Amazing food!

By Michele45030 |

The best soup dumplings I’ve had and the chicken and shrimp were some of the best food I’ve had in awhile. We were rushed as we didn’t know about needing reservations but they still found a seat for us. We’re from Houston but will come back to Austin to eat there!

Excellent dim sum experience!

By Jamie |

We went for dim sum on a Saturday for lunch while visiting Austin and it was incredible. We made a reservation which I recommend doing because it was really busy when we arrived. The staff were really accommodating to my group’s dietary needs including vegan and vegetarian dishes. The food was delicious. I particularly liked the steamed spinach dumplings and vegetable dumplings. I highly recommend this restaurant. The service was great and it was a nice atmosphere as well.

Delicious (but pricey)!

By rmogan |

I used to be obsessed with the dim sum brunch at Wu Chow, so when I heard that one of their chef's had opened up her own place specializing in dim sum I knew I had to try it. Lin has a nice cozy atmosphere, lovely front patio, and okay parking out back. The dim sum is, of course, absolutely amazing. I tried the soup dumplings, beef potstickers, and scallion pancake and it was all insanely tasty. The prices are a little high overall, and their dinner menu is even more expensive, but it's a fun place to treat yourself to every once in a while. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because of the prices and the service is a little slow.

My wife wanted to come here for her birthday

By Henry A |

My wife wanted to come here for her birthday dinner, and she made a good call. We’ve been to dim sum restaurants a bunch of times, but have never seen anything like the Shanghai soup dumplings before. I was pretty ticked when I bit into the first one, and it squirted liquid all over my shirt and pants. However, when a woman at a table near us did the exact same thing, I felt better. She did, too, when I told her I made the same mistake. Then we all had a good laugh. The service was impeccable. The service was prompt. The whole meal was very nice. We’d go back.

SOUP. DUMPLINGS.

By kennydb69 |

My wife and I loved Lin. The Shanghai soup dumplings were super delicious, and we’ll definitely be back for more. We also loved the fruit salad - delicious and refreshing on a hot Austin day. Service was great (thank you Robbie!), and we really enjoyed chatting with the owner Lin. She is super sweet. It’s a little pricey for lunch, but the atmosphere is really lively and pleasant. Two comments - parking is a pain, with only a few spots set aside for the popular restaurant, and we were disappointed that the kitchen was out of one of the dishes we wanted, even though it was only 1pm.

best Low Mien i've ever had

By Traveler K |

This spot is amazing, the service from the host to the server was outstanding. every food item we ordered was delicious. you should definitely try their hot green tea as well as their Chicken Low Mien. we will go back and definitely recommend this to our friends and family. thank you.

Real authentic Chinese food

By rblumen1 |

Went to lunch with our family, what a treat. We sampled the dumplings, and ordered the volcano shrimp, the generals dinner, and a variety of more dumplings. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent.

Take out during this pandemic

By Gary T |

We have done pick up from here twice during this pandemic. Both times they delivered contact less pickup, an easy order experience on the web, and packaging that had their delicious Dim Sum in our home and with the taste we had come to love when visiting. We had all our usual's both times which you can read about in my previous review. The amazing thing was there was no deterioration in the quality, taste or temperature of the food. They have figured out how to provide the same food in a pandemic and I'm really glad they are there.

Best Dim Sum in Texas

By scottiebumich |

Lin’s Asian Bar and Dim Sum Restaurant hasn’t been on Austin’s food scene for long, but this charming restaurant is already making waves. It’s a bustling spot attracting hipsters and traditionalists alike. In addition to dim sum they have a full menu of Asian-inspired dishes and and everything from the soup dumplings to desserts are handmade with the same meticulous attention to detail and passion for quality. What sets this place apart, aside from setting your taste buds into a frenzy, is the love and dedication Lin and her husband have for creating a space that honors traditional with a contemporary spin. There are stories behind many of the dishes and decorations that give a nod to Lin’s roots. In fact, much of the décor is sourced from Lin’s hometown in China like the intricate hand-painted umbrellas that adorn the entrance way and the delicate seaweed rice baskets in which “grandma’s rice” is lovingly served. Each dish is plated with the utmost care and consideration; no detail escapes this couple. A quiet, modest pride exudes from the husband-wife duo who source the ingredients locally, selecting the freshest and purest meats and vegetables. The quality of the ingredients shine as Lin cultivates complex flavors. It is clear that for her, cooking a labor of love. The dishes satisfy the stomach and the eyes; they are exquisitely plated, almost too beautiful to eat. Each dish we ordered was perfection; the airy cloud-like tofu, the decadent and crispy beef foie gras The flaky scallion pancake accompanied with a perfectly paired spiced curry dip, and the handmade chocolate mouse infused with a subtle yet aromatic jasmine. What’s truly not to miss, however, are the soup dumplings. No meal at Lin’s Asian Bar and Dim Sum Restaurant would be complete without these doughy soup-filled bundles. The broth that fills the dumplings is carefully prepared for hours to coax the maximum amount of flavor, which results in ultra tender bites of meat. Carefully pour the side of vinegar over the soup dumpling and enjoy as the flavor evolves from salty to sweet, enhanced with each bite. Additionally, plenty of vegetable-centric dishes make it a vegetarian friendly option. Lin’s ability to blend textures and create dynamic flavors from the freshest ingredients with a deep respect for her culture makes for a simultaneously belly-filling and heartwarming meal. Lin and her husband are commitment to using local ingredients to create food that is steeped in culture and rich in passion and flavor.

