They claim they have the best deep dish in San Francisco, and it's completely true. It's like being in Chicago. We ordered a capresse salad, some hot wings (these weren't sooo spicy as I expected) and a Pepperoni deep dish. It was awesome. In addition the service is really good and quick. It's worth going at 6 or 6:30, because after 7 it's crowded...

Little star has the best deep dish pizza in San Francisco. I would strongly recommend it to family and friends.

Love it, but not longer can eat gluten...

Little Star Pizza is a real find in this off the tourist map neighborhood. If you want to hang out in a real neighborhood surrounded by the 30 somethings that love the city and can afford to live there then this is your place for a great slice of life and of pizza. Yes the place was packed and lively (almost noisy but not). Worth the effort to find you pizza fix.

I ordered the cheese deep dish and the green salad. Read raving reviews and had to try it. Salad was big and heavy, good as well. The pizza wasn't anything special, they have other pies that sound good too, based off the cheese I'm OK with not trying again. Looked like the picture but overall taste was the sauce and cornmeal blended dough. Had better at old Chicago in Petaluma ca. Also had better cheesecake at the hospital, 5 bucks for a small grainy and bland mini cake.

but the do-it-yourself garlic bread rocks! Loved this place; we were there when it opened, and got the window seat for two. We had the small (plenty for two people) deep-dish pepperoni and artichoke heart, large salad and order of garlic bread. Stunning!

Upon landing in San Francisco, Little Star was our first restaurant stop. Overall excellent corn bread crust deep dish pizza. I think they use a tad bit more cornmeal and perhaps butter as oil. Hence the crust is soft but firm. I'm from Chicago and this would be close to Lou Malnattis. Sans the extra tomato ans sausage. The only draw back with most restaurants in SF...the parking.

The pizza and service are allways good - have had both the deep dish and thin crust (which I prefer) and both are excellent - go early or consider take out.

This was my first encounter with a Chicago-style deep-dish pizza pie (it's like a big thick pie with a high pastry crust – the topping is actually a filling, kind of like a thick tasty pasta sauce). They also do regular thin crust pizzas. Portions were generous but they gave us doggy bags. Service was friendly and there was a nice buzzy atmosphere – not a fast-food joint at all but a proper restaurant where you can relax with friends.

Little Star was recommended by a colleague, and it certainly didn't disappoint! I'd say the deep dish is about as good as you'll find outside of Chicago. However, to me, it still doesn't compare to deep dish pizza from Chicago (there's just something about it... mmm...). I came by myself while on business, and was seated promptly. The service was pretty straightforward (I knew what I wanted when I walked in, and only had 45 minutes or so to order and eat) but helpful. The pizza itself was the best deep dish I've had in the Bay Area, and I ate THE ENTIRE THING! I'd definitely come back.

Excellent deep dish -- but you've gotta like deep dish. The thin crust is just OK. No flavor or body to the crust. toppings are all pretty fresh, though.

The star of the show here, at least for me, is arguably the best deep dish pizza anywhere, including Chicago. The Classic pretty much hits all the high spots, with a cornmeal-infused crust, a delicious tomato sauce that seems to pretty much consist of very high-grade tomatoes and a bit of garlic, and just the right amount of gooey, stretchy mozzarella cheese - - not too much of a good thing. The mixed green salad was totally fresh and somewhat inspired, with escarole, spinach, nuts and other goodies sprinkled liberally throughout. Wine corkage at $12 is a great deal for San Francisco, or choose from among their moderately-priced wine list. You probably won't sit and linger here, but it is definitely low-pressure, comfortable enough, and no hassle. Quality has been consistent over many years.

We dined at Little Star Pizza and really enjoyed our deep dish pizza. It had plenty of cheese and a delicious tomato sauce. There was a good selection of craft beers on the menu. The atmosphere was casual and hip, with original art on the walls.

Had a 50 minute wait, so went to a bar for a beer, then back to a window seat for a delicious meal. We tried deep dish and thin crust medium pizzas. The 4 of us had plenty to eat and I had two pieces for lunch the next day. This was a lively, fun place to eat with fresh and tasty ingredients on yummy crust! Worth the wait!

The Chicago style pizza served at Little Star rivals anything I've eaten in the city of Chicago itself. The crust in incredible: crunchy, buttery not to thick and cooked to perfection. The sauce was fresh and intense. A 12" pie will easily feed 3 people. It's not a large restaurant so plan to wait to be seated. It's well worth it. Enjoy.

Great local place to visit for deep-dish pizza -- the taste was similar to what I remember when I lived in Chicago, which impressed me. The beer list, while small, was pretty much craft beers, and the IPA I had with dinner was quite delicious. The atmosphere is noisy and the restaurant was full at 8p on a Tuesday, but that only speaks to its popularity. I would easily go back here in the future.

