We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. The ambience was buzzing but not overloud. The menu was interesting and varied. The food we chose was delicious…so can recommend Crab Spaghetti and Iberico Pork. Service was attentive and friendly. Wine by the glass was good quality. The vibe was friendly and the kitchen was cheerful to see. Most enjoyable and therefore good value.

Very good. Moderate noise level in a very well appointed restaurant. Attentive service. Scallops had a perfect seared crunch while cooked just right throughout. The Trout was delicious. Wood grilled escargot were superb. Desserts are decadent!

After some years when French restaurants became scarce in Chicago, they appear to be making a comeback. Le Sud is part of that trend and a welcome addition to the North Side dining scene. Located on a street corner in Roscoe Village, the restaurant is attractively decorated and welcoming. The menu is divided into 3 sections: a partager, openers to share; entrees, otherwise known as appetizers; and plats principaux, or main courses. The menu is approachable, service is friendly and competent. The food is credibly French bistro fare with a couple of dishes like their burger to appeal to American palates. It's not the place for a refined, exquisite French dinner but you can get a good, satisfying meal here.

Two couples, for outstanding dinners. Octopus, escargot, shaved spring vegetables for a starter, entrees of scallops, pork chops and duck were the his of the night, Our outstanding waiter Mark found several great wines and gave knowledgeable food selections. Can’t wait to go back.

Le Sud is a charming bistro with spot on friendly service, delicious food, and a beautiful decor. The duck was outstanding as was the boulabaise. After only two months in business, it's already hard to get a table.

The only thing authentically French about this restaurant is their refusal to accommodate an alteration to a dish (adding an egg to a burger). Doing that is okay if the food is amazing (as is often the case in France), but not here. Despite being on the menu, there was no baguette (it was unclear if they had just run out or if it was going to be taken off the menu). The country bread we were offered instead was truly inedible (and I love bread!). Just very dry and bland. Croquettes were okay. Burger was ok but came with fries that were over-cooked and greasy. Parisian gnocchi was recently replaced with a vegan pumpkin dish (not very French) as the sole vegetarian main course option. It was okay, nothing I would need to have again. When it came time for dessert, they were out of everything except the cheese plate and some ice cream. Giving two stars because I liked the decor, but I won’t be coming back. And if you live in Chicago, it is really not worth the long ride out to Roscoe Village. Much better options to be found in the city.

We've now been at Le Sud for dinner twice. It is a lovely restaurant, very reminiscent of restaurants in Paris or the south of France. There is a large upstairs area with its own bar and a main-floor with a charming, smaller dining area. The service is pleasant, professional, and friendly. The food is very good. We have eaten, and enjoyed, pork chop, duck breast, and trout, and enjoyed them all. Le Sud is located in the Wicker Park neighborhood on the north side of Chicago. It is a very nice, gentrifying area, with a mix of older homes and renovated buildings, shops, bars and restaurants. There is street parking; you may have to go around the block, but parking is free or, if you park at a meter, very inexpensive (maybe $5 for the evening). Go and enjoy but please don't tell too many of your friends about Le Sud because then we won't be able to get in. Reservations are available (and suggested) on Resy (reservation system).

I was inspired to write, because it was the best burger I think I’ve ever had! Very memorable! The rest of the meal was delicious also, along with the service. Very delicious: the special polenta appetizer, salad, and the bucatini pasta also great! But the burger was so good!!!

As always, food was delicious and the service was great. We had cocktails as well, and they were perfectly prepared. The dining room is elegant but very comfortable.

12/2022 We have been to Le Sud on several occasions. It is always a special evening. This evening, the Christmas decorations were beyond description. We took pictures, but we did not do the room justice. We urged our friends to visit just to see the beauty of the restaurant. The service is impeccable. The food is delicious and interesting. The place settings and dinnerware are so charming. You really have to visit several times to take everything in even when there is not a special holiday. The menu is simple and easy to choose from. There is an array of choices even though there aren’t hundreds of items from which to choose. You will always find several items to die for - from appetizers to the elegant desserts. Please note, while this is a beautifully appointed restaurant, in a class by itself, It is absolutely a comfortable place and not in anyway stuffy. You will frequently find the owner going from table to table, making certain her guests are enjoying their dinners .

