Genuine and tasty!

We ordered a couple of different dishes and everyone was delicious. Together with the amazing service from the friendly staff this dinner was over expectation!

Tasty food - bad experience with one member of staff

By Travellover6128 |

Had a fun meal here with friends, which is extremely cheap for SF standards. Portions not huge but reasonable. However i went to the only ladies bathroom and after a minute or two, someone was thumping on the door. Upon finishing i found it was a member of staff, who then rudely told me i had been in there too long???? Not impressed

A place i would always go to

The price is fair the food is great if your into cold beer they have a nice Indian beer small and large nice and cold I had the special about 8 bucks tandoori chicken with names bread partner had prawn curry all for less than $30 go and enjoy you won't be disappointed pde

Great Food!!

By Zed26 |

Chose this restaurant while visiting San Fran based on the reviews and it didn't disappoint. We had the tandoori mixed platter for an appetizer. With succulent pieces of lamb kebabs, chicken tandoori and fish tikka. Being of Indian decent we know our Indian food and eat at Indian restaurants frequently. Love this place. Service was quick and efficient once you get seated thought people were waiting for tables throughout the entire time we were there. Popular place. Also ordered the Badami Chicken (their version of a korma) and the butter chicken. The butter chicken had a slightly smokey flavour which really added to the taste and was very good. The Badami chicken, well we wanted to lick the bowl, that's how good it was. Have ordered korma at every Indian place we go to and this is by far the best yet! Naan was decent and French and hot. Portions were perfect for sharing. If I lived here I would eat here once a week for sure!

Mediocre Food, good service

By hkundert |

Indian style restaurant with friendly service. Food came fast and was ok. Could have been a bit more tasty and also spicier (although I told them that I like it original spicy). Had Chicken Marsala, vegetable and a glass of premium Chardonney. With $ 50.- rather on the expensive side.

Mangolasi nan some chicken tikka masala

By marek_w_s |

A good Indian food in a budget for a family of four. The best in this price range we encountered in SF and East Bay. Neighborhood unpleasant though, but still in a walking distance from the glamorous shopping district.

Fantastic Indian food

By FilipSwe |

I love indian food and I always come back to Little Delhi whenever I'm in SF. The chicken curry or masala is just wonderful!

Indian food in the heart of union square.

By elizacass |

First of all, I have to admit that i travel for a living. I've had some of the best Indian food all over the world! So, I might be a bit too much a food connoisseur to be completely fair on my review. The food here is pretty good. I had the vegetable samosa to start, they were a bit cold and not the best flavor, maybe skip this one. Then the "famous" butter chicken for my entree. I was so excited! Hmm, not the creamy version I'm used too, and the flavor was not that amazing. The garlic bread was good, the beer was cold, and the service, excellent. Prices were decent too for Indian. Very popular place. It was a Sunday night and it was packed! I would try it again and try something else.

Good indian food

By Harsh C |

Food was good here but I really don't like the service here. The things were very much delayed here. But overall food was really good.

Disappointing

By Stornoveggie |

On the basis of a few positive reviews, I had high hopes for this place, but I was disappointed. I have no complains about the service, and thought that the food was ok, but nothing special. Given the choice of mild/medium/hot I went for hot, and the waiter gave me a look along the lines of “are you sure you’re ready for this?”, so I thought maybe I’d be getting something a little interesting. I’m not into the macho how-hot-can-you-handle nonsense, but I genuinely like spicy food. When it came to it, the heat was completely underwhelming. That would have been fine if the expectation hadn’t been set at a certain level, or if the food hadn’t also been generally a bit bland. To some extent this may have been a british-influenced-indian vs american-influenced-indian thing, as the emphasis of the dishes was subtly different. To me the food seemed to have more than a hint of a Chinese-style sweet and sour thing going on, which was not unpleasant but a little unexpected. It was also a bit heavy on the fat, and in one or two cases very definitely heavy on the salt.

Pretty yummy

By Frank4014 |

I like this place and found it on this site. It was good overall. Staff was a bit flighty and preoccupied but overall good. I got chicken tiki masala which was good except the chicken was a bit tough. Nahn was good. It's always a bummer when you have to pay for rice. Chai tea was great and free refills were a nice touch. I'd eat here again. Reasonable prices.

Wide variety of delicious Northern Indian food

By Kathy K |

Two friends from Southern India and I were sightseeing in San Francisco when we stumbled onto this restaurant near Union Square. The food was very tasty, and the service was great. The extensive menu has something for everyone, and the portions are huge.

Good Indian food!

When in SF downtown if craving for some good Indian food , then would recommend this one. The ambiance is ok. Service is good. The food is great.

Good Eats!

By JerseyGirl59_10 |

My cousin and I found this Indian restaurant while in San Francisco, looking to have a casual meal nearby where we were staying. It does not look like much from the outside, but inside it was packed with customers! The service was attentive, and the server was patient with us when we peppered her with questions about the various choices. Our food was delicious. Thankfully we did not add any spice as the 'regular' spice level kept me drinking water and dabbing at my nose! But the food was very good and looking around it appeared that everyone else thought so too. Not that expensive and a lot of food to eat...

Unbelievable Flavour

By ChronicMike |

The food at Little Delhi is absolutely amazing. Just a block away from Powell Street Station, this central restaurant is a must go for anyone who enjoys Indian food. We had the butter chicken and lamb curry, both of which were outstanding. The service was great too, with friendly and attentive staff.

Excellent

I have been in india and in many indian restaurants in the world, this one is defently one of the best of them talking about the quality of the food as well as what you get for the price you pay

Delicious Indian Cusine

By Tarun1971 |

We were here with family during a recent trip to San Francisco downtown area when we casually stumbled on this corner restaurant. It was unusually crowded and people for queing here to get their table. After about 10 mins of waiting we finally got the seat. The waiting staff quickly came and took our orders. We ordered Lamb (Goat) curry (Chef's special), Makhani Daal and Chicken Tikka alongwith Naan breads. The food came piping hot straight from the kitchen. Quantity was wholesome, the taste was authentic . We have tasted Indian food around the world and this was really tasty. The prices were quite reasonable and the service was good. Would recommend folks to try this restaurant if you are in the area.

