If you are looking for a restaurant with a great atmosphere and great food which is served quickly then tbis is the place for you. There are lots of staff who all look after you and there is no pressure to hurry up and leave. It is a small restaurant and you all sit close together but that all adds to the buzz. We visited with two teenage sons and it was perfect.

Wow! Really great Thai food. Delicious. Sizable meals - 4 of us shared 3 mains and it was more than enough. Extensive menu - almost a little too much to consider. Great atmosphere. Busy late into the night. Loses points for being extremely hot and stuffy. My party of 3 girls love being cosy but this was stifling. Open the door! Lastly as a side note - dodgy neighbourhood. Be aware of your surroundings.

Good Thai is easy to find, however GREAT Thai food is rare. After many recommendations, I finally took the plunge to try Lers Ros. The menu is eclectic (rabbit, alligator and quail are featured). Portions are HUGE, and, as typical with many Thai places, one entree can easily be shared by two people. We started out with a deep fried chicken and curry puff with peanut dipping sauce and tiny cucumber salad on the side. It was good, but not great. The Tom Kha Gai soup was spot-on and was easily the best dish of the night. The pot was enough for four people or an entree for one. I ordered the Lers Ros combination plate. It was a papaya salad with BBQ chicken and sticky rice, however, I substituted the rice for flat noodles. The papaya salad was SO spicy that I couldn't taste the papaya or anything else for that matter because of the chilis and it was drenched in a pool of the spicy dressing. Kinda disappointing; there should have been a flavor explosion happening here. The BBQ was a huge serving (1/2 a chicken), but I was expecting perhaps a Thai BBQ. But no, it was simply a grilled chicken; nothing to write home about, but still a great deal for only $17.95. We had to ask for water once, which was ironic since the serving team was walking by our table every minute or so and because the spices were so intense that it had us gobbling up water. They could have just left a pitcher of water at the table. I'll probably return and just order the Tom Kha Gai.

Everything on the menu was very good, however a little on the spicy side, so beware if you are dining with folks who cant tolerate spice this may be the wrong choice.

This place is authentic and offers a great variety of Thai foods. Its a small place that is loud (on our day there was live Thai music which we enjoyed, but made it harder to talk). Service was quick and friendly. The Beef Salad was AMAZING, the flavor on the beef was soo goood. The chicken curry was not good. The Shrimp soup was excellent. Also had the sausage appetizer which was good and different.

After walking down a slightly doggy street and ready to do a walk by incase something seemed off , it turned out to be my best meal in Frisco. Having eaten in many Thai palace through CA it had good Thai food, served in an authentic style, very good service and something genuinely calming about the place without any props even though fully crowded. The meal was very reasonable given the quality.

One gets the sense there must be tension between the servers and management. All of the former are young, SE Asian women; it took a long while for them to warm up to us. Regardless, the service is very good. We picked some daily specials to start. The curry puffs, with accompanying sauce, are heavenly. We always sample pad thai; theirs is likely the best we've had (not that we claim to be Thai food connoisseurs, though we know what's good). Menu item 62 (Pad Kra Prow Moo Krab) seemed to be popular with several servers, so gave it a go. This dish is exceptional, but we're talking pork belly MAX — take a handful of statIn tablets before ordering it 😉 The interior of this eatery is surprisingly charming; if you're sensitive, sit away from the windows. This is not the most savory part of town, and life on the street can get gritty; it did while we were there (though we were never at risk).

A few years ago, Lers Ros was featured on Check Please, Bay Area and ever since, there's been a well deserved buzz about this place. I would have liked to have discovered it just before the boom, because for the past few years, there have been people lining up early to eat here. There's a phenomenal wine list, by the glass or bottle. The food is fresh, perfectly spiced and very special. My wife joked that she's just as happy at the plain ole' Thai place down the street from us in the Mission, which is significantly cheaper. Still the prices at Lers Ros are not the lowest, as some reviewers may have indicated. We managed to spend almost $100 for the two of us to eat and have each a glass of wine. Typical for the city, but unusual for Thai. I wouldn't say, though that Lers Ros is your typical Thai food. I feel we hit it at a strange time, or maybe just the success is going to their heads, because, while we were seated at the bar, immediately during a crowded weekend night, we felt constantly rushed to decide from the dozens of menu items on the authentically Thai menu. That's always a little disappointing, to be rushed, especially at the semi-inflated prices they're charging. So that detract from the service. We have their clear version of assorted seafood soup. The broth was spicy and exquisitely seasoned as only the authentic Thai seasonings can: galanga, lemon grass, thai peppers, and lime juice. The papaya salad was among the best we've had, ordered plain. The tiny riblets were amazingly flavorful and the beef with peanut sauce over spinach made a phenomenal to go dish we enjoyed late night in bed. I highly recommend, and would like to try the one in Hayes Valley, maybe on a less busy night, if one exists.

Fantastic Thai food, excellent service, I've only seen the place being busy, also lot's of Asian people, which is a good sign.

First, this place is in a very skechy area so be careful and yes, the menu consists of different dishes than other ordinary Thai eateries but, it was not that impressive. Portions are quite small for the price. Most of all, they will watch your table like a hawk and try to take away the plate as soos as the food is almist gone. But, you ARE still eating!!It felt like either the waitress wanted to look like they were working or trying to have you eat fast and clear out. When I mentioned it to the counter, the waitress stared at my son with really dirty look. She did not have guts to look at me. I had such an unpleasant dinner experience that I would not recommend this place.

We decided to go for a Thai meal during our stay in San Francisco and checked trip advisor and decided on Lers Ros. What a great choice. People were queuing out the door when we got there but we were seating at the time of our reservation. The portions are big and he food was fresh and really delicious. We had sweet and sour pork, which was lovely and a chicken dish rice. There were 4 of us and our bill was 65 dollars! We were amazed. The quality of the food was excellent. The service was efficient and friendly. The area itself is a bit run down but this is clearly a well known restaurant and I can see why. A really excellent meal.

We had walked by the night before and saw a huge line up. We decided to try it out the next night, our last in San Francisco. I only wish we had discovered it sooner. The food was absolutely incredible! Our food was served promptly and was piping hot. The portions were large, and the prices were reasonable. On top of the great food, the service was outstanding! The next time we go to San Francisco, we will definitely go back.