We all have different measures evaluating new restaurants. For me it is the quality of bread and the service. Le Sud, with its freshly baked, crunchy bread and friendly service passed the tests right away. This is a neighborhood restaurant serving good quality but simple French meals. There are two floors with the upper floor used for special occasions--as we were doing. The wine list is limited but satisfying. The overall experience was satisfactory.

The team at Le Sud is nothing short of fantastic. We searched for an outdoor location to enjoy our anniversary at and Le Sud did not disappoint. It was 50 degrees in the evening and their outdoor heaters worked amazing. We sat across from a heater with more than enough social distance between tables and we were extremely comfortable all night! Their wine & food menu transports you to your dream vacation on the Mediterranean coast and offers a perfect marriage of elegant coastal seafoods and elevated comfort foods. I highly recommend the shrimp, octopus or arctic char dishes! Plus the peaches and sabayon dessert is melt in your mouth delicious. They have the "wow" factor down for service as well. Ask for the server Jeff- he sure knows his wine and offers great recommendations for food and wine pairings and was so pleasant to chat with throughout the evening! To make things even more special for us, they printed menus with our names on them in honor of our anniversary! It's details like this, from the food, to the drinks, to the intentional and genuine hospitality that make Le Sud such a special place. Thank you to Sandy and her team for providing such an unforgettable outdoor dining experience- especially during these times we're in! Highly recommend dining here this winter- we will be back to that patio!

Food is great and always consistent. Service is top notch. Beautiful space and when the weather is nice outside is really special

If you know how bouillabaisse tastes this was far from it. Bouillabaisse in the south of France has a deep rich dark color & flavor. Never with potatoes. Their loup de mer is a branzino - deliciously grilled but not rightly deboned. Bones were still in the fish. We took the ice cream as dessert, the lavender goat cheese. Wouldn’t take it twice, as the fig with thyme. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, but is kind of disappointing if you know really well what French food is.

Returning to Chicago, we dined al fresco on 7June at LeSud in the trendy Roscoe Village neighbourhood. A lovely early Summer evening was made even more so by our entire dining experience at this cosy French bistro. For starters, our party of four enjoyed a selection of three Cheeses with Honeycomb, Celeriac and Gruyere Croquettes (fantastic), and Baguette with house-made butter; for our mains we enjoyed Mussels Provencal, Salmon, Scallops and the best and most tender grilled Pork Chop ever; our desserts were a Basque cake, Vanilla Maple ice cream and Chocolate ice cream. Everything was superb, well-prepared and expertly presented. Our server was delightful, very friendly and helpful and she brought our selections to the table at a leisurely pace that was greatly appreciated. Everything was perfect. We would happily return to, and would highly recommend, LeSud on any visit to Chicago.

My wife and I met some friends here in early December and were very pleased. My wife and I an arrived early so we could spend some time at the 2nd floor bar and experience the wine menu, let me tell you we were impressed. Our bartender had a very good grasp of what the wines were and did a wonderful job describing them, we were almost sad when our table was ready. Our disappointment was short lived when we ordered the cheese plate and house made bread for starters, both were delectable. I had the wood roasted chicken, which was tender, succulent and flavorful. My wife order the pan roasted duck breast, our friends had the bouillabaise and seared pumpkin & fregola. All meals were delicious, we had a great time letting each other taste our meals. Can't wait to go back in the New Year!

This is a very local community driven reataurant that ROCKS!! Love the people the food the atmosphere and the neighborhood. If you want a true local chicago experience, this is the place you need to visit and make it part of your trip or local hang out. It is truly special !!

This restaurant just opened last week and what a wonderful addition to the Chicago restaurant scene it is. We arrived without a reservation and they gave us the option to wait a half hour or sit in the bar. We opted for the bar which was a lot of fun. We talked a lot to the bartenders and the Manager. They are so excited and happy with the restaurant. The food was excellent. We split three dishes and none disappointed. I know this is going to be a very successful place and I am so thrilled to have this so close to my house.