In a city like San Francisco, there are no shortage of pizzerias—no shortage of really good pizzerias, for that matter. On a visit last spring, we were on the prowl for a change of pizzeria, but it had to meet several requirements: it couldn’t close at/before nine, it had to be fairly accessible from our base in Cow Hollow, and it had to sound really good. As it happened, I’d recently come across an article on Facebook rating some exemplary pizzas. One in particular had caught my eye: a deep dish named after the restaurant, offering a combination of spinach, feta, ricotta, onion and garlic. Just reading the description caused me to salivate. We ordered to go from the Divisadero location, rounding out our meal with a house salad, an amply-sized mixture of spring mix and other greens, red bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, parmesan croutons and gorgonzola, served with their house balsamic. I found the dressing a bit too heavy and gooey for the delicate greens, but the taste was good. The pizza, as anticipated, was utterly to die for—one of those rare pizzas which causes me to emit numerous enjoyment noises while pointing enthusiastically at my food. Some people photograph their food; I point and make noises. And that pizza was truly one of the greats, a pizza which should be knighted, if indeed pizzas ever received such an honor. In any case, Little Star was inked into our schedule for a second visit the next time we’d be in town. And that pizza was no less delicious. As an aside, I offer a small anecdote you may scroll right past if you’re not into anecdotes. That first night, we arrived for our pizza a tad early and camped out in the tiny waiting area up front. Seated as I was, I was hit with a wonderful realization: I was inhaling an aroma I hadn’t experienced in probably 25 years. That was when our Absolute Favorite Pizza Place on Planet Earth had shut down for good-- though the memory of the food (and its aroma) will live on forever. Little Star smelled like that restaurant and being the ridiculous softie I’ve always been, I immediately got teary. No place emitting aromas like that would possibly steer us wrong—and if Little Star had offered the same topping combination we’d enjoyed 25 years ago, there was no doubt what we’d be ordering on our return visit. But then again, it’s awfully hard to turn down anything as wonderful as that spinach/feta/ricotta creation. Little Star is small, dark, cozy, and apparently very busy during peak hours, I’m told. No reservations, street parking. And oh, so very worth it.

Absolutely LOVE their veggie pizzas. It's JUST right - not too rich, not too greasy, perfect toppings/fillings to cheese to crust ratio! MUST go even if you're lactose intolerant - just take a Lact-aid ;)

We were incredibly jet lagged and didn't want to wander too far from our air bnb in search of good food. It's a really cool little joint with friendly staff, good drinks and delicious pizza!

We were in the city for the weekend as a romantic getaway. Found ourselves unable to find a place to eat that didn't have a huge wait (we are not fast food types). We were very footsore and tired and I just grabbed my iphone and used a dining app to look up pizza places, because I figured it would be fast and easy. Found Little Star, and it had decent reviews so off we went. This place was kind of scary on the outside. Just a tiny little hole in the wall, with a little bitty sign over the door and absolutely no flash at all. We were a little intimidated by that, but went inside. Once we walked in the door, first thing was that it was packed! There were so many people in there (remember, a Friday night) and the nice guy at the door said it would be 45 minutes for a table. We were too tired to go anywhere else, so we got on the list and went over to the bar to get a drink while we waited. Within ten minutes we were able to get seats at the bar and decided to order food there. Problem solved! As we sat and waited for our pizza, we noticed that the takeout business was really hopping. This got us excited, because we thought that if they had a lot of takeouts, it must be good pizza... When the food came we were so blown away. They have both deep dish style and thin crust, and we got a small of each. This is the BEST pizza I have ever had. It was SO good. They have a wide array of toppings and obviously know how to make a tasty pie. The place was busy the whole time we were there. I wouldn't think of this as a kid place really, because there was a definite adult vibe, but I think there were a couple here and there. It was loud, and energetic inside. Lots of talking and laughing and we just loved it. Thanks Little Star!

Nice pizza, long wait. Not quite like the deep dish pizzas you'd find in Chicago. I was a little disappointed

Excellent experience! Best deep dish pizza, great flavor! Friendly staff, helpful and energetic! Excellent ginger cocktail too!

There seems to be a pizza place on almost every corner no matter where you are, so the competition in this segment is great. That said, on a miserably rainy Friday after work, this place was packed. So that tells you Little Star is doing something right. And the takeout business we watched was just as brisk as we waited 25 minutes for a table. The place is noisy, no frills, cramped and busy, so not the best for a conversational meal. But if you like Chicago-style pizza, it's pretty darned good. I liked that the woman at the front desk suggested that we order our pizza when we were close to getting a table so it would be ready soon after we sat.

Their deep dish, thin crust, and pretty much everything here is amazing. I don't really like the atmosphere so we order to go. Highly recommend. Reeeeeally good pizza!!!!!

Yummy!

they bring it. consistent and fresh. the wait can be brutal but the reward is well worth it. it is like Zacharys finally made it to the west bay, except...ITS BETTER.

Amazing pizza... if you get the deep dish don't plan on eating more than a slice or two...It's just a bummer they don't deliver :-(

Cudos to the deep dish pizza. It is thick full of delicious sauce. The crust is my favorite of any pizza I have tasted. It seems to be made of some kind of meal, but not cornmeal. Since we always order take out, I cannot comment on the other food, not the dining experience in the restaurant.

awesome pizza, just a bit loud!

My wife and I found this place after both feeling like getting pizza. The staff was friendly and the pizza was delicious. It's certainly thick deep dish pizza, and they were generous with the toppings, cheese, and sauce. It's a little pricey at 26ish dollars for a large pizza, but a large will easily feed two people. The pizza came out hot and fresh and I enjoyed every bite. My wife and I each decided to get our own small pizza and had plenty left over. The garlic bread was more cheese bread than garlic, but still good. Tip: If you're looking for something fun to do after eating here go to Emporium. It's an adults only arcade about two blocks away.

I have spent lots of time in Chicago and love the pizza. My wife pushes us to drive 120 miles just to eat pizza here. Before we lived in Detroit metro and we would drive over to Chicago during the weekend to eat the pizza. Living on the west coast there seemed to be no place that had that thick pie we love. Then we discovered Little Star. This pizza is the best Chicago pie I have eaten in years. Tastes exactly like the amount Chicago pizza you get in Chicago. Thick, juicy, great sauce and the rest of the toppings and cheese just oozes out. Excellent all around. Please note it takes a bit longer to cook one of these compared to a normal pizza. Its more than an inch thick. I can eat about 4 pieces of Little Caesars Pepperoni pizza. I can eat one piece of Little Stars and maybe a couple of bits of another piece. A typical Little Stars pizza feels like it weighs a few pounds as well. Good eating though, our family loves it and we are sure to take some home for later. Its excellent.