Get here early, it fills up fast - don't worry about being a blue hair. You can always head over to The Olive afterward for an after-dinner drink. The menu has so many great choices. We had and would recommend the meatballs as appetizer, the house special boar and any of the shrimp dishes. Their wine list runs the gamut in prices, but staying on the reasonable side would not hurt you. We had a $27 bottle of Grenache which worked great with the food. Our server was attentive and helpful.

I came here to try their crispy pork that has been said to taste similar like Pa Ord in LA. People got it wrong though. Lers Ros' crispy pork had its own taste and way of being served in our table. I had the pad see ew which tasted great also. The restaurant was already crowded even before dinner time, so better come early to enjoy their delicious Thai dishes.

Called here last night after reading other reviews and we both had sweet n sour chicken. Average size portions but the sweet and sour was really salty. Plates were taken from the table almost as soon as we had put our cutlery down. Waitress dropped the check on the table and then tried to take it 3 times while we were finishing drinks even though I hadn't put the money in. Really felt like we were being rushed out. Not up to the previous reviews at all.

We're from Holland and used to have a table for ourselves all night. Here they probably have 3 shifts per night? For me it's too quick: a bottle of wine in an hour :-( The food was really good! Enjoyed that but was a bit distracted by the noise. Db 80: That's like an airplane getting off.....

Friend recommended this little place so we popped in for a late lunch. VERY simple accommodations, seating is a stool. but food was outstanding, and service just superb.

This place hands down had the best thai I have ever eaten. My cousin and I were staying just around the corner and decided to venture out after the bar tender recommended it and I couldn't have been happy we went. They made adjustments to our liking and it was so yummy!!! Wish they had it in Australia so I could eat it all the time :)

The best thai food in San Francisco. No reservations but excellent delicious food with great friendly service and good value though portions could be a little bigger.

Overall we felt this was a good dining experience. Extensive menu, friendly service, casual dining atmosphere. Prices were a bit on the high side for Thai, but it's a popular spot close to downtown. The food was both very good and mediocre. The som tam (papaya salad) was tasty. Nam tok kor moo yang (BBQ pork neck salad) was excellent. Rice -- both sticky & regular -- was cooked perfectly. However, the gai yang (BBQ chicken) was dry and lacked flavor. It was also served with sweet chili sauce instead of a traditional zesty nam jim (BBQ sauce). The beef balls on a stick were dried out (overcooked?) and came with similar sauce to the chicken (as in Thailand). We arrived early (6'ish on a Thursday) and there were plenty of tables. It did fill up quickly. We'll go back again and try some other dishes to see if the food quality is more consistent.

We arrived early because part of group was going to the symphony. We had a 5:30 reservation and we were seated immediately. The service was prompt and very friendly. Any questions were answered and we ordered our dinner. They have a regular menu as well as some specials. We ordered some of both and we were all pleased with the food and service.

I've heard of this restaurant from a local TV station, which received great reviews. The family and I decided to take a trip and try it out. The food was AWESOME. The service was good. We received our food within mins of ordering. We had the pad thai, pork belly, and the steamed sea bass. I would definitely recommend this to everyone. The only thing I didn't too much care for was just the location of the restaurant, other than that everything was great.

Got a late reservation here based on wanting to try something different, and we were glad we went. The food was outstanding. The restaurant is small and on the Chinatown area. The starters were very big, as were the mains. The highlights were the prawn pad thai and red thai curry, both of which were exceptional. A must if you like thai food and are in the area.

We just wanted something quick and something that was delivery since we just got into the city from a long flight. The food was amazing! Especially the pork belly.

Went here on a business trip after multiple people recommended it. I'm a huge fan of Thai food (especially after reading Andy Ricker's Pok Pok) and until now, thought the only great "authentic" Thai food was to be found in Vegas (at Lotus of Siam) and Pok Pok. Wrong! This place is legit -- with all your standard and non standard fare! We had the duck larb, thai sausages, and cashew chicken -- all were amazing, but the duck larb was exceptional! Can't wait to come back and try more next trip!

Just had a dinner at Lers Ros, and it's with mixed feeling, I had a green chicken curry, which was Ok'ish, but too many carrots, my youngest daughter ordered a yellow chicken curry, which was ordered MILD, it came in "hot" and my daughter couldn't eat it, my oldest daughter had a chicken noodle soup and was pretty happy about and my wife some chicken and rice and was OK with the food as well. So overall OK'ish. But it's too expensive compared to what you get for your money. A very positive thing was the service, very sweet and polite service.

Close to the civic center. Delicious, fresh no-nonsense lunch-time Thai plates. Quick, friendly service. Even during the busy lunch hour, never had to wait. This would be a five star review if not for the salad dressing on for the lunch plate special. It is way too sweet! Please change this dressing. I eat at the restaurant all the time with friends/co-workers and decline this salad because of the dressing. We keep telling the staff but are never offered alternatives! We also see other folks not eating their salad because of this. Lers Ros, I absolutely love your restaurant and would eat there every week if not for the salad dressing. When we want salad with our lunch, we go elsewhere. ;-(

So upset 😕 I really wanted to eat here. Nice menu, nice server, and nice ambiance. We left because my husband went to the bathroom with a cook who did joy wash his hands! Ugh! Ruined it for us!

Absolutely amazing thai food in San Francisco. Ate there several times while visiting, both in the restaurant and as delivery. Food is very reasonably priced and tastes incredible. Staff is very friendly. Definitely a popular place to eat.

I was told by Google and TripAdvisor that this is the best Thai restaurant in San Francisco and here I am. "Lers Ros" means "excellent taste of the food." The place is pleasantly lively. I ordered the most popular, 62) Pad Kra Prow Moo Krob (Stir-fried pork belly with crispy rind and Basil leaves) and my favorite, 37) Kang Phead Yang (Duck Red Curry). Both dishes are done quite right. Their services were very quick. Thai iced tea to finish. One catch is that its neighborhood is not so good.

I had lofty expectations for Lers Ros, since it's lauded as the best Thai in SF. However, I was a little disappointed after eating there. I came with my wife and my parents, as they were visiting from out-of-state. While my dad and stepmom enjoyed their meals, my wife and I were not as impressed. I had the Pra Ram Pak, which tasted good, but just didn't have the "it" I was hoping for and expecting. I'd probably give it another try, but with lower expectations.