Good meal - mediocre service

By Hrönn |

The place is authentic - Jai Ganesha. Quick service but rather impersonal. We had vegetable pakora to share as a starter. It was really tasty and crispy. Though I missed some mango chutney to make the flavor even better so I asked for it and it completed the dish. My husband had the lamb korma in the mild version and was pleased, but could have done with the medium. I had the vegetable malai kofta medium and it was delicious. We shared one kabuli nan which was soft, warm and freshly baked. We also ordered raita, 1 coke and 1 rice. The total price for our meal was $37.71 - not bad for a good Indian meal

Great food - good value

By Mar M |

This place was just on the other side of the street of our hotel. The service is quick and effcicent and conducted in a no-nonsense style. The place may not look like much on the outside but the food is very good. We we ordered 3 dishes. Chicken Tikkamasala, shrimps rasale and lamb in curry, with garlic nan bread and rice on the side. The chicken and shrimps were very good. The lamb in curry was excellent - no wonder they recommend it. One of the kids ordered Indian lemonade which was a bit to spicy and exotic for their taste so he just drank the water which is served when seated. All-in-all high quality Indian food at a very reasonable price.

Authentic Indian Food

By DesireeM2725 |

I grew up eating Indian food - the lamb curry here was delicious and flavorful. My only complaint is that the lamb did not have much taste - it could well have been beef. But my husband, son and I each had a different type of curry, and they were all delicious.

Good curry, good price

By Kevin |

Accustomed to having many curries in the UK, the food here is very good and very keenly priced. The decor is somewhat simplistic and not salubrious but standard for a cheap curry in my experience. Would recommend.

Good food, good prices mediocre service.

By Mike G |

It was good and the lunch menu was very affordable at $10 each including a beer and a soda. Meal came with one naan per person. I'd go back.

A great curry

By Charles K |

We are from England and eat lots of curries. We decided to try stone vegetarian takeaways - we were very impressed with the quality and taste of the food, we would happily return for more. The online ordering was simple, the staff were very good when we came to collect the food.

Very good!

By Oren W |

Very good, authentic Indian food. Prices are very reasonable and portions are big. Tandori oven. Recommended.

Busy, busy, busy

By JIL3699 |

We had to wait over half an hour for a table which just goes to show how popular this restaurant is although it is Memorial weekend too! Service was excellent and staff very polite and friendly. We had Lamb Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh both medium spice but I found the rogan josh much more spicy than at home. Good sized portions and we have learned from experience not to over-order but for those who do they will provide a 'doggy bag' to take home. Would commend to anyone visiting San Francisco.

Decent in a Pinch

By Tim_m_1973 |

My girlfriend and I went last week as we were craving Indian. Overall, a good experience. Pros : Excellent service - 5 out of 5. Super friendly and accommodating. Price - Very reasonable. Atmosphere - Very clean. Looks like was an old cafe. We kinda liked it though. Sat at "the counter" Cons Food was a bit bland atmosphere might not appeal to some

Nice place for Indian food

By yogeshjw |

After spending three weeks in the US, and wanting to change the flavor of the taste buds, I went to this place. The food is ok and can better. The vegetables could be made better, the pieces were not cut as per their size. However the Dal and green chutney was good. One can visit this place, for a change in the taste buds.

Try somewhere-anywhere- else!

By dana b |

We had dinner at this restaurant on Saturday night. We waited forever to order drinks and even longer for our entrees. This was not an isolated event- another table got up to leave, the table next to us had waited forever, and another table was so frustrated that they even went to the bar and brought back their own drinks. Everyone complained, but to no avail. The worst part of this two hour experience was that the owner discounted one of the table's dinners, but not ours. Had we been given even an ice tea on the house or some timely apologies with an explanation, I would have been satisfied. The wait staff looked busy, sashaying too and fro, but never seemed to have food or drinks in hand. The kitchen staff actually brought out our meal! We will not go back to a place that treats customers so poorly. There are other Indian restaurants with great reviews- try them first.

Delicious Experience

By Tiare K |

Enjoyed a pleasant evening here with my friend and her family. The service was good and the food was tasty. If you like the taste of coconut milk then the food they serve here may fit your taste buds. The bread "Nann" was light and flavorful (garlic and cheese, mixed fruit and more). We took some back to the hotel and it still tasted good the next day. The serving size is enough to share with your family or friends.

Tasty and reasonably priced Indian food

By minimuffinlover |

Cheap great food and good service, at a location near the Orpheum and city center protest marches. What’s not to like? If you like spicy food, order more heat than usual, since they are careful of the sensitive American palate. All the Indian standard dishes are good here, and the price is great.

Great food and inexpensive

By Ankush |

This is a wonderful corner Indian restaurant in San Francisco just 3 minutes by foot from the Powell Square metro. They have vegetarian and non-veg food and it's fairly authentic. If you want spicy, they make it spicy! And it's very inexpensive, especially for San Francisco. You can get a full lunch for $10 including tax and tip. I frequently go there when I'm in San Francisco.

Good food

Went on a Saturday evening 10 of us with all age groups and different choices ... everything fulfilled and food was good .

Nice food, nice atmosphere, super service

By Rinse T |

This is a very nice Indian restaurant, with super service and a nice atmosphere. We choose this based on the reviews of the restaurant. We had diner with our family of 5 - 2 adults, 3 teenagers who are familiar with asian food. We shared starters - which came fast and were very tasty! For mains we shared 5 dishes plus rice and naan. Very good curries and they were so kind to adjust to the various 'spice' levels in our group: mild for some, spicy for others. The restaurant is mid sized and the atmosphere is nice: cosy decorations, friendly atmosphere. The 'hosts' are real hosts and make you feel comfortable and at home. All in all a very good experience for a very reasonable price. I believe i paid $155 including tips for a diner with starters and mains and drinks for 5.