Scrumptious food, bright and lovely environment, amazing find!

By Living4TodayBlog |

First rate fresh and progressive Asian food with flavor, satisfying amounts and a delightful environment! I have been here on one previous visit to Austin. And was not disappointed to return. Soup dumplings, onion pancakes, and orange beef were amazing. Dessert in the shape of an animal was so playful. Drinks were scrumptious . I’ll be back whenever I’m in Austin, you should be too.

Great place to visit. Food is amazing

By Claudia P |

This place is so quaint. It’s small but has an outside eating area and a private room. The service and food were fantastic. If you have the chance, be sure to visit. I recommend reservations but they take walk ins too.

Incredible food and great atmosphere

By Manycars |

We had a business dinner here in their private room. Excellent service and incredible food. The soup dumplings are not to be missed. We had the lamb chops, jalapeno shrimp, sesame chicken and the snapper special. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

Delicious Asian Meal, Soup Dumplings!

By Melissa C |

This place is so cute! The good selections are great and I love to get a few dishes to share. The soup dumplings are a must. They also have great cocktails. Perfect for lunch or dinner.

Good Asian Food

By Justin P |

I had lunch at Lin Asian Bar while visiting Austin for work. Service was friendly and food was good. I had Kung Pao chicken and it was very good, really tasty sauce. They have a full bar but it was a little early for drinking. Prices are reasonable and it's close to my work, so convenient to walk to as parking in Austin is difficult.

Incredible Dim Sum

By pat m |

We were in Austin for 10 days and tried to eat here once before but it was so busy we couldn’t get in. Luckily the last day, we were lucky enough to get in, and I’m so glad we did 11am on a Saturday morning and the place was packed. Wonderful restaurant with a great laid back feel to the place. The staff were great and did not hurry you. We chose many things off the dim sum menu. Har gau, five of them. The same with the Sui Mai. Cashew and chicken dumpling, sausage rice all washed down with jasmine tea. It really doesn’t get much better. It’s not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Fabulous Dim Sum in Austin

By weyl-59 |

Wonderful Chinese restaurant on west 6th street. Everything is good and seems totally authentic. Perhaps the best Shanghai soup dumplings that we have tried. Be alert that for many choices the portions are larger than expected. Shrimp and lobster dumplings come packed with choice pieces. Sticky rice has more subtle seasoning. Check out the bathrooms for the antique Chinese posters from a different era. Excellent service, good ambience.

Great food and service

By deborah e |

First, I'm from SF, so I'm used to good Dim Sum and this was fantastic. And our serving was fabulous. I have a food allergy and she knew exactly what I could and couldn't have, and she also gave her opinion on how to eat their wonderful soup dumplings without scalding yourself! The interior and the patio were beautiful.

Quirky dim sum gem

By Nigel O |

Great dim sum with family on Sunday set in old house off the beaten track. Attentive service with a good vibe. Soup dumplings a must. No carts, order at table. Pricey by usual dim sum standards, but excellent quality.

Sad that I live in Los Angeles, this is a dont miss!

By Ask2416 |

We arrived just in time to save our table. There is a 15 min warning or you lose your table...I suggest you get there on time. Comfortable tables inside and no question a great outside patio if you desire. Parking was not an issue, we dined on a Wednesday night at 730pm. Waiter was very knowledgable and guided us to the right amount of food and kept the timing of dishes perfect. Cocktails were very good. We had simple gin and vodka, but my guess is you can't go wrong with their bar. Wine list is deep on US cabs and has a decent selection of other wines. Vegetable dumpling cooked perfectly and light with nice flavor Steam Spinach dumpling a bit thick but tasty and simple. Very healthy clean dish Shanghai soup dumpling, not Red Farm NY but close. A bit thick, but flavor and temperature make the dish. Volcano shrimp Saucy tasty with fresh flavors and cooked to perfection. Pair with vegetable fried rice for an excellent combo Go out of your way to hit this hot spot, and then go back again in a few days to taste what you ate too fast the first time ! Highly recommend