This is my favorite Thai Restaurant, I´ve been there 3 times by now. The Service is immaculate and always fast. The menu is inspiring with lots of new ideas and items. The place fills up very quickly after 7 pm, hence arriving a little bit earlier is recommended.

The food here is really good: authentic, adventurous, and bold. And I say that in comparison to Thai food I have had in New York, where I live, and Thailand, where I have traveled many times. Why not five stars then? Well, the neighborhood, especially after dark, is not appealing. And the restaurant itself is crowded and too noisy for conversation.

I am not an expert on Thai food especially hailing from the Midwest. I've always enjoyed trying new things, and this menu did not disappoint! I asked a young man who was waiting to be seated what he would recommend, and he said the pork sparerib appetizer (kra duk moo tod). These were quickly devoured, and the spicy sauce on the side was perfect. I decided to stick with something lighter and ordered one of the noodle soups. I surprisingly ate almost the entire bowl! It was very tasty. My friend ordered one of the curry dishes and commented on the decent amount of spice. I wish I had room at the end of the meal to try dessert but it just wasn't in the cards. This was not a disappointment and I enjoyed wandering through a slightly unsavory neighborhood after dark!

As with every wannabe upscale Thai restaurant, one has to ask, is there any substance to its claim to be a cut above the rest. With Lers Ros, there isn't. Service was inept and incooperative; when I requested for catfish in my curry (a normal request in a Thai place), I was refused, and what I got instead, was no different except in price from similar dishes elsewhere. The stools instead of normal chairs are uncomfortable. The so-called ambiance is not tht great despite the place's popularity. I'd rather go to a run of the mill Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, Thai restaurant owners have finally picked up on the popularity of the cuisine among the SF hipsters, and the quality/price ratios have been plummeting.

Located in maybe the poorest SF neighborhood "Tenderloin" you might rethink your decision to visit this restaurant, but the food is worth 2-3 blocks of quick walk. Tried fired frog & shredded green papaya salad. Both were delicious. Will definitely return.

Snagged a walkin table at 8pm. Lucky as a line around the block formed as we were seated. Outstanding service. Noise level incredible, augmented by hiphop music. Food very good. 2 people shared thai curry puffs ( like empanadas with a vegetarian paste filling served with delicious spicy-sweet peanut sauce), duck salad (chopped lean duck, basil, cilantro, onions, cracked pepper, peppers, viniagrette) and ovovegetarian pad thai (a little stickier than usual). Sticky rice desert with durian an acquired taste. loses a star for noise level.

Unless you really don't like Thai style food, this place is excellent. The reasons I didn't hit 5 points first: - We booked, but still ended up waiting 40 minutes to be seated. Not sure they quite understood the concept of booking, but there were 14 of us. It was worth the wait - Delivery was a bit slow. Ok, again, 14 of us, but we had people who were just getting their main course as the others were finishing theirs. The good points: - Once seated, staff were attentive and fast to fill more drinks orders, answer questions and explain things to the more difficult members of the party (two of us have restricted diets) - Pleasant unassuming surroundings - Fantastic range of food, something for everyone - Surprisingly ordinary prices for the area, and very good for the quality - Some unusual dishes, without being over-hyped (For the English, it's unusual to see alligator, wild boar, frog, etc, on a menu without some form of emphasis that this is a special thing) And the most important point... They can cook. The food was excellent. Even the people in the party who don't usually do Thai were delighted.

Big variety of food, very nicely prepared, fresh and clean ! The personal were very kind and trying to please everybody! However take care with the spicy things, since for them a little spicy, mean a bit more for the ones that are not used to it. It is not a negative thing, it is more an advice ! I will definitely go back and eat there if I am in San Francisco !

Great food, spicy upon request, reasonably Thai as well. Staff was quite friendly, but the sports on the screens took away some of the charm of the place.

We walked from our hotel to this restaurant as we found this on Yelp with reasonable reviews. The location is a bit sketchy (so we don't recommend walking there), however, the food and the service were both well worth it. Highly recommend the green curry and seafood soup.

The food is actually worth the sketchy area and the terrible service... despite making a reservation we had to wait for 40 minutes. Food came out of the kitchen sporadically and not in the order that we asked for. Servers didn't seem to care. Having said that, the food itself is excellent. Very good Thai curries, crispy quail, larb salad, crispy whole fried fish and more.

This beat Slanted Door in our book! Such good food, fresh ingredients, nice use of herbs. The larb was excellent. The basil was just the right amount in the dishes. It was a nice place for lunch (not the best area to walk through, but worth it). Everything we tried was perfectly spiced (a little spicy, but good). A local recommended it, and it shows! So, you don't have to trust me, you can trust him!

This place has LOTS of great items on the menu and all that we had tasted yummy (and like they should if you'd ordered them in Thailand). Staff was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere trendy yet cozy. On the night we were in (a Tuesday night) the place was about 2/3 full but very hot and quite noisy. In sum it should have 5 for the food and 3 for the rest.

We lucked out by having a private-ish table but don't go to eat here for the atmosphere--- the food was amazing! Very spicy, which we loved but the crowds and groups of people hanging by the door were a bit of a turnoff. We did have reservations, but still waited about 5 minutes.

The best Thai food I've had in the USA! Only in Thailand have I had anything to equal the food at Lers Ros Thai. The service, from a huge staff of young, well-trained, uniformed and attractive Thai servers-- all of whom spoke good English, was phenomenal. The only negatives are the noise level (loud,) the fact that's in an unattractive location (the seedy, down-and-out, Tenderloin neighborhood,) and the banal atmosphere. Don't go there if you want the latter, as it's not fancy or elegant. That said, Lers Ros Thai IS comfortable and it's aesthetically pleasing. Not in the kitschy, gaudy way of so many Thai places in the US. Do go there for the restaurant's outstanding food and service! First rate on both. I had just two dishes and they were perfection: a Green Papaya Salad with Grilled Prawns to start and a classic, Pad Thai with Prawns. As in authentic places in Thailand, the level of "hotness" is up there. I asked for "medium" on the Pad Thai, but didn't ask on the salad. I needed two beers to put out the fire in my mouth! Lers Ros Thai now has three branches in SF, in just five years. I went to the one on Larkin, the original location, as it was an easy walk from the Hotel Nikko where I was staying. All I can say is "run" don't walk there, if you want to experience incredibly good, fresh, Thai cooking. It's a total find!