It seems the norm these days to spend a lot of money at a restaurant that seems promising, only to have a lackluster meal. This was the case with Le Sud. The fish was just okay, as was the chicken and the duck. The happy hour cocktail was sufficient. Service okay, but thought it strange there was no wine tasting and doesn't the knife go on the right side of the plate? Yeah, picky--but when you spend 60 bucks on a bottle of wine and $250 on the meal....

Love the food and the atmosphere at Le Sud. The outdoor seating area is beautiful and indoors is warm, cozy and quaint. I especially enjoy the happy hour. As far as city parking there is plenty available on the street so not a headache to park.

This spot is really good for special occasions. I mentioned we were coming for our anniversary when I reserved. We got special menus with our names on them and a free half glass of prosecco to start. We both ordered fish and they were wonderful. The waiter was great very solicitous and knowledgeable. Then we got a free delicious chocolate lava cake (with a candle) for dessert. Every staff member seemed to know it was our anniversary.

We meet another couple every few months, and this time we tried Le Sud. I had been wanting to try the restaurant for quite some time, and we were able to get a table during the week. The wine/cocktails were good, but not extraordinary. Our meals were all good, but again not extraordinary. My wife ordered steak frites with a temperature of medium/medium-rare. The steak arrived extremely rare so she sent it back to the kitchen. When it was served the second time, the temperature was very rare at best. She ate around the edges, but it was certainly not what we expected. I like my steak medium rare, and it was too rare for me. I'm hoping we just had an off night considering many other reviews are very positive.

I went her with my daughter and her family, including young children. We sat on the enclosed patio which was comfortable with heaters. We got here before 5:30pm & so could get some drinks at discounted/ happy hour prices- we got two white wine glasses (very good Italian) and a beer. We shared the fried cauliflower and brussel sprouts appetizers and the Harvest salad and grilled chicken pesto penne and Mediterranean baked salmon. All the food was delicious. Service was great. We ordered mac & cheese and buttered noodles for the children which they enjoyed. They also brought us some crayons & paper for the children. We passed on dessert.

I went to Le Sud for restaurant week to give it a try. For starters their wine list is great and their sommelier was incredibly helpful in guiding us through their reserved list. I would highly recommend giving it a glance, I know it can be intimidating but really the prices for these wines weren't bad at all. On top of the standard restaurant week choices we also tried their charcuterie and cheese plates which were both really really good.

We had heard good things about this restaurant and decided to try it. I am not an expert on French food, but found the items we tried to be quite tasty

We frequently eat at this resaurant and it never disappoints. The food is excellent, the atmousphere is great and the staff are always so nice and helpful.

My husband and I decided to visit Le Sud in Roscoe Village having heard wonderful reviews. We had a wonderful evening!! I cannot tell you how wonderful the food was! We started with drinks and a Charcuterie Plate with a fresh, warm baguette!! I cannot even tell you how wonderful that was! I than had the best grilled trout ever and my husband’s smoked pork chop was literally perfection. Top it all off with homemade sorbet/ice cream and shortbread cookies and you have the perfect meal. The vibe, the service, the atmosphere is cozy and fun! You will not regret a visit to Le Sud!!

Authentic French cooked and presented with flair. Interesting and fairly priced wine service, mostly French but some fine New World selections too. We were a table of 4 and shared every dish served. Tried a lot of the menu and everything was delicious. A little far from Michigan Ave, but worth the trip. Especially if you want a nieghborly vibe.

We went with our family including grandkids to the Santa special dinner. The grands go to Audubon Elementary so we also liked the idea of contributing to the school. We were all delighted with the food, decorations and service.

Delicious food, wonderful service, and a beautifully decorated room for the holiday season. We will return!