Not the place for traditional dim sum

By wackyseester |

On the hunt for good dim sum in Austin and the chef’s bona fides put this one on the list. Took along a friend who has never had dim sum before. I, on the other hand, grew up in the school of Join The Weekend Crowds For Cart Service At The Place Where They Hired A Team From Hong Kong To Cook And Eat Until You Pop, so I’ve had my share of dim sum. The food here is good, but it’s neither traditional nor authentic dim sum. The chef makes good use of local ingredients but it’s more fusion or asian-influenced than anything. The dumplings are huge, like fork-and-knife size huge, as opposed to a true asian dumpling which is one mouthful you can lift with chopsticks. Unfortunately, this makes the soup dumplings a little too big to enjoy properly. On the other hand, she has the kitchen fry the “potstickers” in such a way that they are served with a crispy, lacy fin attached, standing upright like a plate full of little dimetrodons. Tasty, and apparently Texas sized. Other dishes we had included the scallion pancake, which was served with a curry sauce, and spicy cucumber (sauced correctly but sliced in huge and therefore slightly unwieldy chunks). The food tasted good. My friend enjoyed the experience. I didn’t love it but if you are looking for authentic dim sum, this is not it. Portions and prices matched what you would expect for a casual restaurant catering to urban hipsters.

Soup dumplings!!

By Katherine P |

Since I was eating alone came here without a reservation and just sat at the bar which was full service. I’ve had soup dumplings before at Din Tai Fung and other places so definitely wanted to check this place out. Ordered the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, shrimp har kaw and the dummy combination fried rice. The soup dumplings were much bigger than I thought but I wasn’t complaining as they were so delicious. There’s 5 dumplings in one order. If you haven’t had soup dumplings before they even tell you how to eat them properly. Served in a bamboo container so extra points for presentation but even more points for taste. First of all, don’t try to stick the whole thing in your mouth! Use your chopsticks, bite a small hole and place the dumpling in the little bowl. You should add the rice wine vinegar mix to your dumpling although I prefer it with soy sauce and the chili oil. The broth will seep out which allows you to take a bite. Don’t waste any of the broth. Everything about the dumplings was fantastic. The soup was savory, packed with flavor as well as it the pork inside. The har kaw was also very tasty and were larger than I’m used to. The dummy fried rice was full with shrimp, pork, chicken and was so tasty. Next time I’m ordering the large seafood dumpling. As I sat down the place got packed so a reservation is definitely a must or eat at an off time. Parking is pretty limited but don’t let that deter you from eating here. Definitely going back.

So not worth it ! Pray you get a good server and a manager who cares.

By Monica F |

We all had a horrible experience. Even the food could not make up for the awful service. We had to tell the server our orders 3 times each; there were 4 of us. I had to repeat my order 4 times. The server's explanation of the different sake's was totally wrong. He made it clear somewhat rudley that he was "sober" and does not drink and does not know about sake......but went on to recommend. We ordered hot and we received cold. No apology. No offer of take it off your bill or offer you hot sake. Finally, all were served, but myself. When my order finally came - it was wrong ! Even after showing him on the menu multiple times in black and white. The manager did not care. He thought it was funny. We had to leave to be at the airport. The server never apologized- he only said " this is my last day training". What does that have to do with the price of tea in China ? They did take the wrong entree off the bill. I had no lunch. We did not want to miss our plane. We will never go back.

Amazing dim sum and great service.

By Julia S |

We were on a family trip to Austin and chose this restaurant because we don’t have great dim sum where we live. We sat on the patio and had a sampling of dishes-the soup dumplings, the fried dumplings, the bao, jalapeño shrimp and chicken Lo mein were all fabulous. Definitely a place to order a lot of dishes to share. Oliver was the best server and we went with all of his recommendations.

Best Soup Dumplings

By AndiM |

This is a must stop if you like Dim Sum! We didn't make reservations (which is not a good idea) so we called to see if they had any last minute cancellations. Unfortunately, they didn't. I asked if they take walk ins and he said: "It's Saturday, they are full. Probably not. BUT, we can try." So we tried and got lucky. We got a seat at the bar by the kitchen. We started with drinks. Drinks are really good! We asked our waitress what is the right amount of food to order. She recommended 2 dim sums, and entree and vegetable. We decided to go with soup dumpling and crispy pork and shrimp sui mai. We also ordered the sesame chicken and the combination fried rice.. Let's talk about the soup dumplings, the were being made right in front of us (since we were sitting in the kitchen bar) and they were next level delicious. We immediately ordered another order of them. The crispy pork and shrimp sui mai were also delicious. We tried to cut out the fried rice since we just double ordered the dumplings but we were too late. The fried rice and sesame chicken were also great but we clearly ordered way too much food. Next time we will probably stick with dim sum as that was the standout...plus I can't stop thinking about those soup dumplings! Overall, if I head back to Austin, this is a must visit spot.