Went there to eat with a friend. The food is very good, device is quick and the staff is sympathetic.

We dropped by for lunch and the place was pretty packed, not full house though. We ordered pad thai, tom yam soup and crispy pork belly, which comes with rice. I would say all three dishes were great but what impressed me the most was the crispy pork belly dish! Avoid this dish if you dont fancy a little bit of pork fat here and there though! The menu is really extensive so if I have a chance to come back to SF, I would definitely pay Lers Ros Thai a visit again!

I've been here several times before they remodeled and the new look has a modern red and grey color scheme with food related quotes painted on the walls. A long communal table (a bad trend) is on one side of the room; uncomfortable backless stools make for a quick meal and not something to linger over. Came here for lunch and had the pork larb, ordered spicy, and it wasn't; but, it was good, but a little heavy on the fish sauce. Pad Kee Mow, spicy flat noodles had a very generous amount of beef and surprisingly more beef than noodles. Well seasoned, but a bit on the oily side. The green papaya salad with raw crab was very authentic and the seasoning was very well balanced. Service was very attentive with 3 servers all taking care of me. The menu was quite extensive with a surprisingly amount of game: venison, rabbit, frog. Will come back when I have a more adventurous dining partner.

I was most impressed with the variety of the menu, the portions of the food, and the price was unbelievable.

This is a review of the site on 16th -- not sure TripAdvisor put me in the right place here! The noodle soup was excellent; and I understand everything else was as well! Be prepared, however, for super spicy food! There is no warning, no little numbers of stars on the menu; it comes spicey. It turns out my noodle soup was probably the calmest thing. It was amazing food. However, the sound barriers in there are terrible -- it was incredibly noisy. I was there with a party of ten, and you had to talk to the person next to you the entire meal. But if you want authentic spicy Thai, go for it, and save your conversation for afterwards.

Very good, but in a city with tons of great food, not worth a expecial trip. Gets a ton of hype but I dont think it lives up

Some of the best Thai food we have had for quite awhile. Best dishes we had were duck curry, beef salad, and sticky rice with mango dessert. Restaurant is very casual. Seating mostly consists of long plank tables where you take a seat amongst many other diners. We would recommend you make a specific reservation for a table along the wall. We had a reservation but chose to wait an additional 30 minutes so we could have a bit more privacy at our taBle. It was our anniversary! This location is in the Tenderloin in San Francisco which will put some off. Drive, take a cab, or be prepared for the street scene of homeless. We would go back as the food was very good but we would lower our expectations in terms of service and ambiance. It is very busy, lots of fun, never an empty table, a great place to go with a of friends!

We ate at the 16th St location. It was fabulous. Wonderful service by the wait staff. Quaint little restaurant. The price and size are reasonable. We had chicken and pork Pad Kee Mow for $12. They have adult beverages. They will accommodate spice in your dish.

Really good food, large portions that were spicy but got cold quickly. Appetisers were very tasty. Decor and seating were 'urban' and not comfy, I think this is almost Thai fast food. Service was great. Recommended but not a special place for a romantic dinner by any means. They lose one point for the quality of the chicken - lots of very small, grainy pieces. I prefer it slightly bigger.

This Thai restaurant is fantastic! The menu is HUGE and everything we tried was delicious! There are 3 locations in San Francisco. The one on Larkin is in the Tenderloin so take appropriate precautions.

The search for the best Thai food continues. Had a lunch date scheduled but she never showed(I wasn't surprised) so I was on my own for lunch. So it goes...Had Lers Ros on my radar and made it in just before lunch as the place filled up very quickly. Ample seating to serve the lunchtime crowd with City Hall and other offices close by. Lers Ros is open from 11 am to midnite with free delivery from 4 to midnite with a $15 minimum and online at lersros.com. Probably a good idea to look over the menu before hand The menu is huge with all listings in Thai and cursive. Be efficient and wise with your time. Actually forgot what I ordered but I'm sure it was something relatively simple. The neighborhood can be a little sketchy especially at night so be aware of your surroundings. With menus in hand now, I'll be better prepared for my next visit but usually my rule of thumb is if I can't pronounce it, I probably won't order it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Visited here for dinner after finding out another restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for dinner and with it having such rave reviews it seemed like a good bet. Had tried to book online but the reservation hadn't been confirmed so had to call. The restaurant looks really nice from the outside but is more akin to a school canteen inside, with long communal benches, and very little space. It was very noisy, the music was way too high that I could barely hear what my husband sat opposite me or any of the waitresses were saying. The seats were wooden stools, they were really uncomfortable even with my jacket folded up underneath me because there was no where to hang it. The service was chaotic; I asked a waitress if she could give us an extra couple of minutes to decide and she never came back so someone else had to take our order. None of our dishes came out at the same time, and plates were snatched away within seconds of you putting your fork down so you need to be sure you're definitely finished! The veggie rolls and chicken satay were tasty but the mains were incredibly average - no real kick to them and they were lukewarm so went cold quickly (particularly my husband's rice which had come out on its own and was sat waiting for the rest of the main - see above!) I know tipping is the norm in the US but I genuinely begrudged leaving it because neither the service or food had been deserving of it. This place is ok for a quick lunch, would not recommend for dinner due to the above and also because it is in the Tenderloin area (which we learnt when we got back to our hotel is one of the worst neighbourhoods in SF).

Despite being located in a sketchy neighborhood [Tenderloin], this is truly a neighborhood gem with terrific Thai food. We went here upon the recommendation of our hotel. Great portions and inexpensive. Seating is communal--so be prepared to be sitting next to strangers. While we were there, they played both EDM music and then changed to an authentic Thai group playing live music. I found the experience of Lers Ros to be truly unique in food and atmosphere.

I believe this is the best Thai food in SF Bay area. Another great place is Old Weang Ping in Oakland (probably the 2nd best). Must order the pork shoulder appetizer, amazing flavor in such thin slices! Also, the BBQ chicken, duck larb, the sausage appetizer and their whole fish in sauces are incredible. Everything is greet, crispy pork belly is very good. If you like Thai in the least you must go here. The one on Larkin in the Tenderloin is their best one. Do not park too far away and you are fine. Very nice inside and very popular. Excellent and gracious service. Also great for takeout.

