We had a group of 9 so we went to eat around 4:30pm on a Saturday. Got right in...they bring your salads to the table while the seat you at picnic tables. Everyone's steak was cooked correctly. The child's chicken fingers meal was huge as were the margaritas. We all enjoyed the whole experience. Don't expect a Morton's style steak dinner - come for fun and good food and you won't be disappointed!

Good, tasty, perfectly prepared steak. Service is always excellent. This is one of the only places remaining (as far as sit-down restaurants go) where a business man/woman can take a client for a good, reasonably priced lunch and be in, out and back in the office in one hour or less. Excellent salad (served within two minutes of sitting down and they always seat you immediately regardless of the number of people in your party) a great baked potato with all of the fixin's or fries if you prefer and a great steak. This is an old school, Texas steakhouse... a destination restaurant that every local should visit and also entertain out of town guest too. Always a treat and definitely a good value. When you have been to the restaurants on the Riverwalk and those at El Mercado, (no problem here.. lot's of great Tex-Mex food to try), the Little Red Barn is a nice change of pace and is only a five minute drive from downtown. They have served over one-thousand steaks daily for over fifty years... enough said! Now, go get yourself a great steak and baked potato!

The steaks are amazing. Had a 16 oz ribeye and it was cook perfectly. Baked potato was very flavorful. If you wanting a great steak cook perfectly. This is the place.

The service, food, atmosphere were all excellent. Worth visiting again when in San Antonio, TX. You did not go home hungry.

If you like western motif with 6 shooters on cowgirls than this is your place. Steaks were thin cut, over-cooked and under seasoned. Salads come out quick with individual cups of salad dressing. More than what the table could use. I think they recycle the salad dressings, no matter how long they were out because a mom and son got sick. Stick with the oil and vinegar. Overall for the price of the meal, and the cab fare from downtown...a wasted dining opportunity.

There is no better meat than Texan meat. The Little Red Barn is a San Antonio institution for the best steaks.

We had a 12 oz ribeye & 20 oz porterhouse...delicious! Staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun! Great place for families and we're on a Paleo diet, so it was perfect!

Walk in and you are greeted by a smiling, gracious hostess who will show you to your table and serve you a fabulous salad and pitcher of ice tea immediately. They can handle large groups (20+) with zero wait time. This place is huge and the hospitality is extraordinary. They take your order within five minutes and serve you a perfectly grilled Angus Beef steak within ten minutes. You can be in and out in 30 minutes or less which is great for a quick business lunch or dining with antsy kids. Food quality is superb.... salad dressings are made in-house and steaks are hand-cut by their butcher. Prices are reasonable too. They have a bar so beer, liquor and wine are available. These are nice people with an excellent staff serving perfectly grilled steaks (and chicken and fish) every time. It is casual... (a different environment than Ruth's Chris or Mortons).... kind of a Texas Road-house vibe. It is reasonably priced too. Try'em out... you will have a great experience!

I like this restaurant because it can accomodate my large family and serve good steaks pretty fast. The service is great the cowgirl waitresses are very good and friendly. The space is big and we can fit large families. The steak selection is pretty good and prices are reasonable.

First time I've been to this place. Went with another couple. Very busy, but servers were able to keep up well. Good, not great steaks for a reasonable price. Would go bacj

This place sounded cool and had some history behind it. I figured it would be better than eating with all the tourists on the river. It was big and no wait. They bring you a salad immediately which is pretty convenient. The steaks were not good though! They were cooked to the wrong temp and also it looked like they were done on a typical restaurant flat grill. Like a dennys steak. They were also very thin. It made me feel really good about my grilling skills though. I’m glad I tried it but I wouldn’t go back or recommend it.

On the road going coast to coast, stopped here for a superb dinner. The meal, service and atmosphere were AWESOME!! The whole family really enjoyed it!!

The Little Red Barn was a favorite BBQ place for my wife when she was growing up especially for their Green Goddess Dressing. Many years later I joined her at this wonderful place and for me the food was excellent as was for my wife, however, she was focused on the green goddess dressing which still had the same flavor. Love this place

My family & I were all dressed up to go to another place, but when the wait was over an hr we walked out. My wife saw this place from the I-10 fwy & decided to go ahead & check it out. The prices are a bit on the high side, but the atmosphere was great & made for a story to tell our grands

Wouldn't have found this 'mostly locals' steak house if weren't for our Uber driver's recommendation. Kinda kitschy western atmosphere but fast & friendly service with a variety of decent cuts of steak for the price. A wide array of portion choices (ounces) also span the menus' steak selection, depending on how hungry you are. Included salad is perfunctory, baked potatoes are good and large, and there's homemade lemonade to wash it all down. For the time spent & price point, would definitely go again.

I been coming here since I was a kid my parents would bring me here when they wanted a good stake baked potato & salad, now I keep the tradition going & I'm never disappointed. Good service & good made fresh just the way you want it.

It has been 25+ years since I had been to Little Red Barn, but it was really close to the Alamodome and perfect for our schedule of events. Our waitress took VERY good care of us throughout our stay. But there are some other things that need some work. First of all, we were seated next to the kitchen. Just know that there was no doorway to the kitchen in this particular dining room. You are NEXT to the open-air concept kitchen. Okay in my home, not okay in a big restaurant. We were provided with iceberg lettuce salads. People, it's time to update your salad with a little more green. My iceberg was very pale, and one can only eat so much of it. It is assumed that people know how ordering works here. It's an easy question to ask - "Have you been here before?" We had to ask a couple of people what to do before our waitress arrived and actually explained things. The food was really pretty good. I had the chicken fried steak, my husband had a steak, and my son had a chopped sirloin. All were tasty and filling. There was a healthy crowd here when we came. They seem to enjoy the nostalgia and set-up. I would just suggest there are some easy things that could be adjusted to keep people coming.

Great food and atmosphere, recommended by a hotel staff member for "the best steak and price in town." Very old fashioned back roads place, but excellent food. Cute bar area. Menu's on "chalkboards" placed on the floor by your table. Steak was cooked to perfection; good basic salad; good choice of beer.

We decided to try this restaurant while we were exploring and got a little lost. As a first time patron I was very confused when we first walked in. The person at the door asked how many were in our party and then shouted and signed " two" at the kitchen and the gathering of waitstaff. We walked in and it was like watching an assembly line in their kitchen. Salads were constantly being pushed to the front from a window and so on. Suddenly there was a waiter wearing a hat and plastic gun telling us to follow him. He already had two salads and a basket of plastic containers of dressing so as soon as we sit down he asked us what kind we wanted. After he walked away I was searching for the menu but there was not one. Why, You ask? Because it was on a giant board that he held until we made our choices. We both ordered the ribeye and fried shrimp. The steaks seemed a little pricey but I don't mind paying for quality. Unfortunately, That was not the case. We left most of our food on our plates and stopped by Sonic on the way home. Very disappointing all around.

Nice atmosphere, waitresses are friendly and drees up in western outfits. Not crowded, both times I have been there were seated immediately. Great value for a steak.

Cheap steaks. Another local icon. Been here forever. Fast, good service. Lots of locals. Pretty good steaks, very reasonable. Everyone comes here. Be sure to try the Green Goddess dressing, nobody makes it like this. It ain't fancy, but you should eat here. People keep coming back, including me!

We found this while driving around trying to find the gas station. We immediately decided to stop and eat lunch. Its like the wild west back in the day. Servers in cow girl and cowboy costume. They will serve you salad upon seating, wether you order or not. Price range $10-22 steak and combos. Steak was not Wollensky type but just ok.

we have eaten here off and on since the late 1960's, and for years it was a great place to get a steak, at a reasonable price. the steak is still good, but not great. but the price has gone up and they are not as a "great deal" as it used to be. we also had the shrimp plate, and the shrimp was overcooked, making them tough. there are plenty of steak houses closer by at the same or lower prices. it still has the charm of an old western style steak house, but a bit pricy for its location. it hurts to see it not being the quality it used to be.

I have never written a bad food review. And even hesitated writing this one. But with the good comes bad. I would not recommend or even visit this food establishment again. The food quality was poor to say the least. (Burnt) Price was high.