Stick to Wu Chow

By sweetiesPennsylvania |

We love Wu Chow and thought we we go to its newish sister for Dim Sum. To us a Dim Sum restaurant is a place where people come round with carts of a myriad of different dishes. Lin is not like that,it has a small number of dumpling dishes on the menu and some other well known Chinese staples like sesame chicken, fried shrimp etc.We had the vegetable and seafood dumplings, good but not great.Steamed whole fish was disappointingly bland but vegetable fried rice and mixed vegetables were very good.Restaurant very noisy inside and staff enthusiastic but service not flawless with dishes arriving in random order or before plates on which to eat them! You can get most of the dishes here at Wu Chow where the execution and service are much better and the ambiance more elegant and relaxing.

Nice experience

By C C |

We ate here for lunch on a Friday. We were sat fairly quickly. Our server Kayla was very nice and attentive. We had the sesame chicken which had a really good flavor. The hot and sour soup was fair. We really went for the pork soup dumplings. Coming from NY a short time ago we were hoping to find something similar to what we ate in Chinatown. The pork soup dumplings were ok. The broth flavor was a little heavy on the onions and reminiscent of a Lipton onion soup flavor. Overall we enjoyed the lunch, but the mission continue to find a NY similar pork soup dumpling.

Excellent Service. High Quality Cuisine. Unique Cuisine.

By Jane S |

I love this place so much that I returned twice in two weeks. My first visit was for a friend's birthday; the staff placed us in a private room which was spacious, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. Staff is knowledgable about all dishes and provides great recommendations for mid-size groups or couples. Food quality is impecable. Cocktail selection is unique and varied.

Burst into the new year

By Khai L |

I've been here so many times and it remains one of my favorite upscale Chinese restaurant in town. What I'm about to review comes once a year perhaps since I was lucky to dine during the Lunar New Year celebration so the menu was special. I did the old and the new just like at New Year's eve, ordering from both the regular and the special one. Before I tell you about the food, let me slip you a secret. Dine at the dimsum bar, so you can also feast your eyes with the preparation work that goes into making dumplings. Speaking of dumplings, you can't go wrong with the Shanghai soup dumplings. Personally, go for the smaller ones (5) instead of the big one. You want the feeling of hot dumpling soup bursting in your mouth, not slurping with a straw, and you can share the joy with more people (or fight them over food ) Chaoshou is another simple Chinese dish I recommend. Dumplings soaked in soy sauce with chilli oil. Tasty with a kick. Dan Dan noodles are so simple, yet I order it every time. It is definitely made for peanut sauce lovers. One of the elevated dishes I like at Lins is their steak with foie gras. Tender to the bite and packed with flavorful punches. Don't forget to ask for rice so you can mix in with the 'pesto' sauce that comes with it. Lin's has never disappointed me. And I hope it will be a pleasant visit for you too.

Soup dumplings (recommend if you are a tourist or visiting Austin)

By aditya_ravikumar |

Imaginative cuisine and unique dumplings. They also serve soup dumplings (soup inside a dumpling) which is very unique Other(+) highly vegetarian friendly impressive bar and decent menu polite staff Not too long waiting times

Absolutely amazing

By ksmith522017 |

First time at this quaint little place. Service was great and food was delicious. Their soup dumplings were very good, a little larger than I’m use to but very good. Special of the night was Peking Duck and it did not disappoint.

EXCEPTIONAL

By John B. N |

A robust flavor explosion of perfectly prepared Asian fare. Imaginative cuisine, open kitchen with friendly staff. Absolutely excellent!

Ho Hum

By LemonLover |

Many red lanterns outside in a cute house in a trendy hipster area. Friendly staff. Open kitchen concept draws local crowds. Food was very Americanized ‘chinesey’ and not good. Expensive and small portions. No alcohol, 3 appetizers, 5 entrees, 1 dessert, all shared by family of 5...total tab was $255 including automatically added 20% gratuity (for table of 5). Great marketing has helped this business. We are in China often and understand Chinese food will be modified here for western tastes. Simply Not worth the money or vibes and that is based on our whole family voting! Will stick to truly native and local foods in Austin.

Asian Culinary Treasure

Do NOT miss this culinary Shangri-La where art meets flavor. Delicious beautiful presentations, imaginative desserts and exceptional service. Shrimp Har Kaw & Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Akaushi Orange Peel Beef, Crispy Jalapeño Shrimp and the Honeycomb Cheesecake rocked our lunch date today. Server Chris, a fellow foodie, guided us through the menu. Started texting friends about Lin as soon as we left. Cannot wait to return. Also looking forward to trying their new upscale restaurant, the nearby “Qi”

Love this place for a cozy date

Food is delicious, cocktails are great and the service is excellent. There’s nothing on the menu I have tried and not liked!

Food is fabulous but there is a weird rule about ordering.

By Sharon I |

I would have happily given Lin Asian Bar 5-stars but for the fact that after you make your 1st order - that's it, you are not allowed to order anything else. Weird and might keep me from returning. I lived in China for 5 years, travelled all over taste testing restaurants and this is by far the best dim sum I've had since I left China. The Shanghai Soup Dumplings are Divine! JUST PLEASE let people order more food!