We do NOT have great Thai back home -- it's only American Rainbow Curry type so when I head here I always make sure I get some creative Thai food, and Lers Ros never fails! This time I had a larger group -- so we got to try more things! Yay! We had the Thai Curry Puffs -- ok, honestly .. these were just "ok". Nothing at all wrong with them, but certainly not worth a 4000 mile trip for. Serviceable. However, the next two dishes were what I came for! The Northern Herb Sausages and Roast Pork Shoulder appetizers. The sausages , which I only had one before in Vegas at Lotus of Siam -- were just amazing. Like an SE Asian version of Spicy Italian sausages! And the roast pork -- omg! A nice layer of crispy skin and a little fat and succulent pork in a fish / chile sauce. Gone in no time! For mains we ordered : Crispy whole fish (trout), crispy pork belly, pad thai with chicken and shrimp, and finally duck larb as sort of a salad. Everything was devoured! The crispy pork belly won first prize as overall favorite, followed by the duck larb. The pad thai was lauded for how amazingly different and delicious it was compared to almost all other "standard" makes. Not as sweet -- lighter touch of sauce. Best Pad Thai all my dinner compatriots said. And the fish was no slouch either! Perfectly fried fish with a perfectly spicy sauce to go with it! Winners around!

We ate here on a Saturday night with no reservation, so of course we had a small wait for a table, but the staff were incredibly attentive and seated us after about 10 minutes. We had the steamed fresh sea bass and a red curry chicken which were both delicious with the brown rice (try it instead of white rice-so much better!) the staff serve everything to you and we're very helpful getting the fish off the bone. The only drawback was the noise-it is a small but elegant restaurant and they have made efforts to control the noise, but conversations were very loud. All in all, highly recommend Lers Ros.

I have been to the other two Lers Ros and love their food. My favorite is the Hayes St. location. The acoustics was awful and between combination of the live music and the people talking, it was way too loud making it very uncomfortable. The food was salty and my friend returned one dish. The coconut soup was watery. This is supposed to be the best of the three. The service was good. The place was packed and a line to get in. No reservations. I ordered two of the same dishes I order at their other locations - not up to par. Maybe it was an off night - but the noise was so bad, I would not go back. They give good size portions and the food is reasonably priced.

While in San Fransico we happen to come across this restaurant while looking for a place to have dinner(the place we had originally planned to go too was closed). The food was excellent. The portions were very large. If we go again I think we will share a plate. The only negative was it was so loud! It was very difficult to have a conversation thus we didn't linger over dinner. I would recommend this restaurant just so people could taste excellent Thai food.

I stopped by for an early dinner before a concert. The restaurant was quite empty at 6 pm, but started to fill up soon after. There were many servers offering a warm welcome and quick and excellent service. I had the stir-fried pork belly with vegetables, succulent and abundant, accompanied by delicious brown rice, the recommendation of my server. Also a Thai iced coffee, large, rich and tasty. I saw a great variety of other dishes being served to other diners. It was a delicious dinner, and the tab was just $20 plus tip, without any wine or beer. Overall, a winner for an informal Thai dinner! The restaurant itself was modern and simple, but nice, and the area, while certainly not upscale, was OK. As they say, I shall return.

I met a friend at Lers Ros Thai for dinner tonight, and I was sorely disappointed with the meal. I ordered the yellow curry chicken and paid more for what was supposed to be the "larger" version of the dish, I got a few pieces of chicken drowning in a pile of under-cooked onions. Honestly, I've had better Thai food at the mall food court, and that costs half as much as my meal was at Lers Ros. There are so many better Thai options in the area; don't waste your appetite here.

We went here for dinner with the family on a weekend after shopping in nearby Union Square. The high reviews were what enticed us to come to this restaurant and while the food did arrive quickly, the vegetarian pad thai smelled and tasted fishy/eggy. When you enter the restaurant to wait, there is not much space and they have put a decorative vase with water right in the way (not a great design location). Seating is at long common tables and it is very crowded and noisy. There is only 1 toilet for mens and 1 toilet for women and they are very tight. Be careful in this area because it is in the tenderloin part of SF.

After checking various sites for Thai food in the area I decided to try lers ros. Very pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere waz very nice, good food, generous portions, reasonable prices. I would recommend and would return.

We really enjoyed our visit to Lers Ros. We had fish cakes for an appetizer and prawns with asparagus and a red curry for entrees, everything was outstanding.

We decided to eat dinner after reading all the reviews. The location is very small and even on a Thursday night you have to expect a wait of at least 20 minutes. While we were not disappointed we did also not leave that impressed. The flavors and presentation was good but I think you can get that at dozens of Thai places without the hassle you have to go through here and the money that you'll spend.

this simple clean thai restaurant boasted an impressive innovative menu and the most tasty Thai food I've enjoyed in years. we were three in our party each with individual food no-nos..gluten, shellfish, pork etc and we had an amazing meal.. come with a large group so that you can try many varieties on their menu. the staff was so helpful and made great suggestions. Terrific

Very spicy, wonderful service, very urban, that is noisy, so so setting, but most of all great food. Well worth a visit.

Every time we have family visited, we love to go to eat this restaurant. The food here very good , I love to order papaya salad.

Amazing experience. Very busy, line out the door but the staff efficiently turn tables over. Great food.

We went to this restaurant twice in a week as we really enjoyed the food. Didn't find it spicy at all, just savory. Excellent Phad Thai! The service wasn't the best however. Hostess was grumpy both nights, however it didn't stop us from coming back. Definitely phone for a reservation as they get many customers that go the the opera nearby and it is a small resturant.

We went there based on the trip advisor recommendations. Firstly, the neighbourhood where it is is not nice at all. The place was packed and we waited outside for a table for around 20min, very noisy and tables very near to each other. The service was also slow. Either way, the food was good but I am not sure if its a must go.

We came to this place for three times within one week. The food was good and the price is fair. The restaurant is always full of people during the lunch/dinner time. It's good that the restsurant close so late.