I had great memories of this place as a child. We went to see what they were like now for my birthday supper. The food is pretty simple. Okay but not great. The salad and rolls were very good. I was underwhelmed by the sirloin steak. Thinly sliced and overcooked. I had a great time because I was with family and friends but I probably won't be back. There are too many other places to try considering my experience.

Overpriced is when you pay for three fried shrimps and a fried fish with one side for $15.00. And that was one of the cheaper plates. It wouldn't be too bad if it came with a 2nd side and a drink. This was lunch time. If you wanted to eat there, either it was going to be fried chicken, steak or fried fish. I didn't see anything healthy there. I also hate their benches with no back support for sitting. It's uncomfortable. I didn't see anything spectacular about this place.

They bring the salad to the table when they seat you. Then bring homemade dressing. Even homemade Thousand Island! They also bring you pitchers of water and soda so they don't have to refill your glasses. I had the sirloin and it was very good. My co-workers said the parmesan mashed potatoes were really good. I opted for the baked potato. There were a lot of employees standing around with nothing to do. Service is not attentive. They never come back to the table to see if you need anything or ask how the food was. The bathroom needs a deep cleaning and the trash emptied.

As a native New Yorker I've travel throughout the US & abroad. My wife & I dined at The Little Red Barn and it was delightful. The food was good, the atmosphere was interesting as it was true to its name "The Little Red Barn". Our waitress, Monica , was very inspiring and also delightful as she clearly stated what was included with each menu item. There were no surprises when our bill was presented. We recommend the restaurant to anyone seeking a real Texas food experience.. Ben & Nancy

This is a great place for meat eaters. Many kinds of steaks are offered, even a 32 oz porterhouse!!! As a vegetarian here with my carnivorous family, I eat the baked potato and salad. It's not my favorite place to eat, but I know that most seem to love it. The service is pretty good and the prices are reasonable.

Took my son for his birthday today. It was Saturday noon and very few customers. My excuses for a ribeye was overcooked, my sons for a sirloin was overcooked. My grandson's order was wrong. Naturally took another 15 minutes for us to get our steaks right. The place is way overpriced for the food and service. Then I brought the the incident to the attention of the cashier not even a simple apology. You be the judge but I'm not returning there for a while if I ever.

The service was great, the steak was awesome. We love the fact that when you sit down at the table, they have already brought you a dinner salad. Prices are good. Will definitely be back.

This place is a quirky place - and we loved it! I always pick the places when we go out to eat, and my husband had that look of "this place looks questionable" when I pulled into the parking lot. Well, he was glad that I picked the place when he saw his steak! Our steaks were both cooked perfectly, along with our baked potatoes! The rolls were delicious and so were the salads! We even had leftovers to share later! Our waitress was very nice as well! Will return if we have a chance!

The neighborhood is not the best, the steaks were a bit over priced. The bread was very good, hot and soft. The staff were friendly and gave good service. We were here for a family bday party and everyone had a place to sit. It is picnic style tables so lots of room to eat and visit. My steak was done to my liking, I had the ribeye. The steaks here are Angus beef if you are picking about your meat. The salads good be better for the price. Overall we would come here again but not very often.

My husband & I ordered the chicken fried steak & chicken fried breast it was delish a must try along with one of my fave sides (bacon/onion) Green beans!

Just one of many average to below average restaurants I visited in San Antonio. Steak was not cooked well enough, not seasoned well enough either. Baked potato was good but real butter would be better than spread service was slow. Never got refill on drinks

Everyone should go once. Food is nothing to brag about, But the building, cowgirls (waitresses) and the menu on the walls make for a place to take out of town guests (if they don't want a good steak).

We were told about this place from a staff member of the Drury Inn and Suites. Had a great dinner, steak was tender and cooked perfectly. Service was excellent, our waitress Regan, took great care of us. If we ever come back to San Antonio we will definitely eat here again!

The atmosphere was very cool. Laid back and def gives you a TX feel! The menus are massive lol literally! The tables for seating were very close but it's nothing that you can't enjoy yourself or family when eating.

We tried this place again after not eating here for over a year. Now I remember why. The service is terrible. The menu is smaller. They no longer serve the filet. Boo! That was the best piece of meat they had. Ordered a club, it was full of fat. No sodas when we went. Another Boo! I was not the only table who's order was sent back. The quality of this place is not how it used to be. I know they redid this place, but the money should have been spent somewhere else. The original owner(Ralph) would be rolling in his grave if he knew how disgusting this place is now. Way to ruin a place that really used to serve such delicious food. I will never ever go back there again. Just because you add televisions doesn't mean food quality and service should go down. Oh and no paper towels in dirty restrooms. This place is done. It will never be what it was ever again. The money we spent for warm salad dressing and fatty steaks was horrible. 55.00 for a family of 4. Do not waste a dollar here . It is not worth it.

Out of town guests love this joint, so we take them. Waitresses in made up cowboy gear and boots are cool to see. You order off of a board and sit at picnic tables. Food is about as good as a cafeteria style, but it is a cool place to see nonetheless. Don't go for quality food...go for atmosphere and ok food.

I hadn't been to the little red barn for about 15 years. Dined there 3 months ago. Salad and bread got to the table at the same time. Food and service was ok. Went back 2 months ago and my shish kabob was cold and tough. The bread was delivered to table way after the meal. Just left the restaurant again today. I ordered the t-bone medium rare. It was well done. My husband ordered his ribeye medium and it was rare. At the prices they charge, they can at least get the order right. The service was poor and we won't be driving one and a half hours to dine there any longer. I star is the lowest I could give otherwise it would be zero.

Hot rolls. Great steak. Good service. Another landmark staple to do in SA. Been going for years. Enjoy.

I came to this place right before we were all going to a Spurs game. This was the first time we visited so we had no expectations. This place has no concept. When you first walked in, you are asked by the host how many people will be eating salads. Before you sit down salads are brought out and the server what kind of dressing you like but doesn't what would you like to drink. We are sitting there with salads in front. No dressing so what is the point in bringing the salads out. The server brings the dressing out and still doesn't take our drink order. Now I am eating a salad but no drink. Also to give an FYI there are no menus you order from a cardboard that gets passed around from table to table. After waiting for about 5 minutes the waitress with a personality of my left foot finally takes our drink order. The only thing that was good was food came out quick however my steak and my girlfriends steak were overcooked. I asked for Medium and it came out Well Done. My Girlfriend asked for Medium Well and came out Well Done. The other 2 steaks my party came out fine because they asked for it well done. With the meal the waitress did not bring us rolls. She did stated she would bring them out right away but they brought out half way through our meal. The last straw was she asked if we would be ok for her to leave a pitcher out on the table. I am sorry but that is part of your job as a server to keep up with refills. There was only 4 of us and she may have had 2 other tables. I may also add the sever hardly ever checked on us to make sure we liked our steaks until after the rolls were served. This was my first time and my last time coming here.

Little Red Barn Steakhouse is about as good as it gets! This is a "mom & pop steakhouse" and not your franchise steakhouse. Black Angus steaks are served. Great food with fast and friendly service. Your salad is served in a cold pewter bowl and it will beat you to your table. Steaks are also served on hot pewter platters. Homemade hot rolls are also in order. Check out the large menu on a large red plywood sign. Large selection to choose from including seafood. I ordered a 20 oz. porterhouse steak (really large T-Bone and my wife got the medium ribeye and both were great.

As you approach the building it is not impressive, but obviously they've spent in all the right places. Immediately upon entering we were greeted, and taken to our table. Yes, it is a picnic table. I wasn't there for the decor, so that really didn't bother me. A Server followed just minutes after we were seated and took our orders. Each of us (3) had a different steak, and one had shrimp. They got it all right! Which is so rare in restaurants these days. We picked off each other to sample different items, and they were all delicious and the meats so tender. For four full meals and drinks, we spent just under $100. That was tip included. I was visiting the area, but this is a MUST if you're in town.

we went once never again, did not have good wine or beer. Food was ok not great. Service was good. But our steak was rare had to send it back and beer was in a cold glass but hot when u drank it

The food and ambience at this resturant is very over the top western. The waitresses wear little skirts with leather fringe, six guns with holsters, cow boy hats and boots. They have worn the same outfit for about 35 years or more. You sit a picnic tables painted red and the walls are red. The menus are on chalk boards placed on the ground in, next to your table. All the food is served on old pewter plates and bowls. As soon as you walk in someone directs you to follow a cow girl holding up your salad on a tray for who knows how long it sat on the tray without refrigeration. The steaks are a bit tough, no special cuts of beef here. It's ok to eat here once, but not on a regular basis.