Great Thin tasty crust pizzas!!! We ordered several flavors of pizza for a birthday party. This place is always packed with people having fun and enjoying the food and drinks. Too bad i have to drive back to millbrae. Next time ill make sure i can have a sip. Lol

Try to save room for dessert because the cheesecake is as good as the pizza. They also have some good beer on tap.

A busy, trendy pizza place that is known for its' deep dish pizza. We tried to go for lunch on Thursday but it was closed for lunch. We came back and tried their deep dish pepperoni and fresh mozzarella pizza. I'm not a pizza fan but this was pretty good.

Deep dish pizza -- when thin crust just ain't gonna happen...

We stopped in on a Saturday night. Wait was reasonable - about 30 minutes. The garlic bread is worth the price, with lots of fresh garlic. Try the chicken, bacon, Brie pizza. A unique combo, the Brie works well.

I just loved their pizza. Thin crust very crispy. Two favorites for me - portobello mushrooms and little star. And the staff likes interacting with you and serving you.

We hunted down this place as big fans of pizza and especially deep dish pizza. It had a nice environment and the staff was friendly enough, but the food did not blow us away. It was certainly good enough ..and if you are craving pizza here is some. But I would not go out of my way to find this place again. I'd recommend the place, but would tone down the expectations.

Just what the doctor ordered: not a deep-dish, but a completely delicious thin crust using good ingredients, ordered in the right size (12”) for two, and we finished it all up. That’s the efficient magic of Little Star Pizza. We’ve had the deep dish before and we think it’s keen, but we’ve liked the classic flavors of Zachary’s for so long now and we love Patxi’s now too. But we were in SF in the Fillmore area and we had a hankering for pizza. And not the greasy slices you get at Blondie’s or even, gulp, Costco. Nope. I knew there was a Little Star on Divisadero. But here’s the first hurdle: I defy you to actually find the place! We drove around in commuter traffic and we passed the place twice. The pizza was divine ---pepperoni, mushroom and basil. Awesome. Two bottles of root beer to wash it down. Amazing. A foreign couple (tourists?) across from us had parked themselves in front of two pizzas and I was so into watching them devour their pizzas with glasses of white wine. They accomplished the task and probably still wanted more. Little Star is probably one of the most reliable small venue pizza joints in SF.

Really cool place. I love deep dish pizza. .,..and what 2000 other people said. If you like deep dish pizza you can't go wrong here. I went on a Thursday night and I didn't have to wait that long for a table even though the place was packed. Definitely will head back when I'm in SFO.

I ordered a large thin cheese pizza with double Kalamata olives. I ate the whole darn thing by myself. Pizza was excellent. Cooked to Perfection, and not mushy anywhere. Restaurant was packed, but I was seated immediately. Dining room is nice, and bathroom is relatively clean. Service was good. The only thing I would have liked to be different, fountain soda instead of canned Diet Coke.

We were about to splurge on a more expensive and trendy place down the block but walked in here instead...to our great delight. Very good pizza (and a crust to my liking) with quality ingredients (although a bit too much cheese on the one I ordered), down-to-earth service, local clientele, family-friendly. If you want trendy, there are plenty of other places to go. But this spot won't disappoint.

We ate pizza 2 times in 3 days, that should tell you how much we liked it! My daughter loved the deep dish pizza.

We had a late lunch here in mid November 2012 and had some great pizza. It is a very friendly restaurant and recommended to us by the maitre d at Nopa restaurant as they were closed at the time. The waiter suggested we share a large pizza between 2 rather than get 2 small pizzas which ended up saving us a bit of money which was a nice touch. If you are after a good quality pizza, would highly recommend.

I love all kinds of pizza, but deep dish is one of my faves and this place makes a fantastic one. Not too greasy or cheesy like “Chicago style” sometimes is - a perfect crust with a bit of cornmeal and a delightful texture. The two of us only managed to eat half a large, but we polished it off for breakfast early the next morning. Will be back!

This was a great little pizza place. It was a little hard to get to and you can tell it is a local place and not many tourists because the area, compared to the toursits areas, looks shady. We were talked into ordering the deep dish pizza which turned out to be pretty good but we still like the thin pizza better. We were able to pre order our pizza while we waited for a table which really speed up the process. But they do this because it is a small restaurant and I imagine it speeds up the process. The deep dish pizza we had had a little too much sauce on top. But we would go back to this restaurant and it is worth getting a cab and going to Divisadero to try it.

Pizza is amazing, should be named BIG star pizza! Whether you order thin or deep dish, you will not be disappointed. We tried thin crust selections of Margherita and Pear and Bacon (Prosciutto chunks of love), both are excellent, crust is thin and crunchy, toppings are perfectly proportioned (that's important to me!). Deep dish we dabbled with the Little Star and Classic. I'm usually not a deep dish pizza fan, but this deep dish delivers with not too much crust or cheese, perfect balance of sauce, veggies, cheese and sausage. I'll be back next trip to the SF!

We learned of Little Star Pizza from food reviews and they are not overstated. We waited outside and door crashed Little Star Pizza as they opened at 5pm. We ordered pizza and pilsner and I was happy with both. I think the best descriptor for the pizza is "satisying". The pizza was a deep dish crust filled with delicious topping and a rich tomato sauce that I would almost call a tomato purée it was so rich in taste. The service was friendly - we told them word on the street was they are the best pizza in town - which they humbly seemed aware of. Don't go in expecting a fancy banquet hall. It's a pizza joint and the atmosphere is fitting so wear your jeans. Our table for 2was near a window in a closet sized space we asked for because it was near a window but there was lots of space for bigger parties available- There were a few larger groups there. My only complaint is that I haven't figured out how to arrange delivery to my home in Canada! If you can fix that Little Star Pizza, I'll be a perfectly satisfied customer! :). To summarize, a perfectly authentic and satisfying deep dish pizza.

