In Europe I am the one to jump out of bed and go out to get whatever we need for breakfast. That rarely happens in the US because truly great bakeries are hard to find and almost never in walking distance of our lodgings. Le Marais, though, is only a minute's stroll, two minutes if you have to wait on the crossing signal. In style it is European. The pastries are laid out in a glass-front counter, easy to see. The names are clearly marked. The prices are fair. We always go for the pain aux raisins but I also tried a baton (delicious but a little too sweet for me in the am) and a strawberry scone (very good). The coffee is dark roast and strong. There are quite a few tables for eating in--or coming by a noon for lunch. Like all good pastry shops, however, it is an early hours business. IMO, the Carlton Hotel could use the proximity as a marketing device! We were here for four nights and that mean four delicious breakfasts!

What an oasis! I must have walked at least 5 miles to get to the restaurant, well worth it! Clean, calming atmosphere. The service was excellent, with a smile. I had never had this type of breakfast before, and enjoyed it. I even had a treat to take back with me.

Got some croissants for carry out and they were they best ones I have every had. Get the Kouign Amann in lemon - it was sooo good. I'd even say these guys were better than Tartine (which was really good as well ) and better locations too.

Excellent experience, truly French taste, climate and great hospitality. We have visited various Bakeries in SF, this one by far the best!

This little spot clearly has a baked that knows their way around a croissant (and other items, as well.) They offer a great selection to grab and go or some nice prepared meals to eat in. They also offer a good five or seven item ‘board’ where you can mix and match to your desire. Definitely recommended.

Mouth watering and perfect combination of Almond and chocolates croissants will make your day amazing no matter what. With a piping hot cup of coffee and freshly baked croissants you could probably name it the best breakfast in the world. Definitely you will go back to get more once you have tried them. Voila!

Was there to meet a friend for a cup of coffee and of course something baked! The place was almost empty at noon on a weekday, but the service was slow, we had to wait too long at the counter for somebody to appear. The music was too loud.

Le Marais on Sanchez Street in San Francisco is wonderful, really. We ordered some chocolate croissants and apple cake to take home. Absolutely outstanding and great customer service. Now, if they would only start baking and selling baguettes, that would be over the top! Long live Le Marais in San Francisco!

An amazing place for a breakfast or a brunch. It is possible to order different things on the breakfast menu (fruits, eggs, breads and of course croissants) for a very reasonable price (~15 or 19 dollars). An why not add a pain et chocolate as desert!

I have dreaming about their crepes since my last Saumon crepe here with local friends. Really nice location with outdoor seating on a quiet corner in the Castro. The mushroom crepe is equally amazing. Coffee and breakfast items also mouthwatering. I will return.

Delightful neighborhood restaurant with just pastries or prepared dishes. Dine with the "natives". It's small and can be tight, but tables free up even if full if you wait just a bit.

We had a mixture of pastries and good coffee here. Everything is cooked perfectly and you can get a french-tasting pastry. The team are clearly excellent and cheerful - making this a must-visit if you're in the area. You can watch the pastry chefs making Croissant etc as it is open-plan. Superb!

A nice discovery here near the Nob hotel as they do not offer breakfast there. They could make a partnership Everything here is very well done. Definitely the best place to have coffee nearby.
Fanatic breakfast
Fantastic bakery with almond croissants and coffee a major attraction. There is plenty of seating inside and outside with staff friendly and helpful. Pricing issue little high, but that's a San Francisco thing