Excellent curry

By Tom_em_1 |

Food was excellent, we had the lamb rogan josh and the tandoori platter with keema naan. Service was friendly, reasonably priced.

Amazing food for reasonable price

By teaterminator |

We had Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Tandoori, it was very good; specially the Masalla, and it wasnt too expensive. Our waiter was a very good guy too.

Good meal should have more spice

By leandro |

Good meal but as it is Indian I was expecting a stronger spice. Very good value for the price. I recommend it for a lunch

Okish

By mdahake |

just a place to give your taste buds an Indian Spices feel. Neither too good nor to bad. Ambience could be made better and maintained.

Amazing food with decent service

By Raida A |

This restaurant served some of the best east Indian cuisine that I have ever had. Although the restaurant could use a face lift and service was a tad dry, the food couldn't be beat. The price was good for the portion sizes. I suggest that you try this restaurant if you are looking for good eats at a reasonable price

Yum and satisfying

By Deelaplonge |

We loved the Garlic Naan, very yummy! We ordered vegetable Korma (hot) which was really very nice, lots of vegetables and nice and spicy. The other dish was the lamb vindaloo (hot). This was quite disappointing as it just tasted very much like tomatoes and we found the korma was spicier. Overall very nice, satisfying as the serves were generous, however a bit of spice in the vindaloo would have given this place an even better rating!

Tasty and filling food at a very reasonable price

By Stephen M |

Unpretentious Indian restaurant, nothing fancy but delicious and filling food. I had a salad, lamb with spinach, pilau rice and naan bread, big portions, very very tasty and I could hardly believe how little the total bill came to. Great value for money in a very expensive city, right in the middle of town, I thoroughly recommend it and will definitely return on my next visit to SF!

Last meal in SF

By Sue P |

Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place, but the food was excellent and the staff was friendly. Had the Lamb Rasala and the Butter Chicken. Also shared a mango Lassi and was not disappointed. Basmati rice and fresh Naan were delicious and hot. Watch for extra charges on drink refills and extra rice. Felt a little taken advantage of by not being told it was extra$$

Bursts of Flavor Setting Off a Prince Concert in Your Mouth

By EKC_LA_CA |

We are lovers of Indian cuisine. Our friends told us to be sure to eat at the Little Delhi restaurant while we visited San Francisco. Wow! What a fantastic tip! We ordered two entrees, a vegetable, bread, and rice. The service was impeccable with constant, friendly attention. The serving dishes were traditional Indian and kept the food hot. Our feast started with complimentary papadum served with spicy mint chutney and tamarind sauce that did not disappoint us. Shortly after savoring every morsel of the papadum, our meal was presented to us, beautifully, and piping hot. The roti (whole wheat tandoori cooked/baked bread) was flavorful and hearty. We ordered the curry lamb spicy (not extra spicy) and I can attest it was SPICY, with a generous portion of melt-in-your-mouth chunks of marvelously seasoned lamb. The chicken dish (ordered mild) was served with a light sauce containing cashews and pistachios. The spices were well balanced and caused our tastebuds to dance with joy. But the greatest surprise of the evening, the total show stopper, was the eggplant in a succulent tomato sauce with green peas. This flavorful combination produced explosions of flavor each time a green pea "popped" when bitten down upon. The snap of the peas with each bite was mind shatteringly scrumptious. We have added the Little Delhi restaurant to our short list of "must dine at every time we visit" San Francisco. We now know, first hand, why our friends so vehemently recommended Little Delhi. We are eagerly looking forward to sampling other dishes on our next visit! What a find!

Great food at a great price!

By PosAmrita |

San Francisco is one of those unique cities in the US that offers a fairly wide variety of vegetarian food. Little Delhi brings that special, authentic taste of India to the city with many options to choose from. I ordered take out, and the portions were generous at an affordable price. Was even offered complimentary chai while waiting. The okra is a must try, and the naans are delicious! And you don't have to worry about the spice levels either. Would definitely recommend Little Delhi.

Nope 👎 it's not little Delhi

By BinodMishra |

Was there today for dinner and found this joint not so called little Delhi although they have Indian menu but the food touch is not Indian , never again

Awful

By FloridaMick |

Was looking forward to a nice Indian meal on our last night in SF. This place is not a traditional curry house, I had my reservations when I ordered a chicken vindaloo and was asked if I wanted it mild, med or spicy! Vindaloo IS spicy. They use curry powder instead of spices, overwhelming to the taste. We asked for our food to be wrapped so we could give it to the street people of SF, which we did along with the tip.. Lesson learned, you only get what you pay for!

Disappointing food but good service

By B C |

Although the food wasn't bad (portion size was decent and the food tasted ok) and the service was good, I wasn't very impressed with this as an Indian restaurant. My friend and I ordered chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. Both tasted overwhelmingly of tomatoes and had I blind tasted them I would have been unable to tell them apart. I'm not entirely convinced they didn't just serve us the same dish and just added red food dye to one. I also asked for mine medium spicy (this in itself was odd as I've never been asked how spicy I'd like my dish before in any Indian restaurant) and it wasn't even slightly hot. This is the second Indian I've had in the states and both have been disappointing and nothing like Indian in the UK, think I'll just be avoiding it from now on.

Enjoyed the meal a lot

By Claire L |

This was my first visit and I was very well fed. There is a great selection of authentic Indian dishes and a great choice of vegetarian. The staff were friendly and attentive. Great value for money.

Fantastic

By Nathan Y |

Just had an early dinner with my wife and it was fantastic. We had samosas, chicken tikka masala, another chicken dish my wife can’t remember the name of and paneer naan. Very filling, very tasty and would definitely recommend.

Awesome Indain Food

By Prostil |

I love the food it was spicy and delicious the best food I could eat in SF. Most of the food in US is very bland for us Indians as we are used to lot of spices and hot food. Little Delhi has amassing dishes both veg and no-veg. I would not recommend the veg food but non-veg you will not miss India.