This was a bland, so so place to eat. As one of my colleagues stated, “when you walk in and see costumes the quality is probably not high caliber.” This place needs a serious refresh and the outfits the staff wear are tacky. Food is cooked well but bland. We won’t be back.

My husband and I have been going to this place for years. It is always consistent. Friendly service and quick. They immediately serve a nice salad with their own dressings. After that they take your order. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, the rolls are delicious and baked potatoes were hot, as they should be. Couldn't be more pleased.

Serving lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Located minutes from downtown on the near Eastside, about mile and half from Alamodome on Hackberry. Easy access off I-10/US90, take the Pine Street exit. We went middle of the week, had a wonderful time celebrating my dad's 86th birthday. Good food, timely service, attentive waitress. The chopped steak is a really good price and cooked well.

I ate a country fried steak with a loaded baked potato that came out really quick. Our server was friendly and food I ate was good.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. E very thing was great. U have your salad, drinks and food, need I say moreee!

I have eaten at the Little Red Barn for years as I would be in San Antonio at least twice a year for conventions. The service is always consistent. Our server was Shelly. She was there almost as soon as we were seated. We quickly had our drinks and salads. The order was taken and was out in a short time. We both had the 10 oz. Chopped Steak smothered with cheese, onions and pepper. A side was included. My wife had the loaded Baked Potato. and I had the Green Beans. I suggest you order the Green Beans as you get a large order and they are well seasoned. Shelly was always there check to see if we needed anything and keeping our teas refilled. The place has great food and service. It is worth the effort to go and eat here. It is a San Antonio classic.

The Red Barn has been a favorite for several years now. The menus are on large boards that they lean up against a nearby table so everyone can see. The seaters, wear six-shooters and the waitresses wear cute little red, white and blue cowgirl outfits that makes the place fun. We had ribeyes and they were TENDER and VERY good. They didn't disappoint again. I will continue to go to this restaurant as long as they're around! Thanks for another great dinner!

To start out, everyone gets a salad when you sit down. Salads have gradually gotten smaller and there are no more club crackers. You get rolls with your meal. They use to be bricks but now are pretty good. The food is still good, but like everything else, the price has increased. There use to be a more cowboy/cowgirl vibe but that seems to be going away. It still is a fun place to eat, but it has lost some of it's luster.

what can anyone say about this great place to enjoy a great steak. hostess friendly and service was the best. Mercedes was a great server.

This has to be the worse steak I have ever tasted. All four in our party ordered medium rare steaks. When we were served our steaks, they were all cooked differently. Two came out very rare, one was medium well, and one was medium. In addition they were all cold and flavorless. When I told our waitress that one of the steaks was too rare, they took it back into the kitchen and brought out a new piece of steak cooked medium rare, hot and flavorful. I don’t know it can go from so bad to so good. Our waitress and her supervisor profusely apologized and said that we should have told them earlier that the steaks were bad. Being our first time, we just thought that this was how they served their steaks.

I Like that you now pay your server instead of waiting in line at register. In the past. They brought BOTH types of dressing to the table with your salads brought ;but you do get to choose anyway. My wife's steak was even better than our last visit and I enjoyed my grilled pork chop dinner although the steak fries were pedestrian at best. ( I would stick with the baked potato.) but the meat is what is important here and that was spot on as was our server. The LRB has got to be the fastest steakhouse around! We were in and out in less than an hour and our dinner for 2 was $28.

A friend/co-worker once told me he'd eaten there and it was real good, and since we go by it all the time, and traffic was stifling, we decided to give it a try! It was surprisingly good, in fact the green beans were the best I have ever had!! The steak was delicious and cooked exactly as requested, the salad was on the table when we were seated, and was good, as were the fresh/hot rolls. As for ambience, it is an "old-time" steakhouse, wait staff dressed as cowgirls, and it is a barn/steakhouse, I enjoyed it, as did my friends/co-workers, one had a chopped steak, the other a 12 oz sirloin, he said he'd hoped it'd been thicker...but hey, mine was a 9 oz sirloin and it was great....neighborhood may seem a bit iffy, ...but the parking lot is always full and seemed ok to us .... it was a good meal in an old steakhouse, just what we were looking for!

Perfect Sunday lunch before heading back home. We were quickly seated and served our side salads. We make our selection of chicken fried steak with baked potato and a side order of sweet potato fries. Gotta love that they bring you your own pitcher of tea to the table so you can refill your glass yourself as needed. The food came quickly and love the homemade salad dressing for the salads. We will for sure stop here when were are back in town for a visit.

The food is good, but not great. The service is fast and the surroundings are western. It's good for a one time visit, but there are better steak places in San Antonio.

When you enter the first thing they ask is "do you want a salad". How about a seat first? It's all about speed efficiency here. With the decor and servers outfits it felt like a 6 year olds birthday party. Thomas was a great server in a bad restaurant. The food was blah. I would say sub standard for a steakhouse. The sides came out cold. Good steak but for $30 I should have had better.

I have heard about this restaurant for many years and finally made it there. It was exactly what I expected. Very Texan from the decor to the food. The fried shrimp are wonderful along with the steak. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly and very tasty. For gluten free, salad, steak, veggies, potatoes. We definitely will be back! Thanks to Nancy and staff for keeping on original San Antonio family restaurant operating!

Ordered the country fired steak and the meat was very grizzly and tough. Over priced for the quality. Service was rather slow and somewhat disorganized. Waitress seem not to care who got what.

Absolutely terrible. If I could give it zero stars, I would. We went because everyone kept saying this was the place in San Antonio to take our new airman for a great steak. What a joke. $32 for a steak worse than what you’d get at a basic chain restaurant for half the price. Ribeyes were paper-thin, bland, and one was so tough my son couldn’t even eat it. The salad was laughable. I honestly don’t know how this place has five-star reviews — either people have never had a real steak or the bar is incredibly low. Save your money and go anywhere else.

Used to come here often decades ago when I lived in SA. For old time sake I thought I'd give it another go. BAD decision. The food was just OK. I had the 12 oz Ribeye and my buddy had the chicken fried steak. Neither particularly bad nor particularly good. My steak was way too thin and pretty well without seasoning. The real killer was the purely institutional little plastic cups (see photo), with snap on lids of course, in which they served the cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, etc. Much like you'd find from a to-go joint to scholp the condiments with the togo burgers. Really, really poor form LRB. You ought to be ashamed of how far you've fallen. Oh, and the rolls. Did I mention the rolls? Purely pre-fab from a bag. Nasty! By way of a hand written sign on a large chalkboard they brag about being the Biggest Steakhouse in Texas. That may or may not be the case, who am I to say but if they are, big definitely does NOT equate to better What used to be a very quaint and charming dining room is now a great big old flat concrete floor with rows and rows of picnic tables. Thomas Wolfe was right! Definitely NOT recommended.

This place has been here forever.... The hostess stills wears pistols and takes you to your table where a fresh garden salad is quickly on the way. Nothing fancy here... the menu is mostly beef, chicken, and potatoes.. they do have a bar for those who want some alcohol. Great for large parties and celebrations.

It has been years since I last visited Little Red Barn and as I recall, their food was reasonably good. Unfortunately, time has not been kind to them. My wife and I and another couple recently had lunch there and were totally disappointed. I ordered the fried fish which was served in three triangular pieces. No flavor whatsoever. My friend had the country fried steak which tasted like it came from the frozen food section of a grocery store. The other two had salad plates which were nothing outstanding.. The house salad was the hit of the meal. Service was fine. There are so many good restaurants in San Antonio, that I wonder how this place is still in business.

This is one of my husband's favorite places to eat in San Antonio, so needless to say we cannot visit San Antonio without eating at LRB at least once! We had lunch here on a Sunday after Mass with a few friends. We were seated immediately, and a waiter arrived shortly after. We all had steaks, some had baked potatoes with their steaks, we all had side salads and iced tea. The food was good and hot, the service was quick, and the bill was painless. I grew up in San Antonio, and LRB was always there and always and will continue to be a big hit with my family.