Your Body Will Thank You and So Will Your Friends After Eating Chef Lin's Cuisines!

By Jake H |

Lin Asian Bar + Dim Sum is an amazing restaurant and fills up quickly which shows just how popular it is! I can't believe I've been missing out for all this time. I went for lunch and sweet Chef Lin allowed me to try to make the dumplings myself. One of mine wasn't half bad! The staff are great here and the food was delicious!! On top of the Shanghai soup dumplings, I also ordered Beef with Bell Pepper. Talk about tender beef!! Thank you Chef Lin and staff. I can't wait to come back!!!

Tasty, Tasteful and Authentic Chinese Cuisine

By Iris C |

This has to be the busiest and most popular Asian restaurant in Austin. We consider ourselves lucky to have been able to fit ourselves in on a second try after the Fermentation Festival 2019 in Mueller Park (what brought us to Austin) ended. Every dish recommended by our waiter Danny was excellent. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the ingredients were impressive. Chef Ling Wu is a young but experienced chef who has created many delicious homemade dishes based on her grandmother’s recipes. Her presentations are exquisite and very eye pleasing. We love the way her Soup Dumplings were served in a very well-designed porcelain tiny bowl (available for purchase - very unique and pretty). We highly recommend the Angus Beef Cubes with Foie Gras and Dummy Rice in Hot Pot. Her desserts are like pieces of art and so delicious! We also love the fact that they use better and healthier ingredients locally sourced. We only wished we had time to try more Dim Sum and other dishes. Having had many authentic meals in cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, London, Vancouver, etc, we must say Lin Asian Bar and Dim Sum is one of our top favorites.

Crazy good dumplings

By Jon D |

The title says it all. We went for lunch today and the soup dumplings were absolutely amazing. Perfectly made. The rest of our lunch was delicious too but the soup dumplings were just awesome. Going to have to head back to Austin to go to Lin's. Don't pass it up!

Okay, Those Soup Dumplings are Amazing

By Petethekid |

The soup dumplings look cool, they’re fun to eat and they taste great. The scallion pancake is also incredible. Also, the lichee (?) martini is really good. Service for our table at lunch was great. Cool atmosphere (but noisy) and nice outdoor seating on the street. Main courses were yum too, but appetizers and dim sum were great. And I don’t usually love Asian food.

Decent Dim Sum for Austin

By Gary T |

This is likely the best Dim Sum in Austin. In fact, it comes close to some of the better Dim Sum places in San Fransisco, Vancouver, Hong Kong and Shanghai. For some reason we arrived believing the Dim Sum menu was quite limited and were pleased to see that it wasn't. There are a large number of dishes available. We originally ordered 11 dishes, but they were out of the Baked Pork Bun. Also for the Shrimp Har Cheung lovers out there, it is not on the menu. We were a party of three and we shared the 10 dishes. Here are our thoughts on them: Black Fungus Salad- Excellent... slightly picked black mushrooms and carrots Salt and Pepper Shrimp - Excellent... shrimp are plump, not over breaded and seasoned perfectly. The salad base that they arrive on is quite tasty as well. Chicken Feet - Not my thing but rated "the best I've ever had" by the family Chicken Feet expert BBQ Pork Bun - Excellent, not over breaded and really tasty Pork BBQ inside We found the following dishes quite nice but not a great deal different than other Austin Dim Sum places - Har Kaw (a little bigger that most places), Spare Ribs (Again a little bigger that most places but similar in taste) and Pork and Shrimp Sui Mai. We didn't care all that much for the Shanghai Soup Dumpling, but we aren't soup dumpling people. It's dumpling was a little too chewy and doughy. We also didn't care much for the Chicken with Cashew Dumpling, it's dumpling was also chewy and doughy. The Sesame Ball was excellent. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. The kitchen had our Dim Sum dishes on our table in a matter of minutes and it arrived freshly prepared at a perfect temperature. To sum this up (pun intended)- This is the best Dim Sum we have found in Austin in a location with great service and a top notch kitchen. Reservations take a while to get so plan ahead. We go back often for sure. It is a bit pricey for Dim Sum but worth the spend in my book.

Food excellent, friendly, professional service

By OberstA |

The food only gets better. The dim sum is excellent. Try the vegetable variety. Even full, service was friendly and helpful. This place and Wu Chow make the Chinese restaurant scene very bright.

Soup Dumpling + Char Sui

By Hystericalhappiness |

Four of us shared 6 plates and will be back for more! We had reservation for 7pm and were promptly seated. The noise level was off the charts but lessened as our meal progressed. The stand outs were the Shanghai Soup Dumplings which come 5 per order and the Char Sui which is Cantonese style BBQ pork. Orange Peel Beef was great for some but chewy for others. The table was split on the Smoked Duck which was too smoky for some but nicely flavored like ham for others. Bok Choy with Mushrooms nice accompaniment but challenging to eat since pieces more than 1 bite size and no knife on the table. Peanut Noodles were enjoyed by most of the table due to the nice kick. Wine prices average. Great meal to share.