Nice restaurant good food and great service , though I had better Indian restaurants . I had the lamb and it was very

By Roi |

The lamb curry was very spicy but the chicken vindaloo was great....I had better Indian food before but it's decent price and the total bill was 30$ for both of us

Great meal and good value

By Number96 |

Food was tasty and the right amount of spice. Garlic naans, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and lamb curry all enjoyed. Great value.

Mediocre at best

By Scott |

Entirely average. Chicken tikka masala was ok. The chicken was overcooked and dry, but the sauce was tasty. Garlic naan was okay to, but a little bit rubbery. The price was reasonable. I won't be back. Nothing special. The bathroom was filthy. That fact is what pushed to a two-star review.

Tasty daal and rice

By preeti l |

Meals are good here. Not far from nob hill. We had lunch, dinner. Place is usually full of folks..not far from union square. After sightseeing we used to flock this place to meet our voracious needs:) San Francisco has few indian restaurants and this is one of them. The vegetarain meal has chickpeas curry which is a delicious concoction of spices!

Great taste and quality

By jagudelo64 |

food is great! tika massala, tandori, curry and Korma all great tasting and deliciously well prepared! Shrimp, chicken and lamb are superb!!! you can ask for medium hot if spicy is a problem for you, but if not, go with regular! I have visited them tow years in a row, always great close to union square and market street Ambience and atmosphere is very relaxed and casual.

Nice food

By Rishi G |

Food was very nice. Very very nice.... Staff was not too friendly... but ok... Location is awesome too. I highly recommend this joint.

Great authentic experience

By theseoldroads |

While it's in a sketchy location of town, the food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. It's a busy little place, but service is quick and your food comes just as quickly. The lamb vindaloo is awesome. All the plates are great for sharing, bring friends!

Never Miss India

By Milind D |

When you travel to USA and visit San Francisco, after all the sight-seeing,night-clubbing,shopping and savoring American fare, if you feel nostalgic, a visit to Little Delhi Restaurant,83 Eddy St, San Francisco, CA 94102-2821 is a must. The delicious Indian food with true flavour is amazing and so is the ambience, interiors and the service.

Very good and authentic indian food

By Aga H |

This is how Indian Food should taste. I ate a great Curry here. It was tasty and full of spices and flavours. The meat was soft and tender. The Price was unbeatable. Around $10 for a Curry. Great Food, fantastic taste, nice atmosphere and Service. I would eat here again. Just bring some time. We waited around 45min for a free table. But it was worth it

Cozy environment, prompt service, tasty food

By Angie-Rx |

Enjoyed an evening meal here while traveling in San Francisco for a conference. The small dining room was packed with folks who looked like locals. Service was prompt and polite. We had chicken Tikka marsala and Lamb Josh Roshan. Both were tender, flavorful, and well seasoned. Garlic naan was a great accompaniment. One of my most enjoyable meals during the trip.

Delicious Indian food in SF

By Dimitrivaz |

Every time I've been, I've had a wonderful meal, but I don't venture far from Chicken Tikka Masala, Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi and Shrimp Curry. The naan is s little fluffy but very tasty and the vegetable Pakoras are nice too! My wife has been there on other occasions and been less than enthused. Whether it was different choices or a different chef, it beats me, and based on the reviews, this place may be a little uneven. Not unusual for an Indian restaurant, but it's been solid every time I've gone, and so I recommend it highly. The sauces are on the complex side and the ingredients seem fresh. What more do you need?

Delicious traditional Indian meal

By Brian S |

We ordered a variety of dishes and shared them among 4 people. The shrimp Korma was to die for! Very good service and food.

Excellent Indian at a Great Price

By sailnola |

While not a standard stop for most tourists, it is for us on every trip to San Francisco. Deeply satisfying butter chicken and spicy eggplant. I wish we had a Little Delhi at home.

Nice Indian Food In USA

By Rakeshamarkhanna |

After a hectic day of sight seeing at Fisherman wharf & Pier 39 we took the tram to Union Square, Got down there and went to Little Delhi Restaurant, It was like a Oasis, we got authentic Indian Food in San Francisco. Being Hungry we ordered the Food which was served promptly. We ordered Dal Makhni, Shahi Paneer , Mix Pakora, Samosa, Butter Nan & Butter Roti. Food was very tasty & we felt as if we are having it in a local restaurant in North India. Food was so tasty & filling that we skipped ordering dessert & instead ordered Tea. Tea was very refreshing. Staff was very energetic & service was Prompt. It was very satisfying to have such tasty authentic food outside India. Recommend tourist visiting San Francisco to visit this restaurant to enjoy good Indian food.

Good food

By Nazimul H |

Good food, Not spicy Indian food, Located very closed to Hilton Hotel Parc 55, Price was not expensive. It was value for money. It was crowded in the weekend

Fantastic

By Sally S |

We went here twice in 3 days while in San Francisco. The food is fantastic, very tasty & you can choose your spice level. It is very reasonably priced and people were still queuing to go in at 10pm which shows it's popularity. I would definitely recommend for value, quality of food and service.

Hit the spot

By Summer W |

I was craving Indian food and this place was well-rated and close by. It looks deplorable from the outside. I wasn't sure I wanted to eat here when I saw it. Once we walked inside though, it was comforting to see several Indian families dining. I'm sure this place had several health code violations but the food was very good and for naan, two entrees, and rice it was $25. Most entrees are $10. Cheap and good. I will say I have had better, but this hit the spot for sure. For two people and two entrees, we were both able to take home leftovers.

Good lunch spot

By Viator45 |

Recently ate there for lunch with a group of four. I had lamb curry with medium spice, but to be honest, I could have had more spice. I think we all agreed we should have bumped up the spice request, so if you go and you're thinking the hot is too hot, you might be mistaken. I also had rice pillau which was quite good, and we shared naan with roasted garlic-delicious! The place was clean, service very good, and the lunch very affordable. I seem to recall getting out of there for well under $20.