My family and I have been eating here for a few years. My dad brought us here as kids. I have never been disappointed at the little red barn. If you are in San Antonio don't miss this treasure.

Well decided to try this place because my customer said it was around the corner from my hotel, food service was fast. Well it was I was greated with a smile, salad....I ordered the Shrimp dinner and let me say that the shrimp for the price did not add up....they tatsted like th gordon fisherman shrimp...and they were small. However I did like the salad, green beans and the bread. I guess one day I will try it out again and have something else however it was ok.

Went for the 1st time tonight in a very long time and Got very strange vibes. Not even sure who our server was but Did I feel right. There's a very limited menu

I think they are losing their charm. Had to ask for a menu board, rolls, and salad dressing. Waitress left a pitcher of tea but nothing for the others that ordered water and didn't come back to refill their water. Food was ok but overpriced.

The experience and the food were awful. It started with the dirty floors, iceberg lettuce in a bowl, and margarine instead of butter. Next the waiter brought us someone else’s order; anyone can make a mistake, but they weren’t busy. The waiter never brought our bread; just as well, I guess. When they brought our actual order, the medium rare ribeye was very rare and the rare ribeye was cold—not even cooked enough to warm the middle. We asked to have the rare steak a little more done, waited, waited, waited and finally had to ask or it. When we got that steak back, it tasted like hamburger meat and was still cold (or cold again after setting). We left most of the food on the table and after some discussion paid only for the food we actually ate—the iceberg lettuce with salad dressing.

Great service, salad is provided as you are seated. Had the ribeye, nice cut of meat and cooked as requested (med. rare). Hospitality was great and staff very helpful.

As soon as your seated, there was a side salad right in front of you which I thought was fantastic. The chopped sirloin and seafood was excellent. This place may not look like much from the outside, but the inside has a great atmosphere with tasty food at the perfect price. We will definitely be back on our next visit.

This is a unique Restaurant, the Waitress ware a cowboy outfit with guns and cowboy hats. There stakes are the best I have ever had. When you get there they sit you down on picnic tables with a salad in there hand. There own home made dressings are so good. I love the Garlic one. then the menus are on the walls all over the restaurant. You get a baked potato or FF. and your Stake that melts in your mouth. They have every kind of stake and they cook it to profection. I love the this restaurant.

Little Red Barn has the whole package. Great service, great customer experience, fun atmosphere, family friendly and a menu that will please everyone. Have a big eater? Their porterhouse is an excellent choice, priced reasonably. For the lighter eater, but still a meat eater, the 6 oz. sirloin is perfect. Very tender and just the right size. The rolls alone will make you want to return and the Green goddess dressing is good on your salad, baked potato, and crackers!!!! It is fabulous and made in-house. They always have a discount for the birthday person in the party!

we had not visited this restaurant in many years but had fond memories of it. Well, it seems you cab never go back. Service was as good as we remembered but the the steaks were terribly lacking. I ordered a 12 oz. T-bone and was served a gray steamed under seasoned steak, it was obvious to me the grill was not hot enough to get a nice sear and crust on the steak. instead the steak steamed itself of its own juices and the results was a gray unappetizing piece of meat.

The food and service was very good. The only downside to this restaurant was the area it is in. Thats not their fault. I am sure in 1962 it was a nice neighborhood. All in all i would definetely go back again and gladly eat there.

Little Red Barn was great! We arrived at 4:30pm on a Saturday and this place was packed. We were told 30 minutes, but only had to wait 10 for a table. This place is simple, no frills, well there are frills on the waitress outfits, but that's anther story. The menu is painted on the wall and on large placards that they carry throughout the restaurant. This place is simple - you get a salad, choice of meat, one side and rolls. Everything we had was delicious and reasonably priced. We would definitely eat here again.

Reasonable prices especially if you go on your birthday. They have great discount! Place is a little dated.

Oh my goodness, I think it's been a while since I've been so disappointed, at such a high price. We celebrated my Cousin's '80th' Birthday and let me tell you, the Club Crackers were probably the highlight of my meal, at least, until the baked potato arrived, a great while after. Moving forward, I decided on the 'Chicken Fried Steak', which was absolutely, awful! It was so, so, very, "TOUGH", it reminds me of a 'Leather Belt', oh, and by the way, I told one of the other guests, I just had to do a review, and she chimed in, "add my name to it", well, needless to say, her steak looked as if it had been cooked hours earlier, seriously, very hard and exceptionally dry. I'm surprised she did not send it back, to where it came from; not sure why I did not send mine back. One of the other guests sent her entree back, secondary, according to her, the Fried Fish was not done. One of the other guest had not received her food, for another great while, and had she been aware that the Chicken Fried Steak was very bad, I'm sure she would not have ordered it, she left most of it on her plate. The food prices are simply outrageous! The salad was pretty tasteless, as were the rolls. My remedy...go somewhere else or eat before you go!

I attended a surprise b-day party for a friend. We had over 50 people & we were seated promptly. The service was super as well as the food. A very relaxed atmosphere.

We happened to just pick this one out of the air as we were staying nearby and didn't know what is in the area. Good food. Quaint atmosphere. Watch the pricing though. The menu prices are deceiving as what the meals come with. Our bill ended up being about $15-20 more than we expected.

We had been told this was one of the best steak houses around so I was very excited to eat some real Texas beef. We were seated quickly and brought a VERY ho-hum salad immediately without asking for any preference or if there was an upgraded version. If you are a salad person, and to me steak and salad are a perfect combo, the salad here is bad. We then all ordered the same meal and while waiting noticed on a board in the back of the room was a sign that said there was a special...4 steak and potatoes dinners were sold at about 10 dollars less. We noted this to the server and she said it was too late to order the special. We were never told about the special and all she had to do was adjust the price...we had already ordered it without being aware we had. Every one did get a good steak except for me, I know it can happen, and it was replaced but by the time I got mine everyone else was finished and ready to leave. I was told I couldn't get a refund that only a replacement was policy. I would never go to this restaurant for a nice dinner with family...maybe lunch and low expectation would be better

Stopped going to this restaurant after they received bad grades during health inspections. Another reason was because they used to rush customers. They still rush customers and the steak was pricey and very blend. Had the same at Texas Roadhouse for lots less and better tasting. We were charged for "loaded baked potatoes", but they were not going to be ready for another 40 minutes so they replaced with French Fries...not fully loaded but still paid for fully loaded baked potatoes.

Gone are the large beautiful salads and satisfying chicken fried steaks. Sad. The worst CFS I've ever had. Not the LRB from my memories. Left in a hurry because of gunfire outside. Neighborhood not safe.

This place use to be a regular place for my husband and I to eat . Well, not anymore. I ordered a club steak with 3 shrimp ...the shrimp were slimmy and they stunck ,the club steak was not a club steak at all it was some stringy piece of meat with no flavor . Disgusting ! The prices all went up too ! We have been going to this place for most all of our lives...Never Again !

We have been eating at the Little Red Barn for about 4 years or so since wintering in San Antonio. The menu is just simple basics and that's what makes it so darned great. The husband always get the chicken fried steak. I love the big hamburger steak. The fries are delicious and the baked potatoes are huge. Hot rolls a plenty are delivered to the table. The atmosphere is what I love too. And of course the western cowgirl outfits and boots the servers wear. It's a must if you're in San Antonio.

The last time I was here was about 5 yrs ago. Boy, it's still as great now as it was then. Its a San Antonio tradition. A must visit when your nearby. I had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. Its popular with the locals. The dress code is casual. The tea is given to you with it's own pitcher. Thus you don't have to wait. The staff is extremely friendly and the prices are average compared to other steak houses. Plenty of parking. It also has a full bar.

Been here a couple of times before. The food is okay and the prices are reasonable. The wait staff is okay. Just an average steakhouse.

We haven’t been there in years, so we didn’t know what to expect. First the good... their salad & dressing was tasty & full of flavor. We ordered country fried steak & green beans. The green beans were the good portion of the meal, while the steak was bland. We also ordered an 8 oz. ribeye, which was about 1/8” thick & a bad cut of meat. It was definitely not worth $19.95. The mash potatoes were bland as well. I don’t think we’ll return.