My friends and I keep trying the three different locations of Lers Ros Thai. While they are all simply amazing and flavorful, I think that the Larkin Street location is the best for ambience and cuisine. I don't know how they prepare their Tom Kha Gai, but I would love to sneak a peak to find out their secret for perfection of this amazing soup. Every dish has always been great, and if you're with a group, this is a great chance to share your dishes with one another and get a flavor extravaganza. Even friends from Thailand have told me it doesn't get any better. While we will always miss Suriya's, this has become our favorite place to eat in San Francisco.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday and luckily it wasn't too busy. Service was ok with good portions. Couldn't clearly understand our waitress though, had to ask her to repeat most of the time. Overall a good experience

We had the pleasure of eating at Lers Ros Thai today, and we were impressed. The menu was interesting, the prices was not high, and the staff was kind, professional and fast.. Then the food. I have eaten Thai food all over the world, including the US, and I have to say that I think this is the best one I have visited in this country. Well worth a try if you visit San Francisco.

Nothing fancy. Tucked away in a residential area on the outskirts of Nob Hill the food was actually very good. The Pad Thai was just the right balance of noodles, sauce and veggies. I had tofu with mine and was pleasantly surprised at the texture and flavor. We had a nice spring rolls for an appetizer. They were tasty and well proportioned. Food was satisfying and atmosphere was friendly.

With high expectations (because of the raving reviews and ratings) we made a reservation at this restaurant. Entering the venue immediately made our ears squeak. As many places so far in SF no-one thought of sound insulation. Very simple with padding under table tops, chairs and on ceiling. It was VERY loud. We had a hard time communicating with each other. Pour staff that has to work here every day... Anyway we ordered the recommended duck salad, we asked for medium spicy. The duck flavor was gone, too spicy and not well balanced as Thai can make salads. The mixed seafood looked more like mixed bell peppers and unions. It tasted OK, but not exeptional. Maybe invite passion back in the kitchen?

The environment is minimalist, but friendly. The food is outstanding, the menu EXTENSIVE, and the service was on point. My husband and I each had a glass of wine, an appetizer, an entrée with an added side of rice and topped it all off with a dessert for under $100. There is something for everyone: vegetarian/vegan, a wide array of meats including exotic offerings like boar, alligator, rabbit, frog and venison (in addition to other poultry and meats), and seafood! We practically had to roll ourselves out of there! The location is on the fringe of a rougher part of town, but with public transport and internet shuttle services at your fingertips, you really don't have to worry about it. We had no problems whatsoever! A+!!

We stopped in for a quick bite to eat just before going to the movies. They only seat full parties and the tables seem to turn very quickly so we had a very short wait. Start with the green papaya salad with the raw crab it is absolutely delicious, the veg egg rolls were fairly standard. We are family and the highlight of the main courses was the vegetables with peanut sauce on top. Our server was patient and helpful.

I heard about this restaurant through United Airlines and it worked out great. It is best to make a reservation since there is not much seating. The food is great and their Thai tea is awesome! This restaurant is in a sketchy part of town so I would recommend a cab to and from the restaurant not the bus or walking.

My wife and I were recommended to try this restaurant by the staff in the nearby Phoenix Hotel and we were delighted with everything about this excellent establishment - simple minimalist decor, really friendly staff and great food - I had rabbit which was delicious. This was on a par with some of the best restaurants we have visited on our numerous visits to Thailand. Our only regret - we were leaving San Francisco the next day so didn't get a chance to go back for more lovely food.

Great food, great service and great value. We enjoyed this restaurant all around and definitely recommend it. The only thing is the location. It is in Tenderloin, a not so great part of town. If you are going to travel there at night, take a cab. Otherwise, worth the visit.

I had never eaten true Thai cuisine before but Lers Ros Thai came highly recommended by a friend who lives in San Francisco who said it's some of the best Thai food he's ever had anywhere in the world. Needless to say, Lers Ros Thai had a lot to live up to. On a Sunday night the place was packed, with those waiting to get seats standing awkwardly at the front of the restaurant near the door. Just hope that when you are seated you don't get a table near the door because these waiting people will be literally standing right next to you while you dine. We ordered two appetizers and two main dishes to split among two of us. The Koh Moo Yang, with its grilled slices of pork shoulder was so tender and was perfect when dipped in the chili and rice powder sauce. The Nuer Tod (fried sun-dried beef) was delicious. Though the restaurant was busy our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. If you're looking for authentic Thai food in San Francisco, definitely give Lers Ros Thai a taste.

First time trying Thai and I was overwhelmed by the flavour of the dishes. On top of that the service of quite quick, great atmosphere and very accessible prices.

The Thai food at this restaurant was exceptional! The service was even better. Fortunately, we were seated quickly, and didn't wait long for our food to come out either.

I was visiting SF with my Thai girlfriend and she was wanting to have a truly authentic Thai meal. After she talked with many local Thai people, and per the concierge at the Four Seasons hotel , we kept hearing Lers Ros Thai as the best place to eat. It did not disappoint. The Northern Thai spicy sausage was excellent (first time I had it, but my girlfriend said it tastes exactly as it does back in Thailand). I had yellow curry. This was also excellent but I would have liked it spicier. Normally I order things extra spicy but I was afraid to do this in an authentic Thai restaurant, but next time I go I will order as I normally do. If you like hot and spicy, don't be afraid to order it that way. The papaya salad was fantastic. Also, for dessert we had the dreaded durian "stinkiest fruit in the world" on sticky rice and it was, first of all not terrible to smell, and secondly tasted marvelous (as its reputation states as well). Also we had Curry Puffs as an appetizer-delicious! All the staff we talked with were Thai which made my girlfriend very happy as well. It's like a gastronomical trip to Thailand without leaving the states. Oh, and compared to so many other SF restaurants, VERY inexpensive.

This place is crowded. The food is quite average (the noodle soup was bad, the poultry and pork was better) and very much adapted to local taste. Almost no spicy food in there. Average age is probably below 24.

If there's one thing you should expect from a Thai restaurant, it's flexibility with their menu. Most restaurants would prepare your curry or noodles with what you want and the way you want, even if slightly off the menu. So, if you want a pumpkin curry with duck and it's off menu, just ask for it, and if the duck's in the kitchen, there's no reason it can't be done. Not so at Lers Ros.I asked for a curry with catfish (which they had available for other dishes) and was refused. Ended up having the boring chicken pad thai as nothing else on the menu seemed interesting. Which ended up being average at best. The staff was a bit curt as well. The place is trying to be all trendy instead of focussing on the service and the food. There are very uncomfortable stools instead of proper chairs. Plates are all fancy but the portion sizes are on the smaller side. To me, only fancy restaurants should have smaller sizes, just so that you can focus on the taste. Lers Ros is not a fancy restaurant however hard it tries to be otherwise. With so many other Thai choices in the City, no excuse for being difficult and for the food not to be great.