Good Indian food

By Keith A |

Nice restaurant near Moscone west. It is not fancy inside but what they lack in decor they make up for in flavor. Very busy on Sunday night but Seated fairly quickly. Not much for conversation but they took our order quickly and provided a free appetizer. It looks like a corn chip and came with a green sauce, a little spicy, and a red sauce, kinda sweet, maybe a tamarind sauce. I tried the Badami chicken, a chef's recommendation. $10.99 and worth every penny. Delicious. Wonderful flavor. Warm and flavorful. Great for a cold night and very filling. I got some garlic naan to eat with it. $2.25 and outstanding. Very fluffy, almost pillow like. Cooed perfectly. I wanted more and more. Went perfectly with the badami chicken. My friend ordered the lamb korma, I got to try it and it was wonderful as well. Not as sweet as he badami chicken but wonderful flavor as well. Lamb was cooked nicely.

great vegetarian options

By jayne444 |

Not the best decor inside but the staff were friendly and cheerful and the food was excellent -very good value - especially for San Francisco -lots of vegetarian choices and good size portions

Cheap

By b_nestor2 |

We came here for lunch during a conference at the Hilton on O'Farrel. It is reasonable priced, cheap prices on the lunch deals, but I got what I paid for. I got a good portion of naan bread and rice, but I only got 3 chunks of chicken, a meager salad and a 3 pieces of paneer in the vegetable curry. Main dishes looked bigger. I'd probably spring for the entire lunch meal instead of the lunch combo if I ever end up here again. Was fairly standard Indian fare, nothing amazing. Nothing terrible, but I'd prefer to go elsewhere in the future.

Surprisingly great

By Stephen R |

You wouldn't think it to look at it, but this is one of the best restaurants in the Union Square area of San Francisco. It looks a bit grubby on the outside, but it is worth going inside. The service was very friendly and helpful. The waiter was quick to advise that we wouldn't need to all order rice as there would be plenty in two portions. He also took care to make sure that I understood the spice levels of choosing "hot". The food was really excellent. There was also a good selction of Indian beers to accompany the food. I would definitely go back. Judging by the way the phone was ringing off the hook, and the number of delivery men, I am not the only person who enjoyed Little Delhi.

Fabulous Food and Service!

By Rebecca D |

The food was fabulous, and other than the initial wait to order, service was great as well! I was a little surprised that rice/naan was not included with curry dishes, but were an additional $2. That wasn't clear in the menu nor told to me by the waitress. Great overall, and I would definitely return!

Made Me Like Indian Food!

By Kimbers08 |

I am not what you would call an adventurous foodie. I am cautious and calculating when it comes to what I eat. In the past I have had a few bad experiences with Indian food and swore off the stuff forever. Fast forward about 10 years and trying Little Delhi made me realize what I had been missing. Their dishes are amazing and I crave them now all the time. They turned a closed-minded woman from hating Indian food to LOVING Indian food. I don't live in the city anymore, but I return time and time again to this spot. As a bonus, their windows are mirrored, so during the day you get a nice show of people looking at themselves, picking their teeth, making faces, etc. in the mirrors, never realizing people can see them.

Good location but average food

By artee_rana |

I had a chance to have lunch here I was staying nearby but I found food was very average type. I guess chef is not an Indian as it happens in many cases and that is why Indian touch was missing in food. But price of food was very reasonable as compared to other places ..I wish food also had been good.

Great Indian food!

By NancyKonter |

Great Indian food! Alak paneer was the bomb. The garlic naan was fluffy and perfect. Gulab jamin was yummy. Quick service.

Great Budget Indian Near Powell St Station

By Traflagar |

Hole in the Wall Indian with good food & affordable prices. just round the corner from Powell St Station. It will get full on a Fri/Sat night with a wait. My husband eats here weekly on business. Rice is extra so we ordered naan instead. The vegetable Korma is fabulous.

Solid Indian Cuisine

By TheTravelHawks |

Chicken Tikka Masala was great, jasmine rice was terrific. The only downside was the Naan; it was warm and the plain naan was good, but the Special bread naan was a disappointment. Service was great, and they do takeout. Near the Hilton. I would go again as the value for the $ here are excellent!

Excellent Indian food

By André V |

Food is excellent! Good quality for money. Quite crowded but they offer a huge selection of Vegetarian dishes.

went with friends for dinner here on a whim. there is another indian restaurant directly across but we decided we give this one a try. walking in, you smell incense-- they have it going by the front of the restaurant. the food is ok, not bad but nothing great. i would come back again though-- service the same.

Best Indian Food I've Had

By Charles And Kri... B |

My sister and I were in San Francisco for a few days, and we both love Indian food. We stopped in at Little Delhi, as it was close to our hotel. We ordered Butter Chicken and something else, and the reason that I don't remember the "something else's" name was that the Butter Chicken was so decadently amazing that the other very good entree paled in comparison. Let me make very clear that the other dish (might have been Palak Paneer) was amazing as well, but dang, people....the Butter Chicken was so extraordinary that we could talk of nothing else. The service was lovely, the atmosphere is plainish but still nice, and also very clean. Eat there. That is all.

Good place for authentic North Indian Food

By Alok_Bahl |

Go here for authentic North Indian food in a cosy setting which does not burn a hole in your pocket. Reasonably priced and very good food. Lots of homeless people milling around this area but don't let that stop you from going here for a hot, tasty meal.

Good Quality Food - Reasonable Price

By AndrewS666_666 |

We arrived at around 7:30. Place was packed (good sign) but the service was prompt, friendly and attentive. We had two pretty standard courses - the Butter Chicken and the Lamb Rogan Josh with both roti and naan bread and some rice. Food came out in reasonable time. Both were good quality (not he best I had ever had but adequate). Bill came to $32 which was pretty good value for two people. I would go there again.

Really good food!!

By Peter L |

Wonderful. Truly wonderful. Nice menu, just the right quantity on the plates. Well seasoned. Perfect staff. They really deserved our tip. I'd recommend this place to everyone!