Christmas lunch

By Gary T |

We had an amazing Dim Sum lunch here Christmas day. We shared 13 Dim Sum items and all were great. Service was as usual outstanding. This place really delivers a true Hong Kong Dim Sum experience. Unfortunately, I seem to have left my glasses there and and can't get through by text or phone.

Awesome to celebrate birthday!

By L&B |

Have been wanting to dine here so in honor of my dad's 96th birthday, we did! Wow! Great menu with dim sum and entrees to satisfy every taste. Well presented. Front service staff, especially Louisa, are excellent. Enjoyed the smoked duck, braised pork shank w/ steamed buns (get only 3, but can ask for more) and of course, a noodle dish for long life, the seafood udon noodles. Being Chinese and having dined at some of the world's best Chinese restaurants, Lin's ranked! Will be back to enjoy more of Lin's dishes! Can see why it's ranked #1...Congrats! Attached are pics of the private (wine) room we dined in...intimate but noisy from beyond the door...but not a problem! Kinda typical of a Chinese restaurant!

Our New Favorite Restaurant

By lauraduggan2015 |

Small and cozy, Lin Asian Bar and Dim Sum will delight you in every way. The food is fabulous, especially their handmade soup dumplings and the seafood in bird's nest, my personal favorites. We like to sit at the bar by the open kitchen and watch the owner and chef make the dumplings, each one hand rolled and stuffed. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is excellent. They even have a great wine list. Dining options include the kitchen bar, a limited number of tables in the dining room, a private dining room that seats probably 12, seating at the cocktail bar and a handful of tables outside on the front porch. You will want to make reservations in advance because the place is always crowded. It's easy to see why it is so popular. Parking is also extremely limited.

DIMSUM!

By Sandra O |

Probably the best dim sum in town.. I have been to other locations as well, but this one is top top top notch. Service is always good, food is speedy, and I never feel rushed. The drinks are decent but not a big morning drinker anyway

Break your BBQ streak at Lin’s

By Bianca Galán-Guzmán |

Incredible food and service. Came here to celebrate a birthday and had a great time. Really enjoyed the shrimp with mushroom baos and seasonal fruit salad. The passionfruit bear was also delish!

Just like a fine Hong Kong neighborhood eatery

By OberstA |

Open for one year, the food has become varied and sophisticated. Top of the line: shrimp dim sum. Fried rice excellent, as are chicken, shrimp, beef and vegetable dishes. Fine hot tea. Solid service. Fair prices. But loud when busy, reservations a must. This is a keeper

Best Restaurant in Austin

By Lauren C |

We have had only wonderful meals at Lin's over the last six months. The Shanghai Soup dumplings, Peking Duck (weekends) with sticky buns, dummy rice, basiclly everything is wonderful. We were there for the Chineese New Year. Wow what a show, a night to remember. I always make a reservation, since it is always full. You can eat at the counter and watch them make the dumplings. There is one priate room for 10, you need to call to reserve the room. Lin cares about her customers. The only improvement would be more space.

We loved everything about this place! Great atmosphere and even better food. Busy but we were able to be seated right away. We will definitely be back!

Great take out from a local jewel during difficult times.

By Steve C |

So to celebrate our 12th day of self-quarantine, my youngest step-daughter, her husband and I (from the back house) decided to take a break from our home cooking and to treat ourselves with a take out dinner from Lin's Asian Bar. The online ordering was easy and efficient and we arrived just in time for our 6:30 pick up. As the sign in the side driveway instructed we called the indicated number, told them our order name, and our order was immediately brought out and placed in our back seat. We decided to pick up our order rather than have it delivered so as to ensure as short a time as possible from the kitchen to the table. After a 7 minute drive home we unpacked and portioned out the dishes we had ordered. Beginning with the flavorful and hot, hot & sour soup for each of us, we started enjoying what turned out to be a very memorable meal. Every dish was hot, fresh, and delicious. Even the scallion pancakes, which were a little dry, were still enjoyable with the special curry dip. Starting with the salt and pepper shrimp (crust crispy) and shrimp and vegetarian dim sum appetizers, and progressing to our orange peel beef, duck, and vegetable entrees, we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The complimentary dessert was a nice surprise and a light and refreshing way to complete our little celebration. Additionally, the 2015 white burgundy that we pulled from our cellar paired well with everything and added to our enjoyment. Thank you Lin's for delivering a memorable dining experience during difficult times. We will do what we can to help with your struggle. We can only hope other Austin diners will do their part, too.

I wish I could give more than

By mr_larry_smith |

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Lin provides a great experience. The atmosphere was wonderfully old Austin for Asian food. The service was great from the time we arrived at the door. Of course the food was first class at every course. We will return.