This pizza is one of the reasons we will be returning to San Francisco in the near future. Hands down the best pizza Ive ever had. I can still taste it and its been 3 months. Don't let the wait hold you back, you can put your name on the waitlist online!

My girlfiend and i came here on our first night in san francisco because it was close to where we were staying. We had to wait 30 minutes to get a table because it was busy even on a sunday night. For good reason. We ordered one pizza each - 12 inch (the "small"). I had the greek and she had the white pie. Mine was delcious- even the crust was amazing! A bit salty due to sundried tomatos but i loved it and her white pie was equally as good if not better. We couldnt finish it all tho. Service was also good. I recommend.

This restaurant is a few blocks away from my son's apartment near Alamo Square. We had to wait about 45 minutes to get in (Saturday night). The wait -- as the saying goes -- was worth it. We sampled thin crust and deep dish, both being very good. The restaurant is kinda cramped, which actually adds pleasantly to the ambiance. Service was excellent. Little Star is definitely on our preferred list of restaurants in that San Francisco neighborhood.

Good range of pizza, served by friendly and efficient staff. It was a bit noisy (old fashioned juke-box) for us, but I am sure it would add to the experience if you liked their taste in music!

Very small place, but the pizza and service were incredible. The plc a doesn't look very inviting, but once inside its really cool!

Best pizza in San Francisco.

great pizza and the crust is always made perfectly

I can't speak for the deep dish style pizza, but I can speak for the regular pizza. My friends and I stayed at the Metro Hotel on the same street, and we wanted pizza that was close by. We ordered a regular style pizza- pesto chicken for one half, and the other half we created. We also ordered some wings. I have to say, we were disappointed. For the price and portion, we most likely won't be returning. I will have to say though, the service was great, and the people there were really nice. The food just wasn't for me.

Tried 3 different types of pizza and found all 3 to be good to great. Cold beer, garlicky, saucy pizza and quality ingredients. Will return!

Wow. I am not a deep dish pizza type, but this place has the only deep dish I can eat, and it is so good. Highly recommended.

The fillings/toppings were good, but I didn't think the crust was all that great and certainly not worth the fuss.

If I ever make it back to SF, I will make a beeline for this pizza! Fresh marinara sauce and the sourdough cornbread crust along with good service and quaint surroundings made it a great experience.

2 things. Their salad! And a large pizza wth the following toppings, Artichoke hearts, roasted Garlic, Onion, tomatoes, chicken, Bacon and fresh mozzarella. Absolutely divine. That roasted garlic was out of this world!

My brother and I were hungry for pizza, and this restaurant was the closest to our location. I'm so glad we stopped in! We split a mixed salad and a deep dish half classic/half Little Star pizza. A small was enough for both of us to share. Best pizza I've had in a long time!

One of the best pizzas we have ever had! Ordered the 12 inch Eggplant Pizza with a thin crust and made a couple of substitutions to the toppings. Great for 2 people to share. Really lovely wait staff, great service, clean restaurant and nice atmosphere. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this place. Highly recommend.

Its damn tasty!

Visited Little Star on a Tuesday and it was packed with locals. We enjoyed the laid back environment and the very, very tasty pizza! The crust was on point and the sauce was incredible. It was kid friendly and the service was great. Highly recommended if ever in the mood for deep dish.

this was my favorite pizza joint to meet with my girls after class...love the pizza, luv the champagne cocktails and their music sheet? TOP NOTCH, people

This place was very close to the apartment where we were staying and it was recommended by a friend and it was delicious, both deep dish and the regular one.

We went there one evening for pizza and like it so much we ate their 3 more times. Good, fast and reasonable in price.

We were looking for pizza we could pick up and take to our hotel room. I found this spot on TA and decided to try it. So glad I did. The deep dish pizza was so good we are taking the leftovers on the road with us this morning. Loved the cornmeal crunchy crust and the tangy tomatoes provided a great counterpoint to the cheese. The salad was delicious too. Highly recommend!

We went here on recommendation. We arrived and ordered a Pollo pizza for take out. We waited 45 minutes (I knew it would take some time because we ordered DD). We took the pizza back to our AirBnB, opened it up and it WAS NOT POLLO. Instead of chicken, bacon and spinach the pizza was covered in sun-dried tomatoes, corn and chillies. Not AT ALL similar. We couldn't make it back to find out what happened so we half heatedly ate some of the pizza to eat something. The vibe in the restaurant was great but I am so disappointed I did not get my Pollo.

Cash only, but worth the Chicago style pizza and AMAZING garlic bread!

Busy, noisy, hole in the wall with a jukebox kinda place. Good selection of beers on tap and a nice wine list. Deep dish takes 30 minutes. No reservations, but you can call ahead to preorder that deep dish. Fresher, more intense flavors than Chicago deep dish. We had the Little Star and added anchovies and pesto. A large will feed two and you can eat the leftovers later. Best, cheapest meal we have had in SF. OMNOMNOM!!

Great pizza, but Orgasmica is better

Amazing deep dish pizza (with cornmeal crust)...was on once a week Little Star diet, but had to cut back so my friends would stop calling my chubs.

If you are on Divisadero, you must come to Little Star. Our favorite: Pesto/Chicken My daughter never has cheese pizza!

3 of us split the Meateor 2.0 large. It was really good and we polished it off. The chili flakes added a nice kick that wasn't too hot. Service was good and we got right in on a Thursday evening.

My son and I are Celiac and this was highly recommended for GF pizza. The recommendations were spot on! The pizza was very good and the GF crust was great as well. The sauce was good and the toppings were plentiful. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. The only item which we both thought were GF that some web research indicated wasn’t, was the creme soda de to the caramel flavoring it used. Luckily we did that extra step prior to drinking. Their roasted Kale is tremendous as an appetizer. Very tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back!!