This is a wonderful restaurant with super friendly service and excellent food. We sat outdoors for a birthday dinner. The details of them printing a custom menu with Happy Birthday to the guest was nice. All the appetizers were fantastic. The barramundi was the best entree. They also gave us a free birthday dessert

We went during the week, because we could not get in on a weekend. Atmosphere was very nice. Our waiter, who was French seemed to know the menu very well, even though they were only open 1 month. I still sent him to the kitchen to check, since I can't eat garlic. I had the pork chops and they were the best I have tasted. My husband had steak, which was good, but not exceptional. The waiter checked back to make sure things were going well, even with pats on the shoulder.

Such a cute restaurant with the best service in the city! I went in on a Thursday by myself and the staff were just lovely. Best octopus I’ve had in the neighborhood

Wonderful restaurant. Great food and atmosphere and the staff are fantastic. So glad to have them in our neighborhood!

We just recently moved to Roscoe Village and love having dinner this restaurant so close by. We’ve been many times and never been disappointed. Highly recommend the Pork chop, Escargot, Duck Breast, and Bouillabaisse. And don’t skip the Homemade Bread Service. We’re very excited to try the new menu once it changes over and for the rooftop patio to open. Definitely give this place a try!!!

What a pleasant dinner! Outside patio , on a perfect evening with great food. The appetizers were delicious. Had shrimp, beans, mussels, croquettes and polenta. One was better than the next. Yummy!!! The pork chops, cod, steak , and burger were excellent! Service friendly and informative. Will definitely return

Le Sud is a gem in Roscoe Village. I’ve dined several times and the food is excellent. Great wine selection and great service.

Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere of this cozy bistro that certainly placed you in a coastal town on the Mediterranean. The food was very well prepared by a knowledgeable staff and the service was fast, friendly, helpful and efficient. Loved the Spanish octopus, the escargot was creatively paired with bone marrow, however it didn’t work for us. The bone marrow was missing and what was left was dried to the bone. The escargot was dry and our opinion is a bit bias because we all prefer the escargot in butter and garlic, an A for effort though. A very nice find for us and is now on our list of “go to” French restaurants.

Save your money. There are so many better choices for French food in Chicago than this “corporate” restaurant. Besides the $3 warm baguette, the food was mediocre at best. Very limited wine list and s-l-o-w service. Unfortunate that they are tucked into a neighborhood as this restaurant concept would be better served in a high traffic tourist area. There’s nothing worth coming back for.

The server was really outstanding. The food was fine but I am rating it 2 starts because it needs to get your attention if you are concern about the following: 1. The website said that all the servers were wearing face masks ( we are now experiencing a surge of the Delta Covid variant. None of the servers were wearing a mask. 2. The chef must not really know the ingredients of the food (it appears they buy it elsewhere). We told them my husband could not have any dairy in his food. The server did his best to communicate to the chef but at the end, my husband had a reaction and he knows for sure, one of the dishes had dairy.

My wife and I recently were guests of friends at Le Sud. This charming French fusion restaurant is very cozy and not too loud and well lit. The service is very attentive without being overbearing. The Menu is not extensive but is varied and very tasty. I would particularly recommend the Octopus starter followed by the Parisienne Fettuccine, Provencal Rabbit Stew or the Honey-Glazed Duck Breast all of which were tasted and consumed. The wine list is mostly French but is OK and a good variety of prices. I look forward to a return visit when I next visit Chicago.

FINALLY there’s an excellent restaurant in Roscoe Village! We had a delightful meal and went with pure recommendations for both food and wine. We’ll be back for sure.

I visited yesterday the restaurant with my family. Food was really good I had scallops and were delicious! Prices are not that expensive and they have a good French wine list. Patio and restaurant are decorated in French/Provance style. They have a hamburger on their menu (According to my husband it was really good)
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant
I’ve eaten here three times, and my meals have always been excellent and in fact getting better each time. This is a creative take on southern French cuisine, though it often feels nationality-less. Preparation is always very creative and often original and no dish misses the mark. The trout, lamb, and bread service are all fantastic. It’s rather noisy and high energy, but upstairs is quieter. Service is personable and efficient.