1st of all the men's and ladys restrooms is nasty and unacceptable they need attention this came from our 11 year old grand son. This kind of establishment needs to tend to the restrooms every hour or at least every 3 hours. This was at 520 p.m. they ope at 5 p.m. All of our food was too salty. I read that in many of the reviews so the manager needs to take care of this issue.. It is a cute place. The services was good. But listen to who gives your restaurant review's or what's the point.

Service is always fast and friendly. Salads usually beats you to the table. Hot rolls are homemade. Wife always gets the medium ribeye medium rare and she was not disappointed. I got the chopped steak and it was delicious. Menu is brought to you on a large red plyboard. Ill put Little Red Barn Steaks up against those other high end franchise steak houses any day. If your budget minded this is the place to go.

I first visited The Little Red Barn in the summer of 1968 while training in the Air Force. It had been decades since I was last there. It is still excellent. We took a friend and had the lovely salad and excellent steaks. It is nice to see a place that has not gone downhill.

This place was recommended because it was not a place a lot of tourist go. The service was a bit slow at first. It took about 15 minutes to get drinks and for someone to take our order. We all had Ribeye steaks. The steaks were basically flavorless and not a great cut of meat. This seems to be a good place to go for large groups because they have a lot of seating but not someplace I would recommend if you want a really good steak.

It's reminds me of my childhood and the way restaurants used to be. Good food, fast service, and reasonably priced and this restaurant hits that on all fronts. Love the steak but I will say the highlight of my meal was the salad with the green goddess like dressing....yum. BTW this place is quick too.

Went for my birthday dinner on a Sunday night. The steak was a little fatty, but good flavor. I guess our waitress blew the experience for us. Dressings were wrong, my husband ordered blue cheese and they don't have it, She gave him 1000 Island and said then, oh, we don't have Blue Cheese. I don't think she even listened to us order, there was so much confusion when I said, the ribeye, medium, mashed potato. We were ignored after that. The food was pretty good, we will be back. Service horrible.

I have to say this place was super cute and I loved their theme. As soon as you sit down the server, who is dressed in a western get up, already has your salad for you, then you order from these big boards that are placed all around and even on one large wall. They will bring it right to your table if needed. I had the fish and my date had the steak. It was not great, my fish was like having Gorton's fish patty at home and the steak was not char-grilled. A great place for family night but not if you truly want a great steak.

This place was recommended by the lady at the car rental at the airport. She was spot on. It really is just a big red barn. The food was delicious. My husband and I both ate the salmon. The baked potatoes come loaded with everything and were just amazing. You must try the cheesecake. It is definitely a 2 person dessert!

Usually, even the most meat-centered restaurant has vegetarian options. I am a vegetarian, so I cannot comment on how well the menu items taste. I only want to mention that the only option available to me was a small house salad consisting of iceberg lettuce topped with half a tomato.

We like coming here for a great steak. Our service was wonderful also. It’s not fancy, but our food is always good. I just wish they had backs on their seats...but the seating is picnic style.

Has a Tex Mex feel to it . Salad was good with garlic dressing. Rolls were good. We all had the steak kebabs and personally,it was Not one of the better steaks I have had . It was like they cooked it in a broiler oven. My son liked it and has been there several times. I probably would not go backn

My wife and I went to LRB last night for dinner. We walked in and were not sure if we were to seat ourselves or wait for someone to come seat us, there was no visible sign. After a few awkward second, I noticed a couple of people were talking to a young woman wearing shorts, cowboy boots, a plaid shirt and a cowboy hat. She said something to them and then turned to us to ask how many in our party. She never smiled. She said something I did not understand and I asked her to repeat herself. She pointed at another young lady down the steps and said we should follow her to our table. The second young lady smiled and took us to a table. We walked past the open kitchen through an open portal to the dining room and she wanted to seat us right by the doorway. Without every table being full, I asked her if we could sit at the next table, away from the doorway with all the traffic. She said she was glad to seat us there. I turned around to sit down, and there were 2 salads on the table. She asked us what kind of dressing we wanted and said we had our choice of Thousand Island, Garlic, or Ranch. When I heard "Garlic," I asked her about it, and she explained that it was Green Goddess, so we both chose that. The salad was simple but good. I was a mixture of fresh iceberg lettuce, packaged shredded carrots, and a couple of cherry or grape tomatoes. But, it was their house made (I hesitate to call anything made at a restaurant "home" made) salad dressing that made it a delicious salad. That was Wednesday night and the dressing bottle had a sticker that said "Fri." But, if they are truly serving 1,000 steaks each day, as the painting on the outside wall says, then they are apparently also serving 1,000 salads each day, and I expect they go through their batches of dressing pretty quickly and even a 5 day old batch is still VERY good. A few minutes later, they brought out some fresh made sliced bread which was also delicious. Kelly ordered the shish-k-bob and I ordered their largest sirloin. We both ordered baked potatoes, with Kelly asking for butter and sour cream, and I asked for bacon, cheese, and to substitute ranch dressing for the sour cream. Each 1 oz container of fixin's (bacon, cheese, & sour cream) was $0.25, and they were full but appeared tiny. But, they had enough in them for the size of the potatoes. Note, the potatoes were not HUGE like some steak houses serve, but were what I consider "just the right size." Kelly asked for her k-bob to be cooked medium and I asked for mine to be cooked between medium-rare and medium. The server asked if I wanted mine more red and cool in the middle or pink. I told him I wanted it cooked at least medium-rare but would prefer it closer to medium, and that if it was medium that I would be happy with that, but prefer it a drop undercooked for medium. Kelly had no complaints about her k-bob and said it was delicious. It had generous and large pieces of onion and bell pepper, both of which were delicious. The onion had some bite to it, but not enough to bring tears. She received the requested sour cream with her potato. My steak was not like any sirloin I had received at any of the other steak houses in town. It was about 1/2" to 3/4" thick. Other steak house sirloins have been over 1" thick. I poked it with my finger because that's how I learned to tell how well done a steak is cooked. The thinness of the steak deceived me because it felt firmer to the touch than I realized it would be for a steak that thin. It looked cooked on the outside, but was red and cool in the center, turning to red and cold in the center by the time I got part-way through it. It had not sat on the fire long enough to have any of the real steak flavor I was craving. I seasoned it with salt and pepper, thinking that would help, but had to do it 3 times before I gave up on the flavor. It was, admittedly, a plate-covering piece of meat, and looked like a LOT of food for one person to eat. That, like the firmness, was deceiving. As I started cutting into the steak, and trying to eat it, I found that a large part of it was fat, gristle, and sinew. I left a pile of inedible steak trimmings that seemed like it was about half the weight of the portion. Although I was quite disappointed in the meat, I refuse to send a plate back when my spouse has hers ready to eat because I will not allow her to feel uncomfortable eating alone or to make her wait for mine to be fixed right. So, I made my way through the steak trying to think that it just was not really that bad. My baked potato came with the requested cheese and bacon, but no ranch dressing. That was not too much of a problem for me because the container of Green Goddess dressing was still on the table, so I used that. We were not charged for the Ranch dressing substitute for the sour cream. When we were finishing up our food, I set my credit card on the corner of the table to indicate that we were ready for the bill. The server passed us and asked if we needed a to-go box. When we said that we did one one, he started to walk off and I caught his attention and handed him the card saying that he could take care of the bill at the same time. He quickly came back with the to-go box and the bill. I immediately added a 20% tip and signed the bill, handing it back to him before he could walk off - I don't like leaving a slip sitting on the table, so that was a good exchange. As we were leaving, I mentioned to Kelly that the steak was not an experience I would want to have again. The atmosphere was good, not too loud, but the dining room was less than half-full. They had set a pitcher of water on the table, so we never had to ask for more. The salad dressing, potato, and bread were as good as any in town. But, one goes to a steak house to have a great steak, and I was sorely disappointed. Someone else will have to insist that we have dinner there with them before I will return.

This place is not fancy, so if that's what you want, you need to go somewhere else. Instead, it is about a great steak at a fair price and service is very quick. We had not even sat down when the salads were being put at our places on the table. We ordered the sirloin steak and it was extremely tender and delicious. You get to see the many ranchers' brands around the walls while you enjoy your meal. It is a very laid back atmosphere with picnic type tables. We don't have steaks like this place serves anywhere near Atlanta, GA - at least not for anywhere near the price we paid at Little Red Barn.