Excellent deep dish pizza, good salads and wine. Will fill you up for days.

They have the best deep dish pizza. I absolutely love their veggie and pepperoni pizza. It was to die for! They never disappoint. My boyfriend and I were able to split the smallest size and still have a slice or two for leftovers.

Went here a few times - liked the thin crust pizza best - the pan pizza is a massive wedge! the place gets pretty busy so hop up at the bar and have a drink while you are waiting for a table. worth visiting if you are in the area.

Went there on a local recommendation and not disappointed. Ended up eating there four times. It was close. We were tired at nite. It was quick. Food was great! Even the next day sometimes on a local trip.

The hardest part about going to Little Star (besides the parking) is deciding on which pizza to order. The white pizza is simple creation that does much for the the taste buds. Went with the Pollo on thin crust and a deep dish Margherita Plus. Both excellent and so much flavor packed into each slice. To be honest, have never tried their appetizers as I am so in love with their pizza. I am sure they are terrific!

I think they beat Zachary's with their crust. Good buffalo wings too.

Exceptional food in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere! We enjoyed the margarita pizza (thin crust) and a mixed salad - really fresh ingredients, and super tasty - washed down with the barebottle beer special (an English IPA). Staff knowledgeable and very friendly - overall, highly recommended!

I’m not a pizza fan but on recommendation I visited here on my recent trip. Amazing food & service !

I ate Little Star a few times and I really liked it. I like thin crust a lot and it had a good crunch. It was fairly expensive for pizza though.

We had dinner here after reading good reviews online. Searching for it, we drove by the first time. It was dark and the signage is not great. Worth driving around the block for. :-) We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer; spicy but delicious. We also ordered a deep dish pizza. Our waiter recommended to order the small one for the two of us. We were a bit skeptical, wondering if it would be enough. It was. Perfect crust (corn meal) and fresh ingredients. Great tomato sauce. Yummy. I also ordered a Stone Brewing Company ale called "arrogant bastar.." Sooo deliciously bitter and good. Great service, nice and cozy ambiance.

I could not taste my toppings on the pizza and after some searching found the thinnest slice of mushroom and pepperoni ever seen. The pizza was nice, almost as good as Zachary's in Berkeley but don't bother to pay for any toppings, you will never taste them. Maybe that is why the lighting is so dark, so you won't see the lack of toppings.

The vegetarian deep-dish pizza didn't blow my mind. It's just good. But: the service is excellent, beer is fresh, and it's a friendly, relaxed place. It was a good one-time experience. But I don't need to go back. 3 star food, service bumps them up to 4.

A little noisy but the staff are the sweetest and the service is terrific. Delicious food and very friendly place. A must go-to in San Francisco. Also budget friendly - you can be 2-3 people sharing a big deep dish pizza

We love deep dish Chicago style pizza and were not disappointed by Little Stars' version. Very, very good crust, sauce and toppings. A large pizza and the mixed salad made a wonderful meal for our family of four. Nice, helpful staff made suggestions for toppings which were right on. Good neighborhood place. Diners were a mix of locals as well as families visiting the City. Best pizza we've had outside of Chicago!

We googled whats the best pizza in San Francisco and Little Star came up, well I must say the pizza was great being from Chicago we didn't think that we would find pizza that we liked , we were wrong the pizza was great. The location was easy to find but on a Saturday night it was people everywhere parking was terrible since it was night and we were visitors we didn't know what to do, so we just got carry out , when I ran in to pick pizza up the place was so small and the wait time was long so take out turned out to be a great ideal, my husband says it compares to Chicago pizza so that means it was pretty good pizza, will go back next time in San Fran.

Staying near by and stumbled on it. Always crwowded so obviously others have as well. I have taken out pizza and salad twice and both times really really good. Young crown. Noisy but I took my stuff away but did have a beer at the bar. Comfy atmosphere and friendly staff. A little pricy but happy to spend it for the obvious quality of the food.

We stopped by for pizza after seeing the Painted Ladies. This place is amazing! Our friendly waiter, Bo, was so helpful pointing things out to us and making recommendations. He even said they could make personal pizza for our kids. We ended up getting 2 thin crust pizzas and they were amazing! It was early on a weekday but there were a few other tables and lots of carry out orders leaving. Our only regret is that we don’t live closer!! Definitely 5 stars!

From the moment you walk in, you know you are in for something special. The space is small and quaint, but you can tell the staff knows what time it is. Order the deep dish pie with sausage, onion and bell pepper. WARNING! If it's just two of you, order the small. You will be just fine. Great restaurant, great vibes!! Check it out for sure!

We come to Sf several times a year. We saw this in Zagat's but boy is it difficult to find even walking on foot! But yum...the Mediterranian Chicken is just fabulous. We even carried some home to Columbus. Someone told me they would never spend $24 on a pizza. They would here, gladly because it is worth every penny plus we had it for 4 meals.

On our last night in San Francisco, we were in the mood for pizza. Decided to go to Little Star, where we got the classic deep dish. Excellent! We also split a small salad (which is big enough for 2 people). Our server Patrick was very good.

I live in North Beach so Tony’s pizza is an icon here. Recently we ordered a pizza from little star and it was so damn good that it has become my favorite place for pizza dethroning Tony’s! And the best thing you can order on your phone and it’s delivered to you. You have to try🍕

Great for pick up, small portions though.

Our server was very friendly and offered recommendations on which size pizza to order. Garlic bread was delicious, salad was great, local craft beers were great, and the deep dish pizza was delicious. All for under $50 (before tip) for 2 people which is rare for my wife and I.