Good Indian restaurant in the city center

By Rajesh K K |

Good Indian restaurant in the city center. I went there for dinner and ordered some veg side dish with rotis. The quantity and taste was good. Service was also fast. Serves beer and wine but no liquor

A little gem!

By Timbeau67 |

Wow, great food, great service and a great price for a central location in San Francisco! The atmosphere was great, suits all, families with small children enjoying delightful foods. The outside of the building does not do it justice, a warm welcome from the staff and a very friendly atmosphere. Service was attentitive and at a good pace, the staff do really well to make it a pleasant experience. The food was excellent, good quality and cooked to your requirements and great value for money, highly recommended!

Best Indian food in the area

By Charles S |

I sampled Little Delhi, New Delhi, and Chaat Corner and I liked Little Delhi the best. Don't know if it's most authentica or not but the taste is what I'm used to.

Dal Makhani is good. Rest is OK.

By pivaturi |

We did a carry out on Christmas Eve. The food is nothing to rave about. The Dal Makhani was good. But the Paneer Chilli was a let down. Food was warm on a chilly winter night.

Best curry I have ever had ...I have had eaten lots.

By Anne R |

This place is fantastic just had the best curry ever ...the garlic nan was also the best I have ever eaten so tasty. The place is spotless, the staff are excellent . Prices are also very reasonable. Make sure you go if in San Francisco.

Great food!

By Rachel A |

The best Indian I've ever had. Super tasty and great freshness. It's in a central location in Union square and offers something different for the area.

Yummy food!

By Jameelee G |

The food was delicious! Great portion sizes aswell. Nothing worse when you get all sauce & no meat but that's definitely not the case here! The staff are really friendly and attentive. The restaurant was full & had people waiting for tables which is a good sign of good food.

Got sick after eating here

By DowPmb |

We chose this place based on TripAdvisor reviews and were disappointed. We both had upset stomachs after eating here and we're not those people that have sensitive stomachs. The starters arrived quickly but they took so long with our mains that we thought they had forgotten about us in the corner. People that arrived after us were getting their meals before us. After the reminder, the Butter Chicken came out quickly but the portion was small (with literally 4 or 5 small bits of chicken in) and the flavour was mostly of Tomato. We wondered if maybe they had run out of butter chicken and scraped the pot to combine it with some tomato dish. I have no idea but for the price, it definitely wasn't worth it. We left disappointed and when we went to the bathroom the next morning, we felt even worse. Would never go back. Garlic naan bread was good though.

Great Indian Food

By AmandaNYC123 |

We ate here after a long day of walking around after feeling too exhausted to venture much further from our hotel and it was a really great choice. The prices and portions here are great and the service was fast and attentive. I was glad that they asked us about the level of spice we wanted in our meals (none for me, lots for him). Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful, the coconut chicken rasala was a little sweeter than I'm used to, but I ate every bite. It's a great value for your money.

Good location - Okay Food

By LetsTravelForFun |

I was craving for Indian food for months, and so happy to find this restaurant which is not far from our hotel and in walking distance. We decided to try as we saw many indian inside means this is must be authentic food! The place was packed over 50's seat only couple left. The service was average. We liked the crackers with chutney and tamarind sauce. Yummy! I think the chutney to runny, need more thick. We picked Assorted Tandori Platter : An assortment of Chicken Tikka, Lamb Seekh Kabab, Fish Tikka. The Chicken and Fish Tikka was very different tasted then any flavor we tried in other Indian Restaurant. However still good. The Lamb Seekh Kabab we think it's too over powering flavor. The Aloo Paratha - Paratha bread stuffed with mildly spiced potatoes & peas. Almost similar tasted with samosas. I don't particular like this one. Overall still filled my craving.

Average

By Tarun S |

Nothing special. Average food Decent services Normal vibe Reasonably priced Opens late promptly brought out food. Staff are pleasant. We found the food average compared to other restaurants

Delicious!

By jennifer h |

We ordered take out from grubhub. Everything was very very good. We had garlic naan times 2, that I am still thinking about and craving! We also had chicken vindaloo, butter chicken and my husband I believe also had Tikka masala. Flavors were just absolutely amazing and hit all the spots! Wish we didn't live so far away or we would be eating from here regularly.

Fantastic Indian Restaurant

By Denise A |

Fantastic service, very quick to organise a table and great with the kids. The food was very tasty indeed, all cooked in front of you. The atmosphere was lovely too and there were lots of Indian people eating here. Always a good sign. Great restaurant, great food.

Excellent Introduction to Indian Cuisine

By Emily W |

From start to finish, my visit to this restaurant was excellent. We were seated promptly and had prompt service all night. Need water? Bam! Water. Need a waiter? Bam! Waiter. Need the Check? Bam! Check. The waiters were so attentive, and they worked as a team, which was unique and made the experience so much more enjoyable. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Special Naan Bread, and my brother had Chicken Curry with plain naan. It was so delicious!!! And the presentation was flawless. I absolutely recommend this place!

Solid Indian place, Very inexpensive for the area

By Steve R |

Solid Indian food in an area that has lots of Indian restaurants. Not great, but good, and good size portions and inexpensive for SF. Good choice for before the theater, wandering around Union Square, or just walking the town.

At the Bay District

By Chetan Kanakia |

Quiet Indian as welcomed with a Ganesha pictures is nostalgic after a hectic business trip more north. Food is tasty and Thursday dinner time finds this place brimming with locals and tourists alike. If in neighbourhood could try this place for a freshly cooked Indian curry meals.

In a way

By Munquee |

There was a queue outside but didn't have to wait long for a seat Indian diners present so that was a good sign We had the lamb curry and daal Both very tasty dishes Daal was made from large yellow split peas and had a charcoal grill flavor to it, quite yummy Pleasant service simple decor All in all a good suburban Indian where it is the food that matters

Rude waiters, badly managed, avoid

By Jiri K |

We made a reservation in this restaurant, which they could not find upon our arrival. We had confirmation printed out by the hotel with the name of the person who confirmed the reservation, but the waiter said it does not mean anything. The waiter was rude and clearly not being able to handle reservations as other customers were having similar problems. We were turned away, but would not stay anyway as the atmosphere was really bad and people unfriendly. Avoid this place.