I won't go here again. I ordered a steak. It didn't look like a steak, didn't smell like a steak and stupid me, I tasted it and yup...it didn't taste like a steak. Not sure what kind of meat they are serving but it didn't come from a Texas ranch.

We were an adult group, but several parties with small children were also there. The kids had a great time by the noise made, running around, and generally making it sound like a day care center. Had been here several times, but many years ago. Years have not been kind. Friendly service, extensive menu, but better choices abound.

This is a very casual steak restaurant with a decidedly "wild west" theme. The staff are all dressed like cowboys and cowgirls and the restaurant carries that on. Size matters here, starting with the hemongus menu which is on a large rectangular board. The steaks include a nice house salad, rolls, and a side; more than filling. My date settled for the sirloin special, which included a large slice of cheesecake. Both steaks were cooked to order and I was pleased with my 12 oz T-bone. My date thought her sirloin had too much gristle. The cheesecake was huge and very delicious; capping off a great meal. We will return!

It started out with a unrequested salad, but it was good. They have no menus other than a 2 x 4 board with the name of the items and price. No information about the item, like the number of shrimp etc. We ordered as we ate our salad, and then waited and waited for our food. Our waitress was no where to be found, so I didn't get a refill. It took about 45 minutes to get our food even though we were the only customers there. It was frozen food heated up, only my husbands fish was still cold. Our overall experience was terrible. Oh, I should mention they have a basket of crackers and another of butter, which was nice to eat with the salad. Stay away from this restaurant.

If your looking for great service great food this is place wasn't far from downtown marriot where we stayed about ten minutes. The little red barn was more than I expected the staff was at door immediately sat us down the salads were there as soon as sat down homemade dressings bread real butter. The menu was on a four by two foot plywood pretty cool ordered from that prices were very good I had porterhouse baked potatoe for dessert pecan pie and homemade cheese cake. The servers were very happy wore cowgirl outfits with real holsters and guns.Liked so much went again.thanks bill and Shelley regina sask Canada

Local green goddess dressing is great. Beer service took a while but they were changing a keg tap. Relatively inexpensive steakhouse with good meat cooked to order. No wait to get in at 7 PM on a Saturday night. Not exceptional but a good value for a Texas steakhouse.

My in laws had a gift card to this place, none of us have every eaten here before. When we walked in, it just looks old has that smell of dust not clean, you sit down at looks like outdoor picnic tables and they put a large sign in front of you and you order off the sign, most of the staff looks like they have been there since the restaurant opened more than 30 yrs ago, not very friendly. The salad dressings are sitting on the table when you get there in bottles, I guess mayonnaise products don't need to be refrigerated here! A small salad is brought out. When our steaks arrived you could see the gristle throughout the steaks, it reminded me of very cheap quality meat and it taste like cheap quality meat! This place is not worth the gift card we got. I really don't understand why this place is still open and why do people still come here, I heard it's a historical landmark, but that doesn't mean it's good! I do not recommend this place!!

I just wanted a decent steak. Coming here was a mistake. The hostess carried our salads with her when showing us to our table(Actually picnic tables and benches). She pointed to this big red poster board leaning up against a table. THAT was the menu. Nothing was said and she a look that said "Why am I here?" Later on, that became my look. Waitress asked what kind of dressing we wanted after we tried four different dressing, she admitted they only had three, none that we had guessed. We ordered: 12 oz rib eye for me, chapped steak (hamburger, really) for my wife. You get one side. French fries for her, parmesan mashed for me. Those were the best part of the meal. the chopped steak ordered med well, came almost rare. My rib eye, ordered medium came rare. The rib eye had a lot of fat and gristle. The waitress made an appearance when I was three quarters done. I told her about the fat and gristle - actually showed her. She said, "Yeah, rib eyes will do that. I also had a lemonade the bill was $43.41, not including tip. I now had that look: "Why am I here?" I won't ever get it again.

Came her for my mothers Birthday celebration this week and it was wonderful. The waiters were kind and always checked on us. Food was delicious, area was large, cool room to sit at. I loved having the tea right at the table. The only issue with this place is that the bathroom size for the men/woman is nowhere the size it needs to be to accommodate this large place. hope y'all will address this soon.

The experience was awful I had a reservation for a party of 25 after consulting with management /owner what the menu should be they decide upon them self to change it. Upon my arrival the party had already order and could not make any changes. They add steaks to the reservation without my consent, the tea was pre served and water down by the time we arrive, some of the tables remain dirty and not picked up. I asked for management/owner to call me and explain, they refuse to call me back after few attempts. For my bill to be over $400.00 my experience was awful and I will never return back to that place. Terrible service I recommend making reservation elsewhere.

This place used to have some of the best Steaks in the entire City. Sadly when the owner passed away a few years back and the daughters took over, they began to cut corners to make more profit. Steaks got smaller as well as portions of sides but the prices began to go up. The waitresses were replaced with younger ones. Advise; younger doesn't mean better; They also did away with the traditional Cowgirl outfits that this place was known for. The food is now just Mediocre and the service is Ok at best. I still like going there but won't go as often as I used to.

Good hearty food with good atmosphere. The salad was fresh.. the chopped steak was cooked to our liking, and the service was good as well. Easy to get to from the downtown area.

Bone in Ribeye, stuffed jalapeños... Jesus it was awesome. We had been in Texas for a week and not had a "real" steak until we came here. Not cheap but really good. Good environment.

Just came from eating at Little Red Barn..We were celebrating Mothers birthday..We all ordered Steak and bake potatoes. Waitress comes to tell us they were out of bake potatoes. It was a 30 minute wait.they gave us fries till we got our potatoes. Steaks were not cooked to order.super dry and one was almost burned. They finally brought potatoes thrown on a plate without foil. Still raw, I think they stuck them in microwave. We are not going back.We would always celebrate our birthdays there.Managers only gave us credit on burned t bone. Party of six, we are so upset. Mother had a stroke last month,we wanted it to be so special for her.

It has come to my attention by observing that the owner Nancy it's quite nasty to certain servers. Personal comments about ones appearance is amazingly inappropriate first of. Lacking certain items in the restaurant is never the fault of the staff on the floor. That falls on the management team or solely on the owner. A server should not be verbally abused by any client especially if the client is disgruntled because of the something that is completely out of the control of the server such as running out of steaks or burnt rolls or what have you. As a patron sitting in a restaurant watching this unfold and seeing how management handled the situation leaves me inclined to believe that this is how the owner runs this place. A server simply takes the orders and serves the client to the best of their ability. Shortages on food are not the fault of these people and surely they shouldn't be cursed at and told verbally abusive words by children adults or staff. It's very disheartening to see. I was a server myself and in these situations a server should be able to pass the table to another server if the customer is not satisfied with their service not be forced to endure abuse. This is something I will be reporting to the BBB, The Texas Workforce Commission. I felt so badly for what I saw. Especially after this server offered an alternative to what the gentleman had initially ordered, wife was horribly rude child made nasty comments off which management was aware of and laughed it off. Then no to go containers!!! Omg these people don't have anything ordered here. That poor server got an ear full for that as.well for something that again was no fault of her own. Disgusting the way they treat their staff and their patrons. I will never eat here again and if I was to go back I'd have Nancy the owner come serve me and see just how good a server she is. Again she should watch what personal comments she makes to her staff...it's ones thing to critique ones work but to attack ones personal appearance and to cross the line into being personally insulting well...she should know that there's always somebody listening. She's lucky she's not my boss she'd be tied up I'm litigation so fast it'd make her head spin. Treat people decently, just because you don't like someone on a personal level doesn't give you the right to attack their job when initially you are the one who hired them. If you want your servers to give excellent service train them to be up to par before you throw them into a situation not suited for their experience level clearly this server was a newbie.

Attended an event at the Little Red Barn. I had not been there in years, but the food, service and decor was still very good. If you want a good meal that is resonablly priced, this is a must try.

The restaurant hasn't changed since I first went there as a girl in 1966. The food and service is great. I loved the steak and the baked potato...the waitresses in Western Wear adds to the atmosphere and the flavor of Texas Food served with a smile.