We walked up to Little Star after spending the day in Haight Ashbury and we were very glad we did. Staff was just getting ready for dinner service, place was pretty empty but we had a local beer and ordered a small deep dish (signature pizza for these guys). Was a very cool well thought out atmosphere, our pizza came out and we loved every bite. Not huge fans of deep dish but this was different from most, the crust is light and not too heavy, the sauce is incredible and the cheese was just right. A must have if you have a pizza craving!

I hardly ever get to go, but just thinking about the front door of this place makes me hungry. They don't take reservations, and the wait is long, and the location is not convenient for me. ...But OH the deliciousness. The simple genius of relayering! Cornmeal crust, then cheese, then the toppings, with amazing sauce on top. SO GOOD.

It's hit or miss for me, sadly. Sometimes, the cornmeal crust is too dry. Sometimes, the tangy tomato is too much. Sometimes, it's the best thing ever.

Best Pizza in SF!

Ordered the deep dish. It takes a while (about 30 minutes). But well worth it. Go early. Huge crowds. Nice atmosphere. Parking is typical for San Francisco. Can't wait to go again

Great service from the moment we arrived. Perfect ice-cold drinks, good recommendations for food. Deep pan pizzas delicious - as was the garlic bread & salad bowl. Perfect for our family of 4 with 2 teenagers. Good atmosphere too.

We ordered the 9" classic deep dish pizza (it's just enough for 2 ppl) and it was fantastic. I'm glad I don't live in San Fran cuz I'd be here all the time and get fat really fast.

We ate here while visiting the SF area and are so glad we did. We checked Triadvisor for reviews in the area and this was one of the higher rated restaurants. The food was great and the service/etc. were exceptional. Great pizza and salad with a handful of local beers. I would highly recommend this place!

The place was a bit small and we had to wait for seating, but everything was fixed once we got our thick crust pizza. The dough was amazing. Light, flaky, crunchy like nothing I ever encountered on a pizza before. Whatever you do, you must try the pesto included on your topping list. It made it and elite pizza. I even bought a large thick crust pizza on my flight back to Asia. Had to fight off all of the people at the airport because the pizza scent drove them crazy. Even TSA was nice to me because they wanted to a piece.

Recommended this place by a guy in the 49ers shop who said his friends like the place. So glad we went way off route to visit. Went for a 'small' half and half (BBQ chicken and spicy sausage) pizza to share as had already had large lunch. Good size, and absolutely delicious! Also had a garlic bread with sauces to share for starters -tasty but felt a little small and overpriced! Wine was good too, average priced. Girl serving us was super friendly and attentive, gave some great recommendations. Have to visit this place if you come across it. We went a 1/2 hour out of our way and no regrets. Really quirky venue. Cant recommend enough. Next time, I'm going large!

Another Western Addition great. Small place, but hard to get better pizza anywhere!

Came on a Sunday night as a group of 3, only had to wait around 10mins for a table. Ordered the deep dish 'Brass monkey' not on the menu, ask about it. Exceptional flavour and texture pizza, thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Nice little place, dark and noisy but fun atmosphere and good servers.

lured, tempted into this low key joint on Divisadero by the delicious aroma beckoning us from the street as we walked by....was deceptively laid back, expected nothing. recieved: FOODGASM. One small deep dish chicken pizza along with one other pizza and a salad was perfect to fully satisfy 3 very hungry tall people. funky, comfy atmosphere, nice bar...cheerful service and our compliments to the chef...decor works for all ages, urban, art filled, bar-like. might be noisy when crowded, early afternoon fairly quiet, good for talking.

I moved here from NYC area about one and a half years ago. People here rave about Little Star's pizza. Their garlic bread is very tasty. Their pizza is not as tasty. It tastes like a very good frozen box pizza. Except the price is too high for a boxed pizza. For my pizza fix I'll wait till I go back east.

My favorite pizza

Great pizza, the rudest service in town, the pizza brings you back

This is THE place to go for pizza in SF, as far as I'm concerned. My husband and I consider ourselves pizza connoisseurs and when we go out for pizza, this is the place we go. Try it - you won't be sorry.

Unpretentious little place that serves solid pan pizza (we had the italian sausage and my girlfriend still talks about it) . The place was packed and lively.

Though it took forever to get in, we did get to sip beers while waiting and snagged a seat near the door. The place was jam packed and now I know why. The pizza is great. No kidding. If it wasn't for being able to order from the bar while you wait, I would have been too impatient but it was worth it. So get there on an off night, or come early to get seated more promptly. Or be prepared to wait it out in the impossibly packed entry with drink in hand to have some great pizza.

Great pizza and great staff! They have countless options on their menu, nice atmosphere and good beer too!

The pizza was outstanding. We also ordered a house salad which could be a meal in itself. Restaurant was crowded and noisy but guess that is because the food is great. We were here on a Friday night so maybe another time would be quieter?

We’ve eaten deep dish in Chicago and this was way better!! Crust is buttery, crunchy, yet flaky! Sauce was excellent!

Came for dinner with some friends and their kids. The pizza is quite good. We had both the thin crust and the deep dish. Highly recommend you try both.

We take two pizzas for sharing (de thick and the thin ones). They were really tasty, I wouldn't know which to choose. Surprisingly, the salad was also really good. Maybe the place is too dark.

I loved the deep dish pizza… haven’t had such a tasty one since my last visit in Chicago. Pizza was delicious as well as the chicken wings. Our waitress was super kind and very friendly The ambience is nice and informal. I will definitely visit it again!! 5 stars!

We went here on a Saturday night. Long wait. No Problem, We saw a bar across the street. One veggie/One non-veg plus refreshments. The food was Great!! I would go here with no hesitation again. Parking is a little tough, but you will eventually find it (ie. one to get out and hold the table (two cell phones required) and the other to discover parking spots). Service was swift and the food was good. No Complaints!!

