shaking beef which was phenomenal. My friend ordered the salt and pepper calamari as an appetizer; I am not a fan of calamari (and these were a tad dry) but the stuff on the side of the calamari was delicious. I will definitely go back to keep trying some of their dishes; they sounded really good. There is a parking deck right by the restaurant and they valet park.

Rush, rush, rush

By michael c |

Waiter in a rush..... no sooner than we had ordered the appetizer came out, an Asian sandwich with soft shell crab in the middle. the crab was cold, and beginning to wrinkle, and it was dry. The bun was cold. the single leaf of lettuce was wilted, and along with the slice of tomato, looked as though it was left over from the day before. half way through this unusual experience the next course came out, closely followed by another. the waiter almost wrung the neck of the wine bottle to get the last drop out. All in all it was a wasted evening from a food perspective, I had heard wonderful things about the restaurant, and none of them were true.

Excellent Vietnamese Restaurant

Recently met family for an after holiday dinner. Wide variety of dishes, including many vegetarian options. Service was superb and the prices were very reasonable.

Neat place!

Neat atmosphere, good service, The food was great. I got the crab noodles and my husband got the spicy green beans with pork- both were great- big portions.

great food, value for money

Lovely interiors, especially the bar.  Great service and food that hits the spot! At long last, we finally made it to Le Fat! Upon entering, we were impressed by the interior design and friendly receptionists. We were seated right away as we had reservations.  My husband already knew he was having the claypot chicken going in and we ordered the pork bao while I chose from the menu which was pretty straightforward. As I was looking through Yelp photos, I decided to order the lemongrass beef rice plate/Com as it reminded me of a breakfast staple we have in the Philippines called beef tapa.  True enough it was like the Vietnamese version of it and it truly hit the spot.  It was really simple, beef marinated in lemongrass, fried egg and pickled veggies nothing over the top so I'm glad it didn't disappoint.  The pork bao was really good too but it was a tad too small. My husband's claypot chicken, while it was good, didn't taste authentic. We can be mistaken but didn't taste like it was truly cooked in the claypot it came in. It didn't stop him from enjoying the dish but it could've been better. The crispy rice it came with was a delight to eat!

Excellently prepared Asian fusion food

We had the calamari, the clay pot chicken, shaken beef and soft shell crab. All were spectacular (only mediocre dish was crab) and highly recommended. The crab dish left us wanting something more in terms of depth of flavour. Pretty ordinary. Prices were fair and dishes arrived quickly. Service was great.

Did not disappoint

Went there for for dinner with patrons that were regulars. The drunken noodles were delicious as was the Clay pot chicken. Service was good as was our dining experience.

YES!

I can't get enough of this place.. We tried the summer rolls with shrimp and beef, the pho.. AMAZING! The prawns were really nice but the papaya salad was out of this world.

Excellent but very noisy

By Nathan Dean |

My curry was excellent. My wife had the crab noodle and shared it with me - also excellent, as were the other entrees ordered by our group of five. We had a selection of appetizers and deserts which were also very good. Service was fine. Unfortunately it was so noisy we couldn't talk to each other! The modern restaurant ideal seems to have become "If you can hear across the table you aren't having fun!" Maybe it shows my age but I strongly disagree. We wanted to get to know a new couple invited by our host but it was hopeless.

Good and Mediocre

By David T |

I like Vietnamese food generally. This restaurant seems to restrain some of the flavors typical for this type of cuisine. Its not uncommon for ethnic restaurants to moderate, typically with sweetness, to meet the demands of their local area. I was hoping for more of authentic experience. The decent: the dumplings The good: the chicken curry The waste of money: the baquette sandwich. The service is avg not to say its bad. The staff does manage to give off an air off annoyance with you being there. Too many options in this space and nearby to go out of your way. The Pho restaurants in mid town come to mind.

Do Not Miss!

Wonderful Vietnamese! The clay pot chicken is not to be missed. The pho is excellent and rice cake appetizer and the salt and pepper calamari with yummy fried onion and garlic slaw appetizer are fabulous. Our server Tim was gracious and his service impeccable. It has a nice decor that is comfortable but still very nice.

Yummy

This is a lovely, unpretentious, and delicious restaurant on Atlanta's west side. Lovely decor, attentive but not overbearing staff, reasonably priced.

Fantastic Vietnamese food. The fresh summer rolls were tasty and the hoisin garlic chili sauce was heavenly. The papaya salad was light and fresh tasting. The garlic crab noodles with sriracha butter was super unique and flavorful. Also the green beans were an awesome dish- huge portion!