Nothing special

By Sunny F |

The food was okay but nothing special. Wouldn't recommend. They started cleaning while we were there, so we rushed to get out of there. Too bad.

Excellent food

By ISONirvana |

We were hungry for Indian food and were looking up a place that we could walk to from our hotel. We found Little Delhi and were so impressed with it. Our culinary journey in San Fran had been less than impressive (with the exception of Sanraku) so far so it was a welcome surprise. Each dish was full of its own unique flavors (sometime bad Indian food can all taste the same). The naan and rice was delicious as well.

Really good Indian food

By Gregory Paron |

If you're looking for some Indian food here in San Francisco. This is a good place to go. Good value and great portion sizes. I had the butter chicken and my wife had one of the vegetarian dishes. We both asked for not spicy. My butter chicken was great however my wife's dish was very spicy for some reason. Nevertheless they were good. We also got a side of rice, naan bread and each had a Indian mango Lassi and that was delicious! Would recommend if you are looking for Indian food.

Great Indian Food

By MaRi |

This restaurant offers great authentic Indian Food for low budget travelers. The area is a bit scruffy, but it's definitely worth to go there. Highly recommend Butter Chicken with rice and garlic and chili naan.

Best Authentic Indian

By DrewNorwich |

After paying for overpriced dinners nearby this excellent Indian became my dinner location of choice for all the following nights. Authentic, tasty and good service. Thank you. I'll be back next time in town.

was fine nothing special

By MikeBirdman |

Service is prompt and pleasant. the menus is run of the mill. The papadams that arrived were soggy. I had the lamb rogan josh, a mixed vegetable and a garlic naan. The main dishes were good. the mixed vegetable has some cheese in it which was fine for me but might surprise a vegan. but nicely cooked. the naan was good. overall fine for a standard indian meal

The best restaurant in San Francisco for the price.

By Richard C |

I visited quite a few restaurants while in San Francisco and I have to say hands down that this one was the best for the price in my opinion. I highly recommend their chai tea and their tandoori chicken.

Excellent

By brijeshmh |

Very nice Indian food served here. One of the best places for Indian food in SFO. Worth every cent. Nice place to dine with family & friends. I strongly recommend.

Authentic local nugget!

By punchbug8 |

So convenient to Parc 55- wasn't sure what to expect. Asthmatics beware- the curry in the air will get you! But oh! Great food- great price for the San Fran Market. A relief to get delish eats for under $50 for the two of us- with a glass of wine each. Highly recommend the Vegetable Korma- savory and satisfying without being overkill on the spice. A local hangout, which is always a good sign. Enjoy!

Yum yum yum!

By Patti R |

unassuming neighborhood joint that smells like heaven inside. Decor and ambiance = nothing to write home about, but the food is absolutely incredible. Veggie korma: nicely balanced and seasoned, rich and creamy. Lam roganjosh = hearty, savory, spicy, delicious! The naan stuffed with chicken was delicious and also unique. Prices can't be beat and the service is quick, efficient and friendly. Highly recommended!

Delicious Indian!

By Sarah M |

Whilst visiting from Australia i decided i wanted to find a nice Indian restaurant for our last night as we were catching up with lots of other friends. despite maybe the outward appearance of this restaurant we were surprisingly delighted. All of the dishes were delicious. service was pretty average, i don't remember seeing the Server again after delivering the food however not really a big deal. delicious food all round. defiantly recommend this to visitors of SF for a delightful cheap eat. !

Good Food

By Slow_Mustang |

Happened to notice this restaurant while walking around the area and came back for dinner. It is an unassuming restaurant with flavorful Indian food at low prices. We ordered medium but even that was too hot for our palette. Would recommend 'mild' for heat. While dining there I saw many people come by for their pick up orders. So, it a popular place among the locals.

Good food

By j0die66 |

We stopped here for a very late lunch; on viewing the interior we were not sure what to expect as it looked extremely shabby, but based on good reviews of the food we decided to stay. Our choices were all vegetarian and all extremely good, with massive portions. Our water glasses were constantly topped up and the service was very attentive though not friendly. Extremely good value for all the food we received.

Affordable and quaint

By Bernard1985 |

This is a quaint little Indian restaurant. We try their chicken tikka masala and it tasted OK. It is not as good as some previous Indian restaurant that we have tried but it is not affordable, especially when you consider that it's location in the heart of San Francisco city, and is as what they say "you get what you pay for". The first time we went it was empty and service was fast. However, when it gets crowded everything slows down substantially. The second time I went there to order takeout, they relatively busier. Waiters and waitresses will walking up and down doing relatively simple task. After waiting for over 10 minutes and unable to get the attention of the staffs, I left...

The smell was amazing

By jdland |

My daughter found this restaurant on-line near our hotel. We love Indian food, so stopped by. The smell of the food was overwhelming...The bread was fantastic, and our meals were A++. If your in the area and are seeking real Indian food, I highly recommend Little Delhi Restaurant

Authentic Indian Cuisine

By Angela3950 |

Looking for an Indian restaurant within walking distance to Union Square Hilton and Little Delhi was about three blocks away. Very busy the night we went but we got a table immediately and menus soon after. We order familiar dishes, Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, rice pillau and naan. Absolutely delicious-wonderfully cooked, spicy (your choice, just ask) and attractively served. Our server had a good sense of humor and made us feel very welcome. We will be back on our next holiday trip.

Fast through-put commercial Indian

By Jimi31 |

The restaurant is in a good location close to Union and has a high number of customers on the weekend so if you are a large group, best to book. Having said that expect to be in-and-out in around an hour for a couple. We ordered Vegetable Pakora for starter with the complimentary Popadoms. Main course of Butter Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala with Pilou rice, Naan and Paratha breads. Overall all the food was fairly good except for the Lamb which was in fact not Tikka and more like Mutton which had clearly been cooked at best the day before, had never seen any Tikka marinade and just 'thrown' into the Masala sauce. I guess the cook had not pre-cooked any Lamb Tikka as the couple next to us ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and it looked better. The Chicken in our Butter curry was also more like scraps than chunks. So my advice is to stick to popular dishes or sizzling dishes where everything is visible as all is designed to get you in and out as fast as possible to get the next customers in. Overall the food is reasonably good but expect to be treated as a 'punter'.