Who'd have thunk that Chicago-style deep-dish pizza in California could be so amazing! I hear that this isn't the only great deep-dish in the Bay Area, either! MUST try the others! Yum!

A perfect thin crust on a white pizza. Reasonable prices. Nice people working there. Busy, but willing to text when table is ready and realistic estimate of time. An enjoyable meal.

It saved my life. I tried this pizza three times in my life but I never disappointed. Taste is really good and the staff is really helpful.

After reading all the reviews I knew we wanted to head here for pizza one night. It smelled delicious when we walked through the doors. First the good - free street parking after 6pm close by, we were seated quickly even though it was crowded, garlic bread served like pizza - very good, even though our table was right by the door, they put a heavy curtain up which blocked the wind from the door and the people waiting by it, the pizza was filling and tasty. The negatives, the pizza was really really saucy with the toppings underneath all the sauce - It's all to one's taste, I would have preferred a bit less sauce. The place is small and tables are crowded together and into corners. Back to the positive - staff was friendly and service was good. One thing I did not know which I thought was great - since this deep dish style pizza takes 30 min or so to cook - you can order it from the hostess stand when you put your name in for a table. That way you are not waiting forever to eat and it helps with the turnover of tables.

I'm a born and raised New Yorker. It is in our blood to be pizza snobs. We are taught from a young age that our pizza is the best and no city dare question our reign of dominance. Best sauce, best cheese, best crust. That being said when I have a great slice outside the city I have to give it some props. The Pizza here at little star is great. Had take out at a friends house while visiting and had to go back for more. Great deep dish!

My daughter selected this place in S.F. went their w 2 of her work associates before an awful Giants game. Why dwell on the negative though? This place was quaint, clean, nice local beer varieties and great food. Started with wings. Tasty and that perfect kick without blowing your tastebuds out. I ordered their LG. 12" Margarita pie, adding sausage and anchovies. Super... Sausage was fantastic and all that fresh basil & tomatoes sauce on top of that thick pie was scrumptious as was their fresh chunky meaty mozzarella peaking under the sauce. Personnel their & service great too. Especially from Ms. Catherine! R. H. Fresno, CA

I'm not normally a fan of deep dish, but there's was wonderful! Crispy crust without being hard to chew or soggy in places. Great flavor! Noisy in dining area, but very nice. I would definitely eat there again.

One of the best pizzas in the world, if you like deep dish and lots of sauce. They use corn meal for the dough, so the crust is similar to corn bread. Its yummy.

I'm not a great pizza fan. I'm mean it's OK but I'd rather have a "real meal" than a slice or two of pizza. But Little Star's pizza is a "real meal." The deep-dish cornmeal pizza crust is incredible and the fresh ground tomatoes add a sweet delicious flavor; no canned tomato sauce here. Their salads are amazing too. Big, fresh and a good price.

If you are a pizza lover...I mean, as in EVERYWHERE you go you look for the best pizza, then this is the place for you. After asking San Francisco locals, and reading countless internet reviews, my hubby and I (huge fans of pizza) decided to try Little Star. We went in as skeptics (we have, after all, been to Chicago and New York) and left as believers. We ordered the deep dish vegetarian and the deep dish artichoke and pepperoni. It was perfect! The atmosphere: dark, candle lit, young crowd, bar, crowed, loud (music and conversation), busy. The service: friendly, fast, accurate. The pizza: try and see for yourself!

Great food, good service, good gluten free options (gluten free pizza), very busy, average prices, huge portions!

Met my uncle for dinner, and didn’t expect much. This place blew me away. People were friendly, food was amazing, service was excellent. If I didn’t live 3,000 miles away, I would be a regular. Well done!

Hell yeah. Deep dish veggie, add meat, so ridiculous.

I'm not going to waste your time with superfluous words here. Go to this restaurant. Order a white pie and you will see english can not describe this bliss

The server was right; a small deep dish and small side salad was plenty of food for two. We had a wonderful rich pizza; half veggie, half sausage and delightful salad with walnuts and blue cheese.

We got take out from here one night and were blown away. The deep dish pizza was out of this world. Buttery crust with cheese on the bottom, meats and veggies in the middle and tomatoes on top. Excellent. So filling that 1 pizza stuffed 3 hungry adults. We also got an order of wings that were very good.

Garlic bread is a must! And the deep dish is the best!

This pizza is flavorful and amazing! They also offer vegan cheese which is a huge plus for me because I am lactose intolerant. So I haven't had real deep dish pizza in over 10 years because most places in other cities do not have that option. They also have great drinks! A must try! They have other locations in SF and Alameda.

Not the best I have ever had but definitely a place where you can get a solid thin crust pizza. They have deep dish as well, which we didn't try. The thin crust pizza was crisp with a nice garlic salty crust. The pizza came out hot but what we really liked the best was the garlic bread. Nice selection of glasses of wine and beers are available. The prices can be expensive or cheap depending on what you order. If you can split a pizza, the large is a much better value than the small pizza. Pretty unassuming place but the service was very friendly. The restaurant is painted in black and it can be dark inside but don't let that put you off. We saw a couple of families in the place while we were there and it was a down to earth crowd.

Wonderful corn meal crust and very fresh toppings! Two locations in SF. Nice to share a pie as they Are hearty! One of best pizzas in SF area!

We had an excellent thin crust pizza, half with chicken and half with spinach, both were really tasty. We had a mixed salad which also was great! We would surely come again!

Delicious deep dish pizza and salad and friendly service. The happy hour wine was tasty too. We then went for a nice short walk to Alamo Park.