Great spot for couples, friends, small groups. Wide variety of speciality cocktails and all around great food.

What a wonderful spot! Everything we order was great, well portioned and seasoned. Cocktails were yummy too. Wait staff attentive and had great recommendations.

The best Vietnamise I have ever eaten

By smfargo1 |

I took my daughter and her 3 friends to Le Fat and was expecting regular Vietnamise food. This was very upscale, complicated asian food that was Americanized to satisfy a competitive and demanding clientele. The chicken pot was excellent, the noodles were great, spring rolls were also great. We had a feast and ordered too much off the menu. These are large portions.

Good food, overwhelmed staff, questionable A/C, VERY VERY VERY LOUD

By Steve B |

My husband and I along with two other couples visited Le Fat last night for the first time. I would summarize our experience as I did in the title of this review. The food was good: the Cha Gio • Crispy Spring Rolls my husband and I shared were absolutely delicious; My Pho • Noodle Soup was also quite good once I added the provided plum sauce, lime and fresh mint leaves. My husband had the Drunken Noodles which were, at best, just ok. The Whole Fish one friend ordered was both gorgeous and reportedly delicious. Two friends ordered the Shaking Beef which was a tiny portion, especially compared to the size of the other dishes at our table, but which they reported was very tasty. Lastly, our final friend had the Bun Bo Hue • Spicy Beef Stew which he enjoyed although he commented on the high spice level. NOTE: Our server, Matthew, seemed very knowledgeable about the menu and I had asked about the spice level in the Bun Bo Hue and he described it as "medium plus." I like spicy but not extremely spicy. I am glad I chose the Pho! I tasted the Bun Bo Hue and I would not have been able to eat it - one spoonful of the broth required my entire glass of water to put out the fire. Regarding our server, he seemed very rushed and somewhat brusque as he was running around dealing with multiple tables including ours. We agreed that the overall impression was a significant staffing shortage. Since we were three couples, we asked for separate checks for each couple, which we have done routinely at other restaurants. He required three trips to our table to get the checks correct for each couple (he comped our appetizers which was very thoughtful). We observed that on each trip to and from our table during this seemingly simple exercise he was stopping by other tables and taking orders, removing dishes, etc., and we concluded that he was so overwhelmed that he couldn't remember our wishes as he dashed in either direction. Despite these issues, my husband and each of our friends rated the dinner a 4 or 5. My rating of 3 is based on the entire experience which was significantly affected by the temperature of the restaurant, uncomfortable seating, and the extreme noise level. I was sweating through my clothing while dining which is not the best way to enjoy a night out with friends. Additionally, the booth at which we sat had a curved and cushioned seat for 3 of us and small (let me repeat: SMALL) wooden chairs for the other 3, including me. Talk about uncomfortable! I am 5'10" with a pretty average sized bum (in my opinion) yet the raised edges of the seat were pressing rather angrily into my cheeks which required shifting my weight continuously trying to get relieve the pressure. More problematic was the extreme noise level: our table was in a corner and yet I truly could not hear my companions on the other side of the table, nor could they hear me. We shouted and repeated ourselves throughout the meal which is not conducive to enjoying dinner with good friends. Perhaps the ridiculous noise level was due to there being mostly groups like ours (6 or more) at large tables rather than couples at smaller tables. Would I go back? Probably not, but only because of the comfort and noise issues.

Le D@mn That's Good!

By im0tiv8 |

So... my wife finally talked me into taking her to Le Fat tonight. And yes, once again I'm feeling like a total dork for not listening to her sooner. This place is fantastic! We started with the salt and pepper calamari, then moved into the chicken clay pot and blue crab noodle. Holy goodness. The chicken had a delicious golden glaze with soft, plump roasted garlic cloves throughout. I need more of it in my life soon!

Valentines great

By Ted R |

We went to this establishment the Saturday after Valentine’s Day. The service was great and the waitress did a good job of explaining things. Everything we ate was fantastic. Highly advise the chicken clay pot. Great flavors and crispy rice is different and tasty. We also got drunken noodles which was also very good.

Great Calamari

By AnnaB1952 |

We tried for the first time and like it but have had better on Buford Hwy. the calamari here is some of the best we've tried. Dusted in cornstarch, it comes hot and crispy and seasoned to perfection. Banh Mi Bao was doughy and disappointing. Clay chicken pot was good but didn't have that distinctive flavor we were looking for. Columbe under signature cocktails was delish. If you are a buttery oak Chardonnay fan, be prepared to pay $15 a glass as there aren't many choices.