Glad we asked our tour bus driver for a recommendation. He was right - amazing Thai food in an unexpected location. Were definitely surprised by the quality of the service, food and price. Added bonus - live music. It was a perfect meal.

My wife and I have been coming here for several years. A friend of ours who is Thai believes that Lers Ros has declined in quality. That may be, but it's still very good, at least for the non-purist. And still an utterly unique restaurant and menu. You can order alligator, for instance. I haven't ever experienced trouble with the service. The restaurant is sleek and very clean, in contrast to the seediness outside. If you go at night, be alert, but daytime visits are fine. You will see a few lost souls on the street, so you will want to meet friends at the bar and leave the sidewalk free for all to shamble, shuffle and stumble along.

We dropped in for a late lunch on our way to Asian Art Museum because Hayes Valley is more festive than the Tenderloin for lunch. Found the food average but service was inexplicably poor. We were pretty much neglected before, during and after our meal. When we asked for the appetizer to be brought first, we were told everything is delivered when it is ready. Seems like our request could have been granted with a two sentence conversation between wait staff and kitchen. Had to wait to order and then had to wait a long time to pay. Only possible explanation is they had a busy lunch rush and everyone was on break by 2 pm.

We ate here with our 6 yr old grandkids and had a great dining experience. The food was very tasty and not too hot. We had a variety of dishes and all were good. The kids learn to eat with chopsticks with some help of our fantastic waitress. All of the staff were very attentive even though it was reasonably crowded. Prices were fair- definitely

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you feel like you are in Thailand. They have menu written in Thai and waiters from Thailand. Ordered the traditional Thai green curry and Thai milk tea. Very authentic and delicious. Will come back again!

The food is good but the dishes could be more copious. Nice staff. The location isn't nice at night.

The food is pretty good, though not great. We were satisfied with our meals and the service was very good. Probably would not try it again, but it's a good deal if you're looking for fairly decent Thai food.

Yes ...yes the location is Tenderloin but in a way it is great that restaurants and other projects are moving in the location to revitalize the area... the first time I had lunch there I ordered a curry with eggplant and although the curry was delicious, the eggplant was literally raw.. I mentioned this to the waitress and she was taken aback. A minute later, I got a small bowl of curry with properly cooked eggplant... I was impressed that they actually listened to the customer and corrected the problem... I then visited again for dinner when it was jam packed and a different entree was again quite good... not disappointing at all... just a note of caution for the one with a very mild palate... curries are only served medium to spicy....

Went here because of the reviews and didn't disappoint. Stopped in for dinner before a show at Bill Graham just 3 blocks away. The larb was incredibly fresh and wonderful. The pork belly app was the highlight. Can't wait to return!

Everything was so good! I'd never tried Thai tea before- get it. It's delicious! I was embarrassed that I really wanted pad Thai, since they have such beautifully creative items available, but this blew any other pad Thai I'd eaten out of the water. Great service, too!

The wait on a Saturday night (9pm) was as to be expected a little long but I had no problems with that. We sat at the bar for faster seating, the service was good. The food just wasn't as satisfying as I was hoping. I ordered the Pad Kra Prow Moo Krob, stir fried-pork belly with crispy rind. The Thai curry puffs were a delicious appetizer and would recommend. Yummy!

Stick with chicken and Sake. it can get any better than that. The price is decent and the food is very good.

My wife and I eat thai more than I will admit and the Lers Ros is not any better than what we can get back home. I am not sure what I was expecting but it was just ok. The lunch menu came with a salad and was a good value. Service was very good and attentive. Lers Ros Thai is solid but not amazing like other reviews make it appear The location on the other hand is terrible. We left the moderate safety of downtown for a quick trip into the tenderloin. We were glad our kids did not ask questions on the way in or out. Have uber drop you off and pick you up at the door.

Turned out it was the 7th anniversary so it was a really busy night with loads of people, live music & free wine. The food was delicious! Only down side was they overcharged my credit card....pay in cash to avoid this.

Stayed nearby and visited for family dinner die to trip advisor recommendations. Staff were most friendly and really appreciated good manners. Maybe they don't hear please and thank you often?? The food was delicious maybe a little westernised. Had the pad thai and cashew chicken with rice. The kids loved the crispy chicken and fried rice. We couldn't decide on wine and they let us taste a few before we decided on a bottle. Had a tasty thai desert also. Recommended!

We ate here based on a local review, and it quickly became our favorite meal in San Francisco. We had a variety of appetizers and dishes, and everything was wonderful and so flavorful. Would definitely eat here again and again. It's a small restaurant and fills up quickly. We got there right when it opened at 11:00 on a Sunday, and it was full by the time we left. It's located in the Tenderloin, which is reportedly a higher crime area of San Francisco. We walked from our hotel in Union Square about 7 blocks away--our concierge said it would be fine to walk during the day. We felt comfortable, but you could take an Uber, as well.

Having read recommendations on this restaurant I think I set my sights too high. It is acceptable food but nothing special. The satay sauce was processed to the point of smooth peanut butter texture - yes this is the US but satay shouldn't be like this. The food just seemed to lack life and flavour and the essential balance of sweet, sour, salty and spicy that is expected from authentic Thai food. Perhaps the best in San Francisco but for those of us who live down under it is pretty average.

the food was very good. The atmosphere was very cozy. Don't be put off by the neighborhood, the food was very good. We would recommend this restaurant.

Our group of 13 was craving Thai cuisine. Food was delicious and was served fast! Everything was fresh and portions were big. Although the place is relatively small, the fast service keeps the place moving. Highly recommend!

I would go back again and again. There is so much to try and the preparations are are much more unique and tasty than your average thai restaurant.

My boyfriend and I went here having walked past the night before and seeing how busy it was (people were waiting on street). We had pork skewers to start which were delicious and probably not needed after we saw size of mains. My boyfriend ordered the pad thai which was huge and very filling despite only having a few prawns in it. My meal, sweet and sour pork, arrived a little later and was fresh but not really to my taste. Service was great and bill only $43 for entree, 2 mains and 4 beers.