Dim Sum anyone

Great food, not impressed with the service. Kind of snobby and seemed disinterested in customer service.

Lin Asian Bar and Dim Sum

By Fat Man Reviews |

While exploring Austin, my wife and I both wanted some dumplings. So we made a reservation and headed to Lin Asian Bar and Dim Sum. Lin's is a health-conscious eatery serving Chinese fare and Dim Sum with locally-sourced ingredients. We started with Lin's Soup Dumplings. The dumplings were sticky and chewy while the filling was tender and flavorful. The broth on the inside had a hint of sweet and a saltiness that pairs well with the chewy dumpling. We also tried the Akaushi Beef Potstickers. Interestingly, the potsticker has a crispy wafer with it, however, it did not offer any flavor. The filling was tender and juicy but did not offer a lot of flavor. The dipping sauce was sweet with a hint of sour and adds needed flavor to the dish. I ordered the Orange Peel Akaushi Beef with steamed rice. This entree has sauteed Akaushi beef in an orange sauce with orange peel and chili. The rice was cooked perfectly. The beef had a little crust on it and was very tender and slightly chewy, although it was stringy in a few bites. The sauce was thick, sweet with the orange flavor coming through the entire bite. The orange peel offers good flavor, with a sour finish. I also tried the Egg Drop Soup with fresh Corn. This soup brought the corn flavor immediately and it lasted throughout the entire bite. It gave a freshness and texture to the soup. The soup was very flavorful, salty, with the egg cooked perfectly to offer a creamy texture. My wife had the Braised Pork Shank with steam bun. This dish was made with braised pork shank, different spices and homemade buns. The pork was very tender, the spice was not hot, and the allspice comes through above all else. However, we both thought that the pork was under seasoned. The skin was fatty and gelatinous but worked when combined with the tender pork under it. The sauce was sweet and coated the pork well. The bao bun was sticky, spongy, soft and had a little sweetness to it. It chews well with the pork. Lin's offers beer, wine and a full bar. The menu changes by the season. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that Lin Asian Bar and Dim Sum is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.

Great find!

Never had Dim Sum, which is why we chose this place. It was GREAT! We had the soup dim sum as an appetizer and it didn’t disappoint. Entrees were not bad either. Sat outside, appreciate the heaters provided, as it was a cold night. Can’t wait to come back!

Delicious Shanghai Soup dumpling

By vacationetc |

We love the lobster and Shanghai soup dumpling. The restaurant is not too big, has some outdoor seating. It might get crowded very fast during dinner time.

Decent food but way overpriced

By Oly55 |

The pork shank was good as were the shared small plates. The prices are a bit steep for both the food & drink. For example $6 for a cup of jasmine tea (came with water refills though) & $10 for one scallion pancake.

Great soup dumplings

By torres07md |

Went here once with the family to get a to go order. The service was prompt and the food held up good as a to go order. We liked the egg drop soups, the fried crispy su Mai, and the sesame chicken. There was an excellent tofu and veges dish with the best black fungus I've had since Tokyo called "seasonal veggie". I would definitely recommend the soup dumplings, a MUST HAVE.

Good dishes

After a challenging parking situation, I was greeted by good service inside this small kitchen Asian restaurant. Dishes were prepared expertly and were touched by the chef’s unique spin on authentic Chinese dishes, but up a level.

Great tasting food!

We had dinner here on a Saturday night. Our reservation was for their heated patio and I was concerned about how chilly it would be, but it was perfect. We enjoyed their soup dumplings and shrimp with pork bao. Delicious! Our server recommended 3 protein entrees since there were 4 of us. We ordered the beef and peppers, whole fish, and a dish with shrimp (don't recall the name). Everything was really good and we had great service!

Excellent Soup Dumplings

Quaint little Chinese restaurant. Service was good and everything tasted very fresh. The Shanghai Soup Dumplings were amazing and the duck was cooked perfectly!

Amazing

If you are in Austin make every effort to visit Lin. They are open for lunch and then again for dinner. This restaurant is located on 6th Street and they have their own parking. The food is delicious! All food is served family style which is great for getting to sample more dishes. We had the pork soup dumplings which is probably the most popular item on the menu. They were yummy. We also shared Dummy rice and Braised Pork Shank with the cutest “hedgehog” shaped sticky buns. It was too much food for 2 of us and we couldn’t finish all of it. Everything was delicious and we can’t wait to go back!

Best Dumplings in Austin

By Chuck C |

Chef Ling came from Fujian Provence is very talented...she has worked in NY Restaurants and La Traviata in Austin. While there, we had Chicken Shiitake Sui Mai,Vegetable Dumplings, Steamed Spinach Dumplings, Chicken Taro Egg Roll and Shanghai Soup Dumplings. I almost hate to write this because it's so popular... now there usually is a wait. Definitely make reservations and get there early, because parking is tight, but really worth it!