Don't skip the cocktails

By luv4phood |

My daughter selected this restaurant for a family dinner to celebrate her 18th birthday. For starters, we had the crispy spring rolls and pork belly bao. If you have not had bao, it is a must. The buns are spongy and sweet and are the perfect complement to pork belly. Try the shrimp clay pot. The crispy rice at the bottom of the pot is a real treat!! And, it seems that the cocktail menu is ever changing. I had a lemony flavored drink that the waitress indicated was made with a japanese rice liquor. One thing to improve was the service. It was just a bit odd that each dish arrived at our table as it was ready. One person sat looking at their meal while we all waited for the rest of our dishes to be served.

Outstanding Vietnamese with a French Bistro Twist

By Traveler1959-123 |

We'd heard about this new restaurant and wanted to try based on knowing the chef's reputation. Our group tried many of the dishes and shared to get the best overall feel. Nothing disappointed! The appetizers were great, especially the dumplings. We tried the whole fish, the whole prawns, and the clay pot chicken for the main course. The whole fish was good but not great, but the other two were exceptional. I usually don't think about desserts at a Vietnamese restaurant, but the chef makes his own sorbet and it was phenomenal!

Beautiful design and delicious food

One of the best design restaurants in Atlanta, feeling comfortable, Pho is awesome, the clay pot is so delicious, strongly recommended.

Unique atmosphere and amazing food at a reasonable price

By Alex M |

We've been here twice for dinner - once for New Year's and once for a birthday. Both times were great experiences. Food is delicious and service is great. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is unique. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try something beyond the ordinary. I also normally hate valet parking especially when it involves restaurants simply blocking off normal parking spots so they can earn some extra cash. In this case valet parking is complimentary (still tipped $2) and is in a deck that is 100 yards from the entrance. Given the area, this is a no-brainer and cheaper than paying for a meter.

Good food

Had a really good evening - good food and drinks. Especially the ceviche and the octopus was great - lots of flavors

Fresh, delicious flavors

By Joy M |

Definitely plan to make a reservation in advance if you want to eat here. I called around 7:15 on a Saturday thinking we could get a table for 2 at 7:45 or 8:00, and there was nothing available until 9:15. We opted for Plan B and ordered take-out. It only took 15-20 minutes for the kitchen to prepare our take-out meal, and it was nicely packaged with reusable containers. My husband and I split an order of summer rolls and papaya salad, and both were flavorful, delicious and refreshing. Quality of ingredients seemed very high. We both ordered steak bahn mi for our entree, and the bread was crusty and fresh. The steak was tender and beautifully cooked. Carrot, cilantro and onion topped the sandwich. I could have gone for a spicier sauce, but overall it was very good. In short, a good place to eat if you're looking for Vietnamese food that is flavorful and fresh, but on a menu that is approachable and straightforward.

Good Vietnamese

By Joyjacobs |

I really love Vietnamese and this place serves it really well. Really good quality soup, and fresh noodles, the dish I really enjoyed here was the Spicy Chile Prawns and Shaking beef. Some of the best Vietnamese in Atlanta.

Worst meal / service ever!

By casimak |

User beware! DO NOT eat at this restaurant....the service is terrible, the drinks and food are worse (if that's even possible).

Wonderful dining experience.

By Renman2011 |

Start with the Wonton Dumplings. So good you are tempted to order a second serving. Then share the Bo Luc Lac Shaking Beef and Ga Ko Noi Dat Set Chicken Clay Pot. You will leave content.

Slow Service, Beware of Parking with Valet

By 1JF2 |

Service is slow. NOTE: My car was hit after the valet attendant was distracted and a group of men got the keys to the cars. Keys were taken from box and while they tried to steal a car, hit mine. Restaurant manager advised they would cover any expenses associated. Waited to be towed for 4 hours after dinner. Called after my car was fixed (note: my car was not drive-able, took two weeks to fix) and she said it wasn't their responsibility, she said it was valet. Called valet and they haven't resolved my expenses. Ended up being a very expensive dinner. Thanks for a lasting impression and not doing what you (valet & restaurant) said.

Underwhelming Lunch Menu.

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Le Fat is a casual Vietnamese restaurant that might be better experienced at dinner time, as the offering at lunch time is pretty slim. Which is unfortunate and disappointing at the same time. All ordering is done at the counter, with the food being brought to you. Staff was friendly. The items served at lunch time, seem to be ones that can be made and brought out quickly. As a result, you don't get to experience the more interesting dishes served on the dinner menu. I can't say anything on the lunch menu really excited me. What I had was fine, but nothing I'd go back for a second time. Will give Le Fat a try for dinner in the future, but probably wouldn't go back at lunchtime.