Great options of Food that is delicious. Its like a diamond in the rough. You wouldn't pick to have nice places to eat in this neighborhood but his was really good.

Overall its worth the money in my opinion as I found the food to be well cooked and quite tasty. It's a bit small so it can get crowded and noisy fast but if you are not planning a special meet up it's fine

Maybe I'm not feeling generous today. Because, based on the food, this should be 5 stars. But the decor is just so retarded, that it detracts from the experience a little. Not dirty... just bizarre and disjointed interior design and layout. Pork leg rice plate totally off the hook... but very authentic. If you are squeamish about seeing some hairs protruding from slow-cooked pig skin... you would be put off. Tom Yum may be the best in the City on flavor of broth... but could use more variety of visible ingredients than mushrooms, lemongrass and shrimp. (there's certainly a hell of a lot more going on here... but that's all you can see.) Other location on Hayes street is also awesome, and decor is better. But it seems a little more expensive and the foodie crowd is ever-present.

We were on our way to another Thai restaurant in the City when our cab driver recommended this little gem. Doesn't look much from outside and to be honest the decor inside isn't too wonderful either. However, if its traditional Thai food you're after, this is a very good choice. Be careful tho, the main meal portions are huge and probably enough to share. Really enjoyed our food with the bonus of live Thai music.

Probably the best thai food I've had outside of Thailand. Try the crispy pork belly... amazing! Very busy restaurant with great atmosphere

For me, this was a real find. The location is surprising (Tenderloin District) and you have to wait a bit even with a reservation, but the food is wonderful. It's the kind of food you savor for hours afterward. The blend of spice with unusual taste sensations is super, provided your taste runs to spicy curries. We found the service pleasant and efficient, if a bit hurried, but the crowd is such that if they didn't fly around the process would be slow. There is even an acceptable wine list. I will certainly return when next in San Francisco.

I was seriously disappointed after all the outstanding reviews for this place. Bland, cold, long wait. I'll go elsewhere for Thai.

A surprising unique menu including a variety of exotic meats. Flavorful and authentic Thai cuisine that rivals Thai food I've had in Thailand. The Pad Kra Pow was filled with flavor and the Pla Rad Prik (fish covered in chilis) was crispy, spicy and had the perfect combination of spice and sweetness. The restaurant has modern decor and the service was outstanding.

I was with a group of 12 at a conference and made reservations over the phone. I was told to make sure we were there at least 5 minutes early or we could lose our seat. When we got there, we were impressed. While it was small inside, the restaurant was packed. The food was delivered without a long wait. The entire group was very pleased with their meals. Of course Pad Thai and Pad See Ew were great. We had a fantastic time and I would highly recommend because the prices were very reasonable.

We went there for lunch - the food was excellent. The lunch specials were really cheap - $9 for two small entree options, rice, and a starter salad.

We found this restaurant by chance, walking back to our hotel through the Tenderloin. It was a quiet night and we had no problem being seated immediately. Service was very attentive and the meal was wonderful. My wife ordered a coconut lemongrass soup that was more complex and flavourful than any version we had ever had elsewhere. That and a second dish and an app were way more than the two of us could finish. I only wish we could have taken a doggie bag back to the hotel! The menu was intriguing and the restaurant was very nicely decorated. If our stay had been longer, I would happily have returned.

The green curry with eggplant was the star for me closely followed by the som tom koong yang. The curry in particular was wonderfully complex. Would love to return many times to slowly work my way through the menu.

Food was amazing as was the atmosphere with excellent trance and progressive music playing which was a personal favorite for me! Do yourself a favor and try the weird menu items. For us, frogs legs were a highlight as was the five spice duck and everything else we ate was amazing. If you're not a huge chili/heat fan ask them to mild down the dishes as medium was borderline hot for me and I love spicy food.

Came here because it was impossible to get a bowl of ramen during the festival. Pretty happy that we came here! We had chicken and crispy pork larb, pork soup, pad see ew, pad thai and a fried chicken dish. Everything has a tangy lime taste and the service was fast. Be prepared to drink lots of water - very tasty but salty!

Pros: great food; huge portions Cons: really loud inside; they turn tables quickly so you feel rushed Our Uber driver told us about this place and said we had to try it -- and so we did. The food was good (and hot!), but it was really loud inside and the turn the tables so quickly, you feel rushed. Having said that, it was packed. We made reservations for 7pm and got right in, but within 15 minutes, there were people waiting for tables.

My significant other and I tried this restaurant one night while in san fran. Close enough walk from bart station. Delicious food and great atmosphere. Very reasonably priced. Red curry and pad thai....both wonderful!

Ok we are all always looking for that amazing hole in the wall place that combines amazing food with exceptional value in a quaint comfortable setting. Lers Ros offers 2 of the 3 above stated qualifications. The food is excellent the price is medium to extreme in terms of value and the setting is comfortable and basic. Located in a somewhat seedy section of town it is definitely a hidden gem

I went with two Thai nationals and they loved it! I, also, really enjoyed my plates: beef with lime and tofu with green onion/mushroom. Evidently, the style of food was from the Isaan section of thailan(northeast). One of the Nationals is a recognized Thai chef so take it from there! Was a great find in the tenderloin area.

Lucky to find this nice Thai restaurant. Location on Larkin in the Tenderloin district probably keeps it off the usual restaurant lists (Michelin, Gayot, Zagat). The setting is minimalist but the food is fantastic. Service was excellent and very friendly. The San Francisco "Eater" column picked Lers Ros as one of the top restaurants in San Francisco, and I credit them for directing us there.

Not your ordinary Thai. I had a blast just reading the menu. They used very original ingredients, the tastes of which stood out on their own and created an experience instead of the creamy usual curries you find at most Thai places. Loved it, wish there was one back home where I live. Prices were reasonable as well.
Pretty Good Thai food.
I decided to dine here after I saw is ad on a Virgin America flight. They have a very extensive menu of authentic Thai dishes. The upside of the night was that I had Yum Pla Duk Foo after 5 years ! The downside was that it was a tad bit too sour. The Tom Kha was perfect, but the Som Tum was not great. The price is pretty reasonable as well. Overall, a pleasant experience.