Great steak and service at this steak house. The waitstaff are dressed in their cowboy outfits and greet you warmly as soon as you walk through the door. You're seated with the salad placed before you and asked what type of dressing you want. They place a giant menu board propped another park bench and you pick from the list. I ordered the T Bone steak and you get a side of potato with it. I ordered it medium rare, my colleague ordered his ribeye medium. Wait wasn't long. The only thing was that my steak came mostly medium well and partially medium. The steal was good, just not cooked to the right temperature on mine. My coworker ordered his medium, but his was actually a perfect medium rare. Service was good and waitress kept coming back to see how we were doing. The man in the suit walking around, who I assume was the owner stopped by every table to make sure people were doing ok. Pricing is a good value. I would recommend this place.

Took my husband for his birthday. They offer 25% off the meal on birthdays with ID. The salad dressing and salad was warm and tasted spoiled. Rolls were hard, menu is limited, and cashier is not very friendly. Didn't get a thank you at all. Waitress service was good, but she looked unhappy as well. Steaks were small and undercooked. I've been to this place before and it used to be good. I should've known better when I drove up there were very few cars. They got a bad review on KSAT-TV Behind the Kitchen Door.

The Little Red Barn used to be one of the best steakhouses in San Antonio. It had reasonable prices, good service, and a sturdy menu. Today it has become a dishonest and unreliable skeleton of its former self. The restaurant refused to take a $100 gift certificate I had bought there just month earlier. It claimed it had no record of the purchase. Only after I provided proof of purchase at a separate visit did they admit it was purchased. I didn't use it, however, as I have stopped dining here. The menu has remained the same, but the quality of the steaks has dropped considerably. When I complained that my T-bone was overcooked, chewy, and tasted odd, the explanation they provided was that they are purchasing cheaper steaks. While this didn't explain the overcooking, it was an odd admission of guilt. The salad you get to start as you sit down was old and almost inedible. The drinks were okay (unsweetened iced-). The sides of green beans were also overcooked and tasted terrible, but the baked potato was acceptable.

This place was pretty good, as soon as you are seated ,everyone got a free salad, good rolls.. Ifelt as food never stopped coming..My husband ,and I ordered the stakes , the only bad part of our experience not worth the stake price. the chicken fried stakes were good ..

The atmosphere of this steakhouse was definitely country/western. Everyone wears western clothes and the waiters even wear gun holsters with play guns. The food was very good. My steak was cooked just the way I like it and it was very tasty. The plates come with salad and side for a great price. Very reasonable and a great value! The service was also very good. Very happy with our visit.

Four adults. Restaurant not busy. The chicken fried steak batter tasted like cheap shake n bake. The meat tasted like premade frozen. Lettuce in salads not fresh. Tea watered down. We had 2 servings of rolls and asked for another. The waiter said, "I cant do that. My manager said y'all have eaten enough rolls" Ummm.....excuse me?? How much do those rolls cost the restaurant? 10cents each and Im buying a $30 steak dinner....bye! We had a meet with the manager, and told him NO, we are not paying for this meal. We paid for only one out of four...the only meal eatable, a thin steak. The service sucked. We will not be back. This place USED to be great....no longer!!

I first ate here in in the late 80s and it was very busy with great service. I took my son for his first time after shopping across the street at San Antonio Gourmet Olive Oils and it was lunch time but the place was not busy. The food was good and we got it fairly quickly. The servers seem indifferent but maybe that's because it isn't as busy as it used to be. I would still recommend this restaurant.

Nothing fancy here - atmosphere is comfortable and "down home" with picnic tables for seating. Hostess brings salad as they seat you, so not sure if there's any other options; also brought a pitcher of dressing which was great since I always have to ask for extra. The steaks were very tender and cooked just right, although not enough seasoning to suit me, and came with a huge baked potato. Service was good and prices were reasonable. Recommend!

Currently watching my family eat their dinner. The only gluten free item on the menu is a baked potato. The service is slow and the decor is cheesy. Better food can be found at any chain steakhouse.

Return visit and better yet. Servers very friendly and attentive. The uniforms country, tennis you of Bonanza. The steaks were awesome very flavorful. Cooked on point. Steak and chicken, great, large cutlery of chicken. The porterhouse was big and of So tender. The chicken fried steak was awesome. The rolls omg, hit and flavorful. A must visit, excrement with large parties. The prices excellent for washy you get. Samantha was a great server. THANK YOU

There steaks are very good.and the kids menu was good. The atmosphere was very pleasant. They gave away a rose to every lady for Valentines.

The wait staff was dressed in Western attire. Several things to choose from on menu. Food was okay but not great.

The name of this restaurant is misleading; as it it quite large. I ordered a 12 oz Sirloin & the flavor & the tenderness was the finest ever from any steak from any where. They say they use Black Angus Beef. My wife had a 8 pc. Fried Shrimp Plate. Atmosphere is like out west on a ranch: picnic tables & every kind & size of steak you could want w/the menu on the wall down the whole restaurant & on a 3 ft. tall board brought to our table.Waiters & waitresses in cowboy clothes. My waiter was Jesse & he did a superb job.

We asked an employee of out hotel to direct us to HIS favorite restaurant here in town, as the book of restaurants was pretty pricey. We were a bit apprehensive as we drove to the address, the area run down. But when we arrived at the huge red barn and read it had been in business for many years, we felt better. WOW!! Great steaks (more than we could finfish), friendly staff and atmosphere. Reasonable prices, too. Always ask a native. for suggestions!!

My wife and I wanted to try a different place to eat this was a really cool place . Service and food was good . menu on a piece of plywood was different . Steak and shrimp was Good . Cold beer also was a plus ! Even had cheese cake big portion . Price is very reasonable .

This is my sibling's favorite place for CFS, so we came here to treat him. The steak was much larger & more tender than I remembered, actually really, really good! Rolls were excellent as always, but the peppered mashed potatoes were so peppery as to be inedible. The salad is soggy iceberg but it's always been that way, so that was no surprise. Sitting on benches with no back stopped being fun years ago, but today, the CFS was so delicious that it made the less-great things quite bearable.

So, I think it’s great that they put a salad on the table when they seat you, BUT...they need to put water out also, or get your drinks expeditiously. Now this is a very informal place, and maybe expecting a good martini was foolish. Don’t order a martini. Stick with bottled beer. Now for the food. Salad was fresh, and the garlic dressing was very good. I had steak and shrimp. I’m not positive, but the shrimp tasted fresh and not out of a box. The steak was perfectly cooked and very good. Others had a steak (also perfect) and chicken fried steak. Maybe they were misunderstood, but I think they got a country fried steak, or maybe here in Texas it is different. My chicken fried is flour, milk, flour. This had some kind of a mix on it instead. So over all it was a good meal. Not great, but good. They did have lots of free parking.

Grilled chicken was good although the waitress hardly attened our party. We had a large family party, yet, we relied on another waitress. I asked for a refill on water. The waitress brought the pitcher and set it on the and left. Another person asked for a refill on her Coke, yet, she never got it. Restrooms are disgusting.

Food excellent ! Our service poor. Appeared other patrons had excellent service. Me n dtr both got chopped steak and i got mashed potatoes and Dtr got stuffed potatoe.Get the stuffed potatoe. Due to poor service i had to get up and return dtrs steak for re-grilling plus get up and ask other waiters for refills twice. Left review on tab and mentioned to Laura the hostess and Lakeisha an off duty waitress. Kinda pricey to receive that kind of service.

This place is a San Antonio tradition! It's just straight up down-home cook'n! The menu has twenty items to choose from. Mostly steaks, a few fish plates. No matter what dish you get, they all come with salad and bread, and your choice of 1 of 5 sides. I had a 9oz sirloin that was delicious! Lots of seating. We went for Sunday lunch and didn't have to wait. Would definitely go again!

I'll never go there again food was gross too expensive service was disgusting they charge you for everything too much money for what you do not get not enough food

Ok guys , this is one of of the absolute best steaks I have ever had . Wife had sirloin and I had the ribeye and honestly, I could not decide which one was better . Can’t go wrong with certified angus beef . Location is a little out of the way but most hidden gems usually are .