Mixed experience

By Khushboo S |

We ordered the below items - Lamb curry Chicken curry Tandoori chicken Veg biryani Aaloo tikki Paneer makhni Garlic naan Plain roti Tea Chicken served smelled weird. We ordered tandoori chicken and had to return it back due to the foul smell. The restaurant gave us tandoori platter as a replacement. But to our disappointment, chicken still had the same issue. Lamb and fish in the platter were good. Vegetarian dishes were all good. They said their chicken was cooked in raw charcoal, hence the smell. Ok service for an ok price, food not worth the hype.

A bit disappointing.

By Tim_Bright |

We were really looking forward to our dinner and maybe expectations were too high. The food was fine but not great, some of the dishes were way too salty for us. I think we could have found better.

Great Indian food

By Tommy211 |

Very good food, great service and plenty in a serving. Is a short walk from market Street so perfect after a day of shopping or sightseeing.

A little bit of Delhi in the center of San Francisco

By Duhhg |

I must say I was completely surprised by just how good this restaurant really is after reading other reviews. We stopped in on a rainy Saturday evening before going to the theater. The setting is casual but very cozy and inviting with dark wood and deep color tones. The waiters give the place an air of old world charm with white shirt, black slacks and full-length white aprons. They were all as charming as they were efficient, offering advice and recommendations and service was extremely solicitous and considerate as well. We had more than we could eat for an unbelievably low price. First we were presented with a complimentary plate of papadam with red and green sauces. For an appetizer we ordered the samosas which arrived steaming hot on a bed of chickpeas and sauce. The center was light and fluffy but richly-flavored potato and peas covered in a flaky pastry. The tandoori chicken is served with a platter of fresh salad of greens and tomatoes with slices of lemon and dressing. The large portion of half chicken cut into prices was smothered on a sizzling platter of grilled onions and green peppers with more fresh lemon wedges. A side dish of basmati rice with saffron green peas and grilled onions was also an excellent addition which was perfect with the spicy sauced prawns. One order of garlic naan was more than enough for two but good enough to request more! All in all, for Indian food lovers, we had not a single complaint about the food, the service or the atmosphere! In fact, it is our new favorite place and we can't wait to go back to try many other dishes!

Nice Indian food

By GaryF-71 |

Fancied a curry and discovered this place on TripAdvisor. As it was near my hotel, I thought I'd give it a go. I had the Chicken Vindaloo, which was very spicy, at my request. Great value and tasty, so will definitely go again.

Great takeaway food

By SKrazz |

We walked to this restaurant from our hotel and ordered takeaway. It was prepared quickly and we were given complementary coffee while we waited. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Nice food , vegetarian also with good service

By Kapil Kj |

You can have all Indian food here vegetarian or non vegetarian , the prices are reasonable & in buffet ( 11.30 am - 2 pm ) the prices are really cheap . The quality & taste of the food is very good . Enjoy .

Worst Indian Food I had outside India

By Ayan_salto |

One of my worst experience with Indian foods. This place is simply a no go if you are looking for real Indian food. The service is very very slow. I ordered vegetable pakoda, Channa Masala & Alu Paratha. Vegetable Pakoda was basically onion in batter of wheat (Oniion fry), Channa Masala was just horrible, Alu Paratha was a bit ok. Overall very bad food Indian food for 18 bucks.

Outstanding

By Kaylee B |

The food and service were fantastic. Poppadums were complimentary and delicious. Ordered Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo and Aloo Gobi. Everything tasted amazing. Was way too much food for the two of us, but we wanted to try everything. Wish we had more time left in the city to eat more meals here. Husband and I both loved it.

Very good vegetarian options

By Rsesha |

Usually Indian food is famous for its vegetarian options but making it well is another matter. Little Delhi is very good in that respect. I ate there last night at the bar table since the restaurant was so full. I ordered the Aloo Gobhi and rotis. It was well cooked and had an authentic taste. The prices were very reasonable. The service was fast and they were attentive. All in all, a very good place!

Delicious, authentic Indian

By crimsonowl |

Just off Union Square, this small restaurant offers inexpensive and delicious Indian classics. The curries are all flavorful, and the naan is the best I've ever eaten. Service was efficient and friendly; there was no wait for a weeknight dinner.

Nice Dinner, Nice Price

By Robert P |

This is a small place near Union Square and is far more affordable than most places in the area. I found SF restaurants very expensive, But here we had some very good Lamb in Coconut Curry ($11), lamb curry chef's recommendation. Good lamb cooked properly in a luscious curry sauce, rice, naan, and Indian beer for $31. It isn't atmospheric but the service is friendly and the food is good. For this area it is a good value.

Tasty an good

By Yossi P |

Nice relaxing atmosphere, with good service. The food arrived quickly and was very good. Prices are good and certainly will come again.

Awesome indian food!

By ClaudiaCalvet |

You know you are in a good place for indian food if you see indian people around! Very good good food, fair price! Love the garlic naan, and the chicken rasala, a yellow curry with coconut and that I cannot find in any other indian place!!

Great food

By Tana_NB_87 |

I got chicken masala, and the price and portion was very good. Also, I was glad that the guy asked us about the level of spice we wanted in our meals.

Above average

By ns1991 |

Had a dinner here while on a business trip. A glass of wine, two samosas and a curry. $48 with tips. Decent service, food pretty good overall. Was mostly empty on Tuesday night. Kinda expensive for what you get, I think. Pretty much everything is extra - from naan to rice for the curry (really?) All in all, a good, if not outstanding, place to get a dinner. If you go - maybe skip the appetizers and just get an order of naan for the table.