Little Star Pizza is one of the best Chicago-style deep dish pizzas in the Bay Area. With a wooden bar and a casual atmosphere, you won't mistake Little Star Pizza on Divisadero for anything other than the pizza joint it is. No white table cloths here, just great deep dish pizza worth driving across The City for. Served with melted butter and olive oil, the sourdough garlic bread ($5.75) is a good choice to take the edge off your hunger. While tasty and piquant, the spicy chicken wings ($11) are not your traditional Buffalo wings. The delicious Caprese salad ($11), with fresh, soft mozzarella slices and tomatoes that tasted as if they were just picked, was topped with shredded basil and presented in a mixture of olive oil and balsamic vinegar--the embodiment of summer. With spinach, ricotta, mushrooms, onions, and garlic, the Little Star ($19/$24.50) puts other deep dish pizzas to shame. The cornmeal crust was perfectly cooked--just toasted enough, not burned. The deep dish Mediterranean chicken pizza ($19.75/$25.50) was also fantastic. The cheese was melted, but not greasy, and the combination of artichokes, feta, and green olives was a perfect foil for the tanginess of the tomato sauce. Service is friendly, if a little rushed. While there is a good selection of beers on tap and by the bottle, oenophiles may be disappointed, as the wine choices were rather limited. For deep dish pizza, Little Star is really a star.

Twinkle, twinkle Little Star, you are as good as they say you are! Ate there on Monday night (first time they not slammed in several days) and found great pizza. Salads excellent with homemade balsamic v! Chianti complements great food. You won't be disappointed if you're on the Disavero in San Francisco. Ciao!

I went here and had the garlic bread, caprese salad and deep dish pizza with others. The bread and salad were amazing and the pizza was very good, just a bit much for me. I would recommend and go to this place again if in the area.

This is quite unusual. Not your typical pizza joint. Rather, a "hip" restaurant and bar that serves a special pizza. The thick cornmeal crust is unique, as is the special tomato sauce. I had the Classic, and it includes sausage and mushroom. It is really worth a trip to try this dish. You've never had anything like it. The Garlic bread is also quite good. Conventional pizza dough with melted cheese and garlic. Very good. Last, the Cheesecake dessert was a treat. It comes with two pieces for about $6. It is more the NY style which I prefer. Really excellent and perfect for two people to share.

Little star is a hidden gem. I am from Denver, and we were looking for really good pizza on our last trip to San Fran - which we found at Little Star. Neighborhood vibe, quaint inside. Highly recommend!

We just finished walking around Alamo park and used TripAdvisor to find a lunch spot, we totally lucked out. We ordered the thin crust Greek and were blown away, way better than expected an a surprising highlight of our trip. Later evening we were talking with a friend living in SF and he had nothing but great things to say about that place.

best pizza ever!

After a fun couple of hours shopping in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, our family walked over to Little Star Pizza (about 3/4 of a mile) for a great dinner. The adults enjoyed a deep dish "meateor" while the kids (pre-teens) had a thin crust pepperoni. We all thought the food was really good (we also enjoyed a salad before the pies). Highly recommend!

I just love the Restaurant. Its located next to the alamo square, nice view and nice feeling especially on the weekend. It looks little bit crappy from the oudside, but from the inside its very charming. Its a little bit dark, Alternative, waiters with piercing and tattoos. LOVE iT! Best thing was the fresh Garlic Bread but the Pizza was also yummie... Delicious!

This little place was a good choice after a day of walking around San Francisco. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We had salad, wings and thin crust pizza. Very good. We happen to walk in during Happy Hour and we paid a little less of the wings and salad. It's a little pricey, but worth it.

I'm from the New York area originally, where lots of Italian-Americans have created truly legendary pizza for more than a century. When I moved to the West Coast more than 30 years ago, I assumed I'd find great pizza there, too. But I was constantly disappointed. Finally, a friend told me about LIttle Star Pizza, and I went there on a date. Well, it turned out to be a new kind of legendary pizza, with amazing new ingredients that I had never had on a pizza, including artichoke hearts. The salads are fresh and delicious and feature the best ingredients available from local farmers. They even sell a kind of organic Coca Cola. If you're looking for thin crust of deep dish pizza, they have both! It's not a low cost meal, but worth the price which is slightly more than one would normally pay for pizza. But worth it!

And they have a fun crowd, but don't go super hungry cuz it takes a while

Loved it! We had the deep dish and that first bite was one of those food moments you remember. Neighborhood vibe, nice wine selection, fabulous food. If you've never been, it's worth the effort. Enjoy!

We went to the Mission location on the recommendation of the desk clerk at our hotel. We wanted pizza and he said Little Star exceeded his expectations. The outside was nothing special, but once we entered it was very nicely decorated. We shared the small mixed salad (comes in a small and large size), which was really large enough to share if you are getting something else. We then tried the special thin crust pizza for that night, which was meatballs, cheddar cheese, spinach, red pepper. It was very good. I can’t say how good the deep dish is because I don’t like deep dish pizza, but the thin crust is very good. Overall, if I was in the Mission District, I would go here again.

LOVE the Little Star deep dish!

My son and I found about this great pizza place from one of the locals. Not a lot of seating but just right for the area. Parking is a little tough but once you get in you won't be disappointed. We tried the daily special which was a deep dish pizza with BBQ chicken, bacon and pineapple. It was fantastic. It's made to order so don't be in a hurry. TV's on the wall to check out your favorite sporting events. I will definitely go back again
one of the best pizza in san francisco
I am an Italian living in San Francisco and, while San Francisco has among the best restaurants in the whole world, I believe that the quality of pizza is still very poor. Little Star is a great exception. The place is a little too dark and not that interesting, but the pizza is really good, the served very good and the prices very reasonable. I highly recommend it to pizza lovers. It's one of the best for pizza.