Well since my last visit over a year ago this place has gone down hill and very fast I must say. The days of friendly staff and excellent food are gone. I invited my step son and his girlfriend from Corpus Christi who were visiting to have dinner with us at this place and we were all disappointed. I ordered my steak Well Done and it comes back Medium Well, then they take it back and I am sitting there watching everyone else eat their dinners. My plate comes back and it is too salty. I see a manager by the name of Crystle and she is useless as she comes over to see how we are doing I explain our dissatisfaction and ask that we get a discount for our inconvenience, she refused. She said she couldn't do that. I did not believe her for a minute as she very well could have accommodated us for our displeasure. The waiter ended up giving us his Military Discount so we would be satisfied. This should have been the manager Crystle that did this for us not the waiter. We are NEVER returning here again and I would advise customers to avoid this place until they get their act together. Ever since owner passed away and daughters took over they have consistently made changes to make more profit such as taking away the red cloth napkins they were known for or giving FREE bread when seated, now you have to request it....ughhhh. This place blows now. Too bad, as I have been coming here since I was 13 years of age. I am now 50. Good bye Little Red Barn.

We had fried cod and shrimp plate. Both tasted like previous frozen, cod was mushy as was the shrimp. Like I was at some fast food, but only worse. $16.95 was way too much for fast, mushy food. I was very disappointed. Friendly service and the baked potato saved our meal.

On Monday evening we arrived in San Antonio and stopped at the Little Red Barn to have dinner with the family. We were greeted by very friendly staff and seated right away. The waitress greeted us right away and took our drink order right away. She also provided our drink order as requested. The food order was taken and we ate our salads while they cooked our steaks. The steaks were cooked as we ordered them and they were very good.

Family likes the place so we came back. Fare is very simple. Not great food but it is okay. For a quick meal with an ice cold salad this is the place. Just don't come expecting to have a blow your socks off steak. Waitress was attentive and pleasant making our visit nice.

I love the staff here, they are so friendly and provide excellent service. You want to talk about busy... this place was packed with people outside waiting to get in. For a steakhouse we expected the steak to be more tender. I couldn't get my shrimp or fish grilled, only fried. I was told there were only two choices for salad dressing, ranch or thousand Island. We cook better steaks at home. But, I do like the staff and atmosphere.

Little Red Barn is one of the oldest (nearly historic) Steak Houses in San Antonio and they probably serve more steaks than any other restaurant in town. The steaks are tasty and tender, and your steak comes with a simple salad with a choice of dressings (and crackers), all you can eat bread, and your choice of side/potato for one reasonable price. They also have a few other entrees like pork chops, fish and shimp, and even chopped steak but they're really known for the steaks. The service is friendly and prompt with servers dressed as cowgirls complete with toy six shooters. The server's attire fits in well with the restaurant's decor which includes walls painted with the brands of area ranches and heavy wood picnic style tables and benchs...no booths here. Bar service is also available and weekends often feature live music. On my most recent visit I tried their chicken fried steak with chicken gravy and fries...tasty! I've previously tried their sirloins and porterhouse steaks which were tender and delicious. I haven't really tried their desserts but friends tell me they're pretty good too. If you're looking for a decent steak dinner for a reasonable price in a casual atmosphere the Little Red Barn is a good place to go. If you're looking for an upscale Steak House with USDA Prime steaks and an a la carte menu with a wine steward this ain't it.

We came to this restaurant looking for a steak house. The attire was very casual and the staff were in western attire. They seated us at a wooden picnic table and gave us a salad before we even sat down! We were surpriiise to see the menu painteed on a big piece of plywood. The food was pretty good. But thiis is not a high-end steakhou. This is probably better for families.

For chicken fried steak this place is the real deal creamy gravy and a baked potato you can't beat it good southern hospitality

This restaurant has been in business since the 60's . Maybe once upon a time it used to be good but when we ate there it was very poor. The place is set up like an old western restaurant with servers dressed in cowboy outfits. Their specialty is supposedly their chicken fried steak smothered with homemade gravy. The chicken fried steak was cremated, fried hard and dry. Homemade gravy was horrible, you can have better tasting gravy from a package mix.

This restaurant has been around for generations. It is on the south side of San Antonio built in a red barn motif. It serves mainly steaks. The cuts of meat are not prime to say the least and are very, very thin!!!!

This is our second visit. 1st in 2008, this visit October, 2014. Things have only gotten better. Great atmosphere, friendly and efficient service, fantastic steaks, salad, sides and drinks. All with reasonable prices. A trip to San Antonio would not be the same without a visit to the Little Red Barn. Would I return, Yes, I have and will again next time in San Antonio!

I've been going here since I was a kid and its still the best place in SA for a steak. Now there are the fancy places and the chains but this is home grown and just plain good steak. When you walk in the door you are greeted by the staff and a fresh salad. Got to love that green goddess dressing which is the best option and kept perfectly chilled. There is a great selection of surff and turff, steaks, good home eats and chicken fried steaks. The other great thing here are the rolls they are really good. Also there is a daily special you should pay attention to. Also if you are looking for a menu its on the wall and on a 3ft pop up board so look out for that. If you have never been then you are really missing out on a true San Antonio Gem!

Whoa - this is like stepping back into time! Two coworkers and I ate lunch here on a Friday. We were seated immediately at an indoor picnic table. There is NO lunch menu, no sandwiches, no salads topped with meat/poultry. THE menu is on a wooden board that the waitress, dressed in a mini-cowgirl outfit, propped against our table, but even before we saw this menu, we were served salads. Co-workers ordered sirloin steak and chicken fried steak. Some baked potato toppings are an extra charge. Sirloin steak was large, very thin, and lots of fat along the edge. There was more cutting and trimming than chewing! I ordered fish filet (cod) $11.99, which was frozen and then deep-fried until the breaded coating was extremely hard! No taste what so ever. Along with the fish was a pile of mushy steak fries, hardly browned! Upon paying my bill at the cashier's counter, there laid a handgun. Perhaps this is their security system! Conclusion: Focus here is fast service, period. I felt like they couldn't get me out the door fast enough! The food is horrible and the dining atmosphere is not enjoyable. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

The staff is incredible. The rest..it is a barn. It smells like a barn. The tables were worn and sticky because the finish came off. There are no menus. You are given a iceberg salad when you sit down with choice of dressings that gets passed table to table (1000 island, green goddess and ranch? Think thick) The beer glasses were ice cold and smelled like freezer burn. The sides are limited to mashed potatoes, fries, baked potatoes and green beans. Awful.

Great steaks. I had a sirloin. Quick and rustic, but the steak was cooked correctly and tasted great. The price was fair.

This was a favored eating restaurant given its family ownership history of over 1,000 steaks per day fame. Yesterday evening I went by to have a great meal. The hamburger steak that I had ws well cooked Medium (as I requested), seasoned well and the accompanying salad and baked potato were served most gallantly. My server wore her cowgirl outfit, without the six shooter, and did a good job of keeping my needs supplied. HOwever, when in San Antonio, Texas an 8-oz. serving of chopped meat costs $11.99- well that is too much. I can see other more centrally located sites charging a premium price but this is too much for what I received. Methinks the site may be making too much of itself. Or, perhaps time and the economy have passed me by! Nevertheless, this is too much for me and too far to go on south Hackberry Street for an overpriced meal. I will not be returning frequently. If you want the old style cowboy flavor and expensive meat, go ahead and make the trek! I is too much for too little for me.

They meet you at the door with your salad in hand as they escort you to your table. Green goddess dressing is the best!!! The steaks are cooked perfectly and have great flavor and sides are great as well. The iced tea is also VERY good! We make it there as often as possible!

You are not going to confuse this place with a top shelf steak house, but it is fun, and the food is OK. Steaks are large, but not thick. Limited menu, and cattle call rush to get you in and out, but still a fun night out without spending a fortune.

steak was great. Cooked perfectly and priced reasonably. The atmosphere was very casual "barn like" with picnic table like seating. Not a quiet night out but fun. Would be great for a big family.
If you like bread....
Great food, my steak was cook (not cooked as I like rare) to perfection. Plenty of good sides that we ordered for our grandson: mashed potatoes and green beans. Now, let's talk about the awesome cool salad! Order the green goddess dressing....it was my first time as my wife insisted that I try it. Yup, she is right AGAIN. It was good. Service....eh. Wait! Did I mention the mashed homemade rolls, someone needs to give them attention right after they rise! But, this bread was yum even after the fall.