Great lunch

By Phil G |

Went for lunch. Had a reservation for 4. Got there and they had us at a height table. We had a 2 year old toddler. Asked for a regular table and the reception guy was snooty and gave us a lecture. Almost left cause of him. But we stayed and swallowed the rude beginning. Other than that, the service was awesome, the food was awesome and the lunch was awesome. Tried pretty much everything on the lunch menu. All great. Would give them five stars but just can’t forget the rudeness from the host.

High Quality and Authentic Dim Sum

By VTwelltravelled |

We literally were walking by and decided to have lunch. We were accommodated right away on the air conditioned outdoor patio which was amazing. The dim sum (I'm talking to YOU soup dumplings and Chicken with Cashews) were outstanding!!! Melt in your mouth. The sauces they came with were great too. Very light, fresh and hand made. I would go back just to order the other dim sum I missed. We also got a side veggie of box chow which was great and Dan noodles which were good but a bit oversauced. Very cool private room inside and very cool bathrooms. Overall, this place is awesome - servers are very knowledgeable and the menu is authentic and fresh dim sum and small plates. Don't miss it!

A feast for the senses

This was my first visit to Lin Asian Bar + Dim Sum. Having read previous reviews, I made a reservation for two the day before. We parked in a paid lot about a block away (street parking can be hard to find nearby) and upon arrival was promptly seated. The bar seating overlooking the kitchen provided the ability to watch the dumplings being made which added a bit of wonder to the dining experience. The restaurant felt a little crowded, but the wait staff were all attentive and the food was amazing! While everything was delicious, the soup dumplings, duck pancake, and beef bao were my favorites. I look forward to coming back at some point and I will certainly be telling others to visit as well.

Good food, disappointing service

By ARoy |

Food was decent - no different than what you’d get in any chinatown in a big city. Nothing creative - just standard Shanghai dumplings or Chinese fare. The service was sub-par for a nice place. We spilled our cocktail right after it arrived, and anywhere I feel they would have replaced it, but here they charged us for the replacement.

Best Dim Sum ever!

By Katherine Moser |

Best Dim Sum I have had, including San Francisco and New York. The venue is near downtown Austin in a bungalow style house converted into modern restaurant. Indoor seating area, also outdoor patio seating. It is a fun, festive restaurant; attire is business casual. The inside decor is whimsical and inviting; the open kitchen and bar make for a lively atmosphere. The dim sum food includes traditional offerings as well as contemporary dishes prepared by a talented kitchen staff. I highly recommend this restaurant but make reservations prior to your visit or you may not be seated. Weekend dim sum brunch books up quickly. Delightfully cozy innovative spot!

Christmas Eve Impromptu Dinner

By Alexander K |

Came in without reservation, at the opening time of 5 PM. There were plenty of people in line already, but we were able to get a table for five. Service and food were great. For 2 adults and 3 kids, got two orders of soup dumplings, orange beef, sesame chicken and Peking duck. Plus hot pot rice. For dessert, got Christmas special and passion fruit sorbet. All were excellent!!

Amazing as always

We go about once or twice a year, everything we get is always fresh and delicious, I love how the staff works as team to get the food orders our hot and fresh. Nobody stands around!

Excellent Dim Sum

By Jeff K |

Our family stopped here for dim sum @ 11:00 on a Saturday morning. All indoor seats were taken or reserved but we were able to sit outside. Dim sum is ordered off of a menu, not from carts. They have a good assortment of dishes including several I had never had. Food quality was very good and the dishes arrived hot. Service was very good and prices were reasonable for the quality. They also have a full bar. We enjoyed it a lot. It was one of the better dim sum places I’ve been to. Recommended.

excellent

You have to go here, so, so good. The noodles are awesome, drinks are very good. You can set outside or inside, great place to people watch.

Great Asian!

By S7139VEjimg |

This place was hopping on a week night. We ate at the bar to avoid an hour wait. After a lychee martini & a “ ginger fever” we pigged out with exotic dishes like chicken taro egg roll, dumplings, scallion pancake, spicy tofu & veggies. Topped off meal with passionfruit sorbet. Very accommodating staff. Authentic Food worth the noise level.

Fantastic food & atmosphere

We had dinner at this lovely restaurant last night and the food & service were outstanding!! The duck was succulent and the shrimp as tasty as we have ever had. The braised ribs literally fell off the bone. A must place for Chinese food in Austin

Vibrant Asian Tastes, Energetic Staff

By Cal E |

If you are in the mood for some complex combinations of Asian tastes, this is your place. The food is wonderful at Lin from the appetizers to the soups, noodles, dim sum, and entrees. Everything few tried exceeded our expectations. Although online menu identifies many GF options, almost all dishes have non GF Soy sauce. Staff seems unclear on the GF concept to if you are sensitive, beware.
